Loved this restaurant! All the employees are so sweet and attentive. They give out a free bean tostada appetizer that is delicious. Homeade tortillas and warm chips really make the food feel really authentic. (Try the salsa trio! Delish) Lunch and happy hour specials are great, as well as the full menu! So happy I found this gem so close to home!

Best Mexican food. Thank you yelp for all the great reviews to bring me here! Had carne asada-perfectly seasoned, steak grilled perfect. Rice and beans, yummy. Guacamole, delicious! Service, 5 stars. I couldn't rave more about this place.

My favorite Mexican in Seattle. The homemade tortillas and chips are delicious. I've tried the carne asada (meat melts like butter), arroz con camarones (delicious, spicy, and satisfying), chicken fajitas (yum), and ceviche (-the only miss so far). They have a great happy hour. However, the restaurant is a sauna in the summer, you don't get free chips & salsa outside of happy hour, and the vibe is more bar than restaurant which is weird bc the food is really the highlight. Also, it's cap hill so parking is a bitch. I will definitely be back to try some of my other Mexican favorites!

Get the "torta pollo asado", and thank me later. I'm from California, so probably the second best Mexican food, next to Mexico. It's been hard to find good tasty Mexican food in WA. I've found it in Fogon, and I am so happy I did!!! The HH is amaze-balls. It's everyday 3pm-6pm and 9pm to close. Just go... Stop deciding and just go.

Came here for dinner the other night with a friend and we decided to sit at the bar. Nice looking place, clean, comfortable, good amount of tables for small groups or larger groups. Nice little tortilla grill up front with a lady making fresh tortillas. Bartender was friendly, helpful and personable to chat with. Complimentary tostada was given to each of us. WOW! thanks! It was good and we were eager to check out their menu. We decided to get some chips & guac to start off, chips are freshly made, guac was wonderful with huge chunks of avocado in the bowl. It seems like they just cut the avocado and served it, very fresh and tasty! After a while of filling up on chips, we actually weren't that hungry anymore and decided to share a entree. We got the Chile Colorado that was approved by the bartender as delicious....so we took his advice. He was right, nice chunks of stewed beef with red sauce, onions and peppers. Served with rice & beans and some tortillas, we were good to go. Not overly spicy, but very flavorful and would definitely get it again. I was such in a chill mode, I forgot to take a photo of it. Nice atmosphere, service was fine, real casual, nice looking menu, delicious Mexican food, and a place I would come hang out at.

Maybe the workers were taking it easy because it was hot this Sunday. Regardless, the service wasn't that good. And the food was just alright. But I wanted a place to sit outside in the Capitol Hill area and they have a strong $5 mimosa special. My review is like my experience here, lackluster.

My husband and I visited this place together and EVERYTHING we ordered was amazing. We took park in the drunk special for Thursday, $5 Sangria-yumm! We also orders the Queso Fundito and I was delightfully impressed. The carne asada along with the chilies were flavorfully seasoned and served with warm fresh corn tortillas. I could have just ordered this as a main dish and been extremely happy! Knowing the carne asada was not delicious, I was look forward to the carne asada burrito I also ordered. This thing was massive (enough for two meals) and also well worth it's price. My husbands salad with prawns was also large in size and provided a nice balance to the heavy appetizer. Overall, this place has great ambiance, is well priced, and great specials. We weren't there durning happy hour but I know when we will go back next time!

They first came out with a tostada-type thing with lettuce, black beans, and cheese on top. It was very spicy. I ordered the burrito with meat and cheese. It came with Mexican rice and black beans. The meal was delicious. The chips were good and the guacamole was too. The water was a little warm, though. The staff was nice and the place was okay clean. It was very busy and very noisy (8pm on Sunday)

Service was great, but wow...so-so food. Tortilla soup had 2 pieces of chicken, tacos were as much onion as meat. Avoid, with so much good food in Seattle.

A welcome surprise! Really great happy hour with a fantastic drink and food menu. Generous portions and authentic ingredients including complementary chips and salsa as well as a mini tostada.

I ordered the quesadilla with cheese and an ultimate margarita! Filled me up perfectly, recommend you try it! The staff are really sweet as well.

One of the better late night HH for food I've had in a while. The place can get really busy but the waiters are still super attentive. When we were first sat down, we were given a vegetarian tostada and then moments later we were given chips and salsa. The salsa was thicker in consistency and I really liked that about it. So before we even ordered food we got 2 free dishes. I ordered the chorizo and potato sopitos. You get 3 per order and a sopito is essentially a fried bread taco. The sopitos were pretty big too! Unfortunately I feel like there was more potato than chorizo but for $5 how can I really complain about that. The flavors worked well. It was very slightly spicy but that probably came from the chorizo. Overall, solid place with unexpected freebies.

Cool spot for some good Mexican food and crazy margarita mixes. They start you out with a FREE veggie tostada instead of chips but it's really good. I got the carne asada tacos which were delicious but lacking quality to justify $13 for a plate of 2 tacos. Delicious however. Margaritas range from $8-20 and have $2 off Mondays.

Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 4/5 I've been looking for a place with good Mexican food in Seattle and this place is the best so far! Moving from Texas and leaving behind all the authentic Mexican food and Tex-Mex food was hard... I would describe the food here as Tom Douglas-esque, so not super authentic but really high quality, with thoughtful, fresh ingredients that come together to make a delicious dish. The food and drink menu is super extensive here! The tortillas are handmade and you can see the lady working on them when you first walk in! We had - - Shrimp ceviche: I kind of wish this dish was a litttttle juicier because despite all the juicy ingredients they use (tomatoes, limes etc), it felt a little dry. BUT the flavors were really good. It tasted fresh and refreshing. Its pretty big, we split between four of us and there was plenty for all! - Steak fajitas: This dish was pretty on point. Comes with rice and your choice of beans, a dollop of sour cream and guac and a hefty portion of steak with peppers, onions, and mushrooms. Its cooked in beer, tequila and some other liquor and the flavor is just awesome. The steak can be a little tough though. SECRET: if you can't finish it, take the rest home (even if its just the onions or whatever) and make BREAKFAST FAJITAS. Its soo goood. scramble up some eggs with salt and pepper and at the half way point, toss in your left overs and scramble all the way. SO GOOD. Drinks - - Mexican coke and rum: Very tasty and you can't taste the rum at all.. Its probably dangerous. Plus, it's served in the bottle and it's a fun drink. :) - Ultimate Margarita: there was this place in Austin that served the "Mexican Martini" and it was basically the same idea. You get a shaker and a glass and you have yourself a goooood ol' time. I liked the margarita a lot. It's very simple and not flashy at all but it's definitely a good time. The place itself is super fun - the music is good, its dark but not dark enough to where i couldn't see anything, and there's plenty of tables. If you have to wait, there's a bar you can grab drinks from to start off. It was our friend's birthday. If you let them know, the birthday person gets a free tequila shot :)

Best fajitas ever..had it with steak and shrimp..perfect seasoning..tortilla made fresh which was pretty good. Perfect amount of meat and veggies. Seriously would order this again.

There are many good Mexican joints on the hill. Fogon is one of my favorites. I've been here twice now. Once with a party of 14, service and food was excellent and it was friendly on the wallet as well. Another time for their amazing happy hour that starts at 9p. My favorite dish is the seafood enchilada. To.die.for! Didn't care for the flautas, but ceviche was good. Had the bartenders margarita and it was nice! Love this place! They also make fresh tortillas! Yum! They are always busy but they do take reservations. Yes!

Nothing stellar or bad to say about this place. They have a good selection on their menu and get packed for happy hour and late night HH. Only thing I thought was weird was when my friend told our waiter there was a hair in her food (a big thick black hair that was obviously not hers), the waiters response was "My chef is bald." Well....OK, is she supposed to finish eating that thing? Lol, he took the plate away but still the weirdest response I've ever heard.

You simply can't beat the food here. My first time I came, I immediately began to wonder how it would taste, because many claim to be authentic Mexican restaurants, but few can achieve that. Walking in the door they have someone making fresh tortillas and the ambience is nice (although it can be loud at night being in Capitol Hill). But let's get to what's important here, the food! The food here is phenomenal. I had the ceviche and torta, and you get full bodied flavor from every bite. The portion sizes are generous too, especially during happy hour (best HH hands down)! Be sure to check it out, you won't be disappointed!

Came in on a Saturday night with a group of 8, our server was very nice. They said it would be a wait, which was expected but they said they could find a place for us at the bar instead of waiting for a table. A table ended up opening up for us after 10 minutes which was fortunate. I must say they have one of the best happy hours I have seen! I ordered the ceviche and a bartender margarita, my group ordered nachos. The portions of the snacks were huge and pricing for the appetizers and drinks were basically a steal. I will definitely return here!

Last night was my first time eating here and I really enjoyed it. I had two ultimate margaritas and they were great. The food on the happy hour menu was also great, I had two dishes (as I hadn't eaten anything all day) that were amazing. The service was also great, we had a decent wait for a table (about 15 mins, and considering it was late night that was cool). Our server was clearly a seasoned professional; pleasant, timely, and intuitive. I definitely recommend this place and will be visiting again.

Stopped by Fogon for a late night HH last week and I was so impressed! My initial reaction was not so great though as I've walked by Fogon many times and thought it was one of those expensive unauthentic Mexican restaurant. My rule of thumb for great Mexican restaurant: the more whole in the wall it is, the better. Anyhow, HH is served 3-6 and 9-close. The prices were unbelievably good!! $5 entres and drinks. I ordered two pollo tacos, somehow thinking it meant two tacos. Unbeknownst to me, one order consisted of THREE tacos. What a deal! and they were legit tacos. I could not believe the authenticity, the extremely cheap prices and the the super spicy salsa! I don't find too many Mexican places with super hot salsa anymore, but this salsa was so spicy, I had to stop eating for a while. I'm now sitting in my room wishing we should have gone to Fogon for HH instead earlier. Next time.

Service was great for a large party. The free starter, guacamole and chips, and cucumber mojito were great. I ordered the camarones a la diabla for the entree, it was great, but talk about fire burner. The tortillas and pacing the consumption helps.

My go to Mexican spot. Awesome happy hour. Wonderful staff. Reasonable prices. I am in love with their ceviche, ya gotta try it!! You also get a free complimentary veggie tostado upon arrival... Mm mmm

I can't believe it took me so long to discover Fogón. I've been to a lot of places on the Pike/Pine stretch, but this one seems to have just eluded me for some ridiculous reason. Anyway, I hope it doesn't take you quite as long to discover. Once you finally do make your way here, you realise that Fogón is no hold in the wall. The restaurant is large, bright and airy--perfect for groups--but there's a little tucked away corner area if you want a more intimate atmosphere within the place. The drinks are delicious and very fairly priced (especially during HH). The Bartender's Margarita was pretty swell, but it was the spiked horchata that blew me away. Even if you don't like plain horchata (gasp), I'm fairly certain you'd get a kick out of this drink. I can't say anything less about the food either. You're started off with a tostada on the house--mind you, it's dangerously filling, but you definitely want to eat it. My dining partners unanimously recommended the street tacos, so that's what I went with. I got mine al pastor (with pork and pineapple, yum), and others got theirs with carne asada and lengua. All were excellent, excellent choices. Others at the table got tortas, as well as some interesting enchiladas with piles of seafood (I've never seen that before, but maybe that's just me). Anyhow, the consensus was that every single entree we received was delicious--and that's when you know you've found a keeper. I'll be back before you know it, Fogón!

Hands down the best happy hour I've ever been too! And I've gone to my fair share of ones. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with a smile - excellent service. While looking at our menu I expected complementary chips and salsa but to my surprise they brought us a delicious bean tostada, with lettuce, cotija cheese and some salsa! I fell in love and was excited to explore the menu. We went for late night happy hour which starts at 9pm. Appetizers are $5 for HUGE portions! They have quality and quantity! I went with two friends and we tried the nachos, tostadas de tinga and chorizo with potatoes sopes! We definitely had leftovers! Drinks are reasonably priced. I tried the bloody maria - same as Bloody Mary but with tequila. My friends ordered a tequila preparado - a mexican classic: tequila, squirt and lime! :)

Great happy hour here. They have a late night happy hour starting at 9 pm. I recommend the ultimate margarita. It's a buy one get three free type drink. The pollo tacos are delicious and I am more than happy to pay only 5$ for three! Ceviche is some of the best I have ever had. This place is pretty popular so expect a wait. I will definitely be back.

Went here for my birthday. We had a nice time and was gifted a flan to celebrate! We were easily accommodated as a group, but it was also very loud so it was hard to talk to everyone at the table. Overall the food was good, but not awesome.

Hubby and I came here two weeks ago on the 28th of last month for my l'il sister's bday party with a big group of her friends. We were a party of 18 people and the restaurant had reserved the entire back section in the NW corner of the restau overlooking Belmont Ave. Though the table was tight, there was a long window counter for mingling. Apparently it had been recommended as the best in town by some of sissies' Mex-American friends. I wouldn't go that far, in fact I can think of many other Mexican joints in town that are much tastier (but perhaps not as ideally located). My margarita was def very watered down, hubby's camarones a la diabla lived up to its name and made hubby pay the whole next day (and trust me, we are no strangers to spicy food-- this dish just seemed to lack ANY flavor other than a jar of chili powder dumped into it), but my flautas off of the antojitos (appetizer) menu were delish-- a mix of the chorizo/papas, shredded chicken, and beef. But can you really mess up rolled, filled, and deep fried tortillas? In my experience, that's been a rare occurrence. Though some of our food was 'meh, I'm willing to admit that perhaps we didn't necessarily order the right stuff. I'd be willing to try it again, especially given how extraordinary the service was. We had a single youthful looking server, and he managed not to mess up a single order in the entire 18-person party!! :)

I had Arroz con Camarones (rice with shrimp). Such a simple dish and so well made. The tortilla was made from an open booth. They are so hot that I must air it cool like a hot towel (of course we get another helping of them). The bartender's margarita was citric and slightly sweet. I had two. :-) The waiter was attentive and services prompt. By 7pm, Sunday, it became a full house. I fully understand why.

4.5 stars really. I was REALLY impressed with this place. I was sat right away on a Wednesday night at 7 PM! It was busy so that was lucky! They were quick to check if we needed drinks, I tried the Skinny Margarteta and my date had a Mango Marareta. They were both so good and strong which I love. They then brought a free taco (!?) It was so so so good. Main course: my date had the Mole of which he ate all. I had the "Camerones de la diablo" devil shrimps. The waiter warned me by saying "are you sure you want this? it's very hot" I was like YEAH! OK wow it was very spicy but so good. Perfect (smaller) portion of rice and beans too. I will be back. The only bummer is parking (there is none).

Fogón caliente! Happy hour- a cocktail hour or longer period at a bar, during which drinks are served at reduced prices or with reduced priced snacks and small plates. One might get lucky at certain bars and find entrees at reduced prices but the purpose of happy hour is simple. Small bites, small plates and small prices. That is until you set foot into Fogón!! Fogón doesn't follow the typical happy hour recipe. Yes, they still do the limited drinks at reduce price like other bars. And yes, they do offer a handful of dishes on happy hour. But no, they are not small plates! We came on a Tuesday night and caught their late night happy hour. This place was packed! And rightfully so. Their happy hour menu is a major steal. You can find margaritas for $7, Sangria for $5, beer, wine and food! And the best part? They all come with free chips and salsa! As we sat down at our table, we were treated to two complimentary crispy tostadas! Yumm. Don't mind if I do! :) There were many tempting things on the menu but since we took the last empty table in the whole place, we decided to give happy hour a try even though I wanted everything else on that menu! They didn't disappoint! **Ceviche- There was no descrition about what kind of ceviche this was but I love all things fish, shellfish and seafood so I went ahead and ordered this. And wow!! This was amazing! They use shrimp instead of fish and it was perfect mix of spices, tomatoes, onions, lime and shrimp! So good! ** Torta Pollo Asado - holy moly sammy! This was ginormous! Giant fluffy rolls filled with tasty grilled chicken, dried chillis and spices. ** Street Tacos with chicken with fresh corn tortilla, onion, cilantro and salsa. It's so fluffy and good. **Sopitos - three thick corn tortilla with carne esada! This was so good. I love the steak. It was so much more flavorful than the chicken. Yumm yumm! I love it. And the best part of all? They were all $5 each.I kind of wish they have warned me about the mega portions. I would've ordered 2 entrees less. But then again I'll be saving $10 and not get to taste everything I want. So it's a win-win either way. Sangria was pretty good. Not the same red wine sangria as I'm used to. It needed more fruit/flavors but it was cheap. So no complaints. Over all, I ate enough for days with so much left overs on happy hour prices!! 4 dishes and a drink + extra charge for steak came out to $30! Did I mention how big the portions were? I'll be back next time to order two entree less. And drink more. But for now, let me go run around the block to burn off all that food.

Absolutely outstanding. Happy Hour is incredible. Food is great, service is great, drinks are BEYOND great. Ordered a margarita and it was the equivalent of three margaritas at any other Mexican restaurant. Just really, really excellent. I'll be back anytime I'm in Seattle.

  • Molly S.

We can't understand why it's not packed and that is one of the best things about it. If we have a Sunday or Saturday late brunch this is our choice every time. $5 mimosa pints, spicy bloody Marias are perfect. The chilaquiles and Machaca are perfection. We want to try other stuff but can't resist how happy these two meals make us.

  • Lili P.

The service here is courteous but can be a little slow . However, the food really makes up for everything. Especially the perfectly fluffy hand made tortillas , which is so hard to come by in Seattle . Not too thick and not to thin and dry. Perfection. So good I want to take the tortilla lady home. My favorites here are the whole fried tilapia which comes with rice and a salad. The chicken mole is also fall off the bone amazing!!!!! . they also have a good cocktail menu. Tamarind marg please!

It's a shame that parking on the hill is such a pain in the ass, as I want to go back... right now! I went to Fogon with a friend, and it just happened to be Happy Hour! Yay! We shared ceviche, guacamole, chips and salsa, and drank Sangrias. The service was great, and the Sangria was excellent. Very refreshing, but boozy enough to reconsider ordering a third. The cevishe was amazing. We made a good dent in it, but weren't able to finish it off (nor did we finish the guacamole). Usually Happy Hour menu items are a bit dinky, but they are very generous with their $5 ceviche. I'll be returning for dinner as soon as possible, as everything that came out of the kitchen looked amazing.

Amazing Happy Hour!!!! $5 tasty food items on their happy hour menu (like ceviche, tostadas, sopitos, tortas) that are huge, and yummy happy hour drinks (like $5 sangria)! Their servers are excellent, and they even brought our table a free app :) Their dinner menu is excellent too. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Seattle- I highly recommend it to everyone!

Stopped in at the start of the late night happy hour, 21:00-close. Enjoyed the house sangria and chips and salsa. I ordered ceviche and really liked it! Shrimp marinated in lime juice with tomatoes, onions, cilantro, cucumber, and carrot - topped with avocado slices. Normally $9,95, this was only $5 during happy hour! Great portion for the price.

For some reason, I'd never made it here even though every time I pass it, I think, "I need to go there!" My fiance and I finally decided to check it out last night, and I'm glad we did! It was a little annoying because we went awhile after the Seahawks game ended, so there were a few too many loud drunk people for my tastes. One table in particular was full of guys who kept SCREAMING and I almost gouged my ears out with my fork. Other than that, it seemed like the place is fairly loud anyway, which is fine, just good to be prepared for. As soon as we sat down, our server delivered a little tostada (with cheese, beans, lettuce, cabbage?, etc.) to each of us. It was pretty good although some bites were just a little spicy. We decided we wanted to split chicken nachos as an appetizer, and those were really good. It's not a massive plate of nachos like some places, which was nice. It was just enough, really. We each had burritos for dinner; my fiance had the pollo asada burrito, which he liked, and I had the norteño burrito (basically, the vegetarian burrito, which is made of rice, refried beans, cheddar cheese and lettuce & topped with lettuce, guac, & salsa). Overall, I really liked it, but the salsa was a little less like salsa and a little more like enchilada sauce, and a bit... ketchup-y, almost? A little sweet. I also wish I'd asked for no onions but that's just because I hate them; I'm sure normal people would be perfectly pleased with the amount of onions topping the burrito (none were inside, thank God). I'd like to try their drinks someday, but we just stuck with beer this time. Love me some Dos Equis Lager with lime.

Forewarning: This review is bitter + sweet. The best things come in the magical, even number of two / 2 / dos. For this reason, I will break it down as so... I was drawn here by: 1) their generous donation of 50% of all bills going to Lifelong AIDS Alliance in participation with Seattle's Dining Out for Life event (hence why I gave it 4 stars versus the 3 stars it probably deserved); 2) the superb Yelp reviews Two things stuck out that I disliked: 1) The NOISE! It was crazy loud, so much that I'd recommend placing decorative sound absorbing panels on the ceiling. I couldn't hear what my other guests were saying right on the other side of the same table; 2) The food was simply mediocre and the expected Tex-Mex that Seattle claims to be "Mexican." I even took the recommendation of our waitress and ordered the chicken mole, wa waaa. Two things stuck out that I liked (to end on a positive note): 1) Free mini tostada appetizer per person topped with refried beans, cotija cheese, lettuce and a dollop of crema; 2) The Latina serving up 'tude while handmaking una tortilla, dos tortillas, oh my! behind a glass window in the entry. I don't think she appreciated my photo opp though ( yelp.com/biz_photos/fogó… ) I guess I'll maybe have to try it out again on an evening for Happy Hour which everyone raves about and when an event isn't going on. Be sure to celebrate Dining Out for Life in Seattle (or in other cities across the nation) next year! Learn more at: diningoutforlife.com/sea… .

We went there for a late lunch on Presidents' Day. The service was awesome. Both the waiter and owner treated us well. I love how they bring out the free tostada to open up the meal. It is delicious! We ordered one of the lunch specials, ceviche con corona. I'm more of a Pacifico fan so I asked if I was able to switch the beers out. At first the server said it wasn't possible, but he went to the kitchen and checked and they were able to switch it for me and still honor the special. I was pretty thankful that the server at least went back and checked. Can't beat Pacifico on tap! The ceviche was on point. It was a nice balance of taste. I didn't feel like it was too sour or spicy or salty. It all blended together very nicely. I would definitely recommend it to anyone coming in for the first time. We also ordered chicken tacos and carne asada tacos. The meats had a smoky flavor which definitely elevated the dish for me. Prices were reasonable for great tasting food. Add on the great service and hospitality. We will definitely be back.

