You sure can tell they are baked fresh daily.

How is this place still in business? That question kept running through my head as I left. The interior is ugly, not kept, and hardly anyone dines in unless it's the "regulars" (which, by the way, who gives a shit? I don't see how that's timeless or somehow nostalgic; it means they won't go out of their boundaries for something new and better). I gave two stars for their donuts--they're surprisingly good. However, not good enough where I'd be coming back. It seems the main guy has always run this place on his own, and while that's admiring, hire someone who at least gives you the time and day and leaving like you didn't completely and utterly destroy his feelings. At least smile, dude, you're handling customers. Also, they don't have any coffee selections except for drip. What donut place doesn't have anything aside from drip coffee? I didn't want to experiment with it due to the other reviews saying it tastes like garbage. If it's anything like their interior, I believe it.

Good donuts from a local joint. We came here at about 10 am and a lot of donuts were sold out already. The donuts themselves were fluffy and fresh. Would go again if I'm nearby!

Don't know if it's my imagination or if there's actually been a change in the maple bars, but they seem a bit heavier than previously...less light and delicate. Still better than most, however. Current favorites are the vanilla-frosted French crullers which, unfortunately, are usually gone by the time I get there.

The perfect donut. This guy is a master of his craft. When I think of donuts, I think Countryside.

Classic experience of walking in, having old regulars sitting around having coffee, and ordering a couple of fresh, home-made donuts. I love the mom-and-pop shop atmosphere and the donuts are awesome! The owner isn't exactly a Walmart greeter in his customer service, but I am ok with that. He is never rude and provides me with a great service.

Hands down best donuts I've ever had! This place is family owned and run and has been there for as long as I can remember! The donuts are always so fluffy and fresh! I'm going to cry when they aren't there anymore! If donuts were on my diet, I would be there every day for a maple bar! The owner, Mike, knows my whole family and always asks how my mom is whenever he sees me! I always recommend this place and rave about it to anyone who hasn't been there!

Hands down the best donuts I've ever had. Krispy Kreme, Top Pot, and other Donut shops can't compare! I sometimes go 30 miles out of my way to get a custard-filled donut from this shop. Simply amazing.

I work down the street so someone at the dealership is bound to go to Countryside sometime in the week. Their maple bars are the goods. OH MY, microwave them so it's warm. Oh yum! I have yet to try anything else from there but I haven't heard anything bad about it from my co-workers. I suggest coming early since they do run out of donuts, they always run out so I don't understand why they just don't make more. Supply & demand. When you walk in, it's not too welcoming when it comes to the decor but the donuts make up for it!

Don't normally write reviews on first try but DARN these are YUMMY! I have one favorite donut shop in CA, clearly since I do not live there anymore all I can do is dream about them! Well, as of today my dream had come back to reality!! So light & airy & fluffy! My favorite thing about this place is that they are not stingy with their chocolate frost on the donuts! SCORE!

I have never been to anyplace that so freaking so unfriendly and yeah the donut suck ... Gosh the guy at the front counter is so rude. I feel like he got angry at us for just showing up and buying donuts from his place .. If I could I would take back my $2 and give this place a -10 stars . YES, it's that bad . DO NOT GO HERE !!! I AM SERIOUS ABOUT THIS

Owner is a jerk, not worth going for average donuts.

Perfect maple bars. Light and fluffy and not overly sweet. Not a huge variety but every one is yummy--even the apple fritters. I wish they had danish snd bear claws.

This place is the "goods". Been going here for over 7 years for a reason. Used to go every day until I moved away but still go when Im in the area. The owner Mike is the man, you can call ahead and get dibs on your favorite choice. The glazed french crullers are my favorite, but the buttermilk bars, twists, fritters, turnovers, blueberry, maple bars...shit everything is amazing there. You can really taste a bad donut from somewhere else after eating here. Yeah the interior is older but what donut shop outside of toppot and other shmucky upscale donuts shops dont look like it's from the 70's.

I don't understand how this place doesn't get five stars. Yes, this place is nothing special from the outside, but this donut shop has been around for decades for a reason. Their donuts are the freshest every day, which is why they sell out so early. They literally melt in your mouth! Every time I come here there is a steady stream of people coming in and it's obvious they are repeat customers. The owner knows customers by name and vice versa. The baker's dozen is in full effect unlike chain companies. Coffee is just a cup of joe with your standard cream and sugar. If you want a ridiculously sugary coffee with multiple syrups you won't find it here (thank goodness). But really... no one goes here for the coffee... If you don't want to get diabetes after eating your donut this place has you covered. Unlike many donut places (Top Pot, Krispy Kreme) you don't feel sick to your stomach because the frosting/filling ratio is just right. Let the donuts speak for themselves. Seriously, you are missing out if you don't stop in. FYI... I've seen posts that say credit cards are accepted, but I was just in today (5/17/15) and a sign reads: "cash or checks only" so come prepared. :-) I think that speaks for itself. No business today would survive if they didn't accept cc unless their product was really good. People are willing to make sure they have cash even though it's inconvenient because they understand the donuts are that good. :-)~

