CJ's is a great option for breakfast. Even during peak weekend brunch hours, you will be seated quickly and immediately greeted by your server. There are a number of options to choose from and breakfast is served all day!

As a long-time customer, even harking back to when this was AJ's Eatery, I've always enjoyed the good, snappy service, the well-prepared food, and the general bonhomie of the place. As such I was disappointed by the cold food and surly service I received this morning. I notice the last few times I've been in, the owner (a delightful gal who was originally a server at AJ's and whose name escapes me), has not been present. I don't know why, but her presence is sorely missed. Come back and right the CJ's ship!

We took a visitor to town here to cash in on trying someplace new and test the reviews I've seen here. They had a line and the odds were against finding a table for three quickly but they still seated us under 30 minutes and the service here is way fast. We never had to ask for more coffee and when we asked for a minute to make a decision, they didn't just go away and forget. We ordered an omelette (can't remember the name of it, but it had spinach, bell peppers and onion with the egg whites instead of full eggs) and two eggs over medium both with honey wheat toast and red potatoes. Our guest ordered the Yuppie (green peppers, onions, cheese and Uli's sausage) with hash browns and marble rye. The red potatoes are definitely better than the hash browns. Everyone enjoyed themselves. The service was great but I think next time we need to go when we're hungry, not ravenous. We blew through the meal so fast and I don't remember anything in particular about the food. I think next time I'll have to insist that we try something off the specialty menu... Maybe I just imagined we were there. Next time I'll take pictures. Anyway, stars for the great service and the potatoes!

Probably my favorite breakfast spot in Seattle. Every time I've been there I get seated quickly and my food comes out really fast. The French toast is outstanding and the corn beef hash is really good too. Totally recommended.

Cj's is the quintessential breakfast joint, and the best part of it is that it's got that quaint local hangout feel. The omelets are solid. The latkes are solid. The mimosas are good. So why not go and give it a shot?

I met my kids here for brunch because it had good reviews on yelp and also has smoked salmon eggs benedict on the menu. I arrived early so that I could be seated by the time my kids and their new baby arrived as they had another appointment after. Once they arrived and we continued to wait for a table I realized that my name had been taken off the waiting list until everyone arrived. When I questioned the host about this he mumbled something about " have to do that on the weekend". I let him know I didn't appreciate it and that at least he could have advised that this was their policy. Anyway, to his credit he found us a table right away once he realized how unhappy I was. The server was great, but the food was just mediocre. I had the aforementioned smoked salmon benedict and the hollandaise sauce was good, but nothing special. Daughter had a scramble, Which was just ok and son in law had biscuits and gravy which he didn't enjoy at all. So, unfortunately not a place we will be trying again. However I'm still looking for someplace that serves smoked salmon Benny that is as awesome as the one previously on the menu at Hunger. It was amazing and unfortunately has been removed since they changed their menu. If there were half stars available I would give CJ's a 2.5 but that's about it.

Breakfast till 3 pm lends to be the perfect eatery to head out to for brunching after a night out on the town. The menu is pretty expansive and the fact that I can order up a custom egg white omlet for myself is always a plus. Compared to Local 360 that refuses to do egg white omlets. Is it really so hard to separate the yolk from the whites?? Your likely to find this place backed up on the weekends and with good reason so. But the staff is 5 stars accomodating and always there to round your water to be full. The burgers and sandwiches all looked super packed and tasty with fresh cut french fries. They also have FRESH orange and grapefruit juice! If you have a hankering for a heartier breakfast and don't want to wait the lines at Macrina or suffering the non-substitutions from Local 360, CJ's is the happy medium for value.

Their burger is surprisingly good, but too big. In recent decades, burgers and Americans have both grown in size. Coincidence? I think not. I think people expect their burger to overwhelm their face. Bigger burgers = mayo and mess all over my hands. Something's wrong if I need 7 napkins to eat my lunch. 7 napkins! Think of the rain forests! Anywho, CJ's is a weird gem of Americana in the midst of uppity Belltown. It's like a Denny's oasis in a desert of hoity-toity pretentiousness. (Well actually, I'm one of those pretentious Belltowners.) If you're looking for something a little more refined, try 360 or Lola. But if you want to feel like you're in Spokane, come to CJ's.

Excellent options for vegetarian; fast, non-intrusive, attentive service, they butter the toast ( I hate cold toast and butter tabs:() And you can replace grits for potatoes! I like claiminty janes grits better, but the bf got potatoes, usually doesn't eat them and said they were crunchy and good. Place was packed and still great service. The outside doesn't do it justice, and maybe that's good so you can get a table.

This is a solid spot for breakfast in Belltown. Considering I pretty much never go to Belltown, especially this early in the day, I doubt I will be back. But, if I do make it back, I am totally having the Challah french toast. When we were deciding on breakfast options, I mentioned I didn't want eggs, which obviously narrows down the choices. The idea of Challah French toast was definitely appealing though, so we headed over to CJ's early on a Sunday morning. Like many have mentioned, the decor is very....well, boring? I don't know, it seems like the restaurant inside a Holiday Inn, or some equally mediocre 3 star hotel. The menu itself was very interesting though, and I saw lots of great options. Including Uli's sausage. I ended up ordering the Latkes and sausage. I am a sucker for potato pancakes. They were alright, but they seemed to be undercooked. I definitely prefer the Latkes at Roxy's though. My date had the challah french toast, which was super tasty. I guess I just need to learn my lesson from him and order what he says he likes there. No messing around! Apparently you can substitute grits for the hash browns, which seems like an awesome idea in theory, but I am not 100% sure how it would work in execution here. Lots of breakfast options though, that are standard priced, and decent tasting. Good if you are in the area, but not really worth going out of your way for.

A must stop for Seattle trips. Always good things here. You could throw a dart at the menu and be entirely satisfied. Go there for brunch - ooooooooooo!!!!

I have been to CJ's several times. Got the chicken fried steak yesterday. It was standard fried steak, the gravy was better than average. A nice kinda brownish sausage gravy. The hash browns were cooked just right, and my medium eggs were spot on. The service from my waiter was excellent, super friendly. He came back for the follow up check after I received my food, and made sure our drinks were full. All round pretty decent and worth the cash.

Holy amazing breakfast. The biscuits and gravy were life changing. haha I've had a lot of b&g over the years, but cj's gravy beats them all. Idk what the recipe is, but I wish I had it since I live two states away from this place. Latte was delicious. And the portions were nice with the hash browns and eggs, got to take home some delicious leftovers. I apologize, because I can't remember our waitresses name, but she was quirky and awesome and personable, and loved her. Next time I'm in Seattle, this is where I'll be having breakfast for sure. Thanks guys.

CJs. Is just AWESOME! The servers are friendly, food comes out fast and the fresh fruit was the sweetest I've ever had in Seattle. I'd recommend this place to Everyone GO TO CJS EATERY NOW!

Don't let the 3* fool you. This is a good place to eat for sure. I just happened to have eaten at Serious Pie before here and everything else has just been compared to them. Great food portions and a nice speedy staff. Very friendly too. So if on 2nd street, check them out in the morning for breakfast.

We visited CJ's Eatery for breakfast 4/18/10 based on the reviews. It was great! The place is easy to find, clean, modern, bright and airy. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The waiters watch for people coming and as you seat yourself, someone is there immediately to offer you coffee. I had the Chelsey fritatta with ham, mushrooms, black olives, tomatoes and Havarti cheese. It came with red potato "hashbrowns", toast and jam. I would highly reccommend you try CJ's and brind your friends!

Good place for breakfast/brunch. - Blueberry pancakes: They're "Swedish style," which apparently means DELICIOUS! Crunchy edges with a soft, fluffy middle. - Chicken-fried steak w/gravy: Tasty goodness. The gravy even had sausage pieces in it! ommm nom nom nom. - Omelette: Decent.

Just as advertised--affordable, tasty comfort food. Big mimosas for the price. The industrial carpeting throughout is a little nasty/unsanitary-looking, but who cares?

If your breakfast of choice is a comfy egg or two with some hash browns and toast, it's pretty hard to review a bruthuh beyond it was good or it sucked. CJ's was good. And really freakin' busy on a Sunday morning, so they are clearly making some people happy. I licked my plate clean as did my buddy. If you happen to be in this hood and need some breaking in your fast, CJ's, baby.

The wife and I were staying in Seattle for a few days... and we decided to give this place a shot for breakfast... we were in the downtown area, and walking... so I got a few "are we there yet"s from the wife... but after we sat down... and got our food... she stopped complaining right away. There looked to be a bit of a lineup when we first stepped in... but it was taken care of right away... we were about 3 parties back from the front, and we were seated within 5 minutes (yeah!). We were asked immediately about water and/or coffee... we got both within a few minutes later (double yeah!). We perused the menus... and after a little bit, our waitperson took our order. The wife got the french toast special (orange batter was the special part),and I got the red flannel hash (beets, onions, bacon, and red potatoes) with 2 eggs (as you like them). The coffee was strong... the french toast was GREAT, and the hash was filling and great too (there was toast and hash browns on the side... even without those two it would have been more than enough). We were so full and so satisfied from the meal... will definitely have to come back next time we are in town!

I was told this is the spot to get breakfast in town. Boy they weren't kidding. Wow! The service was exceptional. I felt like I was one of the characters from Mad Men eating at a local restaurant. Their wait staff was very attentive to our needs and kept asking if we liked their food. I liked that, it was like sitting down at a someone's house and constantly being asked by their mother if the food is okay. I ordered the cream cheese french toast and some veggie sausages, both hit the spot like no other. And I aint even a breakfast person.

Best breakfast ever! We visited from California and ate there all three days we were in Seattle! Their eggs benedict was hands down the BEST I have ever had!

  • Maria A.

I've had wayyyy better bfast!! The hash browns were not crispy & barely hot. My omelette was mediocre, nothing memorable. I think my roommate liked her scramble, maybe I just chose a bad dish. If the hash browns were better it would have made up for the bad omelette. How can a bfast place have below average hash browns?? That's half of breakfast!! So sad. I'll try it again just bc its so close to where I live.

I've been here several times now and I'm conflicted on giving this place two stars instead of one because while I have always had a very pleasant experience with the super friendly and accommodating staff, I have never had a good experience with the food. First off, the last two times I have come here for breakfast, I have always had a dirty glass. I'm not talking smudges on the outside of the glass, I'm talking a crusty piece of whatever on the lip where you drink or inside on the bottom soaking in the water. I feel like an ass whenever I send back something right off the bat when I sit down but what am I going to do, drink dirt? Secondly, the food I've always received is totally sub par, kind of your burnt on a griddle run of the mill diner food. That is fine cause this place isn't fancy or anything BUT I wouldn't complain except this last time I was there I found a grizzly hair nested right in my hash browns. I was too embarrassed to send it back or say anything since I had already sent my water and OJ back cause of the dirty glasses, so I just didn't finish my meal. If the food I had been eating had been delicious I probably would have wanted it redone, but as it is, it wasn't worth waiting for them to remake it for me. Lastly, they fresh squeeze their OJ here which is great, but my OJ last time I was here tasted funky, and the waitress said that sometimes it tastes funky cause occasionally they get a bad batch of oranges. This was alarming to me because shouldn't they be making sure that they never get bad batches, much less still squeeze them and serve them to the customer? Kinda scary there. I've never been impressed by the food here, and after giving this place a couple of chances and consistently being served with dirty glasses, rotten Orange Juice, and hair I'm going to have to pass on future breakfasting. They get the extra star though for having such nice staff.

One of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time. Got the special chicken fried chicken on the waitress's recommendation and was not disappointed. I will definitely stop in again next time I'm in Seattle.

If you're looking for your run of the mill breakfast/lunch joint, you've found it. The meals are hit and miss. The Benedict's are very good, as well as the French toast and club sandwich. Today I had an omelet and it was very dry and over cooked. My partner had a scramble that was bland and burnt. I guess it just depends on who's in the kitchen. Be prepared to wait if you're coming in on a weekend. Also, the wait staff can be friendly but it takes a long time to get them to take your order. We'll be back next time we want easy food to cure our hangover.

My favorite breakfast place around Belltown. I had a delicious omelet and toast. Everything was cooked well and the service was impeccable. It's always super busy on weekend days if you look into the windows. The portions are always very generous and the price is on point too. Not much to dislike here. I try to avoid walking by it when it's open to stop and temptations, otherwise I'd probably blow up from all the bacon and pancakes.

CJ's may have just served me the best breakfast ever. I ordered a custom omelette with extra eggs and they said no problem. It came fast and was sooo good. The mushrooms and large pieces of bacon really made it. My coffee cup never got empty and service was fast and friendly.

  • Renee S.

My girlfriend and I ate here on a Friday morning and made the early bird special. The French toast and fruit was a perfect size for the price and the breakfast sandwich with ham (real ham) was big and delicious! We also ordered mimosas, which to our surprise, were also huge! Overall it was a pleasant experience! We contemplated going to the place Lucky Diner across the street, but glad we made the decision we did.

not much to be said about the decor or ambiance. it looks like a Holiday Inn lobby with a sad continental breakfast hiding somewhere within it- but don't let that fool or deter you! the food was SO good, and the service was fast and friendly. perfect portion sizes and a decently priced menu! perfect place to go, especially if you just want to roll out of bed and have food in your face as soon as possible. (me, most weekend mornings) my husband got the Swedish pancakes with baked apples- fluffy and soft, not too decadent. the apples were cooked well and still had a good bite. my husband likes a little savory with his usually sweet breakfast, and he was able to order a single scrambled egg with cheese- an option I feel like isn't usually available at most brunch spots. I got the fried chicken and eggs special with a chorizo gravy, and my mind was blown! the gravy was perfectly seasoned and spicy without being overwhelmed, the chicken breast perfectly moist and the breading was crispy without tasting too greasy. they even got my over easy eggs perfect. I would eat this dish everyday if I could.

This is my first yelp review. But CJ's was totally worth it. I ordered one of their scrambles off the Wednesday special menu and it came with toast and hash browns. Everything was very well cooked and delicious! The service was very good, not overbearing, but aware of my needs and very friendly. I just relocated to the area and will definitely be eating here again soon. I'm happy to have found my new breakfast spot.

All I can say is Awesome. We stopped in for breakfast on our way out of seattle and it was delicious! I've been on a mission to find the best biscuits and gravy I've ever eaten and I think I found it! Our waitress explained they use bacon in there gravy, not just sausage. You could also see they used herbs in the gravy which is such a pleasant change from the same old thick gloopy white gravy you find at other places. An absolute must stop!

  • Ivy Lou H.

Very mediocre food and blah atmosphere. We went here because it served all-day breakfast (until closing @ 3:00PM). The one good thing was the coffee but the food left me feeling I'll as well as dissatisfied. There are much better choices in the Ballard area such as Bacco.

Silly Chicago CJ's - shame on you for causing such confusion amongst poor unsuspecting Seattleites. Well, I guess I'll jump on the (already large & growing) bandwagon to confirm that yes indeed, our CJ's is open. Hopefully Yelp will correct the error soon, but enough recent reviews have been written that things should be clarified. Came here earlier today for brunch with a friend. We had planned on another local bakery as he's never been and lives right down the street, but the usual wait there led us to see if we could get into CJ's more quickly. And we did, with plenty of free tables. Actually my friend commented on how unusually slow it was (it IS open people!). Anyway, I had the special omelette of the day, an incredibly satisfying greek inspiration with spinach, feta cheese, gyro chicken and a delish tzatziki sauce, with the red potatoes (highly recommended) and sourdough bread on the side. It was terrific. My friend had the Bourbon omelette with andouille sausage, hash browns and wheat toast. He's been here several times, and always leaves happy. Service was great. Our server was prompt and attentive, always kept our water glasses full (a *really* big deal to me when I'm dining out) and never once rushed us. I think I found a new favorite brunch spot.

It was a Monday morning, I was fresh off an airplane, and I had not had breakfast yet. Decided to check out CJ's not only because they got some stellar reviews but also because they are walking distance from the first attraction we wanted to visit, the Space Needle. There's nothing fancy about this place - no extravagant chandelier hanging from the waiting area or hip Mason jar cups - but they do have some downright delicious comfort food. I ordered the bacon and cheddar scramble with red potatoes and sourdough toast. My meal came out quick and I was more than satisfied with it. It tasted as I imagined it would - delicious - and it also gave me the comfort I seek when I'm on vacation. Our waitress was really attentive as well, which is always a plus. Next time I will have to try one of their mimosas.

  • Sarah S.

I have given this place several chances, and my meal each time has been really boring and lacking in flavor. I never finish the entire plate and always leave feeling like I wasted money. I guess it's better if you're a sweet breakfast person and enjoy blintzes or blueberry pancakes, but I really like savory breakfasts. I dig delicious potatoes, awesome omelets, beautiful migas or spicy huevos rancheros. CJs fails miserably at satisfying my cravings. My most recent trip involved an omelet filled with so much raw onion that I couldn't really finish it. (Raw onion? In an omelet? Raw??) The potatoes were bland.... Meh. I can't call this place BAD, but I just always order something that sounds delicious and I'm way underwhelmed. Bummer. The place is cute, and the service is always very good. Just make sure you're only ordering pancakes and you may leave happy.

  • Griffin E.

This is my go to spot when I am craving breakfast foods. I love going here after a night of heavy drinking in the neighborhood. My friends and I usually roll into the establishment on late Saturday/Sunday mornings. CJs is always crowded but the wait is never too long, the staff is professional, extremely fast and courteous. I've had pretty much every item on their breakfast menu over the years and none has disappointed! If I had to choose a few standouts, I would say... try the chicken fried steak, the red potatoes over the hash browns, the french toast and the eggs benedict are all wonderful (hollandaise sauce on the side). The only downside to CJs is that it isn't open late...

