Best Dim-Sum in seattle right now (I say right now because the way these chefs bounce around who knows how long it will stay this way) - so get it while it's HOT!

very fresh ingredients and decent prices but very, very bland food.

Okay, the first time I went here I was impressed by the dim sum, but not by the service. The "we hate whitey" vibe was hardcore. Literally. We asked for something off the cart and instead of giving it to us the waitress offered it to the table full of asians instead. Okay, weird. Stood in line to pay my bill...waited a full 5 minutes. Asian man walks up to pay his bill - like magic here is cashier to wait on him first. Weird. But, because the dim sum was so dang good I decided to try it out again. Boy, am I glad I did. The dim sum here is like little pieces of art. I have been eating dim sum for something like 20 years from NYC, San Fran, etc. This place has a great variety, food is always very hot, and yes, cart ladies can be pushy, but all you have to do is say no. No big deal. I think they are like that because some people don't know what things are so they can't make intelligent choices. These ladies help them out with those choices, yeah? Anyway, luckily I know my favorites and I know how to say no to the gelatinous noodle thingy. Ewww. Wait staff was nice, cheerful, and price was right. $52 for 4 people. This place is open late too. Yum Yum Dim Sum. Thank you for being nice this time Tea Garden!

I live just up the street from the restaurant and would have never of tried it, but some friends suggested checking it out. Pretty good dim sum, but please clean up your parking lot you are totally bringing the neigborhood down. It doesn't take that much time to pick up the trash outside of your place and you would probably get more customers.

I signed up for this site, and went through the hassle of all the buttons and fields and confirmations just to write a review of this establishment. I am giving 5 stars for my first visit, but I am sure I will be back plenty of times, and will give a running account. The Tea Garden is amazing. It is a great Chinese Restaurant, but what makes it amazing is the hours. Open till 3am on the weekends! You never have to go to Dick's again. There are other Chinese places open late in Chinatown, but none as nice (or new and clean) as this. So at 2:30am on Friday you can stroll in an get a whole duck (well I guess just the body, legs, and wings) and a whole damn live crab cooked up for you fresh. If you think roast chinese duck is delicious, imagine how delicious after a night of drinking renders your taste-sensing hyperbolic. Since it is 2 blocks from my house, I tried it last night at 11:30pm. We were greated by a nice man in a jaunty red bow-tie. There was a small group of ~80 year-olds just finishing up what looked to be a feast. We had: Some noodles with shrimp... they were perfect. not greasy, shrimp was fresh, all the flavors stood out, perfect pan-fried flavor. Garlic Broccoli, cooked perfectly, delicious sauce. Also you can order only steamed things from the dim-sum menu late-night (but they didn't say that up front) so we got some dumplings and pork bun (hom bau). They were great, and they have the sweet red vinegar that makes dim sum all that much more delicious. The only things that could be better: they have vegetarian items, but you have to search the menu to find them, not consolidated in one section. Also I bet they can make many more vegetarian things than were listed. (I am not a vegetarian, but I know that is a consideration for many). Also they didn't have Chinese Donut and warm soy milk at night only during breakfast and lunch. Which is a shame, because that may be just about the most perfect drunk snack of any culture (yes better than kabobs, frites, and fried cheese) Finally I need to come clean. I am writing this for selfish reasons. I need this place to stay open. I am writing this in hopes that you will all go there, and all go late. Their hours are ridiculous, and I am worried they will soon cut them back. And then like all good things in life, it will go away, (just like my favorite short-lived 24hr burrito place in Tacoma, Federico's... RIP). So round up your crew, bring them on down, live like kings, order the live crab and lobster, eat heartily, and come back often! Round 2: Went with 10 friends at 12:30am after International District Karaoke Box. They were about to call it an early night (so call before you drive down late), but stayed open for our group. We received some helpful advice from a new man in a jaunty red bow-tie (don't order the eggplant hotpot, it is for old people he says), we had, yet again, some of the most delicious food in Chinatown. Prawns with some sort of crack/nut/shallot? breading perhaps. Also if you order anything "Salty Pepper" style you cannot go wrong - we had the squid salty pepper. Best squid of my life... and it was not the bourbon talking. Not chewy, and the breading was perfectly crisp. Singapore noodles - perfect again. Some simple fried rice, delicious. Round 3-9: So I tried a normal dinner at a normal time, for some reason it didn't have that same zing for me (I think it helps to have a big group and order many dishes), but it was still good. Tried Dim Sum one morning, it is only good if you like shrimp and pork (shrimp AND pork... together), as 75% of the dishes contain them, and good luck asking for otherwise. Luckily I love the succulent combination, unfortunately my girlfriend doesn't. Had a late night feast with 11 people at 2am after a full night on Capitol Hill. The cooks looked a little pissed (they were about to head home when we burst in), but it appears that they didn't adulterate our food... either way, delicious!! Tried the Lemon Chicken, (like eating a sweet fresh lemon with chicken texture!), and honey walnut prawns (good if you like mayonaise), and the standbys (singapore noodles, fried rice, wonton soup, etc.) Plus good news... they now have their liquor permit. It is getting pretty busy during the day, but Yelpers, you are not doing your job, as I have the huge place to myself at night.

Ack! I'm not sure if it's I don't like Chinese food anymore, but I'm pretty sure I do. I'll admit, my palette is not sophisticated in this genre of food, but I know junk when I taste it. And I tasted it... Very bland. Heavily fried. Things seem slimy and warm, rather than hot and crispy. The seating and inside experience seemed reasonable, but we got to go, so I can't speak much to that. I also apparently accidentally ordered two things ...the lady tricked me during our language barrier difficulties I think . Not a big deal, but the food happened to suck so instead of raining, it poured in my case

The delivery was quick, which was nice. The food was okay, nothing special. It's VERY salty. We had chicken fried rice and sesame seed chicken. The chicken fried rice was much better than expected, given how it looked. The sesame seed chicken was unimpressive, to say the least. Will I order from here again? Probably not right away.

Dim Sum on weekday afternon: shrimp rolls, shrimp balls, shrimp wraps, shrimp this and shrimp that. Do you like shrimp? You better if you plan on dining at Tea Garden!

Dim Sum Fail. I should have read one of the three framed copies of the Seattle Times review titled "At least the Food Looked Good." with a 1 and a half star rating. I'm not at all sure why you'd frame a bad review and post it three times. The people who work here are nice and the carts come constantly with all kinds of dishes but most of it just doesn't taste good. Way too much MSG and a lot of things don't have any other discernible seasoning or sauce.

I ordered delivery from Tea Garden last night while watching the Sounders game. I ordered the Mongolian Beef, Tempura Prawns, BBQ Pork and Pork Fried Rice. I was very happy when my order arrived well before the estimated delivery time and was impressed with the portion sizes. Full boxes of Mongolian Beef and Fried Rice and WAY more BBQ Pork than I expected. The prawns were good...a bit greasy and the batter seemed a bit thicker than I expected but they were cooked perfectly. The Mongolian Beef was amazing. Ordered three stars and it had good spice...if you're not into hot, definitely order below what you're used to ordering...flavor was awesome, though and, like I said before, the portions were huge! BBQ is pretty much exactly what you'd expect but good...not dry...pretty standard...my only complaint is they mixed the hot mustard and red sauce (plum sauce or sweet and sour...not sure because I didn't try it since I don't like mustard) The only real complaint I may have with the food is the Pork Fried Rice...seemed pretty dry and pretty tame. King's Teriyaki's Pork Fried Rice is MUCH better...to each their own, though. Overall, I'm very satisfied and will definitely order again...the only reason they didn't get five stars is because I love fried rice and it didn't meet my standards.

