Friendly people, and lots of goodies to choose from. I didn't want to get the last chocolate chip cookie and asked when the next one was coming out. 30 minutes :/ but the guy in the front reccomended their wheat germ chocolate chip cookie and surprisingly it is really good. And he gave it to me for half off :) oh yeah

Hot chocolate is not out of a package so it's not sweet. They may not put enough chocolate in it though so make sure you taste it before you leave. :) yum

I ordered a toasted turkey sandwich. It was pretty good. I was starving though, so maybe it wasn't as good as I remembered. The staff here are awful though. I ordered my sandwich and paid. The two guys working just stood there talking to each other about plans for the weekend. So I assumed there was someone in the back making the food then. Nope. The moron who took my order slowly went to the back and washed up before starting to make my sandwich. I told them I was in a hurry because my shift started soon. So obviously I said, "I need it to go". Once the sandwich is complete, they bring it out to me on a plate. I corrected them and said again that its "to go". The guy actually sighed and went to wrap it up. Seriously? Sorry that you're only there to do your job...real inconvenience I know. I understand that working in food is annoying sometimes. I work in a restaurant and bar so I know what its like. But I wasn't even being abrupt or mean to the guy. So why the attitude. Anyway, the sandwich was good. That's the only reason for the second star. Will I return? Nope. Probably not.

Great salads and awesome cookies! Side note: If you work in Uvillage you get a free cookie with your meal, even if you order online! Definitely a plus!

By far my favorite sandwich/salad place to eat. Everything is made from scratch, which I love! There are so many great choices on the menu. By far my absolute favorite is the hot veggie sandwich. It is so warm on toasted bread. It's the perfect way to eat your veggies! Other favorites include the foccacia bread, the caprese sandwich, dawn's vegan salad, and the tuscan white bean soup. My husband swears by their PB and Stuff sandwich. As for the pastries and desserts: I had the chocolate chip cookie... I am not sure where they get their chocolate chips (the milk ones) but it leaves a funny after taste that does make me want to order another. I also had a sample of the chocolate PB brownie... also not that great. The PB center crumbled instantly and separated from the brownie. Other positives about this place: free wi fi, and plenty of seating. I've never once had bad service and the employees are very friendly. The better than any other sandwich place. So suck it Panera! Love this place and would recommend you give it a try! I am positive you would not be disappointed.

I just had a terrible experience trying to get a breakfast sandwich. There was only one other customer in the store. The employee was making drinks for this customer and it took him over 5 min to even acknowledge I was there. Then he said he'd be with me in a min. 5 minutes later, no help. There was another guy there making food, but he said he wasn't allowed to place orders. You'd think the guy making drinks would take a second to see what I was trying to order so the cook could get started on it, but I guess that's not how they do it there. I eventually walked out because I had to get to work. Terrible service.

Looked inviting. Unfortunately when I ordered I was obviously creating a huge inconvenience to the young woman with short blond hair who was serving. Her expression was thus was the worst day of her life and it's was just sooooo annoying that people kept coming in and asking for stuff. I ordered, paid, no thank you from her naturally. Strangely the rest of the staff acted very very friendly. Should have put on of them of till. Place was almost empty on a Saturday - Shame. I think she should find another job she likes more. Put me off the chain. I won't be going back if they allow unfriendly disengaged staff.

I have come here many times and I ordered only one thing, the egg sandwich with sausage and cheddar. It is really yummy, maybe the best sandwich since I came to Seattle!

Two stars for their lack of customer service, cleanliness and overall slowness. I work at U-Village and therefore am limited on time and choices for lunch, so every now and then I stop in to specialty's as there are no other options for an inexpensive lunch. Everytime I go here I vow never to return, but then I break down and give it another try...when will I learn?! The food is actually pretty decent, but it takes FOREVER to get your food. I just waited 15 minutes for a to go order of soup & they were not even busy. They have poorly trained staff, always looking very unkempt and they are always so damn slow getting food out. On occasion they have run out of bread....uh, hello you are a "bakery", make more bread! You are better off walking the extra 50 yards to QFC and getting something from the Deli.

solid 3.5 for a relaxe pit stop after shopping @ University Village. much more cozier than a Starbucks and fresh sandwiches too, not Prewrapped LOL. good value for under $7, the roasted beef better than expected. big enough to share. free WiFi. they deliver.

All of the soup and sandwich options I've ordered from Specialty's have been really solid and when I don't know where else to eat at UVillage this is my go-to, because I know I'll always be satisfied. Service has been fine but not memorable (nothing bad but nothing outstanding). And even though I'm giving Specialty's a four-star rating, I'd give their freshly-baked cookies five stars. AMAZINGLY gooey and delicious. LOVE

Dearest Specialty's, I have saved you for my momentous 100th review to show my eternal love and devotion for you. I know you're a chain, but your fresh-from-the-oven melty cookie morsels cut to the heart of me. When I bite into your soft, supple flesh and feel the molten chocolate as I chew slowly and let the flavor storm wash over me, I know we're one. I know you understand me. I know you dont think I'm fat for eating two cookies, nay... three. All the soccer moms with their screaming children seem to fade away and all I can see is my cookie next to my delicious small southwestern salad. All I can taste is my fresh-brewed iced tea. All I can hear is the thrum of blood in my ears as I ache with anticipation for my next bite. Thank you for keeping me warm Snickerdoodles. Thank you for always being there Double Chocolate Chunk. Someday I'll find a better way than money to repay you. And please dont think I stalk you, it's not like that. I just want to make sure you're ok. From my heart, Jessica

The food was delicious, the atmosphere okay, and the service sub-par. I had an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich on a croissant. Delicious! Probably one of the best I have had. The problem is that there is a long line, and the way it is set up, the line gets in the way of tables and getting coffee orders. Then, the line moved somewhat slowly and the cashier was not exactly friendly. Not rude, just felt like she wanted to be elsewhere. They give you a buzzer for your food, then once it is ready they call out your name. We had a very difficult time finding a table (for only 2) as they were all full - of people sitting and not eating. The food is also somewhat expensive. Overall it was okay, I would probably go back if I was in the village, but in the future I would get my food to go.

