Beau Legs Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

  • Derrick A.

First, the staff is nice and friendly. With that being said, there are a few changes they can make like updating the menu. Ordered a couple things and we're told they are no longer being served, the menu hasn't been changed to reflect the new changes. Ordered the cod and tilapia and both were thin with heavy batter. That doesn't mean it tasted bad, but I didn't order batter with a little fish dipped in it. If I go back I will have to see if they serve their fish grilled instead of fried. I also ordered the mac and cheese and it seemed as if they were short on cheese that day. Not ready to write them off, and hopefully a different day will yield better results.

Great catfish .....love it. Staff friendly, place was clean, prices food, but it took awhile to get my food. As it was all hot and fresh , and tastes great, im ok with the wait. ..just be ready to wait a bit, but worth it. They close at 8pm and we walked in at 750pm and they were very friendly and not in a rush to get us out.

This was my first visit, so I will update IF I go back again. My "large" $8.99 gumbo that was supposed to have crab and other items was pretty much just sausage and two pieces of small shrimp. And for that price I expected more than 16 oz. I can't imagine what the small would be. It also took over 10 minutes. They also charged me $1 for using a debit card, without telling me first. I would've walked out if I'd have known that. It's not the $1, it's the point. So my soup ended up $11 after tax and their fee. Next time I'll go get Safeway's gumbo at the deli for half the price and just as good, if not better.

This is our second time eating here in a 3 week time frame. There food is excellent. I absolutely love the catfish! There tarter sauce is on point, hush puppies are perfect. If you are looking for good southern food this is your place! If your looking for good fish and chips this is your place! If your looking for something different then this is your place!

If you are looking for some good soul food, search no further. Hands down, one of the best soul food here in Washington. Friendly server and great food. We ordered the catfish shrimp combo, Chiccen meal, deep fried piccles, and deep fried gizzard and some ice tea to wash down our food. I highly recommend this spot. We will definitely be bacc. Oh yeah. We also ordered the gumbo..it was so good. Real tasty and the rice wasnt soft and soggy like most gumbo I tried at other spots.

I've tried to like this place. Sadly they've made it impossible for me. Literally every order I've placed for pick up has been a complete failure. I've tried ordering online and over the phone. We end up waiting for a crazy amount of time (the shortest wait time has been 30 minutes for a To Go order) and our order is wrong 100% of the time. Maybe the food is great, but the service is so horrible I've never been able to enjoy it.

We went here on a Tuesday evening it was pretty slow but that was fine by me. I had a shrimp po boy with greens and some gizzards. My wife had the chicken po boy fries and some fried pickles. It was all really good the gizzards were seasoned well and fried extra crispy. The pickles were a little to salty I suppose that's a personal preference though. All in all a great experience and I will be back.

Their "suicide wings" are fixing to send me to the emergency room. They are that hot and that good. Best soul food place in the state, bar none. My family absolutely loves it. My sons grilled cheese is the best looking grilled cheese sandwich I ever seen. They are the best!

Outstanding, the Gumbo was so good I order catfish to go. Great fish , great southern food, this is a must stop!! I was driving through from WA to CA, just wanted fish. I love Sandy she was so sweet!

Had a great dinner here! Sweet tea and good Southern Food. Fried pickles & gizzards were good and the clam strips were the best we've ever had! Definitely not frozen, these were big strips! Clam chowder was good! We didn't order anything that wasn't good. Only downfall is that there's only 1 restroom. The restaurant wasn't overly busy but had to wait for the bathroom. That won't stop us from going back!

At first, it took me a really long time to figure out what I wanted to rate my experience as. But after a while of thinking about it, i have different ratings based on all the criteria and my overall that is shown above. My boyfriend, son and I came here on a whim after discussing what we wanted for dinner. We decided on beau legs and we decided to order it to go since it was my son's nap time. After looking at the menu, we ordered a catfish and shrimp basket for my boyfriend, shrimp and grits for myself, a small halibut basket for my mom, then gizzards, Mac and cheese, collard greens and fried pickles for all of us to share. The prices are kind of expensive, but what do you expect with this kind of stuff ? I'm sure it is costly to get and they do have to make their business run. People left, then more people came and ordered. We still sat there waiting. After about 30 minutes we get half of our order, then the waitress tells us they ran out of collard greens so we switched it for red beans and rice. My boyfriend was hella sad about that since he really enjoys collard greens, but oh well. We waited for another 20 minutes... Waiting patiently for our food. A different waitress noticed us waiting for such a long time and asked us if we wanted to just refund what we were waiting for because our food was getting cold and she knew we were waiting a while, which is a super nice gesture. She was the only one who mentioned something to us about waiting for so long. (Why I gave back a star that I took away initially.) I checked my receipt to see what time I ordered my food, and it literally took an hour for me to receive everything. That's a long time, and I'm not s patient person. Also, I was super hungry that I was getting cranky. I even told my boyfriend, the wait better be worth it and the food better be good after waiting so long. Sure enough, we got home and the food was delicious. My shrimp and grits were amazing ! The gizzards my mom really enjoyed it because they weren't super salty. It was seasoned good. The hush puppies were so good too. Next time, I'll call ahead of time and come in late that way I know everything will be ready. I'll come back to this place. Overall, it was good but all the service needs to get a little better.

I tried a piece of catfish and a hush puppy to find out if it tasted like what I fondly remember catfish tasting like when I grew up in Texas. Oh my, yes! Yes it did. Deeelicious! I'm going back later this week to have more. Oh yes.

  • L L.

Was looking for some country cooking La. Style... disappointed. The food was so salty I couldn't even eat it. Collard greens included too salty like someone dumped a whole salt shaker in it. Was really looking forward to trying this place but will never go back.

