Dude. This place is out of control tasty. I don't even look at what I order, I just pick something random and it always tastes great! The selection of spring rolls seems to be where it's at though! It's always very fast, and the place is always incredibly clean. I go there on lunch breaks when I work downtown. It's become a new treat to us at the office =D

Amazing Bahn Mi sandwiches! I just relocated here and I used to live very close to a Vietnamese sandwich shop in Phoenix that was very good. I was happy when my friend took me to Plume to try these great sandwiches. I got the Vietnamese BBQ pork with pickled carrots and jalapeno. It had the perfect balance of crunch and spicy. The service was great as well. I will definitely be back and if they have Vietnamese coffee I will be getting that on my next visit.

Great place for a healthy quick lunch. Love their French ice coffee, which is quick strong but also sweet and refreshing. Great for summer time. What I love their Vietnam style sandwich is, they put lots of sweet, sour and crunchy pickled vegetables in the sandwich. The pickles balance out the meat in the sandwich, and added subtle flavors. Perfect for summer time. At ordering, they also ask if you want jalapeno and cilantro for no extra charge. We ordered grilled beef, 2 ham and sausage sandwiches. Grilled beef was OK. They used Asian/Taiwanese/Cantonese style sausage in the sandwich. This sausage contains less starch and was dried during the process, so the texture is pretty dense like salami, yet the flavor is tend to the sweet side, which goes great with those pickles. For the two ham sandwich, one ham is soft like pate, while the other is in fact Cha Siu meat, a Chinese style smoked pork. The pork got a little fat, which is perfect because it makes the sandwich much more moisten. The restaurant got big windows and bar stools along those windows. So the customers can eat and people watch at the same time, which is great for a sunny summer day.

Delicious. Best banh mi I've had in a while, maybe because the bread was warm but it was perfect. Filled properly and the service was very friendly. I would come here everyday for lunch if I could. Highly recommend it!

Mmm... rice noodle bowl.... I like that they have a downtown Kirkland location, plenty of places to sit (they're usually empty when I stop by), and pretty good prices. The employees have all seemed nice and helped me make a decision when I couldn't figure out what I wanted to order. I got the feeling that at least some of the employees are high school students. I wish I could say more about this spot, but nothing comes to mind. Guess I'll just go back next time I'm really hungry and want a big rice noodle (and tofu) bowl?

Don't try to come here anytime close to closing. It's 7:55 and the lights are off and the doors locked. Really disappointing

Great banh mi. Spring rolls were absolutely great have been here two times have never been disappointed friendly service very clean environment I highly recommend

Ice coffee. Good flavor of coffee, nice spiced taste, light as a whole though. I would say watered down tasting but it was a small portion, so unless they are over reusing the grounds that shouldn't be an issue The sammiches, meh. The bread wasn't crispy on the outside, even though it was burnt at an edge. The toppings were fresh, but there was very little pork...which was a good thing in the end because the grilled pork tasted like leather The grilled pork roll must have come from the freeziest part of their fridge because it was nearly ice cold. The pork was, again, over cooked and way too tough. The rest of the innerds were pretty good. It's a shame. If they had less cruddy grilled meat, this would have been a positive review. But otherwise. Meh Oh, and in case my lack of mentioning the pho in a Vietnamese review, they don't do soup here.

I'm still trying to think how my husband and I found Plume. I think we were in the Kirkland area, and just happened to stumble upon Plume. So glad we did, because their vietnamese sandwiches are so delicious! I have had vietnamese sandwiches in Seattle, S.F, L.A, and Plume offers a unique modern interpretation of a traditional banh mi. THE HITS: (1) The PERFECT bread to protein ratio. I cannot stand when a sandwich is all bread and barely any fixings in the center. The soft baguette Plume uses compliments the plentiful protein, pickled vegetables in the center. (2) PATE!! A true banh mi is no banh mi without that delicious pate. I usually ask for extra on my sandwich. (3) 2-Ham Banh Mi is my favorite. The ham has just enough rendered fat on it to really bring out the flavor. My husband's favorite is the grilled beef (reference Phily B's photo for details) (4) The place is very clean. You know when you walk into an asian restaurant, and you know the food is good, but you don't really want to know how they prep the food behind the scenes? Yeah-you won't have that problem here. You can actually watch them prep the banh mi in front of you. THE MISSES: (1) The only reason why I'm deducting a star is the price. It's a bit pricey for a sandwich. About $8.50, when competitors are charging about $4-5. Obviously it doesn't bug me too much since I've gone back a ton. Thank you Plume for the perfect banh mi!

If this place was closer to work for me, I can see myself coming here every so often. However, it was bit of a stretch to get here, so probably won't make the trek over just for this again. It's like a modern Vietnamese deli (with only banh mi and rolls mostly). Lunch spot. Food: I got the lunch combo: 8" banh mi and one spring roll. My friend also got the same thing so we got different stuff and went halfsies to try more. I got regular spring rolls (with pork and shrimp) and he got grilled beef roll. Both were pre made and refrigerated. At least that's what it tasted like bc it was super cold when we got it. Rolls not worth it. Barely any shrimp in one of mine. I tried the 2 ham banh mi and grilled pork. The bread is pretty good. Bread to meat ratio was good. Some places have too much bread. The bread also doesn't crumble like crazy when you bite into it. The pate on the 2 ham banh mi tasted a little weird/different than what I've had in the past. Not sure which sandwich was better...maybe 2 ham. Prices: The combo was $8. Or 8" is $6, 12" is $8. Ok, may sound crazy for a Vietnamese sandwich, but $8 is not bad at all for lunch...even though it's usually wayyy cheaper. I didn't mind trying it out. Overall, not bad if you are in the area and want food like this, but no need to drive all the way here just to try it out or anything.

