I came here with my two boys (9&11) for a late monday lunch around 1:30pm. We were the only ones there. We shared the 3 item combo that came with Kahlua pork, bbq chicken and bbq beef, rice and mac salad. My boys flipped over the Kahlua pork. Tender and juicy! The chicken was thigh meat that was marinated and seared awesomely. The beef was thin sliced, peppered and seared. All very flavorful and it didn't taste like a heap of single flavored take-out. While dining in for about 30 minutes, 4 other groups came in and ordered so it wasn't completely empty. There was only one man working there. He had just finished sweeping. He washed his hands, took our order, and cooked the food. His t-shirt was soiled from cooking but his practice was clean. We enjoyed ourselves, our tummy's are full and we will be back.

One word sums it up...disappointment! From the customer service to the food--i am suprise this establishment is even open! I Ordered a BBQ chicken plate and here's what I gathered: 1) burnt chicken with lots of rice 2) the chicken was NOT prepared fresh! I think the chicken was prep'd in the morning and they just threw it back on the grill to warm it up and to brown it a little more (in guess browned it too much cause it was burnt). The chicken was rough, you'll know when you get a freshly prepared chicken (it's soft and juicy). Their chicken place was neither. 3) they need to work on flavor. Chicken had no flavor nor did the mac salad. They should be ashamed of themselves. They call the establishment the Aloha Hawaiian Grill...well, where was the aloha?!? No aloha greeting--nothing! The person behind the counter was shy and quiet--couldnt really hear him speak when we ordered our food. Enough is enough! Deleting this address from my GPS and never coming back! MAHALOS!

Ehhh. I don't hate it, but I don't love it. We don't have any Hawaiian food joints in Vancouver, so I was excited to try this place. But it wasn't mind blowing. Ordered the chicken cutlet and spam masubi. While everything tasted good, I felt like I could make this at home. Sampled a few of my friends dishes (loco moco and kaluha pork) and they were good.... But it was just "meh" in my books. Love the macaroni salad though! Would I be back if I was in the Seattle area? Maybe if this was the only thing around. But I wouldn't go out of my way.

I come here pretty often for lunch when i feel like eating something heavy. The katsu cutle is usually my go to. The meal comes with rice and a mac salad, i usually get a double and it comes with a pretty big portion. The staff they don't really say much but there pretty quick with getting the food out so I'm not complaining. The only thing i would say that i didn't like was the place didn't seem really clean, the tables would sticky most of the time and sometimes even the floor.

Was in the area and I needed a quick bite so I stopped here to try them out. Its pretty much like any teriyaki joint all around town but Hawaiian. I got the single Chicken Katsu plate, comes with mac salad and a big scoop of rice. Plenty of chicken, nice & crunchy, fresh out the fryer taste, super hot and pretty good. Mac salad was pretty standard to me but not too shabby. Its already pre-portioned out into a little container and placed in a tub of ice to keep it cold. Comes with a side of katsu sauce as well for dipping. This place reminds me of some of the Hawaiian joints in Portland....pretty good quick lunch, nothing fancy but with a friendly lady at the counter.

Been there a few time. Food is ok abs service is mediocre. Recently went there arond 3pm and the place was empty. When I went to the counter to order, they looked at me like I was bothering them. Not a welcome our a hello, but rather a stare like what where we doing there. Horrible customer service. Needless to say, I turned around and found a better Hawaiian restaurant down the street with bets service and food. Will never be returning to this place again.

This spot was good a few years ago but since then, its been is on a major decline. I'm surprised they're still in business. I ordered a single bbq chicken and when I opened my box, the chicken thighs were all chopped to pieces and looking real unappetizing. The chicken also didn't taste fresh. They need some serious revamping... they had the cook running back and forth taking orders and then making orders while the other girl working was doing who knows what in the back.. We wont be back.

I went here because it was on my way to work this afternoon. Reading the reviews I was a little nervous, but they are not effecting my review at all. I am not an islander, I am from Juneau Alaska and can only compare my loco moco taste to what they serve there. The loco moco was great. The gravy wasn't congealed when I got to work, the taste was good. The hamburger party, there were a couple pink spots but it was fine. The egg was cooked perfectly, I actually wish I would have got a 2nd egg with the loco moco. I also ordered some spam musubi because well, I can. And you should! It's so good. The rice is warm, they put their sauce on the rice and fry up the spam. I could eat it every day. I have to try and forget that it's there, so I don't eat it every day. So, the only reasons they're getting 4 and not 5 stars, is because of the pink patty.

This rating is for the food. The service was good, the lady at the register was nice. I ordered the triple combo + drink and the spam musubi. My friend ordered the S&P combo. Firstly, my friend had egg shells in her eggs for the S&P. She asked for the egggs to be scrambled, it was, which was great, cooked right but there were egg shells. Nothing like a little crunch to your eggs... The triple combo: I can taste the salt in the meat in every bite. Maybe you really like salty food, then this is for you. The chicken was bland, but the pork and beef were too salty. The best part of my meal was the mac salad and the spam musubi. The spam musubi here is great!

