Just ok. Pros: a ton of meat. SO MUCH MEAT. Good amount of cheese, fast-ish service. The place seemed pretty clean inside. Cons: a bit pricey for what you get. Not that flavorful (and I even got the pepper steak), and despite the packaging and bread being absolutely coated in grease, the meat was strangely dry. Bread was so-so. After eating it my hotel room smelled terrible (and it wasn't because of flatulence, though it's true I didn't feel so great post-cheesesteak). Just the greasy bag in the hotel room trash stunk up the room, and not in a good way. I went because it was close to my hotel; I see no reason to return. Share review Edit review Delete review

Excellent food. Fast. But the cashier needs more energy to entertain customer. Get your breath savers ready if you love onions on you sandwich. Definitely would recommend to my friends who's visiting Seattle.

I was slayed by the cheese and steak gods into a puddle of whiz. They used a fresh bun, the broke out fresh meat, they cooked it, the applied cheese wiz and they left off the onions at my request. My ears are still ringing because my jaw dropped. I ate it and now i feel like I need a shower or maybe a siesta.

I'm honestly not a huge fan of cheese-steak sandwiches. Came here right after the lunch rush was gone. So that was nice to be able to order and sit down right away. The venue was small, they had about 3 high top tables and a bar table against the window. They also had seating available outside. We decided to sit inside because it was freezing to me outside. The Grub. [[ DONNIE $10.25 ]] yelp.com/biz_photos/calo… This cheese-steak sandwich comes with fried onions, mushrooms, steak, and provolone cheese. OMG ITS SO BIG. I couldn't even eat the whole thing, I had to give the other half to someone else.

We happened to walk by and we love cheesesteaks, so this chance meeting was meant to be! We had the pepper cheesesteak with provolone, and it was delicious. The meat was tender and the flavors melded together nicely. The portion size is perfect for one super hungry person or two people to share as a snack. Make sure to grab a fork as it can get a little messy, and some chili peppers also if you like a spicy kick.

I wanted to love it but I don't get the hype. Service was fast and friendly, and my cheesesteak was made quickly. That's why there are 2 stars. There wasn't much flavor ... the meat was really bland. Luckily there was ketchup... I was really disappointed but I'm glad I tried it. Now I know this isn't a lunch spot for me.

So I was up in PSNW with the family on the way back from the World Cup in Vancouver and this guy Al I've been talking to kept saying he's got the best Cheesesteaks. I think he even said, "Best cheesesteaks on the west coast!" so if I'm in the area I better stop in. With a brag like that, you've got to check it out. So we went to the Downtown store in Seattle to see if "He" was as good as he said. Well.... Here's the thing. I've traveled a lot. Eaten at a ton of places. I'm usually under impressed when a place makes a claim like, the best or awesome or whatever, but not this time. And BTW not usually inclined to do a review. Good or bad. Not only were his Cheesesteaks the bomb, but he's a really great guy too. Even better, he got my 8 year old daughter Avery to eat one. The only thing she usually eats is Mac-n-Cheese, chicken nuggets or a bag of junk food. So in short... Go hit Al's "Calozzi's". Bring your kid that is super fussy. Don't order off the menu. Ask for Al and tell him Billy Ruff sent you. Tell him what flavors you like. Tell him what flavors your kid's, spouse and anyone else you can bring like and let him bring you what he knows will work. That's what he does best. Phillie style by way of a cheesesteak. Love your style Al!

Their sandwiches are ok. Nothing mind blowing but they'll fill you up. Wish they would offer more free sides, like sliced pickles, peppers, carrots. The flavor just isn't there for me. I've had way better Philly's and I didn't have to be in Philly to get it. It's kind of a big mush of meat and cheese that don't do enough to stand out on their own. The biggest problem with this place is, the food does not match the cost. I walk out of there spending $16 when I could get a better sandwich for half the cost at Potbelly's or even Jersey Mikes. It's ridiculous and I feel their prices are that high because of the area and customers have a bit more $$$ to spend than others. However, it's a good Plan B if the Tat's Truck line is too long on Thursdays and you gotta get that greasy meat sodium packed sandwich fix.

As a east coaster - I approve of this sammich wit onions My coworkers did not understand the whiz but it is truly what makes the steak.

You will thank Tat's long line for coming here. Tat's will be a distant memory after one of these puppies. Holy gaaaawd (Philly drawl here) it was tasty and big. Calozzi's is great for a big lunch or a fun after bars spurge. Myself never having a cheesesteak from Philly before I can't speak of the authenticity, but from what I understand it's the real deal. Get it "wit" and onions and all that jazz, and it's enough to feed two people easily. I went on a lunch break, split the damn thing with a friend and still struggled with food coma after just half of one!! Perhaps it's even more awesome because the guys at the counter were crazy nice and funny and from the counter yelled at a guy smoking too close to their entrance. Very entertaining. If you feel like being a good sport, eat half and give the other half to a homeless urban camper in the area. They may like a nice sandwhich too ya know. ;)

Went on a "Foodie Trip Bday" for my brother's celebration and one of the stops we had to try was Calozzi's. I was struggling for a bit at the front on which to order and one of the friendly brother's suggested (without me asking) the philly with the WHIZ. Lol! How did he know I was confused which one to get without me asking anything? haha! Now that's what I call anticipating customer's needs. ;) Glad he suggested it because we loved it! I've had a lot of phily cheesesteaks, but never with the Whiz--so i strongly suggest to go for it when u do. =) Look how happy my bro (bday boy) and Kisato were with their cheesesteaks..lol yelp.com/biz_photos/qyWk… EXCELLENT Customer service! They really make you feel genuinely valued and you can tell their passion and pride on what they deliver. While I was waiting for our big footlong sandwhiches, it seems that he knew everyone walking in the door! It says a lot when you get that much "regulars" dining there! PRICE of a philly is around $8 which i think is great value for the quality and portions!. LOTS of chopped meat (go with onions added! yum!) LOCATION: Pioneer Square--between Trinity Nightclub and Last Supperclub (lol..awesome place for greasy goodness to soak up all the alcohol you drank after a crazy night!) NEWS: They are expanding this year and adding a bigger dine in area!

Huge portions! Awesome cheesesteaks. The meat was minced really fine and the cheese melted in everywhere. I liked the hoagie too. The bread was dense enough to hold all the fillings without getting soggy, yet still soft. The cheese whiz fries were great! So fattening and full of everything bad for you, yet so delicious! Great service. A good find by our friend that frequented there.

You know what grinds my gears? When places use Steak-umm and try to pass off that nonsense as a cheesesteak. No such worry at Calozzi's. Just thinly-sliced beef. And fried onions. And gallons upon gallons of Cheeze Whiz. Oh sweet Cheeze Whiz. It's exactly what you'd expect at a place like this; nothing less, nothing more. It isn't healthy by any stretch of the imagination, but oh, is it delicious. It's not pretentious, it's not fancy. It is gigantic, and can easily feed two. It's aromatic, and yes, you'll reek of grease when you leave, but man, is it ever worth it. A total gut bomb, but it's a gut bomb you'll happily devour! Wit wiz, and of course, the wiz fries too. No fountain drinks either -- just 20oz bottles.

Really decent sandwiches here. I've been to Philly, but never had a cheesesteak there, probably because in that city, I would be stabbed for ordering without cheese. The guys working here were super friendly and did not even bat an eye at my order. My husband, of course, got the version with the Whiz on it. The bread was really good, substantial enough to hold up to the meat, but not overwhelming. Really good casual lunch spot in the concrete jungle.

Every morning when I sign into Yelp I am greeted with a cheesesteak. Not that Yelp gives me a free cheesesteak, but that there is a picture of Calozzi's cheesesteak. It looks like the most amazing thing ever created. Mind you, I have never been to Philly, and the closest thing I have ever had to a Philly Cheesesteak is a hot pocket. But I knew that I wanted Calozzi's since the first moment I saw the delicious pic of it under the "Hot on Yelp" section. I watch enough Food Network to know all about the Cheesesteak and the whole Pat's vs. Geno turf war. When I finally make it to Philly, I already know that I am going to be a Pat's Girl. Geno's has all sorts of fancy lights to draw people to his location. While Pat does it with his steak, which he chops up super small, which I know is how I like my cheesesteak, even before I had it. Also, I hate vegetables. Whenever I order a burger or a sandwich anywhere, I always have to tell them no tomatoes, or no pickles. But with the cheesesteak, there are no pesky veggies to remove. The only thing they put on it is grilled onions, which are delicious and I love, plus, its super easy to get no onions you just have to order it "witout" When I finally made it to Calozzi's, I ordered my sandwich WHIZ, WIT. Which for all you not in the know means with cheese whiz and onions. I love cheese in any form, and the Whiz seems to be the way to go with the Philly Cheesesteak, so I wanted it to be as authentic as possible. Plus, you need some grilled onions to give it a little extra flavor. This sandwich did not disappoint. It was full of delicious meat, covered in cheese whiz, with small grilled onions throughout. The bread? OMG! It was crunchy on the outside, and soft on the inside. For $8 this sandwich is a steal, it was full of toppings, and delicious. I was stuffed! I could barely make the walk to Qwest Field afterward. Calozzi's is super cool too cuz its a small family business, and everyone is amazingly nice! When I went, they were giving away free pizza. I didn't try any, but it looked amazing, especially the white cheese pizza. I wanted a piece so bad, but I came for a cheesesteak, and I wasn't leaving without it. I figured I would maybe grab a slice after my sandwich, but there was no room. But who just gives away free pizza? That is awesome! This may be my new favorite food stop before Sounder's games. The only thing I will change though is ordering it Wit provolone instead of Whiz. I tried the Whiz, but I didn't love it. I already know I love provolone, and my boyfriend loved his sandwich wit provolone. They also have meatball sandwiches that looked amazing. Yelpers have never disappointed me with their sandwich recommendations. Paseo and Salumi are both some of my favorite restaurants in the city. Now I can add Calozzi's to that list as well. Thank you Hot on Yelp. Thank you.

Sigh, it's like being back in the old country (east coast). As a native New Yorker I've had my fair share of Philly Cheesesteaks, and have learned not to bother outside of Philly and the Northeast. We stopped at a diner on the drive from NY to Seattle and ordered a Philly cheesesteak off the menu, only to have a hamburger bun with a slab of steak and a piece of american cheese melted on it. Huh, thought they called that a hamburger. And after a few similar experiences, I just decided that except for trips back home i ought to let "Philly Cheesesteaks" alone. And then everyone starts posting about this place called Calozzis. The owner is from Philly you say? Everyone seems to be agreeing the sammies are awesome? Hmm, alright, maybe I'll give this a try. Stopped by on a slow Saturday afternoon. It looked kind of like a divey pizza joint in NY, which of course felt very homey. Immediately warmed up to the friendly guy at the counter as we talked about back East, and I as a NY Mets fan gave him some shit about the Phillies, and he rightfully gave me some shit back, which is almost unfair-ly easy at this point in time =o). My husband decided he wanted to do Mozzarella, and since I didn't think I could finish a whole sandwich by myself, I agreed. It was good, one of the best Philly Steaks I've had, and definitely the best I've had outside of the East coast. In NY provolone is more popular than Wiz, and it's what I'm used to, so next time I'll get a whole one myself, and do Provolone, and maybe the time after that I'll build up the courage to go Wiz =o).

Why I do declare, this may have been the first time I've consumed Cheez Whiz since I was the tender age of 10. Was I wary? Yes. Was I a little grossed out at first? Yes. But in the end, all was well with the world. Hailing from (somewhere) on the East Coast, the Calozzi couple know how to put together a mean Philly Cheesesteak. My sister went to school in PA and when she first reported that the standard "cheese" used came from a can, it didn't sound too thrilling. Yet it really really works. Also good with just provolone or mozzarella, they're happy to make the ginormous sandwich with 1/2, 1/2 if so desired. Piled high with greasy chopped beef mixed in with fried onion bits ... it's a calorie bomb but worth it in that rare once in awhile. Their other menu items are fries, pizza and other sandwiches that seem boring in comparison. Sandwiched (har har) between Trinity and LSC, it's a nice alternative to the sub-par cream cheese hot dog stands that litter the streets on weekends. Plus you can go crazy with the seasonings! Everything from Johnny's to hot sauces and pepperoncinis. Best of all, it's a family owned business and you can feel the genuine warmth, friendliness and bantering in the air among the employees and customers.

Talk about a gut bomb. This is definitely the greasiest sandwich I've had in a long time. However, if you want a traditional chreese steak, this is the way too go. I would not eat here too often but if you want something rich and meaty, I think this hits the spot. While I did enjoy the sandwich, I take it for what it is and I have a feeling a lot of people may find this too greasy or cheap.

I finally found a piece of home here in the heart of Pioneer Square!! I have been hearing about this place from some time now through fellow yelpers and other friends. Being from Philly I tend to be a snob about how my cheesesteaks are made and prepared. Every one kept telling me this is one of the best and I have tried plenty in Seattle only to be left feeling disappointed and homesick. So, I decided today that I was going to stop by this little shop and get myself a cheesesteak to see if it lived up to the hype. I walked in but they weren't open yet I was soo hungry and determined that I got back into my car with my girlfriend and sat there waiting for the extra 20 mins until they did. I finally saw the open sign light up and out I rushed to order my Philly cheesesteak. I walked right in and this time I was welcome with open arms. Steve and Al are amazing and really took me back home to Philly where everyone is friendly and just like family. We reminisced about the neighborhoods we grew up in as I waited on my steak. I ordered the Philly with mozzerella and fried onions since they didn't have American cheese yet. The cheesesteak was made to perfection. Every single morsel of it. I was soo delighted that it was a chopped steak and finely chopped onion mixed in together because that is how my momma makes it back at home. The BREAD was the best and only something you can get from the Eastcoast. The brothers have it imported in which is a must because honestly the bread is what brings it home. You can't get rolls like that from here. I was super impressed by the sandwich. It was packed with so much meat and all for only $8 bucks which is a great price for how much you get. I ate every last bite of it. The brother's are very friendly and deliver great customer service. They took care of everyone that walked in right away and carried on a conversation with me as well. They dubbed me the "Cheesesteak Snob" LOL I took it as a compliment seeing that I am harsh when it comes to anything Philly related. They even invited me and my girls back for some pizza next Friday night and I think I am going to take them up on that offer. Seriously, the best Philly Cheesesteak I had in a long time but definitely the best in Seattle. I am definitely going to come here more often just to get a taste of home. FYI: the hours on yelp are wrong. I would give them a call before heading that way just in case they aren't open.

This place is GROSS! I had been to the same place for a philly before, but apparently it was a different company. I ordered a $9 sandwich, expecting it to be yummy. I got a hoggie bun filled with ground hamburger! Since when is a philly cheeseSTEAK standwich made with bland hamburger?? This is the kind of place that people only go to once, I'm pretty sure of it! I know I won't be back!

Finally, finally, finally, someone who gets cheesesteak right in Seattle. I went to school near Philly for 4 years. I practically lived on South Street. I know what a cheesesteak is supposed to look, smell and taste like. Calozzi's does too. I ordered it wit(h) provolone, as I'm not a big "wiz" fan. The steak was chopped perfectly (not diced too thin, but not left as big strips). The onions and sauce soaked right through, including into the bread, which was also crisp on the outside and just a bit crunchy right around the edges of the inside. Again, these are the little details that differentiate between a real cheesesteak and a pretender (too many people think it's a steak or roast beef sandwich, basically). Even the crinkle-cut french fries were just the right amount of crispy on the outside and warm and mushy on the inside. They have a couple other options too (meatball sub, for example) but you come here for the cheesesteak, clearly. The owners are quite clearly from Philly, just in case you were wondering. BTW - the reconfigured the old space Tat's used to inhabit so there's a bunch more seating (and more space to wait inside out of the rain). This isn't gourmet food - but if you're looking for a real cheesesteak experience this side of Philly (or maybe just west of PA) you can't do better than Calozzi's.

I had to stop to remember that I was in Seattle and not Philly. This is an actual cheesesteak. I still like Tony Lukes better but barring that, no place in the country gets it right outside of Philly except here. Glad to have one in our neck of the woods!

I was utterly dissatisfied with my burger from Dome next door, and wondered into Calozzi's to fill my tummy. Yelp happened to point to it as a highly rated local and the sign says "best Philly cheese stake in Seattle" So yeah, is this the best Philly cheese steak in Seattle (to date)? Yes. Is this close to the stuff in Philly? Um. not really. Yup, I had the original - stake with onions and cheese... it's pretty good... probably worth 3 stars. There was a friendly, rough around the edges guy behind the counter that fits in perfectly with the rest of the hole in the wall deli atmosphere. He didn't skimp at all with the stake or cheese. Slightly unfortunate for my recently developed lactose intolerance, but earned them an extra star because in this day and age of optimization for profit, this is a good old fashion hardy meal. Each sandwich is made on the spot... I'm honestly not sure how they handle it when it gets busy at lunchtime, but whatever. It satisfied my otherwise growling stomach. Probably won't come back again unless prompted, but solid for those of you looking for the closest thing to a Philly stake in Seattle.

I love philly cheesesteak and other than Monkey Paw Brewery in SD, I've been unsuccessful in finding a place that has satisfied my philly cheesesteak cravings. I love Calozzi's! My boyfriend and I were visiting Seattle for the first time and I decided to yelp places to try and Calozzi's was one of them. We arrived 15 minutes before closing and the owner told us that it was okay and we could still order and eat there. He was very friendly and fun to talk to. The owner has spectacular customer service and knows what a good philly cheesesteak should taste like as he is from Philadelphia. We ordered the philly cheesesteak with cheez whiz and man, did it blow us absolutely away! Amazing! So cheesy and meaty, it was philly cheesesteak heaven! Usually, i'd think twice before eating at a restaurant right before closing time because the quality usually isn't at its best but I have to say, based on my experience, Calozzi's is not one of those places. As soon as I go back to Seattle, I'm heading back to Calozzi's. Thank you for the great experience!

This is a great place to grab a Philly cheesesteak. It's got great flavor and service is pretty quick. Also, have to love the east coast accent of the owner who usually mans the place. My only complaint is that they chop up the meat while it's cooking. It tends to dry out the meat a lil bit but of course they have the whiz to help balance that out.

  • David P.

This is about as authentic philly as you can get. The steak is sliced nice and thin, the cheese is excellent, peppers and filling ... you get the drift. They make all the ingredients sing together. My only complaint is the bread. It's not bad bread, but it's not like the bread back east. All that said, I don't think you can find a better cheesesteak in Seattle. Worth the drive and price.

Bomb late night eats if you're anywhere around the Pioneer Square area. You pretty mug can't go wrong with any cheese choice. Orders do take forever though, so be prepared for a lengthy wait when it's busy!

The steak sandwich was pretty tasty. It's probably 2nd or 3rd best steak sandwich I've ever tasted. Tat's takes the no 1 spot for me. The bread, meat portion size, and free added toppings push Tat's to the #1 spot. I would have given Calozzi's a 4 star rating, but they seem to not cook the meat fresh. A pile of cook beef I saw and it tasted like 20 minutes less fresh. I thoroughly enjoyed the steak sandwich nonetheless.

Updated location, updated review! New downtown locale. I know some of you sports fans are sad they relocated from pioneer square -- but even though the distance is about the same I find this location easier to get to. Plus, you got the same super friendly, personable staff here. Same amazing sandwiches, and well... slightly different menu. No oven or fryer here -- so you are missing out on their pizza and super crispy delicious fries (oh I miss you french fries!). BUT -- updates on these amazing cheese steak sandwiches. First -- and probably my favorite addition to the menu. White american cheese as an option. I'm not a fan of the whiz (it tends to be a bit too much) and while delicious, the previous options of mozzarella and provolone were missing something on the flavor palette for me. Now my sandwich is perfected -- I get the ooey gooey-ness I crave, with just a bit more of a punch of cheese flavor that doesn't overwhelm my steak. OMG. Yum. Also stupidly delicious? Their "roni" sandwich -- take your cheese-steak and add Salumi's pepperoni to it. Delicious! Calozzi's never EVER disappoints. Glad to see them expanding and doing so well in our sadly, cheese steak deprived city.

Nice meaty sandwich. Could use a bit more seasoning for taste but flavour can be added. Not sure if the order taker was trying to give off some philly attitude but it was there. All in all a good gastro experience.

Whiz wit! Two words invoking flat out the best sandwich - of any sort - I've had, ever! I'm speechless. Also covered with globs of errant Cheez Wiz, bits of sauteed onion, with rivulets of that wonderful succulent 'steak sandwich' jus running down my forearms to my elbows. Amazing! Simply amazing! Al, the owner, is a fan - and acolyte - of Jim's Steaks, considered by many to be the standard by which all 'Philly' Cheese Steaks are judged, in his home town Philadelphia. And though I've not had a Jim's 'whiz wit' in many years I'd say Al's version is at least as good, indeed even better! Good enough that I'll be trudging out the drive and hassling the downtown parking regularly to indulge in one of these heart stopping delights.

Calozzi's is the place to go for cheesesteaks period! It's by far the best I've had outside of Philly and the east coast, it's cheesy, greasy, meaty, messy, gut busting, and everything you would want and expect out of a cheesesteak sandwich. #FORGETABOUTIT, nothing else comes remotely close to Calozzi's in Seattle, it's not good, it's great, and a new staple of the downtown food scene! I'd recommend wearing a black shirt if you're going to be eating here, because you don't want to go back to the office with a big ass grease spot on your shirt!

It's amazing to think that there was a time when it was tough to find an acceptable cheesesteak in all of Seattle. With Calozzi's being right around the corner from Tat's we now have two within walking distance of one another. And one of those is by far the best cheesesteak I've had in Seattle. Calozzi's steak is pretty much perfect. What sets it apart is the steak is juicy and flavorful, with the right amount of wiz and onions mixed in to tie the whole thing together. Knocking the sandwich another level is the bread. I don't know if they bring it in from the east coast or not but it tastes like the bread back east. Perfect it is. Like Yoda I sound. One of the coolest things was how friendly the folks who run the place are. Steve, who cooked for us, introduced himself and his family and inquired about our food. I couldn't help but feel like he genuinely cares about making the best sandwiches around for his customers. With food that good made by people that awesome you can't help but want to come back again and again to support a quality business. Oh, and only $8 for a steak that big? Amazing.

Um. This place is legit. The sandwiches are so damn good! The neighborhood is a bit dodgy, but it's worth it. I know it's not orthodox, but add yellow mustard to your sandwich - Yum.

If you haven't been here yet, you simply don't know what you're misssing! This is one of those places that's so damn good, I re-write a follow up review here, just for the sake of further glorifying it :p. Tried this place several months back, and was floored, and have been coming back regularly since. You can expect to find the following here.. - A REAL DEAL, amazingly delicious cheesesteak. Wiz whits, done to perfection! - Whiz fries. Yes, you read that right! Bring a friend or two to share them with, and don't say I didn't warn ya! - Awesome staff - Fast service - LATE hours on weekends (So you can get your cheesesteak fix after the bar runs) For cheesy, greasy comfort food glory, Calozzi's is where it's at.

I'm a cheese steak noob. The only time I've ever tried one was roughly three years ago in Boston around 2 in the morning, while intoxicated. So I can't accurately judge my experience from that. So like what others have mentioned, I too was being teased seeing Calozzi's on the Hot on Yelp box for what seems like an eternity (I think its really just been a few weeks?) and finally just had to go check it out. Most of the time, I try to scope out the menu before visiting a restaurant and holy crap they offer cheez whiz!? I confess, I am a sucker for cheez whiz (don't judge me!). So obviously I ordered myself the cheese steak with wiz. The sandwich was pretty dang good. NOT amazing, but pretty good. I heard the bread is flown from Jersey but I didn't see what was special about it. This particular sandwich was on the messy side (thanks to the wiz) so I probably wouldn't order this after a night of clubbin. I think my sandwich would have tasted even better with grilled onions, which is an extra charge. It's great to know I have a place to run to when I get dragged to go out in Pioneer Square in the future. I'm a little tempted to check out their wiz fries sometime too.

I know authentic cheesesteak: I'm from New Jersey. I've lived in Seattle for 7 years, and Calozzi's is the best, hands down. Al and his staff pride themselves on fresh ingredients, custom order to your liking, and cleanliness. They deliver on all three. I see that some reviews mention wait time. Think made-to-order and freshness. If your sandwich were pre-made, quality and taste would suffer. Calozzi's is worth the wait!

Great Philly Cheesesteak, Whiz+Whit. Authentic feel and great guys working there. This would be awesome late-night grub. Also a good break from work at lunch time.

Finally checked out Calozzi's for lunch today and I would say it definitely lives up to the reviews it has received on Yelp. For those who do not know where Calozzi's is located, it is in Tat's former space. On my first visit, I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich with Provolone and fried onions. I'm happy to say it was delicious and filling for the great price of $8. I'm not sure of the specific size of the sandwich but I would say it's 10-12 inches. I loved how the bread was crusty yet soft at the same time and the meat so flavorful. I also loved how the fried onions were cooked into the meat as well. If you want additional toppings such as sweet or hot peppers, you can grab some on the counter on the side if you want. I'm not sure if this is a real deal Philly Cheesesteak but it sure was yummy and the owners were really nice too. Check them out if you're in the area.