  • Chenda N.

What is really impressive is that the toasted bread doesn't crumble all over you when you take a bite, NICE! Overall the sandwich is really good and much better than the ones I have ordered around Seattle Chinatown or Vietnamese restaurants. The staff was friendly and fast. I enjoy their Plume sauce however, there is a bit too much on the sandwich. I'll be sure to ask for less next time. I ordered the chicken sandwich and will try something else just to explore the menu. Great seating outside for sunny days and you know how beautiful that is on a bright day in Kirkland.

  • Shino O.

Vietnamese sandwich in subway style, huh? Not bad. I picked up fresh spring roll today, as the description on the chalk board inspired my inner cravings for fresh ingredients. The grilled pork spring roll has nice contrast between soft marinade pork and crisp veggies. Rice noodle, satisfying. Dipping sauce, chunky and saucy. Yet something... something is missing. I crave for more complex impact. What is it, I wonder. Perhaps next time I want to try to custom order (if they let me) with a few sprigs of green onions, slices of chili, cucumber, arugula and garlic fish sauce.

    (3)
  • Nina T.

Fast and tasty! I especially like the lunch combo that comes with a sandwich and spring roll for ~$10. The normal price for a banh mi is a bit expensive for the amount of meat that comes in the sandwich, which is the main thing that keeps this from being 5 stars. The staff is really friendly. Happy to have this in downtown Kirkland!

  • Tim H.

A friend of mine from Vietnam, recommended I meet her at Plume in Kirkland for lunch. She said it was the best Bánh mì she's ever had. And she was born in Vietnam and emigrated to the US in 1975. WOW! I agree with my friend Mai. We had the spring rolls first and they and the peanut dip/sauce were quite delectable. The Bánh mì s? THE BEST!!! I've had them in Boston, New York, and Seattle and these at Plume were simply the best! The bread was stupendous! Man oh man! (The word "Bánh mì" is derived from bánh and mì (or wheat). The baguette, was introduced to Vietnam by the French during its colonial period.) The fillings were more generous in quantity than usual with a basic Vietnamese flavoring, that was a cut above the rest I've had. That was the best Bánh mì I've had in my life!!! Cheers! Tim

After reading the reviews of my fellow Yelpers I fully expected to really like Plume. Lo, it was not to be. The bahn mi was a real disappointment; I daresay the "sandwich artists" at Subway place their ingredients with greater care. And the ingredients themselves were quite underwhelming, they were neither particularly fresh or tasty. Other reviewers have described the baguette used here as "chewy" - I believe the more fitting description is "mushy". The outside of the Plume baguette is pale and doughy rather than golden and crunchy. The bahn mi at Pho Tai, about a block northeast is far superior. The Pho Tai baguette is properly crisp outside and moist inside, the ingredients are fresh and tasty, and the sandwich as a whole is crafted with attention to ingredient proportions rather than just plopped haphazardly into a bun. (I think it's about a buck less too.) The Plume interior is spartan and undistinguished which is fine for a lunch sandwich I suppose. It's unadorned cement interior is reminiscent of a visit to the snack bar at the Kirkland Costco.

I love this place because they have taken an already beautiful, beautiful thing (Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwiches) and made it better. Something about the spices they use - characterized by their Plume Spring Roll - cause a rainbow of sensation and delight to erupt on my taste buds. I haven't found it anywhere else. The staff are friendly, concise, and get you out of the door quickly. I just wish the prices were a little lower, and that they could open up in more locations!!

Kirkland needs more affordable but quality fast food options like Plume. A banh mi seems like such a simple sandwich, but it's hard to make it well. The bread at Plume is the ideal amount of chewy and crispy, leaning more towards the chewy side so you aren't cutting your mouth on the exterior of the sandwich as I often find myself doing with most banh mi. I got the chicken, and the meat was extremely tender and well-marinated. They balance the sandwich with pickled radish and carrots, cilantro, and jalapeños, which add the sour flavor that I love with the savory meat. Plume is one of the best Vietnamese sandwiches that you'll find on the Eastside, and I'll definitely be back for more whenever I'm in the area!

  • Jeff C.

A more falvorful (and healthy) alternative to the other sandwich places. Got an 8" pork as I had already ate three street tacos an hour earlier. If this is all I ate for lunch I'd need two of these, or at least a 12". Simple and flavorful. Not the best value but pretty inline with what you should be paying in downtown Kirkland. Bread is really good here. I like it as much as the bread at Sarducci especially considering it's not as big of a roll so there's a better balance between the bread and the other ingredients where Sarducci's the bread really dominates. This has been added to my lunch rotation. Thumbs up.

One of the best Banh Mi 's I've had! Great location in Kirkland, fresh and great taste. The bread makes the sandwhich!

  • Jennifer H.

The tofu banh mi at Plume is to die for. We brought relatives from out of town with us, and they couldn't believe how tasty the sandwiches were. I really hope Plume gets enough business to stay open for a long, long time!

  • Michelle C.

The interior and seating itself was pretty limited, and so my friend and I decided to take our meal to-go and eat at the Kirkland waterfront. I got the grilled park banh mi with jalapenos (which weren't spicy at all...) and iced French Vietnamese coffee. Overall, it was alright -- definitely a more Americanized version of banh mi that I've tried. If I had to choose, I think I'd rather go to the Banh Mi Unwrapped in the UDistrict or someplace in the International District.

