If you want small-town fast food, Cougar Country Drive-In is your place. Take note: it is not a drive-in (perhaps it was long ago), as you don't park and have staff take or deliver your order. Instead, it is a drive-through, and a small one at that, where only two cars fit the length of the driving lane. (Once, I saw a man on a horse go through their drive-through.) Their parking lot is small, too, so endeavor to be the courteous guest and park _within_ the lines please. Prices are good--just right for what you get. The cub burgers are small, thin, greasy, and would not taste like much without the mayo and their special sauce. They're a nice size to go with a side of fries or onion rings. If you get a hamburger deluxe, then you're getting the huge burger which is sometimes hard to finish. I recommend skipping the mayo and special sauce, in favor of paying a small extra price to get onion, tomato, and lettuce. Fries are crinkle-cut and best with their house fry sauce. Sometimes the fry boat is filled with only a bunch of short fries (annoying!). Onion rings are smooth battered, usually thin and partially over-fried, but they're tasty! The grilled chicken sandwich is pretty good but sometimes can be overcooked or dry. It is no longer listed on the menu board but, if asked, they will make a most excellent grilled cheese with ham sandwich--sheer heaven! Their fish and chips are good and come with tons of fries (they have malt vinegar and tartar sauce available). There is a wide assortment of fountain drinks available (one of the best selections in town). The iced tea is brewed (very nice!) and their huckleberry milkshakes are to die for (available mid through late summer). Chocolate or fresh banana + chocolate shakes are wonderful too. Ordering tip: if getting a milkshake ask them to give it to you upon order, otherwise they'll make it right away and it will sit on the back counter melting while your food is being cooked--who likes a runny milkshake? The dipped ice cream cones are great, especially the kiddie size. The space is small and sound carries throughout the eating area. They have acoustical foam up to help but it gets very loud in there at times. If you ever see a school bus parked there or near the open dirt lot opposite of the adjacent gas station, avoid at all costs, unless you don't mind waiting forever among loud teenagers for your food. The cleaning solution they use to spray the tables is downright offensive and strong so avoid "wet looking" tables if you can.

This place is ok for what it is. Last time I decided to eat their everything was just sloppily thrown into the bag and fry sauce got over everything. The clam strips I ordered were also pretty badly burnt but all in all this place tends to be decent.

The food is classic dive in food. Huge, tasty, greasy and ready to give you a coronary at any moment. Its a local legend around Pullman Cougs and Townsfolk swear its the best burger joint ever, its not, but it is by far the best out of Pullman's terrible selection. Try it once for the experience. Only eat it once in a while unless you have deathwish.

Amazing food. I remember eating here ever since I was little. The Cheeseburger Deluxe is BOMB. Amazing fries. AMAZING shakes. Worth a stop if you are traveling through town, because everyone that lives in whitman county already knows it is a FAVORITE!

If youre looking for a classic burger and shake look no further!

Growing up in the area we have been coming here for a long time. Not a lot has changed, and that's a great thing. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you're really hungry the Super Coug Basket with a shake, and you won't be, for a day or so. Great local spot!

I flew in from California to visit a friend who goes to WSU, and this is one of the places he took me to get lunch. I had a fried chicken sandwich and it was killer!! Super delicious, and I enjoyed that it was on a wheat bun. I also had a pumpkin pie shake, so tasty. My friend (who is from CA as well) told me to try the fry sauce because its supposedly comparable to the "spread" or "secret sauce" at In N Out burger. The fry sauce here wasn't comparable at all hahah, it's pretty much just ketchup and mayonnaise- but I am a fan of those two sauces so therefore it was enjoyable. Quick service, filling and delicious meal- come and get it y'all.

Good burger. I skipped the fries but my kid's looked pretty good. Comfortable and very reasonably priced

I was hoping for a good local burger joint with decent prices (from the outside, it sure looks like the type of place), instead, it was overpriced and mediocre--at best. What I ordered: a bacon double cheeseburger, fries, and small drink. All of that cost exactly $10! And this was allegedly two dollars cheaper than normal because I got something on special. I went ahead and paid it because I had never been there before and figured it might be awesome and worth it. Suffice to say, it wasn't. Quick rundown: Service: The cashier was very polite and helpful. No complaints about the service at all. Part of the reason I plunked down $10 for the food was that I figured if they had that good of service everything else might be that good. Bacon Double Cheeseburger: The good: the bacon was real. The sauce was OK. The bun was normal. The bad: everything else. The meat was the same type of ultra-cheap pre-made stamped stuff you get at Walmart. You know, that kind that tastes vaguely frozen still. They were large in circumference, but had nothing else going for them. The cheese was barely there. The fries: They were hot and tasted pretty normal. But there weren't that many of them for the price and they were nothing more than the crinkle fries you buy at the grocery store. The drink: A very small drink for $1.50. In short, for the quality of the food it's *vastly* overpriced, even taking into consideration the good service. If I had paid $5 or even $8, I might have been happy, though I probably wouldn't go again since it was merely OK. $10 during a special deal? I'll never go again.

