Another great neighborhood pizza joint! I've heard plenty of positive things about this place so I was really excited when my family asked for my advice on a place to go to for a quick bite out one night during the busy holiday season. We ended up at the Maple Leaf location, cute and quaint. 6 o'clock you may have to wait a little for a table, but it is definitely worth it. for the 6 of us two pizzas was plenty, there was even left overs and some of us started with side salads (Caesar wasn't anything special;-/ but was edible) We picked The Sofia, which was my favorite : Salumi coppa, artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, mushrooms, Mozz & sauce, along with The Charles : Pepperoni, pork sausage, mushrooms, black olives, Mozz & Sauce - both at 21$ a pie. Not too bad! There is also some cool local art work hung on the walls to look at - i like it. I will be back!

They have this seasonal pizza called the "Figure 8" which I found phenomenal. Figs, proscuitto, mozzarella, and goat cheese! I'm extremely partial to figs. Wait can be long on weekends but you can always get pizzas to go.

Great pizza, beer selection and amazing neighborhood feel. We go every Friday night with our kids (along with the rest of the toddler toting Maple Leaf crew.) It is casual enough that my 1 and 3 year olds aren't an issue but it is never an issue of too many kids or anyone being out of control. They are always friendly and responsive to our needs. Only problem is now my 3 year old only wants to go to the "squirrel" restaurant every week. There are worse places to be a regular at.

This is my third visit to Flying Squirrel Pizza in Maple Leaf. Consistent friendly neighborhood pizza joint, great selection of food items and don't forget to check for the daily specials, and of course, the delicious pizza. Good timing pace with the starters and pizzas - pizza was perfect from the oven! Starters: Spinach Salad had a nice balance with vinaigrette, red onion, bacon, candied pecans, and bleu cheese crumbles. The small one is ample to share between two people. Dungeness crab dip - served bubbling hot, creamy, delicious goodness with breadsticks. Outstanding! Pizza: Ordered the #1 Cheese - nearly got demolished by the ten year old with the orange soda. Ordered The Charles - pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, olives, cheese, tasty sauce and amazing crust. Flavorful and a bit of a crunch. Holds up well with this specialty pizza. No room for dessert - but there are several selections, including local Full Tilt ice cream varieties! Noticed the other tables: three other families, one couple, some takeout, and lots of delivery. Love the vinyl art, collection of mix tapes, and lantern lamps - added to the interior décor. The Maple Leaf is lucky to have such a consistent neighborhood pizza establishment!

They've turned into our go-to pizza place, especially now that they deliver (to a fairly limited neighborhood, but nevertheless). When the Boston Spaceships comes around, get it. It's probably the best pizza they have, but it's only once a year or so that it appears on the menu. Otherwise, we have our love for the #3 and the #6. But the rosemary bean dip is the thing we always get. One caveat: There's only one size of pizza.

Quite possibly the BEST pizza in Seattle. Personally I would prefer a better atmosphere for adult eating - which is why I give it only 4 not 5 stars. If you want to get away from the kids - this is NOT the pizza place for you.

  • Adam Z.

So glad they opened this newer location closer to my pad. They even deliver, awesome. But if you prefer to go and eat there the place is really cool inside and has great beer on tap. FYI they'll fill your growlers for you there too. Now, on to the best part, the pizza! We had a half #7 half Sophia and it was rockin. The crust is perfectly crisp and chewy and the toppings are top notch. I will definitely be back asap.

I am giving a harsh review now in hopes that the owners will respond and improve! Will change the review if the do improve. And it's all about the food here. *I've posted photos of the same order from Visit #1 versus Visit #2; both the Mo Le Tengo pizzas. (CHECK OUT PHOTOS #19-21 FOR THESE VISITS.) THE FOOD: Visit #1: Amazing, the most crispy crust with insanely fresh ingredients. For me, the pizza is all about the dough. Haven't had such a perfectly crispy but perfectly cooked pizza crust since I've been in Italy. And the dough was full of flavor itself. Also, their local ingredients just sang so beautifully; you can actually taste each ingredient! The tomatoes alone were so delicious: roasted with fresh garlic, so juicy and full of flavor that I would've given a 5 review alone for that. Ordered the Specials: a) Roasted duck with hoisin sauce and green onions on their flatbread. Amazing for a fusion dish...and I'm Chinese and hate fusion dishes normally. b) Mo Le Tengo with Salumi salami: Crispy but not burnt crust, delicious cheesy cheese, incredible. Well worth the $21 for a large pizza. It was just the two of us, so was thrilled to have leftovers. Visit #2: Ordered the Sofia and the Mo Le Tengo again. The Sofia had artichokes and mushrooms; fresh ingredients, but honestly it was bland. Not much taste actually. However, it was the Mo Le Tengo that was the problem: so burnt on the edges that I left about half the slices on my plate. I posted photos of the first visit versus the second visit, and you'll see the difference. Although there were three of us, we had lots of leftovers, and the pieces we took home were just inedible. =( *Was sorely disappointed since the first trip was so amazing. I hope it was a fluke; the crust on the first pizza was just so memorable. PLEASE improve so I can increase the rating.* THE DECOR, THE SERVICE, ETC.: All fine, I enjoy the paintings of squirrels and cats all through the restaurant. And if you sit at the bar, you can see all the cassette tapes and the tape deck. Very cool. Friendly staff, especially at the bar. Clean, casual and cozy. No complaints.

Love this place. The pizza is delicious: thin crust, fresh ingredients, and not too heavy on the toppings. For the non-pizza eaters among you, the salads are good ( I dig the arugula) as are the meatballs. Small but good selection of beers. Kid friendly, although not the cheapest pizza around. Cozy dining room. Get there before six on a Friday or Saturday to avoid a wait. They also have takeout.

  • Cory S.

If you don't love the pizza here, there is definitely something wrong with you. It is so freaking good. My favorite is the one with bacon, arugula and tomatoes. It is a giant pizza for $20. You should get that. The place is super child friendly (not really my thing, especially while eating out) so I find I enjoy it a bit more "to-go"

  • Cheryl F.

