I've been here before and had totally acceptable lunches on the patio, which overlooks part of Leavenworth. However, I was there this past weekend and won't be back. We looked on Yelp for some place else for dinner and opted for Gustavs based on past experience and the fact that we were looking a little grungy after our hike. First, the good: I really enjoyed their fries. My boyfriend's baguette on his prime rib dip looked fine (and he pretty much described it as "fine"). I ordered the Bratwurst Burger. I know I'm being absolutely absent-minded in thinking I'd get a beef patty... but I really wanted a hamburger and a burger topped with saurkraut, grilled onions, and swiss on a pretzel bun sounded pretty dang good. Sadly, it came with a sausage patty instead of beef. I know I should have thought of it, but it would be nice if Gustav's could add "sausuage patty" to the description. There were also fruit flies and house flies buzzing around us the whole meal. I know it's tough to avoid in the summer time and am usually pretty cool about flies.. they happen. But it was so distracting and I was so annoyed. Our waitress was pretty MIA... They sit you, wait until you've had a chance to look at the menu, and then bring out water and take your order at the same time. Would be nice to sip water while I was looking at the menu. Lastly, my subpar burger was $9.50 on its own and my boyfriend's prime rib dip was $11 and change. And we had to pay $5 for a basket of fries between us after that?? Fries should come with the meal. I would have paid a few bucks extra and probably not felt quite as ripped off. I'm not going to Gustav's again. There are other places in Leavenworth that will take my money.

We decided to stop by this place for lunch during our trip to Leavenworth. Mistake #1. I was in the mood for some German food, so it seemed like I was in the right place! Service was slow. To be fair, it was just a few weeks before Christmas, and that town gets unbelievably slammed during the Christmas season. We expected service to be slow. I ordered a bockwurst sandwich with fries, and my dining partner ordered the bratwurst burger with fries. The food tasted okay. About 2-3 hours later, we realized our mistake. Oh god, the horror. Stomach cramps from HELL - for both of us. It's not a case of "Yeah, cabbage will do that to you!" Alas, no, we eat sauerkraut all the time and this doesn't happen to us. That was .. wow. So bad. Never again. Nope. NOOOOPE.

A must-eat when going to Leavenworth!

Stopped by for drinks, we asked to sit up stairs, girl didn't want to walk upstairs to see if seats were open. After a few mins, she took us. Asked the waitress for full beer menu, she said, I'm going to be honest with you, I don't want to go down stairs to get you a beer, so order what we have up stairs. Sweet deal! So that's what I said about her tip!

They need to hire more waiters. Service took so long, even to get starting ice water, because our waitress was working too many tables of huge parties. Once she finally got to us, service was pretty good (but the kitchen was slow, as we expected by that point). I ordered a bratwurst on a gluten free bun. For some reason, silly ol' me expected it to come on a hot dog bun. Nope! A big meh bratwurst and quite good saurkraut on a quite good gluten free hamburger bun. At the time I wished I had ordered a burger because the gf bun was so soft and nice, but reading other reviews I'm glad I didn't. My bratwurst was clearly boiled, and as all their wursts are GF, there was no cross contamination. Seat cushions could do with a going over, and the carpeting should be replaced soon. Bathrooms were ok.

I loved the atmosphere, mostly the idea of being warm inside while the cold of the winter raged on outside. The staff was wonderful, and I really enjoyed my hot wine, (I don't remember the German name for it). As for food, the tomato bisque and the pickle was my favorite. I am not big on meat, so I ordered a grilled tomato and cheese, and it was just ok. I couldn't finish it, because there was just too much cheese, but if you like lots of gooey cheese, you might just love it! I'm only giving it a 3 star because they don't have very many vegetarian, vegan and healthy choices.

Stopped here yesterday, I have been here many times and thought I should add my 2 cents. I ordered the Ruben sandwhich and it was probably one of the best ones I have ever had. Service was a bit slow but our waitress was super nice.

Wesley and I decided to go on a mini road trip to Leavenworth. After some hiking and exploring the town, we decided to go somewhere to eat and drink and watch the Seahawks play. We decided on this place because Wesley's parents always go here whenever they go to Leavenworth. I ordered the Pepperjack burger. It wasn't very spicy at all, but it was good. The red pepper was kind of soggy and I didn't really like that. Wes had the Italian burger. We shared an order of fries as well. For $5, they gave enough fries for two guys. Their selection of beer was good! I had the Irish Death and it was probably one of my favorites I've had so far (I just turned 21, so I'm still new to alcohol haha)! The atmosphere was pretty chill too. But the Seahawks won, so yay! The service was all right. Nothing extraordinary. If definitely come back here next time I go back to Leavenworth!

I always have one dinner here when I'm in Leavenworth. It's casual and unpretentious, but the sandwiches are always good, and the fries are exceptional. The bar has a good selection of on tap beers. It's also very convenient, as it is a short walk from the Enzian, and the shops on Front St.

The food left much to be desired but the server we had was great. She had short brown hair and was clearly getting slammed but handled it in stride. As a long time former server I noticed she didn't miss a beat. Ya, she couldn't get to us right away, we waited to order BUT she stopped by, acknowledged us, explained she would be with us in a couple minutes and was. Her hands were full but she called in a hostess to have our drinks refilled. She made sure we had what we needed. I wouldn't recommend the burger there and the side salad was major lame (lettuce with a slice of onion and 2 cherry toms) BUT I can't not recommend this place.

We gave Gustav's a second chance this year. Unfortunately the results were not any better. To begin with, I witnessed the hostess rudely chastise a couple that started to seat themselves. Poor things, she was blocking the 'hostess will seat you' sign so it's no reason to be snarky! As usual, the children ordered the French Dip sandwiches & fries. Bland sand & greasy fries & sloooow service. I won't be back for a third visit.