Crinkle fried and special sauce....enough said!! This was one of my favorite places to eat while going to school at WAZZU. You pretty much can't go wrong with anything you order, but be prepared for the grease coma that follows. A perfect place when you have a hangover and need to put some sustenance into your belly.

  • Lauren K.

I don't get what all the hype is about! The Coug's food runs circles around this place. Their beef patties are thin and straight from the freezer. I wouldn't be surprised if ever ingredient they use comes straight from Food Service of America. I swear it made my hand over worse. I think every coug should come here for the experience though. Make sure you note the foam ceiling! oh and fry sauce junkies, it's simply ketchup and mayo... enjoy!

  • Michael D.

The food is exceptional, there is no questioning that. However, the service is somewhat poor at times. They take a long time to get you your food, and their employees are virtually silent. I would recommend them for the food, and would implore them to improve service consistency.

I ordered a bacon burger, that is where my journey begins. Along with that I got a small fry. After a speedy cook time the cashier called number 98. Enthusiasm ran through my body. I jumped up and got the meal. As I sat down I rolled up my sleeves, I knew the journey I was about to embark on would be an amazing adventure. As I opened the chrome bag I pulled out the most glorious of burgers. Roughly a 4 inch diameter, filled with burger, cheese, special sauce, bacon, as well as all the other condiments privileged enough to lay atop this glorious meal. As I took my first bite, the flavors of all parts of the burger came together and the heavens opened up. My love for the bacon overwhelmed the first couple bites as that was all I focused on. After I was able to tame my tastebuds and tell them to taste everything I was able to enjoy the special sauce that is the true identity of Cougar Country. I savored every single bite. Even down to the last. This burger epitomized the meaning of being a carnivore. It makes vegetarians crap their pants just thinking about it. This burger is the classic American burger that makes you want to wave the flag as you leave the restaurant. Too much salt on the fries.

  • C. Brandon C.

Just gotta know what days and specials there are. The fries are traditional crinkle fries... not nearly as good as South Forks. I love the burger, though... the Super Basket is great. Like many other businesses, it is badly in need of updating!!! Also, parking is a beast. They should find a way to put parking across the creek and then put a foot bridge or something!

    (4)
  • Jose M.

Had the cougar special. It was really good. Prices were pretty decent for a drive in. The fried were hot and crispy. Overall a good experience for a small place. Everyone in the family enjoyed their burgers. The bathrooms were clean but need updating. I would recommend.

    (4)
  • Xiangyu Y.

I just don't understand all the hype about this place. The burger is dry and overcooked. Their "fry sauce" is just a simple mixture of Mayo and Ketchup. You can make it at home.

  • Duncan W.

Everyone knows what a drive-in burger taste like. We've all had one before and they all have that oddly common taste. Well here at Cougar Country it's a bit different and this time different is good! I got the basic burger - I can't recall it's name. Two buns, beef, pickles, mayo, lettuce, etc., you know the drill. This burger was big. It was big and tasty (no copyright infringement intended). There was fry sauce and tartar sauce (surprising because you're usually having to special order sides of fry & tartar sauce) readily available in their self serve condiment section next to the classics, ketchup and mustard. The fries were small, crinkle cut, and a satisfying side for your main course. This is one of those special cases you hear of where size DOESN'T matter. Honestly, I knew it was going to be a good time from the reviews and I wasn't disappointed. A drive-in reminiscent of the 50s & 60s serving burgers with a nostalgic taste you'll remember and cherish forever (or until you come back to get your fix for your Cougar Country craving).

  • John C.

We had a super basket with two cheeses added, no bacon. We split it as it was BIG. Here with quadsinthemudd family. Best burger I've ever had in town. Watch out you might see some college kids.

    (5)
  • Callie P.

I have to say it was below average food and takes forever. The pink sauce is good, my favorite thing. The burgers are high school cafeteria quality. Not worth the the money, or the calories.

    (3)
  • Chris D.

I had a burger and soda and my wife had a chicken sandwich. They were both okay, not the best burger and not the worse, just good food at a reasonable price. 10 times better than McDonalds but that isn't saying much I guess. I would go back for a second helping on my next trip to Pullman.

    (3)
  • Chris W.