I lived in South Philly for 20 years before moving to Seattle 2.5 years ago. Calozzi's cheesesteak is better than most of what Philly has to offer. It's right around Cosmi's level and almost at Tony Luke perfection. These guys understand what makes a cheesesteak good. The roll is great - soft, chewy, and flavorful - and my favorite part of the sandwich. My husband goes several times a week and says they fly them in from New Jersey. You can get a "Whiz wit" (Cheez Whiz and onions) or provolone with onions, which is my preference. All you hear in there is the chop chop of their metal blades on the grill as they create an unctuous meaty mess to slide into your bun. It's the right level of "wet," and the bun soaks it right up. If you ask, they might have marinara sauce they can put on it for you too. In Philly we call that a pizza steak, and it's total perfection to my taste, but it hasn't quite caught on here yet. Oh, I haven't had the meatball sandwich special, but husband says it's terrific. Get there early in the day while they still have them. If they don't, the sausage sandwich is pretty yummy too.

A question my bf and I had for years and years was "Where in Seattle can we get an authentic Philly cheesesteak?" Answer- Calozzis. The last place we liked in Beacon Hill was shot up on the block a couple years ago so here we are. In any case this place is way better! My order was taken by the sweetest kid I have ever seen in my life, the owners son. I had the Philly with Whiz and Whiz fries, talk about a lot of Whiz. Anyway, they use the right ingredients (especially the bread...yes!), portions are perfect and the service is friendly for sure. This place has great character and is in a pretty convenient location. I haven't had a problem with parking. I would consider this place over Tat's if you are wanting a cheeststeak, way more personable and a better experience!

FINALLY a "Real" Philly Cheese Steak on the West Coast. I was in heaven!!! The owners are from Jersey so they know how to make a "Proper" Philly, my quest is over! Now I must go in and try their Pie's, "real" mozzarella, they make their own hand tossed dough and when I was there the pie that came out of the oven made my mouth water.

Hog heaven here. I was super excited that Calozzi's was moving from Pioneer Square to my neck of the woods in the financial area. So excited, that I was calling Rainier Square's building management office on a weekly basis to find out when it would be open. Finally got to check out their debut on day 2: Still a great sandwich, packed with tons of flavor and meat. The chain joint that was in the space for a couple months was oh so sad. Didn't have to wait a huge amount of time when I went and my sandwich survived the four-block walk back to the office. My big fat gripe: no crinkle cut fries! Not sure if it's a ventilation thing or what - the cashier told me they didn't want to go home smelling like fries. Strange thing though that your fingers smell like a cheesesteak all day long, no matter how many times you wash them. We ended up hoofing it back to the office, picking up fries at our building's deli, and got our fix.

I'm from New York, so I have very high expectations for any east coast specialty. These dudes are SERIOUS. Gosh, just thinking about this is making me ridiculously hungry. The first time I came here I got BS-ing with the owner who is also an east coaster and an extremely friendly guy. When I unwrapped the huge sandwich and got a look at lunch I was immediately excited. Juicy, cheesy, chewy, melty perfection. I was literally stuffing my face with one hand and using my other hand to eat any delicious pieces that fell off of this overloaded sandwich. While some may complain that the bread gets soggy, I understand what they are talking about, but whoever chose their bread supplier chose the right one. The bread absorbs all juices, but still remains chewy and fantastic. I think i'm going to HAVE to go to their new location tomorrow. I'm in a Philly state of mind.

This is another place that I really wish I could give more stars to because the people working here are so nice and they clearly love what they do. I need to be unbiased and remember that Seattle and not Philly. I was a little disappointed in the sandwiches due to their dryness, lack of onions and lack of cheese. The rolls were definitely greasy and dripping just as they should be but I wished that the meat just hadn't been so dry. The rolls were surprisingly good considering we are in Seattle and they were as close to a chewy, tasty hoagie roll as you can probably get out here. The actual flavor of the meat was great and maybe with a different type of cheese, they would have been slightly better. (I had the mozza on mine.) My parents had them though and seemed pleasantly surprised and they are usually difficult to please when it comes to their cheesesteaks so maybe I was just being exceptionally picky today. $8 for the sandwich, considering their size, was a good deal. Maybe I'll give them a second chance...I know these guys have potential!

Found this on yelp when in town for a business trip and looking for a quick and tasty lunch. People were very friendly, and the sandwich was fine. Don't know that I'd go out of my way to go there again, but I can imagine if I worked close-by, I'd visit now and again.

Is the cheesesteak at Calozzi's the best that I've ever had? I don't know, but that's a fun discussion to have and it's certainly one of the best that I've ever had. I love this place and not just because it's close to where I work. I love this place because it knows what it is - a cheesesteak place and it does everything it can to the best cheesesteak place it can be. There are no vegan/vegetarian options here. No turkey or 'lighter' versions of these sandwiches. And, thank God, no gluten-free anything! If your dainty system can't handle that, keep moving down the road there's a crappy Subway. The rest of us know where the good stuff is! The service here is great, the prices reasonable and the portions huge! A note to cheesesteak newbies: ALWAYS get it wid onions, don't turn up your nose at the whiz because it's processed - it works well in these sandwiches and they're not exactly health food, and yes, idiots, they don't travel well - they have the authentic Italian rolls here which are light and airy and can only hold out so long with the onslaught of hot, juicy steak and molten cheese, plan on eating here or in your car. PS. Make sure you grab plenty of napkins, a fork and some of those cherry bomb peppers. Yum!

Calozzi's Cheesesteaks are what this corner of the USA needed. For years, I have heard of how incedible Philly Cheese Steaks are...in Philadelphia. Seen different shows on the FoodChannel and the "wars" of who is the best. I've never been to any of those, but for my tastes and my food I.Q., I'd say Calozzi's is a bona fide home run. Al Calozzi himself is hands down the nicest, most sincere, hardest working purveyor of a sandwich I have ever met. What he puts forth is a sandwich that is pretty incredible. I will say that I ate it seconds after it came from the grill, because I was starving, and it burned the inside roof of my mouth...my mistake. Let it cool off a few minutes. The bread is perfect...slightly chewy and crusty. The beef and the provolone was first rate. I ordered "wit" and it was superb. It's the kind of sandwich that you can actually get a craving for. Right On Al ! Seattle needed a sandwich worthy of the Philly Cheese Steak that has so much notoriety back east.

I thought I had stumbled upon a real gem here when I found Calozzi's. I liked everything about the place from the name, to the setting, to the simple menu, to the prompt and friendly service. Unfortunately I was really underwhelmed by the food. Got a steak with peppers and onions that looked great but was just void of flavor and too greasy. I'm cool with grease if it adds flavor but this was just lacking. In my opinion you shouldn't have to add salt or pepper to a steak to get flavor. I was also unimpressed by the frozen, krinkle cut fries served with it. Sorry, I hate to give two stars but I think it's necessary to balance out all the rave reviews of a place that I think is mediocre at best. In my opinion, Philly Boys Cheesesteak truck on 4th Ave S that in my opinion has a much more flavorful steak and fries made from real potatoes.

I'm not sure when it happened, but at some point I fell in love with cheesesteak sandwiches. Even mediocre ones will usually leave me grinning but very rarely am I left doing something I can only descrive as Grinoaning (the combination of grinning and groaning from over-feeding). Now, I want to be clear... I did not get cheez-whiz on this sandwich. I honestly do not care if that is "how it is supposed to be". Real mozzarella for me all day every day and enough carmelized onions to make kissing an impossibility. Every bite of this sandwich is an adventure: first chapter - the battle of figuring out how to unhinge your jaw to get fit it in (twss), second chapter - trying to chew enough to prevent choking on steak and cheese glory, and final chapter - not passing out on the drive home (which you're making while eating). It's a pretty phenomenal sandwich. I believe they put a whole cow in each one...

sure it's good and all but they don't have fries anymore. is this real life? ugh! i'm not a beef eater so i was hoping to score a delicious pile of cheese fries while my coworkers pigged out on cheese steaks. alas, i was thwarted by the calozzi gods who decided to simplify the menu and serve just cheese steaks. i can't blame them. if it's good, it's good. but for the love of all things sacred, bring back the fries!

Love, passion and Philly. That's what you're going to find in every made-to-order cheesesteak. Completely amazing. A real good down to earth hard working guy runs it with every ounce of his being and you can tell. I'm bringing everyone I know here at least one. In fact, it's going to be dinner tonight!

Calozzi is LEGIT! Their cheesesteaks with cheese wiz is to DIE for! The owner was almost sold out of cheesesteaks the first time I stopped by and gave us half off on a sandwich cause we couldn't order two. He's incredible nice and knows his craft! I believe they get their breads shipped in from the east coast which is why they sell out of breads and can't get more. Nevertheless, I love the quality and commitment to wonderful cheesesteaks!

Calozzi's does East Coast style pizza now and it is GREAT! Sorry Pizza Pros, I'm not going there anymore. Great job guys! My old review, pre-pizza: The best cheesesteak outside of Philly, bar none. Callozzi's cheesesteak would be great in Philly. I am from NJ, and I still have family near Philly. I moved here to Seattle from the East Coast about 2 years ago and I had yet to find a great cheesesteak place in Seatown until today. (I shoulda checked Yelp a little better, as now I see that Tat's around the corner may be good too.) Their menu is short, and since it was my first time there, I can't speak about everything on their menu (yet). But basically, if you're looking for an authentic Philly cheesesteak, you need to look no further. They have 3 choices of cheese: Whiz, Provo, and Mozz. I had mine with Provolone and onions and it was perfect. Light eaters: You're gonna have leftovers. Big eaters: You're gonna be full. On that note, one order of their fries could be split between two people. I couldn't finish my fries today. Everything is ordered a la carte, no combo meals offered yet, although i hope they will do that in the future. A cheesesteak, fries and coke is gonna cost you almost double of a cheap "Value Meal" at a fast-food joint, but it's worth it if you're craving the real thing. Also, they don't have any fountain drinks, so you have to buy your soda/iced-tea/water by the bottle if you want a drink. I spoke with the owners, they are true East Coasters from Philly. They were outgoing and friendly (in the way I'm used to, at least). They've only been in operation here in Pioneer Square for less than a year, so they're still doing work on the inside and outside of their place. In other words, the ambiance is not like some fancy, foo-foo joint you'd take a first date to, unless you just met her that night at one of the clubs around the corner, or she's from the East Coast and wants a great cheesesteak!

I'm no cheese steak expert. I have no idea what an "authentic" sandwich is. I went to Calozzi's because it's walking distance from my office and I had never been there. My interest was renewed by a recent Yelp Talk thread about cheese steaks and it seemed that folks were raving about all that is Calozzi's. I found both staff members to be friendly and helpful. The space itself seemed to hold a decent amount of tables for customers. It is drafty so bring a jacket! The decor is on the divey side of things. Comfy seats and a clean place pretty much takes care of my basic needs. I imagined a larger menu but was happy to see The Donnie. I liked that the food was really made to order - it takes as long as it takes. That being said, I fear coming during the lunch hour as it already took a long time when I was there at 2 o'clock. I liked my sandwich but didn't love it. For the price, I want to enjoy my food more. The meat was plentiful and bland. My bread got soggy quickly. I was super full and it was worth the price from that perspective. However, my taste buds were bored so I'm not sure how often I will go back.

  • Morgan N.

Meh. I wasn't impressed with my experience here. The cheesesteak tasted OK but there was a pile of already cooked meat sitting on the grill when I came in. That is what they made my sandwich out of, which was disappointing and kinda gross. Not surprisingly, my $13.00 sandwich and soda came with a case of the runs. Also, the manager (owner?) was yelling at the employees whole time I was there. Looking for a missing employee and ignored me completely, as if I didn't exist. Not worth the time, money or bowel agony.

Calozzi's is THE place to get a cheesesteak in Seattle. It has been decided. The guy taking my order was legit. Not sure if he was the owner/manager or what but considering he had a Philly type accent, I knew I was in for some good food. Ordered a philly 'wit' onions and Wiz. Plus I got the one with both mushrooms and peppers. I hadn't really eaten much all day and wanted some serious food. My sandwich was handed to me piping hot along with plenty of napkins. After one bite I was in heaven. Juicy, tender meat perfectly chopped and seasoned. Good amount of cheese and everything else. Add a little hot sauce and I was good. I ate the whole damn thing. This was a serious philly. For my sammy plus a bottle of water it was around $13 and well worth it. Overall amazing. Good, quick service. Place was super clean, prices are a bit spendy but worth every penny and you WILL leave full. Luckily this place is in the same building as my gym.

Calozzi's? Fughettaboutit... The authenticity of Calozzi's cheesesteak will make you feel as if you've escaped the gray Seattle and went on a trip to Philadelphia, where it's always sunny. The engaging owner, Al, will jump at any chance to discuss Philly with you if he detects the slightest hint that you have any kind of experience with his hometown. The secret to making an authentic cheesesteak is two things - first, cheese whiz must be used, check, and second, the server should understand what you mean if you order the cheesesteak "wit". It's a cozy spot with some darned good food. Check it out sometime. A cheesesteak will run you around $10.

Awesome philly's Ok Ok I will admit it was my first. Theirs gave my mouth the big O. I wish we had this place in oregon. But since then I have been to places in oregon and ordered a Philly... blahhhhh nothing is like Calozzi's so far.

Was around the area for the TEDxRainier conference and Calozzi's was always on my to-try list. Walked in and there were just a couple people there on a Saturday afternoon. Not a crowd as I would have expected for such a highly rated and popular place, which truly deserves its rating. The owner was extremely friendly... you don't find that everyday. Even if food's not that great, service usually makes up for it. But when both come together and intertwine, boy that's an experience to be had. He gave us drinks on him, which was really nice of him and talked to us about what TED was about. Maybe he'll be one of the speakers next year. Anyway, the cheesesteak was fantastic. I've had Tat's cheesesteak, and I would say they are both good. However, I like the location and service here, so Calozzi's has my vote.

sorry, calozzi's i gotta down grade you a bit since you've moved. we took the light rail downtown to the "new" location today for lunch. it's about a block from the university st station and super convenient for us that don't drive to work downtown. cheese steak was meh. the rolls they use are EXCELLENT but that's all it had going for it. the donnie (shroom steak) wit', wiz. steak is still too chopped up for me. i like to have the texture of slices of beef versus pulverized beef. wiz overwhelmed the flavors of the beef and mushrooms (canned, which is fine by me btw). i had a bite of my sister's sammich (same but with provolone instead of wiz) and you could taste the beef and shrooms much more vividly. they raised the prices by a buck on everything AND THERE'S NO FLIPPIN' CHEESE FRIES NO MORE. wtf, man! nope, prolly not trekkin' down here no more. might peep out the other location (georgetown, i think) if they have fries. otherwise, i'm just gonna walk over to tats.

Rolled in twice, each time increasing better. The Pepperoni Steak was insanely good. Got it wit whiz both times very happy with my decision. Eat these as frequently as possible, repeat eat these as frequently as possible. I'd like to imagine that a ghost turtle lays in wait for haters to cruise in and hate then strikes so watch out for that.

I wish it would allow us to give half stars because this place was a 3.5. The steak itself didn't have to much flavor in it. I got the mushroom philly and my wife got the pepper philly. They were both decent but again the beef didmt have enough seasoning on it.

I am a man who enjoys a good cheese steak. Back when I lived in Mukilteo, and Philly ya Belly was in an industrial complex, I was a regular of that fine meat-chopping establishment. Philadelphia Cheese Steak on 23rd and Union was a home away from home (until the untimely murder of the owner). Since then, I have had to go without. Sure, the 5 Point makes a decent sandwich, but not great. And I want great. Enter Calozzi's. How I learned about this joint - it's a small business that sponsors a little league team. I umpire little league, and following a game, left the park starving (having to see all these kids come up to bat with "Calozzi's Cheese Steak" written across their chest). So I inquired (true fact - sometimes parents don't want to kill us blues after a game), and learned that there was a location downtown - a scant 4 minute bike ride from my office! And thank the good Lord that I did. Bringing back a cheese steak witout, and a pepper steak wit, myself and a co-worker had the opportunity to dive in to the gooey mess (we both went with the Whiz). And gooey mess it is - there is no shortage of Whiz on these sandwiches. At some places, that would mean a bunch of cheese, and a small layer of meat. Not here - the mess was because the meat is falling out of the roll, it's packed in so tight! Very well seasoned, not too dry, and drenched in cheese - that makes me a very happy man. The one problem I have with these sandwiches - they have to end. It's like a cavalcade of flavor in my mouth, and it is fantastic. My waistline and scale are glad that there is an end, but my taste buds just want more. Suffice it to say, my office mates are all in agreement that this is a new regular joint for Friday lunches. You want a good cheese steak? Go to the 5 Point. You want an amazing cheese steak? Go to Calozzi's!

I don't get the hype. Got a steak with mushrooms, onion, and provolone. Mushrooms were canned. Steak was chopped up incredibly finely and didn't have much of a taste. I'll go to Tat's next time for a much better sandwich.

Hands Down a top 3 sandwich in Seattle no matter how you get yours done! My go to is generally the American Wit or Donnie American Wit! Al the owner is awesome! I love that the menu is only a few things but I am SUPER STOKED to find out Al is bringing the Roast Pork Special back, I love Calozzi's Cheesesteaks but the Roast Pork could quite possibly be the best sandwich in Seattle!! Always top notch service, top notch ingredients and you can tell Al really loves what he is doing!! I have no problem spending $10 on a sandwich that fills me up like they do at Calozzis!!

At 12:05 the place was a ghost town. 10 minutes later my belly was as full as the restaurant. Very good sandwich, friendly and prompt service (I just missed the rush that followed me in). I wish I knew about this place when I worked downtown. For what it's worth, Siri recommended this place.

The service is super quick and the food is very good! I ordered the pepper cheesesteak and my boyfriend ordered the mushroom one. I've never had real philly cheesesteaks, but this one tastes better than all of the other ones I've tried at other philly cheesesteak joints around Seattle. It is still messy with the cheese whiz, but definitely worth it. I believe this location also has roof-top seating. The only thing that sucked was they didn't have water cups...we had to purchase water bottles that were $2 each...way overpriced. Also I'm not sure if they had a bathroom or not, but be warned because the food gets messy.

When it comes to Cheese-steak sandwiches Calozzi's is the only place I have ever been that does it the right way the way Pat's does it in Philly. Pat's has been serving up cheese-steaks with Provolone and CheeseWiz for over 30 years and is the restaurant whose owners are credited with the sandwich's invention. Every other cheese steak restaurant is merely trying to copy the origional... most failing miserably. Callozzi's however not only succeeds, but goes an extra distance. Not to mention Callozi's own addition using Seattle's own Salumi's pepperoni in the "Pepperoni Cheese Steak". Needles to say they do it true using a meat slicer to slice fresh paper thin slices of Choice Sirloin steak(aka ny strip). For those who don't get the canned mushrooms, I merely say - the sandwich just wouldn't be right with fresh mushrooms (think higher water content leading to overcooked steak when cooked together as you are supposed to do with a real philly) So, if you want a "Steak" sandwich go to the Met, if you want a real cheese steak then this is the only place to get one here in Seattle. PS: The best is to do them up with all the fixings meaning Pepperoni, Onions, Peppers, mushrooms, provolone, and The CheeseWiz is an absolute must. Your taste buds will thanks you, trust me.

I've had the real deal in Philly and this places deserves mention among the best. Places like Jim's, Ishkibibble, and Dalessando's. These guys can definitely hang with them. The menu was reduced and they don't serve fries anymore, but so what. Just gives me a better excuse to buy two sandwiches instead of just one. Portion size is generous.

Hands down my favorite Philly Cheese Steak. Squeeze cheese fans rejoice which u can select or your traditional cheese slices. It's juicy, messy, tasty and filling. They got these pickled peppers you can get like ketchup at a McDonalds and they're so good with that cheese steak. Back in the day after clubbing it was tradition to go to China town but when me and my buddy Chris discovered this place it was on the side of Belltown Billiards and opened late til like 4 am. It was so much quicker, cheaper and satisfying then the Chinese food that we went there instead religiously "every friday and saturday night" and have been following them around to their different locations. If you're an old school squeeze cheese cheese steak lover like me you must at least try this place and prepare to get a little messy.

It sad to say I've lived in Seattle for 20 years and I never knew this place existed! Great little shop downtown for grabbing a quick sandwich during lunch break. There's not much sitting room if you need to sit down. There are 2 locations: downtown and Georgetown. I ordered the steak sandwich with mozzarella. I came at 12:30 on Monday and there was no line and the service was quick. Great sandwich! The all natural olive oil is a plus!

This restaurant will not give you a cup of water. I'm sorry, but any time I pay $10 for a meal, I should be able to get water without some extra charge. I do not wish to pay $2 for bottled water - I just want normal water. The cheese steak was not good enough to make up for this.

Took a Philly cheesesteak to go today back to my office about two blocks away. The sandwich was straight off the grill in a good two or three minutes. It was still hot when I got back to the office. I felt like I was in food heaven when I took the sandwich out of the bag and revealed it from its aluminum foil wrap. My oh my, so much beef! And your own selection of cheese topped with fried onions if you'd like made it even better. I'm usually a fast eater, but I took my time today and savored some juicy beef and melted mozzarella cheese in its bread casing. Calozzi's sandwiches will certainly fill you up. (On the other side, it was pretty darn greasy, but that doesn't stop me from giving it five stars. You definitely get the bang for your buck here!)

Al is the man! I'm visiting Seattle for a few days and ran into this cozy spot downtown. The guys were very friendly and enthusiastic that I felt like a regular. I just got the cheesesteak wiz wit (I try one at every shop to compare) and I can honestly say that this sandwich, by far, was the best I ever had. Look out Pat's and Geno's! Calozzi's is the cheesesteak king of the West!

Stopped in here before the Seahawks rally at Westlake. Must have just beat the lunch rush, because the place was empty. The service was good and I got my food fast. Everything after that was downhill. The meat had no flavor at all, and the sandwich was just a greasy mess. Had to use a bottle of Sriracha to make it halfway edible. When the person at the counter overheard me tell my Homie how the sandwich had way too much grease, he pointed to a sign above the grill that said "Don't sweat the grease, we use 100% oil" or something close to that. WTH??? Also they don't have tap water, only bottled water or soda at $2.00 a pop. What place doesn't have tap water???? This place could be okay if the meat had some flavor, and they reduced that damn grease. Most likely won't return.

This place was delicious. I ordered the Donnie which was a steak sandwich with mushrooms. I added American cheese for the win!! This greasy spoon sandwich so had me licking my fingers. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because my boyfriend pepper steak sandwich want quite as good as mine. This place is not healthy but I will return for sure.....

On our way to the Sounders game and we had a hankering for some cheesesteaks. We arrived early and sat outside waiting for Calozzi's to open. The fella behind the counter saw us waiting and offered to open early, making our rumbling stomachs very happy. I got the wit wiz my fiancé got hers with provolone. This sandwiches come loaded with onions, meat and cheese. Please don't compare Calozzi's sandwiches to Philadelphia's cheesesteaks. I go to Philly all the time and my gripe has always been that Pats and Genos don't put enough meat and cheese on the sammiches. They feel a little weak and skimpy. You won't have that problem at Calozzi's. They put a more then generous portion of meat and cheese on their sandwiches. I had to knife and fork it some of the time. The best part, my girl couldn't finish all of hers so I got some of the provolone sandwhich too. Folks walking up and down the street kept remarking how good our sandwiches smelled. I almost went back for another but was too full. So I'm looking forward to our next visit. The staff was polite and got my kudos for going the extra mile and opening early. I miss customer service like that. Nice to see it's still out there.

My friend from out of town and I were staying nearby at the Red Lion and he and I had wanted to try Calozzis for some time as I remember back when this location was on Occidental Ave instead but had never gotten around to trying it. The owner is incredibly friendly; and the customer service was very good; we were the only people in there as we came at an off dinner hour; but the food came quick and was absolutely amazing; portions were very good for the price and this place you can tell is the real deal. Great experience overall; would highly recommend for anyone hungry nearby with 9 - 10 bucks to spend on a filling/delicious cheesesteak.

I just tried my first Seattle cheesesteak at Calozzi's and was not particularly impressed. The meat was good and plentiful, they ofter several cheese options that were good, but I felt the bread could be improved. It was very soft and totally soggy in no time. I'd prefer the crust to be a bit crisp to contrast (and contain) the totally mushy inner-bread that is soaked cheesy meaty goodness. The men behind the counter were kind and happily discussed the pros and cons (well, really it is pros and pros) of each cheese.

Wow a lot of meat! Super oily don't worry though it is olive oil (their sign says)... I would have preferred a little less oil. It was dripping down my arms, I wish there was more cheese, next time I will get the melted cheese. The staff there is super friendly and I felt welcomed. I will be back again, just will ask them to use a little less oil! They don't have very much seating, but the cashier told me I could also take my sandwich to the upstairs patio.