Great service with a smile. Friday for late lunch, wife had fried cod, I had a shrimp poboy. We shared an order of sweet potato fries. All were delicious. Neat family owned atmosphere. We will be back.

If I had a choice not to give this establishment a star I would do just that. Just today I ordered a large cod and fries and I received 3 small pieces of fish the size of McDonalds chicken mcnuggets. The fries were over cooked and the coleslaw was watered down. I spent $11.00 for kids meal. I can't believe they call the southern food and I'm from the south and this wasn't even close.

  • Dennis L.

Went there with a total of 5 people. Only two other people in the place when we got there. We were seated and attended to promptly. A couple of us ordered the catfish dinner, another a shrimp po' boy, and a couple pork sandwiches. Also ordered a side of ocra. Within a reasonable time the food was delivered. Catfish filets were the perfect size and tasted like catfish. The batter was nice and crunchy and not too thick and oily. The sandwiches looked very good and they were generous with the fillings. Service was good and they kept our glasses full. All in all a nice experience.

The food here is okay. The prices are pretty up there. Having gone to college in Louisiana and Texas, I have a pretty good gauge of good Cajun/Southern food. This place just ranks as "Meh." to me. I've gone twice. Once to get lunch and the second time to get a big order of fried okra for my son. I'd say give it a try but don't come thinking you're walking into New Orleans.

    (3)
  • Ana P.

The food is great, it takes time but worth the wait. Try the frog legs, the fried okra, the catfish basket... anything and everything you order will be fantastic.

I wish I could give this place more stars - the first time we ate here, we loved it and felt like we finally found a place with decent southern food. But, we've been back twice since, and have been met with very slow service, unfriendly service, incredibly salty food, and a dirty, sticky restaurant. Quite frankly, the only reason I give it a three is because I have experienced it better once before. The sides are ridiculously salty. BUT - The catfish po boy was very tasty, and spot on!

  • Guerin W.

Ignore all the comments about the environment and bad service. My wife and I had the complete opposite experience. Catfish basket was amazing!!!!!! Service was great and the food was even better!!!! I have spent a lot of time around creole food. A large portion of my family is from Louisiana and this food was on point. I can't wait to go back and try other stuff. This business is run and owned by family so of course things take a little longer but it's fresh and worth the wait. Most of these recipes come from the grandmother who is from Louisiana and the father who is from Texas. Go support these folks!!!

This place serves honest southern food at good prices without hype or pretention. The hot wings were well cooked and spiced and the gumbo was exceptional. I'd go more often if I lived close by.

    (4)
  • Yanell J.

The Catfish was excellent so it was a total shock to look over and notice the shrimp looked like they were snatched off The Sizzler Buffet! Not sure why store bought freezer section shrimp were used....the struggle is real...I guess...but they ruined what was otherwise a great meal.

Heaven sent find in Lacey, WA. And the greens are wonderful in an exquisite, garlicy broth. Also love the Hush Puppies. Perfection! Staff is positive and friendly which is important to me.

    (4)
  • Aaron G.

I had the fish and chips and the gumbo. It was not very good. The fish was thin, over cooked and not a very good flavor. The gumbo was really good. If you eat here stick to something other than the fish.

  • Jackie J.

OMG! Came after my son's baseball tournament and it was AWESOME! Catfish and chips, halibut and chips, and oyster po'boy...all delicious! We will be back for sure. The gal working the front is very nice, attentive, and friendly. Great experience for us!

We had tried Beau Legs probably a dozen times. We are from the south and it's hard to find things like fried catfish, fried okra and red beans & rice here in WA. We keep wanting to have a decent experience and keep going back giving this family run establishment the benefit of the doubt. I am close to giving up on this place though. The food is good. I will give them that... the service is absolutely deplorable!!!!!! It completely over shadows the food. More than half of our orders have been ToGo and every single order has been incorrect. Something left out - something wrong. I refuse to stand there at the check out stand and go through every meal to make sure it's right. How hard can it be?!? Tonight, my wife's catfish basket was lacking the hush puppies and the fried okra looked like left over bits out of the fryer. My Jambalaya (with chicken & andouille sausage according to the menu) had chicken and shrimp... which would probably be okay if I were not allergic to shrimp! And the portions were small for the price. And the folks who work there may be compelled by the family owners to work there clearly do NOT want to be there. And they will let you know it by their rudeness and surliness. I will drive all the way to Southern Kitchen in Tacoma (even though I live in Lacey) for good southern cooking from now on!! Oh by the way... DO NOT use the online ordering - they never get the order and you will have to argue about the prepayment - they just assume you are lying.

  • Chris K.

Place is legit. The food is cooked to order and comes out crisp and delicious. The menu isn't very diverse but has the standard offerings a fish and chip place would have. They do offer some bayou favorites like gumbo, jambalaya, alligator, and frog legs. The alligator po boy was really good. Call ahead if you have a favorite, the kitchen doesn't make everything everyday. My biggest complaint is you do end up smelling like fryer oil when you walk out. Small price to pay for pretty tasty food. Better yet, call ahead. Pick up your food and get the best of both worlds!

  • Blaze V.

Great food at Beau legs! Ventilation could use a little work though. I had the gumbo and it was great. My wife had the oyster Po boy and she said it was also great! We will definitely be going back for more!

  • Amy G.

Food was very good. Service was a different story. Waitress was slow & didn't write our order down, so it was of course messed up. It wasn't busy, only one other couple eating. Our food was brought out first & then they forgot about our sons grilled cheese. So that was brought out way after our food & was burnt. It was just a horrible experience. Even though the food was good we will not be eating there again.