Still a fan, only a little less, and it's really my fault for ordering the same sandwich for the 3rd(??) time this month. I think it's time to switch it up. Came by over the weekend. I skipped breakfast so I was starving. Placed an order for the turkey/cranberry, no mayo, for to-go and it was ready within several minutes. The bread crust this time wasn't so tough, which made for a swift eating sesh by the kid's playground where I watched my niece play with other kids. Played a bit more with the macro setting, I have a new pic of the sandwich to replace my older one. :)

I love Specialty's but they messed up by order here!!! I always get the Chairman. This time I got that and a bottle of water. They didn't give me my water and I totally spaced until I got to my car. I was parked far, and didn't have the time to go back for it. While my sandwich was good, it wasn't right. There was no Avocado or ranch dressing. Where there is typically avocado/mayo, it was a mix of mayo and what looked like relish. Not sure why it was made this way, but it's disappointing when the sandwich and water costs $10, and I didn't get water and the sandwich was made wrong. I still love Specialty's but this location disappointed me.

I still have trouble reconciling how upscale the entire shopping center where this café lives is based on its proximity to supposedly starving college students. We came here to try Din Tai Fung for the first time and stopped here, stuffed with carbs and drooping visibly, for caffeine one glum gray day. The interior matches the exterior of the entire mall. Sparkly clean, sleek and chic. Pink-cheeked and smartly dressed people everywhere. Enchanting for others, but means little to me. The bright eyed staff take your order crisply and deliver some surprisingly good java! I read good things about the baked goods and salads, but overall it's a pretty pricey place to sip coffee with a sandwich when parking can be a bear and frankly, in a city like Seattle, good coffee can be found on nearly every block. This gives Specialty an OK mark in my book. We might be back... someday.

Oh, my heaven!! I went in for my first time today and I already can't wait to go back. Great staff, clean facility, and best BLT I've ever had in my LIFE! Find me a better one - I dare you. So good! Can't wait to go back.

This is my second time here. The first time I came, I had a day-old cookie and a pastry (I forget which) and we were very pleased. We quickly resolved to come here again. Unfortunately, the second visit here was not as good. We ordered a large salad and one of their popular sandwiches. The sandwich good, although a bit pricey for a typical sandwich between sliced bread. Their salad, however, is what lost them the stars (and their service). I was shocked when I received a plate of sliced up cabbage, the kind you can buy from the grocery for $3 a bag, plus some random add-ons. I got their Asian salad, and all they did was add crispy flakes on top. There wasn't a single orange or anything. Super disappointed. Do NOT get the salads, unless you want to McDonalds salads for 3x the price.

My friend and I were in the area doing some shopping, a little Din Tai Fung-ing (LOL). She's originally from OC and was excited when she found out there was a Specialty's in the area. She dragged me in the cafe and had me try their cookies (she said these cookies are one of the best she's had growing up). Unfortunately, they were out of the chocolate chip cookies, so I tried the peanut butter ones. I found it to be ok tasting; I don't see what the big deal is about. This place has a lot of cookies to pick from and other things on the menu (sandwiches, salads, etc). I guess this is like Panera but with more cookies.

Sometimes inconsistent portions inside sandwiches. Once I got blue cheese instead of goat cheese. Sometimes to go orders are not ready on time. Food is good when portions are served correctly.

I am a fan of Specialty's and this is one of my favorites because they're in U Village and right near to Trophy (What a combination!) We come here a few times a year when shopping at U Village and it's always been consistent service as well as not too busy that you can't get a seat (like other locations). They have free wifi and also outdoor seating for those summer months when you just want a pastry or a light lunch. Their caesar salad (my go to) has been changed slightly as of late as it doesn't seem to be as tasty but still a steady establishment.

Really liked everything except the onions on my BLT. While I appreciate they were trying to be original, you don't really add vegetables to a sandwich recipe that is defined by its name. I HATE ONIONS but everything else was really good

I've been here at least 4 or 5 times for lattes and they never ever taste like coffee. I'm certain it's 90% milk and 10% flavoring and that's it. WhY DONT YOU TASTE LIKE COFFEE???? And it's consistent too ): not good, sorry specialties.

On one of U-Vill's busiest shopping days of the year, Dec. 23, Specialty's ran out of ALL BREAD at 2:30 p.m. How does that happen? We got there before they were out of everything - we had a choice of poppyseed and foccacia. I chose the latter for my sandwich, which was very tasty. Seriously lacking in overall service. The monitor menus don't describe what anything is (easy enough for "Hot Pastrami", but what about the "Rebecca"?). The cherry on the sundae that was our visit today was my noticing the reuben is gone from the menu. I asked the girl at the counter if they didn't have it anymore. Her response: "Uhhh, yeah I guess we don't have it. I mean, I've never heard of it before." Yikes.

