We originally came to north Seattle for red mill burgers but we left because they didn't take cards (come on people it's 2014). After we left we decided to try Scooters and wow did we make a good choice! Excellent and filling burgers! Great onion rings! Super fast and nice service! I will be bringing my family here again.

so my second time at scooters. I walked in just now super excited to get a bacon burger! I begin telling the girl at the counter that I wanted a #2 lunch combo with no burger sauce or tomato she looked very confused when I said no burger sauce so I turned to the menu and corrected myself because it's in fact called scooter sauce. I then proceed to order a mini peanut butter shake. She walks away and throws a shake together and puts it on the counter opposite from where I was standing. She then gives me my total and I pay and have a seat. While I'm sitting down im looking at the menu and questioning the price she gave me bc it was way lower than it should have been considering the fact that I thought I got a combo and a shake. I walk up to the counter and asked her if she had in fact gotten my order correct. Of course not. And she had already crumbled up my receipt and never offered to give me one of my own. The girl who was cooking in the back was very friendly and offered to give me fries for free all the while the girl who took my order the wrong way tried to make me pay to fix it! I take my burger back to my seat and behold there's scooter sauce dripping from it!!! I walk back up to the counter and there's nobody there. I see two girls whispering in the back and one of them acknowledged me and took the burger back to fix it. The same girl who took my order looked very annoyed at this and sighed when I asked her for a water (which I wouldn't have had to do if she would have gotten my order correct the first time) I finally get to sit down and have my meal and it tasted great just how I liked it but the whole experience really turned me off. I will only return if there are different staff members working - I will always look thorough the windows before entering. The last time I went there was a very helpful and friendly woman who took my order and what seemed to be the owner making the orders.

A spend way too many calories eating healthy. When I can't take it anymore, Scooter's is a great place to overload on a cheeseburger, onion rings, and a shake. ALL THREE AT THE SAME TIME. If I had to prioritize them in deliciousness, I'd pick first the onion rings, then the shake, then the cheeseburger. That said, they are all good, and the prioritization required some tough decision-making on my part. randomseattle.com

Scooter's has good, quality burgers, fries and onion rings--even a few veggie (but not vegan) options. It's served fast and it's nice that they have a parking lot, in case you want to grab a quick bite on your drive home from work. I recommend their blue cheese burger and guacamole burger. I won't lie--they're not my favorite, but they're a pretty solid offering and I find them convenient when the mood for fried ground beef strikes.

Tasty burgers and fries. Small place, not great for seating, just a grab and go place I checked not good for kids, because of the seating situation indoors, food would be fine for kids, but definitely not the seating area.

Solid little burger joint. Friendly staff. Burger and fries were good and came out fast. Love that they offer mini size shakes. I always crave a shake with my burger and fries but my waistline doesn't appreciate it when I add a large shake, especially when I've already ordered the bleu cheese burger with bacon!

My husband and I found Scooter's while looking for a different burger joint to try out. I was glad I 'Yelped' ahead to get a feel of what items would be offered as well as to discover they only took cash. One star ding for that since it is a pain (who carries cash around anymore?) They have their own parking lot which is great since Ballard is always a pain to find (and pay) for parking on the street. The place was pretty empty when we came in for dinner and the food was made fresh after we paid. The burger was delish although I had it sans "special sauce" as I am typically picky but it didn't make the burger dry or bland without it. My husband wanted a refill on his soda and ended up having to do it himself since the waitress/cashier disappeared and didn't come back. Not sure where she went but was a bit off since they do all the refills for you.

Scooters Rocks!!! I have been coming here for years. The burgers are great, the fries outstanding, and the onion rings, sublime. Much better than the pretencious Red Mill.

My husband and I have eaten here twice now and I must say, these are the best burgers in town! The bacon cheeseburger is so tasty and has the perfect combination of ingredients. My husband had chicken sandwich which is the most moist and tender chicken sandwich he has ever had. He let me taste it and I'm having one on our next visit. The girls that work there are so polite and always smiling. They are very helpful and accommodating with no negativity. If you haven't tried their burgers, you better! Absolutely awesome!!!

Ok, so it's called Scooter's Burgers and I've been here three times but personally have not gotten a burger. I eat meat but red meat isn't always my fav. But I have gotten fish and chips and the veggie burger. Both were very tasty and the fries- oh my god- the fries. I ate and embarrassingly large amount of fries. When my bro was in town he did get a burger and when he came back into town he had another. So I can say second hand that the burgers appear to be as good as the fish and chips and veggie burgers. Once, although it may be twice soon, I got a milk shake and man was that a good milkshake. Just a heads up, as a very disgruntled customer had a problem with when I was there, their chocolate shakes are vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup. I had a chocolate shake and loved it but this other customer didn't even buy it because of that reason. So they do not carry chocolate ice-cream just fyi. You will have to wait a little while for your food, busy or not, but it's all freshly made so keep that in mind.

Inexpensive and yummy. Fast food but the meat tasted really good with that little bit of char on the outside but a perfectly cooked inside. For $5 you can't go wrong.

The food is decent, the fried mushrooms are tasty. The customer service is something left to be desired. I don't feel like being overly nice to a 14 year old kid who doesn't feel like he needs to be nice/ cordial to work in a burger establishment. Won't be going back to here for awhile.

Alright guys, I'm bumping it up. It's getting crazy here. Ok, so the first review was pretty straightforward, mediocre food gets the mediocre rating. Decided to try again yesterday and had a much more positive experience. They had some great folks working there, nice and outgoing. They chatted me up and the food I got was hot and fresh. This is huge for me. The onion rings this time were much better than last time. Instead of being hard and cutting my mouth, they were hot and greasy, and pretty delicious actually. They still seem of the pre-made variety, but those can still be good if you get em at the optimal time. I ordered the double bacon cheeseburger again, but forgo'd the lettuce and whatnot in favor of just the onion and sauce toppings. This vastly improved the burger as well. Since those other toppings I felt were a large part of the problem in my first experience. The patties were, once again, hot and fresh. This is a large step up from my lackluster patties that I had last time. They are still thin patties though, so keep that in mind. So, in conclusion, this place is just a little burger dive, nothing special. But, if you play your cards right (get whatever A-team was working), you'll get a satisfactory burger dive instead of another mediocre serving of nonsense. I'll continue to attend in the future to check what kind of consistency I can get.

Nothing too special - but certainly a good burger. Very good onion rings - wish they gave yo more. Don't care for the triangle/cone shaped bags for the fries/onion rings - they don't work well, fries falling all over the place. The shake was ok - nothing special, have had better at plenty of places - but they do have a good selection of flavors. The best thing about this place is it's 100 times better than that other crappy place that Seattle folks call the best burger - I won't even mention the name, but they suck!

Great burger and I love the fries. Don't think about mcds or Burger King. These guys are quick, price is right and you actually get beef. Plus they have other types or sandwiches.