After several years wishing to find an authentic, go-to Mexican restaurant, we did: Fogon! With homemade corn tortillas, fresh ingredients, and flavorful seasonings, the dishes are delicious and keep you coming back for more. The fantastic happy hour prices help with this as well, with several great selections for $5. A bill totaling $10-15 for food and drinks? Sí se puede. Fogon offers two happy hour periods per day--one early, from 3-6pm and late, 9pm to close. Our favorite items include Fogon's tortas, flautas (picadillo), and any of the street-style tacos--the fish tacos are excellent, and in my opinion, Seattle's best. The red salsa, served with chips, is also very good. Other salsa and sauces served with specific dishes pull each together perfectly. Fogon is a great place to chill with friends or a date, with a laid back, comfortable atmosphere, friendly staff, and yes, satisfying food. It's also located on Capitol Hill which is of course, the area to be for action on any night of the week, but especially the weekend. Looking for a happenin', happy spot to hang, with a happy hour bonus? Fogon is it.

Ceviche and tortilla soup are my fave here... service ranges from eh to superb, which varies on staffing. But I've always gotten a good response when I bring something to their attention. Great daily happy hour from 3-6pm and 9-close, which yields serious awesomeness!

This place. The vibe very earthy and laid back. The food , your Mexican staples and then some. The drinks span the everyday and the wild days. Got here for lunch around two and the folks were very welcoming. Started with a free app. I got the tacos for lunch and my friend had the Tortas. The meat was well seasoned and well cooked. The salsa, spiceee. The ultimate margarita for $5 is a deal you can't pass up at happy hour. You basically get the whole shaker with the glass . I didn't need another drink after that. This is a place I will keep coming back to. The service was great even well into happy hour when the placed filled up: great little hole in the street to unwind on a rainy seattle afternoon and beyond.

Good food, decent service. We had the chilaquiles and verde enchiladas without the chicken as we are vegetarian. I felt that we were upsold on stuff. Referred to the full menu instead of lunch or happy hour which is less. We were also told the churros were made in house with fresh strawberries and the strawberry part wasn't true. Great chilaquiles, flavorful beans, lots of cheese in the enchilada ( I wish they would substitute veggies for the chicken instead. Vegetarians always seem to have to pay for the meat we don't eat.) churros were good but very sweet. I would go back but there are def better Mexican restos out there.

This review should be more of a 3.5 stars--my husband and I are vegetarians, so our options are limited at Fogon. The service is good, and I like that they serve a little snack when you arrive to take the edge off. Their vegetarian fare could use an update, though. Our favorite thing here is a plate of vegetarian nachos. The nachos here are not like elsewhere, they are totally delicious! Great refried beans, gauc, salsa, crema, melted cheese... it's what other nachos wish they were but aren't. If we come here again I might just have them for my entree, because they're better than anything else we've been able to try. They've always been out of the chile relleno when we've visited, so I can't speak to that. The tacos vegetarianos are ok, but not really worth ordering (not anywhere near as good as the fried zucchini tacos of El Chucho's in Washington DC). The vegetarian tamale is a better bet, it's a lightish meal (so order an app if you're hungry) and very tasty with the sauce on it, thought the coleslaw on the side is ordinary. We had them make us a vegetarian burrito once, but it was completely underwhelming. So if you're vegetarian, get some nachos and the tamales ;-)

Went here again yesterday afternoon for lunch and left happy. This is what I like about this place. 1st, The service; You're greeted before your seated, then you and your guest are given a nice little mini tostada as a complimentary appetizer. 2nd, The tasty yummy food; The prices for this yumminess is awesome, especially during happy hour. 3rd, The atmosphere is really nice here, its a mix of Mexican traditional color (Green Walls) and dark modern romance. My favorites are the Ceviche w/chips and salsa, 3 chicken tacos and the chicken enchiladas. My problem here, is that I eat too much and then I have to walk back down the hill to go home like a pregnant person.

Happy hour is excellent, and dinner is pretty good too! I'd go again. From the Yelp reviews, it seemed like their vegetarian options were sort of meh, so I didn't even try, and went with the (sustainable) enchiladas de jaíba (Dungeness crab). It was pretty good, as were the rice and beans that come with. I would have liked it spicier, though it went well with my rum and horchata. We dined late enough that it became happy hour again-- Fogon puts a crazed spin on the "shot and a beer" combo by serving the shot with a 32 oz. Corona. Es mucha cerveza, dios mío. Finalmente, nuestra servidora fue excellente y separó nuestras cuentas facilmente aunque había siete personas en el grupo. Muy amable.

This food is so good. And is a at great price. Less expensive than your typical Mexican chain and the food is 100x better. The staff is extremely friendly. We go here once a week for dinner.

My friends and I went in there on a Saturday night. The service was fast and the server was attentive. We didn't have to wait for a seat. Water was refilled twice. You get chips and salsa with a starter plate on the house. It was added a nice touch to my dining experience. We ordered off of the happy hour menu. The price on the happy hour menu was decent. I enjoyed their service and the atmosphere the place provided.

Handmade tortillas! Great happy hour deals, friendly service, tasty food and - handmade tortillas! There's a little tortilla frying stand by the window, and as you walk by you can see them getting fried up and ready to go. They are really, really good. I've only been for happy hour so have only tried a few menu items, but they've all been very solid. Great tortilla soup, and a steal at only $5 per steaming, full-to-the-brim bowl. The ceviche is an awesome deal as well, the tacos are tasty, sopitas are delicious... really, you can't go wrong with the food here. They give you a little amuse bouche, too, which is just a simple tostada tinga but a really nice gesture. My one complaint is that the drink prices are a bit high for happy hour, and as I don't drink beer, the margarita and sangria options are just okay. Still, the food is what matters and at Fogon it's spot-on! (I'm a poet and I don't even know it.) The space is nicely decorated and open, airy and well-lit. It'll be really great once the weather warms up and they open up the big windows - I'll be perched on a stool in the bar, sipping on a margarita and snacking on some of those tasty tortillas.

Yay! A decent mexican place up on the hill! Service is wonderful and the food is delicious. After seeing restaurant/bar fail one after another in this space, it's nice to see that Fogon seems to be doing well. Happy hour deals were great. Love the handmade tortillas and the little app that they give you. The soup they have is really good and I enjoyed the tacos as well. Torta was good but the meat/bread ratio was a bit off. Def give Fogon a try if you have a hankering for mexican and are in the area.

We were looking for authentic Mexican food and Yelp was hot on Fogon Cocina. We got there at 9pm, the wait was 25 minutes for a table so we went to the bar and Jose took great care of us making us each a superb margarita. We ordered the ceviche app and it was fantastic!! A huge portion and so fresh, my guy and I were loving every bite. Then we got our table and Omar was the best server; friendly and attentive. Our meals were great, very authentic, my guy got the lingua and I got the chicken de crema and both were large portions and delicious. The atmosphere was fun, the food was fresh, the price was right and the service was spot on. I highly recommend Fogon. We will be back often.

Best sangria and carne asada in town! Wonderful staff as well. If food didn't have calories I swear I would eat here every day. Check out happy hour! They have amazing specials.

Fresh! Fresh! Fresh! Did I mention everything is fresh? The fresh salsa is the bomb, the fresh chips and tortillas are great, and the wait staff are fresh. LOL. This place has moved into my number one spot for Mexican food. In my book things are done perfectly, meats are properly seasoned, service is great, and they do not use sweet and sour or pre made Margarita mix because...You guessed it they make them with fresh lemons and limes. The Ceviche is delicious and the amount they give you for happy hour is HUGE! My preference is the Carne Asada plate, but I haven't had a bad dish yet. If I had anything bad to say it would be that they may need more space soon, word of mouth is spreading. And to think that the first time I came in was by accident.

3.5 Stars I love a place with late night happy hour and Fogon fit the bill last night. The Bueno: -- There's a fresh tortilla making station up front -- You get a free tostada thingy when you are seated -- Our waiter was pretty nice -- The happy hour food menu is impressive. You have a decent selection of items to choose from and they are full size entrees, not a piddly mini version, for just $5! -- I was quite pleased with my chicken torta (sandwich) and everyone cleared their plates so I will conclude that my company enjoyed their meals as well, which included ceviche, a salad, and a mole dish The So-so: -- The (complimentary?) chips and salsa were just OK -- The free tostada thingy tasted slightly too much like peanuts -- Our waiter disappeared for long periods of time -- Poquito's is just up the street and I like the ambiance there a little more and I think the food is of slightly higher quality I'd like to return to Fogon and see if I can bump them up to 4 Stars. A good HH goes a long way with me. I hope they are still there to return to though -- I don't know how many businesses have come and gone in this (cursed?) location. Bueno suerte, Fogon!

This place has great food, as good as or better than the more expensive mexican options up or down the street. Ive been coming here since their first week opening and have come for happy hour at minimum of 4 days a week. When I first started coming they would practically beg you to come in and treat you very well, often you were the only person at the bar. In the last year with cheesy amazon/ms employees flooding every restaurant on the hill this place is booming and the service is garbage, with the exception of several very nice employees who still remember me from their beginning. I always tip 30-40% during happy hour to help the servers because the food is about half off,but today I was treated very poorly AGAIN by some condescending new server. It pains me because the food is good but I am no longer giving my money to Fogon and will try the many award winning mexican restaurants 2-7 block in any direction. So long fagon and hello la cocina oaxaquena, poquitos, barrios, saint, and mezcaleria oaxaca.

Fogón is a welcome addition to Capitol Hill. They've got some stiff competition in the neighborhood but they hold their own. What they've got going are good drinks, good food, a more casual atmosphere and lower prices. Plus their location is convenient if you're walking up the hill from downtown. I always order the ultimate margarita with chile-infused tequila. It comes in a big-ass shaker, so you will get a lot of mileage out of it. Whatever you do be sure to try the fresh house-made tortillas. I don't care what dish you order, just try them! However, my girlfriend and I love the camarones a la diabla, so order that too (if you like prawns in a spicy, savory hot sauce). Fogón is quickly becoming my neighborhood fix for Mexican food.

It's like Poquito's, but with delicious salsa, more and way better food options and great service! The only downfall that I can think of are their weird, thick chips.. I can't wait to go to Fogón for HH - they have it every damn day from 9pm to close with lots of $5 food options!

I last visited Fogon when it first opened and, while it was good, I was a little disappointed. I guess I had it in my head that it would be a certain way and was bummed when it wasn't. It had just opened though and I may have also been "Hangry" which does tend to color my perception... I digress. THIS time, however, was very different. They still brought by the yummy free starter that they had before and I was very impressed with the chips and salsas and the guacamole, which is only $5 (for the guacamole) and is one of the best I've had, especially for the price point. Other restaurants charge upwards of $9 for the same thing (**Ahem...The Saint - I am still bitter about that one). They also had a creative drink menu including a new favorite which I was just introduced to at a real live Mexican wedding, so I know it is legit...Squirt with Reposado tequila. It may sound booty but it is...sooooo yummy. Refreshing while at the same time having some richness (from the reposado). We all enjoyed our dinner. I got the Flautas and my friend got enchiladas. Needless to say, we both cleaned our plates. My boyfriend got the carne asada burrito and ate most of it. The rest, I am now enjoying for lunch! The service was great and friendly and we got to sit outside by the sidewalk where they have ample counter style seating for a much cooler experience, especially with this heatwave! I will definitely be coming back, especially for happy hour, which looks seriously legit. To all my friends who kept telling me this place was great, sorry I didn't listen to you. This Hungryginger is now a convert.

Hands down, the best Mexican food in Seattle in my opinion. I ordered the pollo con mole and the mole was so flavorful that I'd order again but there were so many other items on the menu that I'll have to go back to Fogon frequently to work through the list of great food. I recommend going on a weeknight, weekends are too crazy.

Yes, come to me complimentary tostadas!!! I've been hearing great things about this place so I had to come and try them out. I didn't realize this just opened not too long ago and it used to be this Korean restaurant. We walk in and we are seated a few seconds after. So beautiful and peaceful with candles. I love it already. Then there are the bottles with fresh water waiting to be served to us. The server gives us our menus and we ask for HH. I'm so excited. A few minutes later, after looking at the menu, the server brings us two complimentary tostadas. Mmmm, so darn delicious. Crunchy, hand made with some fresh queso fresco. I loved it. Very very delightful. We order for HH their ceviche, torta, nachos, sopitos, and their chips and salsa. Haha, yes, big eyes for this new place. Let me just say that I love ceviche so I'm very picky. Their ceviche wasn't bad at all. It as nearly perfect. The only thing that disappointed me was the fact that it was very dry. It was cupped in a bowl then plated with lime and a few chips. The flavor was there but it lacked a little salt. But I thought the flavor was up to par, but it wasn't flowing in it's juices like it should be. It was definitely tender and tasted authentic, but I just wish it was soaked it it's juiciness. The nachos were so delicious. Oh so fresh, tasty and just melts in your mouth! These nachos beats Matador any day! Fresh shredded beef on top with cheese, fresh tasting quality beans with their creamy creamy sour cream. So damn good with guacamole. Seriously one of the best I've ever had! The sopitos to me was just okay. It was fresh and thick, but wasn't my favorite. My friend however loved it. Their chips and salsa was tasty with a green chili salsa. Very hot, just the way it should be! So, sadly, the torta here was horrible. We had the chicken and it was horrible. Sadly it tasted like drenched (soggy) bread with a grilled chicken and white cheese. I was so disappointed. I took a few bites and stopped because it wasn't great. It's okay that this torta wasn't good because I know I won't get it from here any longer. However, their other food seemed to taste very high quality and very tasty. The only bad thing about this place I would say is that their staff seems to have a lot of side conversations when I saw them, as I was waiting for my check and waiting for them to process it. We waited a while for them to pick up our bill and I saw them having side conversations. That's fine because it's a business, but I just think a bit more attention to getting the bill. Otherwise, I think this place is great and tasty! Oh, and we also had their jamaica. So gooood. Close to the real thing (with the leaves) but I couldn't tell. So good it reminded me of Mexico!

Went for margaritas at late night happy hour on a Monday night. To my surprise, not only was the place still lively and full, but turns out their margaritas come as an entire shaker (literally served in the shaker ...with a glass on the side. so chic.) of not too sweet, not too sour, and delightfully strong and delicious margs! They've got a fabulous happy hour menu which I was unfortunately too full to indulge in but everything looks amazing.

My friends recommended Fogon because they believe that Fogon serves the best Margaritas in Seattle. I also got that from reading serveral reviews on the place. Well, I don't think Fogon has the best margaritas in town, but it was pretty decent! I've had better margaritas elsewhere. They were strong, but I felt that it was missing something, not sure what though. Fogon serves pretty decent food! If you come during happy hour they have $5 food special on certain food & drink items. Happy hours are 3PM-6PM I believe and 9PM- Closing. I ordered their polo asado tacos flame -broiled chicken breast marinated in a sauce of tomatoes, dried chilies and spices. The taco was very good! It was one of the happy hour items they had so it was $5 for 3 tacos. Not bad at all! I also ordered their Nachos- layered with beans, choice of shredded chicken or beef and cheese, topped with sour cream and guacamole. The Nachos were 1/2 plate serving for $5 but it was still A LOT! It was a full plate serving to me. For the table we ordered chips & salsa (free during happy hour, other times $4). While the chips were the thicker tortillas (not really a big fan), the salsa itself made up for it! It was AMAZING! AMAZING I SAID! It was spicy, and spiced perfectly!! I could live by eating their salsa everyday! Overall, Fogon is a great place to have a Mexican meal. Very good service, modern interior, great food, and ok margaritas. Next time I am in Seattle I will definitely return to Fogon and try out other items on their menu.

Fogon has become "our place." The staff is super friendly, and we love to sit at the bar. They have a great happy hour from 3-6pm and 9-close - $5 apps and drink specials. Plus, everyone gets a tostada just for coming in... who am I to knock free food? (Free AND delicious - total win.) Fogon has the best tortilla soup I've found on Capitol Hill... and really, the city of Seattle. It's delicious, filling and $5 during happy hour. Other HH favorites include the nachos, ceviche (huge portion, great for leftovers!) and taquitos. We usually go thinking, "hey, it's happy hour, we'll save money!" But then we end up ordering 17 dishes and stuffing our faces. Hmm, it's almost late happy hour now! I might have to make a run... Four stars because service can be a little slow/neglectful at times, but don't let that discourage you. (Plus, that's sadly become the norm on Capitol Hill, it seems...) Give it a try and we'll see you at the bar!

The food is stellar; classic dishes well made. I always tell folks it's more authentic with smaller portions and better flavors than your average suburban chain slop. My current favorite is called carne rancharita. It's a spicy chicken or steak dish with tomatoes, bell peppers, onions and potatoes. Shout out to the staff as well. They seem to all know each other really well and as a result work together efficiently with an air of fun and frivolity. It can be a little loud, but it's a great spot for a group or intimate date, happy hour, lunch or dinner. I'm so glad we have this new hot spot on Capitol Hill. Fogón is a great addition to our community,

My group and I loved this place!! We walked in and had to wait around 20 mins for 3 for a table but trust me it's completely worth it, if you need to wait just sit at the bar. The bartenders are completely friendly and attentive. Awesome drinks, awesome service and the entire wait staff was on top of their game. They pour great authentic drinks so you never get bored if you want to try something new. We had Gary serving us, and he was the best. He was very knowledgeable in how the food was prepared, down to the history behind their classic Mexican cocktails. The house salsa was super yummy with thick fresh chips. They served a super fresh ceviche which could pretty much have been a meal by itself. They didn't skimp on the shrimp and they didn't cheat and use the tiny gross frozen ones. They cut up healthy sized shrimps along with all the other fresh ingredients. Their tortillas were hand made right in the restaurant! One of us ordered the lengua and it was some of the best lengua I've had. I highly recommend this place for starting your night on the town, visiting family, coworkers or taking someone on a date to eat here!

I've only been here once for a quick solo brunch (I get crazy egg cravings sometimes), but the service I received was impeccable. Granted, it wasn't the busiest of times, but all three people who took care of my were so friendly, warm and personable, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. Delicious food, great hot sauce ... end of story! Yum!

Free chips and salsa at happy hour - yes please - toss in good food at a decent price and I'm a fan. It was difficult to stray from the Rancho Bravo a couple blocks up the street; but we really wanted a sit down place for the occasional early night out. We ordered a plate of veggie tacos as well as a plate of poblano tamales. Tamales were worth going back for. In terms of tacos, well Bravo is nearly impossible to beat so don't feel bad Fogon.

Everybody working here had a quick smile reflex. I stopped in because I could see they had XX Amber on tap, and they won me over right away with a frosty glass and tostada on the house. It's great to see a bustling business at this spot on the block. Their happy hour menu is cheap and diverse, so hopefully that keeps things busy. The torta w/pork al pastor looks tasty so I look forward to coming back for that and a XX. +6 cheap prices, friendly staff, XX Amber on tap -1 no wifi ------ 5 Stars!

Quickly becoming obsessed with this place. Been here twice for lunch now and both times have been excellent. Had the enfrijoladas today. Fresh tortillas? Yum. Refried beans? Yum. Carne asada? Yuuuuummmmm. The sangria definitely helped after a long week. This is just the kind of Mexican food I like. No BS, just good, fresh, delicious food. Way better than Poquitos.

I have always walked by this place on the way to get my haircut, and always wanted to check it out. When I first walked in, I was a bit (pleasantly) surprised with how much nicer it is inside than what I expected. Not sure why, but I expected it to be just a tad bit more casual -- but that is a good comment. As soon as you sit down they serve you a small tostada with a salsa mixture on top, so that was nice. And it was pretty tasty. I also ordered more chips, salsa and guacamole. Can never go wrong with that combo. My most important judgement on Mexican restaurants is based on the quality of their chips, and I can definitely say the ones here were good. For my dinner, I ordered the pollo asado. It was flattened grilled chicken, rice, and black beans. In all, I actually thought the chicken was really tasty. It had good flavor for being beaten thin. The rice I wasn't crazy about. In all the food was good. As for seating, it felt a bit tight. We were seated along the wall where one side is a long bench, and the other side is chairs. The space between the tables was a tad bit intimate against stranger for my liking, but I wasn't exactly sure if that was intentional or not. I'm pretty sure given the opportunity, that I would go back here for more.

Went for dinner late one night. They brought us a free mini tostada appetizer with the chips and salsa. It was really good so i had high expectarions. I ordered the Fajitas, steak and chicken. They did not come out on a sillizing plate which was a surprise. I have to say that they are the best fajitas I have ever had. I would highly recommended them.

I've been to Fogon twice for lunch and it's definitely my favorite Mexican food in Seattle. All of the food I've had has been very good, with the quesadillas fritas, chilaquiles, and nachos being my favorites. The complimentary tostadas are also great and I really like their horchata. The restaurant was a little slow both times, but the service was always prompt and friendly. When there was a small mistake with our nachos order (chicken on the whole thing, rather than half) they gave us the original plate while they were already making a new one without chicken. The happy hour specials look pretty good, but I haven't had a chance to check them out yet. I've heard this space has been several restaurants in the last few years, so I really hope Fogon can make it last.

This place is the business. These are the nachos you have been desperately searching for. I may be a white girl, but I grew up 15 minutes from Mexico and this is exactly the kind of food I've been hoping to find in Seattle. I swear to god if you fail to support this business and they go under, I will stab you. How's that for a god damned yelp review??

Having eaten here several times in the past and having mixed experiences, the last visit was enough for me to avoid it all together. I enjoy all sorts of ethnic food all over the city, but the staff here (with the exception of one of the servers who wasn't there this day) are distracted, even on days with few customers. My friend and I came in on a Saturday lunch, the server took our order, I ordered two tacos with a caesar salad for 7 bucks. It came on a smallish plate with two small tortillas a small amount of chicken mixture and perhaps a half cup of salad with hardly any dressing and a dozen dry croutons, I noticed the next table eating the appetizers they usually bring gratis, our server hadn't even brought them, when I asked (being hungry from the tiny serving) he apologized and brought them. Really, I don't ever remember having a taco with only one tortilla, pretty cheap, they make them there. many other restaurants worth more consideration.

