There are few Chinese restaurants I eat at. I have been eating at Golden House since I was in Elementary school, I am now 25 and the quality and taste are superb! Tammy is the nicest restaurant owner and she knows all of her regular customers by name and what they order. Te tea is always hot and your glass of water will never be empty. My all time favorites to get are the Chicken Chow mein and the General Tso's chicken. Although those are my favorite you still cant go wrong with anything on the menu. The service is very speedy and the food always comes out piping hot! Give Golden House a try, you know you want to!

I had dinner couple of times and great place to eat. I tested their roast duck and came out perfecto! I recommended!

Before coming here I knew it was family owned, but to anyone else it's also evident that this is clearly a family establishment. Very large photos from proud moments are hung on the wall to your right when you enter. As the name suggests, there is a lot of gold decorating the interior, but probably more red. My family has complained about service in the past but when I visited, everyone was pretty friendly throughout and helpful when it came to placing our orders. It's typical Americanized Chinese for the most part, but every dish was pretty tasty nonetheless. With so little options in the area (at least that I'm aware of), Golden House is probably near the top to fill the craving.

Pretty good chinese food! When we're craving chinese this is our go to spot. Cake noodle, crispy gau gee, beef with sweet and sour mustard cabbage are a few of my faves. It's hard to find Hawaii style chinese food and this place is the closest we've found.

Best Chinese food in Mukilteo. Whether we choose to eat in the restaurant or order it to go, I always get the same awesome service. My favorite dishes - stir fry almond chicken, Mongolian beef and the egg rolls. You must get the egg rolls!

Best Chinese I've ever had !!! And the wonton soup was a perfect 10 !!!! Great environment and atmosphere, service was good and will come back VERY soon !! 5 stars isn't enough !! Little pricy but well worth it.

Been going to this place since it opened many years ago, but stopped over a year ago because the food was awful, not to mention how they don't ever seem to deep clean or keep up maintenance in the dining room. Well, last night decided to try take out once again to see if it might be any better. Bad idea. We ordered shrimp chow mien, mu shu pork and garlic chicken. Got home and opened the containers - some sad looking food. No visible distinction between the chicken and pork dishes, and mu shu pancakes were thin and fell apart when the "meat" was added. Then we tasted. Salt, salt, salt and more salt. We could not eat more than a few bites. Dumped out $40 of food. Wanted to like it and support a local business - but we are done here.

This was awful. Pot stickers had too thick of dough and the ingredients not tasty. Chicken chow mien was bland. Beef & scallops had good flavor but the scallops were thin sliced probably to make it look like there was a lot but all it did was ruin the taste. Never again!

Great food and I love their lunch prices at $5.95 for a plate! Delicious and great portions!

This is our family's go-to Chinese food in Mukilteo. I have some difficult food allergies, which they kindly and without any hesitation always help me order safety from their kitchens. My kids love it, and we get great take out. I am a single parent with two teenage boys, so I really appreciate that it doesn't break the bank, and we have enough to eat.

This place is great. The prawns with honey pecan are out of this world.

Service - 1 Out of half the shit we ordered - 1 Ambience - 3 Food - 3 My kid liked it - 4 Overall a 2.5, but we won't be back. The service was poor the waiter was seemingly put out by out presence, and they came back 2x to tell us they were out of something so we would have to get something else =/

After looking for a good Chinese place in the area for a while, I think I've found my "regular" place. First of all, the service is good and I liked the atmosphere (although my tastes are not the same as everyone's - they have a waving cat statue to give you an idea!). I've been back a couple times for lunch. Their lunch specials are a fantastic deal - for two people, after tax and tip it was around $18. The food itself is very solid, much better than the competition in the area (and even most of the competition outside the immediate area - I've paid twice as much for food half as good in Seattle). So far I've had the orange beef, stuffed tofu, chicken with vegetables, and kung-pao chicken. All have been really good too, with the edge going to the chicken dishes. The only thing I'd rate a little lower is the hot and sour soup - it's a bit lacking in ingredients making it more of a broth with a few pieces of egg and bamboo shoots in it - it still tastes good, but I'd go with the egg flower for soup. But overall this is a good choice for a Chinese restaurant: the food is mostly excellent, and the people who work there seem nice.

My mom has the sweet and sour pork at least once a week. I'm not a fan of breaded and fried food in general but everything else I have had is great. The combo meals are a good deal and more food than you should eat.

Always ready for a large group/order, they are the best in Mukilteo for service and taste. I would recommend calling in about 20 mins in advance if you are in a hurry, they are always busy and you may need to reserve a seat/pre-order.

