The venue is gorgeous, down to the last tiny detail, like the wall tiles, and worth a visit just for the tour (enchiladas were delicious too!). I want to come back when the upstairs bar and balcony are open. Very cool what they've done with this neighborhood venue, and the service was wonderful, although our server's Spanish was a little rusty.

Wish I could give zero stars. Terrible customer service. I had bought a yelp coupon for this place otherwise I would've left as soon as I got there. I made a reservation for dinner last week and showed up on time. They were busier - some couples waiting to be seated. I walked in and the waitress at the check in counter barely gave me the time of day, she acted like I was in her way. Without her even greeting me I told her I had a reservation she said "it doens't matter, I don't have it" and walked away. She came back and continued to do other things and still not even offer to put me on the waiting list. I tried to pull up the proof of reservation on my phone and she didn't care, nor did she try to come up with another solution (or even put my name on the waiting list! which would see so obvious wouldn't it?). I told her politely they should look into getting the reservation system fixed and she said in a very snappy voice "Yes, we should". I told her she didnt need to be rude and it wasn't my fault and she snapped loudly that I was the one being rude and walked away. Another waiter came by next, and I explained my situation, then asked her if we could be bumped up on the waiting list at the very least. She said she would see what she could do but OF COURSE, the super rude woman I had interacted with was the manager. I pretty much knew I was screwed at this point. Again, I had the stupid coupon or I would've left. I ended up eating here and the server we did get was nice and did the best she could, but the manager never came to apologize for being rude but instead passive aggressively avoided me the whole time. Will never go back, there is plenty of Mexican up on the hill, please don't waste your time here either.

Good food, lively and warm ambiance. For all those complaining about high prices, go to Taco Bell. Nana's is very well priced for the amount and quality of food, and comparable to other restaurants in the area. Server was energetic, warm and very speedy. Overall, a great experience! Will definitely be back.

yeah, my grandma was stingy too! 32 dollar fajitas for two came with 4 small shrimp (3 of which were still in their shell) jerky like shredded beef and rubbery chicken? $5.00 jamaica sin refill? The tortillas came in a closed plastic container. Usually this keeps them moist and warm, how did these tortillas get so cold and DRY? Rosarita refries. Aggressively bad food. I have traveled all over Mexico and enjoyed delicious regional cuisines from all manner of establishments on each visit and I promise you, these types of problems are not hallmarks of authenticity. You get the impression that someone in that kitchen really doesn't care.

First of all I want to say I cannot believe how many bad reviews there are on this place! We had nothing but good service, great food and will be back! The enchiladas were awesome! They did come out a little late.Took longer than it should have, but the manager made up for it.very personable.I believe he may be the bartender as well? Our margaritas were just right and the decor is very festive and fun. Keep up the good work.

I'm so sad to give Nana's a mediocre rating. We had watched the building get converted from Emmer and Rye all summer and just finally got a chance to try the food. The ambiance was great- very festive and enjoyable. Unfortunately, the service and food were lacking. The servers were all very friendly, which was a plus, but they were slow, despite there only being 2 other tables full, and they didn't bring us what we ordered. Fish was previously frozen and dishes were bland. Not any better, and maybe not as good, as any of those chain Mexican restaurants. There are much better options in Queen Anne- Laredos and Mezcaleria so I don't see a place for Nana's, especially considering that they are priced about the same as the other 2.

Had a great dinner for the two of us, of course we were really hungry, but Nana's delivered two excellent meals. Carne Asada and tostada Carne, both were great, with very chips and salsa, especially their green salsa. The place was crowded, but we were seated within 5 minutes. The acoustics in the room we were in was loud, but the food offered good distraction.

Sadly, they are trying to garner business by using a name very similar to that of a very successful Mexican restaurant, Mama's Mexican Kitchen. Tried "Nana's" once and won't be back. Food was average at best, service was poor, and the utensils were dirty.

I was hoping to really love this place as the decor is wonderful and it's in the neighborhood. It was a sunny Saturday night. Not too busy but enough people to think the food would be good. I also only complain if the product is pretty bad. Positives: chips and guac were yummy. Decor is adorable! Margarita was strong. Service a tad slow. However, my food was sub par. I ordered flautas, which are difficult to find in most Mexican restaurants as they are bit more authentic than your usual tacos, chimichangas, enchiladas. I could barely eat them. They seemed over-fried and just an odd tasting seasoning on the chicken. The rice was alright but I've had better beans. My friends dish was no better. She said she could make better enchiladas. I thought about complaining to the waiter, but since my friend's dish was no better, I didn't want to eat another poor dish. I hope the cook was out sick that night or a really good reason why subpar food as it seemed like other people were pleased with their food.

I love Nana's. The decor, the outdoor patio - a wonderful addition to Queen Anne. The very one and only Nana is usually working whenever I come in. She knows me by name and also gave me a very warm hug when I told her I recently ended a relationship. Since Nana's was 'our' spot, I hadn't been in a while. I like the Mole' here, and the enchiladas. But best of all, I love sitting on their patio on warm summer evenings. They do not stay open extremely late, really just until about 9 or 10, so make sure to check out before closing time.

