Great outdoor patio that has an intimate feel and cute tables and bistro lighting -- a pleasant departure from sitting on Seattle's favorite picnic tables (which is what I was originally expecting). It was pretty quiet during Happy Hour (possibly because it's in a weird location on Cap Hill), which was awesome for people who want to chat and not be interrupted by horny frat boys and also great for people who want to drink and read alone. The drink selection at HH is a little limited, as there aren't many cocktails to choose from, but they do seem to have decent sangria and pretty good house wine. It did the trick. The food is also on point, with a good selection... And the price is right: 2 dollars will get you some pickles and a few dollars will get you some really great fries with garlic aioli. On another note, if you sit inside, they have a lot of quirky local art for sale which we've actually bought before. Will be back, mostly because the outdoor seating is perfect, especially on a sunny day in Seattle :)

AH-MAZING. Walked in on a Thursday night around 8ish? Wasn't crowded and we got a table right away. I guess my ONLY small little complaint might be that the music was a little loud. Even as a young person, I wanted to chill, drink a beer and have good conversation. Just felt a bit like I was having to raise my voice to talk to my friends. I ordered an awesome German wheat beer. Some type of Hef I think. Anyway, it was awesome. Took down three of those guys lol. For noms I ordered the Golden Girl chicken sandwich. It is torn pieces of dark meat chicken on an awesome roll with Mama Lil's peppers (which are the best) and herbs and other yummy stuff. It soooo hit the spot! That and my beer(s) just totally did it for me. My friends got beers and a variation on a Moscow mule and they loved it as well. They got burgers and they were bomb too. I hear they have an amazing brunch so I completely plan on heading over there this weekend! OH YEAH! THE FRIES!! GOD! The fries are to DIE FOR! Along with the aioli that accompanies it! Crap. Just....yum. Yum. Yum.

I love this place and I hope no one finds out about it. The drinks are delicious and cheap, the food is EXCELLENT, and the vibe is chill. I looooove their Sangria. Cap Hill could be jam packed but this place will be quiet and cozy. It's a hidden gem! Keep meaning to come here for brunch because I know I wouldn't be disappointed!

Had breakfast/brunch here with my roomate on a Sunday we showed up at 11 and got a table right away. Awesome biscuit sandwich with homemade vegetarian sausage. We had a couple coffees and enjoyed our server who wasn't too pushy but friendly. I liked the laid back atmosphere.Great place to meet groups of friends, too. Breakfast for two with coffee and tip $25! Going back.

Stopped by here on a Sunday afternoon with 2 friends of mine. I found street parking fairly easily just around the corner within perfect walking distance and the restaurant itself wasn't too busy, maybe several other people eating when we stopped in. I was able to sit where I liked and then my friends showed up shortly after I did. Our server came then by and took drink orders (I ordered the Bloody Mary with half regular vodka & half the horseradish-infused vodka) and my friends got tall cans of PBRs which came with their Shame Spiral breakfasts (amazing name) they eventually ordered. Their breakfasts had a lot and also a few options for the meat side (bacon, house-made chorizo, or a veggie sausage, which is what they got). They pretty much demolished their plates, not really anything was left, so I'm thinking it was all pretty good. I ordered the broccoli cheese scramble which came with Beecher's cheese mixed in it with yummy broccoli (always good), toast (slightly burnt but still tasty with butter & jam) and a very delicious mashed potato cake with a yummy crunch on the exterior yet very mashed on the inside. The interior of Saint John's is very cool and relaxed, lots of local art on the walls, posters, etc. Phil Collins was playing overhead nearly the entire time we were there except maybe a song or 2 by George Michael, yes! I really liked this little place for brunch and was so happy not to be totally overwhelmed on a Sunday at 12:30pm like I'm sure other places were in the area. My friends I think enjoyed their time here too and I would definitely come back again, especially for brunch or even in the evening for a drink. Prices are pretty reasonable too.

Looking for a nearby brunch experience that wasn't Americana, my boyfriend and I decided to try out Saint John's. We got there at around 10:30am on a Saturday morning and were the first customers of the day, which warranted us a bunch of attention from the two waiters. They quickly brought us a tall bottle filled with tap water, and whipped up some coffee for us. The coffee was a little grittier than I expected, but it was bottomless so I kept glugging away. I ordered the Nabisco scramble, and my boyfriend got the "Shame Spiral" without the can of PBR. We both really liked our food--especially the homemade chorizo and the mashed potato cakes. My scramble also came with an interesting smoked paprika sour cream. I'm usually not a fan of sour cream, but I rather enjoyed this one. I loved the interior of the place too! Pop art, concert posters, and huge windows adorn the wall. It's a spacious, spacious restaurant, and you don't feel cramped despite the fact that they have a decent number of tables laid out. Grab a table by the window, watch your lazy weekend morning go by, and enjoy some reasonably priced, delicious brunch.

I do miss living so close to St. John's as it is a great little brunch spot. Perfectly priced, great portions, and a great staff. Nothing that will blow you away, but definitely a consistent menu and atmosphere.

This place is a GEM! I went for the Boozy Brunch and enjoyed every bit of it. I had the Nabisco Scramble. All of the ingredients tasted so fresh and were flavored perfectly. The mashed potato cake might be the most delicious thing I've had in a long time. I also enjoyed the large mimosas. I will definitely be returning! Great brunch spot!

Service - 2. Drinks - 4. Stopped in here on a Saturday night as part of a bar crawl with my boyfriend. It was busy (as expected) but even taking that into consideration the service was horrible. We sat at the bar and were not acknowledged for at least 5 minutes (doesn't sound like a long time but in restaurant time it is). I've been to a lot of busy bars/restaurants and a simple "be with you shortly" goes a loooong way. We had gone here for a specific drink, the Czech mate (a Moscow mule variation), but was informed that they had run out of the ingredients to make that particular drink. This was fine except that the bartender offered no alternative suggestions; this was particularly surprising to me as upon perusal of the drink menu I found two additional Moscow mule type drinks. I recognize that alternative suggestions are not a requirement but I do think it is the sign of a good server to offer them. The server was generally pleasant once we were talking to him but didn't knock my socks off. We did really enjoy the drinks that we did end up ordering and the atmosphere of the bar was nice. It was not overly crowded or too loud even for a busy Saturday night. I haven't ruled this place out to revisit but I do hope that next time the service will be much better.

Perfect craft cocktails! I haven't had the food yet, but the entrees I saw looked pretty delicious. I will come here again for sure. I was here on New Years Eve and was impressed with the drink I had then, the Pear Collins. Decided to meet the girls here last night. The cocktails were spot on.