Walking around the town of Leavenworth is quite an experience. It's a near replica of a Bavarian town straight from the Alps. We were hungry and saw this nice looking restaurant that has table seating on their outdoor patio on the roof. Let's go. Walking in the restaurant was a little dark, but my eyes quickly adjusted. Signs greeted us saying "Please Wait To Be Seated". We had to wait a minute or so for someone to acknowledge us, and direct us upstairs to be seated. We walked out on the patio and chose our table. Excellent view, clean tables and chairs and what a view. Service was quick and very friendly. They have a good selection of German beer, which our waitress had out quickly. The food was very good. The Brat came out hot and covered with kraut. The fries are cut freshly and had great potato flavor. The meal was exactly that. A meal. Overall, it is a good restaurant with great service and definitely worth eating at if you can sit outside upstairs. If you want to simply sit indoors and get an good meal, the town is full of those types of restaurants.

Feb 2014 visit: This is one of the 2 best places in Leavenworth. Yes, the inside wood decor looks a little off but it's clean. It was pretty slow when we visited. We sat at the bar. The bartender was great. He was very knowledgeable about the menu, beer, drinks, and the events in the local area. The food was tasty and it was reasonably priced.

  • Mariya K.

I've been coming to Leavenworth for years and decided to check the place out. The food was okay (simple and unsophisticated) though a little overpriced. But my biggest issue was the staff; they were rather unfriendly, and never apologized for screwing up our order. Instead they just informed us that they messed up and we'd have to reorder. I feel like most of the staff is untrained high school girls. When I got up to use the restroom during the meal, I noticed that all the waitresses were just sitting around the cash register texting. While that didn't affect me, I find that highly unprofessional.

This was my second place at Gustav's. the fries I think are the best thing ever. the burgers are the second best. the fries are even good as leftovers.

Always make this a yearly stop during a long 4 day weekend! It's all about timing, you can beat the rush. Leavenworth operates on a schedule, so it's easy to predict when the crowds will hit...

    (5)
  • Dolene B.

We have stopped here many times. The food is good, but the service is lacking. The servers are much more interested in discussing their social lives than serving. It is pretty bad when the workers are noisier than the customers.

  • Mallory M.

Fantastic place to eat in a fantastic town. The wait was short even during peak hours and the veggie burger was amazing. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the price was $10 for a burger and it didn't come with a side. A bit pricey for a burger if you ask me, but good nonetheless.

We went here twice over the course of the holiday weekend. The first visit was for a nightcap after dinner. The bartender was FABULOUS! He whipped up a drink based on what kind of flavors I like and was so on point with all of our needs all night. The atmosphere was lively, but not too loud. After scoping out a bunch of restaurants and bars in town, we opted to watch the big Seahawks game at Gustavs. We were the first in line before the doors opened, and even though a few people pushed past us once they did unlock that door - our waitress sat us at the best table and took our drink orders first. She was AMAZING ALL DAY! The restaurant was packed and crazy, yet she kept on top of our needs (food, shots, drinks, shots!) with impeccable timing, energy and humor. The food was good too! I had the tomato and grilled cheese sandwich with basil tomato soup - delish! And their fries are the bomb - real, fresh potatoes! This place had the absolute best service of any place we went, all weekend long. We'll definitely be back!

The Bratwurst burger was a curiosity when I ordered it; I was unsure. But I am so glad I tried it....amazingly good and a new favorite!

Upon entering Gustav's restaurant, it felt like walking into Pinnochio's house from Disney! The cabin lodge feel was very rustic and warm. The place seems very kid friendly and popular with families. We came for drinks and bar food. My fiancée was a fan of the specialty brewed beers. I tried the Blueberry Lemonade cocktail which was disappointing and too watered down. The hand cut fries were fresh and delicious! However, we were not fans of the onion ring batter as it tasted of frozen quality. Service was quick and friendly and the atmosphere was very casual and relaxing

  • Lea J.

Disappointed, brats were tasteless and servers seemed inexperienced. Were never asked to refill drinks. Seemed like a place for all the snow bunnies to work in summers.

    (2)
  • Tommy S.

The upstairs patio is nice in the summer, and the food is reliable burger/beer/brat type fare. The sandwiches don't come with a side, so you may want to order something to go with it - the 1/2 order of fries is plenty for two people. The prices are really fair for what you get. On my last visit I ordered a special - a burger with a patty made of bratwurst, on a pretzel bun, with sauerkraut. It was quite good. The staff was friendly and offered good service. When my coke was down to 1/4 full, the waitress brought a second glass without even having to ask.

  • Ariel Z.

Best veggie burger I have ever had. I come from seattle just for it! It is fresh and made in house. Service has always been great and nice view from the outdoor seating upstairs!

  • Ken S.

After a hot day in the sun, we were after a nice cold beer, but sadly the beer selection was really disappointing. We thought the a "German" village would have lots of import beers. The menu was basic and food came out OK. Service was also OK, but it was really hot out there on the patio so I didn't expect them to be perky. The big bummer was that on our way out we noticed dozens of beers on tap in the bar - which were not available to us up on the patio. It would have been nice to at least be told about the options at the bar. We left disappointed.

Great spot Great bar food and lots of German beers on tap It doesn't matter what time of year

  • Eric D.

We were there earlier this summer, it took me a few seconds to remember this place that I started this review: "When you order a beer, get a 22 ounce". Because it'll give you something to do while you're waiting. The food was okay but we've comparatively ate much better in Leavenworth. I didn't like the service and will be going to another place next time.

  • Gloria,Andrew M.

Diner food for sure! Tasty but not authentic Bavarian. Reasonably priced for the area. Great for family dinning, friendly service. We enjoyed our burgers! In the winter time during the tree lighting festival this place is always packed!

