Eh, not good, not bad. Definitely not memorable. I think I had some sort of salad and a bloody mary. I only came here because I bought a strangermart.com coupon so I got $25 worth of food for $12.50.

I went to Deluxe a long time ago and my experience was kinda meh... So I somehow always found somewhere else to go in the neighborhood and never went back. Until last night that is. We were promptly seated and our service was impeccable. Andrea (I believe that was her name), altho obviously very new (I think it might have been her first day, she was being trained) was great! She suggested the mac and cheese, and boy, was she right to do so! First of all, that meal is huge. I got full on the salad that it comes with. Then I got a huge pile of cheesy goodness with prosciutto and pancetta. I was somehow able to finish half of it. It was delicious. So was the cocktail I got - lightning bug. It has blackberry cognac and fanta. Yummy! My boyfriend got a philly cheese steak sandwich and said it was alright. Maybe a tad tasteless. I didn't care too much, I was in carb heaven :) All in all, a very pleasant experience, great food and service, and I will not be avoiding the Deluxe anymore, that's for sure!

Again, another disappointing trip to a capitol hill eatery. Total trip time: 1.5 hours. Order? 2 cokes and a 2 BCT baked potatoes. Received? 3 mushroom/onion baked potatoes at different intervals throughout the night. Charged for? 2 full priced baked potato meals. I don't understand how that equation adds up either but our server sure seemed OK with it. I made sure to do a little math magic of my own when the bill came. I also made sure to write my thoughts down in picture form on the bathroom chalk-board. I think a picture of me, surrounded by fire in a baked potato vomitorium adequately expressed my feelings about the experience.

I've eaten here twice. the first time was a 3- decent, I don't remember much about it. The second I went with a group from work and experienced so many flaws in the service had I not had to leave early I would have argued with them to deduct our automatic gratuity and then some... we had... one waitress set up three tables to accommodate our party size (I think around 8 or 10?) and then another remove several chairs- when we told her the rest were still parking she claimed we couldn't use 3 tables, took one table and several chairs anyways (this occurred after we were seated and had started ordering) leaving us to go grab the chairs back from the party who had been given (but did not need) the chairs she had taken from us so that we could cram into 2 tables. I attempted to order a drink from 3 or 4 different people- each time I was redirected "I'm not your server". despite the fact we entered at least 30 minutes prior to the end of happy hour (it was after work happy hour event, after all) I was unable to get someone to serve me until 5minutes after happy hour ended. When I mentioned I had literally been trying to order for 25minutes she said, "well, you're 5min late, there is nothing I can do about it." Beyond this they consistently brought food out in a strange order, serving one girl her food before another who had arrived and ordered a full 45min prior to her! I assume several of these problems were errors in the kitchen, communication etc but not once did the waitress apologize or offer to check on things, take something off the bill etc. Since we were a large group I didn't expect quick service on the food but I would have though a group that had specifically asked to keep drinks coming would have gotten a little more attention than that. Most of the food took over an hour (burgers, friends, chicken, salads) once it had been ordered (this also took at least 40minutes) I've eaten at a variety of places and never experienced worse service than that night. If they were severely understaffed or something the least the waitress could have done was explained.....

Deluxe does some things pretty well, and others not so much. Stick to the burgers, apps, or the steak salad and you should be fine. Don't come on Burger-ama night if you don't like crowds and frenzied service. On our last visit we were even "wowed" by the service (and I so wish I could remember her name!). Five of us came here for dinner on a rainy Saturday evening and were acknowledged right away. They were already full but had a table clearing, so after a short wait we were seated next to the gas fireplace. I asked the server if it was possible to turn it down, as it was pretty warm. She cheerfully said "No, but I can turn it off." After checking with the couple on the other side, she did just that. Nice. She took our orders, brought drinks, kept the water filled, reordered empty drinks, and brought our food over the course of the hour. All with a smile and friendly attitude. Calamari strips were very good, but too few for the price. Hamburger sliders with blue or cheddar cheese were great and easier to handle than a full burger. Fries were good as well. Everyone enjoyed their food and we made it in and out in plenty of time for our movie at the Harvard Exit. The only thing I wish would change is that there is usually a bit of a funky smell (not of food, more of old dish rags) in there. Maybe it's because the place is showing its age a bit?

Oh man has this place gone downhill. I haven't been in for about a year and it's just not the place I used to love. First off, had to wait for about 10 minutes before anyone came to seat us and he didn't even bother to say hi or...wouldn't even make eye contact. Maybe he's ashamed to be seen working here was my guess. So he sat us down, no mention of specials or "can I start you off with a drink?". Just sat the menus down and wondered off. Waited another 10 for our server who was at least friendly and made mention of the specials, etc., ordered cocktails and the Mac & cheese appetizers. When the Mac & cheese arrived I thought there was some mistake...2 shriveled up little tidbits, not what they used to be. Hmmm, trying to cut cost I guess, but they weren't even good. Then the BIG surprise arrived! The burgers! Or what they are trying to pass off as burgers. I had the mushroom & Swiss burger and my date had the California chicken burger. Umm, did this place stop using beef cuz mine sure didn't taste right. And we counted 6 mushrooms on top of it. I've had better burgers from Dicks. Then the chicken burger was so overcooked he could barely chew it. Oh Deluxe Bar & Grill, you once were one of my favorite burger joints but tonight, you only gave me heartburn. But at least the onion rings were great. Will I be back? First I'm going to check out the new burger joint opening down the street and see if they treat me better...

Yelped saved the day on this one. We needed a nice, but not overpriced in Capital Hill to meet up with some friends, and this worked out well. I reallly liked the beer selection (After Guiness and Stella, all the other were rare and good), and we happend to hit it at happy hour to take advantage of some half priced artichoke dip serve with tortilla chips. A little different, but delicious. Didn't get to try any burgers or play any pool. Hopefully next time.

This place was innocuous enough that I didn't even remember we had been there until I saw it on my credit card statement -- and even then, I had to ask my friend "did we go someplace called Deluxe?" In my defense, at this point I was in a car with three Seattle locals and a former Seattlite, so I was completely along for the ride. But once I remembered which place it was, I remembered that their "happy hour" all night after 10 pm (including half price appetizers) was pretty rad. Five of us got out of there with a beer and an appetizer each (or in one case a non-half price burger) in our stomachs for a smidge over $50. My only complaint? My "black bean nachos" were severely deficient of the advertised "black beans," though they were tasty otherwise.

Used to be the best place for happy hour garlic fries but the style of fries changed for the worse I hope they bring back the old fries. Other then that I'd go to Deluxe anytime rather then Apple Bees.

Was right down the street from the Harvard Exit Landmark Theatre on Roy St, so seemed a perfect place for a light, reasonably priced meal after the movie. Adequate food that sounded better than it tasted, and a waitress who seemed clever and friendly enough but in fact gave terrible service! My husband sprang for the expensive kobe beef burger, even thought we were there on the night that burgers were the special deal (there's a different one every night, and they sounded like a great value). I had an entree salad. Menu says meat will be cooked medium unless otherwise specified, so he ordered medium rare. When the burger came it was MEDIUM WELL. We very diplomatically asked the waitress about it, and she insisted he'd ordered it medium well, and that she'd repeated this back to us at the table. He's never ordered meat medium well in decades, so I'm sure we would have both noticed had this been the case! It's a really noisy place, but I don't think so! She wouldn't have it replaced or even offer us any credit off the bill, and we think that was totally unacceptable. There was nothing WRONG with my salad, it's just that the ingredients, athough they sounded good on the menu, didn't really meld together. They just seemed randomly thrown together. I can't pinpoint exactly what was wrong, it's just that this problem rarely enters my mind, so I have to assume that most restaurants do a better job of product development and execution. Will definitely NOT come back here next time I'm in Seattle. Don't understand why there's a waitlist, except that it seems a good place to meet friends, and seems to pick up for late-night drinking.

Longtime favorite on Capitol Hill serving awesome burgers and great American style appetizers. Wonderful bar with strong drinks and great selection of wines by the glass such as Ridge Vineyards selections. Good dinner entree selections for those who want a more formal experience, this place really does have something for everyone. Service is professional, knowledgeable and unassuming.

Came here for happy hour after shopping at Bliss a few doors down. The meatloaf sliders were awesome. So delicious. The burger sliders needed a bit more seasoning though. The chicken wings were gigantic -- like each wing was huge and the whole serving was huge. Happy hour appies and drinks for three worked out to only $25 or so. It's a little quiet there midweek but if you're there to eat, it's a good deal - buck off beers on tap and half off appetizers. Not hopping with people but I was not there for the music or social scene so that was fine for me. Oh and service was quick and friendly.

Great happy hour!! Practically half off appetizers and the bacon cheddar fries are AWESOME! I love that they have a huge menu including giant baked potatoes and salads. I don't know why its so hard to find those things in Seattle. Plus they are always rocking 80s tunes. My kind of place.

Went there on wednesday, and they have the burger bonanza thingamajig going on on Wednesdays for Happy Hour (I think it's all burgers for $4.99). All I got to say is yuuuuummmyyyy. I got myself the mushroom burger, and it's so well seasoned that I pretty much have no complaints about it. I wish the fries were also seasoned properly, but the cuts were thick and not too greasy, so I can't hate on the fries too much. There's this cider drink called an apple something that I really like and is warm, so it hit the spot on a cold day. All in all, I like the Deluxe and will come by again for more burgers and fries :)

The Deluxe is the neighborhood restaurant par excellance; it's a local favorite at the north end of Capitol Hill, and the wait on Burger Night can't all be people from the Hill. If you first come to the Deluxe on burger night --- every Wednesday, when burgers are only $5 --- the first thing you'll notice is the crowd, and the wait. Wait time for a party of two can be nearly an hour on Wednesdays, though 30 minutes is more typical. The burgers are bedecked with all manner of garnishes. My personal favorite is the BOA, with Bacon, Onions, Avocado, and Swiss Cheese. Other options include cheddar, barbecue sauce, a supposedly hot Louisiana sauce, and others. Burgers can be replaced with veggie patties or chicken breasts for a reasonable additional charge, and come with French Fries, which are out-of-the-bag but adequately prepared. At Burger Night prices, these burgers are definite bargains. On other nights, you can get more burger for about the same money down the block at Cafe Septieme, but the Deluxe is definitely more laid-back. The food and atmosphere at the Deluxe are both miles above the Broadway Grill, its nearest competitor. On a Wednesday, you may also notice the tasty selection of beers. The taps rotate, and frequently favor seasonal products from local microbreweries. You'll also find hipster standbys like Stella Artois. Mixed drinks range from the frightening (I've been warned off of several items by waitstaff) to the sublime. The Bloody Marys are, reportedly, very good. (I don't drink them, but everyone else seems to love them.) If you come any night other than Wednesday, you might see a little less madness and a wider slice of the menu; an always-helpful staff, who recognize and are delighted to see regular patrons; and the best darned Macaroni and Cheese Seattle has to offer. Appetizers are tasty if unexceptional; the only negative mark there is that the Papperdum-crusted chicken strips have recently been accompanied by so-so ranch dressing, rather than the excellent mango sauce to which I'd become accustomed. But that's the complaint of a man who keeps coming back to the same restaurant --- which is the sort of place that the Deluxe is. Burgers are $8, give or take, on burger nights; beers are typical prices, and other entrees range from $10-$20, with more on the low end. Appetizers are around $8-10, but most are offered at half-price during happy hour.

Burgerama. I think that is sufficient to understand the 5-star rating. I love this place, it just makes you feel at home. The burgers are worth eating even if it's not a Wednesday night. Service has always been pretty fair... they're usually busy and it's not a fine-dining place so don't get too huffy if you have to flag someone down when you need a refill on your ranch. Let me take this opportunity to mention how much I liked our server Gavin. He was attentive and friendly and I just got the feeling that he understood me; I needed a slice of tomato, it was there moments later. I looked tired, he suggested, correctly, that I take a nap. I just loved him, I'm going to request him from now on. Anyway, it's an awesome place for a casual gathering of a group of friends. Plus, they have pool tables in the back if you're looking for a way to burn off some of the calories you've just ingested. This may be my favorite restaurant, I just can't help it.

angel smurf is on one shoulder saying 'there is happy hour on FOOD, in addition to drinks, during normal eating hours!' devil smurf is saying 'the reason the incredible mac 'n cheese tastes so good is all the butter, dripping butter...you can't see it now right after the hefty but jolly server sets it upon the table, but you will drink it down after you come back from that late night show all drunken and hungry.' oh, you are so right devil smurf!

I had not been to the Deluxe in years for no other reason then I don't live on the hill anymore and parking up there sucks ass. How ever I had friends in from out of town that I used to frequent the Deluxe with "back in the day". Some things are better left a memory. Patrick our waiter was wonder full, very efficient and checked back at just the right times. He was attentive without being overly so like some servers can be. Plus he's adorable, always a bonus. THE FOOD.... Mediocre at best. I had some cheese stuffed chicken breast thing that sounded great on the menu and would have been had I not needed a chainsaw to cut it. Dry and tough and cooked to death. I was so disappointed. My friend had fish and chips that he tells me "tasted funny". Other friend had a stuffed baked potato which he said was great, then again how do you fuck up a baked potato? Over all the food was not what we expected or remembered. We won't return. Two of the 3 stars are for the server.

Every time we go here the service and food gets worse and worse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tonight we arrived w/ 3 close friends... server took forever to get to our table. Literally 20 minutes before she took our order.. way too long for drinks.. I ordered another round to go w/ the food- didn't arrive until well after I finished eating... food came- server forgot to ring in calamari.. and there was a hair in my boyfriend's burger.. awesome, had to send that back.. new burger came before calamari.. finally got drink.. calamari smells/looks/tastes like fish sticks (long & weirdly shaped-- not rings at all?? kind of like they ground up the squid and squished into strips ) really horrible service round and round.. all the other employees were dropping stuff off to our table while she was chatting with a co-worker who was sitting at the table directly across from us.. Had to tell another server there was a hair in our food and our server never acknowledged it.. I felt bad for her co-workers. I highly doubt anyone or anything can drag me back to Deluxe.

Folks have already covered atmo, pool, fattening foods, specials, and drinks... so I just want to give a brief shout-out to the friendly, accomodating staff, and mention that if you're veggie or vegan, there's food for you here! There's a gardenburger of course (available at Burger 'ama on - is it Wednesdays? - when burgers are $5), and fries with garlic topping, and the house salad here is lovely! Lots of nice fresh mixed greens, chopped tomatoes and red onions, and seasonally changing toppings... I haven't figured out when the changeover is, but I've noticed that sometimes you get yummy croutons, and sometimes you get dried cranberries! And the portion size on this baby is crazy enormous. Yum yum yum! My only quibble with The Deluxe is price.... it's just a shade on the pricey side for drinks.... but heck, that is always my quibble! So my ONLY and SOLE caveat is that if you're on a budget, and it isn't Burger 'ama Wednesday (or there isn't any other special running) this is probably not a good "el cheapo eats" option.

I wanted to try this place as every time we had been at that end of Broadway it was packed. Sometimes a crowded place is a sign of good food and service and sometimes not. I say definitely NOT when it comes to DeLuxe Bar and Grill. My wife and I went in on a Saturday for lunch and we were promptly seated - so far so good. After what seemed a long time, a waiter finally appeared at our table and we ordered. And waited. And waited. After some 25 minutes, I was able to get the attention of our waiter and asked where our food was. He did not seemed concerned and strolled back to the pick up area returning a few minutes later. From the film on top of our soup, it was clear the order had been sitting waiting for pick up for a while. I'll get to the food in a minute. OK, here is my main gripe: the table behind us arrived after us, was served before us and received the waiter's almost undivided attention. After the long wait for our food, it was almost as difficult to get the check and I resorted to waiving both hands to get the waiter's attention even though he was looking in my direction and walking towards us - we were simply invisible. The I realized why: the wait staff we saw were all gay and the table getting great service behind us was occupied by 2 gay couples. We were being ignored as we were a hetero couple! I'm sure all kinds of people reading Yelp in Seattle will come down hard on me for this comment but it was pretty clear to us why we were being ignored. It was surprising to get this treatment in a place like Seattle especially along Broadway but there you have it. Back to the food....the soup was so heavy with cream, we were concerned about an immediate coronary so we left it. We'll save the call to 911 for another time. The grilled beef salad (called black and bleu) was OK except very heavy on the dressing. The beef was cooked medium rare as requested and was OK although not too flavorful. My wife had a bisquit to go with her soup and it was pretty good. Overall average but certainly not worth going back for...I regret not walking down the street to Dick's frankly. There are so many great places to eat in Seattle that I wonder how places like this stay in business especially as regulars would have a severely shortened lifespan.

Average. Nothing more can be said. Food is REALLY average, bordering below average. The place is saved by a decent bar. But in general, stay away unless you have a Val-U Pak coupon that gives you a free meal and you're going with buddies. And go during happy hour to get cheaper drinks.

After the Broadway Grill lost its great service, food, and charm, Deluxe became our new third place. Comfortable atmosphere, great staff, and always new and interesting beers on tap. The menu has seen several great changes recently, and both happy hours offer great deals for people on a budget. Could not recommend a better place to relax and have great food on Broadway.

If you like Mac and Cheese order it here. You won't be disappointed...plus there will be leftovers unless you're a big eater or are just coming off a hunger strike. Was a bit crowded when I was there and it seemed that people were aloud to congregate everywhere, not just at the bar. So be prepared to get bumped around a little...have a drink or two and you won't mind so much. Waiter was sassy and efficient, but not very friendly. The person I was with had a burger which he said was better than he expected. Worth a repeat visit.

ok so I used to come here all the time. I have been going to this place for the past 5-6 years and probably won't go back anymore. The reason I went here in the first place b/c the burgers were so good and cheap on Wed for burgerama night, even though the service was bad sometimes I still kept going back b/c I loved the burger so much! I recently went there and found out that they changed the burger a litttle bit, the bun and and burger set up has changed. Apparently they changed bakers and the bun on the burger ruined it so bad, the bun is way to big for the meat and you can't even taste anything except the bun. Its so sad that they ruined a good burger, it was my favorite place! I will prob never go back again unless they go back to the old burger.

The recent change to the happy hour menu was very disappointing. However my favorites are still on the regular menu, just never half price. The mini mac n cheese on the appetizer menu is the BEST especially without bleu cheese and crispy on top!!

Blue cheese bacon burger, you are my only friend. Actually I also enjoy the "oops was that too much vodka?" bartenders. ;o) I hear they do an awesome breakfast as well.

It's ok. Breakfast is decent and not too expensive. Dinner is the same. Cocktails are pretty good and they have a drink special each day. The burgers are their best options, but I don't eat meat anymore. They really don't have much for vegetarians. Mac and cheese is pretty good, but the small one is more than enough to make you feel a little ill after finishing it. Service is decent, but nothing special. Overall, it's fine. Not great, but not terrible.

I was a frequent Wednesday lunch special customer. Over the past few weeks I've noticed a serious decline in the quality of service. Then, over the weekend, I had dinner there with my wife. The aroma where we were seated was not pleasant. It smelled like old food. When our plates arrived, the fries were soft, luke-warm and quite nasty. I'm a french-fry connoisseur and I've never been super-impressed with the fries here. To me, they tasted like they were fried in very old grease and left out under a lamp for a long time. I told the waiter and he gave me a coupon for a free appetizer. It wasn't really enough of an incentive for me to want to return. I also noticed that I got charged for a side of BBQ sauce. Not much, and I don't typically look at the bill when it arrives. But it was something noteworthy - I mean, it's just an ounce of sauce, not like it was a side order :-/

Went for drinks after dinner. Drinks were decent, if a little unnecessarily sweet and fancy pants. The clientele was a little too hipster for me, but the waiter serving me my Wild Turkey as a appletini brings it up to 3 stars from 1.5.

It's a nice place to go if you're looking for mediocre food, some drinks and pool. I haven't experienced anything here to make me choose Deluxe over another restaurant for dinner. With the exception of prime location and a good atmosphere in the restaurant, nothing to merit going out of your way to visit Deluxe.

I like this place. Fattening food, good beer and a dark atmosphere. Tip: They have half off burgers (including Vegi) on Wednesdays. Super cheap and a good mid week outing.

Don't expect a lot, it's comfort food done pretty well, and that's why I went there. Before I Yelped I'd never bother reviewing a place like this...but sometimes you just want something ordinary, and need help finding it; if you want ordinary this is it.

  • Julie B.

The people are friendly, service has always been decent...the macaroni and cheese is booommmmmb. And how do you beat $5 burger-rama on Wednesday's??? Sure there's gonna be a crowd on burger-rama night but what else would you expect?!

this spot has awesome food happy hour deals (and $1 off drafts too) TWO TIMES per day (3-6pm and 10pm-1am). we came around 9:30 and ordered some drinks. they have a nice selection of beers on tap, mostly local ones; we all liked what we got. they also let you upgrade to an imperial pint (20 oz instead of 16) for only 50 cents more! after 10, we got a bunch of food from the pretty big happy hour menu. people ordered sliders (3 for 4.50) and nachos (4.95). the nachos were huge and piled high with cheese, salsa, sour cream, black beans, green onions, and guacamole -- deal. i think my friends who just moved in around the corner will become [happy hour] regulars at this spot.

Great beer list, and cocktails looked quality and interesting as well (though I didn't try any). We just needed food/wanted a drink before seeing a show at the Harvard Exit next door, though I found it extremely annoying that out of 6 entree salads only two were vegetarian, and those two were the classic boring mixed greens withing nothing special and the cesar. They had two chicken salads, one steak and one with bacon. Really? This is Seattle and while I know they serve burgers here, they had veggie options throughout the rest of the menu. It didn't feel like an only meat type of place when walking in. And while I've had to order the grilled chicken without the chicken many times before, I am keenly aware that I'm still paying the whole price for the salad with the most expensive component removed. So at least just have one decent vegetarian salad on your menu with an interesting addition of vegetable, fruit, nut and/or cheese so a vegetarian can enjoy a salad worth paying for. Not much to ask!

This is honestly one of my favorite places on Cap Hill. I'm there at least 4 times a week, either to eat or just hang out and play pool. Perfect atmosphere, amazing food, great service, decently priced... I can't think of anything bad about this place. I definitely recommend going on Wednesday nights for "Burgerama", just make sure you get there early...

Deluxe is the kind of place you go to when you have a large group (actual seating! On Capitol Hill! On a Friday!) or when you have people with pretty diverse tastes (I like breakfast, my lover likes lunch. Easy to split the difference there.) Also a good place to take the family from out of town. The menu is big and almost everything is pretty good (the steak salad is always worth it and the Monte Cristo is the platonic ideal of a Monte Cristo). The drinks are tasty but rather decorative -- won't really get you buzzed. Service is only OK, but the atmosphere is cozy, luxurious, clean and spacious, and it's nice to tuck inside when it's raining.

Everyone was right, Wednesdays this is the place to be. And worth the wait. The $5 deal on Wed. draws a huge crowd. You get a burger for $5 is you get a drink and alcohol counts as a drink! I had the Seattle bean martini and loved it. Think a mudslide without the milk. A perfect for people who like their coffee black and sweet. The burgers are by far some of the best I've ever had in my life. Done thin style and topped with all sorts of goodies. They compare with those of the Red Mill. Delicious. And while you are waiting there is a great little place across the street to grab a cheap drink.