I don't understand some of these reviews. You're complaining about spending $10 on the meal. $10 for any decent burger and fry basket is a deal anywhere. If you're looking for a less expensive lunch then go eat off the dollar menu at McDonald's. I don't even know why you're blogging because it's obvious that you don't know the difference between fresh food and fast food. Nobody cares about the reviews for a guy who spends $.99 on his burgers. Also you're giving poor reviews for the smell of a bathroom??? It's a bathroom get over it! People want to know about the food quality. They don't get on Yelp to find out what the conditions the bathrooms are in. Goobers

    (3)
  • Heidi E.

I love the food here! The fries are my favorite. They remind me of Zips. I usually get the chicken strips basket or the chicken sandwich. My husband really loves the super basket. I am not a fan of their drive thru. Everything about it is a nightmare. They should consider closing it or moving locations because it's a pain to use and a pain to drive on Grand and see all the drivers who think they fit. I also like the fact that I can get all of my local magazines there!

    (4)
  • Jeff C.

This food had better be good because I have been sitting at the drive thru window for almost 15 minutes without even a quick greeting.

    (2)
  • Justin R.

When you want to talk about a big juicy burger, this is the place to go. There are many options to choose from and the layout is that of a typical burger joint. I love the ambiance as it is in a college town and the setting feels definitely appropriate. For a place to go after that hangover or crazy previous night, this is the burger remedy. I highly suggest this place to go with your friends. Driving might be the better idea since it is across Dissmores. Service is typical and like all joints, its 'take care of yourself.' The shakes are thick but delicious and I would say this is THE burger joint for Pullman. Parking can be a struggle but I usually manage to find a spot...well maybe it's because I go there Saturday/Sunday afternoons.

  • Gina K.

I don't know if I've just been eating too healthfully lately but I went here and had a bacon cheeseburger, fried pickle spears, and a chocolate shake (the last two items were shared) and they were absolutely delicious. I swear it was the best burger I'd had in well over a year. I will be dreaming about it until I move my daughter over for college in August and I can get another.

  • Brent S.

Place is a classic in Pullman, WA. Great burgers! Traditional style drive-in. I stopped in on my way to a meeting in Clarkston, WA. Well worth it when you crave what burger joints use to be. Go Cougs!

    (4)
  • Callie T.

Honestly there is no place in town that even can compete with a Coug Burger and Fries. Best ever, hands down. Every time I come to Pullman, I always make this a stop. Everyone else should do the same :) GO COUGS!

    (5)
  • Sabrina H.

Cougar Country Drive-In is a small town fast food joint with plenty of things to choose from. This is my favorite place to get a burger. These things are gigantic and under $5. You can also get a full meal for about $7. The only thing to be disappointed with is sometimes you get burnt fries or onion rings! Parking can be a nightmare, especially on busy weekends! Definitely worth going here though!

    (5)
  • John S.

Reminds me of an Arctic Circle mixed with a Mike's Drive-In with a sense of Ma and Pa's burger stand. I suppose its comfort food for some. Its worth a try. Next time I try "not- a-burger" though.

    (3)
  • TheMadDog T.

Awesome Huge burgers, best Burgers in town for sure, we love coming here every now and then when we forget to make dinner. Our dog even loves us going through the drive through because they always give her dog treats!

    (5)
  • Robert S.

The other place you have to goo to in Pullman. Small town drive ins are the best. This place does not disappoint. Great fries and burgers and their fry sauce is reminiscent of the old Arctic Circle special sauce.

    (3)
  • Kayla H.

Best burgers in town and local fave spot! Gotta get their delicious crinkle fries and reese's peanut butter cup cyclone aka blizzard shakes = AMAZING!

    (5)
  • Drew G.

While this place is quite a hike out without a car to get you there, they have slushies. Not like 7-11, good ones. If you want fry sauce, they have that too, and its gooooood.

    (3)
  • Meredith B.

Best place for a burger in the Pullman/Moscow area. Seriously. I actually put off going here for a long time.. but when I went, oh goodness. I'm very happy that they have a few healthy selections such as the black bean burger, and the grilled chicken sandwich. Everything I've ever tasted from Cougar Country has been amazing. I always get my orders to go because this place is always crowded. However, the food is soooooo worth it.

    (5)
  • Laura S.

Meh. Had a chicken burger, very bland.

    (2)
  • Joey T.

Overpriced for a small amount of meat patty. The buns was huge in comparison to the meat. Love their special sauce, has a tanginess to it.

    (3)
  • R T.

yes, i have eaten there. it's a burger joint, so yeah, it's okay. that's my review.

    (3)
  • Brent C.

A staple for any coug. Everytime I am back in town for a game I have to hit up Cougar Country. Love the special with the ham on it. The crinkle cut fries are spectacular. Shakes and ice cream are great too.

    (4)
  • Deepak V.

Nothing fancy here but well made burgers (though a little overpriced for his much you get) all made better by their special sauce and drinks menu. Always check their seasonal specials (huckleberry shakes are pretty amazing).

