It's so funny reading the negative reviews about Matt's... I mean, come on - Matt's is a freakin' hot dog stand. Nothing about its appearance should lead you to believe any differently. They do hot dogs and chili dogs and they do them very well thank you very much. OK, enough of that... on to the review. Matt's is another Seattle landmark that I've driven by dozens of times, but all of those times were before or after lunch. So this week on the very first 70 degree day of 2014, I decided to make Matt's Famous Chili Dogs a destination. It truly was everything I hoped for in a hot dog. Fresh ingredients, friendly and quick service and cheep. Sure you can go to 7-11 and get a cheeper hot dog, but they're just not the same. After reviewing the fairly extensive menu board I chose the Chicago Dog... in my naive opinion, it had the perfect amount of mustard, peppers, relish with a crispy dill pickle spear balancing everything out. Granted I've never had a dog in Chicago, but the friend I was with said it held up pretty well to the real deal. Now for my my favorite... the half order of Matt's chili n' cheese fries that I had on the side. The menu board description said they were so good "you may want to marry them", well guess what... I whole heartedly agree. The fries were the crispy shoestring cut with just the right amount of Matt's delicious chili (no beans), and topped off with a sprinkling of shredded cheddar. Every bite was perfection. So I gave Matt's 4 out of 5 stars... only because this was my first experience at a full time hot dog joint. I travel to Chicago in a couple of weeks and once I have a real Chicago dog I may come back and adjust my rating. Nevertheless, Matt's is the real deal hot dog stand in Seattle's Georgetown Neighborhood. Give it a try!

My Chicago dog was RIGHT ON! With a sport pepper too!!! I swear to god every place in Seattle that makes a "CHICAGO DOG" uses a fucking BRIOCHE bun (AHEM PO'DOG). WTF is that! You cannot do that. Matt's uses a real bun and they do it right. The relish is perfectly green. The white onions is crunchy. The dog has the right amount of resistance when biting into it. And again. That sport pepper. Oh and GEEEZ the chili fries? Damn. I love this place. Im so glad someone does the Chicago dog right.

This place is a MUST for all HOTDOG lovers! So, so so good! If you go earlier in the DAY, Matt is usually there!! Most of the dogs are prepared fresh right in front of your very HOTDOG loving eyes! I have not tired the burgers get but then again this is a hotdog place right? I love that he has those on the menu as well! Place is small though make sure if you go it's not at the lunch RUSH!

I've been patronizing Matt's stand since the early 80's and have always looked forward to getting a Chicago Dog when I'm in the area. The dogs pop, the jalapeno peppers sizzle and Matt's positive attitude, after all of these years, makes this one of my favorite lunches in the city.

Chicago dogs!! These are a must at Matt's. They might look small but are awesome. I will always stop by whenever I can. With there was one up north

I convinced my daughter that I NEEDED a hot dog. So I googled Matt's place. I grew up in Chicago and have consumed 100's of dogs. I ordered the Chicago Dog with fries and a drink. I asked if he was Matt and he confirmed that. I told him I was from Chicago and asked if he had heard of Portillo's (large Chicago chain), he said he had. I mentioned that Portllo's started in a small location like his and now has 25+ locations. Matt was very friendly. Well let's get back to the dog. My Chicago Dog was awesome and the fries were perfect. It was spot on. My daughter now has a place to take her dog craving friends which is the best find for someone who wants to go to a Diners Drive ins and Dived, kind of place. The place is a real sleeper in Seattle. Not Sleepless in Seattle. Good job Matt.

Best hotdogs in Seattle hands down. If anyone finds a better dog I will buy.

You might not think that a great hot dog is hard to find, believe me it is. After driving by Matt's World Famous for a couple of years, I finally stopped to try it out. At the time of writing this review, this is my second time in one week having hot dogs here. The dogs are perfect! They snap, they taste great, and the ingredients hold true to the regions they are named for. Try the Chicago dog. Have the slaw dog. When you come back have a double cheeseburger. It is all delicious. Thank you Matt! Thank you for taking hot dogs seriously. Because, believe me, hot dogs can go wrong fast. Matt's World Famous are done right. Try this place!

Epic Chicago and chili dogs, real hot dogs that snap, small spot but amazing dogs. You have to appreciate the neon relish, poppyseed bun, and premium quality meat they use. The chili is the best

I love Matt's! I've been going to this location since 1998 or so and it's always a treat. I'm from Chicago, so I have I standards when it comes to misc. pig meat in the shape of a wiener. Matt used to serve Vienna Beef, but came up with his own blend which tastes great. I think if Matt could just relocate to the end of the runway at Boeing Field, I'd be there every day! In a land of sheep who think Costco serves up the best dog in town, go see Matt... you won't be dissapointed.

I'm just back from a trip to LA, CA and if you're familiar with original Tommy's Burgers in LA you will have a hard time distinguishing the taste difference between Matt's Chili Cheeseburger (with everything) and Tommy's. I'm not saying it's exact but it's so very very close and close enough where I will no longer order Tommy's chili to be shipped to me from time to time or fly to LA with a visit to Tommy's being a priority reason for the trip. Matt is a very personable guy who seems to be always there and cares about each customer. I really have to chuckle at some reviews that are negative about the interior of the place......It's a HOT DOG stand!!!! I've never had a let down eating the Chili Cheese Dogs (with everything). My only regret about Matt's is that they are not open on the weekends.....

