My boyfriend and I finally decided to try this place out since we live just down the road and we're SO glad we did! We showed up an hour before closing after a stressful day at work and at most restaurants, showing up a bit late USUALLY means shotty service but that was not the case here. The staff is extremely friendly and the food was brought out pretty quick after ordering. The food itself was delicious! I'm also so glad they have chicken tamales on their menu (my absolute favorite) and their salsa has a great, authentic taste. We both had the deluxe enchilada as our main course and the meat was seasoned just right and the beans & cheese were pretty tasty as well. I love my food spicy so the ONLY critique I have is that I'd love for the meat to be a bit spicier but that's what salsa or hot sauce is for :) (I know not EVERYONE loves spicy food). I had a tequila sunrise which was fairly strong like I prefer. One thing that was very notable was something that actually happened at another table. A family arrived a half hour before closing and when their meals were brought out the mother decided that her husband's meal looked tastier than what she ordered...after fumbling over her words a bit she requested they make her THAT meal. I was in a bit of shock that someone would show up 30mins before closing with a large table of people, order a meal after reviewing the entire menu, then when HER order is brought out she decides she wants what someone else got... The server was extremely kind and accommodating and told her he would make the other meal for her and that it was not a problem. I truly hope they tipped him well for the trouble. LONG story short, we found a new staple in our area and I recommend you try this place if you're thinking about it. It is a bit spendy, but the courteous staff and great food makes it worth while.

Mole sauce was AMAZIN but that's it. Service - slow Employees- not the friendliest Food- so so I'll come back because I live in the area but probably will be out of desperation or if I ever crave the mole.

Huevos con chorizo was excellent. Not overly greasy, good flavor. Wife had deluxe tostada. Chicken was tasty! Service was prime and atmosphere is clean and enjoyable.

Food was good, very typical Azteca like food. Smothered in cheese. They got my dish worng, which is always a bummer to have to watch your family eat while you wait. We were in right as the dinner crew was coming on and felt kind of pushed to get out.

Plaza Garcia is located in kind of a random location off Jaunita Drive. My fiance and I drove past a few times and I had to try it. They have awesome customer service! Mexican food is my favorite food and it turns out Plaza Garcia is the BEST Mexican food I've had on the east side and Seattle area! I normally order the Arroz Con Pollo which, this is the best I've ever had! My fiance gets the Carne Asada and it's always been great. The margaritas are good and the chips and salsa are great to boot!

Let me put it simply for you: they put 2 cherries in the Shirley Temples. Enough said. Oh you're still reading. Well this place has the best Mexican food I've ever had in a restaurant. They are super friendly, refill soft drinks, and substitute when requested. The chips and salsa are made there (I'm pretty sure) and are delicious. The atmosphere is cozy without being cheap and they have a beautiful mural on the back wall. Everyone should go here!

Every time I saw a review or check-in here, I'd curse a little under my breath that I had yet again forgotten about this little place tucked on the back side of Finn Hill down Juanita drive. No more! With two recent visits under my belt, now I'll only be cursing about more important things! In those visits, one with Nina for a good day just the two of us for thrift shops and lunch, and one when a manager took me out to lunch for winning an epic battle against Seattle Public Utilities that saved her HOA $3000, service was absolutely fantastic. So friendly, accommodating, quick with chips, salsa, drinks and refills and never rushing us through anything. I'm not even going to say the word you're already thinking.. I'm afraid Kristen would beat me up. I think if you've ever read anything else I've ever reviewed in the history of ever, you know what I mean and my thoughts on that already. You're 2500+ miles north of that. Between my boozing yelper lady and a "I won't tell if you don't tell' agreement with boss lady, I've made my way through most of the margarita/cocktail menu. Appropriately strong, nicely made, well-sized and pretty dam tasty sums up that portion of the menu up well. Chips served warm. Two kind of salsa. Endless refills until you beg them to stop. I've had carne asada and the Tres Amigos thus far. Huge plates of well-prepared, spicy, tasty food. Huge to me, anyway. I'm hard pressed to finish them and leave just stuffed. The carne asada and the Chile relleno part of the amigo is my favorite of what I've sampled so far. The menu is really large and varied, with all the expected from appetizers on through desserts so your bound to find something you like and plenty of their specials. $1 tacos on Monday and Tuesday. Daily happy hour 2-6 Catering available. Parking is tight and a bit funky, and they aren't located in a hot spot area. You really need to know the hill or be directed here to find them. I'll be back!

This place was great. I've passed by it a few times driving from Edmonds to Kirkland or vice versa, and I never thought it seemed like that great of a place. I was so wrong. The service was great and the food was fantastic. I finally ended up coming in after spending the entire day in a car with the work wife driving around to nowhere in particular. It was a great day. I had the pollo a la crema. Very large plate of food with warm tortillas. Very large, delicious plate of food. Overall, friendly staff, great food, reasonably priced. I would definitely go back.

Ordered take-out and was fairly disappointed. Very Americanized food - tons of cheese. I ordered a Deluxe Enchilada which is your choice of beef, chicken, or beans with green peppers and onions. I ordered the beans with green peppers and onions. The guy on the phone was very confused, like he had never heard of it. Asked me, "So, you just want beans and cheese?" I said, "Well, it comes with peppers and onions too, right?" What I got was a bean enchilada with very few RAW pepper and onion slices on top of it. My boyfriend ordered some chicken tacos and was also unimpressed. Took one bite of the rice and didn't want anymore of it.

