Sad update: we were told that D&H is going to close later this year. The building has been sold and going to be torn down. So go before it's gone.

Nice little place! Service was excellent. Bartender was serving the bar as well as the tables, some I'm sure it can get hectic at times.. No complaints today:) I had the house salad, added steak and blue cheese, and it was super yum. Prices are comparable to other nearby places. Super laid back atmosphere. I'll definitely revisit. They are open for lunch@11 m-f now.

I will miss the pies Julie always made, Jeff would have a comment with your beverage and the care that was shared will be what I miss. Thanks for the time shared, I will cherish every one.. Cheers! For the last time...

I am so sad that our neighborhood bar closed. I didn't know until I saw the sign today. I will miss just walking across the street for a drink or 2 especially during a power outage..lol! I hope another restaurant or bar of some sort will go in its place because we have enough office buildings and apartments ruining our view at Dexter &Hayes

This place is a divey place. That said, there isn't much places to drink in the area (hopefully working on it) and usually my co-workers and I come here sometimes. Service could be a bit better (with a smile on their face) but they do seem to treat their regulars great. I like my divey bars (I live across from a bunch of them in Belltown) but at least they are will greet you when you enter and patient when you ask what they have on tap. Would this my place of choice? no. Will I come here out of desperation for a beer after work? maybe.

This little spot sits tight in between Queen Anne and the Aurora. A neighborhood spot for the locals, this place is no frills and all beer/wine. I ordered the grilled tacos and was surprised to find them very tasty. Everything else is so-so. You've got your usual pub fare food.

Off and on, over the years I've been a patron of this little niche drinking and eating establishment. It's just a solid choice, to meet friends, grab a beer or cocktail and get some good old fashioned comfort food to snack on. The staff here is super friendly and usually working close to capacity to keep up. But, they luckily are great at their jobs and provide some great service and are really attentive. The drinks are good, the food choices are good and always leave, being glad that I stopped here.

This place is finally open until 2 am every night like a proper bar. Probably the best karaoke night I've been to & karaoke usually isn't my thing. The only problem is that I get a weird vibe from the place. On more than one occasion I've walked in & walked right back out & left. Wish I could give it 3.5 stars, it's right in the middle of 3-4 stars.

I love this place. This is where I go if I want to get out for a bit but don't really feel like leaving home. It's comfortable there. Jeans and Tshirt kind of place. Staff is friendly and makes a point of remembering you. Food is consistently good.

Local dive bar that doesn't try to pretend it is anything else. What it does, it does well: rail drinks and happy hour menu that covers the basics. Yes, there's a crowd of smokers out front on the street and, no, this place is not where you would take your parents when they come to visit. But for relaxing on a hot day or escaping from the rain, D&H does alright.

I was drinking quite a bit tonight. Their Christmas Eve as the pub will be closed tomorrow. Merry Christmas ! I got cut off! Not the first time at a bar but the first time here. Sure put a cap on my buzz ! Prolly saved my life. Made it home safe and sound! Thanks to the ladies at this pub! Merry Christmas!

Great food, great bartenders- good rotating selection of beer and sometimes they even have pie. Love this bar :)

I can't emphasize this enough: this is a great place, a spectacular place, hidden inside a modest little brick box in the desert that is Dexter Avenue North. The food is really really good. As good as any pub in town - the meat is local and sustainable, c'mon now: how many pubs source the ingredients this righteously! And, delicious. The burger can actually be eaten, by hand, with one napkin (usually) - and it is spectacular. The spuds, salad, chili, sliders, tacos, a fine selection of drafts . . . This would be a great place anywhere in town. Warm, friendly, good service - it doesn't have views, but it does have a pool table and people are always having a good time around you. Seriously: why go to Ballard or Fremont or up QA hill when you can come here?

  • Ellis J.

They have a great French dip, good staff but I can't believe pool is a dollar a game. I refuse to pay that much for pool which is bummer because if it was reasonably priced I'd be here all the time playing.