The ham is totally not what I expected. I don't know if it's Vietnamese ham or what, but I made the mistake of ordering it for my kids. Would have been better off with beef for chicken. Felt like a small amount of food for the money.

Best sandwiches on the Eastside! I always recommend plume. The owner is so nice and so are the staff.

    (5)
  • Tanya T.

Great sandwich option in Kirkland! Perfect amount of food when ordering a sandwich. Grilled chicken is good. Grilled pork is even better! The owner is there a lot and makes the best sandwiches, but the other employees make decent ones too. Very quick service. You can't leave a tip unless you have cash.. So it's best to have a few spare dollars on hand!

  • Kassidy W.

Their spring rolls are fantastic, especially with the peanut sauce that has grilled onions in it, so good. Their tofu bahn mi is one of the best around with pickled carrots and daikon, fresh cilantro and jalapenos, with (again) their grilled onions that add a nice touch. I really like this place and recommend the lunch combo with a bahn mi and spring roll for $7.50.

  • Cressida F.

I love Banh mi sandwiches and having lived in Minnesota where there is a big Vietnamese population with numerous Vietnamese restaurants I can honestly say that the food here isn't that great. This place needs to marinate their meat a lot better and find another spread for their Banh mi sandwiches. Also the CHICKEN in the dish that we ordered with noodles, lettuce and cucumber was super DRY and had NO FLAVOR. 1 star for taste 1 star for overpriced on their egg rolls

When I saw Plume in the yelp email I knew I had to try it. I was a little skeptical only because I've had my fair share of good bahn mi in Seattle and can tell you where to go to get specific ones (thanks mom). First off, I think the decor is totally un-bahn mi like, which is a good thing. It's fancy bahn mi, not one of those deli like places where you can't really sit, wrapped in white paper kind of places but an actual sit down establishment. Points for that (and cleanliness)! I ordered the grilled chicken bahn mi and oh my gosh, it was great. I love soft bread (prefer it over the super crunchy kind) and was pleasantly surprised when I found that the bread was just the right amount of crunch without sacrificing the softness. The pickled vegetables were superb, everything fresh. I loved the mayo, growing up that was always one of my favorite parts the mayo-do bread (I'm not crazy). My only qualm was that my chicken was a little cold. Okay, and I suppose the fact that it was an $8 bahn mi. I love bahn mi, that being said my favorite bahn mi is in Vietnam...but I'd gladly go back to Plume if I find myself craving a bahn mi on the Eastside.

Taste-wise, maybe a 4. But wow. Great value. For 7 bucks you get this massive 12 inch Bahn Mi. Recommended. and yes they take American Express. I had Grill Pork Bahn Mi and a couple of the spring rolls.

Can't believe I forgot to review this place! After a bit of Yelping, we figured this was the spot to head before Peter Pan. It was a total score. Best bahn mi I've ever had. Hands down. Like, just off the wall delicious, clearly better seasoned and made with more care than the more traditional rendition. Tons of super fresh cilantro (and believe me, I know my cilantro!), perfectly seasoned pork, super fresh crunchy veggies, oh, and, HUGE! Super, super nice staff goes a long way too. Sandwiches took a while, and so, so, worth it! Least regret I've ever felt eating out. Huge sandwich, too much for a normal person (not quite enough for me - luckily I had company!) for like $8. So prime. Try it out. You might write a mixed review, but mine sure was delicious! I think it's a pretty good bet. Thanks for listening!

  • Gina F.

Yummy yummy!! The bahn mi sandwiches and spring rolls here are simple, fresh, and tasty! I've had the chicken and pork bahn mis and they are both terrific. The pork & shrimp spring rolls and the chicken spring rolls are also great. Very simple menu - the bahn mis are all the same except for the protein (ham, pork, chicken, beef, tofu, and sometimes specials). The bread is nice & crusty but soft and I love the pickled carrots and daikon. Fresh cilantro and cucumbers, their delicious mayo like plume sauce, and optional jalapeños round it out. Service is efficient and friendly. Check it out!

My favorite Vietnamese sandwiches! They are fresh and generously sized for the price.

  • Magdalene T.

With the high ratings on yelp, I had expected more. The sandwiches were decent, lunch special (combo) well priced, but compared to Yeh Yeh's which are double the size, 2/3 the price and overall much tastier, I was disappointed. I am still very glad to have this as an option in downtown Kirkland but I would not drive here just for these.

    (3)
  • Smriti Y.

I tried the tofu banh mi and I found it to be ok. I was expecting it to be way more flavorful than it actually was. This was the first time I ate a banh mi so I can hardly comment on how it compared to an authentic taste.