Special special special.... but hella expensive. Haha. Look here's the dealio chump... (:P haha jk jk)... you want a good sandwich eh?... you loaded?... try Specialty's. JKJK. Honestly the sandwiches at Specialty's are really good. ESPECIALLY the Brie Apple sandwich. BUT all that said its still just a sandwich. Honestly $10 for a sandwich is just too much I think... No chips, no drink.... meh I dunno. All that said I go to Specialty's often because its convenient but... I know its going to be a little expensive. Well lets get right to it shall we? :) Brie Apple Sandwich: YUM. This one is a winner winner chicken dinner. Its hella good. You've got bacon, you've got braised apples, you've got brie (and even more brie for $0.80 more). Who can ask for more? Honestly after trying many of the sandwiches here... this is the one you want Pesto Chicken: A close second. This one is good too and you can tell that the meat and the pesto are good quality stuff! I love this sandwich and its only been recently that I've switched over to the Brie Apple. A word to the wise: The rest... they're alright... but I'd be weary of the bread that comes with the sandwich. The ones above are served on special bread! AND being the son of two sandwich store owners.... the bread is truly what makes a sandwich. Stay clear of the loaf breads. They will really ruin what should be a delicious sandwich... Well! I'm all out of words and all out of time. Happy eating friends!

Stopped in here on a cold day to grab some tea and to snag a table to sit and chat with a friend. The line was short and moved quickly and the employee I ordered from was very friendly. They had plenty of types of tea, but unfortunately only one that was caffeine free. Luckily it was fairly tasty, but I was a bit bummed they didn't have more options considering how many teas they had. The dining area is a bit small and cramped, but we managed to find a table and not feel too close to others. Some of the other food on the menu looked pretty good and the pastries in the window case looked tasty! I'll have to come back some time and try some of those out.

Unhappy service and a sad salad with wilted and crushed lettuce. Something must have changed here, as it used to be good and reliable for salads and service. Service: the young man behind the cash register practically glares at customers. No smiles! And rather than 'greeting' you (e.g, "Hello. May I help you."), he stares and waits until you speak. Then the salad came and had damaged lettuce--meaning that the kitchen isn't paying attention. I returned it to the counter, got a refund and left. Too bad!

After half a day of walking around the U-Village and helping my cousin with her back to school shopping we decided to sit down and get a light lunch. Walked into this cafe and was greeted by the cashier, He told us the specials of the day, and then we were told about their freshly brewed coffee's and tea's too. Decided on getting a small cup of their Vegan Broccoli and Cauliflower soup, Cousin ordered the kid size tuna sammie and a chocolate chip cookie. One ice green tea made to order and a natural orange soda. Prices are not bad for it being a cafe. Free wifi if you sit inside. Talking to the cashier, he told me that they had locations in Los Angeles which excited me due to the fact that I couldn't stop drooling over their bake goods (it's a weakness I'm tell ya and if you saw their cookies I'm sure you would have been in the same position as I was). Our food was ready when the pager we had went off. Took our tray and sat outside. Yes, it was another warm sunshine day in Seattle! I am not big on tuna sammies, but I did take a small bite of my cousin's. It was bland but had a nice crunch from the celery. The soup was well worth it. Plenty of bite size pieces of broccoli and cauliflower in each spoon full. In addition, the cheese I added makes it that much better! Come for the people watching, stay for their delish food, and bake treats! I promise this is one café that will not disappoint!

This is a great spot to get a quick bite to eat. Service is consistently fast & friendly! It's refreshing to see smiling faces from behind the cash registers! It makes my day! There is a variety of moderately priced soups, salads, cold sandwiches to hot paninis. The selection of daily baked goods are to die for! And they sure disappear quickly! I love their cookies to death, especially the chocolate one with white chips! Perfectly chewy and airy on the inside, and nicely crispy when you first take that bite to the very last one. The espresso drinks and brewed coffee is also great. This is a nice cozy cafe that can get very busy but worth a visit!

I passed this bakery after making an errand and decided to try it out. I was very enticed by the blueberry coffee cake, especially with the sugar drizzling on top. It was a bit sweet as expected. I also had the hot chocolate which was delicious. The person who took my order was also very enthusiastic and nice which is a big deal in the morning. My overall experience was great and I would come back again to try their other selections.

Been here & have had box lunches at the office. Really hit or miss. Liked 1 or 2 things. Extremely indifferent to severely disliked more. Turkey, apple, Brie was nasty. Pictures show fresh sliced apples, mine were cooked. Don't remember the others because they weren't memorable, even looked at the menu to try to jog it. There are better options both for office lunch and cafe. Some baked goods are good, others, eh. Cafe can be chaotic with ordering line/process/receiving, kind of a weird system either that or bad training.

I stopped at this little café after taking my little cousin to get a hair cut. This is a great pit stop for a quick bite to eat, they are fast and friendly. Great place to grab a sandwich, soup, salad or baked good. Even though this place is overpriced and the serving sizes are out of control it's consistently tasty and good. The PB and Stuff sandwich and the Big BLT are my go to orders. Every time I order these babies, I'm satisfied and it's great for sharing. Their online ordering system and catering options are great. Saves you time on the pick up because this location can get packed with ladies lunching and families who stop in for a quick snack. The service can be hit and miss so no, it's not just you.

No one here seems to know quite what they're doing. The gal who took my order didn't know what was on the sandwich, they didn't call my name when it was ready so I eventually just spotted it on the counter, and the coffee urn was almost empty. The sandwich I got was ok; not bad but not noteworthy. Not a terrible experience but not great either.

Meh is right. I came in here with a friend to have a coffee and chat. She ordered a drip coffee, I ordered an iced vanilla latte and a small salad with dressing on the side. Her coffee was easy - she walked over to the brewed-coffee-area, poured it herself and moved on. My latte took 15 minutes! I ordered it, but because the barista and cashier are the same person, it took 15 minutes before either of the people working there were able to make my coffee. I don't blame this on them, but on the management who obviously do not have enough people working. If someone calls out sick you, as the manager, come in and help out. If you're only having 2 people working at a place of this size - you're not doing it right. Anyway, while waiting for the latte, my salad came out soaked in dressing. The lettuce was white, instead of green. I don't see how this was a mistake as the cashier asked me specifically if i wanted dressing on the side - and I watched him check that button on his order-menu-thingy. Anyway, I sent it back and they re-did it... but regardless it was still meh. The lettuce was old, the croutons weren't crunchy... In the future, I'll pop across the walkway and grab a latte at the fancy restaurant nearby. This place deserves 1 star, but the peppiness and happiness of the staff was worth another star.