We went back for dim sun with a larger group last Sunday, made a reservation just in case, but the reservation wasn't really necessary even at noon. The place was buzzing but not crowded, the food was really tasty and had a freshness that was very noticeable. The chinese broccoli was perfect: pencil thin emerald green tender stems, with just a slight touch of oil. We were stuffed to the gills. Some of the items like custard puffs and little egg tarts ran out by the end of our meal, so if you have your heart set on something, you have to grab it when you see it. Other items we enjoyed: chive stuffed pan-fried dumpling spinach dumpling steamed tofu rolls eggplant with shrimp paste deep fried shrimp paste on silken tofu (this tofu is significantly more flavorful than tofu I've had elsewhere) deep fried rice flour & pork dumplings (so crunchy) They could really improve by having more steam carts/heat lamp cart as some of the items were a little on the cold side. Also got a delivery this week, also a little on the cold side.

The bathrooms are alright because the sink is real different and I like that. It's not a normal plain sink. The floors however are always wet and when I use the bathroom I want to walk in knowing I wont slip and fall into PISS. The bathrooms also "smell so STINK. It's like sour ass..." quoted from Niga Higa. The food... lets just say I've had better Chinese food. The sweet and sour pork didn't even taste sweet OR sour... it tasted like REGULAR PORK. I asked for a fork three times to three different servers and I didn't get one. Until I went up to the counter and bitched... then I got my fork. I guess when you want something you get it yourself, right?

We've been here at least twice and are going back in about a week. The tastes of the group I go with are varied, but everyone is happy about what we can get. They've got all of the usual things and all are good, but none of them stand out as being amazing in my mind right now other than the sponge cake, which is the best I've had.

This is a review of delivery only. I have never been to the restaurant. This is also not a review of dim sum. I order regular mains and sides from here. They are GOOD. I also do not review any Asian restaurant for "authenticity". I'm not qualified, and I don't care. I only care about the quality and tastiness of the food I eat. And Tea Garden is some of the best quality food you can have delivered to Rainier Valley. Better than any other Chinese food place on eat24hours.com . Ingredients and preparation are fresh, orders are always right, and delivery drivers are always supernice. Here are the dishes I have tried - they have all been great: hot&sour soup, fried rice, chicken and snow peas, general Tso chicken, chow mein.

This is the best Chinese food I have had since I moved to Seattle 6 years ago! I have dined in and had wonderful service. Very nice and accomadating. Large vegetarian menu with delicious food! I have also had delievery and it arrived very quick and food was still hot! I can't say enough good things about this place!

Tea Garden would be my alternative restaurant for Dim Sum if another place is packed. I like the fact that it's never busy, clean and also their waiter/tress are always going around asking if you want more water or more tea. A lot of asian restaurants you actually have to walk up to someone and was for more tea or water. If you are a fan chicken feet .. like me, they have AWESOME chicken feet!!! *slurp* ... also they have other goodies. Would I dine here again, yes I would. Oh btw, they have dim sum for all you late night owls!!!!! yep!!! They serve dim sum until 2am!!! So go and get your Chicken feet on!!!!

Went here a few times, they haven't changed much from their food wise. I would have given this place another star but they are not fair to all customers. We had a fairly large group sitting at two larger tables. We've ordered in total about 11 dishes. Our table get small platter of jelly--for desert whereas the smaller table next to us gets 4 different variety of steamed buns, steamed cake and this other light greenish delicacy. We requested that we wanted some dessert like that but was denied.

Another great dim sum experience! The fifth star was earned when the server brought over a mango/coconut gelatin over to the table. We were ALL stuffed but we absolutely couldn't resist a taste.

I read the online reviews and thought I would give it a try. For me it was nothing to write home about. Food was not worth what we paid $48 including tip for two small women. I imagined a hip Seattle atmosphere teaming with lots of dim sum carts and a cool vibe. My only wish is that there would have been a vegetable cart. The bathroom decor was my favorite part, very clean and nice urban/Asian feel. Not my fav spot.... I would recommend Ocean Seafood in Los Angeles if you have the chance to, go there instead.

The dim sum was good for the price! We had a party of 6 and the food was good! After ordering a ton of food and boxing some more of it, our bill came to be about $8 per person. Another good sign was that most of the customers around us were speaking Cantonese which was a good sign considering that Cantonese people love good dim sum. On a non related note about dim sum restaurant in general...usually if you speak Cantonese or have a Cantonese friend the service is much better, so make sure you bring one to any dim sum restaurant! My top 5 favs there: 1) Fong Jiaow/ Feng Zhua/ Phoenix Claws/ Chicken Feet - tender and juicy with the perfect amount of spice. Not for the picky or scared! Btw, Phoenix Claws are Chicken feet when you translate it from Chinese to English. So don't be stupid! 2) Ha Churng Fen/ Xia Chiang Fen/ Shrimp Rice Rolls - the soy sauce was sweet and the roll was delicious! my fav dim sum dish 3) Wu Guok/ Wu Guo/ Fried Taro and Pork - the dish was crispy and fresh and the taro was nice and soft. 4) Gon Chow Un Huo/ Niu Rou He Fen/ Stir Fried Beef and Rice Noodles - very greasy but beef was tender and the noodles were well cooked. Could have used more onion and green onion, but still good. 5) Ha Gow/ Xia Jiao/ Shrimp Dumpling - soft outside, tasty shrimp inside. mmm Overall, it was good, but not the best dim sum restaurant that I have been to. There wasn't a wait for a Saturday afternoon, but the restaurant was still crowded. It's cheap and tasty for the price. So it's a decent back up if you don't want to wait 1 hr at Jade Garden to get seated.

I would have given Tea Garden three stars, if I hadn't gotten a big chunk of hard, pointy plastic molding in my delivery food that I almost chipped a tooth on and could have choked on. At least they were quick to drive my cash back to me after I called and told them about it. Brought the plastic piece out to him, but he still requested that we bring our leftover food out to him as well. Whatever. Not like we were going to eat that #$%# after that incident. Oh, and the Garlic Sauce Chicken sucked.

  • Eastlaker B.

My two cents worth.... * Go early or make reservation, especially for groups * Be willing to try something new that you can't find at other dim sum places. * It's about as good as Jade Garden! It's our first time there, but I predict more trips are coming... Just go! PS, For four adults and three kids, our total was about $60.00.

Went here for Easter dim sum with the family and although service was a bit slow, I gave them the benefit of the doubt because of how busy they were, considering many had the same idea we did which was to enjoy delicious dim sum food on this bustling holiday Sunday. Waited 10 minutes for a table, but the staff was very apologetic and cleared a table as soon as they could. When we finally got around to seeing those carts being pushed with some delectable goodies, that's when the fun really began. Humbow, shumai, chinese broc, and shimp eggrolls were all delcious. Had some other treats that I honestly don't know the name of, but when it tastes that good, does it really matter? I was completely stuffed and with everything that we ordered, which was quite a lot, the total came out to about $11pp. Sweet deal and my nap afterwards just sealed it as I tend to appreciate good eats with a little slumber right afterwards.

DIMSUM CRAVINGS IN THE 206 One of them days. Especially Sunday mornings, dimsum is a must! It was ritual back in 2003 that my girlfriends and I would have dimsum Sunday morning. And everytime I was in Seattle for vacation we'd hit up dimsum in Chinatown. But I've been in desperate need to find a good dimsum spot in Seattle. After having the best dimsum I could ever eat in San Francisco, nothing has yet came close to it. But I was introduced to a new spot this weekend, Tea Garden, just about a 1/2 mile or less away from Chinatown but still in the ID. I've passed this place time and time again but always judged the district for it's not so clean reputation. When I entered the restaurant I was pretty content with the space. The dimsum here is average but way better then any place I've had dimsun in Chinatown. Our order at Tea Garden was (think I've said the items below correctly): - Nol Mai Gai (lotus leaf sticky rice) - Seejup Pai Gwat (Pork spareribs) - Sui Mai (steamed meat dumpling) - Sa Lut Ming ha Gok (deep fried shrimp dumpling) - Gao choy got (shrimp and cilantro dumpling) The prices were reasonable to recieve a bill less then $30 bucks for the filling items ordered. I plan to go back for yet another dimsum fix. Good bye chinatown dimsum.

I've been here a few times for lunch and really enjoyed it. They have a great shoomai (sp) and beef westlake soup. I haven't had much of the dim sum but overall I enjoy what I've had.