Simply awful. I had 'breakfast' at the deluxe this morning. After realizing they don't open until 11:00 these days, I wandered in and was seated. The overly loud house music was actually competing for whatever was going on in the back, and it sounded like someone was watching jerry springer very loudly. I hunted around on the menu for breakfast because they used to have a large daily breakfast menu, it was early, and I was hungry. I ended up having the waiter point out a standard breakfast tucked away in a corner of the menu. Three eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast. Fine, that's what I wanted. I asked to sub sausage for the bacon. he said no. HE SAID NO. He then went on to tell me that they only have sausage on the weekend. WTF? "Okay that seems a bit odd to me" I said, also remarking that they had cut their entire menu by half. After far too long (I was only one of four people in the restaurant) my food came. The eggs were very undercooked (for overeasy even), the hashbrowns were ice cold, and the bacon forced upon me was a shade shy of burnt. It was frankly inedible. I quietly called over the manager, pointed it out, and was comped, I tipped my waiter the balance. If your cooks can't even manage to turn out a simple breakfast with four customers seated....there's not much hope for something more complicated on the menu. Such a shame.

oh, the deluxe. how i have mixed feelings and yet always end up coming back to you. limited menu during happy hour (10:30-2:30, i believe?): lose. happy hour appetizer specials: win. weird-tasting fish: lose. taking back bad fish without being bitchy: win. jacket potatoes: win. price: lose.

They have some of the best burgers in town -- and if you go on Wednesday they're something like five bucks (on special). They also have excellent steak fries and a very good bar. They make a good martini or, if you prefer sweeter drink, their mai tai is fantastic. I really like the environment; it's well-designed without being either pretentious or uncomfortable. It's one of the few places in Seattle that I'll go alone, with a friend or with a group. And when you're done eating, it's a great place to play a couple games of pool.

If you like dry as dirt fried chicken, then by all means go to the Deluxe Bar & Grill and try their fried chicken. I don't believe I've had chicken this dry before? It honestly tasted as if it was cooked earlier in the day, left sitting out on the counter, and then heated up in the microwave before serving it to me. I had to drink a full glass of water to finish only a quarter of the chicken. Needless to say I did not finish the rest of the chicken. I guess I will just stick to their burgers which are pretty good.

Deluxe, what has happened to you?! No sausage on weekdays? Breakfast options start and stop at hash browns and eggs? Has the sticker shock of inflationary rent over 80-something years finally gotten to you? You used to be our go-to spot for greasy American hang over brunch but now? So far have the might fallen.

Good food. Reasonable prices (maybe a touch high). Attentive staff. Good happy hour. I've been coming here for years and have yet to have a bad experience. Plus, every Wednesday is Burger-Rama! Any burger on the menu, excluding the half-pound monsters, $4.99 with the purchase of ANY beverage (it's one of the few places that serves R.C. Cola- this scores BIG points with me) and served with the best fries on the Hill (next to Frites, of course)!

I wanted a good burger while in Seattle and happened upon this place baesd on reviews on yelp. Although the menu was a bit short, almost everything sounded good. I decided to go with the Diable Crab Cake burger. This was awesome. The crab cake was great and the diablo mustard was tasty not only with the burger, but the fries as well. The burgers were good too. Best of all, the portions were good and they had a full bar. Great atmosphere and staff, one of the better casual restaurants. It looks like a good place to hang out too since there was a pool table in the back.

GOD EFFING DAMN! The burgers here are amazing (I get the veggie version, but DAMN!!!); may I suggest the blue cheese? Get it with perfectly crisp and starchy fries, or a unique, crisp and slightly sweet side salad piled high with tomatoes and some sort of cranberries or nuts. The macaroni and cheese that belonged to another table here was gawked at by my friends and I for at least 5 minutes, and between the look of it and the girl's face, I'd stake my life that it was damn good. On the subject of the baked potatoes; they are amazing. Try the spinach and mushroom with melted cheese and a side salad and you'll have enough to take home. The waitstaff here is awesome, they get busy so give them a break. The food is DAMN good, and if you go on Wednesdays ALL burgers are 4.00 with purchase of a drink. DAMN! DAMN! DAMN!!!

Yum Yum. I like this place a lot - my only complaint is the decor. It kind of looks like it used to be a Ruby Tuesday's or Applebee's. Outside of that nitpicky detail, this place is pretty cool. They have late night happy hour with drink and food specials. Weds is burger night with something like half price, I think. They're pretty famous for their burgers. They make really nice bloody marys, too.

Wanted some brunch this weekend, all sources said this place served that type of fare till 3. Walked in a little after 2:45, waited at the front to be seated as the sign instructed. There were at least 3 servers, maybe more, plus a bartender. but we waited at the front for about 3-4 minutes. As we were waiting at the front, one of the servers asks the other 'is it 3 yet?' Finally someone seated us & walked off. Out of the 4 or so menus left on our table, none were for breakfast so when the server came back & I asked about breakfast, he said we couldn't order it anymore. Ended up leaving & once I got outside & looked at my watch, it was still before 3pm. Awesome. I live right around the corner but don't think I'll be coming back after this shitty experience. It was pretty obvious they were just stalling to avoid letting us order breakfast, although why it really matters is beyond me. It would've taken less time if they just seated us right away & let us order rather than spending 5+ minutes bullshitting.

I've been in the Deluxe many times, overall very cozy warm space, quick consistent service and diverse clientele. The food is regular pub food, burgers, meatloaf, fish and chips, that kind of stuff. Breakfast is good because it's fast and cheap and done exactly right, eggs hash browns and such. The bartenders are always working fast and furiously. I did make the mistake of going in there Wednesday night before Thanksgiving. My mistake, I thought everyone would be out doing last minute grocery shopping. We came in right before it got packed, the hostess crossed our name off by mistake, and when we did get a table it was in the line of all of the servers walking back and forth. My dinner companion was starving and she ran next door to wolf down some sushi while we waited. She came back with the sushi just after her order had arrived. An older, slightly chunky swooped down on us and practically yelled MAAM you can't eat that in here! This would have been reasonable had we not ordered any food, but our table was covered with a plate of calimari, which was wooefully undercooked, meatloaf with all of the trimmings and a crabcake sandwich. I was embarrassed and apologized to my friend. I wonder why she felt she had the right to treat us that way? Would she have treated a pair of white men the same way? I don't know if I will go in there again, no one wants to be treated like that. She could have at least, come over and spoke to us quietly and nicely. She was just a real butthead.

I wholeheartly agree with the reviewers below when they speak to the burgers and the quality of the pool tables. These are the best pool tables on Capitol Hill (and yes, I am taking The Garage into account). They are arguably the best pool tables in the city as well. I know some of the employees and know that they maintain them (looking them over for damage, brushing the felt, covering them to ward dustbunnies) every night in their closing process, and are very responsible about replacing the felt every X months. I'm also amazed that they take ownership of the quality of their cues, too - replacing cues with broken or worn tips, and providing decent chalk. To boot, their rates are very reasonable (tournament tables, rates run by the hour). On most weeknights (except Wednesday and Friday) they are often open without a wait, which is a nice change from all other choices in the area.

Maybe it was the day (night actually), time, or my mood that affected how I felt about this establishment, but it's just average. Ordinary. Boring. Things seem to be done in such a half-assed manner that it's actually somewhat painful to experience. Service, both times, has been pretty shitty overall. I asked for diet coke with lemon and the waitress forgot the lemon. When she asked me if I wanted a refill, I stated again I wanted a wedge of lemon with my diet coke, perhaps with a bit more emphasis on the lemon this second time around. Did I get a lemon with my soda? You tell me. I got the mac and cheese with added bacon and ham, which was quite delicious...didn't finish and actually brought the rest of it home. The chicken fried steak was tasty, minus the unseasoned vegetables. Why anyone would ever choose to serve bland vegetables is beyond me. I would probably go again for $2 burgers after 11 PM.

tasty tasty tasty cocktails and has the yum mac and cheese (in both appetizer size and full on dinner size.) also, they have freaking fantastic french fries and i have love for their sandwiches. i can't think of any cons at the moment, though, at times the wait staff can be a bit slow. that part has been hit or miss..

Four stars for this busy and long-standing Cap Hill bar and grill. Excellent service, hot and tasty food with wide variety of menu and specialty bar items. Also features a kids menu for $3.95. Pool room for 21 and over. Weekend brunch is supposed to be tasty too. Good choice.

Cool bar / billiard spot in Capitol Hill! The atmosphere is very chill and casual. The menu consists of amazing food. Please consider truffle burger and chicken wings. The fries are extra $2 on your check, but they are crunchier and more delicious than McDonald's French fries, right? The truffle burger is just juicy. Plus, the chicken wings have the Asian touches in them. You can definitely tell the ginger sauce, which is something I would have in my home-made chicken wings. You have the choices of whether sitting at the bar (with a valid ID) or hanging out at the dining area (if you want to get away from the bar). There's also the billiard room, which charges you per hour if you decide to play some pool. The service at the bar was acceptable. I glanced over some reviews, and I noticed some complaints about some servers not coming back to check on the customers but only would approach if they were waved down. I guess I was lucky because I came in at 4 pm on a Thursday, when everyone was still getting off of work. The place was pretty chill, so the servers had the time to walk around and offered better service. The atmosphere would definitely change on a weekend .... I can only imagine. Woohoo! Parking around this area is 4 hours free, so you're having enough time to eat and to chill at the restaurant! You should come to this bar and enjoy some good food on the menu. I'll come back soon!

Burger was delicious. The bun was soft and sweet. Plenty of choices. The patty was cooked to order. The fries were really tasty. If you are looking for a good burger and cheap beer, this is the place. No frills; just right. The staff was amazingly friendly.

I rarely enjoy hamburgers. I mean let's be real. Hamburgers are basic bitch fare. I had the truffle mushroom and Swiss burger. Dear god! It was so good. The mushrooms were grilled to perfection. The greens on the burger were so fresh. I'm used to eating wilted lettuce on a burger. you take something so basic and make it so unique! Brava.

What is wrong with the fries? We came for lunch on a weekday. The service was good, the prices are good, but the entire table agreed - there was something wrong with the fries... I've never had fries like this before, there was literally no potato left inside the oily crunchy shell that they had turned each fry into. Even limp mushy fries would've been tolerable, but this was a new level of terrible. They managed to mess up fries so badly that I could not eat them. I have never sent food back before and I actually had to ask the waitress for another order of fries because these were inedible... the next batch that came out was slightly better but still really bad.

One word. Burger-rama. Oh yeah. This place is an establishment that has been around quite some time and it's pretty awesome. Food prices are fairly inexpensive and overall it's pretty tasty. You don't come in here looking for some gourmet meal...it's all about the awesome beers on tap, friendly staff, outdoor seating, and the Wednesday Burger-rama. What's that you ask? Basically it's any burger on the menu for cheap....AND vs. paying extra on other days of the week...your salad or fries are free. Just make sure you order a drink. For a cheeseburger with all the fixins and special sauce...not to mention a good sized salad and a pint...with taxes it only hit me at $12. The beer was as much as my burger. Overall you can't beat a burger for $5. It will not be the best burger you ate in your entire life, but needless to say they are indeed good. I shall return!

A pitcher of beer and three hangover burgers please! Not that the three of us were hungover. However, I think we earned that beer AND those burgers after a 7+ mile hike. The hangover burger comes with bacon, cheese, a fried egg, and "special sauce." My honey asked for his burger sans fried egg and we were able to get onion rings instead of fries for no extra charge. They seem pretty flexible like that. Beer and food was good. Service was friendly.

The spousal unit and heiress apparent ran a 15K race Sunday morning and were in dire need of post race fuel. Enter, the DeLuxe! It was Sunday and they serve brunch until 3. My wife had a Cobb salad and the daughter a breakfast burrito that was huge, Me? I had a short stack of pancakes that had just a hint of lemon. Very tasty. This is a Cheers sort of place, as others have noted. It's been in biz for 50+ years. 5 star? Nope. But my 4 speaks to the fact it is a comfortable place that has no pretentiousness. Just good, solid food in a neighborhood pub environment.

  • Alice C.

The drinks and food is solid. However, my last trip, I paid $37 for dinner and drinks, including tip. Upon checking my bank statement this morning, I noticed that the closed out statement from DeLuxe to my bank was for $42 and change, meaning the bartender gave himself an extra $5 tip on top of what I signed off for. I'm all for tipping well, but this isn't cool. If you do come here, pay cash.

So far this year we have lost a number of Broadway institutions, Harvard Exit theater, Charlie's and Red Light vintage clothing. Its comforting for a long time Capital Hill resident to know Deluxe Bar & Grill has been here for 50 years and will be here tomorrow. I find the service to be consistently top notch. Unlike some other places (talking to you Linda D) they don't just hire "haircuts" they hire talent. While the food wont win any James Beard awards, its consistently excellent, comfort food. The menu changes enough to keep it fun and worth checking back from time to time. I especially like it on cold, rainy winter days with the fire going and the warm wood paneling. But also on sunny days with the doors open and a fresh breeze coming in. One note, the beer could be colder. Thanks Deluxe, for hanging in there!

DeLuxe, nothing fancy here, a small outdoor seating area with a pretty standard brunch menu. I am still adjusting from NYC to Seattle but the pricing is pretty sweet for drinks. It may be because I'm oblivious but I was super pleased about how affordable everything was compared to what I am used to. All the brunch items come with fruit so you can have a"balanced" meal and the portion sizes were great. It's nothing fancy but I like it that way.

Food is consistently good. Staff is friendly. Generally speaking patrons at the bar are talkative, but not intrusive if I'm busy reading. (The one that was intrusive was a good times to talk to...so that works) One of my go to spots on Broadway. The steak salad is delicious. Weekend breakfast was sort of a miss but still perfectly decent.

On that night, it felt like college vacation, with sad and alone youth on their off-brand lap tops, but actually staring at the Hawks game. The burgers arrive open-faced allowing the juices from the meat to saturate any hopes of bun and ingredient autonomy. Toasting the bun more and maybe presenting the meal inverted-open-faced would keep things behaving like a burger and not baby food. Baby food can taste good and the door handle to exit the building has a nice feel as it rolls off my fingers.

Good atmosphere and service, but the food is underwhelming. We had spicy chicken strips, sweet potato fries, French dip, and a small Caesar. The Caesar was pretty good for a standard salad. Sweet potato fries had great texture and flavor but lacked any sort of seasoning. The French dip meat was decent, the bread felt like it was older than it was fresh. Definitely a 2 star sandwich. The spicy chicken strips were almost inedible. The chicken was dense and tasted like it was frost burnt. Not pleasurable at all. This was a near 0 star entree.

Server was excellent, the salad was delightfully large, as were the burgers my companions had. The fries were great as well. Props for also having gluten-free burgers. With large windows, wooden furnishings and jazz playing in the background, it set wonderful tone for our dinner. Would recommend.

Firstly... I wanted to go to Poppy but it didn't open for 1/2 hour and my companion had time constraints: otherwise I'm pretty certain I wouldn't have darkened the door in my lifetime... I don't eat meat nor do I feel a bar and grill is the place to order a good salad; so a grilled cheese seemed "safe" and is my favorite winter sandwich. It's sooo EASY to make - and I figured, who can mess that up, right?? It speaks volumes that this was the absolute worst grilled cheese I've ever had in my life. Did they put some bread in a toaster for 60 seconds & put a couple slices of cheese between them (resulting in a barely melted/hardly grilled and very unappetizing appearance)? I don't know about you - but I butter the bread before I grill it and it's golden brown with melted cheese and perhaps some fresh tomato. The fries were not good either... Half a grilled cheese and 5 bad fries for $8... I should have followed my first instinct and sent it back on appearance alone. Service was slow, inattentive and mediocre at best. I ordered a water back with each of the two cocktails I had and no dice - so I had to ask again.. Twice.. No smile, no sorry - nothing... I understand if you're slammed but there were 5 people at the bar including my companion and her sad dry burger that I couldn't help but notice looked just like a McDonald's cheeseburger except with sesame seeds.. Even the guy sitting next to us was extremely rude and annoying. Summary: I won't ever be back.

So per usual, I was craving a potato and a root beer on draft (I have very specific cravings...) so I got the hubby to head to Capitol Hill with me by enticing him with their Burgerama night - only to find out, they no longer do ANY potatoes when they used to do huge bakers, and they no longer have root beer on draft. We both did Burgerama instead, which is more expensive than it used to be, and the quality was not as good. I don't know if it's the same owners that have this place, but I feel like each time I've made a point to come here it's declined in quality which is a shame, and now they don't even have the items I want on the menu anymore :( I'm sad to say I have to remove this place from one of my go-to places when having specific cravings :(

One word describes the food, service and atmosphere of the De Luxe; outstanding!! They never disappoint no matter the time of day! And that's no easy task in this town. Much thanks to the staff and management of this established and well tended place to dine.

Every time that I've been here I've had a great experience. The Bloody Mary mix is house made and amazing. Go when Corey is working he's the best bar tender that they have!!!!!

Slow but friendly service, Food was pretty good but nothing spectacular to write home about. They have a couple pool tables in the back so we grabbed a table and started playing. Personally, they were a little too close together for my preference, but that's okay since it's just two tables. We weren't super hungry, but wanted something to munch on so we ordered the onion rings and the kale, both were good. The beers we ordered were good, decent selections. I didn't try the drinks, so i can't comment there.

Came on a Saturday night and the place was surprisingly NOT crowded so we were seated immediately. Our waiter was attentive - however, we did have to change seating as the booth we were placed in was TINY! In any case, they had something for everyone in our group - burgers, fancy salads, pancakes and yummy cocktails. The usual suspects who came in that night were total dicks - one guy was blocking the walkway up the bar and completely ignored me when I "asked" to pass politely, but when I put my hand on his shoulder and sqeezed past, I get "bitch" out of his mouth and into my ear. Good thing I'm on my best behavior in the PNW, honey! Looks like a hip spot to dine and perhaps party from time to time - I'll be back.

Second time there, got the cheeseburger both times. One of the best burgers in town. Prices are decent, service is good, the fresh cut fries ate amazing.

we came for a late night beverage. cold beverage and greasy fries. not sure a person needs anything else. basic and standard...you're not paying for flair here. it was a bit on the quiet side, but i think we were close to curfew and most of the good children were tucked away in already. i am intrigued by burgerama. i'm pretty sure i need to give that a go. whg doesn't love a burger for $5? p.s. i got carded.

I like the location of this spot, and the servers were very nice (although pretty much kept to themselves during our visit). The food was...food. I came here for brunch on Sunday and had the American breakfast; the eggs were kind of warm (although admittedly cooked properly), the sausage was cold, and the toast was very barely toasted. The potatoes were good though. I was thinking it might be difficult to mess up basic breakfast foods, so I guess I'm a bit disappointed. Maybe I'd come back during Burger night or just for a beer. Seems a really cute place, so I'm hoping I'll have a better experience next time.

Went here with some Amazonians. The food selection "seemed" impressive. I ordered the crispy garlic chicken. The chicken wasn't crispy at all and the meat was not tender. It was a bit chewy. Good thing they gave me lots of thousand island to drown my dry chicken meat in. The salad was fresh and tasty, but nothing to cry home to momma about. The baked potato was THE BEST I've ever had. It's uber loaded and melts in your mouth. I'll definitely be back for the baked potato. I'll give this place a second try since I didn't get to try any of their drinks or beers. Customer service was good. We could've used the extra love every now and then. See you soon DeLuxe. :)

This is a review for takeout. We did a office order out for lunch and I was very VERY underwhelmed with what I recieved. The order: A French Dip with grilled onions added, swap cheddar for swiss. Caesar salad as a side. What I got: A (cold) French Dip, no grilled onions, with swiss cheese, fries, and a side garden salad with caesar dressing. Not only that, but my order was not carefully packaged and the au jus leaked all over the bag and sogged out the takeout box. The meat that was on the French Dip was really good, but would have been better if it was as I had ordered it. The au jus had no real flavor. The side salad was really sad since it wasn't actually a caesar and the dressing kind of tasted like tartar sauce. I will not order takeout from here again. It was very expensive, much too expensive for the wrong order I recieved. I woulda been mad if I had paid for it myself.

How I heard of this place: My friend David suggested it as a late-night spot for good burgers and happy hour after an Ayyam-i-Ha celebration in South Seattle. A venue that serves burgers until one o'clock in the morning already deserves at least one thumbs up! Type of cuisine: "The menu also features a great compliment of appetizers, sandwiches, salads, entrees and daily specials. Prices are moderate, everything is fresh, and the staff genuinely cares about our guests' experience. The bar has over 19 taps with both European and local brews rotating in seasonally. Our wine list is not pretentious and emphasizes value and big flavors. Cocktails range from old school to modern and the back bar spirits selection is well rounded." Ambiance: A pub when you enter, the large space opens up onto a bar, as well as booth seating around the establishment. Small nooks allow for for intimate dining spaces, where patrons enjoy music from the 1980s and pub grub. Young professionals fill the space, enjoying happy hour food and drinks, some singing along to the music, and others engaging in more subdued conversation. "The DeLuxe started life as a tavern at the close of Prohibition. In the late 1950′s a small grill was added in the back, which became famous for pumping out mammoth baked potatoes (think size 11 men's shoes) and cheap steak dinners to go along with an ever expanding beer selection. In the early 60′s, Joe Rogel and Bernie Minsk bought the place and embarked on a course of gradual change which included expanding the restaurant and the menu, and adding hard liquor (remember the kamikazi craze?). Then in 1999, Joe's son, Barry, bought the place and expanded it and the food and bar menus yet again. Through all these changes, the DeLuxe has remained true to its history and is the quintessential neighborhood bar and grill." What I ordered: Having 27 of us at DeLuxe, I had to find a way to limit the items of food I had to memorize in order to write this note. I have chosen to highlight only those orders placed by the five of us at our small table. My friend and I opted to share the happy hour Black Bean Nachos ($4.75) with crisp tri-color tortilla chips, spicy black beans, cheddar and pepper jack cheese, tomato, green onion, sour cream & guacamole with salsa on the side. We thought we would need more food, and also shared the Papperdum Chicken Strips ($4), chicken breast tenders breaded with crispy Indian lentil crackers, served with "Buffalo" style with Bleu Cheese dressing. The dining companion seated to my right ordered the BOA burger ($9.50; subtract $2 for a weekend late-night burger), peppered bacon, red onion, avocado, Swiss cheese, green leaf & sliced tomato. Seated in front of us, we had one vegetarian, who ordered the Gardenburger ($8.95), vegan patty, fresh spinach, Swiss cheese, sliced tomato, grilled onion, chipotle mayo. The fifth at our table ordered a non-alcoholic Clausthaler Golden Amber ($4) to start, followed by a happy hour order of crunchy onion rings ($4.50) served with a chipotle dipping sauce. For his main entree, he selected the Kobe Stuffed Burger ($11.25), hand formed half-pound of American raised Kobe beef, stuffed with caramelized onions and sharp white cheddar cheese, served with pepper bacon remoulade, green leaf, and tomato. What I loved: I sampled the nachos, onion rings, fries (which accompanied each burger) and chicken strips. I loved the Indian lentil cracker coating on the chicken strips (though the meat was slightly dry). The onion rings were crispy and light and the dipping sauce spicy and smoky. I loved the nachos, topped with an abundance of cheese and other toppings, the fresh, chunky guacamole adding the perfect creamy texture to the crunchy chips and pico de gallo. Why I loved it: It is always nice to find a place that has a late-night food menu, especially when you can add in happy hour prices. The location is convenient (on the north end of Capital Hill), where parking is more readily available. The staff very friendly and accommodating. The food hit the spot and the friends added to the experience! Cost: Low to average ($1.75-$4.75 per happy hour menu item; $8.95-$11.50 per burger)

I believe that service is the the most important thing when eating out and can make or break a dining experience. Our server at DeLuxe went above and beyond for us. We had spent the last 4 hours at a beer festival and desperately needed food. The host sat us and my friend immediately requested "a mac and cheese asap." Our host was kinda caught off guard, but to our surprise our server came over a minute later and told us our mac and cheese is coming right up! The food was good, the service was excellent, and this is how you get return customers.