We went here for lunch, the place was busy and bustling but we still felt like we were valued customers. The service was great, our glasses were never empty and the food was delicious! I had the ham and cheese melt with fries and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite! A great place to go for lunch!

  • Tina L.

I like CJ's for breakfast. It gets high marks in the fast and friendly service category. Ambience is not CJ's strong suit since the decor is rather outdated and tacky with more of a functional cafeteria feel than anything else. The food, however, is good enough to keep me coming back. I would recommend their blueberry pancakes and eggs benedict. Their coffee is decent, though I agree with the other reviewer's comment that it is strong. Like, keep tabs on how many refills you're getting or you might have heart palpitations for the rest of the day. Prices aren't cheap but for Belltown, they're reasonable, and the portions are quite large.

  • Crystal M.

I don't know anything on their menu except for the same dang few items I have been ordering over the last decade. Seriously, their Swedish pancakes are out of this world perfect! I order mine extra crispy around the edges. They are thin but not too thin and as big as a dinner plate. They are a little chewy in the center...just a little!!! And spongy and fragranced like a French crepe but more meaty. A little spread of whipped butter, warm syrup and ...Yummo!!! And then I also get their French fries. They are steak size fries that are golden crisp outside and soft and steamy inside. The potato is crunchy and then buttery soft potato in the middle. if you like fries, you will dig these. They used to make the best chocolate malt shakes but they don't any more...Sad.... The wait staff is efficient, cool tattoos and they serve fast and good prices. No one else makes pancakes like they do here. I want the recipe!!! Parking can be a hassle during peak weekend breakfast and lunch time so wear comfy shoes so u can park cuz you might need to hike up steep hills. I see tons of people ordering their omelets so they must be good. For me, it's all about the pancakes and fries. Carbs delight!

Delicious breakfast! We had the breakfast sandwich and yogurt parfait - both were great and reasonably priced. The yogurt parfait was a bit overpriced, but anything with fresh fruit is usually marked-up quite a bit.

Went there yesterday (sunday) and besides the noise level the food was great. We waited to be seated for about 10/15 mins which is not that bad for 10/11 am on a sunday. I ordered way too much but I had great leftovers today :-) Had the northwest eggs benedict, french toast and grits. So delish. And the steamed hot chocolate? Awesome. Best I've ever had at a breakfast serving joint.

I live in bell town and took some friends visiting out to breakfast at CJs. It ended up being one of those times we all ordered something different and just passed our plates around because everything was so good!!!swedish pancakes, eggs Benedict and biscuits and gravy were all superb!

    (5)
  • Seth E.

Hey you, Mr. Giant Swedish pancakes! Get in my belly!! I want these humungous Swedish cakes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner everyday. For the rest of my life. Seriously. I may get back on a plane and fly up there just for a stack. It's one of those things in life that just keep getting better everytime you do it. Did I mention I like the Swedish pancakes? Silly me, must have left that part out. Oh ya, the service is good, great location, blah blah. You and I both know it's about those pliable, golden, squishy cakes. The ones with just enough of a crust around the edge to rock your world. CJs, you rock my world. As someone once wrote in my senior yearbook "don't ever change".

Corned beef hash and eggs were great, but the brutal greeting experience/lack of host was miserable. Totally understand it being busy at the time we went, but could have been a lot better service experience.

It's a decent breakfast, but be prepared to wait in a LONG line, especially if it's the day after a BIG celebration... and even more if said celebration normally involves drinking. Like....New Years. So apparently their breakfast food is also good hangover food. ;-p

  • Sin-Yaw W.

This got to be Seattle's most popular brunch place. We arrived at 10:30am and the line sprawled out of the door and inside was fully packed. Then I remembered why: the services. The waiting staff were friendly and truly nice people. They remember old customers by names and even their orders. The food is standard American brunch: omelet, toast, etc. I cannot say that they are superbly delicious, but you wouldn't expect that. People expect these kinds of foods to be of certain standard and price and CJ delivers exactly that. So, everyone left happy. And they come back wanting the same next time.

  • Sam T.

I am a self proclaimed connoisseur of the chicken fried steak and eggs... I like my chicken fried steak and eggs...2 eggs over-easy, crispy hashbrowns (usually ask extra crispy), english muffin w/ grape jam if possible, etc... What makes a delicious chicken fried steak and eggs is the gravy...I'm not knocking the other guys...Pete's Egg Nest (best quantity for price), Dennys/Sharis (where I cut my teeth on the meal), Beth's Cafe (best hashbrown and it's all you can eat), etc...but CJ's gravy is tops!!! Plan to try Lucky's across the street eventually...

    (4)
  • Meghan P.

Zero stars (blank slate!) to start... then... The atmosphere in CJ's feels a bit like Denny's with somewhat uninteresting and plastic-y furniture. The service was a little bit "plastic" too... = -1 star The food was really good and fairly reasonably priced. I had a delicious omelette that tasted very fresh = +3 stars As we left CJ's, we ran into Jeff's colleague with fun friends. We proceeded to spend the entire weekend with them and they greatly enhanced our stay in Seattle = +1 star Total: 3 stars Summary: Good food & great location for running into friends outside!

This is the best breakfast place in Belltown! Their cheese blintzes are AMAZING!!! My husband loves the chicken fried steak and eggs. Also their loxs and bagels are pretty good too! I don't think you can go wrong with picking anything from the menu. They have a great staff who are always friendly and quick with service, no matter how busy it is. Weekend wait times can be pretty crazy so be prepared. Oh and they have yummy mimosa's! You've got to try one!!

  • Mimi C.

I.LOVE.THIS.PLACE! Spent the last day in Seattle looking for a place serving omelets and stumbled upon CJ's through Yelp. Where do I begin?! We ordered: 1.Swedish Pancakes + Scrambled Eggs ~$7 2. Belltown Omelet - Sausage, bellpeppers, havarti cheese + whole wheat toast ~$7 3. Mimosa ..eh I forget how much this cost. The Mimosa came first, one sip already made a little tipsy! harhar, they give you a hearty 8 oz glass filled to the brim and much of that is topped with alcohol. What a fab way to start off NYE!!! The Swedish pancakes were the MOST delicious pancakes I've had to date!!! These pancakes are very thin and cover a lot of surface area. The edges are light and crispy and the bodies of the pancakes are light and fluffy. You must try. MUST! The eggs were not bad as well. But being scrambled eggs, I don't really have much to say about them. =P The last thing to come was the omelet. Immediately, I grabbed a bite and WOW I was NOT DISAPPOINTED! Very fresh, with each of the ingredients distinct. I wonder if the mimosa helped. =P The cheese was not at all overwhelming. The hash browns that came with it was HUGE! YUMMM! =9 I can't believe even the toast was so delicious. I didn't think we'd finish everything given the portions! BOTTOM LINE - SUPERB service (very attentive + friendly), EXCELLENT ambiance (close to Pike, very very clean, lots of open space), and very decent price for the portions. Oh yeah, they serve breakfast all day. ALL DAY! OMG WTH. I could eat here several times a day... =9 They also serve healthier stuff - oatmeals and fruits... and some other stuff that I can't recall. They have 12 different types of omelets and you can build your own! Of course. =) You might want to take a walk after you're done. Might is probably not a suggestion. =P

I work in the area, so always thought of it as a lunch place. Burgers are exceptional, not greasy at all. Try the french one with blue cheese and bacon, served on a french roll. Service is great and the servers are good looking. They have a lunch special menu too, which is nice. I really like the fact that it is reasonably priced American food place where the food isn't bogged down in too much oil and cheese.

Had their Penne Diablo pasta for lunch yesterday and it was amazing! It had just the perfect blend of spiciness to it. I will definitely be keeping my eyes out for that dish again.

My husband and I went here today for breakfast after reading some reviews. We had the yuppie omelette and cooked beef hash with eggs. We loved how fresh everything seemed, and not super greasy, even the red potatoes with scallions. I also had the rose mimosa, which was delicious! Definitely would recommend.

I would give this place 5 stars just because it is a neighborhood favorite but if I'm being absolutely honest and critical, it's not exactly gourmet...thus the 4 stars. THE FEEL: The words cluttered and crowded come to mind. The restaurant sits in a circular space surrounded by ceiling-to-floor windows. I liken it to being on a carousel. There are many tables set up in a cluttered, unorthodox fashion, much like the horses on a carousel. You must be slinky and docile in order to weave your way between tables as you walk through the restaurant. Despite all this, there is an energy that radiates from the place, like it's perfectly comfortable being hectic and carousel-like. They don't have outdoor seating per se but they can slide open their ceiling-to-floor windows so you are basically eating outside. I love when they do this a nice summer days. It's like eating out on a patio with a ceiling overhead. THE SERVICE: The staff is good. They are helpful and kind without being too pushy. They are usually very well staffed, with people that come around to fill your beverages often. THE FOOD: The food is great! It reminds me of high-end diner food with a home-cooked feel to it. Comforting and familiar. Good portions with lots of options and choices. I always go there for brunch and order the two eggs and bacon breakfast. I've also tried many of their omelets, eggs benedict, french toast, and pancakes. I'm not a huge fan of their gravy or hollandaise sauce. It's so thick and heavy -- I always order it on the side. If you do decide to get breakfast here YOU MUST ORDER THE RED POTATOES! They give you a choice between red potatoes and hashbrowns for breakfast and I'm telling you, get the red potatoes. They are much healthier compared to the hashbrowns because they're steamed and seasoned with herbs instead of pan-fried in butter, butter, and more butter. They are also covered in green onions which are a great compliment. They also offer a carb side dish (toast). Their toast isn't anything special but their sourdough is the best option. It's not too sour and it still has that artisan baked bread texture and flavor to it. There was one time I ordered off the lunch menu and I must admit, I was more than pleasantly surprised. I ordered the hot turkey sandwich (or maybe it was the open faced hot turkey sandwich) and it was amazing! So so so so good....the turkey is fresh from pike place market and it is delish! Me and my friends eat here almost every weekend for sat or sun brunch after a wild night on the town. Maybe I'll see you there next time.

A friend recommended this place as good for standard fare. When I saw the reuben sandwich with Market House meat, I ordered it. Not so good, very dry and the bread was not really rye. My friend had soup and reported that it was very bland. This place could use the Restaurant Impossible guy. Good intentions but...

I've been around this area for 10 years now. I have always avoided CJ's. I don't know why, maybe because it just doesn't look that appealing from the outside? Or that it's generally littered with cops? People have always told me it is good, but I never really listened. I'm just too close to the Mecca and Pesos. Well, I went one day and I'll tell you why. In Seattle, there are many places to eat breakfast, but of often boils down to one of 3 groups you have to deal with: Uppity, Scumbag, or Douchebag. When I want to deal with normalcy I go to CJ's. They have a pretty big menu, and they put bacon in their gravy, so yeah... No scumbags (Mecca) or Douchebags (Pesos) either. Everyone seemed to be wearing flannel too, which made it kind of like I was in the movie "Singles".

We've added this place to our must-visit list for when family comes out here to visit. I've had a couple of different specialty-named omelettes which wound up coming with a few ingredients which I would never have requested specifically, but I eat them as-is and everything there has tasted fantastic, down to the toast and potatoes that most meals come with.

oh my goodness...i had the most amazing breakfast. The boyfriend and I were staying at the Edgewater Hotel and we walked here. We ate twice here and had great service both times! Our food arrived so quickly and it was so busy all the time I'm happy to see their business doing great! We will definitely be going back!

I came here a lot when I first moved to Seattle (11 years ago) and really liked it. Better than a diner, but not upscale or yuppified. Then I stopped dating a girl that lived downtown and so I didn't go for almost 8 years. Went back recently to find, pleasantly, that nothing had changed. Still has a lot of really good breakfast food. Service is fairly snappy, and even when there's a line you don't wait forever like some places. The breakfast specials have enticed me several times (rare in itself) and the bagel, lox + capers are still one of my favorite breakfast dishes in all of Seattle. Nice kids menu (or just order a side of fruit for cheap) and plenty to please the pickiest breakfast eaters. It's a little cramped (can the wait staff learn to clear off the excess silverware when there's only 2 of us sitting at a 4-top please?) and I'm still not a fan of the glass coffee mugs, but otherwise, no complaints!

I must say that after we ate at this place, I really hate it!!!! We visited Seattle from California on vacation and we tried this place out. I really like eggs benedict and tried it all over California. I have never had more delicious eggs benedict then here. The reason why I hate it is because I'm 2 states away. The food was 5+ stars and the staff was great and friendly.

Eggs Benedict for breakfast was good, generous size portion of hash browns, fast service. My husband had some sort of potato hash dish that didn't have any flavoring at all. Pretty good size crowd for Friday breakfast.

Excellent breakfast all day! I had their delicious all-American skillet that had a great ham, egg, bell pepper, and potato ratio. The wait for food is a tad long, but worth it. Give CJ's Eatery a shot!

Spent the night downtown and we were looking for a good place on the way home...NOT a chain. Where else to look but Yelp. And Yelp stepped up. We figured a Sunday on a holiday weekend = a looonng wait. Wrong, they were really efficient in clearing/setting tables and getting people moved in/out. Super fast service, we had been at our table less than a minute and a very friendly waitress took our coffee order. I ordered the Scramble special (lox, cream cheese, capers and eggs). The eggs were so fluffy and perfect. Everything worked so well together. My husband had the Eggs Benedict and felt they were a little too salty. The hash browns were amazing. Crispy on the outside, fluffy and creamy on the inside. I wouldn't miss out if I were you. The decor...okay. but lots of windows for good Belltown people watching. I don't get into Seattle often for breakfast, but I would definitely put this on my short list. And I will be back, apparently there are blintzes with my name on them.

Y-U-M-M-Y Some friends and I have made Sunday brunch a kind of tradition now. We have tried many different breakfast places and CJ's might be my favorite so far. I ordered the veggie bene with avocado (& added tomato). I asked for my eggs to be cooked a little more than medium. This, for some reason, is very difficult for many restaurants. CJ's - YOU DID IT! The eggs were cooked perfectly, the hollandaise was so lemony delicious, the avocado was perfectly buttery ripe. The red potatoes were amazing. Oh, my mouth is watering... The ONLY reason they got 4 stars instead of 5 is because they don't serve bloody mary's, and for Sunday brunch, it's a must. My friends swear by their Sunday special breakfast burrito. They say it's the best breakfast burrito anywhere...ever. I believe it too. I just can't turn down a good benedict.

I LOVE CJ's. Eggs benedict is delicious and never disappoints. I love their wait staff, super friendly and attentive and always cheerful. I always say, when I eat out and I expect good service, and the service is great for how much you pay per plate. I've never waited more than 10 minutes for a table and it's always packed (I've always gone on Sunday around noonish). Great portions for excellent prices!

Being new to Seattle and the Belltown area of town, I turned to Yelp to once again help me find some of the local brunch spots to try out. My girlfriend and I made it to CJ's on a rare sunny, Sunday morning to be somewhat surprised at how busy the restaurant was. In hindsight we probably shouldn't have been too shocked, it was a nice day out, it was Sunday, and we showed up around 11am, the prime brunching hour. After a 20 minute wait in the packed lobby area, we were quickly seated and had hot coffee in our mugs shortly after that. The service was prompt, attentive, and non-snarky, which was somewhat surprising seeing as how it was a bit of a madhouse in there and it could have been quite easy to forget about a table amongst the chaos. The food was quite good, we both had omelets. Mine: the Bourbon something-or-other with andouille sausage, Hers: the Greek complete with olives and feta. Both were delicious and came with a hefty serving of hash browns and toast. Well worth the wait, and not overly priced. Now that I now exactly where CJ's is located, and I have thoroughly familiarized myself with the lobby/waiting area, I'll be sure to return in the very near future.

Our last day here in Seattle, so we asked the hotel staff for their recommendation. We had Lolas yesterday (superb - but we wanted something a bit cheaper) They recommended CJ's (quote "worth the walk in the rain") We walked in the front door and saw that they were smoking busy. The girl at the front counter seated us right away, then a guy came with water and coffee, and shortly after, another girl came to take our order. Smiling faces on all of them - genuine smiles, too! another girl brought our orders. I drink a LOT of coffee..and they wouldnt let me cup get empty. Love that! I had the pancake combo, with a side of bacon. - Swedish style panckes (thin and large, but not crepes). Eggs were poached perfectly, and the bacon was thick - and delicious. Wife had the french toast combo - comes with eggs and fresh fruit. plenty of food here. Thick toast, cooked well. Scrambled eggs were nothing special; the fresh fruit was great. plates were cleared off quickly, and another lady brought our bill. Card was scooped up and returned to us with a "Thank you. Jason." The food isnt quite 5 star, but the service is 5+. friendly, fast, delicious, and inexpensive. Sad that we are leaving seattle today, but glad we've been treated so well here. Thanks for having us!

Sitting at the table here after a great breakfast. The service and food were great. Andrea and the whole staff were really nice and quick with everything. Good location between pike place and the needle. If your looking for a breakfast or brunch spot go here.

Rolled by her during a recent visit to the Northwest. Portions and food were all of good quality. Nothing super "unique" about its brunch plates. I will say that on the outside it looks like an office. Sooo weird.

Was in Seattle during the July 4th week & someone at the Edgewater recommended CJ's for breakfast. I absolutely LOVED it there! Excellent food & service! Went back the next day & equally as good. Wanted to go back a third day but our waitress Shannon (who was great as well & DDG) may have thought I was stalking her haha.. Will definitely be back next time I'm up north. Highly recommend.