3 of us had dim sum here a couple of months ago and had so much fun! The service is wonderful, the food great , we ate for 2 hours.....and it only cost $10 each! We are headed back again this morning and can't wait. One of my friends is Chinese so we even got some extra special teas and goodies not on the regular carts. Lots of parking which is such a bonus in this area. The restaurant is good sized so even when it is busy you should be able to find a spot to land. Hoping to take the husband in the near future even though he is afraid of foods that are not what he considers "normal". I just know he will enjoy Tea Garden's dim sum!

  • Melly B.

Ordered delivery from Tea Garden via Eat 24 hours. Food was delivered quickly and portions were a good size for the price but the food was pretty mediocre. My husband got hot and sour soup with his and said it was the best part of the meal. The entrees were quite bland, but i put some Sriracha sauce on mine it it was better. I would recommend their delivery if you just aren't in the mood to cook and you're not too picky.

We REALLY disliked our food we ordered from this place. The food was TERRIBLE!!! Obviously microwaved over and over. HORRIBLE beef - bad cuts, cheap meat. Not one good dish out of four! We called to let them know about our concern, they lied and said the manager wasn't in and was on vacation. It was very dirty in the viewable kitchen area and they have no health permits visable. They offered to refund us over the phone, but when we got to Tea Garden the man there reversed his offer to refund us and said he would only give us half of our money back? We had eaten NONE of the food other than to taste how poorly made it was. Please, do yourself a favor and eat a BETTER Chinese place in Chinatown neaby.

My parents are both originally from HK and this is the only place my mom likes to have dim sum. We get there early (they open at 9a every day) to beat the rush of the 11a crowd. Everything's always steamed to perfection. Even though this place has changed ownership a few times, the most recent owners have the best dim sum chefs. Their shrimp and pork dumplings are awesome. Their pastry cook is really good too. My favorite are the steamed chive dumplings, the shrimp is almost crunchy, never overcooked to 'rubberband' texture. Excellent chicken feet for those who are fans. My hubby loves the bbq pork buns, they're always fresh! Parking is plentiful and not that they advertise it, but the parking lot directly behind the building is theirs as well so we can always find a spot. Dinner here wasn't as good as the dim sum, if I'm rating on dim sum alone, 5 stars. Overall, the restaurant gets 4 stars but I had to give a higher rating since these other ratings aren't doing the restaurant justice in my opinion.

Okay, this place has been through several changes in management. All I care about is good, authentic style Cantonese food. Last night, I decided to try them out for take out, and test out the new owners with basic HK style food. As I walked in, I noticed the workers were Vietnamese, and this made me nervous, as Vietnamese owned Chinese restaurants can have a hint of Vietnamese flavor. This is fine, but I prefer authentic, Hong Kong style flavors when I want Cantonese food. I ordered: 1. HK style chicken chow mein w/the sauce separated from the crispy noodles (important to ask while transporting) 2. Singapore style fried rice noodles. 3. Beef chow fun. 4. Salted fish fried rice w/chicken. Rarely am I impressed. I was impressed with the quality, and portions. They were not stingy on the shrimp, chicken, salted fish, or any of the portions; although I could have had more beef. Total: $33.00. Perfect addition to the sesame kale from Whole Foods. This gives me more confidence to try their dim sum.

Wonderful food. Puts others to shame. When you cross your sticks to open a shrimp dumpling, there are whole shrimp inside, not a purée of shrimp held together with egg, like most dim sum in the ID. I am so glad to live within a 2 block radius.

This place has a new owner now... I came here 2 weekends in a row for Saturday morning Dimsum. It seems they donot have hardly any selection and servce re-steamed Shui Mai. It's really sad what this restaurant has became. In the beginning a year back, it was pretty decent... but this restaurant's best days are over.

  • Jon L.

When this place first open, the first owner. It open late (1 or 2am, I believe) the dinner was fantastic. Well derserving of 4 stars. Since management have changed a couple of times since then. The food is lackluster at best. The dimsum basic, shrimp dumpling and pork dumplings can't even be made to an acceptable level. This is overall an overall " - okay" place for the morning with it's key competitive edge being is location which make parking a bit easier than ID, not by much however.

Pop Quiz: Phoenix Claws are: a.) deep fried spider crab b.) chicken feet c.) spicy deep fried octopus d.) really bad fake nails My answer: a.) Tea Garden's answer: b.) Houston's answer: We have a problem. We walked in here last night, in search of some Dim Sum. We were seated promptly enough and brought tea and menus. We perused the hundreds of options only to find that there wasn't a dumpling to be found! Huh.. Well, lucky for us, we had an iPhone with the new 'Yelp IPhone' Application'. After a little research, we found a.) you ask for the dim sum menu, and b.) what to order. We had the shrimp and scallop dumplings (A+++), the lobster dumplings (a Solid A-), Fried Calamari (B+), Sticky Rice in Lotus Root (A- BOMB!), turnip cake (No Mas), and yes, Chicken Feet (Blech!)... As she set the plates down, we looked at the dumplings, the calamari.. the feet.. and then at each other and burst into laughter! Him: Uh, those are chicken feet. We DID NOT order chicken feet. Me: Maybe we did.. Wow.. those are.. huh. (beckons to waitress) Him: Excuse me.. We didn't order chicken feet. Her: Um.. Okay. One moment please. (Goes and gets order) Her: Yes, you did. Right here.. Phoenix claws. Me: Ahh.. Alrighty then.. Thank you! Me: Okay, well.. we gotta eat them. Him: I'm not touchin' that @**$! Me: Yeah.. well, I am! Him: Really?? Me: (Crunch, crunch).. Hmm.. it actually tastes like a wing.. Him: (laughing) Ugh.. I don't want to hear about it.. I can't believe you're eating those.. Me: And one is plenty. Total bill for all this crazy business- $25! We were shocked and appalled (him- mostly by my consumption of the Claw) and delighted that we got plenty of food AND entertainment for such a great price! Definitely good for Dim Sum action. Some interesting entrees on their menu as well.. next time I might try them out. No claws though. The phrase 'Once in a Lifetime' rightfully applies here.

Tea Garden is my go-to Chinese restaurant. I give the food 4 stars, but added an extra star for the friendly staff, great prices and the parking lot (parking in the ID can be tough- esp in large groups). When they changed management over a year ago, the menu changed and so did the food. It was hit or miss for a while, but has recently been more consistent. I miss their deep fried custard tofu dish, and their salt and pepper calamari appetizer is not the same as before, but am glad that they kept the salted fish and chicken fried rice. They also serve a complimentary dessert, but it varies- I'm not really sure what to call them since I've never had either before. One is a sago-red bean mochi-thing and the other, a mango/coconut gelatin, both are so good that I am tempted to ask for the recipes. The portion sizes are very generous and we always end up with leftovers. I love leaving with a container of my favorite fried rice to enjoy later!

Decent place for dim sum about 1 mile away from Seattle International Center/Chinatown. Actually a pretty big restaurant with lots of tables and a large banquet area. A fewof the dim sum items (like the steamed pork bun) were extremely tasty and the rest (shrimp dumplings, beef rice noodles, etc) were average. Bottom line: I'd go back here again. Best aspects were free parking in the reasonable sized parking lot and cleanliness of the place.

Fresh,Hot and good Dim Sum.. Take my kids every weekend because the prices are great.. $40 dollars feeds a family of 4, pretty impressive.. The owner told me to come at nighttime and try the FROG.. Impressive..

This was my second attempt at finding the coveted Salted Pepper Squid/wings, the one that could be comparable to what I'd been accustomed to in San Diego - perfectly seasoned, cut into huge pieces, crispy on the outside and delicate, NOT CHEWY on the inside. No wings again. Damn. They got the texture right, but there was no seasoning on it at all. It was just battered squid. Maybe they changed the recipe, but it didn't reflect on the menu. They served it with Sweet & Sour dipping sauce. Okay. It was good for what it was, I guess. The salt and pepper pork chops were what the squid wasn't - deliciously salty, spicy, and juicy. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Man, I missed eating meat.