A good place for a cheese and egg sandwich and I hear their cookies are phenomenal---not that I would know that or anything! Located inside of U-Village next door to Gap. Friendly staff and free wifi!

I have made Specialty's my meeting place for all my friend's and meetings. It is casual and open Sun 9am-6pm, Mon-Fri 9am-9pm, Sat 8am-9pm. This is also a superior meeting spot at u village because the parking is easier to find on this side and it's not as crazy busy at Starbucks! The staff is always friendly, though the line gets long during rush hours. The daily soups are always delicious and the croissants and cookies are staples. Wish they had bagels but other than that this delicious cafe serves the best cookies and sandwiches I've ever had. Specialty's bread is hardy, thick and the perfect partner for the best sandwich. They also make great chai tea latte's.

I found a way for this spot to earn another store...online orders! Today I ordered some sandwiches for myself and 2 coworkers. The online ordering system is really easy to use and make substitutions to any of their offerings easy! In addition, their nutritional information is very thorough down to each ingredient. After my order was confirmed, it allowed me the option of receiving a text message, like a page to say my order was ready for pickup! It was fantastically easy and I bypassed the service issues. Yay!

Dear Specialty's, We are never ever ever ev-er getting back together. Like ever... Our relationship truly is a Taylor Swift song. We've broken up more times than I can remember on account of morning bun shortages, but you keep bringing me back with that glimmer of hope that today will be different. Sigh, it's not. At least the sandwiches don't run out (certain bread types do, especially the ciabatta) and they're quite yummy. I especially like the Turkey and Cranberry sandwich- I wish they would have an "add stuffing" option, at least during Thanksgiving season. I don't think I'm alone when I say there's nothing like a Gobbler. There's almost always a long line at this location but it moves fast and they give you a buzzer to alert you when your food is ready. You can also make a prepaid online order and pick it up from the window which really cuts down on time. I have a question for ya' Specialty's: there used to be a nutrition info poster on the wall and now it's gone. What gives? Does it have anything to do with the fact that the calories listed for the morning bun were only half of what the website says? Just sayin'. I knew it was too good to be true! In the meantime I'll have to keep counting on the downtown location for my breakfast roll fix. This tumultuous relationship could be easily remedied by the following: keeping up with the apparent demand of morning buns so that they are not completely sold out by noon. The rolls are yummy and all, but this is no Crumble and Flake here, so I can't justify driving over to the Village within the first 5 minutes of opening, just to get a chain bakery baked good. P.S. Maybe tomorrow? Day 14 of 30 for 30- almost halfway there!!

Wonderful!! We had the ciabatta breakfast sandwich and it was delicious! All their baked goods looked amazing and the coffee smelt great! Fabulous customer service.

I love their cookies! (Yelp does not let you "yell" in all caps, which is disappointing. I was going to leave a four word review, since that's the best part about Specialty's, and leaves me drooling as I ponder them even now.)

On three separate occasions they messed up my sandwich... 1st time they gave me the wrong one... Wasted my lunch break going all the way back just to get a half assed replacement ... Sloppy soggy etc I get the vegetarian w/o avocado not hard..... I've complained about that n today they put avocado on it after taking fifteen minutes to make it!!! Why?!?!? It was me n one other lady ordering.... I come back no one offers me a free sandwich or money back... Just remade it... Didn't get to eat it on my lunch either cause now it's over... Never again will I come here!!!

Consistently delicious food and gracious service. This location serves Intelligentsia coffee, which is awesome. I've never had a bad sandwich or pastry here - Hot Alby, Hot Hammer, breakfast sausage & cheese, black & white cookie, day-old sticky bun... there's sidewalk seating for the odd sunny day and the prices are quite reasonable.

I've only ever had the sandwiches and the cookies, but everything I've tried has been pretty good. I usually go for one of the turkey sandwiches-- the cranberry one is tasty but the turkey pesto is my favorite. They forgot to put the pesto on it once, and I didn't notice until I got outside, but they were nice and helpful about fixing it for me. The peanut butter cookie is to die for, but then again I'm a sucker for peanut butter cookies. The sandwiches are definitely better than Subway or something like that but unfortunately, this place is pricy for what it is. I also wish that they would do some sort of combo-- half sandwich half salad kind of a thing. Overall not a bad place to stop in University Village though, especially if it's nice out and you want to eat outside.

I really like this place. They're italian sandwich (I forgot what it's called) on foccacia bread is awesome. I also tried their sticky buns for the first time yesterday. The sauce is the perfect balance of gooey, caramelly, and sweet. Definitely recommend

I asked if my Ham &Cheese Croissant can be toasted, I only took one bite. The cashier was like no you bit it already we can't do that because it is not sanitary. I was like just wrap it around a bag, she did what I said and walked away. What a crackhead, really disrespectful. The food was still kind of cold and the Ham&Cheese Croissant was a crap load of ham and barely any cheese in it. Most of my bites are cream cheese and the croissant.

  • Danielle H.

This place was a disgrace compared to my previous experience. Sandwiches were teeny and the quality of turkey disgusting. We pulled the turkey off of our turkey pesto sandwiches and ate them veggie style. The quality control is nonexistant! We ordered the exact same sandwich and had different toppings!!! Huh? BUT the cookies redeem this place in my eyes... the oatmeal bran chcolate chip and chocolate chip cookie are out of this world.