    Going going going to Fogon! 1, 2, margaritas and I'm all gone! Hands down my favorite mexican place for happy hour. . Get the ultimate margarita ($8) with the martini glass if you're feeling fancy. Comes with the shaker so you can pour your own refills - great for pacing yourself. Bartender margarita also packs a punch. So does Sangria. And who can complain about a tequila shot + beer chaser (32oz!). As for munchies. This is how it goes: "Hold up, five dollars? Oh man I'm going to get some pitiful portions. Must order 3 dishes for myself since I'm a skinny girl that eats for two. HOLY EFF WHAT IS THIS. THERE'S TOO MUCH FOOD. Nah I can finish this. Must. not. waste. food. Too delicious. Cannot stop. Fudge...Can I have a togo box?" (ashamed) Cannot go wrong with their ceviche (so fresh!), tacos, quesadillas, and sopitos. Service is great too. Waiters are great (;

I've been here twice in past week. Had the carne asada burrito dinner first time and beans and rice with tortillas today... One of my standbys for every place I go for Mexican. You must stop and try this place. Can say it's the best Mexican in capital hill. Great service and nice decor. Clean rest rooms. Friendly folks all around. And you have to love the fresh tortilla maker right in front... Fun to watch her make em right there. Slightly expensive but worth it. I've paid more for less many times.

I was honestly expecting typical Americanized Mexican food, but was delightfully proven wrong! I'm no Mexican food connoisseur by ANY means, but I can tell when I'm eating fresh tortillas (they make it in-house) and fresh chips. I had the torta de tinga and shrimp ceviche during happy hour. The torta was SMOTHERED with cabbage, which was actually very nice because it helped lightened what would've otherwise been a heavy dish of beans and chicken. The ceviche was fresh, but one-note in the seasoning. That said though, both dishes were $5 each so who am I to complain? I would definitely go back to try the other dishes.

As soon as we sat down to look at the menu a server came by with complimentary tostadas for us to enjoy while scanning the menu. We ordered the crab enchiladas, fish tacos and chile verde. The verde was a little on the spicy side and it came with 3 small tortillas so my 18yr old son asked for more tortillas and we found out when we got the bill that we were charged $1.95 for 3 tortillas which was irritating since we can't remember the last time we were charged for extra tortillas at other places. 3 small tortillas weren't enough to eat with the chile verde. The enchiladas and fish tacos were really good. We also ordered the trio chips and salsa and that was good too.

The service is good the food is great, Mexican restaurant with amuse bouché.. Totally awesome, they are not trying to be cool they just quietly produce great food. This is a go to restaurant and never disappoints, its way better than most trendy spots

Great local hang out with good food, friendly owners and staff and the best margarita in Seattle. The margarita is served in a fairly small glass, but don't let that worry you. They also leave an entire shaker with you so you can continue to refill your little glass three or four times for the price of one drink. Thanks for all the good times over the years, Jose, Noel, Victor and Omar!

Met a girlfriend here for dinner after work. I was digging the decor, the open window seating, and people all around the restaurant looked like they were having a good time. The seating is a bit tight in some spots if you're needing a table for two. I really dislike being cramped in between other tables so we opted for seating along the walkway. A lot of passing traffic around that seating arrangement but offered more space. Fogon gives you a complimentary tostada but you'll have to place an order for chips and salsa. I would recommend the Norteno Burrito and one of their house margaritas. Good service and very reasonable prices. I think there's a lack of truly amazing Mexican restaurants in Seattle, but I'll put Fogon up as a top three pick for now.

Fogón translated to english literally means stove or hearth a place where food is prepared and bodies are warmed. Since early homo-sapiens first began to discover how to create fire from sticks and stones the hearth has represented unity. Through out history every culture has come together in front of the fire to exchange ideas and break bread. Fogón Cocina Mexicana on Capitol Hill is the epitome of this great tradition. They represent a place where people from all walks of life can come together to share a meal and exchange ideas. I have been eating at Fogón on a regular basis since they opened least year and have been continually amazed by their consistency in both service and the quality of their cuisine. Upon entering this neighborhood staple one of the first things you'll notice is the sweet smell of homemade corn tortillas being cooked by the door. A friendly host is always poised smiling to greet you and direct you to either the restaurant or the bar areas. If you happen to grab a seat during happy hour (as this critic often does) a friendly staff member will always bring by a complimentary Tostada for you to try while you peruse the menu. I want to mention that the Tostada itself is a work of art as ornately arranged as an Ikebana (the Japanese art of flower arranging); made from a crispy house made tortilla layered with beans, tinga, cabbage, queso cotija, crema and salsa roja. Whenever I have brought friends or dates to Fogón they often ask me what they should try first on the menu and my reply is always the same; everything is delicious. Weather you are coming in for a quick bite of nachos (the best I have had since living on the Mexican / Arizona border) or a plate of Enchiladas Rojas your tastebuds will be delighted. For a restaurant that specializes in a uniquely gourmet and authentically Mexican cuisine you'd expect the prices to be hefty however this is not the case. At Fogón Cocina Mexicana they offer food that is affordable on even the tightest of budgets. In closing I would like to thank Noel, José, Hymen, Victor, Hugo, the Omar's and the entire Staff of Fogón for providing me with a warm hearth to gather around for the last year. May the citizens of Seattle and the Capitol Hill neighborhood continue to break bread at your establishment for many many years to come. Sincerely, -Marcus White

I was very disappointed by this place. I know this is supposed to be the hip replacement for Kiki (which, by the way, I did not despise, unlike most Capitol Hill-ians - their beef pho wasn't bad and they made nice cosmopolitans. Nonetheless...). I ordered the steak burrito to go, and honestly, how can you mess that up? Or so I would have thought. It's steak, for lawd sakes! They managed to, though. 1. Meat - dry and over-salted. Sort of tough, too. "Over-salted" is a term that passes my lips maybe once every 3 years. I LOVE salt. But apparently there can be too much of a good thing. 2. Rice - dry and bland. So, so, bland. 3. Vegetables - meh. 4. Sauce - made my tortilla soggy. This was a huge waste of $9 which I reluctantly composted since I was super hungry. I want to eat local, but Chipotle is like ten times better than this. Sad to say. Better off spending your money at the ever delicious... dun dun dun dun... Matador!!! ( yelp.com/biz/the-matador… )

WOW. Like others have said, this is one of the best happy hours in the area. The food isn't only damn CHEAP ($5 options), you get a lot of it, and it's super tasty. The free chips and salsa are also top notch. The chips are freshly fried, people!! The shrimp ceviche is tasty and refreshing, and more than enough for a proper meal. The margaritas come out in a small glass... with the SHAKER too!! So you get like 3-4 glasses in one order! This place beats Poquitos and Barrio by FAR for a HH around the hill. I officially have a new favorite HH spot.

My husband stopped in around 130 looking for a drink and a small snack. I had the ultimate margarita and my husband had the house margarita, they where both so delicious. We had been given a tostada appetizer for free and that was delicious as well. I ordered the lunch special of the half torta with carne asada and tortilla soup. Which they where both amazing and delicious! We will definitely be coming back.

My partner and I ate here for Valentine's Day while visiting Seattle. We both enjoy Mexican food but are used to and prefer the kind you can get in New Mexico. However, this was an interesting take on Mexican food and we both enjoyed it. The atmosphere and setup was great and I would certainly enjoy going back again. Also, our service was very good/fast and we enjoyed the margaritas as well.

Woohoo! That's all you need to know, but I'll type some more. I love mariscos and there are not many, if not any, places in Seattle that I can go for ceviche. This place has the best deal I've had outside of Latin America. Happy hour ceviche is only $5! I also love the lengua en salsa verde. The complimentary tostada is also a favorite. The staff is great and the location is super. The only negative I have is a personal preference. Since I love mariscos, I'm not a fan of their coctel de camarones. They serve it hot. I like it when it's cold, but I understand not everyone prepares it cold. I recommend this place to everyone that wants good food and drinks. I come here often which is a shame because there are other great places to go on the Hill but I always end up here.

I'm from southern cal and have had a lot of Mexican food. I've been here a few times now. These guys are some of the friendliest homies around. They put their own spin on the food which is nice. Every item I've had both food and drink has been excellent.

This restaurant seems promising however my impression quickly changed. The service is horrible and the food is far from tasteful. For authentic Latin American food go elsewhere.

I lived in California for many years, so I know good Mexican food. This is the best Mexican food in Seattle. The chicken fajitas (marinated in tequila and beer) are outstanding! The chips and salsa are wonderful and it's a shame you may not get any unless you request it. The free sopa is excellent!

  • Irene S.

Absolutely love their ultimate margarita ($8-- happy hour). It was huge and delicious (not those gross sugar bombs some Mexican restaurants call margaritas). They make good food, service is excellent, and has a great atmosphere. One small irregularity though. I noticed that they give free tostadas to guests upon arrival but not necessarily always. I wonder why they give you the tostadas only sometimes? It's so tasty, definitely the best part of the experience, so I'm disappointed when my visit ends without one!

This place is SO much better than the horrible Belltown-style tube-top crap that kept cycling through there when condos went up after they tore the best block in Capitol Hill down. Really though, Fogón is exceedingly friendly, and as a tortilla snob, I really appreciate the handmade on the spot effort they put into them (there's a little tortilla-making station outside of the kitchen--an authentic touch). As a vegetarian, I recommend the guacamole to start out and the Enchiladas Rojas, which is two corn tortillas dipped in salsa and filled with queso fresco. It's supposed to come with carne asada, but the waiter just gave my meat-eating date extra on his carne dish. The sautéed potatoes that come on the side are perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the enchiladas themselves had the most unique and delicious flavor I've had in such a dish! There wasn't three cups of enchilada sauce dumped on top--a common enchilada danger--and the filling was super tasty. Glad this place is around! I'll definitely be eating there more frequently and taking guests from out of town who scoff at Seattle's lacking Mexican food.

Are y'all kidding?! Only a Seattleite (or Midwestern transplant (see Seattleite) could ever dream that this place served "authentic" Mexican food. Let's start with the queso fundido. What arrived on the table was, and I'm not kidding, essentially melted mozzarella sticks with flavorless grilled steak trapped inside it then some frozen corn sprinkled in for pizzazz. No joke this junk coagulated within 2 minutes and became an inedible lump of greasy rubber. At that point the mistake of waking into this urbanized suburban strip mall eatery was painfully clear. The logo alone = red flag. The rest of the meal was a hazy (though mercifully quick) nightmare of refried bean slop -no doubt from a giant can delivered by Sysco Foods- a dried up, bland enchilada and, you guessed it, canned black beans. Wait...two servings of beans paired on the same enchilada plate? Yes. Holy grody guacamole! Do not put yourself through this. Avoid.

I think I've found my new happy hour haunt of choice on the hill. For deals and quality Fogon is tops. Seriously, it can't be beat. First off, Happy Hour every day - 3-6 and 9-close. That is a lot of time to get some cheap eats and drinkies in. Second -- the actual food. You have a somewhat limited happy hour menu, but the choices are all winners in my book. A half order of nachos that is easily more than enough for one person to consume (though I happily snarfed my ooey-gooey, chicken and bean filled, topped with yummy guac and crema pile down). Sopitos with delightfully thick, house-made corn/masa tortillas topped with delicious chorizo. Tostadas with chicken tinga so flavorful that extra salsa and hot sauce are not needed. Seriously, this is good stuff. and only $5. Oh, and house-made chips and salsa (both delicious) are free? Thanks! We also received a lovely mini tostado with beans and queso gratis after sitting, double thanks Fogon! I am so impressed with the tastiness of their easier to make happy hour fair that I'm ~excited~ to come back and try their full menu items. Third - drinks. While their draft list is less than amazing, you have the Seattle classic Manny's on tap for a measly $4 during HH, or a better steal of Negro Modelo for a paltry $3. $5 sangrias. $8 margaritas -- which don't be deceived by the small glass they give you. You get the cocktail shaker chock full of lime-tequila-y goodness to refill as needed. A very nice version that did not set my teeth on edge (as tequila based libations are wont to do). Fourth -- service. Friendly, quick, professional. Questions were answered, refills provided, food served, and checks split with an easy familiarity and grace that made the entire experience comfortable and enjoyable. Fifth-- the decor. I don't know. But I love the lime green walls, mirrors, and over abundance of silver crosses everywhere. It's themed but not obnoxiously so. Sixth -- they validate my apathy for Poquitos up the street. I'm not sorry. When you have better food, drinks, and service ...how can I ever think of going back for something that is so much LESS on so many levels? Fogon is great. Forget the other pretenders on the hill and come here for some tasty Mexican eats that won't break the bank or leave you getting a snack sometime later.

I love me some Mexican food. So when my sister suggested meet up at Fogon Cocina, I was all for it. We went for their happy hour, which is FABOO! The HH nachos are huge... I couldn't finish them myself. We also got the quadrilles with chicken. Those were just as good as the nachos. And what is Mexican food with out beer? Got myself the classiest beer I could.... a tecate... and it was on tap! I will be going back to try more of their food.

Not bad, not bad at all. I've been waiting for word that this place had finally opened in hopes that there was a decent Mexican spot within walking distance of my apartment. Verdict? YES!!! Split an order of chips and salsa, with some mild concern based on an earlier complaint about the price for chips and salsa. Folks, these are chips cut from handmade tortillas, accompanied by a trio of delicious salsas. Totally worth $3.95. Also, they will refill your chips if you run out before finishing said salsas. Bestie got the tacos...al pastor ($8.95). Unfortunately yelpers, she said "nothing to write home about" but, had potential if they weren't so oily. I on the other hand, ordered the other "safe" looking dish on the menu, the carne asada torta with a side of tortilla soup. For $10.95, this is a bomb deal. Firstly the tortilla soup: not spicy, but I didn't care it was so deliciously savory. This might be my new soup on sick days. You don't get a cup of it either, you get a hefty bowl laden with soup laden with chunks of avocado, tortilla strips, and queso fresco (could be wrong on the cheese, still noms) OMFG best carne asada I've had on the Hill (haven't tried Poquitos yet, fyi). Beautifully seasoned, not tough or leathery at all. I only ate half because I wanted to save room for my after-dinner bubble tea. However, boyfriend is currently shoveling the other half in his face, gasping "I can't stop eating this!" between bites and hoarding it like it's his last meal. I walked over and he just crammed the last 4 bites into his mouth so I couldn't take it away from him He already eaten a full dinner too before I came home with leftovers. Fatty. Service started out mediocre, but picked up to decent midway through dinner. I would recommend getting some a/c up in there because open windows are nice and all, but I don't really like seeing 10 fat flies buzzing away ten feet away when I'm about to eat. But, even with no a/c, I'll defly come back again very soon.

Fogon serves solid Mexican food. The steak milanese (breaded steak) is great and is my favorite dish. They nail a crispy exterior and while preserving tender texture of the beef; a squeeze of fresh lime, rice & beans, and house made tortillas seal the deal. The steak fajitas and chile colorado are also worth recommending. Everything tastes fresh at Fogon and I've been impressed with the quality. One disappointment was the pork verde, which was a bit overcooked and tasted dry.

If you are Mexican and you are in need of some real Mexican food, this is the place to go. My personal favorites are the shrimp ceviche and carne asada street tacos -- tortillas are hand made which is fantastic.

Finally was able to try this place last night during the Dine Out for Life event! I went with three of my close friends and we had such a great experience. The staff were funny, friendly, efficient, and made us feel welcome the whole time we were there. We had the $5 Sangria special to drink, the three salsa with chips appetizer and guacamole. For dinner I had the seafood enchiladas. Everything was phenomenal! I can't wait to go back and try everything else on the menu.

Thank you Gary and Noel for a most festive evening! I only give reviews if I'm feeling five star, and Fogon Cocina Mexicana gets five stars just for their Ceviche! Every mouthful I took in I wanted to linger and savor for as long as I could! And if a Mexican restaurant has a liquor license, the quality of their Margaritas can make or break them. Fogon Cocina Mexicana your happy hour rocks! YOU MADE IT!!! The service was impeccable and key as this was a business meeting and we wanted to just focus on getting acquainted! When I walked in I instantly fell in love with the decor and loved the color choices which were perfect for picture taking with Seth Wayne, our favorite weatherman, and Jason. The music choices I would choose for a social event at my home, and together all the elements make this a perfect destination for meeting with friends. A lot of restaurants have come and gone at this location, but THIS ONE IS DEFINITELY HERE TO STAY!

This review is long over do. I eat here all the time. The food is delicious, inexpensive, fresh and very consistent. The guacamole and chips are amazing. I think they make the corn tortillas and chips from scratch in house. The thing that really makes the place the best though is the service. The people who work here are the best. Kind, efficient, professional, welcoming. I left my purse there once and they held it for me, totally intact of course.

I have been here multiple times for late night happy hour. Love the atmosphere and the staff. Always very friendly. Prices are great! They have many $5 appetizer/small plate options. I love the chicken tortilla soup! Get it every time. Also, their margaritas are awesome!! Made with fresh juice, no mixers. Highly recommend. ohhh and also! They serve their tortilla chips WARM! which I absolutely love and why im going from a 4 to a 5 star. So great with the guac.

I wandered in here this afternoon right as their happy hour was starting and boy was that a great decision. The gentleman at the door was really nice and directed me to the bar where I sat up at the counter. The bartender told me it was happy hour so I ordered a margarita and looked through the happy hour food menu which was all $5. I decided on a torta because I had never tried one and a sandwich sounded great. As I'm waiting to order the nice guy who seated me walked up with a crispy tortilla topped with beans, cabbage and cheese and said it was a free appetizer to start me off. WOW! How often does that happen? It was delicious and spicy and pretty much the perfect thing to hold me over until my food came. Speaking of the food, how the heck have a I never tried a torta before? It was so great! First off, it was HUGE for $5. The bun was so soft and buttery and had a delicious aioli/mayo that really balanced out the spiciness of the pollo asado. There were also huge slices of fresh avocado. So yummy. The only down side is that the house margarita was $8 on happy hour which is a little steep in my book. It was delicious though. I'll be back again soon to try more and update my review.

I am so sad and disappointed with my last 2 visits both this week. My friend and I were working in the area and found this place by accident in July and loved everything about it. We were so excited to return when our work brought us back to the neighborhood. On Monday, we were confused right from the start by the shoddy service. Barely acknowledged throughout our whole meal and even given the impression we were putting the help out when requesting anything.... uh.. like a cocktail? Anyhow, we wrote on the back of the bill about our disappointment in the service but since we LOVED the drinks and food we decided to give it one more try tonight. Mistake! We must have been recognized from the previous visit because we were treated with disdain the moment I requested a different table (the one they put us at had no seat back on to the bench). There were several employees looking our way once we were seated but none bothered to greet us at the table to take a drink order. It was clear we were not welcome as they scattered like cockroaches when our eyes met. Pity, there was a real opportunity missed for them to redeem themselves but we felt so uncomfortable, we got up and left. They get 1 star for the Margaritas and the initial experience. They have a good food and drinks there but what ever is going on with help will keep us from ever returning. Gary, if you read these comments, I hope you'll take it to heart. We are not just random diners in a foul mood. We have been in customer service for years and hope that the folks you have looking after your customers get some coaching on the value of true fine service.

I had al pastor tacos. WAY too salty, I couldn't taste anything else--worst tacos I've ever had in Seattle. No complimentary chips and average margaritas. I have no clue why they're charging what they are! Sorry guys, step up your game if you think you're going to fetch those prices.

Love me some Fogon! The fiance and I find ourselves at El Fogon more often than is good for us. We love both their food and drinks, and the atmosphere is always entertaining. The owners are really friendly, as are all the bartenders and wait staff. I love the complimentary tostada they serve everyone just for stopping in. It's a nice treat that definitely makes the place memorable for every patron that darkens the doors. Did I mention they're delicious, to boot?! The tortas are tasty, as is the carne rancherita. We enjoy the queso fundido, trio of salsas, and street tacos to share. The last time we were there we were talked into ordering the ceviche, and it was some of the best I've had stateside. Drinkwise you will always find something you like, thanks to a great happy hour and creative daily drink specials. I know that in the past the restaurants in this location never really found their rhythm. I hope and truly believe that El Fogon is here to stay, and that is a very, very good thing.

I came here on a Sunday for lunch with a friend. The restaurant half was mostly empty, though upon leaving, we discovered that everyone was watching the football game in the bar. The biggest negative is the decor - the wall covered in shiny crosses was unusual but amusing, while the black curtains hanging in front of the entrance are confusing and awkward, and not very inviting. I'm not sure what the purpose of the curtains is, especially since the restaurant has windows everywhere so it's not like it's a private environment anyway. Service was good - we were promptly seated and our young waiter seemed eager to please. You get tostadas rather than chips and salsa as the complimentary appetizer which is an interesting twist and probably better for you than eating an entire bowl of corn chips. The lunch menu has very reasonable prices, such as an enchilada plate with rice and beans for $8. My two tamales were also around $7 and very tasty. Dinner prices are a little higher, but I'll definitely come back here for happy hour. Finally, note that there's no parking, so be prepared to scrounge on the mean streets of the Hill or visit sans automobile.

I have been to Fogon a handful of times with the most recent last Sunday. I'm always impressed with their level of service and great attitudes. Their food is delicious and their happy hour is incredible! $5 food in large quantities. The Fogon staff are truly their to make your day and they will. Sunday was no exception to my previous experiences. Omar was our bar server. This was some of the best bar service I've received. It's often difficult to manage many food orders on the "bar-side" of restaurants but Omar was all over it. The bartender (wish I asked his name) who made out drinks did a fantastic job. See you all soon!

Been coming here just about every Friday for the past year and a half and the reason is because they are deliciously constant. The waitstaff is persistent and recognize familiar faces and treat you like family. Times I feel like I'm eating at my non-existent Mexican grandma's house. It's welcoming, friendly and amazingly cooked. I rave about this place to just about anyone who will listen.

