So...I love it. I go here strictly for the veggie burgers and to play a couple games of pinball and I never go when it is insane. Usually it is dead and that is the way I like it. I LOVE the California burger (sub garden patty) - it has blue cheese and guac! YUM. And they have waffle fries. I have never had a bad food experience here and would eat one every freaking day if I could. Pinball - wish it was a better game and they had another one, but I will survive.

Imagine this scenario. You've had a long day at work and all you want to do is have a beer and play a game of pool with your friends on a Thursday night. In walks some drunken troglodyte majoring in international conflict studies at UW. He proceeds to spill his drink on your purse and then laughs about it before passing out on a nearby couch. No thank you! Dantes is a great location but sadly it is a magnet for all the d-bags in the immediate 5 mile radius. It's much better on weekday afternoons. I avoid it during nighttime.

I loved going to Dante's when I lived in the U District. It's so cheap there, that place almost turned my roommates into functioning alcoholics.

Came in here to use the ATM. The bartender was really sweet and helped with my card issues. She also gave me a free soda to take with me. On Sundays, drinks are half off. Not bad!

I visited Dante's during a recent trip to Seattle because of my interest in Ted Bundy. The infamous serial killer was a student at the nearby University of Seattle and killed a number of young women that lived on campus. Dante's was Bundy's favorite watering hole and the murderer is believed to have stalked a number of women he first encountered at the bar. Bundy's victims were all physically similar: young, brunette women with long hair parted in the middle. Ted Bundy's murder spree would continue in Utah, Colorado, and Florida before he was eventually captured and executed. Surprisingly, there wasn't any Ted Bundy photographs or memorabilia on display at the bar. Perhaps the current proprietors of Dante's feel any Bundy reference would be in bad taste, but did let a documentary crew use the bar to film dramatizations of Bundy's early life. Bundy's crimes happened a generation ago and he has gone from a boogeyman in newspaper headlines to a legitimate part of American history. He was the first serial killer that gave authorities proper insight into the mind of a sociopath. I was staying in downtown Seattle but took an Uber across town and visited Dante's on a Saturday night. I could have ordered a bottle of Mickey's malt liquor (Ted Bundy's favorite drink) but I never developed a taste for beer. Mixed drinks made with Sailor Jerry were on special so I ordered a rum and pineapple juice. I gave up drinking soda months ago and ever since have had difficulty in ordering a mixed drink. In the past I would always pair my rum with Pepsi or Coca-Cola, but I followed the bartender's advice (he's the expert) and tried pineapple juice; it was very pleasant and the perfect drink for a summer night. I quite enjoyed the unique three-tiered layout of the bar. Located on the lowest level is a dance floor and DJ booth, and a back room with billiard tables, skee-ball, and pinball machines. Restrooms, the bar, tables and booths are located on the second floor, while the third floor features additional seating and a dartboard. If I were a student at the University of Seattle I might have also counted Dante's among my favorite hangouts. Two days after my visit Dante's was decimated by an electrical fire. I'm so happy I was able to visit the bar before the accident. Here's hoping they rebuild and reopen soon!

LOL Dante's - enough said. Drinks are weak which should be the best thing about a dive bar :( Otherwise, I like the layout of this bar with the upstairs & downstairs with large dance floor. They do host some fun events.

Oh god. Dive bar in U-District that wasn't really fun as an undergrad and definitely won't be fun after graduating college. Went there on some cypher/hip-hop night apparently and all the kids volunteering to spit were horrible. I mean kudos to you for being brave to do so, but that shiz was wack as hell.

Fantastic location! Great food and cheap drinks. The venue ranges from all types of shows and is open to 18+. Thursday nights have some of the best local EDM DJs in the area and even has been known to do giveaways including ticktes to large shows. I would refer anyone to Dante's! Pool Tables - Beer Pong - Air Hockey - Darts - Foosball and more!

My needs were simple: beer and pool before going off on the next adventure. We ended up at Dante's on an impulse buy. The bartender was a bit overbearing at his attempts to up-sell, but was friendly. After getting our beer we headed downstairs towards the pool tables, which I described as the perfect place to murder someone. Very dark and dingy and unless there was a party within the last two hours (which is how long they'd be open) they clearly don't go in the area very often. I counted no less than 12 dirty glasses scattered around the place, most likely from the night before. The pool tables were on par - very old and no attempt to upkeep them. We finished up our game and beer and went to close out. The overbearing bartender gave us the bill and told us to come back when we're hungry. Eat in a place like that?! In other words, he doesn't want us to ever come back, and I'm perfectly okay with that.

I can't say what it's like as a dance bar because of the rap battle going on. I was tentative at first but it was planed and civil. It was interesting to watch the different artists spew words on the fly with somewhat eloquence. The of them were low blows but some tapers had a lot of study in what they were saying. The bar it's self was good. Kinda dingy and dusty but they had foosball and darts and pool. I'd go back again to play or dance. The bar tender was good too. I asked him to make me something with Malibu and he there some stuff together that was really good. Muddled lime, Malibu, pineapple juice and jaeger. Well done.