Me and my lady had a great meal for a low price today in seattle at matts. Wow. A great snap to the dog. A nice soft steamy warm bun. A chicago style polish sausage to die for and seriously great chili fries. Add a little mystard on the top and theyre magical. Thanks matts for a great lunch. We will be back.

I grew up in California eating hot dogswienerschnitzel hot dogs I've been out of California for the past 7 years and when I drove past this place I was so happy to see a small little chilly dog place I was under the impression it was going to have some tasty chili and some good dogs... went in and my god was I disappointed. The chili was bland, hot dog was boiled and rubbery and the fries were burnt all for about 8 or 9 bucks. The kitchen was also extremely filthy. The good news is I found out that there's a Wienerschnitzel in everette. I say this place is a fail. You can get a better hot dog from a street cart in Belltown

Matt's is great, I used to be a regular at their Kirkland location(since closed) I forgot about this one and just happened by it...It's just, classic. Chicago dog, Chili dog with cheese and a regular fry and you are in a good place...It's cool to see the owner behind the counter every time I come in too...This place is busy at lunch time but it's worth the wait... If you like a good hot dog there isn't a better place in Seattle as far as I know...

    (4)
  • Angelo S.

Mediocre at best. Because it was located in the sodo district I thought I was going to get a real authentic genuine hot dog. The sign outside gave me the impression that the establishment was around for a long time and one of those mom and pop hole in the walls. Service was really fast. Borderline too fast. My cousin ordered a matt dog and it came out within 30 seconds of paying. I ordered the chicago style polish dog and that was alright. My hot dog felt luke warm and the bread was really soft. It was almost as if the hot dog was going to fall right through the bread. Flavor wise it didn't impress me that much. Lots of classic toppings on my hot dog, but that wasn't enough for it to make it taste any better.

Matt gets 4 out of 5 stars... mostly because when I think of a hot dog joint, his place is almost exactly what I have in mind: nothing too fancy; a good natural casing dog; a tasty roll; and hurried but friendly service. I've recently moved to the Seattle area (from DC via Denver) and I lived in Chicago. There is nothing like a good Chicago hot dog -- Vienna Beef, steamed poppy seed roll, sport peppers, etc., and definitely no ketchup. I came to Matt's today because it's relatively close to work... and it's National Hot Dog Day! As I eluded to, the ambiance of the place is perfect: it's hole-in-the-wall kind of joint, shoe-horned into a bustling industrial area -- with semi-trucks roaring by... The decor is a few stools with a red counter to sit and look out the window at the dusty industrial playground hard at work. There is also a small picnic table area outside. There are sun-faded photo-shopped pictures of the Matt's stand in famous locations (eg., Monument Valley, Mt. Rushmore, Paris, etc.) that elicit a smile as you wait for the deliciousness. Matt takes your order while someone else is working busily in the back. In terms of the service, he was very friendly and made sure everyone felt attended to, even as they waited in line. I was directly behind someone who placed a large $100+ order for his office co-workers (rather than politely calling ahead). Matt was very kind to him as well as to me and the others in line. Frankly, I've seen workers flustered when this scenario presents itself, but Matt was unflappable and even professional. Well done! As a Chicago hot dog connoisseur, Matt does a reasonable job with the Chicago dog... but it's not a perfect replica of a true Vienna Beef Chicago hot dog. He offers the all-beef, natural casing wiener (nice pop to the casing), neon green relish, the pickle, not quite enough mustard, the onions, the tomato, celery salt, and even two sport peppers (though I prefer at least 3). The only thing missing was the steamed poppy seed bun -- yet the bun he served it on was steamed perfectly and was delicious. Out here in Seattle, I'm not going to complain -- it was darn good, and I will be back to have another. I also purchased a his classic chili dog. Again, the bun was fantastic -- and the ratio of chili to hot dog was just right. I only wished there were a few more onions on the dog, as well as a little mustard. Other than that, it was just what the doctor ordered for National Hot Dog Day. While I love Chicago dogs, I'm also intrigued by a few of the other offerings (although the Seattle dog does not sound very good). I think next time I may try a New York dog... and I heard several people order a Fire dog... so that may also be on the docket. No question I will be back. Matt's is a nothing too fancy, hole-in-the-wall kind of hot dog place -- exactly what this guy needed to find. See you soon, Matt!

One of my all time favorites. Matt has gone to special lengths to make sure the quality of his ingredients are top notch. The search for the best pastrami. Don't worry...he did all the work. The chili sauce is awesome. I followed Matt's all over the place and make a special trip down there to get the best dogs and sandwiches around.

  • Joshua L.

Delicious! Ordered a chili dog, my wife had a bacon cheeseburger, and we shared an order of chili cheese fries and a chocolate shake. All was very good, prices were reasonable, and service was quick and friendly!