Came by to grab some dinner togo, we got the kaluha pork and chicken katsu. I've been wanting Hawaiian food for quite some time now and after nearly 5 months buying my Hawaiian food from Aloha Hawaiian Grill was no disappointment. The kaluha pork was tender and flavorful as I recall, the only downfall is the fact that we failed to purchase the kaluha pork with cabbage. That's a oops on our end. The katsu was ok in my opinion but husband seemed to have enjoyed it. I believe it to be a bit on the dry side and lacking the chicken texture. We double both the orders and left there costing us $20 for dinner, not bad. According to husband, music energy was great and it reflected on the staff. Food came out pipping hot and quickly. Definitely will be going back for more Hawaiian food in the future and remember the kaluha pork with cabbage.

I'm not sure if this place had a change in owners or management but up until a couple of months ago, I loved coming here. But the last time I visited changed everything. The guy at the register didn't seem to know what he was doing and didn't know much about the food. There was only one woman working the grill so between the people in the lobby and people getting to go orders, my spam and eggs took up 25 minutes of my half hour lunch. And the taste wasn't very good, the spam was only a little more than warmed up and I wanted over medium eggs and they were still really runny. Might have been because the one person behind the grill was rushed

The first time I went to Aloha Hawaiian Grill, I ordered a mini plate of chicken katsu, and it was okay. Nothing special, but it served its purpose - I was craving chicken katsu and it satisfied me. I decided to go back because I was curious to try their loco moco, which is, hands down, my favorite Hawaii dish. Got a mini loco moco plate and was so sad when I got back to work to eat it. Weird flavored gravy - mixture between tangy and burnt. Hard, burnt, overcooked beef patty. Well done eggs when I specifically asked for overeasy. Come on, the yolk is supposed to be runny. That's one of the reasons I love loco mocos so much - all that deliciousness oozing and mixing with the rice and gravy. I wish I had checked my plate before I left because I would have asked the girl to fix it. If you're from Hawaii, you understand. When you live in the mainland, you get cravings and you need to have Hawaiian food. And then when it's not good, it's almost heartbreaking. This place is not a legit Hawaiian place if they can't even get a loco moco right. Maybe this was an off day. Maybe not. Either way, I will not be going back to find out. And $3.50 for a small rectangle of butter mochi? Girl bye.

Facility: As other reviewers have claimed, it's uninviting when I went. The tables weren't wiped down, the floor looked like it wasn't mopped in days. Also, soda fountain has appears it isn't maintained either. Customer Service: It's of the attitude of not wanting to be at work. Food: Super Ohana was better then expected. This plate had four different styles of meat prepared which even for two people, is a lot. Price to Value: So-so. Teriyaki and BBQ places have similar price to quantity. If the customer service improved, you'd feel better about the cost. Also, if the place was maintained. Overall: Not the place to go for lunch or anything. It is good for first timers with some money to spend or if you are wanting to try something different. But if this place is depending on just the good food to bring people in, it needs revising.

Went Friday night at around 7:00pm. Walked in and went up to the counter and was looking at the menu. We were not looked at by the staff, nor greeted in any way. We said we were ready and he said "What?". Wow. Should have left then, but wanted to give it a try. So we ordered our food. No smile, no thank you, not much of anything from the young man that took our order. Food was ready in a reasonable amount of time. All food is given to you in to go containers. Kind of hard to eat out of Styrofoam containers with plastic utensils, especially when you have to cut your meat. Food was mediocre at best. The Mac salad was the best part. Very disappointed in the Service, food, and cleanliness of the restaurant. Now both of us that went are having intestinal issues, how we did not get food poisoning. Definitely would not recommend or return.

I was really happy to find a Hawaiian joint close to where I was working for the weekend. After putting in a hard day of work I needed some kine grind. My husband has only had my Hawaiian fried rice so I wanted to take him out to try a full meal deal. Right away the Ohana meal was the best option. Lots of chicken and pork. I also got some spam/sausage musubi. All of it was fresh off the grill and packed island flavor. The only thing that threw me off was not getting a plate to eat off of. I had to creatively maneuver the food around to make sure we both had our own "plate" to eat off of. Portions were plentiful. We heated up left overs for lunch and dinner the following day. I didn't have a favorite because I really liked everything offered in the family meal. I can't wait to get more musubi!

Ordered the triple combo with Kahlua pork, beef and bbq chicken, passing on the Kahlua pork and Mac salad. Order came out in 10 mins and portions were generous. Staying at TownePlace and Suites so location was very close. The beef and chicken were tasteful. Servers were cordial and helpful. Place was clean and orderly. Will definitely try their breakfast menu tomorrow.

I usually really like this place. The food is good enough and the service is quick. Today however I pulled into their parking lot to see all of the restaurant chairs put up on the tables; I thought they were closed but noticed from their sign they still had a good 45 minutes til closing. It seemed like the two guys working just wanted to get out of there so we went somewhere else. If I was the owner I wouldn't have been very happy.

This place is comfort food 101. The loco moco is awesome! The BBQ chicken is always grilled to perfection and lets not forget the spam masubi! The only thing missing is the beach and some hula girls!

  • Jim L.

This place is definitely an "eh." I had pulled pork, and it was okay. It irritated me that the cashier said "be careful" with the bag. It turned out there was so much watery juice in the pork that the plastic bag had a full cup of liquid that had spilled out of the container even though I was careful. Why not just drain it prior to serving? The pork was pretty bland, it came with rice and (inexplicably) macaroni salad.