Huge burgers! What the?! Totally unexpectedly delicious handmade patties! Great place for early morning beer if you're looking for an eye opener. Lol jk, alcoholism isn't funny. Aside from the food, the bar is a bit sketchy and sticky. But a nice accepting place that is chill for getting openly wasted in the middle of the day Also really nice people that are happy to help. Fast to respond to our orders

Went here last night with the hubby and we were asked for our IDs right away. It was a lot bigger than I thought and besides being "divey" it was pretty clean. The bartender, Chris?, was pretty attentive and nice. And the food was decent too. We ordered the U-Dub Dip and the Mushroom Cloud burger with straight fries and waffle fries. For beers we ordered Pyramid Hefeweizen and the Stardust IPA. The burgers were a bit too fatty and undercooked for my liking hence the three stars. I wouldn't mind going back but I may opt to eat first.

Place is pretty dirty and dingy. Every night seems like they try to be something new. Stupidest thing is their 18+ nights where they close off the majority of the bar to alcohol even if you're 21. Been there 3 or 4 times when we've been told "you all have 10 minutes to finish your drinks or go upstairs." The upstairs is less than half the size of the drink-free zone. Kicker is I've never seen more than six non-drinkers/18-20yr olds come. Literally alienating the only paying customers in order to create an area that no one comes to. Also when Frats/Sororities rent out the bar they don't post any notice or warning so again you come there with friends, grab a drink, and you guessed it... "you have 10 minutes to drink and leave!"

Started going to Dantes a little less than 2 months ago! Came in with a group of friends to play pool, and had a BLAST. I was amazed with how big it was. I love it cause you can go to different spots if you're not feelin' the people around you, and continue to have fun without some over the top drunk bothering you and the whole bar, hah. But honestly, what got me coming back (2/3 times a week!) is the CAJUN CHICKEN BURGER(obsessed) and how sweet/funny Angie and the staff is! Haven't had any bad interactions with the staff. Every plate there is very reasonably priced for the quality and amount of food you get- waffle fries for days! They have some great deals on drinks everyday, and are pleasantly strong. My suggestion would be to follow them on Facebook for weekly events. There will definitely be something going on that will catch your eye, no doubt.

Bad parking. Odd neighborhood. Not really set up for eating. Food was ok. Rueben could have used more meat, but tasted ok. Turkey in turkey sandwich needed to be less mushy. More baked or fried. The nacho pot was good. Not a good selection of non alcohol drinks. Wait staff was hot n cold with their attitudes.

Fake ID Meat Market for the UW Greek houses (because most of the GDI's don't have a car to drive here) Dante's is the quintessential college bar. Anyone over the age of 25 is an alum of the UW or friends of a current student. No other reason to go there. It has a great bar area, an upstairs and downstairs pool table, a dance floor, and a few arcade games. Great place for being super casual while you brush off your final exams, root for the Huskies, or just want to celebrate being young and free. The beer selection is average though they have some seasonal surprises. The food is all dive food, just enough to fill you up after a heavy amount of drinking PBR. Nothing to savor. The DJ is average, playing mostly top 40 or themed based depending on the day of the week.

So after my last visit here I thought I'd never go back. But after taking an all nighter flight home from Hawaii hubby & I were hungry for lunch and couldn't think of anywhere else we wanted to go for lunch. Looked in the Entertainment Book & saw Dantes was in there. I figured what the heck, give them one more try since it would be buy one get one free. Got there about 12:30pm on Saturday afternoon. There were very few other people there. We grabbed a table on the main level near the bar & were quickly greeted & served by Opie the bartender/waiter. Ordered a pitcher of the Ranger IPA that was the $10 special pitch of the day. He misheard us and only brought a pint. He corrected his mistake by not charging us for the pint. :) I ordered the french dip with a side of BBQ sauce & hubby got the fish & chips. They have hired a new kitchen manager since the last time we were there & the improvements were obvious. New better bread for the sandwich. Nice little reusable metal ramekins instead of disposable plastic ones. Everything was spot on! Hot & crispy fries. Ranch dressing that tastes homemade. Bathrooms still leave a lot to be desired but I guess I'll trade a pretty loo for cheap prices on wonderful bar food. p.s. saved the Entertainment Book coupon to save for next time since we got the free pint of beer.

Do you enjoy 50 year old dingy bars with terrible service? Then this is the place for you! The management is an utter joke and all good bartenders are gone (I am pretty much talking about Justin here). I was a regular here for over half a year and I can confidently tell you that 90% of the food is absolutely disgusting. Yes, they definitely do have some good drinks specials if you have an app for it, but I wonder why they would have them? It is pretty much the furthest bar from the UW (useful it you are a student) and you can still find as good of deals at other Ave. bars. Although my statements are true, a lot of my resentment towards Dante's comes from hosting events there. If you plan on doing this I warn you now, DO NOT DO IT. The management will screw you bloody. It's literally like Gordon Ramsay Kitchen Nightmares status when it comes to the management, I kid you not. Save yourself the time and heartache and have a good time elsewhere.