    (4)
  • Megan S.

This place is way over-rated. In my years at WSU, I went to Cougar Country a handful of times. I always found it to give quite the blow to a college student's wallet. I mean, especially since it's just greasy, fried, cheap food. I always ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich, which was good, but not worth the five or six dollars they charge for it. That doesn't even include fries or a drink. By the way, the fries are just average. I would compare Cougar Country to Miner's in Yakima, but that may be giving it too much credit. The food is good, but not worth the cost.

    (2)
  • Kristina S.

I love this place. A friend brought me here for the first time as a WSU freshman. I was shocked that the burger was as big as my head and I thought there is no way I could eat this whole thing. I ate all and it was delicious!! Thank goodness I didn't have a car when I was in school or the Freshman 15 might have been the freshman 50. Super tasty burgers (bacon with cheese please!) and really good fries. Every time I am back in town my husband and I have to stop for cougar country. Whenever we find a new burger joint our measuring stick is Cougar Country. As in "its no Cougar Country, but it was pretty good". I highly recommend this place if you are in the area.

    (5)
  • Adam J.

So I believe every City has a "classic burger joint" and Cougar Country is Pullman's. And generally its pretty good. One of the best things is you can order, and then adjust. My typical burger is a cub burger with 2 extra patties and cheese. Ends up being the same price as a super-basket burger when its all said and done with but less bread :) That being said I have eaten a triple-super basket with extra cheese.... Sometimes during lunch and dinner the rush gets a bit long but my favorite time to go is around 10pm for milkshakes with friends. Its a fun spot.

    (4)
  • Rob B.

Can be a little spend for some, but pretty good food!

    (4)
  • Deidre D.

Oh my goodness!! I love Cougar Country! Their burgers are always so large, maybe as big as my face! Instead of getting a regular meal, I always turn to the kiddie meals because it's the perfect size of fries and burger for me! Bonus, it comes with an ice cream cone (with the option of being dipped for free). The fries are always perfect, to my liking; perfect crunchy on the outside & good amount of softness in the middle. When dipped in, the fry sauce, it's like happiness in my mouth. Cougar Country has a great dine-in experience. Really old school and a great place to just chill out. The employees are great and everything is really clean. One thing that kind of bugs me a bit is that the burger itself is really thin. But the sauce and the flavor that it has makes up for it. GO COUGS!!

    (4)
  • Stacey C.

Every college town has a local burger joint and this is Pullman's. Cougar Country knows where it's at. The best part about Cougar Country is that they don't skimp. They give big burgers that fill you up! I'm particularly fond of their chicken fillet sandwich, it's nice, simple and, most importantly, hits the spot. Plus, they have milkshakes, as every true burger place should. Sadly I think it's the last days of huckleberry milkshake season, so tasty! You have to wait a few minutes for your order to come out. On game weekends it tends to be busier and the wait a bit longer but it's a fun busy atmosphere and the wait is easy with friends. They have a drive thru but I've never used it. Parking kind be a little annoying as it's a bit limited and some of the spots are tricky to get out of. Don't pass it up though. Cougar Country is a classic!

  • Ben C.

This place is really good if your gonna eat here go all out cheese pineapple the works add it thx me later I will come here every time I'm in Pullman

    (5)
  • Don T.

Their burgers are thin and often not the best flavor-wise. I've gotten them raw on the inside a few times, which is amazing since they are only 1/4" thick at most. What I really love here is the fries/onion rings and the MILKSHAKES! Best dessert/ice cream place on the Palouse! But I find McDonald's has a more satisfying burger with more toppings for the same price. Go here for a sweet and salty fix, but not for a burger. I don't know how they've been rated for the best burgers in the area, other than the fact that the only competition close by is Jack in the Box and McDonald's. If you want a burger, go to Moscow to Zip's or A&W.

    (3)
  • Andrea H.

I think that the quality of this place might be declining. The last time I was there my burger seemed overcooked, dry, and lacking in flavor. It was difficult to finish it. The fries were still good. I'll probably give them another try to see if that was just a bad day.

    (2)
  • Aj T.

diverse menu. its a burger place. burgers are big but thin. not bad. it gets busy.

    (3)
  • John W.

I've never been to a better drive-in. The Super Basket undeniably stands on the highest pedestal in the Pullman Hall of Fame.

    (5)
  • Brandon B.

Great food. But spending 35 min in their drive through on a Sunday night is not ok. I'm in a wheelchair and it's very hard to navigate inside when it's busy so the drive through is my only option. It's obvious the drive through customers are the lowest priority or they need to better staff the place.

It's not the late great Teds Burgers but this Vandal is always happy at Cougar Country.