This place won't blow your mind but it is decent bar food with a great beer selection and friendly staff. Cozy, "cheers" type atmosphere. Go on Wednesdays for Burger-Rama nights where their burgers are half off- then you won't be disappointed! Great creative selection of burgers served on a brioche style bun. Good place for a grease fix, not great on healthy selections since their salads are sub par.

Being located on Capitol hill must have really gone to these guys heads. The price of the food is outrageous for what it is, and I'd sooner brown bag a can Steel Reserve in an alley before paying what they charge for a drink or beer here. I went with a friend, and we took a look at the menu and said screw it. We did order one beer each, then got the hell out of there. Maybe a business executive would like to write off a meal for meeting or business purposes here. I'm just writing them off completely. If you'd like to experience the true Seattle beer-snobbery, this place can provide that.

Atmospher is a typical pub decor. Wait staff will barely crack a smile and never check to see if the food is ok. Completely overpriced menu. I ordered chicken and waffles but instead I got a tiny waffle with 3 over cooked greasy chicken strips that I wouldn't serve to my dog. And yes the price for that with a glass of cranberry juice was an insulting $17. Overall a horrible experience.

Stop in for Burgerama on Wednesdays. This might be the best burger deal in Seattle. (Excluding Dick's of course!) I have always wanted to try the DeLuxe out. Based on it's history and facade I always expected to walk into an extremely divey bar with lingering cigarette smoke and surly patrons. I was surprised to walk into an extremely clean modern bar with a range of clientele! We spent our night playing pool so we just ordered at the bar. But all the servers and bartenders were friendly and helpful! This place is almost more of a restaurant since it was "Please Wait to be Seated" style. PS the pool tables are in good shape! We came in for Burgers on recommendation from a former co-worker. Burgerama happens to be a killer deal! You can get their 6oz burger and a side (Normally up to $9.50 plus $2 for a side) for $7!! I had the Big Blue Burger, medium rare with fries. I have never had a burger cooked to temperature so perfectly! Their chef has their timing down perfectly! The combination of Cambozola, Balsamic, Onions, Apple Butter, and Arugula was messy but oh so delicious! Seriously one of the best dressed burgers I've ever had. The bun was toasted to perfection. The burger itself wasn't spectacular but the whole package was fantastic. Their fries were nicely fried without being burnt. Just the perfect salty texture. The chicken nachos were a disappointment. Surprisingly small portion of mostly prepackaged stuff. I'd avoid them. Great burgers, friendly staff, and good pool! Also their website say's $1.50 Rainers but they are actually $3.

Great Thai Chicken wings... and that was it. Went here for lunch the day after Christmas, the bartender directed us to seating, but didn't relay this to the Server; And that's when the onslaught of poor costumer service began. Plagued by unattentiveness... we had to request: place settings, napkins for the messy wings, water (twice, but the first time fell on deaf ears)... despite a small amount of patrons. 1-star for the wings, 1-star for the general ambience (it was comfortable).

Deluxe is definitely one of my go-to spots. The burgers and fries are excellent here, and there's a solid selection of beers on tap that changes every week. However, the service is consistently terrible, which is why it gets the 3-star review. Whether it's customers who just walked in being seated before me, or waiting around forever for the check, there's always something that puts a damper on the experience. If you're patient and don't mind some probable frustrations, this place is wonderful. If you don't mind braving the crowds, go on Wednesdays when a burger and fries is only $6.99 with the purchase of a beer.

Our group of four went in for lunch Sunday. We were told the wait for a table would be 10 to 15 minutes..even though there were several tables open and a few more opening up. Once seated it took a little bit for the waiter to come greet us. Once he got to our table we were told he was going to take our food order first because the kitchen was getting ready to close down. The time was around two and brunch has the hours posted being served until 3:00 pm. On the said posted hours of dining it states that lunch is served everyday until 5:00 pm. We had only gotten brunch menus to order off of. As we sat eating our mediocre "lunch" we watched as they turned away potential customer after customer because of the kitchen closing, all before 3:00 pm.

Don't know what's going on here lately, but went on a dinner date here last Thursday and my date's meal was incredibly disappointing. 1) his burger came out so undercooked, the center was still cold and raw. 2) the waiter's initial response was 'that's how they're cooked', rather than leading with an apology. Really?!? They're normally served raw?? 3) the replacement burger came out rubbery. Meanwhile, my burger was perfect, so it's not like the cook doesn't know how to prepare them. I sure hope this isn't a trend. Either way, I can't see bringing a date here again. Crazy!

My Cheers bar. Super friendly staff, surprisingly great food, and an awesome rotating beer selection make this place hard to beat on the Hill. Burgers are what they are known for and are served on a delicious, soft brioche bun with creative and flavorful ingredients. Wednesdays are Burger-Rama so all burgers are only $7. Grab one and a beer for a cheap and delicious date night. My favorite time to visit is for weekend brunch. The DeLuxe breakfast includes all the standard fare (bacon or sausage, eggs, potatoes, and fruit) along with a healthy side of biscuits n gravy. Make sure to have their drip coffee. It's a proprietary blend from Fonte and is the best drip-brewed coffee I've ever had, anywhere. And I live in Seattle. Go to the DeLuxe but please don't take my seat!

As a local business I've tried to give Deluxe my business, and fully recognizing that it's not "fast food", I finally can't take the substandard service. I sat for nearly 20 minutes after ordering drinks without those being delivered while the server with the "ironic" facial hair chatted with other guests. My partner and I, being on a scheduled that allowed a longer lunch, finally had to walk out because we ran out of time. I rarely wish anyone to be fired, but if a server doesn't acknowledge his guests for that long, perhaps that is not the job for them.

These guys are the best. Last night, four of us showed up just before 1:00 am, starving and hoping they were still serving food. They said we had a minute to order, but also checked back with the kitchen to make sure it was okay with them--it's nice to know how considerate they are of each other. I love living across the street from this place. Service can be a little slow when busy, but always friendly and inviting. Good cocktails and beer selection, and you can't beat the Wednesday burger deal!

I used to go to deluxe years ago, pretty regularly they USED to make the best keylime pie martini I've ever had! And bomb baked potatoes! But tonight was not the deluxe I remember, no martini but still had a decent Cosmo. But that and three beers took 30 min to get on an extremely slow night that had the service staff shaking in their loafers. I guess the boys were scared they might have to spend time serving customers instead of waxing up their manicured mustaches. I'm done with this place, I was wondering why I hadn't been back in so long and I now remember why..... Service wasn't that good then either...... But I must say the food did come out fast. I must go now, I think I'm having a stroke from all the salt encrusting the burnt hand cut fries. Pray for me

A long running Cap Hill institution, The Deluxe is one of my favorite places. Friendly service, private type booths, large selections of spirits & tasty brown liqueur of the gods. The food recently has improved, beyond what is offered on similar diner type restaurants, for a better than average dining experience. Nice and sunny locale for brunch / lunch, and intimate for dinner. Highly recommend checking it out.

Met a friend here for breakfast on a recent Saturday. My expectations were pretty low having been here years prior for late night happy hour and recalling a somewhat divey pub atmosphere. Either my memory's deceiving me or they've received a little facelift. Expectations increased after walking in the door. We were seated right away in a giant booth in a far-off corner of the non-busy restaurant. Our orders were taken promptly and we were checked on often by our apathetic waitress. I ordered the veggie breakfast burrito (you can take the girl out of SoCal...) which came with roasted poblano peppers, grilled onion, tomato, mushroom, egg, guac, salsa and a tiny pebble to chip my tooth on. I was only two bites into my actually rather mediocre burrito when the stone was detected, so when our somewhat apologetic waitress offered to put in another order for me I said yes please but blueberry pancakes because they are soft (and indeed they were). Interestingly, when she returned to the table she said that the kitchen reported that sometimes there were rocks in the beans but that they try to remove them all before serving. (!!!!!) Is this not a problem your kitchen should better address?? Like by maybe buying and serving different beans??? These were not questions I asked out loud given my stunned and hungry state. I was a little surprised to find that though the burrito was taken off our bill the pancakes remained. I did not dispute the bill. I paid and me and my sore tooth walked quietly away from DeLuxe forever. For what it's worth, the blueberry pancakes were delicious, and my friend said his breakfast sausages were the best he'd ever had. But these things exist at places with better service who own up to their mistakes and don't try to excuse them, and I'd rather spend my time and money at those establishments.

The food is so-so much like a diner. The servers are friendly but are easily distracted, there were times where we waited 15 mins to have our orders taken. Drinks here are a hit and miss as well, sometimes they get it just right and other times I feel very flammable. They do a great burger, all the times I have went I have always gotten my burgers medium rare and they are always cooked to perfection.

My boyfriend and I saw the signs for the 50 year anniversary celebration featuring $1.99 burgers, $2.19 cheeseburgers, and $3 Widmer hefeweizens and Hale's pale ale and figured we had to try it! To drink, my boyfriend ordered the pale ale while I got the Widmer. Our waiter brought the drinks out quickly. The beers tasted... like something was not perfectly right with the keg. My boyfriend thought it was his beer and asked the waiter to make sure it was the right beer. The waiter offered to bring him a hef instead, which was very nice. However, that beer also didn't taste quite as good as usual, so it did seem like something was off with the keg or something. For our meal, my boyfriend had the anniversary cheeseburger while I had the blue cheese burger with a veggie patty. My boyfriend was accidentally brought a regular burger, but the waiter realized it right away and fixed it. In the end though, his burger was wayyy overcooked. My veggie patty was fine but nothing special; it tasted largely like rice, which seemed a bit weird for a burger. The blue cheese and onions on mine were really good, but the burger itself was nothing special. Overall, the food was fine (and for $2.19 for my boyfriend's burger, not bad at all!) but we wouldn't feel any need to go back, especially at regular prices.

The big bleu burger is hands down the best burger in capitol hill period. I dream about that burger even before i go there. They are the best burger joint in Capitol Hill period. And no, Dick's only counts when you're drunk and starving. But if you want a good burger, go to Deluxe.

Went last night (Saturday) for the 1st time to continue a wedding celebration with the bridal party and some friends. The male bartender was the worst bartender. He was irate we were there, snapped telling us we should have called in advance to let them know we had a big party. We had about 25 people. The place was dead, they were lucky to have our business. Took forever to get drinks and most of them weren't strong enough or tasted like crap. He also wouldn't let people open a tab. WTF? Never going back to this place. That bartender needs a business and customer service lesson.

This place served as a good place to chill while we waited for a movie at the Harvard Exit Theater around the corner. We went for an app and beers. I did notice a pretty extensive Scotch whisky selection, so that may be worth exploring next time. If you want to play some pool there are a couple of pool tables. Not sure I'd come here solely for this place on its own, but if I needed to kill some pre-movie time, you could find me here.

The DeLuxe Bar & Grill has all the makings of a great neighborhood bar, and so I want this place to be better, I want them to give me a reason to rate them at four or even five stars, but it's a bit of mixed bag. The service was great. Attentive and friendly, but not hovering. When we ordered the white IPA on tap, we first got a taster with it and another beer. It turns out that a lot of people were commenting that the IPA was too bitter, so they wanted to be sure we really wanted the IPA before bringing a full glass. The selection of beers was pretty good. Not the really stellar lineup that would bring in beer geeks from miles around, but good, credible and varied. The food was only OK overall. The sandwiches were nice and tasty. I'm not sure whether the low point was the french fries or the gumbo. The fires were skin on, which I prefer, but they were tiny potato shards that had to be eaten with a fork, rather than full-sized fries that would be big enough to pick up and dip. And with fries that small, how do they still turn out mushy? The gumbo smelled fishy. The rice looked like it had been stewing for a long, long time. It looked like yesterday's soup of the day. Or maybe the day before. Next time I come here I'm definitely going for the salad as my side dish.

Consistently good burger! I think Wed night is the way to go as the burger and fries are freshest due to the turnover and there is a price break. Have never gotten the one-fourth pound because they are cooked well done but the bigger burgers are made to order. Like the buns, like the toppings and have never really been disappointed. Good draft beer selection that changes frequently. Service can be hit or miss but it's a bar that serves burgers and I usually don't need much and am not usually looking for over and above service. They always check to see if you need another drink and they always make sure water glasses are filled.

Ordered takeout! I got the truffle burger and was surprised that I could actually taste truffle in there, most 'truffle' items on menu's skimp on it. I'll try to ask for extra truffle mayo next time, that stuff was delicious. Friendly staff and good food, all down the block from where I go to school. Yay!

A Capitol Hill classic, DeLuxe has some of the best bar food you can get in terms of variety, price and quality. This place also has the BEST french onion soup I've ever had and I wish they would make it more often. My recommendation if you don't know what to get is the barbecue chicken quesadillas, calamari and they also make a mean Cobb salad. Hell, it's all good and this place will pleasantly surprise you. Yeah, sometimes when things get busy (and they do because everyone loves DeLuxe,) service can be slow. Just chill and have a chat with one of the delightful charming bartenders and enjoy the cozy English pub vibe.

Whoa! This is one of those "I can't believe all these bad reviews..." reviews. I had a fantastic dinner with friends at DeLuxe last night and I'm still thinking about how amazing my BOA burger was. We shared a few ciders from their impressive menu of choices (they also have a TON of beer and some great and inventive cocktails) and had wings and fries and probably would've kept eating all night if the fireplace we were sitting next to didn't lull us practically to sleep by the end of dinner. The burgers (specifically the grass-fed variety) are DELICIOUS. Cooked to order, seasoned well, fresh, so good. The fries are good. The service has been totally wonderful every time I've been in; the people are always really nice and willing to chat or offer suggestions if you can't decide what to get. I used to come here, like many other extremely old people who live on the Hill, for $5 burger night when I was a broke 22-year-old. Now that I'm a medium-broke 34-year-old, I can come here on whatever night I want and order burgers without thinking twice about how I should really be waiting a few nights to get a deal. There are tons of places to get burgers in the city, most of which are really good (Lil' Woody's comes to mind), but the burgers here are amazing. I dream of BOA.

Very disappointing service last night......Server drops the food on our table with no question about if we needed anything else and didn't come back for 20 more minutes.....About 19 minutes too late......Embarrassing to bring friends to when you have personally recommended the place.....Going downhill with every year!

Disappointed more than usual..I say that because we try to keep giving the Deluxe chance after chance, but you cannot justify charging $8.50 for a regular burger ($2.00 more for fries) for a burger that was so small it seemed even the cook seemed embarrased by it because he came over asking if I was sure I didn't want lettuce or tomatoes on it. The bun was almost twice the size of the burger. Sorry..for that price for a HAMBURGER I expected more. This was our fourth bad experience in a row. It definitely will be our last. We'll be hitting other restaurants in the area for burgers that taste good and are equal in price..but far surpass your burger in size . Btw. . Charlie's Happy Hour burger was bigger than your so called 6oz. Burger.

Yup - it's a burger joint, with a lot of other food options. Probably best-known for the Wednesday Burger Night - their prices are a little on the high side any other time. They make decent drinks, although a bit pricey. Was a little disappointed with their beer-on-tap selection.

Come here only if there is a deal on a burger. That means Wednesdays. This place seems to be an institution and without much reason for it. They make burgers which they want $10+ dollars for when super dealtime is not in effect. The only place in town that I would pay that much for a burger now is Lunchbox Laboratory or maybe Blue Moon on occasion. These guys aren't at that level of game. My experience on my many unfortunate visits to this place include bitchy service, slow delivery on food, adequate bar service, and a bit of a distracting environment. This is one of those places that, if you're not there for Wednesday burgernight or happy hour, you'll look at your tab and think "well that totally wasn't worth it."

Man oh man was that the worst Mac N' Cheese I have ever had. Seriously, basic, cheap food bank Mac N' Cheese would probably have tasted much better. I usually eat everything on my plate regardless of how it tastes, but I stopped after three bites and pushed it aside. I used to come to the Deluxe every couple weeks specifically for their Mac N' Cheese because it was the best I ever had...they must have gotten Mr. Bean to take over as chef. The waitress was a careless, twitchy-fingered buzzkill as well. Really crappy experience. It is sad to see the Deluxe declining so badly

Here's the deal, I love to get cheap burgers at this place and the staff is nice & no nonsense, however the regular menu is over priced for sure. I recommend going at happy hour, which is good! I'm so gullible. I always get roped into these things. I see a sign about a super deal and booze and I'm hooked. Bland, dry burgers and greasy fries for $5? Pfft. Whatever. I'd rather pay more for *good* food.

Went in for brunch last Sunday afternoon. It wasn't all that busy and my friend and I were left sitting for over 10 minutes without being acknowledged at all. Staff seemed way more interested in chatting at the bar with each other so my friend and I just left without ever getting even a chance to order. Suck I loved the delux not sure why the service has gone downhill so bad.

Great selection of beers and mixed drinks. The food to is pretty tasty as well. A 15 minutes walk from home makes this place a winner for me. I really like meeting up with my friends here.

Oh, Deluxe. What we've been through together. I think we met in 1989, and it was bittersweet even then. You had 'Ha Ha Hours' your clever take on the happy hour, and it was grand. I was someone who liked to drink and eat your fried delicious food, you needed snarky customers to flirt with your revolving - but usually well above average attractive- waitstaff. It was a match made in heaven. Then things changed. Look, I know I changed, and hell, I even moved away, but I came back to you and you rewarded me with a Monte Cristo Sandwich, which, while good, still can't beat Charlie's. You still have happy hour, you still have attractive staff, but it's true, once my five star beacon of hope on the end of the crazy walk of Broadway, you, like your street have grown up a little. And so have I, but I'll never quit you completely, baby.

We eat here often. The food it pretty good. Issues with service, which needs better training. In nutshell, the food is better and more consistent than the service, and far less likely to cause harm.

After moving to the neighborhood, this place always caught our eye, but it seemed pretty generic. I was really impressed though. Came for lunch one weekend and had an awesome burger. The Philly was a little dry, but the au jus made it just right. Good place to bring picky-eater guests :)

I had the crab cakes, which came out looking burnt and misshapen. It was almost inedible. We shared the pulled pork sliders which were garnished with some of the most sour coleslaw ever. The food was just.... not good. I don't even know what else to say about it! Lost for words. The only reason this place didn't get only one star is because I liked the atmosphere. It had an appealing hip, retro feel. One disclaimer for this review is that I went a few months ago. They may have improved since then, but my impression didn't leave me with the desire to go back and find out.

Yes, I am a fan! Stopped in the other night and had an awesome server Eli. What a great personality! You should request him, I think it would be worth even a wait. So! we caught Happy Hour and were a little slow on deciding on our beer, he was patient and brought us a sample which was nice. He also suggested the Big Bleu chicken burger. It was so freaking good! I will definitely be going back soon for that one, I highly suggest it. It is great as a burger as well. Gotta love the option of having local "grass fed" beef. They have great salads, and their dressings are super good and those crunchy crutons really make it! I have been dining at DeLux for about 10 years, and it's only gotten better! Stop in have lunch or dinner and even shoot some pool. Happy Hour's are 3-6 & 10-1am If you have not been in yet, check it out and yelp for yourself.

Deluxe serves up the good bar grub! Well, its a bit better than your average bar fare. Had the American Kobe beef burger which is pretty good. Probably the most outrageously tasty Happy Hour treat is the fried mac and cheese balls which are sooo wrong and yet so irresistable! At $2.75 per order its pretty easy on the wallet. Pulled pork sliders were decent although didn't hold a candle to the fried balls of goodness. The atmosphere is very comfy and inviting and the service has always been fantastic. It is also located in that cute location on Broadway and Roy that has a nexus of other cool little place to hit up (Roy Street coffee and tea, Harvard Exit theater). The grill stays open pretty late (1am) so you can catch some late night eats up on the Hill!

Just the worst. Took 10 minutes to get any attention, and it was slow. Waiter was on a different planet. Brought wrong food and asked if we wanted the kitchen to make what we ordered. Food was gross. Soggy fries that were an extra 2 bucks on top of a 9 dollar burger. Just The Worst

I've had a history of bad customer service experiences at this place and I keep going back to give it another shot, but I think I'm actually done this time. Last time I went, my friends and I had one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. It started off when my very shy, very polite friend was the first to speak up when placing an order and the waitress scolded him that ladies should order first. It was supposed to be a joke, I think? It just came off rude and condescending and it really embarrased my friend. So two friends order mac and cheese without bacon. One friend is Jewish and doesn't eat pork, and the other just didn't want any. And then three of us got burgers. One of my friends got the completely wrong burger and asked to get the correct one, and the waitress was pretty huffy about having to go back and fix it. Both my friends who ordered mac and cheese with no bacon had bacon in their mac and cheese. They both politely decided to eat around it and not tell the waitress because of how she reacted to the other wrong order. Then she came back with the right burger, but it seemed that it was missing guacamole, and she once again was outright snappy about having to fix it. She came back with some guacamole, and asked if my friend had looked under the hamburger patty for the guacamole. She did, and it was there. But who puts guacamole in the bottom of a burger? So then we ate and the food was okay, not great. Certainly not worth dealing with the terrible service over. The waitress took our plates and noticed a pile of bacon on the bowls, and asked kind of snottily if they weren't fans of bacon. Um, no obviously they're not, since they ASKED not to have bacon on their mac and cheese! The whole time we were there, we were sort of shamed or made to feel inconvenient for one reason or another by this lady. At the end of the night I wish I'd headed over to Rancho Bravo or something where the food is good, cheap, and the people are nice. I'm just not going back to a place with consistently bad service and only mediocre food.

Just an FYI: the 50th anniversary deal for burgers is still going on, $2.99 for a burger and $3.19 for a cheeseburger. No more draft specials.