Ok, Specialty's is a good place to stop by for a quick bite to eat, but there is nothing wow'ing about the place. It is your run of the mill sandwich and coffee shop that just so happens to offer some really tasty cookies and other dessert treats. In that regard, sorta seems like an oxymoron to eat a healthy sandwich then to eat a butter filled cookie doesn't it? Oh well, it's worth it in my book. Prices are decent and if you happen to be with a vegetarian, a good casual place to grab a bite and have a little chat!

  • Megan H.

The baked goods are amazing and the staff was fine but the atmosphere is crowded and noisy and seating a challenge. It was not a fun place to sit and enjoy an cinnamon roll. If you get something, which you should, get it to go.

I'm usually pretty satisfied after a filling and delicious meal at Specialty's. I love the UVillage store because there's outdoor seating and it's really enjoyable on sunny days. I usually order the Big BLT sandwich and it's definitely my favorite! I really love their broccoli cheddar soup too, it's pretty rich and creamy though. Aside from their entrees and side dishes, their desserts are sooo bomb!!! Have you tried their black and white cookie? If not, please do so. Soon. Their cookies are really thick and the chocolate chips are big and really worth your buck. Their other cookies like the white chocolate and oatmeal are delicious as well. I also really love their breakfast quiche, it's pretty much the best quiche I've had... but that's not saying much since I don't eat quiche that often but trust me, it hits the spot early in the morning if you're craving a salty breakfast. Keep in mind, Specialty's is considered an upscale sandwich joint so it's definitely pricier than your average Safeway sandwich. Sandwiches are about $6 or $7 dollars, I think. But they're worth it once in awhile, especially for a picnic day or something!

Yum yum yum! I miss a lot of Seattle things, living in Tacoma. I get into town every week, but it's hard to get to everything... ...so I was really thrilled that my sister had a bunch of Specialty's treats at her party this weekend. I wouldn't feel justified writing a review, but apparently CATERING is a new venue for them. Lucky me! My sis called in a rather larger order at 10AM Sunday morning and picked it up at noon. Nice presentation, everything fresh & packed to keep it that way. Racquel says she uses them for all her office catering already. Although it's a slightly pricey option, I'll keep that in my back pocket for an emergency, fer sure. Two large trays of finely crafted sandwiches, including the turkey & cranberry, the veggie & the roast beef were up for grabs. Smart touch: packets of mayo & mustard were served on the side. Also, a large composed salad with a great bean mix, avocados, grated carrots & cherry tomatoes. Eco touch: all the utensils were biodegradable. For dessert, a small tray of 7 layer bars, brownies and 2 kinds of cookies. Everything I tried was Specialty's delicious. As I said before, not "cheap" - there were less than 20 people at this shindig & they spent almost $300. Again, not "cheap", but worth it. Well, at least I got to be a beneficiary! Specialty's Catering...the guests will thank you. Apparently those who don't would rather have McD's...

Quite possibly THE BEST Semi-Sweet Chocolate Cookies ever. period. And the younger kids that work here are friendly and helpful.

Mmmm, I go here for 3 items, the chocolate chip cookie, ham and cheese croissant, and the ever delectable ChairMan Sandwich! Seriously good eats! I have had to wait a bit for my food, but the wait makes it all worth it. The staff are all nice and friendly. Yes it can get a bit noisy thanks to the way the place is built, but it's ok. They wont take offense if you have to yell your order at them. Don't even think about counting your calories going here. LOL!

I've had my fair share of Cafe's, this one looks nice but the music is WAY too loud, the cranberry scone I ordered was DRY and the cashier gave me an attitude because I couldn't hear her, again music is too loud. And the tea tasted weird, later I figured out it wasn't the type of tea that I ordered. The cafe wasn't busy when I was there so no excuse. Maybe I should have stuck with the cookie. I have been to the one downtown and they are always busy but know how to treat their customers!

I used to go to Specialty's in SF when they first opened and I worked around the corner. I am still a fan! Their online ordering is a great feature if you are in a hurry. The baked goods are fantastic, though a little pricey for cookies. The bread is to die for. I am a sucker for their Turkey Cranberry. It has a nice amount of turkey and the cranberry sauce doesn't taste canned. The sprouts offset the sweet of the cranberry. The spinach/goat cheese/strawberry salad is always a hit. The $5.79 bought me a better sammich than I have been getting in Ballard lately for more $. Skip this place right at noon during the school year. It is packed with students and moms hanging at the mall. Go around 11:30 or at 1. In the summer, eat outside. I had to wait 10 minutes to get my order to go on a sunny day at 12.

Standard sandwich shop but easy online ordering kicks it up a notch. I can just order online, pay with a card and the food is ready by the time I walk down from my office. And after 12 online orders you get a free order for the average of your 12 previous orders which is not bad. I've had mixed experiences with ordering in person...waited more than 20 minutes for my sandwich while others who came afterward were just flying out the door but usually service is decent. I definitely recommend ordering ahead though especially at lunch hour. There are also lots of screaming kids in this place no matter what the hour so to-go is always the best option. The coffee/tea is Intelligentsia which is a bit above average but nothing to rave about in book. The baked goods are downright awful. Bad enough that even my gigantic sweet tooth won't go anywhere near them. In summary, stick to sandwiches, order online and go outside and enjoy.

  • Max M.

I order the vegetarian sammich on wheat when I go here. The bread is fresh baked and they pile on the fixins: tomato, cukes, shrooms, pickles, sprouts, avocado and green leaf lettuce. I then, usually, hopefully, sit outside in the sun for lunch and watch all the stay at home moms scramble after their little munchkins. It's a pleasant way to spend a few minutes of my day and I'm left feeling healthy and satiated for about $7 bucks.