My husband and I have been going here for probably almost 10 years. I LOVE this place. The food is always amazing and the staff are so nice. The portions are wonderful, especially if you come for lunch which is a GREAT deal! The prices are medium range but you definitely get what you pay for. We've really never had any bad experiences here unless you count slow(ish) service but when it's peak dinner time on weekends, it's totally understandable. My favorite is the general tso's chicken and I love the potstickers. I love so many other things, it's really hard to pick a favorite. This would be my vote for the best Chinese in the area for sure and we will keep returning!

I was back for the third time tonight after having discovered this place a few weeks ago. Their Crab Meat Dumpling (same as Crab Rangoon) is the best I ever had. Also excellent are both the House Special Chow Mein with soft noodle and the Almond Chicken Stir Fry. The owner and family are very friendly and seem to genuinely appreciate your patronage.

This place is nasty!! Please stay away , I ordered a shrimp dish , I waited 40 minutes and then saw the women pointing and whispering in my direction .. They had forgotten me , so when my dish came out it was so disgusting tiny feeder shrimp and zero flavor , the owner lady saw my disgust and asked what was wrong I said it had no flavor and the shrimp was not good , she said she could give me season salt , WTF!!! No discount nothing !! Nasty food nasty service!

I struggle to give places bad reviews sometimes but I don't want anyone else wasting their money either. The service was great, the prices were very reasonable but the food was an abomination. The staff was so nice that I feel awful about giving them a huge thumbs down but the food was watery and flavorless to the extreme. My veggies were limp, soggy and hubby said his meat was dry and crusty. No thanks.

Golden house is one of my favorite local Chinese places. I was so happy to go in on Saturday with both of my girls after not eating there in over a year and find everything was still tasty. We got there around 8 pm and while they weren't too busy there weren't any booths available. That's fine with me. I don't especially like booths anyway. So we were seated in a corner right next to a large birthday group. Eh, ok. One good thing - we were about as far away from door as we could be in that room and my daughter was freezing so she had the best chance of staying warm. So there's a win right there. Service was fairly prompt but not the friendliest ever. Efficient, I guess would be the best way to describe it. Not unfriendly, and not really rushed, but we could tell he had to get onto the next thing and was pleased we had our minds made up pretty quickly. We had the appetizer sampler that came with BBQ pork, Egg rolls, crabmeat dumplings, and fried prawns. A little something for everyone. Pretty tasty, but nothing to write home about. Their Chinese hot mustard though - wow!! Most places you know a little goes a long way. Theirs? 1/2 the usual amount and you will be crying for your mama. The 18 yo ordered beef chow mein because as she says beef is superior to all other meats. She really enjoyed it! The 13 yo got chicken chow mein (cause why would they want to order something they could share?!) she ate almost all of it and finished it for breakfast the next day. I think she liked it! I had the honey pecan prawns. OK, yes, I know it's not real Chines food but man is it yummy! The only bad thing that night was that we actually had to ask for napkins and when they were brought out to us they were not folded. It's like the hostess grabbed them (cold) out of the dryer because someone forgot to fold them! Not a huge deal (well, except they should have been on the table to begin with), it actually struck me a little bit funny.

I'm going with three stars here because I LOVED a couple of things and really didn't care for a couple others. Golden House has really great service, the waiters are attentive and my water was refilled many times. We didn't have to wait for a table, and we got a comfy booth! First off I look for cleanliness and Golden House was pretty spotless, which made me feel comfortable that the kitchen is the same way. My friend and I started with the appetizer platter which came with fried shrimp, crab dumplings, eggrolls, and bbq pork. I found it a good value for $10.00. All of the items were fresh, and the fried items were nice and crunchy. The crab dumplings were so freakin GOOD!!!!!! I would go back here just for a couple orders of these suckers. The hot mustard for dipping was the hottest I've had... I always use a ton and went a bit overboard on this one and had a coughing fit! Entree wise we got an order of chicken chow mein and lemon chicken. The lemon chicken was ok, it was deep friend like almond chicken and then covered in a lemony sauce. I enjoyed the sauce but the chicken crust although crispy was pretty oily. The chow mein was different than I've ever had. My friend and I were both like "it's white". It was very pale, kind of a white clear sauce I guess. No veggies really and not much flavor... we had to add soy sauce. Entree sizes were not overly generous but not small either. They also had pretty cheap beer, I got a Sapporo for $3.25. I'd go back again for the crab dumplings as I mentioned above... and I hear the General Tsao Chicken and Egg Flower soup is really tasty.