I've been meaning to check this place out and tonight I finally did. I was pretty disappointed. The service was really slow even though it wasn't very busy. I saw many workers just standing around or cleaning up small stuff. The food was mediocre. I had the Green Goddess with grass-fed beef and extra avocado. The beef was good but the arugula overpowered everything. I didn't taste the avocado at all. Not to mention they forgot to give me the avocado when they first served it to me. The potato leeks soup was so thick, I'm not sure you can call it soup. My first arnold palmer was good but the second one lacked ice and I didn't see any lemonade in it. Kind of hard to mess up an arnold palmer. The server seemed very distracted and more concerned with the couple in front of me. Took forever to get my check. No one asked if I needed anything even though I was obviously waiting for my check for at least 10+ minutes.

I've had food here for years and it seems to have gone down in quality and service. Every since their anniversary, the menu has sort of deteriorated. The mac and cheese is good and the hamburgers are fine. The fish and chips are mediocre and have always been a little more oily than I like. There is a gal that waits in the afternoons who give stellar service, but they don't seem to be able to handle a crowd very well. If the place is full, you can wait awhile for food and the staff becomes inattentive. We recently waited an hour for food and had to have it boxed up because we all needed to get back to work. It's still the same old place, but they could pump it up a bit with service and the menu to bring it up a star.

I hate the DeLuxe and I am amazed that more people don't. I don't think I've ever had a good experience the half dozen times that I've gone, and so you know what? I'm finally putting my foot down and never returning. First complaint? Drinks. The cocktails are so weak - might as well order a juice. They also have root beer on tap, which I usually enjoy, but it tastes so wrong here. It's like someone took a sprite, added hard root beer candies and sugar, shook it around, left it out for a week and called it root beer. Purely offensive. Second complaint? Food. Their food is awful and overpriced. Salty, flavorless, crap. On my last visit, my onion rings smelled like a wet dog. Third complaint? Upcharges. They charge extra for everything, but don't care to warn you. For instance, if you order a side of ranch to go with your burger and fries instead of their gross complimentary aioli, they charge you an extra 60cents. Who charges extra for a condiment?! Bad food, weak drinks.. why bother?

Is there an option to put zero stars?? Had multiple bad experiences here. One resent event tipped the pot and I will never go to this place again and I must warn people. My bf and I went on Steakarama. The server brought my dinner and a side of fries for my bf explaining that his steak was cooked wrong and here are some fries to munch on. 20 mins later they brought his steak on a f'ing saucer plate! Come on guys you can't afford to bring a full meal to the table?!!

We were seated quickly and the staff were friendly. We had a lot of time to kill before the movie so weren't in any sort of rush. Even though we had a lot of time, our drinks arrived quickly (and the staff is knowledgable about what they serve, which is helpful). I've seen some negative comments about the service speed. It wasn't very crowded when we were there, so I didn't notice any delays. Perhaps when it's crowded it's different, but that would be logical, no? Dinner arrived at a decent interval after the drinks. Ordered the Mac and cheese (not normally a fan of that type of food but a friend told me I had to try it here). It was tasty -- 4 kinds of cheeses and noodles done to perfection. Not to soft and not under cooked. Only suggestion I have for this dish? Bring a defibrillator - you're gonna need it.

The new menu is atrocious. I used to eat here every Wednesday for Burgerama which is their half-price burger night. The burger selection was top notch. They even prided themselves on their "award-winning" burgers. The quality of the food was amazing. But now, even asking about a burger off the old menu will get you a weird look and the completely ridiculous "we can't even make that anymore." A restaurant that cares this little about their dedicated customers is a restaurant that will not get my business.

Bottom Line - All menu items are basically bar food; however, they do bar food pretty well. The burgers/sandwiches and appetizers are always what you'd expect. I especially love the salt/pepper calamari. I came on Thursday, December 30, 2010 with 3 friends and we ordered: Salt & Pepper Calamari ($8.95) "Flash fried and seasoned with kosher salt and black pepper. Lemon-pepper aioli for dipping." - This dish was really good. Everyone loved it. The strips of calamari steak were so tender. I'd definitely order this again as an appetizer. Crunchy Onion Rings ($8.25) "With chipotle dipping sauce." - The onion rings were good, but I thought there was too much batter, and the onion pieces were a bit too thin (the onion might not have been the most fresh, too because it wasn't that juicy). If needing to make a decision, I'd opt for more of the calamari. BLAT Sandwich (-Bacon, -Lettuce, -Avocado and -Tomato on toasted whole wheat. Served with soup or salad or fries. Full: 5.95) - I had the BLAT sandwich. For the price, it was a fantastic deal. I would consider ordering this again just because the value was good. However, though the menu said it comes with whole wheat bread, it actually came out with sourdough. That disappointed me but I didn't tell the server )=

The food here is good, but I had really terrible service and I won't be returning as a result. I was seated by the host, then a few minutes later I was asked if I might be more comfortable at a different table. I thought the question was odd, as I was already seated and settled in. When I said no, the response was, "Well, I need you to move because the restaurant is getting busy and I need this table for larger groups." I was visibly disturbed by this, and a few minutes later, the same employee returned and asked "why I looked so pissed off." I attempted to explain why I found his question and general approach rude, but he didn't get it. It's a shame, as I had been regularly going here on the weekends for brunch. Now I won't return. There is no excuse for treating your customers so poorly. The lesson: food is good, but don't sit in the bar area, and don't go in alone and expect to be treated well.

Known to the a Capitol Hill Staple, Deluxe Bar and Grill definitely fits the bill. It has a nice feel of "old town saloon" but with the upkeep to maintain a "solid" feel. The menu is good-sized and the prices are very reasonable. Breakfast plates averate 8-10bux. I had the Seattle Seafood scramble which had scrimp, salmon, scallops, a seasonal fish, spinach, tomatoes and asiago cheese. I can't think of a more delicious scramble! It was very tasty and the crispy hash brown bites (tater-tots) were a nice alternative as well. I didn't order any drinks, but their drink selection is vast including some nice looking cocktails. So many delicious looking items on the menu so little time!

Noooo! What did these guys do?? My wife and I have come here regularly for over a year, for both brunches and dinners, and they've always been 5/5 excellent. But today we went for brunch and were greeted with a completely different and stripped-down menu. Gone was the variety of scrambles, pancakes, and other great stuff to choose from, with just a few things left. I got a veggie hash and thought it was overly bland and uninteresting. Had very little flavor, the potatoes weren't just not-friend but they were even under-cooked a little bit too. The veggies were sparse except for the potatoes, and had almost no flavor. The eggs on top were decent. Also, I asked if I could get their challah bread for my toast, and without telling me ahead of time they charged nearly $3 for a single piece, labeled as "one piece of french toast", but it certainly wasn't prepared like their french toast! My wife got something else (don't remember exactly), and it wasn't really that good either. Hopefully this was a fluke and I'll update the review if things turn around, but this was so disappointing after their previously delicious food and variety.

Yummy burgers! Great atmosphere! And the best part- it's a cool place in a cool neighborhood. I went here with friends yesterday for the first time and loved the nice little booth we were put in. Our waiter was very nice and made us feel like we were regulars- so refreshing for Capitol Hill! I will say, the atmosphere and service carries this place because the food we ordered (nachos and burgers) were only pretty ok. The nachos were your average tasty, cheesy mess and the burgers were about the same. Very good, juicy, flavorful but just great. At a burger place celebrating 50 years, I expected something spectacular. I had a really great time here and I will be back! I guess I was just a little surprised at the average burgers and regular, tasty, bar food. Loved it!

Outstanding my good friends, outstanding! I am not much for pineapple on my burger, but I was inspired to try the Hawaiian burger - just excellent! The 3 bean chili w/chicken was incredible, I could go back just for that alone. But todays prize goes to their mac n cheese....oooohhhhh so good! a bit of crunch, a bunch of cheese and a tad bit of blue cheese. It's just wonderful. Do yourself a favor and try it. Parking is my only gripe - just one of those areas you gotta hunt. We came at an offer hour, so not much going on - service was excellent. I am not sure I would want to try this place at peak hours, it must be a zoo!!

We went for a Saturday lunch and it was very quiet and low key. The food was decent, but nothing to write home about. I had some eggs benedict which were good, though the hollandaise could have been better. The service left something to be desired. Our waitress was fine at taking our order and getting us our food, but other than that she didn't even look at our table. It was pretty impossible to flag her down for questions or drink refills. I think it would have been different if we'd come in the evening.

This is my second time being here where my customer service was just terrible. The food I won't argue is greasy and tasty but the people who work there killed it for me. The first time, I went on a date, we were seated right away then ignored without a menu of water for 20 mins. I work as a server as well and this to me is just bad, we had to order water from the bar. Then when we finally did order it took forever to come out. Needless to say we were ignored and treated unfairly. This last week I went to try it again and I brought my baby with me, he was fussy so I had to hold him and rock him the whole time I was there. I ordered a delicious sandwich to which I only had a bite. I asked the server if he could box it for me to which he declined...rude. Then as I was heading out i was a block down when I realized I left my food I hurried back! Calling prior and the said they'd hold it. But when I arrived it was no where to be found. I asked if there was anyway I could get a new one or a half or something since I hadn't even touched mine. Basically, I was SOL and waisted $15 on bad customer service. This place has potential with it's good food, but crummy employees.

Great happy hour! A fun place with a great bar selection. They had a lot of fun mixed drinks. They even make their own ginger beer! Will be going back to try their version of the Manhattan. We had the fried macaroni and cheese, calamari, and tater-tots. The Tater-tots were amazing! Great beer selection. Wait staff was quick and attentive. Will definitely be back!

$5 Burgerrama, good-sized beer list, and outdoor seating right on Broadway. I met a friend who lives in Cap Hill for dinner. I told her with traffic it would be easier to meet on this end of Broadway, and she suggested DeLuxe since they have a $5 special of burger and fries, and she is the pickiest eater, and also knows I have a weakness for french fries. The best part was that the burger was any burger on the menu. Which I thought was pretty awesome. I got their western style burger which had BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese, and fried onion straws. It was at the suggestion of the waiter, because all the burgers looked so good, and my friend and I were too busy talking to actually look at the menu. It was a good burger for $5. For the regular $10? Nah, not so much. I really love the outdoor seating though, it was one of those rare, nice, Seattle summer days, so getting to sit outside just made me all around happy. Beer, good burger, tasty french fries, sunshine, and good conversation made for a wonderful Wednesday evening. Especially after being stuck in traffic for 45 minutes trying to get over there. I doubt I would come here regularly, but if meeting up with anyone in Cap Hill on a Wednesday, I'm totally coming here! Just a note, they won't seat you until your entire party is there. Which is understandable, especially considering how busy this place got. After I arrived though, my friend and I were seated within like 2 minutes though.

I guess my first warning should have been that we walked in at 6:30 PM on a Wednesday evening -- prime dinner time on Burgerama night -- and, while the place was reasonably full, we were seated immediately. In the past, walking in at that time on that night would have meant at least a 30 minute wait for a table. But, seated, we perused the menus. I had a decent glass of red at a decent price. My husband was thrilled to see what was probably the most extensive selection of ciders we have seen on a restaurant menu (and, of course, ordered from this and enjoyed his choice). But, the food! OMG! I don't know what happened. I am not a beef eater and, when Burgerama'ng it, always sub a chicken patty for the beef. This has always worked out fine. Until this most recent visit. My "fresh grilled chicken patty" tasted like -- well tasted like nothing really. It tasted like it had been cooked, frozen, thawed, and then nuked. Or, perhaps they did not even bother with all that and just boiled the raw meat, but got sidetracked by some french fry emergency and forgot about it for an hour or three. It was totally dry and anything that might have once have passed for flavor in this poor little breast had long since left this earth. It was completely disgusting. The Deluxe should be embarrassed to serve something like this and pass it off as "food." My husband felt his (beef) burger was fine, but nothing to go running back for. I give two stars instead of one due to past happy experiences and that fact that we had super friendly and efficient service. I might go back some day and give the Deluxe another try. But, it will be a while before I do.

Terrible service!! Our server seated us where she wanted and never asked what type of seating we would prefer or where. She was rude and had an attitude from the start. I ordered a salad with my lunch and she never brought it. I had to ask the bartender to bring it to me. Server delivered wrong food, and the mustard had dried on, caked mustard in the tip of the bottle would up squirting more on me than on my sandwich. Server never thanked us not did she ask us to return. At this point, I think she knew we weren't going to. My boyfriend asked to speak to the manager, Brian, who was no help at all. He was defensive and sided with Laura, the server. Basically, after he had enough with listening to our complaint, instead of resolving it, he told us to leave. We asked him to refund our money for such lousy service, and he said he would, after asking for it. Laura spoke to us too like we were children. We have many options of eating establishments in the Capital Hill neighborhood, and this restaurant will NEVER again be one of them. Sad.

The BOA Burger is an excellent reason to eat dinner at the Deluxe Bar & Grill. Until I had that burger, I thought Deluxe was a typical neighborhood pub...and I still do...but now I know why it has lasted for so long in the neighborhood. These people are burger professionals. Peppered Bacon, Red Onion, Avocado, Swiss Cheese, lettuce & tomato make a delicious combo, especially paired with not-too-greasy french fries. It could be said that these Deluxe people are french-fry experts as well. I fully recommend the Deluxe for anyone who needs a carnivorous meal in Capital Hill.

We went into this place to grab a quick snack (some appetizers) after watching a movie in the area. After walking in the mood of the place was very lively, and we liked that. It felt like a neighborhood bar. Unfortunately, this good first impression dissipated as we had to wait, what seemed like forever, for someone to come by our table and take our order for drinks. As we waited, and waited, and waited, finally an aloof waitress approached our table and took our order for drinks. As we were getting ready to tell her that we were ready to order food, she just took off and left us hanging. We continued to wait, and wait and wait. She would walk by, but she was EXCELLENT at avoiding eye contact. Now that I think of it, so was everybody else at this restaurant. We were trying to get everybody's attention to no avail. Finally she stopped by our table with the drinks and took off again! AGAIN! Finally came back, took our order of nachos and left. We waited for a few minutes and the food finally came. We never saw our waitress again. She just kept tending the other tables. So we had to ask for our check from another employee. This was not a good experience. I would say that maybe I caught them on an off day? And that maybe I should give them another try? Considering that they are, apparently, a staple in the Capitol Hill area? But I don't know. I don't think I would go back. Sorry.

While I can't see myself coming here often due to their pricey but fairly standard pub food, slow and distracted service, and a door that has to stay open and leave you shivering in your seat because it is broken... I can see myself coming back for Wednesday Burgerama. $5 and change for a big ol' burger and fries when you order a drink? And it doesn't even have to be alcoholic? SIGN ME UP. Again -- it wasn't anything amazing, but hell. You can't eat at McDonalds this cheap. Plus I had bacon, avocado and swiss cheese on that sucker. I was pleased for the price (would never pay $10 for it normally though). The service left you feeling neglected here -- times between being seated, placing your order, getting the food and then the check were epic. I might have been more annoyed if I was in a rush. DeLuxe serves its purpose -- mainly filling my belly on a budget.

I went for HH with a couple of friends. We got the pork sliders, calamari, fried mac and cheese, and chicken tenders. My favorite were the calamari, it tasted great-they were long strips of squid battered. My friends enjoyed the fried mac and cheese. No one liked the pork sliders.Everything else was alright, nothing really stood out for me. We all got drinks (three of us), and did not enjoy any of them. You have to order a drink in order to get HH prices.

I would say this was a typical burger joint similar to stanfords..so definately a place to go to for happy hour. I didn't think the menu had that much of a selection -I ended up with the spicy chicken club- it was okay but I liked the fact that I could sub the fries for the soup (which was okay too) everything was just not enough to remember much about... however..they do have a really great mac and cheese that will fill you up in just a couple of bites! fyi-- full salads could pass for a small

The service was excellent, but the food was severely lacking. I ordered the mac and cheese, pulled pork sliders and the chicken strips for my girlfriend and I. The mac and cheese was quite bland under the very pungent taste of the bleu cheese - which we had to pick out. The breading on the chicken strips was overcooked and the chicken inside was undercooked. The sliders had very little pork on them and what little there was had no flavor whatsoever; the only flavor came from the coleslaw. I must stress that the service was excellent, which was our visit's sole saving grace. They did have a new cook today.

I've started to come here more often again. Back when I first moved to Seattle I frequented Deluxe. Still living right near by, I finally discovered their specials on Weds nights! What rock have I been under? If you buy a soda you can get a burger and fries for super cheap! The deal is so good that I've come here at least 3 times. It starts late at night... maybe 10pm or 11? Make sure to call ahead to get details! Service is never amazing here. Don't ever expect someone to ask how the meal is once you've gotten your food and on't expect refills unless you wave your arms like a maniac. But do expect decent food, especially for the price!

Well my initial impression was 3 stars, ok nothing special. But we had a large group go here for a rotating happy hour. They were warned earlier to expect 25-35 people. Everything seemed to be going swimmingly, until they abruptly decided to cut off our group just before 10. Not close or anything, just not serve to our group. No one was being rowdy or drunk, we were playing pool and chatting, as people are known to do in a bar. And more importantly we were spending money, apparently they don't like money.

I've spent a decent amount of time here over the summer on their little sidewalk seating area watching Cap Hill go by. I would say overall this place is pretty average. I've found the stuff on the menu to be a bit hit and miss. I really enjoyed some of the offerings like the mac-and-cheese and chicken quesadilla (neither of which are super greasy like they can be at some places when using really cheap cheese) but then found other things very lacking like the chicken strips that were bland, dry and tasteless and the salad that's obviously been sitting in a plastic bag for a few days before making it to your plate. The BF is a huge fan of the lamb burger here, he just has to say those two words and I know this is where we'll be headed to get one. The staff is fairly friendly. They check in from time to time to make sure your drinks are still filled but don't really chat much or check in to see how food and such is. It's also a totally random thing, but I was amused by the chalkboard in the bathroom stalls, encouraging people to leave their mark on the walls. The whole place does have a nice laid back atmosphere that I enjoy, I also like the old-wood styling inside that adds to it's charm.

The best part of the well-located bar is the huge Bitburger beers. Definitely get at least the medium 32oz beer, though I recommend ordering the large. The menu is diverse and the food is slightly above average. Sadly, the weak part of each evening here was the service. They are painfully slow and plan to wait at least twenty minutes for each round of drinks. If you're thirsty, I'd stop at the bar before sitting down.

Not very many places can get a 1 star in Capitol Hill but De Luxe managed to miss on every category possible. The server was beyond slow. I believe it took about 15 minutes to get our beers even though the place was about half full. The server also forgot to bring out a couple of the condiments for our lunches. We got two different dishes and both were horrendous. My chicken was extremely dry and my girlfriend's nachos tasted as though they've been sitting under a heat lamp for an hour. The beer selection was so-so but below average for this part of Seattle. Luckily we only went there for lunch and didn't waste too much money. If you're looking for a good place to eat or drink I'd suggest driving a little farther south on Broadway and checking out of many other places.

I can't really tell you what it is that brings me back to this place. There's nothing about it that stands out, but I enjoy the overall atmosphere and I find myself coming back again and again. They have good drinks, and it's a great place to try new mixed concoctions (ginger vodka and brandy.. something something... whoa). If you go on a colder night, they have the fires lit inside. Any place with a fireplace almost automatically means cozy to me. Maybe this means I'm kind of a pyro, or maybe I'm just warm and cuddly. Downside: No parking. Ever. Like, ever. Prepare to trek at least 5 blocks past all the Broadway bums ("spare any change??").

Stopped in here for lunch before seeing a SIFF movie at Harvard Exit. It's been a while since I've been in and a lot has changed. The burgers were flavorless and the fries soggy. Even the cola was off--too much syrup? Will not be coming back for a meal.

I've dined here a couple of times and have never been disappointed. I was told to go for the burgers, and I can't deny they are delicious. Deluxe has a lot of atmosphere beckoning from a time and place where mass produced restaurants didn't rule our stomachs. It gets loud, it gets busy, and the food is fast. It works, it screams neighborhood bar and grill, their burgers are delicious and their fries equally so. You can always get better, but there is few places that strike a cord with me such as Deluxe. It's a place where the waiters seem to remember us, and yeah they're not overly friendly but they fit as much as the heavy wood door to the small tables fit. It's a slice of uniqueness in a mass produced world.

I hate writing reviews like this but I feel like this was a real bummer. I came with a large group and the gratuity was automatically included with the check (not unusual for large groups). The waiter did not provide a check for my first round but he told me a price and I added extra cash on top for what I thought was a fair tip. When I ordered a couple more rounds and checked out again the tab was quite a bit more for the same exact drinks. I had a conversation with him and told him I use to be a waiter and felt bad for not tipping more (at the time I assumed he told me the wrong price for the beer, I realize now, the first round wasn't auto gratted) so I gave him quite a bit more on top. I dont really care about the auto grat or even double tipping him (on top of the auto grat) on the last couple rounds, I think it's pretty shady that he wouldn't tell me about the auto grat AS I was going out of my way to tip him more.

Good solid burger fare. Got the original, which was not wildly flavorful, but very satisfying - next time will get a duded up burger. Very nice fries and a respectable house salad. Enjoyed the Sour Cherry cocktail, a whiskey sour made with dried cherry-infused liquor. The atmosphere is a little goofy given the top 40s/oldies music combo, but I'm only slightly bemused to admit I dug it! Would return.

Eh, not too bad! I think I might become more of an avid visitor. I was wooed with charm. I came here for a friendly happy hour gathering and actually ordered a drink and two happy hour items for about 25 dollars without tip! Considering the portions were large... not bad! I ordered the blue cheese salad and 2 tacos. The food was good; not great. But, I was full and satisfied. For the price, done! I'm sold. Drink-wise, you can order anything and you'll be happy. Bloody Mary for me (which, I guess they are known for). Wednesday nights are apparently pretty popping. An old-timer recently told me that back when he was a young fellow, he would frequent DeLuxe and the Wednesday night special was the thing. Students from both SU and UW loved DeLuxe. I'm not sure if that's changed much, but I can see why folks love it. The service is great. The staff is friendly, funny, patient, and prompt. That paired with a charming atmosphere, and slightly dim lights, make this place a charmer. Advice: I would totally stop in. I look forward to coming back. Casual yet slightly not. I dig that. What a DeLuxe experience (no pun intended... he he).

I enjoy coming here from time to time, especially on Wednesdays because it's their Burgerama night! Best night to come because you buy a drink and you can choose just about any burger off their menu with fries for only $5! Amaaaazing! I love a good deal! Servers are nice, drinks and food are good, and it's fun to come with friends because they have a pool table in the back. It's a fun place, but not my first pick if I'm looking for a place to go around Capitol Hill.

I haven't been here in awhile so I can't state the current. However, I thought their burgers are well made and love it a couple of times I went in. The wait could be kinda long due to inefficient waiter doing his job of taking order and get it going for you.

Whenever my wife and I go up to Seattle and feel like hitting up our old stomping grounds, where do we go? The DeLuxe! The menu has changed slightly, and the happy hour is slightly less tantilizing, but at least they brough back the basic sliders. The service is still great. This last time we got the at 5:56 and I made the joke that I had hoped we still made happy hour (ending at 6). The host heard my joke and immediately offered to take our order so we'd make it before 6. We got the sliders.