I just found this place and went for lunch. I loved the food! I It was freshly made to order and I really appreciated that. I ordered halibut, and it came freshly fried with very thin coating of batter, fresh cole slaw, fries and hush puppies. I found prices very reasonable, especially compared to other places. I could barely eat everything, it was so much food. My husband had a special, which included butterflied shrimp, chicken and cat fish. He loved it! Next time we are bringing the kids, as I am sure they will love chicken and waffles. The service was good and friendly.

    (5)
  • Sonia S.

Food is decent...pretty expensive. Catfish and shrimp basket (two pieces of fish and three shrimp) with fries, coleslaw, and two hushpuppies...a side of greens and a drink was over $20...$20 a person...kinda crazy.

    (3)
  • Allan A.

Food is excellent, I mean EXCELLENT!!! But service, now that's another thing. It took almost 25 minutes to get our food and all we ordered was the catfish and shrimp basket, oh and a small order of seafood gumbo. Almost forgot about that, kinda like the server/ waitress did.

  • Mark B.

The food here is great. But they have to have it in order to eat it. We came by a few weeks ago and they were out of many menu items. But we decided to try again today and once more they were out of many of our favorites. There won't be a third time. Unfortunately they have lost our business which stinks because we really love supporting family owned businesses.

  • Rachel K.

The place is good. I love their catfish. It's crispy.

I wanna go back and try the halibut! It looked great! Catfish, fries and hush puppies were all really good

  • Malorie K.

Pretty "okay" place. Everything is fried and I'm not a big fan of fried so I guess my opinion is biased :/ environment is kinda weird too. They are a Louisiana-style family restaurant but they are from Arizona. A little pricey for the quality.

  • Greg H.

The food here is AMAZING. Very authentic southern cookin! My favorite thing to get here is the Po'boy catfish. My only complaints are how much smoke gathers in the shop making it hard to breath and all the weight gain I've recieve lol

  • Nina S.

So disappointed! I used to eat here about once a week when they first openend and then took a break becuase it's not exactly healthy. I recently went back twice- both times were bad and I probably will not go back. The first time got a poboy sandwich- the bread was stale and the fries were way too greasy- tasted like they had been sitting around for way to long. The second time I called in an order of chicken strips with fries, and pecan pie. There were like 5-6 tiny litle chicken strips, such a small portion and did not have any sauce on them- I asked for mild. The pecan pie was hard as a rock and burnt! I ate a few bites and threw it out- not worth the calories. I am so disappointed becuase that was my go to place for comfort food now and then. They really went downhill :(

    (1)
  • Michele R.

Used to have great food, but it appears to have gone downhill. Fried okra has been extremely well done and dry the last three times we've been there. They're frequently out of items as well. Service has never been great but has gotten worse in in the last year or so. They wouldn't serve us as take-out customers 30 minutes before they closed recently. So be sure to get there early!

  • Paulie D.

Beau Legs is one of my favorite places in Oly-Lacey-Tumwater area. They can sometimes have problems with consistency and there is usually quite a long wait for your food. But boy is it worth it! Outstanding fish and appetizers. Do not miss the gumbo and/or jumbalaya. Cant get enough fried pickles too. Simply. Amazing.

    (4)
  • Gregory G.

I can't attest to what the food is like because I did not get that far. I am from the south and I felt like haveing some fried catfish, so I figure I would try Beau Legs. When I odered the catfish with greens she told me they were out of greens. So I say "what about fried oakra"..............she said they were out of it..............soooooo. I asked her if they were out of anything else and she told me no that was it. I asked her well it comes with hushpuppies right and she said no we are out of those. I turned around and left. The food maybe good if they got it.

Two days in a row! I had seen this place when I visited the Curry House next door. It said Gumbo on the window and I thought, OMG did someone bring creole to Olympia? After yelping, I decided to try it on Friday and it was delicious! My wife had catfish, I had the gumbo, and my daughter had the clams. We also share a fried pickle appetizer. Can I just say... YUMM! The clams were huge and delicious! My wife said the catfish was okay (but that's catfish), and I had the gumbo. The gumbo was good; but not as good as Marcelas Cookery in Seattle. But, hey that adds 100 miles. We loved Beau Legs so much we went back for Saturday lunch. My daughter had the cod, she said it was good, my wife had the gumbo, and I had the Alligator Po'Boy and a side of clams, both were awesome and the Alligator was my first. Service was okay, they have only one waitress for all the tables, but the seating is very casual... Comfortable.

  • Jon E.

This has great gumbo! The rest of the food is good but not great! The people that work there are very friendly. My wife loves going there to get the gumbo. It can't be beat by anything in town.

  • Beth E.

Sad. People are nice but you would need more than a gallon of sweet tea to gag this down on the salt. I'm from the south..what they hidin with salt? Blech, uh uh and no thank you maam, or sir. Greens sour, fish bad, okra sad, tartar sauce lazy. dang, I still need water. What a shame.

    (1)
  • Medina T.

I ordered the small catfish basket with a side of fried okra. My plate came hot and fresh within 5-7 mins. I really enjoyed everything. You won't need to add any salt, there was plenty but again I normally don't eat salt. I found a great southern place right here in Lacey to take my husband. I am definitely coming back!

    (4)
  • Joanne J.

This place is my catfish spot and Mac n cheese! The sweet tea is delicious too! I think this place is way better than the fish house.