  • Michael P.

Matt do you still run this place? Reading the reviews and looking at the awesome sign as I drove by I had to try this place. The inside was dimly lit, very small only enough room to stand. Peeking my head into the kitchen it didn't look that clean. I ordered the Matt's Chilli dog and the New Yorker. Both hot dogs looked like a baby pooped on them. It was the most depressing hotdog I've ever seen. There was a quote on the menu that said the fries were so good that you would want to marry them. Well I ordered a small and they were over salted and nothing special. I'd agree with another reviewer that said this place is "Mediocre at best". I'll upload a few photos of what I got so you can see that it didn't look like anything that everyone else posted.

This place ROCK's!!!! Half the people rating this place dont have CLUE and really have no clue how to rate. Yelp needs an "your and idiot" button. This is a top notch little dive with absolutely the best food for the price. Score 5 in all areas.. Clean place, great service, great food choices and priced right! If your craving dogs or burgers.... this is it ... hands down!

  • Mallory M.

Matts gets 5 out of 5 because 9 out of 10 times everything is great. The hot dogs are wonderful and the burgers are good but sometimes a bit salty. I had a milkshake once and lets just say it wasn't the best, but that is an easy fix, mix the chocolate in more! The prices are really good. For those of you who say you would rather go to Costco, you must not know the importance of supporting a local business. I would support this guy over a large corporation any day, keep it up Matt!

    (5)
  • Janet C.

This was the worst Hot Dog I've had in years. The bun was so soft and wet with the Chili it was disgusting. The chili tasted like canned for sure, and the "hot" dog wasn't even hot........really horrible. It came up so fast the dog had surely been sitting cooked for hours and just thrown on the grill for maybe a second. Never again.

Dangerous when you're hungry and craving a chili dog! Located south of downtown, this small hot dog stand is good for takeaway. I preferred those bought at Costco but these were a welcome change. Good chili and pleasant staff there. Hit them up if you're in the Georgetown and enjoy!

  • Mary M.

It ain't Original Tommy's, but it's the closest thing I've found for 1,200 miles. The chili is great. Love me a Fire Dog and a mess of their chili-cheese fries!

  • Michael K.

Still 4 stars, but it would appear that they are no longer "importing" the true Vienna Beef hot dogs nor the Mary Ann poppy seed buns which are a staple for a "true" Chicago-style hot dog. I believe they are now using the same hot dogs that they use for their New York style. It is understandable for a business to consolidate it's supply chain, but still unfortunate as nothing tastes quite like the real deal. So still 4 stars in my opinion, just not quite as authentic as they once where. Might bump them up to 5 star rating if they added a Maxwell Street bone-in pork chop sandwich that tasted like the ones you get on W 31st street. THe smell of the grilled onions alone would attract throngs of eager diners.

I was supposed to meet somebody for dinner this past Friday, but was so hungry a couple hours beforehand, I had to have something to tide me over. Since it had been over a year since I had last been to Matt's - and a hot dog sounded just right - I pulled in. Everything seemed the same, including the welcome mat hung over a beam in the kitchen that simply said, "Hi, I'm Mat." Like previously, I ordered the Chicago hot dog. But this time around, the wiener was a much better quality. It also seems like it had grown in size! The chilled refreshing condiments that were added- diced white onion, relish, jalapeños and mustard made this an absolutely delish dog!

    (4)
  • Michael M.

WAY over priced for what you get. For $3.96 I got a tiny hot dog "Chicago Dog". It was on a lame over-processed white bun. You can buy a package of 15 hotdogs for $9 at Costco. Sorry Matt's, but I will not be coming back. The most I would pay for that Chicago Dog is $2.00. Hell, I can get a huge dog at Costco for $1.50 and it includes a drink.

This was my 1st visit to this location. You might wonder why I would say that when this is the only location. Well, 10 years ago, I ate at the Bellevue location and a year of so later I ate at the Renton location. Kinda hard to be famous when you can't keep locations open. That said, on my previous visits, I had Chicago Style dogs. They had a snap to them and the relish and topping were fresh and flavorful. I have to admit, I'm not a hot dog fan, but Matt does it better than anyone else I've had. That said, that's for hot dogs. I love Hot Links and the Italian Hot from Frankfurter is a guilty pleasure. I think Matt should venture into this territory, but when asked, he advised that his customer don't like their sausage hot. Nonetheless, today I tried the burger, I guess I should have known for $4 that a double bacon cheeseburger would not be hearty. The patties were super thin, they didn't even look as big as the patties on a Mc Double. I had to look under the bun for the bacon because I couldn't taste it and honestly, it was so thin, I could see right through it. The good news is the food was hot, fresh and served with a smile, the down side to the entire menu is that the portions are small. Doubt I will be back, but don't let that stop you from trying. Matt appears to be an honest guy trying to make an honest buck, but when you got great food for a fair price, people come. So he is going to need to make his portions filling for a fair price is he ever decided to expand again.