I decided to check out yet another dim sum place a few weekends ago. I grabbed my gay boyfriend #1 (GBF#1) and off we went. I had read the reviews of Tea Garden and passed it one day so I knew where it was and decided this was it. We get there and they have their own parking lot! Yes free parking people! Though there were some sketchy looking people roaming the lot as we pulled into park but hey it was free and right there. We are seated right away. We sit down and are approached right away too. Let me first tell you their dim sum push cart ladies are PUSHY they will try to force you to take things you don't want, which is how we ended up with some shrimp and corn thing. Once I put my foot down and said NO to what I didn't want we got want we wanted. Shu Mai, steamed shrimp dumpling, steamed shrimp and chive dumpling, flakey baked pork buns and a steamed pork and peanut dumpling. The dumplings were HUGE I tell you, probably the biggest dim sum I've ever seen and they all stuck together. From what I've been told that's a sign of old dim sum and this was 11:30 am on a Sunday morning, but it didn't taste old but than again it's not like I'd really know what old dim sum tasted like anyways. The dim sum was ok; the corn with the shrimp was how should I put it, interesting, not something I'd ever want again. The rest was just ok. GBF#1 said I was allowed to take him back here again so as you can tell it wasn't that bad not Top Gun or Jade Garden good but good enough considering it was cheap and they had a parking lot.

The mandate of (dim sum) heaven has passed from Sea Garden to Tea Garden. I've been there at least five times now and each time the food is better and better. The dim sum is flavorful and, generally, fresh. Their recipe for success? Quality ingredients, expertly seasoned and efficiently served. For instance, the pan fried turnip cake has discernible chunks of turnip in it and was bursting with sharply distinct but harmoniously balanced flavors of dried shrimp, Chinese sausage and turnips. And the coconut jello was delicately flavored with a texture that would make a Toys in Babeland shopper squirm with delight. My first time there the dim sum was so-so and the place was packed. Oddly, the crowds have lessened as the food has gotten better. No complaints from me about this though. Also, while the staff can be a bit zealous in offering their tasty morsels, they are also friendly and attentive. Alll in all, this place is super solid for good dim sum

The decor of the TEA GARDEN is modern, nothing too major- theres a stage area all the way towards the back of the restaurant. I only came to this restaurant because my friends & I were in China Town driving around and we got hungry for DIM SUM, we drove aimlessly until we saw a banner outside a small building that said "DIM SUM" it did not have a time frame or anything that would state that dim sum is offer only during lunch time. We parked in the lot next to the building and went inside, sat down and were ranting and raving amongst ourselves about how hungry we were and wanting a certain dim sum dish, well come to find out we asked the waitress wheres the dim sum menu; HARD TO UNDERSTAND HER, we asked 3 times I hope we weren't annoying her by then but she stated it was only for lunch, I was like WTH? the banner said otherwise. I was real disappointed but still hungry- we stayed and end up order the special of that day, a dinner platter that consist of meat and rice and some noodles I can't really remember what it was now but I don't think I would come to this place again & the portions were a bit small.

Decent dim sum, a little dark inside. Shumai strike me as comically big.

Food isn't bad. The rice wasn't very good which is odd. Usually if a Chinese Restruant makes anything well it is the rice. In this case the food was better than the rice.

I haven't actually had dim sum here but their dinner menu is good. Little parking lot but the restaurant is actually bigger than it looks from the outside. Their rice clay pots are good. A little pricey but they're big so get one and share it with a pal. Never super packed when we go there in the evenings but food has always been good.

I had leftovers for lunch again today. For three days now. And dinner tonight will probably be from the leftovers also. Which goes to say that while the food was not inspired enough to have been completely guzzled at the original sitting, it wasn't bad enough to have been rejected as leftovers. Oh, and no dinner-time dim sum in sight - you should have seen the crestfallen look on my poor dining companion's face. Especially given the anticipation with which he had anticipated it. The service was adequate; they had a wedding party to deal with in back. The snow and rain that day was insufferable. But I digress.

Gonna pop my proverbial Yelp cherry. So, be kind, be gentle and go easy on my first review. ;) Dim Sum at 9pm on a Monday night? How cow! I was this close x..x to going to Sea Garden for my usual Wet Egg Noddle with Rice. But, we were jonesing for some late night Dim Sum. So, I rolled into Tea Garden with a writer friend of mine from NYC. We found Tea Garden to be clean, and surprisingly crowded for a Monday night. The staff was friendly and courteous. At first I was a little hesitant to order Dim Sum ("A Touch of Heart") this late at night. One has to wonder how long Dim Sum has been sitting in these carts. My therapist said I should throw caution to the wind more often, so I decided what the hell and started ordering. (drum roll) 1. Siu maai (Pork Dumplings) **** - (out of 5) - it was tender and tasty. 2. Har gau - (Shrimp Dumplings) ***** - moist, tender and very good. 3. Char siu baau (Steamed bum with roasted pork) ** - I found it dry and tough to eat. 4. Lou mai gai (rice in lotus leaf with egg yolk, pork and chicken etc..) NR - I accidentally drowned it in Soy Sauce and Sriracha Hot Sauce. So, hard to say. I will give it a NR. 5. Cheong Fun (Wide rice noodles with Shrimp topped with soy sauce. ) ***** One word... Yummyfantastic. 6. Dan tat (Egg Tart) *** 1/2 - This is one of my favorite deserts after having dim sum. It was moist and yummy. I'm still thinking about it as I write this review. We left Tea Garden on a happy note. Well worth the money. ps. I really don't see a therapist.

After just one visit, I'm ready to make Tea Garden my slutty lil' dim sum mistress. Sorry, Mrs. China Gate! Went for lunch on Wednesday. Dining room was bright, spacious (large spaces abound for them big parties the Chinese throw!) and, most importantly, clean. Despite only having two cart types (steamed + non-steamed), there was a wide variety to choose from (some items, even, that I've never had/seen before). Of course, I can't recall everything by name, but what I do remember is the food was really tasty, surprisingly cheap and not oily!! Noticed a lot of tables ordering off the regular menu, in addition to having dim sum, which is always a good way to go. Noodle dishes looked good (and were a generous serving), and the table next to us ordered soup. Extra bonus points for their parking lot and (short) distance away from the dim sum congestion that abounds in the ID. Am definitely going to wrangle the dim sum troops for weekend brunch at Tea Garden soon!

The dim sum here was ok..nothing to write home about, nor memorable. I decided to try this place out after reading other yelpers comments. I've got to say, this is the only time that I've been disappointed by a yelp review. There wasn't much of a variety and we had to wait for new items to come around every 30 mins. The cart ladies were a bit pushy on the dim sum items though and would try to talk you into taking all of the dishes off their cart .

I was driving home through a terrible rainstorm and on impulse pulled into the little parking lot of Tea Garden. I decided to go with Dim Sum, but I think I would've been better off ordering from the main menu. Unlike the previous places I've been to, they weren't rolling around carts. Instead he gave me a small piece of paper that listed the options so I could check boxes. However, some of the names were vague things like "little basket" (that wasn't on there, but I forget the exact term) and I wasn't sure what ingredients were in it. The server was very kind, but we had communication problems. So I ended up with some stuff without meat and some with meat. Even though I only ordered 3 plates, somehow I ended up with 6 plates. I figured I'd just have leftovers for later and just kept them anyway. I fed the meat-containing items to my roommates later and they said they were good. Prices were reasonable (my enormous 6 plates were still only $17, and it was enough to feed me and 2 of my roommates when I got home) I wasn't that into the dim sum, but based on the other reviews I'll have to come back and try something off the main menu. This seems like a great place for big groups... they have tables that can seat a ton of people.