Lived in Hawaii Kai for 6 years & always loved to grid on plate-lunch from various places on Oahu. I went to Aloha Grill on 9/24/2014 & got triple combo & it was delicious & huge portions for $7.95. Very good & not too salty.. (my only comment is that they need to wipe down tables & chairs with cleaner. They are kinda gross..) Great friendly service from both gals! Will try Loco Moco next...

  • Justin I.

First off the Japanese/Hawaiian cashier didnt even smile or nothing when assisting customers. He looked sleepy and did not want to speak a word!!! He looked some what pissed off. I ordered the kalua loco moco and asked for over-medium eggs. One egg was fine but the other egg looked like he cracked the egg in the gravy and let the heat of the rice cook it lol. The egg white was running all over my rice!!!! Gross!! My girl got the chicken katsu with the bbq. The katsu actually tasted good along with the bbq which is why I am rating this a 3 star. Get a new cashier or something and this will turn into a five. Recommend the chicken katsu and that is it!

Great fix for kahlua pork and mac salad when you are in the area. Single portion had an overly generous amount of pork. The only complaints were the sticky floors and the layer of oil under my rice from the pork. Otherwise fast service and only one worker.

  • Glenn P.

New menu, authentic Hawaiian food. They do seem to have a supply issue - this last trip they were out of 3 out of 8 fountain beverages. Before they've been out of a certain meat or menu item. I really miss the Edamame (steamed soy beans w/ salt) and brown rice. They had these when they opened a few years back, but took them off the menu. The prices are good / fair. I'll go back again in a month or two.

  • Carrie T.

The kalua pork and cabbage is still ok but I don't think the portion got bigger, looked smaller. I agree I think this place is going downhill. I tried few other dishes like the fried rice... well I thought I ordered fried rice but it was 2 scoops of white rice, few pieces of spam and one scrambled egg which I did ask for but fried rice means everything should be fried together? the spam was so hot that it burnt the styrofoam container! ok talk about leeching chemicals into my food? Price was average. The people working there were pleasant but yeh it was like a bunch of afterschool kids working the counter...albeit older looking kids and I don't get the feeling they were from Hawaii. And yes strange thing is half the restaurant looks like they closed it off but placing all the chairs on top of the tables. when I drove up I thought they were closed! there is a new Hawaiian place opening up down the road close to East Valley so maybe give them a shot.

Terrible. Easily a never go back. Service is lacking. Atmosphere is not existent. Food is ok, doesn't compensate for short comings. Owner clearly has given up. The kahlua pig, ironically is one of the better I've had in awhile.

My husband has been here before but this was my first time. The food came out quickly but the girl working was new and I have no idea what she was thinking but she messed up our order. We didn't realize until there were several more people in line, so I waited to tell them. She didn't even know what she did but basically she gave extra meat on my husband's meal and forgot to make my meal completely... Once we got all the food, it was very yummy! The BBQ beef was my favorite. The mac salad could have used a bit of salt and the meats could have used less. Huge portions of food. Overall though, I liked the food.

Used to like this place. Think the management is hiring trash and now the place looks like a trash can with all the flies flying around the lobby! The cooks who work the register without washing hands and wear no hairnets! I will never ever go back! Glad there's another plate lunch place opening soon down the street!

  • Tricia J.

I wish I could give them no stars or negative stars! We used to come here all the time. They must have changed ownership or something because today was TERRIBLE! Not only that but they completely changed their menu and the things we were looking for were not there anymore. The jokers that were behind the counter today told us it would be 5 minutes to get our order when in fact it took 20 minutes and ate up my husband's lunch break. He didn't even get a chance to eat lunch. When I asked why it took so long they only said "there's nothing I can do about it, there was another orders ahead of you" if you can't deliver in the time you said then don't promise that. If we knew it would have taken 20 minutes we would have definitely gone somewhere else. Do not go here in the middle of the day!

Not exactly fine dining but great food and friendly staff. The hubs and I are big favorites of the loco moco, spam musubi, and the mac salad. It's a cute hidden spot that curbs our island cravings until we get back on the rock.

Open sign was on, no hours posted on the door. Walked in for a quick bite around 8pm. We were not greeted though the cook looked right at us stamdimg at the counter. Too bad the open sign hadn't been turned off - we had such a strange experience. The gal behind the counter comes back up front and took our order after several minutes - no hello, no thanks for waiting... okay and she even asked us if we wanted to eat in or take it to go. We chose to eat in. While waiting for our order, someone else came in and was turned away - the gal just said "we're closed." No sorry, no to-go orders only, no thanks for coming by. Anyway, our order came out and they immediately cut the radio so it was dead quiet and a clear signal that we were not welcome to stay. We asked for a bag and took it all to go anyway. The musubi was good, as was the loco moco, but my husband's lau combo was, in his words "just a bunch of salted pork." Add that to fountain drinks that tasted like the taps needed to be cleaned and the poor service, and we will not be back.

This place was sticky. Everything was sticky - tables, floors and chairs. The food was okay nothing really special, i'm not sure about how authentic it is. That being said, I don't think I'll ever eat inside this restaurant again because of the stickiness.

Having lived for a short while on Maui, I have eaten plenty of Hawaiian food. Aloha Hawaiian grill has good overall cuisine, though they will serve Kahlua pig without poi, which is odd. Restaurant cleanliness is hit or miss. Sometimes it's spotless and shiny in there, other times the tables are all dirty and the garbage is overflowing.

    (3)
  • Stephanie O.