    * This review is for the new location that has replaced the old "Play Pen" on Pacific Avenue* I had a good feeling about the place as soon as I walked in. Although large with lots of stool seating and tables sporadically mixed in, I was greeted warmly right away by both a server and a woman whom I now percieve to be the owner. My bf and I were told we could sit anywhere we pleased, and we were gien menus and our drink orders immediately. The menu is simple but has a lot of great soul favorites: fried catfish, mac and cheese, collard greens, red beans & rice, fried chicken strips, wings, etc. We decided to try the Captain's Platter (tilapia, clam strips, shrimp, catfish and I believe, halibut), the "suicide" hot wings, and a side of macaroni and cheese. It didn't take long for our order to be ready but the attentive owner checked on us to make sure we had ordered/had everything we needed. A sweet woman seated behind us (I think she said she was the owner's mom) asked what we'd gotten and told us it would be worth the wait. It was. The macaroni and cheese was saucey (not soupy) and flavorful, a HUGE portion. The Captain's Platter had a heaping pile of fries and delicious coleslaw, not to mention well-breaded fish. The catfish was my personal favorite- crispy and delciious. The hot wings were delicious and melt in your mouth... the "suicide sauce" was great. What was the best part, though, was the staff. It was pretty slow in there for a bit, and they were all very attentive. No one seemed lacking for something to do, and they all seemed happy to be there. Everyone was chatty and friendly. I got really good vibes from everyone there. One of the employees came out with samples of clam chowder, which was also delicious. Next time, I want to try their pies and their red beans & rice. Definitely recommend this location!

Found this place on Yelp and would never have found it otherwise. Off the beaten track and hard to find even with GPS & Navigator's help. Don't be in a hurry when you get here...and the ambiance is cafeteria style...but the food is fantastic. Love the Oyster P'boy and hush puppies!

I don't like to leave negative reviews, but in this case I feel like this review is 100% deserved. First off we came in and the girl waiting the counter was not friendly at all. I am not sure what her problem was but what ever. We ordered our food and sat and waited my boyfriends food came out after about 30mins and we thought hey my food will be out soon after all we got the same thing. Nope, this was not the case I waited 20 mins after he got his meal to get my meal. Then another 10 mins after that to get our fried okra. It was not that busy. What cheesed me off the most was people who came in after me that ordered the same food we did got their food before us! Many people got there food before we did that came in after. I am extremely frustrated. Oh and my boyfriends Pie was forgotten, and my hush puppies were forgotten. -.- Your food is good but after this experience I doubt I will be back again and I will not be recommending you to my friends anymore.

I've tried many "southern" food places in western wa, in fact if there's one around I will probably go to it. At first when I saw the location I was worried it was going to be a commercial type southern food from a box and not homemade. I was WRONG! Although the prices were a bit pricey the food was super tasty and very satisfying! I had gumbo, cat fish, colesaw, hush puppies and French fries.. My husband had the captins platter.. It was delightful. The fish is fried perfectly and the hush puppies are flavorful, best I've ever had. The gumbo is worth it, perfectly spiced (im not a fan of spicy food) and full of shrimp, sausage and chicken.. Not just rice! I'd recommend this place and if I lived closer I'd come more often! Ill be back for sure.

If I could split my rating I would give food 3 stars and service 1. I came here on a Saturday afternoon with my family. The staff was very friendly, took our order and then we waited...and waited...and waited some more. Then noticed tables that came in long after us were getting their meals. Turns out we were forgotten about and the kitchen never got our order. We received an apology, but she didn't act like it was a big deal. It gave me the impression that it's not an uncommon occurrence. We were asked if we would like anything else while we wait, but the waitress didn't make it clear if that was complimentary because of the wait or if that would be be added to our bill so I said it's ok. When our food finally came I was starving and it tasted really good. After a few bites, when I wasn't quite as ravenous anymore, I realized it was nothing special. It was pretty bland for Cajun style food. My jumbalaya was mostly rice with a few pieces of each meat and not much spice. My husbands fish was small, and also nothing special and they were out of the sweet potato fries he ordered. He ordered the sweet potato fries, asking if he could sub for the regular fries. He was told yes, but was never told there would be an additional charge. They showed up on the bill anyways even though they were out, so then we had to wait around some more at the end of the meal while they fixed that. She asked if we wanted some pie, but again it wasn't clear if she was just asking if we wanted to order some pie or if it was something being offered because of the mess up. We did end up ordering dessert because we were still hungry. When we did get the bill we saw that they didn't charge is for the dessert, but it wasn't really enough to make up for all the time we wasted there and the disappointing experience.

I've eaten here about 4 times because I really want to love this place, as I lived in New Orleans for several years. Well, what can I say...the po boy is tasty but the bread is all wrong. It's supposed to be a large baguette not a little french roll. And it's pretty expensive, about $8. The portions are skimpsville too. For example, I tried the Red Beans and Rice, small cup (about 1/2 Cup portion) is $4 plus tax! There wasn't even ham hocks in it...just some little bits of sausage. The gumbo, which I understand has pricier ingredients, is in a 12 ounce cup that's smaller than a cup of noodles, which comes to $7.50 with tax (and it's very salty). Totally out of control. Ambience is wack, seating is uggs and yeah the fry smoke is everywhere. I just feel ripped off after coming here. Fix the portions and the prices and I'll come back.

A few months back I stumbled into this resaurant and I instantly fell in love with the food & Shelly. I tried the Fisherman's platter which gives you a nice taste of most all of the seafood. A few years ago I visited New Orleans where I fell in love with Southern food and have craved it ever since. I recently I tried the Oyster Po' Boy sandwich. Oh my goodness. Talk about sandwich artistry. The sauce was perfectly spicy, the tomatoes and lettuce were evenly distributed on the crusty bread, and of course the oysters were perfect. My husband had the catfish & shrimp basket which he loved! There are many more dishes that I can't wait to go back and try. My only warning is that you do not want to go here if you are on a diet.