This place has been around for ages, and while it's lost some of its cagey old jus'-folks diner atmosphere, it makes up for it with a great selection of fancy new gastropub fare and some excellent cocktails. It's a great place to eat before a flick at the Harvard Exit, which is just around the corner, and it's got a great selection of beer for those who are into such things. My one major beef, other than its recent fancification, is that even with its voluminous interior, it can get pretty crowded, and the staff isn't always up to contending with so many people with so many orders, especially on a weeknight. That said, you'll get a solid meal and some terrific drinks for your money, and it's one of those places that generally lives up to its 'neighborhood fixture' location.

A local place with cheap-ish drinks and some decent food. If you head here for happy hour, lunch, or dinner and don't get your hopes up too high, you'll be A-OK-ing this place too. It isn't anything fancy (sure the salad dressing comes in a plastic tub on the side) but it is a great place to stop in for something simple without breaking the bank. LOVE: salads, affordable drinks (funky cocktails, rotating beers), cheap deal days (burgerama, steakerama, and blue plate specials), yummy fries, great BOA burger, flexible substitutions, yummy pub-style fish and chips, large portions, cheap pool (although the tables are a bit old), two daily happy hours, family-friendly, really nice service people. DON'T LOVE: generally slow service, odd iced tea, no-name soda, pitiful breakfast (seriously, I have had some funky breakfasts here - weird sausage, weird pancakes, weird biscuits, weird coffee... just weird). HELPFUL HINTS: They have consistently overcooked my meat here - ask for it less well-done than you want it. The staff is great about fixing a mistake - just say something if your food or drink isn't good and they'll fix it or get you something else (though you might have to wait a bit).

I've been to Deluxe Bar & Grill for multiple happy hours. It suffices as a convenient happy hour location, but it doesn't particular stand out as a place I would seek out. I went here for their late night happy hour (they're open until 2am!), and I left almost two hours later ready to fall asleep on the street. The service could not have possibly been any slower. I really wanted to explain away the bad service we were receiving (e.g., may be they were understaffed? too many people to serve?), but I just couldn't find a justifiable excuse. My friend and I ordered off of the half-priced appetizers menu. We had bbq pork sliders, nachos, and buffalo chicken strips. The portions were generous (see pictures), but overall the food was average. I'm sure the flavors would have been enhanced if you were coming back from a long night out. The decor is generic (think CHAAMPS chain restaurants). It's 3-star food paired with horrible service leading to a 2-star rating.

Always get the grass-fed beef burger.... One of the best burgers ever. When I want a good burger, I will come here. :) Happy Hour is great, got some yummy nachos as an appetizer.

The Deluxe has been great in the past, but every time I've been, it's been a tiny bit more disappointing than the last time I've been. The food is erratic, and the wings on the menu have been replace by ... chicken strips. A tiny pile, no less. However, everything becomes more worth it when you go for happy hour, where all the apps are cheap and the drinks still tasty. They have some good exotic/European beers, and a great blueberry gin and tonic with a bit of elderberry syrup, which is one of my favorite flavors. I wish I saw it on more menus around town! Their veggie burger is fine, the mac and cheese is very satisfying, and the nachos are of a size that can only be described as ridiculous. The baked potatoes-as-an-entree are interesting, and I have my eye on the pepperjack based baker for dinner, the next time I can't hold out on the blueberry gin and tonic.

Was very disappointed with my first visit here. sat down with 4 other people and service was slow. We ordered and it took so long i had to ask to change mine to go - when i did the server was less than enthusiastic to comply and when he brought me the bill had a 18% gratuity added. Not only tack, but unearned. No interest in going back. Food flavor was unbalanced and left me not wanting to even finish it.

Current having 50 yr special with beer and burgers. The burgers are overcooked and the drinks are just ok. I'm guessing due to the specials that's the reason why there are people waiting out the door for the place. Otherwise the food and drinks arent that spectacular or worth writing home about.

Supremely average in every possible way. And you know what, sometimes you just need an average bar. The atmosphere is whatever, the food is standard pub fare. The cocktail list is deceptively fancy looking, and poorly executed on. Stick to ordering the basics. I still love the place though. It's exactly what you expect a neighborhood bar to be. Nothing more, nothing less. Grab a stool and a beer and watch the world go by.

Return visit. They have a great new retro menu with cheap eats, very busy for a sunday!! Our food looked good and was suprised at the size of the 2.19 cheese burger! Dont order more than 2, cuz the price is small, but a normal sized burger. Thanks guys!

  • Dennis D.

It's an alright bar. The menu selection isn't much to behold, and the short-ribs are mediocre at best, but the wait-staff is nice. They replaced our nearly finished burger with a brand new one (sides and all)... granted it was because the waiter dropped the old one on the floor when he was boxing it up, but even still... :-p

First time (and last time) here. The food was pretty decent, but the service was bad to the point of insulting. They kept us waiting in the pool table room, where we had to jump around to avoid pool cues, then were seated at a table with too few chairs, then we waited 15 minutes for a server, then another 20 minutes for our drinks. We had to flag down someone every time we needed anything, and the food took forever to arrive as well. So, no thanks to a return visit. 2 stars only because of the food itself.

I am really bummed to be giving this place only 3 stars, the old deluxe would of gotten 4 if not 5 stars so I had just gotten to Vivace and everyone was getting up and I just started to walk with them, and I was like you guys going for food ? yes we are going to the Deluxe for Cheese Burgers, do you want to join us ? Who am I to turn down a Cheese Burger, hell you had me at Cheese so I made 8 people all together, we got lucky and a party of 8 had just finished dessert so they were gonna clear the tables and get us seated in like 10 minutes, way cool on that, and they let us get separate checks and didn't add in no crazy gratuity amount, we tip well anyways so they got paid for damn good service, had 2 people each time they came to the table, and were fast and efficient now for the burger I got the Broadway and Roy Burger, it is a 1/2 lb Kobe Beef burger on a Bolo roll with fresh shoe string fries, Tomato and lettuce with 1000 island dressing, this also come with what looked like fresh cut Fries but they didn't taste like fresh fries, they were kinda bland Now the Kobe Beef for 12.95 for a hamburger it should have some taste to it ? it was perfectly cooked for me just pink in the middle and charcoal on the out side, but it had no flavor to it I mean come on guys season your meat before you cook it maybe a little salt and pepper ? I don't know but my self and one other person got the Broadway and Roy burger and we both were disappointed, I would of rather gotten a regular burger and saved a few bucks Now your Onion Rings kick ass and the Jalapeno mayo to dip them in rocks also Big plus also they have RC Cola on Tap that Fucking Rocks!!! I will probably go back and try a regular Cheese Burger, but my first impression is there are better 1/2 lb Burgers on Broadway

I was invited out to the Wednesday Burgerama with a few friends last night. We arrived around 6:30, got on the list and were seated within 10 minutes. While the burgers are nothing terribly special, they are served really quickly and for $5, it's a great deal. I'm still puzzled by the schizophrenic music selections, but nothing too cringe-worthy this time. I'm still not over the Tatu from my last visit, though. Our server was down to business and had absolutely no issues with putting all of our orders on different tabs (even after she had already provided us with the combined bill). No attitude, no stink face, no problems.

We sat at the bar for some drinks before dinner one night. I was kinda hungry so we took a look at the menu for some snacks. Everything sounded so good but the bacon cheese fries sounded the best. Oh- and believe me friend, they were. The service was fine but thats just dealing with the bartender. I would like to go back for an entire meal of food. What I was again upset over was the crowd. This time loud and obnoxious....in my ear.

As midwestern transplant to the Seattle area, I have been desperately searching for a good place to get a burger. I thought the area was great, fun to people watch... We sat on the patio and it was just perfect. The food was great, and they had a pretty good selection of beer. The reason they didn't get 5/5 was because the service was a bit slow. I think it was a 2 hour meal... which was fine because we were in relax mode, but it might not always work!

Tuscan Chicken entre made me as sick as dog all night on June 29, 2008 AND it didn't have much taste (go figure?) and the whole deal cost me $50! Ouch!. Something in it was not right. Worst heartburn ever, up all night and my stomach feels likes Sherman's Army marched through. Waiterf and bartender seemed overwhelmed and it wasn't very busy.

Good food though, and those $5 burgers on Wednesdays are cool. Just don't get nickel and dimed like if you substitute fries for a salad ($1.95) or substitute a beef pattie for a garden burger ($1.00). WTF people. C'mon. At least they didn't charge for refills. They actually charged for a side of dijon mustard once. I hate it when places nickel and dime! WTF! _________________________________________ UPDATE: they must have read Yelp because they don't do the nickel and dime shit anymore for condiments. ALSO they have coordinated the seating much better. Deluxe is my FAVORITE burger place now.

There is nothing special about the Deluxe. The food is your standard bar and grill fare, prepared tolerably. The service and atmosphere are friendly, nothing over the top. The prices seem comparable to other place on Broadway. The one thing about hti place that seemed a little fun or different was the selection of "beertails", which are a blends like Guiness & cider, or white ale and lambic beer. I was skeptical but they were pretty good. Finally, they charged my companion's card twice, which I'm sure will be fixed, but is an inconvenience. Whatever, Deluxe.

I have been to the Deluxe numerous times and they have a solid diner-type menu, but this review is about their wings. But last night I went for happy hour and for the first time ordered wings. I have always been disappointed with the wing scene in Seattle (too expensive, too small, weird sauces) after living in upstate NY for 6+ years, but these were PRETTY DARN GOOD! Here is my brief rundown: PROS: 10 wings per serving! The wings ACTUALLY have meat on them! The sauce actually tasted like buffalo wing sauce You get a pretty generous number of celery AND carrot sticks Happy hour price is $4.40 with a drink CONS: They weren't that spicy and there were no 'hotness' options DISCLAIMER: I haven't eaten good wings in a long time, so my idea of authentic wing taste may be off. But nonetheless, it's a good deal and won't break the bank to try them. I would be curious to know what other wing connoisseurs think....

You gotta love it when a group of people reach a quick enthusiastic consensus on something after a couple hours of drink. MEATLOAF SLIDERS. You can't possibly go wrong with these moist morsels of munchiness. Their desserts were tasty as well. I wouldn't mind checking out their burger specials (on Wednesdays?) but alas, I don't live here.

I've lived close by for many years and, sadly, feel I need to downgrade my rating from what it was. Lower quality primarily. Today (regular price night) I went because my friend wanted to, but I've decided I can't even justify Burgerama Wednesday anymore. The burgers are too bready, the fries cheaper/greasier, and on my most recent visit I noticed that the mustard and ketchup came in standard, unlabeled squeeze containers (they used to be Heinz bottles and Grey Poupon). While not terrible, it's just an indication of the general trend of some places cutting corners... :(

Visit: Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012 @ 12:30pm (first visit, & last) Ambiance: fine Beverages: beer (great), bloody mary (funny taste) Food: very very poor! Why do you think french fries are dark and greasy; because those in charge are either too lazy or too cheap to change the oil. Portion size was embarrassing. Burger was overcooked. My guess: this place in is trouble.

Every friday my wife and I get our post workout meal here and its always fun and yummy. Deluxe's large selection of rotating beers always adds to the fun for me. Elisha, our regular bartender, will always give me a taste of 3 or 4 new beers and then I make me choice. I always find something new and interesting...even my wife will taste! We've had nearly almost everything on the menu at this point and its all solid pub grub. A standout are the fresh, filling, and delicious buns they use for burgers and some of their other sandwich selections. They also have some great rotating specials. And, if that wasn't enough, they have an excellent craft cocktail selection. Just go.

After being turned away at the Bleu Bistro because they were booked for the evening, my girlfriend and I stumbled hungrily around Capitol Hill, looking for something to fill our gullets. It was our first night in town and we were starving. After perusing several menus at several places, we found what we were looking for: comfort food and beer. I ordered the deluxe mac and cheese, while she ordered the meatloaf and we split them. The mac and cheese was awesome, with bacon and ham and three types of cheese, including asiago and cheddar - super-yum, if not a tad bit rich. The meatloaf was also good - tasty and moist, unlike a lot of other meatloaf I've had. I could have done without the homemade ketchup, but that was easily scraped aside. They had a pretty decent beer selection and I made friends with Manny's Pale Ale, which I had never had before. Mmm...delicious beer...aauuughhhh. *drools* Just what the doctor ordered after a long flight.

I've only been here twice - once on a drunken new years eve that I don't recall particularly well and then today for Breakfast. So this is mostly a review based on today (don't remember anything particularly good or bad about New Years, so I would say it was fine that time). Coffee was on the table within 3 minutes (a major plus in my world) and was okay - not great but not awful. I had the "BoB" Breakfast on Biscuit and I ordered it without the gravy. Food came out fast and I would say it was average. The biscuit was a little dry but remember I ordered it without the gravy it's supposed to come with so I thought with that in mind it was very good. The main thing I loved about this place was that everyone was friendly, service was quick, and even though it was just me and my newspaper they checked in on me just enough to be sure I was always happy (even when I ended up staying there an extra 20 minutes watching the football game) but never pushed me to clear out so they could have the table (as I have experienced elsewhere). I'd put this down as a nice local place if you want something laid back, affordable, and yummy, but not crowded and not gormet.

Wednesday night Burgerama is worth the price! But wait time is semi long. Food takes a while to prepare. Customer service is rushful and rude during Wednesday nights. Otherwise, food is worth the price. I would definately come back.

I'm not going to lie. I usually just come here on Wednesdays for their half-priced burgers. But I really like the place. It's cramped and the staff can some times give you the stink eye though I think I like that from this joint. The burgers aren't amazing and appear to just be preformed patties. I'm cool with that though because I mean, a burger's a burger in my book. But if you go and grab one be sure to do the Art's Louisiana because the garlic onion topping can turn that preformed patty into one heck of an experience. And ask for extra napkins because it's going to get messy!

Their burgers are great, their beers are tasty, and their desserts are heart-stoppingly rich. They're not cheap, but they aren't terribly expensive, either. Expect to spend about $15-20 bucks per person. They also have fantastic mac n' cheese. They have a special on burgers every Wednesday.

To me this is my favorite place to get American style food on Broadway they beat out Julia's, charlies, the Broadway grill. The mac and cheese is fantastic and anyone who is a fan of mac and cheese needs to check it out and get the extra bacon and ham in it. I love the fries and i would buy there tarter sauce if the bottled it. I don't really get there drinks, there burgers are pretty damn good. The mac and cheese is the best ever. The service is always great. There quality and consistency of food there is what puts them over the other places i know what i am going to get and whatever i get will be great. I like that they have blue plate specials too.

Yay for the food but nay for service! The food was totally awesome for the price that it is and the atmosphere/decor conveys 'home'. The negative distractions there started with the overweight waitress who had negligently crossed our names off of the waiting list (thus had made us wait longer) along with a rude, also overweight, and angry waitress named Crystal who was rude to me even though she wasn't even our assigned waiter/waitress. For the reasons stemming from the shanagans with the fist waitress who had crossed our names off of the list while we were patiently waiting at the bar for our turn to be seated, and had I not said anything 15-20 minutes later, my friend and I would've waited until we've each turned a year older ! I had decided to hop next door to buy some sushi to snack on while I was waiting for my food to arrive. Then the same rude, overweight , and angry waitress named Crystal yelled (in my face in front of the crowd) "Ma'am! You can't eat that in here!!!!!" Needless to say -- I'll order my food for take out next time. Our waiter with the buzz cut blond hair, along with the hostess guy (kind of tall, skinny, with dark brown hair) were on the money with their stuff. There were just the 'other' negative distractions that had made this a more likely than not -- distasteful experience. *For further prove, please see my friend Terri K's thread on this matter on 11/28/2008 (please scroll down) THIS PLACE SUCKS!!!

Came here 10/26/10, hoping to grab a burger and watch some NBA on the season opening night. We asked nicely to sit in one of the open tables with a clear view of the game, but the waitress refused to do so. Se tried to seat us in a table with no view of the TV. When we kindly asked again she walked away from us. It was clear she wasn't interested in waiting on us. Disappointing and awkward experience.

One of my favorite places to go for late night happy hour! The waiters are nice and friendly, the service is fast, and the food is so comforting and delicious. A great late night place to go with a small group of friends after an event on Capitol Hill. A little crowded during their busy hours, but totally worth the minor squish!

We made an impromptu visit on Valentine's evening not expecting much. First off, their mixed drinks were a bit over done. You don't need 5+ ingredients in a drink, especially if only one of those ingredients is actually alcoholic. We started with a cup of their lobster bisque. It had that tang of lobster in a creamy broth, but I was hoping for more. It was just a broth but I was hoping for more of a chowder...at least a wee bit of lobster meat. For our appetizer, we ordered the spicy crab cakes. Again, we would have liked more chunks of meat in the crab cake. It was more of a blended crab mince in pancake form. It was well-seasoned and had nice savory elements, but the spicy mayo sauce really saved the dish. It came with a decent side of coleslaw that was lacking acid but the spicy sauce saved that too. On the waitress' suggestion, we ordered the Mahi Mahi. It was divine. The crust was crunchy, delicious and the fish was juicy and tasty. It came with a delicately flavored rice pilaf and steamed/boiled veggies. The veggies soaked up the flavor of whatever broth they were cooked in and was a nice surprise. The cauliflower was especially tasty. At the end of our meal, they offered a special Valentine's day complimentary truffle. I think they purchased them from Costco (so good!!!) but they were left out too long so they became more of a mushy poo wad. They would have been splendid were they frozen and allowed to gradually melt in your mouth. The extra star in an otherwise three-star review is given for our server and the staff, in general. Our server was absolutely great. She was friendly, engaging, not overbearing, and her timing was PERFECT. Whenever we had an empty plate, any passing waitstaff would clear it away. Then less than 5 minutes later, our next course would arrive piping hot. That is professional grade coordination. Kudos to the servers and kitchen staff who made it all happen like magic.

I LUUUUV the Deluxe. I usually come here after partying with friends til' late in the night... and they've never disappointed me! Large portions, great options on the menu. And, they have a late-night happy hour (can't remember exactly which nights) but sometimes you can get half off appetizers and burgers when you order any beverage! I've taken advantage of that deal a lot in my history of going here... My recommendation: the plate of garlic fries.... and beware, you may want to order a "small" size... cause the large size is enough for 3 people!

Deluxe Bar and Grill offers a variety of (cheap!) specials each day, with food into the wee hours of the morning (2 am!). My favorite night is hamburger night, as I usually get the Blue Cheese Burger. Be warned that the Deluxe can become considerably busy, and waits to be seated can be long around dinner time. Unless they are completely slammed, food is usually brought out in an reasonable amount of time. The Deluxe also offers Guinness on tap. I have even brought the kids here during the day time, and they had a good time too.

The bar has PRIME location... next to harvards exit directly across from Poppy... Its american bar food and done well, nachos i heard were horrid but great onion rings and the pomegranet vodka was nice and sweet. Mac and cheese were fried, 2 golf sized balls, average. Food not exactly gourmet, lots of fried options and if you go in expecting typical bar food, thats what you get.

I go to deluxe probably more often than i should. It's a block from my house, and I'm sort of in love with the entire waitstaff. They're all so good-looking! But seriously, happy hour nachos, burgerama, and their beer selection? killer. not to mention the badass steak salad. god, that thing is wonderful. Definitely check out the deluxe for wednesday burgerama and a good game of pool.

Another neighborhood favorite! Always great for a variety of burgers/sandwiches. I try to avoid going on Burgerama Wednesday because of the large crowds unless it's after 10pm... when I shouldn't be eating anyway. The service is usually pretty slow but if my drink is still halfway full then I don't mind the waiting. Oh and it's refreshing to see other gays stuff their faces just like I do!

40 plus reviews... so I will give you my target-ted assessment. Men avert your eyes. I just have to say that I had the best ranch dressing ever here. it was that "I'm on my period and please give me an excuse to not to lick the salt shaker in order to appease my salty craving" kind of ranch dressing. It is little more than a creamy white salty-sauce, but I can see building a solid repertoire of pub grub around it. From chicken strips to french fries to a garden salad. There is nothing that this creamy, white, salty-sauce couldn't make better.

Good, dependable pub - not too many pub choices on Broadway so they're sort of the only game in town. But I've never had a bad experience there. Great beer selection (though I would highly recommend the Spire Cider if you're into that sort of thing) and decent pub food. Not "outstanding", but definitely tasty - and your standard fare (nachos, burgers, fish n chips, etc.). Killer thick-cut fries. Their buffalo chicken sandwich is also an extremely tasty choice. They've also got stacked baked potatoes and a handful of pasta dishes. People there are always friendly and good service all around. Got a pool table in back. At least I think it was a pool table. It could've just been a really large guy in a green shirt. Also some TV's if you want to watch the game. And by "the game" I mean whatever sporting event you enjoy. Baseball. Bowling. Full-contact Knitting. All in all, like I say, a good dependable pub. Not the standard metrosexual, techno-blasting overload of senses bonanza which is quite common on Broadway.

The Deluxe is always a great place for a good meal. Never have had any problems and the staff is friendly. Honestly, not sure why I don't frequent this place more... Guess I will have to work on that!

No complaints. I come here for brunch every other weekend or so, the wait staff is incredibly friendly, and my breakfast is always delicious (try the Challah french toast, yum!). They are very accommodating to groups and are super friendly when you need to add someone to your table. Try the spicy Bloody Mary, it's delicious!

The Deluxe Bar and Grill is a cozy bar/restaurant up on the corner of Broadway and Roy. I go for the burgers and the drinks, while my boyfriend digs their steak frites. Despite the fact that I keep returning to the Whole Nine Yards Burger, I have also enjoyed a really delicious risotto (apparently a special, because I don't always see it on the menu) and the pear and gorgonzola ravioli. The Mayan Hot Chocolate drink (with hazelnut liqueur or virgin) is also pretty delish. Service can be a leetle spotty, but usually our servers are prompt, and one can give a little leeway on the busy weekend nights. You can also put orders in for pickup, and they are generally pretty good about having those waiting. The atmosphere is friendly, but not uncomfortably so. (None of the fake friendliness you see at chains like Chilis or Fridays where you are inundated with false camaraderie.)

I dig this place. It's clean, well cared for, has a well stocked bar, and killer burgers. There's nothing fancy, just burgers big enough to still be mooing (shut up you politically correct, Hillary-loving vegans) and fries. One does not enter not knowing one's liver will be working overtime for the next few hours. As for the bleach, ammonia, and fried grease? I didn't smell any of the three when I walked in....perhaps time for a new perfume?

i'll admit i've only been there one time and that was for the $5 burger night...don't know if that's still a regular thing, but the price alone had me sold. while there are some places i know of that would have advertised that deal and would've scrimped on the portions to make up for it (sneaky - not so much), i was extremely impressed with the quantity and quality of food you were getting for that price. especially in that area of seattle. we went and the place was packed. others were there for the reputable happy hour and burger night, too, i suppose. just a good ole' meal. good-sized burger with plenty of toppings/fillings and a (heaping) pile of hot and seasoned fries. bam. and all for $5!!! cold beer (just an ale) to wash it down and i left feeling full...and my wallet felt the same way. always a plus. :) our server was great. just wish we would've seen a bit more of him for refills (it WAS a busy night, i'll give the guy a break). would be happy to come back here on other evenings to see how some of the other dishes taste.