I used to come here all the time, but yesterday was a bad experience for me. I came in 30 mins after opening. Chairs were still stacked. The place was dirtier than usual. The garbage was nearly full. Just an uncomfortable experience for me. The place was full of silence except of the cook who was coughing and hawking loogies the entire time. The other worker who was rude, was no where to be found after he took my order Normally, I'd give it 1 star, but the food was good (hopefully germ free from the cook). I think I'll just drive the extra distance and go to saimin says, l&l or Kauai family

Went to Hawaiian BBQ Grill, in Kent to get some local grinds while visiting ohana in Kent. It was just like home with a mainland flare. I'm going back home Waimanalo on Oahu and tell all my ohana and friends they gotta check this place out while visiting Seattle, its right by the airport and south center mall. Aloha

  • Clarice G.

Seriously...what are the hours for this place? My last visit was on a Saturday night at 7pm (peak time for dinner, right?). Each time I stop by it looks like they are ready to close the place--the chairs are always up on tables and customers are standing while waiting for their orders. During my last visit, I thought that it was very RUDE and INCONSIDERATE that one of the employees constantly rolled his eyes and looked at the clock each time a customer walked in. If you're closing, please... turn off the open sign and lock the doors to prevent any last minute orders. When Aloha Hawaiian Grill opened up a few years ago, it was a clean family owned restaurant with a good sized menu. Recently, they've really downsized the menu to a number of items. I'll take quality over quantity, but the quality isn't there. Two thumbs down. I had hope for this place, but I'm constantly disappointed after each visit. P.S. Please please please clean the place! Tables are sticky, floors are dirty--not very welcoming.

If you're from Hawaii, or have ever been to Hawaii, you know how the food ought to taste and you expect the service to be stellar considering Hawai'i's economy is based on the service industry. Aloha Hawaiian Grill is a poor imitation of island food so if you're expecting to get a taste of the islands, don't stop here. My son ordered the saimin and wouldn't eat it. The kid eats noodles like the world is going to run out and he stopped eating after a few bites. I tasted it. The noodles were overcooked and the broth tasted they accidentally dropped a dirty dish rag in the pot. Fail. I ordered the loco moco, something i thought you could only ruin by not cooking the egg right... well, I was wrong. The gravy tasted like cheap chicken broth thickened with cornstarch. It was flavorless and gelatinous enough to cover up the fact that the hamburger patty was squashed so hard with the spatula that it cracked along the edges and looked like a deformed sun and the bottom was burned to a crisp. Literally black and so burned that when I flipped it over to show my co-worker, he had to ask me what it was. Hey, but they cooked the egg perfect. OK, so the food is terrible. At least it was cheap, right? Well, when the guy behind the counter acts like he's pissed at you because you interrupted the phone conversation he was having in the back, and his co-worker comes out of the back just long enough to give you a once over, only to disappear and leave you waiting at the counter once again, I have to say, the experience is NOT WORTH IT. To the guy whose phone conversation I interrupted, don't worry, I won't be back to bother you again and I'll be sure to tell a friend...

This place is LEGIT, dare I say TOO legit?? So some background, I lived in Honolulu for 26 months... So you can say that makes me like 1/3 kama'aina. So if you come here there is no doubt you have to get the meat triple combo no question just do it. The trip combo really does represent the best of the best when it comes to Hawaiian grinds. Kalua Pork, BBQ Chicken & BBQ Beef and it does not disappoint!! Side note, I have a beef with Seattle area musubi, well just one thing, the nori wrap!!! When in Hawaii stop by any ABC Store and grab a musubi combo out of the warmers, you will find that the nori wrap is nice and soft and doesn't have any resemblance to leather. I don't know what it is but at both Ohana's in Belltown (which I love) and AHG the musubi is done a misfortunate disservice, with the wrap being (just wrong).

I was disappointed in this restaurant. Very uninviting, half of the store had the chairs on top of the tables, I wasn't sure if it was open. There was a film on every surface, very unclean. The food was fine but I can't get past the dirty appearance.

    (2)
  • Guy N.

Big Portions, Reasonable Prices I ordered a Chicken Katsu/Kahlua Pork double combo that was pretty decent. Also had a $1.25 Spam Musubi that was probably the best I've ever had. This place is no Rainbow Drive-In, but it's about as close as you're going to get on this side of the Pacific.

I'm updating my review from last time! I decided to give them another try because my husband loves this place. The kid that was working the front wasn't there. My food was exactly how I wanted it! It was delicious! We are very excited that the service is back = )

  • Melissa T.

Went here today for dinner and I won't be coming back. The service was meh. All three workers seemed like they did not want to be there. A new girl was working the cashier and I'm patient with newbies because they're just starting, but train your employees so that they know their menu. The other side of the restaurant had chairs on top of the tables. Hm, I could've sworn the restaurant was still open... We got the combo to try a variety of the food and well, I let my friend take the rest of the food home.

  • JoAnn A.

I think the portion-sizes here are fairly big and the prices are pretty good. Taste-wise, I mean, I think it's decent. To be honest, this is probably the only place I've had Hawaiian food, so I don't have anything else to compare it to, but I didn't think the food was terrible. I did like what I got (I typically get the katsu) and wouldn't mind coming back here for more. Also, the times I've been here, it wasn't terribly busy so I've never had to wait really long for my food.

