This is the best sushi I've eaten anywhere, anytime! You feel as if you're coming home when walking in because everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Truly a gem of a place that I'm so lucky to have in my neighborhood. If you're feeling indecisive about what sushi to order, just leave it up to the very capable and creative sushi chefs (Dave and Alex).

Well, not the best Japanese restaurant in Seattle. Not bad. I give them props for having okonomiyaki on the menu but it was not that great.

Just ok and kind of pricey for what you get. Not too many options in the area if you are hungry for sushi.

I went for lunch and it was PACKED so i was excited that it'd be really good. But instead it was pretty bad service and very mediocre. I had sushi not any noodle dish or anything which my friend did and he seemed to like it just fine. I probably won't go again. I'd rather go somewhere better (mashiko's, chinoise on 45th, etc) for sushi or just to Maruta to take home.

Overall decent place. Their lunch specials are good. Go during Fridays, I think those are the best lunch specials.

I was really excited to find a four-star sushi place just minutes from my house, but this place just isn't a winner for me. The service was good and the restaurant is clean, but their menu was surprisingly small, and the sushi I did get either had no flavor, or was unreasonably spicy. Such a disappointment.

I heard this place was really good from coworkers. I always see it full during lunch time when I go make Starbucks runs to the one next door. I finally decided to go in since I was trying to get miso soup and they were the only Japanese place that came to mind in Georgetown, next to Maruta Shoten that was closing. The cook there (who is pretty cute) was friendly and pretty damn good cook. I ordered miso soup and shoyu ramen. Very tasty and not boiling hot when it's served like most Japanese noodle houses. There was a good portion of seawood and pork. It wasn't all noodle like some other places I ate at. I definitely would be coming here for lunch. If you are ever in Georgetown and need a good sushi place, this is the best place to go!

Meh. Ok, that's not totally fair. The "meh" just applies to the food. It's not bad, but as said by a previous reviewer: "it's not going to change your world", and although the fish is reasonably fresh, it's not excellent. However, what saved it from 2 star-dom is the fact that I had the most excellent service. Cheerful greeter who asked how my day way (not so good, but better when encountered with such chipperness). The waitress is awfully nice too, but it's very far from my house, and the lure of their tuna tataki salad (supposedly so good that people drive 50 miles for it) is not much of a lure for me... 'cause it's frankly not that good. Not to mention that the overall value of the meal ($42 with tax and tip) was really bad - I left slightly disappointed, unsatisfied and hungry. Meh. I'll take my Take Sushi over this join any chance I get.

Daimonji is well worth taking a trip south even if you're near other good Japanese places. They're a little hard to find, but the restaurant has plenty of room and the food is great. The ramen, teriyaki, and other lunch staples are good -- a small selection, but all tasty. I went for dinner for the first time tonight to get the okonomiyaki, which is only available in the evening due to the time taken in cooking. It's why the place was originally recommended to me, and I found it quite good too. (We had the original style for calibration purposes.) The sushi assortment sounded like just an acceptable way to round out the meal, but it turned out to be fantastic. Very fresh, high-quality fish, which isn't hard to find in Seattle, but the delicately cooked shrimp and octopus were perfect too. As others have mentioned, you get a slightly larger piece of fish on each piece of sushi than at most places. The tamago is on the sweet side, with a delicious, rich egg flavor. Highly recommended.

I had a very good experience here at Daimonji. My coworkers had said it wasn't the greatest place, so I kept putting it off. I got the special which included all of this, amazingly: *chicken yakisoba *edamame *california roll (6 pieces) *veggie and shrimp tempura All this for the low, low price of $9.95. And they threw in some hot tea and miso soup to boot. This was seriously the best valued meal I've had in years. It tasted pretty good too; it wasn't too greasy or hastily made. I would definitely say it was above average, a lot of variety for a great price. I'd come back. The service was also very friendly.

Not only is the food delicious, but the owners are wonderful people. If you go, try the Dragon Roll. So amazing!

I ate here for lunch a few times and always order the spicy tuna roll. The sushi chef is a friendly guy and the owner is a really nice woman. If you enjoy Japanese food I think you will like this place.

Hubs & I were craving sushi and ordered the Tuna Poke appetizer, Daimonji Chirashi and Salmon Don. The waitress/owner raved about the Tuna Poke appetizer, promoting it as their popular appetizer with good portions. Good flavor, but disappointingly small for $10. We hoped for better serving sizes for The Chirashi & Salmon Don, but their sashimi pieces were very thin and small. For entrees ~$25, we expected more than the appetizer serving we received. Still feeling hungry after our meal, we added a Chicken Yakisoba to our order, which was subpar and also small in portion. Come on, noodles are inexpensive! Overall, the dinner was very mediocre and sad. The nice owners, a young Chinese couple, provided friendly service, we just weren't wow-ed by their food for the $$$.

Went here because I had a restaurant.com coupon. The service was good, the food was good. It wasn't the best place but it is high on the list.

I'm tempted to give this place another star for being a sushi restaurant in Georgetown, but everything about this place screams "Good enough. Not bad. Not great. 3 stars." We came here on one of those group buy coupons ($15 off), and that brought to price down to a point that seemed about right. Without the coupon, I'd think this place was a bit pricey for what you get. What you get is a sushi place that's two steps down from high-end sushi bars, but only one step down in prices. We had a number of menu items including assorted sashimi, sushi, and a couple rolls. We also ordered a sukiyaki as filler. Fish was good - much better than kaiten belt sushi, but it didn't wow us. The rolls were decent, but the sukiyaki was probably the low-light of the meal. Not terrible, but I remember the meat was rough and tough to bite through despite being cut thin. Overall a decent meal, but anything non-sushi seemed "unrefined." Can't think of a better word to describe it. The service was great. It's apparent that the owners (who I think are a young Chinese couple) try their best to please their guests and make you feel welcome. The only small piece of advice I would have for them is to take it easy on promoting your business to customers who are already there. We must have heard some variation of the phrase 'come back and see us again sometime' at least half a dozen times while dining there. Fun fact - the woman owner used to be a teacher and put effort into making this place kid friendly. There are many things in the waiting area for kids (toys, books, etc.). Bottom line - ok sushi - ok non-sushi - a little pricey - good people

One of the best tempuras tasted in Washington; the batter is light and isn't soak with oil. The ingredients use there are always fresh. Staffs and owner are very friendly. Chefs are very accommodating with special requests and will work around your dietary needs. Love the lunch combination. For just $10.95, you get a salad, miso soup, rice, and two side dishes of your choice and the portions are quite generous! My personal favorite has to be the tempura and saba shio and/or chef choice sushi. Do wish they have more options with the drink menu though. They have brown rice available for their customers. Way to go with healthy choices!

Love at first bite! Not only is the food delicious, but Alex, the sushi chef, deserves a congeniality award -- he's very welcoming and super friendly. I recommend the Tonkotsu ramen -- the broth is silky, and the pork is absolutely delicious, rivalling the tastiness of my all-time favorite chashu pork at Samurai Noodle. I also love the poke salad, which is lightly dressed and a nice light start to a meal. The restaurant is located in a very unassuming strip mall in Georgetown, and there's plenty of parking. I can't wait to go back.

  • James S.

This is some friggin' good sushi! Probably the freshest I've had in Seattle. In a strip mall in Georgetown, the best thing you can say about the location is that there's ample parking The interior, however, is a pleasant surprise, and I wouldn't hesitate to make the trek for lunch or dinner. Just call ahead to check on hours. Our party of five was served for dinner on a Friday night by the owners, who were very interested in ensuring that we had a great experience. We did!