In between estate sales w/ Lori M and Evan M, we got the hungries. Blame it on the person AT the estate sale eating a burger, which led to receiving a recommendation to try this place. They do have a parking lot, but we parked on the street. It's very tiny, Just a counter that seats maybe 6 people and a 2 top. Outside are a couple picnic tables but the weather was poor. The menu has burgers, sandwiches, fries, onion rings, and SHAKES. We wound up ordering from items featured on posted signs by their register. Two guacamole burgers w/ the chipotle mayo on the side, large fries, and a raspberry milkshake (plus 2 waters). The food came out quickly and we inhaled everything...then ordered a second, mini shake with pineapple which was AWESOME. So let me tell you about the milk shake mini, it's under $2, and it's the perfect size. I can totally come here with ten bucks and try five flavors, no problem. I kind of want to go tomorrow. Btw, the restroom is outside and around the corner of the building.

OK burger, but they aren't too cheep and not distinguished from any ole fast food joint. Red Mill or 5 guys will give u a better burger for about the same price.

I stopped at Scooters on Friday 9/26/14. Ordered 1 large, 1 small cheesburger, one small fry. I gave the clerk my Visa card. She said "do you want a receipt", I said no. She said the charge was $16.44. As I waited for my order, I was wondering why it cost so much. She said it was about $13.44. I have checked my Visa statement. She overcharged us. I think whomever this girl is should be questioned. I think she is adding tips to people's Visa Cards.

Phenomenal, I've been here about three times now and it's about time I write a review. This place is consistent, quality burgers and fries. If your craving a charbroiled real BBQ hamburger check these guys out. Fresh ingredients, actual yummy fast food!

  • Superman H.

This place is gross. All the ingredients to a burger are frozen, precooked or canned. They slap a thing together and I feel pushed out the door. There's no dishes or tables. Probably because the 'dining area' is filthy and uncared for. Careless teens work there, I should've gone to Wendy's for less money and the same guilty tummy ache.

  • Diego S.

I am a great fan of this place - I love the bacon cheese burger, fries, and a root beer! That's my regular! The bacon is so crisp, and the burger is perfectly cooked every time! I love this neighborhood burger joint, it reminds me of the place I worked when I moved to Seattle!

    (4)
  • Deborah J.

You got me yesterday when Red Mill's line was out the door and around the block. I remembered YOU! Your place is small but that's okay, you had no line and we were ordering to go. Bacon Burger "get in muh belly" and you did just that. Prices are decent, burgers are good--can't speak for anything else on the menu other than their yummy shakes.

    (4)
  • Andy H.

I like this place a lot. It really doesn't get any better. They use good ingredients and the menu is straight forward. It's a no nonsense burger joint staffed by nice kids who know what they're doing. I just hope the owners aren't Republicans because I really want to be able to keep going there.

  • Luke W.

Great burgers at good prices. Totally local and without pretension. It might look a little rough from the outside, and even the inside :), but don't worry. You can order grilled sourdough instead of a bun, and I recommend it. Will keep going back here instead of the other 'newer' joints popping up in Ballard.

    (4)
  • Ed M.

3 stars seems a bit high, but 2 a bit low. The most clear issue with the burger is the thin veneer of beef they use - that's the whole point of a burger, isn't it? The quality of the ingredients was good for a small burger shack. The onions were crisp, tomato's fresh and the bun had a good taste. I just wish I got more than a good veggie burger with a thin slice of meat.

    (3)
  • Chris C.

This place is pretty simple, but what it does, it does well. The burgers are huge, which I guess make sense looking at the price. But the toppings seemed very fresh, and everything is made with care. The best thing going for Scooters is the milkshakes, especially peanut butter! I will definitely be back here for more.

Sooo much better than any chain burger joint. I miss living nearby and being able to grab a bag full of irresistibly drippy, messy burger and fries whenever I was feeling too healthy after a vigorous hour at the gym. And if I was feeling particularly virtuous, a shake. Yum. The restaurant itself is not the place to consume your booty--it's cramped and the tables never seem quite clean. The picnic tables outside are okay, though not terribly inviting, either. At least if you drip mayonnaise all over the ground, you won't have to get out the mop. Still, I preferred to smuggle mine home. Miss ya, Scooter's!

  • Ponarett X.

Scooter's is a small, unpretentious burger place. I was surprised at the variety that they offer; it made my decision difficult. The first time I went in I went with the bacon cheeseburger combo and substituted my drink for a rootbear milkshake. The burger was HUGE! One burger is pretty much a meal in itself. The bacon on it was nice and thick...just the way I like it. The scooter sauce was probably some kind of mayo/ketchup based mixture and it was delicious! Oh, how I love my sauces :) The fries were nothing spectacular...they reminded me of Ivar's fries...good but not amazing. The shake was good; again, nothing spectacular. I noticed that they offer a mini size shake which would be the perfect size for me. This place is definitely a solid burger place. p.s. they take cards now.

Looks like a trailer park ratshack from outside but a real gem for quality burgers. I think it's like Ballard's In'n'Out, judging by the loyalty of customers I saw dropping in or picking up orders dialed in. I had the chicken sandwich and it was juicy and generously sized. Their board indicates their beef is organic and local, too, so I'd like to try their main burger next time.

GREAT shakes. Variety of fried sides (if you enjoy a fried mushroom) burgers are worth a try Service is pretty good. Wouldn't go out of your way but hey, if your driving by & hungry stop in and grab a Burger & Shake!

Screams, I'm not a pretentious, yuppie filled hang out joint with crazy décor and shiny bling. It does subtlety whisper into your ear, "Hey, yeah you. I know you want a good burger, so park your car, come in, choose a delicious menu item, and prepare for a good burger." See, how hard was that, in a city filled with great food choices, it's hard to sometimes notice the local places, which add flavor and complexity to each neighborhood. Okay, the food. The burger here is well balanced. Let's examine the Bacon Cheeseburger. You have meat, cheese, bacon pieces, a nice layer lettuce, tomato, sauce, and optional onion. The bun, is heated nicely, and holds well, with all the potential vegetable liquids overflow. The meat has a good flavor, especially with the crunchy onion. They make it right there for you, like any good place, no heat lamps, just made to order goodness. Speaking of onion, they have onion rings. They are super crunchy, with a batter which falls apart in a good well-cooked way. Good portion for the price. If you are looking for a good value, this should be on your list. I think with Red Mill being just a 5 minute drive, I have overlooked the other local flair, and this place is what makes Ballard just another great place to go eat. It's not the polished burgers of Red Mill fame, and may be out of the way, but if you take a minute to make your way to Ballard, you will be rewarded with a good tasting, working man's burger.

Can't give a thumbs-up to a burger joint that doesn't use real cheese. When I walked in after reading all these glowing reviews and saw a stack of synthetic singles sagging in their wax paper sheets, my heart dropped into the corner of my gut where all the other slices of plastic, wannabe cheese I ever ate are still waiting to be digested. After asking if they had any of the good stuff laying around, I went for the regular hamburger, fries, and a sprite. Fries were good, burger was okay, price was right, and the service was excellent (hang in there, new kid, that register will roll over and play dead before you know it). Two stars may seem a little brutal, but American cheese is a crime. Get some Tillamook cheddar in there, and I'll add two more stars in a hurry.