I'd give it two stars for the quality of the pizza but the family/neighborhood ambiance and service are really nice so I gave it three. I'm sort of insane about pizza and my own pizza is really very good, so my standards are high. But hanging out here by the window with a beer and a pizza is a really nice experience. And it's in my hood. I hope they stay in business! :D

Perfect Crust both times. Flew in from Dallas and found this place via YELP. It was so good we had to come back the second night in a row. The Pork/Cuban pizza rocks as does the Spinach salad with Maytag Blue Cheese. It's worth flying back into town for! UPDATE: My wife and I still talk about this place as if its a "standard."

Yum! Love all their pizzas. Great beer. Good service. Convenient location. Easy parking. Top 10 pizza on my list. The seating outside is great in the summer!

The pizza crust here is amazing, thin and crispy. I had the usual pizza with sausage, cheese and pepperoni/halfed with pineapple and Canadian bacon. But I tried my friend's No.10 which has bacon and it was out of this world...highly recommend. The only thing that was weird, or notable I guess is that we were the only table, of 4...without kids there. The place was FULL of kids. And that's cool, we weren't inappaopriate or anything, we just felt a little out of place. And it was a Friday night. LOL This place is definately worth checking out...cool decor, yummy pizza and for sure kid friendly.

Heard about them but never tried their pizza. This is their newest location among the three just opened 4 days ago. I ordered a take out since they were full in the dinning room pretty much on this holiday Monday. Only had to wait for 15 minutes as promised. There is only one size of their thin crust about 16" for about $20. The morcellera cheese was good so were the meats. Worth to try it! Noted that they carry Molly Moon's ice-cream at $6.00 a pint. In fact, I missed the original A New York Pizza at the same location that made the best pizza! Wonder where is he relocated?

Thanks to my sister an her fiancé I was introduced to this delicious pizza house. We had a large party of about 20 or so and came in on Sunday evening at 6:30 PM and although the restuarant was full and there was only one waitress she was very attentive and our food was quickly served. Now we order 4-5 different pizzas and a couple different appetizers and I will have I say my favorite appetizer was the meatballs!! Talk about chalk full of flavor!! Their cheese pizza is delicious as was their vegetarian. Great atmosphere and super family friendly. Will definatley be back!

Favorite pizza place! Perfect crust and tasty toppings. Salads are amazing too. I love making my own creation with fresh spinach, caramelized onions, goat cheese, artichoke hearts and Mama Lil's Peppers. The Seward Park location is just as good. Yum!

The Figure 8 -- Our most beloved seasonal special. Olive oil base, a layer of thinly sliced ripened figs, a bit of sweet balsamic reduction, mozzarella, Laura Chenel goat cheese, Zoe's prosciutto and fresh arugula. $21 allowed substitution of field roast sausage for the prosciutto. It was excellent. Loved the mixed tape too ~ nice touch of oldies.

Love this new awesome place! Well new to us! We got this fancy coupon in the mail since we live in the area and decided to not let this opportunity pass us by! THEY'RE PIZZA IS AWESOME! I could end it there but a little explanation; we've been there 2x. Service the first time exceptional, she even told the cook how amazing he was doing- I love the team work and comradery. Second time it was good too. We always have the hardest time figuring out what kind of pizza to get! The ones we've had have been so amazing and delicious. The chicken one is our favorite so far still, but we have a long way to go to try all of them. Price is great especially since most ingredients are homemade and very fresh. My only wish.... thick crust. I'm a thick crust kind of girl. there's a little too overdone for me to truly enjoy it.

Super yummy pizza; this place does it right! I like this Flying Squirrel Pizza; there are lots of family, but its more conducive to dinner dining. We tried the pepperoni (#2) and chicken sausage (#9) pizzas which both had great fresh ingredients, well crafted dough, and the right balance of cheese - and tasted great the next day as leftovers. Can I make one small complaint? We ordered their cheesecake for dessert (not too bad) and the cookies and ice cream. The salted caramel ice cream from Tilt was a great recommendation of our waitress. And the cookies? Two tiny sad little cookies slightly resembling Famous Amos cookies, barely noticeable on the side plate they were served on. They were tiny, super hard, and just tasted bad. Were these the kiddie cookies? I was so confused as there was so much ice cream and these tiny cookies that were seriously not more than 2 inches in diameter. I feel people aren't going to have huge expectations with cookies here; heck, get a log of cookie dough and toss them in the oven; but it was a sad disgrace to the world of cookies that they were advertised as a main component of dessert, and instead were a disappointing garnish (adorable menus, by the way). Enough of the cookie rant - the pizza was awesome and the beer ice cold (Fremont Brewery Summer Ale) and delicious, the cheese bread wasn't too bad, and our service was great - I will be back for these!

Admittedly, I generally try to find faults with restaurants I dine at, but as I think about this one I dined at recently, I can't. The atmosphere is very laid back and has a Northwest feel. It's a place that isn't too busy where you can sit back and have a couple of beers with friends. The owners here were also really friendly. The pizza is very unique. What sticks out in my mind is the crunchiness of the very bottom of the crust, yet the dough in the middle has a nice doughiness to it. The closest comparison of the pizza here is to another in Seattle is Zeeks, although I enjoyed the pizza here better. The proscuitto on our pizza was a generous portion. We also tried the marinated olives, which were enjoyable.

YUM!!! I can't speak for the waitstaff, location or service as I was simply the recipient of acquired takeout - this review will be about one thing alone: the pizza. It's tough to find good pizza in the Northgate area. Only a few generic/unappetizing places deliver, and driving down to Tutta Bella is a chore. Well fret no more, because Flying Squirrel (located near the Chevron on 5th St) is super tasty and super worth it. Reasons why: 1. Chewy yet crispy crust 2. Delicious sauce (others have mentioned it's sweeter than usual - I agree, but it works) 3. TONS of toppings to choose from, including vegan field roast sausage! (great for the husband, who can never find vegan protein toppings) 4. Affordable. Now, hear me out on this. It's around $20 for a pizza, but unlike Tutta Bella or even Via, the pizzas are WAY larger. You can easily split one pizza between two people, so cost-wise it works out to less than getting 2 smaller pizzas somewhere like Tutta. 5. They let you do half and half! This to me seals the deal - we were able to get half vegan (no cheese, field roast, veggies) and half non vegan (fresh mozz, ham, veggies) and we didn't have to buy 2 pizzas. 6. They let you order online (including complicated half/half orders) 7. High quality meat - the 'ham' was small cubes of smoked ham, clearly not just bulk-purchased canadian bacon I'd give an extra star if they delivered. Overall the best possible choice for pizza in the area.