My husband and I came here for the first time with a restaurant.com certificate. We were eating pre-theatre and were the first customers of the night, so the owners gave us a lot of attention (but not too much). The place quickly filled, which was a good sign. We sat at the bar and chatted with Alex, the owner and sushi chef. Very friendly guy. We asked what he recommended and were very happy with what we got. We ended up getting a couple of rolls, including one not on the menu that Alex made for me, edamame, sashimi for my husband, and two desserts. The tempura roll was the best I've had and my husband said his salmon was perfect. We finished with mochi ice cream, paid, and left. Bill was maybe a touch more than I'd expected, but not bad. I'll definitely visit this place again.

I went here with a friend on lunch break and ordered 3 sushi rolls to share. We waited over 45 minutes and nothing came out. We had to leave or risk being late to work. On the way out the guy making the sushi says the order is ready and he gives us 10% off... Sushi was just regular, not worth the wait considering there is a much cheaper place less than 1/4 a mile down the road.

Since my last review, Stephanie and Alex have become our great friends, and their food continues to be wonderful. For a real treat, sit at the bar and let Alex indulge you in his best sashimi cuts of the day. This is a GREAT spot to dine if you drive in from anywhere south of Seattle. Just get off I-5 at Corson/Michigan and it is 30 seconds off of the freeway. Wonderful spot to avoid a traffic jam.

Not great. I went there today for my birthday lunch and ordered a rainbow roll. 1 single rainbow roll. It took 30 minutes to get it (there was no one at the sushi bar so I have no idea why it took so long) and the people I came with got served and were almost done by the time my food came. They even stopped eating several times because I had no food! There were only 3 other tables but the waitress didn't come back to our table at all to check in us or refill our water or ask if we wanted anything else. The food was not impressive at all! The tempura had ZERO flavor, I could have been eating any vegetable and would not have known what it was based on flavor. The rainbow roll came with 6 small flavorless pieces for $12. A few years back this place was great but in the last 3 times I've gone the food and service has been poor. I will not eat here again and I will not be suggesting that anyone else should either. When we were done we sat there wondering if the waitress was ever coming back with our check, she never did so we finally walked to the front. We asked to split the check on 2 cards and she seemed confused, charged one person half and then charged the other person the full check and we had to stand there waiting for her to correct it.

We drove for 30 minutes to eat here on Dec 26, after checking the website and Facebook for any notices about being closed, but saw none... but they were closed at 1220pm. Very dissappointed... this resulted in our going to CP Thai, and getting food poisoning.

Great food, expertly prepared, wonderful sashimi, excellent service. I was with a group of 6 people that had a quick impromptu lunch at Daimonji today and all of us really enjoyed the food. I had their chef's choice sushi plate. The freshness really did know my socks off. I highly recommend Daimonji it's worth the drive.

This place knows what they're doing. We went for a random weekday lunch while we were in Georgetown and sure glad we did. Service was amazing -- the owner is the sushi chef and he treats everybody who walks in as a friend; the appreciation they show to customers prove hospitality is not dead in America. I almost thought they were mistaking us for a couple of celebrities they were expecting for lunch. On top of the warm welcome, they gave us complimentary miso soup right off the bat. After drooling over most of the items of the menu, we finally decided on getting the lunch combo (salad, miso soup, chef's choice nigiri sushi selection / grilled saba mackerel, rice - choice of brown or white) and also nigiri salmon sushi (we ordered to share). The chef asked if it was our first visit (it was), and he gave us a special prime cut of salmon for the nigiri - which melted in our mouths. The saba mackerel was grilled to perfection (they marinate it overnight in a traditional salt rub) and the chef's choice sushi was not a medley of the usual California Rolls -- they were generous portions of a variety of fish including a buttery tuna that was amazing. The chef mentioned that dinner is really where they shine, which I can't imagine, because lunch was already through the roof. Triple thumbs up on portions, service, value, quality of food and atmosphere. Can't wait to go back for dinner -- the only real test is if the Chef will remember us!

I too had coupon from restaurant.com , and the experience was very surprisingly good, especially their food. It was so yummy, I don't think I've ever had such an amazing pieces of sashimi. their dinner combo was also very cheap. And is filling for a great price.

Wow! I am very impressed with this place. What a hidden gem in georgetown! Easily the best "fresh" sushi in Seattle. Things weren't precut or mixed; my friend and I saw everything right in front of us. No hidden ingredients, no surprises. Just deliciousness in our mouths. The quality of the fish is top-notch, they cut a larger than average piece of fish for each slice and the most expensive item on the menu is $22. The fish was fresh, wonderful sashimi, perfect vinegar level. Nice selection of fish, eel, toro. On quality alone, this place compare favorably to all the sushi you can get in Seattle (e.g., IMO, , I love Sushi, Blue C, Wassabi). Factor in the prices, and in terms of sushi you can have all the time in Seattle, this place is the best, bar none. Alex and Stephanie were great conversationalist, very knowledgeable, and attentive to our ever need. Highly recommended, and I will be going back frequently -more frequently than my wallet or waistline will appreciate, I am sure.

Daimonji adds a lot to the food options in Georgetown. The service is great, the atmosphere is pleasant, and the food is solid. A great place to go for good sushi, teriyaki, sukiyaki and tempura, or all of the above. The cost is reasonable. The places bustles during lunch, but I didn't notice a line.

I am addicted to the Tuna Poke Salad. The tuna is so fresh, like the review below, it really melts in your mouth. The food is quick, but brilliant. The staff is friendly. A great improvement from the previous owners. Maybe yelp can take down the old reviews from the previous owners ..... I think it would only be fair, since I've seen a huge improvement from the previous owners.

UPDATE: We went to Daimonji the other night with our 9-month-old baby. The staff and sushi chef went way out of their way to make sure all three of us had a great time. They showered our baby with affection (which he loved) and made him a special avocado and rice roll. They could not have been more welcoming. So great to know a good restaurant that is supportive of messy/fussy babies. This place has some of the best Sushi I have had in Seattle. The ingredients are fresh and the sushi is clearly prepared by someone who cares about what they are doing. I have only been once but I will definitely be back. I strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone who has been searching for a moderately priced sushi restaurant. I would also recommend this place to someone looking for a more expensive sushi restaurant. Aside from gyoza, my wife and I only had their sushi so I can't speak for their non-sushi items. Thumbs up for the gyoza. Not the best I have ever had, but good.

here's a hot tip, they're on restaurant.com and when you catch sales at restaurant.com you can get a $25 gift card for $2. I like to support my local restaurants and the owners are sooooooo nice. there's nothing wrong with it, there's nothing fab about it. everything is pretty standard. the tempura has a good batter going on. the sushi is all fresh. i'm not a huge fan of their black cod or saba shio though. You can get a bento for $20 which actually comes with a ton of food and offers a great variety to try different things.

Being a homebody, I never want to venture too far once I get home from work. Georgetown is close enough to West Seattle where I feel like that qualifies. I used to be a regular at this place for their lunch bento - a little bit of all my favorites - but noooooo.... It's under new management and the regular bentos are gone. I ended up getting a couple of a la carte items: chicken katsu, tempura prawns, sunomono salad and a bowl of rice. The items were okay but not great and especially disappointing when I had my heart set on many tastes in a big box. The boyfriend got some kind of omelette with yakisoba on top. Strange but alright. Unfortunately, I won't be back until they have their yakiniku stir fry and Asian-y pasta salad.