Philadelphia is not really on my list of places to travel to in my future .... So I figured I'd try Calozzi's for an authentic Philly cheesesteak or as close to authentic here in the NW! I obviously got cheese wiz on my cheesesteak "the Donnie" mushroom steak, after watching all those food network travel shows. The bread was nice and soft and held my heaping cheesesteak together. It was so huge I only ate a half, which is cut for you as I'm sure holding that thing in one piece would break your arm. The service was fast and friendly. My cheesesteak maker was awesome and informative when I asked him about catering for work in which he advised to contact the downtown store since they are closer to my work and they have more man power to make the amount needed to feed all the hungry people in my department. I can't wait to come back and bring my boyfriend so he can try their cheesesteaks too! Until then, I will spread the word of Calozzi's to all cheesesteak lovers I know.

Authentic Cheesesteak? Yes Please! Having come to Seattle for a computer class in downtown, we were granted a 75 minute lunch (for those now trying to do math, that was an hour and 15 minutes). I wandered around in the rain (Rain? In Seattle? What a surprise), and stumbled onto Calozzi's. It was a little before the lunch rush so I thought I would give them a try. Cheesesteaks are a guilty pleasure, I know, and since I was solo for lunch, I figured I may as well! Their menu is simple and straight to the point. You order your specific sandwich, specify the cheese and let them know if it will be "Wit" Onions, or "Witout"! That's it! simple and elegant. I enjoyed the sandwich immensely, and the experience was as close to a true Philly Cheesesteak as I've here in the NW. I am sure this place is very popular based on the amount of to go bags they were setting up for the lunch rush and the other help was arriving to cover the rush! If you are downtown give them a try! You won't be disappointed!

OVER RATED! this place is a dive, and the food is not authentic philly cheese steak. It was ground beef with a hot pepper and some cheddar on it. Standard greasy sports food before a baseball game. Inside the place was freezing, I had to leave my jacket on and it was spring. The place itself is badly in need of a renovation with its floor boards loose, and very dated tables and chairs. Typical of Pioneer Square. Not going back here unless every other place is closed.

FINALLY, a real cheesesteak out here in Seattle! Being from the eastcoast, this place brings me back to the days of living in south jersey.

I haven't had a good cheesesteak in many years. Most places in NYC get these really thick slices of beef and grill them up. Maybe it's old roast beef or something. Either way, it's kind of chunky. A good cheesesteak needs its meat to be finely diced up and Calozzi's delivered. I had mushroom steak with American cheese, not the biggest fan of cheesewhiz. It was awesome. It perfectly satisfied all my cheesesteak desires and they definitely served up a sizable portion too. Not really much else to say about this place except that it's pretty damn awesome. While it has limited seating indoors (seems like a lot of wasted space in the kitchen) there are seats outside too. When I was there, I was able to sit outside with excellent weather to keep my company. Sriracha sauce? They have it too! BOSS.

Expensive, soggy, and bland cheesesteak. The bread was not robust enough to withstand the grease. The meat was VERY greasy, even for a cheesesteak, with very little seasoning. Portions were very large--too much for me. I'd have appreciated a smaller one that tasted better. Place was packed at lunchtime, and the service was fast and polite. My food was just not tasty. I won't be back.

  • Sara Q.

not that great. bread is nice and soft but the seasoning to the meat has gone both was for me on two separate occasions. super salty or super bland. i'm pretty disappointed due to all the hype around this place. i've also been to the one in georgetown too.. ehhhh. will keep searching for the best cheesesteak in seattle, won't be back.

  • Liz M.

MEAT! Man, that's a lot of meat. Delicious, tasty, messy meat. I have no idea what a true cheesesteak is supposed to be like, nor do I really care. Liz's criteria for a true cheesesteak are 1) is it tasty? 2) is it filling? 3) is it TASTY? And at Calozzi's the answer is a resounding YES. It doesn't hurt that the guys are incredibly friendly and practically seem to whistle while they work. It does hurt a little that the music is so loud I can't hear myself think, but that's why you take your sandwich to go.

Me: Hi, could I please have one philly cheesesteak? ...How big are they? Cashier: Sure, they're one foot long. Me: Oh...nothing smaller? can't you like cut it in half or something? Cashier: ...I guess I can cut it in half & charge 5- Me: YES. that'll be great. thank you. Cashier: Would you like anything else? Me: Um. do you have like. a salad or something? Cashier: PFF. *laughs* no. there is none of that here. Me: okay. can I just have water? lots of it please? thanks. ---- *server as he hands me my sandwich* Careful... Lillian Lin: What? Server: It's really greasy.. the oil's dripping all over your arm right now. Even though I only had half of the regular order, & was not full, I felt disgustingly happy & my stomach hurt. i don't think my body can handle this again. if anything. i'll bring a box of lettuce to Calozzi's.

If I could eat one thing the rest of my life without any kind of health consequence, it would be the Roni with Whiz from this place. Seriously, it's good. I try to come back about 1-2 times a month. This is a no-nonsense type of place with about 5 things on the menu, but as far as authenticity and taste, it's there and then some.

I've had many cheesesteaks across the country. Never in Philly but I have to say this is the best I've ever had. They only offer a few options but you will never be disappointed

I've seen hospitals that were dirtier than this place. And despite the ultra clean decor they make some wonderfully messy cheese steaks. Not on par with a true great in-Philly cheese steak but even a really good cheese steak beats a great most anything else.

    (5)
  • Tony T.

I had the "Roni" steak sandwich, which took about 5 mins. There wasn't a lot of people here around 4pm, so I didn't have to wait that long. The cook seem cool, and the place only has a few tables and bar table...the cook was actually the owner of this resto and told me his story. I always like to hear how entrepreneurs started out. My sandwich came with provolone cheese and fried onions (optional). I wouldn't mind coming back next time, so it's a definite try for all. It's somewhat overpriced though...

My hubby and I came here today and ordered a Philly with whiz and whiz fries. We decided to share since everyone had said their portions were huge. The hubby and I have big appetites and am sure happy that we did share because damn are the sandwiches big and the fries plentiful. If you're a cheese fanatic like me the whiz fries are the way to go. Keep in mind that they put a lot of cheese on them so by the time you get to the bottom of the bag every little French fry has a thick coat of cheese (which can be overwhelming). All in all a great experience however I won't be back soon because I want to live to see 30 (and not die of a heart attack) but will be back when I feel like I deserve a yummy greasy treat!

Once again Jeff and I decided to take time to travel to the city of Seattle to visit Calozzi's. Just like every other time we have come out to enjoy the best cheesesteak we have ever had in our lives, Al greeted us at the door with a fantastic smile. What a great guy! We both ordered a extra provolone extra meat cheesesteak. It was made perfect to our order, simple but delicious as always. Big thanks to Al for bringing these perfectly amazing sandwiches to our area. It's very rare to find such perfection in food. Yum!

Had the 'Roni' with provolone. Pros Good flavor with the pepperoni mixed in with steak. Fresh bun. Like the olive oil. Cons Asked for grilled onions and didn't get any. Peppers not available. Sandwich was 12 bucks w tax. That's a little high. No chicken sandwich option. No punch card program. No containers to take sauces to go.

I remember wondering if I would be waiting for service when I entered, cause the place looked so empty (but very clean). Whoa boy, was I wrong. 2 people promptly, (if not suddenly) popped up out of nowhere-quite literally. The owner himself was very friendly and patient, despite my awkward & indecisive-ness The actual sub? Well lemme just say that I'm not a big beef eater. No, I'm not a vegetarian, I just don't like/eat beef in general. To the point where I don't order burgers in restaurants anymore....but I ate my ENTIRE sandwich here *burps* The bread was fresh, the onions cooked well (thank God) and the mushrooms were the perfect compliment. The meat itself seemed very high grade, and cooked well, but not tough or dry. Not chewy either. Delicious. The olive oil gave the meat a strong appetizing smell that permeates the store when cooking. And calms my inner "health" freak. Friendly service: 5* Getty me to actually eat beef, then finish it: 5* Overall experience: 4.9* Great place. Don't pass up If you seriously want something healthy, maybe you should get a salad or something somewhere else. But then again, does that even need to be said?? Answer: only if you're stupid ;)

It took five years, but I've finally found it - the best cheesesteak in Seattle. One a Philly transplant will legitimately appreciate. I'd basically given up. There were places here that were "good enough", I've been rating Seattle cheesesteak places on a "how good are they....for Seattle" scale, not on an absolute scale. Calozzi's breaks the trend. It's legitimately that good. The rolls are fantastic. A true Philly cheesesteak is supposed to have a crusty Italian roll - which is something curiously difficult to find in Seattle, I've tried to buy them myself to no avail. Maybe they import them from Philly. Either way, they are very good. They cradle the meat, cheese, and onions properly. Speaking of, the meat is good - no silly, unnecessary seasonings, just pure steak goodness. Its finely chopped - more along the style of Jim's, as opposed to the bigger chunks like Pat's or Geno's. Cooked properly, and drenched in two layers of cheese - both along the roll, and on top of the meat. A nice touch. Also, the onions are properly cooked, along with the meat. I chatted with the owner a little, he seemed like a true Philly guy - the only type who should be running a cheesesteak place. If you're looking for a cheesesteak in Seattle, don't look anywhere else - none of them compare. Calozzi's is the best in the city, possibly on the entire west coast.

I don't understand the rave reviews. Maybe I went on an off day. My sandwich was mediocre. Flavorless beef not oozing grease but WATER. I had 4 oz of water on the table when all was said and done with soggy bread. It could have used another slice of cheese (and this isn't coming from a cheese addict) and some S&P. Additionally my preferences would be that they give you the option of lettuce, tomato, mayo, and maybe some hot peps on the sandwich and half sizes... but hey, they aren't here to cater to my preferences. Such a sad day.

The more I think about it, the more I really like this place. Came in for a late lunch about 2ish, so I didn't have to wait through any lunch crowds. I asked the guy at the register a couple questions and he was really helpful in aiding me with my selection. Normally when i go to a cheese steak shop, I get whatever "pizza steak" they've got going. Never really had a standard steak. The wait for the food was short being the only person and while I waited, noticed the guy at the register getting chummy with some "regulars." He was super upbeat the entire time I was there. Loved the energy. Easily my favorite part. I normally hate giving my name for food orders because most places treat it as nothing. I know it was mainly because of the lack of customers at that time but there was a warmer feel to it here The steak itself was really good. crazy amount of meat to where, when I was finished with the sandwich, I had about 2 handfuls of meat that fell out. I'm always looking for places to take family members when they come and visit. This place is a definite stop from now on. Pros: Awesome customer service. Great steak sandwich. Restaurant was crazy clean. Con: About 9 and change for just the sandwich (I'd gladly pay this any day for the experience I got, though)

Calozzi's obviously doesn't need my 5-star review, but they sure as hell EARNED it. Got the Mikey from the secret menu which means every cheese is on the sandwich and boy was it BOMB. The steak was nice and juicy without being dry or hard to chew like other spots. And the bread was drowning from all the meat, mushrooms, and onions. I'll be back!

  • Koa N.

If you're going because of the many pictures posted on this yelp page, you won't be disappointed. The sandwiches were HUGE, tasty, and full of all the greasy, meaty, cheesy goodness that you see online. It was pretty crowded and there is fairly limited seating, but not a big deal. The inside of the restaurant is uncomfortably warm, but we were lucky enough to snag a table outside to enjoy the cool breeze of the day. Check it out if you're in the area!

What has to be the best cheese steak sandwhich I have ever eaten. While we ate the parents of the young man making our food came in and he made his parents their first ever cheesesteak. He was smiles and his parents very proud. As for the food eat here often.

Hands down the best Philly in Seattle. The new location is in the business district in downtown which is a fantastic change from their Pioneer Square origins. In my opinion, giving this place a bad review for their food being greasy is like giving Starbucks a bad review for their drinks having caffeine. I mean it's a philly cheese steak place... are you walking in to this place expecting to get a heart healthy, weight conscious meal??

    (5)
  • Larena H.

Hands down, Calozzi's has the best cheesesteaks in town! I have yet to come here and go "Eh, it was pretty ... alright." NO. That does NOT happen. I've been to all of their locations - first their location in Pioneer Square, then when they moved near the convention center, and now their Georgetown location - and I have never been disappointed! The loud clanging to mince the cheesesteaks - it just makes me smile. I can't hear diddly squat over it, but that's perfectly okay. In fact, it's probably better that way since it probably drowns out the "Mr. Grinch" theme song to match that mischievous little grin I get on my face. Order it "wit" onions. Unless you're deathly allergic. In which case, I'm SO SORRY! Even at that, do you have your epipen with you? It just might be worth it. Maybe. Your call, dude :P Also, I should address some of the complaints I've seen in some of the reviews. 1) If you want more cheese, ask. There is no extra charge for extra cheese. I'm having a hard time remembering the last restaurant that didn't charge me for extra cheese .. oh wait, Altaye. That's the kind of awesome service you get with small restaurants like this! 2) If you want a half a sandwich, order it even if you don't see it on the menu. Tada! Food/calorie guilt problem solved. 3) If you're upset they're out of Salumi's pepperoni for their Roni sandwich, don't be mad at Calozzi's. That's Salumi's fault (though really, don't fault them for being SO DANG AWESOME!). Salumi's has to be very strict about dividing up their supply to support the local businesses, and they put limits on what businesses can order. It's the same reason Pagliacci Pizza is seemingly always out of Rosmarino Salami. I know, it makes me a sad panda too, but Calozzi's other sandwiches are awesome too! Above all of that, Al Calozzi is an incredibly affable and business savvy owner. He makes everyone feel incredibly welcome! He's also a very generous man. He kindly donated some gift certificates for a charity event I hosted, and it was greatly appreciated (and unexpected!) To give this place anything short of 5 stars says you aren't truly familiar with all they have to offer. You can pretty much disregard all the non-5-star reviews :P

Owner was there when I came in- super chill guy. He started selling out of a Cart and now has a storefront. The food is fantastic but the owners passion and personality won my loyalty. If you are in the market for a super yummy and authentic Philly cheesesteak: Go here!

It's no Jim's Steak, but beats Pat's and Geno's. I felt respected by the owner and staff... that feels off. Look down on me or something, I came for the the Philly; left feeling warm and fuzzy, dang. 1 star off for not being a late night spot. Late night gluttony is why this hoagie reigns supreme.

I love this place a lot. I try and go here whenever I'm in Seattle on business. The first time I went here the owner was actually working and was a really awesome guy from Philly who just wanted to make some amazing classic cheesesteaks. Every time I eat here the food is amazing, the service is good, and the place is nice and clean. This isn't some quick service fast food joint though so expect to wait for your food since it is made fresh right there in front of you. Everyone I take here leaves just as happy as myself. Thank you!

  • Chris W.

Now, my experience with "true Philly" cheesesteaks is limited to Jim's and Geno's, so I'll limit my review to my experience to the outside limits of steakery. Calozzi's has great food, great service, and Al runs a pretty tight ship. They're delicious wit wiz, however when we're looking for something "lighter" than the full meal, they're always happy to split our order and give us two different sets of options (no onions, provolone on half). I've gone here at all different hours, and they've always been friendly (no matter the drunks in the area pre-move to Rainier Sq), the food has always been high quality, definitely not always the case with sandwich shops. I'm always glad to come back for the good food and affable greetings, whenever the wiz-lust strikes me.

My boyfriend and I randomly wandered in here while on vacation last week, and it was the best decision ever. The place was empty, apart from one ecstatic customer who told us that he's been following the company for years and he offered up a few suggestions of what to get. I got the sandwich with red peppers and white american cheese and it was SO GOOD that I practically ate myself sick. My boyfriend got the classic cheesesteak and I've never seen him more happy. The sandwiches are huge, so if you aren't starving, I'd suggest sharing one. This place is fantastic!

A great Philly cheesesteak right here in Seattle. This location is smaller than the Occidental one was, but it's at a more convenient spot for me. It's up there with Pat's and Jim's. Get it wit whiz and onions. That's the way to do it. The bread is perfect - soft but strong enough to stay together despite the juices and melted cheese. For $9, you get a lot of sandwich. These suckers are big, so bring an appetite.

SHIZ, I can't believe this place closed down. they had legit philly cheesteaks. sad face.

  • Jeremy P.

The good: This is a very authentic cheesesteak. The bread is good, the portions are good, they have cheese whiz, etc. If you want a real cheesesteak, this is the place to go. I also like the feel of the place. It's somewhat of a dive, but in an endearing way. The music posters all over the walls are fun. HOWEVER, Calozzi's is not the best place to go for a top-to-bottom quality dining experience. Though they have authentic cheesesteaks, they are greasier than they need to be. Worse yet, the fries are not very good. Putting cheese whiz on them helps a little, but there's really no way around it... They need better fries. And even worse, they don't have some things that most restaurants have, like free water. Had to pay $2 for a bottle of water, just so I could have something to wash it down with. The whole meal cost $16 for a sandwich, cheese fries, and a water, which is slightly unreasonable for the quality of food and the experience you get. I do like the informality of the place. It's a good place for a quick bite if you're in the neighborhood, but it's definitely not a destination.

Fantastic. Us three girls with an appetite during a fun night in Pioneer Square decided on this place per Yelp reviews. I was a little suspicious upon walking in. There were some flies, it was muggy, and only one family was dining in. We shared 1 sandwich with provolone cheese and fries. It was plenty of food. The sandwiches are huge! The fries come in a brown paper bag - a lunch/sandwich brown paper bag! Yeah, that's a lot of fries! Awesome. The sandwich was great. The beef was tasty, not too salty, the cheese was balanced, and the bread was soft and perfect! There's plenty of seating...though the chairs are all sticky for some reason. Maybe it's just a Seattle summer thing..... I'm very happy to have eaten at this place! I will definitely be back if I'm in Pioneer Square!

Ok - so don't judge me, but I never had a cheesesteak before. I'm so glad these guys popped my cheesesteak cherry! I was at the bank across the street and decided to make for the closest food source since I hadn't eaten all day. They were busy (lunch time) and the seating was full. Despite the rush, the guy at the counter was very friendly and seemed genuinely interested in customer service. Since I was so unfamiliar I got the plainest option - steak with whiz but no onions. I waited only a few mins and grabbed my sandwich to go. I think I paid $9, the sandwich was GIANT. Even starving I only finished half of it. The only thing I'd note is I wish the cheese and add options/menu were a little more clearly displayed, I had to look around and ask. The bread was delicious and the meat was so juicy a plus is a only use olive oil, def a must try if you're ever downtown.

Tasty cheese steaks with good service and clean tables. I ordered the pepper steak with onions and wiz and it was very good. The staff are very friendly. While I waited for my food, tables were disinfected between guests.

Friendly staff and owner. The sandwich came out fast and was pretty good. Maybe a little pricey for the size but not too bad. My biggest issue with this place is that it was hot outside and even hotter inside so I ask for a cup for some ice water but he said he didn't have any cups...what? Obviously I can't be sure but it seemed like a ploy to make people purchase bottled water.

  • Oanh N.

Holy shit this was hands down THE BEST Philly cheesesteak I have ever had in my life. It was... perfect. The bread, the cheese, and the steak was perfectly seasoned. My god I can't stop thinking about this sandwich. I stumbled upon this place after being obliterated from some clubbing. My boyfriend and I inhaled our own sandwiches and ordered another one to go. Even waking up in the morning and having it heated up by the microwave it was still so damn good. This place is must when visiting Seattle. I wish they can just mail one to me. I would be the happiest girl in the world!

Restaurant is nothing like Philadelphia experience. Buns are too small, 4 people after 1pm took 15 minute to get the good out. Overall good taste, but nothing close to philly experience.

  • Who W.

I want to like these, but, to be honest, we didn't find them to be that good (and I'm from philly). Maybe it is a lack of flavor in the meat or maybe it isn't enough cheese, but neithermy other or I finished ours. Not bad, just not that great and fairly expensive. ..

  • Leslie B.

This place is tasty! If your order is to-go, grab a fork and a handful of napkins, because there's no way you're going to eat this with your hands. The menu is pretty basic -- there are five or six sandwiches to choose from and the only options are cheese option and with or without onions, so there's not a whole lot of room to create a custom sandwich here. The sandwich was huge, but the bread wasn't toasted so it got very soggy -- could be because I got the Cheez Whiz though. The service was great -- both people I interacted with were very friendly, and I was thanked by name when my sandwich was ready. It was a little slow, but my sandwich wasn't made until I ordered it, so it's worth the wait for fresh food! It was a little on the expensive side so I won't be a "regular" but I'll definitely be back! October 2013 update: I'm a regular.

You definitely can't say that this sandwich doesn't have enough meat! But it has so much meat that the grease totally soaked through the bread making it a soppy mess to eat. The meat cheese ratio was also severely off. The service is friendly and the sandwich was tasty enough but the amount of grease might turn me off from coming here again.

Calozzi's is the place to be for some good tasting cheese steak sandwiches. I've tried a few of the other steak sandwiches in the past and they were all good. But my goto sandwich has always been the cheese steak (whiz wit). I've been eating them since it was in belltown and moved to pioneer square and now to present location. They do have the risk of selling out for the day so going a bit before advertised closing is recommended. In downtown so it should go without saying that it is street parking.

Since I am not from the East Coast, I can't speak for the authenticity; but I can tell you their cheese steak is very very VERY yummy. I have had The Donnie with Provolone & Pepperoni Steak with American & Pepper Steak with American. They were all delicious. My goal is to nail every single one of them while I try to watch my girly figure. Note: Don't put the sandwich in the purse if you are taking it to go.

My wife and I came here for lunch on a rainy Saturday morning. The place smelled great and everyone was really friendly. The owner took our order and we had our food in no time. We both got the Donnie and it was delicious. Great food at a good price; I recommend this place to anyone looking for a good cheesesteak and good service.

I eat Philly cheesesteak like once a year (if even) so Calozzi's filling my annual quota! And I was rather pleased with the cheesesteak here (although it could have used a little more flavoring/salt). First off for around $8 or so you get like this gigantic footlong of cheesesteak. It's loaded with the meat, onions (if you wish), and the cheese of your choice (American, Provolone, Mozzarella, and CHEESE WHIZ). Sure, everything's super greasy, but that's what makes it so delicious. I actually didn't think it was that salty, so I just sprinkled on some salt and it made it taste really good. Also the owners (?) seem super chill and hilarious. Down to earth. We should be friends. They accept credit card, whoohoo!

These Philly cheesesteaks are delicious! and was a quick service. Though they don't have much to choose from on their menu, they do have great options. The owner was very friendly and took our picture! not too sure why though? He didn't say. Overall fabulous place to grab a bite.

I'm a big fan of Phillies, so I was very excited to try Calozzi's. I was deeply disappointed. The meat was the main problem, it was dry and grainy. They obviously use a cheap cut, which is fine if prepared right. They need to use the right cut (ribeye) or put more care into keeping the cheap cut juicy. The bread was ok. The portion was large but not enjoyable enough to finish. They charge $9 for a poor sandwich.

I love Calozzi's, despite the divey atmosphere. Gimme a pepper steak sandwhich filled with a fistful of meat and some li'l mama's peppers and some American cheese and dang, you won't even have to listen to me talk I'll be so busy eating. Once or twice my portions have been kinda smaller than I typically get when I come here, but everyone is allowed their off days. I don't even care that I have to buy water, or that fries are charged separately. I don't have room for fries anyway, I have a pound of philly cheesesteak to consume. You better believe it.

This place has good cheesesteaks and terrible customer service. My buddy and I put our orders in at approximately 12:05pm on a Thursday afternoon, just slightly ahead of the lunch rush. There is quite a large crowd at lunchtime so it's worth getting there early. My friend's sandwich came out at 12:15pm - not a bad wait. About five minutes later, I thought I'd check in on my order since I had ordered before my friend. The cashier's response seemed to indicate that he thought I had already picked up my sandwich and was trying to pull a fast one on them to get a second. Right, because I clearly look like the type of guy who could put away two cheesesteaks. At this point it looked as though I might not get my sandwich. Finally, after politely asking two more times for them to find my order, they decided that they must have given my sandwich to the wrong Kevin. Awesome, now we're getting somewhere. Not so. After agreeing to remake my sandwich, they put my order in in the back of the line, behind what looked to be at least 15 people. I waited and waited and waited and waited and waited. Finally, at 12:50pm my sandwich was complete. Again, pretty good cheesesteak, but at what cost?

Was in town for a conference and stopped by Calozzi's for dinner tonight. WOW that is an amazing cheese steak! Had the Roni and absolutely loved it. Met the owner, very cool guy, some seriously amazing food here!!!! Very filling, awesome bread, white cheese, YUM.

Damn this place was good. My buddy that I was visiting in Seattle took me here and I really wasn't expecting to eat cheese steaks in Seattle but it was well worth it! Wiz wit is where it's at, the fries were crunchy and nicely seasoned as well! If you're in the area why not stop by for a hot cheese steak to warm you up. I love how they finely chop up the meat, just makes it that much better. Go here!