This is my favorite places to eat at here in Leavenworth. Best foods, best drinks, awesome staff. If you stop here ask for Jennifer an excellent waitress. You can sit outside on the top floor was too hot the day we were there. Open for lunch and dinner. Burgers and salads and a well stocked bar. This place deserves more than 5 stars!!!!!!!!

    (5)
  • Lee S.

Food was adequate but patio location and mist machines keeping it bearable made the meal. Service was good and waitress was pleasant and helpful. Wish the two dads would have controlled their kids but otherwise a pleasant experience.

Seated quickly, hostess was very nice to our group, and we sat in the bar area. Menus were brought promptly and the bartender was also our server. She was wonderful to us. We got there about 3pm and ordered drinks, I think HH started at 3:30pm so we ordered another round at HH prices along with some appetizers. Great experience and beer selection. Would definitely go back. I wouldn't order the mac and cheese appetizer again but the hand cut fries were great.

Party of eight seated quickly on a Saturday night. Good service, fresh tasty pub food and good selection of cold bets on tap. Ortega burger was a winner and so was the Caesar salad and fish and chips.

What kind of German restaurant doesn't have schnitzel, spätzle or dornfelder wine?? It was almost all burgers. Tasty but disappointing.

This was our regular stop when riding through Leavenworth. We came here because... 1. It's easy to find. 2. Generally never an issue to get seated. 3. They have an outdoor deck. 4. The menu is just large enough that everybody gets fed. Unfortunately, the food is just kind of blah and a little on the spendy side. I suspect this is the tourist tax, but doesn't mean I enjoy paying it. I would give this place 4 stars if it wasn't for the blah and $. Service, though, is generally pretty friendly. We've rolled in 15-20 deep and they were able to make a whole new section for us.

  • Angie H.

First off this place was open past seven! This town closes early. We had our kids with us so the bars were not an option. We also didn't want to pay $20+ for a meal. This is a simple burger, brat and beer place. The brats were good. The burgers were fine. The fries were awesome as the onion rings. The dessert was great too. Our food came in less than ten minutes. I don't give five stars unless everything is from scratch. This is a good safe place to eat.

  • Matt C.

This is a great place to grab some comfort food in Leavenworth. The prime rib dip was delicious. The bread was perfectly cooked and sopped up the smoky, flavorful au jus. The grilled cheese was perfectly cooked as well. All of the fries are hand cut daily, a half order is more than enough for 2. Our server was attentive, interested in us, and very helpful with the menu. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars, is the menu seemed a bit limited, but I think if you go looking for burgers, sandwiches and beer, it will have just what you need. We also enjoyed their seasonal cocktails. We will be back!

  • Sara M.

This place is on the high side but somehow still very much worth it! $63 for lunch (after tip) for three people is more than I care to spend but we were on 'vacation' and it really was a great meal. For that price we ordered two side salads @ $5 each, one Lemonade @ $3 (pretty sure it was fresh squeezed) two French Dip sandwiches w/cheese @ $12.50 each, one fish sandwich @ $9.50 and a 1/2 order of fries @ $3.50 and there was NO room for dessert. We have been here a handful of times and will continue because bottom line, it's really good food each and every time. The server (Catlin) was VERY good too. We had a lot of little requests and she met them all with a smile and happy attitude.

  • Rich S.

Was there last weekend. Did not see the hostess sign and went to upstairs deck where half the tables sat empty. Hostess came up asking if we checked in. apologized for not seeing sign as we looked at empty tables. he said would let slide this time. when our wives showed they came up and said could not sit with us??? they took sausage plate off the menu in a German pub???

We went to Gustav's the night we arrived in Leavenworth. I loved the themed decor. The place was really cute and helped get me in the mood for Little Bavaria. But then our server came to our table. She was rude and incredibly unhelpful. This bummed me out, but I tried to let it slide. Sure, she delivered our beer and food, but she was not even slightly personable. I was sorely disappointed by this. As for the menu, it was pretty lame as well. The only Bavarian options were the German sausages. Though Gustav's is cute and beckons you from its corner location, I don't plan to go back and would never suggest it to a friend. There are much better places to stop in the heart of the shopping district.

  • A E.

So very disappointed. I have actually been to Gustav's a few times. Their service has always been very, very slow. This past weekend however took it to a whole new low. I went with my husband and our two toddlers (2&4). We were seated outside on the sun deck and the waiter was actually very nice however as my two year old was sitting down in her seat it tipped over backwards and she smacked her head on the ground. What shocked me was how there were three employees out on the deck who witnessed it, I looked right at them and they all turned and ran inside. Not one came over to ask us if everything was ok nor offer ice for the HUGE black and blue lump forming on my daughters head. They then proceeded to avoid coming over for almost 15 minutes. I'm amazed that a business would just ignore someone hurt on their premises. We will not be returning.

The place offered a very limited menu and I found it to be expensive (but normal compared to Leavenworth). We tried some of the beer and finger foods but it all seemed to be average, generally more sandwiches and burgers. Our bartender was really great and went out of his way to make sure that it was a good experience for us and paired our drinks accurately.

    (3)
  • Mandy C.

Ok place. The menu is pretty limited and somewhat pricey. I was hoping for something a little more authentic than burgers and fries since it was my first time there and the only thing I could find remotely close to that was the sausages on their menu, so I opted to order the Bockwurst. It was ok as well. I failed to understand why a place named Gustavs served mostly burgers and sandwiches. Maybe I was building the name up to more than their actual menu? But I must say, my dad's 'Gustav's Burger' looked mighty good. The next time we go there I'll be sure to order that instead.

A long wait for tables that were open upstairs. Waitress was nice, food was awful. Brat tasted very strange, and mine was cold. My friends brat w/ pretzel bun was terrible, and 2 other friends at our table tried it and couldn't eat it. This place was jammed with unsuspecting patrons. Would never recommend this place, 80. for 5 for lunch. Beware

Ate here twice - once on the way outbound to Chelan, and then on the way back to Seattle. Food was good. However, my daughter noticed that a female staff member did not wash her hands after #2 in the bathroom. Gross. We mentioned it to the manager and even pointed out the staff member, and the manager acted like it was no big deal and did not take any corrective action. Will never eat here again.