This place has really gone down hill a lot in the past couple of years. The service is bad. My wife and I were there for a few minutes with nobody coming to seat us before I had to go to the kitchen door and knock to get someones attention. Even after that, the service didn't improve. The restaurant is dirty, with dried food stuck to the walls. Also, the food is not good anymore. We ordered the crab won-tons and there was barely any crab in them. For $8, I don't want an appetizer that tastes like I'm eating nothing but a ball of cream cheese. The beef in the beef with oyster sauce was gross. You can tell they buy the cheapest food possible. This place is overpriced for what you get. I used to really like this place, but I won't be going back.

Easily some of the best Chinese around. The owners are warm and friendly, and check in regularly during the meal. The chef often comes out to get feedback, and has a good sense of humor. Good food, slightly Americanized, but very flavorful!

  • Cheol K.

The lunch specials are by far the best deal in town. Soup and entree for just over $5. Good portions and they will spice up your meal to your liking. I think they have the best hot and sour soup in the area in addition to their Kung Pao chicken.

1st Star: For having its own parking lot. No need to share it with other retail stores or shops. 2nd Star: Customer service was great, they were super nice and welcomed us in the restaurant like family 3rd Star: Environment like any Chinese restaurant was inviting, and decorations were awesome...even the hand sewn decorations on the walls....awesome! 4th Star: Food....it was so delish! We had Mongolian Beef, Won Ton Soup, Walnut Shrimp, Garlic Egg Plant, Mandarin Chicken, House Fried Rice, and Beef Chow Mein.....we had a feast...all of it was good and filled me up Lacking 5th star because the Mandarin Chicken was a little to saucy, and the Won Ton soup was a small itty bitty bowl w/ 2 wontons in soup base. It was hella good, but at least give us 3 each! lol. The restuarant could be a little cleaner too. But try it..its the ONLY Asian restaurant around the area that is open on Sunday. LOL.

The egg soup tasted like rahmen soup. The rice they are using is awful. All broken up rice corns. The sauce for the almond chicken is tasteless and stale. The chicken itself as well as the pork extremely dried out. The prawns and the chow mein were ok. We will not be back.

My review is based solely on take out. I love Golden House. Totally worth the 20 minute drive for take out chinese because it is the best in the area. You cant get anything better when you're north of down town seattle. They have the best hot mustard for the BBQ pork! It is so spicy and wonderful, it does not taste like generic store bought mustardy kind. Im hard to please on the hot mustard and this place is like heaven. They also have amazing specials. We get the dinner combo, typically B with a few substitutions. (I really enjoy that they allow subs on a set combo even if I have to a pay a few dollars extra because most places would not) You get a TON of food all for around $40 with tip. A dinner for 2 easily feeds 4 with left overs. They also have the BEST sweet and sour chicken around and honestly the greatest pork fried rice. I have not ever had a better pork fried rice.

We eat here 2-4 times a month. The food is very good. (must be, we keep coming back) We've eaten at many a chineese resturant and there's little comparision to others around.

  • Jeff H.

Just average everything. Decent food, but there are better options in the area. I found the service to be a little on the slow side, dinner prices were higher then the quality of the food justifies, and the portions were smaller then I'm used to in a Chinese place. I've never been in for lunch, but my friend comes in about once a week for a lunch special, and swears by them. I know it's a matter of personal preference, and for my money, Lotus; just down the street is a better play.

Been here a couple of times and still don't understand why the place always seems to be full. Maybe it just too hard to find decent Chinese food North of Seattle? The food is bland and uninspired. I can't really recommend any dish.

It's no secret that my favorite Chinese Food is elsewhere in Everett. (see reviews) But the last time I visited said "favorite", it wasn't even close to as good as I remembered it. Suffering that horrible disappointment, we gave Golden House another try. It's always been good - you know, in a pedestrian kind of way - but this last time? Amazingly good. Really. We ordered the standard "A" for two. Freshly prepared, veggies fresh, hot and crisp, prawns - while kind of small - dipped into a delicate batter and served red hot and delicious. BBQ pork was served ice cold - a pet peeve of mine (prefer room temp) - but flavorful and not at all dry. Man I hate dry BBQ Pork! I'm not one to gush over Wonton Soup, but this was gush-worthy too. Plenty of food and best of all, leftovers for later. Love the leftovers. Nice job Golden House! Grandma and I will be back!