This is a review of their new location on Pacific Ave. in Lacey. They've taken the place of the sort of dive-like Play Pen. Big improvement. I imagine in time they'll put their imprint on the interior. I was in for the second day in a row for gumbo and hush puppies. Lots of shrimp, chicken, crab and sausage. Tasty hush puppies. The staff are friendly. I imagine they'll have some challenges as they settle in, but I'm certainly going to be a regular.

I don't go to the Tallon Lane location for the ambiance. There isn't any but who cares when there is crispy, crunchy Fried Okra! Sometimes I go there for nothing but an order of okra. (No, okra is not weird and slimy. It's savory, crunchy and very, very good. And yes, hot sauce is definitely called for.) I also love the catfish, halibut, cod, coleslaw, sweet potato fries, hushpuppies . . . Aw, hell. It's all really good. Next time, I'm trying the BBQ Brisket! At first the prices might seem a little high but really, they aren't when you think about what you get at the various fast fish franchises. The food is GOOD and you won't go away hungry. Then next time you are in the mood for fish, give them a try.

I found this place on yelp and decided I would visit. First visit I ordered the catfish & shrimp patter. The catfish was a little too fishy, but tasted great with tarter sauce. The shrimp were huge and delicous. The fries & hush puppies were just okay. We dine in and the smell is still in my jacket after two days. The second visit was way better, I had the shrimp I they were so good, I wish I had more. I think they need to work on their ventilation system, other than that the place is awsome.

Excellent and well prepared food! Authentic Cajun cuisine! I had the shrimp platter and clam chowder. Home-made taste and exquisite! My wife had the cod platter and a cup of Gumbo. She loved it! The Gumbo is homemade and it is so authentic and worth every bite! My daughter had the shrimp and catfish platter and found it tasty and delicious. This food is fantastic! We will eat here more! The owners are very hospitable and friendly! The chef is superb; he and his wife are the owners! Good people , clean and honest to goodness home style Louisiana food! I felt we were in Louisiana on the Gulf coast! To us, this is the best seafood you can find in the Olympia area!

I'm not totally sure why it took us so long to get here, but whoo-ee! Am I glad we finally did. First off, the young woman working the register is De-Lightful! I think Olympia is a bit synonymous with poor customer service, but not here, she was funny, and pleasant and helpful and just all around wonderful. I had the cod fish and chips because I had read in a previous review that the batter was panko based. Soo good! They ran out of mac-n-cheese so we got red beans and rice and were not disspointed. Mr. Nick got the shrimp po'boy and hasn't stopped talking about it since. BEST SWEET POTATO FRIES IN THE AREA! Portion size is very large. I could have been fine with the small fish and chips basket. All in all a wonderful experience, we will be back!

Bought some gumbo. waited for 30 minutes. Paid a leg and an arm for it. Tasted better gumbo at Popeyes or and Safeway. Too little food for that price.

I had been in shortly after they originally opened for business and decided not to return due to unpleasant experience. Fast forward a couple years, I decide to give em another try based on the glowing reviews. Ya, still an very unpleasant experience. The place was filled with grease smoke to the point of of a distinct haze. They were out of several items on menu, and even some condiments such as Ranch dressing. VERY slow service even though there was only 3 tables with a couple folks at each. and just to add a finishing touch I was short changed by a nickel. No biggy, but guess they needed it to buy more ketchup? The food is decent and edible, but not exceptional enough to overcome the poor service & smokey building. It'll be another couple years before I go back.

  • Nick S.

Not the best food. Some of the batter is just plain gross. My fish was okay, not good and not bad. My wifes was not edible. I put a piece of hers in my mouth and was so disgusted I spit it right back out. Yuck! Not sure why this place has the reviews it does because they definitely did not deliver.....

If you're craving some wonderful, deep-fried Southern Comfort food -- Beau Legs is your spot. The staff are kind and helpful when it comes to making difficult menu decisions which is common with so many great things to choose from. The atmosphere is relaxing and casual but it can get a little busy. Thus far, I have not had anything I do not like from Beau Legs. I'm a big catfish fan and they absolutely do it justice. The mac-n-cheese is incredible and the gumbo is the best this side of Mississippi. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Now, what are you still doing reading--go to Beau Legs--now!

First time I went there after driving clear across town and it will be my last. I went there Saturday evening around 8:30 PM , they were open to 9:PM and stood at the front cash register to order a meal to go and waited for several minutes until a young woman came out to greet me from behind the curtains going into the kitchen. I told her I would like to order something to go and she said sorry we are sold out of everything? What type of a restaurant does not have food on hand to deny customers service? She could see I was not happy I guess by my facial expression. What's more unusual is most restaurants offer some type of compensation to get you back but they offered nothing? Some people recommended me to this establishment and I will not go back nor recommend this restaurant to anybody and I will inform the people that referred me that this place is a joke, very poor service. By the way when I tried to call and complain to the owner about this situation thier voicemail was full and won't except any messages? So stay far. far away from this place. there are much better reaturants to dine at.

This place joins a couple of places that I believe are infamous. Darbys, 5th Ave Sandwich Shop, and Le Voyeur most notably. Now, what is the common thread of these three places, and now Beau Legs? The fact that when you leave, everyone you see for the next couple hours will have a pretty good guess where you ate. You are completely coated in the smell of the place and probably need to take a shower. Aside from leaving smelling a bit like a greaseball, the place was real tasty. I got the captain's platter to try all the different options and they certainly know how to make use of a deep fryer. Catfish, Halibut, Tilapia, Shrimp, Hush Puppies, Fries, and some Tartar Sauce to coat everything. A little side of coleslaw that I didn't care for as well (I never like cole slaw though, theirs wasn't extra bad or anything). I enjoyed all of it... the cornmeal breading on some of the fish was especially delicious. And they do make some choice hush puppies. So, somewhat in the middle of nowhere, leaves you as a greasebomb, but makes real tasty food. Certainly a good kind of place to have around.