The worst ever!! I would never ever go back. Both waiter and manager were super rude. I am not sure what has happend but it used to be a great happy hour and great people working there. Too bad. Also, the bathrooms were filthy!!

Went here for lunch during happy hour and was very pleased. They have a regular menu and a happy hour menu. Had the SLIDERS.... OMG!!! Nachos are okay. Fries were a bit soggy with grease. Service amazing and happy. Cannot wait to try the rest of the menu!! :p

I've been here numerous times, and I've always found the experience to be generally good. I've brought my parents here a few times, and they've enjoyed it. It's a great place to bring city-shy visitors, and it seems like anyone can find something good to eat on the menu. My husband gets really excited about the baked potatoes. He likes potatoes... *It should be noted that I've never been during happy hour.* I am a mac and cheese aficionado, and theirs is pretty fantastic. Gooey blue cheesy goodness. Actually, it is this mac and cheese that helped me overcome my dislike of blue cheese. The first time I ordered it, I was scared of the blue cheese on top, but I put on my big girl pants and tried it anyway. Nom! Nom! Nom! I would say it's the only reason I've been so many times. Otherwise, I find this place to be pretty "meh." Tip: Order the mini mac and cheese from the appetizer list, rather than the entree. It's much more filling than it sounds. I promise. On the one occasion that I branched out and ordered something other than mac and cheese, I was disappointed. The cheese was applied very sparingly to my nachos. I mean, I wasn't aware we were having a cheese shortage. Am I right? Upsetting. Maybe they had used too much on everyone's mac and cheese. Anyway, as I said the food is pretty good. One thing I would stay away from is the cocktails. They are weak and expensive. Not worth the price, and I fall for it everytime. They all sound so yummy and fun. Grape snowcone? Yes please. Then it just tastes like a bunch of sugar, and not even really good sugar. Every damn time I wonder if they forgot to add the shots. So, long story short - this is a good place if you're just grabbing dinner, not a good place for a long night of drinky fun.

The only reason for a 3 star review is while I love going there on Wednesdays Burger specials, their service is not always the best. I was there two days ago around 11pm. They said their kitchen is open till 1am. Watiress hands me three menus, the full one, the happy hour one (since they have a 10pm to 1am happy hour) and a drink menu. When she comes back, she asks what I would like to drink. Two of the three beers I ask for are out. I opt for a lemonade. When I try to order items from the full menu, they said they're only serving burgers and fries and happy hour menu items. The problem with that is when you give me a full menu, I assume I can order anything from that menu. I order a burger with a side salad. The salad comes really late (usually it comes before the burger or with it) and I somehow get fries with the burger. Even then before that, the two different waitresses asks me twice how my meal is and I have to inquire about my salad. Maybe it was an off night.

This institution is a great example of what is wrong with the Seattle food scene: provide some generic American comfort food with a Seattle edge (Tillamook cheddar cheese! Fish and chips! OMG!), cheap drink specials, and attract the masses of young urbanites who just aren't creative enough to find a better place to go. The food is tolerable, don't get me wrong. But with such a wide world of excellent food out there why would you settle for this?

Driving down Broadway trying to think of something to eat and my friend mentioned how she can always eat a burger so we ended up at the Deluxe. We both had burgers that were delicious and the fries were piping hot. Food was great but a few things that I didn't like were: 1. We watched a party of 5 that was seated after us but they were waited on before us (we see these things)? 2. Had to ask for sweetener after iced tea had already been served. 3. Forgot the mayo (had to ask). 4. Had to flag the waitress to get our check and waited even longer for it as she ran our check but was too busy chatting with a table to remember to bring it to us 5. We were both charged .60 for a side or ranch (ARE YOU KIDDING ME?)! We just spent 30 bones on burgers and an appetizer in your restaurant and you are charging us each .60 for a squirt of freaking ranch in a little plastic cup? I am usually not so critical as generally something is forgotten and we are only human but too many little things equal bad service. When I do go back I will be ordering a side of ranch and letting them know that I am not paying for it or they will need to bring out the manager.

Hit up Burgerama last night...can't beat $4.99 burgers and fries. Split the BOA and the Looziana, preferred the latter with the caramelized onions and special relish. Buns need to be toasted!! My Rogers Pilsner cost almost as much as my burger at $4.25, but a cold brew tasted so good after a trying day I didn't really care. Wait wasn't awful...about 10-15 minutes, but we also went a bit later (9ish). Burgers were mediocre, would never order them at full price but for $4.99 I was contently full until noon today! Oh and for the two girls seated next to us having the overly long and drawn out conversation on sex, your fellow diners don't care to hear about how kinky you like it or that you know it's wrong but you like to have rape fantasies...for the record honey, it is just WRONG.

The food here is decent, but I prefer to go here for a drink or two. The bar is great. Definitely a favorite for a weekend Bloody Mary. In years past I would have said the service was horrid, but it seems to have gotten much better, or I just don't notice it anymore. The pool tables are well-kept.

Really good burgers, fries and onion rings. Wednesday nights are $5 burgers, so it's crowded, but we always seem to get a seat right away and our servers are always friendly even when it's slammed. I suggest other week nights, it usually comes out to the same tab and it's less crowded. The bar has great character and reminds me of the Saloon in my hometown of Encinitas. We come here often for a quick yummy dinner.

I'd really like to give them 5 stars, but the service and prices are a little too limited and too high respectively. Nice bar staff, the brunch on the weekends is delicious (The 635 pile up is to die for.) I love the fireplace in the winter as well.

What can I say, it's the Deluxe, it's a Capitol Hill staple. Since moving here to Seattle 2 and a half years ago, this place has been in moderate to heavy rotation in my restaurant goings(even more so now that I live in Capitol Hill). I usually go with the Cobb Salad or Black and Blue Salad, either one might be the best damn salad I've ever had the privilege to eat, but if you're feeling like a little more substance, their selection of burgers and sandwiches offer something for everyone, even you vegetarians out there. They have giant baked potatoes too! Daily drink and food specials and two daily happy hours makes the Deluxe a safe bet. When in doubt or feeling indecisive, make it the Deluxe, you shan't be disappointed.

  • Adam L.

I used to live up in Capitol Hill and this was walking distance from my house. Great place for a beer and a burger - or just a beer :) . The service is usually above par and the food is too. Happy hour was very attractive a few months ago but I heard it has changed recently. Burger night on Wednesday is a great way to spend the evening although its popularity usually is very high in the summer, it's worth the wait and the price.

I am very thankful for friends with good taste on my hangover days. We stopped in after an decent night of boozing it up looking for some grub. I thought the look of the place, with it's tall ceilings and comfy booths was fantastic. Instant fan of the look of the place. I ordered a stuffed Kobe Beef burger and a large orange juice. The burger was very very good. Big as well. It was actually difficult to get a full bite of the thing. Still, the mix of the cheese and bacon stuffed into the burger made every bite a joy. I got an insanely large amount of fries with my burger as well. I couldn't even finish them. I really wanted to though as they were my ideal fries. Fresh and greasy with a side of ranch. Not to bad on the pocket either. The Burger-rama seems like one of those fantastic deals that would draw in a ton of people. I might try it again if my card align so I'm there again.

Yesterday was a Wednesday so I asked my co-worker where a good place to get a GOOD burger was and something clicked in her head and said "It's Burgerama!" I laughed. No no, she said, It's 5$ burgers up at the Deluxe. I said, not a Dick's Deluxe? No, she said, Its at the deluxe at the end of Broadway. Curious, and a lil thrifty, and really craving a burger, I had to check it out. The place was at capacity virtually (it WAS 5:30) and I was alone, so I grabbed a seat at the bar, the busy end! So I got to hear all the goings on at the bar, which was ok, everyone seemed pretty friendly, and I even saw the owner (i think) doing a lil dance to the music! Obligatory music review: Somehow they found the balance of volume that you can ignore the songs you don't know but clearly hear the ones you don't! And the music was totally good. Nothing out of the ordinary, but good balance with the ambiance. Anyways, service was a little slow (even at the bar) but they were slammed, so that was coo. I chose a beer from a good variety, Paulander Oktoberfest, delish. To my supprise they had simply taken their entire burger menu and discounted it to $5! I ordered the Pepper Bacon Tillamook Cheddar Cheese burger, which came with lettuce, tomato, onion and a side of fries. perfect. A drink order was mandatory for the deal, but I got out of there for a penny over $9! (not including tip) That's the scoop, everything was great, must have been why it was so full! And they have pool! Have to come back for that. Cute end of town too! Cheers, -AK

Go for Burgerama on Wednesday evenings (anytime; this isn't a Happy Hour thing). $5 burgers. Easy enough to run into friends here too, the casual atmosphere is perfect for a relaxing evening. Other days the food is excellent, service is speedy, and the beer's tasty. We've even had success with medium-sized groups (~8) for celebrations.

One of the best veggie burgers in town. Not necessarily the burger, but the onions, lettuce, tomatoes and sauce. Really good onion rings & side salads too. Heck of a HH with food and drinks on sale. Professional barkeeps and 2 nice pool tables in the back.

Full menu until closing....crowded but not so much that people intrude into your aura...good prices...good seating....good location...food is decent, I get a baked potato and salad...tho I noticed they have a monte cristo, so Ill have to give that a run next time I am in.

Like others have said, the $5 burger-and-fries (with purchase of a drink) on Wednesdays is an awesome deal. The burgers aren't your standard burger-with-processed cheese, either - there's ones with sauteed onions and cheddar, and another with bacon and avocado. However, for this French fry lover, the fries are not that great. Merely so-so. But when you're getting a burger for $5 (with a drink, but let's be serious, you'd buy a drink anyway), you can't complain. I especially can't complain about the fries, because I never order the burger special on Wednesday (or any other day). Instead, I get the cobb salad. This is one of the best cobb salads in Seattle - it's huge, and there's tons of bacon and cheese and avocado and grilled chicken and tomatoes. Yum. Wednesdays (the only day I go, since my boyfriend loves the burger special) are typically very crowded - but I've never had to wait more than 20 minutes for a table. And the servers I've had are great. Finally, the Deluxe has a great beer selection. Yay for Dogfish Head IPA and Manny's and Roger's!

  • Phillip S.

While I haven't tried everything on the menu, that's just because I found my favorites and I stick with 'em! By far and away the best dish at Deluxe is their mac 'n cheese dinner (or appetizer if one isn't quite as hungry). It is a sinfully delicious splurge that is best shared since a) it is huge b) it doesn't make for great leftovers. Also, their happy hour specials (drinks and food) are very reasonable and tasty. I tried this restaurant after a few bad experiences at Broadway Grill and I haven't turned back since!

This is a great easy going neighborhood spot, especially on BURGERAMA! Wednesdays! I went tonight, sat at the bar, ordered a $4.99 burgerama special and an IPA and it was $10. The bartenders were super friendly and cool - I got an IPA tasting of 3 different beers to help me make my IPA beer choice. Also learned about their awesome happy hour. I'll be back, for sure!

Completely decent food (though probably a dollar or two a bit too expensive) and really close to my apartment, so it's a nice default place to go to when you want generic burgers and beer. But like Angela W. said, why would you settle? I've eaten here twice, the first time I had the sliders (passable) and the next time was a reuben. Now, the reuben is my favorite sandwich, and if a restaurant can't get their reuben right, in my opinion, the rest of their menu won't be worth it. The reuben here was made out of slices of corned beef instead of strips n chunks, and it had very little sauerkraut. Nope! Moving on. Also it was very loud at 9pm on a Tuesday night. Not a great place for conversation. edit: Came back and had the salsa verde chicken fried steak; freaking fantastic. Even if it was served with the boring old unseasoned veggie medley everyone seems so intent on serving you in Seattle. Also had the mac n cheese, with bacon and ham. Also fantastic.

I have eaten at DeLuxe several times and finally feel compelled to Yelp about them. There food selection and quality isn't the best on the hill but it's still pretty good quality and very consistent. I typically go for dinner and enjoy their burger a lot (especially on burger nights) and stay away from their chicken usually (dry and blah). Fries are pretty good here and I almost always get the nachos to start. They are pretty basic but that's how I like my nachos (I am white, afterall). Their salads are only average. Today I had breakfast there for the first time and rather enjoyed it. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the 'crispy hashbrown bites' are tater tots. The toast was super crispy and seemed like it was cooked on an open flame, which I loved. Omelet was better than average breakfast places. Considering the lack of selection of American cuisine on the hill, this place is one that is affordable enough to go on random weeknights and consistent enough to know what you're expecting when you walk in the door (unlike other places in the neighborhood).

We had our first lunch at Deluxe bar and grill today! I cannot believe that after eleven years in Seattle, this was my first time at Deluxe. I had the Swiss and mushroom burger, my partner the Broadway and Roy. They were both really good, among the best in Seattle, and the place is so close to where we work! On a side note, we enjoyed but did not find super our appetizer: the Calamari were a little dry and hard (maybe overcooked? That can happen, no?). Our server was really nice and I am looking forward to going back.

Deluxe is a fine restaurant with an impressive number of beers on tap. The chicken club sandwich was good but not great. It is served on a rather thick bun...making it hard to eat. This is unfortunate because the contents of the sandwich were delicious. Crushed garlic on the french fries and a mellow vibe made lunch here very enjoyable.

Burger-Rama! No, seriously, they have Burger-Rama on Wednesday nights, however there is not as much pandemonium associated with Burger-Rama as one might hope. The deal is all burgers with fries are only $5. Ok, it's $4.99. Actually, pay attention to that and pay attention to the fine print, you also must order drinks to participate in Burger-Rama. Uhh ok, fine, if you insist. The burgers. Eh, they are ok. The burgers are made from frozen beef patties and they don't bother warming up the bun. An average burger at best. During Burger-Rama you can't really complain about this, however if I were paying $9 for my burger I would not be happy, not at all. That said, the bartenders are amazing!

Trying to find a parking spot around Broadway can be quite a nightmare, but we like coming here to have their tasty burgers and hang out with our friends who work here. The bartenders are good at suggesting creative drinks and they have a broad selection of cheap appetizers after 10 pm. The macaroni and cheese here is delicious, I think it is made with three or four different types of cheese, including blue - great for cheese addicts like myself. The service has always been fast and friendly.

Fantastic neighborhood bar, good late night menu, affordably priced.. One of the best deals going in the city as far as holding an event. I threw quite a few private parties in the pool room and all they asked for was to rent the table and have a minimum food order. They do a great job and I miss living around the corner from them.

Ordered three burgers to go, had to wait a few minutes which is fine, it usually means the food will be hot. WRONG! Room temp soggy fries, one set of fries was all ends and broken bits. We had added bacon, mayo and no onions and they did all that, but put the mayo on the side. Fine if you are eating in the restaurant but to go orders? Can't put mayo on in the car. That was the last order they get from me!

  • Steven N.

Burger-Rama! I'll second Michelle B.'s Wednesday night Burger-Rama! review. Decent burgers (I had one with mushrooms, swiss and grilled onions) that I would have probably complained about if it was $9. But heck.. for $5 w/ fries I really can't complain too much. As Michelle notes - you have to order a drink to get the Burger-Rama! deal, but ice tea or a soft-drink counts as a drink in this case, so you don't have to spring for an expensive cocktail or beer if you don't want to. Note to Ice Tea drinkers - these guys have some fruity variation of regular black ice tea. Personally I like my restaurant ice tea of the regular black-tea variety.

I liked the atmosphere of this place a lot. It has that old timey feel because it is old; one of the oldest things on the block I believe. Being a tourist I didn't know that until after I'd already been there. Very tasty food and drinks. Will definitely go back here with my buddy Jeffers the next time I'm in Seattle again.

Rainy day pool hall or summer night people-watching. Wednesday night is a deal deal deal with $5 burgers -- arrive early, though -- it gets kwazy. Deluxe is ever-so-slightly on the pricey side, but you'll little care when you're toasting your socks on the little fireplace and sipping a hot toddy before heading next door to Harvard Exit for your French flick. Lush score: Big thumbs up Good booze, sexy bartenders in tight black shirts. And the chalkboard above the bar has the liquor names written out in their logo fonts -- IMPRESSIVE. The Manhattans here are HUGE -- two will knock you over. Veggie score: Yum You can get any burger made with a boca patty -- try the blue cheese one. Also: good nachos, giant stuffed potatoes, all manner of experimental veggie foodstuffs on the apps menu in particular.

I have been here off and on for many years. It is an old mainstay and I am never disappointed, nor overly impressed. Good burgers. Service is okay. Place is kitchy, yet dark. Perhaps a little too dark. I had trouble reading the menu it was so dark.

The place is nice, good tables and all. We got seat right away as soon as we walked in. The food was pretty good, can't complain with prices, ordered some wine as well during happy hour. Only the bad side is they did not serve water even though ordered for ones. We all forget every now and then, I understand that but hey, it was too late to remind the waiter when finally checked on us because we were done with plates and wine by then. Beside, normally many of us need water when ordering wine, anyway.... So no water for the night, that's okay... will give them other chance to go back later on and see.

Lots of options for brunch. Food is diner-ish nothing fancy - just good ol fashion grub! I'm a chicken fried steak Nazi so I gave it a go here... Not the best (steak was tough) gravy and biscuit however was very good. Hubs had the smoked Cajun scramble - just ok as well (not much Cajun spice just andouille sausage - I think they need to rename this dish) service was swift and atmosphere was great - ask for a table near the back so you watch Football while brunching. Have not been here for din din or happy hour but the menu looks promising. Hope I have deluxe experience the next time I return....

First off: this is a good place to come after a horrendous movie at Harvard Exit; I'm sorry, but I should've known not to see it after the Stranger gave "A Serious Man" a thumbs up review. Anyway, all that mess aside, let me say that the drinks are very good and they have excellent seasonal options. The crabcake appetizer was delicious; the calamari was quite good, and the chicken tender appetizer was horrible. Chicken was overfried and not a whole lot of meat. This place is alright; I'd just stop in for crabcakes, but probably not much else, concerning appetizers.

Hah! Speaking of onion rings...I was *just* talking about you, Deluxe Bar & Grill. I had not been here in over a year, then visited here for lunch (first daytime visit) last week. The staff, as they always have been, are nice, nice folks. We ordered some lunchtime drinks - first, they dont have grape lemon drops anymore ;-( that made me very sad. But the server suggested I try their Lavender Honey Collins. Awesome call for a 1pm-sunny-day-on-the-deck kind of drink. My friend (who loves beer) ordered the guiness and champagne. No, I'm not quite sure either, but I dont drink beer. She had one taste and really didnt like it. When the server returned, we told her it was "icky" and the server said it wasnt for everyone, she didnt like it either! She replaced it with a guiness. Very nice service! Then my friend and I proceeded to eat like idiots. I hadnt eaten breakfast yet, and she was already on lunch. I suggested she try the mac n cheese but she wanted onion rings. she got both. I had the all day breakfast. Then we shared everything. Like I said, we ate like idiots. The server said she wouldnt judge. Breakfast: not bad, but totally normal. Bacon maybe a little overcooked, eggs were fine, toast was cold. I ate most of my friend's onion rings. Onion rings were awesome. Seriously. And the mac n cheese is still creamy, yummy, big portion, and still good on the microwave reheat later on ;-) Of course we'll go back. I really like the deluxe. But I'm hanging on 3 stars and will rewrite when I go back at night. It's not fair of me to rate these guys for breakfast when they aint a breakfast joint! So I'll go back for happy hour and maybe on fish n chip night...and will likely be giving them four stars :-)

Deluxe doesn't even deserve one star. We decided to try Deluxe for breakfast (they serve breakfast on the weekends only) and was totally disappointed in the food and service. I a basic breakfast - scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage and an english muffin. The sausage was horrible, it was cooked in a steamer and had no flavor and was chewy. The english muffin was stale. My husband had the Pile Up and ordered a side of sausage gravy. The cooks at this place obviously have no idea what sausage gravy is supposed to taste like. The gravy was bland and tasted like reused Alfredo sauce. In addition to the terrible food, our waiter was rude. When he brought our bill, we asked if we could split the check and he grabbed (yes grabbed) the check out of my hand and complained about what an inconvenience it would be to do that. I've never been treated so poorly at a restaurant. I will not be eating at Deluxe again.

New Years Day, my posse and I decided to brunch here. You did get that, right. New Years DAY! That's right. I actually somehow pulled myself out into the world and walked somewhere. It was amazing and I've got to say, a great start to 2009...hangover and all. After being seated, we all ordered a very fair amount of drinks. Because one of the homies was on constant parch, the waiter got his fill of exercising running back and forth pouring glasses and glasses of water. He should get some major props for all of that effort guys because let me tell you, we were drinking like camels. The monte crisco came out a little burnt. After having been raved about on the way up, I was disappointed to hear that my girl wished she had ordered something else. My salmon sandwich was ok but not to die for nor to venture out of the way for. I did spy some other orders that I may be back for but nothing I can't vouch to say that it'd be worth it. One major selling point however was the service. Our waiter was not only diligent and intuitive but he was FUNNY! And by gawd he thought we were too. It helped that we had Scott K. and Julea with us of course. There's nothing better than good people, good food and a server who is willing to not only be flat out awesome but add some humour to your meal.

How I love good, cheap brunch. $9 for bacon, sausage, eggs, hashbrowns and a bisquit w/ gravy! Call 911 cuz either I've robbed the place or I'm about to have a heart attack from all this yummy goodness. I've never ventured in Delux for breakfast before but as my friends and I were on our way to the usual spot we decided to see if Delux had breakfast.... SHO-ENUF! Table for 4 please. Well prepared, food was above average and the service was fast and friendly. I'm a fan for sure.

Tick...Tick..Tick, ..Tick, Tick............. BOOM! The fries are bomb. They sat a group of 7 of us at 9pmish on a Friday- no wait! *This review was brought to you by my chihuahua: Tyco (tick, rubert, dude... depending on the day)

It's OK. The food and service are average, but I love their location and atmosphere. Wednesday burgerama is a decent value, but again the burger is just mediocre (taste-less) and expect to wait a while for a table and again to get your food. Happy hour is probably their best quality, but I'm a lush and will use any excuse to drink.

Seated at 5:40pm by *two* servers (we'd asked to be switched to the bar vs on the aisle near the bathrooms and a family of 4 with a baby - when the restaurant was empty), we were brought water and menus. The bartender was quite jovial and nice. The waitress seemed a little offended that we didn't like her seating choice. And by a little, I mean "Gave Us Total BitchFace" the rest of the time we were there. =P We quickly decided what to order as we were on our way to another appointment at 7pm. Our waitress proceeded to flirt and laugh with regulars at the bar, play with her Blackberry, and patently ignored us. Jovial Bartender guy was holding down the bar...and that was it. Ten minutes later, Xav bounced. I waited and tweeted - wondering just who I'd pissed off at Deluxe recently. I listened as the older woman seated just after us ordered her drink *and* asked questions about the sliders on Happy Hour. At 5:58pm, a new server approached and asked if I was doing okay and if I was waiting for someone. I explained that no, I was leaving, and that my friend had already left because we'd been waiting a while. I thanked him and stated that I thought it was a shift change issue. Xav thinks they were running down the Happy Hour clock so we'd have to pay full price. I agree it's possible, but also that the current shift could have been stalling so that they wouldn't lose out on a tip to the next server. Either way, it's a total dick move. I won't be back.