This is my hometown favorite. Everytime I come back to Leavenworth, I make visting this spot a top priority. The decor and ambiance are very homely, outdoorsy and inviting. The winter time is my favorite time of the year to go here, especially now that they have expanded the establishment. You can watch the football game while you devour the most delish brats. The french dip is a personal favorite of mine and you can never go wrong with their fries. This place is cozy, like a cabin in the mountains. LOVE!

Family friendly, all-American fare. Average burgers, horrible fries, typical service, and typically priced. Not a place I'd go out of my way to go to, unless I wanted to eat a burger in a chill environment. The burgers are all well-done, not made to order. SUPER well-done, like to the point of charred and burnt. The fries were also burnt. I recall reading another review that mentioned this and now I know what they are talking about. Not like crispy crunchy burnt. But like coated in a dark gray/blackish coloring that you initially think is seasoning but is actually gross burnt-ness from God knows what. $10 for a meh burger and just a few (like 7 or 8) burnt fries? No thank you. I'd rather find a Red Robin where the burgers are $8 and the fries are bottomless. P.S. The beers my friends ordered--mac and jack--tasted off and they had to send them back.

We went for lunch as a group of 9. Service was slow, even though the place was not full. Waiter got one of the orders wrong and when we brought that up, he was rude. The replacement meal took so long that the rest of us were completely finished with our meal. None of the food was very impressive, add the treatment from the waiter and we will not be returning here.

Gustav's wasn't exactly what we were expecting. My boyfriend and I went in looking for some good, solid fish and chips, but came out pretty disappointed. The halibut was fine, though nothing special - it was clearly just frozen fish quickly fried and served. The fries were...well, very bland. They looked like they would taste fantastic, but they literally had no flavor and only tasted good with a generous amount of salt poured over them. I also had the tomato bisque soup which was good - kind of hard to screw up something like that. The one bonus: It was nice to see Thomas Kemper Root Beer on tap - delicious! The prices were a bit high for some of the items. Beer prices were decent, but food prices were too high, in my opinion, especially considering what you got in return. Our waitress was nice enough, but the service was lacking a bit. Overall...I just wasn't happy with our lunch here. We both agreed that we wouldn't be back.

Best place in Leavenworth for an American MicroBrew. Now granted you shouldn't be coming to Leavenworth for American beers, this is a German town for god sake. But the interior is totally reminiscent of log cabin you'd find in a ski village at Lake Tahoe. Really cool interior and plenty of space either at the bar or restaurant upstairs. We went during the winter time and enjoyed sitting by the fireplace downstairs. The food was just OK, otherwise I'd give them 5 stars. Start off at the Munchen Haus down the street for a Bratwurst and a traditional German beer or two. When you've had your fill of German food and ambiance, come here for some great regional micro brews of the Pacific Northwest. They have some great German inspired American Micro brews.

Who doesn't enjoy a big, juicy brat in their mouth on a cold day in leavenworth? Ok well I didnt have a brat but my friends did. I had a cheeseburger and I have to say 1) it's a good thing I shared it with my other friend because 2) I would have ate the whole thing it was so good! Fries were natural cut fries and they were delicious too. Topped it off with acouple of pitchers of beer and you got yourself a good time! Service was really great and friendly too!

The food was terrible. One of our party had a milk allergy and they were not sure what had milk in it. They brought us a binder with the labels of all the ingredients they buy. Not a single thing in that place is made fresh. It is all bought prebreaded and they just deep fry it. Had the rest of us not ordered we would have left. They did buy us our beers, but overall I would not eat there again!

Got here expecting a cool vibe, which I have been lucky enough to experience on my trip here to Leavenworth. However, this place has no warm feel to it all. Bartender was lame.

Ate there three days in a row. Enough said? No, okay then. The brat wurst, hamburger, onion rings, French dip was perfect (Eaten over three days) :) The people working there are very friendly. I am allergic to shell fish so it is nice to have a place that does not serve something that I could die from. It puts my mind at ease knowing they do not even have it in their kitchen.

We enjoyed eating outside on the deck. I had the prime rib dip sandwich. It was very good but a bit on the small size. Our server was very good and the food came quickly. Burgers, brats, sandwiches, salads and beer. You get the idea.

There's some hatin' goin on for this restaurant...what's the deal? It's located in a primo spot, with beautiful wooden interior paneling and a grand staircase. I did find the menu to be a little limited, but that doesn't mean I didn't like my Gustav burger any less. I sampled some of their Alaskan Halibut and Chips, very tasty. This place has a very family-oriented, laid-back feel to it. I think it just has beer and wine, no liquor. I would come here again.

the food is yummy but the service was terrible. i found left over fries in my plate between the paper and the plate. this place should be closed by the health department. they are just giving used plates to other customers. terrible restaurant with decent food!. i hope they get shut down and learn from that and serve safe food.

SPORTS FANS HATERS!! I've been going to Leavenworth in December every year for over a decade. This year when I went into Gustav's Sunday afternoon to get some food and watch a bit of football I was in for a rude surprise. The manager informed me that they would not turn on the TVs to any sports, even if it wasn't a Seahawks or other football game. No Sports period! Isn't this place a sports bar, seriously!! The manager went on to tell me the owner said that sports fans don't spend enough, and he wants to get people in and out as quickly as possible to make as much $$$ as possible during busy weekends. Avoid this place if your a sports fan. Plus the food is over priced, even for the tourist trap that it is.