I really wanted to like this place. I ordered an egg sandwich. It stated that it came with a fried egg. Since I like to ruin eggs I asked for it to be fried hard. When I received my meal the egg was not actually fried but super runny. The waitress(?) left my sandwich and went back to the kitchen. Apparently the kitchen staff does not do "special orders" on this particular sandwich. She was a bit dismissive (even saying "whatever" when we explained what a fried egg is) and just said she was sorry and offered me a menu. How is frying an egg a little longer than normal a special order? The Bloody Mary was horrible also. I'm sad. I really wanted to like this place. But the whole experience left me annoyed.

This was a little surpirse treat. We were running late for a party but wanted to eat first so we popped in here. My husband had a great BLT and I had a pretty decent steak salad. The wine wasn't the best but the server was excellent. I'd say it's a good place. I do hear that the brunch is the real trick. It is loud... I wish places like this did the sound tile thing, that would help a lot.

Wow, their food was crazy salty and it was really overwhelming to the palate. The dish may have been good but I couldn't taste anything beyond salt. I've had dive bars use less salt on their food. Maybe it was an off night and I caught the cook with a chain smoking habit. Either way I probably won't try them out again as their prices are a bit too high to gamble on. Also, the service was pretty bad. Servers were nice which was a plus but we waited a while on drink refills and the check.

The first time I went here 2 weeks ago: awesome. Easy 4 stars, maybe 5. I brought a bunch of friend with me last night to return: meh. 2 stars, maybe 1. So I averaged the 2 experiences to 3 stars. The first time the burger was succulent: juicy, charred on the outside, The potatoes were fresh and crispy and molten hot. The cocktails were good and strong. Nothing to complain about! The second time the burger had almost a slimy texture and was bland. The potatoes were oily and limp when they got to the table. This time I went for beer, there wasn't much to choose from, and I didn't like the one I received. I felt bad because I dragged a group of friends with me building up their hopes for some awesome drinks and food. Maybe the cook was just having an off night. I might give them another chance, but then again, there are so many places to try in Cap Hill, and I still ended up dropping a lot of money for sub-par food.

Overall it seemed a bit pricey. Just for the small bites though. Didn't get an entree so can't really speak to that. It was a fine place to meet with friends and just chill. Among the four of us we split: - Queso fundido dip - really greasy/oily. I know it's basically a puddle of melted cheese but I know there are ways to create a cheese dip that doesn't separate (Velveeta, anyone? Just kidding, but there are emulsifiers that aren't from a chem lab set that work just dandy too). I liked the spicy kick to it though, with the pepperjack cheese in the mix and dusted with paprika. The mushrooms were just a topping. - Roasted dates stuffed with goat cheese - heavily topped with salt flakes. Very rich. ($7/4 dates) - $3 sangrias for happy hour! I'm no sangria expert, but this one seemed alright. Not very sweet so you could taste all the (cheap) wine. Minor nuisance were the flies. It was a little distracting to see them flitting around, but I guess it adds to the divey atmosphere.

Friends have been asking me, "Have you tried burgers at St John's?". I have been making sad faces replying, "No, I have not. Have you tried 8oz burger's burgers?". Seahawks monday. Guess, where I stopped? Yes. Guess what I ordered? Don't be a smart-ass. As I was enthusiastically drowning my arugula veiled beefburger in a bowl of chorizo gravy, I took to my facebook to let the friends know, St john's burgers ARE fantastic. The sky was dusking, the Seahawks were winning; I was washing down broth and blood with fizzy and bitter beer. It was a great day.

This place is awesome! I've been there about a dozen times and the food and service are just wonderful. This weekend, I finally went for brunch and had the steak and eggs. It was delicious! I'll definitely go back. They always have a rotating beer too.

It's sooo awkward reviewing the bar that replaced your decade+-long haunt. It's like reviewing your new boyfriend against your previous boyfriend. Luckily, we won't have to go into too much comparison between the two because your new boyfriend is obviously hotter than your previous one. Um. I mean, these are two completely different businesses. First, let me say that I loved its predecessor Rosebud. I always felt like Norm from Cheers when I stepped in. Strong drinks, witty bartenders, and an unbeatable well drink prices for Capitol Hill. The food was good too, but the former was what brought you in. My second time in to Saint John's, and while the first visit was unmemorable, my SECOND was amazing! I'll admit I had super-beautiful company so that may be it too. The artwork on the walls is awesome: off-beat, quirky, and expressive. Obstacle-type tables have been replaced with simple bench and table sets along the side. Our bartender manned the east floor and the bar in a slick fashion. He was so attentive and helpful! I think his teeth sparkled when he smiled. At his suggestion, we had tequila shots with slices of orange and cinnamon. I do like tequila, and their house wasn't chemically-tasting, but seemed watered down. In fact, it was weird that we did so many shots without any of us feeling anything, but on a school night, I'm not complaining! For food, I tried their wedge fries with aioli. PERFECT for finger-food conversation, and delicious. I also had their Beecher's mac and cheese which was good (if a little watery for my taste.) You can add pork belly if you want, but this girl's got enough belly for two people ;) My friend loves their grilled cheese sandwich and ordered it again. The Moscow Mule was delicious (in a glass, folks); the tap of Manny's cold. I'm down to try a redux with the tequila, orange, cinnamon shots again with some fine tequila!

Every time I come here I leave happy, including every time I bring friends. They do amazing French Toast for brunch and they do their pickles just right with a great variety. They do dark meat that I like (which is incredibly unusual). Love this place, and can almost always find a spot for 2.

I am a fan. To be honest, what makes a good bar, IMHO, is a decent variety of cold beer, appropriate whiskey & bourbon selection and vodka. I'm easy to please. The fact that this place has friendly staff, and the clientele doesn't look miserable is a plus. I really like the sausage and lentils plate. Even the veggie version is yummy. Great place to meetup and chat the night away.

I have lived just a few blocks from St. John's for quite awhile now, yet I never made it inside until recently. I'm really glad I finally broke the forcefield that was keeping me outside though! There's a lot of really great seating at St. John's both for you by yourself, a table for two, or even a larger group. They have a great menu as well as rotating pasta and soup specials. The last time that I was in I shared the East Pike Plate and some goat cheese filled dates, and yes, the dates ARE as good as they sound. I also had a glass of their house red wine. I think St. John's is decent, their staff is really friendly, and you can easily spend a few hours just sitting and nibbling and chatting, and not feel like you're being shoved out the door. I'll definitely be coming back for more!