"Nope, sorry.... the rest of the pork is MINE!" Said I, while shooing away plastic forks trying to hone in on the Kalua pork. My status as a person who doesn't eat pork is slowly becoming a joke due to places like this. Apparently pork IS good when it is cooked properly -- something I never really experienced until moving out this direction I guess. And man, these guys' Kalua pork is so soooooo good. This wasn't my first choice for lunch either. I had just helped my sister move and we were accordingly ravenous. She didn't want burgers, someone else didn't want chicken, and everything else just seemed too nice for our sweaty & sore bodies. I think general apathy and hunger led us here. 2 combos (and ONLY $16) later (the seafood one and whatever one game with the pork, beef & chicken) we were all happily stuffed and content with our meals. My sister polished off the beef, her boyfriend the chicken, mine the fish, and me the pork. Though I think we all secretly wanted a little more of what everyone else laid claim too. The rice that came with both the combos was light and fluffy - and just stellar mixed w/some sriracha and meat product of your choice. If you are out in the burbs you should totally stop by. Like, perhaps if you are at Ikea and don't feel like Swedish meatballs? Or just want some really damn tasty Hawaiian bbq!

While running errands I happened to drive by this place and see the sign. Having lived in Hawaii before, I am a fan of the local food and quickly popped in for some lunch. I ordered the Kalua Pig and cabbage, which was delicious. My only complaint is the cabbage wasn't cooked quite enough, but delicious nonetheless. The mac salad was right on, bringing back memories of the islands. Let's just say I wish this place was near me, as if the rest of their fare tastes as good I'm a fan.

The meat was marinaded way too long like it had been in there for several days. The katsu had no flavor. Lived in Hawaii for awhile and Hawaiian food doesn't taste like this. There are better Hawaiian food places out there: L&L , Kauai family. Don't waste your time coming here.

Same ol' Hawaiian plate lunch. Loco moco gravy good. Not too salty, like most places. Only came here because our favorite Hawaiian restaurant wasn't open yet and spotted this place in passing. Monkey may possibly drop in again when in the area for musubi on the go.

I wanted to like this place so much, however after many tries, 2 stars is the most I can give. Having grown up in Hawaii, I know a good hawaiian plate lunch, and this is not even close. Mac salad is pretty bad, as is the BBQ chicken. Musubis and kalua pork are alright, though those are pretty hard to mess up. Chicken katsu absolutely terrible. The pieces are all fat, and no meat, and the flavor is bad and very greasy, like old oil. I've gone back multiple times, hoping the food will be bettter, but no. Maybe I'm just too spoiled by having grown up with good hawaiian food, but all I know is I will not be coming back.

Wholesome, fulfilling food. The owners are originally from Hawaii, making the food that more authentic. Kitchen, dining area and restrooms are clean plus the owners utilize name-brand Restaurant equipment so that should indicate how dedicated they are to serve Good-Food!

This review was written about a year ago, but just haven't posted till now, so things could have improved since then, but I still don't feel compelled to go back. The place wasn't as good as I remembered. The noodles in the saimin was way overcooked; the katsu and portugese sausage was way too greesy. I don't think we will never come here again.

Darn good Paradise Chicken - Katsu Curry. Takeout before work last week; perhaps it could've had a smidgens more rice to soak up that yummy curry. Want to try out more! I do think it was odd for them cleaning up the right half side during business hours (lunch-ish time)... isn't that done during non-biz hours? Staff is cool to ok.

We live right up the street from this place and I love Hawaiian food.. So how exciting was it, to know this place was so close? The first time I went here, they were out of short ribs. At around 2:00 in the afternoon on a Sunday. So ok.. sold like hotcakes. That's fine, I'll try another combo. The place was busy but there was room to dine comfortably and the food was good so I would've given it maybe 3-4 stars at that point. Probably 3. Went here at 7:40 on a Tuesday evening. THEY DO NOT CLOSE AT 8:30 LIKE IT SAYS ABOVE. Just scanning through some of the other reviews I see where there is a common issue with employees being rude and them not being very welcoming and my son is 1/2 Hawaiian so I've been around Hawaiians a lot. The service here does NOT properly represent the true Hawaiian way. So like some other reviews note, at a very early time when most businesses still welcome customers because without customers, a business will not thrive.. they have all their chairs up on a table. Except for the 2 tables where there are already people sitting down eating. The kitchen which is viewable from the dining room appeared closed and shut down and the asian guy with a mustache behind the counter couldn't even force himself to smile once. I asked, "You're still open right?" And I think he said ya. (The sign on the door says 8:00 as their closing time while some days I think said 8:15??) So, already feeling like the dining experience was not as pleasant as I would've liked, I asked my son, "What do you want to have?" When he decided I told this guy with the mustache, who seemed so perturbed that we would actually come in 20 mins before closing and possibly risk him having to leave later than the second they can lock their doors, and this guy said, "To go?" I asked, "Can we eat here?" And his reply was, "We close at 8:00" So my boyfriend said, "We'll have to eat fast." But looking at the expression on this rude guy's face who should be glad he is even employed, I said, "Do you just wanna go somewhere else? I wanna go somewhere else." And at that moment I decided, if I want Hawaiian, L&L is not much further away and that's where I'm going cause I'm not coming back here. The food's gotta be pretty damn good for me to put up with mediocre service and the food here isn't anywhere good enough for me to want to put up with crappy service. I thought about trying to write to the owner or something but with all the reviews on here that pertain to their staff issues, it's pretty clear no attempts are being made to fix it. With so many people looking for work, it'd be easy to replace the bad apples but obviously they're still there contributing to all the bad reviews that are posted on here and it's very possible the problem begins with the owner or management. It's really too bad. To me they're really just a waste of some well located retail space now...