We rolled in on a Sunday right after Oktoberfest. The place was not very busy but there appeared to be a lot of people working. The host greeted us and then asked if we wouldn't waiting five or ten minutes. Eventually we were led to a half-empty dining room where we got a booth, and then waited another few minutes for some water and a couple of menus. The menu was limited and not very creative. I ordered a burger and asked for it medium rare, but the server said with a hint of condescension "No. It'll be fully cooked." Everything is a la carte, so I ordered fries as an appetizer. We waited quite a while for the food to come out. No one refilled our waters even though the host and two other servers walked by and smiled at us several times. The basket of fries came out with the sandwiches (I'd requested they come out first), but were dreadfully disappointing. They were soggy, and tasted strangely bitter and burnt, like they'd been cooked in bad oil at too high a temp (definitely not worth the $5). The burger was ok and it was hot, but was overpriced for what it was. We didn't see our server again until after we'd finished and waited a while for the check. The service was not good and overall the place is not a good value. Skip it and go to a sausage and beer garden.

our waitress was terrible. None of our drinks were ever refilled and she took forever. The food was good. The place is nice. Good all around but pricey and the minute is VERY limited. So those two things make me give it 3 out of 5 stars. BUT it wasn't too busy and we were seated quickly. Would I go again? Possibly.

The food was great, and the service was perfect. I lived near Hamburg for two years and I was very happy with the food.

I'm not impressed. The waitress was SO nice, so props to her, I wanted to like it, but, I ordered no pickles on my burger, and it came with pickles. That's one of those things where when you pick it off, still tastes like it. I loved the hand cut fries, but that was pretty much the only thing I loved about Gustav's. I wanted to like it, I really did, because of it's great location and the cute exterior of the building. It's pretty cramped inside (then again, we were there Oktoberfest weekend) and other than the fries, food was not impressive. Aside from the aforementioned pickles, my burger had a rubbery texture and I couldn't finish it.

I feel like I should apologize to Gustav's for the inexplicable poor reviews that people have given this establishment. I can understand a tinge of deceit if you walked into a place named Gustav's expecting a German restaurant. But you have to remember, it's Leavenworth - more fake than a boob job, more gimmicky than Carrot Top. The majority of people who actually go to Leavenworth are pretty clueless tourists with screaming kids in tow. And to set the record straight. THE FRIES AREN'T BURNT. They are dark in color, like they should be. Do they taste burnt? Nope. Go to western Europe some time, you'll figure it out. The fries are actually fantastic, comparable to some of the best pomme frites from the Netherlands and Germany that I've had. The burgers and sandwiches are well above average, especially some of the more creative ones like the Ortega burger - the "dried" fresh salsa is genius, it spreads on the burger without soaking the bread. The tap list is great with small craft brewers like Big Al's. The only disappointing part is they don't have real imported German weissbier on tap... only a lager. Pyramid Hefe is not a substitute for a good Franziskaner or Weihenstephaner hefeweissbier For me, Leavenworth is a bathroom break while traveling between Seattle and Lake Chelan, but if I want to stop for a good meal without the fake, Gustav's is a great choice.

Stopped in here while in Leavenworth and ordered the fish & chips. Bleeh. It was soggy and unappetizing. Probably won't order that again. The spinach salad was tasty.

What a joke. It's Friday night of the Christmas lighting festival. The wait is about 15 minutes. The place is packed. It's gotta have good food right? WRONG. We had our 7 month old and saw many other kids so it looked like a good choice for us. It took 15 minutes for our waiter to come over to us. Therefore we order drinks and dinner together. I ordered the only "European" thing on the menu. A bratwurst. My wife got the fish and chips. 10 minutes later he brought our food out in plastic baskets. The fish was frozen 10 minutes ago and had so much grease on them you can see your face in it, she ate 2 pieces and wanted to throw up. The fries looked good cause they are homemade, oh wait they burnt them so bad it was like eating a log out of the fire. The bratwurst was wrinkled and had about 39lbs of sauerkraut on it, it was pretty worthless and I could have gotten better out of safeways frozen food section. The service was meh, no one there seemed very exited about working or serving. The only reason for 2 stars is because they had my favorite beer in the world on tap, Jubelale. The name "Gustav's" is a disgrace because this is nothing but a grease trap sports bar perfect for your screaming 7 year old kid.

We tried various other more "authentic" places, but they were packed out the door (we were in town for the Ale Festival). The beer selection here was quite good. I got an amber ale on nitro (which is a rarity) that was brewed by Hale's. Food was mainly generic pub fare (burgers, fish & chips, etc.) it was OK, not great. Our service was quite good and our food was brought out disturbingly fast. I'm just incredibly lukewarm on this place, the German food options are sparse. Beer is above average, though.

On a hot summer day in Leavenworth, I came into Gustav's. The AC is a god send. I was coming in here for a rest of long shopping day. The beer was great and the food was good too (except the fries, it's on the soft side). I can see myself coming back here during winter time. BTW, I loved all the deco in this restaurant. Very charming! Last but not least, great service.

Good points...outdoor deck with mountain view, french fries, friendly service. My ruben was dry and uninteresting.

Great view from the upstairs patio. We did wait to be seated about 20 minutes but it was the lunch rush on a Sunday so that really was not bad. All were friendly why we waited and through service. Once seated our server was friendly and prompt. She offered recommendations, we went with the Brat and in house cut fries. No complaints from me. I thought the price was reasonable. I highly recommend and would grab a beer and wait for that outside view.

You would think for being the first place you see coming into town it would be a great option for food, you would think. This IS NOT a German restaurant at all. It is a burger joint/pub with a German name. The menu was extremely lacking in options and the food not very tasty. I paid $9.75 for a pepper jack burger that came loaded with onions and not much else. My bun was burnt as were the 15 fries on my plate. When I asked about getting some fresh fries they told me that is how they come, burnt. Sure enough my wife's and mom's fries were burnt as well. I decided I was not going to pay 6 dollars for a beer so I just ordered water, it was served to us in a pitcher with 4 PLASTIC cups for us to pour ourselves. Really? Plastic cups?? The most surprising thing though may have been the kids meal I paid almost 6 bucks for. It was 4 frozen and fried chicken strips. No sides, no drink, no dessert, just 4 chicken strips. What kind of place serves a kids meal with no drink option AND charges you 6 bucks for it? While this may be the first place you see in town, it should definitely be your last option for food.