This place was jumping when I came by for some tasty spicy food in my life. I stopped by about an hour before closing time (even though I hate doing that to restaurants) and it was packed... so parking was a little rough. I may or may not have parked questionably. The restaurant is much larger inside than it appears and I was quickly seated by a cheerful employee (which was a little unsettling due to how busy they were... why are you still so happy?!). Minutes later I had chips, salsa and water. The chips and salsa were your standard fair but the chips were fresh and warm which is not always the case at a Mexican joint. I was having a hard time deciding between two dishes so my server made a recommendation based on what I was considering. I ordered a chicken tamale to mangle with my teeth machine while I waited for the main course. Often times I find tamales have waaaaaaay too much breading and not enough filling. This was a delicious example of the contrary. There was a good amount of seasoned chicken inside and the breading was the right amount of firm without being overly dry. It and the sauce it came with were excellent. I could come back and just get a few of these and be pretty content. There were a few bussers and servers working and they worked as a team with most of the tables to make sure orders were brought out, more chips or salsa when needed or water and beverages were never low. I may have drank a gallon of water while I was here only because my cup was always full. My main dish was the arroz con pollo and it was rad! It was seasoned well and I felt like it was the right balance of chicken to veggies (as we all know I'm not a big fan of things that grow in the ground). The sauce and seasoning were super good and the onions/peppers were cooked well so they were just slightly crisp but not over done or burnt so I actually ate a good portion of them. All in all I was happy with Plaza Garcia. It is a little bit out of the way for me so it won't be a place I frequent often but if I'm in the area I'll definitely come by again. Besides, who doesn't want to support a local business? I'm a big fan!

If your feeling Mexican with the family this place is a good one to consider. The food is very good and not very pricey.

Unfortunately to say, this visit was awful. It was lunch time, and only one other group was in there with us. The food was not good and the waiter only checked on us like once, the whole time we were there. And the group that was already in there when we walked in was talking so loudly I'm guessing they wanted people outside to hear them. For the quality food that I have had here before I was not impressed :(

Great food and new menu items are tasty. Favorite thing: side torts are made in-house. It might seem trivial, but it's not and shows attention to detail. Oh, and the service could not be better. Small place that is worthy of your hard earned dollar.

I'm not happy to report that service has plummeted at this restaurant. Their food is great. That is why I was a lifelong customer coming in for lunch sometimes dinner until Saturday night when the hostess at about 6:20 pm sat two other parties before us. We were standing and waiting for awhile. Another customer even brought it up to her while she was seating his party that we were there before he and his party were. I brought it up with the manager so that he's aware of it. I support small businesses but this one I am unable to support due to the hostess' total lack of courtesy. The manager was apologetic but there is nothing that will bring me back to dine there again. It set the tone for the dining experience as in being ignored and overlooked so I left without being seated or eating. If you like great Mexican food and are willing to have the hostess ignore you while you stand there for 15+ minutes then seats other parties before you who just entered the door... This is the place to be. If not... Go elsewhere and dine where your hard-earned money and time are appreciated. Treat every paying customer equally and fairly or else they will not come back. I will not be back. Really disappointing. It was that bad.

Great service from everyone at Plaza. Have been eating here for about 15 years and can't recall being disappointed. Carlos and Jesus have been here a long time and treat our family like their own every time we come in. Love the chile Colorado and crisp tacos with ground beef.

As a Kirkland resident, I couldn't be happier to stumble upon this place. Its a smaller restaurant and during peak times, parking can be a big tricky. That being said, it is well worth the trip. Each time I go, I make a point to try a new dish and I have yet to be disappointed. Great food, great drinks, and great services.

My friend and I stopped by here for dinner recently. The small parking lot fills up early, but we were able to find some spots next door. We were sat quickly and our drink orders taken right away. I decided on the 2 enchilada plate with red & green sauce and my friend got the shrimp crema plate. The food was pretty tasty, a little on the cheesy side, but still good. The rice and beans were good, too. The prices are pretty decent, as well. I'd definitely stop by again for dinner.

We usually go into the bar to eat where Francisco and his team are the best. We are always welcomed with a handshake and a warm smile. The best chips and salsa in town are delivered within a minute of sitting down and no matter what you order, it is fast, fresh, and hot.

Went here for our first time the other night. Wanted some tasty Mexican and this seemed to have good reviews. The service was good however for the price I think the quality isn't all that great. I had a combo enchilada and a burrito. Both seemed to look exactly the same and the enchilada sauce tasted like it was out of a can. Not bad tasting, not great either. Want rice and beans? thats extra. Really? Overall for the price I'd rather head downtown to Cactus where the prices are similar and the quality and prep of the food is much better. Still a decent place but I feel for what u get the prices are too high.

Plaza Garcia is typical Washington State Mexican. That means too much melted cheese on everything and a particular flavor that is not like TexMex or the New Mexico or California versions. That said, this restaurant is one of the best purveyors of the Washington style. I've only been there for lunch, usually in early to mid-afternoon. Service is excellent and prompt. They have draft XX. I get a custom combination: chile relleno, beef enchilada, and tamale, which comes with beans, rice and a pinch of salad. This combo isn't on the menu, but they don't charge me any extra for making up my own. Two kinds of salsa, warm chips, and no rush to get done. This is a place where I tend to eat alone, and I appreciate their consideration as a solo diner, letting me hog a full booth and take my time.

A couple years now of being a regular here and we are still loving it! The food, the service, the people that work there... all make the experience great. The only con we've ever come across is how busy the parking lot can get. I can work around that. Reading through many of the reviews today and see a pattern.. many people are disappointed by this place not being authentic Mexican food. The food that this restaurant puts out is what Americans want. Have you ever been to Mexico? The food is nothing like what we eat here. It's better! Yet it's not what a typical American wants. They want cheese and lot's of it. So... go here because you want the standard Americanized Mexican food smothered in cheese and sauce and all sorts of bs. It's delicious. If you want authentic Mexican food, search Yelp.. they are out there... :) Edited 02/03/2012 - I take that back... I have tried a couple dishes that were truly Mexican minus the American flare... so quit complaining and try a few new things!!!! The MOLE is to die for!