Matt's Dogs are really good but its just a hot dog so giving it more than 3 stars is hard for me. I mean, my Chicago hot dog was dog but I rather have a Nathan dog. And speaking of Nathan's, ya know how great their fries are??? Well, I cant same the same for Matt's UNLESS you love salt! Not my thing! The "Lady K" had a burger and it was nothing really to write home about... Ya know, I would go back because the food was OK and for the little cash (a good thing!) it was worth it!

Took two teens and 4 year old, plus husband and everyone had fun and left full. Teen one had two bacon cheeseburgers, I had chili dog and hamburger, other teen had chili dog too. Nice basic hot dog stand with basic burgers and really nicely done fries. Super friendly service. Great stop before the Museum of Flight.

I like this place! The owner is always there and he is very nice and personable. I thought the place was cheap and the burgers are delish. I always enjoy coming to this place.

I ordered a lot here because my eyes were more hungry than my belly. lol. I ordered a matts chili dog, double bacon cheeseburger spiked, two pickles, a vanilla shake, TJ chili fries and a large Dr Pepper. It was for me and my boyfriend. He really liked the chili dog, i loved my burger and the FRIES WERE AWESOME. Super delicious! Pickles were good too. I shouldve ordered one because theyre huge like the size of a large cucumber. It tasted fresh and made with love. The chili was really good, nice balance of texture, flavor and consistency with the rest of the dog. The burger was really good as well, didnt taste over cooked but just right, the bun was soft and a little toasted just how i like it. The vanilla shake was yummy, smooth and good. But man i was loving those fries, since i ordered to go, i had to put my chili fries together so i took a couple bites of the fries by it self, perfectly seasoned. if any of you guys are craving some fries you should get it here, its nice and crispy and flavorful. doesnt taste like only salt, there must be another seasoning on it. But i will be there again soon, i want to try their Chicago Dog.

The slaw dog (chili and coleslaw) is amazing, and there's nothing else like it. It's hard to find a good dog in Seattle but this is the place. The chili is delicious and very unique, it doesn't have a strong chili powder flavor and isn't chunky, it's almost a completely different thing, rich and smooth. It was clearly developed specifically to be put on dogs. I recommend all of their dogs, i'd skip the burgers, and l am excited to try their variety of sausages and italian beef sandwiches. Matt himself is always there running the front counter giving great service.

  • Ani K. O.

Two stars only for being nice. Hot dog tiny. Bun nasty. Hot dog something an 11 year old would make. NY's condiments looked like Gerber baby food. 7-11 hot dog better and cheaper. Rip off.

    (2)
  • Aaron D.

I took my girl friend and her brother out for lunch here yesterday. The counter person was rude. It seemed expensive but I figured it would be worth it. It wasn't. 4 soggy small nasty weiners. Nasty 7 11 cheese sauce. Nasty canned chili. Nasty Costco buns. What a joke. I feel ripped off. They could at least make their own chili and cheese sauce. Just a completely foul experience. I will not be back. I can make soggy steamed chili dogs out of a can at my house for 5 dollars. My suggestion. Find someone who can cook and make them do their job.

I've been going to Matt's for over 10 years. Stopped by because I was in the neighborhood and, boy, was it depressing. I am used to a line snaking out the door at lunchtime. Nobody. Except for two extremely bored looking workers behind the counter. My Chicago style was pretty good, other than the Mrs. Baird's white bread style bun (what happened to poppy seed?). For the $3.50+ with tax, I don't get it, when a very filling $5.00 Subway footlong is two blocks away. I left starving and forlorn. Compare my visit to a wayward first date where the smell of desperation is thick in the air. In other words, Matt (who I assume is now flying a desk someplace), please either come back to work there ("Hi. I'm Mat."), or shutter the place. It's just too sad.

  • Naurry K.

I'll gladly take a $1.50 Costco dog (with drink) but find it lacking -- I miss the accoutrements of a classic Chicago dog: mustard, onions, pickle spear, hot peppers, celery salt and the iconic radioactive-green relish on a poppy seed bun. Their chili reminds me a lot of Tommy's of LA -- indecently delicious with minimal flavor and extra grease. They perfectly accompany dogs, Fritos and fries with a massive sprinkling of cheese and onions. Many of the Matt's locations have closed (believe you me, I've scoured the Greater Seattle area looking for them) and the only one left within city limits is this one. All in all it's appropriate, a shack on a busy street with semi-trucks whizzing by and picnic tables for the few non "to-go" eaters. I'm forever indebited to Matt's for introducing me to the worst food in America. (One day I'll try the Chicago dog in Chicago.)

    (5)
  • Zach G.

Matt's hot dogs are pretty good (coming from someone who's not a hot dog fan in general), and while their chili could use a little something, it is still good. I will definitely go back again, the food was pretty good for the area, and I would rather eat this than a Costco dog (Costco dog's aren't bad either).

  • Ceci I.

The food was okay.. I wouldn't say it was the best hot dog ever. The turkey dog was small and I really don't think it's worth 4 dollars. My fiancé ordered the ultimate tj chili fries? It was not a chili cheese fries! Chef Gordon Ramsey would be appalled! Essentially, it comes in its own little container and you just pour the cheese, and chili, over your fries. He says it's good but it's not a chili cheese fries. I don't think I am going back there any time soon..Thanks Mat.