The Best Vietnamese Sandwiches we've had! PROs: * They don't skimp on the meat! You will definitely get a nice ratio of meat to veggies in the sandwiches here. * The bread is light and crispy. It adds the perfect texture to the sandwich. * The 12in is the perfect size. It will leave you full but not bloated. * I hate carrots but I love the pickled carrots here! The daikon radish (white noodle looking things) tasted great as well. Overall, then entire thing was fresh.. And well... just PERFECT! * Seating is a pretty good amount for a sandwich shop. There are a few 4 tops, with a bunch of single seating, perfect for lunch hour in downtown Kirkland. * Price is very affordable for the taste, freshness, and quality you get in return. * AFTER TAX PRICES: 8in = $5.15ish; 12in = $7.35ish CONs: * The one thing Nansay and I talk about.. Is the lack of a potato chip, or some kind of side dish to go with the sandwich. I know that'd be mixing cultures but we were really missing a nice little snack on the side. Honestly, the sandwiches are still amazing on their own. * Plume is located in downtown Kirkland. Sometimes you can find parking right in front of the store. Other times you cannot. If you need parking, head about 1 block west (towards the water) on Kirkland Ave for a small parking lot. OTHER COMMENTS: * When ordering a sandwich they will always ask whether or not you want jalapenos. I love spicy food. Nansay feels it's a bit much for her. Case and point, if you can't handle spicy foods, tell them to hold the jalapenos. QUICK TIP: * If you take one home and need to reheat your sandwhich, I recommend you take the vegetables out, then place the bread and meat in the oven. Set your oven to Broil for a quick minute (keep an eye on it you might burn it!) then take it out. Add back the veggies and add a little mayo as the original sauce probably dried up a bit. And there you go! It's a great way to bring the bread back to its crispy state. * Here is a link to their current menu: plumeseattle.com/#!/page… FAVORITES: * Phily: Grilled Beef Banh Mi (add extra mayo) *See our photos * Nansay: 2 Ham Banh Mi (add extra pate) FINAL THOUGHTS: Nansay and I both agree these are the favorite Vietnamese Sandwich shop! No other place is yet to have come close. Our goal is to try to order some of the other dishes they have here. However, every time we walk in we can't resist getting a sandwich. We love the sandwiches here so much that we usually order two sandwiches EACH. We'll eat one at the shop, and bring one home for later.... Yah it's THAT GOOD. We'll be sure to come by again... and again, and again!

Grilled Chicken Banh Mi - 4/5 ($8) Have to admit I was pleasantly surprised at how well this sandwich was made :) Toasted on fresh, soft bread with plenty of meat and pickled veggies made this a delicious treat.

For an inexpensive meal in downtown Kirkland this Vietnamese fast food is OK, but the sandwich was dry and otherwise not up to other places I go so probably won't go back.

  • Matt L.

I'll keep this brief - terrific sandwich. I've run through my fair share of bahn mi. It takes some care and attention to pull off a pretty good version - bread needs to be right, crunch with the veg, and of course you need the flavor on the meat to be just so. My pork sandwich was...elevated. First bite made me stop walking and say "Damn" to myself. Terrific sandwich. Need to find the location on the Seattle side. Looking for a quick cheap bite? Don't hesitate and swing by Plume.

  • Yumiko K.

Plume is clean, sleek, and super fast at whipping up banh mi that does not cut your mouth up! I love banh mi, but some places use French bread encased in an almost armour-like hard shell so that it forms sharp edges when you bite into it and cut you up. Plume's bread has a nice crust, but it gives way easily as you sink your teeth into it. I ordered a lunch combo, which included an 8" banh mi (I got tofu) and a salad roll (veggie kind) for $6.75. An 8" banh mi for $4.75 is not a bad deal, but the amount of food I got for around $7.50 (after taxes) was ridiculous. I just love how they put a lot of fresh vegetables (lettuce, lightly pickled daikon and carrot, sliced jalapeno peppers) into both sandwich and roll. The tofu also had a nice flavour to it, and I really enjoyed both sandwich and roll. I was told they would be opening up another location in the U district. Hurray for Plume!

The Noodle Bowls are delicious!!! Some of the best I have ever had. Their pickled veggies are so yummy, I could have a bowl of them on their own!! Friendly service too, can't wait to go back!!

I've been keeping an eye out for good bahn mi for a while and the other day we came across Plume and decided to try it out. Plume's interior is unassuming and almost fast food-esque but don't let this discourage you, the food is delicious. We ordered two 12" grilled pork bahn mi's and a Vietnamese iced coffee. The bahn mi's were made to order, the baguettes were perfectly crunchy on the outside yet soft on the inside, the vegetables were crisp, and the meat was cooked perfectly and deliciously saucy. Cilantro and jalapenos are optional but the jalapenos especially added a delicious spiciness to the sandwich. The iced coffee was delicious as well, a nice strong coffee flavor balanced with the sweetness from the condensed milk.

My impression of Plume began before I even arrived in there. I called ahead to do a fairly large order for the office and the person on the phone was very friendly and double checked to make sure they got everything. When I called back to add to the order, I got another very friendly person and adding wasn't a problem at all. When I arrived, I was surprised at what I saw. The inside of Plume is very sleek and modern. It's mostly set up for solo diners, with a long bar of seating along the window, and a few couples tables on the wall. Usually Vietnamese restaurants or banh mi shops have a completely different aesthetic. Both employees greeted me and had everything ready to go when I arrived (additional orders included), and even offered me a box for easy carrying (I appreciated this, since I had parked on Park Lane and walked over). The sandwich prices are a little more expensive and a little different than your standard mom & pop banh mi place, but they don't disappoint. Like other yelpers have said, the bread was perfect, and the ingredients were fresh! None of us ordered spring rolls with meat in them, but everyone seemed pleased with their veggie rolls. The rolls also ended up being twice the size we thought they'd be! Because of this, I ended up saving half my roll. Luckily, everything was still crisp and delicious the following day, including the sauce! The only thing I wasn't totally in love with was the coffee. I've had better, but the coffee is not really what it's all about here. I'm really pleased downtown Kirkland found a great addition like Plume. I recommend everyone check them out and keep them in business! I'd like them to stay!

  • Lora L.

I use to come here a lot when it first opened because the bread use to be so soft and delicious and the ingredients were really flavorful but the past two times their bread has been so small and hard. The ingredients also are not the same, too salty and not enough vegetables like in the beginning. Sad!