I remember coming here a little while ago. The food quality was okay. It felt like a very nice teriyaki shop with sushi vs the other way around. The owners were very nice and the service was prompt. There are just way too many good options in Seattle for me to come back to this place. This place was ok- a dime a dozen in Seattle. There are definitely better sushi restaurants more north in Seattle.

  • Roger R.

Took a large party here on Saturday night and we ALL loved our food. Owners willing to make any kind of sushi we wanted and everything was extremely fresh. Combination dinners big enough to share - for sure. Tempura was very delicate. My only negative is that I will have to drive too far when I come back - it's not nearby to me. But I will be back!

    (5)
  • Dean H.

I love this place. The Georgetown bento is the best. The sashimi is fresh and the tempura perfect. Oh...and the Gyoza is authentic dumpling style, not just deep fried. Very yummy. Price is my only issue, it could be a few dollars less, but if you enjoy good Japanese food you probably won't mind.

I came across this place starving for sushi in Georgetown. I couldn't have been more pleased with the Copper River salmon sashimi style, the soup was amazing and the hot sake although always cheap, it just seemed extra hot and good. I recommend this place to anybody and I will definitely be going back! My bill was $55 without tip but well worth it.

My buddy purchased a restaurant.com coupon so we decided to try out this place. Passed by it many times, but never thought twice about stopping in. The employees and owner there is pretty nice. Considering that this is a Japanese restaurant, I was expecting the portions to be small. But that wasn't the case, it was actually alot and fulfilling. Although, the sushi rice was a little bit dry, everything else was great.

This sushi restaurant is one of the better ones in Seattle area--I'm crazy for their Crazy Dynamite Roll! The fish were all fresh--and man they're tasty! Their chicken wings are a must have! But be warned, there are only 4 pieces, so grab one before others snatch it! Daimonji also has the best Agedashi Tofu--crispy on the outside and juicy in the inside with yummy sauce! Poke salad is also great! On top of that--the owners and servers are wonderful people--they truly care about their customers and want them well fed and satisfied. Their price is reasonable--so if you think it's expensive--try going downtown for double the price and not even as good quality as Daimonji's.

We ended up popping in here for lunch yesterday. Turned out it was the first day for new management (apparently). they gave us some free iced tea (although there was some confusion on this between the waitress and manager). whatever. super awesome good delicious food. i opted for the lunch combination special consisting of salmon teryaki and chef's choice sushi. both were fabulous. I was expecting less food actually since it's a lunch special, but they were not skimping at all on the salmon or the sushi. what a treat! They said they offer a lot more for dinner, but I'm not sure I'll ever get around to doing it. Mostly just because I don't live close, so I don't see myself going to Georgetown for dinner. I would certainly frequent this place though for lunch since I work nearby. It's not the cheapest place, but Japanese food never is. Enjoy!

Just had the Daimonji Ramen for lunch and it bumped this place up a full star. It's a bowl of deliciousness with a subtle, but rich broth, perfectly cooked noodles and pork that is so succulent and tender it provided one of those beloved and rare moments of pure gustatory pleasure.

Daimonji Japanese Restaurant (Recently under new ownership), a diamond in the ruff located in Georgtown, is my new favorite Japanese restaurant and sushi bar in all of Seattle! My other favorites include Maneki, Shiki, and Shiro's so I know what I'm talking about and the new Daimonji's quality and flavor on par with these ranks IMHO. Why? New owner Alex used to work in the seafood department at Uwajimaya and knows freshness and how to filet properly and it shows. Head sushi chef "Super Dave" is a 3rd generation sushi chef from Hawaii and resume trails from LA to NY and it shows! To further authenticate, SUPA Dave's auntie is the owner of my all-time favorite legendary Japanese restaurant Maneki! Enough said. Our first time at Daimonji was a week ago and got Shoyu Ramen and Pork Kastudon. It tasted "right" and authentic! So my wife and I went for our 2nd run last night (Date night). This time we were going to test their Sushi for flavor and quality and it to tasted "right" and authentic! Long story short, we went on sushi tour with chef "SUPA Dave" that lasted 2+ hours complete with sake and left feeling very-very satisfied! And the bill was half of what I would expect to pay at places such as Shiro's in Belltown. Next time we will try their sashmi as it too looked nice and fresh.

I know there are many sushi restaurant in Seattle. However what sets this place apart from the others that I have visited is the melted-in-mouth sashimi, the creative menu and service. Moreover, they have a back room with a big table which is perfect for private party, I love to go there for dinner with my girl-friends. Some sake, rolls and sashimi, what a wonderful girl's night.

I'm no expert on Japanese food - let me be honest, it's NOT for me. My boyfriend however was AMPED for Okinomi, so we went. The first time I got Yakisoba and I liked it. The second time, I got Okinomi. The Okinomi was okay but the sauce on it was so revolting I couldn't finish it. That's really all there is to say.

The sushi here is fresh and delicious, and the service is great. My only criticism would be the size of the Sockeye Sashimi portion - small for the price (but exceedingly fresh and delicious). The owners went the extra mile to greet and serve customers. They have pride in their work. My husband and I will return. I hope the owners succeed in this economy. There were only 3 tables filled (mind you it was later in the evening near closing), but people at each table personally told them they would return. The owners shared that it has been a bit of a struggle to make the restaurant float these last few years with the closing of a bridge nearby and the economy, and it was evident that they were putting their hearts into making this restaurant a success. Wishing them continued good luck...

I was really hoping to give this place at least three stars but nope! The service was horrible. I'm not sure if there was any communication between the owners and the staff. I went there with my family at lunch time, I have a 2yr old and a 4yr old who were very hungry they like soup so I ordered a bowl of ramen for them to share. Everything else we ordered came out on time but no ramen. After 15 mins had passed still no ramen the waitstaff were hard to get hold of no one was refilling out water glasses or asking if we were doing ok (no because my kids were starving and would only eat the edamame) finally we were able to flag someone down and ask if we were going to get out ramen. She said "oh did you order ramen? I didn't put in the order" at that time we just canceled it being that it was too late and kids were getting grumpy. We got up to pay and the owner was sorry about the whole thing. But my point is that follow up with your customers and make sure orders are getting out. She said that we could have 15% off the next time we come back buy I don't want to go back. At least the previous owners treated you like family here this place not so much.

We love coming here. After our second visit they know us and remember that my husband is allergic to corn, soy and wheat. They are always friendly, courteous and happy to see us. The restaurant is always clean and I think the portions are good. It keeps me full most of the day. I barely need dinner. We enjoy coming here. Also when I mentioned I was thinking about the special but didn't want the California roll they took out the fish and made me a veggie roll that was very tasty! They are very accommodating.

DO NOT EAT HERE! Went in with coupon for $45 we bought. Jennifer (the owner) not only refused to honor the voucher she pretty much told us too bad so sad. She never apologized to us just said we had to contact the company she is the one who signed the contract not us She accused the coupon company of scamming her that she never got paid... This is not true according yo the company If this is so why not hang a notice you are not honoring coupons?

Thanks to restaurant.com , I found this really cute place...a bit off the beaten path for most, but worth the trek. The sushi was really good. I have had some excellent sushi while in Japan and I wouldn't say this was excellent, but it was up there. Fresh (which is the most important factor by far) and presented nicely. The experience was authentic....the server/owner fully insisted that we try the ahi poke. It was good, but I could live on nigiri alone and be perfectly content.. I will go back, for sure.