Scooter's does a good job of providing tasty fast food that isn't from a multinational chain. The meat is NOT organic nor local, as another reviewer thought (it's "choice" and from Ohio) but it's good. The fries appear to be fresh-cut, whether there or not I'm not sure. The bacon was a bit crispy for my taste but no biggie. I like their sauce, I love their shakes, the onion rings and deep fried mushrooms are really good. You can get a "value meal" for less than most you could get at fast food chains and it's way better. They do a good veggie burger, too. They even toast their buns (which ARE made locally) and one does that anymore. I dig Scooters!

    (4)
  • David B.

Had regular cheeseburger here. It was large in circumference, came with "scooter sauce" which is like thousand island, lettuce, pickles, and I was offered onion, which I accepted. Overall taste reminds me of a jumbo jack, more mayo than the mustardy sonic that I love. Fries here are the 1/4 straight cut variety and onion rings are crunchy. Shakes come in a wide selection. 3stars marks a repeatable lunch spot.

I've been eating at Scooter's for years. One of my favorite garden burgers in Seattle. They are always great for a quick take out meal when you are in a hurry & want something way better than fast food. They always have nice, friendly high-school aged workers who seem to have a positive, cheery attitude & are friendly. Hopefully this means the owners treat them well. My only complaint which is almost not worth mentioning but scares the crap out of me every time I go there is that the doors slam really loud if you don't help them close. Their hydraulic system must not work or something but every time I walk in there & forget...wham...the door slams behind me. If that's their worst...I'll take it!

This classic burger joint is the stop to cure that insatiable craving. When we first arrived in Seattle, Scooters was the first burger we had and we fell in love with it. Since then we've tried a number of burger places, even Red Mill which was featured on "Man vs Food" and Scooters still beats them all in our opinion. The single burger is not excessively beefy if you enjoy all the other parts of a burger. However if you're the type that really enjoys the beefy burgers order the double. It's sure to please. My wife loves the blue cheese, bacon burger. It's pretty good. I still haven't found my favorite. They also have a variety of shakes from butterfinger to classic strawberry, as well as some killer fish n chips! This place is small, but off the hook!

  • Skyler D.

This is my *go to* burger joint in Ballard. LOVE them. Been eating here for many years. It's like a "along the highway burger stand with specialty shakes that you just have to stop at even if your not hungry" kind of place. Super burgers, super onion rings, super shakes and they have stuff like fish and chips. The staff is great, too. Oh, and they are quick enough for folks who only have a 30 minute lunch break!

    (5)
  • Nolan H.

These are just some good old fashioned burgers. Nothing fancy, but it doesn't really need to be! I enjoyed my double-bacon thoroughly. The fries were lacking salt and didn't really do the job for me. Overall, I would totally go back for the burgers, the attractive staff, and hopefully saltier fries!

    (3)
  • Jeff B.

This is a decent place and probably worth 4 stars but the two or three times I have eaten the fish n chips which are very good for being frozen and not fresh they have been extremely small portions. The fries and burgers have always been very good and the shakes are very popular. Nice staff, nice little parking lot and sometimes it is nice to hit the QFC next door and grab some grub for the trip home.

If I feel like a burger while in Ballard I would choose the Dock Street Burger at Bad Albert's but if I don't want sit-down, Scooter's is the place. All you new Ballardites probably don't know that this takeout joint used to be a Dairy Queen way back when. It was THE place for Dilly Bars and Green River floats but I am happy that this space now delivers excellent burgers, sandwiches and fries! I love the fact that avocados are an optional topping to any sandwich here! Yummy for the tummy! I do miss the butterscotch Dilly Bars though. :-(

I suffer from dain bramage...thought I wrote a review of this place; but, now I could not find it. Oh well. Here goes. There are several good burger places in Ballard. I think this one and Red Mill are the top two. Once, in dain bramage mode, I ordered mushroom burger by mistake. Best mistake of my life. They absolutely kill the competition with exception of 5 Guys. (Note: 5 Guys is not in Ballard:)) Usually come here once or twice a month. Have the grilled turkey, mushroom and Swiss with onions. In my not so humble opinion, just GREAT. Fantastic shakes; but, I must not drink them as I really like them. They are just like the ones I had as child/teenager. Place is crowded during lunch times. Staff seems to move things quickly with a minimum of fuss. You may eat outside at the picnic tables or take food with you. Just great sandwiches. If you need ambiance and a waiter, go to Bellevue.

It was one of those evenings when neither of us wanted to cook, yet it was unclear what we would do for dinner; we ended up here. I had a cheeseburger, fries, and a chocolate shake. The burger was O.K. and only O.K. because it had a thin and almost tasteless patty. The fries where good after I added salt to them, and the shake was average but way better than McD's or one of the other Burger-Factories. The meal wasn't exceptional, but it did fill up my empty dysfunctional belly, and at the time that was all I was really after. There is good parking here, but dining-in isn't a super comfortable or spacious experience; I suggest eating in the car or somewhere near by.

Great onion rings! I like the burgers OK-I think it's a bit pricey, actually, but I return again and again, suckered in for those sweet and crisp onion rings. Service is fair, depending on the time of day, really. I've never gotten one of their shakes, so I can't speak on those.

"Scooters, I been served Red Mill Burgers: I knew Red Mill; Red Mill was a friend of mine. Scooters, you're no Red Mill." Poor Scooter's Burgers, forever doomed to live in the shadow of Red Mill. And to be fair, Scooter's Burgers aren't Red Mill Burgers. But, that's not entirely a bad thing. My wife and I are staying with a friend in Ballard for a few days before moving into our new apartment. So, when I got hungry around noon (I've heard this period called "lunch time"), I wandered down the block to Scooters. Mainly because it was close and I am lazy. Their burger wasn't the best I'd ever had, but it was pretty solid. Probably my biggest complaint was that the bun seemed dry and started falling apart almost immediately. But the other ingredients were doing their part admirably. The shake was a real stand out though. I had chocolate, because you need to start with the basics before exploring into the more exotic flavors. And, with a sign boasting 23 flavors, there's a lot to explore. Even if I wasn't hungry, I'd think about stopping by just for the shake alone. If I had one complaint, it would be the price. I got a double cheese burger, small fries and regular shake and the whole thing came to nearly $10 which seemed a little excessive for a burger joint... but when I told my wife about it, she seemed nonplus. So, maybe I'm not just lazy... I'm a cheapskate too.

I work right across the street and come here for dinner as much as possible. The girls that work there are all smiles and so pleasant to greet. I like that most of their trash is compost-able! At first I just got the regular burger, then made my way up to the DELICIOUS Guacamole Cheeseburger. That right there makes my night. And those Onion Rings! So crisp and delicious! I also love that they have ranch (for my fries). I tell everyone about the burgers, especially my co-workers. I've even got their number saved in my address book for pick-ups. Keep rocking those burgers, Scooter's!