Friend brought me hear for brunch and I had one of the the best steak and egg! The steak was a well season tender flank. The little potato cake was delicious. Egg cooked just right. Everything on the menu was well priced and everyone's food looked really good. The staff is really friendly and someone you can have a conversation with. i will be back!

Came on a Friday afternoon for happy hour. Happy hour is from 2-6. It wasn't that busy when I first arrived, but there was a birthday celebration soon after so the place got filled up fast. Drinks: I just had a couple red sangrias and it was decent. Food: The roast beef slider wasn't so good. The meat tasted processed to me and I wasn't fond of the over excessive aoili. The mini burger sliders were good though & I don't even like blue cheese. Also liked the fries with aoili. The dates with goat cheese were surprisingly decent. I wasn't sure how that was going to pan out & was a bit reluctant to try. Bathrooms: The ladies room was clean but unfortunately I'm height challenged standing at 5 ft 2 in tall and had to tip toe to see myself in the mirror just so I could reapply my lipstick.

Why aren't more people here? We were the only party for most of oyr meal. Burgers are great! Cone with aoli fries. We came because we went to another place to eat, and their kitchen was closed. Anyways, great burgers! Art on the wall, ambiance is grwat fairly priced

About 18 friends and I visited Saint Johns on a Sunday night as part of a Pirate Pub Crawl. We were in costume and paying with Susan B. Anthony and Sacajawea dollar gold coins cuz, you know, PIRATES! We'd been turned away by Cha Cha because the bartender didn't want to accept this particular American currency. :( :( :( But Saint Johns welcomed us with open arms, expressed amusement at our costumes and method of payment, and seemed to appreciate the business (and the very nice tips we left). They even told us we'd be welcome back any time for future events (and our group does events all the time). They were friendly, great prices, great service... We had an awesome time there. Highly recommend.

Came here for Sunday brunch with a lovely group of ladies. I hadn't been to the Rosebud, so Saint John's gets a clean slate from me and it did a darn good job with that slate. Service was spot on, the ambiance was just right - not too loud and crowded, and not too dainty to handle our group, and we scored a parking spot right out front, which was great because the weather was schizophrenic. I had coffee which was good and a mimosa which was great! I typically don't order mimosas because I don't like them, but the 'on the rocks' tagline tempted me into trying it and I'm very glad I did. I had a hard time deciding what to order but finally settled on the biscuits and gravy with a mashed potato cake on the side. I'm not sure I would do that again because it was a lot of carbs and made me a bit woozly for the rest of the day (or maybe that was the mimosa talking?). The mashed potato cake was tastier, so I would probably be inclined to order one of the scrambles next time, which comes with the cake included. It's a bit off my usual routes to become a regular haunt, but if you offer to buy me a mimosa, I'll be there in a flash.

My wife and I've been living in the area (3 blocks to St.John's) for a few years. We are very happy that we found this place. Great food with people with great attitudes! Always try the specials menu. Last time we went there there was the pan fried cod fish and the pasta. Both were very delicious. Not to mention the nice people working there. We can't remember her name but there was this blonde server who served us a few times. She was nice, very friendly and helpful. We'll definitely be re-visiting sometime soon.

Delightful, truly deee-liteful, I used to frequent this space when it was the Rosebud, and like an ex-girlfriend, she undeniably had a certain charm but the new girl that moved in? Well, huge upgrade, I have to admit. The menu is sophisticated but accessible, complex flavors presented in a beautifully simple way. I'm a fan of the babes, but that's no surprise, right? Little brioche buns, filled with goodness, my favorite is the Hoffman burger with it's sweet onion jam and sassy Gorgonzola sauce, the combo makes the Painted Hills beef sing in my mouth. I love the three bite sized burgers, it's the perfect ratio for me with the Happy Hour order of two of them. And the dates, OH LORDY the dates. Served three in a dish, warm like a lover's hand on a hot day, they're the perfect chewy sweet/savory combo that I die for. And then there's Joe's desserts, I've been a fan of the chef and his baking prowess for years, to find that he's here and I can just walk in and get an order of amazing sweetness any ol' time I want is like having a backstage pass to my favorite dessert-wizard's kitchen. Service is always friendly and attentive and I always seem to j'adore the rotating art they have on the walls. I've made the mistake of forgetting that I love it here one to many times but that was before I tried those dates... like Windsong, they're going to stay on my mind for a long time to come.

I really like St John's, for many reasons. For dinner, they have great sandwiches and soups, and the macaroni and cheese is rather good too. If I'm not feeling like a whole dinner, or want somewhere to work that isn't a coffee shop, they're a great place to come and work or hangout with snacks and drinks. On Sundays they had unadvertised trivia. I had been lagging on trying their brunch (mostly because of the surplus of good brunches on the hill), but recently made it, and it's definitely getting added to my brunch rotation. The french toast (so soft) and scrambles are particularly good.

Food selection average for me, way too many flies! Service was a little spotty Came here when I first moved to the neighborhood for a mid-afternoon snack. The front wide windows were open, which seemed lovely given the weather, but then it turned out that the place was full of flies! I understand a flying insect or two when the windows were open, but this was ridiculous. Our service was a little spotty, and I found the food selection only average for me (I'm a vegetarian with a semi-low spice tolerance). Each individual thing is no big deal, but that was a year and a half ago and I haven't been back since.

Got the burger with fries. The burger was VERY good, very tasty with really good toppings and the bun was delicious. Burger was cooked to a nice medium as well. The fries were very tasty too, a bit soft but nicely seasoned. Came with a dollop of sour cream on top, I like it but some don't. The service was a bit slow but nothing crazy. The worst part however was the noise. The music was very loud and the people inside were screaming to talk. It was 7pm on a Saturday and there was no reason to have the music that loud. Liked the food a lot but sadly won't be returning since the loudness of the atmosphere killed it.

Saint John's is a great space with high ceilings and fantastic lighting design that beacons from the street. Inside, the decor and "set design" of Saint John's is enjoyable, from the original cafe-style art all over the walls, the high ceilings, the great signage and artwork in the bar area. The service is friendly and relaxed, but a little inattentive. Unfortunately, the drinks at St. Johns tasted terrible. I would stick with beer and wine here, and veer away from cocktails. We were just here for drinks, and I tried the house lemonade mix with raspberry, and it arrived looking like a giant uber-sweet planters punch in an enormous pint glass. It was a huge drink. Generous. It just didn't taste great. They were nice enough about taking it back. I wanted to like this place, and tried again. The next drink was a Moscow Mule. This was equally bad. I suppose in my mind I was hoping for the Moscow Mule at the Walrus (ginger beer forward and dry) and ended up with one that tasted pretty similar to a margarita with supermarket purchased prepared mix. Not good. Usually, when I'm beckoned off the street, I am rewarded with a great experience just by following my instincts. I love that. Sometimes though, like last night, my intuition will lead me astray.