They're so good to me! I live around the area, and I know a staff worker there. The seats are comfortable they are so creative! they make their own version of some foods

Okay.....I was craving dim sum on a rainy Satuday morning so we drove all the way to Seattle to get some (that's bec Tacoma doesn't have a dim sum restaurant). It was between Tea Garden and Jade Garden but after finding out that Tea Garden has free parking, we opted for that. I've never had Jade Garden's dim sum so I cannot compare the two but what I can say is that Tea Garden is easy to find, has great parking, is clean, has great and fast service and really really good dim sum. The variety is great and you can definitely see the freshness of the food. The shirmp is bringht and pink, the veggies are very green and the tasty. My complaint was that it was a little spendy (our bill was $48.00 for 2).

Overated! Food is not good, the older woman that works the front is a b***h, and service sucks! I've been there a few times, decided to give them more than once chance, and everytime, bad service! There are a few carts that come by, by even being seated in the front, they rolled right by, and I literally had to chase them down to get food!! They also opened not too long ago, for a new restaurant, the place looks kinda dumpy! Drive up the block a bit and down Jackson to New Hong Kong if you want good dim sum!! Will not go back again!

I previously left a very positive review but have taken it down. The food is OK. A little pricey for what you get, but OK. What really bothers me is how they don't take care of the exterior of the restaurant. The grass is never cut, they leave trash bags laying around with rotting meat, and they dump food a block away which attracts rats and pigeons. Disgusting.

I love the Tea Garden! We go there for dim sum on the weekends, and it is some of the freshest, best dim sum in Seattle. My favorite items are their steamed shrimp dumplings, which also come with chives or cilantro. They are so amazing, I dream of them. Aside from that, their sticky rice in tea leaves is excellent, as is their Chinese broccoli. For those commenters who have complained about the Tea Garden's authenticity, look around the next time you go there for dim sum. How many people are from the local asian community? Most of them! Not only is the food delicious, but it's authentic and reasonably priced. On top of all of that, it's a wonderful place to bring people of all ages. My two-year old is entranced by the carts and all of the other children who go there. Another tidbit of information, there is a dim sum menu for parties of six or 12 that's fantastic! So, round up those friends! Oh, they also have lots of parking and are able to accomodate large parties.

Chinese parents came to town again. Went to the much anticipated Tea Garden. Parking lot is free and plentiful. Roomy dining area. I'd like to complain about decor in ALL Chinese restaurants. Why isn't there any consistency in their interior design? It's always a little roman pillar there and a bamboo plant next to it. What gives. I certainly feel embarrassed. Wide range of food-- from SPAM SANDWICHES (?!) to fried rice. We had a few hot pots which surprisingly didn't all taste like purple. The brown sauce in each pot was different. This is a miracle in American-Chinese food in my opinion. It seems like they have a big pot of brown, and dump it over some shrimp and bok choy and BOOM! A seafood hot pot and a shrimp hot pot. Not this place--Hooray! The service is nice, they messed up our order but we were rewarded with traditional Chinese desserts like mango pudding.

I'm a bit divided about how to rate this place..if i could, id actually give this placea 3.5/5. I've been here twice now but both with different experiences..keep in mind that I'm a hugee dim sum fan (if you want reallly good dim sum..you go to canada btw) 1st experience: tons of hussle and bussle but the service was quick. There were tons of variety and even dishes I had never tried before, which came to me by surprise! Everything was fresh and the manager lady was super friendly. 2nd: The variety shot down by like 75%....it was just few of the typical items constantly being carted around. The stuff they did have was really good but overall, the 2nd experience was a bit disappointing. I'll definitely return though, mostly to find redemption ....ho ho ho

1: While waiting for our to-go order we got tea! 2: Delicious food. We ordered off the main menu, and got Chow mein, general tso's chicken, almond chicken, sweet + sour pork, and won ton soup. All delicious, all hot and fresh with fluffy white rice. All for less than $40.

good dim sum though a little on the greasy side. what i like about this place are the friendly servers, free parking in the restaurant's parking lot, affordability. what i don't like are the bathroom, overall cleanliness but then again it's the international district. i honestly would come again just because of the parking convenience haha.

The worst Chinese meal I've ever had. Honestly, I felt like I was being fed recycled scraps. The quality of the components were so low that I almost didn't eat at all. We started with a little dim sum, which was ok. Most of that stuff is prepackaged, so its kinda hard to f*ck up. But for the main courses... Duck and Taro Soup Tasted like they had boiled taro in plain water until the water got kind of murky and starchy, then threw in some waste left over from cleaning a duck. Spicy Garlic Chicken Deep fried chicken bits that were more bone than meat. The meat itself was tough and gristly. The chicken wasn't spiced at all, just deep fried. On top of the chicken was about 1/2 cup of deep fried minced garlic, which is as gross as it sounds. Service was reaaaallllly slow even though we were one of two tables in the restaurant. 15 minutes after we finished eating, I had to go find my waiter to get my check. No thank you.

For some reason I really enjoyed this place...and I'm compelled to give it three and half stars I'm rounding up because it was more good than bad. First off, let's say that the building and decor hasn't changed much since it was Vietnamese Pearl before. The inside is still danky, spacious but semi dirty like you could expect from any chinese restaurant around chinatown so what do you expect???? We came in as a group of 30 from our Church choir for dim sum. The ladies were very attentive to us and the owner came out to help us herself. They were super nice, food was really good....and it wasn't just because we were hungry. The stuff here is genuinely made fresh like you would get from any dim sum place on a Sunday afternoon but the perk here was that there wasn't much of a wait! We were tended to right away and the meal was pretty darn good. I really enjoyed everything. Our glasses were kept filled throughout our meal....good signs of a well functioning dim sum joint! Will be back!

Attention Yelpers! Tea Garden has got to be the worst dim sum place in the world. I would be doing all Yelpers a disservice by not releasing this disclaimer, horrible food, horrible service, what is dim sum without shumai, right? This place is absolute "YUCK"!

Delicious and dirt cheap, this place was great. While two of our party spoke Mandarin (which helped out, surely) we got dish after dish of delicious littleorsels. Wasn't crazy about the chicken feet or the tripe, but everything else was great. I look forward to more next time I'm in Seattle.

Ordered delivery tonight and it was 100% terrible. There's really no point in explaining how bad everything was, just know that when you order from here you will not be satisfied with your meal.

It wasn't oh-die-awesome dim sum, but it was pretty decent dim sum. The place was nice enough for a dim sum place, with lots of light streaming in from outside. Looking out onto the far wall, what I thought was a mirror to make the place look bigger, was apparently more room... with some rather nice Chinese decor. I was told that they could hold pretty traditional Chinese weddings there. There was also a lit Chinese cabbage from their cashier stand that kept catching my eye, every time I was on the lookout for food carts. The first lady who came by our table set off a good tone: she was quite friendly and cheerful. Later service wasn't as great, but it was pretty decent. We only had the problem of finishing eating - along with the last drop of tea, only to wait what seemed like quite a while for somebody to come by and notice that we'd stopped eating and that we had an open empty pot of tea near the edge of our table. Eventually, we had to flag down a steam cart lady walking quickly away from us. There didn't seem to be too much in the way of selection, as there were really only 3 small carts, which seem to be divided into the fried/breaded cart, steam cart, and baked cart. They had chicken feet, sticky rice, shrimp dumpling, scallop dumpling, vegetable dumpling, football dumpling, 2 other types of dumpling, steamed gyoza, stuffed green pepper, beef noodle roll, baked bbq bao, taro cake, shrimp tofu, siumai, short ribs, egg custard, spring rolls, something that looked like a sweet curry bun, and maybe about 3-5 other dishes. Every once in a while, somebody would come out with freshly cooked sides - chow mein, fried eggplant, steamed chinese broccoli. I kept trying to think of what it was I wanted that seemed to be sorely missing, but it wasn't until I left that I remembered some of my favorite from the staples - tripe, beef tendon, steamed char siu, jin dui. And, what's more, only 3 shrimp dishes? For shame, Jade Garden probably had 5 times as much - so, considering, Jade Garden's shrimp overkill, I was expecting about 6 shrimp dishes from other dim sum places. Over all, the experience was pretty decent. I wouldn't mind coming back to see if they have expanded selections on other days.