I love love coming to Dexter and Hayes. Wednesday nights are probably my favorite because of the Karaoke ! The people watching is excellent. The food is good and the pool table and jukebox downstairs makes this neighborhood bar a great place to meet friends and enjoy a relaxing, happy evening.

Best chili in town, the rest of the menu is solid, and there's always a good local IPA or two on tap. The service is awesome, and this is just a great neighborhood bar. And yes....I WOULD (and have) brought my parents here.

  • Maria G.

Had dinner there on a Friday night. Although they had stopped serving food, the waitress offered us some chili. The chili was really good. Really hearty and filling. They also give you some brown bread with your serving of chili. The brown bread was DELICIOUS. The drinks were not too expensive and it was a pretty chill vibe in the bar. We would go there again, especially for the brown bread.

I love this place. they have a small menu and everything is perfect. Try the french dips. The bartenders are friendly and attentive and recognize regulars. Dexter Hayes would be my favorite bar, EXCEPT THEIR POOL TABLE COSTS $1 A GAME! What kind of shit is that? They don't even have any free pool nights. Charge 50 cents a game and it'll be 5 stars.

Great neighborhood family owned pub, I bike past here almost every day and have been meaning to try it. A recent bike failure gave me the perfect reason to pop in for a beer. The staff was friendly, the beer was cold and delicious and the other customers were welcoming too. Perfect corner bar! We'll be back!!

Just came back from Dexter & Hayes... My first time dining @D&H... I LOVED their lentil burger very much! It was love at first bite! :D Will come back for more! Thanks, D&H!

  • Patrick D.

Solid neighborhood bar; they work hard to make it an inviting hangout. There aren't a lot of other options for bars nearby, so it's good that D&H is here! They generally have a good beer selection. Ninkasi IPA is frequently on tap. The food is surprisingly good as well. FYI, they discontinued the Cuban sandwich many people have raved about below (it took too much time to cook, putting a strain on their limited kitchen facility). The tacos and burger are very good though.

  • Kiely S.

D&H is a such a great place to hangout with friends, grab a bite to eat and drink a delicious cocktail. The outdoor garden area is my favorite. The staff is super friendly and always willing to go out of their way to make your experience great. When it comes to the food, I was seriously impressed. This is no typical 'bar food'. I don't find many pubs I can go to with fresh ingredients (and almost all of the food is made in house like the ham for the ham and cheese sandwich and the pork carnitas for the street tacos!) and a good selection of non-greasy foods (also plenty of juicy burgers) to go along with your drink. I ordered a margarita one day and was amazed to find them squeezing fresh limes instead of using a prepackaged mix. It's the little things like that that keep me coming to D&H. Seriously, try it out.

WOW! This place is on a fairly busy street, but once inside it intimate and cozy. This was my first visit and I am VERY impressed. My friend and her boyfriend and I sat at the bar and ordered our drinks. They'd been before but wanted me to see the place. So we go downstairs and enjoy our drinks on the patio. The back area is so quiet. They even have a grassy area with real flowers surrounding the yard. I met the cook, most of the bartenders and one of the owners. The staff is so friendly and laid back; you feel right at home. I did order a bacon bleu burger for me and my friend to split and it came pre-cut on two separate plates (awesome!) and was so juicy and good I almost ordered another! Definitely stopping by this place again!

Great, friendly service & truly awesome food- better than you'd expect from a bar, by far. Perfect little neighborhood place.

This is a review based on considering Dexter & Hayes a bar more then a restaurant. I lived 10 blocks from this bar for over 6 months and went to it a few times. It is the best neighborhood bar I've been to in Seattle. This may be because it's one of the only bars in the Westlake area. The beer selection is great, it's not crap like you get at a lot of bars, and the food is definitely above average for bars of this type. During the weekend nights it can be either super dead or very busy, it really seems to just be a gamble (not based on if a Seattle team is playing). The bartenders have great personalities and are quite attractive which doesn't hurt. On to food, most people say the Cuban is one of their best items and I'd agree. It's a great tasting Cuban for a decent price. The salads are also generally pretty tasty even tempting me a few times to switch my fries for them. Downstairs they have a billiards table which is great for just playing some simple pool during the weekday or during the weekend when places like Jillians charge a cover for S****y DJing and worse service. As well downstairs are two real dartboards that can be used. tldr: Good neighborhood bar.