Although I am a frequent diner here, I have never had one of their burgers. I usally enjoy their turkey, swiss, mushroom and onion sandwich with a root beer milk shake. Today I misspoke and ordered a mushroom and swiss burger with onions. Best mistake I have made in quite some time. Burger was thick, juicy and full of flavor. Grilled onions and mushrooms were equally good. Milk shake was good as usual. Hint: for a GREAT milk shake have the waitress make it. The owner is sparing on the flavoring:). All in all a really great burger experience. Will still continue to have the turkey, mushroom, swiss and onion sandwich.

Awesome onion rings. Decent fries (huge portion). Good shakes, notably the blackberry. The burger - well, a huge bun with lots of condiments, and buried in there were 2 dinky, burnt, Dicks' - style patties. Very sad. Big parking lot, so if you enjoy parking this is a pleasure. So - Scooter's is good for everything except what you go there for.

Comfort food Utopia. Yeah. Scooter's is the place to go when you're feeling down. Get into a fight with your S.O.? Go to Scooter's and get a milkshake. Job gotcha down? Get a big ol' burger with bacon n cheese. Missing your Mom who lives on the East Coast? Grab a grilled cheese. Ah yeah. I feel the grease on my chin and I know everything is gonna be OK... PS - They have little tiny milkshakes for when you're feeling only kinda naughty!

I have eaten at this place a couple times as I live right across the street. I've only ever had the burgers and fries, both are pretty solid. I wouldn't say they cook the burgers perfectly or have great seasoning, it's just quality food for the price. It would be nice if they had some more varieties, but that's my only real gripe. I had a shake once, it was okay.

Best burgers in Ballard. The Red Mill has been my burger of choice for the last few months. Now I have a new spot to add in to the rotation. The burger was great. Nice size and well seasoned. The fries were also pretty good. Overall my meal was great, it's just not quite as good as Red Mill. However, since the place is closer and isn't as crowded I have a feeling I may wind up there more than Red Mill. Bottom Line - Great burgers and a more than adequate substitute for Red Mill.

This is good Plan C place if your favorite sushi joint (across the street) is closed. We stopped in for some rings and shakes. Their menu is standard - nothing unusual or particularly intriguing. I had a chocolate, peanut-butter, malt shake. Yummy. The service was a bit awkward and slow. The cashier stopped to make my order and didn't even take my friends' orders until after he was done making mine - weird. The one thing that was good about this place was the small sized shakes, which are perfect to hit that spot or feed your devil child. Yeah...I would go there again.

  • Brooke S.

I think Scooters should get bigger cups for their milkshakes. I down the one size they have in about five minutes. But maybe that's my own issue. They should also think about taking cards. The burgers are decent. Not highest on my list, but decent price, and also really close to my house so I go there. Oh yeah and I would get it to-go, there's not much seating and it's really not all that pleasant being small and in a parking lot. Maybe eat at the locks. Ooh! That's a good idea.

There was one weekend I was craving Red Mill the ENTIRE weekend. Finally Monday rolled around and I figured I needed to satisfy my craving. I shot up to the closest one on Phinney and...well wouldn't you know it, but Red Mill is closed on Monday's?! After a brief stop for a haircut at Rudy's, a wonderful girl by the name of Jodie(?) recommended Scooter's in Ballard. I was dying for a burger, so I figured I would check it out. Result: Pretty Darn Good! A fine substitute for Red Mill any day. The straws could stand to be a wee bit stronger for sucking up that wonderful milkshake, though!

Der, her... it's a burger. It's not Red Mill, but it's also not Burger King. The best thing about the place is the name. Come on, SCOOTER'S?!? Sit out side, and get stung by bees. Good luck.

Okay so as fast food goes Scooter's is pretty good. They have a top secret Scooter sauce aka relish, mayo, ketchup a standard at any burger joint. These are very large burgers, I got the gardenburger meal and could not even finish it. I ended up throwing most of it away. They are made fast and fresh well as fresh as any prefrozen patty could be. Great selection, next time I will try the turkey avocado melt. or the BLAT bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado. My milkshake brings all the.........If I were a milkshake girl I am sure I could have found one here. There were all different flavors to choose from not just vanilla chocolate, strawberry. It doesn't really serve for dine-in purpose the space is small but if you are on the go and want a greasy delight than scoot to Scooters

Yummmmmyyy... Hamburgers... Milkshakes... and french fries OH MY!! I don't know what these guys do but their food is sooooo good! The burgers are huge and the fries are perfect - you get lots of those too. Everything is freshness to the tongue and they even let you put your own salt on the fries. If you love onions you should ask for your burger/sandwich to have onions on them (by request). I compare Scooters to Dicks or Kid valley in a way but 100 times better. The quality of food is yummers and the special scooter sauce is (Yup you guessed it) YUMMERS! You got to check this place out. They have fish, chicken, and burgers too. I sure am a fan (can you tell) I know you would become one too if you'd just check it out- what you waiting for??!

Been going here off and on for years. My burgers are always the same......large and greasy...LOVE 'EM! Root beer shakes are top notch, as well! Support the little guy, eat at Scooter's!

came here the other night with the wife.. the gals are super sweet and nice. the food was wonderful. they even have seating out side. the shakes are super thick and very taste..you can pretty much get any kinda burger how ever you want it..

Always good, basic burgers. Nothing fancy, but consistently yummy. Butterfinger milkshakes rule. Eat the burger there - it's warm, toasted bun, and wonderful.

  • Anna A.

Cash only. Burgers are big and OK. Fries are not the best I've had. Shakes are the best thing in here! Go figure. I was seriously hangover so anything pretty much would have been OK but it didn't quite cut it. I might go back . Ill propably go back. maybe

I wish I never went here. I can't imagine the calories. I know this sounds sad, but when I need a greasy burger fix, I get the junior cheese burger (smaller) with grilled onions, and a mini shake. It's smaller portions, so less calories? Well, that's what I am telling myself, anyway, and it leaves me stuffed for hours!!

  • Katherine T.

I tend to go here pretty often. Its nice to be able to call in a order (sorry, Red Mill) and get it really quickly. I like there sauce they use, some mayo/thousand island/relish combo. Burgers are always cooked though, never burnt and really aren't all that greasy on the burger scale. Good pickles too! Good selection of shakes! I hope they don't tear this down for more condos!

  • Mac J.

I used to stack cheese here. Need a good shake? 2 scoops strawberry, 1 scoop blackberry, mix that $&!# up and you got yourself "the berry bomb!"

I was craving a chocolate milkshake this past weekend and I decided to give Scooter's a shot since it received good milkshake reviews but, boy, was I let down. I'm still in search of the best Seattle milkshake.

  • Kui S.

Hmmm. Had a mushroom cheeseburger. It was "ok" but just. Their fries were... cardboard-ish to passable. Seemed like a bunch of people were ordering the fried mushrooms. Maybe I'll try those next time. Didn't try their shakes, but heard good things about them. I'm giving them three stars because they were "ok", but maybe three is too many. Red Mill was a bit better. Definitely nothing fancy here. A step above Dick's, but no better than Ballard Bro's Burgers (which used to be hella better than it is since their move). OK if your in a pinch. Otherwise pop on over to Ballard Market and buy your own goods to make a burger at home.

  • Kira T.