We got seated and served quickly. Our server was friendly and attentive. We ordered and shared guacamole, salsa, arroz con pollo, and seafood fajita. The guacamole was delicious as was the salsa, though I could taste the oil on the chips, which is off-putting. Both entrees were heavily laden with green peppers which, to me, detracted from other flavors. The fajitas barely had any seafood and it felt as if the over abundance of the green peppers was an attempt to mask the lack of the primary focus of the dish. I would have preferred a smaller dish with more seafood and almost no peppers. The arroz con pollo was very greasy, the chicken pieces were relatively dry, and again, overwhelmed by peppers. The best part of the meal was the freshly made tortillas by the hard-working lady standing near the entrance (I hope she is well-paid because she is the reason for the 3 stars- actually, she should have 5 stars all to herself). Another positive element was that the food was piping hot when it came out. If I ever eat here again, I would get the rice, beans, tortillas, guacamole and salsa.

We stopped in for a snack before dinner during their daily happy hour (4-6pm). Our eyes must've been bigger than our stomachs because we ordered a couple entrees in addition to a few bites off the happy hour menu. After we put in our order, our server even commented that "we must be hungry". The happy hour portions were good for sharing and definitely would have held us over until dinner. Instead, our snack became our dinner with leftovers to spare. I also loved that the tortillas are made to order. You can watch them being made as soon as you enter, which can help time pass if you have to wait to be seated -not the case for us as we were immediately seated.

Writing this review as I'm sitting in the restaurant! Our group of 3 was seated immediately given some tasty tostadas... for free (appetizers). They have half price tequila shots on Tuesday, shots were huge, definitely double shots at single shot prices. Apps $5 in the evening, filling, and tasty! I asked a question about my marg being slightly less amount than I expected and they brought me another one! We're visiting from out of town and very pleased :)

On my way to my friend's place, I ordered their carne asade burrito to go. The cost, $12. The burrito, a decent size; it should get you full. Chips 'n' salsa are not included. On to the burrito: - The rice and beans were flavored with a red sauce. - The tortilla was kind of hard, wasn't a huge fan. - The carne asade was thinly sliced and tasty. They didn't skimp on the amount of meat which was nice. - The guacamole was well made and on the side. - Overall: It was a little salty for my taste, but still pretty good. I wasn't WOWd but I may be back to try something else.

Good place to eat within walking distance to Pike Place Market. This place is open late and happy hour is a good option after 9:00 pm. Even though the restaurant was packed with people we got our food and drinks quickly. It was cool to see the lady in the front booth rolling out tortillas, like a boss.

I came here with my bf on a Saturday night, we had the bartender margaritas. They came in the little champagne glasses (the low wide ones) with ice and then left the shaker, which for $8 didn't seem like a good Happy Hour deal and didn't really taste like... anything? It wasn't super lime-y or tequila-y or sweet, just a little bit of each; I would personally prefer my margs a little more bold. For food we got chips and salsa, an easy choice, and ceviche as we recently went to Peru and couldn't get enough of it. Well, if this is your first ceviche, please for the love of lime, fish and all things holy, try it somewhere else because ceviche is amazing and this was just, ok. First of all, the shrimp had clearly been boiled which is contrary to the very idea of ceviche. Ceviche is raw seafood that is "cooked" so to speak, by the acidity of lime juice with some onions and pico and some other veggies, but the fish should most definitely not be cooked by pan or boil or whatever. Nonetheless I do want to go back as they make their tortillas on the spot and I liked the atmosphere. Once I can come back for more of a meal I'll reassess my rating.

This location seemed cursed. Businesses came in and out faster than any other spot in the area. The owners at Fogon have worked hard to make sure they don't see the same fate. Even with the amount of competition in the area, they have made a couple key plays to put themselves above the rest: 1. Price - completely affordable and worth what you pay. You get large portion of great food. 2. Drink specials - they have great happy hour deals and large margaritas. Makes a great place to start a night out. 3. Hours - Making it a great place to end the night as well. Not many appetizing late night eats that aren't pizza or hamburgers, but Fogon has made sure to stay open later to help cater to those looking for food late.

The food is fantastic. Lots of options. Amazing horchata! Love them.

Fogon seems to value quantity over quality. The food is bland. Nothing about it authentic, and the drinks are week. The Sangria was awful. Especially in comparison to other Mexican places like The Saint, and Poquitos this place is not good.

Definitely coming back! I have a good feeling Fogon will be here to stay. The turnovers @ this spot are over! The place is superbly friendly and it definitely sweetens things up since they shower you with compliments of the kitchen. Good price for a lot of good food. Had some tasty pollo stir fry on a bed of rice. It was definitely more food than I should consume in a sitting. a friend ordered fish & surprisingly it came in whole & intact. It was a bit much to tackle so beware.

Ay Caramba! Severely underwhelmed and so mediocre! Tastes like suburan or faux mall food court gringofied mex. So bland, what a bummer. I was hoping for another Mexican restaurant option on the hill. Oh well, I'll stick with Tacos Chukis and Barrio.

This is my favorite Mexican place of all time, even over my favorites in Mexico itself! Their portions are perfect, and everything is FANTASTICALLY fresh. Add to that their table side poured margaritas, which are also fantastic, and you have a great restaurant. The service has always been great, even when they are super busy. The prices are also reasonable, especially for a new place on Capitol Hill. I highly recommend them, and go there at least once a week!

Yummy in my tummy! My friend moved into an apartment building across the street from here. So after a full day of baking cookies and cupcakes together... we wondered over for some dinner. I have to stay.. from beginning to end, Fogon was hitting all the marks for me. Upon walking in, we were greeted promptly (check!), then brought to a table where a very cute waiter took our drink order (check check!), and then someone brought us each a little tostada! (check!!!) With all these boxes of greatness being checked... why 4 stars instead of 5? There were several things on the menu calling my name. In the end though, I chose a vegetarian burrito - but asked that there be very little rice inside. But when I was eating it.. there was tons of rice. I would almost go so far as to say it seemed like extra. Also, the overall sauce was a tad sweet. Also, the chips and salsa are only free during happy hour. So we did have to pay for them. Still, I was very impressed and will certainly make a return visit. Happy Hour here I come! Mama needs some chips & salsa!

Finally found authentic Mexican food in Seattle!! My husband and I lived near the Mexican border for most of our lives, so we were spoiled with tons of options for authentic Mexican food. Since moving away, we've always been on the quest to find something close to real Mexican food. There are other decent options in Seattle, but this place is the real deal. I would go back just for the homemade corn tortillas! Even in San Diego, it would be hard to find a place with tortillas this good. We also loved the roasted jalapeno that came with the carne asada plate - yummy & adds a nice spicy kick. We had perfectly cooked carne asada, and enchiladas done right - the tortillas are dipped in salsa and lightly fried, so it has that perfect tortilla consistency, not the mushy kind you find most other places. We've only been for lunch on a Sunday afternoon, so I can't speak of the atmosphere during dinner hours, but it was easy and quick for lunch on Sunday. This will definitely become our go-to place for our Mexican food fix!

One of the best Mexican restaurants in the city. LOVE the tongue tacos and the tostada they bring out in the beginning with chips. Margaritas are great and it's a fun atmosphere, especially for groups. Definitely a must try in the Capital Hill area. I refer all my friends to go here for Mexican! Awesome flan. yum!

This place was great. Went there for Happy Hour this week and the food was excellent (reasonably priced), the drinks were good, and the staff were all really friendly. I would recommend this place first for someone looking for Mexican food on Cap. Hill. We will be back for sure.

Amazingly yummy Mexican food in Seattle! Found this through the assistance of yelp, and later discovered that it was highly recommended by another one of my friends. I had the Enchilada de Jaiba (two flour tortillas with Dungeness crab) and was blown away by the flavors and freshness of everything. Of course, my NY standard of seafood is pretty low, so maybe this is just typical of Seattle? Regardless, delicious food..none of my friends were disappointed and prices were very reasonable. On my list of places to go whenever I'm back in Seattle.

Delicious steak, generous portions. Chips and salsa are free during happy hour. I really like Fogon and have tried a few different things on the menu. Everything was really good, but I think the carne asada is a standout. The little appetizer thingy (I have no idea what to call it) we get for free with every visit is always quite tasty. Service was a little slow last time, but they're always friendly. The chips are thicker than I'm used to and generally need a little salt.

This spot is on the corner of my block, and THANK GOD for that. The service, food, prices, and atmosphere are fantastic. I'm so stoked. I moved to the hill in April and am not a huge fan of Mexican, so I never checked this place out. I went there this weekend with three others, and coincidentally found my new favorite happy hour spot. They immediately put a free appetizer of some sort in front of us, saying it was "on the house", not to mention chips and salsa are free as well. Although the food was $5 a pop, it didn't taste anything like your average, boring $5 Mexican food appetizer - it was GOOD! And at $3 for Corona and lime or $8 for a gigantic margarita, I don't know how I could ask for more. Happy Hour runs from 3-6PM and 9PM-Close! Also, I just love the atmosphere. It's very vibrant green inside, and they keep the windows wide open in the summer.

Mexican food on Capitol Hill that doesn't suck! - Freshly made chips that were delicious - Container of water on the table to refill your own - Friendly, attentive service - Long list of tasty alcoholic beverages - Brunch-y options before 3pm - 3-6pm happy hour I had vegetarian tamales and a house-made horchata with rum. Both were quite good. Fogon isn't dirt cheap (entrees range from $8-13) but it's similar to the surrounding restaurants for better food and service.

We tried Fogón earlier this week for the first time and enjoyed it, especially the margaritas. They have a few vegetarian options and I chose a burrito which was really good, but nothing special (I ordered it with black beans and they were seasoned well). My boyfriend ordered carne asada with enchiladas (I think) and he thought it was de-LISH. I regretted not ordering the tamales but will try them next time. I ordered a mango margarita which was SO DAMN GOOD, I could have had 6 more and then puked on myself. Fortunately this did not happen. The service was impeccable -- the friendly waiter kept our water glasses full but didn't hover like some places do. He brought us a tasty, complimentary tostada appetizer when we arrived, and had some great margarita recommendations. The restaurant was clean and tastefully decorated, but not so fancy-schmancy as to reflect it in the prices or make it non-casual. We will definitely go to Fogón again, and I am excited to try their other vegetarian options.

Entering was a mistake. Will not eat here again. 0. Space and decor are nice. Very South Lake Union. 1. The avocado on our ceviche was BROWNING. Hello! Have you heard of lime juice? Yes! It's in the ceviche! Do you think you could put some on the avocado so it looks appetizing, or take the minutes to slice it fresh? Subway can serve non-browned avocado, why can't you? 2. Ceviche was overseasoned. 3. Waitstaff has no concept of courses. We ordered the ceviche as an appetizer explicitly, but our mains were plopped in front of us with a lot of "god I hope I'm doing ok" (or is it "I hate my job but I'm going to grin and bear it") smiling and not enough understanding of how meals work. 4. I ordered mole. Sauce was good. I'll say that much. But I've had mole once before -- in CONNECTICUT (for christ's sake, CT is not the cuilinary capital of the world in anyone's book), and it was a beautiful stew of chicken thighs on a bed of rice, garnished with beans and a bit of cilantro. Fogon? This looked like cafeteria rations. Two pre-overcooked chicken breasts, reheated, slathered with sauce, and garnished with sesame seeds. The grill marks were there from the pre-overcooking, but there was no convincing grill taste, not even liquid smoke. The sesame seeds were just confusing. Maybe the chef's worked too many ameri-chinese joints. These two pathetic chicken breasts, dry as kindling, took exactly half the plate. The other quarters were rice and beans, with a miniscule iceberg and diced tomato "salad" at 7 o'clock. Are you just not good at plating, or did you want this to look like a kiddy meal? Finally, tortilla holder was too big for the tortillas, and was hard to open. Not saying that every aspect of a restaurant has to be ADA-compliant, rheumatoid arthritis friendly (though I think they /should/ be prepared and willing to make such accomodations), but these widgets were definitely manicure-breakers. My dining partner ordered some sort of chicken salad. I can recognize that it's the same dry (from frozen, perhaps?) chicken breasts, just covered in some seasoning and sliced up unevenly. It did look like his greens were tossed properly in dressing, but the greens were also BROWNING. Thumbs down on presentation, taste, and freshness -- not much to redeem.

I've been coming here pretty regularly and its about time I left a review. This is simply my goto spot if I want good Mexican food. 'Good' is obviously relative but coming from texas, its been hard to find anything decent or authentic. Youll find both here. My ideal meal here is the carne asada plate with an ultimate margarita.

I have been here about 5 times in the last month and each time, it is consistently amazing. I'm Mexican and grew up eating home-cooked, authentic Mexican food, so my palate is difficult to please. I was expecting a typical, watered-down Tex-Mex selection from Fogón. I was incredibly surprised to find that their food was as close to a home-cooked meal as I'd had in ages! I half suspected to find my grandmother or mother cooking in the kitchen! It's warm, dreamy, delicious comfort food. The tortillas and corn chips are made from scratch, which shows that they are willing to go that extra mile where their food is concerned. The restaurant is always clean (tables, chairs, dishes, silverware,) the staff always courteous and the food consistently amazing. EVERY TIME. They are on point. No matter how busy the restaurant is, I get seated quickly and the food gets to the table just as fast. Additionally, I am impressed at how the staff is always so well groomed/clean/nice smelling. That may sound weird but I really appreciate that they care about their appearance and how they are representing their establishment. I've met the manager (in passing.....he stopped by to greet our table once) and it's clear that he cares about the customers, and that is obviously passed down the line to the rest of the staff. Go when they have happy hour. It's awesome. I LOVE the nachos and the norteño burrito. Might I add that I am a vegetarian and find that they have PLENTY of options for me and my veggie friends. They're willing to make most of their dishes without meat (or cheese,) all you have to do is ask.

$3.95 for Chips and Salsa? Not Real Impressed I just got back from lunch there and I had the Carne Asada Burrito, Chips and Salsa, and a Pacifico on Draft For starters, wasn't a big fan of the chips they use. I like warm, thin tortilla chips...and these were cold and thick...as thick as a potato chip with no Flavor The salsa's were just ok...the salsa's at the Saint and Mexico in Pacific Place are much better The Carne Asada burrito didn't use very high quality steak. I can get a much better carne asada burrito at Blue Water Taco grill Now what really was a suprise was when I got the bill They charge $3.95 for chips and salsa? When restaurants do that, you can tell they are nickle and diming My total bill came to $22 and some change I could have went down to Mexico in Pacific Place and gotten a MUCH better meal for the same price(at Mexico, chips and salas are free..and much better) THe only reason I would go back in there is for happy hr or drinks. They have Pacifico's on draft for $3 during happy hr But the food...no thanks -Mark

My fiance and I ate here again on Sunday and they have now added a happy hour menu. They selection is pretty good as far as food and drink and the food selections are only $5 and free chips and salsa! They even added a new lunch menu with combinations. It looks like they have addressed all the complaints from the previous yelp reviews. They must have read my previous note about appetizer plates, because they bring them out now. They even bring out a free sampling of a tostada during regular and happy hours.

It really wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. The happy hour was pretty good..cheap drinks and 5 dollar appetizers. The homemade tortillas are a nice touch, but if it isn't happy hour, I think you are probably better off visiting one of the many taco trucks..

Decent prices, excellent service, vegetarian options, but not really any vegan main dish options (the veggies are most likely sauteed in butter). They did bring me an appetizer sans cheese, which was nice. The chips are for real - thick, crunchy, not too greasy. Delicious. And the salsas are excellent and unique. This is my favorite Mexican place on the hill, for sure.

  • James F.

Very good. I had the carne asad and it was well seasoned and cooked nicely. The best part though are the homemade tortillas. They actually have a woman who just sits there making tortillas all day. Im not sure if they use the home made tortillas for the torilla chips, but that was some of the best chips i've ever had. The only negative thing i would say is that the food took kind of a long time to get to our table.

I love this place!!! First off it is sooo much better than alot of the mexican food on cap hill, including but not limited to Paquitos or Barrio (even if fogon dosent use local organic meat, which is a bummer, but they really make up for it, at both those places things are bland or over salted). I have been twice now and you will not get a colder beer. The Pacifico in an ice class is incredible. Now for the food: I have been here twice and only for happy hour, but I loved every single thing I ordered. First off, the chicken torta is unbelievable. the bread is so soft and flat and puffy. the chicken is thin and flavorful. I am a huge torta fan, and I have not had one like this. i love it. The chicken tortilla soup is amazing as well. Again i have not had a better tortilla soup. It would be amazing if you were sick. The Chicken tacos are great and on homemade corn tortillas. The green salsa is really really good! The ceviche was really good, but i like my ceviche with other fish, besides just shrimp. For shrimp only ceviche, it was good! Oh and all happy hour dishes are 5 dollars, with 3$ ice cold beers, and free chips an salsa during hh. So reasonable! Service: is great, never had to wait long and very friendly. Decor: I like it, its kitschy. I wish there was some mexican music playing. I feel like there was not, so it felt like it was missing something, but who really cares when the food is great. Anyways, go check it out. I really hope this place sticks around for a long time.

Not sure why this place has received so many 4+ star reviews. The food was decent but not great - basically your typical texmex fare that you can get at a lot of places. Ingredients were fresh and the dishes we had were well prepared. Service was also good and attentive. Just don't go in here expecting a more authentic Mexican food experience - it's definitely pretty Americanized. I feel like if it was in a better space I'd prob go again, but more than half of the space is kind of cave like..

BEST MEXICAN FOOD on CAPITOL HILL!! We have been waiting for a GOOD Mexican Restaurant. This place is BETTER than GOOD. Top Notch! Service is Quick and Friendly. Food is Outstanding and Addicting!! Margaritas are Amazing... I use to Hate any Margarita that was not blended... Now, Fogon has totally changed me around. I will not have it any other way than the Fogon way. Many to choose from and I am still working my way through the list. Must Check Fogon Out... Or you will be Missing Out!

Food 5 Atomosphere 3 Scene 5 if you want a party 1 if you want a quiet dinner Margaritas 4--great taste (possibly the best in Seattle)---but change the glassware. Three or four sips out of the "dixie cup" size and it's time to refill from the shaker. Nice idea---but not practical Great food. I started with a 1/2 cup of the albondigas soup. Served just as it should be and with two good sized meatballs. Not too much salt---veggies were perfect and the meatballs were out of this world. Semi-full from the larger than expected serving size of soup, I moved to my entree: the carne asada burrito. Good size, great flavors and while it was a touch salty--the good outweighed the bad. My partner had the Norteno burrito with chicken. Great decision to add the chicken. Flavor was awesome and when mixed with the rice, beans and cheese----I should have ordered it instead of the carne asada. We will definitely visit again---but bring out own margarita glasses. :-)

Happy hour, happy hour, happy hour! The food here is unique and delicious. Happy hour prices will leave you fat and satisfied. During the day the below ground seating by the windows makes great people watching with lots of light. The staff are super nice and on it! Highly recommend hitting this place up after a nice time at the Farmers Market on Broadway.

I want to like this place more than I do. It's the best restaurant that has been in this failed space ever, and the food is not just authentic but well prepared. They charge here for chips and salsa, but it's worth it; the salsas are complex, fresh, and delicious. Your free appetizer is a small tostada de tinga, with crumbly cotija cheese on top -- unique and tasty, a delightful start to dinner. The menu is well priced -- seafood enchiladas are about $12, and you get plenty of seafood for your money. The carne asada is very good as well. I love the carne asada burrito especially. The norteno burrito is not nearly as good, although I am still very happy to eat it, but if you get it with chicken the chicken is limp and watery. But I am not totally satisfied with Fogon. For one thing, there seems to be a communication barrier between the kitchen staff and the waitstaff. I've gotten the wrong order 2 out of the three times that I've been here. And during my first visit, the waiter told me their grand opening would offer happy hour prices all day -- when I returned for the grand opening, we were told that this was not the case, although the hostess said that several other people had been promised that as well. These experiences leave me with one eyebrow raised. I would come again for the food, but my expectations are not high. Maybe in a year or so, they will work their kinks out. I hope so -- this is a place with a lot of potential.

Based on two visits in the past week, my verdict is: The atmosphere is nice, the service is good, the prices are generally reasonable (skip the weak margaritas), but the food is just OK. Chicken Mole- Chicken slightly overcooked/dry, and a little bland. More flavor needed, overall. Refried beans and rice on the side were done well. Tortilla Soup: I'm no expert on tortilla soup, but less salt and more broth, please. My partner didn't complain, except to note that he preferred the meatball soup that he had on our first visit. I agree, the meatball soup was pretty good. Crab Enchiladas: Not bad, but not particularly exciting, either. The side of black beans were a little firmer than I like, and the white rice was downright boring. I felt like a chump spending $4 on chips and salsa. Hint: if you can't get ripe tomatoes, don't serve pico de gallo. Cardboard tomatoes are not an adequate substitute! There's also a mild green sauce and a slightly spicy red sauce, neither worth writing home about. The "Ultimate" margarita was very watery, even though I poured it off the ice into my empty water glass right away. Don't waste $10 on it. El Mestizo, I miss you. Please come back!

I recently moved to Seattle and have been searching for the perfect Mexican place. Well ladies and gentleman, I am happy to say I found it! Overall, Fogon is a solid option for mexican cuisine on the Hill. Homemade tortilla truly is their secret ingredient. Fogon personally won me over with their spiked horchatta. Margaritas are very good as well (not sure why the ultimate margarita was served in a craft cocktail glass ... it's a margarita ... put it in a pint glass :) Quality meals (tacos, tortilla soup, chille verde). Ventured to have dessert, specifically churros. A bit let down because I know Mexican desserts can be so amazing. Think Pullaylup Fair Churros...melt in your mouth with just enough sweetness. Conveniently located on Route 49 and other buses going up and down Pine. Truly hopes the Capitol Hill neighborhood embraces this new establishment because so many others (Kurrent, Kikos, etc.) have failed in this location. Will definitely be coming back.

I'm the biggest fan of Seattle and all that Happy Hour has to offer and this is a good one. $5. Just $5 per item. I usually get the tacos and sangria. They also have REALLY good margaritas. I've tried the dinner menu as well and it was amazing. I got the Camarones a la Diabla and it was SO good. If you can handle spicy. The sauce, i'm not really sure what's in it other than butter and goodness, but it's just so amazing.

  • Robin L.

We go for the late happy hour all the time. $5 sangrias and nachos and tacos and all kinds of good stuff. Score! The staff is friendly, the food is good. It gets loud in there (what is it with this city and it's aversion to acoustic damping to keep the noise down?) but it's well worth the trip.