The perfect place for a party. We reserved the basement and enjoyed a remarkable saturday night there. The staff was great. They're friendly, cool and helped out with all of our requests and their service was great of course. I would definitely suggest the D & H when down in Westlake and if you're looking for a meeting place for a large group of friends.

  • Scott S.

First the good: neighborhood vibe, the picnic table out back, grass-fed beef burger with homemade pickles on it, and the good beer you expect at every bar Second, the not so good: amazingly loud, kind of dingy in a not quite charming way, poorly vented kitchen gives everything a greasy smell that's not as special as you might imagine, and a typical-for-Seattle cliquish feeling about the place. But, I'd go back. The burger was that good...

  • Alaina G.

My hubby & I are regulars here... and not just because we live less than a block away! It's a small, hole in the wall dive bar... where you might not expect the food to be as great as it truly is! So far we haven't been disappointed with anything we've ordered! The chili is my fav, served with all the right fixins and a slice of the yummiest homemade bread (still can't quite put my finger on what kind it is), it's basically dessert but goes so well with the chili!! The carinitas street tacos are also de-lish... same with the house salad (love the apple slices on top)... hubby has had the buger and loved it, AND can't forget their Bloody Marys! The bartender makes them from scratch, none of the ready-mix nonsense stuff! We always grab a seat in the main bar, but there is also a downstairs (with pool and darts), as well as an outdoor patio area.

If you don't live within 300 yards, go elsewhere. I live very close, and it is consistently painful to go there; once or twice a month my amnesia kicks in and revisit. The food tastes good, but is very slow. The service is always terrible; and the bartender.... is in my opinion one of the worst in Seattle. She could could screw up "Maker's Neat"; I think it is just a gift. It is so painful to have something so close be so mediocre

Literally the best burger I've ever had. EVER. One of the owners has remembered us from day one as the game night folks :). The staff is friendly, honest, and fun. We love the neighborhood bar feel to it and it's right along the bus line! Perfect. This is my favorite date night spot.

You typical neighborhood pub. Staff is friendly and they have a pretty decent selection of beer on tap. Try the french dip of it is a special that day. Its really good and the bread is so fresh

  • Heather H.

God dammit - I love this place. First - the bartenders really do learn your name. Second - the tiny kitchen produces some tasty bites and the handles change with the seasons. Third - being in the basement (playing darts, pool or the illusive Golden Tee) makes me feel reminiscent of being at my best friend's house, who just happens to be having a party. And finally - Trivia on Sunday's, BBQ party's on the patio and plenty of neighborhood regulars willing to let you into the club. It's a done deal.

Fun neighborhood bar with decent food. Tried the Cuban sandwich and really liked it. Nice beer selection and friendly staff. Love the patio on the nice summer evenings and good to know you can shoot pool if want.

My favorite neighborhood bar when I visit Seattle and perhaps my favorite in the country outside of those in Chicago! I keep moving to hotels closer and closer so that I can easily walk there and back. Just when it seems like things a dying down for the evening a new group of locals arrives to keep it interesting. Great service and very friendly customers (yes, there are pool and darts below so if someone invites you to the basement they aren't necessarily a psycho killer). The food is excellent in keeping with the "public house" tradition and enough local microbrews to sample different ones throughout the night. Keep up the great work, Jeff!

  • Andy G.

How can you not like this place? Good beer. Nice people. Awesome beer. It's a solid place to chill on a weekend with your friends and shoot some pool and/or play some darts. I've lived near D&H for roughly two years now and I love starting/ending/spending my nights there. The menu just got better as well. A lot of solid dishes with a new chef, how can you ask for more? Sit down, grab a beer and a Joe's Cubano and enjoy.