I read some great reviews on this place and decided to check it out. We pulled up and at first I thought it might be closed. This was a Wednesday night and we were the only customers. I was a bit skeptical but I kept an open mind. The food was excellent. Very fresh and interesting. I felt bad for the owners who are understandably frustrated with the lack of business. Tough location, great place.

Average atmosphere, with nothing too fancy but the prices are moderate which is always good. The best part is the quality of some of the food, especially the rice which is exceptional. I really liked some of the noddle dishes they served as well as the miso soup is divine.

Seattle has countless sushi establishments in every part of the city. However what sets this place apart from the others that I have visited is the fresh sashimi, the thoughtful menu and the personal service. From the poke tuna salad to the qyoza and chicken wings and the variety of sushi rolls, one can not go wrong with anything on the menu. The sushi chef is so creative with his roll creations. Every time a make a request for my favorite pieces of hamachi and tuna, he always comes up with something new and delicious! The grill chef complements the sashimi and sushi with excellent okonomiyaki and chicken wings. On top of the great food, the waitstaff are always friendly and courteous. They are very personable and deliver quick service. On top of that, the prices are quite reasonable. If you haven't check this place out since the management change, I recommend you do so now before the word gets out, and it becomes impossible to get a seat! It's definitely one of the jewels of Georgetown!

Went here for lunch with a co-worker. It was okay, typical strip mall fare. I got my food 15 minutes earlier than my co-worker. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.

one word...okonomiyaki. damn that was really, really good. sort of a savory japanese crepe...better google it for a more accurate description. i'm surprised more folks didn't talk about it in their reviews. went with my parents and wife. shared 3 okonomiyaki, favorite was the one with an egg on top, yummy. i could eat another right now. ma said this dish is fairly tough to find at japanese places. i would go here again just for that, but the sushi was good too! in fact, i'm kickin it up to 5 stars for introducing me to a new yummy dish!

I like trying new places, so when a friend told me we were going to Daimonji I came here to see the reviews and it didn't look promising. But then she tells me that this place has a new owner and the sushi chef here worked at Chiso's. It was surprisingly really really good!.... The menu looked kinda small so I asked if I could have a roll with my favorite ingredients. He created one for me with all different types of tuna, and I had albacore sashimi OOO it was perfect.. melted in my mouth. This will run you a few extra bucks but Its worth it. I'll be taking my husband here!!

Alex knows sushi! I've frequented this place since he took over ownership and I've been nothing but impressed. The first few times we sat at the bar and didn't even order from the menu. We told Alex what we like and he made specialties from his amazing sushi brain! The music is a little strange for a sushi joint (80's hair bands) but the food is outstanding! Looking for some of the best sushi in Seattle? Head on down to funky Georgetown and enjoy!

So, I was working late when I got this sudden urge to eat some soosh, and not living near where I work, I had to do a search for "Georgetown sushi" and found Daimonji. Very glad I did. I thought the place might be a little spendy at first, but for the quality you get, it's a killer deal. I just wanted something fresh-- not as in "live" fresh, as seen here... youtube.com/watch?v=kB0D… --but as in tasty-fresh sushi that's never been frozen, and that's what I got from this place. I seriously could've chewed my Scallop with mine own tongue, it was that buttery of a texture. I paired up that scallop with a couple of Uni, which I don't usually order because the uni I've gotten at other places has been pretty chalky; but at Daimonji, no chalkiness whatsoever-- again, fresh. For "dessert," I had a roll of mackerel, ginger, and some kind of mint leaf (forgot the name of it) that made for a delightfully palatable flavor country. As for the atmosphere, very clean and decorative (but not gaudy at all). There's a space in the back for family-style reservations, and the men's bathroom was clean, which is always a good sign wherever you go. Very friendly waitress, who I think might've been the owner(?) Even the sushi-guy was all cordial. Very nice place. Taking my wife there for our next date.

We decided to venture out for dinner in Georgetown tonight and I'm so glad we did because Daimonji is just the type off the map sushi place that is a dream come true to stumble on to. It was our first time so we sampled several sushi rolls and few smalls plates and everything exceeded expectations. The staff was attentive and super friendly but the star of the show is the food. Yum!

This place is okay. Their A special is usually pretty good , but their staff is often rude or short with you, especially if you are ordering togo. I once went in during lunch to order the Sushi A togo, and the woman sighed and told me it would be like 45minutes (and the restaurant was only half full). When I said ok and went to sit down (i was having a crazy sushi craving), she kept telling me 45 minutes like she wanted me to leave... so I left and walked 2 blocks to the Japanese market Maruta and got some cheaper, just as good sushi without the attitude.

fresh well prepared fish, warm service, reasonable prices. while the sushi/sashimi don't compare to the likes of Umi or Nishino, this is a pretty nice neighborhood joint to satisfy your sushi cravings.

This is a small restaurant in the middle of Georgetown (Michigan and Croson). They have a good sushi bar and a daily special that is sure to fill you up. They always start you out with soybeans in the pods and a small bowl of soup. Today it was a vegetable Udon. The special was 4 kinds of Sushi, Tempura, Miso soup, choice of chicken or several kinds of fish, several small dishes of different salads, and rice. I chose Teriyaki Chicken and was not disappointed.

Yum! This place would be worth visiting no matter where in Seattle it was located. It just happens to be within a few blocks of my house makes it VERY worth walking to it a lot. Its not the best sushi out there but its not shaby at all. My edamame (soy beans) that started me out were great. The goyza that followed was yummy and had a sweet soy dipping sauce. It took a while for the rolls and the fried tofu to come out so I drank more Saki and tried to be patient. I don't know why Tofu takes so long to deep-fry and it was not even fried that well when it did come out. It was covered in a nice sweet sauce, maybe honey based I'm not sure. The rolls and sashimi were worth the wait! Fresh ingredients really set off the greatness of the food.

Service was no good and quality of food was just ok. I absolutely love the sake nigiri but got such a foul tasting piece of fish that I couldn't even choke it down. I would have informed the waitress but she was so busy that she never once even checked on us. We had asked her for some extra items when our food came but never even saw her again until we were ready to go. First time I've ever tipped lower than 10 percent. I feel bad for the waitress because she was clearly understaffed. I also observed a cook standing around and not helping at all. My date even noticed him pick his nose at one point. Not sure what he did with the boog but he never bothered to wash his hands. I will never return here again.

I like this place because they fill you up right. What they lack in quality they make up for in quantity, IF you buy a $13-18 plate.