A friend and I checked out Aloha Hawaiian Grill for the first time last night and it proved to be a nice little spot to have dinner before catching a movie at nearby Regal Parkway Plaza 12. The dining area seemed clean, albeit there were a lot of extraneous chairs (?!). Friendly counter and kitchen staff and our food was ready after a reasonable wait. I opted for my standard Kalua Pig & Cabbage, and of course the portion was gargantuan. Great flavor and the cabbage was tender. Even the rice was unusally tasty! While the macaroni salad was nothing out of the ordinary, it was fine as a counterpoint to the salty notes of the pork. In addition to standard soft drinks, Aloha also has a selection of canned Hawaiian juices and tea and on this particular day they were offering coconut ice cream as a special!

While I am generally pretty happy with Aloha Hawaiian Grill's food, I am a bit disappointed at the moment while I eat my food I just got from there. While I am basically in love with kalua pork...I find Aloha Hawaiian Grill's pork to be VERY smoky. Probably smokier than L&L Hawaiian BBQ's pork. At least this pork isn't dry though! I have been here several times, and their pork is different every time, which means that they need to work on their consistency. They have good chicken katsu, though.Their mac salad is pretty good as well. I wanted some haupia, but they were out! Sadness. The portions are fairly large here for the inexpensive prices. Once they get it together on the consistency, I might consider bumping the rating up to 4 stars. If I'm paying for food, I at least want to know what it tastes like...otherwise I would just order something random off the menu!

I deaparately wanted to like this place; the name, the nice decor, the nice people, exceptionally clean. However that didn't quite work out as planned. The food was oversalted to a degree that was scary; the meats, the rice, and even the mac salad. The mac salad (a hawaiian staple) was very low quality, and far from tasty. Sadly, this place does not make the grade.

This place is absolutely GROSS! Where is the ALOHA?! I was in about 11:30am and ordered a teriyaki mixed plate - the teriyaki was precooked, was a little GRAY in color, returned it - manager/owner not apologetic so I walked out! This is definitely a NO NO, NO!!!!

great lunch place: the food is good and tasty! and the price is right. i would eat here more if i left the office more often. i've only had the bbq chicken since i haven't been disappointed or felt the need to explore other choices. (comes with grilled chicken, cabbage and rice, along with mac salad). the small is plenty enough for a big lunch. satisfied every time.

In my sickened stupor, I convinced myself that this place might have wonton soup like a Hawaiian BBQ place in Bellingham. I realllly needed some wonton soup, so I stopped in after driving by this place a million times. This store was empty, with two employees - a girl at the counter and a guy preparing food in the back wearing a bandanna that was too crisp and too clean to mean anything other than "Gang Fashion Lite". Being sick, it took me a while to read the menu and figure out that there was no wonton soup, the only soup there was seemed to be ramen-esque and not what I was looking for, and most everything was going to be too heavy for my system to handle comfortably. I'm sure the cashier thought I was slow. Eventually I ordered the Spam Musubi which is essentially spam sushi. There was something else that was sushi with grilled chicken instead. Imagine my surprise when the "rolls" were square shaped and GARGANTUAN. Like - almost 2 cups of rice per roll people. I liked the chicken better than the spam, but I would definitely have them again for a midday snack. I can't quite give this place 3 stars, but I will definitely try an entree and revisit this review in the future.

Tried this place for the first time just the other day. The portions are enormous. I really liked the chicken, both the Katsu and the bbq. I really like whatever teriyaki sauce they have for the tables here, very tasty and pairs well with the food even the pork which I'm not normally a fan of. I liked that we could easily make more than one meal out of the food we got. We got our food quickly and the cashier was very helpful in making suggestions. Would dine here again.

It's really hard for me to give only 3 stars given that this is the food I grew up on, but it's really hit or miss. The food isn't terrible, but it isn't up to the standards of mom and pop's cooking. I go because mom and pop live to far away and I'm too lazy to cook some of these dishes myself. Some items come off too greasy and some are off the hook. :) I normally go in and order the Kalua Pig and Laulau plate. Portions, regardless of what you order, are generous with the exception of the Macaroni Salad. That portion is small, but it's not the greatest either so it's no loss. Still if you like Mac Salad, order an extra to get a "normal" portion. Service is hit and miss, but they're friendly and quick and the music is great. Oh, and I enjoy grabbing the free wi-fi from Starbucks next door. ;) Biggest negative is that they close early and the parking lot is crappy. Too bad they're not in a better location!

The food is great, exactly how it should taste. The employees were very friendly. I took 1 star away because they need to pipe some music into the dining area, it's too uncomfortably quiet. Needs music. How about some Hawaiian music even. I'm telling you the place is too quiet...

Their Loco Moco is Loco delicious! Kalua pork is also good (though a bit dry) This place wasn't all that great when they first opened, but I've gone back since then and they have improved on their service and their food. Awesome and will return again. The place is clean, bright and have a varity. They have good ice cream and coconut cake. Good to go on days you're visiting Tukwila to shop!