My husband and I had spent the entire day schmoozing at business events and were exhausted and on the hunt for some scrumptious pizza. We were near Greenlake and it was an easy zip to Maple Leaf! We ordered a Count Basil and were pleased with the accommodating and lovely server, the light and fresh pesto, and the quiet atmosphere (we wre there on a Thursday night). There are a lot of inventive pies on the menu and I'm look ing forward to returning! Oh, and of course, the beer menu is all local and craft and the wine list is superb.

With 11 reviews and a five-star rating I should've known better. I should've known that it's too small of a sample size to gauge the quality that is Flying Squirrel Pizza. I was expecting an amazing pizza, but I was quite disappointed. Then again this is Seattle, where the best pizza place isn't a traditional pizza. We started out with the praised seasonal antipasto which was composed of smoked salmon, buffalo mozzarella, marinated olives, figs with balsamic, and cured meats with garlic. The flavors were okay, but the figs were good. My main complaint is the portion. It was $15 and it wasn't a lot. The plate's portion was more of around $11 to $12 dollars. The smoked salmon was very underwhelming. It was very dry and not seasoned enough. We also ordered the Spinach Salad that was good, but again the portion was not. The ratio of the spinach to the other ingredients was disappointing. There was scarcity in the bacon and bleu cheese department. I don't think this dish is $10, it's more like $8. Finally, the pizza. We ordered "The Charles". The crust was good. It had that crispy and that chew that I look for in a pizza. My main complaint is that there was not enough tomato sauce to provide that zing to cut the fatty taste from the toppings. They also burnt our first pizza, so we had to wait an extra eight to ten minutes for it. The service at Flying Squirrel was great. Our server was quite attentive. It was the only highlight of the evening. Would I go back to Flying Squirrel Pizza Co.? Probably not at this location, but the one at Seward Park and I would probably just order a pizza only

Pizza is pizza is pizza. But, when a great pizza comes along, it really is wonderful. I am not afraid to admit that I eat pizza way too much. On Lazy Sunday nights while watching sports or a movie, my boyfriend and I are known to order pizza from the Costco that is 5 minutes from his apt. It's good, it gets the job done, and is cheaper and better than most of the delivery places near by. But, when I go out for pizza, it's a completely different experience, one that I really look forward to. Don't get me wrong, I am fine with a greasy, cheesy, pepperoni pizza sometimes, but the offerings at Flying Squirrel are completely different, and amazing. I ended up here for a birthday party, a very large birthday party that easily took up 2/3 of this tiny restaurant late on a Saturday night. Reservations had been made though, and a large table set up for us, with water and plates. We were all standing around talking for a good while, and our server did a fantastic job of getting beers and pizza as people came in, and having separate checks. There were easily 40 of us, and probably at least 25 different checks, but it didn't phase them one bit. The pizza though. Wow. It was thin, but not soggy. The crust was slightly burnt, but not to the point that it was all you could taste. Perfect amounts of cheese and sauce, and lots of interesting topics, from the exotic to the traditional. My boyfriend and I opted for a special of the Herb Alpert, which had Salumi oregano salami, roasted garlic, basil, and lots of herbs. It all went together perfectly, and nothing was overpowering. My boyfriend and I both loved it. As we waited for our pizza, we couldn't help but notice how delicious all the other pizzas looked, including the Charles, which is a classic with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms and olives. I've worked in multiple pizza places, and pizza is pretty much the only thing I am not picky about, when I am sharing, I let the other people decide, but when I get to choose, I would definitely pick something a little different, with basil, or arugula, multiple cheeses, etc. This is a great local business, with a small beer tap list, but all of the choices were fantastic, I went with the Chuckanut Kolsch, which if you know me, know that there is no bad Chuckanut beer. They also have pints of bluebird ice cream, which I LOVE! I am quite sad that I live no where near any of the Flying Squirrel Pizza locations, but believe me, I will find time to visit again soon.

They're a little on the pricey side, but for a very very nice, gourmet pizza joint you really can't go wrong. They have very friendly servers and a nice vibe. I love their Spinach salad and the REM pizza in particular. Just overall delicious. After salad, pizza and drinks our total for 2 was about $50 but that isn't so bad for how much we got and how well everything was made.

What can I say? I like any place that has a pizza named for the great Eartha Kitt. She's delish by the way. We've also enjoyed the pulled pork and the Jimmy James. Really happy to have the Squirrel in our 'hood.

We were searching for a new local pizza joint and boy did we luck out! The crust, toppings, cheese, and service were as good as it gets and the price for a four-ingredient pie was a mere $21.83. I left the wonderful waitress a fin for her enthusiasm and alacrity.

This is a cozy gem off the beaten path. The waitstaff is very personable without being pushy. The ambiance is amazing. The music is generated by mix tapes. Yes real cassette tapes people bring can bring in from home. The pizza is very thoughtful. You can tell most of the ingredients are made in house. Most others are from local purveyors. The chicken pizza with host cheese, basil and mama lil's peppers is a hit. The meatball pizza is also worth coming back for. If you enjoy a easy going layback restaurant that had exceptional pizza this is the place for you. I know I will be a regular.

FINALLY! We've been searching for somewhere to fit our pizza and beer desires, and we need look no more! Flying Squirrel offers some of the best pizza with a fantastic logo. When we went we went half-sies with a pizza: one side had garlic and prosciutto, while the other had cheese and prosciutto (sense a theme yet?). The pizza was crispy while still chewy, and had the best toppings to sauce to cheese ratio. I also tried the spinach salad, which came with gorgonzola and pepper bacon. I could have ate just that, in mass quantities, because of how good it was. So glad we found this place...we'll become regulars for sure!