Thought we would take a chance and try the new place in QA. Most bland Mexican food we have ever had. I didn't know it was possible to make Mexican food with no flavor. For the same amount of money ($45) we could have gone to Cactus and had good food and something more than water to drink. Ya. A bill that high and all we had was water to drink. We had the carne asada quesadilla, which had no flavor. My wife had the enchiladas with the red sauce... Again no flavor. So we thought... Let's get the queso dip ($9), it's pretty hard to make cheese not taste good. After two scoops I sent it back and said you can keep it. It didn't even have taste, just like putting something white and rubbery on a chip. My advise to the owner is we love your nana and all, but her recipes are not working for you bro. And that is just the honest truth. If you want comparable Mexican food, save yourself some money and go to Taco Bell.

My wife and I stopped in for some nachos mid-afternoon with the kids. Great menu & kids menu, and well executed nachos, salsa and guacamole. The upstairs bar, lounge and deck look very promising.

We had lunch there today. Nothing to remember though other than the fact that we were overcharged by $9 allegedly because the computer mistaken our lunch for dinner which costs more. The snappy server didn't notice until I asked about it. They serve mediocre ,overpriced, forgettable food. There are so many great Mexican restaurants in Seattle and there is really no reason to ever go back. Chipotle for example is about 10 times better ,just fyi.(We are not in any way affiliated with them ,we are just regular consumers).

We had the best tasting Mexican food since visiting Mexico. The plates are large and the atmosphere feels like Mexico. It wasn't just a great meal, it was a great experience. Had the Mexican ribs and they were phenomenal. Tried the Margarona which was a giant Margarita with a Corona upside down in the jar. Wow! Very creative. Going to the Super Bowl party there!

We went for lunch, on an impulse, got a table for five. The service was great, the food was good, I've had better Mexican food, BUT the atmosphere was great, servers very friendly, and it looks like it is a perfect restaurant to bring your little children. We'll try it out with the family and see how it goes, but I gotta say, I liked it.

I'm not sure why this restaurant is only getting a few stars, but it's some of the best authentic Mexican food I've had in a long time. I definitely encourage people to try it or try it again if you only went once. This has become my new "go to" place for lunch and happy hour. First off, the people who work there are very friendly. I've been there a few times now and everything we've ordered has been delicious. The tostada salad bowl is so good, salsa is very flavorful, great guacamole, tasty street tacos and one of the best Mojito's I've had in a long time. Very festive atmosphere, yet causal and a nice place to hang out. Glad it's open all day too because I often eat lunch later in the day and some places close in the middle of the day. There's another Mexican restaurant just down from this, Mezcalita Oaxaca, and they have really good food too, but it's too small, noisy and bar-like for us and not always open. Love this place and highly recommend it!

It was the first time I have ever wondered if you can legitimately reverse charges on your credit card for receiving such terrible food. The service was even worse. Can you deduct money on the tip line? Where to start...there was so much bad. Such a disappointment. We are vegetarians and asked our server what he recommended. We were told there were only two choices other than salad. We ordered both. The burrito and the enchilada Rosas. Upon inquiring we found our the rice is made with chicken stalk and said we don't want rice then. The server then asked what kind of meat we wanted on the burrito. Really? Of course when the meal came it was served with a side of rice. Back to the kitchen but he brought out the same plate again. This time explaining that they no longer use chicken stock in the rice. Maybe a lie but if not that would have been nice to know before ordering a burrito without rice. The enchilada sauce tasted like it came from a jar. The only thing that wasn't bland was my child's nachos which were oddly spicy. The server argued with us over whether or not the menu said the meals came with rice and beans and we had to get him a menu to prove it did say that. The server was rushed the whole time, it took forever to get our meals, the burrito was cold and the rest of the meals were barely warm. The drink we ordered, the diablo, was disgusting. On the way out we noticed crayons and coloring pages that certainly would have come in handy while we waited for our kids meals. The restaurant is beautifully decorated at least. I'm sorry we didn't sit on the terrace as we will not be going back. Expensive, bad food, terrible service. No thanks.

On a Seahawks gameday, the place was pretty much deserted when we arrived at 5:15PM. We sat outside and used a coupon for a free burrito when another one is purchased and two drinks are ordered. A basket of tortilla chips and green salsa was provided for free. There are three burritos on the menu, pork, beef, and chicken. At $14 each they are massive. We each ate half of our burritos and took the rest home. The burritos were very tasty and well made. But they were far too large for a normal person. It would be far more interesting to have a smaller portion and other plating options with it. Our overall take on Nana's is that it seems a more traditional Mexican style restaurant than the other two on the avenue, which we prefer.

  • Rachel B.

I wish I could give Nana's a better score. I live just a few blocks away and would love to visit more, but my friends and I have been disappointed on all of our visits. The atmosphere is great. The rooms are decorated in fun bright colors and the porch would be great during the summer! Unfortunately, I have found the drinks to be really inconsistent. Myself and two friends all ordered margaritas and were served essentially three different drinks. One had some kind of orange juice in it, the other one tasted virgin, and then one regular margarita. I have also found the food to be good, but not good enough for the prices charged.

I randomly stumbled upon this place last Friday for lunch around 12:30. We sat outside because it was a nice day. It was a little understaffed but I think it was just because it was early, near the end of our meal another server came as it got busier. Our server was very sweet! I got the steak fajitas and my friend got the chicken salad. First off my portion was huge for only $13. I am used to fajitas costing so much more at other places and honestly they were the best fajitas I have had! Perfectly seasoned and had the best mix of veggies sizzling as it came to my table. On top of the fajitas I got another whole plate with rice, beans, sour cream, guacamole, lettuce, and pico de gallo. As well as a container with corn tortillas. I will definitely be back for these :)

I went here with my fiance on a week night and luckily didn't have to wait for a table since we wanted to sit outside (we would've had to wait 15 minutes to sit inside). The food was excellent, with substantial portions. The only reason I am rating it 4 instead of 5 stars is our drink order took an unusually long time. We received our margaritas AFTER we received our food. The waiter said it was because the bartender suddenly got hit with many drink orders at one time, but who knows if that was the real reason. If you sit outside, you can bring your dogs, and they will give you a water bowl for your dog(s) to drink from. Because we have dogs of our own, we will definitely be coming to this restaurant again (especially because one of our dogs just so happens to be named Nana as well! :)).