A fun casual restaurant experience. It's labeled as a German restaurant, but everybody but me was able to get burgers and such. My motto is when in Rome........ Service was great, atmosphere was very nice too. Food was OK....not fantastic, but not bad. It felt more like quick version of sausage and kraut rather than truly slow cooked home made German versions. Prices were pretty inexpensive, making it a good tradeoff between food quality and wallet reduction properties. The decor of the place was very festive. It would be a perfect place to visit during an Oktoberfest. :-D

After spending over an hour and a half in the car on our way to Spokane Gustav's couldn't have appeared at a better time, my family and friends were all parched and in desperate need of a beverage. Their beer selection was fantastic and our waitress did a phenomenal job of recommending and describing the different beers. THE VIEW! Fantastic and absolutely breathtaking, their upper deck overlooks highway 2 and you can see the majestic mountains and the beautiful river. LOVED IT! The one negative I would say is the prices were a bit up there for simple dishes but I suppose it is a tourist town so its to be expected. Food was yummy and I'd definitely recommend it to others.

We came to Leavenworth for a visit for a few days. We were pretty hungry and decided to stop by this place. I've been here a few years ago and I remember that this was a good experience. We order a salad and soup. The salad was blend, the spinach was not washed, and tasted kind of dull. I got the feeling that they just took a bag of spinach from the fridge and through some of it on the plate. We decided not to order the rest as you can usually tell the quality of a place by looking at how they cook simple courses like a salad. Overall below average experience.

My Fault, should have loooked at Yelp before going. Menu was limited. Very expensive. Had the Prime Rib dip special. Greasy bun and Arby's quality wafer meat. Only had 3 Bites. Service was slow too. Glad we went to Mile post 111 in Cashmere after. Had to buy 2 sets of meals but the milepost was fantastic!

Live nearby and went here with visiting friends. Definitely a place we will bring more friends to. Cool atmosphere. Cozy and warm feeling. Our server was right on. she was there just the right amount and got everything perfect. Super friendly and helpful. Friday night - We would have had to wait about 15 to sit outside but no wait for inside. I had a margarita that was really tasty. Food was good. My husband and I gave it a b+ to a- . He had a big juicy Reuben and I had a large salad. Not the place to come if you're looking for German food but great for sandwiches, salads, burgers. We will go back for sure. looks like a fun place to watch a football game.

We ate here for dinner. My husband got a Reuben that came piping hot, full of melted Swiss cheese and on perfectly grilled rue bread. The horseradish was robust and got washed down with a German Dark Lager. My burger was topped with Canadian bacon and Swiss...delicious!!! Our basket our fries, which we shared, were hand cut and came with a tasty tarter sauce. Sandwiches cost about $10 and the large fry basket wa $5.50. Overall a good price, right about where it should be. We'll go here again!

My boyfriend and I got into Leavenworth pretty late Friday night and after fighting after-work traffic up Hwy 2, we were stoked to find a hoppin' place open late enough for us to grab a bite to eat!! The atmosphere is pretty sweet; I love all the wood worked furniture. We tried some new brews from the beer selection (accidentally, actually! I ordered a Mac & Jack's expecting an Amber but got the spicy African Amber - a fun surprise!) I had a grilled cheese sandwich and my boyfriend had the cheeseburger. I liked the sandwich but the green chili was a little much for me. I think the spicy beer and spicy sandwich combo wasn't too kind to my stomach, but I pulled it off and at the rest of it very happily. Cool place, young crowd, and laid-back waitstaff. Perfect for what we needed! Thanks Gustav's!!

I hate Leavenworth the town, but I was there to eat and drink beer between hikes in the Icicle Creek Valley and I wanted to sit outside and drink beer....is that to much to ask? The climate here is high desert and the temps frequently are very hot, but finding a place to sit outside and have a beer and burger was alot harder than it should be in this BS town. The service here was actually good for my buddy and I so I didn't see the bad service the other reviewers were referring too. We got to sit on the deck and have a few Hef's while sitting in the sun. LOVED IT! Small deck though so good luck when they are busy..... Why does this town not have more outdoor seating? The general emphasis on shopping here makes my skin CRAWL...YMMV

I generally give good reviews but skip Gustav's if you're looking for a good burger. Greasy dry fries, overcooked burger, over priced, soso service. Good local beers.

  • Thomas J.

Every time I've eaten here it's been after a few days of hiking, climbing, biking, and/or camping. I can pretty much guarantee that people who don't like the food here haven't worked up an appetite - if the extent of your warm-up for the gut-bomb you are about to enjoy was parking your car and looking at cuckoo clocks, maybe you should be thinking about a salad. Or maybe a change in lifestyle. Oh yeah. I went there. The beer is good, and cold, and the onion rings are crispy circumferences of deliciousness. The fries come in an enormous basked of homemade goodness, and the cheeseburger was piled high with fresh onions and pickles. It's an honest cheeseburger. Who knows? Maybe the food here is horrible and I'm just insanely hungry every time I'm in Leavenworth. But I've always left satisfied and happy. But there really is no substitute for a basket of fries and onion rings after a 14 mile hike in paradise.

This place sucked. Do not go here. The tables were sticky. My chicken sandwich was bland and gross. The fries were icky. The only redeeming quality to this place is their beer, which is brewed by Hales. Don't go here. I'm warning you. If you want bland, unimaginative food, then go here. But I don't think you drove two hours for this garbage.