We were on our way home, wondering through bars on a friday afternoon and stopped into Dexter & Hayes. My husband had zipped by here many times on his bike. Bartender was good. Beer selection wasn't too extensive and didn't quite meet my snobby taste. Always interesting to sit at the bar and hear the chatter between the staff. Women's bathroom had a door that led to a storage room? or something odd.

  • Joe W.

A neighborhood bar with good beer, tastey food and friendly people. What else could you want. Still not knowing anyone in town and not wanting to sit at home and watch TV on a saturday night I decided to walk up the road to Dexter and Hayes and I am glad I did. The bartender was great, introduced me to a couple of the locals who turned out to be friendly and amiable to drinking with the new guy. They had plenty of beers on tap, about 10 I think, with enough variety to suit just about anyone's taste. As for the food, well it was shockingly good. As numerous other reviewers have stated the burger is good, very good. In fact i would put it in the highly recommended category, it comes with a home fry kind of potato with a lot of seasoning and even more garlic on it. Great meal, it went perfectly with the beers.

  • Laura L.

Although I still have not been to the Sunday night trivia here, I have high aspirations of doing so in the near future. Many types of beer are always on tap, and even have beer in a can, which I recently learned is an especially special acquired taste. I like the food lots - I recommend the humus plate, the tomato soup, the veggie burger, the fries. Love hangin downstairs - feels like my friend's basement, only they bring you drinks. And guess what. They have an old school vending machine in the bathroom. Strange but.... awesome.

    (4)
  • Justin W.

Great food and atmosphere here. Also some pretty good brews. Had Joe's cubano sandwich (which was amazing! ) and an old Seattle lager. If you haven't been here, you should definitely check it out and grab a beer and sandwich!

Dear Dexter and Hayes, My name is Ti B. I have had the hardest few days of my life. My life has changed family wise, friend wise, job wise, and emotional wise...I am a mess. After visiting 3 airports try to get you, I am beat. I am laying low and I need some therapy. I need some resolution. Thank you for the Seattle warmth that you bring. When I walked in to greet you, your warmth grabbed my brown skin and your dimly lit atmosphere spoke to my heart. I just knew that night...this was my moment for healing. After a couple Washington Apple shots, vodka sodas, and your company, I was able to let it all go. De-stress and let the healing begin. You have won my heart. If I was local, I would come for your liquid therapy daily.

Very nice unpretentious neighborhood pub. You can't go wrong with their house burger. Good size grass fed beef patty. No fries available, but you won't miss them with the delicious roasted potato side dish. Small main floor but don't miss the downstairs area.

  • Andrew J.

It's small and cozy but it seems like a place where everybody knows your name. I've only been here once, but my friend from graduate school lives just down the street and is a regular. He tells me that it's just an amazing spot with good beers on tap and great staff. Typical bar food (nothing to write home about) but it does hit the spot after a long day of work.

    (4)
  • Jessica M.

Typical bar food, plus more! I had a grilled cheese and tomato soup combo and the husband had some meat sandwich that he thought was delicious. This has potential to become our neighborhood bar/restaurant . After we spent the whole day moving into our apartment up the street, we yelped to find the closest place for dinner and drinks. The waitress was a bit snotty, but she seemed to know the regulars. I plan to update my review after additional visits.

  • Jacklyn T.

Always a great place to hang out! The staff is friendly and welcoming. The food is great and your glass is always full! Their fresh squeezed Grey hounds, screw drivers, and Margaritas will have you coming back for more! Thanks Julie

  • Kevin H.

I love the $5 vodka & red bull, and the Guinness on tap, that's but a short walk from my flat on Dexter, in Westlake. The food menu has changed recently and has gone from divey to delicious, and I cannot say enough good about their food choices. I've had some great times here, and some bad experiences with servers. I would recommend if you're a gay couple looking for somewhere to go to relax, you may want to skip this place. Single, or just looking to play darts, this is totally a good place to hit.