Cheesteak with cheeze whiz, omg yes!!!! I am sorry if you think cheeze whiz is gross, but it's the only way to eat a cheesesteak and not many places in Seattle get that! Came here shortly before last call after a long time of dancing, and nothing hit the spot better. It's right around the corner from LSC and Trinity, you can't miss it. The sandwiches are really big and dripping in cheese. They also have a full station of peppers and sauces for you to pile on to your sandwich, but honestly, its good on it's own. And remember, do the philly justice and get the cheese whiz

If you had just completed an interview down by the stadiums and then proceeded to get a li'l day drunk and THEN needed something to absorb all of that stress drinking, where would you go? Because I would (and did!) go to Calozzi's. I've been eyeing this joint for seriously over a year but somehow never managed to get down there. I know, I'm a failure. I have no excuse. Besides being born a failure, so maybe blame that one on my mom - I'm sure she'd love to hear it. But I digress. These giant, greasy meat torpedoes are bangin'. The whiz wit was this unbelievably messy steaky leviathan that I definitely could not finish. I had half and could feel the sandwich pushing at my stomach walls, jostling for space in that booze jacuzzi. 100% delicious and 100% worth the calories. And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention how flippin' nice Al was. It's rare that I carry out a more than three minute conversation with anyone I don't know, because that's how I roll, but he was a legitimately friendly person. I felt right at - not quite home, because my parents aren't from the east coast and never made cheesesteaks - but definitely right at somewhere familiar. I'm thinking from now on Calozzi's is going to be my pre-drink buffer for Bush Garden karaoke, because if there's one dance move that goes over great on stage it's the belly massage. Mmmmm, cheesesteaks.

Large, greasy, authentic cheesesteak. Pizza is supposed to be great, but I haven't gotten to that yet. Mortals simply cannot finish a cheesesteak alone. I would go here more often, but Tat's a bit better and only half a block away. Update: I just called them to check on their pizza by the slice and they told me they no longer sell pizza...cheesesteaks only! FYI

My boyfriend and I went here because we're on a mission to find the best Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich on the West Coast. We're currently residing in Portland but originally from Los Angeles. HAVE TO SAY, BY FAR... the BEST cheesesteak we have tried. Went here on a Thursday... decided we're going to try this place out and then go around the corner to Tat's. We tried this place first. We split a sandwich..... and got a GIANT bag of fries... WOAH... thank you. then decided to walk around a bit and try Tat's. NOW PLEASE take my word for this... if you're torn up about which to try... I say GO TO Calozzi's for the Cheesesteak... go to Tat's for the Tat'strami. Tat's Cheesesteak has absolutely NO FLAVOR. but their Tats'trami is amazing. Anyways... met the owner, originally from Philly! Told us that he started making Cheesesteaks at the age of 10 at his grandpa's restaurant back home. His grandpa put up a milk cart, set him up on it and he'd just go at it. Wonderful guy, wonderful food. We'll definitely be back if we're ever in the area.. and next time I'm getting my own footlong!! He's also opening up a new location for all your Seattlers. Luckyyy you!!

Who would have ever thought my first "true philly cheese steak" would be in Seattle Washington??? Made by a true philledelphian!! AND IT WAS THE BEST STEAK SUB I'VE EVER HAD!!!! Yes, this place you can walk by a million times and never notice it or maybe you see the homeless people 1 block up on seattles true "skid row" but don't let that deter you this place is amazing!!!!! The owners are wonderful such a pleasure to talk to they make you feel like family. If you need any suggestions on what sites to see they will provide the best assistance. The whiz fries are a great compliment to the amazing sandwich. Now I have no desire to go to Philly I simply want to go back and visit my buddies in Seattle again HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

****THE MICHAEL JORDAN OF THE PHILLY CHEESESTEAKS**** If you do not believe me go for yourself and get one now. This is a family owned business with their last name which I respect. Everybody here including the owner Al, makes you feel instantly comfortable and treat you like family by welcoming you to hang out regardless if you want to buy something even if it is late at night when you are coming out of the clubs. They have plenty of seating inside and outside. They are also expanding so this location will have plenty of space to throw a party soon...hoping they will have alcohol too. *crosses fingers* I got myself two Philly Cheese Steak with Provolone because I don't really care for the cheese wiz but dam...these sandwiches are huge and the bread is perfect for the thin steak to soak up the juices but crunchy enough to give you texture in every bite. The meat was grilled to perfection with so much meat and the meat is so tender but juicy so it will get messy all over your hands & face. I finish both of them myself because these sandwiches are that GOOD! They also have pizzas and other sandwiches like meatballs but I always go for the Philly Cheese Steaks. The owners invited me back later that night for some pizzas but next time I will try some of their pizzas. Just like the quote on the Calozzi's tee shirt..."Michael Jordan of Philly Cheesesteaks" Pro TIP: On Thu-Sat, they closed at 4 am, so forget the hotdog venders and lousy chinese food and get a Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich. Also check out some specials on their Facebook Page.

Nearly 4 years ago, I decided to become a pesca-tarian (non-moral reasons). I still have a soft spot for certain meat enthusiastic cuisine, and REAL Philly Cheese steaks is at the top of that list. In Seattle, this is very difficult to satisfy. I had grown very tired, very quickly, of hearing about Tat's. Even before my dietary choices changed, I had never really understood why people enjoyed Tat's. I tried it a few times, each time amazed at how boringly complied the grease balls were. I was thrilled to see another steak place had arrived in the same location, after Tat's moved around the corner. I waited until any ill effects of eating meat again could be tempered with some time off of work. Luckily, by the time this came around, I had found myself a lovely lady whose family is from Philly. I brought her along and yes, it was just as we both remembered. Absolutely. Undeniably. Without a doubt. Unarguably. Delicious. My companion described it best with "It's how he shaved the steak." And it's true. I'm not a pesca-tarian with a Calozzi's clause (I didn't get ill at all, I've actually felt sicker after a vegetarian dinners in this town). Whiz "witout" onions.

If you walk past this place without going in you're wrong. You're just plain wrong. What I liked: - Everything (The food, the no-BS setting, the guys who run the place, the price; there literally is nothing to complain about) What I didn't like: - Smell? (So I lied, I'm a liberal, though, and that's what we do. If you hang out in there too long you might find yourself smelling like a pizza or a cheesesteak) It's an excellent cheesesteak (regardless of which one you get) or an even better slice of East coast pizza. You can't go wrong.

I wished I had more of an appetite to eat more that night (I don't ever get an appetite like many people do, when they partied a bit too hard). From the few bites I had it was delish. 3 in the morning didn't seem to phase their customer service with a store full of people who are definitely no where near sober. Had the Whiz Cheesesteak, Provolone Cheesesteak and a Pepperoni Pizza. Sadly I can only rate the Whiz, couple bites was hard enough for me to do... My friend did like their pizza and other cheesesteak. The portions were huge, when I say huge, I mean yeah huge. Tons of meats and enough whiz for me. Loved that they're open conveniently next to a whole bunch of clubs and bars til 4 in the morning. IF you're able to eat, then definitely stop by here after all that dancing in those clubs.

This is truly a mecca. You wanna know why? BAM! - They have like 6 things on the menu, and don't give a wet slap about anything else! BAM! - They make the *perfect* balance of meat to cheese to onion to bread. Unlike Tat's, they don't blow it with far too much meat! BAM! - The fellas in there are super nice! I'm not sure if it was their sister who packed the bag to go but this feels like a sweet family operation! BAM! - The guy who took my order said to me, with a sweet east coast accent "Hey, you see that over behind me? We're gonna make pizza soon. You know why? You can't get a decent pizza in Seattle". DOUBLE BAM! Across the street from a pizzeria SLAM! BAM! - They were blasting the Chairman of the Board over the stereo. EAT HERE. NOW. That is all.

This review is long overdue...back in February my husband and I decided to take a quick flight to Seattle for an extended weekend. As I always do, I went on Yelp in advance to check out the dining options, being a bit of a foodie. A well-made cheesesteak is in my top 5 favorite foods, so Calozzi's definitely caught my eye. Our first full day in Seattle, we head straight to Calozzi's, to find the door locked. What?!? Oh, we're 5 minutes early, they're not open yet. Phew. A few minutes later, we're the first in line and each of us order a cheesesteak 'wit wiz' (of course) and an order of fries. The brothers that own the joint were charming in their own Philly way and that alone made me want to support their new restaurant. The cheesesteaks? Delicious in a dripping-down-my-arm-until-it-pools-onto-my-wrapper kind of way. Normally I'm a little annoyed at drippy messy food, but in this case I saw it as an opportunity to lick up the last yummy cheesy drips. We tried to go back again before we left for the airport, but once again, a little too early. Didn't have time to wait that round, so we left for the airport salivating the whole way. My husband and I already have plans to be back in Seattle in September, and I don't have to tell you where our first lunch stop will be.

I have been wanting to try this place out forever. Unfortunately, between the burgeoning drunk crowds and over L.A. Looks' gelled hair guarding the entrance, it was relegated to "maybe next time" sort of thing. Luckily, 2 Saturdays ago destiny would prove favorable. Upon walking in I was immediately greeted with the sweet smell of onions and thinly sliced beef and gorging this delicious torpedo of meat all I could think was Nirvana. I don't know whether the beef was made from blessed cows or the processed cheese was made from the milk of a very happy cow, needless to say dem' s*@ts was DELICIOUS ! Do yourself a favor and grab one !

Their pizza oven is finally working!:) I was sooo excited to finally get to try their salumi pepperoni pizza last week. Personally, I preferred the cheese sample pizza I tried before the pizza oven was ready, but that is because I like soggier pizza over crispy pizza. If you like traditional crispy pizza, you will love it. If you are like me, it becomes more doughy, soggy when reheated at home. The large pizza is huge, so there will likely be left overs. The tomato sauce is outstanding. I get disappointed a lot with tomato sauce at some places. The salumi pizza has a good kick of spice, this is likely why they don't bother putting the herbs on it as they do with the cheese pizza.

The husband and I decided to do a Philly cheese steak day by trying both Tat's and Calozzi's. Originally, we plan to eat at Calozzi's first. But they weren't open yet. So being hungry enough to eat my own hand, we ended up at Tat's. Afterwards, we walked over to Calozzi's and it was still not opened (as described on Yelp). The owner saw me peeking through the window and immediately came out to apologize to us. He said he was on the phone with Yelp trying to change their business hour. He was so nice about it, we decided to wait, no biggie. We both like his friendly demeanor, definitely bonus point on that. Anyway, when it was finally time, we went in and ordered the cheese steak (wit-out, whiz) so we can do a fair comparison with Tat's. Damn, it was finger licking good. The sandwich came out piping out. Compare to Tat's, I feel they have bigger meat portion. They surely do not skimp on anything here. I can taste the cheese more and I prefer their bread (crunchier). It's no fuss, just stick to your ribs (and ass) good food. One thing I wasn't too wild about was that the whole place smelled like fried onions. But I'm biased because onions are my mortal enemy. Nonetheless, when you are in the area, do yourself a favor and get a Calozzi's cheese steak. You will not regret it.

Love this place!! Taste of back east in Seattle! Sandwich will be served on a piece of paper and you'll drink your soda out of a bottle. No frills atmosphere but damn is it good!! Wish it was closer, as I live in Birch Bay. :(

This has to be one of the best Cheese Steaks I've ever eaten. That includes Cheese Steaks in Philadelphia. This place is truly the proverbial hole in the wall. You walk in to the most spartan of all places you could. They have a grill, a fridge and Pizza Oven. The bread is top notch. It has enough crunch to not get supper soggy from all the grease. And this sandwich is greasy. They add some oil when they are done cooking it. The meat is not tough and chewy like many places. It's more like butter that melts in your mouth. If my arteries could handle it I'd eat here every day at least once if not twice. It's a good thing I live a long way away. The only reason I ate here the day before I'm actually in Philadelphia is because it was one of the few things open that was not outrageously expensive and not pizza which I've stopped eating after midnight. Now that you've read this this go to fatsickandnearlydead.com and watch the movie. You can also watch it on netflicks.

Ate here for the first time. I ordered a pepper steak with mushrooms & onions. They give you lots of meat a plus for them. If only it was a little more cheesier and had more flavor to it. All I have to say is at least I tried the place.

I've had the pleasure of eating at Callozzi's twice now but this last time was even more fun as they had some delicious Tomato Pies! I have to be honest when I say that Pizza's have always had a close place in my heart but as of late (the last few years) Pizza just seems really boring but after tasting what seems to be an authentic NY Pie, it brought the joy back. Good Cheese - Garlic - Yummy Sauce - Nuff Said. But there's more to Calozzi's then the Whiz:Steak and Pies.. It comes down to the smell, feeling and the friendly smiles the Calozzi Brothers offer as you walk in. The employees are nice. The delivery is quick and the food is great. I went with my co-workers this last time and they were quite blown away by the adventure we had. Thanks Calozzi's!!

Best Philly Sandwich in the North West. IF you want the real deal, this is the only place. The next best thing to heaven is their "white" pizza pie. They have fabulous pizza all around-but their "white pie" is a specialty you will not forget.

OH MY GOD. If you've ever readOH MY GOD. THIS CHEESESTEAK IS FUCKING DELICIOUS. Sorry-- if you've ever read any of my past reviews, you'll know I have a thing for cheesesteaks. Like, an insatiable love for them. For example: Me: "Oh boy! I'm going to lose a little weight, since the beers and years are catching up to my gut, so I'm going to go on a diet. Calozzi's: NOPE. Me: But... Calozzi's: FUCKING NOPE." If I passed within 20 city blocks of this place, it would take me every ounce of my being not to run in here and devour a full sammich and all the hot peppers. And, yes, of course they have the right kind of bread. That's what makes it so gosh-darn good. EDIT: HEEEYO!! Finally got the months old grease stain off of my car seat. Protip: do NOT hold a legit cheesesteak vertically.

First meal in Seattle, quite delicious and a pretty huge portion! The pictures are quite accurate, it is one massive sandwich, stuffed full of steak, onions and cheese. Tried the steak and cheese whiz, which was very good, but I am interested in going back to try one of the other ones. Sandwich is really huge, as one reviewer said definitely a lot of oil, I was unable to eat it without getting a little bit of everything... on my hand: steak, onions, oil, cheese, nothing was left out. Also was great to have a bite outside, and the owner was very friendly!

~REALLY REALLY REALLY DELICIOUS CHEESESTEAKS~ We live a few blocks from Calozzi's, and I'm sooooooo tempted to go in there every day on my way home. Any time I'm too lazy to cook: Calozzi's. If there's no food in the house: Calozzi's. If nobody's home to make dinner: Calozzi's. If someone brought Calozzi's home for Thanksgiving dinner, I'd honestly still be happy. P.S. The guys who work there are ridiculously nice too, so don't expect to be shunned if you don't know what to order/ if you've never had a cheesesteak. P.P.S. Since discovering Calozzi's, I've probably put on a few, so, BE WARNED. P.P.P.S. Still worth it

After the underground tour, we walked across the street to Calozzi's. The place is family owned and it looks like a whole in the wall place. There's the counter, the ovens and tables. The atmosphere is dope, they had Atomic Dog blasting over the speakers when we walked in. I think that's one of the reasons we decided to step in the place also. The cheese steaks and whiz fries were bomb. And yes, I said WHIZ fries. Cheese whiz on fries, never heard of it before, but it was divine. The cheese steaks are served to you piping hot. So don't burn your tongue! I didn't get the chance to try the pizza, but while we were there, this guy Dom was tossing and rolling the pizza dough. I've never seen that in real life before, but I'm pretty sure since the pizza is "homemade" that its great.

Good cheesesteak, although a bit greasier than I prefer. The atmosphere wasn't great either...although it is just a steak and cheese place I suppose.

holy crud this place make a good sandwich I did not eat breakfast so that this would be the first thing in my stomach . I was told about this place by a friend and when I walked in the owner was talking to me before my eyes could adjust to the inside . I ordered my sandwich with grilled onions and provolone cheese , he started making my food when suddenly he started screaming at a bum walking who was bothering another one of the customers . I told him that this place was cool before I even bite into the sandwich . but now that ate there I really think the place is cool . these two Philly sandwich place I have eaten at here in Seattle so far have ruined any other the food court styled sandwiches . no big lose there

Stopped in at Calozzi's for lunch last week and ordered a cheesesteak sandwich with mozzarella and onions to go. My huge sandwich started dripping greasy goodness on my way back to the office and I definitely received some hungry death glares from the homeless pioneer square creeps. LAY OFF ME, THIS IS MY SANDWICH AND I'M STARRRRRVING .......is what I should've said, but just picked up the pace and avoided eye contact. Anyways, came back to the office to fill up my stomach with warm toasty bread and tender beef with lots of onion flavors.. yum yum!! It's a different kind of sandwich than what they offer at Tat's, but also very delicious. I could only finish half and I was stuffed silly!

The dudes who own this place crack me up. Accommodating. Gracious. Loud as hell. Their "Ma" was in from the East Coast on my particular visit last week and they were treating her really sweet like because she was preparing them home cooked meals. The sandwich is a hot pile of meat and cheese and, if you like it, served "wit" onions. I got the provolone much to the despair of my fellow diners who all ordered their cheese steaks with the wiz. The claim that the sandwich is dry without the wiz doesn't hold water. I very much enjoyed mine with provi. They'll let you mix the cheese too if you aren't into taking sides. Highly recommend grabbing a few peppers out of the jar by the table and snacking on those while you load yourself up on meat and carbs. And forget trying to consume this thing without lubricant. Order a bottle of Coke to wash it all down. One extra star for how nice they are.

My new guilty pleasure! I used to be a Tat's fan but after coming to Calozzi's, I actually prefer them better (sorry Tat fans!) The guys that run the place are great, they chat with the customers, crack jokes and make you feel like you've walked in to one of their houses for lunch. The sandwiches are quite substantial and they do allow you to only order half which is great! The fries wit wiz are soooo good and they make a meal all their own! The only downside is when you go during lunch, you're looking at a long wait. The last time I went in for lunch I waited about 20 minutes for my sandwich. But overall I would not hesitate to recommend someone here. Great food, great atmosphere, great people. What more can you ask for?

So I had Cheesesteak Sandwiches wit' Whiz from Calozzi's for lunch and Tat's Delicatessen for dinner today. Yeah, I need some sort of drug to prevent a heart attack now. Let me tell you, both places serve a mean Cheesesteak and they're both like day and night. I prefer Calozzi's, and here's why. Ambiance: It's loud at Calozzi because of all the bro-love going on, and it's loud at Tat's because of the huge lines. Don't be fooled, long lines are a little trick places use to lure in the masses. I do wish that they had fountain drinks at Calozzi's though. Meat: For some reason, the meat is more fancy at Tat's... a little... too fancy. They put a lot of seasoning on it whereas Cal's has very little seasoning to it. My only memory of a Cheesesteak from Philly was that it was the best thing I ever tasted, and there was not much seasoning on it hiding the flavor of the beef. Bread: They give you a hard hoagie roll with the little dimples at Tats and they give you a more hardened version of a sandwich roll at Ca'ls. The bread is really a toss up even though I am not a fan of hoagie rolls. Cheese: Who knew cheese could make so much difference? I ordered Cheese Whiz at both places and I could actually taste the Whiz at Cal's while at Tat's it was infused with the meat. Basically, it's like cooking a burger with the ketchup on it instead of putting it on there afterwards. Not like regular cheese. I find it funny that these two are so close to each other. Tat's definitely has the star power, but Cal's is much more authentic and delicious. My vote goes to Calozzi's!! :)

SEXY! I don't know how sexy you can really say a greasy cheese steak is but there is just something about great late night greasy foods that are just bloody amazing... and sexy is one route to go with it. Nestled right there on Occidental, in the heart of Pioneer Square, this spot can be easily overlooked for the plethora of hot dog carts in the area... but trust me when I tell you a cheese whizz soaked cheesesteak with grilled onions totally kicks a hot dog in the family jewels... even our beloved Seattle dog can't compete. I took my cousin here for the first time last night and the guy is definitely a super fan for Calozzi's now. Great service, despite being so busy they were quick and before we knew it we were chowing down on a monster of a sandwich. I talk about this spot whenever I can and am super glad I was finally able to bring one of my family by. Calozzi's is the absolute truth! Great post bars and the perfect bookend to a night of drunken debauchery.

I gave Calozzi's 3 stars, because the philly with onions and cheese wiz that I ordered tasted good for three bites until my appetite quickly deteriorated into nausea. Another reason I gave Calozzi's 3 stars, is because the potent fried onion smell stayed on my clothes and fingers for over three hours. My girlfriend finally forced me to take a shower in order to rid my body of the stench. I guess I'm just not a cheesesteak guy. I loved the establishment. I loved the employees. I even loved the complimentary peppers. Unfortunately, I didn't love the food. I also didn't appreciate the place being closed yesterday (12-02-11) at midnight when they were supposed to be open until 4 A.M. 3 stars, from a guy who obviously doesn't appreciate good cheesesteaks.

Just got out the club, lookin' for some grub.. you know how it is. My boyfriend's friend (fellow Yelper, Justin M.) suggested this place, who had actually just gone there the night before. Ordered a philly with provolgne and onions and some fries to share with my boyfriend. Best drunk munchies I've probably ever had! I like alot of meat in my sandwich and I get disappointed if I don't get enough.. but damn, they give you heeeella meat in your cheesesteak! Couldn't even finish the whole thing. Cheesesteak was straight up grease-filled (as in soaking-through-the-paper-bag greasy, which reminded me of that episode of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air when he orders one in Philly haha), yet super flavorful and satisfying. Lots of interesting drunk people roaming the streets of Pioneer Square at 2am.. kinda sketch, but eat inside the place and you won't even notice or even care. Good times.

I just started working in Pioneer Square so I have been out looking for the perfect lunch spot. I stumbled upon Calozzi's by accident, the smell was so amazing I had to stop in! I ordered the Cheesesteak with provolone and onions... I'm a little nervous about the cheese wiz... next time I will have to try it. :) The place was packed with everyone waiting for their sandwich, it seemed I came in at the end of the lunch rush. I had to wait about 10-15 minutes for my sandwich, which is completely understandable considering the amount of people. I finally received my sandwich; it was hot, greasy and cheesey... perfect. It was absolutely fantastic, it reminds me of the cheesesteaks I get when I go back east. Thank you Calozzi's for finally giving Seattle and authentic cheesesteak! :)

I don't want to be the dissenting voice here. The family is nice, and the food is okay. I went here at about 10:30 pm, and I had a sausage sandwich with some marinara. I'll say this much. The bread that they use is better than Tat's, and this place has more of an Italian/Philly East Coast vibe than Tat's. For those who like their Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches with wiz (not me), well they've got that too. Now for the bad part. I found something hard in my sandwich, and I still have no idea what it was so I'll just leave it at that. The food seems kind of quickly thrown together here at least for the night time crowd. Canned marinara sauces and tomatoes, whiz, there just seem to be a lot of shortcuts and that's really not my thing. Sorry Calozzi's. Sorry Tat's. I'm going to keep walking a few extra blocks to get to Mediterranean Mix for my lamb Philly or Gyro with fries...

I really wanted to like this place as the staff was awesome and really genuine but unfortunately the food fell really short for me. I ordered a cheesesteak, a pepperoni cheesesteak and fries and although I expected some pretty serious grease, these sandwiches were ridiculous. It was really hard to eat them as the buns were soaked and it really seemed to be straight oil, not even meat juices? I decided to ditch the bun and that was better but it wasn't really a cheesesteak after that. Maybe some stronger bread is in order?

Best cheesesteak in seattle. F'ing stellar, actually. Walked into restaurant and it's like I was teleported to freaking south philly. The guys who work/own this joint are awesome. The sandwich was outstanding. Steak w/ wiz, that's all you need to know, and now you do, so go get one.

I had high expectations reading all the good reviews, but the place fell short of my expectations. Got the steak with onions and provolone and the meat was very bland. Need more salt or throw some sauce on the meat. There was alot of oil on the sandwich as well. Oil seeped through all the paper wrappings and the paper bag and on to my desk. I'll stick with my usual spot Tat's. Better sandwich imo.

Thanks to Katy H's absolutely awesome review of this place - I was ecstatic that I was downtown the other day and could check it out for myself. I love myself a good Philly Cheesesteak sandwich, and this place HITS DA SPOT!!! Huge size, tender flavorful pieces of steak, and a yummy provolone cheese melting all over. I opted to use the Cheezewhiz for my fries!!! Seriously, super delicious! I even added some of my cheezewhiz fries to my sandwich for an extra cheezy sandwich. The owners were really friendly and I got there for a very very late lunch...so in no time I was biting into my amazing sandwich. Careful...if you get here too late in the afternoon, they just might turn you away and make you come back when they turn the grills back on later on in th evening. (Phew...we made it just in time!)