This is very decent, and maybe even a little better, Mexican food. My family has been going for years for any family dinners and it's never done me wrong. It's not incredible, but it's definitely very good. I always order a combination thing like an enchilada, a taco, and a tostada which comes to rice and beans. And I'm a guac girl, so I always get a side of that. Their guac is okay, nothing special but good enough for me. The staff is crazy friendly, the portion sizes are pretty huge, and the food comes out pretty fast, especially considering the amount of volume that place brings in. It is the Mexican restaurant to go to if you're in the Kirkland area. The salsa they give you while you're waiting is good, but not great, and I think I only think it's good because I'm so hungry walking in, I'd eat just about anything.

Family business and friendly employees. They are consistent with the taste and quality of the food. You must try them:) Their chips are always warm and fresh.

Super family friendly, awesome staff and reasonable prices. They no longer offer prime discount - knocking down a star but still in our regular rotation.

Came back and gave this place a second chance (well really I needed to use my Groupon) and I must say, the service and food have muy improved at Plaza Garcia. I still wish their chips and salsa were a bit better, but the rest of the food we had was great authentic Mexican food. Carne Asada, Camarones Diablo were muy excellente and the Taquitos should not be missed.

Yo this place hooks it up fat. As soon as I was seated...bam! There's already food on the table. Complimentary chips with salsa and pico de gallo. I also have to mention the homey vibe. It's family owned and operated, and everyone working there had a welcoming aura, as does the entire restaurant with its decorations and and overall atmosphere. My meal was top notch quality, and everything is housemade. I've been looking for a go-to Mexican spot to go to since I moved to the area in November, and I think I found it. Highly recommended.

Meh. I went to this place hoping it was truly authentic Mexican fare. Ever since my trip to Southern Cali and Mexico, I can't eat at the American-Mexican fusion places like Azteca and Las Margaritas. Rest assured that this place is just like the others.. *sigh*... It's cheese-smothered and generic. It's not even that great, either. Okay, the beans and the rice are some of the best I've tasted. The taco tasted like Taco Bell tacos - what gives? The tamale was ruined - the corn was super dry and not flavorful at all. The pork enchilada had dry pork that didn't taste all that amazing. Service was good, however.. and I really want to try their flan, but I ran out of room. I have leftovers and I'll eat them, but I probably won't go back here.

I went to this kind of out of the way Mexican restaurant because my bro and sis-in-law said they make really great homemade tortillas. We found out you have to ask for them specifically otherwise you get the store bought ones. Good to know. And yes they are delicious! That I think is the best part about this place. I got the carne asada which was pretty pricey and not that great, it wasn't a large piece of meat as I am used to but cut up pieces, hmmmm. It's like they ran out or something and gave me what they had left. It had ok flavor though. I really enjoyed the chips and salsa as well. Seemed pretty clean, and it was quick service as is pretty standard at Mexican places.

  • Anna G.

This is a good little family own Mexican restaurant. My only dis-like is some times it feels like they are rushing you out the door. Also the quality of the good changes depending on who's good at the time, never consistent.

  • Nicole H.

Maybe not AS good as it gets, but pretty close! This is the best, most authentic Mexican food I've had since a string of perfect strip mall places in Phoenix. The chips and salsa are fantastic. I LOVE the rice. I've also had a bean and rice burrito and vegetarian fajitas which have both been really good. Service is pretty good. The only complaint is that they don't give you enough tortillas with fajitas. Highly recommend!

  • Sally R.

The best part about this restaurant for us is that it is so kid friendly. The staff always remember my son by name and make sure he is always entertained with crayons, etc. That lets me relax and gives me the chance to eat! I love the food, too. It's a great family feel.

  • Candice B.

It's very hard to find great Mexican food in the PNW. I'm a SoCal girl. You can find it there on any corner. So far, this has to be the most decent I've found. Portions are average. You're not swimming in soupy beans and rice. Margaritas are pretty good. Salsa isn't very good. Tastes more like spaghetti sauce. I'm glad my grandmother was from Mexico and showed me how to properly make the food or else I'd be a sad girl.

  • Lynette W.

I was not impressed with the food. The chips seemed over cooked and the pico de gallo wasn't anything to write about. Salsa was OK. Drew and I had standard fair, not too complicated, but weren't impressed. I didn't check my bill too make sure I was charged, but the menu said it would be $0.95 and I had like a small spoonful. I don't mind paying, but expect a decent amount for a dollar (including tax). I really was turned off by the beans, they just had a weird taste. I had only a bit of my burrito & half of my enchilada at the restaurant but didn't feel the need to get leftovers out of the fridge for another meal, I think Drew eventually made his way through most of the leftovers. I see some reviews talking about what do you expect from Americanized Mexican food. We happen to have a special place in our hearts for authentic & Americanized Mexican and we were not happy here. The waiters were nice though and we enjoyed the hard candy options we were given at the end of the night (yummy Werther's). Best thing about it: stiff drinks. Yippee. Water was pretty good too and you have to love the hanging baskets with fake flowers outside.

I've had some mixed experiences here but it's local and most if the time the servers are super friendly. The place is pretty small and the call ahead seating is hit and miss. The portions are pretty big.

Awesome! Been going there since I was little, still haven't stopped, and hopefully never will. Great service and food

I have been coming to this local restaurant since it opened. The food is good and especially the chips are thin and crispy. They also give you picadilo as well as salsa for your chips. my favorite dish is Carlos Salad. I joined their rewards program so far have received two free entree's! They know us when we come in and are very friendly.