We sometimes order lunch at work from Tea Garden. The quality and taste if the food has been ok. We placed an order this week, and they kind of messed up our orders a bit. Jumbo shrimp dumplings weren't really jumbo, missed an ingredient for special order of chow mein, and I ordered custard layered cake and they delivered 3 little custard pies...now that is wrong. And delivery time took longer than usual. Overall it was average...3s will suffice.

Tea Garden Restaurant is pretty much an average dim sum restaurant choice for lunch. We came here on Sunday around 1:30pm so it was somewhat empty already there. They had a large round table which accommodated our 10-people party so it's a decent choice for Sunday lunch for larger group. The food taste decent and have enough salt on food that you don't really need to dip anything into a sauce to add flavor. But some of dishes were bit too salty for my taste. Other than that, there aren't much that I can say was different about this restaurant compared to other Chinese dim sum places in Seattle.

Don't know how the food is because we still haven't received it. We ordered online from Tea Garden through their website at 7:16. Estimated delivery was 45 - 55 minutes. At 8:21 I called them to find out where it was. They could only tell me that the order was ready but the delivery person had not arrived to pick it up. The girl who answered said she'd call the delivery person and call me back with a time. At 8:24 she called me back and said it would be about 10 more minutes. It's now 8:36 and the food still isn't here. This is unacceptable. If we knew the delivery time was going to be this long we would have simply picked it up. We won't be ordering from here again. ----- Got the food. It was mediocre at best. Maybe it would have been better if it were something approximating at least warm, but it wasn't. Definitely will never bother with this place again. Pity.

The food was up there is being the worst I've had, and the delivery was 30 minutes late. Usually by the time I'm that hungry, everything tastes gourmet, but I couldn't even finish. In all fairness, this was the only time I got food from here, so maybe they were having an off night. But it was bad enough for me to write this review and not want to go again.

Average. The fried calamari, fried chicken wings, and the rice is good. I ordered Beef Chow Fun.. Tastes like a cast iron skillet . Yuck. My roommate got the tangerine chicken although I'm not sure that's what she actually received. Spring rolls are soggy and greasy. Cheese Rangoon is odd and needs work.

Please save yourself the trip. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken. Each bite was hard. Either these were previously frozen and now have been dried out due to being heated again or they were really bad/cheap pieces of chicken. Think old, dried out Chicken McNuggets that you have to take a drink after each bite. I ordered the House Wonton soup. I'm used to Chicken Wonton. My first bite into one of these Wonton's tasted funny. I looked down and it looked like uncooked chicken. I asked my partner "Is that uncooked chicken?" Nope... it was Shrimp. Great, I'm allergic to shrimp. Unfortunately I can't remember what my partner order but he was so disappointed with it he threw it away without eating half of it. On a plus, the rice was good. The other thing that caught my attention when we walked inside was how disgusting dirty it is. Just look at the carpet by the front door and the chairs by the front door. ABSOLUTELY disgusting dirty. I dont mean "Run a vacuum over them" dirty. I mean rip it up and throw it out. If they allow the customers to see that much filth right at the front door, it really concerns me about what we CAN'T see. You could not pay me to eat here again. Not when there are so many other great Chinese restaurants around.

Review is only for dim sum, not their regular menu items or delivery -- I've come to Tea Garden for week day dim sum with my coworkers for a couple of years now. It's fast, cheap (stuff your face and still come out under $9), and they have their own parking lot so you don't have to deal with finding parking in the International District area. Is it the best dim sum out in Seattle? Probably not, but the food is generally consistent and good and the service is attentive. I like their ha gow - it's packed with shrimp! Sometimes they'll have a seasonal dim sum dish that you don't typically find in your standard dim sum repertoire. If you feel the selection of dim sum is lacking, it never hurts to ask if they can make it for you. I've found that they are happy to. The only thing that I miss is their durian pastry which they usually have on the weekends.

Review for Delivery - Our "go to" delivery in town. We have tried every Chinese restaurant that delivers for grubhub.com to our home and this is always the most consistent and tasty. Friendly drivers and they deliver the correct food (should be obvious but there is nothing worse than waiting an hour for the wrong food). We especially love the wontons in chili oil and are in general pleased to keep giving them business. What needs improving - their spring rolls. I wish they actually had filling in them. yup, you read that right, on numerous occasions a single piece of cabbage was in side...

So, I'm still new to Seattle living here for the past four months. However, I'm not knew to Chinese Food. I decided to try the Tea Garden today mainly because I wanted delivery and I had a coupon from GrubHub for $5 off of the bill. So, my roommate and I order: -Sesame Chicken -General Tso's Chicken -Sm. House Wonton Soup -BBQ Pork I really wanted to like the food especially since I have been jones-ing for some good Chinese food. However, I was highly disappointed with the decision as soon as the food got here. The Sesame Chicken was a gelatinous mess of chunks of chicken with a brown flavorless sauce and a handful of sesames tossed on top of bed of broccoli. The General Tso Chicken was alright. It was a nice balance of spicy and sweet but a weird vinegar aftertaste just put me off. It was dressed with a few pieces of overly stir fried broccoli. It was okay I definitely have had better and have had worse. I can't say much about the Wonton soup as I don't like it myself. The broth was clear and full of large pieces of chicken and green onions in the broth. I tried a taste to see if the broth (like most Wonton soup broths) was salty, however, to my surprise the broth was actually quite flavorful without tasting like I was drinking a glass of water that had three bouillon cubes dissolved in it. The BBQ Pork was a disappointment for me. I love Chinese BBQ boneless spare ribs and all that bright red sauce that they are drown in. This is what I was expecting when I ordered the BBQ Pork from Tea Garden. Unfortunately, this was not what I received. Rather I received a generous portion of dried out overcooked pork tenderloin that had potential to be something but was not that appealing at all. Overall, I don't think it was a horrible experience but I also don't think I will ever eat there again either.

I order from here pretty regularly when I'm lazy and get delivery. The best dishes are their sesame chicken and the honey walnut prawns, which are very tasty but pricey for such little food. ($13 I think). DO NOT GET the lemon chicken. Lemon chicken is supposed to be light and citrusy. The sauce for this dish is thick and basically pure sugar - it tastes like lemon cake for fuck sake. I threw away the entire dish after a few bites. Cream cheese wrangoons are nothing to write home about. Overall, decent chinese and good when you don't feel like cooking

This is the spot I go to when I don't have the patience for my favorite Eastside dim sum spot (Top Gun). Located in a less attractive part of town, this place is a hole-in-the-wall, and is nothing fancy. What's great about it is: never a wait, everything that I normally order at a dim sum joint... Is good. The staff is pretty helpful. Although, they don't always understand your request. Price is decent. Finding parking is never an issue, they have their parking lot. So, If your looking for a quick dim sum fix and don't wanna deal with all the crowds, wait, and BS... I recommend this place.

We used to live around the corner from this restaurant, and enjoyed the food more than many other Chinese restaurants in the area. When we moved, we were happy to see that they deliver. So, we've been ordering online with them without too much of a fuss for the last several months. However, twice in the last month the service has been beyond bad. The first time we had a problem, it took two hours to get our order. We chatted online with the ordering service after the food did not arrive after it had been over an hour. They said they contacted the restaurant and it was on its way. 20 minutes later I called the restaurant and asked about it, and they said t was on ts way. It arrived about 20 minutes later, and we do not live that far away. The second time, after it had been 60 minutes, we contacted the online service to check on it. They said the restaurant lost our order, and it would be another 45-60 minutes! They asked if that was OK, and obviously we said no, it is totally unacceptable, and we cancelled the order. I can understand one oversight, it happens, but two times in a month is terrible. Plus,we had ordered the dinner to share with a family member who had helped us with a home painting project that day, and he went home hungry because he had other obligations and ran out of time. As much as we like the food, we are never ordering from them again.