Was passing through Seattle, heard rave reviews about Tats, an while yelping saw the comments about Calozzi's, saw pics and chose Calozzi's, walked in at 2:30, ordered 4 sandwiches, they were out of fries , provolone, and mushrooms :( ordered wit, without, with wiz, and one with peppers. All of them were fantastic. Not giving 5stars because of the above mentioned an also penguins could have been housed inside....bathroom was also ewwwwww"ish" ...... Putting all that aside.....GREAT sandwich!!!!

All you need to know about this place is that Al and Steve live for this place and the food reflects it. Can't say I could eat these every day, but after a Mariners' game or a night out, it's better than anything. While I loves-me some Tat's, Calozzi's is the only place to go for a cheesesteak. And if you get a steak with anything other than whiz, you shouldn't be eating it in the first place.

What's not to like about this place....except the next morning when your stomach is asking you why the hell did you eat that last night??? Don't get me wrong, I'd go thru the same ordeal over and over and over again (and have)! The cheesesteak is simple and delicious, as it should be. Loaded with meat and drowning in Wiz, resting inside a fresh baguette that is structurally sound enough to contain it's cargo but soft enough to not cut up the roof of your mouth. It reminds me of all the ones I tried in Philly. The owners are great too! They love to BS and make the average fist timer there feel like they are a seasoned regular to this great establishment. The first time I've ever experienced this place, they were still selling cheesesteaks through a door, right behind the entrance to Belltown Billiards. Now they have an actual dine in area and an extended menu, that goes beyond their awesome cheesesteak. If you're headed to one of the games or just looking for an authentic cheesesteak in Seattle, HEAD HERE!

Awesome cheesesteaks and BIG. I really like the Donnie but all are very tasty. I also love the huge portion of crinkle cut fries fresh and very crispy. The owner is such a fun guy and all the staff very nice. They have also remodeled the interior so now pretty nice to sit and eat in as well.

This is one of those places you need to go to when you think to yourself "I need to feel pain!" If I remember right, they're open very late night so you can feel that pain all night long. Don't get me wrong, the food is great, but I always walk away with a tummy ache whenever I eat one of their sandwiches. The whiz fries are awesome, get those but skip the sammich.

Since I work in Pioneer Square, I'm spoiled by the different places that I can go grab a bite to eat and bring it back to my desk... When Tat's moved down the street, and saw that Calozzi's was moving in, I thought to myself, "man, what are they thinking putting a cheesesteak place where a cheesesteak place used to be?" I held out for awhile, pledging my allegiance to Tat's... but on a whim, i went over to Calozzi's, looking for a quick bite between meetings. I'm thankful I stopped in... Had the "wiz wit" and although the steak is a little dry, the over abundance of Whiz certainly made up for it... Only downside is that the fries cost $4.00... little high in my opinion...

The owner was so helpful and such a pleasure. The sandwich was some down-home goodness and I would recommend this place to anyone. So many good sandwich spots nearby, but this is where you go for that filling philly cheesesteak w/ cheeze whiz!

A friend and I stumbled across Calozzi's after an M's game via a Yelp tip. Walking in, we were greeted by a big fella wearing a shirt with "F*CK TATS" scrawled across the chest. It became immediately apparent that these guys mean business. The joint is operated by the Calozzi brothers and their buddy Dom. Calozzi's is a family affair, and these guys are the real deal. If you want to get jacked up about a sandwich, talk to Al Calozzi about what makes his cheesesteak the best in Seattle. Order one up and you are immediately part of the family, just make sure to tell them you want your sandwich WIT WHIZ and take a seat. You'll be greeted with a king's ransom of finely chopped steak, carmelized onions and gooey whiz, cradled by a flaky italian roll that keeps the juices where you want them. Try the steak sandwich with mushrooms and provolone (The Donnie) if you aren't having a whiz kind of day, and they also cook up a real nice tomato or white pizza with salumi sausage. I'd recommend a Calozzi philly steak for lunch, or after an M's game, or grab a pizza pie real late on a Saturday night (they keep the doors open all weekend). I liked the place so much, I did all three in 24 hours after my initial visit. After trying the cheesesteaks and hanging out at Calozzi's for a couple hours, I can say with confidence that if I want an authentic philly cheesesteak in Seattle...F*CK TAT'S, I'm going to Calozzi's.

Hands down grilled philly cheesesteak in Seattle. The business is family owned which is a big plus for me. The brothers behind the counter were very receptive and humble, like a family affair. Ordered the Philly w/ provolone and mushrooms. The steak was very very very juicy and tons of flavor. While the cheese melts into the bread and creates a baked cheese bread like effect. All in all I would recommend this place to everyone. Thanks to guys at Calozzi's for sharing a piece of your history with us.

Stopped by on the way to the Wamu for a concert. Had the Philly, Provolone with onions. Damn! That was a huge and really good sandwich. we thought, "no way we can eat these" but that changed to "I can't stop eating this..." Good guys running this spot. super polite and friendly. The best spot for some quick grub on Pioneer Square.

CALOZZIS IS THE SPOT... NEVER been to philly, but im assuming this is as close as you can get w/o bookin a flight for a sandwich... ive been here sober and drunk and i must say it hits the spot...these guys KNOWS cheesesteak...and thats why im back all the time...well...every weekend, and they are open late too on a fri and Sat... the guys are all business in there, so know wat you want...if not, they can help ya...and ya know its good when there is people in there all the time, from early to late nights, they are always cookin up a storm...

So, I know this isn't confessional, and there isn't a Yelp Father to forgive me of my sins. But, I did a bad bad thing and have learned from my mistakes. "No onions with provolone, please." /hangs head in shame. After not understanding why the "mmm" and "ohmyghawd" sounds were issuing from my fiance who ordered properly, (the Whiz and onions Cheesesteak), I took a bite of his. My face told all. Like a knight, he swooped my lacking Cheesesteak up and went to the counter. My hero! The owners gladly slapped on some Whiz, free of charge, on my ill conceived Cheesesteak transforming it instantly into a meaty cheesy bliss. The next time, I ordered correctly. The time after that, I ordered the same but with Salumi (like pepperoni, but better) mixed in with the steak. THAT is my new favorite. My fiance and I live about 40 to an hour away, and we make this trip when we can happily.

Calozzi's has declared war on my attempt to eat healthier this year. Disappointed with another long line at Tat's, a co-worker and I stepped over to Tat's old spot to try out Calozzi's. Man were we glad we did. Everything we've tried has been somewhere between pretty good to fantastic. Their bread is crispy and chewy, the meat is full flavored and satisfying, and the extras, like sauce and cheese, all seem to complement the sandwiches in both flavor and ratio. In terms of experiences, my favorite moment here was when I planned on having the meatball, but I noticed it was off their chalkboard menu in the back when we arrived. When I asked about it, Dominic (I think that's his name?) apologized profusely, and told me he might still have some in the back that he would be more than happy to bring out if I wanted it. I wasn't about to put him through the trouble as it was the lunch rush and I'd be holding up the people behind me, but I was still very impressed. For the amount of food you get, the prices are *very* reasonable. A 12" Cheesesteak piled high for $8? That's just an amazing deal. The highest they get is an $11 Chicken Cutlet, which is a few pieces of soft white meat with fantastic seasonings, charred just a little bit like it came off a grill. Now when my co-workers and I go out as a team, we no longer argue where to go. We argue about which sandwiches to order.

Quite possibly the best cheesesteak I've ever had. Its a hole in the wall kinda place. You walk in and wonder if the place is even open. Very simple operation, but the product is amazing. Highly recommend

The staff is amazing...from the moment you walk in the door (and maybe even before) they make you feel like family. The food is absolutely amazing. Wiz+onions=win. Simple as that. I will definitely be going back again soon.

Cheesesteaks. It's all they do, and they do it right. Get one with Whiz and onions and you'll know what a real cheesesteak is supposed to taste like. Yummo.

  • Brian L.

It's true, for Seattle standards- this really IS the best cheesesteak you'll get. But what else is true is I've had some damn good cheesesteaks in my day, and I can't say Calozzi really comes close to any of 'em. The steak is seasoned well but I wish they had some provolone or white cheddar, instead of "the Whiz" which I'm not a fan of. Let me just add, they claim the bread is flown in daily from New Jersey, which I have a few gripes about: first, why fly in New Jersey bread for a Philly? Am I overanalyzing or is there something odd about that? Second, they should buy from a local baker and charge the customer less for all the money they'll be saving by buying local! Lastly, the bread tastes like a regular french roll/hoagie. There isn't some magical fluffiness about their rolls that I've never tasted before. It tastes like bread. So don't call it special, and don't go out of your way to get the stuff! Anyway, sorry for the rant. And I know that's probably irrelevant to most people but that kind of silliness deserves a star deduction. The simple decor, good food, and nice service are all on par- but nothing was exceptional or memorable about this place. I can't really put my finger on what turned me off from the food there, but Calozzi's won't be on my list of to-do's when I visit. And to be honest, I'd rather hit up Tat's around the corner anyway.

OMG! OMG! The philly cheesteaks are the best I've had in Seattle! The meat is juicy, juicy, juicy! We had the provolone with mushrooms. The cheese was melted onto the bun with the meat stacked on top. Result: you get a juicy, cheesy sandwich without soggy bread. My mouth is watering as I write. Can't wait to go back!

That Philly was amazing! I haven't had a Philly made like that, well ever! Definitely delicious! I will be visiting again! I had a Philly with cheeze whiz (who wouldn't?!?) and whiz fries! Cheezy goodness!!

Update: I made a second visit. The first time I came here was at lunchtime during the week. The place was so crowded, I had to wait for a table to open. My second visit was before a Sounders game. I figured it would be really packed, but only one table was occupied--I assume the lack of crowd was due to the fact that they don't serve alcohol like Tat's. The woman behind the counter suggested I try white American Cheddar on my sandwich instead of provolone, and voila! Now that was a great sandwich. I guess the trick is to come here when they aren't busy. I'm updating my rating to four stars and will be back.

A philly style cheesesteak with Wiz...count me in this place is legit. It definitely mirrors the Philly cheesesteaks of Gino's and Pats - a few recommendations tho - the cheesesteak I got was a little too sloopy - some sloppiness is to be expected but it was a mess, but it was good as well. Also, I ordered a side of fries and it came in a huge brown lunch bag - it was a ton of fries and the whole meal was more expensive than I thought - add a half order of friens to the menue and clean the cheesesteaks up a bit so I don't end up wearing the majority of it on my shirt.

I came here the other night after drinnking with some fellow Yelpers. I had half of my friends cheesesteak. This place is great for late night dinning ( think after the clubs) as they stay open till three ( or is it 4am)? The brothers that run this place were super friendly and our food came out very promptly. Be warned the sandwiches are huge. I'd have to guess they're just about a foot long however long they are at 8 bucks they are a great deal. My only complaint is they were pretty greasy. Overall the place was great but I'd ask them to go easy on the oil next time. I'll for sure come back when my options are limited after the clock hits 11, when most folks stop serving dinner.

I've been on a quest for for the ultimate cheesesteak for a long time. So far I've only found one that really stood out of the crowd, and that was at Dave & Busters in Cali. Calozzis did make an impression for sure, and I'd feel good saying it's probably one of the better ones I've found in Washington so far. The bread is right, meat was flavorful but a tad dry, onions were really lacking in quantity and quality, mistakenly asked for provalone cheese, so I'll take the blame for not liking that part. I'd go back for more again, and if certain elements are still lacking, my rating will go down. Oh, and the rap music blasting is annoying as hell, Take your food and run away.

One of the few authentic cheese steak places in Seattle! I used to be a Tat's fan, but after visiting this place, it's my new place for cheese steaks!! Everything, the meat, cheese, and bread are of high quality. If not for the food come for the great service and friendly staff. You can definitely tell that these guys are from the East Coast and they they know to make a great cheese steak! Cheese steak - Bread was excellent and the meat was flavorful. They have the classic cheeses: cheese whiz, American, and Provolone. Roast Pork Sandwich - ABSOLUTELY the best roast pork sandwich, I've ever had. If you're not a fan of cheese steaks, this is great alternative!

with the mismatched tables and chairs and the bare walls taped with posters, this place is a dive but the cheese steaks are messy, juicy, and great. i would definitely go out of my way to eat here again. i was surprised nobody had a menu available online so a i've uploaded a photo of the menu!

If you're from Philadelphia, you'll find a way to go to Calozzi's once a week, even if you live on the east side like me. Al used to cook at Belltown Billiards and when he wasn't there one day, I was heart broken. I thought I'd be stuck going to Tat's for cheesesteaks, so hearing that a new guy took over the old Tat's location gave me hope. Thank god it was Al. Al and his brother Steven run a friendly shop and make the steaks as authentic as you could hope for, wit or witout onions, and wit whiz. The place is great. The guys are awesome. Support Calozzi's in the Pioneer square steak wars. Get your sandwich at Tat's, fine, but not your steak.

GO HERE FOR THE PIZZA~! Cheesesteaks here are solid (I've been hitting up Calozzi's for the cheesesteaks for about 9 months now). They just started serving pizza though, and I have to say - it is amazing. Best in Seattle. The price is good, the slices are a good size. Definitely legit. I would rate the following: Cheesesteaks - 4/5 Service - 5/5 Establishment - 3/5 Pizza 5/5 Pricing 5/5 These guys are awesome. If you go in there a couple times, they will start remembering your name. Its clear that they care about their customers and that they are passionate about what they do. They are true hustlers of the food game. If you like pizza or cheesesteaks - go here. You will not be disappointed.

Decided to check out this place after hearing and reading rave reviews from the Yelp community. I just moved to the Chinatown area so I made the walk over. It is kinda hidden and on first appearance looks a tad scary. But, I love Cheese steaks. I prefer provolone but, I make it a rule whenever I try a new cheesesteak place to get it with Wiz. The Sandwich was a great size with more than enough meat and cheese. The bread was perfect texture and crunch. I met the owner and sat down and chatted for awhile and he seemed really cool. I will definitely visit again and expand on the menu. I can't wait to visit on a weekend drunken haze and eat something this delicious. I don't give a lot of 5 stars after a first visit but, this can easily change over time. And Bang for the Buck at $8 this is a great value. My only 2 wishes are plates and frequent visit card just so I have something in my wallet to remind me to stop by.

  • Joyce J.

The Philly Cheesesteaks here are HUGE! I got a cheesesteak with grilled onions and whiz and the foot long sandwich totally owed me. The meat were juice and it was hard to keep the table clean (this place gives you no plates or utensils just the wrapper around the sandwich. After getting through half of it, I had to ask for a bad to pack the rest home because it was so big. I think the owners should really consider selling a half sized cheesesteak for people who many not be able to eat a whole sandwich.

Took FOREVER!! Health violations!! I came in here around 1 p.m. on a Friday and it took about 30 minutes to get my sandwich (this is after ordering, with about 4 sandwiches in front of me). I stood there in the restaurant with the rest of the patrons and watched the staff make the sandwiches. Wow. It was the least efficient operation I've ever seen in my life, not to mention that I saw one of them handle RAW BEEF and then immediately handle SOMEONES SANDWICH without changing gloves or washing their hands. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, hoping the sandwich would be good. I work downtown and take it from me, GO TO TATS. So much better, faster (even if there's a long line) and surely better sanitation practices. I really wanted to like this place. This being said, the sandwich was decent tasting, but I took it to go so once I got it back to my office it was pretty soggy... probably would be better if I had eaten it there. Eat at Tats, its well worth it.

This proves that if you look for something long enough, then you will find it. I've been here quite a few times since it opened. I used to go to the same establishment before Calozzi's took over and I was OK with that joint but these guys are doing everything right. They've been seasoning their griddle and it's getting to that good seasoning on it now. Today was the best experience yet. I had the "Wiz wit" and it made me forget that I wasn't in Philly for a minute. It was messy with wiz and it was a little too sloppy to eat at the end because that's the way it's supposed to be. The bread is great and seasoning is near perfection. I've been waiting for a real Philly steak for over 10 years and I would have been happy with this one if I got it in Philly. That's saying a lot.

Nothing like a cheesesteak with wiz and onions to satisfy those late night cravings! The guys working there were fun to talk to and the cheesesteaks were made to order. "Atta boy!"

  • Thomas L.

It's Philly, it's cheesesteak... it's awesome! So the pluses with Calozzi are that they include tax in their price, you taste more of the flavor of the meat than at Tat's and it's never as crowded as Tat's. The downside? the cheesesteak wasn't as filling. While you taste more of the meat, there is also a lack of toppings. If you add whiz, they just put too much of it. I think that it will be rather rare for me to come by again especially with Tat's being around the corner. Until next time... if there is a next time!

In Seattle, Calozzi's IS as good as it gets. I tested the whiz wit and provolone wit on my first visit and was not disappointed. Meat- check, bread-double check!! Generous with the whiz and the provolone is nice and sharp. The bread is spot on. I searched the city Philly far and wide for the best and was a fan of Jims. I never tried anything other than the steaks though. Today, I decide to give Calozzi's the next challenge and order something beside the steak. So, I go with Jenns chicken sandwich. I realized after the first bite, these guys are truly legit. The chicken turns out to be really moist that tastes great with all the red peppers on the sandwich. I can't wait to try the meatballs and pork. The ingredients all seem to be authentic and from home recipes. In a world gone so bad, it really helps to find a gem like this.

Yes, you want to do this. Seriously. I wanted to do it, too, and I'm glad I did even though the 5 miles I ran this morning were effectively negated AND the Sounders game had just let out so the wait was crazy. It was worth it on BOTH counts. And yes, it'll be worth going to the gym tonight, too.

Had my first steak tonight from these guys and I wish I had ordered two. Not due to portion size, I just want more! I WILL be back! Update: I had to go back today, I just had to. My truck is breaking down and running on 3/4 cylinders and I still had to push the poor thing from Ballard to get there, I had to have more! Shook Steve's hand and the cook from last night recognized me from last night even. If you don't love the steaks from these guys something is wrong with you. Back for the 3rd time last night and again so, so good. Masterpiece. The bread, perfect. Light and airy with the nice light crust on the outside and not too chewy inside. The meat and onions and wiz exploded onto my palate. They chop it up, nice and light and its juicy and flavorful. Plus, the guys here love what they do and are passionate about it. Being a former cook, I know that kind of food love and it makes me appreciate the experience all the more. GO EAT HERE!

I've been meaning to try Calozzi's ever since it was featured on Yelp. It just so happened one day that a co-worker suggested to go for a "team lunch," so we did. From all the positive reviews and recommendations made by people, I was expecting Colozzi's to be the Paseo's of cheese steak. To put it frankly, the sandwich was lacking flavor, bland. The bread was warm and soft, the meat was prepared well, and there was plenty of sauces you could add on yourself, however overall it was lacking any sort of Philly cheese steaky flavor. I had the regular cheese steak with onions and the classic neon yellow cheese sauce. The sandwich has a lot of potential, if only there was a little more flavor. The family running this business provides real friendly service.

Cheese, cheese, cheese, wonderful cheese. Got the philly whiz wit. $8.00!!! Glorious cheese whiz! Their phone # is 467-whiz!! Fun place, after finishing your sandwich, don't be surprised if you get asked by the guys on the other side of the counter if everything was good! They told me they are going to open a pizzeria soon off the space. Will be fun to see their take on pizza! Chances are it will be awesome and priced great!

This will be my go to lunch place in downtown. For 8 bucks, you get a massive sandwich which tastes great. Authentic down to the accent from the owner. Simple place where you can eat there for take to go. They are open late and their line is much shorter than Tat's which is the space they took over when Tat's moved around the corner.

Decided to try this place out over the weekend and it was soooo delicious. Cheesesteak with cheese whiz= awesome! The owner runs the whole shop and does an incredible job. Great food and great customer service!

The guys running this place are very polite and friendly. The wife was home taking care of the sick baby, but I bet she's really nice too. I had the Donnie, which is a Philly with shrooms. It was very tasty. It was also the largest Philly I've ever had. Mind you, I haven't had a lot of Phillies in my life, but this was the biggest. Jeez, if that's not a set up to a Michael Scott joke, I don't know what it is! Anyway, really big, too big for me Philly, full of onions, shrooms, and provolone. Kind of pricey but the size of the sandwich is worth it. However, I couldn't eat more than a half, and it felt rich enough to my system that eating the second half later felt wrong. Well, would've felt wrong. If you catch my drift ... Whoops, went into Dwight Schrute territory there.

Easily the best cheesesteaks in Washington State. There's a lot of hype going on for this joint right now, but it's well deserved. I went in with unrealistically high expectations -- and somehow, those expectations were met in full. I've been to Philly, I get the difference between real cheesesteaks and the imitators. Calozzi's is the real deal, kids! They do sandwiches, and just sandwiches: large, hearty and delicious. The steak is top quality, from a local butcher. The bread is excellent, is made in batches, and does a great job holding all the steak, juice and cheese. And while you can get yours with provolone, mozarella and more, you can get it with Whiz too! Don't scoff, that's exactly what a good cheesesteak should be made with. If it ain't a whiz steak wit' onions, it ain't a steak. The brothers that run this place are definitely a part of the experience. They're friendly, talkative and clearly love what they do. I don't often rate 5 stars, but Calozzi's deserves 6.

This place is excellent! Philly Cheesesteak is the real deal, and with the whiz you can't lose! Bread is top notch, steak and onions are all quality. They crank it out quick, and friendly charismatic guys running the place. I make shuttles all the way from SLU to Pioneer Square to eat these!

Don't let the appearance fool you, this place is great! Only a few selections, but the food is fantastic. Service is great too. If you're in the mood for cheesesteak, this is a must in Seattle!

I'd never ever had a real Cheesesteak sandwich before I came to this place.. and I'm convinced that it's the real deal. Greasy as hell but it's still delicious - wit w/provolone is my deal. What compelled me to write a review was not the sandwich, but the service. When you walk into this place you know that you are appreciated as a customer.. everyone smiles, says hello, asks how your food is in a way that is completely ...GENUINE! WHAT, who does that????

Tried 3 of them the other day The Donnie (Steak and Mushroom, no cheese) - The flavors are amazing, my personal favorite. So juicy.... Pizza Steak - Great if you need a little acid to cut the intense flavors Philly Cheesesteak, wit Wiz - Best Philly in Seattle Also had a HUGE bag of fries wit Wiz - Not sure if I would get those again only because I'd rather have more steak!

Quick service - good for lunch - but cheesesteak was dry at times - and the wiz cheese was too messy and only on top I the sandwich, leaving bites without cheese

I, too, had to have this sandwich after seeing the pic on Yelp for days. :) Everything has pretty much been said and I don't really have much to add except for......Try it! STAT! The food and the crew are well worth the visit. Ordered it "wit provolone". Very very good. The original is "wit wiz", my hubby had it wit wiz and Oh. My.God. Palate orgasm! I will def have it wit wiz next time!! And trust me there will be a next time! The 5 star rating is for the combination of food AND Dominick! He takes no sh*t! Saw him handle a situation with an asshat and I was totally chuffed! We gave him a round of applause! He's the bestest! Kudos to Dominick and his crew for bringing us the real deal in Philly food and attitude! ;-)

I grew up in Atlantic City and lived for seven years in Philadelphia. My dad worked for Sack'o Subs and ran his own sub shop for a few years. Which is to say, I know my cheesesteaks. Calozzi's steak is a Phily-style, not a White-House AC style, sandwich. That means the bread is quite soft and the cheese is Whiz. (The Atlantic City cheesesteak is on a firmer Italian bread and comes with melted provalone, not Whiz.) I ordered a steak with no whiz and with fried onions. It was cooked perfectly, but it was barely seasoned. Salting and peppering the meat while it's on the grill is essential; Calozzi's steak didn't have much flavor. Then I made the mistake of asking for some hot peppers. I was given a shaker of red pepper flakes. I said, "No, I need some diced or sliced hot peppers." They didn't have any. I was very disappointed. A steak without that vinegary tang of preserved hots just isn't the same. I also wasn't offered tomato or lettuce, which are standard on Atlantic-City-style cheesesteaks and which add a wonderful coolness to the hot meat. In any case, Calozzi's offers the best steak hoagie I've found in Seattle. It'll do until the next time I can make it down the Shore.

Amazing peeper cheesesteak. The only compliant I have is that I like my cheesesteak spicy but the peppers are sweet not spicy.

I've always been on a quest to find the best cheesesteaks in the Seattle area (Don't even try, not worth the effort) and even in Pennsylvania as my previous job required me to head out there few times a year... And the final verdict, Al Calozzi makes the best classic cheesesteaks in the world and you have to appreciate it for what it is in its classic form; finely chopped up steaks, perfectly salted, finely sliced onions, with Whiz! As a result, you get a warm, melt in your mouth divine sandwich. IMHO, my first bites always force my eyes to close, shake my head side to side in disbelief, Mm mm sounds and thinking to myself that all the B.S. that I deal with on a weekly basis just pauses at this moment in time... Also, they do a good job with their crinkle fries. It's the classic smaller size, perfectly deep fried, perfectly salted, and housed in a brown paper bag so that you can squeeze some ketchup into it, shake it, and eat it! Lastly, Al and his brother Steve treat you like family, so come check this place out!