  • Deborah S.

My father is from Brooklyn, NY, so I take his word for it that these are some darn good dogs. We always go, every day, when he comes to visit. Just wish there was a little more room in and out of the joint. The french fries are perfect.

    (4)
  • Jake M.

Is there another place in Seattle that will serve you a hot dog with cream cheese on it? Seriously, I don't think so. Matt's has old fashioned hot dogs that actually snap when you sink your teeth in to them. It ain't real food, but it is real good when you are in the mood.

    (5)
  • Colleen W.

I ordered the Chicago dog. I'd say it earned the A-OK snack award. On the plus side: "authentic" neon green relish, celery salt, sport pepper & pickle However... The meat tube was average. The bun was average. (small and unseeded) Cost: ~$3.75 Was it worth it? Meh. I've recently been to Chicago so I can't say this quite cut it. It was a little too wimpy to go back for time and time again. If you can't force yourself to fight through Georgetown Costco parking for their $1.50 polish, get your dogs here. They're quick.

  • David E.

Finally got a chance to try Matt's Hot Dogs and was a little disappointed. I ordered the Chicago Dog and fries. I got the bag and it felt very light. I will say the fries are very good, crispy on the outside , but the dog was a little disappointing. The hot dog seemed to be a regular hotdog dressed up as a Chicago dog. It did look good and it did taste good. What was disappointing was what I paid for a pretty small hotdog.

  • Miss Kelly W.

Ok - so as far as close eats to work that I can stomach - this place is pretty cool. It's a little shack on East Marginal - barely enough room for maybe 6 people to stand and a little backed up depending on how many people made it in before you did. The prices are great - 2.99 for a decent dog or burger.. little more depending on what you order - but don't expect gargantuan servings. It's a quick little snackie type thing for those on the go. Chili is thick and beanless (yum), fries are average americana fare. All in all, a suitable hot dog shack but I'd still probably favor one of the late night vendors down by the stadiums or on the pub crawls ;)

  • Robert B.

With all apologies to the fine chain of 'Frankfurter' stands, Matt's in simply the best hot dog stand in Seattle! The chili dogs and Chicago dogs are my favorites, but they have a wide variety of other dogs, sandwiches, tamales, and even burgers now. The location and ambience is humble, which is tre apropos for a hot dog. Jeff G. sums it up best in his review why this location particularly 'works'. Matt is truly a local boy made good. Go soon & go often!

Been a fan going on 20 years. I know dogs and this place is as good as anywhere in our country. Matt's beef franks snap when you bite. His buns are steamed, His staff is polite. It will cheer you up on a bad day. 5 star winner.

  • Sacha D.

I love Matt's. The dogs SNAP. And they taste good. And they have yummy stuff on them. The buns are like soft, fluffy clouds. My kiddo and I walk around the G'town neighborhood and one time didn't have quite enough money to feed the both of us, so the guy there took what we had. So nice. The service is fast. They recently added a tent over their outside tables, which makes eating there in the winter a lot easier. The fries are really really good - good enough that sometimes we just go get them by themselves. I love the working-class aesthetic when we go there. We are usually sharing the counter with contractors and construction workers. No snobbery here. My one significant complaint, the ketchup. They have some sort of cheap ketchup in packets, it squeezes out like some sort of red jelly-like substance and it's really bad. Wish they'd just put out for the Heinz, or raise their prices a little and give us good ketchup. Overall I do love Matt's.

This place is retro awesome. I found myself on an unexpected field trip with students to South Seattle Community College and needed.a fast lunch. I was pleasantly surprised. It reminded me of a small Zippy's. I had a bacon cheeseburger, fries, and a huge diet Coke. I.am telling everyone about my experience. If you find yourself in this hood (I do mean hood lol) check it!

Sometimes all you really want to eat is a CHILI DOG. And if you're down here on Marginal Way in south Seattle, there's this one place where you can get as good a chili dog as you're ever likely to find in this town--"Matt's Famous Chili Dogs"! Recession prices, lay-down-your-money and take-your-dog service, places to park your cars, places to sit down inside (a half-dozen stools) and outside (picnic tables galore), and then there's the friendly staff, including smilin' Matt himself. You really can't ask for more, can you?

How it took me 3 effin' years to realize this place was just on the other side of 509 from where I work, I will never know. None of that really matters now that I've found Matt and his Famous Dogs. It's a small place, but there are picnic tables outside and a bit of seating inside if you want to eat in. It's very simple, and that's part of what I love - here's the rest: Great hot dogs? check. Crispy delicious fries? check. Reasonable prices? check. Friendly fast service? check. They also have super cheap burgers ($2-3) and some really tasty looking shakes, y'all. Check 'em out Monday through Friday 10AM-8PM. P.S. The website seems to be down, but the selections are pretty standard and they do include vegetarian/vegan friendly options.

4 stools, tiny counter, room for standing pretty much only. Soft buns, bland chili, hot dogs smaller than you'd expect for the price.