It truly blows my mind that this place has 3 1/2 stars. This place is the epitome of all things wrong with Americanized Chinese food. The food isn't fresh, and the menu reads like something off of Panda Express.... I mean for Christ's sake they give you a fork before they give you a chopstick. Ehhh, maybe they are just tailoring to American taste, but I must say ( bad food) Plus 1 star for friendly service! By the way I am kind of a Chinese food snob. Traveling around Asia has really spoiled me.

I think the Golden House and the Beijing Gardens in Everett have the best tasting Chinese food anywhere that can be found between the Canadian Border and Seattle. I've been here maybe five times for lunch and the food is most excellent! The only reason I docked a point was because of the substantially higher prices at dinner and the sometime spotty service. The lunch specials prices are excellent. The dinner prices are a bit less of a bargain. -------------------------------- Taste: 5.0/5.0 Selection: 4.5/5.0 Serving Size: 3.5/5.0 Prices: Lunch - 5.0/5.0 Dinner - 3.0/5.0 Atmosphere: 4.0/5.0 Service: 3.0/5.0 Parking: 4.0/5.0 Overall: 4.0/5.0 ___________________

Golden House Resturant (Chinese Cuisine) Excellent Chinese restaurant - superior food and service - plenty of choices. My Windermere office is located across the Speedway from the Golden House and I have eaten at this restaurant at least 70 times in the last 10 years (same owners) - alone, with groups, clients, friends and family (lunch and dinner). If you enjoy Chinese food as I do, you will NOT regret eating at this restaurant, trust me. Everyone speaks highly of the Golden House. LOCATION / PARKING: The Golden House (12030 Mukilteo Speedway) is the second building (west side) south of the stop light at the intersection of Mukilteo Speedway and the south entrance to Harbour Pointe in Mukilteo - across the Speedway from Windermere Real Estate. The 4 corners of this intersection include McDonalds and the US Bank (East side) and the ARCO gas station and Bank of American (West side). You must be driving south on the Speedway to access the restaurant as the Speedway is a divided blvd. White building with RED trim. Plenty of parking in the back and on the south side. Wheel chair access. FACILITY: The curbside appearance of the Golden House is very average and may not suggest the variety and quality of the menu nor the service available inside. The interior is decorated in typical Chinese colors and is bright and cheery. But, average. OWNERSHIP/AWARDS: This is a family owned restaurant (husband, wife, cousin and nephew). The food is excellent, service is prompt, and the owners are attentive and personable. The restaurant has been acknowledged as an excellent dinning place by numerous culinary organizations - plaques prominently displayed. MENU: Excellent menu - specialties, appetizers, soups, and poultry, foo young, beef, pork seafood, vegetable & tofu, chow mien & fried rice, and fried rice and noodle soups. Good variety in each category. There is the usual single, family style and House Special dinner combinations and a separate list of LUNCH specials (25 items). The menu identifies "hot and spicy" selections and they use USDA choice flank steak, 98% fat free tenderloin pork and 100% fat free chicken white meat. Takeout is available and common. Wine and bear are available. MONEY: The lunch menu has 25 items, all under $ 8 - nice size servings. Other options from the dinner menu are always available on request at lunch as well. The Dinner menu is mostly $ 8 to $ 12, a few selections to $15 (House Special to $17). Reasonable prices - good value SCHEDULE: The restaurant is open 7 days a week, Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 10:30 pm - 12 noon to 10:30 pm on Sundays.

My first time back since 2006 and the food and service was A+++. I had the same server who charged me an arm and a leg back in 2001. She was friendly, but this time I dare NOT request extra cabbage in my soup. LOL The restaurant was clean for the most part except from the previous diners at another table. Their dishes were still sitting at the table the whole time we ate and I'm sure after we left. My table cloth had a stain on it, but I didn't say anything at all. Overall, I will be returning. Good Food. Golden has redeemed itself.

I do not normally post online reviews, but I felt that I had to create a profile and post this review as a public service. We had not been to the golden house for a couple of years when we decided to have dinner there for our anniversary. The first warning sign was dried-on food sticking to our silverware. We should have left at that point. We made our order, and a few minutes later, the waitress brought our egg flower soup to start us off. I have never seen a worse egg flower soup, IT WAS LIKE A BOWL OF MUCUS. It clung to the spoon as it was lifted from the bowl, leaving 6 or 7 inch streamers slowly oozing back into the bowl. There was nothing in the soup other than some semi translucent "egg" and the clear mucoid broth. truly horrific. Neither of us could even bring ourselves to try a spoonful. If that was the egg flower soup, I shudder to think what the rest of the meal would have looked like. We will never know, because we walked out. We will NEVER be back. Sad, too, because this place used to be wonderful.