This place is somewhere I will go if I'm in the area and am craving something Hawaiian. But it's not a place I'd go out of my way for. I have been back several times so obviously I do like it. Maybe I just had a bad experience this past week. I got the Kahakai special, which is mahi mahi, fried shrimp, and your choice of BBQ chicken, katsu, or ribs, I believe. I always get the chicken, because I really do like how they cook it, and maybe I should just stick with getting just the BBQ chicken plate. On to the food: the mac salad was hard, the rice was a little too dry for my taste, and my one piece of fish was tiny. Pretty disappointing. The three pieces of shrimp was alright. My friend got katsu, which is also another safe plate. Their sauce is pretty good, and katsu is always yummy. I also got the butter mochi to go, and granted, I did wait an hour or two before eating it, but it was way too cakey, not enough mochi-ey. Too dry, not enough sticky. Anywhoo, it's a good place to try, and I'm sure you'll find something you like. It just might take a few tries. And also going earlier to get the fresh stuff. But for me, it's usually a hit or miss.

Generally, I'm a positive person when it comes to trying out new foods. I love food, and I'll put anything in my mouth for that matter. Pause. Anyways, so I ordered a staple, the Hawaiian BBQ mix (combo number one) which has BBQ pork, chicken and beef. The pork and beef were shredded and the chicken was boneless. The shredded tasted absolutely horrible. It had an acidic taste to it, with absolutely no BBQ flavor to it at all. The chicken was dry and oily. The shredded beef was a slight redeeming portion of the meal, but only by comparison. I have no idea why the BBQ lacked so much flavor. I'm surprised they didn't even cover the meats with some sort of Hawaiian BBQ sauce, but nothing. Other notes: the place is really clean inside, and spacious. Waiting for my food was a little annoying considering how few people had ordered before me. Lastly, I don't feel my BBQ mix was worth nine dollars. I go for staple dishes at Asian restaurants because I feel like that's the best way to gauge how good they are. This place failed.

Three suggestions for under $6.00 each: 1) Spam, eggs & rice 2) Portuguese sausage, eggs & rice 3) Loco Moco Appetizer: Spam Musubi I love how it is right across the street from my work. Every time I crave spam (I love me some spam), this place hits the spot.

YUM! Can I leave my review at that? Hubby & I stumbled upon this place after coming back from Hawaii for our honeymoon. I saw online that they had loco moco and found a coupon for buy one plate get one free. We were not disappointed. Every time we get the loco moco so I'm unsure how the other food tastes. I like how you can customize the loco moco. I don't like egg yolk so I have them flatten my egg.

Wow...this place is just bad. Case in point: We go there on a weekday and noticed the place had quite a few people for a regular weekday. We ordered our food and began to stare around at all the other customers while waiting for our food. There was this one family that we were observing, they were having quite a bit of a conversation with the teenager having the saimin(sort of like ramen noodles). They were about to pack up to leave but you could tell all their plates were pretty full. The awkward looks from the family toward each other ensued as to whether to take the food home or just dump it ensued. tick tock tick tock... They got up... dumped all their food and left. DAMN IT! There goes all expectations of a good meal. Needless to say, the food was pretty bad and we dumped out some of our food too even though I'm usually known as the human trash compactor.

This was my first time going to Aloha Hawaiian Grill, after all the times I've passed it. I had the BBQ Beef and it was very flavorful. I was extremely excited to be able to eat their macaroni salad, because L&L's has tuna in their mac salad and I'm allergic to fish. My 2 year old daughter had the Spam Saimin and it was delicious! We also had a little bit of Haupia and it was very filling for such a small cup. I'll have to make more trips there to try out the rest of their menu.

OK came here for lunch not bad. the pork was real good, the chicken not as good and it could have been, the beef was pretty good. the mac could have been a little better not to bad but a little light in the flavor as well. the service could have been a little more friendly i do feel. the wife and i have been to Hawaii 2 in the last 2 months and have eatten some wonderfull raod side food. and the people were always nice weather at a fancy place or a road side.ok thats pretty much it for now..oh ya and yes i would eat here again. if that helps anyone out.

After having gone to Kauai Family Restaurant and another Hawaiian restaurant on Maple Valley Highway, this restaurant cannot even compare. I normally have the BBQ short ribs, but I didn't feel like getting my fingers dirty, so I opted for the cheeseburger. The patty was small and covered with a sort of sweet gravy that I did not like. If you like sweet mixed with salty, you might like it. But that's not my style. My husband got the loco moco, which only came with one patty--I guess most places include two? Also, the scoop of pasta salad was skimpy and it didn't even taste that good. Bland, to be honest. The food is alright if you're hungry and need something in a jiffy--and don't want the typical fast food fare. But I wouldn't go out of my way for this restaurant.

I really like this place. If I had faster metabolism, I would want to eat here everyday. Go for the moco loco and the macaroni salad if you want to die happy. The spam musubi and saimin noodle soup are are good too. I just eat here and tell myself that I'll get liposuction later.

I've seen this place every time I passed by on my way to Costco or Nordstrom Rack. Finally, after all this time, I decided it was time to try it since I would never make it down to federal way to try the L&L up here (I've only tried the L&L down in southern California) Since I didn't know what I wanted to eat, I went for the combo with the chicken, short ribs, and bbq beef. It was actually pretty decent. Everything tasted about the same as a regular Hawaiian BBQ place. The only negative thing was the rice seemed a little old, or maybe just too dry for my taste. Prices are on par with the other places.