Great place! Love the split level layout, like three different places wrapped in to one. From cozy fireplace to open dance floor to pool hall. Service was great and friendly. Food was generic pub food, but not disappointing enough to drop my rating.

Dante's is fine but not great. They have amazing tater tots (which is great when you live across the street and need a late night snack but are too lazy to make one yourself), and their Jell-O shots are pretty good. Everything else was very average. A few times they've had a cover charge (for a band or DJ) which was ridiculously priced so I turned around and walked home, definitely not worth it. Call me cheap but I come here mainly for the tater tots and $2 rainier beer on tap.

I have no idea what this place is like after 8:00 PM, nor do I want to know. This has become a regular after-work cocktail spot for me. I usually stick to their Long Island Iced Teas, they are usually on special and 4 times out of 5 are perfectly blended and mixed... Not to mention strong, these are very generous pours. I feel like I get my money's worth when I come here. They have a better than average beer selection for a dive bar. I also like their food, it's pretty great for bar fare- They have burgers, sandwiches, snacks and even mini pizzas, which are awesomely tasty. My favorite thing to order here are the chicken wings- Not too spicy, but they have that great classic Frank's Red Hot flavor, and you get 8 to an order, and they are around 6 bucks. Can't beat that. They also play a pretty eclectic mixture of music in here, and the best part about Dante's before 8:00 PM is that it's basically dead for the most part, and almost completely void of dudebros and college students, minus the few that tend the bar there. I really like it here, although I have had a few problems with them charging my card wrong or double charging. I always tell myself I need to bring cash.

My favorite college bar. They have something going on almost every night to make it fun and entertaining every night. They have a few pool tables, a dance floor, darts to keep you entertained as well. My college days are over so I didn't have as good a time the last time I was there because it is a college student scene, but I'll always remember the the days I use to hang out here regularly.

What a disaster place. We were at this bar for the Seahawks-49ers game and they had only one cook and 6-7 bartenders. Ordered a burger and waited for two hours for my food while drinking their below average cocktails. A tall blond guy serving drinks had no idea what he was doing, I ordered Cuba Libre and he had to go ask someone to find out what he is supposed to mix. People were chanting for their food, I just felt terrible after drinking on empty stomach for two hours and walked out of the place in the middle of the game to grab some food from the Indian restaurant nearby. When we told them about their terrible management, the same blond guy threw our receipt at us. This was the first time in my life that I didn't leave a tip. I wouldn't go to this bar for any game day or any other day.

One of the most chill places to hang out in the University area. The first impression you will get from Dante's is that it's a lot bigger inside then it looks outside. It's actually 3 floors, woah! As you enter the front door they have seating on the right and the bar on the left. If you keep heading to the back you will see stairs that go up to the 3rd floor balcony and down to the basement type area. In the basement type area they have a large dance floor, this place is pretty hit or miss for dancing and you should never 'plan' on coming to Dante's to dance. Also on this floor they have a lounge type area with 3 pool tables. Some pinball machines and an air hockey table! If you head upstairs to the top floor they have more seating a pool table, darts and a foosball table. To finish this off, if you're looking for a great hangout spot that's super casual and don't mind a younger atmosphere you should definitely check out this bar.

For how slow it is, this is actually a great place. Great deals ($1 wells on Fridays), and the DJ played good music. Pool tables, dance floor and lots of space.

Dante's is a great place for a drink with friends on a Thursday or Friday night. The place has a ton of potential, unfortunately it's often watered down with the type of people who flood comic con and are contemplating growing a ponytail. The drinks are cheap and the atmosphere is friendly. I've only been over the summer but I assume when UW is in session it's flooded with girls with poor decision making which has never failed to show me a good time. Compared to Earls and other places you'd find on the ave there is a much friendlier crowd, more energy, and a lower chance you'll step on a syringe.

  • Robert T.

People may say that Dante's has such a fun and friendly atmosphere. But, if you're going on a Friday night you won't even make it through the door without meeting an employee who is anything but friendly. The doorman who works on weekends (a short blonde gentleman with a goatee whose name I don't know) is incredibly inconsiderate to customers. Every time I've been there he's been working the front door and he's been mean, disrespectful, and petty, towards me and my friends. He is an incredibly unpleasant person and gives off the worst first impression for this bar. The dance floor is kind of fun and they have cool Jello-O shots available but there are plenty of bars in North Seattle that you can go to without being harassed by the bouncer. Don't waste your money at Dante's. They clearly don't place any value on customer service if they want someone as rude as this man to be the first person you meet at their bar.