I have lived in Seattle for 30 years and I'm telling you, this is the BEST brunch in the city! Their mashed potato cakes are perfectly whipped and quickly, yet ever so slightly, fried to make the outside crispy and the inside creamy. Everything I've had on their menu has been made to perfection. Highly recommend the biscuit sandwich, and their scrambles are amazing, too. There's always tables, and the service is prompt. 5 STARS!!!!

Points for actually having an open table late on a Friday night! Sometimes I get a little overwhelmed with how crowded Capitol Hill is... Went in to St. John's after spending some time at the Garage to meet a buddy for a drink. They had an interesting selection of beer, and a back patio where I saw people smoking cigarettes while the staff turned a blind eye (illegal in WA). Probably won't be back any time soon, but it suited its purpose I suppose. Oh, and their bathrooms were GROSS!

Saint Johns is a wifi champion! They have plenty of tables so I can hunker down with a beer and the laptop for awhile and not feel like I'm robbing the server of a profitable table. They also have Dos Equis amber beer on tap, which is my favorite! They also have a marketing campaign which I really appreciate: a series of posters of famous John's like John Edwards, John Coltrane, John Denver, etc. Very Punny! Let's see...other reasons to appreciate Saint Johns: *clean restrooms *outdoor patio *atypical music (provided by the bartender on duty--i believe) *big windows at the front which they open up during nice weather *friendly service The food smells good but I have never had anything here except for XX beer and wifi.

Pretty chill place. Had a small brunch here and although it wasn't much in terms of portion size, each item had great taste, texture, and flavor. My brunch included a potato cake, chorizo patties, scrambled eggs and toast. I was surprised how each of the items carried a great flavor for being somewhat standard items. Also, my wife got the red sangria and it was really good. If you're looking for a light brunch and maybe a drink to go with, I would recommend this place.

Came in on a Monday night and it was a bit empty which was a little concerning but not a big deal. Drank a Manhattan to Prague (Bulleit, Becherovka, Cinzano sweet); pretty tasty, kind of a cool, gentle drink. For food I had Mac N' Mornay + Pork Belly. Came very hot but I was pretty hungry and I ate it anyway. Perhaps a bad idea, because I couldn't really taste it. Or, it could just be a bit on the bland side. I'm a huge pork belly person but it didn't seem to add a lot to the dish. It was cut up into small pieces which never seemed to be very satisfying. Had the Blackberry Slump for dessert. Deliciously warm and cake-y with ice cream for contrast. Very good. Service was fine; there was only one server but my party was eventually the only ones there. Atmosphere was dim and cozy. Can't really remember the music, but I do remember they eventually had the audio of Mrs. Doubtfire on near the end of the meal for some reason. It was a little distracting actually. Although I wasn't a huge fan of the mac and cheese, their menu is full of exciting items that I'd like to try, so I'll be back again soon.

5 STARS FOR THE ART! Ok so I walked by here right after happy hour ended, just as the people in the window were being served delicious looking burgers. Little slider things. YUM. so we went in and--oh sorry, there is only one menu and here it is. Uh ok. It seemed a little contrived to me, but :::HEY::: I'm just an eater not a chef. Anyway, we tried the $8.00 appetizer, "salty, crunchy..." whatever. Grilled beef jerky, crispy egg roll with sauce and bbq'ed on a stick pork meatball. meh, bland. geasy. We really just wanted the burger. THAT seemed authentic. In fact, people came in right after us and wanted the burger too. When they were told about the limited menu they got up and left. The wait person had misgivings about this menu too--wasn't selling it. Not that I blame her. We got the hell out of there in search of authentic food--with heart.

Stumbled in here with some friends on Tuesday night. Sad to see that the Rosebud had been replaced (shows how much I'm on the hill), but still wanted to give this place a try. They must have removed a wall because this place was opened up, no complaints. I didn't look but I'm hopeful they still had the quaint little patio out back. Menu was on the small side but still plenty of options to fill cravings. Started with Bruschetta - it was killer. I had the Saint John burger with fries, burger was decent could have used some ketchup and fries were tasty (only 5 small ones on the plate), but wished there were more. One friend had the Spaghetti while another had the house salad and pork belly sliders. Service was attentive and friendly. Prices were average.

We went for an early dinner. Our server was attentive and easy going. The goat cheese stuffed dates were amazing, with just the right ratio of cheese to date. We also had some outstanding onion rings. I had the Reuben sandwich. All too often, Reuben's are a soggy mess - this one was an exception. There was plenty of meat in the sandwich, with little fat. The sauce wasn't overwhelming and nicely complimented the other flavors. For dessert we had house made eggnog ice cream, which was the perfect ending to the meal.

Yum! I came here for drinks on a friends birthday but ended up getting food because everything that came out for other guests looked and smelled so delicious! The service was a little slow, but it was really busy that night, so I can forgive that. Everyone was friendly and the servers were very attentive when they were at your table. Ambiance was great, the mood was lively, and everyone seemed to be having a great time! I hear they also have great breakfasts! I'll be back soon!

Their sangria is great! And it is only $3 during happy hour. The patio area is nice, especially on hot days since it is pretty shaded, and for being in the heart of Capitol Hill the prices are pretty reasonable. The staff is always nice, and they have great art on the walls.

First I would like to start off with the good parts! I had a yummy BLAT and the fries with aioli were delicious! I was not feeling a positive vibe from the snooty blonde waitress. My friend's went last week and raved about it so I was excited to try it out. Maybe she was having a bad night, if so I hope things turn around for her. Cheer up Charlie! :)

I can't attest to the quality of the longstanding Rosebud, nor can I attest to St. John's food (as all I got when I stopped by were cocktails), but I can say with certainty that I like Saint Johns already based on the 40ish minutes I spent sitting at the bar last night. I didn't stop by immediately after opening because, like most restaurants, I figured there would be some opening edges that would need to be smoothed over. My French 75 and Moscow Mule were both super tasty and reasonably priced (even after I stopped by after the happy hour prices), and the service friendly and quick without being intrusive. The bartender is a G, very French, and cool. Yup. Saint John's is legit.