Blueberry Pancakes? That's what I go there for. It's an occasional pilgrimage that never disappoints. The pancakes are swedish style, very thin, well-cooked, and come with real maple syrup. Sometimes when feeling my inner cavern needs filling, I also order a 'Leo', no longer on the menu, but it's scrambled eggs with lox, and the red potatoes. Yum! There are blintzes as well. It's a unique menu with some pleasant surprises. They have a large lunch menu, but I can't help but order breakfast, so you'll have to explore that on your own! Also daily breakfast and lunch specials. The servers are friendly, fast, and the operation runs smoothly. The only thing I don't like is the coffee, which is "pre-coffee-evolution" old-fashioned dark hot water. But nobody's perfect, and many restaurants that come close to 'perfection' can be pretty damn annoying and full of themselves. CJ'S is good without hype. Give 'em a try! PS: Weekends are crowded in the mornings.

I love this place. We come in here at least once a week on the weekend for some delicious brunch feel-good-go-into-coma food. The service is friendly, fast and efficient. The specials are unique and I wouldn't mind ordering one of the specials but my favorite is the Barnyard omelet with bacon and cheddar. Plus, sides of hash brown and toast. The portion size is large and fit for a king/queen. Bottom-line: Delicious breakfast food to start the day at affordable price and great service with a smile!

  • Jonathan N.

I guess it's OK for what you pay for. The service is definitely excellent, just like you'd expect from a friendly diner. I went for lunch, so can't comment on all these crazy breakfast-eaters. For lunch, their food is just meh. It's all pretty simple stuff, sort of like mom used to make but probably could have learned to do better. Salad is topped with diced tomatoes, mushrooms, cucumbers... very minimum-effort 1970's cooking. You can picture the cooks (no chefs here) just following the instructions to make the food, and minimum-step instructions at that.

Always get great service here & these are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet! They have a large menu as well...we're big fans of the biscuits & gravy, especially when they offer the version with chorizo! Be sure to check out their list of specials on the weekends...there are some really cool choices sometimes!

HAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw hair on my gf's omelette. Was hoping to get some more action than just apology from their side, but nothing past that. Everything went well.. overpriced triple toast $7.50ish, normal omelette $8 or $9ish.. and very attentive service.. until the hair problem. Usually I just won't mind at all -since not everything perfect lol, but for some reason I just wanted to complained and see how far they gonna go to please their customer.. since it's 4 solid stars breakfast joint on yelp! I complained on server A, she told me that I'm not her table, and she will let my server know. I was like.. o-kayyyy... When our server arrived, she just said that she's sorry and that wasn't her hair. ... ._. I don't give a damn if it's your hair or someone else. Just do something more than apologize.. a discount, coupon or whatever you can do to please us, the customer. Oh, she did ask if I wanted something else.. Of course I won't say.. 'can you give me discount since there's a hair in your omelette?' or 'so the omelette going to be free?' .. I'd look freakin nuts! I mean come on!! I shouldn't be the one asking for that since it's YOUR fault! It went down quickly from 4 stars to 3 to 2.

The worst breakfast that I've ever had in a restaurant. At least it's the worst I can remember. It's an "early bird special" kind if a place with a decor that looks like the cafeteria of a hospital or senior center. One that was built in the early 80s. Ordered the corn beef hash which came burnt and unseasoned. The side of sausage was also burnt and looked reheated from the previous day. The eggs benedict was VERY SALTY. So salty that I couldn't eat them at all. Would probably taste better if they switched to a different ham. On a good note... The grits were pretty good and the hash browns were perfect! But that isn't enough to warrant a repeat visit.

I just moved into the Belltown neighborhood and was scoping out Brunch spots. CJ's was one of the first on the list of neighborhood breakfast highlights, so I decided to try it. The food was good, but nothing special. I had the Eggs Benedict and didn't like the way they prepared it. The ham was shredded, instead of one thick slice. Also, the hash browns were not crispy, which is how I prefer them. I did like the flavor the sauce on the benedict though! I give CJ's three stars, because the ham and the hash browns are both personal preference, not necessarily indicative that CJ's isn't a good place to eat. I will probably try CJ's again, but just order something different.

  • Andrea H.

After looking at other reviews on Yelp for other breakfast suggestions, I can't help but seem to notice how all other diners fail in comparison on the service and food reviews. Sure CJ's isn't perfect but we decided this morning not to risk another disappointing experience elsewhere and head to CJ's for mimoas and a great breakfast.

Wow, what a great surprise! I haven't been here in years and forgot how good it is and the price is right too. Had the biscuits and gravy served with eggs and hashbrowns for $7.95. Can't beat that and it was good. Definately will go again!

I love coming here for breakfast or a quick lunch, it's somewhat pricey but they give you large portions and it tastes great. The beer selection isn't phenomonal. And it does have that nursing home, mid tier upscale hospital dining room window seat vibe to it but if you're looking for good hearty portions and friendly service. this place does it's job. gave it an extra star because bathroom is sexy.

  • Cameron M.

I am giving CJ's a four star because I've only been there once so far. But wow, that breakfast that I just had today was super good. The wait wasn't bad when we went there as well today, but I've seen the line around the corner once. So you never know I guess at a popular place. The wait staff was good and friendly. Helpful about the drinks and the meal. I had the Chicken friend steak, and it was super good. I'm on a quest to find some of the best chicken fried steak in the Seattle area!!! The gravy was the best part on it as well, the staff woman that told me was right! I had sourdough toast, and hash browns. All was good with my meal and can't wait to go again!!

This review is based on the Denver Omelet. Let me start my review with I am not from Seattle and I don't like most of the food here in Seattle. I am from the Midwest and I love Southern Comfort Foods. Gimme Steak or Fried Chicken, Biscuits and Gravy or anything with Bacon, Gravy or Fresh Baked Bread and Butter and I will be happy. My boss is from the East Coast and he kept telling my how good the food was here so I decided to stop in and try it one morning. The coffee is good. The omelet was so-so. I don't get excited over omelets. I have had omelets before that were VERY good. This was not one of them. It wasn't bad. It just didn't make me say YUM that was delicious. My breakfast mediocre at best. I should have had the French Toast.

Rumors of CJ's Eatery in Belltown being closed are greatly exagerated. I just ate a wonderful breakfast there this morning as I have been doing on Sundays for many years now and the food and service remain outstanding. If you are a tourist then check this place out because if you are a local you already must have heard about how good it is from plenty of faithful patrons and are one yourself now too. I now know I cant count on Yelp as a reliable source because they have listed C.J.'s Eatery as being closed. Thank goodness this is a peer to peer review site because I can count on all the great reviews for CJ's and I can always count on CJ's food! Come-on Yelp! Fix this error of CJ's being CLOSED, which was probably posted by a competitor that cant compete with such a great restaurant.

I love Cj's. I've been coming here for 6 years or so, since before I even moved to Seattle. I miss living in Belltown and being able to just walk down the street to get here. Now I live in Beacon Hill, which requires a bit more effort, but it is well worth it. I always get the biscuits and gravy or the french toast. Both are super delicious. I've also tried a few omelettes, also tasty. Service is always friendly and prompt. Will keep coming back as long as they are open!

Fantastic breakfast! The yorguty and fruit my husband got didn't skimp on the fruit, the granola was flavorful and it was a vanilla yogurt. My french toast was made from challah(??) bread and it was light and fluffy and nummy. So! No complaints! Service was great, food was great and of course I just love Seattle so everything worked out great! ;D

Andrea knew she was giving poor service, you could see it on her face, she just didn't care to be attentive. We've been wanting to try this place for a few years but always defaulted to Lucky Diner across the street. We finally opted for CJs and my companion immediately went to the restroom after we were seated. A long while later, I'm sitting tall and looking around to catch the eye of whomever is supposed to be attending to us and saw Andrea head over to me. Andrea's first words to me were, "should I wait for the other person to come back to the table or do you know what you want for breakfast?" My response: "well, I would really like to order some beverages first if that's alright." Why no friendly greeting? Why no offer to bring me coffee or a Mimosa. . . on Mother's day Sunday during late-brunch (it was not terribly busy when I was there). The food was okay for the price point. I think the kitchen did it right and the server left it in the window too long. My eggs came out wrong, I had to ask for it to be made right and she graciously took it back to be remade and it came out wrong again and you could see her looking right at the hard yolk with a slight wince, knowing she was giving me a wrong egg all over again, but she still gave it to me and quickly took off and never came back to see how things were. When it was obvious that we were not being taken care of, other servers would come over and offer coffee or water refills and after sitting at a table full of empty plates for about 10 minutes or so, someone did kindly offer to take them away. I never complained, except to give the lowest tip I can remember giving in probably 10 years (10% is a token obligatory tip and more than she earned for her token, obligatory drive-up window order taking style service). Mediocrity is a sure sign of eventual failure for a restaurant in a city like Seattle that is brimming with blow you away food and enthusiastically attentive and professional service. Sorry CJs, I was really hoping for better and I can't think of any reason to bother coming back.

This is a favorite for a very dear friend of mine, so I'll be gentle : ) I was here for brunch a few weeks back, and this place specializes in the most important meal of the day. I was craving pancakes, but saw French toast on the menu, and I never got to taste the pancakes. The French toast came smelling good, but the minute I dove into it with my fork and knife, I was disappointed by the soggy oily texture. Add to that some strawberry goo inside and a good tablespoon of butter on top. Eh. Thanks, but no thanks. I ordered two poaches eggs with toast, a mimosa, which came promptly after, and the day was getting bright again. So, overall, it's an ok place to have a plain breakfast. If you want something fancier, find alternatives.

While searching for a new brunch, a friend recommended CJ's as having the best pancakes, so we tried it out. I opted for the biscuits & gravy and thought they were just okay. You've got your choice of hashbrowns or red potatoes - I went with the reds, which were very tasty. The gravy was alright, but the sausage contained therein seemed like a cut up hot dog (or maybe little smokies?). The boy's blueberry pancake however, was reportedly fabulous. The best thing I had was a variation on the standard mimosa: something that added strawberry to the mix. It was HUGE and fairly cheap ($5) and satiated my "hair of the dog" craving. As for atmosphere: there really is none. I kind of felt like we were in a Las Vegas hotel buffet. Still, good service and late breakfast may compel me to come here again. I'd try it - but maybe stick to the pancake recc. next time.

While I lived in Belltown, this was the usual weekend brunch place. Good food, down-to-earth & friendly wait staff, and neat cocktails (mimosas are wonderful here and they also have red beer for you midwesterners out there :) ). Lots of homey favorites here!

YUM! Delicious breakfast. This place always tastes great! It's better than your average diner breakfast. Somehow, the food here is just tastier. Can't explain -- maybe it's the quality or cooks, it's just always really damn good!!!

Edit - After writing this, I wound up coming here every weekend (and often on the weekdays) for a couple of years. Amazing place, amazing wait staff (who I've gotten to know well). This is another great breakfast place in belltown. When I walked in, there were several people waiting for a table and I was pretty sure I was going to have a long wait. However, I was surprised that the staff keeps things moving along and we were seated within a few minutes. Despite the suggestions to try a eggs benedict, I went for one of the omelette versions and loved it. The place is slightly pricier than I would have expected though.

I've been living two blocks away from CJ for a year. I always walked by, and even in the hungriest and desperately starving for food state of mind I never stopped by. Why? Maybe there is something about the faded green sign and standard American-eatery-décor. Maybe, the noun "eatery" repulsed my subconsciousness. But finally I went there. Because Yelpers like it. And I like checking out Yelpers' taste. Someone wrote that CJ has the best benedict in town. Best benedict, hm. It makes me think of Glo's. I check out all the "best benedicts" in town. That's my hobby. Well, apparently, they do not serve benedict on weekdays. Good to know. So, I ordered a Greek omelette. You cannot go wrong with Greek omelettes anyhow. I found out that Greek omlettes exist with yellow onion instead of the red one. I scrupulously dug the onion pieces out and collected them on a side of my plate. The pile grew. It became half size of my dish. My Greek omelette, stripped naked from its onion abundance, had cheap canned diced olives, tomatoes and bleakly tasting feta. Booooorrrrriiiinnngg! When I substituted my potatoes with fresh fruit, I expected a cup of sad-looking fruits, staring fearfully at me from the cup. Well, no! It was fresh! And moreover! They brought a good chunk of ice-cold watermelon. Mmmm. (Hello, lovely Marina H.) I forgave them my giant pile of onions and the place's overall mediocricity. I sat near the window, on a sunny day, enjoying my watermelon, making every passerby jealous by heaving a juicy junk of watermelon in my posession. I do not give extra stars just for big portions unless it's a giant mimosa, which CJ proudly provides. And, yeah, the portions are big. Giant mimosa + watermelon cuteness + quick service equals 2.69 stars in my humble opinion. Rounding the numbers, makes it sound a bit better than what I really think it should be rated at, but hey, it's my first review, I should be a little nicer.

The BEST weekend breakfast! If you've ever read another review by me, you're aware of my love for bacon and of all places that serve it. Plan to wait a couple minutes, but it's never terribly long . . . This is a hot spot for our local police force so you know it's good . . . Police are breakfast connoisseurs, right? Or is that just doughnuts? Anyway, if you're looking for traditional good breakfast fare, dis is dah place!

CJ'S is hands down THE go-to place for breakfast in my book. I have been to many places in Seattle and I could almost write a book about the different breakfast experiences I've had. I always feel like they have taken care of me...kinda like my mother making me a satisfying breakfast when I was young. I usually get the bacon and eggs with red potatoes. Always 5 star. The owner is true sweetheart, as she was there from the beginning when they were down the street as AJ'S. I'm thoroughly impressed that she still works the breakfast shift on weekends as a server. ( years ago she would be a waitress) Their coffee is strong and it's g o o d !!! If you are in search of a great place for breakfast in Seattle.. I would recommend CJ'S in a New York minute. Don't waste your money on places at Pike Place Market. Eat here first, Then hit the market...you'll be in a much better frame of mind.

This is one of my favorite places for breakfast. Lately, I seem to have become a regular and it's certainly not the cafeteria style decor that keeps me coming back.... It's the pancakes... those thin crispity edged pancakes (just had for breakfast this morning)... and the very best eggs benedict I've found anywhere in Seattle. The hollandaise is deliciously rich and tangy and the eggs are always perfectly poached. And not that I need them, but I just discovered that on weekends, you can get grits instead of potatoes!!! Grits! Crikey, that's exciting! The eggs benedict are only served on weekends and the weekend crowd can be rather intimidating if you get here late (read 10:30). But don't be deterred. The staff is friendly and efficient.... they manage to turn the tables pretty quickly without making anyone feel rushed. Just keep in mind that they won't seat you until your entire party is there and ready to eat. I would like a pancake now. Hrrrmmmm.

WE LOVE CJ'S! Leaving Seattle after one year of living up the street from this place and we're really going to miss it! The portions huge, the food fattening and greasy and oh so delicious! The coffee's good and the wait staff just keeps it coming, "warmer?", "yes please!"! No matter how busy they are, we've never had to wait (more than 2minutes). The food comes out hot and quick. Fast turn over of tables. I get the same thing every time, bacon and cheddar scramble with sour dough toast, OJ, coffee and tomatoes instead of potatoes:) My favorite breakfast anywhere! Hubby gets something different each time, and often chooses one of the specials, and clears his plate moaning from a full belly in a matter of minutes. A lot of yummy breakfast for a good price too!

My favorite place for breakfast! The french toast is excellent. The champagne drinks are tasty, moderately priced, and a nice size. The staff is friendly, speedy, and attentive. Don't be discouraged by a crowd at the door, they are usually pretty quick in getting people in and seated. Their busiest time seems to be Sunday around 11a to noon. Breakfast is served until close (which is 3:00pm daily) and lunch is served started at 11:00am. CJs seems to be family friendly, so don't be surprised to see a kid sitting on the floor with a coloring book. CJs is a must for breakfast in the Belltown area!

I have mixed feelings about my experience at CJ's. I'm a total breakfast lover. I'm a brinner lover too. On this particular morning, I was looking for a big, protein-y breakfast. The service was fantastic. We were seated quickly. Our drinks and waitress came right away. Our food came pretty fast too, especially considering how busy they were on this Saturday morning. Our water glasses were never empty. My husband ordered the corned beef hash. Made in-house CBH is always a winner in my book. It seemed alright, but I don't know that he'd order it again. I ordered the Eggs Diablo (english muffin, sliced pork loin, poached eggs, all topped with tons of cheese and a spicy Diablo sauce). Like other reviewers mentioned, things are salty. My dish had great flavor, but was the kind of salty that doesn't seem too overwhelming now, but you can't eat very much of it for fear of your tongue. The coffee was just ok. So that being said about the food, I really loved the feel of the place. It is the EXACT kind of breakfast experience I'm looking for. Lots of hustle and bustle. Privately owned. Friendly staff. Big menu. And I will definitely go back to try some of their other offerings.

For diner food this place is great! The staff is friendly and incredibly on task. Not a glass went unfilled, nor a coffee cup topped off. The potatoes were very good and however the pancake's are a little "crepe'y" if that's even a word. All in all we had a really good time eating here.

Despite the Yelpalanche of breakfast suggestions, I felt like lunch today so I ordered the matzoh ball soup and the daily sandwich special, which was a Philly-steak sub with roast beef instead of steak. When I ordered the soup, I kind of felt like I got a raised eyebrow, given that I'm ostensibly a goy, but it may have been more motivated by concern that I didn't know what I was getting myself into. Well, I have in fact eaten matzoh ball soup before, and your could stand for a little more salt in the matzoh. The broth was well-seasoned though, so I can accept a little casual bigotry. The sandwich was nothing amazing - a little tough, but had good flavor. The decor is clean, bright, and surprisingly spacious for Belltown. Compared to other midday breakfast haunts, CJ's is definitely the largest and most modern that I've been to. Its simple style belies the complexity of its flavors.