This is the closest Chinese food to my house and also the worst. The food is always greasy and the egg foo young always uncooked. chicken always uncooked. The reason we stopped going there was we ordered 3 different items and when they arrived one was not ours. We called the owner and reordered and waited another 15 min to get it. when we got our bill they charged us for the plate that we did not order and was still sitting on the table. We argued for a few minutes and owner called the waiter and called him stupid in front of everyone but did not take it off our bill. It was late and I paid for the 4th plate. needless to say we are not going back. EVER. I tried to give it a 0 star but the min is 1 star

I just ordered three meals to go and all was deep fried ?...no sauce, no vegetable, nothing!!! Nice lady owns it , but truly the worst Chinese place I have ever eaten at...I would say its really not Chinese...just "deep fried secret" I paid $32.00 for a bag of stuff! This is the second time I have been here as well as the last! Also, dirty tables with dirty dishes left over from lunch...Nice!

Don't waste your time or money. All the food taste the same. It does not seem to be fresh either :( We were not happy at all. Go to Tasters if you want the best Chinese in the area.

I am giving this place 3 stars for the flavour of the food and the fast service. I would like to give it more but noticed some things that made me think better of it. Looking around a place as I often to you see things that are cool and fun like all the family pictures on the wall the fish tank ect, What caught my eye was the front of the house. The box of painkiller and flu meds. Also the server was making personal calls and ordering meds ect on the phone. There were many people in the dining room so I thought this was odd. it doesn't give you the sense your server is healthy. All in all the food was good, hot and fast but not special.

Lousy service. Hair in food. Gnats flying all over the place. Dirty, chipped dishes. Dirty condiment bottles. Enough said. I give this place no stars at all. Yuck.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant. My family will not eat any other Chinese food! We've never had a problem with the waitstaff and they have always been polite and served us quickly. The chef has come out to greet us and make sure we are happy with the food. We love the Deep Fried Almond Chicken and Mongolian Beef! I highly recommend this restaurant!!

Went here for the final/last time today. The woman who owns the place appeared to have had a fight or was otherwise upset that she was working or something. Service stunk and she acted like she could care less. She put the water glasses on the table, threw down the napkins, and then the tea cups. I guess we were supposed to put them around the table ourselves. She dumped the tea off and left. Food prices here have gone up anywhere, I would say, from $2-3 per plate. VERY expensive for what other places call a "dinner." Here they are upwards of $14. Ours arrived and while the Mongolian Beef was hot - nothing else was. And, as my husband noted, everything tasted the same. Absolutely NO distinction between dishes. Took forever to get our bill and then they wanted to put our leftovers - all together - in one box. No - we'll have two boxes please. And when I stepped on something underneath our table - it really creeped me out. Will NOT go here again and would recommend you don't go here either.

Great service, great food, fast and friendly. This is not your typical Americanized chinese food it's very light and more traditional. We've tried the tasting menus and individual ordering and have yet to be disappointed. Crab Wontons are by far my favorite. They do have highchairs but they do not have children's cups with lids. For younger kids who love love love chinese food like my daughter but has trouble tipping a glass this is not helpful.

Location? Conveniently located on Mukilteo Speedway. Decor? Super cute. Service? Great. Food? Meh. I was super stoked to try Golden House when my friends and I pulled up and saw that the restaurant looked like a converted house. I was even more excited when we went inside and the place was decorated super cute and ethnic, the owners greeting us warmly, and the customers seemed to be regulars. But, I was kind of disappointed with the quality of the food. For starters, I was with a group of four people total, and we wanted to share "family style" dinners (soup, appetizers, main dish, rice, etc.). Just know that you CANNOT make any substitutions NOR can you get a different family style dinner if you do not have at least two people ordering it. No ifs, ands, or buts...which is kind of annoying when you figure that it probably costs the same amount of money anyway. Me: "We'll have two of the #2 family dinners, and can I get one of the #1 family dinners?" Waitress: "NO. CANNOT." Enough said. We went with a family dinner that included hot and sour soup (pretty good), egg rolls (good but a little oily), fried shrimp (gross), BBQ pork fried rice (okay), sweet and sour chicken (meh), and chicken with vegetables (meh). The fried shrimp was way overcooked in batter and just looked unappetizing. Everything else was edible but wasn't what I'd call "tasty," and it certainly didn't taste authentic, which was disappointing. I guess I'm not sure why I would expect good ethnic food in Washington, but since I'm living here, I'm going to keep trying until I find something good! Looks like I'll have to stick to the International District until I can get up to Vancouver BC!