What a major letdown! With a half a dozen other great dim sum options in the city (or perhaps more) Tea Garden isn't working hard to stay on top...or even in the middle when it comes to competing locally for hungry customers. I came here with 10 other friends and though we were seated right away, I had a hard time sitting because the first thing I noticed was that all of the chairs were absolutely filthy. I'd rather sit on a fabric seat on the BART train in the Bay Area than sit on one of these chairs for a meal. But without any other options, I sat down and just tried not to think about it. The decor and actual layout of the place is surprisingly nice. Nothing fancy, mind you. But from the outside this place looks like some kind of bubble tea shop. The paint and the sign are covered in really bright, almost juvenile colors. Then inside it's just like any other restaurant with more calming colors and some random art on the walls. There are plenty of tables for groups ranging from just 1 or 2 people up to about 20. They've got nice large tables for big groups and we spotted a group of 20 or so sitting at two massive tables that were pushed together. So they're super accommodating and ready to handle whatever size group comes their way. Be mindful though that if there are a lot of large groups, you could get overlooked quite a bit as there are a lot of tables to serve. Seated way in the back, we didn't manage to get the best choices of food off the carts. Many items seemed to be unpopular and those same items came back time after time. We finally had to place orders for the items we wanted because they simply weren't available on the carts. My boyfriend was really surprised as he's frequented this restaurant and said he'd never had this issue before. It was a bit disappointing because after a while it felt like we were being ignored intentionally because we kept declining the food off the carts. It wasn't that we didn't want to eat more food, we just wanted more options. There were no dumplings. no potstickers, no pork buns, no shrimp wrapped in those yummy wide noodles... It was all sticky rice and taro cake. Which we'd already had a few orders of. I don't like to rate an experience as low as two stars but this was the most disappointed I've been with any dim sum experience in Seattle before. So below average that I don't think I'd bother coming back.

Swung by for some late dinner. I didn't realize how vast it is upon entering, like the back ends up at Lake Washington. Anyway... I sat down up front and the gentleman with the glasses took my order. He was a pleasant fellow. He sort of read my mind in how he'd recommend and if I'd somehow like something or not; also in a subtly humerous way. I get the Salted Fish and Chicken fried rice - it had Gmoney's approval, lol. Not sure if it's normal; I didn't taste much fish. Maybe it all just blended in and had subtle taste. Tea was incl, as well, I think. That was good.

Very quick, good portions, average price. Food tasted like it had been under a heat lamp for quite some time. Got chicken chow mein so that was probably the case. Will have to try another entre some day...maybe.

We were craving dim sum in the middle of the day and my coworkers and I stumbled across Tea Garden on the Eat24 hours app and decided to go for it. We ordered a variety of items ranging from shrimp dumplings to turnip cakes and the order came to around $35.00 including tip for everything. The food tasted like your average dim sum and it was priced the same as some of the restaurants in Chinatown but the problem was that there were constantly late. We ordered from them twice and each time they were over 30 minutes late with our order. The food was still luke warm but it was really annoying to ask for something to be delivered at a certain time to end up waiting around with grumbling tummys for luke warm food. I gave it 3 stars because they deliver...it would be even higher if they could figure out their timing better.

This was so disappointing. Ordered for delivery: -sweet and sour chicken -honey walnut prawns -egg drop soup -rice It was a Monday evening and my 7 year old and I were hungry. They said it would be 45-60 minutes... it took well over two hours. The food was cold, greasy and rubbery. Each of us took a few bites and ended up throwing it away (such a waste of food & money!). We had pb&j for dinner, instead. I wanted it to be awesome. It was awful. Never again.

The absolute worst delivery experience of my whole entire life. Never, never, never order from here.

This was the worst Chinese delivery experience of my life. Might be better when dining in, but for delivery I won't be trying it again. The General Tso's chicken was beyond soggy. I don't expect it to be very crispy for delivery, but this was seriously like...phlegm covered chicken with pepper flakes and sugar. I threw 3/4 of it out after gagging down 1/4 of the order. Time to make a peanut butter & jelly sandwich.

I am not too familiar with Dim Sum but my lovely boyfriend grew up eating it. He recommended this place. We decide to take a lazy Sunday and go to have dim sum. It's right outside of China town on Rainier Avenue and they have a parking lot so finding parking is not a problem. We arrived around noon and the place had a couple of tables that were busy but we were seated immediately. Since I had no clue what to order, my guy decided to take the lead. Of course everything he ordered he spoke to the lady in Cantonese so I really had no clue what was going to be placed in front of me. Well, there are the ladies who bring carts around, one with appetizers, one with entrees and the other cart has desserts. For an appetizer we ordered a plate of egg tarts, a plate of pot stickers and a plate of buns filled with bbq pork. My favorite was the pot stickers out of the three but egg tarts had a buttery flaky crust and the bbq pork was just okay to me. Next we ordered some type of rice with veggies and pork steamed in a banana leaf, some shrimp in thin rice paper and some rice porridge. The rice porridge was soooo good. It had flecks of salty pork and scallions and the rice was cooked until it was creamy. I gobbled up almost the whole bowl only saving him a few tablespoons. After perusing the menu of other options they have, I will come back for the rice porridge and some other goodies I saw. Considering he paid for our lunch, I really didn't know how much all the food totaled but from what he said it is pretty cheap. The only downside I saw was really the ladies coming by every 10 minutes like labor pains asking if you want something else, but other than that it is a good dim sum stop to try on another lazy Sunday.

We had a large family dinner here last night. I had a okay experience but I think they can do much better. I was force to sit at the kid's table but I don't care, because more food to go around on the lazy susans! They are under staff so the service was very slow. The decor was leftover from the last three previous management or owners, nothing special or fancy. We had about 14 dishes...so here we go...(pics) Pros: Crab Meat and Fish Maw Soup - great flavor, my daughter had 2 bowls. Peking Duck - juicy, crispy skin and warm bun to make a sandwich. Honey Walnut Prawns - perfectly cook, crispy and sauce is about right. Salted Fish & Chicken Fried Rice - tasty, not overly salted PeaVine - cook perfectly, but needs more garlic Spicy Eggplant - perfectly cook but needed to be in smaller chunks. Steam Fish - nicely cook, good flavor, no fishy smell which is a plus Seafood Chowmein - okay but the noodles need to be more crispy Parking Lot - big lot with vacant spots to park next Tea Garden Salt & Pepper Porkchop - Well season but small portion Chinese broccoli - hard to mess up this dish Assorted appetizers - jelly fish was solid, didn't care for the other cold meat. Cons: Typos on menu - Mice beef? I think they meant Mince beef? Sea Bass HotPot - Needed more seasoning or some roasted pork in the mix, not sure it was the freshest fish. Tangerine - not enough flavor, need to be more crispy, more heat than orange sauce. chicken - okay, but not enough garlic garnish sauce for the chicken Slow service or more staff with designated jobs... The tempurture, super cold...I had to put on my jacket half my dinner. I really want to give them 3.5 stars because the owner was the cook, it is family owned, friendly, and somehow the owner knows my mom & uncle. The owner greeted us after the meal and gave us extra rice to bring home. They also gave us fresh juicy oranges slices instead of the same old desserts. Great change of venue for Chinese food with a large back area for large family dinners. I'm sure we will be back.

I am a regular because Tea Garden has consistency. Yes, it's not the best place in Seattle for dim sum or Cantonese food, but parking is always easy, and the wait never that long. It's a great bang for the buck. You can count on very good prices for lobster and crab, with the seasonal offerings such as king crab and spotted prawns. A favorite comfort combo for me is the lobster cooked with ginger and scallion over a bed of soft noodles, with steamed prawns (heads on, of course). The menu is extensive and the owners are always very helpful in guiding the uninitiated. The variety in dim sum is about average for Seattle; Vancouver is in a league of its own here in the West Coast, IMHO. Just a word of advice on parking- try to avoid the rear spots (against the non-restaurant building)- my friends have had their car broken into there in daylight involving the side facing the building. You are better off finding street parking if those are the only spots left.

Really cool place for large groups, and the food is tasty. Nicely staffed too. Bill for 65 people eating a ton of Dim Sum? $28.00 . No, but you get the idea. Be sure to look up at the ceiling. It's like a ghetto Venetian Hotel. Love it.