  • Laura M.

How can you NOT like this cute little place, when your a 'usual' (thanks to my current apartment) AND when Heffie (newest bartender) knows you by name and your choice of drinks... "It's Like CHEERS" for me. But then again all the bartenders are the best and it is a fun little place to hang out, shoot the ... and knock around some of the balls (ON the pool table) thank you! HA HA Love you guys!

    (4)
  • Karl H.

Let me start off by saying that this place is located on the corner of Dexter and Hayes. This little fact has been a source of great frustration between me and my friends for years. Anyhow, this is your typical neighborhood bar. Good food, good drink and good people. After you've been here a couple of times you are pretty much known by the bartenders and by many of the other patrons... and if you bring your favorite mixed cd you'll most likely get it played at some point in time if you hand it to the person behind the counter. Most of the other reviews for this place are pretty spot on... pool table is temperamental, dart boards are a little worn out and the outdoor patio is a pretty good size. Not too mention you really wouldn't even make a special trip out here unless you were once or still are a regular. It's one of those places where you're driving around in the area and you stop in because it seems cool enough for a quick drink till you meet up with other friends at a different place. But, once you're in there you'll probably want to come back because it is just cool enough to hangout and have a good time.

Get the Cuban sandwich, you won't regret it! I was here for a friends birthday party and I had a blast! They had reserved the downstairs for our party and it was a cool, private area with a couple rooms, a bathroom, a pool table and even had access to an outdoor patio. I would definitely recommend this place to book parties as we had the entire downstairs to ourselves and apparently they don't even charge you to reserve it! (+1 star) Now onto the food, drinks and the staff. First off, I have to give mad props to our waitress. She was friendly, attentive and has a great memory. There had to be 20 or more people down there and she took all our orders by memory alone, never jotting anything down. She only forgot my drink order once and as soon as she saw me she realized it and rectified the situation promptly (+2 stars for her alone). I already mentioned the Cuban Sandwich, but it's worth mentioning again, it was that good. The only Cuban sandwich that I've had that was better is from Paseo. This Cuban had the usual pork but they ran out of ham so they substituted bacon, which was fine with me. It also had red peppers and came on a nice crunchy sandwich roll. The sides I got were Jo Jo's, but these were more like large french fries baked in oil and they were delicious. The other side I got was a salad which came with spinach, goat cheese, sunflower seeds and a nice vinaigrette dressing. The food was so good I had to mention it to the chef when I saw him come out of the kitchen. The chef was a very nice guy who obviously enjoyed his job as he spoke with me about the menu and the food there. (+1 more star!) The beer I had was a Mac n Jack's African Amber Ale and was delicious, though it always is. It sounds like they have a pretty good selection and I'm a little disappointed I didn't try more of a variety. Oh well, that just gives me something to do the next time I'm there enjoying their Cuban sandwich, mmmm!

Darn you Dexter Hayes. Darn you for draining my wallet and feeding me too much good beer and good food. Seriously, this is the best neighborhood bar I've found. The staff are some of the nicest in Seattle. I only make it in once or twice a month, but most of them know my name. The bartenders are friendly and will take a few minutes to hang out with you from time to time, when they are not busy. Don is an amazing cook, often making up his own meals that aren't on the menu. If you do stick with the menu, the hot ham sandwich is a must. Usually, the patrons are very friendly and easy going. I usually come out having made a few new friends over a few beers and a good conversation. On Friday and Saturday nights, it can get a little fratty (what is with all of the WSU alumni who show up here?), but it never gets out of hand. If you're looking for a party atmosphere, this is not the place. But if you want a comfortable neighborhood bar where the spirits are flowing, this is the place.

This is for the surroundings and service. Free pool on Sundays and Darts downstairs. Your neighborhood bar for the community of dexter street. We spent a late night enjoying pitchers of good beer and games of8 ball. Great fun on a cold Seattle night.