The food is your typical Chinese American. That's a given but what sets this place apart is the, bar none, worst service possible. The wait staff is rude, lazy, and condescending; after requesting a check and being told to wait, it can take 15 minutes to come; I was charged for extra hot mustard (one table spoon); and after the initial service comes, they refused to come back to the table. If you're in Mukilteo and really need Chinese, give it a shot but don't have expectations. Don't bother to tip. It is completely undeserved.

This is a rip-off restaurant, I ordered a seafood chow mein and expecting seafood, noodle and veggies..it cost $14 for a bunch of noodle and 5 pieces of shrimp, 2 pieces of super thin slices of scallops and 2 pieces of imitated crab, can't barely see any veggies. I called and complained, this is the cashier said "seafood is expensive". I come there for the food and not for the price. Im willing to pay whatever the price for the food & taste I expected.

I'm not sure what's happened here. The general chicken was one of my all time favorites. The past two times I've had it, the breading has been soggy. Before it was crispy and delicious....not sure what has changed? Chef? The prawns had the same issue. Soggy and not much flavor. Also, the brisket with vegetables had terrific flavor the first time we had it. Now, the sauce is different and not as flavorful. I'm not sure if they have changed on purpose but they have lost some of the magic during my recent visits.

As I write this, I'm enjoying Beef Chop Suey, not on the menu, but not a problem here. This is by far the healthiest and most flavorful Chinese food north of Seattle. No grease, no MSG, great taste and fresh ingredients, always. My wife and I found this restaurant 4 yrs ago and have become regulars. Read the awards on the wall from local magazines...this is the real deal!

This place is a jewel in Mukilteo. I am never displeased with the food and the speed of service. One of my favorites is the crispy duck; it is a must try. If you have never tried duck, this would be an excellent place for the attempt. Enjoy!

This is the best chinese restaurant in the area. (not the best chinese food, but best overall experience) Friendly staff. Food is mediocre to very good. The very good being the hakka prawns.

Good service, good food, fair prices, nice selection. Go in a group and order together to share.

Low end Chinese at best. Have been there a few times for events arranged by others which I needed to attend. Would never choose it myself.

Three stars instead of four because I only had one item, the Broccoli Beef Noodle Cake for $8.95++. The "noodle cake" is your typical Cantonese pan fried noodles, crispy on both sides, except here they cut up the noodles to form a "cake", but that's just the literal translation. The noodle soon became soggy with the sauce, but it was still good. And the beef was tender and well seasoned, and marinated deliciously. For us, group of 6 adults and one infant, we were treated very well, tea and water refilled quickly and the chef actually came out to check on our responses on the food quality. My only gripe would be for them not to use stryofoam boxes.

This place is hands down the best chinese food ever! I have been to a lot of chinese restaurants in a couple different states and this one tops them all. Awesome service, food is extremely tasty, and if you are in the neighborhood for lunch they have great deals.

I've gone here a dozen times and ordered takeout several times. It has never disappointed me the food and service is grand. I'm a fan of most items on their menu. The food has awesome flavor

I wanted to celebrate the Chinese New Year, and I was working, and I wasn't going to get off after 9:30pm, so that limited the places I could go to, and decided on Golden House, drove over, and put in my order, and sat down to wait for the meal to come out with a couple of Tsing Tao's to wet my whistle. the order came out in a fair amount of time, I had ordered the house Lo Mein, and got an order of Cashew Shrimp for Mom. The Lo Mein was the blandest I've ever had, it wasn't necessarily BAD, but it was really lacking in seasoing and sauce. the shrimp was bland also, the time before I ordered the Cantonese Shrimp, and there was more celery than anything. The service is passable, and the place is clean, the only thing that realy bugged me was the poor fish, the large Koi is showing signs of mental instability as it's stuck in a tank WAY too small, and without any thing to break up the space. Oh,I give them 2 thumbs up for the homemade dumplings, I will go back for them, they were Super!!

When you order "crispy gau gee mein" and ask for yellow hot mustard, they know you're from Hawaii. Their walnut shrimp dish is delicious. We have not been disappointed with the dishes we have ordered. The staff is friendly and accommodating. We have never ordered the set menus, but those we have ordered have been great. We also appreciate the parking, the cleanliness of the dining area and the overall ambiance of the restaurant. It is understandable that tastes vary but this establishment has never disappointed us. It's good to know they had a restaurant in Honolulu and capture the "local" taste.

Best Chinese restaurant in north of seattle and south of Canada. I have eaten here more than ten times and I have never been let down.