We are southern, & were excited to try this place tonight. The food was good, but the excruciatingly slow service will keep us from going back. We were ready to leave when our food FINALLY arrived. My catfish & shrimp were a little over-fried & crunchy to be authenticity southern, but it was good. My husband's jambalaya was very good. The sweet tea was right on the money, but the restaurant is in dire need of an exhaust fan. My eyes were burning from the smoke, & our clothes & hair reeked of grease. We all had to come home & shower & change clothes to get rid of the smell. I doubt if we'll go back.

The new location on Pacific is gloomy, undecorated, and rather tacky. We weren't greeted at all; had to wander around and find a waitress to ask the policy. We sat where we liked, as suggested. He got the catfish and shrimp basket, and I got the seafood gumbo with a side of collard greens. The shrimp were excellent, but the catfish was pretty bland. We expected a more flavorful breading. Fries were meh; sort of tough and leathery. My gumbo was great, but the collard greens were bland as anything. Even with chunks of mystery meat, they still had the flavor of that overcooked spinach your mom used to make, including the tough, chewy stems. Will not return.

I am from the south and we have a saying that goes like this...."The food was so good it makes you wanna slap your mama"! Well my mom lives 3,000+ miles away but after eating at Beau Legs tonight, I called my mom to inform that next time I see her, I am going Mike Tyson on her! Yes, the cat fish and tilapia was insanely good and the gumbo was absolutely divine. As several reviewers have pointed out, even the french fries were piping hot and delicious....and I usually don't eat fries! I had no intentions of eating the coleslaw but since everything else was so good, I gave it a shot and glad I did. Not too creamy or dry...not soggy but crunchy goodness. Oh yeah, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the sweet tea! Being from the south I am hyper critical when it comes to sweet tea and this place did not disappoint. DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT TRYING THE GUMBO!

One of my favorite places in town! I have been here for a short while, but I instantly started to become a regular. The Cod basket is my favorite! I always get the Cod basket and it has never failed to satisfy my hunger.

The only reason why I gave this place a 2 is because it's extremely overpriced. I order a shrimp and fish basket with a small soup (1 order) and it came out to 23 dollars!!! (Including tip of $3 dollars) it didn't even come with a drink! I had to pay extra for a drink! I should have just gone to Red Lobster I would've got free biscuits, salad and a drink with my entrée. The shrimp, fish and fires were dry as hell but the small gumbo soup was amazing. Very friendly people and good customer service but unless they start including drinks with their baskets or drop the prices I don't think I'll be going back.

This reminded me of a fish fry in Virginia good people good food awesome catfish and shrimp and chips. I actually kept driving by this place and saw it a few times on here, Yelp, and had to try it. I'm a southern boy, even though I do not act or dress like it but I know good catfish and it was amazing. Recommend it to anyone if you are not allergic to it.

My taste buds were back on the Tennessee River with the flavorful catfish, hush puppies, and coleslaw! YUMMY! The food was HOT and made fresh. The fries were tasty and firm - an average good! They were out of Diet Cokes in the bottle, but the kind, helpful, and cheerful owner (?) upped it to a large fountain drink (free refills, the norm). The only 'down' sides (if any), I don't use a lot of salt, and it seemed a bit salty to me... but, I'm guessing, normal to others. And they are in a strip mall building, so the cooking fans are loud when running. They are still working on decor, and seating is cozy (would've been uncomfortable in a busy time). Didn't have the stomach room to try the gumbo, collard greens, three or four pies ... next time!

First I suppose I need to establish my bonafides, I've grown up with southern cooking being that my father is from Louisiana and one hell of a cook. Now on to the review, my experience went thusly: I called the restaurant at 7:15 pm to call in an order for pick up since I knew that they closed at 8 pm. The first time I called, the phone rang to voicemail, the second time I was promptly placed on hold. I wanted to see how long they would leave me in hold limbo and so I didn't disconnect the call as I drove over to Lacey. I walked into the place (still on hold, mind you) and I see that the cashier is attempting to help a customer. She keeps running the customer's credit card and it won't go through (according to her) so she runs to the back and gets one of the cooks. He comes out and looks at the credit card machine and says, "it says Line Busy, are you on the phone?" She replies, "No." At which point, I speak up and say, "Yes you are, I'm still on hold." and smile. I guess she forgot about me. I had come because a coworker raved about the seafood gumbo, which they were out of. I acknowledge that this is my fault, I should have gotten there earlier and I don't find fault with them running out of things a half hour before closing time. I ended up ordering some cod, shrimp and peach cobbler. The cod is coated in panko and is cooked perfectly, no greasy at all. However, I only got four small pieces for which was supposed to be a large order. They had also run out of hush puppies and offered no substitutions to replace it. The shrimp was overdone and very rubbery, the cocktail sauce that comes with it, watery and tasteless. The fries were cold and the cole slaw much too sweet. The peach cobbler was practically inedible, I ate three bites before throwing it away. Not sweet at all, mushy and overcooked peaches, no taste to speak of, it reminded me of glue. The entire dish was reminiscent of Riley's comment about Mrs. Dubois peach cobbler, "Your peach cobbler look like throw up." So far the only places I've been able to find true southern food have been Marcela's and Casper's in Seattle. This is another miss for Thurston County.

Jus bout all of the menu items are good. People complaining must expect something else. Really? Complaints bout seating and phone service? I thought it's bout the food. Collard greens are cooked just right with great flavor. Gumbo has a nice spiciness that I love. The have added a new menu item mac and cheese this is very delicious as well the cheese sauce is great on the macaroni. Sweet tea has the right sweetness to quench my thirst. Recommend this place hopefully they expand the dining area.