This is a great neighborhood pub. Everyone who works there is super nice, the atmosphere relaxed and friendly, the drinks are strong, and the food is really good. Well, at least the chili is, which I usually get. It comes with a delicious piece of their dark, sweet, homemade bread. Mmmm. They also have a pool table, darts, a jukebox and a large outdoor patio downstairs.

Dexter & Hayes is my new favorite neighborhood bar... which I have to travel all the way around the lake to get to. Went here for the first time last night for "one drink". Four hours later, we stumbled home. In between, the following experiences were had: 1. Watched a Hells Angel fix the Jukebox (one of the only CD-boxes left in the city, fyi) and bought him a shot of tequila in exchange for 50 music credits. Allowed him to tell us inappropriate jokes and laughed at them. 2. Had a lively debate with a bunch of East Coasters who tried to convince my die-hard Seattle/California sports fan friends that the Patriots don't cheat and that they personally suffered for 87 years before the Red Sox won. 3. Played a crappy game of pool and some fun golf spinny wheel game in the basement. 4. Discovered the outdoor patios, wished we'd been there early enough to order food from the outdoor grills. 5. Purchased cigarettes out of the machine in the women's bathroom. 6. Marveled at the cost of the entire evening, which was considerably less than we would have spent at other establishments. 7. Planned to come back often. UPDATE: We threw a birthday party for a friend with about 20 people. This place is awesome because it feels like you're in someone's HOUSE, that just happens to have a full bar and someone to serve you. I'd recommend for your low-key friends who don't want to make too much of a fuss, and want a casual place to sit and chat with friends.

I gotta say, I really like this little neighborhoody spot. Good beer on tap, cozy atmosphere and better than your average pub grub. The only reason I feel the need to give it just 3 stars is that the server lady was very...cold. No smiles. No niceties. Nada. She seemed to dislike her job or something. As a former server myself, I don't expect syrupy sweet corporate smiles. It wouldn't have taken much to make me satisfied with the service and I definiately wasn't happy with her attitude. Hopefully, there will be someone else to help us out the next time we pop in.

I've been to this bar a few times because it's close to my office. I work with lots of 20-somehtings, but we usually end up going somewhere farther away. When I see a place like this, I'm expecting bar food. I wouldn't mind that they're trying to offer "elevated" after-work eats if they put a twist on traditional bar foods. What would be wrong with an amazing basket of truffle fries? I find the food is ok, but not quite worth the price. The only thing on the menu that I would recommend is the street tacos - otherwise find a restaurant.

Great place for a function. My wife was looking for a location to have an auction fundraiser. Seems like every bar in town has an outrageous food or drink minimum, or charge an arm & a leg to rent a room. Not only did the D&H reserve the downstairs for just a damage deposit, but Jeff was the most accomodating host I've ever worked with. His vendors donated well over half the items we ended up auctioning off and we raised a ton of money for a great charity. Not only is this a great place to host an event, but it is just a wonderful bar. The staff is friendly and remembers you after one visit. They have a great beer selection and a very homey environment. This bar will definately remain my top choice to grab a beer, or several. Thanks D&H.

When we move to Dexter Ave this fall, it was great to quickly learn we have a great bar right down the block. This is now one of my favorite bars in Seattle. Casual atmosphere, good beer selection, and food that's not your typically bar fare. The only negative I could give this place is that the food can take a little long but other then that this is a great place to go. I typically get their Cuban Sandwich or burger, both are great.

Ok, good location. Its a dank bar and dark which isn't bad. The downstairs has a jukebox and pool table and tow dart boards. Again not bad down there. What ruined all of this for me was the price of beer. WARNING: pitchers cost a lot of money. Try 16$ for a microbrew and 11$ for your typical PBR or Miller. The bartender told me they do not want us younger college kids in there and hence the high prices. And guess what he was right, because I will never go back

Jeff is knowledgable and affable - proud & happy to introduce friends to him. The other bartenders rate about 1/2-1/3 of his knowledge & service level, but they are all very pleasant. And .. It improves daily. I dig this spot.