I love Flying Squirrel. I have long been a fan of the Ballard location and this one does not disappoint. Much more family-oriented, given the location, but still the knockout pizzas and interesting appetizers that I expect from Flying Squirrel. Always a great choice for a casual date night or evening out with friends for drinks and pizza.

What a fantastic surprise. I have been to the FS in Ballard before, and have passed by the one in MapleLeaf countless times but never headed in. Decided one night I didn't feel like cooking and was fresh out of beer on top of laziness, so I read some yelp reviews and pizza was striking my craving. Couldn't tell if they filled growlers from the website, so I gave a call, and they DO! Winning again. Ordered take out, filled the growler with a seasonal and the rest is history. Pizza was so dam good I nearly ate it all to myself that night.

First visit based on yelp reviews. Decided to go instead of Serious Pie. As other reviewers stated, the crust is awesome. Thin and crispy. Wife and I had half The Sofia (-- Salumi coppa, artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, mushrooms) and half Corleon (pork sausage, cheese, Italian broccoli). Service was great. Server was friendly and helpful. Price was reasonable. I will be returning to try the other toppings.

Loved the pizza, but..I ordered online several month ago - worked great. Tried to order today, no way to order half and half, then it told me I was outside the delivery area. I am 8 blocks away! Guess I shouldn't have waited til the end of the 'maple' coupon validity. Gave up and called Pagliacci. Oh well...

My friend lives nearby and we have been waiting for a long time for them to open. What a great pizza these guys make! They have such unique pizzas and high quality ingredients. It looked like most pizzas were around $20 but that was well worth it! The atmosphere was nice and dim, which I am always a fan of. This place works as a casual place to grab some yummy pizza with friends, but could also work for a date. I noticed they had a lot of high chairs stacked by the restrooms, too, so I imagine they are kid friendly. We ordered the roasted beet salad (lovely) and The Forager pizza with olive oil, garlic, ricotta cheese and Chantrelle mushrooms. It was a tough decision to make because it looked like you just couldn't go wrong with any of them. Muy excellente! Hmm... What else? Oh - they have a rotating beer menu with NW Peaks Brewery, which we shared a pitcher of. It was awesome. Our waiter was super nice and helpful. Everything was perfect.

The Flying Squirrel makes inventive pizzas in a friendly environment with an attentive, friendly staff. I've never had a bad meal here, and the beer selection is great. It does get loud and the music can be a bit odd, but who cares when you're having such a wonderful meal.

Great gourmet style pizzas and salads. Couple of good Georgetown beers on tap too. More pricy than your average pizza place, but you get what you pay for. Pick up and dine in only. Luckily I live nearby...Great addition to the neighborhood!

Love, love, love Flying Squirrel. Friendly staff, accommodating for kids and groups, great beer selection, amazing pizza, not too bad prices. We always get #9, sub mushrooms for peppers. They're also great about making substitutions. Free delivery in Maple Leaf. Just wish they were open earlier in the day!

This place makes pretty consistently solid pizza and they have a great beer selection if you're eating in house. Their ceasar salad is also good, and very large. My only reservation about this place is when doing take out we've had soggy pizza a couple of times. It's still amazing, and probably one of the best pizza places in the area

This is a unique place, well worth your time. They are more than a good pizza joint. They obviously are careful and considerate with their menu and have found a way to be artisanal without the snobbery. Great pizza, salad, and appetizers. Good handful of beers on tap. All the while emphasizing seasonal and local ingredients. Service is timely and nice. Do yourself the favor!

The first time I went to Flying Squirrel, I ordered the #5 pizza which includes pulled pork, cilantro, cotija cheese and lime. It sounded interesting and different, and it was recommended by our waitress. Sadly, I found this pizza to be way too dry, and little insipid. I was disappointed. Luckily, our friends brought over 2 delicious pizzas from Flying Squirrel a few months later. I am now a fan, and have since returned two more times in the last 3 months. I can highly recommend several of their pizzas, and particularly like their proscuitto and arugula.

  • Jay V.

This pizza was far to over priced for the quality and taste. Super thin and greasy makes for a mess. 20 bucks for a large made me cringe. They also managed to toss a fist full of olives into the center of one of our pizzas. Only thing tasty was the crust. DO NOT GO HERE for the pizza, maybe the bar makes up for the sorry pizza. We'll go back, just not for the pies

Delicious pizza. Delicious salads and divine ice cream! Convenient location and friendly staff. The few times we have called in take out orders, the food is ready before we arrive! The only negative would be their limited hours (don't open until 5pm).

The 'za is great but the music is better. I don't know who's putting together the house mix but it's awesome. You will want to get a to go box for it.

Without a doubt one of the top 3 pizza places in Seattle. We don't have many good pizza places and this place was AMAZING! Got the prosciutto pizza #4 and the ham and pineapple and they were both perfect. Crust was my favorite part. Bravo!

  • G M.

These are serious pies! Great traditional offerings and great new-school creative varieties too. Small but quality beers on tap. Most ingredients, from meats to the ice cream, are locally sourced. The waitresses are great, Sonne (sp?) in particular. Sometimes loud with children.

Totally delicious pizza, meets my east coast pizza snob standards. They make proper pizza here; not the usual Seattle joke of a pizza. Very friendly service as well. I've been to the Seward Park location a couple of times, but this Maple Leaf location is much closer to home, and that makes me very happy.

Okay, pizza places are popping up all over the place again, but I have to say that Flying Squirrel pizza is freaking awesome. It's the quality of ingredients and innovation that really shines through. Their crust is absolutely perfect - chewy, crisp, tasty and just the right thickness. The menu is full of great combinations, with a ton of vegetarian selections. Excellent salads (I'd highly recommend the arugula), great wine list, and fresh local beers on tap. I ordered my pizza online and had to wait 15 minutes, but I was happy to have a cold beer and chat with the friendly staff. Welcome to the neighborhood FSP. See you very soon.