Had a great lunch-small catfish basket. The fillets were great! Good breading, nicely fried and not greasy. Fries were very good also, as was the coleslaw. They were out of hush puppies, but when I was done I was stuffed anyway so this was no biggie. I will be back to enjoy other items on the menu like collard greens which is one of my favorites. So get to Beau Legs and enjoy!

My first visit today. Definitely pleased with the halibut and chips, and their chowder. I had to go back in because they forgot my chowder, and no one else was there, but all in all I will definitely return.

Beau Legs! Odd name great southern fish and chips and more. Gumbo, delicious home made clam chowder and artisan level home made peach cobler are also features. The fish is lightly breaded classic and absolutely NOT greasy. All items high are quality and expertly cooked. The Lacey area has needed a quality fish and chips joint and Beau Legs has stepped up! Catfish is outstanding as is the cole slaw. Be sure to try the house red sauce, as it puts that old time South right in your mouth. The family owned business treats all customers like their own. You are gonna like this place!

  • Casey D.

The other reviewers do not lie. This is indeed the best breaded / fried seafood that I have had in the South Sound. The fish I had (halibut, catfish, tilapia) was cooked perfectly and the breading was flavorful. Hushpuppies were decent (compared to those in TN), fries were fine, and the slaw was actually quite good (am not a big slaw fan normally). I imagine that slaw would be fantastic though heaped on a fat BBQ sandwich. Got a couple of big shrimp and some thick juicy fried clam strips with the Captain's Platter. The fried clam strips were some of the best I have had. You can actually taste the clam! The sweet tea was good too, a little on the sweet side for sweet tea, but still well balanced. The place is very small, but luckily a couple of tables were free when we went in at lunch. The lady taking orders and serving was super friendly and chatted with customers when it was not busy. If you like Southern-fried seafood and live in the Lacey/Oly area, you must go here!

We have driven past this restaurant tucked into a new "business park" strip mall in Lacey several times. We are always looking for a good fish and chip shop. My husband and I both ordered the small Cod basket. I chose the cod because I didn't want a heavy batter and the owner (I am assuming he was wearing the chef's jacket), said that it was in a panko coating as the tilapia and catfish were in a corn meal batter and the Halibut was in a beer batter. I am guessing my husband ordered the cod because I did; he says when he orders something different my meal is always better than his. It did not disappoint. The basket came with two sizable pieces of fish, chips (fries), two hush puppies, and cole slaw. They also have other sides such as collard greens, fried okra (didn't spot fried pickles though), and other traditionally Southern foods, including peach cobbler. The fish was indeed crunchy on the outside, not over cooked, and no mushy coating. The fries had a great flavor. The cole slaw was not too gloppy, and the tartar sauce seemed to be made in house, had a nice combination of spices and herbs (dill and thyme maybe) in it. The hush puppies while tasty did seem a little overcooked to me, but I am by far no hush puppy expert. I would definitely go back. It isn't an Australian fish and chip shop. I think they would look at you funny if you asked for two flake and a minimum chips, but it is so much better than we had hoped! They were friendly, they have been open about 5 months now, and said they were doing pretty well. Good luck and keep up the good work!

Excellent atmosphere tucked in a small strip mall. Authentic, decent prices and friendly service. I had the shrimp 'po boy. The sandwich was amazing. I like thicker fries, but the taste of them were excellent. The breading and sauce on the sandwich were great. Will definitely eat here again.

I have had a couple of lunches here. I must say that it is a little expensive. $10-$14 for baskets. I have enjoyed the catfish, cod, and the po-boy sandwich. The fries are good. They also have fried pickles and fried corn on the cob. The pickles are alright but the corn wasn't the best. They do the fish right yo.

I have eaten here several times as I am from Alabama and I miss my grandma's good ole' country cooking. Even though I have come accustomed to the different cuisine here in the NW, I still sometimes crave fried catfish and okra. When I do, Beau Legs is the BEST!!!! I would not go anywhere else when I want something which tastes good, and has an awesome staff. They always have the best customer service. I am very impressed and will return often!!!!

OK, this is one eatery that I dream about. After finally trying this place a few months ago I dream and crave this place. I'm normally one that goes somewhere to order what I like. For me it's catfish and hotwings. Beau Legs is a place that the Olympia and Lacey has been needed. The catfish rivals the catfish that I ate in southern Tennessee and Alabama as a kid. The hot wings are the best, and largest, in the area. The collard greens are great. The fried okra...well, they are the best I have ever had. I made the mistake in putting hot sauce, like I normally do, on them in the beginning but I won't make that mistake again. The okra without the hot sauce great beyond any reason. The cashier, I believe she is the owner, is welcoming and friendly beyond any restuarant in the area. My only negative comment was that they were closed when I tried to visit on Dec 26 (federal holiday), when I was craving them the most. I will eat here again, again and again. Hungry for southern food....this is the place. It may be the only place in town but what a outstanding place it is. I would put them up with any eateries in the south. This is the best soul food place in the Olympia area...worth a drive off of I-5. Just don't arrive on Mondays...they are closed.

We went to the location on Pacific our first time there....But it won't be our last. We really enjoyed the food it was very good. We know they just opened and are still working on the inside but that will come in time. The staff was great very friendly. We would have liked it if the wait staff came over more. The music was good and the crowd was fun and we enjoyed our time sat. feb. 16th. Can't wait to try the gumbo....they sold out

Beau Legs is true southern comfort food. From their homemade tarter sauce to their homemade coleslaw this place has a taste like no other in the area! The crew running this place really knows how to make you feel like a VIP. A great selection and not a long wait till your filling your tummy up! Be warned though.. fried foods are heavy here! So don't come while you're on a diet!