The drool factor is very high for my favorite semi-sweet chocolate chunk cookie. I feel like its my dirty little secret. This cookie is ridiculous. Hands down ridiculous. These voluptuous cookies have the right amount of brown sugar, chocolate, and butter...to make a pretty gosh darn amazing chocolate chip experience. This is how I roll: I walk in order 3 semi-sweet chocolate chunk cookies, one to eat now, one to give to another cookie lover, and one saved for another cup of coffee. *drool* Does Specialty's sell anything else besides the best semi-sweet chocolate chunk cookie? You go down there and tell me if you think differently.

whatever bread my Club Sandwich came on was great. Soft interior but sweet crunchy crust. Packed with veggies including sliced green bell peppers (which work really well in a sandwich for crunch and 'green' fresh flavor). reasonable price for big sandwich $6.79 free wifi very tempting baked goods display (I came back later and ate a sticky bun... it was pretty good, although I admit the ones I make are better -- I'm all about the modesty) tables inside and out

There's just something about a warm semi-sweet chocolate cookie that's fresh and warm. So good! I also love the sandwiches here, my personal fav is the turkey cranberry and the boyfriend loves the turkey pesto. I love the crust on the bread used on the turkey cranberry. Seriously, so good with all of the seeds on there! My only real complaint here is that the sizes of the sandwiches have gotten significantly smaller over the past few years. They used to be big enough where the boyfriend and I could share one and both be full, but now we each have to get our own and sometimes it's not enough. SAD! The cookies, however, are worth it. The bundt cakes? Ehhhhh. Stick with the cookies.

  • Sean C.

Pricey but delectable semi-sweet chocolate chip cookies ($1.80) and an inviting if slightly corporate place to sit and talk are most of the times enough to keep me satisfied given that I all but swore off caffeine at the tender age of 20. If I wanted to do a pre-date/coffee date though, I'd go somewhere with a bit more local cred.

  • Coty H.

The salad I had was perfectly fine, but nothing to phone home about. As far as being gluten-free, you're pretty much limited to salads but make sure your salad does not come with a gluten-filled dressing or croutons. They're sneaky about it. I'm sure most normal diners (those without dietary restrictions) would have a perfectly okay time eating here. I don't know that I would go back. I just wasn't that impressed.

  • Jeff K.

M-E-H. The only thing saving this place from a single star is free wifi. It also helps having good company. I had a Orange Almond Breakfast Bread with a hot chocolate. I've always been intrigued at how to make the orange tasting frosting on pastries, but this one on the breakfast bread was awfully sugary. I know a lot of sugar goes into it, but it just didn't have the right balance to it. Yes, I know you want to ask, "Are you some gourmet baker or something, dumbass?" No, but at least I try, jackass. Would I go back just as a coffee date, probably. But strictly to get a bite? Not likely. I'm not the biggest fan of coffee shops.

  • Zoey S.

Yum! My sandwich here was stupendously delicious. I ordered an eggs and grilled veggie sandwich on whole wheat bread. The eggs and veggies were SO flavorful (sort of peppery and spicy) and the bread tasted as though it had just been pulled out of the oven (pretty sure it just had been actually...). It was really awesome. I offered my friend a bite, but then decided it was too good to share and took the offer back. Seriously, awesome sandwich. The space isn't really anything particularly spectacular, but you'll be in yummy sandwich la la land so I doubt you'll notice. One thing that could be improved on is the soup selection. I mean, c'mon, it's Seattle, we're freezing. I forgive them though, I wasn't missing soup... too distracted by the sammy.

    (4)
  • Hannah Y.

I'm not a huge fan of the sandwiches here, but the milk chocolate chip cookies are to die for! They're large enough to share with another person. They're the best when they're fresh out of the oven, which, oftentimes, they are. They're crunchy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside--the absolute best!

  • Alli D.

One of my favorite places to grab lunch at the U Village. It's usually pretty busy and packed with mamas and strollers, but once you get your food and find a place to sit it's so worth it. My most recent meal here: a. Sandwich with turkey and cranberry sauce, on really thick-cut fluffy bread. b. Spinach and strawberry salad. A bit on the sweet side. c. Peanut butter chocolate chip cookie. Oh. My. Gawd. So. Good. Tip for the mamas: There are definitely cheaper options out there, so don't come if you've already blown all your cash at Baby Gap or Crewcuts.

I love Specialty's! Their sandwiches are great (the big BLT has a ton of bacon on it!) and the cookes can't be beat. Love the black and white and semi-sweet the most and my husband loves the wheatgerm but they're all great! I recommend!

OMG- there are only 2 reviews of this place!! This place is effing awesome!! Ok, maybe I don't want everyone to know about this place- the lines are usually pretty quick, people nice- great SBUX alternative for meeting for dates!! Great seats outside. Iced tea, a cobb sandwich and a cookie and I'll be set for life...seriously.

  • Mindy K.

Love their Hot Alby tuna melt!!! One of the best I've found in Seattle. The Turkey Cranberry is excellent too. Haven't had a sandwich yet that I didn't like. Soup is pretty good, better than anything else in the hood. Cookies are amazing!! Especially the fresh and warm ooey-gooey chocolate chip ones! Yum! Kids sandwiches are a good half size but they should come with cheese, odd to just have ham or turkey. Kids like cheese, not ham with lettuce, tomato and a pickle. Place is usually crowded, hard to find an open table (very small tables too) and super loud. Best tables are outside when it is warm enough!

Went once last year for breakfast. The store is clean and pleasant. The food here has always been underwhelming for some reason I cannot put my finger on. It is fine on price and the service, what little there is, is fine... Specialty's is stuck somewhere in the purgatory between a nice cafe/bakery (like Macrina), on the one hand, and a full-on restaurant on the other. It offers a larger menu than many cafes but lacks the pleasant cafe atmosphere. The arrangement is cafeteria style, so there's no service. Not my choice for breakfast next time.