We already know what calozzies brings to the table, and it is their wonderful, delicious, mouth watering PHILLY!!! With cheese whiz! Yes cheese whiz. About as original as original gets! Huge portions guaranteed to make you work for every bite and savor it. The decor makes it that much better and the employees are from Philly so they only do it the right way. I have become a Philly snob and this is the only place I go for a Philly.

Walking into Calozzi's for the first time today, I was instantly greeted by the check wielding the metal spatulas over his pile of grilled meat, onions and peppers. Both the woman at the counter and the other gentleman there immediately followed with very warm greetings -all with their thick Philly accent. Instantly, I felt I was in a very welcome place and that these people care about their craft - and turns out they do. The wall by the register is covered with family pictures of the owners/workers there - of which there are only a few, wearing multiple hats. This is a family place that when you eat there, you are family. One of the gentlemen there came up to the woman at the register and said, "Hey Mommy, those two guys are going to Philly later this week. I gave them Jimmy and Bobby's numbers!" Comments like that tell you about how you can expect to get treated while you're at Calozzi's. I love that their menu has just 5 items on it. None of these crazy mile long lists - just make a few things really good. I had the Italiano, which was marinated pork loin, cut up thin, sauteed onions and spinach and sharp Provolone cheese. They mentioned there are some secret ingredients in there and let me tell you - I believe them. The flavor was incredible. The chef came out to check how we liked our meal and we were thanked again by the whole family crew there for stopping by. I give Calozzi's a huge thumbs up and will be returning again - for the food and the incredibly friendly services.

Saw this place on another friend's review today and had to check it out right away. Really nice, homegrown Philly staff. It is still under construction for the pizzaria addition. YUMMY! Okay, so the food. Perfect. Just how a cheese steak is supposed to be. Had to splurge and get the whiz fries. Then I loaded up on the cherry peppers, which are served East Coast style, right out of the jar with tongs. Let some of the guys at the office sample it all and they are in love too. It is a bit of a hike from 3rd and Union, but well worth it. At $8 (even, tax already included) this is a sandwich for two or for a voracious appetite. They are open until 4am on the weekends, for that late night craving cure! I am looking forward to trying out the pizza pies once they are finished building out.

Well Ive lived here in the Pioneer Square area since 2004, Ive eaten at their competitor (Tats Deli) many times (see my review on Tats) BTW I like choice so Im glad to live in an area with such great choices for grubilicious food! I think that theres ample business to be had for both joints! so when Calozzis opened up I had to give it a shot. The very first thing you notice is the smell...if youre hungry and a carnivore-youre doomed! and even if you arent hungry it still smells damn good. The second thing you notice is the effusive friendliness of the folks behind the counter.... now depending on your pov this can be either good or bad. Service is friendly and good, but can sometimes be slow when theyre real busy-thats because they grill to order-no precooked anything-when you order it they begin to grill it! The Quality: One Word-Superb.... especially at this price point. The Menu: One word: Simple.... Cheesesteaks, Meatballs (hand made and cooked to order) and the legendary whiz fries ($4 for a huge bag of fries drenched in 'Whiz!) and of course drinks. The Cost: $8 tax included per 12" sandwich, extra whiz free Half sandwiches $5 All I can say is check 'em out-you wont be sorry! UPDATE: Check out their new Website at: calozzisbeta.zxq.net

As a Philly area native, I find myself wanting to try philly specialties when I'm traveling. When I was in Seattle I figured I would try what Yelpers have called the "best cheesesteak in Seattle". Well I can honestly say that it doesn't quite hold up to the Philly best of standards. I have to commend the roll as being perfect. The cheesesteak starts and ends with the roll. If it's bad, you might as well not even eat the sandwich. With that said, for Seattle to have this high of a quality roll, I was more than pleased. The meat I could see being prepared after ordering it. It was chopped up to death, a la Jim's back home. Not my favorite preparation. I don't mind if it's chopped up a little, but there was too much clinging and clanging for my liking. The meat itself was a little tasteless as I don't think it was seasoned enough for me. It looked as though they were using fresh ribeye, which is a huge plus. My girlfriend and I shared the sandwich and she isn't a huge fan or American or Whiz (which go best with a cheesesteak IMO), so we went with provolone and of course had fried onions on it. The cheese was melted nicely and the onions I thought were cooked enough. The sandwich was definitely missing something, I just don't know what. The service was spectacular and the owner was very enthusiastic with what he was doing. I would definitely go back if I was in town to get my cheesesteak craving.

"Gallons upon gallons of cheez whiz" is right! This place is over the top. The pepperoni cheese steak is delicious, cheesy, greasy, decadent, and a little bit messy. That's what you're looking for though, right? The owner was cool and friendly. It wasn't very busy when I was here, on a weekday right in the heart of lunch hour, so my sandwich was custom made within just a few minutes. Maybe just a bit greasy for my taste, but I'll be coming back.

I have traveled to Philly many a time and this place does it right. If you can't go to Philly come to Calozzi's! In fact I recommend going there before Philly so you know what a real cheese steak should taste like! Walking into their place is like walking into an old school joint on Passyunk Ave or South Street. The aroma of sautéed onions and grilled beef assault you as soon as you walk in. Al will also greet you as soon as you walk in, even if he is knee deep it orders he will take the time to say hello to you. I order the everything with wiz and every time it blows me away. The onions are perfectly caramelized sweet and crunchy. The steak is tender and juicy, with just the right amount of fat for flavor. The rolls? Forget about it! Perfectly done, chewy and fresh, they way it otta be! A must visit if you're in Seattle!

Don't let the line fool you too! Love this place - very personable owner behind the counter when I have come in during lunch. I have to go at least once a week and it makes my office smell of deliciousness. I love that the cheesesteak actually has flavor - they dont need to distract with peppers - meet, cheese, bread = heaven. 8 bucks (no sizing like Tat's - you get a full sandwich) Keep up the awesome work and delicious good food.

Best Cheesesteaks on the West Coast *Period* I was born & raised in PA and I've yet to find an even remotely decent place that serves cheesesteaks since moving west almost 10 years ago. Sure, a lot of places use the word "cheesesteak" but at Calozzi's they really mean it. Keep up the great work guys!

Stopped here for lunch before a Sounders game, it was packed!! The guys working here are really quite friendly, and they really know their stuff when it comes to Cheese steaks. I grew up in Pennsylvania, so for me, a good cheese steak is extremely hard to come by in Seattle. I always tell people that the real cheese steaks have cheez whiz, so it's great to see that they serve it here! Please, if you've never experienced a real cheese steak, give them a try! You won't regret it. Also, note the portions are pretty large. I had no problem finishing mine off, but I'm a big eater.. you could easily split one between two people if you're both not very hungry.

I was heading to an M's game and looking to pick-up something tasty. After reading all the area reviews I was craving cheesesteaks. I went to both Tat's & Calozzi's and asked for a cheesesteak. "Give me what you would recommended -- to go." At Calozzi's we were served a cheese whiz covered beef missile. It looked like a mess upon unwrapping but ever so tasty. Very flavorful beef w/ lots of whiz and tiny grilled onions. The roll was softer than Tat's but still held up. The flavor was much like a cheeseburger. We were even taught how to order it - "WIZ, WIT" [no H sound] which means, cheese whiz with onions. Staying consistent, I give it 4 stars. Again it was really good but my socks were still on after eating. Having the privilege to try both places and compare cheesesteaks was pretty cool. It wasn't about which was best but getting to try two popular places I wouldn't have heard about had it not been for Yelp.

You can smell the steak as you walk up to callozzi but Cheese steak are ok. I would recommend the "RONI" that's actually has flavor. The steak is mix with a little bits of pepperoni to give flavor. The regular CHEESE STEAK ARE PRETTY BLAND. You either have to put salt hot sauce or sarachi on it to give it flavor. But the restaurant does smell AMAZING as walk by it.

I've never been to Philly and I'm definitely no cheese steak expert, but I'm a pretty big fan of Calozzi's. I've seen it on Yelp and on Thrillest and I work in the area and walk by all the time...I finally stopped in for lunch. I went with the regular ole' cheesesteak witout onion and wit cheezewhiz...and it was quite tasty. What I don't quite understand is why they insist on leaving the "h" out of with/without...to mimic the east coast accent? Whatever, just hand me a cheese steak and I'll stop thinking. Oh, and my raincoat smelled like this place for a week afterward - keep that in mind.

Great cheese steaks. Fast and friendly. I was not originally a big fan of philly cheese steaks, however this is one of my favorite spots now. They use real ingredients, real cheese, and the steak its self is to die for. One tip, they do get busy around lunch and is a small place, call it in or visit before or after rush.

You gotta be kiddin' me bro..... this has officially become my FAVORITE business in Seattle. Now, I know what you're saying. But Katy H, you have 730+ reviews! C'mon! But at least for the time being, I'm all about Calozzi's and I know I'll be on this bandwagon for as long as they'll let me. I'd heard great things about Calozzi's in recent months. Last week I was at Cafe Presse enjoying a cocktail and waiting for a friend when a complete stranger struck up a conversation with me. We talked booze and sandwiches. (The quickest way to my heart!) Anywho, he was SHOCKED I hadn't been to Calozzi's yet. Then the Weekly Yelp Newsletter mentioned Calozzi's as one of the cities best sandwich spots. The community has spoken! Today I was in Pioneer Square so I decided to pop in and finally see what all the fuss was about. (And as I write this my stomach is growling again!) Right upon walking in I got a big hello from the guys behind the counter. In their awesome Philly accents they point me in the direction of their 10 or so item menu and offer up some great suggestions. With some heavy competition in town it's nice to see that they don't try to make every sandwich under the sun. They know what they do best and stick to it. Of course I came for the cheesesteak but I did ask about the meatball and was offered a sample. (Holy sh*t! Getting that one next time.) Basically this is a family and friends hang out. Even on your first visit you're welcomed into the Calozzi family and these guys couldn't be any friendlier. Chatting with customers, making friends, talking about baseball, talking about taking their kids to school, staying at work till 4am, etc. It was fantastic! I felt right at home. Usually I tell people, "You eat the food, NOT the service." But here when both the food and the service are so outstanding, you can't help but fall in love with a place like Calozzi's. And did you hear about the pizza?? Yeah... just wait for it! I'm so stoked to see what these brothers do next!

All I can say is...watch out Paseo and Salumi..there is a NEW Pork Sandwich badboy in town...and its name is the Pork Italiano... Seriously there is some major flavors going on in this pork sandwich. Obviously there is the sauteed spinach in garlic, olive oil, and provolone cheese. But the pork loin is so tender, pulled/chopped/cut in extremely delicate bite sized pieces and jam packed with flavors. And unlike some of my other favorite pork sandwiches in the area. The bread is also nice and soft and easy to eat along with the meat and cheese, rather than the typical huge crusty chewy bread that makes your jaw/gums sore from being so difficult to eat. I am told the sandwich may make another appearance supposedly next Thursday (which I will be back for). Seriously, be on the lookout for when the Pork Italiano shows back up, I may not tell anyone when I get the official word as I don't want this thing selling out any faster :). But regardless, make your way over this is one delicious Sandwich. p.s. Note the Sandwich is $12 a little bit more expensive than the Cheesesteaks, but it's well worth the price.

Absolutely delicious philly cheese steak made to order .. and the owner is so friendly .. or I think he was the owner .. he was talking about how he opened a new location.. this location is great for the downtown lunch goers .. and it's pretty quick Forgot my friend didn't eat beef and brought her here .. they were nice enough to suggest her bring some food from other restaurants nearby .. they were so yummy that the roof of my mouth is still burned from their mushroom philly cheese steak can't wait to come back :)

I grew up right outside Philly and I can say this with confidence that Al makes a fully authentic Philly Cheesesteak that stands out here an Seattle and would stand out back in Philly!! From the cheesesteak wiz wit to the pepperoni cheesesteak you cannot go wrong!! Keep making those amazing sandwiches my brother!! Bring back the pork italiano!!

The sandwiches and staff are AMAZING! I came in at 5:53PM (they close at 6PM) and the owner and cook were so nice! I asked for two of the most popular sandwich and he cooked me two steak sandwiches with American cheese to go. Soooo yummy!!

I think it's more of a personal thing as I didn't know Chez wiz was the cheap nacho cheese kind of cheese. That was my real issue as I was dumb and didn't know. Their service was kinda rude too imo but with that said, it was a good cheesesteak. It was a good amount for a good price. Love the mushrooms and the meat. It was piping out that it basically killed my mouth(no joke). Definitely come if you're a local.

Where are all these good reviews coming from? Oh yeah, people who haven't ever had a real Philly steak. My fellow Eliter Ashley D puts it quite well. I wanted to love it, and wanted to feel like I was back in Philly. But it doesn't come anywhere near the mark. Okay, I'm going to be "that guy" that compares this to the real deal in Philly. I think that's fair. If you're calling your product something that has the name of the city in which it originated, it better be pretty close to being the real thing. I lived there for four years, and none will ever be its equal. The bread is really good. The bread part I would say definitely achieves a level that most other breads don't, even in Philly proper. A big gripe is the whole fancy "Philly ordering system" they try to push on you by saying "wit" or "witout" but you could say either one and the result will look the same. Where are my onions?? They really skimped on that. The cheese. I don't go for the wiz like a lot of other people and instead went for the provolone. I can tell that this is the cheap overly processed stuff that just becomes plastic after the faux-melting process has taken place. Disappointed. The meat, really is the star, and it really falls short. I dunno about where they source their meat from or what their seasoning or marinating process is, if any, but the favor is non-existent. Extremely bland. There's also a lot of grease, but not the "good" kind, just a puddle of watery oil, not the natural juices from the meat. It's been over a year since I had a steak, but I just didn't enjoy the sandwich at all. They were friendly, and the service was quick during off hours.. but I don't think I will be giving this place another chance. Sorry!

Cheesy and meaty goodness on a bun. Co-workers selected this spot for lunchtime and luckily, I decided to join them. +1 For the food +1 For the patience of the staff - the staff member calmly answered all questions when it seemed like everyone threw questions left and right -1 For the ambiance - the clang of the cooking utensils can become unnerving +1 For the cooking staff - if the cooks can deal with the constant noise, props to them Cheesesteak of my choice: The Donnie wit Fried Onions and Cheese Whiz My cheesesteak sandwich was a great flavor combination. The cheesiness of the Whiz and the meat was not chewy at all. The fried onions and mushrooms appeared to be lost in the cheese. I'm pretty sure I said wit fried onions and the mushrooms should be in there because it's the Donnie...my only reassurance was when I saw a little piece of onion and a somewhat mushroom-looking bit appear in between the bites of yumminess. It's a messy sandwich, still possible to eat with your hands though, if you strategically eat some of the steak with your spork beforehand. Calozzi's uses olive in when preparing, there is a "dry" option if you want to play it safe. If it's you're first time though, I suggest getting a cheesesteak the way it's meant to be, with olive oil. If someone highly suggests to get American cheese because you still get the cheesy flavor without being overwhelmed with the Whiz status, do not heed! Get the Whiz. I got with Whiz and my coworkers, although were satisfied with their steaks, still admired my own.

Was in the mood of cheesesteak and I heard about this place!! Regrettably did not try any of the cooler steaks with mushroom or pepperoni, but sometimes plain and simple is good. I absolutely loved how meaty and cheesy it was! Yes to the Whiz cheese!! This is hearty brother loved steak! But however, I must say that I felt the meat to be a bit bland and drier than usual. Could've been just that day, or being a native east coaster, I just like my phillies a certain way (or just much saucier). Service was fast-ish, it was lunch time and I guess for the rush hour it was in, it wasn't too bad of a wait time.

Calozzi's is good, not great in my opinion. Is it my favorite sandwich in Seattle? No, certainly not. But when I find myself looking to switch it up from Paseo and/or Salumi (it does happen, albeit rarely), Calozzi's isn't a bad choice. I think the meat is alright. It's flavorful, but not THAT flavorful and it's missing that "je nais se quoi". Which brings me to my next point: you absolutely have to get it "wit whiz". Cheese whiz on a sandwich may sound a little weird, but it is an absolute must. There is the option to get it without cheese and onions, but I feel like that would set you up for an immense failure. The cheese whiz does make the sandwich super messy (make sure you grab a spork on your way out so you don't have to eat the fallout with your hands, you heathen). The bread is pretty good though. I feel like the cut they make in the roll could be a little deeper in order to prevent the innards from falling into your lap. The people who work there are friendly. They saw that we hadn't finished our sandwiches as we were leaving and they kindly asked us if we wanted a bag to help carry it out, which I really appreciated. It's the little things, you know? All things considered, not too shabby. A-OK, if you will. I'm not clamoring to come back, but I wouldn't actively avoid it if I found myself in the area around lunch time.

Day 2 of #YelpGameProper and my buddy Dexter and I decided to get cheese steaks for lunch. I would've ordered a regular steak but couldn't rests ordering the Pizza Steak. Plenty of meat and cheese (I ordered mine w/ mozzarella) Also tastes great w/ mustard!!

This was my first time eating here, and it'll be my last. A group of us walked in and were the only ones there. Right when we walked in I noticed a huge mound of already cooked meat warming on the side of the flat top. I thought it was kind of weird, but nothing that would put me off. Maybe it was for the lunch rush?!? I got the regular cheesesteak with onions and provolone, and was very excited. The Tat's food truck line was way too long, but was happy that we had an alternative. I got it to go, and took it back to my office to eat. Back at the office I noticed the paper bag the cheesesteak was wrapped up in was soaked in grease. I didn't really think much of it ... I mean come on, it IS a cheesesteak, and good cheesesteaks can be messy. I was most disappointed though when I started eating it. This was not a good cheesesteak. The sandwich had no flavor, other than grease. Seriously, it tasted like old, greasy nothing. The bread was nice and soft, but didn't add any flavor. The cheese was not visible ... maybe it was on the side or something, but it wasn't on top. With tip I paid about $12 ... and sadly I wouldn't pay half that for one again.

I visited Seattle for the first time recently. Loved exploring this great city. I stopped in to Calozzi's for cheesesteak sandwich. It was so good I went back the next day!!! Al & his team were very helpful & professional. I'll definitely go back the next time I'm in Seattle.

Date of service: Nov 4, 2014 Meal: Lunch, dine out All Ratings out of 10: Quality of food: 8 Food to Spend Value: 7 Quality of Service: 8 Overall Rating: 8 Lots of places claim to make Philly cheesesteaks, but only a few of them actually make them well. Calozzi's is one of those places, and they make them really really well. If you are looking for a hot Philly Cheesesteak sandwich in downtown Seattle, then you should find yourself at Calozzi's and quickly. The menu here is lean on purpose (though the sandwiches are quite the opposite!). Most of the sandwiches come with steak, though they also do a version with Salumi pepperoni (which I have not tried). My go to (and what I ordered this go round) was a Donnie Pepper Mozzi Wit. The Donnie is steak and mushrooms. They have a pepper steak that has steak and peppers, but since I like both, I always just order a Donnie with peppers. You have 4 cheese options, but I tend to go with Mozzarella (which is heresy in some Philly cheese circles), though I occasionally get the gooiness known as Whiz. The "Wit" refers to with or without onions. The Donnie Pepper Mozzi Wit I find quite flavorful and very filling, and I prefer the mushrooms / peppers combo over either by itself. When I get Whiz instead of Mozzerella, it is a much messier gooier sandwich, but it is still absolutely delicious. The sandwiches can be a bit greasy, but they use olive oil for everything, so it isn't as bad for you as one might expect. The prices are reasonable, and the sandwiches themselves are very filling. When they do get busy in the midst of the lunch rush the sandwiches can back up a bit, so going a bit before 12 or after 12:30 will likely reduce any wait time. The inside is small and can get noisy due to the grill, but there is outside seating when the weather permits. The owner shows up a lot, and the staff is always pleasant and personable. The food is made to order and is super hot and steamy when it you get it, and boy does it taste good! This place is the real deal, and you owe it to yourself to try it out.

I don't know much about the history on cheesesteaks (what's authentic vs not), but I thought this restaurants' sandwiches were way too greasy, hard to eat, and ... well.... greasy. Definitely yummy but certainly a gut bomb. I am glad I tried it, but I couldn't eat this every day... in fact I probably wouldn't want to eat this more than once a month. Cheese Whiz also - wasn't really my thing. I can see why some would like it though. I tried this location as well as the previous one in Pioneer Sq (which closed down). I am glad they cleaned up and moved. Old location seemed.. sort of unsanitary. New location is clean - although it has way less seating available. They accept credit cards!

I stopped by this place for a quick lunch just after the lunch rush. The service was extremely quick and very friendly. I ordered the Donnie "wit" onions and cheese whiz. Sadly for me, I've only grown up with those standard-fare cheesesteaks with lettuce, tomato, mayo, and hardly enough meat. Calozzi was nothing like that. There was at least twice as much meat as bread; despite being packed into the sandwich, there was so much meat that literally half of it fell of the sandwich the moment I picked it up! It's always a welcome satisfaction when I have to get a spoon to literally eat the meat salad left on the wrapper. I heard cheese whiz is the cheese of choice for cheesesteaks, and boy, was I pleasantly surprised. The rivers of molten cheese coated the slices of meat in a liquid lava of salty goodness. The cheese whiz provided the meat with the juiciness that it needed. My only gripe was that towards the "inside" of the sandwich--the wedge of the hoagie--the meat was a little dry. Perhaps this can be easily fixed by applying a little layer of cheese whiz on the bread itself. Altogether, this meal was scrumptious and worth all the (concealed and plentiful) farts that plagued the rest of my day in the office. For those who are concerned with their waistline, be wary! Calozzi's definitely does not skimp out on flavor, and it is entirely true that fat equals flavor.

As far as I can tell this is as close to an actual Philly Cheesesteak you can get in the greater Seattle area. The bread was soft, yet strong enough to hold up to the ooey-gooey Whiz and dripping, moist steak. Next time I'm going white american cheese and Whiz, if they will let me. A solid meal in itself I'd skip the sides and focus solely on devouring your artery busting sandwich. Surprisingly this sandwich was good to my body and I didn't feel any lasting discomfort despite its heavy nature.

Nothing exceptionally good about the place. My expectations were high since it had many reviews with high ratings. I had the mushroom cheesesteak sandwich. It could definitely use more cheese and mushrooms to add taste. Grilled onions are optional and it was also not given enough. However, it sure does give you enough to meat if that's what you are looking for. The bread was nice and soft for a bread used for sub sandwich.

Uneedaphilly?!?!?! Since I was a kid watching The Fresh Prince of Bel Air was my show with my boy Will Smith. There was one episode that made Phat Lil Chau have a #foodiecrush. The one where the Philly Cheese steak first appeared. Ever since then I have been a fan of Philly Cheese steaks. I have been to Pats and Geneos in Philly and have done the 5lb Philly Cheesesteak challenge and completed it. Go to Calozzi's it's the best place to get a friggin Philly in Seattle. Al the Owner of Calozzi is from Philly and brings that Meat and Wizz on a bun wit him. The bread is soft but holds all the meat and wiz in there so you get the perfect bite each time. I normally get Wizz and Provolone cheeses to have the best of both worlds and it pairs so good with the meat. I have no idea what they use to season the meat but it is supa flava flav!!!

This is a review of lunch with my brother at Calozzi's. tinyurl.com/lmp329g The staff was very friendly. The service was quick. The ambiance is basic and functional. The restaurant was clean. They have outside seating and, since it was a sunny day, we took advantage of that. tinyurl.com/k5w9xq6 The food was great. The sandwiches were just what I would expect from a Philly. The meat was hot. The cheese was melty. My spell-checker says melty is not a word. I say it is. The roll was soft but held together. The onions were there but didn't get in the way. It was messy but in the right way. I went for the whiz. My brother went for the provolone. Of course, mine was better but they both worked. These are the kind of sandwiches that leave you filled up. Whiz tinyurl.com/mclq9hn Provolone tinyurl.com/k5qmrka With drinks and a bag of chips, the two sandwiches came in just a spot over an Andy J. Overall - If you are in Seattle and you want a Philly, you can't go wrong with Calozzi's. Go Phillies!!!!

Star rating is actually a 3.5. The cheesesteak was good, but I ordered the cheesesteak with mushrooms and upon taking the first bite, I knew. I knew that the mushrooms were not fresh and were canned. There is something about canned mushrooms that are very distinctive and obvious upon consumption. You can taste that they were soaked in some kind of water vinegar mixtures in order to preserve them in a can. They also have this artificial texture to it. That being said, my cheesesteak with whiz was ruined. And it was kind of sad. The hubby on the other hand had the cheesesteak with sweet peppers and it was amazing! It had a great balance of flavor. Ate it on the plane on our way home, and we for sure stunk up the entire plane, oh well! The cheesesteaks are huge and are densely packed with meat and cheese. I think one sandwich is enough to share unless you're REALLY hungry.