Yep - this is the real deal. Yummy, greasy, HUGE burgers, cooked and served up by giggling teenaged girls, and it's NOT a chain (at least so far as I know).

  • Reginald C.

This burger joint has seating for maybe 10 people along the windows inside, and a few picnic tables outside the door. This is perfectly acceptable, as the place almost never has more than three or four people eating inside at any given time; take-out is the preferred method here. Personally, I usually can't wait to get home to start eating my food-- their special burger spices and old-fashioned cooking style make for probably the best burgers in town. My only gripe is with the 16-oz styrofoam cups they use for drinks. Just not enough liquid to wash down a big burger and fries, especially when the cup is 3/4 full of ice. This is a very minor point of complaint, however.

  • Wesley B.

This and redmill i think are the best burgers in the area. I've had the double bacon burger and the pesto chicken and they both were up to par. The onion rings are also excellent not to much batter but just enough to get a good crunch and flavor. This place def deserves 4 to 5 stars.

    (4)
  • Jerry L.

Burgers are quick and tasty. I'm a big fan of their onion rings. :) The milk shakes are also yummy. Parking lot in the back. Just a nice, casual place to grab a burger!

  • Sean M.

This is my first Yelp review, so take it easy on me. Oh, Scooter's - a wonderful place to get a burger, onion rings, and a tasty shake. The place is tiny and can get busy at times but it is well worth the taste. I, personally, think they make some of the best burgers in Seattle and, without a doubt, the best onion rings. The prices are a bit on the high side but within reason compared to other Seattle burger joints. I find the best value to be the Jr. Cheese Burger and a side of O Rings. As I already mentioned - the shakes are very good but being that I'm not really a shake connoisseur I won't speak definitively on the subject. I would've rated this 5 stars had I been reviewing this a year ago but I've noticed that with a change in staff - I've noticed a difference in the quality of burgers and O rings (and fries). Not to say they are bad but not as good as it once was. I recommend checking it out when you're in a mood for a burger. Give Red Mill a break for a change and try out Scooter's in Ballard - you won't be disappointed.

Now these people know how to make a great burger. If you're looking for a place to fall in love with burgers all over again this is the place. The staff is very friendly and nice and the food is top notch.

  • Anna M.

Sorry Scooter's, Zak's has you beat. Your patties are thin, your buns get soggy, your fries are floppy and your counter staff leaves a lot to be desired in terms of detail management and accountability. I'm all for supporting small and locally owned businesses, but I just can't choose Scooter's anymore when Zak's is just a few blocks further away -- with food that's twice as good at just about the same price.

Somewhat inebriated after a few beers at the Viking and still refusing to order the Sloppy Sven (though someday *SOMEDAY* I will do it!), we wandered down the street to Scooter's. It was my first time here, because not only do I try to stay away from "junk food" (oh, how I love thee), I am a fan of King's burgers. Anyhow, I heard that their veggie burgers were good and thought that might be a 'healthy' alternative. HAHA! I know, I know. The veggie burger came loaded with american cheese and dripping with mayo, with the requisite tomato, lettuce and onion additions. Despite the fact it was dressed up in cheese and mayo, it was still quite bland. I know you are saying "uh, it's a veggieburger, what did you expect?!" - but I have had some pretty tasty veggie burgers, crazy, I know. This just didn't fulfill my needs. Next time perhaps I'll get a regular burger and see what this greasy hype is all about. Oh yeah, and the fries were a little lacking. Hook me up with some salt, people!

The only advantage Red Mill has, more indoor seating. Otherwise, you just gotta forget all you know and become a Scooter's fanatic. The onion rings sometimes haunt my dreams.

If you don't have the time for to go to Red Mill, this is the place for burgers in ballard. Fast, cheap, cooked to order burgers... milkshakes, fried mushrooms, onion rings.... I loves it! The bacon blue cheese burger is a favorite of my better half, and she knows her some burgers. Ask for grilled onions... it makes a world of difference!!

    (4)
  • Krisanne C.

A hidden gem in Ballard. This place has delicious, fresh-made burgers that rival the local favorites like Red Mill. Not much indoor seating; this is primarily a take-away joint.

    (4)
  • Dawna L.

Wanting to go to Red Mill by the Locks, but not wanting to wait in the long line through the door to eat, we headed over to Scooter's which we had tried when we first moved to Ballard. It was well worth the short detour, no long line, fast service, good food, great shakes (orange-sicle and raspberry) and while eating realized we might actually like it better than Red Mill. Give it a chance. Not too greasy, great sauce, no crowds, easy parking. We will be back.

Although Red Mill is a close second-placer, Scooter's is definitely my favorite burger shop in Seattle. Are the burgers at Red Mill technically superior? Yes - they're seasoned and cooked better. However, Scooter's cooks a very good burger and their fries are better. Does Red Mill use higher quality ingredients, like lettuce that isn't shredded and red onions? Yes; however Scooter's ingredients are still pretty good and fresh. So - although Red Mill has a technically better burger, why do I like Scooter's more? 1) Scooter's isn't over-hyped. Yes, Red Mill does serve a good burger; however that doesn't mean it's worth waiting 30-45 minutes for a meal on a busy day. 2) The service at Scooter's is top-notch. A few months ago, I went there after not showing up for years. They still remembered my name. Additionally, they appear to care for the customer without being saccharine. 3) They're open on Mondays. :-) All that having been said, I still like both places - just this one a bit better.

  • Garrett S.

I should have known from the emptiness of the place that this place was not bright spot in the burger kingdom. As soon as I walked in I noticed the beef is from Iowa (why not Washington or Oregon grass fed cows). Consequently, I decided to only order fries and a chocolate malt. The malt was very small but reasonably tasty for $2.74. The fries were already prepared sittng in a bin so the cook grabbed a bunch with his hands and plopped them into a deep fryer and re-cooked them (yikes)! Needless to stay they were greasy and had absolutely no flavor. I will NEVER go there again.

Ok. I'm giving Scooter's 2 stars, but I will be going back. It's not that it's bad, it's just nothing special with so much competition out there that's just plain better. For me it's so convenient to home that it's hard to turn down if I need something quick within walking distance First the good: The place is a classic counter-burger joint, as others have said. The ingredients are fresh and sauces taste good. The fries are fresh and tasty and it's fast and cheap. Sure as hell it's about 10 hundred bajillion times better than any fast food chain. No way I'm going to give my money to a fast food chain as long as Scooter's is around. The main problem, and the reason for the 2 stars is the patties themselves. They're barely thicker than a piece of box cardboard. As a result you really only taste the buns, sauce, lettuce, tomato, and onions (or whatever else you've topped it with). I'd hope to taste more of the burger. As a result it just can't compete with some of the better burger spots around here. Redmill comes to mind as a good example of a better product at similar prices. So if you're looking for a world class burger, Scooter's ain't it. But if you're nearby and looking for something quick and cheap and reasonably tasty, if you don't mind the lack of grilled meat flavor It's worth a stop by. Just don't expect a religious experience.