Things that happened at CJs this morning. 1. Our wonderful waitress put a candle on a Mickey Mouse shaped pancake for my nephew for his 5th bday... (complete with a smiley face made of strawberries and bacon) 2. I ate enough garlic to be vampire proof (yummmeh) 3. Dad, Stepmom and sis were all pleased with food (sister is regular at CJs) 4. We left with full tummies, a joyous 5 year old, and me smelling like garlic. YUM

CJ's is perfect for when you want breakfast in the afternoon. Their biscuits and gravy, with the bacon and sausage gravy, is simply a tastegasm waiting to happen. I have yet to have a bad or even mediocre meal when ordering breakfast from CJ's. Their lunch menu items are decent, but none of the sandwiches i've tried their stand out as anything to rave about. After eating any of them, I usually just wish i had ordered something from the breakfast menu and resolve to do so next time I come in. If you're craving breakfast and not worried about counting calories, I highly recommend hitting up CJ's and trying their Biscuits and Gravy.

Been a long time guest at CJs, last few times, very disappointing. Chicken Fried Chicken and Eggs, and if you change from the chorizo gravy to just country gravy, they charge you for different gravy, yesterday showed up for breakfast, party of two, could see 3 or 4 open 4 top tables, but they would not seat anyone until they had a 2 top open. Time to move to Lucky's Dinner across the street.

Normally, I'm the kind of gal that has an opinion and sticks to it! And if I had written this review a year ago, it probably would have been with 5 stars and rave reviews. However, per my prerogative as a woman, my opinion is waning the longer I feast there on hangover weekends...or even when I'm not hung over. The good: They have hands down some of the best specials I have ever had. I once had this southwestern egg bake thing and it was AMAZING. Since it was my first experience there, it did enough to bring me back for more. They also occasionally have this spicy chorizo biscuits and gravy that I have slightly inappropriate dreams about. There have also been several other specials that float my proverbial boat, but as several have warned, be warned about the over usage of onions. Also, when the other options in the area consist of dirty 5 Point Café and the back-a** nasty new place that replaced Mimi's (I think they named it like Whym or something mind numbing like that), CJ's offers a clean and contemporary option with plenty of seating even if you might have to wait for it. The bad: they are sticklers about substitutions. And I mean STICKLERS. To the point were they are basically ripping you off. For example, if you want to substitute say tomatoes for the spinach in your omelet, you either have to build your own which comes out to about $3 more than ordering one of the pre-made ones or have them remove the spinach, add the tomato, and pay an extra $1.50. Example B) you can not substitute toast or hash browns for the fruit with the extremely yummy challa french toast even if you are allergic to just about every fruit ever grown on earth. Either way, you're going to end up paying more for any dish if you have dietary or allergic requirements. They are totally unwavering in the need to make an extra buck in an effort to discourage you from creating more work for them. The bottom line: If you are looking for an amazing meal, plan on getting one of the specials, because the basic menu can be rather boring...but satisfying when it's 11am and you've become to hungry that your stomach is screaming that if you attempt to make your own food you might eat the entire kitchen. Also, don't plan on saving a dollar or two...they won't let you! In the end tho, I will be back...just like I always am.

I feel I must update my prior review. As I mentioned previously, I've been coming here for years, but I hadn't tried their french toast until yesterday. Being diabetic I don't usually order it, because... well... bread + powdered sugar + syrup = coma. However, I was in the mood and figured I'd take a brisk walk home and burn off some of those carbs. What a brilliant plan! Their french toast is delicious! It's made with thick, soft slices of fresh challah and is dipped in an unassuming but good cinnamon batter. It was served with a scoop of whipped butter and a side of fresh fruit. It's not fancy the way some brunch places do it up, but it was fantastic and reminded me of french toast I've had in NYC.

For me, I put service and effort up at the top - and they deliver! The menu is pretty diverse and my family of 6 all had something different and all had a pretty good meal. They were slammed but they were operating on all cylinders that Sunday morning - they made timely checks on our satisfaction and needs. Definitely a hot spot on Sunday mornings for good reason!

This place won't win any design awards, in fact it looks like the restaurant of a large chain hotel, but the straightforward diner food is tasty and the service is friendly and great.

Great breakfast selection with some good omelete choices. I tried the Queen Anne omelete with chicken, broccoli, tomato and havarti and is was very tasty. My bf enjoyed his greek omelete as well. Service was quick and very friendly. The restaurant is low-key and comfortable and certainly worth a future visit!

So, this place is nice for when you want to go out to eat, but don't want to spend too much, or don't have a lot of time. I can see it from my window at work, so we tend to go there for lunch a lot. They would prefer that if you plan to show up with more than six people that you call ahead so they can set up a spot for you all. As for the food, I have enjoyed everything I've gotten so far. They have daily or weekly specials, and I've had really good luck from those. I think last time I ate there I had some fancy schmancy salad. The greens were dark and fresh and it was delicious. The service is usually pretty fast as well. I think only once have they been a little backed up, but it was lunch time and they always seem to be super busy during that time.

I LOOOOOVVVVE coming here for breakfast!! I love meeting people here for breakfast! I am not fond of eggs. Ask anyone that knows me! I will eat their scramblers since they are generous with the ingredients they mix with the eggs. I usually ask for the cheddar and bacon. That helps me eat the eggs. I know some eggs are good for you. The meal would come with potatoes (I ask for crispy hash browns) and bread (get the sourdough bread!!) Sometimes, I will order the specials if It appeals to me. I also order the Rose mimosa instead of regular mimosa! Mmmmm! I have tried the Black Dahlia mimosa, too! Both are good! :-)

Absolutely tremendous! I was born in New York, and grew up close to Jersey, so I've been to many diners in my time, and this is the closest approximation to the East Coast diner I've ever seen in Seattle. Follow the crowds. The wait during Saturday or Sunday brunch is typically 15-45 minutes, but worth it! The service is great, and the selection is incredible. Breakfast is served all day, but the lunch options (served after 11:00 AM) are quite good as well. I'm a big fan of the Hot Manhattan frittata, which comes with salsa, sausage, and peppers. Good stuff! Also try the French toast if you like a sweet breakfast! This is the best hangover food in Seattle, period. Drink up, my friends, for a wonderful meal awaits you in the morning to heal your liver.

All you need to know about this place is the COUNTRY FRIED STEAK!!! with bacon/sausage gravy, hash browns, eggs and toast!!!! don't even look at the menu, just order that!! it will be hard to find this dish just as good elsewhere. one of my favorite brunch places!!!

In Seattle from California and wanted to find a nice place for breakfast. Parking is an issue all around Pike Market but we were willing to pay and walk if necessary. Lucky for us, before going to the area we Yelped breakfast places and found good reviews about CJ's... My husband and I parked about four blocks away towards the market. We were so surprised at how friendly CJ staff was. What a great experience we had there. Coffee was hot and strong the way we like it. My husband and I enjoyed our breakfast so much that I decided to write. The menu is huge and if you can't find something you like you are way too picky. Beyond a great place to eat the staff was so friendly and attentive. We don't come to Seattle often but when we do this will be our first stop!

I'm super lucky because CJ's is like a block away from where I live and I love it. I get the same thing every time..PANKCAKES! They make the best pancakes. I swear there is so much grease in them that they would cure a hangover any time!! I also laugh at the menu, because they serve a variety of jewish foods (ie. matzo ball soup), but then they have a potato pancake with bacon - not so kosher!!

We're CJ's regulars every Sunday morning. Sonia, the owner is always right on target with a happy "Good Morning" and Paul always has our coffee ready when he sees us coming down the sidewalk...could you ask for better service...I think not! If you want great breakfast, good service and a cast of friendly folks....this is your breakfast spot.

Cj's looks like it is straight out of the 1990's. I thought it would be ridden with elderly's and their families. I was happily surprised. CJ's was pretty good. There are several more places in Seattle I would go to first, but if you are staying in Belltown, it's a pretty nice joint.

The waitress forgot to bring us silverware and menus. We all ordered the beef hash. Apparently, that's what they're known for. I liked the taste a lot, but the shredded potato was under-cooked and the beef a little burnt. In general, the service was negligent, but another waitress did bring us a dish of complimentary Swedish pancakes, thanks to another costumer changing his mind. It made up for the poor service. :)

I adore this place! I live on the hill but will trek all the way down to belltown for brunch. The staff is great and always friendly, even remembered me and my friends between visits. A couple times the wait for food was a little long but understandable on a super busy Sunday morning. Totally worth it though.

This place is very good! I was in Seattle and had no idea where to go, it was also my birthday. Some places in downtown are pretty expensive but this place wasn't that bad in price. But the food was amazing. I got the Corn Beef Hash....SUPER good! I never had it before and I must say I would get it again and again. We went to a diff place that was over priced and food wasn't that great, coming made my vacation better. It was the perfect breakfast morning for my birthday. I will come here again next time I come visit Seattle. Over-all : great food, not bad prices!! Must go place.

This place was totally awesome. We're in Seattle on vacation and wanted an awesome breakfast, so we looked up some places on Yelp. This place lived up to its great reviews! A block from where we're staying, this little place has a pretty simple atmoshpere, great big windows for people-watching and makes a great place to stop on the way to the Seattle Center. Hubby and I had full breakfasts with coffee, our 2 y.o. got a kids breakfast and it came to $30. I got the Manhattan Frittata and it was hot and tasty (Uli's Italian sausage is the bomb btw), fresh sliced tomatoes, and a nice big toasted onion bagel with cream cheese (and lots and lots of good hot coffee). The pancakes my son got were thin like crepes but had a toasty sugary consistency- he ate most of it (which means its really really good!). I would definitely recommend this place, good food, good service and fair price.

This place is BOMB! I would say that this is one of the best, if not the best, breakfast places in Seattle. The food is great and the waiters, waitresses and hostesses are very friendly, attentive, and compassionate. This is the place I go to after partying all night in Belltown as it's only a block away from my house. You have to have the Rose` mimosa. Great for a hangover and to give you balance. The omelettes are delicious and so are the home fried potatoes (called red potatoes here in Seattle). This place even has GRITS! What more could you ask for!!!

CJ's has a tofu scramble? Say what? Yes, it's true. I didn't think I would easily find something to eat, but there it was on the menu, staring at me. The scramble was average but the service was great and my friends really enjoyed their non-vegan food.

Best breakfast in Belltown, if not Seattle! Co-workers and I come here often after our overnight shift, since it's very close to our office. Their breakfast happy hour deals are fantastic. Nice staff and excellent food, every single time! Large selection for breakfast & lunch and I have never been disappointed with what I've ordered. CJs also serves beer and mimosas!

We had a late breakfast at CJ's Eatery this morning, Sunday 4 Sept,2011. It was very busy with a number of groups waiting for a table. As a couple, we got seated quickly and could not have been more impressed with how attentive was the service. The scramble my wife had got high praise, and I had the Chicken Fried Steak which was ...OK, but the gravy was excellent with a real "tang." We both had the sourdough toast and it had a great crust and wonderful texture. I am not sure we have ever had such a great "team" of wait staff for water and coffee refills.

Fine for your typical American breakfast. The coffee was good for a diner, but the food was somewhat bland and overall somewhat lacking. Fine for your eggs, bacon and omelets, but I wouldn't recommend them beyond that.

  • Premshree P.

I don't get the fuss about this place. I mean, to be fair, it's not bad at all, but I was expecting an interesting menu. It has the usual diner fare. I had the blueberry pancakes, which had fresh, whole blueberries: it was decent; one of my friends had a frittata and found it just OK. My cappuccino was disappointing. The food being nothing to talk home about, I wish they at least had good plating, but no (but hey, this is America, one never expects beautiful food except in fancy places). Maybe this should be three-stars, but I saw all these wonderful reviews on yelp and was totally disappointed. So, go there if you're in the hood. Oh, and if you're here on a weekend, you might have to wait quite a bit to be seated. I wouldn't go there the next time I'm in Seattle.

My first exposure to CJ's was on St. Patrick's Day. Normally this wouldn't be such a big deal, but it so happened that day there was a run of some sort through that neighborhood. My friends and I walked in to find many be-spandexed people wearing green and waiting for a table. It was packed. We decided to rough it out and wait for a table. I had my doubts but after about 15 minutes, we got a table. These guys know what they are doing. We got water and coffee right away, placed our orders and within about 10 minutes, were served. I was expecting a longer wait due to the influx of patrons who were in there because of the run, but they served us fast and were very friendly. The food was great too. I would go back anytime, hopefully when it's less busy but I don't think it would matter either way. Top notch service.

Worst biscuits and gravy of all time. I was so sad that I didn't enjoy the food here because I had heard so many nice things about this place. My friend lives right up the block so we decided to try CJ's the other day :( Disappointing. All the people who worked there were really nice if that is any consolation. Well at least I had a nice cup of tea with my meal.

I wasn't too impressed. The service was slow. We were seated before two tables but we were served after them. I ordered two eggs and a ham steak breakfast. The ham steak was way overcooked and the red potatoes were cold. My toast was over done too with some black edges. My wifes chicken fried steak was good and the gravy had nice flavor. The waitress was kind enough to split her plate with another lady who went with us at no extra charge. The coffee was good.

CJ's is probably my favorite place to go for Breakfast in Seattle (especially now that the Crocodile has closed). It's biggest problem is that it's everyone else's favorite too! It's very hard to get a table, especially for Sunday brunch. CJ's has great coffee, terrific fresh juices, and awesome scrambles (I recommend the special, whatever it is).

  • David N.

We stayed a block away from this restaurant but this is the only place in Seattle that we went to twice for any meal. The breakfast menu is served all day and I always tried the special scramble of the day. If you like grits like I do, you can only get them on the weekends. Very comfortable atmosphere, you seat yourself so get a nice window on the street. Portions were large and tasty, and the cranberry juice was so ice cold!

  • Jei Y.

Really great breakfast food - the specials are awesome, the coffee is good (lots of refills too!). A couple of friends recommended this place for weekend brunch, and I'm impressed. Service was fine until the very end - took a little while to get our check processed. Still, I'd come back for another scramble.

  • Carmel P.

I rate this in the terms of good place to nurse a hangover, since that is what it seems like most people here are doing on a Sunday morning (or early afternoon--you naughties!). I like the Swedish pancakes here, but then I love pancakes in almost any form they take so there's some bias in there. It's really more like 3.5 stars since service can be a little spotty sometimes, and of course it is in no way a gourmet establishment--but it's good and does the job. I don't know if they have them anymore, but M-F they have *cheap* and tasty early bird breakfast specials.

Excellent breakfast with the highest quality local ingredients. CJ's dishes out large serving sizes at reasonable prices. This is what breakfast should be. I'd recommend trying something made with one of Uli's awesome sausages.

Amazing place. First place I found that serves breakfast "all day." First time I went, I was with my family and we were blearly, desperately finding any place to eat, and some native pointed out this wonderful find. Great service, got in, sat down, and started ordering. Their biscuits and gravy, their specialty chicken fried chicken slathered in chorizo gravy was so good. Actually, anything in gravy was pretty much amazing - their crispy hash browns are to die for btw. My sister got the swedish pancakes, and whew, they were humongous and fluffy and oh-so-good. The scramblers aren't the best, neither is their yogurt and fruit combo, but all in all, I would definitely find my way back to Seattle to eat here.

  • Kelly N.

I went here after reading all the great reviews about the chicken fried steak on yelp. When we arrived there were 20 or so people in the lobby waiting but no one taking names. It was a couple minutes before someone that worked there came into the lobby and finally put our name on the list. After we were seated it was quite a while before the server came. When I ordered the chicken fried steak she informed me that they ran out! Considering this was the only reason I went here I was very disappointed. I decided to get the biscuits and gravy and a side of italian sausage. The gravy that everyone raves about was not what I expected. It was very sweet and had a strange taste that I couldn't quite figure out. I did not like it. My husband did not either. The sausage was room temperature. It was as if it had been sitting out all morning and they just put it on a plate and gave it to me. After eating, it took the waitress 15 minutes to come back to the table to give us our check. We looked around for her that entire time and never saw her anywhere. I will definitely NOT go back here and would not recommend it.

I like CJ's, but let's be honest, it's basically Belltown's version of Denny's. It has slightly better quality food, better decore and hipster waitresses, but the core menu is pretty much the same as Denny's. All the dishes I've had there were pretty good, but in my opinion it's pretty hard to screw up dishes like pancakes, french toast, and sandwiches and not screwing up easy to cook dishes doesn't get you a lot of extra points in my book.

Some coworkers and I thought it would be fun to take a breakfast outing...so Friday was our day. We picked CJ's based on the Yelp reviews, but I have to say it didn't live up to the hype. It was acceptable, but nothing special. There were a few low points too...Swedish pancakes w/o Lingonberries...seriously???? Even IHOP has lingonberries!!!! Freeze dried hash browns are just disgusting and have no place in a quality breakfast establishment! But the omelets and scrambles were fabulous and the meats were superior to that found in most places. Our waitress also kindly brought the home fries to try when we noted that the HB's weren't up to snuff. These were great so stick with them over the HB's. So go here if you need an all day breakfast fix, but you can find better if you are a breakfast aficionado.

Went there this morning for the 1st time....I was extremely impressed by the staff....A Hostess that knew how to seat people and space them out so service was excellent....and the food arrived quickly and to order....the 3 stars is for the front house staff The coffee was a little weak and the gravy on my biscuits was a little congealed....for the price they charge for breakfast food and something as easy as biscuits and gravy, I was disappointed obviously. I would go back again just to make sure that it wasn't an off day for the joint and it is only 3 blocks from my pad, so I really wanted to like it.