This was our first visit to Flying Squirrel. The last pizza place at this location was NY pizza and I'm not sure why they went under. In any case, I had some insider knowledge that this was going to be Flying Squirrel and was eager to try it. We arrived at around 7pm, ordered some cheese bread for the boy ( no single slices) and the Charles. The cheese bread came out first and then about 36 mins later the Charles came out. It was a long wait, only to be told when I asked that there was an order of about 10 pizza's ahead of us. I'm not gonna trip, the meal was pretty much free after our server took off a HUGE discount. ( big ups) I would def. return with some friends and try something else on the menu. Hopefully the wait will be shorter.

we ventured out last night to try this place- and it was GREAT! the service is quick and knowledgeable without being pushy. the pizza prices seemed on par with via, which was fine, but we quickly learned they are almost twice as big. BONUS. and it was SO delicious. the sauce is sweeter than most pizzas we get, but it wasn't overbearingly so. we tried a basic pizza with sausage, and then one with egg and prosciutto. we loved both equally. we'll definitely be back and probably split a pizza instead of getting two, but i am not complaining about the leftovers.

I live less than a block away and this place is simply amazing. Great food, friendly and welcoming staff. I highly recommend this place and anticipate gaining 20 pounds from eating there so much in the months to come.

My wife and I decided to walk up to the Flying Squirrel tonight to grab a beer, and in Maple Leaf, it's hard to find a family friendly spot to do that type of thing. Beers were priced very fairly, only $5 for a pint of local brew and the crab dip with home made bread sticks were tasty. My only complaint, and I've been feeling this way since they opened up this location is that it's very sterile inside and not at all comfortable.

So since it seems like nobody delivers pizza in Greenwood, Seattle, I went for this place because they had a cool name. But once I checked their menu, I loved the variety of incredible pizza toppings. I got the #9, which has chicken sausage, goat cheese, medium spicy peppers, mozz., spinach and red sauce. It was completely delicious, even though the toppings kind of fell off when picked up. But they have THE BEST cheesy bread I have ever had in my life...just the perfect mix of herbs, delicious cheese and very addictive! I ordered from Maple Leaf, which has no parking and a tiny but cozy restaurant. But they are redeemed by the fact that they carry a few flavors of Molly Moon's Ice Cream. I will definitely order from here again! Oh, and if you bring in one of your mix tapes, they give you 10% off your order.

Great pizza, and good beer on tap. We had the cheese bread, which was fabulous! Very busy on a Friday night, could have used more staff and there were huge parties of kids/parents there which made the whole place seem rather crowded. Would go back, though, because the pizza is great!

I am so stoked to see that they have a solid 5 stars after 9 ratings. This location is new so its clean, well decorated, and easy to park at. We came on a Saturday night with a party of 8 and were seated within 15 mins, and had a great server that put up with our indecisiveness. After some talking we ordered pretty much everything on the menu. Beet salad, Antipasti platter (figs were on this!), spinach salad, and 4 different kinds of pizza. There were ALOT of leftovers..but pizza is good for breakfast cold so no worries there! Everything was so good, I could of just kept eating and eating!! I wanted to go for lunch today but after driving halfway there I realized they did not open until 5 :(...I cannot wait to bring my BF so he can understand what I have been raving about!

This place has very good thin crust pizza. The atmosphere is very low key and the wait staff is really nice, helpful and friendly. My partner and I have gone twice and will go back again. You better like kids because there are a LOT of them, but I found that most were well behaved although a few screamers were there tonight.

Took the family here on opening night (including a 17 month old), and had a great time. Attentive staff, and nice menu selection. We chose one of the popular pizzas (#5, Pork and Cilantro), and enjoyed it, but felt that the pork was a bit dry. However, it was opening night, and we'll be back to try a more traditional (American) pizza. Big plus for the beer selection (Pike Kilt Lifter on tap), along with local wines.

Flying Squirrel is getting the benefit of the doubt with four stars with my husband lobbying for three. No complaints about the pizza--we agreed that their sliced potato pie was flavorful and well executed. The beer choices are adequate although like most places in Seattle heavy on the IPA's and lacking on the darker beers. Seating was comfortable with a small bar area and 10 or so tables. So why not five stars? Simple answer: the music being played was absolutely punishing. It was not only too loud to permit table conversation or to be there with a family but the music itself could only have come from plugging GWAR into Pandora. Granted, they have sound absorbing panels on the ceiling--thank you for that--but who puts that kind of music in a neighborhood pizza place? Flying Squirrel, we're going to give you another chance, but please oh please play something to enhance the experience rather than turning us into take-out only customers.

Pretty good pizza. I like thin crust pizza and at least this is thinner than most pizzas in Seattle. The sauce is decent, the choices of toppings are good, and the crust is chewy. The salads are good too. I'll be back.

As a Cap Hill kid it feels blasphemous to call any pizza place better than Pagliacci, so I'll just let you draw your own conclusions. This place is delicious 100% of the time. I'm generally a no crust person but I could eat their crust sold separately. I do wish they had a location that did slices, I would grab lunch from that place everyday. Their staff is great, it's true like some others have said that the place is often overrun by kids, but the slice location would solve that problem. They will also have delivery at my hypothetical location.

I love Flying Squirrel, I've been going for years since finding this gem at Genesee. I've even visited the Ballard location before it closed. However this one will be forever avoided going forward. We came in after 7 hours on the road hungry and looking for a drink. It was clearly too busy for the servers (been there, understand that) but 20 min just to get our drink (let alone food) does not bode well. It was a full hour after ordering before our food came out. And please don't give me excuses about why it took so long when you're serving others ahead of us. If you can't support your clientele, at least be honest with the expected wait.