Reading these reviews, I can't stress how off some people are. These are the best donuts you will ever have, end of story. You are getting HOMEMADE donuts, fresh that morning, that had to travel exactly 10 feet from where they are made to your hands. If you grew up in the Starbucks generation where everything is highly polished, everything is available 24/7 and the customer is always right, this place isn't for you. This place is old-school. Mike is a small business owner who gets up in the middle of the night every night to make fresh donuts. This isn't a chain like Starbucks, Kristy Kreme or Top Pot. He makes what he can, and when they are gone, that's it. Sometimes he's tired. Sometimes he sells out. That's what the real world of quality, hand-made fresh looks like. Next time you're in a donut shop - ask yourself a question. "Where is the bakery?" - because the answer is "not there". You want to buy some factory-produced, oversized, mass-made donut there are plenty of places. They will probably have tons of everything you want every hour of the day. If you want something really special. Something made by a guy that really cares about what he's serving to people - then you're in for a treat. Just remember he's one guy doing this on his own, so if you want bright, shiny, state-of-the art dining experience this isn't the place. I've gone there twice a week for 13 years. On a few rare occasions I've been there when a batch of donuts has JUST come out of the fryer, and I can promise there is nothing better in the world and I have fond memories of those times. Try that at a chain.

Countryside Donuts makes a great variety of fresh donuts. The owner, Mike, starts making donuts every morning around 3:30. By 6:00 AM you can be assured of fresh, warm donuts. The place is a step back in time where customers talk to you when you enter the store. There are no people hiding behind laptops in this shop. Countryside Donuts isn't a fancy place but they have great donuts and great customers.

This place has been here for years, and it looks it (the booths have been recovered, it's not gross, just not posh). I've been coming here now and then since 1999. Who comes for the ambiance? Seniors. I've noticed that, without fail, there is a booth or two with seniors having coffee, a donut and conversation every day. They seem to come and go. It's part of the place, makes it the local dive that it is, and I like that about Countryside. The maple bars are delicious. We moved away a few years ago, and oddly enough can't find maple bars anywhere near us. Dunkin' is everywhere in NY but I've yet to find a maple bar there, or anywhere else in our area. Anyway, we always look forward to countryside's maples when we visit. Another reviewer had it right.. Doors close when the donuts are gone (why sit around at that point?). And I think this guy is pretty good and making about the right amount. Make too many and he'd put himself out of business. If you need a couple dozen later than 9am, definitely call ahead.

Really good donuts. How good? Bacon-on-maple-donuts good. My wife and I loved Dunkin Donuts while we were in the midwest, but coming to Seattle was a disappointment when we tried the greasy, overly sweet Top Pot Donuts. Then one day while driving down the street, we saw the sign and thought "Why not?" and took a chance. And the rest is toroidal history. Go early for the best selection!

I love that this place is old and a bit worn-down! If you go from 7-9 you will see the old regulars. The doughnuts are on the heavy/greasy side. Better than Top Pot or Krispy Kreme, but there are better local joints around! Also a bit more expensive than Factory Doughnuts down the road. Also, the coffee is terrible. Terrible. My expectations were low, but I was shocked how bad drip coffee can taste.

Despite this donut shop being about 10min down the road from us, we usually just drove 15min and a bit out of the way to Factory Donuts in Kingsgate. The reason was because every time we would drive by here, they were closed. We wondered how this place stayed in business if it was always closed. Turns out they just close at 1pm, but for some reason, they always looked closed even if they might have been open. Anyway, I assume that they just make one batch of donuts for the morning rush and never make more throughout the day. And if they happen to sell out, all they can do is close early if it was a particularly busy morning. (This is still all assumption, by the way.) My family owned two donut shops -- one when I was a baby and another that I helped out at through middle and high schools. We stayed open from 4am to 10pm. So it was very strange for me to see a donut shop that would close at 1pm. (Given, our shop also served sandwiches and hot dogs and other more substantial fare. And it looks like a number of donut shops here in WA close early.) Anyway, I was finally able to pop in at 11:50am today, and happy to see they were actually open. However, the selection was presented on two half-full trays. Chocolate raised, plain raised (if it was glazed, it sure didn't look like), and very sad looking maple bars were on one. Shriveled crullers and some other unappetizing looking stuff on the other. I got two chocolate raised donuts. Now... I don't get donuts very often, so it could be that I just wasn't aware of price increases since owning a shop 9ish years ago. Recently working at a Microsoft cafe where we sold maple bars for .75 even sounded a bit steep to me, but overall reasonable. At Factory, I always just get a croissant, so I don't know their donut prices. But I paid 2.20 for those two donuts, plus .50 because I used a card (rarely carry cash with me, so I'm not too irked about that). That's the price I would expect to pay for a bear claw or apple fritter, not a simple raised donut. It could just be that I'm stingy and cheap, but I already don't want to come back because of the price. The donut, although nice and soft like a raised donut should be despite probably being 6hrs old, wasn't much in taste. So in my opinion, very much not worth the price. It's probably that they make so few donuts for the day and close early that they need to charge more to still turn a profit. My husband may or may not want to try this place for himself this Sunday morning. Maybe we can get a better idea when they actually have more of a selection -- and that may or may not change this review for me. But otherwise, I'll probably stick to Factory Donuts.