CJ's is a good neighborhood breakfast/brunch place. They move a crowd pretty good on a Sunday morning, too. so if you see a lot of people milling around, don't let that dissuade you, as both they and you will be seated quickly. For breakfasts, I've had the omelettes, the traditional two eggs-toast-hash browns breakfast, and I've had the pancakes, all of which were really good. The coffee in the morning is very good. For lunch, I've had the club sandwich and I've had the tuna melt. The tuna melt is excellent. CJ's is not a destination restaurant by any means, it's just a solid place to get a pretty good meal. No drama, no scene, just good food served quickly at a good price

Went at 10am on a Saturday and while it was still busy we were able to find seats no problem for four. Pumpkin and cranberry pancakes had 3 big thin pieces with a side of either maple of cinnamon sugar syrup; nothing special. $6 Blitzer (?) was about $7 two pieces filled with cheesy filling and side of jam also delicious. Omelet with side of toast; the omelet was huge! $7ish Overall nothing special or outstanding other than the service and reasonable prices. Service was amazingly fast, attentive, friendly but not overtly friendly in a creepy way. This is a nice place to stop by and to continue walking onward in downtown Seattle.

This is where Mel, Alice and Flo (not Vera, that tramp!) would work if they moved from Tuscon to Seattle. Good tuna sandwich and grilled cheese. Nice side of pasta salad. Always refreshing to have a semi-greasy spoon in the heart of the city.

CJ's is in a great location!! lots of window seats if you want one, but there's a really nifty mural on the left side of the restaurant close to the kitchen. going here for breakfast is ideal if you go in the morning time during the week when it isn't so crowded, but they serve breakfast all day long and that is a BIG PLUS for me!! service is fantastic... always refilling glasses before you can even ask!! a weekend visit to CJ's will more than likely involve you waiting for a bit, but the food is worth it!! just had some breakfast here this morning... it's definitely a place to go to when you're hungry!! :)

CJs is just marginally OK. I'm starting to think Seattle just doesn't know any better, as I can't imagine raving about them. CJ's offers basic diner quality, which has improved just slightly in the last five years. The wait staff is very good however, and the best time to go is for the early bird breakfast. Get the hash browns, as the other potatoes are often barely cleaned. Also, no matter how you order your eggs, they don't seem to know how to make them anything other than slightly runny, so go with scrambled if that's not the way you like them.

"I like your nails." I praised the server as she tries to take me order. ::Weird look from my server:: "Thanks." She said. No smile, no nothing, except for the "hurry up and order" look. FYI, It was turquoise. I had it once and my friends called me crazy. Glad to know I'm not the only person painting my nails with colors other than pink and black. Where was I? Yes, CJ's. I don't get it, I really don't. Food was good, but not OMG good. Service was good, but not OMG good. Atmosphere reminds me of Zeena, but not OMG good. Selection was wide, but not OMG good. My first cup of coffee wasn't warm, but not OMG good. I know I didn't make sense for a bit, point is, nothing was so OMG good. But then again, they serve breakfast all day. All day breakfasts are cool. Overall, service was decent, the server did what she needed to do, politely. It was quick, which is good for most people that are on lunch breaks. I asked for the bacon in my sandwich on the side. My sandwich came with bacon, and she brought me an extra serving of bacon on the side. I know it's an honest mistake, she probably just didn't hear me. It's completely irrelevant to her service. I just wanted to share because it is kinda funny, well, I think. Update: Ok, Cj's is still not OMG good. But I have to say it is a decent and quick breakfast spot. I believe ~68% of my dine-out breakfasts/brunch in the past 3 months took place here.

The day after moving to Seattle I came here for breakfast. It was nice the service was good and the food was fine. It seems like it might be better suited for families, just plain menu items, and about the quality level of an amateur cook. I would compare it to a Denny's breakfast but just a little more boring.

Stumbled upon this place, so we thought we would try it. That was a mistake! In addition to the waitress bringing me the wrong order and then continuing to charge me for it.....I thought the place lacked any style or customer service at all. Bathrooms were gross and the food was ordinary. Also quite odd when a Bud Light costs about the same as a Large Milk! I only gave it two stars because we didn't get food poisoning!

An incredible diner right in downtown. I didn't even know this place existed until a friend mentioned going to breakfast a few weeks ago and that it was great. Well they serve breakfast until 3pm at least on the weekends, which totally sold me. Fresh squeezed OJ, Uli's sausage, hot coffee and some of the most interesting specials I've ever seen. I got the banana bread french toast. Let me just say, if you love french toast, this is it. No need for syrup, just great banana bread. Their omelets are filled to the brim with toppings and light and fluffy. I wish I had room to try the Caribbean porkchop breakfast. And all decently priced and good no-nonsense service. I can't wait to try this place for lunch. But it's a definite hangout for weekend brunches and Belltown hangovers.

If you like simple, great-tasting, unpretentious food and happen to live in Belltown, this is a place for you. My personal favorite is the chicken fried steak (some weekends they have a special with chorizo gravy); I highly recommend it if you're hungry. Service is also great, staff is always very accommodating and friendly.

Typical diner located towards the outskirts of downtown. Not sure what all the hoopla is about this place. I would much rather sit-in at the Shanty Cafe for any hour breakfast (which reminds me.. I need to drop some stars on that place). Mediocre rating only because my sandwich was missing the other halve, my friends "please no bacon" club came with bacon, and the extra side of bacon was way overcooked. I like my bacon chewy / crispy. Not dry flake away in your mouth dark brown. But hey... a diner like this within walking distance of Belltown gets a thumbs-up.

This was an absolutely appalling eating experience. I was seated with three other people on a table that was not more than 2' x 2', and that was placed in the middle of the dining area in the direct route through the biggest lane of traffic. I was bumped, elbowed, and knocked in the head at least a dozen times, and that was just by the staff (by proxy of this table's position, I received a lot more punishment from other cafe-goers). The service was nothing less than atrocious, as we waited over 20 minutes to get our food when a party of 8 seated five minutes after us got their food 10 minutes earlier. When we did get our meal, two of the four plates were wrong, so we had to wait longer still. The food was bland and uninspired, and the setting of the establishment was loud and obnoxious. If you live in Belltown, then maybe this is a great option for you; if you live in any other civilized part of the world where you don't have to kill and skin your meal before consuming it, then you can probably do better than this friggin' hole.

There's a mural on the back wall of the "Hotel Denny" - Old brick buildings. I'm thinking CJs - A very good breakfast place - used to be a hotel. Anyone know??? So, ambience isn't its strong suit (they need a couple more good grease-fires to truly provide that classic diner feel) but CJ's makes up for it in the food. By law, I had to test the Chicken Fried Steak and it was excellent - even in the Mecca of CFS, as Seattle is. Great different sausage gravy and good biscuits - though a little underdone and warmish and they charged me $2.50 for extra gravy. Red potatoes were perfect - fried crisp! The over-easy eggs were actually over-easy. Actually CJ's is over-easy in the best sense of the word - prepare your arteries and enjoy a dollop of gravy!

A good brunch experience is about more than good food, it's about eating good food in a place that's buzzing with happy people eating very leisurely with the promise of having to do absolutely nothing for the rest of the day. This is why we drink bloody marys at brunch until we descend into a cheerful stupor. CJ's fits the bill perfectly. The food, with some exceptions (stay away from the corned beef hash) is delicious and the portions are generous. I highly recommend trying the vegetarian sausage and having it in a scramble. On weekends, there's always a wait but not too long a wait. The place is unpretentious and the waiters are always friendly. Having brunch at CJs is the perfect beginning to a Saturday or Sunday, and is one of those very simple but precious joys of life.

I just moved to Seattle this week and I had my very first breakfast here. I was greeted immediately and they had my coffee served almost before my butt hit the seat. I ordered the French Toast Combo which was the yummiest french toast, 1 egg, and fresh fruit....delicious! The coffee here is great, too. I have nothing but good things to say...I'll be back for sure!

So. Much. Yummy!!! We stopped here for breakfast on our way to a day of sightseeing at the waterfront. The food was fantastic, the OJ was fresh, and the service was prompt and super friendly even though they were very busy on a Saturday morning. I had the lox and onion scramble -- makes my mouth soooo happy! And I love the option of a bagel instead of toast, and either tomato slices or cottage cheese in lieu of breakfast potatoes.

Want a speedy, friendly tummy pleasing (and expanding) meal that scratches your brunching itch? Head out to CJ's. My coffee cup is always full, my water glass never empty (and I guzzle the stuff, Yelpers, GUZZLE) and the food is TERRIF! I have become a regular CJ's patron. Visitors to town love it - never get a complaint - and if I come before 11 am on the weekends, my meal is served in a slightly mellower atmosphere than their post 11 am brunch bustle. The wait staff is always pleasant, polite and has a sense of humor. They accommodate my weird eggs benedict order without a blink (really how many people love this dish without hollandaise sauce?) and happily charred my father's potatoes to that super crunchy crisp that is his happiness requirement. I vote for CJ's anytime you're in Belltown and have a hankering for some kind of breakfast. Oh, and I finally had their french toast last week; everything french toast should be and more, I think I actually cried. Notes of wariness for future brunchers: The latkes are not worth the effort of ordering, seriously, if you aren't going to make latkes right, don't make them. Also, there does seem to be a scallion happy elf hiding in the kitchen. Twice now my potatoes have come out drowning in the stuff. I like the onion family, I do; yet no one needs to see this much of this little onion cousin on a single plate. Oh and Parking: Yes, yes, as with much of Belltown, parking is a pain. So I don't recommend it. Walk, bus, cab and if you must park, try the streets a few blocks north of Cedar and 1st, it's typically a bit less congested. Now, go out and brunch Yelpers! Brunch!

Nom nom-ing at CJs is a nice experience, your basic diner experience. It's not omigodthat'sthebestomeletteever, it's more yawnIneedpoachedeggesandIdon'twannadoitmyself sorta place. Good, but not great, and I wish there's more variety. It's usually packed in the mornings, but that's probably more because there isn't a breakfast around that has the same sorta price range, rather than a testament to the food itself. Sorry CJs, I like ya, but we should just be friends.

This place is awesome. And discovered here on yelp! It is close to my gf's work so we can hop over there for lunch. We've been twice and I've enjoyed both my meals. The first time I had a burger. It is a pretty good burger. I need to see if they have american cheese though! That would make it better. The fries are excellent too. The second time I had a french dip. It was good. The bread was great. The broth wasn't salty enough but that was easily remedied. Surprising for me is the iced tea. It is REALLY good. I don't usually like ice tea. My gf ordered some and I could smell it across the table! I don't think it is ordinary black tea. Whatever it is, it is good and even now I am dreaming of it. The service has been really good both times too. The decor? Eh, it is ok. Not coming here for the decor! The first time we came we got seated by the entryway. Brrr!!! One thing my gf and I both noticed is that there were multiple things on the menu we wanted to try. So, we'll be back for sure!

I was visiting my daughter who lives in Belltown, and she suggested we walk up to CJ's. Even though it was a late morning Saturday, we were seated immediately. The service was excellent and very quick. And the food was WONDERFUL. I had the Barnyard (?) omelette, bacon and cheddar, and it was one of the best, if not THE best omelette I've ever had. The hashbrowns were also excellent. The fresh squeezed orange juice made me want to sit there half the day drinking glass after glass. I have only eaten there once, so I'm not awarding 5 stars. Not yet anyway. I need to go visit her more often and check out the rest of the menu. :-)

Very convenient spot for breakfast in Belltown. I always order the Swedish pancakes with a side of bacon (extra crispy), and the pancakes are awesome and bacon is made to order! Warning: the cornbeef hash is very dissapointing, no flavor and the consistency is like eating a side of dry potatoes. Fresh brewed iced tea is great, and the service is pretty good. There's always a daily special breakfast menu that seems to be worth trying out. There's always a wait on the weekends around peak breakfast hours. If you're an early bird, they also have weekday speacials for $5.99.

Odd decor, but great food! Seriously, the building, interior, and style really don't match the quality of food and staff. I tried one of their sausage and Havarti fritadas, and love it! I found out that they use Uli's sausage for many of their dishes, which is a treat in itself. We're definitely coming back.

Finally! I've been wanting to find a great comfort food place in Belltown for months and here we are...CJ's...they've answered my call by offering the typical, fantastically-long menu that every proper diner should have. Just had breakfast for lunch here with my friends. It got a thumbs up. Reasonably priced (for belltown). I got the Belltown omelette with red potatoes. Hell yes. It was a good omellette with lots o' stuffins, as it should be. The menu also spurred this conversation: Friend: "Scramble with Chicken Apple Sausage" Me: "Is that like, chicken, and apple and sausage, or is it aple-flavored sausage with chicken?" Friend: "I think it's chicken-sausage, that's apple flavored" Me: "So chicken in sausage form?" Friend: "Yes, that's apple flavored" Anyway, CJ's delivers, and I thank it for that. Also, got all three of us in and outta there within an hour. Yes, we will definitely be going here again.

Went to breakfast at 10am on a Sunday and it was packed. We waited about 10-15 minutes for a table that was squeezed in the middle of the dining room so the noise level made it a bit difficult to hear each other. I ordered the french toast (because of other yelper's recommendations) and LOVED it. I got the two-piece with a side of bacon and have been thinking about it for days. The other people at the table ordered the croissant french toast (way too small a portion) the scramble (okay), the two-egg breakfast w/veggie sausage (yummy!) and a stack of blueberry panckaes (boring and disappointing). Clean and just okay service.

Excellent breakfast and lunch. Good service. The only knock is their crappy coffee (weak and no flavor). In a town with so much good coffee I don't get it.

This is probably the restaurant where you can most regularly find me in Seattle. I typically go for breakfast (which is never ever disappointing) but sometimes, I just feel like lunch, and that is always awesome too. The cobb salad and the matzoh ball soup just make me so happy :) and the Mike's special scramble (eggs, fresh salsa, and cheddar cheese) is awesome. All of their sausage is from Uli's in the market and the bread is from Grand Central bakery, and so so so very fresh. I take anyone who comes to visit me to CJs and everyone LOVES it!!! :) I have never had anything I didn't like!!! :) Their specials are usually worth reading, although the normal menu is fabulous too! You should definitely go to CJs!!

Good portions, fast service, and tasty fried food. Has all the makings of a post-lunch coma. All of which, make CJ's the perfect under an hour lunch place in belltown as they get you in - get you fed - and get you back to work quickly. Note for those - like myself - who don't wake up early EVER they do serve breakfast all day which is a definite plus in case you don't feel like your third mushroom burger this week.

Got up early Sunday morning, took the new lightrail into town and walked from Westlake Ctr. to CJ's. The walk in itself was an experience but breakfast made it all worth it. Got there a little after they opened so seating wasn't an issue, but, by the time we left at 8 the place was almost full. Chicken Fried Steak and eggs were good and there was more than enough to fill you up. Service was very good. Probably coulda/shoulda/woulda given another star but.....

This place was really wonderful to pop into on a Sunday morning for brunch. The atmosphere was lively, but not too loud. The hostesses and servers were all very friendly and casual. My server even made a pun! When I asked if I could have the "yuppie omelet", she replied, "Yup." Plus, my coffee cup was never once empty. The portions are large and the prices are a little high, but over all a really great experience.

This place wasn't our first choice for breakfast, however, I'm so glad we ended up here! We were seated right away and our orders came super fast. The food and service was great. The server did forget my coffee, but, I won't hold that against them! We'll be back. Thank you CJ!!

  • Alex H.

For diner food, this place beats anywhere else I've been downtown. Fast service even though it was very busy. Reasonably priced considering the high quality of the food. 1 star deducted for atmosphere, as it felt like I was eating in the lobby of an office building. It's also rather "family friendly" so expect some screeching children.

I used to come here occasionally for lunch. Until last week when I was served a dead fly in my salad (they comped the meal). Other than that the food is ok, not great. The breakfast items are better than the lunch plates. The service is ok, but the atmosphere is weird (art deco meets cafeteria). The large windows are good for light, but not for the view.

For a restaurant with one of the shortest names in the entire city, they have one of the most extensive (but non-expensive) menus in Seattle. I started with a mimosa called "The Dahlia". Grapefruit juice and champagne. Mom would be pleased: "Dear, are you eating a grapefruit now and again?" "Yes, Mom; in fact, I've discovered a new way to enjoy 'em at breakfast!" I shared an order of this funky French Toast with my best friend, Ed. It had apples, cinnamon and brown sugar on it. I almost became diabetic on the first bite, but that didn't stop me. Every bite was an oral orgasm, and the toast was gone too soon. Next came my omelette. I chose The Sicilian, but added spinach and chopped tomatoes to it. The produce were fresh and very flavorful; who knew a tomato could taste this good?! So my omelette was equally Sicilian and Florentine, and I could not have liked it more. The coffee was seriously incredible. I think Ol' Howard Shultz needs to drive North from the SoDo into Belltown and check out this coffee! The service was incredible. Not overly-solicitous by any means, but attentive and friendly. I kept the menu to check out the other things available. I'll definitely return, despite the no-reservations,-but-we'll-put-yer-name-on-a-list program. There are a few wi-fi networks in the area with no WEP password required, so I can stay busy with my iPod Touch and surf the internet while I wait. There's nothing about CJ's I don't like. Nothing.

I've been to CJ's several times in the last week for breakfast because of how close it is to my apartment. I have not been disappointed yet. The service is always friendly and quick, and the breakfasts have been pretty damn tasty. Their farmer's market omlette, in particular, is real tasty. The portions are large and the prices very reasonable.

This is the closest thing to a NY diner in Seattle - chicken noodle soup all the time & breakfast too. When I have the snifflesI head to CJ's for lunch and do the soup-thang. They are on 1st Ave (and Cedar) in Belltown (and only open for Breakfast and Lunch) and are the closest thing I've run into to a NY diner here in Seattle. Service is fast and INCREDIBLE, so nice (cute, too). The food is straight up and very good, This is the kind of place to go for a big breakfast (any time of the day). And they have the best bagels (try one as your toast). Full burger, salad, sandwich and more menu too, but I just love the breakfasts.