  • Mary J.

Our family loves Plaza Garcia and have been going there since it first opened. The staff is wonderful, and the food is fantastic. (I love the Carne Asada,Chicken Mole, and Pollo al la Crema). My husband sometimes has the waiter or chef surprise him with their choice of dinner and has never been disappointed. The homemade tortillas are an excellent addition! When we tell our boys we are going out for dinner, 99% of the time the reply will be: "Can we go to Plaza???"

  • David E.

Fantastic service, reasonable prices and uncomplicated, enjoyable food (not the very best I've had, but good in a pinch.) Sometimes I wish the menu offered a bit more variety -- there are plenty of options but many of them blur together, to be honest. Anyway, we really enjoy eating here and are always pleased by how friendly and courteous the staff are. We've been coming for five years (not too many decent options nearby where we live) and I fully expect we'll be going for the next five. Recommendation: the fajitas are a great option; just as good as at any restaurant 3x as expensive.

Went for fajitas. Going back for more fajitas. (And chips, and cheese, and fried ice cream! I love this place!!)

This is exactly the generic american-mexican family eatery. Lots of cheese and large portions and re-fried beans, with friendly service. I was slightly disappointed in my choices, but it was my own fault. I ordered stuff that is great at places with more of a MEXICAN influence, rather than for generic american palettes. My friends who got blended flavored margaritas enjoyed them...this place does a decent Slurpee with tequila, basically. But I ordered lime on the rocks...and it was pretty yucky. A very generic pre-made bottled margarita mix with some tequila. Oh well. I also made the mistake of ordering mole sauce....I am ADDICTED to this stuff...and I recognize that it's a term with a wide variety of flavors. Still, I expect some heat, complex flavors, and a hint of chocolate. This was a super-sweet peanut-butter sauce. Blergh! It was edible, but not what my mouth had wanted. That being said, the enchiladas that my friend ordered were very cheesy and tasty. And the nachos were good, too. Just don't stray outside the americanized-mexican food, and this place will treat you just fine. Final note: the women's restroom is wild. The craziest bright Lime Sherbert Green walls, with one of those clay tile sunshine faces, only this one is holding his nose (presumably because you're on the toilet). An unexpected bit of crazy/whimsy.

DELICIOUS food in a cute family sort of place. Not the best parking, but if there aren't a lot of people it's not bad. The service is great and the chips and salsa are house made. I used to recommend this place as a really cheap and better tasting alternative to Azteca, sadly the prices have gone up and can't really be called cheap anymore. I still visit here every so often when I want good Mexican food, but it's a long drive for me and the prices aren't really worth it. However, if you're in the area definitely give it a try sometime as they have great food and great staff.

  • Rick A.

The best Mexican I've had. Some how the rice and beans just taste better. My usual take-out is 3 enchiladas, either chicken or beef. When dining in, I like the grilled Tilapia, comes with plenty of vegetables. Plan on a wait if getting there on a Friday or Saturday night.

  • Kim S.

This is my very favorite Mexican restaurant. Super friendly, very family-oriented, and the staff is so great! They have excellent margaritas, too!

  • Melissa G.

This isn't fancy mexican but they are consistently good, the staff is friendly, food is served promptly and it's a great casual restaurant in the area. We really enjoy their shredded beef over the chicken or ground beef and they will allow you to upgrade to shredded beef on almost any item. The guacamole is a little bleh but everything else has been pretty good for your standard mexican fare. Fantastic for a fun, casual night when one doesn't feel like cooking and is craving a cold margarita. We are definitely fans and highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area!

  • Tim H.

Preface: we moved here from Arizona. We understand good mexican food, "american" mexican food and the in-between. Anyone who thinks Qdoba or Chipotle is Mexican food should be required to try a street taco in Mexico City or Rocky Point...please that stuff is americanized crap. Anyhow, on to my point. We heard about Plaza Garcia from a friend. It isn't too far from home. I got the Al Pastor taco plate the first time and loved it. I got it the second time too. This place is pretty good and as close to authentic for this style of Mexican food we've seen here so far (Tacos El Guerro is pretty authentic). All the staff has been friendly to us and their free chips/salsa is great! The parking for this place SUCKS. Period. No other way to describe it. If the lot is full, you're likely to move on...but get there a bit early and you'll be okay. We've been here a few times now and will come back. Good stuff.

We ate here for the first time tonight and were pleasantly surprised by the food. The service was terrific and the food was above average. Portion sizes are huge! We liked this place a lot and it would have received a higher rating if the place was clean. I don't know how restaurant owners can let a place get that dirty and I've driven by the place many times and wouldn't go in for that reason. I have a rule I try and follow and that is if they can't keep the front door clean, you can bet the kitchen isn't so clean either. We ignored all that and had a decent meal. It's not going to make it to the top of our list because of that one element, cleanliness.

Super friendly staff. This place fills up quick. Really good fajitas.

Clean, very friendly restaurant with great food. Have never been disappointed eating there. The service is always exceptionally friendly & fast. Their new web site plazagarcia.com offers more info and convenience of online ordering (for takeout or delivery). Definitely recommend it for anyone in the area. Parking there is somewhat limited, but takeout/delivery is always an option (via takeout-online.com ).

Mmmmmmm...best service, best family owned, great tasting and awesome margaritas. Always accommodating and they know you by name! Try carne asada tacos, bean dip, cheese crispy.......it's all great!!

The Plaza is our default restaurant for family milestones including birthdays, etc. We've been coming here since we moved to Holmes Point in 2005 and have yet to have a bad experience. The service is always good or better. All of the waiters recognize us and remember stuff about us. The chips are great and our favorite is the carne asada. Having it right up the street makes it an easy choice.