Got the Sausage Bang Mi (as recommended by one of the girls there) and a Vietnamese french coffee. Both were delicious and brought me back to the time I spent in Vietnam. I'll definitely go back and recommend to anyone in the area looking for a tasty Banh Mi. My only complaint is that there was not very much meat on the sandwich.

+1 stars for taste of the Banh Mi and spring roll that we order (2 hams and beef Banh Mi and regular & Plume Spring roll) -1 star for stingy on the meat for the beef and sausage on the spring roll. -1 star on being over price, I have to admit I have to co

In regards to the Plume located close to the University District. What a yummy place to have yummy Vietnamese food. I love their sandwiches and noodle salads. I have been to and had very many different Vietnamese food, Plume is pretty good. The customer service is always friendly and they are clean. I appreciate the fact that they have lots of room for if you and friends and family want to hang out and eat at. I love the fact that they have a bar table to eat at and watch outside, if you enjoy looking out windows then sit in the bar style table. Great food, great choices, and people!!! Not to mention conveniently located close to BECU.

Plume is something I've been waiting for. An actual Banh mi shop in close proximity to a downtown area on the eastside! ...where I work. There have been a couple places before, attached to a nail shop in Bellevue (closed) or options on a pho restaurant menu, but those are expensive and hard to find for most people. In comes Plume. They have a pretty basic menu, sandwiches and spring rolls. (With one soup special). But that's all I need. The grilled pork is my favorite. So it's not the $1.75 An Xuyen banh mi from uwajimaya back in Beaverton, or the $2.50 ones in the ID. Or even the $3.50 ones from crossroads mall, but what can you do when it's downtown Kirkland? What it is, is loaded! Feshly made, heaping with lightly pickled daikon & carrots, cucumber and cilantro. Toasted baguette, tasty mayo sauce and thinly sliced jalapenos. You pay a little more ($4.75 for 8", $6.75 for 12") but it's worth it. I think they will do well. It's modern, visible, and reasonably priced with a great sandwich.

  • Joyce J.

I don't know if this place has the perfect banh mi but it is pretty good. I tried the banh mi grilled beef and the grilled pork. The grilled pork tasted more moist than beef but the beef one is also good. The plume spring rolls were a little bit on the dull side. The combo price is quite a bargain though (choice of 8 in sandwich and a spring roll). A nice place to come for a fast lunch.

Just moved to Kirkland, and this is the first place we tried -- based, of course, on Yelp reviews. We shared a 12" pork banh mi, and it was probably the most incredible Vietnamese sandwich I've ever had. The bread was crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside; the pork was perfect; and it had lots of wonderful veggies that really complemented the flavor of the pork. We asked them to leave out jalapenos and are glad we did, as the spice may have overpowered some of the more delicate flavors. I have been fantasizing about going back literally every day since. I have a feeling this place is going to become a weekly stop for me. Not a ton of seating inside, but just grab your sandwich to go and go eat it at the lovely waterfront park a block away.

While the food is great and the atmosphere is inviting, it is ultimately the outstanding service that keeps me coming back to this great place. If Taylor is working there, you will definitely have an awesome meal.

These guys know how to make a delicious bahn mi -- perfectly toasted bread, tender meat, and just the right amount of kick from jalapenos. The service was also terrific. Receipt says my server was Truong N -- he was super cheerful and deserves a shout-out here :)

[FOOD]: Came here with my parents and ordered the 12" chicken banh mi ($7.95) for myself, my dad ordered the special noodles ($7.95) and my mom ordered the banh mi lunch combo ($7.95) which comes with a 8" sandwich and one spring roll of choice. Although the banh mi sandwich does not pack a lot of meat, it was cooked perfectly and was extremely flavorful. The bread on the outside is not your traditional, cheap french roll that you typically get with a banh mi. Rather, it's slightly crispy on the outside and fluffy and slightly chewy (probably the best sandwich bread I've had in a while). It comes with your typical toppings like carrots, cucumber, cilantro, but is topped with "Plume" sauce which is their in-house sauce. It complimented everything perfectly and really tied the sandwich together. The spring rolls are your typical fresh rolls that have rice paper on the outside which wraps around rice noodles, veggies, and meat (we ordered chicken w/ it). These spring rolls can only get so good in terms of taste, but the quality was very good. The special noodles are nothing special (would not recommend it), but comes in a pretty large portion. It's basically like the filling of the spring rolls, but mixed together in a bowl and comes with fish sauce. [SERVICE]: This is more of a sandwich and fast food place so there's no direct service. You pay up front and bus your own table. The staff is nice and friendly though. [ATMOSPHERE]: Located right in downtown Kirkland in the more upscale area by the Kirkland Library and the French bakery. There are around 4-5 tables for parties of 4, and plenty of individual counter seats. We came around 1PM and had to wait around 8-10 minutes for our food. [TIPS]: Order the lunch combo for $7.95! It's a great deal and gives you a little bit of variety if you don't want to fill up on just a sandwich. [OVERALL]: This place probably makes the best banh mi sandwich that I've had outside of Mendocino Farms in Los Angeles, but the 50% higher costs relative to other banh mi sandwich eateries knocks it down to 4 stars.

Expensive. Silly bauhaus/brutalist/bubble-tea interior. Kirkland. But, it's the best bahn mi you can get in Seattle. I love my health code violating 2.75 Saigon Deli sandwiches as well, but this place is really hitting everything right. Crunchy french bread on the outside, fluffy on the inside (prob some rice flour used in there). For this adventurous but still american palate, Plume is to bahn mi as Din Tai Fung is to dumplings. Clean, meticulous, maybe lacking in soul a smidge, but not overpowering and just delicious. I dream of both.