Some truth talk here: I love pizza. Good or bad, if it's pizza, I'll eat it. I have been known to eat dry, overcooked pizza with a cardboard dough and while complaining about how inedible it is, I'll continue to eat it. Fortunately for me, this neighborhood joint doesn't just have edible pizza. It's actually pretty darn good. The restaurant also has a nice neighborly feel. Never too crowded but also never so empty that it just feels awkward to be lone diners. I've had them deliver pizza to me once. I've also visited the establishment once. Both times, I was pretty impressed. Their delivery was very prompt and service was very courteous. I was sharing with a vegetarian friend and was not left wanting meat. We did half the REM and half the Count Basil and loved it. I came in recently with a friend. We enjoyed their personal pizzas (we ordered two different kinds and split them). We ordered the no. 3 which was a more classic pizza with house made sausage and that was probably my favorite. We also had the no. 5 which was a little less traditional and more inventive. It was delicious. I love carnitas but was worried that in pizza form, it might be dried up. I was fortunately wrong. It was scrumptious. We also loved their modest but well-selected beers on tap.

this is a neighborhood hangout that is eclectic. pizza is pretty good and the beer is cold. i was tempted to get a growler. lol. the tunes are ancient cassettes played up front at the bar! i saw tiffany! it's not much on looks and it's fairly small inside. lots of staff and people were super friendly and even funny. i'm almost talking myself into another star here. would i come back...yep.

Flying Squirrel has all-around great pizza. Thin, tasty crust and high quality ingredients. You get what you pay for, totally worth it. They also always have a good selection of beer on tap and good service. If I ate pizza regularly, I would be here all the time!

Flying squirrels are not capable of powered flight like birds or bats; instead, they glide between trees. Dis is hella family restaurant. kids runnin all over da place. and this one kid lookin at me like i sprouted wings on me. I wasn't able to glide the freshly-ingrediented arugula salad into mah mouf, cuz they didn't provide us with enough forks by the time it arrived. I brushed up mah knife skillz tho. Our water ended up getting refilled only one time during the entire dinner. THAT BEING SAID.... The NUMBAH 9 is probably one of the best pizzas I ever had. we talmbout: chicken sausage, laura chenel goat cheese, mama lil's Peppers, spinach, mozzarella, sauce. we talmbout, cheese, cheese, cheese, and CHEESE. UP IN THIS. you know it's real when you take the pizza from the dish, put it on yr plate, and the cheese act like a tightrope across niagara falls cuz i'm fuckin salivating over here. you could wrap dis cheese around the earth 8 times and feed the obese nation of MURICA over and over and over... we talmbout, combinations of flavors that will get you confident and lovin yrself. The menu has great variety....each pizza is unique and you'll find something for each hater in yr crew. Except for the Surfin' Squirrel: zoe's artisan ham, fresh hand-cut pineapple, mozzarella, sauce; just call dat shit hawaiian and get on with yr lyfe. Decent 4 outta 5

I would give these guys a five if they delivered. The crust is just a tad thicker than a lot of the neapolitan style pizzas that have sprouted all over Seattle (not saying that's a bad thing) so it's still a great thin crust but with just a little more bite.

Our whole family loves this place. Yes, on the pricey side, but it's certainly in the running for best pizza in town. The staff are all great, the beer is fresh, and best of all, it's super kid friendly (the kids love it). I also love that they now have personal size pies; perfect for ordering the kids their own pizza while the adults enjoy more of the creative offerings. Yum!!

We love the pizza at the squirrel; always ordering by phone and picking up a large for two. It is extremely expensive but Seattle is expensive.

Definitely on the pricy side (even by Seattle standards) but some of the best pizza the area has to offer. Try the #9 pizza and pretty much any one of their salads.

Great place! Excellent pizza! The atmosphere was so-so, nothing to shout about but definatly relaxed. They had a pretty nice selection of beers, no tap soda however so prepare for a bottle virtually notated what you do. But holy wow the pizza. They break the mold and experiment a bit but they obviously know what works. My girlfriend and I had the lemon and potato pizza, which we were apprehensive about but feeling adventurous. Worth the risk! It's a very foreign taste that makes the first slice somewhat awkward, but once you adjust the flavors compliment each other so well. Very nice place! Will be going back soon!

This past weekend my girlfriend and I were hankering for some pizza, so we decided to try a place we'd never been. I had heard good things about Flying Squirrel, so we decided to give it a go. It did not disappoint! We arrived at the dinner rush, and it was unclear at first where the waitlist was and if we needed to speak to a server. A waiting customer was nice enough to point us in the direction of the waitlist that was hanging inconspicuously on the wall hidden behind some menus. Ten minutes later and we were at a table drooling over the menu. We went with the Booker T, which is a spring seasonal pizza with chicken, tomato and other fixings on a creamy garlic sauce. Wonderful. Service was great, and an employee even chased us down the street to bring us our leftovers that we had forgotten on the table! My one comment that isn't completely positive would be the underwhelming beer selection, but I understand given the neighborhood and the family-friendly atmosphere. We will definitely be back!

I was here last night about 8:00 PM. It wasn't too busy but wasn't busy either. The atmosphere is of a local, neighborhood joint (which I personally enjoy). Kind of pricey but still pretty good. We had one of the seasonal taps, (21st Amendment's Sneak Attack Saison). We had the #2 (pepperoni and garlic). It was delicious. I prefer thicker crust pizza, but my boyfriend swears it is the closest style you will get to an East Coast Pizza out here. We finished the meal with some Key Lime Pie, and it was pretty fantastic.

This is a great place, with good quality pizza. Nice thin crust, quality ingredients, and reasonable prices. I had The Charles, and was very happy with my selection. It is very kid friendly as well. Overall, a great place. Check it out!

LOVE this place! They make an amazing vegan (cheese-less) pizza with zucchini & olives, are fast, inexpensive and delicious! My husband loves the Mothership (meat orgy) and the pulled pork/cilantro. If you haven't tried this place, you are missing out.

I would consider myself a pretty big pizza snob. I have it a least once a week, and I've been touring the city looking for the best pizza in town. So when I found this place on yet and read some reviews I was super excited, especially since it is so close to my place. turns out this place is super overrated, I would normally rate this place two out of five but since I think the average is over inflated I wanted to bring it down some more. Dough was ok, meat was average, sauce was too tangy, couldn't even taste the cheese, a little over cooked, and WAY OVERPRICED. I had high hopes for this place. I really wanted it to be good, I even tried to convince myself it was good, but just couldn't do it. Overall I wouldn't recommend it, I won't be going here again.