The best thing about this place was probably the steak- reminded me of the way i grew up it eating it, Mexican style- clean cut (not grissly or greasy), thin, nicely grilled. Also worth getting are the margaritas. Instead of chips and salsa before your meal you get a small bean tostada topped with lettuce and crema - I think i would actually prefer the chips and salsa. The chicken tacos were good- nothing special to write about. But I've heard the mole is no bueno.

Continuing my quest to review all of my favorite Mexican food on Capitol Hill, I end with Fogon. FINALLY, someone put something people will like in this space! The service is simple, good, and friendly, but not gushy or annoying. They give you a little delicious toastada to begin, and once you order you won't be disappointed. Portions are delicious, good sized, but still humane and the drinks are great. I wish I could remember the name of the orangy cocktail I had (I know that it's on the happy hour menu). You have to try this place out!

  • Jeremy H.

There is room for improvement here and there, but the food was very tasty. My dining partners and I didn't have a single thing that we didn't love, or at least like very much. Reasonably priced New American/Mexican style food served by a friendly, if timid, staff. The drinks were not bad, but a little light on the alcohol, and many of them were more expensive than the entrees (I had an agavae margarita for $11.50, while my shrimp entree was only $10.50) Minus one star for the too-loud, random music (which morphed from mariachi to Top 40, to musical extravaganza), an easily correctable problem. Also, this new trend in upscale Mexican food restaurant to charge for chips is sort of ridculous--chips and salsa here will set you back $3.95.

Very good atmosphere and tasty food. I ordered a number of things on a relaxed Saturday night: Tacos Lengua, seafood enchiladas while my friends ordered carne asada and more tacos lengua. Good quality meats with careful preparation: the seafood enchiladas especially were fresh. Very good sign. First impressions of the decor: nice for the hill but the menu hinted to me of lesser mexican restaurants. Not true! While the items on the menu looked awfully traditional, they did a good job with their food. Drinks were OK. We ordered a spicy margarita and 3 regular ones. The spicy wasn't spicy enough (though I am content to receive a whole, freshly muddle habanero per drink so possibly I tend toward the hot). In general, the drinks felt a bit light. I'll be back to try other dishes for sure. Keep it up, Fogon!

Great place. Went for happy hour with a friend. We were given complimentary tostadas right away. The sangria has watermelon and tequila and is very tasty, but be warned, it hits you later. The $5 menu is great - my tortilla soup was big, full of shredded chicken and avocado, nice fat tortilla strips, though a tad salty for my taste. My favorite may have been the dessert churros. I emphasize "dessert" because they came filled with a strawberry paste in the middle and topped with whipped cream. It rivals the Burgundian's beignets for my favorite cheap dessert in Seattle, and I frickin love those beignets. Very friendly and prompt servers, too. Great place on a cold rainy day.

Popped in on a Sunday afternoon with my man to have a quick drink and an appi before picking up the kiddos. The service was friendly, the decor was great and the drinks were yummy and the food was excellent (and had happy hour prices - whoot!). Will be back!

I'm super happy to have found this spot! Great happy hour drinks and food.. lots of five dollar options and free chips & salsa, you just gotta ask for it. We sat down and were immediately brought complimentary tortas which was really nice. They were good but in no way mind blowing. Our waiter was friendly and the space is cool, with bright walls and fun decorations. The tables are a little crowded but I didn't mind. I got a bartender margarita ($8 HH) and it was pretty good, a little sweet but I sucked it down. They also had $3 HH Coronas and Pacificos, which by the way Pacifico is superior for sure. I ordered the Carne Asada and it took about twenty minutes for our food to come out. It was very flavorful, especially with my side of limes. *I am a lime whore* It comes with rice and refried beans with queso fresco sprinkled on top and a nice dollop of flavorful guacamole, a fried jalapeno, and a grilled green onion, as well as some tortillas on the side. The steak is sliced very thin and it's a little tough, but I tend to expect this from Carne Asada, For two people it ended up costing $37 before tip, well worth it for the quality of food. Also, I'm stuffed! I'm excited to come back to try out more menu items, so many things sounded delicious. And also to take advantage of their happy hour. Who says there's no delicious Mexican food in Seattle?

This place is amazing! I'm from rural Colorado with a 60% hispanic population, and so I have a really hard time finding Mexican food around Seattle that I even tolerate, let alone approve, and this place gets way more than my approval, I will be singing their praise until my voice goes out. The food is incredibly tasty, and definitely not just an improvement on your boring average Azteca fare - wherever the chef is drawing inspiration from, I want to go to there. The ultimate margarita is almost as delicious as the food, and prices are pretty reasonable.

If I had to choose one restaurant to eat at the rest of my life it would be this place. They do everything very well, straight up. From the salsa to the fresh made chips, to the fish tacos to the cocktails this place always delivers. There is nothing crazy or really fancy about this place, just really, really good mexican food. My partner and I just returned from a week in Mexico and the whole time we were wishing we could have been eating at Fogon.

My wife and I had a date here and we will definitely come back. They gave us a free tostada right away and we ordered some hibiscus juice which was awesome. The atmosphere was trendy but still casual and the waiters were stylish. Our food came and it tasted authentic and fresh. Definitely matched what we expected after reading the glowing review in The Stranger.

When I want some good Mexican food. I like to come here. They serve authentic dishes. You get a complimentary tostada when you done in, which is delicious. I've had their taco plates of chicken and steak, and sopitos that I love. Their mojitos, chocoflan, and arroz com leche were on point!!

I love Fogon! The people who work here are awesome and they always remember us. Everything I've tried (burritos, tacos, nachos) has been wonderful, but the ceviche was the absolute best. Love their happy hour, love their decor, and I would recommend them to anyone. I'm only lowering my rating to 4 stars because (and this is typical of so many Mexican restaurants) they can be a little stingy at times. Like when I asked for "no rice, extra beans" with my veggie tacos, I just got one little side of beans and apparently forfeited my second side entirely. ::sigh:: Oh well, it tasted so good, I didn't care that much in the end.

I've been to Fogie's a couple times now and--teeheeheeheehee, do you see what I did there? It never ceases to amuse me. Anyway. I've been by for the happy hour a couple times now--both early and late--and I'm a fan. They make you feel appreciated right away by giving you a little bean tostada simply for showing up. How thoughtful! I can't imagine being so thoughtful. The Ultimate Margarita made with fresh lime juice and their chile-infused tequila is a winner. You can get it without the chile-infused tequila, but I'm not going to bother with that. It's got just a little bit of fire to it, and I like it--it's memorable unlike many of the cocktails I try. It's served in a little glass I'd more expect to see something like a Manhattan in, and my first thought was, "$8 for that?" (that's the happy hour price, normally $10), until the bartender set the cocktail shaker he'd made it in down next to the glass. So, not only can you feel fancy by drinking from the dainty margarita glass, you can also have fun refilling your glass several times, feeling like a big shot pouring your own drink at the bar. The world is truly your oyster for a few minutes there. Cheap pints of light, refreshing beers like Pacifico pair nicely with such a cocktail. Go ahead. It's happy hour. You deserve it. A limited happy hour menu is available for $5 per item, a value proposition that varies depending on what menu item you're ordering, but which mostly seems like a good deal. I had sofritos on my first visit, which is sort of a stack of thick, pie-crust tortillas filled with stuff. They're typically made with some type of meat, but I don't eat that. The bartender was helpful and gracious and said they could easily make it with beans, so that's what I did. This said, I think this is a dish that probably does best with one of the meats, to give it some punch. The modified preparation was missing a note and left me a little flat. I recall mainly doughy tortillas and sort of bland beaniness. Not their fault, though, because there I was messing with their preparation. It's worth noting, though, that if you care about menu substitutions like this, that the refried beans here are vegetarian, not made with lard. More recently, two of us split the happy hour half order of nachos (omitting meat, ordered as "bean nachos"), the ceviche, and the quesadilla. The nachos, though listed as a "half order" is still a pretty good serving, at least for splitting between two people. That's not to say I couldn't have demolished that plate on my own, though. They were cheesy and beany, with a glob each of sour cream and guacamole on each side of the plate. The tortilla chips are thicker than some you might find at other Mexican-ish places, but I think this serves a dish like nachos well, actually, since they're not likely to snap in half as you lift one from the pile and fight the applied tension of a cheese string, or the weight of a bean blob. These were some pretty good nachos, and I'd put them alongside others I've called "the best I've had in town." The quesadilla was a nice "authentic-tasting" quesadilla, by which I mean it tastes like what one in a restaurant should, made with a nice softened tortilla and the appropriate Mexican cheese for a quesadilla, a far cry from my late-night Mission-brand tortilla with cheddar cheese "quesadillas," especially the way they cover it with a bunch of cabbage or what not and serve it with a couple slices of radish. We fancy now. The ceviche was a generous helping served with a basket of chips with which to scoop it. I'm no ceviche expert, but this was tasty. It was a good foil to the heft of a dish like nachos or a quesadilla. The robust tortilla chips likely kept me from uttering a few expletives as I'm prone to do when a chip snaps unceremoniously mid-scoop, but they also fight also against the delicacy of the ceviche. All together, the food cost $15, and neither of us felt anything like proceeding with our plan to "hit up Mario's for a slice" afterward. I'm sort of sad about not going to Mario's, but happy that two appetites were sated and palates pleased, for low cost. The space is attractive, nothing too flashy, opened up a bit from the days of Kurrent "ice bar." A place like Poquitos has it beat for ornateness, what with all their tile and wrought iron, but this place is commensurately less full of itself, just in the way it presents itself, and so far I like the food better here. Staff is attentive and friendly, in that reserved-but-polite-but-approachable way.

I am picky, and a huge Mexican fan. I was skeptical of Fogón. It's logo is bad and there is no way of knowing how to pronounce it. It is in a failed location: Green Papaya, Kurrent and Kiki have all failed in this space. The green walls and minimal remodel don't impress but dude, this place rocks. Order chips and guac and you also get three other salsas including their AMAZING pico de gallo. You will end up requesting more of that for sure. Service here was impeccable. I hear about some shaky opening service but ours was attentive and on top of things despite a big party across the room. I had the dungeonous crab enchilada. I never order that but it was so very good. My companions had a chicken burrito and prawns wrapped in bacon and both were impressed. We are leaving here full and happy. Give it a shot. Fogón deserves a permanent spot here on the hill along with Barrio, Poquitos and the few other excellent Mexican places we have.

This is my "local" as I like to call it. My neighborhood friends and I are here several times/week and bring Cap Hill visitors here as well. The staff is very friendly; they welcome us each time we return, always allow us to sit at our favorite table, remember our drink/food preferences and make us feel happy to be "home." Happy Hour is a great deal- drinks are slightly discounted but the real bargains are the food. Chips and salsa are free (as they always should be), most appetizers are $5 and they still give you a complimentary "amuse-bouche" when you sit down. The salsa is a bit on the hot side. Favorite drinks: Sangria Bartenders margarita (has a bit of cranberry juice!) Favorite food: HH - $5 half plate of nachos w/chicken HH - $5 tortilla soup Dinner - Fajitas I hope that Fogon is here to stay. It's a great addition to the neighborhood.

Seriously, this is some of the best freaking Mexican food I've ever had. The waiter (who was clearly more invested in our experience than just a waiter) told us that they are trying to be Mexican that people haven't had before. It reminded me of the sadly missed Mestizo, which did the same. Out of everything our table ordered, including desert, everything was amazing, barring the enchiladas. They were flavored differently from the cliche entree, which was a choice, not a poor cooking choice. Otherwise, the table had fajitas which were AMAZING, a torta, skirt steak, guac, rice and beans, and two deserts, flan and churros. Look at that list. And believe me when I tell you that it was all fantastic. The happy hour prices were also really impressive, so I'll definitely be back in the evening when I can get cheap nachos on their incredibly thick, crunchy chips, and enjoy a beer. Warm, local, unique, and delicious. It's hard to go wrong.

I love Mexican food and was cautiously optimistic when this place opened. Now it's my favorite in Capitol Hill, and we go there at least once a week. The staff are so friendly and remember us when we come in. The fajitas are great, as is the tortilla soup. They are a fantastic addition to the neighborhood and should be patronized by anyone who enjoys quality Mexican food

I really enjoyed Fogon. The servers were great, just the right amount of attentiveness. My friend and I both had the sangria and we both liked it. I really recommend visiting during happy hour (they have two) as they have quite a few tasty dishes to choose from. They bring out the cute and tasty tostada in the beginning. I ordered the Tilapia and my, was I ever surprised when I got my plate. There was a fair amount of plate envy coming from the other tables. I expected just a filet, but nope...it was the ENTIRE fish, head and all. It was tasty, it could have been a little more seasoned & spicy. It was more than enough fish for three to four separate meals, leftovers and your money's worth you will definitely get if you order this. My friend got the shrimp diablo, and they were great about adjusting the spice level for her. The handmade corn tortillas are really good. You won't be able to eat grocery store tortillas after them.

This place is great. Everything is freshly made- chips, salsa, tortillas, salsa, guacamole, ceviche, etc... You name it. Food is delicious and authentic- not your typical tex-mex that is common around here. The staff is very friendly and eager to please. At first glance the cocktails seem pricy but they are DELICIOUS and made with high quality tequilas. And they have awesome happy hour specials!! No complaints here!!

Yum yum yum! And how lovely that they're open with full kitchen until 2am Fridays and Saturdays. The happy hour deals are really decent, and are available 9pm to close, as well. $5 half order of Nachos was a very large plate (the full order must be HUGE). Fresh, tasty ingredients and lots of melted cheese. *drool* My pal had their burrito which was delicious. I had to try to chicken mole, which I loved very much. One of the better mole sauces I've encountered. Served with dark meat, too, which is nice. Gotta work your way around all the chicken bones, but worth it. And the homemade corn tortillas are lovely. $5 Sangrai. $2 Tecate. Lots of other happy hour deals. And the regular menu prices are perfectly approachable ($10.95 for most entrees). Also, you can get black beans instead of refried. Yay. We were too full to attempt anything further, but they have Churros listed, so next time, my delicious fried cinnamon friend, next time. Our waiter was friendly and efficient. The restaurant portion wasn't super full at 11pm on a Saturday, which was actually great (we could hear ourselves talk), but it still felt warm and inviting. And the bar was pleasantly packed, if you want more of a "crowd." The decor is nice, there's a lime green wall color that, hearing described, doesn't sound nice, but it's not jarring and adds to the "flavor" of the place. Not exactly a color I'd want in my home, but it's nice at the restaurant. Only flaw? Finding the restrooms is a bit difficult (they're behind a giant door right behind the hostess desk, between restaurant and bar sections). There's no real signage and the door looks like an "employees only" type space. There's a tiny "label maker" style tag that says restrooms are for customers only, but that's hard to see when you're wandering around, looking for a place to wash your hands. *smile* The restroom itself had a fancy sink situation, which I enjoyed.

The service is fantastic, very professional and attentive, the ultimate Margarita is superb. .. big fan of margaritas and theirs is truly spectacular. .. no neon green color, hand shaken and one totally helps you to forget the day. ..nachos during happy hour definitely mediocre, hard bench seatiing. .. not exactly relaxing, but service, killer Margarita, definitely one of THE best I've ever had. .. I'll be back to try some house dishes!

Had a big mexican craving the other night before seeing a show at the Paramount. All the yelp review pictures on my phone looked really good and the reviews seemed to be good to so we decided to check it out. It was thursday night so it wasn't very busy, we sat down right away in the bar area. The waitress was nice and friendly. I started with a mint mango margarita, it was delicious! We had the chips and salsa trio app to start as well. I order 2 chicken enchiladas and my boyfriend got tacos el carbon. About a couple minutes after we ordered we had a special delivery to our table. The guy working there came over to us and told us it was a special treat for only special people, completely free of charge. It was like a big chip with some salsa and avocado on it i think. It was really tasty whatever it was! :D so thank you! Literally about 10 minutes after we ordered our food was on our table which was ok with me because I know I was starving. My enchiladas were delicious, I was pretty stuffed so I got the rest of it to go. Being in Seattle when they brought out my box of course it was compastable/bio degradable LOL. Definitely would come back here, pretty cool little spot!

We came here on a Saturday night. Very full, even for late night. I don't think my food was complete, and one thing that stands out is the noise level was very loud. Could barely here the thoughts in my own head. The chicken is good, so are the drinks.

I have been here twice now and the second time was as amazing as the first. To being with, the staff is awesome. Super friendly and quick. They are giving out a free tostada for each person right now and they are super yummy. The menu choices are varied and there seems to be something for everyone. The street tacos as just like what you would get in Mexico. The burritos are good as well, my boyfriend gets them and loves them. The chips as thick, which was a bit odd at first, but the deliciousness overcame that. The guacamole was to die for as well. So far I am super happy with this place and it is my go to Mexican from now on. The spiked horchata and sangria are both amazing too! Please check this place out.

I've been living in Seattle for over 13 years, and this is my favorite Mexican restaurant by far. they serve the kind of salsa I love (which is spicy). I've tried several dishes there and have never been disappointed. My favorite is the Tortilla Soup - stir salsa into it, and it's amazing. My husband always tries something different, and it's always great. He really loves this place too. Bonus: when I come in for brunch, they serve HUGE mimosas. Honestly, the only (extremely minor) complaint I have is that the music is not my thing. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it's like cheesy soft rock/ top 40 music in Spanish, and it just does not fit in very well with Capitol Hill. However, this is such a tiny complaint. Otherwise, the ambiance is great. They did an excellent job decorating the place. The service has always been top notch. Love love love this restaurant!

I had never been here before and didn't know what to expect. The street tacos were incredible. The carne asada was perfectly grilled and it tasted so authentic. And enough for a full meal for me. The margaritas deserve their own rating. The ultimate margarita has its own cocktail shaker and you have your own personal champagne style glass to pour it into. The most fun way to have a cocktail...ever. I'll be back again and am telling everyone i know. Delicious and a great price!

I'm head over heels for this place, why did it take me so long! We were immediately greeted by several friendly people. We were encouraged to make ourselves comfortable in the bar where we again met attentive and friendly staff. We had some drinks at the bar and awesome chips with a variety of salsas. When we were seated we were brought fresh chips and drinks and the delivery of food was quick, hot, colorful and very flavorful. What a great place!

Great option for Mexican in the Capitol Hill area of Seattle. Nice to have their ceviche. A delicious and refreshing dish you can't find in too many places in Seattle. Happy hours are good and very reasonably priced. Would return if i'm in the area.

Best sit down Mexican food join on the hill, if not all of Seattle. (I put my boxing gloves on and am ready for you). Super authentic flavors even if not all the dishes are. It can be a bit loud so don't go there for a romantic quiet evening. Get the lengua, it's fantastic. BONUS: Super strong drinks. One margarita had me swimming!

Upon being seated we were each given one bean tostada -- a yummy little fried corn tortilla with a thin layer of beans, cabbage, queso cotija, creme and salsa rosa. We started with the queso fundido with the chorizo and cilantro (another option is with carne asada, poblano strips, and corn). It comes with freshly made soft hand-made tortillas. I also asked for corn chips. I did not like the quesadilla fritas -- they were greasy and bland tasting. My husband's pollo a la creme was really good -- may be a bit too much cheese in the sauce (and I'd hold the mushrooms if possible). The chicken isn't served in strips as on the menu but rather different sized chunks -- nonetheless the chicken was very moist and mixed in with poblanos, red peppers, mushrooms, and corn and a chipotle cream sauce. Comes with more of the otherworldly soft tortillas, rice and black beans. My husband enjoyed his ultimate margarita -- which comes in a small (Marie Antoinette type) glass but also the large shaker in which a a double-sized serving is prepared. The service wasn't very attentive - but we'll still come back.

I usually come for the great $5 HH deals but this food is worth the price at anytime. Good quality, very filling. You always get a complimentary appetizer before you order. I recommend the tortilla soup and ceviche for sure. All the other dishes are solid as well. The margarita is pretty good but I love their $5 sangria that tastes like starburst.

Stopped in for chips, guacamole and a margarita. The drinks were strong so if I was eating on just that and the chips it'd be a 5 but served in those little dainty glasses and the guacamole tasted like the frozen one remade at the supermarket. Those two are enough to bring it down to 3 sorry - those are important to me and I know my friends - if you come at least you'll know what to expect.

Service wasn't top notch but they definitely took care of us. The margaritas were great. Came with extra refills in the shaker. I'm used to green chile not a Verde salsa on my burritos. Very tasty, ate the whole thing. My sister ordered the chicken street tacos which had grilled chicken. Very good street tacos. Must try! They make the corn tortillas in house.

I love this place. Their happy hour can't be beat (and it's twice a day!). PROTIP: the "regular order of nachos" are the exact same size as the "1/2 order nachos" on the happy hour/lunch special menu.

Great food. I love it here. They bring out these amazing little tostada which is bomb. I order the tortilla soup and a have order of nachos. It's sooooo good. Everything I've ordered. I'm really picky about my ceviche. (I'm obsessed with ceviche) The one here is just okay. I wouldn't order it again. It's shrimp and veggies. I ate it all but it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. I'm giving 5stars bc I love everything else about this place. The staff is amazing and very very friendly. The atmosphere is perfect. I'll definitely be back soon.

The best Mexican food I have had in Seattle to date! All the ingredients were fresh, the food was flavorful, the drink menu was impressive, and the prices were reasonable. Free chips and salsa are not served, but each person receives a free appetizer, which was a nice (and tasty) surprise. I was immediately impressed upon walking through the front door and seeing someone there making fresh tortillas- probably the best I have ever had- and our entrees did not disappoint. My ceviche was perfect and the portion was quite generous; my husband had a variety of tacos and they were all excellent as well. The ambiance in Fogon was another plus; the servers were quick and friendly, the decor was classy, and the place was VERY clean (always a good sign). We will definitely be back on one of our next Seattle trips!

Came here with my other half when we were attending a concert (who you ask? THE PIXIES!). We actually had reservations at another place but when we walked by this place we knew we had to change our plans! Glad we did, the service and ambiance were both great! We happened to be there during happy so our drinks were a little cheaper (yahoo!) but we ordered food from the regular menu. I had a very tasty shrimp Caesar salad (came with black beans and avocado). The husband got a carne asada burrito, the meat was a little bland however. Oh...the chips and salsa were tasty too! Will definitely come back when in the area next!