I had high hopes for this place, but alas, maybe a bit too high. Now don't get me wrong, the food was good, but I was definitely not wowed. Okay, so the guys behind the counter were friendly and helpful and the portions were generous. I got the cheesesteak with onions. I guess I was possibly hoping for more flavor, but was disappointed. I think I will go back again to try one with the bell peppers in it, but for this visit, I was underwhelmed by lack of flavor! But the thing that REALLY got me was how incredibly oily it was. I needed about a dozen napkins to get through it. Frankly the oil really grossed me out, and was a total turnoff for the whole meal. You pay $10+ for a sandwich, that thing had better walk on water. Well, it certainly swam in grease. This was a very average experience, but overall pretty disappointed. I've never been to Philly to have a "real" cheesesteak, but if this is it, I'll skip the trip to Philly, well except to see Independence Hall....

In the midst of all the things going on Downtown, this place is somewhat of a hidden gem. I came across it while looking for a new lunch destination for my co-worker & I, and I must admit that we were both pleasantly surprised. We were serviced right away as it wasn't too busy for visiting right in the peak of the lunch rush. The food was delivered fast, hot, and fresh (what more can you ask for?) I typically try to stay as authentic as possible when ordering from new places for the first time, so I rolled with the Steak Sandwich "Wit Whiz" (A traditional philly cheesesteak sandwich with cheese whiz and onions), which turned out to be a good decision. Although messy, the sandwich was delicious to the very last bite. Safe to say, I'll be back.

Stopped in while on our vacation from Palm Springs. Wow!! I felt like I was in Philly!! So authentic!! I ordered the "Donny" peppers, American "wit". My hubby ordered the original wiz "wit". This place is a must!! Right in the heart of downtown Seattle!

I've also wanted to try this place, so I did since I was in the area. I really like the cheese steaks in the south end, but I can't seem to find a good place in the north. I called in my order for a pepper cheesesteak and they told me it would be ready in 10 min, but they had it ready in 7, which was great. They put A LOT of meat into these so if you don't get cheese whizz, which I don't, prepare for messy session. A lot of meat will fall out. I was a little disappointed because my sandwich wasn't spicy at all, which is not what I'm used to in a PEPPER steak. I also felt like it was dryer than what I'm used to as well. It wasn't bad, but not my first choice for a philly.

Pats and Jim's have missed their shot at west coast domination..... I ordered my provi-with as the first customer of the day at 11.45.. within 8 minutes i was scarfing down a bite of home.... three time zones away.. in the pacific northwest on my lunchbreak i was transported back... back to the day... to a sloppy philadelphia nights of my youth.... all of which regardless of their twists and turns.. ended with a steak... a perfect warm and greasy mass of onions.. cheese.... bread... with shaved beef griddled out in the open.... and within another 8 minutes i was transported back to downtown seattle... its in the middle of the day.. and i am middle aged... and ordering a second steak...

We cater lunch in our office 3 times per week and when we throw a Calozzi's cheesesteak party, our team LOVES it! We order a variety of sandwiches (my personal fave is a cheesesteak with whiz and onions) and they never disappoint. Al delivers the food personally and hangs out during our lunch hour to make sure everyone gets what they need. Working with Calozzi's is easy and they go above and beyond with customer service! We will definitely keep this food in the rotation!!

A pretty solid rendition of one of America's great sandwiches. I just got a classic steak sandwich, wit(h) onions and provolone. The roll was not an Amoroso, I don't think, but it did the job just fine -- it held up against the onslaught of grease, and provided a bit of chewiness. The steak was chopped pretty finely, making it more tender, but also more liable to falling out of the sandwich. The sandwich was a little harder to eat than it needed to be, because the meat was more *on* the roll than *in* the roll. This could have been alleviated by wrapping each half in a separate piece of foil or wax paper. But that's nitpicking. Cheese (and cheese-like products) on offer are Whiz, provolone, American and mozzarella (probably for the pizza steak). Besides usual cheesesteak variations (mushroom, pepper, pizza), they also sell Salumi pepperoni sandwiches, and they have a weekly roast pork special (Thursdays, I think). They wisely resisted the urge to put a bunch of custom options or specialty sandwiches on the menu. Sandwich prices are in the $10 region, plus or minus $2. The dining experience is pretty no-frills. Hot peppers at the condiment bar. Beverages of the bottled soda/water variety. No plates or cutlery. (I don't know what you'd do with cutlery anyway.) No vegetarian options, that I know of. (They might sell you a plain roll to gnaw on, if you ask.) Basically, you just come in, get some meat, cheese and bread, and leave. Come hungry, leave greasy.

Gotta bring the flavor Usually The Yelp does not lead me astray. Before you haters start hating I just want you all to know what I have only lived in the suburbs of Portland, so it is very likely that I don't know what a real steak should taste like. However if you look at my reviews and my waistline, I have had my fair share of cheesesteaks. I got the Donnie (mushroom steak wit, and provolone). It was super bland. The textures were great though. Nice roll and well cooked quality steak, but very flavorless. There are people who like their steaks wet or dry. I prefer mine dry, but this was the perfect amount of wet. The last time I got a steak somewhere I didn't care for the wiz because it made it too salty. Perhaps wiz would have been a better choice here. Also, what's with the canned mushrooms? Unfortunately this is not the first time I've had an "Authentic" cheesesteak with canned mushrooms. Like I said, maybe I don't know any better. The service was excellent, very quick and friendly. I feel bad giving two stars, but I was really let down by the sandwich.

  • Adam C.

Pretty darn good cheesesteak. I prefer mine with some spicy peppers in them, which I found at the condiment bar after getting my sandwich. Unfortunately there was only one pepper left, so I couldn't really get a lot of spicy flavor in my sandwich. The other issue is that we went as a group and our very last guy got stuck in a separate batch of sandwiches so we had to wait about 10 minutes for him to get his while we all waited. Both of the shortcomings I think were just bad luck on my part, so I will return to try again.

Small little place with seating inside and out. Also the building has a cool roof deck you can enjoy on a nice day. Ordered the pepper steak and the meat was amazing. The bread was nothing special would be better if it was hand-made or a little bigger. Prices were decent, I would recommend.

Not sure what the hype about is here. The service was extremely quick but I did go before the lunch rush (I assume there is one based on number if reviews). I got the Donnie (mushrooms) wit Onions and cheese whiz. The meat was bland and tasted very plain. The only thing I think that saved it was the ultra processed salty whiz cheese topping. The bun was decent; soft where it should be and too not soggy but would get there with the amount of oil/grease there was had I waited any longer. There is inside and outside seating, which I suggest the the latter as it gets noisy and stuffy inside. Overall: Meh...there is nothing that stands out to me about this place. Not something I would go out of my way to try again. Tats in Pioneer Square is the better bet for cheesesteaks in downtown area.

In a world of Philly Cheesesteaks riddled with green peppers and liberal use of baguettes this makes me warm and fuzzy inside. I've been following them sense they were in Pioneer Square and have loved them ever since. Being able to talk about all the things we love and hate about our home time when first meeting them was amazing. Simply put, if you want a Cheesesteak that isn't that crap that you'd find at Geno's or Pat's (yes, they are a tourist trap, much like the Monorail) then you've come to the right place. Also ketchup is fine to put on your Cheesesteak #noshameinyourgame

So, I heard about this place in facebook, typed in best restaurants in Seattle in yelp and Calozzi's popped up so I said before I leave Seattle and head back to NYC I need to try this cheesesteak. Three hours before the flight, dropped by and ordered three sandwiches with mushrooms. Best decision I've made today! This stuffs addictive. The meats really juicy and the flavor of the onions and cheese just creates mouth watering goodness. The cheesesteaks are huge so they will definitely fill you up. I'd like to go back the next time I visit Seattle and try more of their flavors, including the cheese whiz one. Shout out to the staff and Jennifer, they were awesome. Bookmarked.

Best cheesesteak I have had outside of Philly. Awesome place to grab a sandwich while downtown or do like we did and seek it out from where ever you are. Service was great and the guys making the food very friendly. I will definitely be going back when I return to Seattle

It's a really average cheese steak sandwich. You can get better tastier things downtown.

My review is based on two things; the customer service and the actual cheesesteak. As a first time customer, the guy was so rude and acted like we were bothering him, however, we were there for the cheesesteak. All I can say is gross. They didn't use real cheese. It's like imitation cheese they serve with chips. To make it worse, he cooked the twisty tie (came from the plastic bag) inside the cheesesteak. Not sure why the reviews are so high? It's not a good representation of a true cheesesteak. More like an imitation cheesesteak. Pass for me.

I heard about this place now for one year and I decided to go there for lunch when I walked in it was not very busy so they waited on me right away I found the cheesesteak to be extremely greasy and I have had so many better subs at other restaurants/sub shops If you are really hungry and can enjoy or something greasy and go there if you're really looking for a decent pioneer Square Tats! I decided to stroll on down to this new spot near the mushroom tower (Rainier Square). Very sharp, clean and modest lunch joint! I took a Donnie and it was just ok. The labor product itself looked good but didn't quite taste as such. Subtly bland and I couldn't really taste the cheese, if it wasn't already melted away. For the grease bombs, it wasn't drenched but I also don't mind wet wonders that use olive oil (thinking about bruschetta...). Also, the chop-clang-dang-bang-pang-ting of the cook spachula is _so_ loud... I'm not sure I've heard that loud before or if it's normal for good mincing. Sounds like I missed out on the old location.

The best sandwiches come from the greatest factory cities, and Philadelphia (the Workshop of the World) has its share. But none are more famous than the almighty cheesesteak: thinly sliced meat quick-cooked and served on a roll, with Cheez Whiz or slices of American or provolone. Onions are optional, but a proper cheesesteak comes with fried or roasted long-hots: long green peppers common in the kitchen gardens of South Philly. Calozzi's Cheesesteaks tries to stay true to this version of Philly's famous sandwich. This is closest to a real Philly Cheesesteak in Seatte you will ever get outside PA but with a PNW slant to it. Ask a group of Philadelphians where to get the best cheesesteak and you'll be lucky if you get anything close to a consensus. Everyone's got their own spot, and their own favorite combination of meat (steak, chicken, roast pork), cheese (provolone, American, cheddar, pepper jack, etc.) and veggies (with or without). For me, Calozzi's Cheesesteaks has the distinction of being the original or at least close to it, and they've got the lexicon down to a science: order "with" (pronounced "wit") for onions, and "Whiz" for the goopy orange cheese topping that many Philadelphians prefer.

If you don't mind grease it's so tender and delicious. I've been hearing about this place for months so finally tried it and it is definitely worth the price. Large portion and nice diner vibe. The only thing I wish they had were fresh cut fries, but I'll be back because that cheesesteak is so good!

First item purchased on our Seattle trip! We ordered a steak sandwich with onions and provolone to go. We walked to the end of Union (by the Four Seasons) to eat it and enjoy the sunshine. A bit oily, luckily it is wrapped in foil and then wax paper so the dripping oil was easy to avoid. The sandwich: soft roll, toasty warm and very thinly sliced steak, plus melted cheese. Very filling for two to share on the way to Pikes Place Market for more nibbles. The sandwich is smaller than I remember from 3-4 years ago, but I still enjoyed it!

They have raised their prices by quite a bit since they first opened (way overpriced now in my opinion). Still the same bland meat, almost identical to steak ums meat from walmart. you don't taste the onions at all. no real flavor to the meat. And the cheese wiz omfg talk about food coma after eating this sandwich. I won't be back. It's all hype about this place. "the philly cheesesteak" is nothing but a gut bomb. A heart attack in the form of a sandwich with all the grease, and overpriced. They can't even put it in a bag where the grease won't soak thru! I had to put it on the floor of my Porsche because it would have ruined the leather! Bottom line: Tat's makes a much better sandwich. Or if you want all the cheese in seattle, you are better off with a nice slice of pizza. Don't fool yourselves people, all you taste at Callozi's is grease and cheese. the bread is gross being so soaked in grease. The meat is low quality filler, probably steak ums, you will never know being drowned out by the grease and cheese. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR HEALTH.

I've been here plenty of times and like their cheesesteak. Today, after getting the sandwich at the counter, I went to get some packets of mayonnaise to take back to the office and there weren't any. I asked the cash register guy if he had some and he said they were out and that the owner never buys things until they've run out first. Really? Hmmm. So then I unwrapped my sandwich and grabbed the big bottle of mayo for eat-in customers. Guess what, empty. I asked if they had anymore of that and got the same response of no along with "the owner is really weird about stuff like that." Whatever. I like my phillys with Mayo and I can't believe a place like this would just run out and make it sound like it happens all the time. It wasn't even that late in the day, 1:15 PM. Probably won't go back. It's kind of an expensive sandwich, and without mayo it's just not enjoyable to me. But the weirdest thing was all the commentary about the mayonnaise. It would have been just fine to tell me before I orderred "Hey, I'm really sorry, but we ran out of mayo today."

Wow what an amazing restaurant in Seattle. It is a hidden gem and only the foodies tend to know about it. I have had tats cheesesteaks which are good and a great place before a game but here the cheesesteaks are better. The owner is the real deal and can frequently be found taking orders at his stores. He started this business out of food carts around Seattle and was so successful he now owns two brick and mortar locations. The cheese steak is delicious, several different types of cheese and addins like onions mushrooms or peppers. Of course they also have the traditional cheese wiz which is the real way to do it. This is the place for an authentic Philly cheese steak in Seattle!

Having been to philly several times I can say with complete honesty that this places idea of a philly cheese has the right thought but horrible execution. The lack of flavor is just sad. as for the amount of oil it's enough to make a someone use to southern food cringe.

Al Calozzi's Cheesesteaks. Ditto, ditto, ditto. I am speechless. Magnificent Roni Cheesesteak. I had grilled onions, provolone and whiz. Easily one of the best cheesesteak sandwiches I have had. Great cheesesteak, I normally give my business to Philadelphia Fevre, but I think I'm sold on this place now!!!!! The meat is better quality than every other cheesesteak place in Seattle and the roll was outstanding too, and the owner is a really cool guy! I highly recommend this place!

Surprise, surprise! I have found them downtown at the Rainier Square building off 4th Ave. I was on my way to Westlake for lunch when I saw the Calozzi's neon sign and I quickly hopped off the bus at Union & University (Thank you, Sound Transit 545!). My pizza steak still had the same great taste when the business was in Pioneer Square. They're in a pretty good location since it's in the financial district. I went after 1 pm and the line wasn't too bad. I bet the line at noon is rediculous.

lunch food: the philly cheesesteak. it looks small but it will definitely fill you up. i think this one is a tad dry, but the flavors are awesome. i chose the provolone cheese and i think it might be too mild for the sandwich. definitely going to try to cheese wiz ones next time. i took a bite of the pepper steak one and that is much better in my opinion. its more moist. overall its a messy sandwich so get your forks and napkins ready. ***4/5 service: the people are nice. the guy took our order and chatted for a bit before we go. it's an order and pick up. ***4/5 ambiance: its a small place. inside might fit about 10 people. but there are some outdoor seating as well. might only be good for the summer though. ***4/5 value: it fills you up and it was good food. i probably order something else though just to try everything. ***4/5

Wiz Wit, this place is as close to philly as you can get. Perfectly cooked sirloin and the oh so important bread is perfection. Bonus points for having Sriracha on site to add a kick! Great service is icing on the cake. If only they were open on Sunday when my usual craving for grease is at a max.

I've had tons better in Philly and SF. Terrible bread, stupidly hot ingredients (never had a Philly Cheesesteak burn my tongue and hand). I was very unimpressed and definitely recommend you eat elsewhere. Quite flavorless (I got their standard with mozarrella, not cheese whiz). Recommend you avoid them, sadly. It should not be hard to season meat properly on a grill. Philly Fevre, while not outstanding, was much better IMO.

It was ok...nothing that blew me away. For the price, I would think they would add mushrooms and more toppings for you. Maybe I ordered wrong :/

I get off my first bus here everyday and this place always smells delicious. So I got a sandwich. It was as good as anything I've ever eaten... except for an exceptional lobster bisque in 1992 and fresh Oly oyster shooters. The people were very nice, making me think they might not really be Philadelphians but they make the best cheesesteak sandwich I've ever tasted. Yes I have eaten them there. That whole town is overrated. You are all so lucky you weren't on my second bus.

Great price! Awesome cheese steak sandwich but got a little bit of cheese and oil overdose after eating half of one of the best cheese steak sandwiches period. You might want to have something else and have the sandwich for two meals. It's so good but it becomes a little too much to handle once you finish half of it.. But excellent place! :)

Not bad, but I prefer Tats if you don't mind the line. This place went a little heavy on the sauce.

True east coast bliss. I've tried so many places and this one hits the mark. With the exception of a little place by Umass Amherst this place has the best REAL cheesesteak in the PNW so far. Big Mikes in LA is damn good too but the gent running this show puts it over the top - great dude.

  • Bryce I.

All those reviews can't really be for this, can they? The meat is not of any real quality, and the $9 cheesesteak, while large, doesn't have any flavor to speak of. Not from the meat, the onions or American cheese. Nothing. It's just a big hunk of meh. This sandwich was worth half of what it cost.

Ive been looking for a place in Seattle for 4 years to get a good cheese steak for my husband who is a Philly native, this place finally delivered! Friendly staff, typical looking cheese steak place. The food was greasy, large portions and cooked just like Philly!!! Thumbs up!

  • Sean R.

Loved the hole in the wall decor. My whiz wit was delightfully greasy. Good price, loaded with meat. Whiz fries where served in a paper bag. It adds a nice touch. Couldn't ask for anything more for drunk food.

Great food! Freshly made, piping hot cheesesteaks! It's a limited menu, but they do it right! The owner is very friendly and attentive. Fun stop for quick, tasty food! (Note: the portions are so big that you could probably share a sandwich and get fries on the side - depending on your hunger levels and how much you usually eat.)

I came here after working a Mariners game one night. My feet were tired and I was hungry. This was "the" perfect place to land. I walked into this small corner of a restaurant that had larger than life personalities behind the counter. The guys had these great accents, and you instantly feel like you're part of their eastcoast family. My cheesesteak was made to perfection and was large enough for two people. However, it tasted SO good, I forced myself to finish it. I had no regrets. Loved this place.

At first when my co-workers suggested walking to this place for lunch I didn't want to go because it was kinda far but after going I will say it was soooo worth the walk, and after eating their HUGE cheesesteak, the Donnie specifically, the walk back was much needed! The people running the place were awesome! They even gave us a free sampling of their pizza they are about to put on the menu which was amazing. My only regret is not having a bigger stomach so I could actually finish the whole thing...I will so be back.

Great Philly Cheesesteak. It was very authentic.

    (5)
  • Daryl A.

The cheesesteak I had was very good. There were a couple of elements that I thought were missing (sweet and hot peppers), but really that's my own personal preference...not their fault. The beef was beefy, the service was prompt, and the owners were friendly. This place is definitely worth a shot. It's no secret that they have a big competitor right around the corner. I'm sure people will have a preference between the two, but the cheesesteak at Calozzi's is at the very least up to the challlenge of its rival. I think I need to try some of their different sandwiches to really pass a firmer judgment.

    (4)
  • Richard J.

An average Philly Cheese Steak sandwich, and a bit pricey. My biggest complaint is that they do not have hot peppers available to cook in the sandwiches for those who prefer those. The red peppers they do offer are mostly devoid of flavor.

omg. very. good. cheesesteak. consumed a massive cheesesteak "wit whiz!" amazing. drool. also love that they are open like ALL DAY practically (4am) they were open during the snowstorm and we were the only ones there. food was amazing!

with whiz please! awesome cheese steaks! they dice the meat and dice the onions then cook them together and then serve on a big bun. Plain and simple...just the way i like it. 2 cheese steaks for $16.

  • Hola A.

Short and simple, the philly cheesesteak sandwich is good. I got mine with provolone and fried onions. The guy who took and cooked my order was super friendly and nice. I will def come back again but this time, will try it with the whiz. Also, the sandwich is $8 and priced well due to the portion size (it's huge!).

FRESH PRINCE'S PHILLY CHEESE STEAK shit so greasy, that it almost ripped my friend's bag/wrapper. after me and the guys got off worked around 2AM. i told them yo, there's a philly cheese steak spot that opens late and we should check it out. of course this place was next to trinity and as we walked in i was laughing. some drunk girl was passed out on the table for a good 30 minutes and i'm like damn, that must be some good ass philly cheese steak. so i ordered some steak philly or something. as i waited, i was preparing some secret philly seasoning that they had in the counter, some garlic + salt, some hot seasoning sauce, etc. the orders however, took forever...me and my friend got our orders before our other 2 friends who had ordered before us. then they had to tell them, yo where's my order etc. and they started making it. i know it's like 2AM and yall are pretty tired, but hey we do the same order/number system, but please keep it together! my friends don't like the drunk clubbers environment at night, so i'm going to miss this place every saturday late night

Got a craving for a cheesesteak sandwich? Forget the other places and just head down to Calozzi's. This place absolutely does it right. The Wiz, the onions, the perfect blend of ingredients, all served up by super friendly guys giving out the most relevant advice ever: "You enjoy 'da hell outta dat sandwich!"

Although I hate doing this, once again I have been failed... You know that sick feeling you get after eating all the processed meat at McDonalds, but you keep doing it anyway because it really is a little tasty? I got the sick feeling, without the tasty part after eating at Calozzi's. Meat that had certainly been frozen and the soggy bun wet from what seemed to be thawing water (freezer burn?). I have to say it didn't seem worth the money, sorry... This is a newer food spot here downtown, and maybe they should leave the cooking to the professionals... I still feel a bit queasy. Also they seemed confrontational, asking me questions that seemed a little out of line. Sorry guys, but I won't be back.

..... wow ..... I even drive by when its closed just for the ?idea? of a cheese steak .... I have a fat soul don't judge me. Eat here on a regular basis. Tell your friends. Vacuum pack and send to random addresses during the holidays. Another foodie gem to make Seattle and Pioneer Square the best place to be.

This has to be one of the worst lunches I've had in the last two years. I ordered the steak whiz wit and fries. I wouldn't actually have bothered to write this review except I believe the 4+ star rating that yelp is showing is completely off base. To start with the only flavor on the sandwich was whiz. No onion or steak flavor made it past the salt and grease. The bread was nothing special and completely soggy after a few minutes. It's a sad comment when my table-mate used the salted fries to cleanse his palette. Fries that were cooked in oil well past it's best by date. If this is what reminds ex-pats of philly and home I'll pass on ever going there.

I really wanted to love it. I walked in and was immediately greeted and felt like I was back in Philly, which gave me high hopes that this would be a great Philly cheesesteak. After I got my Philly cheesesteak it looked delicious and I had high expectations, that sadly were only partially filled. The bread = perfect. I haven't found any other place in WA that has the right bread. The meat was pretty good too. However, I found that important parts of it were extremely lacking such as very few grilled onions that were chopped up very finely which meant that I was not able to even tell that there were onions in it. Personally, the grilled onions are one of the best parts so this was extremely disappointing for me. Also, it seemed very dry and I was hoping the cheese would help in that department but sadly it did not. I was hopeful due to all the great reviews but we pretty disappointed at the end of the day =/

The whole time I was in this place enjoying my out-of-this-world cheese steak, I was crafting in my mind the epic yelp review I was sure to make when I got back to the office. Well upon getting back in a blissfull sandwich-enduced haze and reading what all the other 5-star reviews have said, I feel a long drown-out review would simply be one more thing you would have to read, thus keeping you from the miracle that is Calozzi's cheese steaks for another precious few moments. Please, if you know what's good for you, just GO.

I'm gonna give this place 3 stars. My meat-lovin' friends swear by this place, but it was pretty freakin' dirty. Maybe I should say "messy." If you enjoy Velveeta all over your fingers, the table (guess they don't always clean up after their customers, no matter HOW slow it is), etc., then get down here.

  • Dan R.

I have to say that this is one of the best cheesesteaks I've had. I'm not from Philly, so I don't have a whole lot to compare it to, but I can't imagine it getting much better. I had the cheesesteak WIT & whiz and othey didn't skimp on the whiz. The bread was hearty and it held the sandwich really well. I love Tat's. This is better.

    (5)
  • Josh H.

I don't know if the magic is in the location or what. This is definitely the best philly in town. BUT..... when tats was in this same location they used to be the best in town. Not that they don't make a good cheesesteak, but Calozzi's.... That's what cheesesteak in seattle should taste like. Wit whiz or wit whatever hands down best philly in town.

I moved here from the east coast in 2006, and I haven't felt more at home since. I could be wrong but I think they're from NYC. On the east coast philly cheese steaks vary the ones I ate in pittsburgh were different then these and these are different than my aunts had in philly. I love these guys and the atmosphere the store has. I first found it when I was volunteering at a photography storefront for the summer and fell in love. I dooo wish to make it in more often tho. Deffinatley worth the trip. And wiz fries? I almost died came back died again and then went to heaven.

I agree with the others, it is the best Cheesesteak in Seattle. The owners are super friendly and always check up on you to make sure the sandwich is tasty. It a good small menu. You got 3 cheeses to choose from for the standard Philly (Whiz, Mozzarella, & Provolone) They also have a couple of other traditional Philly style sandwiches such as the Pizza Philly and the Peppersteak. It's also never as crowded as the other Philly option nearby which makes the lunchtime dining experience all the better.