They were alright. It took the young hostess a while to say hi, it wasn't until the senior hostess came by and told her that we were waiting that she even said hello. We had been standing in the empty entryway for several minutes while she made eye contact but ignored us. The food was good. Fries were good, greasy but good. I had the pepper jack burger which was yummy. My fiancé had the French dip, which he said could have benefitted from some cheese. Overall good food. Service could use a bit of help.

We stopped for dinner on a chilly Tuesday around 5:30. We had the pick of tables so we sat across from the large cozy fireplace. The lodge atmosphere was homey and the waitress was really sweet to our toddler. It was a little odd to have a large flat screen on the dinning room wall but it was muted so no biggie. The food was decent and we got our meals for the happy hour prices of 7.50 each. The burgers were average but the hand cut fries were really tasty. I'd eat here again for a quick casual meal.

We got to sit on the top deck which gave my mom and I great views of the town and the hills. I had a hamburger which was pretty good, homemade french fries which were out of this world (and I never say "out of this world" so it must be good in order for me to say that), and a darn good Leavenworth IPA. Also, my mom really liked her brautwerst. The food and the view was an awesome combination. I am not going to knock any points, but we were not too happy with the waitress we had. While she wasn't overly rude to us, when a woman asked for her pickles the waitress snapped, "I already ordered it. You will get your pickles." This while the woman was a little more than half way through her sandwich. Not a good idea to snap at your customers in front of everyone. Zipzap Zubidy Bop!

This is not German food. Do not be fooled. We came here after wanting to enjoy a German style meal. You know, red cabbage, sauerkraut, schnitzel, and the like. This place is a burger joint. And the burgers were not great. Our large party was pretty disappointed in our food. The burgers and chicken fell flat. The fish and chips were so-so. The beer was the only good thing about this place. I could easily see sitting here and just drinking their nice selections but everything else about this place is disappointing. It was easy enough to bring the kid with us. The wait was long. Our waitress was nice enough and made sure we were taken care of. Ashame they share the name Gustav's with a great German place in Portland.

Had a great Blueberry Beer and also an order of fries. I thought the were acceptable. They apparently dice their own fries so they are thicker and still have a lot of the peel on them. Other than that they were good. Great view at this place. If you really want the thin fries go to Mozarts down the street!

Even all of the Leavenworth charm could not persuade me to give this place more than two stars. First of all no Framboise. Prices were a little steep, and many of the staff members were downright incompetent. What was most surprising to me was the condition of the bathroom. It was seriously jinxed. Neither of the stalls had working locks on the doors, and when one woman tried to use the automatic soap dispenser, it sprayed her in the face - she could have lost an eye. And while at the time I was fighting back laughter, I still think thats not cool. I'm sure people wondered why I was squinting when I cautiously washed my hands. In the time it took me to see someone get sprayed down with soap foam, go pee and wash my hands I was also privileged to witness someone get locked in the other stall. Really Gustav's? Really?

Great beer! Great location. Wonderful place to meet and greet friends. Food is great. Only exception are they fries; they can be pretty greasy. We love Gustav's and it is our point-of-call whenever we are in Leavenworth.

We stopped in to warm up after wandering around the town and ended up having the best Reuben sandwich I've ever eaten! The 'kraut was perfect and of course, there's beer. The spiced wine was also very tasty! I'm looking forward to going back the next time I'm in town.

Ugh! The menu is sparse, they have only one dessert and they don't offer a full bar, only beer and wine. This place is gross. I am now a true believer that bleach can not make everything clean or eliminate all odors...the women's bathroom reeked like a sewer. My sleeves kept sticking to the table because the table's clear coat, after many years of wear, was now tacky to the touch. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and it came with the wrong cheese on it and IT ALSO CAME WITH A PICKLE WHICH I SPECIFICALLY ASKED THEM NOT TO INCLUDE WITH MY FOOD. The amount of fries served with the sandwich was a joke. My friend got a burger with a red pepper on it and said it wasn't good at all and ended up adding every condiment on the table to it just to give it some flavor. He also was disappointed that they scrimped on the fries. Don't waste your money here.

Because Leavenworth is a tourist town, I expect some higher prices for what I get, but I also expect decent food and damned good beer. I got both at Gustav's. The fries were crisp and actually tasted like potatoes - not very salty, either - and the burger that Boyfriend and I split hit the spot. We got a pitcher of Whistling Pig, which was the perfect summer beer to compliment the beautiful view and good food. We were attended to well, tipped accordingly, and happy to return. No gripes here!

Overpriced, freezer to heater food. The only positive was beer and nice bar, but even that's probably better and cheaper somewhere else. The older lady hostess was the only unpleasant person I met in beautiful Leavenworth. Only the location and endless tourists keep this place in business. It was the only disappointment in the otherwise charming, beautiful, and accommodating town. The town and summer theater was amazing. Just keep walking past this nasty place.

It is NOT a German restaurant - jut a brew pub. (doesn't seem to be part of the gustav's chain). Good burger, good fries. Good "I just got done skiing and am hungry" food. Nice atmosphere.

One for being friendly, second for making sure husband had beers. My husband use to live in this little hamlet and use to love this place. So hoping to impress me he hauls me in, we get a table that is sticky and hubby orders a beer recants stories of old, waitress remembers beer but fails to locate water. Takes our order returns with my burger which is nearly raw, husbands is fine and I insist he continues, mine goes back. My husband is on third beer and his plate is empty and mine has not returned from the kitchen. Waitress takes plate and returns with bill both burgers and the beers. Where in the h---- is my burger? And nothing but a blank look on her face. Um really? When my burger returned some 41 minutes later there was my old plate with the scraped off onions cold fries. And when I refused the plate she asked if I wasn't hungry!