Non-pretentious bar/restaurant in the middle of Capitol Hill, where the Rosebud once was. They have great food that I'd usually expect in higher end restaurants. St John's is quickly becoming my a favorite destination. I have been there twice for dinner already, and I hear that their brunch is good too. The space is great for groups, but it also works for small parties and dates. The staff is quite friendly, yet not too chatty, even on busy nights. I strongly recommend the goat cheese and dates for the appetizers.

Let me just preface this by saying: I REALLY miss Rosebud. I was v excited to go to Saint John's. I should've contained that excitement for another place. Decor: sparse, kind of sad, reminded me of a college bar. On Cap Hill. Not at all cozy. It seemed like a really quick build out of a space and BAM! There it was. Food: mac n cheese was watery (Really? How does that even happen?) & had chunks of garlic that didn't work well...in a watery...grave. Burger: Painted Hills. Huh. Interesting. It was gamey. And the duck fat fries? Kiiinda soggy, topped w/ what I think was hummus? I don't even know. Drinks: you really can't f*ck up a Moscow Mule. Or maybe you can. This one was pretty basic (and that's ok), but not one to write home about. Service: so-so. Our server was pleasant, but in a curt sort of way. We wound up leaving after 20 minutes b/c I just couldn't stand it anymore. I'm hoping they work out the kinks b/c I so want to like this place. RIP Rosebud, RIP.

Very pleasant. Laid back and fun vibe, with some artsy touches. Seat yourself (at least on weekday nights). We had a host of staff checking in on us, all very friendly and alternative. Their cocktail menu includes a variety of "Mule" drinks...as they stock a delicious ginger beer, they're happy to throw a selection of different liquor in there, if the Vodka/Moscow Mule is getting old. Menu is small but well thought out. A nice selection, we had a very hard time choosing. Ended up with two sandwiches and both were delicious. The slightly-embarassingly-named "Italian Stallion" was lovely, with selection of cured meat and an egg. Yum! They stock really great Macrena breads, too. Available with the house salad, which is vibrant and tasty, or with fries. Delciious but they come topped with an Aioli that is not mentioned on the menu. My pal said it was delicious! But I have a few pickier eater pals who would have been horrified to find a mystery white sauce already spread across the fries, not on the side. So maybe they should mention this on the menu, so the more timid diner can ask it to be skipped or served on the side.

Thoroughly enjoyed dining and drinks at Saint John's. While their menu and kitchen continue to improve, the service we received at SJ was absolutely top-notch our entire visit. The drinks came out in what seemed like less than a minute... which has to be some sort of record in beer-pouring and cocktail mixing. The staff knew every detail about the food, had *actually* tried everything on the menu (other restaurants take notes) and provided really useful recommendations. I appreciated the draft beer choices which didn't just stick to stupid IPAs (I happen to like IPAs, just not ALL the time), which seems to be the trend these days, but rather offered a range of microbrew varieties. The food was great with only a few exceptions. First of all, the ice cream has to be the best I've had anywhere. It's made with all the local, organic blah blah blah with flavor combinations that Molly Moons can only dream about. I ordered the "sliders" for dinner, but didn't think they pulled together whatever they were trying to do. The burgers, on the other hand- looked absolutely amazing and gave me complete order-envy. The stuffed dates proved a worthy appetizer as well. For a new place, it's surprisingly put-together and I predict this place will reach saturation in no time.

I really like this place. I usually come here with friends as one lives close by, so it's nice spot to hit up for a quick drink or bite. You can also spend many hours here as I have done in the past with ease. They do have their own custom drinks and a nice menu. So far, I've had the sliders, burger and some other items which were all good. I can't recall which drinks I've had, but they were all good and strong. The place isn't very big, but can seat small or larger groups quite easily. They do have a patio area in the back, but it's usually occupied if the weather is nice. The wait staff and bartenders are nice and attentive. If you're looking for a place to start off the night or just hang out for a bit, Saint Johns is great.

Haters gonna hate, as the kids say -- no, this isn't Rosebud 2.0. It's a wonderful upgrade / addition to the neighborhood, with excellent drinks and a great bits-of-gourmet menu, held together with love and hard work by the same folks that run Solo in Lower QA. I don't know who had snooty service from anyone here, but I can attest personally to the fact that Michael Lee and Finn (bartenders) have never been anything but 110% pleasant, personable and accommodating. Thoughtful dishes, well-crafted drinks, good vibe, great light, and a lovely little happy hour. RIP, Rosebud, and to everyone who loved the divey darkness as much as I did: let's play nice and give St. J's a chance to shine.

Server was o-k. A bit snooty. Food was o-k. Had the mac-n-mornay & the burger. I didn't mind it. It wasn't great or bad. I finished it. It was decent. The atmosphere was a bit sad. The empty walls and sparse decor made the space feeling cold and uninviting.

Came here for dinner on a Tuesday night, wanting something tasty, relatively close, and fast. Given that Saint John's is mostly a bar, there were only two other tables there for drinks. The experience was good, but it's all about the food for me! Food: I had the Market Fish (Rainbow trout that day), with pureed cauliflower and asparagus. It originally sounded vaguely healthy, but alas. It ended up being something I could make at home, but with WAY more butter and salt than I would use. Service: Food came out quickly, and our server was very attentive. Ambience: Cool vibe and spacious, with local art on the walls. A bit loud for dinner.

After several failed attempts to go to 95 slide across the street, i saw St John's like a light at the end of a tunnel. It was perfectly chill, the staff was super friendly and the food was great. I wasn't expecting the food to be that great, but it was! I had a steak salad and it was perfectly seasoned and prepared. The wine list was pretty good and I enjoyed my vihno verde very much. I'll definitely go back! I highly recommend this place.

I only had some drinks here. The french 75 was good. not stellar. I did like that there was a huge mule menu. We sat on the deck on a nice day and that's what turned me off. It was just kind of gross. I felt like i was in the backyard of some nasty communal home. Not well kept, bugs around, kind of dirty. Overall just a bad ambiance. The waitress though WAS very friendly.

Came in around 11am on Sunday for brunch, pretty much empty. Food: I had the St. John's breakfast (2 eggs, mashed potato cake, and toast). Was pretty upset that the toast came with packaged jam, ultimate sadness. The rest of it was OK and adequate but nothing stand out really. S/o had the biscuit sammie with chorizo and sriracha aioli. He said the aioli was fantastic! +1 Ambiance: Large (maybe moreso cuz it was SO empty) and clean with a modern industrial feel. Odd decorum but interesting to look at none-the-less, lots of animal paintings on one wall and patent diagrams. Obviously a bit random but nice enough. +1 Service: No complaints, food came promptly, coke refilled quickly and self-serve water. Finally, the check came promptly (don't you hate it when it doesn't??) +1 Convenience/Price: Price was high for what was available. The biscuit sammie was overpriced and came with NOTHING else on the plate which seemed a bit odd. Street parking in cap hill was abundant on the fine sunday morning but prices mean no stars in this category. +0 Other Factors of Awesomeness: Nope. Just an average place for me. +0

Awesome brunch spot! They were very accommodating for a group of us and even made a custom bday shot for my fella. Food was tasty and the Bloody Mary with horseradish infused vodka is where it's at. I'll be back another day, I hear they have a great burger.