Im not sure what I just ordered. If you want a Sandwich that will literally make you smell like cured meats for HOURS then this is for you!! The grease was so abundant that it pooled up and flowed off my plate (a piece of wax paper) onto the table, looking oh so appealing. I decided to give this shop a try over the infamous Tats, only to be amazingly let down, and when I informed the worker of how gross I found their food they responded with, " Sorry you didn't like it. " So if your idea of a good cheesesteak is a grease bomb that literally makes you sick to your stomach, then this is the spot. First and last time I will be visiting Calozzi's.

Amazing Cheesesteak!! Open late at night, great food and the best service. I had the basic Cheesesteak and the "Wiz Fries" ... Came back 3 nights in a row while on a business trip. Al runs a great place here... I can't recommend enough.

I'm always looking for new sandwich places and this one thankfully popped up. Decided to take my mom here the other day and am very thankful I did. Ordered the classic whiz wit and mom got the pizza steak. Both were delicious and full of meaty goodness. My mom couldn't finish hers so I took home the left overs, I was worried that the bread might be a little soggy later on but was pleasantly surprised when I went to eat it. It was a tad soggy but it didn't matter because it was still so dang good. Will definitely be going back!

Located in the heart of Pioneer Square between Trinity Nightclub and Last Supper Club, this is a perfect spot to visit whether you are out partying for the night in the square, or heading to a sporting event at one of the stadiums down the street. The sandwiches are piled high with meat, cheese, grilled onions, and other assorted toppings like mushrooms or peppers can be added as well. One sandwich and a bag of cheese fries is a good sized meal for two people or one very hungry person. I have never been to Philadelphia so I don't know what an authentic Philly cheese steak would be although I'm also not real worried about making that type of comparison. The bottom line, is these are good sandwiches and you get great value for your money. On top of that, the guys running the place truly care about every person that walks in the door. The atmosphere is a no frills, here we are, just enjoy the food type of place and is always clean looking and well kept. Most people that I know who visit Pioneer Square on a regular basis have made this a repeat destination, but it is also worth heading downtown just to check out a great addition to the local sandwich scene.

REVIEWER DISCLAIMER: I'm going to break my personal ban on the word epic because I can't think of a word that better describes this place. If I could give them 4.5 stars I'd do it without any hesitation or remorse. This place always hits the spot after a night on the town, or after a 'Hawks game. To be fair, this place might just hit the spot after a funeral, but I haven't tested that theory yet, so I suppose that's a good thing for my soul, but bad for my stomach. Steve and Al ALWAYS remember their customers and couldn't be more friendly. I really can't state enough how much you need to seek out this Pioneer Square gem. If you can't find it, just look for the sea of humanity with that glazed over "I can't believe how good this is" look, and you're be heading in the right direction. I'm already looking forward to my next Philly...

Done and Done! Was on my list of places to try. Read many great reviews. Finally got er dun today. Had to get the classic Wit Wiz. The sandwhich was pretty huge. I wasn't sure I could finish it after I made it through halfway. But like on man vs food. Man won today. As my friend Duane would put it "amazingballs". I won't choose sides. Both Calozzi's and Tat's are pretty dayum good. I plan to make a trip back and get one of each and split em with a friend and see side by side which I prefer. Until then you can go wrong either place. Never hurts to have options! Where are the Tasty Cakes? lol

It's not Steve's, because Steve's is indeed the Prince of Steaks. That's literally the one thing I can fault Calozzi's on. Alright, it's not Jim's, either, but it's pretty damn close. A cheesesteak, whiz & wit, is about $10. It's better than most of the inferior cheesesteaks out there, whether in Pioneer Square or 9th and Passyunk. It's a big old sandwich for $10. $15 out the door for a one-meal-you-need-per-day kind of sandwich with a side, drink, and tax...and the change in the tip jar. Service is relentlessly pleasant and awesome. The line gets long and it moves fast, but if you wait to eat lunch at 2, you'll eat the one meal you need for the whole day AND beat the crowds.

The crew at Calozzi's loves cheesesteaks and people and their dedication to their customer shows. When walking in, I was greeted and even though their menu was simple, my options were explained to me. After ordering, I chose my place to eat and noticed how clean their interior was. While waiting for my food, I watched them make my cheesesteak and was impressed by how they took their time making my sandwich but were still fast. This is about as close to a genuine Philly cheesesteak as you can get. You want a "wiz wit"? They'll hook you up.

    (4)
  • Diane T.

I should start off by saying I'm not a cheesesteak connoisseur by any means, but I just found my sandwich here to just be ok. I'm thinking maybe I ordered the wrong cheese. Sound like the wiz is the way to go, and I went with provolone, but I found this to just be a greasy pile of meat on some stale white bread. It was actually so greasy that it was dripping onto my pants. Even with all the greasiness, my sandwich really lacked a lot of flavor. Maybe I'm just not a cheesesteak person, but for a 10 buck sandwich, I was definitely expecting more.

This place is the bomb. Nothing like a yummy Philly Cheesesteak after 2am on Friday night! SO glad they are alive in Pioneer Square!

I wasn't the best customer when I went there, but the workers were extremely nice regardless - thank you. BEST PHILLYS EVER. The portions are huge and taste so freaking good!!!! I hope this place lasts forever.

  • Rosie W.

Maybe not the THE BEST Philly cheesesteak I've ever had, but pretty damn good. The price is good. I paid $20 for 2 original cheesesteak and 2 drinks. The place is simple and the staff (I'm assuming they're the 2 brothers) were friendly and cool.

  • Tiffany d.

Best philly I've had in Seattle yet, the owner was super nice and his east coast accent helped seal the deal that these are as authentic as it gets (on the west coast) I did the pepper steak w/ cheese wiz and it was awesome, grease soaked bag and all!!!

I've read great things about this place and had to give a it a try in celebration of an awesome Sounders victory. Currently (Aug'11) they are doing some construction, but the kitchen is intact and the food was great. The bread - a soft hogie, lightly crispy but very airy, not much body, but it held up well. The meat was tender, I had it with chopped onions and provolone. Each bite just vaporized in my mouth, again not hard and chewy, and despite it's looks was light on the stomach. Very well done. The fries were my favorite, crinckle-cut with a nice seasoning on them. Came in a huge bag we could've taken with us. One of the owners gave us a quick construction tour and the space has a lot of potential. Good luck to them, Pioneer Square needs more places like this!

Calozzi's is the truth! This is how I expected a Phiilly cheesesteak sandwich to taste like. I ordered one with cheese whiz and another one with provolone. Although I do prefer the provolone one more, they are both bomb either way. I walked into this place and they had "A Tribe Called Quest" and east coast rap bumpin' in the shop, so I already knew this was my kinda spot. The owner/cook was very friendly (his east coast accent authenticated the place) and was very efficient in cooking the sandwiches. Definitely a "must-go" place to eat if you are in Seattle. Oh ya...they are also open til 4am on Friday and Saturday nights!!

It was pretty damn good. Reminds me of my days in Philly. Not many places around here that will serve a Philly with Wiz. Plus after my meal I was stuffed for hours. Well worth the money for a giant sandwich.

  • Bob H.

Whiz fries were AMAZING and it was not because it was 1AM. We had 'The Donny' which was really good BUT SUPER greasy! By the time we were done with the sandwich, the paper bag was soaked and our table so soaked in greasy. Good thing we split the sandwich. Flavors were good though

    (3)
  • Jarrod L.

Great bread, good steak. The Whiz:steak:onion ratio is perfect. Also, $9 for a 12" (at least) Pepper Steak is an awesome price ($8 without the peppers). Easily one of the 5 best cheesesteaks I've ever had.

This establishment is brimming with authenticity and generous portions. One Regular Philly Cheesesteak is enough to feed two people, an excellent value. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Seattle.

Have you ever had that dream where you are chasing something in the distance but you just can't catch up to it? You don't know what it is, but you know you want it really bad. Well I know what I am trying to catch, a Calozzi's Cheesesteak. I met Al about 4 years ago when you had to shout for him through an iron door joining the Belltown Bowling Alley. I traveled from Sacramento, and every time I came to Seattle, I had to get a cheesesteak. 4 years later, I am still going there every time I visit. Al loves what he does. He is very friendly and he translates that passion into his cheesesteaks. Calozzi's is soon going to be one of those places you have to go when you visit Seattle. It is not Philly, but Al has brought that East Coast flavor to the Pacific Northwest. Great steaks Al!

I am a native east coaster - and having tried multiple cheese steaks in the area Calozzi's is the best you can get. Recreating the classic is difficult - a cheese steak in philly just has something special about it, but Calozzi's is as close as I have seen outside philly. I thought veering away from the cheese steak here was a mistake but my boyfriend had the chicken sandwich (like a chicken parm) and the chicken was so moist, perfectly seasoned, marinated (for 24 hours!) and cooked to perfection. To top this place off - the folks there are so nice, providing great service with a smile and making you feel as though you have always known them. It has been a while since I have been to a place with such great service. Plus they were sure to ask our thoughts on the meal.

Closest thing to south jersey steaks that I've come across in Seattle (better than Tat's). Not sure if the rolls are Amoroso's or not, but who cares cause the steaks are fat and awesome. I'll take mine with onions and wiz, please. Workers are full on Jersey and super nice. Overall, hanging/eating here is like a quick trip back east.

I've been to Philly so I know what a cheesesteak is and this place does it well. They chop up the meat pretty good compared to ones I've tried so that was a little different. What I liked about this spot was their bread, soft and warm. I don't like tough bread. The people who own the place are from Philly and are hella cool. Also they told me they're open really late on weekends, until 3:30 am or something like that. Their menu is really simple, cheesesteaks, roast pork and something else. I will definitely be back.

It was my 25th birthday. My man and I were wondering thou the streets of Pioneer Square, waiting for my sister to get done with work. It's was reaching the lunch time and my tummy started growling. We turned a corner and it hit me like a mac truck. The smell of pure happiness. My Boo must have caught the same aroma because as I turned to look at him he blurted out " we HAVE to find where that smell is coming from!" So we did it the only way I could think of... we literally followed our noses. Turning each corner, winding back and forth through street, we spotted on the the sidewalk, a small, black, A-board with "Calozzi's Philly Cheese steaks " written on it. One more long sniff and I knew we had found it. We walked in and were immediately greeted by two men with deep, thick east-coast accents. " 'Ey! 'Ow ya guys doin'? Whatya havin' ta-day?" "Everything" is what my belly was prompting me to say. We got 2 cheese steaks with cheese whiz, an order of fries, and 2 colas. Everything is made-to-order so it takes about 10 mins. to get your grub. It was worth every second. The portions are large. The sandwiches where piping hot, the cheese was melty and the steak was cook to perfection. The one order of fries was large enough to split between us both and still have some left over. You can even get some pickled hot peppers to munch on or add to your sammie. This place is a gem tucked away on between Yesler and Washington.

I can't say I'm a connoisseur of cheesesteaks, but I am a fan of all things cheese and beef. I ordered a Donnie (steak and mushrooms) with onions and whiz, and it was the best cheesesteak I've ever had. Just an awesome sandwich in general. Only ate half because they're huge (great value). In addition, the guy who seemed to be running the show was funny and super nice. Definitely going to make this a must-go stop if I ever find myself in Seattle again.

I lived in Philly for 8 years and was excited to hear about this place...it was worth it. The guys are authentic and from Philly/South Jersey (I had to ask, having lived there for such a long time) - very friendly. You can tell they take this seriously and make you feel right at home. The cheesesteak was great - the bread made it - truly authentic - It reminded me of Philly when they would stack the empty bread boxes outside of the delis. You can't beat it - we will be back for sure. They said they are starting pizza and will definitely be back for it. Check it out if you haven't been there!

Calozzi's offers a dangerously cheesy and filling steak sandwich and very friendly service. If you're a philly fan I definitely recommend checking Calozzi's out, and if you haven't tried The Blue Heron (located in Magnolia), give them a visit as well.

First off, I want to make it clear that I loved the cheesesteak; I had the Donnie (mushroom steak) with whiz and wit onions. It was delicious. So were the cherry peppers. I had already finished the three peppers I initially got and was going back for more when I discovered with horror that there were huge FLIES swimming around in the cherry pepper jar. One was already dead, and another was swimming happily in and out of the juices and climbing on and off of the peppers. I almost lost my lunch after seeing this... I immediately let the staff know about this and they apologized and took the jar to the back - to throw away the remaining peppers I would suppose. But it was too late... I already ingested three of the peppers before I noticed the little ******s swimming in the jar. I'll come back again for the cheesesteaks, but I sure as hell won't be eating any more of their peppers.

Calozzi's makes the best sandwiches! I had their cheesesteak and Italian sandwiches and they off the chart in regards to flavor. I am going to try their meatball sandwich next which I have heard is incredible. Thanks for bringing great east coast food to Pioneer Square.

Addendum to my first review: I'm a regular here now, and the staff greets me by name when I walk in - gotta love that here in the city of passive-agressive, mind-your-own-business. I just have to add that the meatballs here are what I've been searching for since my Italian Aunt Nancy passed away. They are small and tender (hate those lumpy baseball-sized things that some places pass off as meatballs), with incredible flavor. Topped off with their home-made marinara (I've got to try some on the cheese steak as another reviewer has suggested), and it's an Italian party in your mouth. Good thing this place isn't closer to where I work, or I'd have to shop for a larger wardrobe. Beer and wine coming soon, too, as well as more seating on a second level.

Pretty good cheesesteak ... the skirt steak was chopped up the way it should be, and I had mine with Provolone .... I just wish it had a little more cheese dripping through to go with the meat, and possibly a little more onion.

They have a better cheesesteak than Tats yeah I said it. But that's about all that is on the menu. They are huge and well loaded. Go here if you just want a steak. That being said i wish they had a basket or a tray for their sandwiches and the interior leaves something to be desired I have sat outside every time but that won't be possible come October.

This is the real deal. The best cheese steak I have ever had... and I don't say that lightly. Normally I am completely indifferent to french fries, but there must have been something in the oil... I can't recommend this place highly enough.

I'm from Philly, so I'm picky as hell with my cheesesteaks. This place is the real deal - real Cheese Whiz and real east coast rolls. On top of that the owners are super friendly - definitely could tell they're from South Philly.

Cant say enough good things about this place. If you want the real thing without the real attitude, this is the place for you. No frills, just straight delicious food. So bummed they moved away from Belltown, but know I go see them for lunch instead of late night.

I really, really, want to like this place. About six months ago I saw a sign on the street indicating that they had opened in Tat's old location. I thought that was a savvy move - target the person looking for cheesesteaks unaware of the new Tat's location. Anyway, I didn't bite. A few days ago, I stumbled on an article in the Seattle Times about great sandwiches and someone mentioned Calozzi's. So, I figured I'd check out the review on Yelp. Wow! I was excited. So, the wife and I went over for lunch on Wednesday. First, I'll say that I am a cheesesteak guy. I'm not a whiz guy - yeah, it is authentic, no doubt, but I'm a provolone guy. I grew up in Philly. When I go home to visit my folks, my goal is to achieve a cheesesteak:days ratio greater than 1. That is, average at least a cheesesteak a day for the visit. I am a big fan of Steve's and Jim's but there are others I like as well. My wife is a semi-fan of the cheesesteak. Not her favorite sandwich, but she likes it okay. I'll also say that the guys at Calozzi's couldn't be nicer. They are hustling, trying to get a business going and are super friendly. I really want them to be successful. I love seeing young people hustling and starting businesses. But I don't get all the positive reviews. I'll start with the bread. It was semi-stale. Maybe, maybe, maybe if it was absolutely fresh it would have the right chew - that essential ingredient in a good Philly cheesesteak. So hard to get that Amoroso roll taste and feel. Maybe it was the real thing that had sat too long, but I'll take a very close substitute that is fresh over the real thing that is a little stale. The texture on the meat is good but the fat content is too high and leaves a bit of a greasy sandwich. If you do it "wit" (as my wife did), fuhgetaboutit. The onions leave an even greasier mess. The provolone though, is generous and melted properly. She would have given the sandwich one star - but mine was better than that but no better than 3 stars and only because the owners were so nice and genuine. The fries were costly but not overly so considering the size of the portion. They were cooked properly but I didn't particularly care for that style of french fries.

The cheese-stake sandwich was very good. The best part about eating there was the guys working there. They were super friendly, and they made you feel like you were their favorite customer. The price was good for what you get. The place is simple and no frills, but it is all about the sandwich and the service.

I finally stopped in to Calozzi's and had my socks knocked off. The bread for their cheese steaks are out of this world! The meat was cooked to perfection and topped with cheese and sri racha. YUMMY! This place has a home away from home vibe with great pics of the owner's. My favorite is the one of Flava Flave. If you haven't stopped in you don't know what you are missing. Great place that is open late on the busy club nights when you want something other than a hot dog. Two enthusiastic thumbs up.

I'm perhaps not a cheesteak expert; I may not be as critical as some. But! The steak-whiz-onions that I'm eating now is great. This place is as good as Tat's, but without the lines. (I wonder how long that'll last.)

A philly cheese steak sandwich is one of those foods where simple ingredients come together (when done properly) to make something extraordinary. The sum can be greater than the parts. Calozzi's executes this to perfection. I had the philly cheesesteak with grilled onions and provolone. The bread was perfectly crisp and chewy on the outside and soft on the inside. The inside of the sandwich was filled with a ridiculously generous portion of juicy thin sliced/shredded steak, onions, and creamy melted provolone. My only complaint would be that the meat was a little undersalted/seasoned. But I think they are trying to cater to people who don't like too much salt. There are salt and pepper shakers next to the condiments, so this can easily be remedied. The price of the sandwich (around $8) may seem a little high at first glance. However, the sandwich is humongous and likely big enough for two.

Took my daughter to this joint and I thought its time for seattle to have a freakin great cheesesteak! The owners were there and greeted me with open arms. I had a mushroom cheesesteak with wiz, and it was good.. He also explained they are open til like 3am.. If you live in the central like I do you know there is nowwhere to go after 10pm. My shorty had the steak and cheese fries and loved em! My kinda place...

The super nice brothers who run this Philly Cheese shop are loud, friendly and talented. The Italian roasted pork sandwich is absolutely delicious and just keeps going and going. The soft-chewy bread is crammed full with overflowing gorgeous, tangy pork.

I grew up around Philly. These South Philly guys know what they're doing. The menu is simple: Cheesteaks ("whiz wit" if you want to do it right), sausage/pepper/onion sandwich, and fries. The rolls, which are criminally overlooked by other places, are perfect here --- soft and a little bit chewy. They're better than all the other places in Seattle that claim to make Philly cheesesteaks, and are right there with what you'd get back East. Give these people your business. Also, they're open until the wee hours of Saturday night for your drunken late-night eats.

I'm an east coaster and I know it's really hard to find really good Philly cheese steak. I live in San Diego so when I walked by and smelled the yummy flavors from this place I could not resist. The bumping music outside was a bonus as well for late night. My friend and I had a cheese steak with mozzarella. Yes they offer the authentic cheese whiz like Philly, but sorry I got to have real cheese. We also got a side of fries. I was really happy to see that they had a jar of peppers and ketchup on a table so that you could get your fill if needed. The sandwich was divine. The meat tasted so fresh and juicy. The fries were fresh, hot, and crisp. If it wasn't for trying to be healthy, I would probably go here everyday on my trip.

Simple, delicious and friendly staff. Go for the classic and be greeted by a mountain of delicious meats covered with wholesome cheese wizz, all wrapped in a just-absorbent-enough bun (peppers optional). Who would I be to stoke the flames of the already raging Calozzi's vs Tat's wars, but needless to say Calozzi's makes a fine addition to the already very sandwich-competitive pioneer square.

A few block away from our office in the heart of Pioneer Square, the unassuming presence of Calozzi's had managed to sneak under our radar even though we walk by the sandwich shop almost on a daily basis. With unadorned furnishings and a ragtag team of cooks, Calozzi's brought us back to the days of our first true Philadelphia cheesesteak; a quick and filling sandwich with a mouthful of meaty goodness in every bite. By all means, if you plan on having a quiet lunch with table service and petite entrees delicately garnished with inconsumable greens, go elsewhere because this restaurant is catered to satisfy the working man on the run. At about eight dollars, our order of the classic Philadelphia cheesesteak was a simple untoasted baguette piled to the edge of the sandwich with beef blanketed under a hefty portion of Swiss cheese. Definitely not a sandwich to be had on a regular basis, unless acquiring some sort of coronary disease is a life goal of yours, but a sandwich worth indulging in if you are ever in the neighborhood.

Lucky for us that Tat's was closed today and that we just lucked into a guy on his way to Calozzi's! Call it fate or what but when I walked into brother's Steve and Al's cheesesteak place I was beyond happy! First these guys are the real deal - so friendly, funny and just like family. Guess it doesn't hurt that I am a Philly native - that means I do know a good cheese steak when I taste one! My husband and I are Jim's fans and sure enough, thin, delicious steak chopped up just like they do it at Jim's on South Street! in Philly, 12" super soft Italian roll, sauteed onions if you want (and you do!) and best of all, Whiz! Husband had Provolone - also a big jar of peppers to help yourself. We hear beer is on the way too! Super delicious and will definitely be back - this is a great place with a real East coast vibe!

The real deal. Owners are super friendly Philly transplants. Bread is magically like being back in Philly. Perfect cheesesteaks. Great place to stop before a Sounders or Seahawks game.

The best Philly Cheesesteak in Seattle. This is not a deconstructed sandwich, not Westernized nor in any way have they tried to make so-called improvements on the classic. It is the real deal. As such, the bread isn't a crusty baguette. It is soft, pliable soaks up the juice, holds it all together and does the job. As if this delicious cheesesteak weren't enough, for free you get large helpings of South Philly/New Jersey (or is that Joisey?) attitude. I don't know if these guys are brothers, cousins, friends. I do know there is a chemistry and spirit lacking in most any other spot in town. These guys know how to work the room and satisfy their patrons. It's a perfect spot for pre and post games at either stadium. It's loud, family freindly, and you're gonna' be treated like old friends when you enter. Every owner operated restaurant in town should take lessons on customer relations from these guys. Then there are those sandwiches!

Oh Lordy is Calozzi's the shiz! I had the pleasure of trying my first ever cheese steak sandwich at Calozzi's with one of my best friends from Philly. My best friend said that it was 1 of the best cheese steaks that he had EVER had!!! The bar is set high now! And might I say that it cured my massive hangover also! Thanks Calozzi's brothers!

on a whim, my buddy and i decided to take a trip down to pioneer square for a lunch hour journey. we had a game plan; we wanted to hit two places for lunch, calozzi's and salumi (next review will be salumi). calozzi's is a local philly steak sandwich restaurant and they serve, you guessed it, philly cheesesteak sandwiches. now, in my past, i have been to a couple of good philly steak places and i know a good philly steak sandwich when i smell it, see it and eventually eat it, hah hah. so, how does calozzi's fair? let's put it this way, i could smell the greasy goodness from literally a half block away, that's right a half block away. a good sign in my view. my buddy and i walked in around 12:30 and were surprised there wasn't a line, plenty of seats and greeted right away by a big burly man behind the counter. as far as the man behind the counter goes, you really can't get any more east coast than that, big booming east coast voice, it was like i was talking to stallone, "adrian!" hah hah. as far as ambiance, it is no frills, what do you expect from a philly steak place? there was an exposed kitchen, a couple of large communal tables and a couple of smaller tables, plenty of chairs around, which makes it a perfect place for lunch or a late night snack, overheard them saying they open until 4am on club nights since they are next door to trinity and close to the last supper club. guys, i would not recommend it if you plan to take your date here unless your girl loves cheesesteaks hah hah. anyways, onto the food, there were a couple of different variations of philly steaks on the menu, the pizza steak caught my eye, since that was the kind of philly steak sandwich that i defeated at frank's in maryland (check out my review of franks). anyways, to properly compare calozzi's philly steak sandwiches to the ones i've had in the past, my buddy and i had to order the original with grilled onions and cheese sauce, aka, the whiz. after waiting a couple of minutes, our greasy behemoths arrived at our table, served on a grease resistant sandwich wrap. the smell, the sight of the grease and oozing of the cheese sauce, made my mouth water. the first bite gave me flash backs to the time i had my first philly where since then, have become a big fan of the sandwich. the sandwich was piled with grilled, thin sliced seasoned beef and onions, that were cooked perfectly, full of flavor and very juicy (greasy). the bread was perfect for this sandwich, not too hard, but had a thin crispy crust that did it's job by keeping the grease in the sandwich and not all over me, hah hah. this sandwich was terrific and is definitely top tier when it comes to philly steaks. in my mind, it lives up to it's motto of being, "the michael jordan of cheesesteaks," by sticking to a simple menu and perfecting their simple ingredients. at $9.50, it isn't cheap, but it is a big sandwich made for big guys or two women hah hah. the pioneer square area is littered with shops, offices and small restaurants and parking is pricey here. because lots offer $5 an hour whereas street parking is $4 an hour, it's best to walk or bike here if you're close by or take public transportation if you're not.