    (3)
  • Holly G.

Love Specialty's! I've been to this one and the one in Bell Square, and both are great! I always get the Cobb sandwich. I love the potato poppyseed bread it comes on! By default, all sandwiches come with "the basics" (tomato, red onion, lettuce, pickle, Italian vinegarette, and black pepper), but you can specify which things you want and don't want. This is a great place to come for lunch, I've never been disappointed!

    (5)
  • Kristin C.

They Serve some of the best coffee I have ever had. I know its a chain, but its way better than the likes of Starbucks or Tullys. I have only eaten there once, I had a crossaint breakfast sandwich and it was good, a little too peppery but lots of cheese. The menu looks fairly standard, but I would be willing to give the bakery and lunch items a try. Good ambience for a chain, and like I said great coffee! UPDATE: Apparently only the one in U-Village is good, we went to the one at Bellevue Square and it was the worst coffee I have ever had, and the breakfast sandwiches were only mediocre. But, I am going to the U-Village one again soon!

THREE WORDS (one being heavily hyphenated): WARM MILK-CHOCOLATE-CHIP COOKIE I am a self-proclaimed cookie connoisseur and this, my dear Seattlites, is in my top 5 favorite cookies EVARRRRRRRRRR. I like Specialty's other food too. I got their vegan salad and it was delish. It had peas in it! Imagine that- a green salad with peas in it. How delightful! My only beef with this place is the plastic utensils and paper plates for dine-in patrons. It's annoying because it's wasteful, but it's even more annoying because eating a salad with a plastic fork just sucks. But, it's the only complaint I have which is saying something because I am a complainer. Yum, I can't stop thinking about that cookie now.

  • Kirsten J.

I came here with my mom the other night. Right off the bat it was disappointing to find that they were out of a lot of ingredients and my mom had to keep changing her order. This was around 7 p.m. on a Saturday night and there were only a couple other people in the restaurant. I ordered the Thai Chicken salad. The salad's lettuce was shredded up like coleslaw rather than tossed and fresh and it wasn't anything special. The prices aren't terrible but I felt like for an $8 salad we should be served more than on plastic trays and paper plates. I would rather go to Panera than come here.

    (3)
  • Safa S.

I can't believe this place is a chain. All their breads are made at the shop... everything is home made. We especially love: black and white cookie pumpkin bundt Any non-meat sandwich... nummy turkey and cranberry sandwich....

  • Kat F.

This place is great. Their sandwiches are delicious - my favorite is the Mediterranean which has grilled veggies on flatbread. They don't skimp on the condiments either - I've ruined at least two shirts by dripping on them while eating a Specialty's sandwich! My roommate swears by their salads and the cold veggie sandwich. I don't eat many sweets but if I did, I would probably get them here. It's a nice place to come in out of the rain and grab some lunch if you're feeling like treating yourself, since their prices are a little steep.

    (4)
  • Angie Q.

I've loved this place since the day it opened! Oh the aromas you inhale as you are walking by from the coffee and pastries. YUM! The coffee is better than Starbucks, the pastries are FAR better and fresh, and there are so many sandwiches to chose from! I chose the cold sandwiches over hot. My favorite is the Chairman (w/less mustard and sprouts). My favorite pastries include: Cinnamon rolls (I believe they sometimes have an orange or pumpkin flavored one), and this really good cheese and onion roll. Due to the design, it can get quite loud though.

    (5)
  • Ann C.

Not bad. But the high ceiling made it very loud; more of a wolf-down-my-meal place, than somewhere I'd want to meet a friend for coffee. Their clam chowder was okay, definitely better than some I've had, but fairly middle of the road. The roll that came with it was super dry, though. Even butter wouldn't have made it palatable. I don't know that I'll return, because it was a little expensive for what we got. The people working the counter were polite, but they really need to have one of them clearing the dirty trays and dishes off the counter, and what was left on the tables.

Specialty's has great food, good coffee and a good location in the U Village. I love the little mini-quiches (or whatever they call them) which basically look like a mini-omelet that was baked in a muffin cup. It doesn't have a crust so it's mostly pure protein, but small and at a good price, which gets you going in the morning. Their cookies are amazing, too.

    (4)
  • Teri T.

Not a Bargain... Way over Priced. Better food and bargains near by. This is my third time, and my last. They're not getting better... worse. Although their bread is freshly baked and good, I should have bought a loaf, went home and made my own wich. OR.. gone around the corner to Starbuck's and saved a few bucks and got a better sandwich and value. First, even for the quality bread.. they are way Over Priced. My sandwich today was the Cobb. Barely any blue cheese, a few bacon bits, skimpy on turkey... mostly lettuce and tomato with a dab of mayo and guacamole. For 7 or 8 bucks you expect a pretty good sandwich particularly when there are no sides.

    (2)
  • Niko B.

Got the hot pastrami sub and it was delicious. The menu is not very informative though. It doesn't tell you what's in the sandwiches, so you have to guess from the names.

    (4)
  • Andrea H.

I love the turkey sandwich here but the Mediterranean sandwich is even better. Probably one of the better things I have eaten since moving to Seattle.

    (5)
  • Jamie B.

I've been here twice, mostly because it's conveniently close to work. Each time I was disappointed by the service, prices, and food. I got sandwiches both times, so I can say nothing of their bakery that people seem to think highly of. During my most recent visit, I waited 15 minutes for only an egg sandwich with ham and cheese just to be told that they were out of ham and "would bacon be okay?" I waited another 5 minutes for my sandwich. While waiting, I watched the order window where a young man with long hair, probably a cook, stuck his head out the window to tell someone something, allowing his hair to drag in someone's salad. He didn't notice, neither did she. Ew. Also, there was a hair in my sandwich. Had there not been, I would have still been disappointed by the relatively bland and small amount of food I got for the price I paid. I wasn't the only one waiting this long, either. I won't be going here again.

