Phenomenal!! Diamond in the rough with open courtyard in back - perfect escape on a sunny day. Service is slow but food is amazing and worth the wait!! Haven't had a bad meal yet. Seattle fare & flair tucked neatly into Everett. A fave spot to drop

Food and drinks are excellent. Service? It's hit and miss, especially if you sit on the outdoor patio. Go have a Cuban sandwich and some rum punch, but go when you have time.

I really enjoyed they had a vegan option for me. What I ordered was OK..... I do wish it came with maybe tortillas.. The carrots though were not cooked very well so it threw the dish off.. I couldn't finish it. They do give large portions but I felt money was wasted since it wasn't cooked very well.. My biggest disappointed was Service was sooooo slow. It took 10 minutes to get our drinks and there was only 1 other table when we first got there. Took another 20 min to get our food ordered and another 45 for our food to arrive..... The service was great though ...the staff was friendly.

Terrible to the point of comedic service. Food was either terribly bland or accidentally way too spicy. There is so much wrong with this place as a dining experience it's hard to know where to start. Visit last night was my second time in two years. Surprisingly the first time the service and food was pretty much awful then as well. Have no idea how they've kept their doors open to disappoint my party of four again last night. EVERYTHING WAS EXTREMELY, SILLY SLOW... Drink order? Took about 10 minutes to get drinks ordered. OH OH, drinks to the table, honest and easy 10 more minutes. Once at the table waitress did a fine job of keeping glasses full however, and truly she was very sweet. Food order took forever, and sure it was busy on the patio, and excuses were made about being understaffed. Fair enough, the management clearly has their heads so far up a dark hole that the place has no chance, leaving the crew that is there to carry the burden...Truly amazing it's still open. Incompetence punishing staff, staff without direction leading to incompetence. Moving on. Eventually food arrives, probably about 30-35 minutes, however it's the entrees that show, our appetizers hadn't arrived yet. Food was not even sort of warm, but served in that special "sat on a counter somewhere while incompetence ensures it's tepid and stale presentation" sort of way. OH OH... Back to the "Bosillo Picante" appetizers. Here's a clear display of incompetence, the lack of a real chef. When ordered the table received a warning of sorts that these Bosillo appetizers are all over the map heat wise. Sometimes they are a little spicy, other times they are really SPICY. Foolishly, I allowed this to slide and ordered anyway. What we received was NOT jalapeno and serrano filled. If they were, then they were also spiked with something else. I've eaten thousands of jalapenos, and serranos, etc... They would have ruined the meal if not served after the meal that was... well ruined already. They were extremely hot, NOT Jalapeno, surely NOT serrano, not even the good flavor of habanero. Just amateur heat, prepared by the incompetent, served by the unknowing. IT's NO mystery, CHECK your flavors, check your peppers, proceed. It's NOT a black art. Just terrible prep. Also Friends burgers both received a meh, and my wife's Camarones Aguacate salad was bland, shrimp barely cooked, and greens were just OK. All of us astonished at the amateur heat from the Bosillo Picante. I started to get a little annoyed. I asked for some Mayo and mustard in hopes of rescuing a truly bland lifeless and horrible "Chivito" (touted as the national dish of Uruguay, very sad). When the "mayo" eventually arrived, after additional buffoonery and 10 more minutes, I looked at the odd runny white substance handed to me and asked "is this mayo?" This is where I lost it. The response I received was, and I quote, "Should Be". "SHOULD BE"... Did you NOT just bring that from the kitchen? Had you asked for mayo? SHOULD BE, this sums up the entire experience. There SHOULD BE staffing enough to operate a restaurant.... There SHOULD BE a REAL CHEF or I'd settle for a decent line cook in the kitchen... No way this is the case. The food SHOULD BE served in less than an hour... Food SHOULD BE served at an appropriate temperature, by someone ANYONE who knows what is going on... However, this place is all "SHOULD BE" with almost zero "IS". OH and the mystery white "should be" Mayo? No idea what it actually was, but it was not mayo, neither store bought nor house made. Just some odd disconcerting slop. SO, in closing. I don't like leaving such a long LONG negative review, to simple explain how terrible a place was. But in this case, It simply is just that messed up. Two visits, over a period of two years, and same results? Not a coincidence. Other positive reviews I suspect are the results of a LOT of alcohol, or maybe just tempered Everett expectation. There is a scary cluster of horrible restaurants right in that block of Everett, You've got the laughable "New Mexicans", the terrible "Prohibition Grill", and now "Sol Food" to complete the triumvirate of terrible, truly horrible dining. Just a solid NOPE.

Good phood. Cubano sandwich was good but I've had better Cuban sandwiches, this ones a little dry. Definitely worth a quick bite to eat though

So. Food is ah-mazing. Back patio- perfect! Service.....needs a systematic improvement. We are here quite a bit, at times once or twice a week. Food is always spot on. But we end up getting frustrated with the service way too much. For example- we come in and are told to chose our seat. 10 minutes later we get a server asking for our orders. Drinks are forgotten, then made wrong. No apologies. Total time before we receive cocktails? Half hour. 40 from when we sit down. After looking through the reviews apparently it's not just me-great food, spotty service is an alarmingly common theme. I'd love to see owner/management respect the feedback of their dedicated customers and give them the consistent service they deserve. Please?

What to say!! SO GOOD!! will be back. Baja chicken salad was wonderful as was the Caribbean breeze cocktail. My dinner partner had the Sol chopped salad and she was very pleased.