  • Megan M.

I'm not really one to complain, but this place was ridiculous. I ordered cheese mole enchiladas...not exactly the most extravagant menu item, and got what might be comparable to a tortilla filled with semi-melted cheese and slathered in Jiffy peanut butter, with rice that may have been sitting under the heater for the last week. To make things worse, my friend ordered steak fajitas with NO sour cream (he can't stand the stuff.)....and what came out was chunks of dry, rubbery meat covered with a nice large dollop of sour cream! After we left we decided we probably would have been better off eating at Taco Bell. Needless to say, I would NOT recommend eating here.

okay so I just joined Yelp, and this review is from an experience at least 4 months ago. My fiance and I went late, maybe that's why it wasn't the best, but he ordered the chicken mole', and it was horrible. He likened it to a can of Jiff peanut butter on chicken, disgusting. My dish wasn't great either, but his was really really bad. We also had to wait on chips and salsa, but like I said it was late, only a few other tables still had occupants. I've had real mole' before, and it's not my favorite dish it's pretty hard to make it right, but I still cringe when we drive past this place. We will never go back, sorry.

My mom and I discovered this place one day and now it is our go to place whenever we decide to go out to dinner in her city. I have had several things here but by far the best is their chicken fajitas. Perfectly season with lots of veggies and slightly crisp onions on the bottom (I love that flavor)...they come out sizzling and delicious. Family owned and fantastic staff. They are all so happy and welcoming. Parking is limited but well worth it.

So you walk in and it looks colorful and tiled, y'know? And you see basically the same things on the menu that you would see at any TexMex place, but dude, when it comes.... you're like... WOW! They do all the same things, but better! The carne asada - super good! The chicken quesidilla - super good! Seriously, their fajita meat has clearly been marinating for a long time in delicious spices and they make their margaritas with real fruit (like mangos!) and of course their tortillas are hand-made and totally delicious. Food is great - Service is very friendly, but not intrusively y'know? And the service is FAST, too! I did not expect our food to come out that fast and drinks etc were all faster than expected. This was a very good mexican food experience for me and I'd almost given up on finding good mexican food in Washington. Try this place - I bet you'll leave happy.

I have been to this place more than 20 times and it is definitely safe to say that this is by far the best Mexican place I have ever been to. Get the nachos!!! Their awesome!!!!!

Great neighborhood Mexican restaraunt. The service is so good it is like you are walking in to someones house and they are taking care of you. The two salsa's with chips that are served right away can't be beat and are super fresh. We've tried fajitas, chilupa, rellenos, enchiladas, chimichanga, and all are good. The Sangria is also really good here. Prices are great. If you live anywhere on the east side and like Mexican food, you need to go here. There is another one that opened in Woodinville, but we are fortuntate to live up the hill from the Kirkland one.

Meh. One of those places. We went to Plaza Garcia for a family dinner, when no one felt like cooking when I was visiting :). We chose it because apparently my sister goes all the time, and it's a favorite of the local middle and high schoolers? Regardless, the restaurant itself sits in a pretty small parking lot right next to a gas station, so the parking was a little iffy. I'd definitely look for parking elsewhere if you have a nice car, as I definitely saw some close calls. The service, from the moment you walk in, is impeccable. The waiter apparently remembers everyone who's ever visited before, as he started rattling names like nobody's business. They were also attentive throughout the entire meal, actively refilling water. The food is the reason I'm only giving it three stars. The menu selection is pretty broad, and they have some mouthwatering descriptions. However, for the prices they charge, the food is neither particularly large in portion nor particularly savory in taste. Don't get me wrong, it's still good when hungry, but not enough to justify the price. We got a range of items, from chimichangas to a fajitas platter, and for like a $15 plate of fajitas, I left a tad hungry still. The food definitely came out quickly, and you could embellish it at will with habanero or jalapeno sauce, but the base just isn't the same if it's cooked blandly. If your palate isn't too discerning, and you don't eat a quarter of a cow at a time like I do, you'll probably like this place.

I love Plaza Garcia for their friendly service and quick food! However, for a family run place I swear they get the guacamole out of one of those plastic pouches! SICK. I do love their Chicken Polla Crema... comfort food!! The Picco is great. The chips are great and always hot. I just wish they would be a little more authentic... and a little cheaper. its a bit over-priced. I would chose it over Azteca anyday though.

Plaza Garcia is well worth a visit. Excellent and very authentic Mexican food with great presentation and a great atmosphere to match. If your lucky you can catch a live band, consisting of an older gentleman, his casio and a mic belting out great tunes. The huevos are the best I have had and the drinks are always more than stout. The waitstaff is as friendly and attentive as you will ever see with everyone, even the cooks greeting you. If your in the mood for an ice cold Negro Modelo and a cooked to perfection plate of eggs and sausage, stop at the Plaza. Just for the record, Mexican food comes in two categories for me, sit down and taco truck. Plaza tops my list for sit down style Mexican, if you want ultra authentic Lengua tacos, then find a truck. You cannot compare sit down and taco truck in my book, two different types of Mexican food all together.

My family has been going to Plaza Garcia for 6 years, and the reason we always make the extra 5 minute drive to Plaza instead of the other two similar Mexican restaurants next to our house is for the awesome service. Everyone is very welcoming and courteous, and we always get recognized by someone in the staff with a big friendly "Hola Amigos!". The food is just a little bit better than other Americanized Mexican restaurants in the area, like Las Margaritas, but honestly, don't they all kind of taste the same? If you want a higher tier of Mexican food, go to Cactus or Melagro in downtown Kirkland, because you won't get it here. Otherwise, go to Plaza for a fairly average, but still fulfilling and tasty, meal with a smile-filled, hospitable family environment.