I have been to both locations in Kirkland and on 25th right across from U-Village. Comparing in prices, you are definitely better off here for a quick and inexpensive bite. The sandwiches are just about the right size, savory in a lingering sort of way, a good way ! : P Try the new chinese BBQ pork, it's sweet and fragrant !

We went on a Bahn Mi excursion yesterday and hit the Saigon Deli for 2 Grilled Porkers. Pretty darned good. Then we went to the University District and hit Bahn Mi Unwrapped for the special Duck Confit. They are delish and will be on the top of the list. Then here it is a day later and we're still looking for the Holy Grail of Bahn Mi sands. This may be the spot for the best of the best of the best.

Awesome! Friendly staff, great bahn mi, yummy fresh rolls. The ingredients are fresh and the prices are good. The bread is perfect. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. I have been here twice and each time was a great experience. Very good.

Awesome location and very simple trendy decor ! Vietnamese iced coffee is delicious my only complaint is it was 75% filled on a 8 oz glass although i didn't ask for any room for anything. Shrimp spring rolls are fine very similar with those in other pho shops. The peanut sauce tastes great!! The price of everything on the menu is highly competitive. Less than $5 for sandwiches? i am game!!

Oh My G_d! If you have not been here, you must go. These guys have perfected teh banh mi sandwich. Here is the deal: the bread does not crumble all over your work clothes. The rest is great too! the perfect amount of meat and crunchy veggies. the owner nailed it. I believe his name is Ton. super nice guy. They are opening in Seattle near U-Village. I live in Seattle and cant wait for it to open. Ton you are awesome. Keep up the good work!

I found this place about a week after they moved in. I have really started to digg their food. $4.75 for a 8" Banh Mi Sandwich or walk a block and get a $5 foot long at Subway? This is a no brainier! Plume makes very good Banh Mi Sandwiches and for the price you can not go wrong. The staff is very friendly and quick. Kirkland is known for fast turnover in buisnesses but I hope these guys stick around for a long time.

Light & Fresh Sandwiches on baguette bread! Reasonablly Priced, Great Location, and Kind Service! (and I love their logo :-)) I tried Grilled Chicken Bahn Mi (=Sandwich), Grilled Pork Bahn Mi, and Vietnamese Coffee. Meat were very tender. They grill them in front of you. Not cheesy greasy salty. Just perfect. Their baguette crust was soft, not overly crunch, so I liked it. Usually I cannot eat baguette sandwich because the outside part is too hard to chew. But Plume's bread was just my style. :-) They were all very good- Vegetabless (Radish, Carrot) inside sandwiches are pickled with Vietnamese sauce & vinegar. Mildly sour & Flavourful which wakes up my appetite. And Fresh Cilantro on top of the veges! hhmmm.. Their Iced coffee was rich & tasty, but they use condensed milk, so it feels a bit stickier at the bottom of coffee cup. Anyway, it tasted good. Service was kind and fast. Perfect location where you can grab light lunch after jogging or walk at the park. It was nice to try something different. I was getting sick of Subway, and this place was a great finding in the local. I would definately go back every weekend!

best bahn mi chicken I've had in a long time. for what ever reason the shop isn't very busy.... I think the name has something to do with it - plume and a feather on the sign...people think this is a pen and paper store not a yummy sandwich shop. A quick name change to "Best Damn Bahn Mi Shop" would do the trick. keep it simple. besides who wants to see a feather on a logo when you are eating chicken? Just a thought.

Nice service. It's American version of banh mi so the price is fair. Everything is fresh and made to order.

Pork banh mi was big and amazing! The 8" was enough to be satisfying and it was only $4.95. It was so good I wish I got the 12" for $6.95! They offer you cilantro and jalapenos for the sandwich, and I only got cilantro which turned out great. My brother got cilantro and japalenos, and said it was a little too much flavor-wise. The spring rolls were really good and fresh, but in my opinion not really worth it but I don't like spring rolls too much anyways. You get 4 fairly large spring rolls for around $4-5.

Welcome to Kirkland, banh mi overlords! I fully agree with the other Yelp reviews: yes, a Plume banh mi costs a couple of dollars more than other banh mi places in the Seattle area but it is more than worth it. They use great ingredients (they don't skimp on the meat in their banh mi and you don't end up with a mouthful of cilantro), nice soft bread (does not cut up your palate), and a bonus for me: thin slices of jalapenos and crunchy fried garlic or onion chips (I ate it too quickly to distinguish what it was... oops). A sub-$5 dinner in Kirkland? I think I've found my new happy place and it's so close to home! Service is great -- the banh mi guy is always smiling and it's contagious. The inside of the shop is super clean and modern, there is plenty of seating inside and on the sidewalk and there is parking on the street and in the Merrell Gardens building. So good, I will definitely be back. Often.

I tried this Vietnamese sandwich for lunch the other day. It was good; however nothing so special compared to other $3 Vietnamese sandwich. Bread was fresh and good but then again most Vietnamese sandwich places bake own bread at their place too. $8 isn't bad for lunch but I expected a bit more...

The grilled chicken banh mi is amazing! Plume is located in downtown Kirkland and is a nice looking place with modern decor and very clean. I've been there twice so far and it hasn't been very busy either time. I get the 8" sandwich and it fills me up. Their sandwiches cost more than a bahn mi from someplace in downtown Seattle but you get what you pay for. The sandwiches are prepared well and they're heartier than your typical banh mi. Recommended!