Based on breakfast, the chili verde sauce and the horchata this place rocks. This location has been so many things and I hope this one sticks. The eggs were done well, the chorizo was right on and the potatoes were nice and crispy. Looking forward to dinner here soon.

  • Eli S.

The food was really good (mija burrito) and the portion was impressive. The drinks were just ok...very weak (for $14 I want at least 1.5oz of tequila in my margarita. Is that too much to ask?) The service was a little disappointing as well. The waitress forgot one of our drinks, we never got a second basket of chips, and my water glass remained empty for most of the meal. When we were ready to go it took a little time to track down the waitress to get the check. I will definitely eat the food here again....but I will get it to go and enjoy it in the comfort of my own home.

I wanted to like this place! We bought a groupon and the reviews were great, but when we got there, not so much. The waiter acted like he didnt know what the groupon was and had no idea what margaritas were included in the deal. The margaritas were okay, but nothing to rave about. The food, gaucamole was super good, but our nachos seems like they sat under the warmer for too long and the cheese was no longer soft, so the nachos all came up in a clump. We decided not to order dinner and just left after our appetizers. Sad face =(

The service was very friendly but pretty slow even though there appeared to be quite a few open tables. The decor was gorgeous and bright and overall just gave you a happy feeling which was nice. I wasn't too impressed with the Chicken and Mole I ordered but I am really picky about this dish and that day at least it just wasn't working for me. My friends both ordered the quesadilla with pork which looked really good, although we were deep in conversation so I never heard if they enjoyed it. The prices were fair and the portions were decent. I'd be willing to give it another shot and try other dishes.

Visited Seattle for a wedding and stopped here twice. Food is pretty good. I'm from San Diego so I know good Mexican. This place had decent food. I'll say they should have more ala carte menu items in case you're not too hungry. Also service is a tad slow.

We've been back twice since my initial review. WOW the improvement is amazing. Fair prices, good service, delicious food. Sorry Oaxaca down the street, Nana's is here! No arroz con pollo on the menu, but the other items dazzle. We had the Chile verde and it was perfectly spiced. Fresh tortillas and endless chips and salsa too. It's still a little loud in here, but we are Nana's converts.

My favorite Mexican restaurant on the hill. Fast service, excellent ingredients, and large portions. Good mix of traditional recipes and more typical Mexican-American staples like burritos. I especially like the drink options and after 4-5 visits I haven't had a dish I didn't enjoy thoroughly.

Wandered in here on a rainy Saturday night and immediately felt warm from the bright, sunny decoration. The walls are bright yellow and it just feels like summer inside Nana's. We were given really good chips and salsa upon arriving. The chips seemed to be sprinkled with some sort of addictively good flavored salt. The salsa was also very flavorful. My husband and I decided to get the molcajete. It's $15/person and you must have at least 2 people order it to get it, but oh my gosh what a deal! We each got a bowl of black beans and rice and there was a giant plate of guacamole, pico de gallo, and shredded cheese and corn tortillas. And then, the giant bowl of meat and sauteed veggies - it came with 5 shrimp, a ton of chicken, and a ton of steak with a spicy chipotle sauce on top sauteed onions, peppers, and cactus. We each had 3 giant tacos and took home enough leftovers for the same size meal the next day! And it was all delicious - the meat was perfectly cooked. They are running some Yelp deals now, so we got $10 off for checking in. With tip and tax, we ended up paying under $30 for two solid meals worth of delicious meat and veggies for both of us. Highly recommend!

Service is terrible! It took about 15 minutes for them to take our order and not because it was really crowded. We came here because this was the first time we actually found free parking here in Seattle. Our waiter was very friendly when he finally waited on us though, and the food was good.

We joined some friends here for dinner last weekend. Despite some less than glowing reviews, we all felt Nana's a worthy restaurant. Service was excellent, their margaritas were very good. They had my favorite Mexican beer on tap too. Food was served promptly and while not the best Mexican cuisine we've experienced, was more that acceptable. My only nit was the parents of some kids in another room who let them have the run of the restaurant. The restaurant manager came into our area several times and apologized. It wasn't her fault, it was the clueless parents who appeared somewhat sauced. We overheard one of the moms as they left saying they were appalled that the restaurant asked them to control their kids....wow, their manner less behavior detracted from the pleasure of multiple groups in the place. Hope they read this.

Have been here twice now. The first time was phenomenal and everything was spot on. We both ordered beef fajitas, it was a ton of food, the flavors were delicate and complex, the chips were bountiful and the best I have ever tasted thanks to what I imagine is lime salt. The second visit however was bad enough that we are disinclined to return. The waiter was stingy with the chips. It took 15 minutes to flag him down to ask for a second bowl and that was all we got. The exact same fajitas came with far less food .. hardly any meat and the beef was thin and overcooked, three overcooked to crunchy flour tortillas, the tiniest bit of sour cream, half the amount of rice as the previous time. When we asked for more sour cream and tortillas we were charged for both. The waiter was friendly but in every other way this was a poor experience. Very disappointed.