If your looking for Hawaiian food check out this place its really close to Ikea and the back part of SouthCenter. They have really good portions. If you need an essence of Hawaii come check this place out.

On the plus side, these guys have Haupia and Poi, which are surprisingly hard to find at many "Hawaiian" restaurants in the area. On the minus side, both taste like they come from the "instant mixes" you can buy at any grocery store on the island, rather than the fresh made stuff. This place serves fairly authentic dishes, and the food honestly isn't bad. They get the mac salad right (overcooked, not watery), and the bbq beef tasted sweet and gingery. Overall, the food is acceptable, but again, there is nothing that sticks out... Maybe if they their Poi and Haupia tasted more authentic? Not sure. Not much of a dine in place. The atmosphere is strictly "plastic chair and a couple of posters" with some fairly old Hawaiian music piped in. Parking is decent since they have their own lot, but it's in an odd location, somewhat kitty corner to the Home Depot in the south end of the Tukwila shopping area.

For the most part, I've had a good experience here. I love Hawaiian food places and this one is pretty decent. I've been spoiled because I've been at some GREAT Hawaiian places. That considered, this place gives you a lot of food at decent prices and it tastes good. I usually get the chicken or beef. I've had the ribs which are great. I'd say 2/3 of the time the ribs I was given had very little fat on them and lots of meat, but I've had a couple times where there was a LOT of fat. BTW, I LOVE Loco Moco. At this place, when its good its GOOD, when its not, its not. Its really hit or miss on the Loco Moco. I've noticed that the chefs switch during the week, so it might just be one particular chef.

If I'm in the area and craving teriyaki, this is my pick for low-brow rice-and-fried-object lunch. The macaroni sadly leaves much to be desired -- waxy/greasy and flavorless -- but the katsu chicken is hot, crisp and plentiful. Get one Teriyaki/Katsu special and split it with a friend for a dirt-cheap, down-and-dirty meal.

  • Kel S.

I eat here a lot. This place is fast, cheap, generous portions and the food is good. The food quality here is a LOT better than L&L's. You'll notice it right away if you order the BBQ chicken. They have their own special marinade and its quite tasty. I also recommend the Loco Moco, Katsu, or Kaulua Pork. And don't forget the Spam Musubi! For a quick and fast dinner or lunch you can't go wrong here.

First time here-ordered the loco moco which is one of my favorite dishes...unfortunately it was a miss at this place... the flavor was lacking, and the gravy had grease floating on top of it-not appealing at all!

  • Henry L.

I had the Loco Moco, which is Hamburger patty, Egg, brown gravy, with rice and Mac salad. taste was OK, not jaw dropping, but just OK. My wife tried to order her usual Kalua Pork w/ Lau Lau Combo. But they rand out of Lau Lau!! Either it's that good, or we were just eating too late in the evening (7PM). Well, they can redeem another star if we get to have the Lau Lau next time, and if it's good. But for now, I think L&L still better in terms of serving size and taste.

Very good- tasty hawaiin barbecue- try the Spam Musubi - I tell people to try the "Spam Sushi" and they always say "Gross". It is tasty. I eat here on a weekly basis, and have never had a bad meal. The staff is always cheerful and accomadating

I ordered the Loco Moco...they put so much gravy on it that it might as well have been soup. I love hawaiian food and was totally disappointed in this place. I definitely recommend going to L&L if you want decent hawaiian food.

We had wanted to try some Hawaiian-style food since moving here, just to see if it could stack up to the real thing. After working up an appetite wandering through the vast Ikea maze, Aloha Hawaiian Grill seemed to be a suitable enough choice. The restaurant seems to be in a fairly new building with an interior reminiscent of L&L, as so many of the newer ones seem to be. The music was, of course, Hawaiian, but they did have a varied play list, so it did not seem too touristy. We arrived just before the lunch rush, and by the time we left, all of the tables were full. I did not know what to expect from the food, but I was slightly comforted after hearing some pidgin from the kitchen. The menu had all the standard fare: BBQ chicken, beef stew, musubi, kalua pork, kalbi, etc. As I had been craving some chicken katsu curry for the past couple months, it was an easy choice for me (why is there no Curry House here?!). The katsu was good: very crispy, but still juicy. The curry on the other hand was fairly ordinary. There was a little spice to it, but I could almost swear they were just using the reconstituted stuff from the store. For her, it was the plate lunch standard-bearer, the loco moco. All of the components were there, but unfortunately, it could have been much better. The burger did not seem to have much flavor, the egg (over-easy) was over cooked, and the gravy was the powdered stuff. As far as the rest of the meal goes, the mac salad, which was served in a cup on the side, was what I had expected, and the flavor reminded me a lot of Zippy's. There is not much to say about the rice other than it is sticky and served by the scoop. Prices were not too far from what I expected, with a mini plate at about $5.00 and a regular plate at about $7.00. We both ordered a mini plate and were glad we did; the portions were very large. Overall, I have had a better plate lunch, but for the portion value and the craving, it was satisfying. I probably will not drive down here just to go again, but if I happen to be in the area, I can almost hear the kalbi calling my name already.

Had the Kalua pork and cabbage and thought it was great! However, the macaroni salad was average... I went for lunch and didn't have a problem finding a seat and the food came pretty quick. I'll definitely be going back.