  • Sylvia H.

Came from out of state and was really excited to try this place after seeing all the hype and positive feedback. It was very disappointing and a total waste of money. The food tasted like it came from the frozen food section of a grocery store. I could only eat 2 bites (literally) and had to toss it. The drinks weren't even good (nothing but pure sugar). I will not be visiting again.

    (1)
  • Shawna H.

Love love love this place for a good old fashioned burger and fries. Wear your stretch pants because the portions are huge and the food is so good in that greasy diner sort of way that you wont want to stop eating it long after you're full!

    (5)
  • Arlen H.

Best burger in Pullman. Every WSU alum has a fondness for Cougar Country. The fries are good but incomplete without the fry sauce. It's clearly made with love and probably a unicorn horn or something to make it magical. Always busy at lunch, you may have to wait for a table, but it's worth it.

I was excited to try this place after the rave reviews while driving through town on a job interview. I forgot that the people reviewing this are still in college, and don't know what good food is. I certainly enjoy a nice, greasy burger. But burger joints that do grease right have hand-formed, daily ground beef. The patties on the burger here seemed identical to Burger King's. The special sauce and toppings were nice, but again, nothing better than your typical fast food. The onion rings were above average for fast food, though. Seemed to be freshly made, although most sit-down restaurants will do a better job. Milk shakes were very good. Rich, extremely thick, and very tasty. Probably the best thing I had, but not worth coming back for. Oh, and I don't know if the girl at the register got the check wrong (it was late and I didn't feel like arguing) but my bill was like $13, which is waaaaay to expensive for what I got.

    (3)
  • Marina C.

Really good fry sauce and really good fries to go with it, which is nice because I grew up by like the only Arctic Circle in western Washington and REALLY MISSED fry sauce.. And now I do again, of course. But the point is that if you want to dip your very tasty fries in a highly tasty orange-white slurry of sauce, then this is the place to go. Wait at the drive-thru is long however, and the burgers aren't anything to write home about, though the chicken burgers are pretty darn good.

    (3)
  • Rachel J.

if you are in pullman you have to go to cougar country, get a burger and a shake, i love the onion rings as well. Dip them in the fry sauce, YUM. the place is good and greasy. It had a nice classic burger joint feel.

    (5)
  • Jessica M.

This is definitely no InNOut but it's an excellent greasy, fast-food burger place. This is what McDonald's SHOULD taste like. The burgers are huge and the shakes are delicious. If you're looking for a place to cure a hangover this is it.

    (4)
  • Jeff H.

Burgers are to die for if you are needing some good grease!

    (5)

Great burger joint! Love the barbecue beef sandwich, their fries, chicken basket, and butterscotch dandy bar! I'm not a burger girl, but their cub burger is delish!

    Cougar Country is totally boss.

    (5)
  • Scott T.

There's a pretty fair chance that this place is responsible for a large percentage of the weight that's gained by freshmen at WSU. Burgers here are good, by typical burger stand standards. Burger baskets with fries are a full meal, and run right around $7. They make good shakes, and have a good variety of flavors. When I was in school, they also served Pepsi and the mixture in their fountain was a little on the sweet side, which was a plus in my book. It's a small place, so it gets busy fast, and when it's busy there's no way you're going to park there. And the drive-thru is almost a hazard. There's room for maybe 2-3 cars between the road and the window, and since they don't make anything til it's ordered, being the 2nd or 3rd car in line can be a bit of a wait. Even if you've got to walk a couple blocks, it's worth the visit

    (5)
  • Brandon H.

Its really not that good. Overpriced for what you get, and not good enough to justify the expense. Pullman is in need of a GOOD burger joint!

    (2)
  • Patrick K.

The burgers here are pretty normal. Not bad enough for me to not go again, but they also aren't the reason I would return. The milkshake I got was fine but the real reason to go is for the french fries and fry sauce which are good enough to deserve a return visit on their own. Side note: There is a reason that a lot of reviews say "best burger in town." It's because there isn't anything else in town.

    (4)
  • Clinton H.

Its a burger joint that I think is way above the quality of fast food restaurants. I love their burgers. They're just really tasty. The fry sauce is quite good. And their shakes are just plain amazing. If you feel like a burger and a shake on the Palouse, this is the place to go. Parking is a major issue.

The food is okay but really expensive and greasy. Not to mention that this local restaurant is always busy and you can't hardly go there on your lunch because it takes forever.

    (3)
  • Jeremy F.