Wow, the decor is amazing, they really put in the extra work. It's a very welcoming environment partially because the restaurant is in a house. I had chicken enchiladas verdes and they might have been the best I've had. They had a good amount of cheese inside, who doesn't love melted cheese? Some of these reviews crack me up. You're upset it's too quiet, or you came during their first week and it wasn't perfect - get real. Some people just don't want to be happy. I will definitely be back to try other meals (the breakfast menu looked good). It would be a great place to bring out of town guests.

Sadly, this was a very 'meh' meal. I ordered the Camaron Del Diablo to go. The serving size was massive, and when I arrived at home (maybe 6 minutes after leaving Nana's), the food was still piping hot. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, and were abundant, but the rice was mushy, and the black beans were nothing special. I thought it was odd not to receive tortillas as usually this is served with tortillas. Nana must think differently since the menu doesn't describe it as coming with tortillas. No complaints on the spice level, but the sauce itself was missing something. It lacked the depth of flavor that even Americanized Mexican restaurants in the suburbs easily manage (and for a lot less than $17, too). It's possible I caught them on an off-night, or maybe their regular cook was out that day. I don't know, and I doubt I'll return to find out.

Although I wanted to spare you the details of terrible meal at Nana's...I have been asked to elaborate. Service: Slow. Our server forgot our drink order. We received our drinks with our food. Street tacos: Arrived tepid, the skirt steak was unseasoned. The green chile salsa tasted like the plastic container it was stored in. The beans were dry and my guess is they were left over from the night before. I am Mexican and know left over beans when I taste them.

  • Chloe W.

Pricey and kind of bland. I was really hoping it would be better. My drink was watered down too and I'm pretty sure no alcohol was even in it, plus the people next to me were telling their waiter there wasn't any in their own drinks as well. The place down the street is way better and has good stiff drinks.

We showed up at this cute little house turned into a restaurant, was quite busy and we waited for quite a while. When we finally got seated our waitress kept forgetting what we had ordered to drinkin to bring a napkins, water or silverware. But once it got going, it was amazing. The drinks are so good, and the tamales were moist (cooked in banana leaves) and f I led with an explosion for flavor. After we took a relaxing stroll down the neighborhood and enjoyed the little shops and vintage homes. I most definitely will be back there again.

We were visiting Seattle and happened upon Nana's on our second day. The food was so good that we went there 3 days in a row. The people were great and the place has a cool vibe. It's an old house so it felt very homey. Both my husband and I liked everything we ordered. The chips and salsa were amazing!

We love Nana's! It starts with their chips which have a touch of lime and always come out warm. Huge plates for the enchiladas and burritos and all very fresh. Service consistently good and we also love the patio. Decor is also lively and festive

Get a groupon for this place! I went here with my boyfriend last night and it was perfect. The interior is adorable and feels so comfortable. The chips are warm and taste like they have been dusted with lime & their salsa is super fresh & tasty. Our waiter was really nice & offered us more salsa twice. I ordered street tacos with chicken and they were amazing; the chicken was tender af. Rice and beans were seasoned well and were hands down the best rice and beans I've ever ordered. Definitely recommend!

Stopped in for a late lunch at Nana's while walking around Queen Anne. It was warm and sunny outside, so we chose to sit at a small table on the outdoor patio, which is slightly elevated from the street level by a few stairs. Service was great! The waiter made sure that our water glasses were kept filled and even brought a refill of chips and salsa. Speaking of which, the chips and salsa at Nana's are incredible. Great blend of spices (lime, too?) on the chips and we practically inhaled the salsa. My husband ordered the street tacos with al pastor and I had the tacos de pescado. My husband's dish was great--the al pastor was flavorful and rich. My fish tacos were pretty good too, and came with Mexican-style coleslaw and sopa de fideo. Definitely worth a try, especially during the slow time of day.

First time stepping in for their weekend only breakfast. It was slow inside, but the staff was very friendly and the omelettes where fantastic. Would totally recommend slipping in here if you want a good breakfast away from the lines at the other nearby establishments.

There is only one word I can use to describe my recent experience: incredible. When I went to Nana's during their opening week, they definitely had some kinks to work out. I'm delighted to say that when I returned this past weekend to give it a second shot, I was impressed beyond belief. The owner Eladio seriously responded to early yelp reviews and has made some very positive improvements. First of all, the chips are amazing. They have an insanely addictive seasoning on them. As for my meal, I got a taco salad made with black beans instead of meat. It was, without a doubt, the best taco salad I have ever had in my life. Cucumber, spinach, carrots in a..TACO SALAD? YES. My fiance ordered the Mijo Burrito which was awesome and I wish I had snagged more than one bite. We also were given complementary tostadas as we waited for our meal (which came out very quickly). The server noted that the refried beans are now vegetarian and no longer contain ham hock. Considering how intently the owner responded to his customers' reviews, I sincerely wish the best for Nana's. We will be back. Many times.

Great, bright ambience and cheerful and welcoming staff. The food was priced okay, and the meat dishes were decent, but the side dishes were lackluster. Ribs were super tender and the chili verde was good, but the rice and beans and other sides were just sort of so so. If I went back it would be for breakfast but only if I happened to be nearby.