Once in a while I do my duty as an American, and down a dog. This is always while traveling, and the reasons are more cultural than culinary. Matt's rules!.... I put them up with some of the best, snappiest dogs ever. The poppy seed bun was awesome, and the neon green relish was icing on the cake... I'll be back.

The fries were good, as were the hot dogs, but not great. The Chicago dog was good with a very fresh bun and tasty toppings. The kraut dog was good but lacking in flavor. It too had a very fresh bun. I'll go back just to taste the other hot dog offerings. It was a cold day, too cold to eat in the tent set up outside the stand. It was standing room only.

This is a solid four and a half star dog stand. It gets five on the review because tie goes to runner and Matt was working the counter when I came in. I asked what was good and sat down to a chili-cheese dog, half-order of cheese fries and a small straberry shake. Dog was great, bun fresh and perfectly steamed, chili good, fries crispy and shake was handmixed, just like 1950's style, all for 8 bucks. Matt is an afficianado and could write an authoritative article about the 125 best hot dog stands in the USA and that's the kind of guy I want cooking my next meal.

I've tried almost every dog/sausage you can get here. They are all damn good, my favorite being the Chicago. I have concluded though that the 3AM Dog, is only good at 3AM from a sidewalk cart down in Belltown. It is NOT the one you should be eating for lunch. I love this location because Matt is always there at lunch. When the founder is working at a spot you know it's going to be the best that it can be. The fries are awesome too, crunchy on the outside and soft and hot on the inside. I try to always get a shake. I just wish it could be a little bit cheaper. Some of my lunches are over $10, so Matt's is only a once every other week type of lunch destination for me. Costco dogs being as good as they are, whenever I'm there at lunch I always think what could have been if we were at Matt's.

First visit since 1996. At that time was moderately impressed by the Italian Beef - it was ALMOST legit, but the tiny portion disappointed. This visit it was awful - really, really awful. At least as measured against a Chicagoan's idea of what a beef should be. The kids loved their hot dogs though, and the vanilla shakes were quite good.

Cheap and delicious. Wish I'd known about this place a long time ago. Best short-order burgers I've had in Seattle (yes, better than Red Mill or Zippy's).

In town from Boston for work and this place is down the road from our office. Great selection of dogs and burgers and it taste pretty good too. Also, they make a pretty mean chocolate shake. On top of it the prices are reasonable too. Thanks for the experience.

If you're looking for gourmet dining, you probably got extremely lost or are in the advanced stages of macular degeneration. Matt's is all about classic americana junk food. I've literally tried every dog, and they're great. Seriously. Old-fashioned chicago style is where it's at though (about $3.50, give or take). For those who haven't stopped by in a while, Matt now serves various fashionings of hamburgers that rival the hot dogs in all-out tastocity. If you're familiar with In-n-out burgers, these will be familiar. Plus, a bacon cheeseburger for under $3??? You have to love that. His fries are killer, the shakes are good...it's hard not to love. It sounds like he's going to be staying open a bit later during the week, so people in the Georgetown area, Beacon Hill, West Seattle, etc. can venture out for a new dinner option. Thanks Matt!

Years ago I used to work in the E. Marginal area and it was a treat to stop into Matt's every now and then for a Chicago style dog. So it was with anticipation that I stopped by today. I ordered a Polish dog Chicago style and a coke. Order in hand I happily went to my car to devour my delicious treat. The first thing I noticed was the over abundance of mustard and onions. I wiped some of the excess off and took my first bite. It was awful. The dog was way undercooked. I was just sad. I took the dog back to the counter person. I showed her the inside and asked "is this cooked?" She mumbled "yes" and my heart sank. I knew it was futile to try to explain why I thought it wasn't or to even ask her to please make another one. Frankly, I didn't have time for that. I left the dog with her stating "that it was just really, really bad and not cooked" Now I know in the grand scheme of the world this is just a hot dog, and I'm just one customer out of hundreds....but dang, put some effort and pride into whatever it is that you do. Matt's Hot Dogs used to rock. This was just sad, mediocre and would have made me sick to eat it. Won't be going back ever again.

Hidden away in the industrial wastelands of south Seattle lies a branch of Matt's Famous Chili Dogs. Like the other reviewers, this was the first of the Matt's chain of hot dog stands I'd ever been to. Seattle isn't known for it's hot dogs, however Matt's is trying to bring in a little of the east side of the Rockies over here. The hot dogs from Matt's don't just stop at sauerkraut and mustard. They have neon green relish, and little peppers on top and onions and tomato slices on em...depending on which dog you get of course. They also make a Frito Pie. If you've never tried this heart stopping concoction, it's basically fritos covered in chili with onion. Lord help your co-workers if you come back after having one of those babies for lunch....