  • Steve B.

I wish I liked this place more. The sandwich is good, but for 6 bucks, I wish it came with something. Some chips. A piece of fruit. A hunk of bread. A small cookie. Something. Anything. And their salads are just unappealing. Too gooped up! A design your own salad option would be wonderful! Also, from an esthetics point of view, the tables in this location have an odd feel. Especially the ones near the soda machine, you feel really stuck out in the middle with people standing over your table waiting. A little more division between the dining area and the line/service area would help this place out a lot!

I had lunch-dinner here today. I wasn't expecting much because it was in the University Village and not priced insanely. I got a very decent sandwich for a very good price (Four cheese on herb bread). The ingredients were really tasty and the service was fast enough. I was pleasantly surprised and will probably go there again on my next U Village outing.

Got a semi-sweet chocolate chip cookie yesterday after friends raved. Granted, it was warm but that was the only thing I'd 'rave' about it. No texture, just warm goo that tastes like the boring tollhouse recipe. For $2 that's b.s.

Great sandwiches. Service can be a little lacking but I guess they're just underpaid teenagers, so what can you expect.

My tomato and mozzarella sandwich was quite nice, on a delicious type of bread that I totally missed the name of. I appreciated the fact that it was all served on a compostable plate- good for you, Speciality's.

I went to Specialty's craving a good sandwich. I ordered The Chairman and asked to add bacon (for an extra 2 bucks!). My sandwich arrived sloppily made, without bacon, and without the alfalfa sprouts stated in the sandwich's ingredients. I went back to ask for what was missing and they were nice about it. Unfortunately, even with the missing components, the sandwich just wasn't that good. The herb bread was really bad (had more overpowering dill in it than any other herb) and would be more appropriately named "pickle bread." Don't get me wrong, I love pickles and dill, but this was over the top! The whole sandwich seemed thrown together, making it impossible to eat without a fork and knife. For $10, I was expecting a lot more!

I have eaten at Specialty's Downtown and at University Village several times and every time have been incredibly bored and kind of grossed out. This place is like The Olive Garden for baked goods. Specialty's cookies taste like they have a ton of lard or butter or shortening or SOMETHING in them. I've eaten a whole one on a couple occasions and every time that cookie sits in my tummy like a ton of lead. There is nothing magical about the food here, but it is edible. Actually I would rather spend my money at Mcdonalds--at least they don't pretend that their French Fries are healthy.

how did i not discover this place until now? one sandwich and it's won me over. had the turkey cranberry, recommended by a friend, and it was just perfect. your regular turkey sandwich on whatever bread u want, add cranberry, veggies and sunflower seeds. perfect combo and a light, but filling meal. i'll be back here again.

I've been here once and had the Tomato Mozzerrala sandwich. It was huge and yum! Comes in a herb Focaccia bread which was tasty. I thought using red pepper pesto in this sandwich worked really great.

Too bad!

Sometimes inconsistent portions inside sandwiches. Once I got blue cheese instead of goat cheese. Sometimes to go orders are not ready on time. Food is good when portions are served correctly.

When I go to Specialty's I've only gotten their freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. Why? Because they are freaking amazzzing. So large, so gooey, so crispy on the edges. My perfect chocolate chip cookie.

I ordered a cafe latte and I got half a cup of coffee (regular coffee) and steamed milk. I'm sure the baked goods are delicious, but don't come here and pay 4 dollars for warm milk mixed with old coffee.

I love Specialty's! Their sandwiches are great (the big BLT has a ton of bacon on it!) and the cookes can't be beat. Love the black and white and semi-sweet the most and my husband loves the wheatgerm but they're all great! I recommend!

    (5)

    (5)

  • Angie K.

    (2)

Got the hot pastrami sub and it was delicious. The menu is not very informative though. It doesn't tell you what's in the sandwiches, so you have to guess from the names.

Yum! I went here with a friend the other day and had the Mediterranean Sandwich. It was HUGE and yummy. The bread was excellent and the mozzarella really good. I'd go again.

We might be back... someday.

Friendly people, and lots of goodies to choose from. I didn't want to get the last chocolate chip cookie and asked when the next one was coming out. 30 minutes :/ but the guy in the front reccomended their wheat germ chocolate chip cookie and surprisingly it is really good. And he gave it to me for half off :) oh yeah

solid 3.5 for a relaxe pit stop after shopping @ University Village. much more cozier than a Starbucks and fresh sandwiches too, not Prewrapped LOL. good value for under $7, the roasted beef better than expected. big enough to share. free WiFi. they deliver.

LOVE

The cookies are really, really good. They used to be 1/2 off near closing time, but I guess they aren't anymore bc the last time we went there, they charged us $10 for 4 cookies. Good, but expensive cookies.

Too bad!

  • Diana N.

When I go to Specialty's I've only gotten their freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. Why? Because they are freaking amazzzing. So large, so gooey, so crispy on the edges. My perfect chocolate chip cookie.

I stopped at this little café after taking my little cousin to get a hair cut. This is a great pit stop for a quick bite to eat, they are fast and friendly. They offer a wide variety of soups, salads, and sandwiches...and peanut butter and jelly for the kids. I enjoyed my salad and look forward to another visit the next time I go to U Village.

I love their cookies! (Yelp does not let you "yell" in all caps, which is disappointing. I was going to leave a four word review, since that's the best part about Specialty's, and leaves me drooling as I ponder them even now.)

LOL!

I love their cookies! (Yelp does not let you "yell" in all caps, which is disappointing. I was going to leave a four word review, since that's the best part about Specialty's, and leaves me drooling as I ponder them even now.)