The upstairs, outside Cantina is the place you want to be into the night! The joyful ambience and music and above standard Mexican fare all add up to a good date place. The service is excellent. They may want to consider adding another bartender to speed drink delivery. A hidden gem on Queen Anne!

  • Amy S.

I thought the food was pretty good. It wasn't amazing but I don't think any mexican food in seattle is. My only complaint is that everything was very salty...the rice, the beans, enchilada. I also didn't like the weird flavored (lime?) tortilla chips they served with the salsa. It just didn't have a natural flavor. I'm not sure if they are made in house but if they are, please offer both flavored and unflavored chips! Just a nit pick but I prefer restaurants that ask if you want corn tortillas or corn chips to eat with your salsa/guac. I thought our waitress was nice and that she was attentive, especially considering how many tables she was taking care of. I'll definitely be back to try the food again and hope they go easy on the salt next time.

Good Mexican food. Large portions that are uniquely seasoned. Expansive menu with lots to choose from. Service was great. Decor is very nice. Looking forward to trying out their patio when the weather gets warmer. I know how hard it is for new restaurants to succeed, hopefully Nana's stick around for a while.

Nanas is exactly like eating at grandmas house, if your grandma is a really bad cook. We ordered the molcajete, (32 bucks) which is a great idea in principle; a heated stone bowl with sizzling meats and veggies, like fajitas that stay hot. This 2 person shared version included 4 (count em) sauced shrimp, still in their shells, which you found out after beginning to chew. Not all of them, just 3, so you know it wasn't that they were supposed to come that way. Then the weirdly rubbery chicken and beef, bleh. Jamaica that is 5 dollars a glass with no refills! We know QA rents are high but REALLY!?! The place was cute and the waitress did her best, but that food was hard to overcome. I didn't even want the leftovers. So sad that this is right down from Mezcaleria Oaxacena, one of the best Mexican restaurants in the country.

We really really wanted to love this place. We live in the neighborhood and my boyfriend loves Mexican food. Service was great, but the food was average. We ordered the guacamole, made to order table side. I thought this was super fun and cool. The experience was fun and interactive, but it tasted average. I think it may have been the quality of the ingredients. Boyfriend ordered the carne asada. He said the meat was flavored well, but was dry. He said the refried beans tasted like they had been pulled out the fridge, and reheated. My pollo salad was ok. Very average. Service was good, and it was very elaborately decorated which was cool. Sadly, we won't be back.

I was just here with my family 2 nights ago. We were looking to eat outside on. 60+ degree night but unfortunately they were less than ready for that despite others having the same idea we did. The tables were filthy and the service was awful. It was one of those nights where you had to ask for nearly everything, the app arrived yet we had no utensils, then no napkins, no water, etc etc. The food was okay, not great, I'd say the chips and salsa and beers were the best part...things that are not hard to get right. As a forewarning, their happy hour only goes until 5 and it's only in the weekdays so get there early if you have it in mind!

Service was super slow. We sat there for 20 minutes before anyone came to offer us a drink. Food was very mediocre and salty. Even the salsa was disappointing. Wouldn't go back.

The Good 1. This decor and ambiance is bright and pleasant. I have now eaten here twice. The food is decent however every time I'm here it just never seems to go right. For example the last time I came I ordered the short ribs. I asked for the side to be an order of black and an order of Pinto Beans. The waitress acknowledged this because I told her I did not eat any carbs: Rice, Pasta, Bread and so no tortillas either. My order came out with a bowl of some kind of Pasta Soup and no beans. When I had to walk inside to find someone to tell them the owner came out and proceeded to show me on the menu where there was pasta soup that came with the meal. This did not explain why I had zero beans. If i order it then u should bring it and if there is confusion to wether the meal comes with beans then get a waitress who knows WTF is going on... I had to explain to the owner that I still wanted what I ordered black and pinto beans. Just not motivated enough to deal with so so food and so so service. No manager comment needed.

My wife and I were driving through Queen Anne looking for a fun place to eat without the kids. We ended up at Nana's and were happy we did! We ended up splitting one of their huge Margaritas, which was quite tasty and a lot of fun. I had the Chili Verde and it was awesome - Pork was perfect and tender, just the right amount of spice in the sauce. My wife had the Fish Tacos which were quite good (if a tiny bit fishy tasting). The fish in the tacos were broiled, which seems to be a bit of a rarity lately - Everyone is going towards deep fried which isn't as good. The service was great - The wait staff was very attentive friendly and our food and drinks were served very rapidly. All in all, a very enjoyable evening sitting on their patio on a warm summer's evening!

This was some of the worst food in the queen Anne area it's so far from authentic its unreal if you want real Mexican food in the downtown Seattle area go to mamas bitchin burrito kitchen in Belltown the only thing that's semi cool here is the guacamole I do not suggest drinks here because the bar liquor selection is a joke and margaritas are made with well tequila (‾.‾") terrible no DON Julio blanco I expect more out of a queen Anne establishment the only thing cool about this place is the outside seating and that's it really the staff uses a cup instead of an actual ice scoop because the manager Nana is "Lazy" kinda chunky the head waitress speaks no English and is married to the head chef I strongly recommend eating at the owners other restaurant on capital hill(‵) The owner of this place is a great funny guy but run from his queen Anne venue They overcharge people here a lot so check your bill this place got lucky because mamas just closed but I'll go to el borracho in pike place market instead still

Came back to Nana's for the upstairs Bar Grand Opening and was impressed again with the service and the food. The bartender Jesse was friendly and emergetic. He also made the best jalapeño Margarita I've ever tasted. He recommended the chili Verde which my date had and loved. I had the chicken salad which was huge, fresh and delicious. We will be back again!