Other than the fact that it's named after the university and has been in Pullman for decades, Cougar Country is subpar for the price and atmosphere. It looks like a 5 guys with a seating area. The workers are blocked off behind a plexiglass wall with the run down menu stand behind it as well. A regular burger will cost about $7 and is roughly worse tasting and more greasy than your average McDonald's offering. The building is gross, the food the overpriced, and the service is literally hidden out of reach. Don't go unless it's your first time in Pullman and need to feel your 'cougar pride'

Cheeseburgers, fries, and shakes are alright. Everyone says this place is the best. Perhaps I should give this place another try?

I could care less about Cougars or Huskies, but I am now a fan of Cougar Country! I went to Pullman recently and hit up a game. Before venturing home I wanted to get some grub before my hours of Palouse driving. I thought of checking out this local eatery. So glad I did. I went for a bacon burger, fries and a drink. Oh man, this totally hit the spot. They do make some good burgers here. I thought I could do the whole, eat while driving, but this burger deserved a much better death. I had to pull over and quickly inhale it and put it out of its misery. So yummy (and thankfully, they didn't put any pickles in it!). The fries were average, but their fry sauce made them stand out a little. All in all, this is a good local eatery to try when in town.

I absolutely love Cougar Country. I was introduced as a freshman at WSU and have been going ever since. They have great food and the BEST fry sauce. I typically get the Cub burger (kids meal) because the regular burgers are huge! The Cub burger comes with fries and a small drink so it's the perfect meal. If you're looking for a hangover cure, this is the place to go. My only "negative" is that the drive thru is very small so if there are two cars in line already you basically can't go because you would be in the street. They have awesome milkshakes and ice cream as well, so its the perfect place to gather with friends and enjoy food that is special to Pullman.

I can't even begin to fathom how much of my time/money I spent at Cougar Country during my four years at WSU. It's probably ridiculous, but so worth it. Here's what you do. You order a #1 Kids Meal (Cub Burger) with cheese. This is the best thing on the menu. Listen to me -- I am a wise old alumnus now -- get yourself a kids meal. Why so demanding, you ask? Let me tell you: you get the burg, you get fries, you get a drink, you get A TOY, and... you get a free dipped cone. Want to blow that out of the water? Well guess what. If you save up three of the dipped cone coupons... you get A WHOLE SUNDAE. Boom. So nurse your hangovers, or take that long lunch when you're skipping your noon class and head over to The "You Know What Word" already. There is nothing like Cougar Country anywhere else on this planet. Don't take it for granted!

Best drive-in in Pullman. It has vegetarian options like a black bean burger, veggie burger, etc. It also has the cub burger as a featured item on Mondays and Tuesdays where you can get it for 1.99. I love Cougar Country for one main reason though... DEEP FRIED PICKLES. They have them in orders of 3 or 6 spears and they are to die for. No matter what else I order here, I ALWAYS get an order of the pickles. The drive through is very short and can only fit 3 cars at a time and the parking lot is small. Go at off peak times or expect a line inside and out.

Nothing fancy here but well made burgers (though a little overpriced for his much you get) all made better by their special sauce and drinks menu. Always check their seasonal specials (huckleberry shakes are pretty amazing).

GO COUGS!!

Being almost 1500 miles from home and with no In-N-Out in sight, my sister and I decided to give Cougar Country a try. And I'm very glad we did! Ppl around town raved of this burger joint and the reviews were also generous on Yelp! I ordered the combo that had the largest burger and fries. I added cheese to the burger and substituted onion rings for the fries. My sister ordered the clam basket. Which, to our surprise, also came with a side of crinkle cut fries. Also in the bag of fried goodness were three containers of the famed "French fries sauce" (which really is just mayo and ketchup) and a container of ketchup. Needless to say, only the ketchup container was left untouched :) The burger was very enjoyable and HUGE. The patties were a little on the thin side... Maybe that's why they give you 2? The buns were nicely toasted, no tomatoes (which I can appreciate!), The fried clams and onion rings were surprisingly good! Both were crispy til the end of the meal. And they didn't start off too crispy... You know what I mean, so crispy that you feel like all your teeth are chipped. Only one thing was kind of a let down. The fries. There were areas of the fries where it was just salt. But that's understandable. It could have just been a fluke by the chef. With Pullman being such a little town, this burger joint is definitely a must eat! While you're doing the 25 miles per hour thing, make sure to turn into Cougar Country to try their fried goodness! Happy Eating!

I didn't believe the hype, but this place actually serves great burgers & dive bar type food. The quarter pound Cougar Super Burger has 2 thin 1/4 lb patties & fresh veggies and yummy fry sauce - it's great. Better than some mom & pop restaurants.

  • Ty R.

Went after a Cougar football game and the place was a zoo. I was impressed by how quickly we got our food and the order was correct. Kind of spendy, but well worth the price. The fries were especially tasty.

  • Randy S.

This place is ok for what it is. Last time I decided to eat their everything was just sloppily thrown into the bag and fry sauce got over everything. The clam strips I ordered were also pretty badly burnt but all in all this place tends to be decent.