St. Johns had a super laid back and welcoming vibe. Usually get together with my ladies for happy hour there which has some great deals! I usually opt for a couple (ok, lets be real, several) Sangrias which are only $3 each during happy hour. They also have a lot of tasty small bite type appetizers!

Our meal here was excellent! We had a wonderful waitress who gave us excellent recommendations, was very attentive, and made sure our visit was wonderful. The food was divine and the atmosphere was beautiful. I would highly recommend either of their burgers and the Pike platter (cheese and meats). You won't be disappointed!

Went in for dinner and drinks last night, busy but not full which is perfect. We were greated promptly with water and menus---are drinks were delicious and never went empty! The chicken breast dish my husband ordered was sooo good that I am still thinking about it this morning! Met with some friends and chatted on their covered back patio--really liked this place and look forward to going back!

I liked this place, partly just because I got a table really easily on Friday night at 7. Drinks were fine, food was really good. I had the pork belly sliders (called babes on the menu) and they were melt-in-your-mouth tender. You can tell they put great care in their ingredients and preparation. Service was fine and the place was clean and fun. Great for a casual night out.

For the money, Saint John's rates pretty high in my book. Stopped in last night on a whim and had a great experience. Husband and I split their version of a cobb salad to start, which consisted of arugula, black beans, blue cheese, avocado, crumbled chorizo, and pickled onions. While the greens were WAY too heavily dressed, the rest of the toppings were delicious and plentiful. The chorizo was tasty and a nice change from the bacon you usually find on Cobb salads. I had the burger, which I thought was pretty good. The meat was perfectly cooked to medium, which is how a burger should be, regulations be damned. It was juicy without being sloppy, and the sweet white bun held up well to the heft of the burger. The duck fat fries that accompanied were a nice touch, but I wished there were more. It's probably a good thing there weren't, though. I had a boozy watermelon lemonade to drink. Yeah. I could have had an entire pitcher of that to myself. Yum. The food is pretty inexpensive for the quality of ingredients, the area of town, and the service -- which was friendly and attentive, a rarity on Capitol Hill. I'll definitely be back to try the brunch.

This is a great place to brunch on the weekends if you're looking for good food without a huge wait. It's worth coming to anytime, but breakfast here is my favorite. The menu includes a breakfast entree that comes with a beer :)

Great location right in the middle of the Pike/Pine corridor, and just across the street from the Egyptian and Erickson theaters make St. John's a great place for a drink before or after a show. The owners of the popular bar Solo in Lower Queen Anne have done a great job remodeling the Rosebud, keeping the comfortable bar and booths, as well as the outdoor patio in back. Big windows opening to the street give the room a lot of light and air, which makes it a perfect place to people watch during the day. The sangria is delicious (Val's recipe) and their wine selections are smart and affordable. The bar features many local distilleries, so be sure to ask Michael for a suggestion if you're ordering a cocktail. The cheesesteak sliders are my new favorite food item, but if I'm really hungry, the kale caesar salad and a burger are a great combination. On Thursdays they've been having guest DJs during happy hour, and the walls always display the work of a local artist. It's great to have St. John's on Capitol Hill!

Saint Johns was new to me. So new that while going there I actually walked right in front it and only realized my mistake 2 blocks farther. I won't make that mistake twice. The occasion was date night and a drive to collect toys for children in need organized by a startup named Uber. We arrived and quickly got a table. The place is nice, cozy with dimmed lights and isn't too loud which make it perfect for a date. We started by getting drinks from the waiters who were quick to come to us and I got myself a burger as I hadn't had time to eat before coming over. That burger was the highlight of the evening. The bun was soft and fresh, the meat was tender and juicy, the fries were hand-cut topped with a bit of mayo that complemented them perfectly. I'll come back just to have a burger. Another good point for the night, Uber was giving away various items in exchange for the toys collected and I got a scarf out of it, it pays to be nice to kids :)

I met up with a few friends for brunch at Saint John's. To my shock the place wasn't at all crowded, perhaps its just the newness of the place or lack of word-of-mouth, but for how good the food is I would think that their brunch should be jammed packed with people! Right now, I think Saint John's brunch is the best kept secret on Capital Hill. I had the biscuit and egg sandwich which I thought was really good. I would say just as good as the biscuit sandwich at Serious Biscuit, only a little more manageable of a portion - which is nice. Now, one of my friends that I went with grew up in the south and has been on a search to find a "true southern biscuit" right here in Seattle. So far, he has had no such luck. However, he said as far as biscuits go, Saint John's sure makes a good one, it may not quite be a true southern biscuit, but I have a hard time believing that it would disappoint.

I have only come here for Happy Hour so far, and love having their $3 Sangrias and the Pork Belly Sliders which are so flavorful and delicious I can barely stand it. The roasted chickpeas are crunchy and addictive - which is great considering how much I don't like chickpeas. The venue is open and comfortable. I like to seat near the open windows in the front and watch people walk by while knocking down those sangrias. There's also outdoor seating in the back. I am interested in trying dinner and brunch soon. Service is okay, though my friends aren't too keen on the one with a perpetual frown. Nice place!

I've had a little chip on my shoulder ever since the Rosebud went away and thus, never really was interested in this place. WHAT A MISTAKE. I went here on a whim when my best friend and I were sick of everything else on the hill. They really did a great job on the re-model. The staff was sweet, the top shelf liquor selection had improved tremendously and the the vibe was just right. We didn't eat, but had a few rounds -- and the old fashion's were perfect. I certainly look forward to returning.

I only came here for drinks - so I no idea about the food! It was right next door to the condo my group was staying at so we stumbled in and I unexpectedly enjoyed my time at this cozy little gastropub/bar! Cool art on the wall, laid-back but hip atmosphere, and a great menu! I had recently become obsessed with ginger beer, and was VERY excited to see a whole section dedicated to mixers with ginger beer. loved the moscow. Interesting beers on tap as well as the option of a shot and a beer - score! A good place for a chill night in with some friends. Def. not the best place to get crazy though. Convenient to the hot dog stands that line capital hill pike st........ (omg try the seattle dog - cream cheese and all - possibly the best drunken hot dog i've ever had INCLUDING bacon wrapped .. whaaaaat???)