Nana's has been on our radar since it opened. After driving by the other day, the decor just pops out and draws you in. Very inviting and warm, you honestly don't feel like you're in Seattle. We were immediately greeted and seated at 5:30pm. Water and drinks were served within 5 minutes. I ordered a Gordita. After 30 min, we received our food. My son ordered Carne Asada. Unfortunately, I noticed other parties were waiting a long time, too. The wait staff tried to make up for it by offering more water and store bought chips. Kudos to them! I was very disappointed with the gordita. Store-bought white bread roll instead of corn-meal based? Honestly?? Store bought taco shells instead of homemade? My son did enjoyed his entree. I hope Nana's decides to take the time to make some homemade items. I really want them to succeed.

Super over priced for what you get. I waited 30min for server to come ask me if I wanted another margarita. 10$ for a weak margarita so I figured I'd spend 16$ and get the 32oz. Weakest margarita I've ever had. I spent 30$ on cups of juice. Ended up leaving without even ordering food because who wants to pay 15$ for a burrito! Only good thing is the patio. I won't be back.

A solid Mexican restaurant with charming decor, hit-or-miss service, and slightly above average food. I have come to Nana's twice; both times with Groupons (one $18 for $30, and another $25 for two 2 appetizers and 2 margaritas). The first visit using the $30 Groupon was above; it was a busier Saturday evening, yet service was attentive. The food (nachos grandote(?) and beef fajitas) was tasty, yet not overly impressive for the price-point. My fajitas were served without tortillas, but it was corrected quickly and we had a nice remainder of the meal. The second visit was on a slower Thursday night with fewer patrons in the restaurant and a packed patio. The two margaritas that came with the Groupon were traditional Nana's margaritas (pretty good, but I'm no expert), and we picked two appetizers (triple dip with chips and the mexican pizza). Both were very good and the queso in the dip was excellent! We also ordered a nacho grandote to nibble on and an extra margarita. The service was lacking at the beginning of the evening, but eventually became more attentive as the patio cleared and the oversat waitstaff diverted some attention indoors. We enjoyed the remainder of the evening was we nibbled on the rest of our food. The check came for our food and I payed the portion not covered by the Groupon, and left a sizeable tip for the total before the Groupon was deducted. After retiring for the evening I realized that the $42 value that was deducted for the groupon did not, in fact, cover the cost of the Nana's margaritas and appetizers that I had ordered! It was only $4 or $5, and I didn't find it worth calling to remark about. Overall a decent place for dinner, but the price point is a little bit too high for the quality of food.

In the interest of time, I will simply say that the previous reviews are accurate, and that the signature pomegranate drink, chile verde and enchiladas verdes we ordered were all blown away by the bottle of Corona on the table. These guys have a lot of work to do to bring the food and service up to speed.

Not sure what all the bad reviews are about - we had friendly, attentive service and the food was tasty! It's located in a very cute, cozy house decorated with bright colors and beautiful art. The chips that were brought out prior to ordering had some sort of zesty lime flavor on top, which the adults adored and the children weren't so thrilled about. Also, when I said my 11 year old eats like a 5 year old, they let her order off the children's menu. This made me very happy because I hate paying for an adult sized meal when she only has a few bites before saying she's full. Overall, an enjoyable experience! We would happily come back.

What a letdown, I have been wanting to try Nana's for a while and was so excited to give it a chance when my friend and I were in the area. The drinks looked delicious so we each ordered one. We sat with our chips and salsa for quite a while (the chips were really good and salty, which I like) and then the server came and took our food orders. We waited and waited and waited and then finally got our food, still no drinks. We had hoped to enjoy drinks with chips, you know, like you normally would at a restaurant. We mentioned to the server that the drinks were taking a while and she made a comment about the bar being busy. There were 4 whole tables there and it was 2:00 in the afternoon. Nice try. When we did finally get our drinks my friend's margarita was on the rocks with salt. She ordered blended with no salt. The server said she'd bring another one but we declined since we were halfway through the meal and didn't want to wait for another drink. At that time she should have maybe said the word SORRY or even comped the drink. Nope, neither. The food was okay...The tamales were unlike any we have seen before, they were sort of gelatinous. My enchilada was good, the rojo sauce was really yummy. I also ordered a side of sour cream which finally came out about halfway through my meal. When it came time to get the bill the drinks were listed as $10 instead of the $9 that was posted on the menu. We actually had heard the table next to us just complain about this when they got their bill so we were quick to check our's too. The server gave us the same comment about how the menu prices had changed and they hadn't reprinted the menus yet. Well sorry. If you made that mistake on another table, you can't just do the same thing to us and the rest of the guests and think no one will notice. If anything, the proper thing to do would be to warn us ahead of time, before we order, that "oh, by the way, the new menus are not printed yet so just so you know each drink is a dollar more than the listed price." If I would have be told that ahead of time I would honestly have no problem with it. It's just the sneaky way of hoping we don't notice that really bugs me. In the end I'm disappointed. The server was pretty flippant about things and the food was just so-so. I hope they will work out their issues in the kitchen or this place will not be lasting long.

Nana's is much bigger than it looks when you're walking by. There is a ton of outdoor seating - both out front and an upstairs patio. The service is generally very quick and getting your food is always quick. The staff are very nice. The veggie fajitas are amazing.