  • Mary B.

CJ's is my favorite brunch spot. Their food isn't greasy like other brunch places I've tried in the area. I like most things on their breakfast menu, but my favorites are the french toast, biscuits 'n' gravy, eggs benedict, and country eggs benedict. Plus, it's awesome that they offer grits as a side on the weekends!

    (5)
  • Rizwan R.

Had breakfast here a few times. The food is good and the service once you get seated is OK. However, be prepared for a long wait particularly on a weekend in the morning. My rating is 3-star mainly due to the long wait I have experienced every time I have eaten here.

When I eat at CJ's, it makes me very happy because I feel like I'm back home in NY at any dinner. The staff is hysterical in that rough and tumble tough NY way. I expect to see a goomba way through the door! The have chicken soup all year long and a great BIG salad for lunch. They serve breakfast all day, too!

CJ's Eatery is THE breakfast spot. My bf loves the chicken fried steak and eggs and I love all their omelettes. We always get a mimosa with our meal too. The prices are reasonable and their plates are HUGE. Great hangover recovery meal since breakfast is served all day!

  • yobot o.

Fabulous that breakfast is all day. Selection is broad and the dishes are cooked just fine. My favorite time to go is late afternoon when it's not so crowded - can't stand those crazy weekend Seattle breakfast crowds (I seriously don't get that phenom). I did once see a long silverfish squished into the front window's display menu - right in between the menu and the glass. Yes, it was gross. I'm sure any restaurant has its share of pests, but that terrifically exactly wrong spot to see that sort of display turned me off to the place for awhile. I'm sure I'll forget it and go back soon, esp as it's really the only breakfast place not drowning in trend around here.

YUMM! Cj's is my favorite breakfast spot! Everyone i take here agrees, its delicious! The hash and pancakes are especially good, oh and the french toast! Eek! I went to this place with my co-worker because I heard decent reviews about this place. Big mistake! Their lunch menu has literally fewer than a dozen or so items including appetizers with very little variety - it's mostly meat sandwiches and burgers. If you're a vegetarian, this restaurant is not the place to go. I ordered late breakfast without grits, bacon, and sausage because that was the most appealing thing I saw on their lunch menu. It tasted awful of course, I'm sure they rely good favor on those meat ingredients. Their service was slow, the table we got was sticky and reeked of grease smell and the food I got was slushy. How to do you make eggs with hashbrowns slushy? I just want to throw up thinking about that place. Ew!

Edited to add: I forgot to mention the superb, sweet, speedy service. Working diner breakfast is rough. I have done it and know how pissy, demanding, and weird people are at 8:00 in the morning when their blood sugar is low. But at CJ's, not only are the servers adorable, accomodating, and cheerful, but fast and intuitive as well! They leave you alone when you want to be left alone, chat when you want to chat, and drop the check right when you're feeling really gorged. I love CJ's!!! Hell yes. This place is an awesome diner by any standards, and the fact that it's within hangover-walking distance from my building and serves breakfast all day makes me love it even more. Their menu is huge and has everything you could possibly want from a good diner - especially an extensive list of sides so you can get whatever weird combination of foods you're craving. They even serve sides of their corned beef hash and biscuit and gravy. As other reviewers have stated, their fruit is delicious - not the usual pathetic side plate of underripe canteloupe and pithy orange slices, but a big juicy bowl of kiwis, perfectly ripe melon, strawberries, grapes, and apples. YUM! The decor is downright weird and looks like a schizophrenic person cobbled it together from thrift stores and the Ross home department. But the food is delicious and the service friendly and prompt.

food was ok, but not that great. we got the coffee, omelette, and stuffed french toast. eh....it was not good, not bad. service was mediocre....didn't get any refills on our water or coffee. nice that they serve breakfast all day.....

I love this place, it has all my favorite breakfast foods. They have Blintzes, latkes (good any time!), french toast, etc... Last time that I went here, which was sunday, I got the most amazing blintzes. I can't even say how heavenly they were, they had a sweet sourcream and possibly cream cheese filling, strawberry and sourcream topping, just heavenly. Plus, they serve the coffee in those nice glass coffee mugs, which I just love. The time before I ordered french toast, and you can pay a little bit extra for two eggs and fruit. I mainly decided on that option for the fruit. The fruit is amazing, it has all the best fruits, such as for instance, kiwi. I wanted to get the continental breakfast last time because of the fruit, but there are so many good choices, it's hard to be that boring. I love this place and want to try a different thing each time I go, and I want to go every weekend. I was worried when I left chicago, that I would not find myself a good diner, but this place definitely is the great diner that I was looking for.

The pancakes here are the best if you're into thin and crispy. Service is also good.

I've been eating a CJ's for years and years as they're just a solid diner with great breakfast. I come back again and again for the Eggs Benedict, it's one of the best in the city (but only served on the weekends). And although it can get a little busy on the weekends it's always worth the wait. I really like their consistency: good food, good service.

We like to come here for breakfast on either Saturday or Sunday when we're visiting - there is usually a friendly crowd, getting seated quickly is never an issue, service is also friendly and efficient, the coffee is tasty and bottomless, and the menu has lots of options for breakfast (my *usual* is the Manhattan open-faced omelette) and lunch. I only wish the decor was a little more like a cafe restaurant rather than a renovated office building lobby.

I had breakfast here about a month ago. I had a craving for pancakes, so ordered the Swedish style. They were light, thin and tasty. But, I can't figure out about the ravings on their service. I had to ask a waitress for refills on my coffee (which was only ok) and water several times, and she looked put-out and was NOT friendly at all! My food service female waitress was courteous and smiling, but seemed overly busy and in too much of a rush to care about my meal. When entering, I asked if my dog could wait in the foyer (which is a completely separate area from the restaurant and divided by an entranceway AND there are so many dogs in Belltown, too) but they refused to let me leave her there on her leash. So, they seated me by the window after I tied her up to an outside tree. I spent so much time just watching her to make sure she was not snatched (she's old but gorgeous and constantly commented upon) up that I really could not fully enjoy my food. Next time I'll know to leave her at home and not walk to Cj's. I'd give it 3-1/2 stars.

In Seattle after our cruise and looking for a breakfast place close to the Edgewater hotel and Yelp reviewers did not let us down. This is hands on the best breakfast we have had in our many travels. Great local feel to the place, competent, quick service. The chorizo gravy, (weekends only) was phenomenal. The corned beef hash was excellent. We will be coming back tomorrow before we head home. If you like a good down home breakfast, this is the place.

Love this place. Mostly because it is comfortable and the food is better than my mommas breakfast. That either says little about my momma or a lot about CJ's...I will let you be the judge. Mimosas at mid morning with a good sized egg scramble hits the spot.

  • Lauren D.

Good food, below average beverages. The coffee has a burnt taste--thank god the cream was able to mask the flavor. I had the french toast combo and that was spectacular! The fruit is fresh and delicious, the eggs and bread are fluffy and warm. Great breakfast food overall!

Great location, clean with super food. Awesome food selection and fast service. Chicken fried steak was the best ever and I lived in Texas before. The country gravy was flavorful with various bits of random meats. The wheat toast was the high end stuff and actually had whole grains. The place is breakfast kind of loud, but it was expected. Friendly staff make it a good way to start the day.

Unassuming and unpretentious, just great diner style food. Love this place for weekend casual breakfast/brunch. My go to dishes are the farmer's omelette (love that cheese, potato and crispy bacon!) and the coffee cake. I'd avoid the cinnamon roll as its consistently dry.

  • Christine C.

All I have to say is: if you get a meal that comes with toast, you can sub the Swedish pancakes for only 1.50!! YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED. They were ah-maze-ing. It had the consistency of a crepe, but thicker and slightly crunchy on the ends. Sooooooo good. Our server was awesome and really knew her stuff when it came to the menu. I can't wait to go back again.... And again.... And again.

Great little place I've walked past a hundred times... Finally tried it out.... Not your typical diner.... Looks like the menu changes when the chef gets an idea... Love that! Not just a dirty ol diner with greasy food. Will be returning.

My absolute favourite eggs benny, hands down, anywhere. I've been to many breakfast and brunch places all over to sample their benny's but none compare to the benny's at CJ's. The hollandaise is of course made in house, it's delicious and lemony with a little tiny bit of spice. They are generous with the serving of hollandaise, the ham or lox and sometimes they offer specials like the crab cake benny. The other food is good too, I usually have a bite or two of the food my friends order. The place is a decent size, all tables, and I've never waited more than 15 minutes for a table even on a Sunday at brunch. All the employees here are very friendly and accommodating, even when you have a big annoying table and oops we actually have one more person, can we add another table?

I tried Cj's today for the first time and I loved it so much that I had to create a yelp account and give them the accolades they deserve. My boyfriend and I came in around noon for a late breakfast and the place was PACKED. We were seated immediately and our drink orders were taken only seconds later. Their freshly squeezed oj and lemonade were delicious and refreshing. Drew was our server. He was so great. Our food order was taken with ease. He was attentive while still giving us our space. I had the two eggs with bacon and hash browns. While my boyfriend had the French toast combo with a side of bacon. Both were incredible. The portions were pretty big which made it easier to share ;) We can't wait to return. And next time, I'm getting that mimosa!

  • Mattie R.

I've been here twice, and both times they had french toast specials on the menu. I ordered those both times (and a side of bacon). They had banana bread french toast the first time I went. Seriously...slices of banana bread cooked up as french toast. It was amazing. The second time it was marionberry coffee cake french toast. I'm nervous that the next time I go they won't have an awesome french toast special! Oh, and the bacon is good too.

Got sat the minute I walked in (despite them being busy). My order was taken in just a minute, and the food was brought out quickly - and was great! Simple, but tasty. As I was eating and watching, the tables would be cleared in under a minute of someone getting up. All the waiters/waitresses were happy and cheerful, and everyone was served quick. Great food, great service, clean, quick...you should definitely give the place a try!

CJ's is a solid no frills American breakfast spot in Belltown; I'm still yet to go in with the lunch crowd, but am yet to be disappointed with breakfast. That says something around these parts. My personal go to is the Northwest Benedict with a side of French toast. The French toast is good here. I feel their prices are a little high for what you're getting, but ultimately you pay a premium for the convenience, of course. If you haven't been in, it's much better food than the 5 Point! I lowered to three stars... food here is average quality and it's overpriced. When it's slammed, I usually feel rushed.

CJ's was a nice little diner type place. I was visiting Seattle and my family decided to give CJ's a shot. When we arrived we were seated quickly. The staff was super friendly. When we asked our waitress for recommendations she seemed very sincere about what she recommended. I ordered an egg sandwich. It was pretty good. The rest of my part also enjoyed the food they ate.

Get the Swedish pancakes!!!! This is our go to breakfast spot. Great food! Great prices and service. The eggs Benedict, omlets and corned beef hash are all great. We always get an order of the Swedish pancakes to split for the table.

Standard breakfast place, okay atmosphere. Came by for breakfast before a conference, right down the street from the Ace. The menu is pretty basic. lovers of comic sans will be pleased. Since I wasn't feeling that hungry I went with a breakfast sandwich with a veggie patty. It was tasty and appropriately priced at $5. BF went with the 2 egg veggie sausage plate, again eggs, veggie sausage, hashbrowns and toast. Not sure that dish warranted $9. Service was fine, coffee was meh. To me this feels more like a Dennys or standard breakfast fare, nothing special.

First time today at CJ's, and was very delighted. Our out-of-town guest wanted a decent breakfast before her flight, and we stumbled upon CJ's. Seattle has plenty of breakfast joints, but unfortunately many of them are full of hipster snots, and picky artisanal people. We enjoy a down-to-earth, comfortable place to eat, and CJ's was perfect! I'm all about a restaurant's atmosphere, but the food here was absolutely delicious as well! All three of us ordered something different, and all three orders were outstanding! We'll definitely be back, and will be recommending this place as well.

  • Megan H.

I eat here all the time and my boyfriend and I love it! Very classic breakfast option that's casual the mimosas are awesome as well. We bring our guests here regularly because it's so close to our apartment. The food is always awesome. Usually the staff are great. I do want to throw something out about a visit the other day. That time the waitress we got was.....well weird. She just came to the table and stared at us no "what can I get ya" or anything she just stared. We finally broke the silence and ordered when I got something that included a coffee she got defensive because I already ordered a latte I said its fine I'll pay the extra and she seemed to fret over it and said shed have to ask her manager. It was just a weird uncomfortable encounter. I don't want one weird day to ruin what is usually great but I felt like someone should know...

Decent food at decent price with decent service in a decent ambience. No big negatives, but no big positives either. Complete neutral. My burger had a nice size, plenty of veggies, tasty. But no differentiators. The fries are thick ferries, similar to Red Robbins. Clearly frozen. Not bad, not great. It's a place you can go. Or not go. You will forget about it either way.

This is a great breakfast spot that will fill you up! The place is small but the will seat you quickly and they have a ton a different options to pick from. I go the veggie sauté with tofu, so good! Lots of veggies and hashbrowns. Also I tried the oatmeal, really good with lots of fresh fruit. This place is great. Lots of great omelets and dishes to try. Again, I have heard how great this place is. And I am so glad I went. Great breakfast in Seattle

Cute neighborhood eatery with views of the Space Needle, but disgusted with the flies swarming my food. Ordered the chicken fried steak with gravy, not bad, chicken could've been crispier. Ambiance was so so.

A friend of mine just moved nearby and it seems this will be a regular brunch spot from now on. We stopped in after the move for some much-needed eats. I got the simple bagel with lox and cream cheese, and she got the Swedish pancakes. Food is very straightforward with generous portions, and the prices are super reasonable considering the location. Service was delightful and friendly, and even the menu conveys the jovial and easygoing nature of the place. I very much enjoyed the laid back atmosphere nestled amidst all the posh Belltown places. The drip coffee also gets a A from me!

Delicious meal and great service! As tourist, we didn't know much else to do than to rely on Yelp of course, and thank goodness for Yelp! We enjoyed a beautiful morning stroll to this hidden delight early in the morning. Let me tell you...my boyfriend is not an early bird but it was totally worth it. Looks like any ol' restaurant on the outside. Nothing fancy, nothing particularly special from the looks of it. Oh, but how often I've said that looks can be deceiving. We walked in to be greeted by some genuinely kind servers and were served immediately. They had an early morning happy hour..Say what?! So I went with my morning craving and I absolutely loved the French toast. Perfection. It was sweet and crispy and just melted away in my mouth and paired so nicely with their specialty mimosa. Uhhhmazing mimosa! Never had anything like it with fresh strawberry bits and all. Loved everything about my visit and you will too if you give it a try!

  • Nichole L.

Hmmm...I'd give it a solid 3 1/2 stars anyway. I had the Bell Street omelette with sourdough toast and red potatoes. The toast was burnt but only a little, the potatoes were good but not amazing. The omelette was fantastic. Service was good. They were pretty busy, but it was nice to be acknowledged and seated immediately. The orange juice was fresh, cold and arrived quickly at the table. All in all, it was fairly average diner breakfast food, which was, after all, exactly what I was looking for.

Good comfort food, hearty portions, quick and friendly service. We went here for a Sunday morning brunch and luckily didn't have to wait too much. The ambience is like any classic brunch place with friendly smily faces all around. Here's what we ate: Chicken Fried Steak - Very tasty, cooked perfectly, correctly season with a hearty gravy. Sunlite Omelet - A nice tasty stuffed omelet with many veggies. Eggs Benedict(Northwest style) - I'd never tried the classic with salmon instead of ham. It was pretty good but could surely use more hollandaise sauce. Swedish Pancakes - These were a cross between pancakes and crepes. They were pretty nice but a little on the bitter side. My wife who really likes pancakes was not very impressed with them since she had very high expectations after the raving reviews. Everything comes with sides of potatoes or hash browns and eggs and/or toast. Overall it was a giant brunch that left us feeling full and happy.

Brunch brunch brunch. I had a vibe to go for biscuits and gravy that day. There was a chorizo gravy special that the waitress so kindly let me try. It was good but then b told me it taste like chili.. It totes did and it was super salty, but it did have a nice kick at the end. I opted for the regular gravy after experiencing this fact. My regular biscuits and gravy was also very salty.. :( it was delicious for the most part but I found. Myself reaching for my glass of water after almost every bite. Eeeeks. I got shredded potatoes, bacon and eggs. BACON was THE BOMB. Potatoes had a nice crisp to it and the eggs were just ehh. B had the Mediterranean sandwich which was very good. The ff's that came along its it were so so but nothing memorable. If I come back it probably won't be for biscuits and gravy unless I can test them out again before hand.

My favorite Christmas Eve tradition is rolling out of bed, waltzing into work, eating CJ's with my coworkers, getting no work done, then going home to sleep off my food coma. The Belltown omelette is my favorite item on the menu - generous portion of eggs with sausage, mushrooms, green onions, hashbrowns, and toast! Tasty and perfect for the holidays. The biscuits and gravy are okay, but not my favorite. Stick to the omelette. Although the food is pretty good, the service is lackluster. When there is a crowd, the servers seem to have a complete meltdown. Nobody wants to be treated like it is a burden to be served at their establishment. TAKE MY MONEY!

  • Priyamvada B.

I went to this place for the first time yesterday. Me and hubby, both had garden burgers with a side of salad, coleslaw and fries. I also had a latte. All the items were very good, service was quick though the whole place was packed. We enjoyed our meals and would definitely return to try the rest of the menu items. Just one suggestion, french fries could have been thinner. :)

Come hungry! They use fresh ingredients! Only frozen was hash browns. I ordered the country skillet and a coffee cake. I'm a healthy portion Eater and I'm taking the cake home! Hubby had biscuits and gravy came with eggs and potatoes. He's taking his cinnamon role (loaf of bread) home with him. Servers were great! Sarah our waitress was on top of things! We will be back and bring friends!