Beau Legs serves amazing, fresh, deep fried goodness. In my opinion, the only downside to eating here is you smell like a fryer the rest of the day. My wife and I have had the fish basket, chicken strip basket, shrimp po' boy, hush puppies, and fried okra so far. The fried okra is the best I've ever had. After eating their fried okra I don't know if I dare have it anywhere else and risk disappointment. The po' boy had a delicious chipotle mayo and whole pieces of shrimp. Beau Legs is our new destination for seafood/southern style food. Did I mention we live in West Olympia and drive all the way out to nearly exit 111 on I-5 to eat here? It's that good.

  • Tiffany D.

My husband and I are from the south and let me tell you this place is awesome! The girl taking our order was super sweet and enthusiastic. She really seemed to loved her job. The food is excellent. I haven't had fried catfish since we left the south years ago and when we got it here i almost cried it was so good. Its home away from home for us. Also if you dont know what fried okra is... you should get some here b/c its so fresh and wonderful! They do run out of things here and there but its understandable seeing as you cant get alot of these items from a grocery store down the road. We will definatly be coming back to Beau Legs!!!!

This place is directly across the street from me. I drove/walked past for 6 months, saying " that place looks good" finally I stopped last week! Lemme just say if i could go back in time,i would eat there every single day instead of driving past. This place is that good! I have had alot of sandwhichs claiming to be a po'boy but none stood up to the real soul cookin I used to eat in mississippi, until now, this po'boy was like an orgasim on a french roll! great sauce and fat shrimps! i also got a halibit and sweet tea which reminded me of my aunt mimi's whose recipie was lost years ago when she passed. I haven't had the chicken but I am sure its just as amazing. In fact I made my self so hungry. i think ill get me some now..........

We've always been looking for a good Fish 'n Cjips place in the area, and so far our experiences were so-so. No more! I registered on Yelp just so I could spread the word on Beau Legs. The menu is typical fare - except for the catfish. So we ordered a small basket of that and a large basket of halibut. Prices are decent ($6-$9 range). The food took a little while, but the wait was worth it. The batter crust was crispy but not greasy, the fish firm but not dry. Very good flavor overall. The fries were the icing on the cake - skinny (shoe-lace type) and crispy with some spices. Also not too greasy. The catfish was good, but I must say it is an acquired taste. The hushpuppies were delicious! The lady that took our orders even came by our table near the end of our meal - somewhat unusual in a restaurant of this kind. A very satisfying experience overall! Best Fish 'n Chips in the South Sound area we've had so far.

Now this is comfort food. Shrimp Po' Boys, deep fried catfish, and seafood gumbo are all delights on this menu. They have classic southern items like collard greens, red beans/rice, and fried okra. The Po'boy had so much shrimp it was pouring out the sides. Staff is very friendly and personable. This small place does get crowded during the dinner hours.

Went here for lunch with a group of four adults and my 1 1/2 year old daughter and really enjoyed both the food and the staff. I enjoyed the BBQ brisket sandwich and hush puppies, my daughter enjoyed the grilled cheese sandwich and sweet potato fries. I can't remember what everyone else had, but I do remember that we were all saying how delicious it was:) This isn't a place to go for a quick in and out meal, but is a great place to go to have good, quality, food. Almost a month later and I'm still telling everyone about it!

I never knew this place existed until I had to go to a physical therapist across the parking lot. They need a sign out by the road. You get a cautious opinion when you first walk in due to the strong grease smell, but you get used to it quickly. Don't let that sway you, because the fish is not greasy. The first time I went there, I had the catfish. Oh, I love the cornmeal breading. I'm never into coleslaw, however scarfed hers right up. I believe the lady taking the orders(she is so sweet) might be one of the owners with her husband being the cook. (I'm speculating as she told me she makes the coleslaw). The cook came out and asked me how everything was and gave me a sample of his shrimp gumbo) On my next visit (2 weeks later), I tried the cod. I wasn't into that as much as the catfish. I intend to try everything on the menu :) I think the prices are a bit high, but will not stop me from returning.

I was at the Capital Food and Wine Festival when I ran across the Beau Legs booth. This place has always drawn my attention on Martin Way East as I drive home from work eavery day. Well anyway, I am leery of eating catfish these days, but said to myself, "What the hey," and ordered a catfish sandwich. It was absolutely wonderful! The breading on the catfish was light and complemented the slightly spicy taste of the fish. The sauce was also slightly tangy and when you mix all of thid together within crunchy bread you have the makings of a truly flavorful experience. Next time after a long day at work I will be sure to stop in.

The reviews from fellow yelpers is what made me want to try Beau Legs out. We stepped up to the counter where you order by a smiling helpful young women. My DH and I came here today, we were not disappointed. DH had the 3 pc. catfish, and I had the 2 pc. cod. I was very glad I only had the 2 pc, the pcs. were rather large. The catfish was wonderful, the breading perfect and moist inside and not greasy at all. My cod was great as well. The coleslaw was okay to me, a little on the sweet side, but I still ate most of it. I liked the hush puppies, although I thought they could have been warmer, DH didn't care for them, just his preference. The fries were good, but I also (as one mentioned) like a large fry, and the tartar sauce was yummy as well. We will definately go back to try some of the other menu items and maybe a dessert. The service was friendly and the inside is very clean. Sorry Nick, but we didn't think we smelled liked grease when we left, nor inside the bldg. either.

This place is wonderful the prices are so reasonable it is amassing. Let's set the record straight this is not a full service restaurant it is like a order at the counter type place so if you want super service and to be pampered go to fine dining. The waitress gave us more service than we ever expected for this type place!! Try it it the food is great!