  • James M.

    (3)

    (2)
  • Andrea H.

I think that the quality of this place might be declining. The last time I was there my burger seemed overcooked, dry, and lacking in flavor. It was difficult to finish it. The fries were still good. I'll probably give them another try to see if that was just a bad day.

    (2)

I've never been to a better drive-in. The Super Basket undeniably stands on the highest pedestal in the Pullman Hall of Fame.

  • Diana M.

Honestly, probably one of the things I miss most about Pullman. They have a huge shake/ice cream selection and offer more than the regular burger joint (seriously, they even serve clam chowder). I would typically order a cheeseburger and french fries (with fry sauce of course) and a Butterfinger cyclone. I believe they put thousand island on their burgers so they aren't just the typical burger you would find at a McDonalds The interior of the restaurant has that 70's vibe but we usually got ours to go. Parking can also be a little tough at times since they only have a few spots. If you avoid the typical dinner hour you should be fine.

    (5)

Make sure you note the foam ceiling! oh and fry sauce junkies, it's simply ketchup and mayo... enjoy!

    (2)
  • Michael D.

The food is exceptional, there is no questioning that. However, the service is somewhat poor at times. They take a long time to get you your food, and their employees are virtually silent. I would recommend them for the food, and would implore them to improve service consistency.

    (4)
  • Sarah C.

We've gone back twice since my last review. The burgers are still great, and the service is fast and friendly. Both of our recent visits landed us with almost-warm, soggy fries. It was definitely a bummer. We just grabbed dinner here on Wednesday. The drive-thru was full, so we actually went inside for the first time since last year. There were a few groups of teenagers, but they mostly had drinks/shakes. Besides the cars outside, we were the only customers ordering at the time. Despite that and the fact that we waited for about ten minutes, our fries were soggy and they didn't put cheese on Zach's burger. It might be a few weeks before we head back.

  • Brit W.

I like to swing in on either Mon or Tue for the $1.19 cub burger. Always have to get the fries with tartar sauce. Only thing I hate is the small drive thru. If there are already three cars waiting and you don't feel like blocking traffic and starting a chain of wrecked cars then you have to park and go inside. But maybe that's a good thing. A little exercise never hurts when eating greasy fastfood. A MUST for when visiting Pullman. I Love Coug Country.

    (5)
  • Angela S.

YUM! This is a tasty burger! But be forewarned, everything but the cub burger is really really really big. I had their seasonal shake shake (pumpkin) and it was the creamiest tastiest thing I've had in a while. This place is consistently great! Best place to grab a greasy burger after a binge night or full on bender.

    (4)
  • PF M.

Pullman's iconic. Drive in delivers great burgers but their fry sauce is the big hit! Enjoy their huckleberry shakes in late summer.

Now that I'm a Coug alum trapped in Seattle, I long for Cougar Country. In fact, when I moved out of Pullman, I headed to Cougar Country for my "last meal." Every time I find myself in Pullman now, I want to go to get a Cub Burger. Imagine my disappointment to find they were closed for renovations last time I was there. It's cheap and tasty. And as others have mentioned - Coke AND Pepsi! What more could you ask for? I recommend the Cub Burger with cheese and fries. Don't forget the delicious fry sauce (I like to put it on my burger).

  • Alli D.

Best burger place in Pullman, no contest. And it's not even like their burgers are that spectacular; they're a bit on the thin side. BUT, coupled with a healthy dose of fry sauce, crinkle-cut fries, both Coke AND Pepsi products available 'on tap', and a milkshake or cyclone (blizzard-esque) for dessert, this is pretty much a must-visit. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are $1.19 Cub Burger days, if you're looking for a deal (though that's up from $.89 when I was in college). They also serve up a mean corn dog, in my humble opinion. The best part of Cougar Country is the moment they call your number when your piping hot order's ready. I swear, it's better than winning the lottery.

  • Callie T.

Honestly there is no place in town that even can compete with a Coug Burger and Fries. Best ever, hands down. Every time I come to Pullman, I always make this a stop. Everyone else should do the same :) GO COUGS!

Awesome Huge burgers, best Burgers in town for sure, we love coming here every now and then when we forget to make dinner. Our dog even loves us going through the drive through because they always give her dog treats!

The other place you have to goo to in Pullman. Small town drive ins are the best. This place does not disappoint. Great fries and burgers and their fry sauce is reminiscent of the old Arctic Circle special sauce.

While this place is quite a hike out without a car to get you there, they have slushies. Not like 7-11, good ones. If you want fry sauce, they have that too, and its gooooood.

  • Jessica M.