I've been back a handful of times to Fogon since my initial visit and it's very solid. The food is great and reasonably priced. Downsides- service can be spotty and it is gets LOUD. So loud that you can barely hear your table mates unless you're right next to the person. The happy hour is excellent. They have the ultimate margarita for $8 and several $5 happy hour food items including the half plate of nachos which is actually a full plate of deliciousness. You get your choice of meat in the $5 price which is unheard of. Everything I've had at Fogon has been tasty and fresh. Highly recommend this spot for dinner, happy hour, drinks, whatever! The nachos are not to be missed. I prefer this place over other similar Mexican joints on the Hill.

Fogon is the marvelous-est, delicious-est Mexican Restaurant we have found in Seattle! They have a wonderous cheese-eater/cheeseless-eater version of all of the usually carnivorous delights-even Tamales!!!!!!!!!!! The meals are beautifully and minimally presented and satisfying, rather than the often encountered plateful of goop.

This place rocks! I've been here three times now and each time the food was fantastic. Service can be a little slow at times but it always comes with a smile and a free tostada! Love that they have agua de Jamaica and the ceviche is super fresh. Happy Hour prices are insanely good and there are TVs on the wall so you can come and watch the game. It's also awesome that some of their lunch options are paired with beers or drinks. $8 for a full entree and a beer? Sold!

My friends and I were wandering Cap Hill and decided to check this place out because we were craving Mexican food. As we walked into the restaurant it was packed and we had a few parties ahead of us (which is a good sign I guess). We waited for about 20 minutes and were seated at a table just in time for happy hour! The waiter was friendly and took our drink orders and came back with chips and salsa and a veggie tostada an appetizer? Nothing too special. As for the drink, the sangria was really good in my opinion. Not too much juice. The food portions here are pretty generous for happy hour! I got the tortilla soup and it could have easily been shared with 2-3 people. The broth was tasty but I wished that the tortilla chips were but into more smaller pieces and maybe have less put in. I got the carne asada sopitos which was ok. It came with 3 of them and I was only able to finish 1. Like I said, very generous portions. The friend got the ceviche and chicken tacos and really loved both. I tried the ceviche and picked out the shrimps since I'm allergic and really liked the flavor of it. It was fresh and had the right the amount of flavors. This was probably my favorite dish of the night. Overall I can definitely see myself coming here again for Happy hour. Come with a group of people and order a bunch of things to share

Happy hour is great! 3-6 & 9-close. Half order nachos is still large. Tortilla soup is the bomb!! I always get these and sangria too! Try the margaritas. They're great too. And the tacos are definitely tasty!

HOLY CRAP!! They have the best ceviche!! It's massive in size, filling and its only $5 during happy hour!! I could easily eat two or three of these ceviches by myself!! I also like their happy hour sangria. The place is great for groups too!

Definitely rated higher than it should be. Overpriced and tiny tacos, flavorless torta with soggy bread, and a super underwhelming salad that came with the dish. This visit confirmed one thing that I have been speculating: avoid "high-end" establishments for Mexican food or else you will be met with mediocrity. You're much better off eating at a hole-in-the wall place when wanting delicious, authentic Mexican food.

Yeeeesh! This is the new King of Mexican food in Seattle according to a white person with more than one Mexican friend. I used to be practically fluent in Spanish, for dios' sake. Just a lot of really cool attention to detail and uniqueness in this establishment. Walk in, there's a little stand where an employee is cooking up crack aka fresh tortillas. Sit down, and a dude comes running out with a free tostada with refried beans, cheese, cabbage, and salsa (But how did he even know we just sat down? He emerged from the back of the restaurant like the patron saint of people sitting down at this restaurant). Eat that and within 30 seconds of sitting down in this place and you've already been served something good quality for free. The menu is what I suppose a pretentious hipster who served in the PeaceCorps in Mexico for 20 months would say is "really authentic," but I cannot validate that nor do I care to. What I mean is that the menu has the favorites, but also some unique heat, and I'm pretty sure that any human can find something they love on it. Before ordering, I heard a Prince Royce song that I'm a sucker for (Corazon Sin Cara) and I mentally danced bachata right there in front of everyone with that same lady that was making tortillas when I walked in. Oh the glory. We ordered seafood enchiladas and flautas and everything was unreal. It's like, how fucking good can a flauta be, my guy? Well, the answer here is really fucking good. I can't even really write about the seafood enchiladas on here because I'm already starting to get aroused and there are other people in this room and shit could get awkward. Just know that I brought home leftovers so my dad could try it, but he wasn't hungry and put them in the fridge for the next day, and I said fuck that and ate them. I don't know how we got here. Sorry my pals. This is a good restaurant, though.

Review based on Happy Hour: I stumbled upon this place after a night of drinking and karaoke, and boy oh boy...my stomach was thankful! The late night happy hour runs from 9 to close and I highly recommend trying the "Tostadas de Tinga" -- 3 tostadas with fresh chicken, cheese, cabbage and some other goodness I can't recall. This is probably the BEST $5 I've ever spent. I wasn't sure if the food was so good because it had been a long night of drinking, so I went back a few days later and confirmed it's definitely that delicious. My boyfriend had the tacos and enchiladas and was a fan. I also had the Tortilla Soup, which was quite large... more like a dinner sized bowl of soup, so you could almost JUST order that if you were in the mood for soup. You can't go wrong with this place. The food is awesome, the staff is friendly, and the ambiance is great.

This is my once a week happy hour spot. Good margarita, good n cheap ceviche, tasty tacos and sopitos. The bartender and staff on the bar side are friendly. Not sure what else to say. Happy hour!!!

This place is seriously awesome. First off, it's pretty big for restaurants in the area. They have a lot of 2-person tables, which is great if you're a party of 2. Bigger parties were waiting a long time even though it wasn't super busy. That was the only downside, though. The food was great. I highly recommend getting Guacamole and chips and salsa. It was simply great. Guacamole - Excellent. I don't know how to describe it, but it was the best restaurant guacamole I've had in a long time. It was avocado-y, but still seasoned well. It wasn't runny or watered down with tomatoes, which, to me, is the hallmark of a perfect guac. Their chips are crisp, fresh, and thicker than usual. They hold up well to the guacamole and salsa, which was awesome. Salsa - It was pretty spicy for restaurant house salsa, which was amazing. It was slightly darker than normal salsa, and was a little smokey and unique. Burrito - It was big, fresh and the Carne Asada was amazing, tender, and well-seasoned.

Came for late night tacos. The complimentary tostada was nice. The service was pretty slow, but friendly. The carne asada, and al pastor tacos (3/$8.95) were great. Would have liked to try the salsa but no one ever asked if they could get me some. Would like to try again during the day.

Hands down the best bang for your buck in Capitol Hill. Truly amazing food and a happy hour you just can't say "no" to. The servers are super friendly. During happy hour leave with a full belly and a nice buzz for less than $20, can't say that about any other place on the hill. Best part is the fresh made tortillas, which can be seen being made by the lady in the corner of the restaurant. Just go!!!! Enjoy!!!!

Best steak fajitas on the planet, hands down. Steak is marinated in beer, wine AND tequila. It melts in your mouth. Margaritas are delicious. Free sopas appetisers are amazing and worth paying for in and of themselves. It's my favourite Mexican restaurant in the NW- and I've eaten a lot of Mexican food.

Food Review: When you type in Best Mexican food Seattle on Google, Fogon Cocina Mexicana shows up! I would have to agree that this place brings Mexican food to another level on Capitol Hill! The wonderful light tostada is fresh and warm for your enjoyment before the meal. They do not have free chips and Salsa like other Mexican places, but this appetizer is a great way to start your meal. Everything is fresh! Homemade Corn Tortillas are to die for! There Tamales have so much flavour and excellent temperature when the came out. There flavour for each dish are unique and delightful. The Carne Asada is simply down with lots of flavour. Their salsa and Guacamole are great compliments to every dish. I would recommend trying a new dish every time. So far I have not been disappointed! Dessert: Their rice pudding on a cool evening is a great way to end the night! Don't miss out on that!

This place is super underrated and I forget about it too often/I avoid because parking is hard. Great hispanic cocktail menu of drinks that are not just margaritas. I like the basic Cuba Libra served in the Mexican Coke Bottle. They usually give you a free bite when you sit down but the chips and salsa are extra but, worth it. The tacos and enchiladas are really good with authentic flair. But I highly advise the chilaquiles! These are spot on to the ones I was addicted to in Mexico. Basically saucy tomatillo nachos with eggs , avocado and Mexican Cotija cheese. What I really like is that the prices are excellent and a great bang for the buck. The only thing I don't like are the tortilla which are little too thick but I do love the fresh tortillas when the machine is running.

This place is AMAZING! My boyfriend and I came here during happy hour, so we got $5 entree plates! I got the Tacos Pollo Asada, he got the Torta Polla Asada. Both were so good, and pretty big plates! My tacos were perfection, and the bread on his Torta was so soft and yummy! The staff was also really nice, our server ("Latin Lover" was his name on the receipt haha) was so friendly and funny! Definitely coming back for another date night (:

I think this is my favorite HH on the hill. Good food, good drinks, good prices. There are many HH's of quality on cap hill, so picking a few favorites and trying one enough times to know that you really love it takes true diligence. Obviously I'm dedicated to the discovery of that HH of particular quality. I first went to Fogon a year and a half ago, and have been back many times. I've been here to hang out with friends back in town for a short while, to celebrate a Bachelorette party, and to liven my spirits after losing my kitty. It's a nice big space, so the only time I've had trouble getting a seat was on Saturday night during late night hh. They have a few different drink options, my favorites are the sangria for 5 bucks, and the ultimate margarita for 8. The ultimate margarita comes as a full shaker of margarita with a smaller glass. I don't even know how many smaller glasses the shaker will fill, I tend to lose track. They have a solid list of food options, maybe 8-10 items, and they're all 5 bucks. My favorites are the tacos, the flautas, and the tortilla soup. The tortilla soup is huge, a large bowl with large pieces of chicken, many chunks of avocado and big strips of tortilla chips. Great deal, and super tasty. On top of which when you sit down they hand a piece of fried tortilla with a pile of cut up cabbage, salsa, refried beans and crema on top, on the house for every customer. And during hh chips and salsa is free. The service ranges from really nice and attentive to a bit inattentive, but they don't have many servers working the whole restaurant, so that is understandable. Honestly I'm a bit afraid to write this review. I get the feeling Fogon isn't as well known on the hill as it should be, but for selfish reasons I like that. But it's also serves my self interest to see this place flourish and thrive.

How have I not written a review yet? I love Fogon! I've been here at least four times, and it's very consistent. I usually get the street tacos, either chicken or pork, and I really enjoy both. They aren't overwhelmingly greasy, and a squeeze of lime brightens it right up. Paired with the trio of salsas and chips (that you can share, because you're not selfish are you?) and you'll be stuffed. My favorite companion has ordered either the enchiladas verdes or the pollo asado each time, and he loves both. I usually steal a few bites, but I just love tacos so I keep ordering them! They do tend to do a cheese sprinkle on top of their beans, so if you avoid cheese make sure they know. The interior is bright and colorful, and if you sit by one of the large windows when it's open you'll feel like you're outside (when it's warm that's a good thing). The bar side is a little noisier than the dining room side, but I didn't feel overwhelmed. Flat entrance (on a steep hilly street, though). Tables can accommodate a manual wheelchair user & allow their legs to go beneath (or as I say: "I'm parked!"). The spiked horchata drink is super tasty, highly recommended.

As first time visitors to Seattle, we weren't sure how the mexican food would be, but we were pleasantly surprised. There seems to be a fair amount of mexican restaurants around, with several on Pine Street alone. We went with Fogon because of the positive Yelp reviews and I must say that we were satisfied. Despite the fact that one of our 5 hosts/hostesses couldn't seem to get us over to the right table without an issue, we finally got a seat around 9:15PM. Thanks to the late night happy hour, the prices were very cheap. We went with a combo of the street tacos and some fresh made chips and gauc. The gauc was fantastic. Drink wise, the wife had a house margarita that was good and very strong. I had a Tecate and lime. Service was quick and generally friendly. Unfortunately our table was a bit crammed next to our neighbors, but they weren't annoying, so we didn't mind. Overall, the prices and the food can't be beat.

Some of the best Mexican I've had in Seattle. Such an amazing happy hour! The Sopitas, Tortialla Soup, Ceviche, Street Tacos... all amazing $5 happy hour specials that can serve as a meal on their own! I also love their margaritas, which are a great happy hour deal at $8 for a tumbler full of margarita. I like the ultimate margarita with chili infused tequila - so good! 4 stars because the service isn't always the best, and I've seen them mess up my order a coupe of times.

Absolutely delicious! I'm from New Mexico where Mexican food is the staple. This is the most authentic restaurant I've found in Seattle yet. It's atmosphere is beautiful with Mexican music in the background, tortilla station in the corner. You won't go wrong with anything you order. Fresh ingredients, amazing salsa. Priced just right.

I'm actually surprised there's not more reviews for Fogon. I live about a block away and I love going to their late night happy hour. It goes from 9pm to close, and since I work till 9 Mon-Friday it works great! They have a tequila shot and 32oz mexican beer deal for $10! It's my go-to after a rough day. They always give you complimentary tostadas with beans, cabbage, and salsa on them! Super yummy! The service is always really great there! I've gotten quite a few different servers and never had any complaints. If I were going to complain about anything it's you have to order the chips and salsa, but it's still free so whatever. All the food is fresh! I love the civeche. Mm MM! Try it! You'll like it :)

I got the ceviche for lunch. It was really good and fresh. The service is also really good. Prompt service and nice seating next to the open area. The lunch prices were not too bad but this is a more upscale mexican food location. Around 8 - 13 for lunch and mixed drinks around 8 bucks. I think it is a nice place to try out though on a beautiful day before walking down to downtown -- it was about a 10-15 min walk to the waterfront.

Continuing my wife's absence our friend set up dinner with a few of her friends and friends' friends and we went here! I'm not one for mass socialization, but when in Rome...Anyway, this place used to be Kiki and apparently before that Kurrent. Anyway, to the review! For a Thursday night, this place was buzzing with tons of people coming and going. Their dinner menu appears to be on the slim side, but what selections they had seemed to be pretty decent. Several people in our group ordered the ceviche while others got tortas. I went for the carne racherita with the house made flour tortillas. Don't know what it is? Check it out on their online menu. It looked like curry, people thought it was carne asada, but there was plenty more flavors. Fogón has a decent drink menu and the selection of tequilas was admirable. I'm not an avid tequila drinker, but I am somewhat of a liquor connoisseur and I like seeing how extensive of a collection places have. I ordered a Don Julio Añejo, and for $12 it was just what I needed to get over my sudden shock of being thrown into a social situation I was never prepared for. I'd give Fogón a try if you're in the neighborhood, but forget about finding parking nearby. Street parking is all you'll get and driving around the block a few times might help...or not. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to get here, but the food and atmosphere is worth coming back if others wanted to go.

The Good-One of my favorite places for Mexican food in the Hill. Their drink and food happy hour is amazing! The Bad- The service is inconsistent.. Sometimes it's good, and other times it's horrendous, tons of attitude and you have to ask for things 2-3 times.

I've been here twice for happy hour and it's a safe place to go for a guaranteed good night out. It's not one of those sketchy Mexican places so you can feel good about not getting sick the next day and the prices are still good. The free tostada appetizer is awesome. The place can get a little loud when it's crowded. Overall, it's just a clean and dependable Mexican spot.

Fogon serves up fantastic and fresh-tasting Mexican food at a great price with loads of friendly smiles. Why have I never heard or seen this place until now? My bf and I stumbled upon this place and decided to give it a go. I love the tortilla station right by the entrance. We all got a complimentary delicious tostadas de tinga. We ordered trio of salsas and totopos, vegetarian tamales, and sopa de camaron. All three salsas were fresh and tasty. I think my bf would have liked them (or at least some of them) hotter. The chips were much more like pita chips. They were thick, crunchy, and quite tasty. Two BIG tamales filled with lots of poblano peppers, corn and queso ranchero showed up at our table. I did not care for the salsa on the side. However, I ate one with the roja (one of the trio salsas), and it was fantastic. The best dish I tasted was hands-down the sopa de camaron. The soup was piping hot and loaded with prawns. I was craving for something hot and comforting, and this soup totally fit the bill. It came with chopped onion, cilantro, and a wedge of lime, which added all wonderful flavours to the super soul-warming broth. Although we were pretty stuffed, we really wanted to try their fresh tortilla. Our server was kind enough to bring us 3 corn tortillas to taste (free of charge!!), and boy, were they delicious!! Unlike your typical dry and coarse corn tortilla, theirs were were soft, pliable, and subtly sweet. I loooooooooooooove dipping them in the soup. I know I am going back there for more!!

I tend to avoid places like Forgon. I am not usually a fan of the upscale, expensive American-Mexican places popping up all over Seattle. I don't even like the cities beloved Carta de Oaxaca. Give me a taqueria any day. Fogon though? Really good. They start you off with a mini appetizer of a bean tostada. Which I was super impressed with. It was delicious! I then ordered their Ultimate Margarita and their chorizo and papas flautas from the happy hour menu. The flautas were delicious! I really enjoyed them. They also gave our table some chips and salsa. I liked that the salsa wasn't chunky, and had just enough spiciness. I also loved the fresh-fried chips. Don't know if I would come here for dinner, but I will definitely be back for Happy Hour.

I have been coming here pretty much it opened. Over the past few months the quality of service has declined sharply. I typically order Albondigas. The last few times I have had to send it back to the kitchen as it was undercooked. Today I ordered a half bowl (which I have ordered before, only today it was half of the size I have got in the past.) That and a bartenders margarita came to $17.47. Do not expect qualitu service unless you are a young hot male

We tried few plates such as; Lengua en Salsa Verde, Flautas, Guacamole, Street Tacos, Enchiladas Verdes y Queso con Chorizo...... a large variety of appetizers and entries but my recommendation is...this is a place with great margaritas ;-) and appetizers ONLY ... do not expect great Mexican Cousine flavor or an exquisite taste.... they have GOOD mexican food but not for your first option if you really want enjoy an authentic Mexican Dinner....just a good happy hour mexican bar!

My second try here. Very meh. Not impressed with the ingredients or the recipes. It's nice and big and seems like it would be good for a group. I've tried the tacos, tamales, and ceviche, and found them all okay but not satisfying. Drinks are also middle of the road.

Had the grilled fish tacos. They were pretty flavorless. The black bean side was better than the tacos. Their computer system was down, so they couldn't take credit cards or give us a bill/receipt. We were warned prior to ordering.

What? I have not written a review for this place yet? I guess it slipped my mind which is absolutely no excuse. I was here some time ago and all I remember is that I enjoyed the food and drinks. Steve and I were here again recently and once again enjoyed our meal here. The complimentary tostadas were as fantastic as our first meal here compared to our second. The Enchiladas Rojas is what I ordered and were wonderful! The steak slices along with potatoes that accompanied my dish were great! The rice and beans were fresh and tasted authentic! Steve got a Carne Ranchirito which was also equally tasty and good! For drinks I got the Bloody Maria which was like a Bloody Mary but had tequila in it instead. Steve's margarita was also very good! I have to admit that I do not know the Mexican food scene in Capital Hill as well asI would like to admit but the food here is fresh and authentic which is the main criterion for any restaurant that I am evaluating! Really tasty food!

This place has pretty good Mexican food. Instead of chips and salsa they bring out a tostada? I think that's what its called? They have people making fresh tortilla when you enter the restaurant which is pretty cool. Got the carne asada. The steak is very flavorful and tender. I am a sucker for rice and beans and theirs is pretty freaking good. Margaritas are strong yet yummy. I would come back. Their prices are pretty comparable to other Mexican restaurants in the area.

Came here for dinner while on vacation. They don't offer free chips and salsa so we ordered them - but then turns out that they are free during happy hour and our server failed to mention this which pissed us off. I ordered chicken street tacos and they were really good. They have a tortilla lady making fresh tortillas. I like the fact that they have large bottles of water on the table so you can help yourself. Besides the chips and salsa situation - I was happy with the meal. Reasonably priced and very yummy.

The happy hour here is amazing! They don't hold back on the tequila in the margaritas so usually one and I am done! I love the chicken tortilla soup and get a huge bowl for $5! I actually came here 2x last weekend, that's how much I crave this place!

I've been suffering too long from the Seattle Mexican food drought, and had all but given up hope when I found this place. My typical barometer for a Mexican restaurant is how well they do a simple plate of refried beans and rice, and Fogón is the first place in Seattle I've been that gets it right! Fuck, everything was delicious from the ceviche to the guacamole to the carne asada. Sorry Barrio, Fogón is better (and much more reasonably priced). Thanks for freeing me of my Mexican food withdrawals, I'll definitely be back.

Hands down the best steak fajitas I have ever eaten. Steak, peppers, onions, and mushrooms swimming in a delectable sauce makes each bite burst with flavor. My cucumber mojito was spot on too. I was there with a reserved party of about 20 people. My only complaint that brought the rating to 4 stars is that the service could have been a bit better. With a party this large who was obviously here for a celebration, it would have been nice to be asked if we wanted additional rounds of drinks, etc.. It seemed we had to initiate contact with our server more often than the server would actively check in on us. I bet our bill (and subsequent tip) would have been much larger if we would have had a chance to order some more cocktails. Also, this place is LOUD! It was pretty hard to hear conversations around you. All in all, though, this is an extremely solid establishment. I will definitely go back.

I have to admit it... I must be one of the very few people that doesn´t like mexican food, at least the americanized mexican food that is served in pretty much all mexican restaurants in the country (you know, layers of cheese on top that don´t let you see what underneath, spiciness even in the water...) Now I am happy to have found a mexican restaurant who serves good mexican food. The Enchilada de Jaiba is wonderful. The homemade tortilla chips don´t need any sauce to be devoured. Yummy! Great price, good sizes (the antojitos are as big as an entree), nice service... Totally reccomendable.

Without a doubt my favorite Mexican restaurant in all of Seattle. After living in the building above this restaurant for almost two years, I can't even begin to count the number of times I've eaten at Fogon, and every single time was delicious. Everything on the menu is amazing. No seriously, everything. Plus the staff and owners are incredibly nice people, who always come say hello even when I'm just getting takeout. Ceviche, guacamole and the carne asada plate are my go to's, but I've never been disappointed with a single dish. If you live in Seattle and you haven't been here yet, stop what you're doing and go right now. Oh and bonus points for their awesome, super cheap happy hour.