I just moved to ballard, and this a change. I'll definitely be going back to Scooter's and so far it will be my backup lazy-food place. Pros: Burgers are made fresh, you can see the kitchen so you know it's done right. Onion rings are crispy Shakes are thick and delicious Mushroom burger came with enough mushrooms to be satisfying. Fries are average size, not micro-shoestrings or chunky steak-fries. Cons: A little expensive for a hole-in-the-wall burger place, but not bad. Fries aren't salted. Shakes are a little too thick. The oreo shake had lots of cookie pieces at the bottom that required a spoon. They only accept cash (and I think debit now) You may think "Oh, that's a lot of Cons, how can you give it 4 stars?" I say they do burgers well, and that's all they claim. If you're in ballard, get a burger here. You will enjoy it.

Why, oh why, does Ballard have such great food? It's so stinkin' hard to get to. Case in point: Scooter's Burgers. One of my favorite things about Scooter's are the little baby shakes, I'm guessing 4-6 ounces, just a tiny little indiscretion one doesn't have to feel too guilty about. While you can get a really small shake, the burgers are HUGE. They can easily be split with another person. They will make them just the way you want 'em. I like the cheeseburger minus the cheese. Weird. They don't have a hamburger combo. Additionally, they make it easy to size-up from fries to onion rings or mushrooms (for a dollar). If I lived in or around Ballard I'd eat here all the time.

  • Ben D.

Inspired by Jeanny M., we checked this place out last night hoping to indulge our burger cravings. I got the combo #4 (veggie burger, small fries, and a drink for something like 8 bucks) and upgraded to a milkshake for a dollar or so extra. The burger was HUGE and I like that they put cheese on 'em by default. Pretty tasty overall. They captured the fast food experience with a veggie patty, which can be hard to accomplish. The fries were crispy and, though not salty, came with little salt packages which, when applied, left these fries rivaling any other I've had in Seattle. About these shakes. They kind of just taste like chunks of X mixed into ice cream where X = peanut butter, oreos, pineapple or many other delicious- sounding atypical flavors. I had a rough time sucking chunks of peanut butter through my straw, but kinda of loved trying to do so. My partner's Oreo shake was also delicious, although I imagine if I had sucked too hard and not been paying attention, I might have choked on a cookie chunk. I consider this a good thing. Overall, I liked Scooter's a lot. I wouldn't go there planning to eat in the shop, as it's tiny and you'd basically have the employees and any customer looking at the menu board peering over your shoulder. However, for a reasonably priced and very large meal on the run, definitely a good choice. Piecing a meal together might get a bit pricy for what you get, but if you stick with one of the combos, you'll keep the price in check. Especially if you want a shake.

The last thing I want to do is pay to be treated with attitude and indifference. I went to Scooter's on 5/17/11. It was 8:40 p.m. and the young lady working the grill says loudly to the cashier "I so totally don't want to be here right now." That was my omen to leave. Typically enjoying Scooters because I go there frequently...I mistakenly stayed. They have brown paper bags that they put the to-go orders in. The bag destined for my food fell on the floor twice! I'm looking right at the young lady handling the grill in disbelief. Kind of gross. This young lady proceeds to attend to the industrial rugs that cover the kitchen/grill area, roll them up, pick them up, and take them to another location. THEN she goes back to the grill/prep area, picks up a bun and starts to prepare the food WITHOUT washing her hands!!!!!! I was mortified. I asked her directly "Are you going to wash your hands before you touch the food again?" She rolled her eyes at me, muttered comments to her coworkers all the way back to the sink. She came back out and picked up the same bun! I asked her "Are you going to use the same bun? I think I need a fresh one since you washed her hands." Rudely she responded "I didn't touch the rug before I touched the bun." I was shocked by her ugly response and her inability to provide customer service. I am still appalled as I write this at the social skills of the young ladies working at the restaurant. If you don't want to work, there are plenty of others willing to do so in these economic times. The last thing I want at the end of the day is to deal with snotty teenagers who don't know about customer service. Hope this information is helpful to the owner, Scott.

The good: They have peanutbutter shakes! Fries are crispy and fresh and priced right. Toppings are fresh too. The bad: They don't salt their fries, so you have to salt them yourself and they never taste as good that way. The burger patty was thin, chewy, and dry. The burgers were expensive too. The fish and chips were breaded in this unsalted, too-crunchy meally bread crumbs. They were too crunchy. Sad, because the fish was good. I'd go back for fries and salt them fast. I've had better burgers and, even though they have good flavors, I've had better shakes too.

  • Julie K.

I assumed this was just a burger joint and was pleasantly surprised at the variety on the menu - fish and chips, grilled cheese, pesto chicken, veggie burgers. The grilled turkey and swiss on sourdough is delicious. And did I mention the great milkshakes? Friendly and competent staff too. Update: Just have to say again how impressed I've been with the counter staff. They all seem to be high school kids, but they're invariably friendly and efficient, and I've seen them deal with difficult people with grace. Whoever is doing the hiring is doing a great job.

This is a great, local burger. I've never been disappointed here. The patty is thin, but wide. The double seems a little big as a result, but you won't here me complain about it.

  • Kristi F.

My friend took me here, saying it was the best burger/fries for under $10 bucks in the city and she'll come all the way from Shoreline just to eat here. It was good. I had a special burger-a guacamole burger with chipoltle mayo. Lots of lettuce, tomatoes, and onions just like I like. The bun wasn't soggy and there was lots of sauce. The fries were crunchy and golden and delicious. Under $8, pretty darn good. Cash only. They charge for ranch dressing which they give to you in a little plastic cup, even if you are eating in. Boo. Also, they give you ketchup in little packets, which takes about a half an hour to squeeze out enough ketchup to eat with your fries.

I'm a really big fan of locally-owned, independent burger places, and Ballard is chock-full of 'em. I gotta say that although I've probably rated the other independent burger places in the neighborhood four stars, that Scooter's is the best. We stopped by for lunch in the late afternoon so we were able to get a strategic seat in the small dining room. It was pretty busy for how late in the day it was. I ordered a hamburger (which they called a cheeseburger minus cheese...kinda funny). It was averagely good and by that I mean it was much, much better than say, McDonald's but much the same as many other independent burger places. The thing that makes Scooter's a high four in my book are the shakes and the fried sides. We got a raspberry shake. It was actually perfect. We also got some mushrooms and onion rings. Will we be back? Absolutely!

(4.5 stars). On food alone, this is a 5-star joint. On the type of place this place is trying to be: 5 stars. Awesome rarity in having perfect onion rings (crispy breading and onions juicy but cooked). Fresh veggies, well cooked patty, nice bacon...yum! Reason it gets the parenthetical 4.5 stars: raise the counters (which were clean but less than 3 ft high) and get some okay chairs (my back was killing me that day and this was worst case scenario, bad chairs) The inside could do a minor makeover for 4 grand and they need to do it. Food definitively better than Red Mill, and I like Red Mill. Awesome place for food, can't wait to go back!

  • Michelle B.

Best blackberry milkshakes in town! They also have malts...mmmm. Grab one before heading to the Ballard Locks. If you are all calorie counting you can get a mini-shake, but that's just sad.

  • Heather W.