I have been here a few times and it's usually excellent. I always get the chicken fajita's (and share them with my mom) and tortilla soup. I went here last night and was definitely less than thrilled with the soup. It was salty and had an interesting flavor and the chicken pieces were awkwardly large for a soup. The fajitas, however, were outstanding as usual. We came here with a restaurant.com gift certificate and they had a sign up that they were no longer accepting them, however they did take ours and told us not to buy anymore. You also get complimentary chips and salsa and the have a cabbage salsa that is outstanding (and I always ask for extra!). All around, a fun restaurant for the whole family.

Very disappointing! Our fajitas were burnt- crusty burnt- from being tribes cooked and the chicken tostada was mostly iceberg lettuce. We were hoping this would be our new Mexican place close to home- never again

Addictive food. Good lunch specials. Personally, I like their Tacos Garcia. I think the potato adds a nice touch (chose it on a whim and got hooked). But everything I have seen from there has looked and smelled great. I must admit, seeing guava margaritas on the board was tempting...

Service is ok - food is blah. There has to be better mexican food out there. I'm fairly new to the PNW - perhaps this is as good as it gets? I hope not. I'll keep searching...

A regular here; coming from Hawaii, never really had a great Mexican food experience, Plaza Garcia blew me away. The staff is always welcoming and make me feel special. A former employee used to make me a special concoction of a margarita he called the Alex Special, and after he left, they called him up one day to get the recipe just for me. There isn't a thing in the menu that i wouldn't order. My favorite is the carne asada. Not sure what they do, but the seasoning is addictive.

We've been coming to this neighborhood Mexican Restaurant for as long as it has been open. The service is always consistently good and very friendly. The owner, David, normally stops by our table for quick conversation but with multiple locations he seems to be there less and less. The servers always remember us and are competent, quick and non-intrusive. On our most recent trip my wife and I shared the Garcia Fajitas. They were adequate and filling but were simply that. Adequate. They really need to add a bit of zing to the food. Perhaps the palate of the neighbood dictates less spicy, but we would certainly like our plates with a bit more flavor to them. We'll give them another chance for sure, maybe it was just an off night.

My first experience at this restaurant was okay. As mentioned by many other reviewers, service is excellent; servers occasionally ask how you're doing and if you need anything. They're fast and friendly. Food was mediocre, on the bland side. I appreciate how the food wasn't too salty, but I think there could've been more spice to the dishes we got (I had a chimichanga plate that comes with refried beans and rice). That being said, this must be a popular hang-out location for families; it was crowded when I arrived around dinnertime. There are two Plaza Garcia locations---- one here (juanita dr) and another in Woodinville.

Well, I have never written a review before but, honestly, this was the worst Mexican food we have ever had. Taco Bell is gourmet by comparison. We went to Plaza Garcia in Kirkland because we like to try new restaurants with Groupon. The reviews for the Woodinville location were so bad that we decided to go out of our way to Juanita. The parking is very limited and we ended up parking up the hill a good distance away. Parking did not enter into our rating, I only mention it for those who might find it difficult. My wife and I both ordered arroz con pollo one of our favorite dishes which we came to love at the original Las Margaritas on Rose Hill which grew into a chain and later sold out and closed most locations. The dish served at Plaza Garcia bears no relation. My wife ordered hers without onions and when it came it was covered in multi colored sliced peppers. My dish was covered in a mat of solid thinly sliced green peppers. It looked so different, and frankly, unappetizing that I asked if it was the same dish and received an answer that made no sense. But both dishes were equally flavorless, tasteless and insipid. I can only assume by the other ratings for this place that their other dishes are far different. The other issue we had concerned the groupon. We presented it when we arrived and our waiter took it. When our bill was to be prepared we reminded him and he told us what our total was going to be allowing for the groupon. But when my wife gave him our credit card the bill came back without the groupon credit. Had we not checked we would have been over charged. I want to think this was not intentional but have doubts. My wife tipped our usual 20% on the total amount. I would not have been so generous. Needless to say we will not be returning. Al Davvis, Carnation

I love fish tacos. Whenever I visit a new Mexican restaurant, I always order the fish tacos as my first meal. Sad to say it, but this restaurant's fish taco has got to be the worst I have ever eaten. It was so salty, after a few bites, I had finished my whole glass of water. To quote a certain someone: "That's the saltiest thing I've ever tasted! And I once ate a big heaping bowl of salt!"

Okay this place is the place to go for real authentic Mexican food. i tried this place out because i heared it was good from all my friends on Facebook and Twitter. I know my friends and they are right about food. Plaza Garcia was crowded when i went there on a Sat. Night and i guess they are on the weekends. the wait was 1-2 minutes so right there i was impressed. The food was remarkable and delicious with great flavor and an amazing presentation. i yet still have to go to the one in Woodinville with the tortilla lady making fresh tortillas every day to complement with the meal. Overall food, service, atmosphere, and experiance were a top notch. Good location due to the busy roads its parked on and also the parks that surround the place make it get a lot of bushiness. Though i live 2 min away from La Corona ill make the extra 5 - 10 minute commute to eat better Mexican food. New favorite Mexican food spot. Also try the desert like soupapilla, churros, and Deep Fried Ice Cream... SO GOOD!! Plaza Garcia is the place to and i know it because it took me one visit to get the overall great experiance through food, service, and atomospehere.. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT

Used to be one of my favorite Mexican restaurants on the east side. Like a couple of the other reviewers, the two kinds of home made salsa are a hit! The staff is friendly, the food is good, what more could you want in Mexican restaurants! Several other restaurants have tried this location over the years, a pizza place and can't remember the others, None survived for more than a couple of years until Plaza Garcia came along. In spite of the lousy parking, they have stayed. If you want to eat on Friday or Saturday nights, you better get there early, I haven't tried those nights but when I go by they always look terribly crowded.