'tis brunch from 10am-3pm on Saturday & Sunday, and my dining companion and I sampled: "BISCUIT & EGG SANDWICH $8 - cream biscuit, two scrambled eggs, wild arugula, piperade, cotija, sriraca aioli*. add bacon or chorzio sausage $3 FRENCH TOAST $9 - Les Boulangers Associes brioche bread, bourbon whipped cream, toasted hazelnuts, fresh fruit." Both were served very promptly and were delicious. They weren't too crowded, so we were able to have a conversation without everyone nearby eavesdropping. The walls were covered with cool local art and they have free wireless. The only thing that would've made things more enjoyable for me was that 80s-90s pop was blasting (Boyz II Men, etc)... not a dealbreaker, but not my preferred dining soundtrack either.

We came here during happy hour on Friday. We easily found an open table and got menus quickly. The space is pretty decent in size but for some reason very loud. We ordered sangria & a beer to start while we browsed the menu. There was a lot of good looking dishes - all reasonably priced. We narrowed it down to the Reuben babes, st John burger, goat cheese dates, smoked salmon bruschetta and meat platter. My favorite of the bunch was the Reuben's...they were really tasty! And unlike all the Reuben's I've had before - the meat was very lean, I loved it! It came with house made pickles, although they tasted like they weren't pickled long enough - still tasted like a cucumber. Weird, but surprisingly delicious! The smoked salmon bruschetta was also good - same ingredients as a lox and cream cheese bagel, nothing special its exactly like you think it would taste. The goat cheese dates were a bit dry. My bf said the burger was good, cooked perfectly. Neither of us liked the meat plate - we don't like mortadella and the salami tasted funky...we didn't eat much of it. Overall - good value for a happy hour meal ($45 total). Service was good. Bottom line, I wouldn't go out of my way to come back (nothing was memorable except the Reubens) but I wouldn't be against stopping in if I was in the area and was hungry.

As a local at the old Rosebud, I was a bit ambivalent about Saint John's. Fortunately, I was happily surprised to find my new favorite spot on Cap Hill. The lovely patio is just the same as I remember, with friendly staff, great happy hour and amazing mac & cheese. Not to mention some new inspired dishes. The dates and goat cheese is ace! The fresh new atmosphere is relaxing after a long day at work, and Friday nights are a hoppin place to meet friends. All in all, an excellent spot!

Soft ( with a capital S) opening for friends and family tonight is going smoothly. The house pickles are delicious and the moscow mule tangy and bright. Drink list includes sangria, a vodka lemonade with rotating house fruit reduction, and an "around the world" mule selection, where you choose vodka, bourbon, etc. as the liquor: everyone loves ginger so I'm sure this idea will be well received. Food list is uncomplicated but definitely not lacking in variety. Some finger foods including roasted chickpeas, a roasted beet salad with fennel, and the mushroom & chestnut cavatelli really caught my eye. As mentioned before, the pickles are fab, but the highlight thus far has been the mac n cheese with roasted crimini! Excited for the full opening! edit: must try the Bell Boy! A savory cocktail with gin and red bell pepper. So much amazeballs!

I recently visited Seattle and was looking for a chill place to hang out on the hill. My friends had drinks here and then decided that they just had to go back for dessert. After dinner we met up at Saint John's and felt quite at home. We felt comfortable and uncrowded at our table and were pleased with the soft lighting and overall rustic feel of this eating space. I love dessert and was fine just to have dessert. I had a peanut butter mousse which was divine and I of course ate from my friend's brownie a la mode. If I am ever in Seattle, I will definitely be looking to come here again.

It is understandable that there is some lamentation when a long standing Cap Hill institution like the Rosebud closes, but I really think this place is going to develop into something WAY better. They kept the back patio, put in real bathrooms (yay!), but gone is Rosebud's weird wall in the middle of the space and hopelessly out-of-date decor. In is a slick but inviting interior, the drinks were pleasantly stiff-as they should be on the Hill, menu looked impressive.. no doubt it is totally a bar, but the food is higher end. Staff was friendly and attentive. They have George Dickel TN whiskey, and I drank a lot of it. We got the house pickles, spiced nuts and roasted chickpeas. Never thought of snacking on pickles while drinking, but seriously, they were amazing.. really went well with the spiced nuts. All in all great, I'll totally come back.

I have been eagerly awaiting the opening of this place since learning that the folks behind Solo were taking over the old Rosebud space. I am a devotee of Solo, and so I was very excited that some of my favorite people and food in the city were now going to be within walking distance from my home (sorry, wallet and liver). So I guess it could go without saying that I've already dined and drunk here on several occasions since the soft opening, and it totally lives up to expectation. Val & crew have done an awesome job cleaning up and re-designing the space while keeping the best of the old Rosebud furniture (like the retro light fixtures). Very tasteful, airy yet cozy space. The food. Homey, crafted with love, and delicious. I've eaten or at least sampled the St. John's burger, the chicken thighs w/ brussels sprout salad and bacon vinaigrette (pretty much what I'd make for myself at home if I were a trained chef, so basically my perfect dinner), the salted goat cheese stuffed dates (which I have deemed to be literal amazeballs), and the trout. Each and every was delicious, balanced, and well-executed. Booze. I'm a wine or bourbon type of gal, so I can't comment on the cocktails or the beer. But I can say that, like Solo, there's a smallish, but very well-selected wine list at affordable prices. I'm a bit biased about the service as I count some of the staff as close friends, but there's a reason why their older sister restaurant has so many regulars (and why St. John's will follow suit, I am sure) - these folks treat their customers with the kind of warmth that brings people back again and again. Plus, brunch is coming soon and in the summer the patio will be open for al fresco dining and drinking. What more could you honestly ask for?