Had a major sushi craving, so last minute my friend and I decided to visit this place for our first time. When we got there, they were cleaning up so we thought they were closing. They said they had been slow that day and were deciding to close early, but they insisted we still come on in! So courteous and sweet. We ordered a rainbow roll, a spider roll, and the eel roll. Out of the three, the eel roll had to be my favorite. I always get a rainbow roll at any sushi joint, but the color of my sashimi was kind of... Dull? Made me question the freshness. The spider roll was pretty good. Their rice is a little different though. It just has a texture that I'm not use to... Idk if thats bad or if thats just the kind of rice they like using. However, we received exceptional service. The owner gave us free fresh watermelon with our meal and gave us lots of attention. Our plate looked really beautiful! I will be back when I'm in the area and randomly want sushi. Forgot to mention that I was sweating bullets because there is no AC but there were a few fans blowing at us. We were the only ones in the restaurant so we were definitely getting all the air possible blown at us but if I ever need to go on a hot day again it will be a definite no-no. Also just cus I'm one of those people who get nosebleeds when it's too hot and stuffy LOL.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of sushi and friendliness of staff of this hidden gem along the Michigan/Corson street corriodor, that passes by Georgetown. I was greeted very quickly by what seems is a family of staff members. I was alone so I sat at the sushi bar after asking if they had Tamari (gluten free soy sauce) which they gladly did. The sushi chef, Alex, was very helpful pointing out specials and fresh offerings that are not on the menu. I ordered my usual faves, Sake (Salmon) Sashimi and Unagi and a roll with Salmon in it. The Sashimi was fresh and delicious and well cut, the Unagi was rolled with avocado which was a nice touch and the Salmon roll had a special leaf added to it that tasted a bit like plum which added a unique sweet and unusual but pleasant flavor to the usual roll. The sushi chef prided himself on adding these special touches which I appreciated. The green tea was freshly made and was endless and free which is the perfect accompaniment to the salty sushi. I will definitely be back. Only 4 star because the ambiance was a tad lacking and very cluttered and not my first choice in decor. I would definitely go there for lunch and seek out a more dressy place if I was on a date with my man but all in all a great place that should have been packed at noon.

Very fresh fish and beautifully plated! I always just give chef Alex a lil guidance and leave him to create whatever he'd like. I have never been disappointed! He remembers every one and his wife Stephanie is lovely. Friendly customer service and I'm happy to fit great food into my short lunch break. Free miso soup and tea. So far I've sampled numerous nigiri, rolls and poke... all delicious.

One of the precious few places to satisfy my okonomiyaki craving and thankfully they do it justice (I grew up in Japan and miss the commonplace serving of said dish)! The service is most excellent (Kudos to Alex and Stephanie for being genuinely interested in their customers). The tempura batter is light and crispy and each type was perfectly cooked, especially the shrimp, yum! If there was anything I can say needs improvement, it would be the sushi. Don't get me wrong, it is good. However, I am spoiled by authenticity lol and frankly will go elsewhere for it. Other than that, I LOVE the place, the atmosphere, the people and of course the food. Oh, and I would also like to add that they are wheelchair accessible, as is their restroom, so yes that's a major plus for me and for anyone else who may be checking out the reviews who need this type of accommodation.

My husband purchased a restaurant.com coupon for Daimonji. As he told me we were going for dinner, I decided to yelp it and read some reviews. I have to admit it was quite discouraging. I went without high expectations. We arrived early around 5:15PM. I got the sukiyaki, spider roll, gyoza, and Saki clams. Don't judge. I was hungry. My husband got the Daimonji chirashi bowl. The gyoza came out first. I could tell they weren't handmade. The filling was mushy just like the gyoza you buy frozen and prepare yourself at home. Although I would have to say the Hispanic man that prepared them did a fantastic job frying them. They looked beautiful and had the perfect crispy and chewy dough. Unfortunately I think that was the most impressive aspect of our experience. The sukiyaki tasted ok, but they skimped out on the meat and put udon noodles in it. The Saki clams taste more like Chinese style clams. The spider roll was horrible. They got the rice all wrong. The rice was broken up into a mush and masked the other ingredients. My husband told me the chirashi bowl was horrible mainly because of the rice. The service was awkwardly good, but I do understand why some of the other yelpers might have complaints. The wait staff (the owners) did not have a uniform. They were in casual cloths. When they weren't serving, they were standing around talking. It's fine to talk, but when you feel like you are inconveniencing them when they have to serve you, it came across as unprofessional. It is hard to describe, you have to be there to understand. Perhaps it's the lack of focused service. Good wait staff can walk away and tend to other things, but they make you feel they are aware of you. The owner mentioned that the business was not doing well. I wanted to be empathetic, but I feel they are not trying hard enough to do well. I am not high maintenance. I can be forgiving, but when there are too many elements that fall short, it makes this restaurant a joke. Perhaps it is best to stay away from the sushi and stick to the other dishes.

For a sushi place, it's a bit odd that my favorite item is their crème brûlée. It's quite amazing though. :) I would suggest making room for dessert so that you're able to try it. The service was fast and friendly for the most part. The only part I didn't appreciate from the night I went there was the waitresses comment about me not eating the tuna. For the first time, I got a combo plate that included some raw sushi pieces /fish that I don't normally eat or haven't ate at all before. We ordered quite a bit and ate a lot. I had 2 pieces of fish left on my plate when she asked if we were done. After telling her yes she said, "I see you're not a fan of tuna. Oh, yeah, well it looks like she gave you the good piece, too. Very expensive." Is that not what happens at a restaurant usually? Especially when ordering a combo? People are going to leave some things behind, not finish it all, and yes, they may even waste the "good tuna." I paid for it, so hush. The comment was just unnecessary. Nothing too special. Their hours are a bit funky and split throughout the day so you can't show up at any time.

So, I got some gift certs from a website and I read all the fine print and nothing said you can't combine. When we went in, we ordered a lot of stuff and at the end of the meal I was showing her the certs and she said we could only use one. So just FYI. I wasn't happy at all about this but the lady was really nice. As for the food, the poke salad was really good. Had really good flavors. I was also recommended this canned alcoholic beverage that was like grapefruit sake carbonated? whatever it was, was fireworks in my mouth! Super tasty if you like citrus. I got the bento box and it was ok the beef tasted like roast, and that will turn me off. At this point, I'm just going there to get rid of the certs.

The absolute best, freshest, and most wonderful sushi I have EVER had!! The owners are a fantastic, friendly couple who make the place comfortable, and casual but then you get the food and WOW!! I've tried nearly all Seattle has to offer via sushi, and Vegas, and California...ETC etc.. this is the most remarkable sushi joint out there! Affordable, and the highest quality! I drive 30 miles to get here, nobody has come close. Try it!!!! You will never go anywhere ever again!

The food here is a tad bit better than the location implies. The strip mall is crazy busy around the lunch hours. Starbucks, Kinkos, and car licensing joint compete for spaces. (There are others too, but I can't imagine they linger in business for much longer.) The sushi chef is really friendly with the customers, but very demanding of his staff, sometimes to the point of really upsetting the servers. It's hard for me to enjoy my meal when I see a lady getting badgered at her place of work. Cutting Board is a wonderful sushi place just a few blocks away. The food there is notably better, more adventurous, and their restaurant has better hours. Give that a try first. If you stick to Daimonji anyway, the miso soup and sashimi are consistently worthwhile. The lunch specials and rolls have wildly varying quality day to day.

Alex is the best non-Japanese sushi chef I've ever encountered who is making very traditional sushi. His sushi rice is always cooked and seasoned perfectly unlike some of the non-Japanese sushi chefs'. Bad and unharmonious sushi rice ruins sushi no matter how fresh the seafood on top of the rice is and Alex does it right paired with high quality seafood. I highly recommend Omakase nigiri or just ask Alex what's fresh. He will never disappoint you. Besides the excellent sushi (especially nigiri), I also enjoy their oysters on half shells from Taylor's Shellfish. Alex dresses the oysters with ponzu sauce, green onions and spicy graded daikon radish. It is my favorite way to eat oysters. As they don't have the oysters every day, I suggest you call ahead to make sure they have it. Alex occasionally has chawanmushi which is as authentic as it gets with a very delicate flavor. Their prices are very reasonable for the quality you get. Very wallet friendly compared to places in downtown.