I grew up watching cop shows and one of the things I always liked was the moment when the cop and his partner would walk up to a hot dog cart, tell the guy (he always wore gloves and a scarf) they wanted the regular and then have a loud argument about how they were going to take down their perp. So hot dogs have always held a certain mystique for me. Safe to say, Seattle isn't really a cool cop, hot dog cart down. But I could imagine Kojak coming to this appropriately divey, warehouse district location while he contemplates the case of the Central Park Stabber. Matt's Dog's are always good. I prefer the Chicago Style with the neon green relish and the sport pickle. I can imagine myself working a big case while I wait for Huggy Bear to show up with some hot intel on the next shipment of dope from the Big Man.

great hotdogs! they had a nice crunch to them. we ordered the slaw dog, matts chili dog, and the 3am dog. oh! and chili fries with onions and jalapenos. i wasnt a big fan of the chili, but everything else was great. we met matt. he's a very nice, down to earth guy! there is outdoor seating and as for indoor seating... there is none.. BUT theres a little railing you can stand over and eat your goodies on. looks like they have a restroom there, but i didnt get a chance to check it out. overall, great hotdogs and great service! i definitely am coming back for more!!

The good: Friendly and clean. Cool looking little hot dog stand. Good lunch crowd of laborers at lunch time. The fries are really good. Perfectly hot and crispy. The bad: Bland. Really bland. How do you make chili bland? No flavor. Had it on a chili dog and chili fries. Horrible chili. The ugly: My shake was just bland, flavorless soft serve in a cup. No mixing just dumped onto a cup.My hot dog was covered in onions. So many that it probably had more onions by weight than hot dog. The "gourmet hot dog" was small and again...flavorless. All this was 12$. Never again.

Best dogs ever (they pop when you bite into them)! My daughter asks to come here at least once a week just for the Chili Cheese Fries. Matt's makes their own chili and it really is fascistic! I have been coming to Matt's for over 15 years and will be coming here for another 15!

Lunch today with my old buddy Curtis. I followed his lead and ordered the Chicago style Polish Dogs (2 ea.) Excellent choice! Matt (the owner) remembered Curtis and treated him like an old friend which is pretty cool. Great experience great dogs. For hot dogs tis place rocks

Tiny little hole in the wall place, but their sign did catch my eye as I was driving by for a meeting. I told my coworker we would be stopping by to eat after we were done. It's small, very small. Only standing seating on the inside and outdoor seating are two picnic tables. The service was great. The guy who took our order was extremely friendly and very helpful when it came to choosing from the menu. The food was good. Not blow your socks off great, but it hit the spot. I got the slaw dog, it was a regular hot dog topped with chili, coleslaw and cheese. Went down pretty easy. We also got a side of fries, which reminded me of McDonalds fries just not as salty. I don't think I'll go out of my way just to get a chili dog from here, but if I'm in the area again for another meeting I'll make sure to stop by to try something else on their menu.

Walked in here on a beautiful sunny Friday, with high hopes of tasting a yummy hotdog and some fries... Sadly, I was a bit let down, as well as my tummy. Stumbled across this place from Yelp reviews and given how it was pretty close to where I work, I figured a stop by here was a must. Ordered the Chili dog + cheese fries and it wasn't as delicious as I thought it would be. The chili on the dog was a bit bland and not too memorable. Also, the hot dog seem a lot smaller than I thought it would be, based on the pictures I saw. As for the cheese fries, it didn't taste too stellar since the cheese wasn't too fully melted and the texture of it reminded me of pre made cheese in a can, like the type you use for nachos. Overall, food was alright, plenty of parking, fast service and reasonably priced food items. Plus, there is outside seating which is pretty nice.

Awesome place!!! Really cheap prices the double cheese Niger which was amazing was only 3.80. None of their burgers are 6.99 like other places. Will do definately going back here

Have you ever wanted to like a place, but it didn't meet your expectations? Overall, Matt's Famous Chili Dogs is OK, but the food could've been better. It serves All-American fare in a small shack in Georgetown and from outside appearances, it has a type of charm that's hard to deny. The customer service was pleasant, and the girl behind the counter seemed nice. We ordered a Matt's Chili dog (~$3.60), Chili Cheeseburger (~$4), & an order of regular fries (~$2) to-go. --French Fries: The best part of the meal - Hot, crunchy and salted just right. --Matt's Chili Dog: The chili wasn't very hearty. It was also runny and was more like hot sauce than a chili. The hot dog was also rubbery and the bun was too soft and mushy. --Chili Cheese Burger: The chili was too messy on top of the burger, and the mustard and chili combo wasn't as tasty as hoped. If they change up their menu or how they prepare their food, I might come back. For now, I might skip it and try other places with tastier eats with the same costs.

Chili was slightly sweet yet had a bite to it. Loved the chili chips and the polish sausage.

Really good food at a reasonable price. I had the Chicago Dog and the New York Dog. Both were amazingly good. The hot dog themselves are some of the best around. (A friend what's to just buy the hot dogs for home and so do I.) The toppings must be homemade because the are so good (the onion relish is a must try). Not so sure about the lime green jello color of the pickle relish but once you get past the nuclear waste color you realize the color doesn't matter when it tastes so good on the Chicago Dog. My only real criticism is the cheddar cheese for the French fries. Its just grated cheddar, great on a hotdog but it doesn't really melt on to the fries. The fries are prefect. Also the chili isn't what I would make at home (mostly tomato paste and bean paste I am guess with little meat) but on the fries and the hot dogs it works just right. Matt has some great signs and fun promotions as well.