Bought this for my wife she didn't want to do our usual half cheese half no cheese so I didn't get to taste. Monica a true Yelper told me it was good so since she had a rough day at work and had been saying she hadn't had pizza since we moved Mr. MD had to grab her a well recommended pizza. So glad I did she was very happy with the pizza and glad she never has to go to Papa Johns again which in Lubbock Texas is as good as it gets #Foodsnob #Seattle #Pizza looked great smelled great. I may go by and get a cheese less pizza but I want a crunchy crust maybe they can accommodate by keeping it in the oven a little longer I like a true Italian Naples Pizza #Michelin star worthy Flying Squirrel I will be back

This place is a cute neighborhood joint and the service is great. However, I always leave feeling like the pizza could be better. The dough is kind of bland and the toppings could be more flavorful. Salads are decent and they have some beers on tap.

My friend and I came in for dinner on Friday night and sat at the bar. What a cute neighborhood joint with delicious pizza! We shared the Herb Alpert pizza and it was so good! The man helping us turned out to be one of the owners. He chatted with us for a bit and was very friendly. They have a few taps and they're all good choices. We had the Fremont Summer Ale which was their rotating tap for $5/pint. $15 for a pitcher. The pizza was $20 and was plenty for two of us. The pizzas are sold in one size only which is the size of a large. We had 2 pieces each so we had half of the pizza to take home for leftovers! I may or may not have eaten the other slices that night at home. The pizza was absolutely delicious. I loved it. The crust was thin and crispy and the toppings were plentiful. There wasn't a lot of cheese. I would prefer maybe a little more cheese but the slices were very satisfying. I really appreciated that the crust was crisp and intact and not soggy like some thin crust pizzas tend to get. I really liked the laid back, casual decor. The restaurant was really busy. It would have been a 20 minute wait for a table so we opted for the bar. They sell Bluebird ice cream to go for $6/pint. Overall I was very impressed with Flying Squirrel and look forward to returning soon! $15 each before tax and tip each for dinner and a drink. Pretty reasonable and very tasty.

Great artisan pizza and kid friendly. Nice rotating tap and local ice cream for dessert! Right now they have a strawberry/goat cheese/walnut pizza that I highly recommend. But as their ingredients are always fresh, this is only available through the summer. Only downside is their gluten free option crust is a little pricey as this seems to be pre-made. But overall a great experience and tasty option for the Maple Leaf neighborhood.

Flying Squirrel is my foodie kid's favorite pizza place, and how about that, we like it too! The sauce is vibrant and well seasoned, the crust is chewy, crisp and the toppings are creative. They also make some simple but really fresh and creative salads, and serve up some very good craft beer. This is a low-key pizza place, and a good regular go-to spot. Its not the high end --the fancy overpriced smaller pizza with exceptionally creative toppings (the Serious Pies, etc.) or the overly atmospheric pizza place that is more about the decor than the food (ahem, don't want to throw anyone under the bus, but you know who you are.) Flying Squirrel is the day-in day-out Seattle-grungy but fantastic neighborhood pizza place that really nails it with bold tastes, excellent crust, and super casual atmosphere, perfect for a jeans or shorts family night. Good for those foodie types who still want an exceptionally tasty pizza, even on a very low-key Friday night.

I visited Flying Squirrel several times and I haven't been disappointed by the pizza here! The pizza is quite large and is enough to feed 2-3 people at around $20 each which is reasonable. They also have a few beers on tap and you can get a pitcher for about $15. Pizzas I've tried: -No. 10 (bacon, arugula, tomato, mozzarrella, sauce): yum! -The Charles (pepperoni, homemade pork sausage, mushrooms, olives, mozzarella, sauce): one of my faves! -No. 8 (free-range eggs, Prosciutto de Parma, arugula, mozzarella, Grana, red onion, sauce): Good but not as savory as I expected compared to the one at Serious Pie. It felt like they dumped a bowl of arugula in the middle of the pizza though...it was a bit arugula overload. I really enjoyed the thin, crispy crust. It was delicious! I also tried their caesar salad that comes with anchovies upon request and it was really good. Service was also friendly. The casual decor is also nice when you just want to come in for some good pizza and relax with some friends. Keep in mind that this place can get busy and you would have to wait for a table. I look forward to coming back here and trying out some of their other pizzas, including their seasonal ones. Tip: The Chinook book offers $5 off your total bill!

We order from Flying Squirrel at least once week. The pizza is delicious, and the delivery service is fast and friendly. The restaurant itself is great and has a nice neighborhood atmosphere. We always order #4: tomato sauce, mozzarella, prosciutto, mushrooms, arugula. Simple, fresh, delicious crust... You can't beat it. The only disappointment came when they recently updated their menu and got rid of the pizza with mole salame from Salumi. It was excellent and unique! Maybe it didn't sell as much or maybe Salumi stopped making the mole salame. Whatever the reason, we were sad to see it gone. Nevertheless, they have delicious pizza, delivery, and friendly staff! Try it and you'll be hooked!

I'd give 1 start for the pizza alone, but giving another star for ease of ordering online and nice service inside. Unfortunately, pizza was a flop. I ordered the bacon, arugula tomato, and about 2/3 was inedible. We were only able to eat the outer third with the crust. Center 2/3 was so wet and soggy. Also, bacon was, hmm, how to describe, gross. We peeled off and contemplated giving to our dog. If you like white, soggy bacon on your pizza, this may be up your alley. But, for us, it was just a waste of money. Sorry guys, we gave you 3 tries. For great pizza, go to Serious Pie or Delancey.

Worst gluten free pizza I think I've ever had. When I got it, it wasn't warm, there was a bit too much cheese, that hadnt melted all the way, and the crust was half raw. I nicely asked to have it recooked and it came back out still cold and completely unchanged despite hardly anyone in the restaurant. Our server was pleasant but slow and ineffectual. She didn't ask how it was once it was recooked. After I asked for a box and explained I was just going to cook it at home, she apologized but didn't offer to fix it. I had been here previously once when my husband got the gf pizza months ago and it was burnt and not good that time either. It's not like they just started making it. So many places get it right. Not sure what the issue is, but them seem uninterested in getting it right. I won't go here again. By the way, I cooked it at home on 450 for 10 min and it was a lot better. Weird my oven seems to work better than theirs.