Mediocre at best. Plaza Garibaldi and Pesos in LQA, while not amazing, deliver this sort of Tex/Mex WAY better, if that's what your after. And with the fantastic Mezcaleria just down the street, there's no reason to eat here. I wish an El Borracho (with its simple but great giant burritos, street tacos, and El Cheapo margaritas) would open in this spot -- that would the perfect QA companion to Mezcaleria's fancier/'authentic' fare. Sigh, yet another merely OK addition to the QA food scene.

I would recommend Nana's if you're craving Mexican food and have no way to leave the south side of Upper Queen Anne. Our experience can be summed up as mediocre. Service: Our servers changed multiple times with no notice. It was near the end of the night and it seemed like whoever felt like it was coming out to help us as needed. That said, they were all friendly and extremely helpful. Food: My friend ordered a carne asada taco plate and I had nachos. Both were just okay; nothing to write home about it (I'm looking at you, Matador nachos). I found it odd that you couldn't just order a taco or tamale a la carte -- had to part of a pricier plate. Drinks: Aside from their house margarita, there were no standard cocktails on this menu. They have obviously made an effort to be incredibly creative with their concoctions. I had a rosemary-infused gin + hibiscus agua fresca + strawberry puree drink. It wasn't good, it wasn't bad, I wouldn't order it again. Everything else looked on par with that -- combinations you would never imagine which seem like a 50/50 gamble in terms of taste. For the price and quality, you're better off going to Plaza Garibaldi in Lower Queen Anne. Huge plates for a better price. Plus you get free chips in salsa...that was missing at Nana's. It's a shame such a "meh" restaurant went into this awesome location.

We had a great time here. I had a little trouble getting ahold of them because they have no phone number listed (although later they told me it was 206.922.3340), and we wanted to make a reservation. We had six adults and three children (one high chair, one booster) and wanted to start at 5 PM on Saturday. I dropped by (how convenient) and verbally asked for the reservation, then texted to my parties and met them at the appropriate time. Everyone was seated and accommodated with ease. We ordered a few beers (mine was negro mondelo on tap) and had waters for everyone else. The atmosphere was festive, noisy but not overwhelmingly so - just right. Matching an early review, I ordered the Mexicana Ribs and they were excellent. My friend ordered a carne asada and enjoyed it, but my brother said his chicken mole was not as good as either of those. My wife enjoyed her nachos and my vegetarian friend enjoyed her tacos. Food was a success. I could tell they were a bit overwhelmed, but after our waitress encouraged my meal (that is "my favorite" - and it was awesome) and gave us a free beer because she poured the wrong one and didn't want it to go to waste), she was my hero. Rather than some of the pessimism here, I'm going to move up from four to five to give them the benefit of the doubt. We look forward to coming back here.

Just pathetic. With a few notable exceptions, Seattle has pretty terrible Mexican restaurants. Even compared to the worst of the Americanized local chains this place is bad. All of our food seemed like it was straight out of a can (salsa for sure). Everything was bland and the meat tasted old and nasty. Service was slow and clueless but food came out quickly. Only on Queen Anne can a place this bad survive for long. I won't be back. I have no idea what's up with the 5 star reviews - those people must have very low standards indeed.

    (1)
  • Jason T.

They gave us what looked appeared to be white corn Tostitos to start our meal, while the beans that were part of our entree must have come out a can. I grew up in Southern California, so my standards for Mexican food are apparently too high for a place like Nana's.

We have been before and couldn't get service, after 30 min we walked out, hadn't even been greeted. We had bought the coupon so we went back a second time. Food is good, atmosphere is fun and we will most likely go again at some point if we crave mexican food because it is close to our house but their customer service needs a little work before I would recommend it to others.

What an experience! Rather than a summary I will bullet point the highlights! * the host seemed to have cut himself shaving and may not have looked in the mirror prior to leaving the house. * lipstick on my water glass... And it was not mine * a wasp flies by the table * no concept of time, chops were delivered, no salsa, then salsa came but we were out of chips * customers across the way smashed a wasp between the window and a menu * food arrived after 40 min, no flavour Such a disappointment! The one star is for the quaint charm this place has. I can't imagine there are many return customers.

Such a wonderful MEXICAN Restaurant! I've been to a few PNW mexican places and nothing compares! Breakfast was so good!Taste like Mama's kitchen! The old Victorian House turned Cocina was filled with old Queen Anne history with a Latin touch. Our waiter gave us a tour of the house and we talked traditional Mexican food! My plate was clean when we left! I will be back again!

We've had two great experiences at Nana's now and had to review! Everything from the atmosphere, to the drinks, to the food is wonderful. We've had the guacamole, steak fajitas, and the burrito now and all were so authentic and so good. The owner was extremely friendly, Nana herself even stopped by to say hi. The upstairs bar was great, and we're excited to come back when the upstairs outdoor seating is open. After a few years of avid La Luna fans, we're excited to finally move away from them and have Nana's in the neighborhood!

My review is based on their service and interaction since I have not been able to try their food. On two separate occasions I was told that the restaurant stays open much later and when I came back, I was told its closed, without so much as a 'sorry, for miscommunication' . I want to try their food but it's a little rude to be turned away when you follow their schedule and make special trips.