Good environment and good price. This restaurant has a nice Mexican food offer and the best is the service. The staff is very friendly and the Salsa are the best specially a modified version of the Pico de Gallo salsa.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed Plaza Garcia. It is situated in a small strip of shops and looks a little sketchy from the outside. The service was fantastic. We were seated right away and the host had menus in his hands for us before we even walked in the door. The food was tasty mexican fare. The chalupa, quesadilla, and salads were all enjoyed at our table. The margaritas were soooo strong, which ranks them highly in my books. Definitely worth a trip: Great Service, Good Food, Strong Drinks.

Well being from California I guess I consider myself spoiled. Im trying to catch what the whole buzz is about this place because I dont see it. The service was very nice which is why they get 3 instead of 2 stars. The food tho wads mediocre at best. Maybe 15 years ago when I was younger and had no clue about my taste buds I would have rated 4 stars.

My husband is from Texas and this is his and our entire extended families favorite local Mexican spot. Food is consistently good, it's family owned and run; the wait staff is friendly and fast. Gets really full many nights a week and parking can be a concern, but that's because it's so good! Faves are Carlos salad, small pork enchilada with rice and whole beans, and machacas (eggs and shredded beef).

The California transplant I fell in love with needs his Mexican food fix now and then. Tonight we went up to Finn Hill - he had been here before and remembered it being good. The chips and homemade salsa were wonderful and I filled up way too fast on them... of course. We both did beef enchiladas, mine with shredded beef and his with ground beef. I have to say... just alright. The beans tasted like the can, and the cheese didn't add much flavor. The rice was tasty, however, and good spanish rice can win me over. The service was really friendly, so I was a little surprised when, after waiting quite a while for our food, our server stopped by and mentioned that he "totally forgot to put our order in". Ooooook. But a couple minutes later, it came out nice and hot. Not the best, but I'd definitely go back. My sweetie says the Carne Asada is really good, but of course he didn't mention that till we were finished eating. So I'll try that next time, or maybe a chicken dish, since that's what I'd usually order. Bonus for being close to home!

When on Fin Hill and you're hankering for some Mexican food, Plaza Garcia is really the place to go. You could go off the hill and subject yourself to the substandard stuff they have at other places, or just go to Plaza Garcia. It has a nice staff, great food, and overall nice environment. It is always busy on Friday and Saturday nights for one good reason, they are freaking great. They have a great dinner menu, good desserts, and an okay lunch menu. It is a good place to take clients, friends, family, and who ever else is just around. Man, I want to go tonight...

We visited this restaurant on our continuing search for good Mexican food in the Pacific Northwest. This was a dismal failure. Our first clue that it wouldn't be good hispanic food was that there were no Hispanics in the building. The red sauce tasted like ketchup and the cheese like velveeta. We ordered "hot" spice, and it barely had any flavor at all. Overall, a very disapointing Mexican restaurant. The prices were fine, but Taco Bell is cheaper, and tastes better.

My family LOVES Plaza Garcia. It is our favorite friday night dinner destination. We've been going for years. Granted, Its the same quality of food one might be served at any americanized mexican restaurant, like azteca or anywhere like that. But the service at Plaza is what we love to go back to. The waiters and waitresses are so friendly and nice. When they recognize you, the say hi. They go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need, without coming across as pushy or annoying. plus, you can be in and out within an hour, without feeling rushed. On a friday and saturday night, the place is packed, so make a reservation, or get there on the earlier side of things (5:30 or 6) and we always run into someone we know! love it.

Life is too short to eat bad Mexican food. I once heard in the food business "Location, location, location." And they have that. For us residents of Finn Hill, Champagne Point etc. it is the only show in town. However, it is your typical americanized slop with refried beans, smothered in american cheese and a big fat carb pile circa Azteca 1980s. I hate to be a hater, but just drive down the street. Mezcal Grill in Juanita is better and has cheaper prices, or better yet cruise into Kirkland for some Cactus or best yet Agua Verde. Now that is good Mexican food.

    (1)
  • Paul D.

Friendly staff, quick service, good but typical Mexican food. Parking is horrible as their lot only holds about 10 to 12 cars. The rest have to park on the street or in adjacent lot. Tres Amigos and Tacos De Asada are a good go to for me. My wife likes the Chicken en Mole and the chicken Enchalda Gracia. I would recommend this restaurant but come early to get a parking space.

  • Robby L.

This is a family owned and run Business that not only has the most amazing food but everytime you walk in the door you feel like you just came home to Mom's for a Sunday meal. Their tortilla soup is the best ever. Also, you can make a meal out of the Chips, salsa and Pico. ummmmm

  • Vilna B.

We've been going to Plaza Garcias in Kirkland for years and the food went from being fantastic to OK and back to good. Now they opened up a new Plaza Garcias in Woodinville and it was tremendous. The atmosphere is great, it's more roomy, and no awkward parking lot. Best of all...they still have the freindly family wait staff. Service was great and prices reasonable. Must say the food was better than the Kirkland location. Even hubby agreed. So maybe 3.5 stars for Kirkland and 5 for Woodinville.

  • Brian H.

This is actually very good Mexican food! I went here for the first time this past friday and I am definitely a fan. I had the ground beef burrito and I was pleased with every single bite! The only thing I can think of for improvement would maybe be the chips. I still haven't had chips that top El Toreador in Redmond. Great food though, a little hole in the wall that makes tasty food.