If rice is not included with a dish, for the love of all things delivery why don't you say it on your menu? Waited 1 hr 15 minutes for cold breaded chicken with no rice. You could forgive the quality of meat with enough sauce and rice I suppose, but it does not hold up as an entire meal. Will never order here again.

I have been to Tea Garden (chinese name literally mean red house) many times mostly for dim sum. Their food is somewhere between average and below average. The only reason I keep going there is because a friend is strangely fond of it, perhaps because of the ease of parking. The sign of a good chinese restaurant is a line of people waiting. This one is the opposite -- they always seat you immediately. Last night I went there for a dinner dance party with live band. Again, the food is average or below. That may be why they need to have dance parties to attract diners. In that respect they are successful. The non dancing section has almost no diners. As for the live band, they are decent although they sometimes play the music too slow for dancing. Cost about $25 per person.

look here's the deal: these people don't understand English, it's not the first language ok? so don't order delivery or call in a take out and then get mad at them if the use a little creative exchange for your order fulfillment. for the people that leave negative feedback or 1 to 2 stars you are clueless. don't go to this restaurant expecting this spotless clean CHINESE restaurant? that thinking is crazy. don't go to a dimsum restaurant at 1:30 or after and expect great food then leave crappy feedback? DO go to this restaurant around 10:45am. it's better then Jade Garden. I'm serious. does anyone remember The King Cafe? now it's a Wing Luke Museum. In kings hey day they were the benchmark for dimsum.... I cried when they closed. this is as similar as I've come to the kings cafe. the shumi is great, the shrimp balls rock, the egg custard is flaky, the pot stickers are great. if you have a better place i'm all ears....

This would be five stars were I not so confused. A couple hours ago, I found this restaurant listed on GrubHub. The only catch was that there didn't seem to be any reviews to steer me yea or nay. We were desperate for good Asian food delivered, so we decided to fire in the dark, even though they were charging a $5 delivery fee. The food came in an hour, and it was awesome! My husband is a Japanese citizen, and his pickiness regarding dishes like katsu chicken is high. He was very impressed, and we agreed to do this again. I came back to the computer to write a review, and guess what? There's a notice on GrubHub saying this restaurant does not accept orders online ("now's the time to use those people skills", says GrubHub, like insulting our interpersonal skills will make up for removing a restaurant from their service? Why not just remove it if it isn't a GrubHub offering?). So now we are not sure. Is this our new favorite takeout, or was it a one-time deal? We loved the food, but with increasing urban density in Seattle, the field of restaurants offering delivery is growing, not shrinking. If it doesn't come to us, we're not interested in going to get it. Hopefully this was a time-of-day issue. If the restaurant is available and delivering any time soon when I go to order, I'll come back and change my rating. We ordered a hundred bucks' worth of food, and the wonton soup, moo shoo pork (oh my god!), honey walnut shrimp, and the Mongolian beef were all outstanding. So were the house versions of fried rice and soft noodle chow mein. They tossed in some complimentary hum bao, which was extra nice. The only dish that didn't draw raves was the General Tso's chicken, which was decent, just not "wow". I also noted this place, a scant four-and-a-half miles from our house, advertises its delivery service on the web, too, so the delivery dilemma remains a mystery. We will stay tuned. We note that the only unhappy reviews seem to be regarding service rather than the food itself, so my advice is if you can get it delivered, DO IT! That five buck delivery fee is there whether you order the minimum or the max, so we got enough to feed an army; dinner for tonight, lunch for the rest of the week for everyone!

Excellent and affordable Dim Sum I'm spreading the word to you! There is wonderful steaming fresh food, also the pastry is very tasty, and makes your mouth water. The Hostess/ Owner is gracious, friendly, generous. My bad, I didn't get her name. I will next time when I come again with family and friends. I definitely recommend this restaurant. I give it "5 stars", for the excellent beyond average meal of Dim Sum. (I've been to some of the best and the dishes here, they are much tastier.) ~You will be pleased and very happy you ate here.

I'd actually give this place 3.5 stars. It is not the best, but certainly not the worst dim sum place in Seattle. Free parking is always a plus. The service is usually pretty quick (depending on how crowded the restaurant is) and always friendly. The tea is not that great, but it is OK. The food, on average, is decent. You won't find anything unique or spectacular, but you can get plenty of good ol' run-of-the-mill dim sum items.

Very disappointed with this place. We ordered online and picked up at the location. When we got home and opened up the bag, we quickly realized we did not get all of what we ordered, instead we were left with 2 skimpy meals which were lacking flavor - NOT worth the $25 that we paid. We also asked for not spicy and one of the meals had 4 whole peppers in it, the first one nearly burnt my boyfriend's face off before he noticed them. Go elsewhere!

We went here for the first time last sunday to have dim sum, and it was really good. The char siu humbow are the best I've had in many years. I brought some home to my wife and she made the same comment without me even saying anything. The pork shumai were good too. Now, it is not Jade Garden, so if you are expecting the large selection and quality that they have, then you will be disappointed. However, Tea Garden is still very good, and I would not hesitate to go there again They were also very nice, and attentive. You should give them a try.

The first night I went here to have dinner, we went for a bday party. Ordered the $100.00 set dish thingie mababer..(I can't think straight right now) Either I was really hungry or the food was really good. Maybe a bit of both. Food was fresh and tasty. Favorite was the Fried Chicken and Fried tofu sauteed in mushrooms, chicken and scallops. Note I was in love with the fried stuff...hmm.. Then the next week we came back for Dim Sum. I was a bit disappointed. I thought it'd be somewhat close to what dinner tasted like. Most of the dim sum was a bit cold and there wasn't much variety. But, the pro's of this place..Cheap eats, parking, and the service is really great. I actually got my water filled, unlike many other Chinese restaurants where your so thirsty from all the msg and your wondering why your puckering your lips... Would I go back..sure why not.

I really like this place for delivery. I have been there once, but din't like the place inside. It was smelling funny. Sometimes when I order they always ask me how spicy, but they never really listen, most of the time is way too spicy.Delivery is very fast and delivery drivers are friendly. Their best dish in my eyes in chicken Kung-Pao...yum

Went there for dinner tonight, place is not the cleanest, kinna dim as well. They have special written on paper handing on the wall everywhere, I guess you have to know how to read Chinese in order to know what their specials are. I guess asking them will work too. Their geoduck was on sale, $9.99/lb, cheaper than buying it yourself at the market. Tried their geoduck "dual-eat", which is steamed and soup, not bad. we also ordered a tofu dish, vegetable, or fried lamb, they are all good. The lamb wasn't very hot, it would be better if it was. At the end, we got complimentary dessert too, which is coconut and mango pudding. Price was not cheap, but reasonable. They have their own parking, maybe around 10 spots, and there lots of street parking at the back too. When we go dim sum during lunch, usually pretty packed. But it was pretty quiet at night. Which is both good and bad. The bad thing is, it makes you wonder how fresh is their seafood, cause their turnover rate can't be too high. Service was good, the guy served us was kinna funny and good service. Overall, I would give it a 4-stars, but not quiet yet. Let me go back for more and they don't disappoint me, I will update =)

This place has changed management yet again. Hmm...makes me wonder. We were here for dinner. The menu looks downgraded from their extensive version last year. Here's the run down of the food: Hot and Sour Soup: ok, but NOT hot (spicy) at all. Thanks to my mom's urging to put the chili satay in, it fixed it up quite nicely. Salt and Pepper squid: Still good Chinese Broccoli with Oyster sauce: Why they put one dipping bowl for six people is beyond me, most places drizzle it on. So I went ahead and dumped it on. Lobster in Ginger and Green Onion Sauce: Good, but not what mom was expecting. LOL! This is not So Cal! Eggplant with Garlic: Pretty good, but a bit greasy BBQ Pork Fried Rice: A winner with all of us Mongolian Beef: Nice tender, and flavorful The place was eerily empty on a Friday evening. Not much else to say, except it was ok, and we walked out with full bellies.