This is a hot stop for families, for sure. But my man & I made this our first stop to 'warm up' before wine tasting. A nice hot summer day on the deck with a beer is a definite remedy after driving and setting up the campsite. I am not a beer drinker, but the waitress recommended this new blueberry lager- Wild Blue- Soooooo good, it doesn't even taste like beer at all! We snacked on some fries which were ok, but the food others around us ordered looked delicious. This wouldn't be my #1 choice, but it's definately worth trying and a good place to start.

Stopped here on the way to Chelan because a friend had eaten here many times. I had the grilled cheese on terrific thick wheat bread, and Chris had a turkey sandwich (the day after Thanksgiving, go figure). Everyone was happy with their food though the server (one of two pregnant servers. Is there something in the water?) forgot my drink and Chris' sammie came with things he asked to do without. Other than that, a great spot to stop for lunch!

Gustav's seems to be the place to go, but I found the beer to be average, the food (burgers and soggy fries) to be overpriced, and the waitstaff generally friendly but spacey and flustered when the place was half empty. There are more enjoyable places to eat and drink in Leavenworth.

    (1)
  • Sam H.

Not bad. Not great. Unlike the other reviewer, I liked the fries a lot and had a decent cheeseburger. Pretty large number of beers on tap. Maybe 20-25. I had some Leavenworth brews and a Portland beer I like. Apparently the fish sandwich is really good, but I didn't get a taste. Our waitress was friendly enough. Nice atmosphere lots of pine or something.

i went on an afternoon. got the french dip- very good. beer selection was very good (20 or so handles of american craft beer). i would go back. the place is set up a little weird and can seem a bit cramped. the barstools are not conducive to session drinking but it's a great place to stop and enjoy the town of leavenworth.

Below average burgers that are priced way too high. They had lots of fresh lettuce and tomato but they definitely weren't worth $10+ A LA CARTE! The onion rings were completely tasteless and the fries were soggy. The kids meals were unappetizing and the only side available is French fries. The staff was pleasant but the food was not anything to return for.

This is a happy atmosphere, well lit, burger joint with beer on tap, good for families, dates, and so on. (Yup, run on sentence, I ran with it). We had one kid in a stroller, another with a talking iPad for communication, both with their own food and no one gave us crap for it. We were here on the 4th of July weekend which seemed less crowded then a typical summer weekend. Our waitress was accommodating regarding the table that would work best for us. The kids got crayons and a coloring sheet. There were two big steps outside of the restaurant that were a small challenge for the stroller. I don't know if they had disabled entrance, however; the place seemed roomy enough with staff willing to move chairs around to accommodate our wheels. The beer was great and refreshing, the restaurant was well lit (opposite of dinning in a cave), and the staff was pleasant. The only German sounding items that I saw was the fabulous Bratwurst burger and a Bratwurst dog. There is a Gluten Free menu that we did not try. If you are able to climb stairs then you can dine on the roof (well, outdoor patio).

Went here with the family while visiting Leavenworth. The service was very rushed. We barely read the menu and we had already been asked 2 times if we were ready to order. Seems like they just wanted to turn the table as quickly as possible. The food came ridiculously fast. So fast that my bratwurst showed up not completely cooked. They comped me a free beer for exposing me to potential food poisoning. The second (cooked) brat was ok but the fries they brought tasted quite pulpy. My starter salad was nice and had fresh lettuce. Overall it's a limited selection of very below average pub food. The Icicle Ale I had (their house brew) was very good however so I will compliment that.

Don't waste your time eating here. There are SO many other cool BETTER places to eat in this little fun town!! This place lured me in because of the cool upstairs outdoor seating with water misters! I should have known when I walked in and there were only like 5 tables in the whole place ( which btw is huge) but don't be fooled! The service is slow. Took over 10 minutes just to get water and that was from a bus boy. The waitress took 15 min to take out drink order. Beer selection is ok, same as every other place in town but about 1$ more expensive. My margarita was ok. Weak but tastes good. The pepper jack burger was totally average. Nothing special at all. I asked for is medium rare and it was cooked medium well which sucked. I asked the waitress I was debating on the onion rings or fries (bc nothing is included with the burger, you have to order a side of fries or onion rings) ANYWAYS she raved about the fries and how they are made in house so of course I went with the fries...... Boy was I disappointed, if you like soggy, big and oily soft fries that are plain then these are the fries for you Don't go here. Save yourself and leave happy somewhere else!

We were here for a wedding rehearsal dinner. I asked if there were gluten free options, the waiter asked "are you allergic to wheat? Then you shouldn't eat here". What do you do? Had we not been with the party I would have got up and walked out. Apparently everything is cooked on a flat top grill. So cross contamination would be inevitable. I appreciated his advice but I would have also appreciated the waiter being a problem solver as opposed to being a bouncer. I did ask about the salads they were made fresh so I had the Spinach strawberry salad which was ok. My husband had a tuna salad sandwich on a gluten free bun which he enjoyed. In all fairness the wait staff was efficient and attentive to our party as a whole. It would be a great German pub for those without the special diet needs.

Rooftop. Flowers. Misters. Delicious food. Good beer. Service could have been a little quicker & I really did not like the specialty cocktail cooler I had. The food, though, was superb & hubby loved the Enchantment Ale.

Our family likes Gustavs in Leavenworth. They have a good selection of Bavarian food, along with some kid classics to appease their appetite. Good service and cool atmosphere, located conveniently in downtown Leavenworth.

The food was delicious but basically everything else wasn't. We didn't have much of a wait to get a table but once we got to the table it took 30 min to get a waitress to come and get our drink. Then the busser spilled water all over the table, although he did apologize, he continued to hand out waters as it continued to spread all over the table. We heard a waitress call a customer a b**ch after seeing she didn't get left a tip. We had 2 different waitresses who didn't communicate and kept getting confused. Overall, my table was fairly disappointed and will not be considering coming back any time soon.