  • debbie k.

just like everyone says, the sandwiches are great, especially the fresh-baked bread that is soft yet crisp! My ONLY complaint and the reason I'm writing this review, is the spring rolls. Whether you order pork, pork + shrimp, or just shrimp, they really skimp on the meat. Today we had the shrimp spring rolls and it was like 95% noodles/lettuce with a few very small shrimps that looked like they were sliced in half.

Why 5 stars? great location with parking, the hip ultra clean decor, awesome fast efficient service, and their Banh Mi is top notch. Fresh wonderful bread - (baked same day, I am told) - that is very soft in the middle and crispy on the outside - (they toast it right in front of you!), very mild in flavor which allows the flavors of the fresh ingredients to shine through. We tried the chicken, combination ham, and the grilled pork Banh Mi. They were so flavorful, the meats were marinated to perfection and grilled perfectly. I can taste the wonderful spices coming right through. There was also a lot of fresh veggies in there to balance the meats to bread. The traditional pickled carrots and daikon in the sandwich is also made on site fresh (I can see the tubs in the back kitchen!). The mayo they use is a bit different, but wonderful and creamy, I hear they make this fresh as well (not sure). Their spring rolls are packed with fresh ingredients and the meat is the same as that used in the sandwich - see above. The peanut sauce that goes with this has a little extra fried onions which gives it a slightly different spin and more aromatics.

My experience here has been pretty inconsistent, leaving me no choice but to give the place an average rating. The first time I went to the shop I loved it. My husband and I shared the Plume Spring Rolls and I got the Tofu Bahn Mi and I don't remember what he had. It was my first time having a bahn mi sandwich and it was delicious and much better than I expected. (My husband had told me about bahn mi sandwiches but they didn't sound as appetizing as it actually tasted)! We also shared a Vietnamese coffee that was very tasty!!! The next time I went in my sandwich was not up to par. I think they might have forgotten to toast it and there were hardly any vegetables on it. The store hadn't been busy at all when I went it so I was thoroughly disappointed that they didn't put much effort into my food. This last time I went the food was great again! I went in at lunch time (around 12:30 - 1:00) I ordered the same thing, an 8" Tofu Bahn Mi sandwich and the spring rolls. My sandwich was toasted and full of veggies and the spring roll was super. My disappointment came later when I was walking by again and noticed they had lunch specials, which included an 8" sandwich and any choice of spring roll for a fraction of the cost I paid. I hadn't noticed that when I ordered...but shouldn't the employee who rang me up have asked if I wanted the lunch special or just have given me the discounted price?! She had served me before so it is not like she was new and ill informed. So this last time the good food was offset by the mediocre service. All in all, my few great experiences here have been met by mediocre ones. I would recommend eating here with caution. If you visit Kirkland often enough, then "try, try again," otherwise, I recommend perhaps seeking out a place that hits the hammer on the nail every time.

I don't pass through Kirkland often but am so glad I took the time to stop for lunch here. I had some difficulty finding a parking place but it proved worth the effort. I got a pork bahn mi sandwich, which had marinated pork slices stacked with sliced carrot, hikima, jalepeno, and mint on a fresh baguette bun (I asked for no cucumber). No sauce as far as I could tell, just flavorful meat and fresh crunchy veggie toppings. It was so good! A very satisfying lunch.

Recently went to Plume for lunch. What a great place. I was really impressed with everything. The food tasted super fresh. The prices are great. Really low prices for lunch food! Most everything was under $5 buck except for the special noodles, which I think was $6 bucks. You also get A LOT of food! 8-12 inch sandwichs and HUGE spring rolls. Had the pork spring roll during my last visit. Super yummy! Will be back soon for some more great food! :D

I was so happy to hear that a Banh Mi place opened up in Kirkland and I am happy to report they do not disappoint! I am a fiend for Banh Mi and I'm super picky, so when I said it's good, I mean it's REALLY good. I have to agree with other reviewers, a lot of places around here have bread that's so hard it slices the roof of my mouth, this is crispy on the outside but quickly gives way into soft french bread loaf. :) I've had their 2 Ham Banh Mi, the Tofu Banh Mi, and their spring rolls. Everything is very fresh and crispy and absolutely perfect for warm sunny days by the Kirkland waterfront. I love the fact that I can park very close to them for up to two hours and enjoy my sandwich while sitting down at Moss Bay. All in all, I'd recommend you go there and support a local business! I want these guys to do well so I can get high quality Banh Mi without going to the International District, so I guess I'm being a little selfish. :) Quick Tips: -If you like peanut sauce I recommend you try their Spring Rolls, the peanut sauce is amazing and the rolls are super tasty. -I can buy lunch for my whole team at work for about 25 dollars, that's a win in my book. -Splurge and get the 12", I can't even finish half of it for lunch so I get to have leftovers for dinner and the sandwich holds up for hours! -Mercedes and all of the employees working there are very friendly and incredibly accommodating, if you have questions, they seem more than happy to answer them! I will definitely be coming back very soon.

Love the chicken bahn-mi! Not sure what sauce they put on their sandwiches but I love it! I'm saddened to see that many of the restaurants in downtown Kirkland don't survive after summer time so I'm hoping this little gem is one of the few that does. I wish they would expand their open hours if anything. The restaurant doesn't open till noon on Sundays and most people have picked up their lunches by then. Also, keeping their doors open longer when the weather is nice helps foot traffic volume. 8pm is just when people start eating dinner during the summer.

I seriously want everyone to try this place. I can't believe is not as known as Lee's sandwiches in California. This beats them in so many levels...Well not the spring roll level, but the banh mi are so good. I wasn't even hungry but was around the area so I had to get one. You have to try one!!