A week and a half of living in Seattle, my new home and searching for some quality Chicago fast food...my last meal before my drive from my native Franklin Park, Illinois was a single and double dog from Gene and Judes. While job searching at South Seattle College this displaced academic came across Matt's. I ordered the Chicago dog and spicy Polish sausage and while it is not Gene and Judes or Carm's it isn't too bad, pretty close facsimile, closer to Carm's for you UIC/Little Italy Near West Siders. Vienna Beef product, real hot dog bun not some fancy French thing which seems prevalent here in the PNW. I'll be back though no weekend hours and shuts down at 8 PM...clearly we aren't in Chicago anymore but this is a taste of home in this blue collar section of Seattle here in Georgetown.

My second experience was pretty depressing. I ordered 2 hot dogs with mustard & relish to go...then I get home and they have ketchup and mustard. I HATE KETCHUP ON HOT DOGS! [I'm from Chicago after all]. Being a grown woman, I decided I'd try to suffer through it. [Fail] Should a person really suffer through eating a hot dog? Methinks not. You can do so much better, Matt's. Suggestion: Listen & write more clearly.

I've always driven by this place and have even eaten across the street at Katsu Burger but never ventured in here. This hot dog place has been here for some time and I finally stopped in. I wasn't sure what to expect so I ordered a hot dog with onions and cream cheese and a strawberry shake. For some reason, I was expecting the dog to be bigger and not your usual store bought one (I was thinking Costco dogs) and was a bit disappointed. Prices are fairly decent and my strawberry shake was good. The guy working behind the counter was really nice too. I'd come here again if I was in the area and wanted a milkshake fix and/or hot dog fix (if I don't have my Costco card on me), but other than that, I don't see myself coming here that often. I feel like a lot of locals stop by here, especially people who work in the area.

Love this place! I go on lunch at work and it's amazing. I have tried a lot of things, but the 3 a.m. dog is what really makes me happy. It's basically a Seattle dog. Cream cheese and onions. Also, I have never liked a chili dog anywhere but here. Normally they are terribly messy and huge and difficult to eat. At Matt's they are easy to eat and delicious. The cheese fries are awesome too. At the end of the day, the quality of the hot dogs is amazing and what makes them so good. Matt is super nice, which also makes me happy to support his business.

Great Hot Dogs. Lot's of variety. I love the "Chicago Style hot dogs". Something for everyone including veggie and turkey. Hamburgers are good too, give one a try. Great place for lunch. Matt is a great guy who takes pride in serving good food. Lot's more on the menu, check it out: mattshotdogs.com

I, too, am for this location over the others. There's something about eating hot dogs while sitting at a picnic table... Here's where I veer. I'd recommend an assortment of dogs. Go there when you're good and hungry, have two Chicago dogs and a chili dog and you'll be in good shape (emotionally). Unless you're Jason B. and then you'll need to order a half doz to get the job done. The other locations are good in an emergency so rock 'em if you have to.

Damn you Matt's on Marginal for putting heroin or whatever it is that's in your chili that makes me crave it for weeks on end until I show up during the hours you aren't open because I'm stupid and can't remember them and have to cry myself to sleep.

This is the first Matt's I went to. And thus I have fond feelings for it. When I needed my hot dog fix, I could come here. Now, there are a number of Matt's which makes it easier to take care of my hot dog needs. I would say the quality of the food is pretty much the same at each location. I've been to all of them except Totem Lake and I see they have a new one in Renton by Ikea that I need to check out. I pretty much only get the old fashioned. That is what I like. Sometimes with chili and cheese. Sometimes with ketchup and mustard. (I see all the chicago-ites wincing.) Do I think a better hot dog exist in the world? Probably. However, these are darn good and the best hot dog I can get in the "field" when the need is upon me. If you are into hot dogs. Check out a Matt's close to you and see what you think. (Avoid the pastrami sandwich and the tamales if they even still have those.)

Usually the thought of a hot dog sends shivers down my spine. All of those unknown ingredients ground and pressed into an unnatural shape. Matt's makes me forget about all of that. They're priced around $3 and you'll probably want to order at least two. My favorite is the Chicago Dog which others before me have explained in accurate detail. I didn't care much for the New York Dog which has saurkraut and sweet onion relish, but I've never been much for sweet relishes. The Chili Dogs are always great...not too spicy...plenty of chili...and never disappoint my husband's craving. Polish Sausages are delicious as well. Tamales are nothing special for over $4 each. We've had their dogs in downtown Bellevue (before it was demolished for a parking lot), in the U-district and at the Seattle Ferry terminal. Their dogs taste best on a sunny day while taking a ferry across the sound.

a vegetarian reviewing a hot dog stand? oh hell yes, i am. read my lips, people: CHICAGO DOG. even better, it's not a veggie dog, but rather a veggie sausage. and better yet - no need to request it cooked separately - Matt automatically cooks these bad boys in the microwave. a very, very happy girl with a very, very happy tummy.