My husband eats lunch here at least once a week because it's close to his place of work. Having a vacation day today, I met him for lunch. I'd have to agree with some of the other reviewers--having your own parking lot these days is worthy of a star on its own. We ordered lunch specials: DH had Happy Family, my son had Mongolian Beef and I had the stuffed tofu. DH eats Happy Family all the time, so I'm assuming it's good. The Mongolian Beef was REALLY good, very flavorful. My stuffed tofu was okay--a little bland, But what I did appreciate is everything isn't over-salted like you find in many Chinese restaurants. Even the eggflower soup had a fresh, light taste. The service was great--but it could be because my DH is a regular. Regardless, I would definitely go here again. It's not super authentic Chinese food you'd get in San Francisco or Vancouver or even Seattle's ID, but it's very good and the service is great. One small note--and I didn't even deduct a star--the bathroom is pretty typical "Chinese restaurant bathroom" aka you would be better off using the facilities somewhere else.

This place reeks mediocre. What is said about the waitstaff is completely true. I've given this place 3 chances over the years to impress me, but it never has. The waiters will often sit around together and ignore customers. I guess they are family and I guess they don't care too much about making money either. To discuss the food it is far from amazing. In fact it is quite bad. When a place doesn't even know how to make white rice properly, you know they have problems. If you like your Chinese food more on the bland and unimaginative side (while lacking traditional flavor). I'd say come to Golden House that quaint little eyesore of the Mukilteo Speedway.

Such friendly service at this Chinese restaurant. It seems as though everyone who walks in the door knows "Charlie." We came to this restaurant after hearing about it through our friends from Hawaii. This place has cake noodle if you're looking for some! I just wish that this place weren't so far away!! Can you please open up another location in Seattle? Seriously...there are no good Chinese restaurants in North Seattle after Doong Kong Lau closed. :(

Ever eaten a meal and wished you wouldn't get full? Just so you could continue eating? My meal at Golden House was just such an experience. A group of 14 friends and family members dined here and the service was friendly and genuine and the food was delicious. The beauty of dining with so many people is that you have the opportunity to order many dishes and sample a bit of each. we must have ordered 12-14 dishes and each one was fantastic. Of particular delectable note was the Cake Noodle, House Special Halibut, Crispy Chicken and Stir Fried veggies. I would list more, but these are the dishes I recognized and remembered. I will add too, that there wasn't a dish that I did not have a second helping of when the plates were passed around again. Highly recommended, just make sure you go with several friends so that you too can have a bit of a bunch and not have to look longingly at the party of five sitting next to you.

I have been going here for 10 years and the food is always hot and fresh the only reason it's not a 5 star is that the service is starting to get a little slow they have this young white boy that has no clue what is going on

This was my 5th dinner visit and it was horrible. First off, ordered the family dinner for three (4 of us were dining and that is too much food). When the chicken chow mein was brought out, the entire contents of the dish were without any color! Zero flavoring was added to the chow mein. What was most amazing is we've eaten this dish many times and it was never prepared this way AND the server didn't take notice of it at all. Sweet and sour pork had no green peppers at all (usually has some, along with the pineapple) and the pork was very tough to chew. BBQ Pork was delicious, Almond Chicken was average, Pork Fried Rice was very, very greasy, but otherwise flavorful. When we received our bill, they decided to charge us for four (an extra $12.95) rather than the three we ordered for, and then also charged us $.50 more per drink than what was stated on the menu. We probably should have said something, but we rarely do because there are so many people out there that complain solely to get items for free, and we can't stand to watch that in an eating establishment. Overcharging by $15 on a dinner bill is inexusable and we will NEVER return to their establishment. That would be considered theft if a patron did that in a restaurant!

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant. The service is usually fast and friendly, and they have the best General Tso's Chicken I've ever had. I'm also addicted to their hot n sour soup. This is a family run business, so it's very personal and warm. My husband loves their Almond Fried Chicken. They offer dinner combinations that are set, and they will also do a dinner combination using any item on their menu, which I think is really nice. They will do substitutions without a problem. This is a good place for family dining.

Golden House is the BEST in the Northend. The prices are a little high but definately worth it. I don't care for Mongolan Beef but my friends tell me it's the best they've ever had. Tender beef..now that's a change from what you usually pay for. I love the Prawns Dim Sum..hugh Prawns steamed with cabbage. Mu Shu Pork is another fav. Rolled up with all kinds of veggies in thin rice wrappers with plum sauce...yumoooo. I have never found the wait staff to be sluggish. It even appears to me that they take the time to learn many peoples names. Either they have a lot of returning customers (which speaks volumes) or they just know everyone that comes in by name..not sure which but it's impressive. OH ..on last must have...try the Crab Meat Dumpling's...crab meat and cream cheese deep fried in thinnest Won--Ton Wrappers you've ever had. That just made my squirters go squirt...ummmmmm good.