My husband and I came here for brunch today, and it was my treat, so I wanted to find a brunch to be proud of. That said, I enjoyed it immensely. I ordered a bloody mary (they have 3 options but I went traditional) and a egg + biscuit sandwich with bacon. My husband had the two fried eggs with chorizo sausage patties, Macrina toast, and potato cake. I loved the potato cake! So darling and unique, plus the taste and velvety texture with an almost crispy bottom won me over. He complained that the eggs looked like they were served upside down. They tasted good. Jus' sayin' is alls... I loved my biscuit, and the aoili, the bacon, the eggs were delicious, although instead of scrambled per the menu, they came out over easy - I prefer them that way, but watch out for continuity failure if you're picky about your eggs. I guess it would be best to state how you like them. Overall, my sandwich was the best breakfast sandwich ever! The bloody mary was good to very good, my husband said the coffee was "no joke," meaning it was a good strong brew, but the cup was on the small side. The waiter refilled it throughout the meal. The ambiance was similar to other Hill restaurants that have opened in the past 3 years: wood floor, various grey colors on the walls and trim, art on the walls, 2 and 1/2 booths with a leather or leather-like fabric (in the same place where they were when it was Rosebud). I loved the grey velvet curtains by the kitchen and pantry that matched the paint. I also liked the open feel when you walk in - kinda like Odd Fellows, but smaller. I think the menu is small, but honest, the space is open but has a sparse feel to it, and the best thing is that it's a short walk from where we live. I think it's a nice addition to our community, and I look forward to going back - especially for sangria :) .

Out goes Rosebud, in comes St. John's. Although Rosebud was a precious standby, St. John's is a welcome addition. The food and drink were great. My group sampled a variety of cocktails and entrees and we agreed everything was delicious. We had a variety of the house cocktails, mac and cheese, trout and chicken. All very tasty. And the rosemary spiced nuts were a perfect addition to our pre-dinner drinks. The service was hard to find at times, but they were very sweet and attentive when present. It's a new restaurant and we went on a busy Thursday night so I don't hold it against them. Thank you St. John's for being a great successor to Rosebud!

I love Saint John's! The food and drinks are great. I haven't shut up about the pan seared trout w/ parsnip puree, which was out this world delicious. The goat cheese dates were yummy too! Have to say I thought the food was very good; well considered gastropub fare. I had the salmon bruschetta and house burger, both excellent. Only ding was the super slow service from my server, who was slammed only apart from when I asked for the check, which came immediately. Would definitely go back, though.

Potential. That's how I would sum up our experience on Friday night. We popped in to check out the latest and greatest addition to the hill. We were seated quickly and pleased to see a happy hour menu for food AND drinks. That's when things started to go downhill. We received water kind of quickly and then didn't have anyone stop by our table for quite a while although people kept flitting by to refill water, drop off a drink or food order in our proximity. Cute concept serving the water in old liquor bottles but I wanted an adult beverage stat! JP and I had picked out a couple of nibbles from the happy hour food items only to be told that they weren't starting happy hour until Monday night. #fail. We ordered the mac 'n cheese, the house pickles and the meat platter which had 2 kinds of cured meat, bread, white beans, carrots and pickles and a couple of other items. The food was all tasty and you can't really screw up wine and a pint of Rainer so why not more stars? Service definitely needs to be worked out. The space is nice but looks like every other place opening in Seattle nowadays so nothing special; however, I do think this is a great spot for some drinks and nibbles with friends (the burger which was delivered to a nearby table looked scrumptious). Once their happy hour kicks off we'll be back. Hoping service will be a bit more on the ball as they get more nights under their belt.

I can't vouch for the food, but St. John's is a nice place to have drinks with someone. There's table service, and the noise level isn't too bad. I had a couple of Moscow Mules, which were strong and delicious, but they weren't served in a chilled copper mug. The copper mug makes the drink seem fancier and more fun, even though it's the same libation inside. Saint John's feels just a little bit spartan inside -- it's one big space with lots of hard surfaces and minimally padded seating -- but feels comfortable enough nonetheless. I'm eager to go back and try the food.

Roomy, laid back and comfortable atmosphere. Had breakfast here twice and was quite happy with the food. Had Italian Stallion sandwich which was delicious, salme, mortadella, provolone, pepperocini AND a hard boiled egg on a chewy but soft baguette. My companon had the biscuit sandwich which was yummy. Also, a great stop for late night snacks and drinks. May become a regular stop for me!

We went to the Boozy Weekend Brunch at St. John's on a Saturday. It was great from start to finish. The place was surprisingly empty. Nice industrial, re-purposed decor, great menu, I had the pork belly Benedict, wow. And my two brunch mates each got the biscuits and gravy - which they could have split because they were huge! Friendly service and good tunes, we'll be back!

The burger the burger the burger! Oh and those awesome fries made with duck fat! I was not really craving a burger at all, but our server, Finn, convinced us both to try it and I was super pleased. My only complaint was that I wanted more fries! Service was great, beverages were great. I might miss belly dance nights at Rosebud, but this place is great. I'll be back.

I was visiting Seattle his past weekend. Walked by this place and thought that I would try it out. It wasn't busy at all. There was only one table taken. I should have taken that as a sign of what this place might be like. The food was mediocre on over priced. The service was terrible. The waitress was more interested in socializing with her friend than serving table. I would NOT recommend this place at all.

Mmmm, the sliders. So freaking good. Definitely try them. Oooo, and the drinks....love em. Going on a weeknight usually, we don't ever have problems grabbing a table. I'm a fan of this place and think it's a good addition to that strip on Pike. I have been there a few times and always enjoy myself.

This place ALWAYS has the best food, a welcoming and swift staff, and fantastically delicious atmosphere. Other businesses in the area need to take some notes from this establishment. Did I mention the food? THE BEST!

I like it. Miss the Rosebud, but I like the maturity this new place brings! No douchebags or immaturity that the Rosebud had on it's way belly-up. I do have to say that Roman needs to return. All in all, I like the new place a lot!

It's no Rosebud. More restaurant than bar. Still early, so things may be able to change.

Lovely food, great menu, TERRIBLE service. If you don't mind dirty tables and inattentive staff well, you probably wouldn't know a good burger either. I would come back but the overall experience was a thumbs down. I can't say where the blame should go. The menu makes you excited, the table with cocktail rings, impatient staff, and touch and go art collection gives you pause. I'd rather get the food to go than sit around for 1/2 an hour after eating to wait for a check.

9 French fries. $18 meal. Nuff said on that. The wait staff was very nice and attentive, ambiance was soothing, beer was crisp, and the St. Johns burger was just what I needed to shame-eat after a tough midterm exam.

Sat us right away on a Friday evening. My boyfriend and I each got a vodka lemonade which we found to be delicious! We split the mac and cheese (made with Beecher's cheddar) and the burger. SO GOOD! Modest pricing all around. We will be back.

St. Johns is my new Cheers! I love the food (especially the spaghetti with meatballs! Yum!), delicious cocktails (who know absinthe with cassis and black pepper would be so tasty??) and a delightful staff. I live on the hill and am constantly checking out new bars and restaurants and i must say St. Johns is definitely at the top of my list! Absolutely worth checking out..