Scooters is the original. I love the menu variety, particularly for vegetarians. (goes beyond a Boca patty with cheese...mushrooms, pesto, and other options) Great milkshakes. REALLY great milkshakes. I recommend stopping by on a warm spring/summer afternoon and sitting outside while you try and remember what Ballard used to look like before those hideous condo monstrosities were erected on 24th. It will be a sad day when they tear down Scooters to make room for more pseudo-crunchy new-to-Ballarders.

Scooter's wasn't anything super special, but I wasn't looking for super special. I was looking for something simple and good which is exactly what Scooter's delivered, and I didn't even have a burger! Grab my complete review here: deckonfood.blogspot.com/…

Fast and cheap, like your mom. I like Scooters, it falls somewhere between a fast food burger and a real juicy one, like from Redmill. At home we have this great little locally owned place that I spent many a skipped-class at in high school. Great burgers, Awesome shakes, and tartar that makes you want to kiss the cook. Scooters is pretty much the same exactly thing as the place at home, minus the nostalgia of being back home, and crinkle fries. I do miss the crinkle fries. Burgers, fries and shakes have never disappointed me. The owner (I assume) was there once when I've been there and he was so friendly and sociable. Plus one for that. Staff is usually friendly, and seems to make an effort to make conversation with the patrons. It's a bit old and dingy looking inside, but it still feels clean so that's A-Ok in my book. I'll definitely be back when I'm craving that "somewhere inbetween" burger, or a yummy shake! Cash only, or approved checks. Yay for being on the approved check list, I suck at carrying cash.

Since I moved to Seattle three years ago, I've been trying to find a place to..err...replace my favorite burger joint where I went to college, Cougar Country. Scooters is the best so far. The burger was tasty, and although the patty was a bit thin, that was easily excused by the Scooter's Sauce, some fry-sauce-esque concoction. Which isn't available as fry sauce so there must be a magic ingredient that's Top Secret. Fries were not crinkle-cut like CC, but were very crispy. Perhaps had been in the fryer an extra long time. But I'll take one that's too hard over a limp one any day (that's what she said). Minus one star for using styrofoam. Next time, I'll try a milkshake. I hear the coffee one is pretty money.

  • Kirsten A.

I have no idea how this place got 4 stars. Yuck. I have at least one cheeseburger a month and I can honestly say this is the lamest one ever. The burger patty is thin and fast food like. There is a ton of lettuce and some special sauce. The fries are bland. The onion rings we ok. Just ok. My burger companion and I decided we would have been better off just going to Burgermaster.

Scooter's rocks. Top-notch burgers for middling prices. Burgers here are first rate, alongside Zeke's and Ballard Brothers (but for a lot less cash), and comfortably a notch above Red Mill and Kidd Valley (tho the Kidd will hook you up for about the same money). I'm a particular fan of the fishburger, which is fresh cod. Slap some bacon on the fishburger for a seriously yummy variation on the bacon cheeseburger. The fries are only ok, but the mushrooms are great. The shakes are some of the best I've had in Seattle... the blackberry shake leaves me grinning with seeds in my teeth. Ambiance, tho, is seriously lacking, and the joint should be considered take-out-only on all but the most beautiful summer days. The minuscule lobby has doors at both ends, which means *all* of the warmth in the lobby is replaced by a blast of cold air every time anyone enters or exits. I'd give five stars if there was more seating, and it wasn't so bland inside. Otoh, I came for the burger. If I wanted first-rate attitude and a mediocre food, I'd head to Red Mill. If I had a passel of kids or cow-orkers with me and needed a place to talk, I'd head over to Ballard Brothers or Kidd Valley. If I'm by myself, Scooter's is the place.

I came here with a couple friends directly after returning from a 4-day wilderness camping trip. So we were hungry and kind of a mess. We all wanted a good hearty burger that we didn't need to dress up for and so we came here smelling of campfire. The veggie burger tasted fine. Not the best, but it was enough to satisfy the need for a hearty burger. It's a little prone to fall apart and I ended up eating it with a fork, but still fine. Fries and shakes are really great. The folks I went with were satisfied with their orders. Good, cheap, standard burger joint.

I love taking my daughter here on "my days," after her school. The employees are nice, the price reasonable and the wide variety of burgers and shakes don't disappoint! I know it's well liked as sometimes the line is long with starving (or not so starving) fans.

  • Chris L.

I love a good burger but at the same time am not a fan of fancy-schmancy burgers. I like them quick, messy, and wrapped in paper. Scooter's delivered a good, solid burger experience. I've had a couple of the cow burgers, a veggie burger, and one of their chicken offerings and all 4 hit the spot. They turn out a solid, respectable burger that doesn't pretend to have lofty ambitions. The veggie burger was definitely the weak spot but that seems to be the case for every burger joint I go to. Only so much you can do when you start with a frozen hockey puck. The shakes were tasty and just the right consistency and the onion rings were also good. Service was quick and cheery. Only downside is they don't take plastic which is a major inconvenience. Now that I've moved to Crown Hill/Ballard Scooter's will be taking over from Kidd Valley and Burger Master as my default burger joint. Here's how it stacks against the competition: 1) Red Mill 2) Scooters 3) Kidd Valley 4) Burger Master 5) Go hungry 6) Foraging for berries 7) Dicks 7.5) McDonalds

I only ever get one burger, and they've got it down well,. bacon cheeseburger. Yum. Fries are good too! Too close to my house though. I crave them too often. Lovely people and a small, independent business. Has the feel of an old Ballard. Not enough places to sit inside would be my only complaint. It's a tiny place!

    (4)
  • Sara H.

Scooters is, hands down, the best place for burgers in the city and the rings, fries and shakes are the stuff of legends. I had forgotten how much I LOVE this place after moving out of the city 3 years ago, until we stopped on our way out of town after a trip to the zoo yesterday. Red Mill's got nuthin' on Scooters (unless, of course, you ENJOY waiting in an obnoxiously long line that is). Don't expect to actually enjoy your meal here though as there is just a bar with a few stools and a few picnic tables outside. Instead, take it to go and enoy a picnic at the locks, shilshole or a nearby park instead. Oh, and they only take cash or check so don't even think about whipping out that debit card!

Going to keep this review brief: There's nothing fancy from this tiny hole-in-the-wall, just good straightforward burgers, more than sufficiently satisfies any burger craving you might have. Just watch your step on the uneven floors. (Hey! Its ambiance!)

I like my burgers like I like my men: well-done, inexpensive, messy and satisfying. (*rim shot!* Thanks folks, enjoy your meal and be sure to tip your waitstaff! I'll be here all week!) Oh, but seriously folks, I digress. . . This little place is close to work so when me and the co-workers get get a craving for red meat this is the place we go. I recommend calling ahead and getting your order to go since the seating here is limited and it cuts down on the actual wait time. The service, in my experience, is usually pretty quick and friendly. Though not the absolute best burger in town, it certainly does the job.

    Expensive, but unremarkable fast food.

Very good burgers in the traditional style. Single burgers seem light on meat so go with a double. Shakes are good. You can eat there but seating is on a ledge rather than at a table. Still a burger adventure worth having.