I've had the fajitas here along with chips, salsa, and guacamole. The food is good, there's a nice variety of drinks, and the service is quick. If you're looking for quality Mexican food with a good place to sit, look no further.

This place is awesome super flavorful! The Carne Asada is great, everything I have ever had has been fantastic. They make their tortillas fresh. I can't say enough about it! Oscar was our server tonight & we enjoyed his service and recommendations. Try it & enjoy!

Vegetarians, be warned: this place has almost nothing for you. The menu is small and includes a variety of chicken and beef dishes but the majority of categories don't have anything without meat. Even the nachos include meat. Not worth my time to try and track down a vegetarian option or special order it. And a restaurant that doesn't accommodate different dietary preferences is not worth my business.

The avocados were underripe. Guacamole and chips needed salt. The tostadas had a cheese that smelled very unpleasant, as a bonus they topped the entrees with that too. The water was lukewarm. Service was pushy - one appetizer wasn't enough I suppose. The fajitas came with three tiny tortillas. The fajita chicken was good.

I used to live right around the corner from this place and ate there more than I'd like to admit. Now, it's a happy hour destination. Their happy hour really can't be beat. You'll find me with a $5 plate of ceviche and an $8 shaker full of margarita. Other pluses: friendly staff, fun vibe, tons of places nearby to go out after.

I've been to Fogon a few time now and the food always rocks. The happy hour nachos always hit the spot and I love that they always horchata. The ceviche is also delicious and is a great deal during happy hour. The only gripe I have would be regarding service. It can be painfully slow at times, even on a random Sunday afternoon. It took a very long time to take our drinks order then another very long wait before they realized they hadn't taken a food order. I hope they can figure it out as the food isn't good enough to withstand the frustrations of too slow service.

Best Mexican food since I've left Southern California... Stopped in for lunch yesterday on my way to class and was pleasantly surprised how amazing the food was for the price. They offer a lunch menu and the prices are sooo cheap for the amount of food you get and the quality you get it at. I had the torta and soup and they were both delicious. Best tortilla soup I've ever had. The complimentary appetizer was sooo good, and such a nice touch! The staff is friendly and helpful and it was just a lovely experience. THANK YOU! :)

Absolutely one of my favorite places. Their milenesa (sp?) is very delicious and fills you up without feeling bloated. Best is their churroz, get the caramel flavor.

This place is right next to my condo building so on a whim I decided to go here with my boyfriend. Luckily it was late night happy hour starting at 9! It was pretty busy but we were seated quickly. The staff was extremely attentive bringing out warm chips and salsa and a little tostada appetizer on the house for each of us (not something you come across anymore these days!) The happy hour menu surprisingly had a really good selection and the food we ordered didn't disappoint. We both ordered margaritas and they were great definitely didn't skimp out on the tequila like some places do. I ordered the sangria as well which was okay, I've definitely had better. When it comes to atmosphere, food, and margs this is an awesome place to go!

If you want incredible, value, quality, and service then I highly recommend FOGON. Everything I have ordered has been so very delicious and I am super picky about Mexican food. Also they have HAPPY HOUR TWO TIMES A DAY. Yes. Yes, they do. First round 3-6 Second round 9-close Food and drink specials. There drinks are especially problematic being that they are delicious, cheap, and strong. Staff here is always warm, helpful, and attentive. You can always count of Fogon and everyone who goes there knows what a gem it is! Its an excellent place to take a person that is hard to please or just really an excellent place to take people.

Yummy Mexican food, good service and hits that sweet spot between casual and fancy. Went out with my wife and another couple, got seated right away (b/c we made a reservation) and had drinks before a few minutes were even complete. Instead of chips and salsa they serve this small tostada as an amuse-bouche, which is a nice touch and avoids me getting all full on tortilla chips. We all shared the ceviche, which was delicious - very fresh flavors and herbs, totally worth ordering. I got a 1/2 bowl of the tortilla chicken soup which had just a bit of kick to it, but could have used more. For dinner I got the carne asada street tacos, which were every bit as good as the folks in other reviews say. There are 3 tacos and small corn tortillas, all of which are made on-site. In fact, you can see the lady making them at a station on the side of the dining room, which I think is a nice touch. Nothing's too huge so we even had room for dessert. We shared choco-flan and the churroz between the table. Personally I enjoyed the churroz more than the flan, but it's not bad as flan goes. Love that there's some better Mexican places in Seattle now as that's one thing we're sorely lacking in, cuisine-wise.

Best Mexican food ever!!! Try the mariscos enchiladas: shrimp, real crab, and scallop enchiladas smothered in a creamy chipotle sauce!! Yea, life changing! The margaritas are good too!

I can not say enough about Fogon! This place is just fantastic the food is wonderful, service is great and their drinks are wonderful! We have gone here several times for birthday events or just to hang out with a group of people. The restaurant is in a great location so once you find street parking you can leave your car and walk around to bar hop. When you first come in they give you a little tostada salad . Try their house spicy tequila, its wonderful and their carne asada is great! They are fast to seat you and the service is awesome!

What an awesome new affordable Mexican restaurant! I came here with a group of four. We made a reservation with Open Table, but it wouldn't have been an issue to get a table on a weekday evening. After we were seated, we were brought small fried tortillas with beans, cheese, and salsa - a tasty little extra starter! For drinks, I had the sangria ($7.50), which was good but on the sweeter side. My dinner mates had margaritas (~$10) and Pacifico on tap ($4) and everyone was happy! We ordered the chips and three salsas (~$4) and guacamole (~$5) to start. The chips were very fresh. The three salsas were a pico de gallo, a tomatillo salsa, and a spicier red salsa - all three were really good. The guacamole was also really good. It's also a bit annoying when you have to pay for chips and salsa at a restaurant, but the price wasn't bad and they refilled the chips and salsa throughout the night at no extra charge. To eat, I had the lengua en salsa verda (~$12), which was really good - the meat was flavorful and tender. It came with beans and rice and tortillas, so I made my own tacos and was very happy! My fiance had the carne asada burrito (~$11), which was huge and came with a generous topping of guacamole, cheese, and salsa. He really enjoyed his burrito. My other dining companions had a shrimp dish and a chicken dish and both said they were good. We all left overstuffed and happy! Per a Yelp tip, we parked a block and a half away at the Seattle Community College garage for $5 - very easy and the same price as taking the bus! We will definitely be back as the food was really good and affordable with an overall nice ambiance. We will have to try happy hour sometime as they have several $5 dishes including nachos, chicken tacos, and a few others plus drink specials - 3-6 PM and 9 PM - close.

Good late night food. Kind of a neighborhood vibe. The shrimp ceviche is the best I've had in Seattle. Not that I've had much ceviche in Seattle.

Fogón Cocina Mexicana is a reflected experience of enjoying my Grandmother's cooking in the heart of Mexico. The taste and quality of the food is what represents Mexico and its delicious flavors and dishes at its best! The tortillas are freshly hand made out in the open for the consumer to appreciate the quality of their preparation. The Micheladas (type of Bloody Mary but with Beer) are as perfect as they come. Must try! This place is definitely not intended to disappoint people who know good food. The venue itself is casually elegant, well maintained and welcoming. The service was very pleasant as well. Gary was our server,he was gracefully attentive and friendly. If you're ever in Seattle you definitely need to visit this fabulous authentic Mexican restaurant.

Wow! This place is amazing. After frequenting different Mexican restaurants from the Pacific Northwest down to Cali towards Arizona and New Mexico, I was very impressed with my meal at fogon. I ordered the milanesa, a lightly crusted chicken breast with rice and beans. Yum, heavenly!

*Awful service, just slow and uninspired, had to ask for chips & salsa, was charged 4 bucks for it, had to ask for hot sauce, took an hour to get food and check and there was 4 other people in the place *caesar salad side with my two little dinky tacos, caesar was awful, watery and flavorless, my glass had carmex baked on it too *my co-worker had a margarita, she said it was a watery mess, don';t think I will ever go back here, too many better places

I must admit that out of all the Mexican food restaurants that I've been to/are popular on cap hill-- Poquitos, Barrios-- Fogón is my favorite place to grab food. Granted, I've only been here to catch up with friends during their happy hour (which are daily, from 3-6pm & 9-close) & have only gotten food/ drinks that are on the HH menu. Their free appetizer is delicious & makes you excited to get the rest of your meal; they offer free chips & salsa (DELICIOUSly toasty chips-- incredibly addicting); and they really FEED you. They don't skimp on their HH menu items at all, and I've always been more than satisfied with the fullness of my stomach after grubbing on their ceviche or their tacos. As for their beverages, their ultimate margarita really is delicious & refreshing as is their sangria. I *truly* enjoy their sangria. Some other perks include ample seating, wonderful staff, and fun/ bright/ lovely decor. YAY thanks for being in existence, Fogón!

  • Alicia K.

My whole experience started with a compimentary tostada.. simple and tasty! The decor is kinda cheesy but their food is great. I love their house salsa and the enchiladas Rojo is a go-to! Their el Toro cocktail is definitely spicy so be ready, and their 'pour yourself' margaritas are fun (impractical but fun). They have some outdoor seating too... this place is great! :)

Having lived in both Southern California and Texas, I have had a fair amount of mexican food in my life. Fogon Cocina is right up there with the best. Tortilla chips are fresh and flavorful, salsa is among the spiciest you will find in all of Seattle, guacamole was fresh and tasty. The chicken burrito lunch special was terrific and the free appitizer was a nice touch. The atmosphere and ambience are inviting. I will definitely be back.

I came here at happy hour for a friend's birthday. The server was very friendly and even gave my friend a free shot for her 21st! They had a good selection of food and reasonably priced drinks on their happy hour menu. Though, I wish they included descriptions of what is included with each dish, rather than just the names. If you visit you MUST try their alcoholic horchata if you enjoy sweet drinks, it was delicious! My friends got the jalapeno margarita and the cucumber martini, both which were outstanding. I don't even like margaritas normally, but their jalapeno margarita had so much flavor that it didn't taste overwhelmingly like tequila. Unfortunately none of their mixed drinks were on the happy hour menu. Though, they had a great selection of drinks on the happy hour menu that I'll definitely have to try next time I visit. They also give out free chips and salsa at happy hour, and will refill them as many times as you want. I really enjoyed this since most places now charge you to get chips and salsa. For food I tried out the chicken torta and 1/2 nachos on happy hour, and both were pretty great. The nachos were a bit plain, but had a lot of cheese and were pretty large for happy hour sizes. The chicken torta was fantastic! It was full of flavor and the best part is that it was large and filling. I ended up with way too much food since I was expecting the happy hour plates to be small, like most other places, and was pleasantly surprised! If you're looking for a reasonably priced happy hour with a good amount of food (instead of small plates) definitely try this place out. Though, don't have high expectations for their nachos unless you're drunk. Then you'll probably absolutely love their nachos (and everything else).

Pretty dang good! We'd never been to Fogon, so to be safe, even though it was past eight on a weekday evening, we made reservations through OpenTable. Parking is, of course, a nightmare on The Hill, so we lucked out on finding street parking right in front of Fogon (though if we had to, there was paid $5 parking available nearby in the Seattle Central Community College garage). The restaurant was about half full when we entered. We mentioned to the hostess at the door that we had reservations and she seemed confused/amused that we had gone to the bother, because there was plenty of open tables. We were seated next to the wall where about 100+ crosses of different shapes and colors were hanging. Quite an altar! Being somewhat rebellious by ordering neither tequila nor cerveza, we ordered $12 cucumber martinis (Hendrick's London Dry Gin, Cointreau and pulverized cucumber). The drink portion size was generous, though the cucumber flavor was a tad overwhelming. We liked that refills were offered in a very timely manner. Perhaps too timely, because this was a school night, and we really should have demurred on the extra rounds. :-) JP ordered ceviche ($8.95) for dinner, and I requested carne asada ($11.95). The shrimp-laden ceviche was delicious and I thought the carne asada was the best-seasoned carne asada I've ever had. Also, the Mexican rice that came with the asada was just right, not too salty. And the refried beans were exceptionally tasty, with a lighter more juicy texture than what is typical in Mexican restaurants. Other nice touches were the amuse bouche (mini tostada topped with refried beans, cabbage and queso fresco), heated tortilla chips and freshly made tortillas. Service was excellent and we look forward to returning.

This place is amazing! They are open late night for dinner and you can get the half price appetizers in the dining area. SCORE for 20 year olds like me! Boyfriend and I have been here twice now and have not left disappointed. It's definitely busier on the weekends, but overall it's still great service. You get a jog of water for the table so you don't need to wait for refills. There menu is well priced, especially for the quality of food. Everything is freshly prepared and you can taste the difference. This is no Azteca! Overall, order anything on the menu and you can't go wrong! $5 appetizers during happy hour are definitely something to take advantage of. I can't comment on drinks, but from what my boyfriend said, they are good as well. Fresh made food, moderately priced- what's not to love!!??

Best place to go have tacos, tequila, chips, beers, and a relaxing atmosphere. Can be a bit noisy at times, but the times I've been here it's always been in he front bar area, so that's expected. Good food, service can be a bit slow in the beginning, but as soon as your server gets to your table, then it's quick. Staff is friendly, and really easy on the eyes if you know what I mean lol.. This is the place I go on the hill if I want mexican

5 Stars for one of my favorite happy hours in Seattle. Absolutely LOVE the food and drinks here. The happy hour menu consists of a handful of drinks, wine and beer at reasonable prices, along with about 10 food items for $5 each. Their ceviche is THE BEST ever! It is shrimp, so not very traditional in the sense that normally ceviche uses white fish, but still, it is soooo very good... (mouth waters). I also like their chicken tacos and their tortilla soup. Happy hour even comes with unlimited chips and salsa, and a complimentary tostada. The servers are super nice and the atmosphere is chill. Highly recommended for happy hour on the hill.

One of the best Happy Hours in Capitol Hill. Food items are only $5 but don't be fooled by the price and think it's going to be a tiny appetizer! The servings are pretty decent and you can probably need to order just an item from the Happy Hour menu. Also, there's $2 Tecate beer on draft and amazing cocktail deals. I really love this place and the food is delicious; it's pretty authentic Mexican tasty food. The service is nice too. I highly recommend Fogon to anybody who loves good food!

Yum yum yum yummmmm. This place rocks. The location is great & interior is very cool. We sat in the bar & ordered "the bartender" (tequila, cranberry juice, OJ, deliciousness) beer & guacamole which was made to order & perfect. I had the Pork Sopitos which were to die for good! It was homemade & not too doughy. The beans & meat were cooked perfectly & full of authentic flavor. Even reheated as leftovers this was tasty. It will be hard for me to try something new since it was so good. My BF ordered Chicken Mole. It was also bomb diggity. This was juicy, the flavors were perfect & not too overwhelming. It is a pretty big portion too! Honestly, I have been trying to think of when I can get back here. Try this place! It's the best Mexican in the city I have tried.

Oh Fogon! My favorite mexican food in Seattle, I cannot speak more highly of it. The food is incredible, fresh, flavorful. I visit here at least twice a week and get the same thing; Ultimate Margarita, guacamole and fish tacos - YUM! The staff is so efficient and the place is well kept. The tortilla are made in house and you can watch the kind lady make them. Definitely check this place out if you're on the hill and need a killer Happy Hour.

Everything about this place is amazing. It's as authentic as it gets for Mexican in Seattle (no not deep fried chimichanga Mexican). Don't judge the place as unauthentic because the inside doesn't suck. Best food, best price, best experience, best place on the hill.

Great, cheap and plenty food. Good and spicy. Hum hum.. Happy hour prices are amazing. Stopped by to watch the game and had chips, ceviche and pint of beer for $9!! Sometimes the table service gets slow.

Hands down, THE BEST HAPPY HOUR in Seattle. A few dishes are only $5 during happy hour and their "half" order of nachos feeds two people easily (again, on their $5 happy hour menu). Even when it's not happy hour, however, the prices are very reasonable and the food is great. Delicious spicy salsa! The service is always friendly and efficient. My husband and I go almost once a week and we love it every time.

I was here on a tuesday night for a friend's 21st. We didn't have a reservation, and they said it would be a 30-40 minute wait for seating. We were seated in 15-20 minutes, and service for the rest of the evening was prompt and courteous. I got the ceviche happy hour special and 2 yummy beers (one for me, one for the birthday girl) for under $11! The ceviche had cucumbers in it, which I loved. My friends let me taste their tortilla soup and beef burrito--both tasty and well-seasoned. (I find that a lot of americanized Mexican food is overly salty.) My only gripe: we had a hard time hearing each other because it was surprisingly loud on a Tuesday night. Although now I know why it's such a popular restaurant--it deserves the hype.

I love eating here, I honestly go to happy hour at Fogon once a week. I am big fan of food at happy hours, not just drinks... and Fogon does just that! If you are looking for a casual place to have a great margarita and some fantastic food, look no further. Seriously, stop looking.

Had a great birthday dinner here! 1. Restaurant accommodated 12 people just fine, right by the open windows (we reserved in advance. Thank goodness we did, it was during PAX weekend!) 2. The server was awesome. He remembered who ordered what, with no mistakes or confusions, he offered to serve the entree I wanted to share with my boyfriend onto two plates without us asking. The checks came out split per person/couple. Super service!! 3. The food was good. Complimentary appetizer came out for everyone (big, round tortilla w/cheese, beans, cabbage). Nachos was nice--enough toppings to generously fill each chip. Carne Asada was tender and not fatty. 4. Drinks were not light! The cucumber mojito was refreshing. Mango Margarita was had the right amount of sweetness. P----- , this mezcal cocktail, was smoky and honestly too strong for me; I had to pass it to my man. All my friends were happy with their food (some had the chicken mole, don't know about the rest) and wanted to know "how I found this place!" Boyfriend and I will definitely return to try out their happy hour food.

Pretty well-priced delicious Mexican food. I wouldn't take someone I was trying to impress here-- but for a quick bite with some friends this place does the trick. The happy hour deals are pretty solid and I highly recommend the nachos.

Really, really good food. Some of the best Mexican food in Seattle, probably the best. The chile colorado was perfectly prepared and seasoned. I think the drinks are overpriced but delicious. I would order more if the price was more reasonable. Excellent staff.

Fogon Cocina was bustling with activity when me and my friend walked in for dinner on Tuesday. Logistically the place is on Pine in Cap Hill and as it goes with all places on Cap Hill parking is a pain. So my tip would the first open parking you find close by take it and then walk the rest of the way to get here. I had made a reservation and for weekdays I dont think reservations for parties of 3 to 4 is required. Weekend you might need one just to be on the safe side. For drinks we got the mojito and margarita. The mojito was a bit too sweet for my taste, and my friend seemed to enjoy her margarita on the rocks. For food we ordered the Tacos al Carbon, Fish Tacos as entrees and 3 salsa with chips. The food tasted great and the portions sizes were neither too overwhelming nor too little as to not fill you up. I thought the open hearth for warming your tortillas was really cool. Overall the ambiance was really casual and the place had a really lively vibe to it and I would go back for having a fun dinner with friends again for sure.

If you're like me and have heard that Seattle lacks good Mexican food, bring who ever says that here and prove them wrong. This is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle! Don't let the location and atmosphere fool you! The food is reasonably priced, fresh, and full of flavor. I recommend to all my friends!

Made a reservation for 8:00pm on Christmas Eve because it was close to the venue where we were seeing a show. We showed up early at 7:45 and were told they were closing at 8:00pm... yet we had a reservation at the same time. Regardless if they decided to close early, there was no apology and no attempt to make it up to us. They could have AT LEAST called. We were then without a place to eat on a night where very little was open. They obviously don't care about their customers, so we don't plan on ever returning.

I would give this 4.3 maybe even more of a 4 but that's only due to the fluctuating service. 95% of the time the servers are amazing, friendly and attentive and other days are just a miss but it's the industry. Overall the food here is outstanding and I fail to see where everyone is whining about the quality and price as the food is pretty killer compared to many other options on Capitol Hill. If you think this is tex-mex or Mexican American then you haven't had either of those and haven't had authentic Mexican food before because the food is great! Great drinks, great food and so so service which is the only point that keeps me from coming in as frequently as I once did.

4.2 Stars! I came with my friend for lunch today and will be back! Food: 4 Stars. Everything was very tasty and well presented! I ordered the scrambled version of huevos rancheros with avocado and it was great. The tostada appetizer was very good as well. I look forward to coming back and trying more items on the menu. Service: 4.5 Stars. Someone who may have been the manager came up to our table and gave us a complimentary appetizer! That was unexpected and awesome. Our server was very attentive. Timing: 5 stars. Our lunch was perfectly timed without being rushed. Even though we ordered the appetizer as an afterthought, it was delivered promptly before the main course. Price: 4 stars. The prices are very good. We had two meals and an appetizer (we ordered more the tostadas de tinga after tasting the free sample) and it came to about $27, which seemed to bit lower than average for this neighborhood. Atmosphere: 3.5 stars. Tastefully decorated and modern. A little bit nicer than what I might have expected. 21 Stars / 5 Categories = 4.2 Stars total average. I am a concierge at the Arctic Club and will keep this restaurant in mind to recommend to our guests who prefer Mexican food.

Horrible experience and I didn't even eat here. I called earlier this week to make a reservation for 8 people for a birthday dinner for my significant other. I called back today to confirm and up my reservation to 10 people. I was told they don't accept reservations past 8pm, even though I had made my reservations for 8:30pm. I was told that the woman on the phone earlier in the week must not have understood me, and according to the manager there was no way he could help me out by just a half an hour!!!!! Even though it was their mistake. Now I have a few hours to try and book a party of 10 for dinner. I will NEVER be going here.

This was a great find in Capitol Hill. Always hard to find good mexican food in the area and this place does well. I had the Chili Colorado and it had a great sauce. Everyone was very happy with the orders and the service was very good. I want to give the happy hour a shot next.