Interesting mixed reviews for this place. I guess I'm a lot easier on my evaluation of donut places... Donut places with bacon maples: 4 stars Donut places without bacon maples: less than 4 stars Dunkin-friggin-donuts-and/or-Tim-Horton: 1 star And, that's all I really have to say.

I can't believe that I didn't know this little gem was in the neighborhood! Someone told me about the apple fritters here so I had to try them. Delicious! They were light, fresh, sweet and a nice size. I bought a box of 9 for a meeting and it was only $11.55. I think that is reasonable for freshly baked goods. Waaaay better than the Red Velvet Cake that I had in Ballard yesterday for twice the price and it was horribly dry. Too bad you can't return bakery goods. I want to go back and try the breakfast sausage pastries. They looked REALLY good. Someone said that the place doesn't look like much, which is true, and it is hardly noticable in the strip among Subway and 7 11 but it is worth looking for. I am going to try to not make it a habit, but a special occasion.

I have had the most horrible customer service whenever I have gone there. And this last time has just done it for me. I waited after 2 people in line for donuts and when it came for my turn, the man helped 2 grown men who came in after me before he helped me and probably only because the next person in line noticed and offered me my turn. I held my mouth for the next excited child in line, but called after I left and told him what he just did and he simply said "don't come back" and I WON'T! but geez, how mean. He clearly favors his regulars over the rest of his customers.

This is my brother in law's favorite doughnut place. today I decided to go before work and get some. I ordered 4 doughnuts, it cost $4.90. this is a little spendy for me. Then I run off cause I am late for work and only 3 of my doughnuts are in there. I was the only one in line so it isn't like sidetracked could have happened. I am not happy and not impressed. The doughnuts are good but don't think I would risk being late for them again just to pay to much and not get what I ordered. =(

After seeing the great reviews, we visited this shop on Fathers' Day and ordered three donuts (chocolate old fashioned, apple fritter, and traditional round cake donut with glaze and rainbow sprinkles). We weren't impressed. The donuts were small, and the texture was...meh...unimpressive. My apple fritter was only slightly thicker than pita bread. I guess we were spoiled by growing up down the street from Chuck's Donuts in Renton...now *those* are some great donuts!

Wow. It's hard to imagine that this is the only donut place in the Kirkland area. Where's Dunkin' Donuts?! Countryside Donut House doesn't have as much variety as a DD, but their donuts are just as tasty, if not better. The place looks a bit rundown, and there are always people sitting @ the tables (def NOT a Starbucks crowd, if you KWIM - more like your grandfather or Uncle Frank having a cup before they go fishing). But I'm there for the donuts... aaahhh yum! Each time I've been there, the same guy is behind the counter. He never smiles, but he's attentive to what you want.

The best donuts on the eastside. Family own since the beginning of time. Just make sure you stay on Mike's good side =)

This place has fantastic donuts. The problem is that they routinely run out of donuts mid-morning. This is literally a donut shop without any donuts! It's extremely frustrating to decide to have donuts for breakfast and then go to this donut shop and have then be out mid-morning. I probably won't go back again, I'll go to a donut shop that has donuts to avoid the disappointment.

My cinnamon donut literally disappeared when I took a bite. It was so light and fluffy that there didn't seem to be much donut, only air..... Interesting.... Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of airy/fluffy donuts (zeppoli's and beignets FTW!), but this was ridiculous. I think I'll keep driving to Factory Donuts to get my monthly fix.

  • Chrystal C.

The dude is just mean. Nothing like feeling like I'm a burden as I order donuts to put money into his pocket. This place has been around for a very long time and their donuts are really good, but the last time I went was just that, the last. It was probably a year or so ago and they were still cash only too! I love supporting local small businesses, but I won't tolerate ungrateful, rude people. Top Pot is where it's at!

This is a place where everyone knows your name. Well, no one knew my name but that was only because it was my first time coming here. It's a real throw back to those days when people actually sat down for coffee, a time where doughnuts were eaten at booths and over morning conversations. There's nothing fancy about this joint. It serves doughnuts and coffee and both are at cheap prices. The quality of the doughnuts might have you thinking otherwise. They are light, fluffy, and taste like they are suppose to. One particular thing I noticed was that they looked like the right size that doughnuts should be. They are not the mammoth sized baked goods that one finds at grocery stores. Sure they're huge, but they're heavy and mass produced. The doughnuts here look like they were made by, get this, a real person. This real person is named Mike. You'll regret it if you don't pay him a visit.

Did not have any selection at 9:30am! Could not get enough for my team. Donuts seem burnt, think they need to change their oil. Ick.