Eh, I'm tryin' to give them 3 1/2 stars. I used to work here, so maybe my opinion is somewhat biased, but hell, who's isn't? First off, the food here will fill you up. Unless you have a daily caloric intake of an Amish person or are on the verge of starving, a burger, small fries, and a soda or shake should fill you up, if not push you over the edge. The food is somewhere in the middle between corporate fast food and (insert super gourmet fancy burger joint here). Anyways, during the time of my employment, customers really dug the bacon cheese, onion rings, fried mushrooms, and for some reason unbeknownst to me, the blackberry shakes. As for me, put some bacon on that guacamole or blue cheese burger, fry me up some of those mushies, and let me try to vacuum up that thick vanilla malt. My biggest gripe with this place is the price, even though i never had to pay, but it's small and independent so what can one really expect? I just can't justify the $4 price tag for two slices of sourdough and 3 slices of american a.k.a the grilled cheese sandwich. Anyways if you must go here, here are some recommendations. Sandwiches Guacamole Burger/Veggie, Bacon Cheese, Blue Cheese Burger, Chicken Club, Dip Sandwich Sides The mushrooms are wonderful, but some swear by the onion rings. Try it with the homemade tarter. Shakes Raspberry, Vanilla/Chocolate Malt, Peanut Butter/Chocolate, Strawberry/Butterfinger (better than it sounds) Edit: Changed the 3 stars to 4. Had my first Scooter's burger in three months today and it was wonderful. I honestly don't remember it ever tasting so good. The bun was perfectly toasted, the meat was juicy, and the ratio of condiments and veggies to bun and meat were just right. I remember telling myself that I'd never eat here again after I quit, but I'll definitely be back.

Red Mill burgers are good; Scooter's burgers are GRRRREAT! ...In that classic, order at the counter, get it to go, burger wrapped in tin foil, fries served in a paper tray, kind've way. But, that's how I like my burgers. Messy, uncivilized. I'm not a big fan of fancy restaurant burgers. The patty is usually too thick (it's important to have the perfect meat-bun-topping-condiments ratio), the bun is typically a roll posing as a bun (chewy, hard to bite into), and the fixin's are usually served on the side, consisting of one piece of leaf lettuce, a slice of onion and a slice of tomato (and if you're lucky, a pickle - but the wedge pickle, which is not conducive to putting on your burger, so you have to eat it separately). Scooter's on the other hand, uses the pre-formed patties (you know the ones; with the paper in between each patty to keep them from fusing together when frozen), shredded iceberg lettuce versus the leaf; the buns are tried and true hamburger buns (soft, easy to bite into); the pickles are sliced and actually ON the burger, as are the onions and tomatoes. It's the little things that matter. If you decide to try Scooter's...go for broke and get the full meal deal: burger, fries and a shake. You won't regret it.

I'm super happy with Scooters. Loved it when I finally tried it after almost two years in ballard and I moved back, live in a different neighborhood, went back to scooters 1 or 2 weeks ago. For those of you that don't know (it's not obvious from their menu) they'll put any sandwich/burger item on sourdough bread. It's the cherry on top of the cheeseburger. A whole different burger experience. They've never overcooked our orders, the ingredients are great, we love their shakes, the customer service is nice. It's no 5 Guys (from DC and NOVA specifically) but their only 4 stars for me too b/c of the soggy fries. At scooters their fries are fine; but we really like the side of fried mushrooms and tartar sauce. Tried the fish sandwich the other day. I know it was a stretch. I'd give that 3 out of 4 stars MAYBE, the tartar sauce was amazing. There you have it.

Burgers have gotten better since the last time I was here. Fries are pretty standard. Burger was perfectly seasoned, not over salted like before. I'll come back if I'm in the area.

Probably my favorite burger in Seattle. I like to get the double cheeseburger with bacon and although I can finish it on my own, I think I feel better if I share it. It's just a good, solid, no frills burger that is delicious every time I have it. It makes me think of In n Out burger but bigger and with bacon. One of these days, I'm going to pay the extra quarter to try it with sourdough bread. The fries and good and the big of chocolate shake I had the last time I was there was delicious. See you soon, Scooter's!

What a hidden gem of a burger place. I discovered Scooters based on yelp reviews when i needed lunch near Jo-Ann Fabrics. I've gotten the bacon cheese burger with a small fry both times and the quality is great and consistent. The staff is friendly and will offer suggestions if you don't know what to get. The decor is super bare-bones. There is seating inside, but it's just along the front window. I like that they have a large parking lot too.

Sliding Burger Scale. Cheap burgers (not gourmet), made really quickly, loaded with all the artery clogging goodness your heart desires. The taste is actually really good. In all likeliness the patties are frozen but the seasoning they use must be what makes it so good. "Extra MSG please!" It's a no frills type of joint with one long sit down counter along the window. Perfect place to get a take-away order. Most people that come in are blue-collar types of fellas. One of them exclaiming jubilantly "Ah, shit you got pink milkshakes??" With nearby fast food giants on the prowl and Five Guys on the way, I feel it important to support these little spots that have tons of charm and a certain type of individuality to them. I do love Five Guys, but every one in the US is the same. That goes for McD's, Wendy's, Burger King, etc. Support the local guys. You get more out of it and the burgers are better. Not worth a special-special trip, but if you're in Ballard and want a quick burger, it is worth a visit.

I'm really stunned this place has such good reviews. My grilled chicken sandwich tasted off--there was something about the marinade that was kind of medicine-y. The fries weren't very good. I tried a burger and it wasn't very good. The staff was nice, but the food was gross. I'd never come back!

Inexpensive. Delicious. Rich in taste and milkshakes. What's not to love. Get the burger dip or BLT, depending on the degree of your belt and how many notches you're looking to adjust for.

Great place for an average sized burger. The ONLY place that I would say makes a tastier burger would be Red Mill. Although, Scooter's has better fries and shakes. If you want a better burger than Dicks or Blue Moon, then come here! Great customer service and good food!

How have I never reviewed Scooter's!? Kind reminds me of Kidd Valley, but more local (not that Kidd Valley isn't), great toppings, great burgers, but, most importantly, AMAZING milkshakes! If you haven't done Scooter's, you've got to give it a try. Sure, it's junk food, but done right! Bleu cheese bacon burger, how can you not like that? Thanks for listening!

Best onion rings I've ever had, and a very tasty cheeseburger too. Definately worth a visit, and my go to for hangover food!

3.5 Stars. This place is on the same level as Wendy's, McDonalds or Dick's. Decent fast food. Cheeseburgers (served on a sesame bun with Velvetta like melted cheese) runs around $5; fries $2. Staff was friendly today. Indoor seating is limited. Atmosphere divvy but the hamburgers are good. Tips: 1) The Entertainment Book has a 2 for 1 coupon for this place 2)They will make your burger on sourdough, if you'd rather. I like it better on sourdough.

Good burgers, good value. Not as good as red mill or rain city burgers, but very solid. Thin patties, but very wide. Their most popular item, the double bacon cheeseburger, was very satisfying. Also has guacamole which is cool