Just ate here for the first time tonight and it was absolutely delicious! Don't let the fact that it is in a strip mall turn you away (as it almost did to us). The owners and wait staff were the most friendly people I have encountered in a restaurant and they had great recommendations. The specials were amazing! We had a great time and plan on being back soon.

I really enjoyed Daimonji. We had a Restaurant.com gift certificate and I am glad that we got it because I probably would not have gone here if I didn't. It's kind of hole-in-the-wall-ish in that it definitely doesn't stand out from the outside, but if you ever go in here you won't regret it. Chef Alex is super nice and very friendly. The decor is kind of kitschy but in an adorable sort of way, and family atmosphere is palpable. The food was really good, and my husband also enjoyed the house sake. The two of us tried uni (sea urchin) for the first time and though Alex insisted that it's an acquired taste the two of us ended up actually really liking it. Several people have written reviews about the food not seeming to be as fresh? I'm not sure where people get that from because I did not experience that at all. I have zero complaints about Daimonji and can't wait to go back! I really wanted to go there for our anniversary but sadly, they are closed on Sundays. Super bummer!! Also... this restaurant has a parking lot. Just gonna throw that one out there. Might not be the fanciest part of town but there is free parking! And great food!

Yay Daimonji! I pass this place everyday on my way to school but have never been in until I went with my cousins. I had the Daimonji roll and spider roll. So good! My group's food had orders that took long, so Alex (the chef) would give us little updates like "I'm searing the salmon now" or "I'm rolling the____ " now. He and his wife are super nice and make the experience so much better.

I love sushi, but my co-workers are more teriyaki / tempura fans. It is so nice to find a restaurant that can appease the entire group. Daimonji is a small restaurant with a few tables in addition to counter seating. Every time I've gone here I've been promptly greeted and seated. They're very conscientious that the lunch crowd only has an hour to spare so they do what they can to get you in and fed within an hour. The owners and servers are so nice! Complimentary miso soup on cold days and hot tea always ready. The sushi is fresh. The salmon is fantastically buttery quality and much better than any conveyor belt sushi. If you're a sushi fan ask the sushi chef to surprise you - he's very good at what he does! There is plenty of parking but be wary during lunch hour as everyone is trying to get into this complex for any number of eateries there. The restaurant's ambiance is perfect - bright and balanced there's enough room to comfortably sit without feeling squashed. It is by far my favorite lunch time spot.

This is a wonderful hole in the wall sushi restaurant to visit. The staff are welcoming and make your time there very enjoyable. The food speaks for self and is very fresh and high quality recipes. The sushi rolls are delicious and works of art. I go here quite often and the wait staff remembers me every time I walk in, it feels like a second family. Overall a wonderful experience!

At first I was skeptical of a Japanese restaurant located in SODO working area. I automatically assumed they were established due to the workforce only targeting lunch crowd which will make the food teriyaki joint style. Boy I was wrong.. It was great food, fresh sushi.. I'm hoping they will get better business soon.. I live this place

Very nice place and very nice people, but way too pricey. To me the price for the udon soup and creme brulee was fine but the teriyaki was kinda high compare to another teriyaki place i can get the same amount for a better price, sushi price was ok too since there were load of seafood, but 4$ for a small bowl of seaweed salad was out of hand, I can go to sushiland or blue C sushi or even Genki to get the same amount for 1-2$. Good though, won't really recommend the place unless you don't mind paying high prices for a little amount of food. My total bill came out to 80$ and I barely had anything. Even just two pieces of mochi ice cream was about 4$ I might as well go to Uwajimaya and buy the whole box for six pieces.

I love this place. The staff is amazing and always so helpful and friendly. I don't eat seaweed so chef Alex always goes out of his way to make me an amazing seaweed free roll as well as anything else you could possibly imagine. While this isn't the cheapest sushi around, it is definitely the best because its fresh, presented in a beautiful way, EVERY time and it is priced decently. You're paying for an experience, this is not just a place to shove your face. Good assortment of beer and wine as well. I have made many friends and members of my family regulars here. They always keep me coming back for more!

Meh... okay "zushi" served here, meaning it's Korean run, which isn't a bad thing for the most part. Sadly the timing from the kitchen and the zushi master wasn't on par, my zushi platter came out, for my dinner, way before our miso soup and salad. Then the rather greasy tempura dinner was somehow lost and ended up on our table when I was ready to ask for the check. Taste-wise it was okay, nothing special. Zushi platter looked nice but a bit on the skimpy side. Miso soup was basically instant and had too much water added to it. Also that area of town is not a great night spot. As we were leaving a panhandler got all up in our faces as we tried to leave. I was about to pepper spray him, but then he freaked and jumped into his monster truck and headed for the hills.

Don't be afraid by the location. Strip mall sushi elicits images of Krab with a k and sketchy teriyaki, but everything was super fresh and delicious. We started with the Taylor Shellfish oysters topped with some sort of yummy stuff- so good. We tried a few rolls, the sashimi combo and the tonkatsu ramen. All was flavorful and fresh. The service was great, the chef seemed very passionate and his food was awesome. We will definitely be back.

Good food, but a bit too expensive. Waitress also criticized me for asking for a soup spoon to eat the miso soup with (I don't give a damn if I'm not eating eat the traditional way mind you). Better spend your money somewhere else, like Benihana's. About the same price with kinder people AND a show.

Jesus Christopher Robin. I passed by this place hundreds of times but the location never really excited me when thinking of sushi/sashimi/nigiri and Georgetown. Well, I went here after receiving a Restaurant.com coupon for $25 off if you spend at least $37.50. The service was f-ing ridiculously horrible. After presenting our coupon, we were treated as if we were a nuisance. If you do not like people presenting these coupons then do not market with an online company like Restaurant.com . I would have never gone to this place without the coupon so cheer up. Throughout our time spent here, we were continuously asked if we wanted anything else. Trust me, I know when asking if we'd like anything else is the norm in the experience of dining in. This older lady, who I believe is most likely the owner/manager, made the whole experience extremely uncomfortable and uninviting. I would not be surprised if this place goes under within the next 24 months if something doesn't change here. Oh, and the prices were much too high for the quality and quantity of servings. Save your money and go to Umi's or Japonessa. Hell, go to Sushi Land and get better service from a teenager. At the end of our meal we were presented with a bill with an 18% gratuity already added to the bill. We were a party of 3 so I guess that's normal if you are in hell. I probably would have tipped her more just because I will never go back there again. Don't get me wrong, the gentleman behind the sushi bar was absolutely hospitable, welcoming and filled with cheer. Too bad I had to experience the lady with the snakes on her head. Fu#k what I say, yeah? Go give it a try for yourself. Businesses are not sustained by one time visits so you won't be contributing too much to keeping this hole open for too long. Cheers!

The owners were so kind and you can tell they really believe in their menu. The woman made great recommendations to try some things I hadn't before even though I eat Japanese food regularly. Highlight? The agedashi tofu! I really am not a fan normally and never find myself craving the stuff, but after eating it here, I can't wait to have it again. The tofu is made organically and locally by the owner's sister. The prices were about average for sushi (IMHO). The rolls were all delicious. I definitely look forward to returning!