I don't know what the buzz is about. We had dinner there a week ago and everything was very forgetable. What I do remember was a chicken chalupa where they used shredded chicken that wasn't tasty at all. Not going back again.

FAST & DELISH Mexican food. The food here is not greasy & has good flavor. The portions are just right & I can't emphasis the fast & kind service. My Mom tears up their enchilada plate. Great, I'm craving their chicken chimichangas and I just ate. LOL.

  • Tim A.

We like this place. We've had a few hit or miss situations but generally these guys take care of us well and we like the food. It's family-friendly which is fantastic and they do have some fun with birthdays. The prices are on par with Mexican food in the Seattle area (which, by the way, is a little expensive for people who have moved here from cities with big Mexican populations where excellent Mexican can be found for much less). In the context of a suburban casual family Mexican place, these guys are a solid choice especially if you live in the area.

    (4)
  • Pam J.

This is somewhere between a three and a four. It's not "Mexican food doesn't get any better" in my opinion but it's tasty and I know I will go there again even though it was a bit on the greasy side. The portions are easily enough for three meals. It was recommended by a Mexican friend who said "it's good food but it's not really Mexican" and that's pretty much the case. It's clean and the staff are very nice, just like the other reviewers said. The price was right, too.

  • Marjorie M.

The staff is super friendly and go out of their way to make your meal enjoyable. If you are a mole fan, try the enchilada...you will not be disappointed. Delicious margaritas & I hear the sangria is great! Get there early or parking can be a pain....but it will be worth it.

This is by far one of the best Mexican restaurants on the Eastside! The business is family owned, and the staff is super efficient & polite!

  • Jacob B.

Good Mexican food (especially for Seattle). They give you two types of salsa. My favorite is the cabbage one (I think it's cabbage). It's really good! Very fast service and very friendly, too. They've got a big menu and I've always enjoyed the food.

    (4)
  • Kristen W.

Just like every other cookie cutter Mexican restaurant. If you want to eat some cheese and refried beans...this is the place

    (1)
  • Ebru Y.

Mexican food doesn't get any better! This is probably the closest you will get to home cooked Mexican food. Freshly baked tortilla chips and two types of home-made salsa await you as soon as you step inside! Very friendly and attentive staff, the more you eat at this place the more you become like a family with the owners and employees! Service is super fast and the food never lets me down. There is usually live music which spices up the ambience! My favorite here is Taco Al Carbon, try it with a Corona or a Margarita on rocks, and you'll be in heaven!

  • Jean S.

As the Yelp rating for 3 stars says, this place is "A-OK." Agree with other reviewers that one of the best things this place has going for it is the great service. It is a very family friendly restaurant, and the staff was very courteous and always kept an eye on our table. The food is pretty standard fare, and I wouldn't say anything really stood out as being above and beyond. I will say they have a great offering on the kids' menu for "that picky eater kid" in your family - it's called Max's plate, and it comes with flour tortillas, french fries and a small bowl of shredded cheese. Oh, and I also enjoyed my Michelada... refreshing!

I've been going to this restaurant for a very long time and have never had a bad experience. The food and drinks are amazing and Carlos is such a homie!!! My friends and family and I love seeing him every time we eat there. Great environment and a favorite girls night spot.

  • Chelsea A.

Never had a bad experience when I've been here. Good food, I love the salsa. I always get enchiladas because I'm boring and theirs are very good. My boyfriend got a burrito and loved it! Parking is harder because it's a small area, leaving is more difficult. Prices could also be a little better, but overall I enjoy it.

  • Chris O.

Plaza Garcia... is a good restaurant. The pros are great friendly service and good food. The food is definitely Mexican-American (think refried beans by default) but it's decent. The inside of the restaurant is nice too. The cons are, limited parking and high prices. Entrees are in the mid teens and it really adds up fast. If it was 20% cheaper I'd mark it 4 stars. Contrary to what other reviewers have written, there are several better places for Mexican food on the Eastside, such as Oobas (Redmond/Woodinville), El Toreador (Redmond), Matador (Redmond), Cactus (Kirkland).

    (3)
  • Don C.

Been here a couple of times. I don't think I'll be back. The staff seems nice, but the food isn't that great. When you add in the prices it's just not worth it.

  • Jonathan H.

This place is awesome, the owners are extremely nice and they actually remember who you are! Which is awesome in my opinion not to mention the great margaritas poured the way they should be (not filled with sour mix) and their food is phenomenal! If you're in Kirkland this is the place to go for Mexican food :)

    (5)
  • David W.

Service is mostly pleasant, but can be slow. Not the tastiest Mexican food in the area, but passable. Chips and salsa service are standard, of course, but they also include a chopped mix of cabbage, tomatoes, onions, etc. which is nice but a bit dry.

    (3)
  • Z M.

Plaza Garcia is wonderful. I've been going there sense the first day they opened over 10 years ago. The customer service is terrific, and the food is wonderful. There salsa and pico is my favorite out of all the Mexican restaurants around the area. There lunch special is great and I highly recommend the enchiladas rancheros! Oh, and there margaritas are delicious. Just kind of a bummer they don't have a happy hour.

  • Tiffany S.

Out of the way and pretty authentic. Came in for lunch and there was no wait. They have a great lunch menu. I got the pollo a la crema. Very attentive staff and the food was excellent. Chips and salsa are great. They have fresh pico de gallo to go with it which is great. Definitely coming back here, especially since we get free sopapillas from their rewards program. :)

We found this place because it's right in our neighborhood. Great food with lots of selection. Great staff. We go there often enough that they recognize us. Great margaritas. We enjoy going here as a family or getting friends together. We often run into our neighbors while we're here so that makes it a fun destination as well.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