This is definitely no InNOut but it's an excellent greasy, fast-food burger place. This is what McDonald's SHOULD taste like. The burgers are huge and the shakes are delicious. If you're looking for a place to cure a hangover this is it.

Parking is a major issue.

they make garden burgers therefore I am a fan, oh and the fry sauce yumm.

    (2)
  • Brandon B.

Great food. But spending 35 min in their drive through on a Sunday night is not ok. I'm in a wheelchair and it's very hard to navigate inside when it's busy so the drive through is my only option. It's obvious the drive through customers are the lowest priority or they need to better staff the place.

It's not the late great Teds Burgers but this Vandal is always happy at Cougar Country.

Excellent! We are visiting for the weekend and enjoyed it so much yesterday that we are going back today! 2 thumbs up!

A really good place for burger. My favorite in Pullman. Real burgers. Any burger is good.

Reading the reviews for this place on yelp gave me high hopes. The place is good, not great. I had a bacon cheeseburger, fries and a drink. The good quality is alright, but it's nothing to write home about. I felt like my burger was going to fall apart in my hands while I was eating it. My entire meal cost me 11 dollars. I didn't necessarily think it was worth it. I might come back to try something else but not anytime soon. Atmosphere is causal. Typical fast food seating. There were flies inside and that took some of the enjoyment out of the meal. I also noticed things on the floor. It appears as though the place isn't cleaned throughout the day.

Really good when you want to eat thousands of calories. The drive through sucks though it's too small and takes forever. But the food is great and they have a lot of options

Without a doubt, the best burger i've ever had. Get the Super Basket on Wed/Thu and it's on sale. Mon/Tue is the small Cub Burger for real cheap. Consistently amazing and super friendly staff. Takes a little time to get your food, but well worth it. They also have Coke & Pepsi products, which is cool. Couldn't recommend this place enough. I will miss it so much when I leave.

first off, I love cougar country. I have been a faithful customer for 18 years. Then why the bad review? Because out of the last 2 years I have recieved 5 or more un- or under cooked hamburgers. I am so tired of it! The hamburgers arent thick enough to measure with a ruler, yet they cant manage to cook them all the way through. Sadly, I believe that I may have to be done with cougar country.

We had a super basket with two cheeses added, no bacon. We split it as it was BIG. Here with quadsinthemudd family. Best burger I've ever had in town. Watch out you might see some college kids.

I have to say it was below average food and takes forever. The pink sauce is good, my favorite thing. The burgers are high school cafeteria quality. Not worth the the money, or the calories.

I had a burger and soda and my wife had a chicken sandwich. They were both okay, not the best burger and not the worse, just good food at a reasonable price. 10 times better than McDonalds but that isn't saying much I guess. I would go back for a second helping on my next trip to Pullman.

Goobers

This food had better be good because I have been sitting at the drive thru window for almost 15 minutes without even a quick greeting.

Really appreciate the fast service and the foods taste good. But a couple times after I ate there (I had Hoagie Dip), I had an upset stomach for the whole day. Not sure if I was just sick that day, but this happened. Beside, the girls who work there seem unprofessional- talking so loud when there was only 3 customers inside. Literally, I could hear their whole conversations talking about cats and dogs.

Well if I was a college student with a hangover I would give it five stars. Because I'm past that stage in life, but still like a good burger, I have to give it two stars. The problem too much of the food is made out of pre prepared products. More like a school cafeteria and less like a burger place. Sorry WSU nostalgics it's just not that good sober

Go now, don't look back. Best burger in the Palouse hands down. Well, at least in the Pullman/Moscow area, can't really speak to the entire Palouse. Anyway, go to Cougar Country, get a burger and a shake and make your day better than it would be without it.

Just a warning. Do not use the bathrooms here if you can avoid it. They smell horrible and just don't look very clean. Another negative is the price. Spent almost $20 on just two people, and that is with splitting an order of onion rings. The food is still as good as I remember in my college days, however. And the service is still fast and friendly as I remember. I would recommend going through the drive through and eating your food at a park or something, because inside is just kinda underwhelming.

Typical greasy spoon drive in type food. The burgers and fries are just ok. The corn dog I had ounce had a very odd flavor. It's mainly the history and nostalgia of this place I guess people like.

A MUST go place if you're visiting Pullman. The food is cheap and the burgers are huge. The fry sauce is to die for - one of the very reasons I go here.

  • Scott H.

Not all that IMO. It's a totally different type of burger, compared to the coug. More of a fast food and drive in style - which is not my fav. The kaiser buns are huge, but nothing else really sticks out that makes this an amazing place from others. Meh.

Place is a classic in Pullman, WA. Great burgers! Traditional style drive-in. I stopped in on my way to a meeting in Clarkston, WA. Well worth it when you crave what burger joints use to be. Go Cougs!