I went to have a birthday lunch with the people in my office. I haven't been to Daimonji in about 10 years. Wow, what a change. I could swear the place was twice the size the last time I was there. Wait staff was good. The woman that waited on us made a strange comment about not waiting tables too often, which was a little strange. When she gave us the menus she started explaining what some of the items were. Being Japanese (and I really do look Japanese) its pretty obvious that I would know everything on the menu. The Japanese restaurants in Seattle don't stray too far from the standard teriyaki, tempura and sushi path and neither did this menu. After we ordered, it took a while to get our food. Once we were served everyone was really disappointed at the portions. They were small even for Japanese standards. Plus the flavors and seasonings weren't really that impressive. Maybe I'm being a little too critical. So here's my recommendation: If you have a real need to have Japanese food head north to Tsukushinbo in the International District. If they are full, which they usually are, cross the street to Fujii or around the corner to Maneki.

Over the last couple of years, Daimonji has become our go-to place for both sushi and dinner in general. Now we just simply ask Alex to just feed us. He knows our favorites and always manages to surprise us with something new. It's totally the way to go, as you know when you ask for chef special you're getting his best work. Probably not the way to go for picky eaters, but we're way more into the fish than anything fried anyway. I'm surprised by the recent rash of poor reviews. For us, we appreciate them more each time.

Stopped in for lunch today. I had the "bento special" which included yakisoba, fish katsu, tomago, gyoza, edamame, a somewhat nondescript (sushi) roll, and a cup of miso. The bento contents were definitely "tastes" only, though they added up to a reasonably substantial meal. Everything was ok; though nothing especially blew me away. Husband also thought his "make your own lunch combo" (he chose chicken katsu and salmon teriyaki) was fine, but not great. Service as fine. Prices, I thought, were a hair on the high side ($8 for a California roll?). Tea, at least, was free. I do not rule out stopping again, but would not go out of my way to do so.

Daimonji is a dissapointment. Their previous owners had excellent REAL Japanese food with real Japanese chefs. Now the food is fake and the employees think they know Japanese food and they really don't. If you want some real Japanese food go to the International District and check out better quality food somewhere else.

Eugh. Okay, it wasn't that bad, but I don't think I'll be coming back here. When we first arrived, the waitress was quite diligent being interactive and making sure our food was good, which is always nice, but she seemed to have taken some things too personal. I couldn't finish my meal. There was too much tempura and very little "main dish." When she saw the tempura and rice was barely touched, she asked if I wanted a box. I said no. She kept pushing me into getting a box, so I had to tell her that I'm not hungry and I don't think I'll need one. She then kept asking if the food was okay, what was wrong with it, etc. Basically, she was thinking I didn't finish it because I hated the food. :-P The food... well, I was unamused. The beef was average, the sauces were not that special, and the fish itself isn't that great. The servings were large, but I didn't feel that they were worth the price that they're marked at. A "Makanoshi Bento" is $20 when there was hardly any chicken katsu, and only three tiny pieces of sashimi, but a generous amount of tempura. The only dish that I enjoyed was the okonomiyaki. It's difficult to find Japanese restaurants who serve this, and when I saw it on their menu, I HAD to get it. I think that was the only perk of this place.

I came in again for dinner and the staff did something that made me want to keep coming to this place again and again. I was already seated at my table and I turned around to see a very elderly couple coming in to the restaurant. They were having trouble walking to their table. The owner rushed out, greeted them and helped escort them to their table. She stayed and chatted for a bit and then left to go back to her work. Then, when their food arrived, she came out and sat at the table with them and talked with them for awhile. Done. She won me over. I'll keep coming to a place, locally owned, that takes care of her loyal customers.

Sushi rolls totally blend.. No flavor.. Price too high in comparison with the food quality.. Small portions.. Dont waste your time and money..

This is a wonderful little sushi restaurant. Sit at the bar and have Alex the owner take care of you. We tried so many wonderful dishes that he recommended and had great conversation about food. If you want good sushi in a non pretentious environment where you will be remembered by the owners then you should come here.

I have been here several times and it has gone down hill since I started going here in June of 2012. I think they have changed ownership since then. It's okay for us it's a fall back of our favorite place is closed.

This was my pre-Yelp Open Event dinner-of-choice and it was a nice one. I believe it's run by a chinese duo husband & wife: Alex and Stephanie(sp). Alex is the sushi chef. Over the course of dinner, he was very cool and a friendly person to simply chat with. I think I had the 4 Season roll, Healthy Roll and Chicken Tatsuta (still not sure, or atleast didn't taste, the difference with Kaarage). I skipped the tomato in the Healthy Roll and he put a surprise veggie in there. I joked how thankfully it wasn't mushrooms. I must've just beat a stream of customers as people started coming in after I did. I asked Alex if he knew an old high school chinese friend, who used to work there, Yin C, and he said yeah. He said she got more busy having started dating. =P lol

We ordered Sukiyaki, tonkatsu ramen, sockeye sashimi and a dragon roll. Everything came out fairly quickly. The sashimi and dragon roll were average - made with fresh ingredients and tasted how I expected them to taste. I have yet to find the best ramen in Seattle, but the tonkatsu ramen here actually impressed me quite a bit and is probably one of my new favorite places for ramen. I only had a taste of the Sukiyaki, but it was amazing and tasted authentic. It will probably be my reason to come back so I can actually order it for myself. Service was at its best. All the workers have a natural ability to strike up a conversation with you as if you're a guest in their own home... and they definitely go out of their way to make sure your food and experience is enjoyable.

Ya its okay for dinner. Blah. Seems like it would be way better for lunch. Dont go here to eat dinner. It's just a neighborhood joint. The sushi was decent like conveyor belt level quality, so I mean its okay but nobody working here really cares, if you all dont have uniforms and just use the laptop when customers arnt around. Thats bad vibes. I just cant see a reason to drive to Georgetown to get sushi here. Thats why the 2 stars. Also did not like that whack music, is it too much to want Japanese music? Im sure if you cared you would've asked people what to play at your restaurant and get something better.....Seems like nobody is trying, the only expense should not just be restocking seafood... I want you guys to hype it up, get uniforms, play the role, pictures of your food, instead of straight face blah = I Friday night I saw 2 tables + my table from 730-9pm, this place will always have the same old slow business if you do the same old blah. Clean up the god damn menu too, don't hand me no torn up stained menu, cmon now my friends from Japan would slap you for having a Japanese sushi resturant and having busted up menus like that for your customers.

I LOVE this place. The sushi chef Alex is as fun and sweet as they get. I prefer going during lunch. I have loved everything I have ever ordered. Sometimes I tell the chef to be creative and he creates some of the best sushi I have ever had. Goldie and Stephanie are also amazing, great service, super friendly. I tell ALL of my friends to try this place when they are in town. Who knew Georgetown had great sushi...well now you know!!!

The Ebi tempura roll is to die for. The owner and sushi chef, Alex, is really kind and personable! I was in town on business and passed by on my way back to my hotel to try their rolls. Definitely check it out

I really want to give this place a 2.5 star rating, but that's not an option so I'll do my usual round-down to 2. We had: albacore, yellowtail, and salmon sushi; spicy tuna roll; four seasons roll. Everyone was just shy of okay. The temperature of the sushi was a bit warm for my liking and the salmon was super "fishy". The rolls were ok, albeit small, but nothing to write home about. Must say service was excellent. Weird though because the sushi chef took our order and explained they were short handed, and there weren't even that many patrons. So, I can imagine if there were more customers then service could turn crappy pretty quickly if they didn't have any more servers.