Yay I'm a fan! Plume delivers great bahn mi sandwiches on soft fresh baguette, with crispy veggies, with little details like fried crispy onions as a surprise. I have tried the chicken several times and it's been consistently good. Plume is a great addition to Kirkland, I hope they expand their menu to add some surprises and figure out a way to stick around. Kirkland needs more quality restaurants!

Definitely one of our favorite places to go in Kirkland! Their banh mis are delicious and the price isn't bad either! We have tried the chicken, bbq pork, beef, and meatball...chicken being my favorite! The bread is baked fresh daily... then warmed slightly before serving. There is just the right amount of meat and veggies, topped off by their amazing plume sauce! If you get the order to go... get the plume sauce on the side and remove the meat/veggies before re-heating bread, works great! We will definitely be back many more times!

Fantastic pork bahn mi! The pork was succulent, the veggies were plentiful and crisp but with that delicious pickled tang, and the baguette was top notch. Unlike some other bahn mi, the meat and veggie servings were bountiful. Their standard sandwiches don't come with jalapenos--be sure to ask for them. However, unlike most other bahn mi, their price tag is a bit higher. Not a $2.95 sandwich by any means.

Delicious and fresh bahn mi sandwiches reasonably priced. Everything is fresh. The bread is perfect. The seating is a bit cheap and flimsy. But the free wifi and the delightfully cheerful and happy to please store manager make up for that.

Finally, good "fast food" in downtown Kirkland. After trying many places for a quick meal on the go, I felt like I would never find a good option in this area. Then came Plume, and the freshness of really good Banh Mi, made by a staff that always has a smile. This isn't the cheapest banh mi, but it's not outrageous. $5-$6 gets you a huge sandwich that for me is two meals. They use really crisp veggies, fried onions that provide an extra oomph of flavor, and really tasty mayo sauce and meat. My favorite is the pork banh mi, but all of them are good.

The first thing that hit me is the rotten smell when I step into the cafe. My taste buds immediately ask me to walk toward the door. But my friend is too polite and orders a ham sandwich and spring roll to go. She later comments that both items were mediocre.

  • Larissa S.

Delicious! FRESH!!!! The bread is baked fresh daily and has subtle flavor to allow for all of the FRESH flavors of the contents of the sandwich to take over. The spring rolls are fresh and yummy ...I haven't tried the Vietnamese coffee, but I'm sure it is out of this world also! That's it! Simple menu, inexpensive, great service, and great location. Please open a cafe in Seattle, stat :) For now though, I will suck it up and pay the toll just to dine @ Plume!

Went there for lunch today, absolutely a great find, thanks to Yelp. Food is great, good service and very cheap. I got a combo - 2 ham rolls and a 8 inch Grilled Chicken Banh Mi for $7 (tax included). The spring role was fresh with ample meat and the sub was flavorful with the right amount of jalapenos. both tasted very good and I am guessing healthy as well. that was a lot of food for $7, I was happy. Now to my complaints - I did a take-out and the spring rolls were wrapped in a plastic wrap. The spring rolls were sticky and the plastic role was kind of annoying to get rid of. And it was breaking the role. I wish they can change the packing to something better and more eco friendly. Second complain - I ordered take-out and two different people came in while I was waiting and placed orders. both got their order's served before I got my take-out. now I don't know if my food had a higher prep time but I think that's unlikely. Or its their policy to serve dine-in customers quicker than take-out and if that's the case, I think that's wrong. That kind of made me feel unwelcomed but for that food and price, they have to really kick me out for me to stop going there again.

3 1/2 stars, its good sandwiches, better than the Subway and Jimmy Johns nearby. I only tried the Chicken Banh Mi, ill have to go back and try some other ones, but the chicken tasted good and filled me up. It worth to give it a try.

Stumbled onto this place on a Sunday walk and always wanting to find a good Vietnamese sandwich. I tried the chicken Banh Mi and it was yummy! Great price for an 8 " sandwich and fresh flavors. Not a lot of seating ( I think many tables were folded up as there was lots of room) but it was a nice day so we took it to go and ate on the waterfront. I will definitely go there again.

New to the Kirkland area and craved some Bahn Mi! Thanks to the reviews on Yelp, I was able to find Plume easily in downtown Kirkland and secured a free 30 min parking spot nearby. I came around 1:30pm, just towards the end of their lunch crowd. Only 3 other people in there with me. I loved how clean and open the restaurant was. It's a walk up and order type of place. Simple menu with large font that made ordering easy. Decent prices. They made the sandwich on the spot! I took two grilled pork sandwiches and fresh spring rolls home. We devoured the sandwich! The bread that the perfect consistency of soft and crunchy and flavorful and it didn't fall apart when you bit into the sandwich. The sandwich was delicious! I can't wait to go back and get more!

  • Mike W.

Compared to the banh mi shops on 12th and Jackson, this place is upscale. It's still inexpensive though, and actually, paying an extra $2 makes you stop wondering what kind of mystery meat you're eating that made the sandwich so cheap. I've had better banh mi before (outside of Seattle) but this place is well above average.

I have been there many times and always enjoy it. I have tried the pork, chicken and beef sandwich and I have to say I enjoy the beef the most. Our 2 young children also always enjoy it and get one 8' sandwich and they cut it in half for us.

Great place! Tasty sandwiches at totally reasonable prices. Good Vietnamese iced coffee. Nice staff. And you won't get lost in a huge menu - just pick spring roll or sandwich and type of meat. Takes a good few minutes to get your food but if that's what it takes to get my sandwich perfect, I don't mind. A nice change from the pricier places in the area.