How marny great things can I say about this bar? The bbq on sat summers, better than any rib place I have had, potato salad was the best I have had, its homade and had a nice sprinkling of dill. Bartenders attentive with a heardy pour. Its an old apt.house building converted, its like being at your uncles house. Downstairs is heaven with pool and a beautiful garden.sitting.smoking. eating area. The owner julie embraces you like family and the staff is warm too. If you want some great home made food and some drinks come here! I am planning on having my next birthday bash here for sure!

Fantastic after work joint. Sometimes I get a little tired of it, as going to the same place every week can do, but inevitably every Friday booze calls and I go tromping up the fat hill to have a few (the hill is very fat. Just FYI in case you want to climb it.) Lovely little place, nice people (although the guy was a little mean to me once. That is once, however, and I've been there way more than once) and they have a surprisingly yummy hummus plate. And they haven't kicked us out yet, despite a couple of broken chairs, numerous complaints from their neighbors and a fence scaling incident. Gotta love the love from neighborhood bars.

This is my neighborhood watering hole. Friendly bartenders and strangers to talk to. Good live jazz music on Tuesdays. Their hours are a bit odd but so is the D and H.

Any place that serves Red Stripe is a place I wanna frequent. Friendly bartendress and damn tasty nachos! Parking can be challenging but if you're willing to traverse a steep hill, you'll do fine.

I give two stars becuase I really enjoy visiting the establishment, but never can because they are NEVER OPEN! i.e. a neighborhood pub that doesn't open until 8pm on Sat and Sun?!? And stays open until 2am on Sunday?!? Seriously, 8pm to 2am for Sunday hours?

I checked out Dexter & Hayes last night and have to say that it's been deemed my "official local water hole". Far from a dingy hole in the wall which I don't mind however, when it comes to a nieghbor bar I'm quite impressed with this one. The Bartender was very nice and energetic for a monday night. The drinks were mixed well and they have Sierra neveda on tap!

this is really a great little "community" pub. it really has that neighborhood sense and feel to it. its probably because most people would not (and i advise you not to) seek it out as a destination type spot. this isnt the kind of place that you would want to go out of your way to visit, its just not worth it for a simple beer. that being said, if you live in the westlake, northeast queen anne part of town this is a great after work spot. the happy hour deals for food (which is just your typical pub fare) and drinks are great and the atmosphere and the barstaff are really very friendly and outgoing. even though the place seems to be packed with "regulars" and people typically know each other from around the block, there is a very welcome attitude to everyone at this place. as far as decor goes, the bar has a very small front end with a couple televisions for sports (they play hockey!) and theres a nice garden patio out back and a small little rec room with a pool table and dart board down below. seriously, if youre in the neighborhood stop by during the late afternoons, its a very welcoming mix of both young and old. also, it gets pretty happening at night, especially on mondays when their resident piano man plays a set starting at 9pm.

I came here for a friends birthday party. They reserved they entire basement for a 200 dollar deposit. So you can have the whole basement to yourself and if you don't burn the place down you get it for free. This is awsome. Anyway the drinks are good and I spent way too much so it must be a good bar.

It's usually not my first choice, but I always have a good time at Dexter & Hayes. The pool table doesn't necessarily release all the balls every time, and one of the dart boards could use some help (bent wires and old cork can tend to "push" your darts out sometimes)... but for some reason this just lends to the overall "friend's basement" feel. The staff is extremely attentive and you are never lacking for a drink.

Not too shabby for a neighborhood bar. It's got a pretty laid-back atmosphere, pool and darts downstairs, plus outdoor seating. Totally casual. Reminds me of a backyard bbq when I sit outside. But when it's not so nice out, the bar has a few tvs and a pleasant staff. The only drawback is that their food menu is only on for a few hours (~7-9pm). Combined with their already short hours (~5pm - 2am), I have yet to actually make it there when they are serving food!