It is wonderful to come across restaurateurs who see the value of giving their customers reason to return! They must have read been reading the reviews and took it upon themselves to make things better. We had a very nice romantic evening with great service! We had the seaweed salad, sushi sampler, spider roll, and the Japanese pancake. Sushi was very fresh, yummy, full of flavor and distinctly different from conveyor belt sushi. I really enjoyed the seaweed salad and think that it's one of the best I've had. Crunchy and not slimy. It was a bit hidden so difficult for me to find. They are tucked behind the Starbucks in the corner. We'll definitely be back if we find ourselves in the area again!

My 8-yr old son requested sushi for his family birthday dinner, as he's a salmon fiend, and Alex and the crew at Diamonji really took care of us. The platter was finished right when I came in, as fresh as could be, and it was fantastic! Even some of the non-sushi loving grandparents went back several times. We'll be back very soon to dine in.

We came here because we have passed by it many times and there happened to be a restaurant.com deal on it, so we bought that to try it out. We got there around 8pm on a Wednesday night and there were no other customers. The owner waited on us and she was very friendly and helpful in her suggestions. She also gave us an extra bowl of miso soup and rice because we were sharing the food. There was a take-out customer while we dined and they gave her a bowl of miso soup while she waited (COLD night, so I'm sure she appreciated that!) and packaged her food very carefully. We ordered the Poke Tuna Salad, Agedashi Tofu, Daimonji Dinner Combo, and Daimonji Sushi Roll. All of the food was super fresh and very tasty. My boyfriend felt the Agedashi Tofu was a bit greasy, but I didn't think so. Although, he ate 2 of the pieces and I only had 1. We both agreed it was prepared differently than how most places do it, which might explain why it was a bit greasier. The pieces of tofu were bigger chunks, coated in bonita flakes, then fried. The presentation of everything was awesome. Also, she offered us creme brulee, which wasn't on the menu. She said she basically makes whatever dessert she feels like :) We were too full to consider that, but we're pretty sure it would've tasted great. Next time, for sure!....if it's on the menu of the day ;)

This place was little bit better than some buffet sushi. I had a coupon from the Restaurant.com which I purchased today for $20. Coupon was worth $50 with minimum of $100 spent. Sushi was very cold to bite if they were just thawed. Tempura was pretty good. Hot sake was a low quality and way too hot to drink. I ended up drinking just two cups and left the rest. Miso soup was like the instant miso soup you can buy from the H mart. Received check and realized there was 18% gratuity added on the bill even tough this wasn't written on the fine print. Owner came over to our table and tried to explain why the automatic 18% gratuity wasn't explained on the voucher and blamed Restaurant.com for misinforming the consumers like myself. Long story short, our bill was $142. Because i had purchased $20 coupon for $50 i owed $92. Basically, i ended up paying almost $30 on tips when the food was low quality, not even mediocre. Owner, Stephanie was friendly; therefore, two star instead of one star. If you want really good quality sushi avoid this restaurant. If you want low quality but cheap unlimited sushi, I recommend a Chinese buffet. Anyone who rated 5 stars after 2011(current owners/sushi man after 2011..I believe), you guys haven't had good quality sushi nor been to an authentic Japanese sushi joint.

The only time in my life that I've had okonomiyaki was in Japan when I went in high school. That being said, I've been having mad cravings for a meal that I've only had once. So if you're on the same page as me, then here is where you need to be. The okonomiyaki is too good. It's come back to back days for about a week good. I've had all 4 of the okonomiyaki dishes that they offer and the best one is the Hiroshima. Order it. ORDER IT. You won't be disappointed. The rest of the restaurant as a pretty chill atmosphere. Your typical walk in, close to home vibe type of spot. Be sure you check the hours before you decide to go.

It's gotten hard to find a sushi restaurant that isn't fancy, overpriced, "fusion", or whatever else they're doing with sushi right now. This is it! It's a normal sushi bar. You don't have to pay $30 for 6 pieces of fish! I had the sashimi sampler ($20) and it had 15 pieces of fish plus rice and miso soup (though I can't eat miso :( more for my boyfriend!). They've got standard sushi rolls, too. The quality of fish is good, too. The service is outstanding. They're so friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is like any typical small Asian restaurant in a strip mall. It's clean, for sure, but I wouldn't tell anyone to go there for the ambience. Oh another cool thing.. I bring my own gluten-free soy sauce with me when I go to restaurants, and the owner told me they have it there! So I won't need to bring my own bottle anymore. With a beer, a sushi sampler, a sashimi sampler, a seaweed salad, and two orders of super white tuna, we still were under $70. Will be returning.

Been here a couple times and found the fish to be better than average, large pieces of sashimi and the service is excellent. Everyone is really friendly. I see a few reviewers complaining about the use of a certificate - we used one our first visit and there were no issues + I really appreciate them for offering it. A strong 4 to 4.5 stars - we will be back. Pros: - Easy parking! - Super friendly owners/staff - Yummy Uni! - Not overly busy so no wait and good seating Cons: - Small-ish spider roll - didn't have Quail egg

As sushi bars go, I've certainly experienced more authenticity and selection. One would think these two attributes at the pinnacle of any successful sushi restaurant. Or so I thought. There are plenty of excellent sushi spots around Seattle. The brilliant, creative, ambience-driven, romantic views, the modern and the traditional. If you've been eating sushi for as long as I have (37+ years, globally) the one thing we aficionados request....the only thing that permeates to the tops of our collective wasabi soiled lists, is freshness. All else is secondary. That's the only thing that matters. None I've visited over the years in Seattle can surpass this chef's delft ability to choose excellent product AND manage to humble himself in remembering every patrons names after only meeting them once. He's not only polite, he's friendly in a seemingly sincere way. Good to know that surprises still exist in the simplest of ways. Excellent fish meets gracious service.

First impression of Daimonji was that the layout was really similar to The Cutting Board nearby, except Daimonji is bigger and feels cleaner. The menu had a nice assortment without being overwhelming. We ordered curry katsu and a variety of sushi. The curry katsu definitely had that homemade taste--it tasted like it had been cooking for quite a while and had a nice spicy kick. The pork was crisp and moist, while the steamed veggies were fresh. Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of the sushi. The sushi rice tasted kind of watered down--it's the only way I can think to describe it-- and it was a bit mushy. Though the general presentation on the platter was initially nice, the look of the rolls was unappealing at second glance. The pieces were not cut uniformly, some pieces were thicker than others, and rice was busting out of most of them. Also, there must have been some cross contamination with ginger while the sushi was being made because I had a couple pieces that tasted heavily of ginger. However, really friendly and polite staff, and I would probably return for the cooked items if I'm in the area. I saw okonomiyaki on the menu, and I do want to try their version sometime!

Alex is a really friendly guy, the whole family works here I think. Super welcoming and the sushi is really good here, fatty. And there's a unique Japanese-Chinese mix taste. One of the best places I've been :)

Happened to be craving sushi and Daimonji was the only close place that was open. We waited about 30-40 minutes for our sushi and the place wasnt even half full. Hands down the worst restaurant sushi I've ever had. I think grocery store sushi has better flavor. The rolls were more rice than filling and not cut evenly. First time I've seen lopsided sushi in my entire life. The only upside was the eel bowl my boyfriend got. The eel was very tender, meaty, and tasty. In summary, entirely overpriced for the quality.