I've been here at least 20 times by now and it's one of our favorite breakfast spots. The food is very diner-esque, nothing fancy and decently priced. Definitely try the Swedish pancakes which are not your typical pancake, but are WAY better! I got the eggs benedict last time and I will NOT be getting it again. They arrived drowning in some sort of yellow-orange sauce (if you can call it that) what was supposed to be hollandaise, but looked more like a thick layer of melted McDonald's cheese. I tried to scrape off as much as I could, ending up with at least 1/3 cup of the goo on the side of my plate. I like hollandaise for flavoring, but I don't want my food drowning in it.

I've lived both in New York and close enough to LA's Miracle Mile to frequent many a Jewish deli. I can easily say this might be the best corned beef hash in the country. The red potatoes aren't exactly slouches, either.

  • Mayte L.

This place is a great breakfast joint, decided to try it out one day for lunch and certainly was not disappointed. Great Mac and cheese: fulfilling, tasty, and brought bacon! The burger was good too, normally non burger restaurants offer mediocre burgers but this one was fantastic. The service is great too. Servers are very nice and attentive. Good place to go to in Seattle. Only thing I don't like about it is the decor, but hey, no one's perfect.

I ate breakfast here with my family on our first day of our trip to Seattle. Everyone loved the food. The soda was overpriced but overall it was the best breakfast I have ever eaten. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The waitstaff was also very friendly.

  • Randy D.

Went here for breakfast, more out of proximity to our hotel (Inn at El Gaucho) than anything, but was pleasantly surprised. We got there a few minutes before they opened and there was already quite the line of folks waiting to get in (a good sign). They have all the breakfast favorites, some with a uniquely Seattle spin (Eggs Benedict with salmon, custom Mimosas, etc.). My wife and I went with something predictable, challah French toast and Swedish pancakes, since we were heading to the cruise terminal and didn't want to tie into a huge breakfast and risk capsizing the ship... The service was awesome and the meals came out hot and visually appealing. The challah French toast had just the right touch of cinnamon to accent but not overpower and the plate-covering Swedish pancakes had that thin, crispy edge that gave the dish a good texture. Very good early morning Belltown breakfast destination; it seems like most of Seattle thinks so too!

  • Mark F.

CJ's is one of the best breakfast joints in Seattle. The atmosphere is quite casual and very relaxed, although it can get quite busy on weekends. If it is busy, they have a quick turnover so you don't have to wait very long. The food is very good, large portions and reasonable prices. Be careful of the strawberry freezer jam though...it might be habit forming. The service staff are quite attentive and get to know your order after a few visits. If you're in a rush, you can get in and out quickly, or if you want to stay and talk, that's OK too. You're never rushed.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. I call it my Seattle "Cheers, where everyone knows my name." From my first visit a year ago to now, I have yet to have a bad experience here. I'm on a first name basis with majority of the fine people that run this restaurant. I'm in quite often because its located near my work. Great place to stop in for lunch solo or a breakfast meeting. I recommend the chicken salad alexandria sandwich. Or the Benedict! Fries here are delish. If you're looking for some good diner grub and you're in the area, this place wont disappoint.

I have been eating at Cj's for years and have never been disappointed. I really like the rose which is champagne with organic strawberry lemonade. I also order the omelets which are huge and delicious. Keep in mind this place will often have a wait on Saturday and Sunday which is why I wish they stayed open a little later. The staff are always friendly and fast and your coffee cup will never go empty. Also they always have a good fresh fruit selection in case you don't want potatoes.

Came for breakfast and was very pleased. Selections include creative combos as well as old standbys. I ordered the Italian sausage and eggs with hash browns and sourdough toast. The sausage was spicy, hash browns crispy, and eggs cooked to order. Service was outstanding--fast, friendly, and attentive. I had a cute little table with a nice view of the Spaceneedle and constant drizzle. If the prices were a little more bargain focused this place would be 5 stars!

I love CJ's. Solid & reliable place to bring a big group of friends. Me & about 10 others in my wedding party ate here and had great service and everyone loved the food. Also loved the mimosas! The grapefruit ones are delicious. Very reasonable prices here too.

This place in terms of tastiness is 3 stars at the best. I had the eggs benedicts. It felt greasy, and the hollandaise sauce tasted mediocre and had a bright neon yellow color. I expect that from a diner, so I won't give them anything less than 3 stars, but to boast this place as a 4 star is just unbelievable. I think Yelpers got my expectations up, and I was utterly disappointed.

3.5 When you arrive after 1 you have no problem finding a table and at that point it's seat yourself, expect a decent wait otherwise, this place gets packed in the rush hours. Tons of breakfast options. Decor is lacking, but service is friendly. Today I was in the mood for a turkey club and a side of soup. The chicken noodle soup was a little on the salty side but decent. The club was massive and I ended up taking the rest home. My boyfriend enjoyed his scramble on the special's menu. Cheap yet delicious coffee.

Good neighborhood diner, conveniently located next to my friends apartment. Had breakfast here twice during our 5 day visit to the city. The swedish pancakes are a must, everything else was good too. Must be alright if the Seattle PD are regulars here. Our first time here it was packed, the police bagpipe band filled most of the restaurant but service never suffered.

One of the best things about Belltown is CJ's. What a great place for breakfast! Large portions, good value for your money. Everything is homemade and fresh -- juices, coffee, maple syrup, etc. My ratings: Corned beef hash with eggs over easy -- excellent Chicken apple sausages -- excellent Blintzes -- exquisite French toast on brioche -- outstanding Swedish chocolate chip pancakes -- awesome You get the idea! Miscellaneous: Friendly staff; great place for people-watching; possible lines on weekends (for a reason, people!)

I felt the service was extremely prompt and surprisingly cheerful considering it was early in the morning..at least for me..at like 9am. HAHA..anyway- I ordered corned beef hash and two poached eggs plus a side of country gravy and sourdough toast. It was delicious and there was so much food I had to pack some home. The orange juice was fresh squeezed (or at least tasted very fresh) and made the whole meal quite delectable. I'd definitely come here to try the other breakfast fare. I have yet to try the lunch and dinner menu!

Yummy. I had plans to have brunch with my cousin somewhere around Belltown and we WERE going to Lucky Diner but the reviews look mixed and she hasn't been to CJ's so we dicided to go there. So glad we choose this place. Seating for two is pretty quick (got seated right away). I got the country benedict and my cousin for a scramble which were both good. Coffee is refilled quite often which i appreciate. I should come here more often, i only live like 4 blocks away.

3.5-star Belltown brunch headquarters. Family restaurant, unique in Belltown. Prefer CJs to Lucky, which feels sterile. Huge menu - can find something to please everyone. Generous portions, friendly/attentive service, good prices.

One of my favorite restaurants for breakfast in Seattle. The french toast is my absolute favorite, followed closely by the swedish style pancakes. We venture to Belltown on the weekends just to have breakfast at this place. It's always busy, portions are huge, it's a good value for the money, and the servers are awesome! You can expect fast service, delicious food, and a large menu with an excellent variety of dishes. Everything we've had there is good - but you won't go wrong with french toast, a side of red potatoes, a side of bacon, and a glass of their freshly squeezed oj. No matter how long you have to wait - it's worth it. No. Really. It's worth it...

With 219 reviews already in the books it's not like CJs needs another one but for out of towners like myself, it's important to realize this place really is awesome! So I thought one more review couldn't hurt. Looking for a place to eat breakfast last week during a trip to Seattle, I pulled out my phone and turned to Yelp. There were a few places nearby but CJs was a little closer to where we were staying so we ventured that way. There is a diner across the street and we would've went to it instead had the woman leaving CJs not told us we had to go in. So in we went. Delicious! The breakfast was so good and the portions were enormous! I had the eggs benedict with tomatoes and the hollandaise was very tasty and not a "yellow-orange sauce" someone else described. The hashbrowns were nice and crispy and the red potatoes my mom had were just as good, if not better than the hashbrowns. My favorite part? Our super personable waiter who turned us onto his strawberry lemonade mimosas. WHAT?! That is definitely becoming a staple! In terms of cost, it wasn't the cheapest breakfast I've ever had but for 3 full meals, 3 cups of coffee and 5 mimosas...I thought $70 was pretty good. Overall, I'd definitely come back here on my next trip and I think my family would as well. My mom's husband even kept remarking it was one of the best breakfasts he's had in a long time.

Great Low Key Breakfast Spot! However, I have seen times that you must wait in line for a bit. Food is Good, Service is Decent. A great place to go that is not too expensive!

My wife and I enjoyed breakfast at CJ's Eatery, again, Saturday morning, at about 10:00 a.m. We did not have to wait for a table. My wife really loves the Corned Beef Hash here, and so she ordered it again. As usual, the hash was scrumptious. The Salmon Skillet, which I ordered for the first time, was delicious and something that I look forward to ordering again. The ambience was pleasant and the men's bathroom was clean. Thin paper napkins are provided. The staff obviously collaborates well with one another to serve the diners in a friendly and efficient way. CJ's will continue to be a favorite destination for breakfast.

Get the chicken fried steak. I crave it every Sunday for brunch! Yummy steak smothered with the most delicious bacon and sausage gravy, my sister and boyfriend always ask for a few bites! The scrambles are good as well. I have never tried any lunch menu items, but I hear they are good. Service is always great and everyone is always prompt and enthusiastic to fill your coffees and waters!

Hit the spot! I'm a visitor to the city and discovered this spot on yelp. After carefully comparing reviews/photos we took the 4 block stroll down there. It was Labor Day so I expected it to be rockin. The greeter(man) seemed very stressed by the volume of people and was very impersonal however was unexpectedly spot on with his wait time quote. I actually picked this restaurant because of the red potatoes picture I saw on their yelp page. They were yummy! I can't stand when restaurants deep fry potatoes for a breakfast side so I was very pleased by the clean flavor which had grilled and green onions and light spice. I was super happy that they offered vegetarian sausage(generous portion at that). The highlight of our experience was actually our server. This young man was impressively accommodating and I'm not gonna lie we worked him with the requests. He had such a genuine attitude and was very personable. He deserved the fat tip. Other then that it was a very basic menu/ambiance with average ingredient quality. Great eat and go or hangover breakfast joint, but I probably wouldn't bring say my in-laws here for breakfast.

Surprisingly very good. I didn't have high expectations, but I was craving a chicken fried steak and it blew me away! It was very, very delicious. The gravy was pretty amazing. Even the hash browns and eggs tasted really good. I don't know if I was just really hungry, but everything tasted delicious, even the toast! Seriously though, that chicken fried steak and that gravy. Heavenly.

Sometimes it is hard for me to believe that I have not reviewed a place that I have been to many times. This is just such a moment. I have eaten so many times at CJs that i cannot count them. I like the location. Belltown is quiet early in the morning so it is more relaxing than the downtown possibilities. The food and service are always fine.

I wish you could rate in half stars, it'd be a 4 1/2 since you aren't going to eat anything that's a culinary masterpiece or mindblowing here, but I'd rather give it five stars than 4. I have never had a bad breakfast here. I have eaten here roughly once a month since I was 8 years old and my dad took me here before we went to garage sales. The menu has changed significantly over the years, but the core of what they do which is delicious breakfast items using products from local companies (fruits and vegs, Uli's sausage etc) has stayed the same. Get the roasted potatoes instead of the hashbrowns, wayyyyy better. They execute comfort items really well, the corned beef hash and biscuits and gravy here are both excellent, they have a number of rotating specials and pastries that are much different every time I stop in, and aside from crowded weekends, service is fast, super friendly and knowledgeable. Stop here some time for breakfast and you'll find yourself going out of your way for it some mornings.

The food here is okay. The way they cooked the pancakes was rather sloppily done and I could have done better myself. I think the cook they have now isn't experienced enough or rather the way they cooked the food I had reflects poorly on their experience or lack thereof. (Or it took them too long to make new pancake batter, which they should've done early the night before anyway) Secondly, I want to mention that I ordered during lunch and it was only at 40-45% capacity. It seemed as if there were more servers than cooks because the way the servers walked around conveyed the message to me that they weren't prompt, punctual and fast about their business. By my calculative assumption, I would say they are understaffed as far as cooks in the back go. All I know is, if I were to cook what I had ate at this establishment but at home, it would not have taken me 15 minutes to get my food ready. Furthermore, it is also a calculative assumption that the grill they have in the back is commercial grade, so it really should NOT take 15 minutes to make 3 sloppily made blueberry pancakes + 2 sunny side up eggs + a few strips of bacon. So either the cook isn't experienced enough to handle the 40-45% capacity of the diners in the venue in a timely manner, or they are understaffed and do not have the proper equipment. I won't be eating here again unless Zombies take over the world and I had to eat here. Otherwise, they don't seem to respect peoples' time and energy since I had burned both so much of mine waiting for my order to come. And it's clear that so many people who had reviewed this establishment don't respect their own time and energy either, that or maybe the staff or cook in the back was just having a slow and shitty day.

Only been here a few times but I have never been disappointed. Can't quite give it a 5 but it is a very good and satisfying breakfast place. Highlights: Chicken Fried Steak, 6 Different Mimosa offerings, Staff, OJ, Omlettes, Menu size/variety I do, desperately, try to try new menu items but I generally get the Chicken Fried Steak - so good. I like their omlettes as well since I usually am disappointed with the blandness of omletts. Never tried any of their mimosas, but having so many options makes you feel like they encourage morning/day drinking - i like that. I am veeery particular about OJ - this has a little pulp and is a little tart - classic. Staff is always bright-eyed and bushy tailed. Lowlights: Toast, Hashbrowns, General Standardness. There is nothing incredibly unique or special about the setting or atmosphere in CJ's. It's just a good place to get breakfast. The toast is just toast though - I think a little pre-buttering or more interesting choices in breads would convey a higher sense of care. Also, the hashbrowns (I hate to say) are not that good - unseasoned and forgettable. This is a shame - a great breakfast place MUST know how to sling a peppery hash. Fair prices, good portions.Done better than a lot of places.

I love eggs benedict. If its on the menu, I order it. Usually I choose breakfast places based on it they have my favorite dish. The eggs Benny was solid, the ham was more like lunch meat then a slab, the portion of meat was generous and tasty. I ate alone white my husband was working in the city. The service was average. I will go back if I am staying in the neighborhood next time I visit Seattle.

First time here, and the food & service was easily the best breakfast we've had in Seattle! Can't wait to try another menu option when we return!

Really really good breakfast. Really good. I won breakfast with my eggs Benedict. I went classic. Hollandaise was very good. The ham was fantastic and griddles a bit for some color and caramelization. Eggs poached just right. My son had the biscuits with chorizo gravy. Very good too. Mom had the regular biscuits and gravy. Pretty darn good, and that from a Southern boy who likes his biscuits and gravy. My sister had the blintzes. She was a little disappointed because they came out less than hot and cooled quickly. Tasty but a little off timing. Hashbrowns were worthy. Really good. The bacon was properly cooked - crispy but not burnt. And started good quality meat. Coffee was good but nothing special. Anyway, it was a great breakfast.

We've all been there. You wake up one weekend morning, a little stiff and blurry-eyed from the night before. You feel like eating a real breakfast. Not some haute cuisine masterpiece from a crowded, trendy hot spot, but some thing and some place simple. A comfortable local spot that serves breakfast all day with friendly people and good service. A place with pancakes and french toast and eggs and toast and Benedicts and omelettes and fresh juice and coffee. A place that serves real shredded hash browns and not those damn country potatoes so many places are in love with. You know, BREAKFAST! If this is what you're looking for then look no further. CJ's is a local diner with friendly service, a great menu, and a nice location. The food isn't fancy, or unique, or so much better than other diners. But it is consistently good, and served by great people who are cheerful and friendly. Too me, CJ's is perfect. So when you get that hunger, now you know where to feed it.

Swedish pancakes are excellent. I like regular flapjacks but would take these Swedish pancakes any day over a traditional pancake. All the food was great, service was friendly and prompt. The atmosphere was nice and laid back. Great place to have a Sunday afternoon brunch.

I live near CJ's Eatery and it's not a bad place to eat. But, I do think they need to have more attention to detail. Last December I had a friend visit and we had breakfast there, the breakfast was good up until the point that my friend found an eggshell in her scrambled eggs. We mentioned it to the management so they would be aware of it. Things like this happen and it was no big deal. This past Wednesday I had breakfast there and ordered the meat lover's scramble. I was almost finished with my meal and felt something foreign in my mouth. I took the item out of my mouth and discovered that it was a very small piece of plastic wrap. I didn't mention it to anyone because I was in a hurry. An eggshell I can understand but a piece of plastic wrap?? I like their food but I'm starting to wonder about the the sanitary conditions in the kitchen.

Being taken to this place by two different Seattlelites independently from each other is already a pretty good indicator of the quality of the place. CJ's is centrally located in Belltown and a great place for breakfast - it's nice, it's clean, it's friendly, service is fast, and the food leaves nothing to ask for (except a second stomach-portions are sizeable!). There are veggie options too - on my last two visits I went for a Greek skillet, a lovely mix of fried red potatoes, spinach, feta...all topped off with eggs of your choice. My second pick were veggie eggs Benedict (you don't just get the usual Florentine choice of Spinach, avocado or tomato are also on the menu), bit heavy on the hollandaise but otherwise delicious. If you go for breakfast here don't plan on having lunch - you won't need it!