The Deluxe is basically a non-chain Bennigans/Applebees but with all the non-chain goods such as a great craft beer selection and decent food. Burgerma Wednesdays is usually the only reason I come here. Again, great craft beer on tap and decent burgers for $5?!? Can't be beat! The burgers wont blow you away but for the price and overall quality, it's a great value. Pair it with a nice cold pint and you've got a hit! Yes, service is mediocre but what do you want for $5?

Every time we have been there we have had great food and great service. It is a seattle institution on the hill. It has been around over 50 years and there is a reason for that!

I love the happy hour menu at DeLuxe, and the beer menu is great. Nice pool table as well. Service is slow so make sure you go with someone that you can sustain a long conversation with.

I like the Deluxe - especially for happy hour or meeting friends for drinks (which I do depressingly less often these days). I want to like it more, since it's a "institution" and has nice atmosphere, but there's nothing all that great about it. Again, don't get me wrong. Never had bad service. Never had bad food. Drinks are always poured right. But I've never been wowed by anything here - and it's not that cheap (happy hour excepted - where the bargains are terrific). Definitely a reliable "pub" like place if that's all you're looking for. Just don't expect any wow factor. Kind of like that girl you kept dating for some reason sophomore year in high school, and then after you broke up, you weren't really sad, but you couldn't bring yourself to say anything bad about her. That said, you did have some good times, right? Better than that other crazy beyotch who wouldn't stop calling. And this was pre-Facebook, so she was all over your locker, leaving notes, etc. Brr. Speaking of high school - I just noticed this was my 69th review. Is it childish of me to laugh?

A good solid place to hang out for happy hour when you're on the the north end of Broadway. It's nothing fancy, and it's not really anything special, but it's a nice place to hang out with friends, have a burger, and relax. (I really like sitting by the fireplace in the less nice Seattle months, so October through apparently June. They also have patio seating, which is kind of fun. Lots of people watching to be had!) Deluxe is reliable and cozy, like an old pair of shoes that aren't pretty or worn often, but really comfortable when you do. Overall, good stuff; pleasant staff, decent food (great HH bargains), clean and cozy. Things to order: burgers, chili cheese fries, mac'n'cheese.

The bartender would not serve me unless I said please for my drink. I refuse to believe the bar does me a favor by me spending money here. My friends and I left. What a rude bartender.

My husband and I parked at the end of Broadway, by Roy Street, and just walked around looking for a new place to try. We were blown away with this lucky find! Seriously, don't know why there are bad reviews here. Our waiter, Will, who also bar tends and told us he does a mean Bloody Mary, was great. Friendly, fast, funny. I had the Fiesta Burger with the in house made veggie patty, it was moist, huge and delicious, and homemade fries, hot and fresh, not soggy, real potatoes. Try the fries with their spicy ranch dressing. My husband had the cold cut sub, again, huge and he said delicious. They have specials each night, very reasonable, Sat and Sun Brunch till 3! 2 pool tables, friendly neighborly kind of place. We saw 2 big groups and everyone seemed happy, drinks and food fast. Maybe I should say we were there Monday night at around 8. Try it!

The mac & cheese is very good, and very healthy! (Only half of that statement is true...guess which half!). The atmosphere was nice, the prices were decent, the service was fine. They have beer, though I didn't partake. I'd go back next time I'm in town. And this may be my shortest restaurant review ever!

This was my first visit and a good experience. My eyes were bigger than my stomach so I ordered quite a few items. I didn't realize it was happy hour so that was a bonus. Anyway the fries were amazing. I also ordered the pull pork sliders, the waitress noticed I had not eaten much of them and asked me what my what my opinion was or if there was anything wrong. I was super impressed by that. That's the way to run a business, if people aren't quite digging what you are serving, find out why. They were not by any means terrible just a little bland. I was really happy with the fried mac and cheese and my yummy fries with bacon. The bloody mary I was washed it all down with wasn't too shabby either. I noticed the people at the table next to me chowing down on burgers that they seemed pleased with. I'll be back for sure at least for a huge plate of fries. The next time I'll get the works.

Traditional pub style atmosphere but very new looking. They have a good happy hour menu and decent specials. There is a good beer selection on tap, innovative cocktails and "beertails", and a sizable choice of american style food. I love a place that has good burgers but also good mac & cheese as well! The prices are pretty average for a place like this but they have happy hour specials and a deal on Wednesdays. I came here for happy hour and tried out some appetizers, since they were half-off. Although the sliders aren't dressed up at all, the burger was cooked well and tasted great, making me anticipate their regular full-sized burgers. The fries were seasoned and came with a nice tartar sauce blend that included, maybe pesto or something, I don't remember off-hand. I've had better mac & cheese but I still thought it was really good. The service was very friendly and pretty quick. I will be back here soon on a Wednesday to try a burger and fries for $4.99 with a purchase of a beverage!

One star for the most horrible and most racist service I've ever gotten. I went on a Wednesday which is $5 burger night with a couple of my close gay friends, both of which have had decent service from the server in question. Erin/Aaron, not sure how he spells it, was the rudest most horrifying server I've ever had. He was so rude that I ended up speaking with the bartender/acting manager about him and she had comped my friends and I dinner for his attitude. Also, he then went on to claim that I "made a comment about his sexuality" and called him a "faggoty bottom" which wasn't true at all, and entirely got away with treating me so badly. Never going back, servers and management are jerks! Also wanted to add that i've been banned from this location based on this review, which was ultimately not my fault, but the fault of the flawed management team. Said management team based their decision of how to treat me on a lying manipulative server (Erin) that made up a story about how I called him something ridiculous, simply to cover up his crappy service. Good job, not coming back, neither are any of my friends.

The happy hour menu here is pretty great. Super cheap food and decent portions. The quality of the food is nothing spectacular... just typical bar food but if you're hungry and don't want to blow a lot of money this place is a worth while stop. They have a lot of comfort style food, which I absolutely love on a cold or rainy Seattle day.

    (3)
  • Jen L.

My friends loved this place for breakfast, easy and not too crowded, but it is not as crowded because it is nothing out of the usual, its a typical bar and grill. I think they have some good happy hour deals, and is not crazy expensive. Can be good for a larger group and they are dog friendly at the outside tables during summer.

I like my bargains just as much as the next person. So when I heard I could get a good bargain on a burger at Burgerama, you bet your pretty penny I headed right over to the Deluxe on a Wednesday night. $5 for a big ol' burger loaded with fixings like bacon and avocado? Please and thank you! Even if you're not a meat eater or not there for Burgerama, the Deluxe offers other staples that you can depend on that don't leave you dreading the bill. Personally, I've never had to wait for a table even during peak hours, although I may have had to wait for a refill. If you're looking for a laid back, reasonably priced restaurant the Deluxe may be just the ticket.

  • Lisa B.

My review is based on the brunch. Coffee was good, egg scramble was dry and lacked flavor in spite of the chorizo sausage filling, tater tots were fine (I've always had a soft spot for those). The only thing I'd come back for was the biscuit, which was fluffy square of crisco-y goodness. Service was attentive and I didn't have to wait for a seat.

My boyfriend and I got lost looking for where he parked our car. Not surprising since he got drunk afterwards. It took us over an hour to find it when it was really a 15-20minute walk away. Anyways, if it hadn't been for getting lost we wouldn't have stepped foot in Deluxe. So, there's always a silver lining. :) I ordered a cup of their chipotle corn chowder and half a cobb salad with chipotle ranch (I really love chipotle, what can I say?). Both were insanely good, especially the corn chowder! My boyfriend ordered their fish bahn mi sandwich and had a cup of the soup as well. Plus, a beer of course. We both were incredibly satisfied. Seattle is filled with such good food! I never wanted to leave. The only thing I'm bummed about was that I was feeling under the weather so I couldn't try one of their cocktails. They all sounded so good especially their vanilla orange cocoa. Next time, next time...

Been here multiple times because I just can't get enough of their Fuego Burger! Avocado, caramelized onions,, chipotle mayo, jalepeños.... how could you go wrong? Yesterday went in to get the usual & to my surprise it was Burgerama Wednesday! = all burgers are $5.95 w. a purchase of beverage. (Depending on your server you can still get the deal w/o a beverage) Even without the discount the prices are standard so if you're looking for a good burger this is definitely a place to check out.

  • Matt C.

Oh Deluxe Bar and Grill, you could have been a solid 4.5 stars with me, since your food is well above average and tasty, but I'm subtracting 1 star for the condescending waiter who lectured us on how to split or not to split a bill, and how much harder it was for him when the bill wasn't split to calculate each person's total. You get another star subtracted for adding on 18% gratuity to a party of four adults and a baby. I understand the baby technically made us a party of 5, but I think he may have figured his tip was going to be paltry due to his attitude and tacked on this charge to up his tip total for the day. You may have good food Deluxe, but so do half the restaurants in Seattle, so please make an effort to want me to eat there rather than driving me away.

  • Adine L.

HOORAY FOR FIVE DOLLAR BURGERS! Wednesday Burgerama is the reason for the four stars. I agree with Alyson: nothing special but a great deal! It's sometimes hard to get seated and there is usually a wait, especially on Wednesday nights. But if there is room at the bar you can sit there right away and a lot of people do. I think for the overall experience, I can have a better burger at Fatburger for around the same price, but I love the dark interior at Deluxe. They pour a pretty stiff well so it's worth the drive and the wait to sit leisurely and enjoy a mediocre burger :)

  • Liz M.

This is one of my family's common haunts on Broadway, given its close proximity to Cornish. It's standard American bar/grill fare with all the usuals you would expect. Pretty much anyone can find something to eat on their menu which ranges from burgers and salads to mac and cheese and fish tacos. I'm partial to the fish & chips myself. They have a full bar with a creative line-up of drinks. I've only ever had a lemon drop here but it was delicious. Besides the dual happy hours, the best thing about Deluxe is its Wednesday Burgerama where any burger (except the ones made with kobe beef--no surprise there) + fries costs $5 with the purchase of a drink--which doesn't have to be alcoholic! And instead of Pepsi or Coke, they serve RC cola which makes for an interesting variation. The service has always been friendly, although it can be slow if they're busy.

    (4)
  • Matt R.

Don't go here if you're straight. It's like reverse discrimination. Service will be crap- servers will give you attitude and the wait at the bar will be long. Booze there is extremely over priced and the food was below average. my Hendrick's martini was north of $12. What a joke. They have pool but expect a long wait. This place sucks.

I haven't been here for over 20 years ~ I don't know why, but I'm definitely going back sooner (like real soon). Their mac 'n cheese was creamy, their garlic fries were crisp and not too garlic-y (which was good!, especially since it was lunch time and I was going back to the office...), and all their burgers could be swaped out for a Gardenburger (I had the grilled mushrooms and swiss, but substituted with provolone) (they have no problem with substitutes). It was difficult to decide on what to have because everything on their menu looked so great. The server was friendly and it was a great experience overall. ~ 4/5/12

I thought I'd take my wife and our toddler there for dinner. After our experience there...I'm surprised both of them still love me! Quality of food and service were terrible. We ordered "salt & pepper calamari"...it was basically like Gorton's Squid Sticks or something insipid like that; just breaded and flavorless didn't taste either salt nor pepper! It couldn't have been more processed! We also had the Caesar salad that's basically smothered with bottled dressing; my wife ordered the prime rib sandwich with au jus...tough meat! I had the Kobe burger, suppose to be medium rare; well, only about one square inch of it, the rest was dry and overcooked. Fries were lukewarm and soggy. I felt bad for our toddler the most, we ordered the chicken strips off the kid's menu for her...she normally loves chicken strips but she pushed this one away after a couple of bites. We discovered why, it was--not exaggerating-- like boiled leather! It was dry, fibrous, and had some terrible charred taste to it! Child Protective Services is gonna come after me for that abuse! All these after more than a half hour wait for our food to finally come. And the service was so erratic, they kept forgetting to get us things like... utensils! I asked for Tabasco as soon as my burger arrived but they didn't bring it until I've already eaten half of my burger! Bottom line...can't recommend this place, definitely a "no repeat" place for us.

I was only here for a few so I can only say that I ate, and liked the Chipotle quesadilla and drank a damn good Cucumber mojito...then I was out. But I'll be baaaack for a second run & hopefully try out their menu because it does look like it kicks ass...mmmm (food not a**)

  • Alissa K.

The burger and the veggie burger were both really good...tasty fries too. The ambiance leaves a little something to be desired (diner meets Applebee's), but overall, a decent experience. They have a large variety of beers on tap and the prices are reasonable. Someone drew a dick on the bathroom graffiti chalkboard with LeBron James' name in it. Bonus points for funny clientele...!

My husband and I came here for the weekend breakfast and ordered the seafood scramble. The portion was generous, though I thought the scramble wasn't the best - the seafood pieces were small and not of the best quality. The homefries (which they called "hash brown bits") weren't very good, either. However, the price was low - around $10 - so I can't complain too much. I got what I paid for and left feeling full!

I came here last week with a friend. we ordered the mac n cheese "Italian style" (w. prosciutto and ham) and two burgers. I really appreciate that the waiter told me the coffee wasn't very good and stopped me from ordering my cappuccino. The mac and cheese was good but too salty. the burgers were good not amazing, but good. Better than any others that I've had on Broadway. They had a list of scotches on the wall, so I tried the Bowmore neat. the drink itself was good but the poor was very weak. I'll definitely have Bowmore again, but never again from here. All in all a nice place, laid back, good hangout spot since they have a couple of pool tables in the back.

Deluxe is always busy on Wednesdays for their ever popular Burgerama. A half-price ($4.99) treat on burgers and fries selection if you order it with a drink. WHY GO THERE? "A Capitol Hill Institution Since 1962." TM Really? The phrase is trademarked! I kid you not. I've been to Deluxe for happy hour, but I didn't hear of the burger craze until a friend who left Seattle posted a status on how he missed Burgerama! So on Wednesdays, I sometimes ditch my guilty pleasure of having a Dick or a Jack. Hello, Deluxe! WHATCHA GOT? I either go for the Peppered Bacon & Cheese Burger, Fuego Burger, or BBQ Burger. Instead of fries, a cup of soup can be substituted. So are salad or onion rings but for extra fee. Are they good and filling? Yes. Is the service consistent? No. So why 3 stars? Three reasons: (1) It's a sit down dinner, not comparable to hotdog stands or Dicks. (2) Decent burgers, drinks and good value for the money on Wednesdays, not comparable to Broadway Grill. (3) Great location, a local business and not a chain, not comparable to Dicks or Jack or Robin. It will be four stars if service is consistent. Wednesday is not the place to be if you're in a hurry. YOU GOT SERVED. With never-ending lines for tables, the staff here seems to have red bull in their veins on Wednesdays. They're courteous when I dine early, but a bit hurried when I go there late and the line long. When they say you have to walk a mile in someone's shoes to understand before you criticize them, I will not walk in their shoes. It only takes one rude, impatient customer to ruin a waiter's day that will affect all else. Seattle has as much type A personalities as there are coffee shops. Come on, don't be a princess expecting red carpet treatment for a $4.99 meal on an uber-busy night. I want your table! :P

I've been here twice now on my way to or from the Harvard Exit (right around the corner), and I am quite enchanted! Their half-off Burgerama Wednesdays will now have to compete with newly-opened Blue Moon down the street, but I've been more than happy with the Bleu Cheese Burger. And those fries! Delightful. The menu seems a little off-kilter, but in a great way: burgers and baked potatoes make up the majority of the menu, but the drinks and desserts are extravagant (house-infused syrups and creme brulee? Yes please.) The beer selection is vast and ever-changing. Also, pub trivia. This is one of the more relaxed and fun places to grab a bite and a beer on the north side of the Hill.

Midnight Hunger Pangs? NO FEAR! Deluxe Bar & Grill ready to serve in the wee hours! While the rest of broadway decides to close their kitchens (thank you! or else i wouldn't have wandered in here!) Deluxe is ready to feed you! The happy hour menu is good. Ordered a cocktail and it was too sweet. Will stick with beer next time. Best fried Calamari I've ever had! must try. Beef Sliders? dry. sausage? yes! Will crawl in here again

A good place to go for a drink. They have good drinks. Dinner? Hit and miss. Breakfast? Super long wait and hit and miss food... Location is convenient to me though and I find myself coming back for salty bar food and a strong mixed drink.

I have to say I'm impressed...... I haven't been in any rush to eat here due to the 3 star rating.... Went for breakfast on Sunday. Me and the boy. We got there before they opened (only by a few minutes). Checked out the menu and it looked vast and pretty reasonable price-wise. Breakfast drink menu had good prices - mimosas & bloodies for less than $8! Score. I had the Broadway and Roy - because it allowed me to taste a little bit of everything. I knew it was going to be way too much food - but it was still a good deal at $8.95. 3 eggs, 2 piece of peppered bacon, 1 piece of sausage, tater tots, 1 biscuit with sausage gravy..... plus I ordered toast AND a fruit plate. All of that, plus what the boy ordered, a friend stopped by for a side dish and 2 coffees for less than $30 (w/o tip)! I'd NEVER knock Glo's, ever.... but we can't get out of there without spending well over $40. So for all the food, the decent quality and the low cost, I'm a fan. Plus, I liked the decor and the service wasn't too shabby either!

Burger-Rama Wednesday: bleh. Nothing special, or good. A friend of mine came here a few weekends ago and got really sick after eating their burger. Since there's so many relatives to that situation, I disregard it. I don't care if you offer a special $4.99 burger and fries for your special. Cheap, but no good? What's the point. The bun wasn't warmed, and our burger was served to us cold. Eh. Drinks: Tiny little glasses that look like they should be candle holders, and the drink wasn't even filled HALF WAY - and there was ice in it. Rip off. The drink was cheap, but again - what's the point of being cheap if it's no good? I'd have to order a quad drink to get what one normally gets elsewhere. Last time I came here was 2001. No thanks. Way too many venues to spend my hard earned money at. I really feel ripped off with the stingy, weak drinks that were the size of Spanish espresso cups. Then again, I'm not attracted by price. I'm about quality. Their version of mac and cheese: $1.75 fried balls of mac and cheese inside. Not my favorite. And it wasn't good. Why the heck was everything served cold to us? Cheesecake Factory also serves this, but their portions are larger - and of course, quadruple the price. Wasn't happy with the service, but whatever. I don't know if I'd be happy WORKING here. Meh. Cheap place for drinks and food after 11PM. I'd rather hit the hot dog stand with a flask then come back here.

If I eat some where and have a bad experience 5 times, then they are black listed. The Deluxe has been put on that list. This place is mediocre at its very best. On one visit I was seated next to the fire place which was roaring away. It was so hot I was a sweaty mess by the time we left. When we asked if we could be moved the waiter ignored us. I have been served fish and chips that was not cooked all the way through. One piece was also 80% breading. It was mushy and disgusting. I've ordered the pork sliders there and not even made it down the block home before I was puking sick. I would rather eat at Dicks Burgers then here. At least you get what you pay for there.

Deluxe used to be one of my favorite nighttime haunts. A buddy and I would work from 9 am or so until 10 pm on a Friday night and then head over to Deluxe for cheap appetizers and discounts on the burgers. Over the meal we would discuss work, life, love, culture, and happiness (seriously!). Back then you could get a lot of appetizers at a discount and the portions were huge. But like a lot of places the last couple years the happy hour menu was cut down and portions were made smaller. The chicken strip dish was one that had very noticeable shrinkage on the happy hour menu. All in all the pricing is fair (happy hour or not) for the location, the service is usually decent or good, there is a lot of places to check out in the vicinity, and it usually draws a cool crowd. But whereas Deluxe used to be a destination for me now I only check it out if I am in the area.

I worked here in 1975!! Yes! I am still alive. OK Much has changed as much will change anywhere in 35 years! I go eat there from time to time just to appreciate and ponder about change and time. It is a popular area, so parking is tricky. I always find I am seated easily and friendly staff greet me. I feel like it is a bit dark - it always was. I appreciate the better food choice and quality. i go simple cheeseburger. it is fine - not always as gourmet as I woudl make it but fine.

After spending 3 or so hours there on a Friday night, I left ridiculously unimpressed. Deluxe, why do I diss thee? Let me count the ways. 1. Someone in our party order nachos. They never showed. He later tried again by ordering nachos a 2nd time, an order which got burned in the oven. Finally, after another plate was made up, voila. Apparently, with nachos at the Deluxe, the third time's a charm! 2. My baked potato lacked cheese (a serious infraction in my book!) despite the menu's tease of pepperjack as an ingredient. 3. My bf was given another random patron's burger, which he couldn't detect until he bit into it finding blue cheese where there should have been none. The waiter came by to track down the rogue burger, yet he didn't offer to take it back to the kitchen OR give my bf what he actually ordered. 4. 3 beers had to be reordered because they simply never showed up after actually ordering and waiting for them. All in all, I'm betting this place is ok, but I think we must have met up with a server having an off day. There are so many places to have beers and bar food in Capital Hill, I can't see the point of ever going back there.

I can now vouch that the mac and cheese is amazing! The fries are not too great, though, especially when you order the loaded ones with bacon and cheese but they come out plain. Oh, the disappointment! One tip, ladies: If you go to the bathroom, make sure you bring your cell phone because if if the main door and stall doors are opened at the same moment, you might all get stuck in there for hours unless you can call for help. Maybe bring some trail mix, too.

best classic style burger ive had in a long time. i was seated within a matter of seconds. it was during the late afternoon. service was fantastic tessa was an amazing waitress with the most polite, down to earth attitude. burger was my highlight of the restaurant. the bun was perfectly proportionate to the meat. perfect amount of tomatoe lettuce and onion. cheddar cheese melted to the right amount. with this special sauce on both buns. couldnt ask for a more perfect amount of flavor ratio in every bite. i could not put my burger down. but with every few seconds of a break from this delicious classic burger for a great price, i was able to dive into the most crispy home cut sliced fries. there must be some seasoning that entisifies the flavor of these mindblowing mouth watering fries. i couldnt have enjoyed my meal more with the crisp water glass provided when seated and a nice unsweetend ice tea with a few packets of raw sugar. i seriously want to eat here very often definitely a favorite.

Love the Deluxe! Far out on the Burgers and fries for me! and Brunches are the bomb. the fireplace is awesome. and they have espresso. and its cozy and not too loud, and they play current music in back ground. very casual type place, without pretentiousness.

  • Lanny K.

Two words: cheap burgers Two more words: On Wednesday Several more words: this place was fairly desolate for a lunch joint with such a bomb special for the day. (don't get me wrong, I know why they'd do it...hump day business is sluggish! I was in DECA. I know how these things work) ANYWAY - $4 burgers! FOUR DOLLAR BURGERS! I've been on a four dollar boycott lately, but this is an exception. Four dollars for a meal is a FREAKING GREAT DEAL. And it wasn't a crummy meal. It was nothing I'd freak out about. I might stop in on another wednesday, but I'm not going to make any special attempts to make a stop in. MINUS ONE STAR for the rancid ketchup. Yeah, I noticed. You know that when you 'marry' the bottles of ketchup, it ferments? I can tell because it's got bubbles in it. And it's gross. Stop doing that.