I've been waiting for a new restaurant to open in this location so was excited to try this. It is an old house converted to a restaurant so the spacing is really neat. The bar is upstairs and has a variety of different tables sizes and styles which I found very inviting. We sat in the bar area for our first visit. Free chips (made in house I believe) and salsa. To drink we had the pomegranate mojito and a jalpendo margarita - both really good but the mojito was definitely the winner. We also ordered the taquitos and pulled chicken mole with rice and beans. These were both so good. Taquitos has plenty of filling (not just crunch tortillas) and topped with beans lettuce and sour cream. The chicken mole is definitely big enough to share in my opinion. Really flavorful and a good consistency. There was a decent amount of people but not crowded so the noise level was just right. A few TVs in the bar area if you wanted to come watch a game. The service was great and we will definitely be coming back!

Delicious! Great family friendly spot with a huge bar upstairs for when we are minus kids. Margaritas are fresh and not sugary sweet, table side guacamole was awesome. Large portions and our picky eaters cleared their plates. We got right in on a Saturday night and service was friendly and quick. A good alternative in Queen Anne to Oaxaca which we love but our kids don't. We will be back for sure, hope they get lots of business.

I've never been disappointed with this place. The service is always great and the portions are just the right amount. The fajitas are my favorite here. The carne asada is a close 2nd though.

Fun decor, attentive staff, and great food. Had the chile verde, and it was delightfully bold and flavorful. Margarita was quite strong. Even got a free bonus of some bean and cheese tostadas along with the usual chips and salsa. Definitely the best Mexican we've had in Seattle.

I would put the the tamale here against any in the city. The vibe of the place is fun and unique! The staff is warm and kind. Try the table side guacamole.

Terrible, incredibly slow service. Staff don't know what the others are doing. They're confused half the time. They need to overhaul their serving system or this place is on the way to closing. Queen Anne diners won't put up with it. Good food and decoration but that all takes a back seat to bad service.

Been to Nanas three times now and have enjoyed it every time. The portions are huge and more then you could ask for in a meal. The servers have all been very attentive very friendly and on top of things. If you want good traditional mexican food over these trendy places then it's the place to go!

  • William T.

Just went and ate there! Our server was very nice. It seems that they are still learning because the restaurant is brand new, but it seems that they are really trying. My girlfriend and I received some free food while waiting for our food. Nachos were good, but a bit pricey, and I might suggest that they add a big plate of nachos to the happy hour to compete with other local Mexican places. Great fun though!

  • Tricia G.

I had brunch there this weekend. This now my favorite brunch place on Queen Anne. The Huevos Rancheros were PERFECTION. My husband ate all of his and started on mine even though they gave us massive plates. Pair the breakfast with their Mexican coffee and you have a perfect lazy Sunday. You'll need a nap after. Delicious food.

  • Ryan B.

Best burritos in Queen Anne. Hands down. Their brunch menu is incredible and priced well. The desayuno enchilada burrito will more than fill you up. Hungover? Get the chilaquilas con pollo. Instantly cured. Happy hour food is fresh, tasty and affordable. Margaritas are strong and delicious. The decor and feel is authentic and homey. The patio is amazing on a sunny day. Wish I could eat here everyday. We used to go to the Queen Anne cafe for their breakfast burrito. Luckily, one day the wait was too long so we tried the new Nana's and we were blown away. Burritos are less expensive than Queen Anne cafe and more options. And just better. I don't understand why this place isn't packed every day. It's still a hidden gem I guess. Get in while it's still relatively unknown and there's no wait!

    (5)
  • Kat F.

I've only gone to this gem once so far, but I know I'll be making many more visits. The food is amazing, portions are huge, and service is great! Decor and atmosphere is awesome.. When the last restaurant there closed-- I couldn't wait to see what would open. Nana's could not be better! After spending 2 weeks in Playa Del Carmen for the holidays, I can honestly say Nana's has better, more authentic Mexican food than anywhere I went in Mexico!

  • Kathryn G.

I thought I would wait a few weeks to try this place, but I was still very disappointed. The service was incredibly slow and very disorganized from the time we were seated to the time we got our check. We waited so long for the check we had to get up to ask for it. The burrito was very tasty but the drinks left a lot to be desired. The margaritas tasted like they had no alcohol in them at all. For $10, this should not be the case! When I asked what kind of tequila was used it was a brand I had never heard of. When I looked it up it was an incredibly cheap kind- not good for a Mexican place that wants to be competitive in a place like Queen Anne. We won't be returning anytime soon even though we live a couple blocks away.

  • Brian D.

I want this place to be great and it has the potential, just need to work in the following (I know it a new restaurant, but they need to perfect the following): -Menu - while it is decent, they need more selection (Fajitas?), I go to Mexican restaurants for variety, seem to be lacking here. -Food - Queso fundido needs work, a lot of work. Food needs more flavoring with less salt -Service - wait staff seemed rushed and forgetful. This made me feel anxious while eating. I suggest that management break up the serving areas into quadrants/rooms. Our server was waiting tables outside and inside. I think if Nana's takes the feedback from reviews and executes on it, they can be wry successful. FYI - giving 3 stars because I believe they have a lot potential and are close to being on par with the other Mexican restaurants on the hill.

  • Katani E.

We've been here twice, and the first time was good, tonight was great. The service was excellent, the first visit reminded me of Arizona where no one expects prompt service, and the food choices were excellent. We shared a Caliente Molcajete Bowl which had steak, chicken, and shrimp and is a slightly spicy tomato seasoning, and plenty of sides. Our daughters had the chicken tacos and loved them. Everyone had the fried ice cream and churros, which when mixed together, are even better. The portions may be too big, or we ate too many chips first, either way more leftovers for us.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