Close to our hotel and in a nice area, we heard this was a great breakfast joint. It was very busy for 9am on a Saturday, obviously a local favourite. Coffee was not great. We had the Denver omelette (my boyfriend said its was 'okay') and I had crab cakes and eggs. Came with hash brown which were delicious. Eggs perfectly cooked and runny. The crab cakes LOOKED good, but disappointed. Crispy outside but very soft, mayonnaisey inside. I'd maybe go back and try something else- you probably can't go wrong with classic eggs and bacon. Their portions were large and prices were decent. Service was excellent.

Deli items looked dried out. Not much to pick from but would be ok if you needed something and didn't want to go to the grocery store. Tired to order a bagel and cream cheese but he said they don't make sandwiches til 1pm!? Um it's lunch time! What else would anyone want from there. Wierd.

Came here for breakfast. Looked like an office building but whatever, it's all about the food. I just wanted some scrabbled eggs with sausage and bacon mixed in with potatoes and onions. I got exactly that. Thanks! Good food and service.

  • Jessica L.

This is definitely a greasy-spoon sort of establishment, and by the looks of it they cater to mostly tourists. Good for a morning after being out late!! That's okay though. I was specific with what I wanted to order and they made it happen with zero problems. And they were fast! Good prices. Good coffee.

  • Milo D.

besides the food being excellent and having good service, what I really like about CJ's is that they do a good job of getting people in and out during breakfast so that the two times I went, I didn't have to wait an exceptionally long time to get a seat.

  • Sarah Z.

Since the first time I went to CJ's, it was love at first bite. They have something for everyone and no one will leave hungry or disappointed. Although I have my few go-to menu items, I love that they do weekly specials. Their coffee is rich and flavorful, the staff is friendly and attentive, their prices are more than reasonable. I have never had a bad meal here and I sometimes wake up in the morning craving their greek skillet (my go-to). My only complaint is I wish their hours were longer because my craving for breakfast doesn't end at 3PM. If you are in the area and are indecisive about where to go, stop in here and you won't be disappointed. Guaranteed to satisfy even the pickiest of people.

Great diner type food, perfect for when you're just looking for a good solid breakfast place in downtown. Nice selection of mimosas too :). The hash browns were incredible, definitely different from the usual fried potato taste you normally get. All in all a great place.

Good breakfasts (my girlfriend's was better) with a view of the space needle. It feels like a store front, with two full walls of windows, to be honest the place has a crappy flow to it, and the foyer/hostess station is hideous. However, the view provided out those windows kept my eyes averted, so all was well. Service was great and courteous. In fact, we were seated almost immediately, in spite of a full house, at a near manic pace. The food was good, but the biscuits and gravy were ORGASMIC!!! (And I HATE biscuits and gravy!) The herb gravy really made it extra yummy! All around, I recommend!

I had brunch here and was so surprised to find a 'lighter side' brunch that would fill me up and not break the bank. I had a breakfast sandwich and it was yummy. for 4.95 I had 2 pieces of bacon, an egg, cheese, on an english muffin. I was happy to find a place that was a good more classic take on brunch. It was simple and hit the spot.

The lunch food is pretty good, and the breakfast food is nasty. I had a creepy western omelet here that was strangely watery. The coffee tastes like a dirty paper towel, and might do more harm than good. I also had a great open faced turkey sandwich with gravy and corn for lunch that was awesome. Very friendly and competent service here too, you can tell the staff has all worked here a long time.

Three words, "I'm coming back." This place honestly has the best corned beef and hash with eggs. The service was great, staff was friendly and restaurant was clean. This place has good turnaround on orders and when I mean service was great, bus boys, hostess and servers refilled water promptly and coffee. They didn't dawdle... how a restaurant should be! Love it and recommend it!

I loved this place! My first visit to Seattle was successful just because I found this place. Ordered French toast and it was no ordinary toast. The serving size was too huge for me after Canadian serving sizes. Cant wait to visit again and try the other things. Be fully prepared to wait atleast 30-45 mins if you're going there after 11am.

Really cool atmosphere and open feeling. The eggs Benedictus was maybe the best I have ever had. Our waiter was cool and really helped us order or drink called a something rose it is way better than a normal mimosa. Highly recommend!

if you don't want to spend a lot on breakfast and not be in a huge crowd in Pike's Place, CJ's is the place! We had noticed CJ's because of their $5.99 breakfast deal sign. Should we give it a try? Of course! We sat down and immediately brought some water and coffee. We browsed the menu which had many many items I could have eaten. Marion berry streusel coffee cake? Yes please! I actually had to ask what Marion berry was and she explained it was a mixture of Raspberry and Blackberry. Well, it was definitely tasty and worth the extra calories (if you're counting)! I had the special omelette that day which had ham, spinach, red pepper and havarti cheese. So huge and delicious! The hash browns on the side were done perfectly! My breakfast became the breakfast of champions! I would definitely recommend it and come back for more. 5 stars? Well the service here put it to that level. They were always coming by with coffee and water refills. Our food was served quickly and our waitress was so friendly and delightful! CJ's might not be well known but they will stay on my list of places to dine in Seattle. Fantastic!

We had an outstanding breakfast here, in every sense of the word! The food was old-school, belly-filling, diner breakfast - from omelettes to oatmeal to fluffy french toast. The service was spot-on - friendly and got the order right. Came out piping hot. The decor is like a coffee shop. Price was very, very fair.

I had two great breakfasts here in Seattle. It has a big menu and does all your standard breakfast options and best of all its really affordable. Service was great, had no trouble getting seated on a Friday and a Sunday morning. great waitress both times. I was looking for a nice sitdown breakfast place that didn't try to bankrupt me and this was it. I'm back next month and I'll be definitely back here. They have so much to choose from !

Basically a diner. I had the French Dip (5 stars) and my son had a burger which he enjoyed. Staff was friendly and it was an OK value. I would come again when I'm back in Seattle

A solid 3 stars. I had the Bourbon Street omelet with hashbrowns and toast. Everything was good. I just somehow thought the combo of items in the omelet might "jump" more with flavor. The service was very quick and attentive on a Sunday morning.

Awesome food, great service, and the wait wasn't too long on a Saturday morning. I consider myself a foodie, but my husband is not. Ordered the spinach Benedict, the hollandaise was delicious. My husband ordered the Mediterranean melt, and he loved it! The portion was huge, enough for two people to share. Next time we visit Seattle, we will be coming back.

Best! There's always ample street parking, you get a table very fast, and your coffee cup is never empty! I love love love their pancakes with apples & cinnamon! And their French toast comes with a side of fruit. They have a great breakfast drink menu of mimosas that I have yet to try. But it's an excuse to come back! I love this spot, love the location. You look out the window to see the Space Needle, and you walk a couple blocks to Pike Place. It's delicious food with a fun ambiance!

We were looking for a simple breakfast...hash browns, eggs, toast and bacon. Oh, we found it at CJ's. The breakfast was good and very reasonable. If you get in before 9 am Mon-Fri, they have some killer breakfast deals. Early bird eggs, hash browns and toast for 5.95. What a deal. You can tell it's a local eatery, hence another reason why I know this place is good. Not too far of a walk from Pike's Place for us tourist. When I'm back in Seattle, I'll definitely be back!!!!

Great food. Great prices. Great service. Huge portions. I love that you can come here at ANY TIME that they're open, and get some good breakfast eats. I wake up late on the weekends (I mean, like noon late!). But I still want some breakfast foods. CJ's is the perfect solution. The environment is super casual, but when you really just want great food and service, there's no where else you need to look for breakfast. So go. It's good. :)

My man and I enjoyed an extremely pleasant breakfast at this delightful dive. It was bumpin in there but we were still seated without a wait. They don't have a liquor license so no bloody marys, but we were tempted by our server to try a "red beer" - beer with tomato juice in it. Yes, it sounds disgusting, but it was actually really yummy - with a little salt, pepper and hot sauce, it was quite good and refreshing. I got the two eggs with Uli's Italian sausage breakfast, which came with home browns and toast for only $10.95 - a great deal! I also enjoyed a mimosa. Will definitely return!

I get the buzz for this place. It's not over priced, the food is delicious, service prompt and friendly, big breakfast selection and, as an added bonus, great kids menu. Due to their popularity, it may feel like an elbow room establishment. We enjoyed their biscuits and gravy and chicken fried chicken, which both had chorizo sausage gravy...mmm! The chorizo sausage gravy was on the weekend special menu so I don't know if it's a regular item. The food was fresh and portion generous. What pleased us is that their children's breakfast menu was $1.99 and lunch menu $2.99! My only con is that their drip coffee is on the acidic side. I'll try the americano or latté next time.

CJ's Eatery is a solid place for your typical American breakfast. It is nothing fancy but solidly executed breakfast fare. I had a bacon omelet and it was good. They made the breakfast potatoes nicely (and extra crispy per my request). My dining companions seemed to like their food too - and were pleasantly surprised by their twist on the biscuits and gravy with a smoky spicy sauce. They also had delicious mimosas for $5 which were a nice way to start Sunday funday! We had good, friendly service which rounded this up to 4 stars.

Perfect breakfast spot. Great service plenty of seating. Yummy mimosas. Had the omelette special. Large portion, and amazing value in the kids menu. 1.99 for kids meals large portions. Wondering where to get breakfast come to CJ s. Visiting from LA

We were seated the moment we walked in and had water and menus within seconds. Wait time for breakfast was short even though they were fairly busy. Very attentive wait staff. The biscuits and gravy are a great morning cure after an evening of bar crawling in Belltown. You will not be disappointed.

Looking for the comfort of small-town diner food in the heart of Seattle? CJ's is the place! I was super excited to find they had biscuits and gravy, much less that they had a special chorizo biscuits and gravy, and it was absolutely delicious. My fellow diners tried a variety of foods--the reuben, a club sandwich, and french toast. Everything looked awesome and got good reviews from them while eating. This isn't a super fancy place, but it's also not too expensive. Perfect for families visiting from out of town, or for those locals wise enough to judge this place by the food rather than first appearances (it looks like it was once a hotel lobby on the inside!). All around, good stuff. I'll definitely be back at some point for more chorizo B&G, I'm sure!

I will drive from Marysville on any given day just to eat breakfast at Cj's! Me, my fiance, and our two boys love coming here! The boys love getting a huge boat of fruit and pancakes and I am In looove with the biscuits & gravy! The atmosphere in Cj's is just right for me because I am uncomfortable eating in a lot of places but it is perfect here. Our little secret spot... GREAT COOKS & the waitresses are sweethearts!

Incredible corned beef hash, as others have said. Juicy, delicious, and definitely housemade. No canned food product here :) We also got the blintzes, which were filling and dessert-ish. Hot chocolate was good. Cappucino was great! So much delicious foam :) No wait at 10 AM on a Saturday, but not because of a lack of customers--there is just a decent amount of seating. Recommended! :D

If you like your pancakes thinner and buttery, then you are looking for their Swedish Pancakes. I got to try some and enjoyed them. I ordered the southern fried chicken in chorizo gravy, which was a spicier version of sausage gravy, and red potatoes on the side, and it was good.

I don't like eating breakfast at the hotel, so I enjoy venturing out and looking for local places to dine. Today, it was CJ's. Immediately greeted and seated (Tuesday morning), i got a nice corner seat by the window. Decided to go meatless this morning (crazy, right?) and ordered the Greenwich Frittata (spinach, onion, garlic, mushroom, green peppers, and havarti) with tomato slices and herb encrusted red russet potatoes. I also ordered it with egg whites. The waitress brought hot sauce, which was needed. Overall, the dish was good; I kind of frowned as the greasiness of the havarti (that's just me). Will try something new next time.

Large portions, friendly service, solid food! As others have mentioned, it's not super creative or fancy, but everything tastes fresh and it's nice and comfy is an easily-accessible location. Great for an early morning meal on the weekends!

A very good breakfast stop. Very prompt and super happy and polite service. The food is above average, I had the Northwest Benedict. Reasonable prices too. A definite recommendation.

I love CJ's. The food here is solid diner-type food. I've never had anything I didn't like. The service is always great, even when it's packed (usually on weekend mornings it is pretty packed, but the wait is never too long). Everyone, from the servers to the busboys, is helpful and friendly, and drink refills are often and plenty. It's also kid-friendly - they have plenty of high chairs and a good kids menu.

Okay, first of all I used to live 2 blocks away and this has always been my favorite breakfast place. Now that I live further away, I can't go as often. But today, I decided to make a special trip. For the first time, I decided to order lunch. Every time I have eaten there, the service and breakfast food were great. Boy did my opinion change today. I decided to order the Buffalo chicken sandwich. I saw that on the menu the sandwich didn't come with cheese, so I had to add it for an extra charge. Fine. I ask for cheddar cheese. Well, it comes and there is no cheese on it. I say, "they forgot my cheese." So, the waitress goes back to get cheese (instead of taking the sandwich to have cheese put on it), comes back out and says, "yeah that sandwich doesn't come with cheese." I say, "I know. That's why I ordered some." She looks at her pad and says, "oh, so you did. Sorry." But, she Didn't even offer me any cheese or anything at all to make up for it, not to mention I asked for a side of sauce that she forgot after I finally found her 10 minutes later. So, my sandwich was not only cheeseless, but it was dry and not flavorful at all. It consisted of two micro chicken strips (that didn't even overhang the bun) that seemed like the small bits you get in the bag of Tyson chicken strips from Wal-Mart. They were so small that there were places throughout the sandwich where I was just eating bun. I am a person who doesn't like confrontation and find complaining embarrassing, but I doubt I'll be back here for a long time.

Serves all the usual suspects when it comes to brunch; omlettes, benny's, pancakes, french toast and much more. Had breakfast here on a Monday late morning, so it was seat yourself. We were brought waters and the menu within a few minutes. Discovered lox = smoked salmon, which we saw on another tables eggs benny order and they didn't disappoint. I had the corned beef hash with poached eggs, a side of sour dough bread (buttered for you and deliciously crunchy), and a choice of a number of sides such as potatoes or cottage cheese, which I didn't need but certainly made for a hearty meal. Large portions that taste great! Thought I was about to have plate envy until I got into my meal and soon forgot about the benny's on the table. The ambiance, well it's a diner that offers cheap early bird breakfast specials, can't expect much here, comfortable enough though. Fast and friendly service, convenient location and portions large enough to keep you full all day. Oh and the coffee is pretty good too. I'd go back for breakfast.

We really enjoyed our breakfast here. Andrea was our waitress & was very attentive during the entire meal. They have good prices for the kids meals. Hubby had the corned beef hash, eggs and subbed 2 pancakes for the toast ($1.75 charge) and said it was really good. Instead of tiny diced corn beef pieces it actually had large chunks of pulled corned beef. My french toast & bacon was sooooo good- the bacon was thick slices and very tasty. The french toast was made out of challulah bread and very filling. Ordered the 3 slices but would have been filled with the 2 slice order. My son ordered the kids pancake & sausage- they made a happy face out of the pancake, 2 strawberry chunks w/ whipped cream, butter &the sausage link. It was really cute & thoughtful! We will definitely come back bext time we're visiting Seattle.

What a great diner for breakfast and lunch! I ate breakfast here over the weekend and enjoyed it so much thought I would try lunch a few days later and was pleasantly surprised it was just as good as breakfast! Only downside was the long waits for breakfast and servers were clearly busy as restaurant was more than full but this is acceptable with great food and attentiveness once you were served or if you needed anything. Would recommend to anyone who is in the area looking for a good breakfast (or lunch) spot!

They are so incredibly attentive here! Our waitress was so pleasant as well, but it was nice to see how well the staff works together and communicates. Food was delicious! I had an Easter special of croissant french toast...amazing! Also a side of hashbrowns that were well cooked. My only disappointment is not being able to be a regular customer as i live in California!

Delicious Brunch and Breakfast. My siblings and I always come here on our Birthdays. Friendly service. Sometimes a long wait, because it's so busy, but well worth it. I recommend the French Toast.

In from the east coast for a few days and found this place on Yelp. Solid reviews so I took my team with me to eat. I wish I had actually timed how long it took them to bring out meals for 6 people because it was FAST. Portions were good and the price was great. Staff worked very hard to make sure everything was as desired. Several servers or bus boys who weren't our waitress asked us through the meal if we needed anything else when they walked by even though our waitress was doing a great job. Thanks for the hospitality.

I am first to admit, I have high expectations. When I pay for food at a restaurant, I pretty much expect that the food will be at least as good if not better than what I or my husband can make at home. Are we chefs? No. But we can cook pretty well. CJ's has food I would expect to find at a typical diner. Ok, that is fine. I order a scramble and grits on the side. The scramble was mediocre at best. The taste was reminiscent of a Denny's or Shari's. Rye toast tasted like white bread, it was not good. The absolute WORST part of my meal was the grits. They were so soupy, bland and just awful. The service was friendly, but not enough to make me want to return.

They tried, I truly believe they did, but this place was only okay. I suppose for what it is--a basic diner--it was fine, but could've been better all around. The staff had odd interactions with us and other tables, talking a lot more about themselves--being tired and the coffee not doing enough to wake them up, being a stand up comic, etc.--than focusing on their responsibilities. The food was meh. I'd skip it and find another option.

Visiting Seattle, and wanted to have a bite to eat that was neither breakfast nor lunch. Here i found the perfect spot. Had the awesome chicken fried steak and eggs with THE best gravy...ever. Very reasonably priced. Check it out. Also, lunch items that looked delicious...but I had a hankerin' for a toothy brunch meal!

Fantastic! Husband ordered the chicken fried steak And i had the hombre. While his was Delish I think it's a bit heavy for breakfast so you have be in the mood for that. The hombre was just out of this world. Service was excellent and their salsa was like nothing I've ever had before. Instead of smashing the tomatoes and ingredients, they were all sliced. We both tried the mimosas and they did not skimp on the champagne. Turns out our server was the owner! Talk about impressed!