No need to go out of your way to make it here for Happy Hour - their "specials" are ...well, there's a reason I put that in quotation marks! Ultimate margarita and bartender's margarita - both very good (though the ultimate margarita may not appeal to the men, it arrives in a very dainty margarita glass. a mini-margarita glass, if you will. With the shaker on the side). Free chips and salsa though - and they were top notch! As for the meal - I had the enchiladas, which really lacked cheese. But the carne asada that the enchiladas are paired with was so flavorful that it just made the whole meal 10x better. Slight crisp. Enough to share with the table, but you might not want to!

  • Kelly M.

The food here was ok but nothing special, the rice and beans were both pretty bland as were the veggie tacos I had. My husband ordered the fish tacos which were ok but the fish was in serious need of some flavoring, on the plus side the fish wasn't breaded which we prefer. Our waiter was very nice but at the end seemed to be rushing us out. I had the sangria and it was not what I was expecting, it says that it is house made which is great but it was very sweet for my tastes. I probably wouldn't order it again. We also ordered the chips and salsa which was pretty good as well, it comes with three kinds of salsa. All in all it was a decent experience.

It has become my favorite Mexican restaurant on Capitol Hill. I love that they put so much effort into even the chips and salsa--they bring you three different salsas on a little rack (and they're large--not those annoying little tiny ramekins that are too small to dip a chip into). Plus, this place is a great value, with great service. Keep it up.

Vegetarians, beware. (Vegans, run for the hills!) This is one of those places that only offers MAYBE three or four options for us, none of them particularly revolutionary. (This is what I have come to expect from most Mexican restaurants, so I wasn't surprised. But I can still be disappointed.) My partner and I visited last night, because we were hungry and in the midst of a project, and Fogon offers free wifi (it's pretty fast, too). We were seated quickly and given a little amuse-bouche: a flat, hard corn tortilla with a mildly spicy little salad on top, with refried beans, crema, and queso blanco. Unexpected, yummy and crunchy. Margaritas are $2 off on Mondays, so I ordered the Ultimate, which is made from scratch. It comes in a teeny little glass, but it also comes with about two refills for that glass. Worth $8? Maybe. It was pretty tasty and very well-balanced. Having to refill it every ten minutes was irksome, but perhaps it kept me from downing it too quickly, and thus I was able to appreciate it better. My partner ordered some other drink (I wasn't paying attention) and the Enchiladas Rojas. I ordered the vegetarian fajitas (about $14). They come with about four corn tortillas and tons of deliciously seasoned veggies, plus refried beans and Spanish rice. The beans are sprinkled liberally with queso blanco. I LOVE queso blanco. I might have given Fogon four stars, except that the music was awful and didn't make sense for the space. They were pumping horrible dance music through the restaurant. It's not a club, there's nowhere to dance. It was distracting, and it made the atmosphere feel frantic, rather than relaxing and classy. Fogon's interior is pretty and feels thoughtful; the music didn't complement it in the slightest. The service was good and my partner and I both enjoyed our meals, but I can't think of anything that would desperately compel me to return.

My mission to find delicious Mexican food in Seattle has ended! Coming from Texas, the standard for good Mexican or TexMex is set pretty high. I have to say, Fogon is deeelicious! The complimentary torta was a nice touch, I found it to be a little bland. Started off with ceviche. It was sooo fresh and flavorful. For $5 on happy hour, it was well worth the price and size. Free chips and salsa, people. The salsa is just as fresh with a nice kick. I ordered the Carne Rancherita. Foodiecall and I ordered the same dish. He had steak and I had (white meat) chicken. Next time I'm ordering the steak. It was so tender and juicy. You can't go wrong. Instead of rice and refried beans, I ordered a salad and black beans. So yum and no fuss for the subsitutions. Each salsa our waiter brought us was spicier than the next. I was very pleased at the heat factor and enjoyed mixing it up on my platillo fuerte. All the yums here have me thinking about my next visit already. This place JUST may be an instant favorite! I could barely finish all my food. Yes, I had a snack a couple hours before, but the portions were a good size. Since Molly Moons so close by, we walked there and filled up the dessert compartment of my stomach.

For happy hour or reverse happy hour these might be the best dishes in town you can get for $5. The shrimp ceviche, tostadas and tortilla soup are as generous in portion as they are in flavor. Drinks here are top shelf too with a very inviting back bar.

Very good mexican food. The price is really good for the nice atmosphere and good drinks. The happy hour is great, I went twice in one day! (the late night happy hour is better) I have had the tamales, nachos, and flautas, all were really good. The nachos did have a little too much meat on them (I know, not a complaint you hear often) the chips were so good however that I wish I had enough chips for all the meat. Definitely a good stop if you are on the hill and looking for nice late night eats! Added bonus: on hot evenings the walls open up to the street so it's like eating outdoors. :)

Finally, a place with some staying power on Pine and Belmont! I've lived in the neighborhood for several years, and seen a few places come and go. When Fogon opened, I didn't know what to expect. However, I've been pleasantly surprised. I stopped in for happy hour a few days ago and had the ceviche and a Negra Modelo on tap. The ceviche was huge and delicious! It was basically a great meal for one person. The service was fantastic too. They're very attentive, and definitely made me feel at home. At the end, my bill came to less than $10 for me to get full and a bit tipsy. Not too shabby! I'll definitely be back.

We must have come on an off night. We were there at 5 for happy hour. I ordered the shrimp ceviche. The shrimp was tough and tasted more like a shrimp substitute. The ceviche arrive pretty quick, once it arrived, my friend ordered the happy hour tacos and some salsa to go with the chips that came with my ceviche. His order never came and we got tired of waiting for it. We got our check and left. The 3 of us made it out of there with only $15 in damages.

I was visiting out of town and this happened to be one of my favorite restaurants to eat in the area! The staff and service are so welcoming and helpful, I would come back again here in a heart beat! The food is absolutely amazing!

Food was good, but nothing special. Certainly not great. There were only three vegetarian options on the menu. I got the veggie fajita and it tasted like fish sauce. The portions were on the small side and prices were high. I won't be back. However, the corn tortillas were really good.

Complimentary bean tostadas on our arrival, yes please! My enchiladas mariscos were very tasty. Our waiter was exceptional, very attentive and great with helping with meal options. I will definitely be coming back!

I have been here three times since it opened and I have had outstanding service every time!!! AND the food is even better!! Ceviche is amazing, great chicken tacos and steak sopitos! The workers are nice and genuine. We always get greeted by multiple employees and taken care of as though it was our first time there! Great atmosphere to add to the hill!!

Thoroughly enjoyed the tacos and guacamole here. I hope the curse of this corner doesn't carry over as this is the best restaurant to have set up shop here.

Pretty good drinks. Slightly on the expensive side but with pretty reasonable portions. Good margaritas and the food was great. I had the carne asada and it blew me away. Great guacamole too and the service was great. I'd overall recomend this place to anyone.

A 2 star rating is defined as "Meh, I've experienced better". I think this describes this place perfectly. The food wasn't bad by any means, but definitely wasn't good enough to get me to return.

Atmosphere is over too gay. Food is so salty and overpriced, and this is not authentic Mexican food. drinks are bad. Customer service is good.

This place was great for a large group of people. Plus our waiter was very kind and willing to separate the orders onto separate bills. The food was delicious and the overall environment was great! Will definitely come back.

I've been here for regular dinner and happy hour - both times the food was fantastic, tasted very authentic (especially for Seattle mexican food) and service was beyond excellent. The margaritas taste good but puzzle me somewhat - you're given a very small champagne style glass and then refill your margarita yourself with the tin full they leave with the glass. Tasty but not what I was expecting... Pricing is a bit high and I dislike paying for chips and salsa during normal hours, but happy hour pricing is much better and the chips and salsa are free! Also they have a late happy hour which is a bonus. The free toastada at the start of any meal is a fantastic treat too! I'd be open to them having a $5 margarita of lower quality during happy hour tho, just in case anyone from Fogon reads these...

The food at this place was tasty, and the staff are friendly. It's just as good as El Farol's place. I think I like El Farol just a bit more because they give you complimentary chips & salsa. El Farol feels a bit more homey, while Fogón is trying to be a bit more stylish. These restaurants are both good places to eat.

We just discovered this place and are very pleased to have found an authentic Mexican restaurant in Seattle. First of all the staff was exceptional Victor made us feel right at home and his recommendations were spot on. I had the Enchilada de Mariscos and my wife had Chilaquilles both were exceptional. They make everything on site even fresh tortillas right by the entrance. The Salsa verde, pics de gallo and roasted pepper salsas were delicious. Also agua de Hamaica and aqua de Tamarindo were very tasty as well. Expect that this will be our go to place going forward for the real deal Mexican cuisine.

Just came to Fogon for happy hour and the margaritas are legit! I don't normally order margaritas because they're usually made with the mix. They are homemade here with fresh lime juice and they are delicious! Service is great, overall great experience!

  • Carly R.

I love this place. Their Ultimate Margarita is the best thing, especially after a hard day at work. Not only to you get a free tostada, but if it's happy hour you get free chips and salsa too. Perfect portions leave you full and spot on with price. I love this place so much that I decided to sign up with Yelp just so I could support Fogon. I hope it sticks around.

Great Mexican food on Cap Hill in a trendy setting. Love the Al Pastor tacos. Reminds me of the delicious ones you can get at stands in Puerta Vallarta. Prices are reasonable considering the quality, service, and location.

Not the best mexican food... maybe because i'm biased? I've had texmex / mexican food in houston all my life, but for a place like this was pretty decent. Loved how they gave each person a toastada on the house! Although it was a Tuesday night, it was Thirsty Tuesdays with the coworkers. The spiked horchata was yummy... horchata + vanilla vodka and khalua? How can you go wrong with that? Got to try to carne asada burrito and pastor torta... burrito 8/10, torta 6/10. Something was lacking.... perhaps hot sauce? I asked the waiter for some hot sauce and he came out with 6 different bottles right away... talk about hot service! We had a late dinner so we got to make it to happy hour... um... one of the best happy hours i've seen. Ceviche was fresh... their margarita... for 8 bucks filled up those martini glasses 4-5 times. talk about a good night! After eating here with my coworkers I've been dubbed the foodie of the group and became responsible for planning every dinner.

Had two excellent meals here, once with gf, once with gf + mom. Atmosphere was very relaxed, food was great (tortillas made in-house), and the margaritas were fantastic.

In the interest of full disclosure, I should say that I don't drink. Thus, my commentary on this lively little place is not diluted by rum. I first went to Fogon, not sure of the pronunciation, with colleagues. The server brought everyone a little appetizer:beans, cheese and lettuce on a crispy tortilla. These are standard whether you order food or not. Still, we stayed so long chatting and sipping, that I got hungry and looked for what they had on their menu that wouldn't throw me completely off my food plan. Voila, among the salads I found Caesar con Camaron for less than $9. I ordered it and found, when it arrivedm that the dish was a tasty blend of romaine lettuce tossed with charbroiled prawns, black beans, queso ranchero, avocado, tomato and Caesar dressing. It was delicious and I tucked the place into the back of my mind for days when I didn't want to cook or spend a lot. I have been back several times since and have not been disappointed. Not only is the meal well prepared and presented, but the wait staff are helpful, patient, and timely.

I went here for an early dinner with my husband on a weekend. We loved the food. It has a slightly different menu than any other typical Mexican restaurant. We will definitely come back with our friends since this restaurant has a good ambiance suitable even for a larger group of people. There were quite a few veggie options on the menu as well. I ordered some mango nonalcoholic drink which was pretty interesting. The only problem is finding parking nearby and we had to walk a bit.

Best Mexican food on the hill or in Seattle! My boyfriend and I used to go there three times a week on average! Absolutely loved the food and the staff! We miss Seattle more because of Fogon!

I had enchiladas verdes and was very satisfied (great beans, tender chicken, good verde sauce). The fresh corn tortillas made by the ladies next to the front door are really good. The true draw for Drunkitol Hill is the tequila-based cocktail list. Amazing. I was also told that they are going to have late night hours, which means I'll be back pre/post RPlace, Baltic Room.

I came here for dinner with a friend and we both got complimentary fresh hand-made tacos. It was delicious! For the appetizers we had Trio of Salsas and Totopos. All three salsas were good. For the main course I had the Enchiladas Rojas. I liked how the potatoes had spices on it to give it flavor, the carne asada was also flavorful but thin and a little tough. But the enchiladas were delicious. it was a good fulfilling meal. Our waiter was very nice and helpful; great service. I would love to return and try their happy hour specials!

  • Marisa D.

Loved it! Complimentary appetizers, delicious food, very reasonable prices, and great service! We asked for to-go boxes and the waiter boxed it up for us and gave us an extra bag of chips to take home with it. Can't wait to go back and try their margaritas!

margarita. chips. shrimp ceviche with avocado slices. good portion. ok flavors. wasn't wowed. chicken leg mole with refried beans and rice. good flavors on the meat part. meh for the rest of the dish. a bit noisy. certainly not a place to expect a very attentive server. future visits, maybe, if there are no other passable mexican places around seattle.

I am still a fan of Fogon but have to say I was really disappointed with their grand opening on September 20th. On our first visit the waiter told us that on the grand opening they were having happy hour all day and we should come back. That sounded awesome so I put it in my calender and we went back on the grand opening and they said happy hour was only 3-6. I told them we were told by their waitstaff that it was all day but they didn't seem to care and said other people had said the same thing. So obviously someone there gave out wrong information. NOT COOL FOGON! I think you should have offered the happy hour prices to the people who were told happy hour was all day. That is just not right. It was really disappointing. And the Marachi band was way too loud for that small space. We could not talk to each other and could not hear the waiter and I guess he could not hear us either as one of our entrees was wrong. Service not as good either. Does everything go downhill in Seattle?

Been here three times already. Great inexpensive Happy Hour menu, couple of cute waiters. Ceviche was very good and fresh, had the seafood enchilada which was also very good. Great prefunk place. Highly recommend.

Definitely Mexican food for super-timid Gringos: good tortillas, but the dishes were bland and under-seasoned. Don't imagine you'll have anything like you had on your last trip to Mexico or the Southwest. We had the lengua (tomatillo sauce had NO chile or garlic in it), the cheese-stuffed poblanos (big hunks of unmelted queso fresco) and the flautas (stuffed with lots of beans and pork or chicken fat and almost no chorizo). We had to ask for some hot sauce to try to get a little chile flavor in anything. If you know anything about real Mexican food, don't go.

This restaurant scored because it was in walking distance from our place and the food was great! They brought a complimentary tostada to the table :-) .We shared the shrimp ceviche...so delish! And then dinner came. My bf had the whole tilapia. Not typically his style but he said it was very tasty. I had chicken rancherita. Very flavorful too. No room for desserts this time. Definitely a restaurant to enjoy again.

This place is amazing and it's great to see them be successful in this location which was previously cursed with a slough of failed restaurants for at least a decade. Reasons to love Fogon: Free tostada appetizers. so good I have ordered extras! Amazing margaritas served in shakers. I love the spicy one. Not too sweet, not too sour, very drinkable and generous portions for the price All of the food is spectacular. My favorites are the tacos pescados, caesar salad with shrimp, ceviche (the best I've ever had) and camarones del diablo. BOMB happy hour. I never make it to the earlier one but the late night is where it's at. You never have to wait long for a table It's great for parties and groups. I've hosted a bachelorette party dinner here as well as a work party. They are very helpful and accommodating if you call ahead. Very friendly service and the servers are all there long term. It's nice to see friendly faces. JUST GO HERE ALREADY. By far the best Mexican food on the hill and arguably in Seattle.

It started off right: we had a party of four, and although the restaurant was very busy, they did everything possible to accommodate our party immediately. They set up tables for us, and told us if we weren't happy then they would gladly move us as soon as anything else became available. We were immediately served tostada beans, which was great. We only had appetizers (nachos, ceviche) but they were delicious, especially the ceviche. We also had margaritas, which were strong and tasty. I would definitely recommend this place!

Margaritas are tasty and plentiful -- think tumbler-glass size. I tried the Skinny Margarita courtesy of our server's recommendation and must admit, the man was spot on -- it was tangy without being sickeningly sweet or overwhelming. First time a server has ever asked which flavor profile I prefer in my margs: sweet, sour or tangy. Note to self: Remember than one for all future marg adventures to come. Food came in a reasonable fashion. Fish tacos were overwhelmingly large. I was hoping for street-style, but instead received large, flour monstrosities. Fish was okay -- didn't leave much of an impression. Wouldn't order them again. Pork tamale was tasty and served authentically still within the husk. Made me miss California with all of their warm tamale glory. Overall, I'd say this place is hit or miss. Your taco craving would be better quenched elsewhere.

Atmosphere, great! Service, great! Ultimate Margarita, great! Carne Asada Street Tacos, great! So glad we went here instead of the Cheesecake Factory! I highly recommend this instead of an over crowded busy establishment! Next time you are in Seattle check it out!

When we walked in from the pouring rain, they said it would only take a few minutes to clear out table. 30 minutes later we finally sat down. The waiter asked how many chips and salsa, we ordered 2 servings before realizing they were $5 a piece! The food was fast, but mediocre. Wish they had communicated with us more, the service was pretty poor.

This is always our #1 choice when we're on Capitol Hill. The food & drinks are always awesome!! It's a very laid back, but hip place with all the cool decor. You can't beat their Happy Hour menu. A good selection, good prices & the serving portions are amazing. You'll guarantee to leave their satisfied!! My faves on their regular menu are the Carne asada & Queso fundido!! Def a must when you're there! I'm in absolute in love with their ultimate margaritas. They come in a cute shaker. Most of all the main reason we keep going back is the ambiance and service. They are always superb with a family type of vibe!! We have never had a bad experience there and the staff is always helpful and friendly. We always enjoy having Omar O. serving us. He's always super nice and gives incredible customer service!! When in the Seattle area... This place is a must if you love awesome Mexican food!!

I eat here. a lot. The torta is amazing. The burritos are above par. But the chips and guac! that's where the real blessing is. Order chips and guac to go and you will receive a substantial tub of guacamole with a stuffed bag of chips. You really can't find a better deal than that.

THIS IS MY SH!T. My co-workers and I frequent this place often for HH after work. After a long day, munching on some shrimp ceviche and washing it down with a Bartender's Margarita.. there's nothing better. The drinks are spot on and so is the food. I have a soft spot for tamarind margaritas and they are delish at this establishment. Carne Asada and the Lengua... NOM NOM NOM. This place is ALWAYS crackin'. It's so loud every time we eat here... so you're kinda yellin' at the person next to you. It's not for everyone, but hey it's lively. I'll continue to frequent this place often until I find another one better.. but I have a feeling it'll be a long time before that happens. Thumbs up Fogon.

I am a very picky mexican food eater .. I mean VERYY picky .. only b/c I've had such great and cheap street tacos being from So Cal SO when I moved up here .. I was so sad/disppointed/sad/upset that there was NO WHERE that had some good carne asada tacos with corn tortilla .. I've gone to Issaquah to try a highly reviewed place, food trucks out in W seattle etc but nothing was very delicious until I found Fogon .. and luckily it's down the street from my new place :D Their tortillas are made FRESH :D yayyy! & their asada meat is so yum .. not the cheap asada meat some other places use .. the prices are more expensive than the usual place .. but that's okay b/c the meat is well worth it. Their happy hour is a great value .. $5/item .. a variety of items .. flautas, ceviche, chicken tostada, chicken tacos, etc. $3 pacifico/corona. AND the only reason why it's not a five star review is b/c we had to wait over 15-20 minutes until we had to wave someone down for a glass of water! Their service wasn't bad, it was just in the beginning .. but their food makes up for it :)

Food is excellent, loved the hand made tortillas. But if there's something about this restaurant is the music. I really appreciate they don't have "Banda" music which here in Seattle seems to be default in any Mexican restaurant

Two words: GO HERE Stunning food quality, excellent service, well-trained and responsive staff, and alarmingly well-priced. My wife and I wandered in here on a whim after a Friday afternoon traffic report told us our trek home was going to take 2+ hours. From the opening round of traditional tostadas to the hand-made margaritas, this place unmistakably knows what it's doing. We ordered the flautas as an appetizer, and seafood enchiladas and carne asada as entrees, and we were in no way disappointed - the enchiladas were bursting with crab and scallops, and the carne asada was cooked to a perfect medium rare. Excellent flavors, not over-seasoned at all. The house-made corn tortillas (they don't serve flour tortillas, thank goodness) are superb. Colorful interior decor. Attentive and helpful staff. Large bar selection. Very competitively priced. We absolutely will be going back... might even make it a habit to stop in every Friday at 5:30!

Taking my energy and time to spread the word of this restaurant. By far the worse food we have ever ordered in Seattle. We had a take out order of two mexican Carne Asada sandwhiches that comes with a salad. We live one block from here and so the timing from the establishment to our home would not have caused such gooshy salad and bread. The meat was severely scarce, the bread was overly dried out on top and the bottom half was very soggy. We just spent $27 bucks only to throw this horrible food with no flavor away, and head up to a more familiar restaurant we trust. I dont know if it is because it was a take out order (nobody was getting tipped) or the cook is new, but I would absolutely not waste your time here. We have never ordered from here in the past and decided to be open minded and try it, do to the saturated, positive yelp reviews. We can not stress to you how horrible the food is here. Dont bother.

Great cocktails, delicious food, better service. Never left disappointed and I'm there pretty often. Ohh btw they make their tortillas on the spot at your request in plain view that is pretty cool.

The Mexican food wasn't authentic but it wasn't Tex-Mex either - I would rate this place fairly well for the food and service. Had the carnitas tacos - they were fine but nothing to go home raving about. We also had the flan but it was a let down compared to what we've eaten elsewhere. Overall, this place serves reasonable Mexican food at a reasonable price!

Great food - especially the seafood dishes. Happy hour specials daily are great and the $5 food specials are tremendous value. Order a few sharable style plates with a friend and you won't need dinner. Good set-up for a bar crawl night. Not a very social place, but a good spot to kick off an afternoon / night on Capitol Hill.

I love that the huge windows facing the street open to outside seating! Lovely on a hot summer day or evening. Ordered pork tamales, yummy, very tender pork inside. I liked their selection of hot sauces, not your regular tapatio or cholula. Bf ordered chicken tacos on happy hr, i think they were $5. Pretty tasty, I would say 3.78/5 stars. He also orderd the tortilla soup which we both laaaved. Super tender chicken. I think it was also on the happy hr menu for $5. The kiddo had cheese quesadilla (anyone who loves cheese would love it). Super cheesy & crispy.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