This place has the most awful customer service! I found a hair in my food and called it in. A man picked up the phone and told me he would credit me next time. Next time came the lady upfront accused me Of lying and refused to give me credit. I've never been so offended! We argued on the phone as she said it was impossible to get hair in the food. She ended up giving me the meal --though by then it didn't matter. The one star is bc they had decent Mongolian chicken. But after that incident with the free meal, it didn't taste or look the same. It was terrible! I haven't gone back since. I am so disappointed in the customer service and quality that was given to me the last time I was there.

Came here during the snow storm for a late lunch/early dinner. We got lucky and beat the busy rush by about a half hour! As we were there, the owner had called to get the parking lot plowed. Getting into the parking lot is a little inconvenient because you can only turn in from one direction of traffic on the speedway, if you are going the other direction you have to wait at the light and do a U-turn. The food is delicious. The portions are huge; everything you order can be shared. All the food came out hot and fresh. We ordered some soups, fried rice and honey pecan prawns. Probably the best fried rice I've had in this area. The staff is friendly and attentive, although a little hard to understand at times.

I think that I'm finding out that as much as I love Asian Cusine, that Chinese is not my favorite. I had heard absolutely NOTHING bad about Golden House so I decided to stop in here on my way home from orchestra one night. I was having one of my random pregnancy cravings and Chinese sounded good. It's been a while now since that night, so I don't completely remember everything I got. I do know that I got pork fried rice, some sort of shrimp dish, and a chicken dish for Cam. Everything was edible and enjoyable, but obviously not outstanding as we haven't been back since September and I don't even remember what we had. The service was fine, but I did only order to go, so there wasn't much work involved. I would probably stop in here again on my way home if I was feeling in the mood for Chinese, but I won't go out of my way when we do have a Chinese restaurant that will deliver and that we really like closer to home.

  • Edie S.

My husband and I dine here about once a month, as they do not offer delivery. I think the food is very good, but when we've dined here at busy times (usually on weekend evenings), you can tell that the staff is very rushed and sometimes the tablecloths are not as clean as they could be. But, the food is very delicious and the portions are generous, so we come back time and again. We will miss this restaurant when we move away from Mukilteo in the near future.

had take out from here last night. It definitely is no where near as good as I am used to in other Chinese Restaurants. The sizzling rice soup was somewhat tasteless. the fried rice had way too much soy sauce and salt. their special sesame chicken seemed slimey. fortune cookies were even stale. If this is the best Mukilteo has for Chinese I guess I will need to travel further for my Chinese food.

I am part Chinese and I LOVE good Chinese food. If a restaurant falls short I do not return. Golden House is not one of those that disappoint. I have been to Golden House three times already! :) I visited Golden House twice with my mother-in-law and once with my husband and my mother-in-law. All three times were during the lunch special which is a really good deal. At first I was hesitant to even try it out due to some of the Yelp reviews. I am glad I personally gave it a chance! If you are thinking about eating there... so should you. It is worth it. One of the waitresses is so smart too that she asked me if I am from Hawai'i. Yes I am from Hawai'i. She used to live in Hawai'i too so we spoke for a long time. She is very personable and friendly. The service is excellent and so is the food. I asked if I could replace white rice for more broccoli and they were very accomodating. It was extra of course but worth it. The decor is nice with lots of red which I like. I will be back again :)

The worst General Tao's Chicken I have ever had. And I have had lots of it. Talk about soggy breading... gross! Why would you add so much breading to a dish that doesn't really need it at all? Sorry never going back.

  • Robert H.

I would never have thought of going here. Heck, I probably never would have known it existed, but this is girlfriend#2's favorite Chinese restaurant. So, eventually, she took me here one Saturday so I could see what she raved about. Best sizzling rice soup I've ever had! The rest of the meal was very good to. As someone who is used to going to restaurants in the International District, this was much better than I had expected, and they would probably do well in the ID.

Wow, drive by and you will be missing a truly unique and tasty experience. Clean and bright dining room. Pride is the word for this place. The menu is decidedly complete for such a cozy and intimate place. Go and you will be HAPPY with your choice.

Ok sad to say this place has gone down hill! Food is ok but I think they are just over worked! Little things like getting water out of a bucket and not bothering to get ice. Yuck take a vacation!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