I have more bad things to say than good about Deluxe Bar & Grill. My biggest complaint is the horrible service my friends and I received from the moment we walked in. I could ramble on about our frustrations with the staff there for a long time, but in a nutshell, the bartender was rude and unfriendly, and when ordering food we encountered people who wanted to hand us off to other waiters and bartenders rather than take the order themselves. This place was not worth the time and effort. The one good thing we experienced there was the cheese fries appetizer. Still not worth going back for though.

Love that they have a daily happy hour. Went out for drinks on Sunday with a group, some of us ordered food, some did not. The gratuity was included, but that didn't bug me like it sometimes does because our waiter still earned it. Overall, good happy hour & great customer service.

Came back and it was still mediocre. Had the Salmon Caesar and it was like the salmon threw up the dressing all over the leaves. Just messy, nothing really consistent... perhaps, I should struck out twice. But maybe note to self, do not come back here. Ha.

The food at the DeLuxe is about what you would expect - decent burgers and similar fare. They have two pool tables, so it can be a nice diversion if they aren't busy. With so much competition in local burger joints, I can't give them a higher rating, because the food is just average.

  • Will M.

You know the service is great and so is the atmosphere. I happen to really love their cheap happy hour food so I've came here a lot. I've also eaten here a few times for dinner and breakfast and I've always left with a full belly. Yet each time I ask myself why I keep coming back? The hamburgers are not all that great. I certainly think they do breakfast better. They do have an interesting Chipotle Ranch sauce that I'm in love with but that is about all they have going for them in my opinion. I don't drink so I usually get some sort of soft drink and I have never ever gotten a glass that didn't taste watered down or flat. Also for some reason they use plastic cups and that is just bizarre in Seattle. Basically, this is a great place to hang out for late night happy hour, but I wouldn't recommend it for much else.

This is what I like to call "Fancy Fast Food" They serve all your American Favorites for a couple bucks more than what its worth. :) I had the Veggie Burger - meh. It honestly reminded me of the burgers I had at my Elementary School cafeteria as a kid. So, thats a 2 star rating for that. Not only that but the bread. This is what really threw me off. The burger bun was your typical, cheap ass, grocery store, pre packed, white bread. They don't even make the effort to grill that shit, come on! It came with a side of cream of celery. Sounds weird and gross right? Well, it IS weird and gross. From the taste to the thick texture, there was all kinds of strange and wrong to that soup. Too much cream, under seasoned, bland taste and looks and moves like Elmers glue. Now comes the fries and onion rings. These guys saved my overall meal. OMG those onion rings were good and those fries, with the skin on, aww yeah! If it wasn't for these, I'd be giving this place 1 star? Anyway, they may not know how to make a good veggie burger and soup but they sure know how to make onion rings! Deep fried with a well coated, even, crispy batter. The french fries were pretty damn good too, they add garlic, salt and pepper. Comes with ranch and tartar sauce. Just don't take too much time eating them and worrying about looking like a pig, these guys get cold fast and there ain't nothing great about cold, soggy fries. So overall, come for the onion rings and fries. I hear their mac and cheese and baked potatoes are good, so go for those! The waiter? Had an attitude and was never around when you needed her. No tip for you!

This is the place that I always hang out on the weekends. I have been enough that the bartender knows me and my friends, (she is super awesome!) I normally go for their late happy hour. $5 per hour of pool is pretty sweet along with 1 dollar off domestic beers. I have yet to go on Wednesday for their burger special but I'm gonna rectify that this week. The food overall is pretty good, I've ordered the nachos, chicken wings, and onion rings a couple of times and they have been good. The only reason I'm taking a star off is because there are only two pool tables so sometimes there is a long wait for them. But if you go when the table is free it's a great place to just chill and hang out.

WTH! Where is The Deluxe? We went to same location, I have been going to for 25 odd years, and yet something had taken its place. There was a restaurant there, it was called The Deluxe, but it was most assuredly NOT "The" Deluxe! We ordered; beers, burgers, a salad. 15 Minutes later we got our beers. 5 minutes later the food showed up, including the salad, which should have come first and yet we still did not have napkins or utensils. My burger, allegedly on the rarer side of medium was well, my partners, medium was well, well. There were 5 tables with people at them, it was after lunch. There were 3 staff members, 2 ladies and 1 twink, cute as his was, his server skills blow. All of them were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Terrible, just terrible! I don't see us going back again. Which is sad :-(

I ate there quite often as a student (the school is a couple blocks away). The happy hour super nachos are incredible, considering the price. Also, every Wednesday is Burgerrama. Sweet deals on most of the burgers. The customer service is kind of hit or miss, from my experience, but I enjoy eating there from time to time for inexpensive and filling food. -Jacob

The breakfast on 1/1/2012 was really strange. I guess they ran out of hashbrowns and used tater tots instead. I love tater tots but I guess it would have been nice if the waiter was like, "oh, hey, we ran out of browns and you're getting tots." Oh - I just looked at the menu online. "Crispy hash brown bites" are offered with breakfast. I guess that's a clever way of saying "frozen tater tots from QFC."

Food was good and our server Drew was incredibly nice. On the other hand, the woman who was bar-tending tonight (5.1.10), was incredibly rude, and overworked. She was so customer unfriendly! We go to the Deluxe about 3 times a month, and this women made tonight, a bad experience, that will keep us away from the Deluxe for a few weeks - at the very least. Who needs attitude from the bartender - really not necessary. It's called the service industry, as in customer service. Maybe she should learn some of it.

After a absolutely *HORRIBLE* movie viewing at the Harvard Exit, my friend and I decided we needed a beer and some food... STAT. We sauntered in and sat at the bar, and our bartender for the evening greeted us quickly. We each got a beer, and ordered a couple appetizers and they were delicious. We split the chipotle quesadillas and the sliders. Both were tasty... the chipotle spicy yummyness was my favorite. Everything seemed fine, however, a woman who barely looked of age, was clearly intoxicated (she told me it was her third time in that day) came and sat down next to me, and then started to hit on me. Yeah, drunkness hitting on me? Rad. So I gave my date an awkward "Let's get out of here, please" look and he nodded, and we were on our way. Granted, everything else about our experience was good, but someone that is obviously intoxicated shouldn't have even been served.

Man, oh man. My friends and I love Deluxe with all of our hearts and souls. The food is incredible and the drinks are fantastic (though a little weak). The only thing this place could really improve on is the speed of service. It feels like everybody at the table is often in need of the server as they don't come around very often at all. Oh, well. Doesn't stop us from going there. :) Just a smidge aggravating.

I have been to the Deluxe several times now. For breakfast or for dinner and drinks. Most of my experiences with the staff, specifically, the waiters and bar tenders have been poor. The bar tender was super rude, and almost refused to help me when I was clearly the only person at the bar... she was washing glasses and trying not to make eye contact. Waiters on several occasions damn near avoided my table. The food was okay most of the time. The last time I ate there, which will remain the last time, I had breakfast... that tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for quite some time. Everything was really dry and flavorless. I couldn't even finish it, I ended up getting a sandwich at a coffee shop near by. It's such a shame, great location for where I live and such a great lay out inside... yet not worth the money! I gave them several chances and they failed most of the times. Management needs to crack the whip!

Had a nice visit with a friend from the area last week. There beer selection is ok. I enjoyed a small tasting of the "life and limb" a collaboration between dogfish head and the brainchild of sierra nevada. I say tasting because this was an "8oz pour" in the smallest goblet I've had before. Instead of bitch, I just filled the space with a large burger with egg and bacon on it. I like this place, I would not say love for value sake but I can't hate on them just because I was only in town one night and didn't have a chance to explore their HH or specials. Next time....

Have spent a LOT of time and dollars in that joint over the years as a meat eater (now vegan). Went back last night with a friend while in Seattle. Still decent drinks on hand (had their scratch Manhattan), beer is spendy there. Food was okay, but no original vegan options. Vegans will have to get creative with the menu, ask for substitutions or ad ons. Deluxe did offer a garden burger which they said was vegan. I ordered it, skipped the fries for salad and tossed aside the gigantic bun of processed white bread and enjoyed the patty on its own with the spinach that was originally on the burger. I'd go back for drinks, not so much the food.

Apparently they are crazy busy on Wednesday nights, maybe I am unfamiliar to the area. We must've gotten there at the perfect time, around 5ish, because by 6 they were PACKED! Food was pretty good, looked like they had a decent happy hour & selection of drinks. I'd say prices were pretty average, service seemed pretty good. It's kinda small, but cute, probably pleasing for quite a wide range of people. Bathroom is super small! & they don't have toilet seat covers, but fairly clean overall. Be careful when washing your hands, I immediately pressed the hot button & stuck my hands under the faucet & got burned! The water actually gets freakin hot! & fast! No complaints, but nothing spectacular, will go back for further investigation and french fries.

My 4-star is the combo of a delicious "stuffed burger" which is the kobe burger with bacon and a lot of other things I can't remember. The burger was pretty awesome, melting goodness cheese with the bacon and the grilled onions. The fries were tasty as well! Also, 5 bottles of sessions for $7.50 is a good deal too. Haven't tried any other food or mixed drinks but I was digging the place on a beautiful saturday afternooon.

  • Sarah A.

I feel like everything good about Deluxe is gone. Their fries used to be awesome, now they're pretty bland. Their happy hour just changed so only a select few appetizers are included, which eliminated my usual option of the chipotle quesadilla. Their veggie burgers are okay... but just okay. The service staff is friendly, if not a little slow. They have a decent draft selection that's constantly rotating, but their mixed drinks are weak and generally unimpressive. We always end up coming back when we're sick of everywhere else, but regret it every time.

reviewing the bar only - see I really do want to like the deluxe as a place to grab a drink. It's close, has some atmosphere and history but every time I leave a little pissed off. It's not the service, exactly, or the tight quarters... it's just ... annoying? 'course I do keep going back.

  • Libby L.

Let me start by saying I've only ever been here for late happy hour, so I'm not a reliable source for info during regular priced times. I come here for the delicious comfort food, low happy hour prices, lovely atmosphere, but most of, the best drink ever: Black & Red. It's Guiness and Lambic Framboise and it's my absolute favorite. You have to get it at least once. If you want something less sweet, Black Velvet is good too. I've always had a pleasant experience here, servers are attentive even when it's busy, never have to wait for a seat, music is good...My only complaint is that they got rid of their incredibly delicious mini mac & cheeses. The entree mac is alright but its a little daunting, the mini ones were perfectly portioned and they came with this sauce that I'm fully convinced was laced with crack. My boyfriend was wild about this place because he's a vegetarian and they do have a lot of options for non-meat-lovers, especially the hh tacos and nachos. While I've enjoyed nearly everything I've had here, the only food that disappointed me was the pulled pork sliders, not enough sauce.

I've been to Deluxe four times in the past few months; once as part of a large after-movie birthday party, twice by myself, and once with a date. I actually got the best service as part of the large party. I'm going to have to assume my host was a regular enough of a customer that they paid extra attention. Apparently the last time I was there, while they had three servers on, only one of them was over 21, so I had to wait for her to get my beer, even though I was sitting in the bar. I guess the bartender won't leave the bar to take care of customers. That's the bad stuff, what pulls them back up to three stars is the food. The burgers may not be the best in town, but even on a Wednesday, getting a seat is easier than Red Mill. Unlike Red Mill, you can get a beer or a cocktail with that burger. Yeah, they're not one of the swank cocktail lounges in the city, but they make a damn fine Manhattan. Unlike a lot of similar places in this town, they don't use frozen fries, they serve fresh, hand-cut fries, which I think really rock! Regular prices aren't bad, but their specials rock. $1.50 Session Stubbies, $5 burgers on Wednesdays, happy hours early and late, make this place a lot more reasonable, and makes the food taste even better.

Two very good (very, very, very good) beers on tap (Hoppy the Woodsman and Jive Espresso Stout) and a pair of greasy fried mac and cheese balls made it worth stopping in, but otherwise nothing here worth making a big deal over. A pool table, decent draught selection with seasonals make it tempting for a quick happy hour stop, and a sign above the bar noted that they make a drink with a house made ginger beer. Service was slow, but then our server was also the bartender, and he was really nice so all forgiven. You'll like it if an Applebees/TGIFridays sort of vibe is your thing.

Went here with a friend to catch up over dinner. I had an Alpine Hefeweizen and the Ahi Tuna salad. Both were fine, and our server was nice and prompt. There's nothing wrong with the DeLuxe, but I also can't come up with a compelling reason to go back, or a reason it was a particularly notable experience. Perhaps I'll need to check out Burgerama Wednesday to see what everyone is talking about, but otherwise this place is nice, but nothing completely extraordinary.

I went here for brunch with a small group of people and the waiter was really great about getting all of our orders straight and was funny and nice enough to split our checks up at the end of the meal. The music was good. It was busy, but not too crowded, and the food and drinks are delicious and reasonably priced. I got the Banger (ginger vodka and lime juice) for $7 and the Biscuit Sandwich with Pepper Bacon and Cheddar for $7.95. It came with a side of home fries and was large but small enough to finish in one meal. I had also been here a while ago and had a great meatloaf sandwich - total comfort food. Check it out!

The Deluxe used to be one of my favorite last night places. I can here frequently in 2007 & 2009 and LOVED their mini mac cheese. But over the past year, the food tastiness has slowly gone downhill. The mac cheese doesn't have that richness to it anymore, and the burgers now use pre-formed patties instead of handmade ones. It's really too bad, because their atmosphere, service, and hours are still great. I think management has cut too many corners trying to save money. Unless they return to their original, better recipes, we'll probably just go to Charlie's down the street the next time we need late night food. :(

OMG, this place rawks! Okay so I am biased in that I am a huge mac and cheese fan, and they have some of the best mac and cheese I have ever had. I mean, jeez, the "mini mac" is still almost enough for two, and it comes as one of the happy hour specials for a few bucks. I am scared to try the entree size....as that I may have just met the mac and cheese that I am unable to conquer and render an empty bowl. And they have some pretty awesome staff too....friendly and prompt. Thumbs up for Deluxe

Had a happy hour wedge salad and BOA burger. Salad was great, although the dressing in the plastic container on the side was kind of tacky for a wedge salad. Also the plate was kind of tacky for it as well. Burger was decent, no complaints there. Service was terrible. Huge waits for anything. Took like 10 minutes for anything you requested. Then like 20 minutes to get the check. Also, all the people waiting clogs the front so our table was being run over by all those people. Would go back, but would try other places first.

my new motto, FUCK THE DELUXE piss poor service that could give a rat's ass on their diners. brunch was fit for rat kings. and i'm sure even rat kings would regret it. i ordered the biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs. sound easy to make, right? not for these retards. the eggs were bland, unseasoned, utterly tasteless. asked the server if they could fire up another one and add some seasoning. the 2nd plate came back with hella seasoning, rendering the gravy into a big pile of salty vomit. the brain cells in the kitchen staff must equal our deficit. if you think serving plops of shit is acceptable then fuck you, deluxe. fuck you, indeed.

The nachos are insanely good here, they make the chips in house, they are always crisp and fresh, so yum. The fried mac and cheese is so wrong in such a right way. The baked potato options make this Irish girl insanely happy. The drinks are always tasty and perfect.

They generally have good burgers, but can be a little greasy. I really like their blue cheese burger or their BOA (Bacon Onion and Avocado). I really like their garlic fries which come with burgers. Wednesday's Burgerama special is good (get a drink and then the burger is $5) but it can be incredibly busy and they aren't exactly efficient. Service can be painfully slow. Their fountain soda machine seems to constantly have problems (either no syrup or an over load of syrup). I gave it three stars because the food is good enough, just know that the service can be painful and if you are hungry Deluxe is not the best choice.

One star for the drinks (good, strong, interesting) One star for the waitstaff (attentive) One star for the location (cozy, not overly loud on a Saturday night) Minus one star for the food (awful fish tacos made with what looked like fishsticks, bitter spinach salad) Minus one star for slow kitchen service (took my date half an hour to get his fish tacos after his starter salad) Overall, go for drinks and not the food!

I came here with a raging appetite as I had just gotten a tattoo over at Laughing Buddha and my adrenaline was still racing. My 2 friend and I were ready to eat, eat, and eat. Food: I got the Kobe burger which was absolutely phenomenal alongside fries, which were also delicious. The beef I ordered was medium and thinking back, I wish I had gone for medium-rare. Nonetheless, I demolished the thing within 5 minutes flat and proceeded to moan and groan in a food coma for the rest of the night. My friend got a simple cheeseburger and a Arnold Palmer (pretty tasty as far as those go) and the other the Southwest? burger. It was silent as we all dove in, which is always a good sign. Service: We were seated promptly, served our drinks, and our food came within 10 minutes. No complaints. Ambiance: It's quite dark in here and we sat in a rather small table near the fireplace so it was a bit too hot for my taste. The entire restaurant has a very "bar" esque atmosphere but honestly, I didn't really care. Price: Quite reasonable for the beef that I got, and the portions of fries are generous enough to make up for whatever markup they're slapping on the burger. Bottom line: Delicious food, especially when starving, but definitely not a joint to visit for a healthy-eating type of lifestyle.

A somewhat generic bar and grill type establishment, like what you might find in a hotel. Trying to be chic and hip, but with nothing original or with character. Seems like they do an OK business due to the fact that there is nothing better nearby. That's all well and good, but... the service can at time be horrendous, ranging from fake and disingenuous to indifferent to downright rude. One while waiting to be seated, one person told us to wait. A few moments later we stepped a bit into the bar in an effort to ask a simple question and were told to go back to where we were and wait. Following this pointlessly brusk interaction, another person came and seated us. Only a few minutes had passed before the first person came to our table and accused us of seating ourselves, something we never gave any indication of intending to do. Who needs this type of service? Finally, the Deluxe is one of those establishments that add a nice fat 18% tip onto your check if your party has a whole 6 people or more. Guess they want to make sure you pay for good service regardless of whether you get good service or not.

There is so much that is right about Deluxe. Year after year it remains solid. The sandwich menu is great, and I really like getting hot fries or onion rings that taste fresh. Deluxe is across the street from the self-important Poppy, but offers a more appealing Americana menu for my tastes. I also find the prices far more reasonable. This is also a restaurant that thrived on its burgers, which are never bad.

This was the first place I went to when I visited Seattle. I ordered the onion rings as an appetizer for me and my cousins table. When I got the rings and tried one. They were the most spectacular onion rings I ever had. I had a double bacon burger with fries. Everything about that meal was spectacular and I will highly recommend this place.

I loved this place from the minute we walked in! We were greeted and seated right away. Now. I only like going to crowded places because i think it lends to the experience. I also LOVE to people watch and pass superficial judgements on those around me! Free entertainment! Well at Deluxe, its all of the above! Crowded, but we got a table right away. Full of interesting people of all ages and lifestyles. Complete fun! They have a great drinks menu. Some new stuff and all the standards. We started off with the mac n cheese appy. Again, all of you that know me, cheeses is my personal savior! Love them! They have their own version of mac n cheese and its great! three of four types of cheese served piping hot and bubbly! The food is comfort food with a twist. Some great salads and fresh fish, even meatloaf. It was a bit of a task to park - as capitol hill is capitol hill and Broadway is Broadway. It seems there is something for everyone there. We will definitely be back to try something different!

Came here with a friend for happy hour, we were very disappointed in the chicken tenders, we sent them back twice-over fried, tasted burnt. How can you not make chicken tenders right?? The calamari was good as were the onion rings I did like the decor...the round booths were nice and big! Wait staff was friendly.

Deluxe stinks. NO really....it actually smells. Immediately when you walk in through the front door a wave of bleach, ammonia, and fried grease hits you. The fries are good, burgers are alright, salads decent. Nothing I have ever eaten here that I actually had cravings for has stayed on the menu. When my friends who are in love with this place want to meet at Deluxe, I think....'oh great...we are going to the smelly restaurant that has mediocre American food'. If only the mixed drinks were consistently strong!!

I really like deluxe. Esp when my FAVORITE manager is working. You'll see her if your a regular, she's got black curly hair i think she may be a mix ethnicity maybe asian and black? or maybe black and white iuno, regardless whenever she's on clock, the music is GROOOOVINNGGG!!! can't complain with half priced appetizers and discounted burgers. GO THERE DURING HAPPY HOUR, BEST TIME EVER. they have a full bar for those who like to indulge in some alcohol and they have sodas, iced tea (yum), hot teas, coffee, everything really haha we always go in a huge group because there's so much food u want but it's so big you know you can't finish it all. So we'll have each person order something different so each of us can mooch haha. the polynesian wings are YUMMMMMM and the quesidilla DROOOOOOOL the bacon cheese fries are a MUST! everything on that menu that i've tried is amazing! the only downturn is the service. We go in so often and in such big groups (5 or more) that we are usually recognized by the manager. Shes super cool. But sometimes, we'll get a server who's new or someone whos in a bad mood and it'll sorta kill our mood. But it's whatever. Deluxe hasn't let me down yet! (: yay and hopefully it never does

I live right around the corner and find myself at DeLuxe probably three or four times a month. The service is consistently good (outstanding, for the Hill), the food is good and not overpriced, the drinks are delicious, and they stay open late with a full menu until closing! I often bring visitors and meet friends here. My favorites here are the calamari and the mac & cheese (loaded with BACON!), and the burgers aren't bad either -- especially a great deal on Wednesdays, during Burgerama! Of the mixed drinks, the Plum Cosmo is excellent, and I could drink it all day (and then stumble home). I have only two complaints: they were having trouble with a distributor, so swapped out my beloved Ace Perry Cider for a Fox Pear Cider that is nowhere near as good, and their new chef took the Key Lime pie off the menu (as I found out last night). I can live without those things (since I can get both at QFC just up the block) so I'll still patronize DeLuxe on a regular basis.

Unfortunately I had high hopes for this place. The atmosphere is pretty cozy and comfy. I'd say about 2.5 stars. The food has disappointed both times. Service has been average. Let's say first time I went there was for brunch. Ordered the eggs benedict. Overall, I asked about the hollandaise sauce, the waitress said she wasn't a big fan of it in general so wouldn't judge the one they had here. I was curious if it was of the "instant" variety or homemade. She said it was made here. Unfortunately it wasn't that good, kind of runny and for some reason very spicy. It didn't bother me, but I could see how someone wouldn't expect a hot hollandaise sauce. Fortunately the waitress replaced my eggs benedict with an order of french toast, which was unfortunately disappointing. I decided to give the Deluxe another go and returned to meet a few friends for their "famous" burgers. Overall, it was sub-par and I wasn't impressed with the Art's Looziana deluxe burger. It wasn't hot, the meat wasn't very juicy, was cooked well done, I would dare I say, prefer a Red Robin burger? Maybe my expectations were a bit high for this place, but didn't strike my fancy. I could see how the atmosphere is inviting and there's a pool table and the staff was average.