The pizza was excellent, nice selection of beer on tap, great service from an attentive server, however this place was like Chuck E Cheese without the games! Seriously, every table had 2-4 toddlers at it. There was more spilling going on than The Exxon Valdez! All that being said, I am a fan and will be back! Somebody tell me when it's Adult Swim!!

YUM!!!! Delicious and affordable pizza! We came for a friend's birthday party and arrived a bit early. I was starving so got the $6 Half size of the arugula pine nut salad. It was a very nice sized salad. It was bright flavored but felt like it was missing some element, perhaps a little seasoning. The beer selection is not bad. They had a Scuttlebutt IPA and the seasonal Freemont Holiday ale on tap, which we enjoyed. I felt like the selection could have been a lot better, but I will say that the Scuttlebut IPA that was on tap was on sale, so that was nice. I believe all beers were around $5. Now on to the pizza. This pizza is top notch, and all around $20-$21 per pie (one size only). One pizza feeds 3 people or 2 people plus leftovers. The crust is not too thin and is prefectly crispy/chewy. We split our pizza and chose the BBQ Hawaiian as well as the delicata squash with a garlic cream sauce, bacon, and caramelized shallots-OMG. The sweetness and creaminess of the squash paired with the salty bacon and sweet shallots was off the hook. Such an amazing combination yet simple. They also have bluebird ice cream by the pint. I really wanted to try the vegan horchata, but had a place to go after and figured it would melt before we got home. Oh well, I guess I just have to go back!

Not only they truly a family friendly restaurant (every table had kids at 6pm on a Thursday) but I thought the pizza was the best I've had in Seattle. Crisp crust, flavorful toppings, cheese was perfect. Plus the house red wine was awesome. Hard to beat $6 outside of happy hour! Saw a couple people come in for takeout and another person making deliveries. Great neighborhood place all around. Oh, and super clean bathroom.

Fun place! Squirrels EVERYWHERE! ... except in the one place where they would be the most interesting.... the pizza. ;-p Although... I didn't ask for a squirrel shaped pizza.... Hmmmm. Their cheesy bread is tasty. Not flat and greesy like other places (which will remain nameless). Their pies are hit or miss. The one I got was kinda 'wet' from the sauce. I'm not sure what was up with that... It still tasted good though. Just... oddly "wet" (and by "wet" I don't mean "saucy"). It was like the sauce was losing structural integrity (cap'tin!), and the water was jumping ship. :-/ They do feature some great local art, though! I can't say I'm a fan, because the pie I got wasn't spectacular, but I suspect it was jsut a fluke (and I don't mean the fish).

This is my "go-to" pizza place - I love it every time I come. They have a creative menu with interesting combination pizzas and a terrific rotating tap. if you can't decide on just one pizza, they'll happily make a "half and half" for you. Our favorite order is a half and half Eartha Kitt and REM, perfect for my wife who is vegetarian. Also don't miss their roasted beet salad as a perfect starter to share for two. Great, friendly service with an easy-going vibe.

If you're smart, you'll know that the Maple Leaf hood is where its at for the best pizza! Greenlake seriously is lacking for a pizzeria like this! Super thin crust with all around fresh ingredients = A+mazing! Staff as unbeatable with great service even when its hectic. I am docking one star because of the crazy kid infested atmosphere. This is in a residential neighborhood but the place was swarmed with super loud kids at every table when we came in on a weeknight. There was also a lot of bread crusts on the floor by our table, kinda yucky to sit down next to. Forget it if you're expecting a chilled out dinner with some wine. You might end up with a baby hanging off your shoulder while eating that delicious pizza slice. Get take-out instead!

Number one of my two favorite pizza places. Flying Squirrel consistently blows me away. They use the freshest ingredients and make the best thin crust pizza. The servers here are always cool, and although not perfect, they fix their mistakes. The owner of Flying Squirrel is awesome, he made reservations for me for my birthday! We had a great party and they served us well. I also walked out with a Flying Squirrel t-shirt :) yah! Fav pizza here is the pulled pork one. What's also cool is they do special ones, so there's always something cool and new and interesting to try out.

My favorite thing is like minded, food obsessed people reccommending a place to me and sealing the deal with "this place is right up your alley". Checked out the Flying Squirrel on a double date and the restaurant was quiet but still had a good amount of people for dinner. For the group, appetizers were the duck pizette and meatballs. The duck pizette, the waitress informed, is pretty popular and sells out quickly but wasn't anything special to me. It had all the familiar flavors of Peking Duck (roasted duck, hoisin, green onions) but somehow didn't translate well to being served on pizza crust. The meatballs were 4 large balls that were tender and flavorful, I only wish there had been more! We split 2 full pies who's names escape me at the moment but ours was the pulled pork pie with mexican flavors. The pulled pork on the pizza was generous but all the other toppings (red onions, cilantrom, cotija cheese) didn't help it much. It gets a generous squeeze of lime but I found the overall pie to be a bit bland that needed a better sauce or maybe more cheese. My table mates but the "White Album" pizza and that wasn't very memorable either. Overall, I was slightly disappointed with Flying Squirrel but can see the potential it has. I would give it another chance.

It helps that they're so close, because I've given Flying Squirrel plenty of time to iron out their kinks. I'm glad I did, because I now rate this as one of my favorite pizza places in Seattle. No more burned crusts, no more inconsistency. I give them an unconditional five stars.

It all started with a lousy greeting (as in, we waited over 10 min to be acknowledged as everyone avoided eye contact and stayed away fromm the front of the restaurant. It was so ridiculous we started looking up alternate places to eat. Miraculously they redeemed themselves when we were finally talked to and we had great service the rest of the night and super tasty food! We started off sharing the garden salad- simple with a nice light dressing. Then on to the seasonal fig, goat cheese, arugala and prosciutto pizza. Wow awesome flavors and great crust! Ended with the molly moons salted caramel ice cream and chocolate chip cookies. Yum!

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country.