That sandwich was insane! The waitress was sassy and got in a fight with my girlfriend. It was so weird!!

The menu looked good and appetizing. We had a party of 11 and five of us ordered the Lechon, two lomo saltado, two burgers and one jerk chicken. It took a good 20-30 mins to serve the food while the place was empty. Everyone who had Lechon stated it was bland and lacked any flavor. They all had to put salt and pepper. The Lechon was actually luau pull porked, not crunchy. The lomo saltado had few meat and the jerk chicken out still alive (wasn't fully cooked). So we had to send it back. It seems we've been at the restaurant for nearly and hour now with sill no jerk chicken. I guess you can say the service was/is terrible (still at the restaurant). No refills on our drink. Overall the experience was/has been horrible. Red flag. Real cuban doesn't serve lomo saltado or Lechon. DO NOT COME HERE! AVOID.

Sol is a gem. The Lechón is excellent whether as a meal or a sandwich. I recommend the chili releno as well. The service is prompt and polite. The drinks here are quite tasty too.

The first two times I visited it was at lunch. The sandwiches were awesome and sauces are good since they make their own - mayonnaise, etc. the third time I visited, I decided to bring along my friends for a Girls night Out (GNO) and the service during dinner was not good at all. Food was so, so and the service just took sooooooooo long. I do enjoy conversations during dinner but when you are out with the girls, and you order drinks during happy hour, they just need to keep coming quicker. It took more than 15 minutes for our drinks to come. If I am craving a Cuban sandwich, I might go back there for lunch - maybe!

Updated Review: My book club met here on 7/25/2014 again. There were no happy hour menus available and when I asked about the menus I was told they were being re-vamped and that food items were not on happy hour any longer. Beverages were on happy hour but there wasn't a menu available for those either. The dinner menu has also been re-vamped. Empanada's are not longer available. Prices have increased too :( ---------------------------- My book club group meets here on occasion. Tabs are split without a problem. All major credit cards are accepted. You can find free parking on the street. Happy hour is decent enough and runs a bit later than most other places, until 6:30pm. I'm don't care much for the happy hour food but the sips and slurps are reasonable. I get a glass of Cab or Merlot for $4. Most of the other ladies order the Mojito and just rave about it (not a mint fan). Whenever I know our meeting is here I cannot stop thinking about the Bosillo Picante appetizer for $5: thin sheets of pastry dough stuffed with grilled jalapeno and Serrano chili peppers and a mixture of cheeses (think cream cheese), then fried until crispy. Served with sweet and spicy chili sauce. Six pieces of pure spicy/hot heaven! My bestie and I always share the Baja Chopped Chicken Salad for $9: crisp romaine lettuce tossed with smoky tomato vinaigrette, diced grilled chicken, black beans, tortilla strips, red peppers, onions and pepper jack cheese. I just love love this salad. It's light and refreshing. ***Be aware that there is a $2 split plate charge so be creative so that you don't get stuck paying that ridiculous charge*** Our group continues to meet here due to one particular waitress, Megan. She is absolutely phenomenal. She's funny, real, honest and hardworking. Sol Food is lucky to have her. Until next time...

Disgusting and bland. They managed to cook a steak medium rare and it was dry and chewy. Service was slow and terrible as well. Never coming here again and save your palate and money, don't waste your time here.

Yummy food, awesome service, great drinks, beautiful atmosphere...oh goodness. Everything about sol food is amazing. I've had my birthday here the last 2 years. I love it. If you want a fun, lovely place to chow down on some yummy Cuban infused food, then my friends...you'll be coming to the right place!!!

The worst experience EVER! How the hell are you even in business? Taco Tuesday, it was my first (and last) time at your place of business. We filled out our order forms and then...nothing...we got drinks and that's it. No food after 40 minutes, only excuses. We drove to Marysville to Cristianos, a real restaurant, with real service and NO excuses. I am getting sick and tired of wasting bandwidth writing reviews of places that cannot or will not get their act together. Close your doors and save bandwidth.

My sis and I came here around 9:30pm on a weeknight in July, as they were open til 11 and we didn't want to feel rushed eating at one of the "other" hipster restaurants on this street. Food was great! We ordered a bunch of apps, and shared them all tapas-style: fried plantain with cheese (plantano con queso), some kinda deep-fried pastry puffs stuffed with yumminess (bolsillo picante), Gambas al ajillo (sauteed shrimp and toast) and a side of roasted veggies. The veggies were the only "meh" thing...everything else was awesome! Also had two Cuba Libres...total bill something like $50. Well worth it! Ambiance was sort of relaxed hippie hipster chic...cool patio out back, with board games and stuff inside. Service was great, too. I would totally come back here.

A wonderful place for happy hour! Very good authentic food. It's very cute inside and it's a nice switch up for eating out around downtown Everett. I just wish the last time I was the drinks were the same with all bartenders.

Went last week for a small girls night out. Intimate, clean, and super friendly service. The drinks were great and the food was better! Everything came out quick and hot. I would recommend this place to everyone! Will definitely be back!

While the food didn't taste bad, it is ridiculous how terrible the service was. One of the waitresses was rude and didn't even offer the full menu. The other waitress was nice and polite, but she was also the bartender and was extremely slow to get the drink and appetizer order. They took 25 minutes to make patacones when the venue was about 40% full. The entree took about the same time (churrasco), which is acceptable given the nature of the dish. Post meal, I waited for another 30 minutes to get the check. No one ever came to ask if I wanted the check during those 30 minutes - I had to go up and ask for it. The check came back about 5 minutes later, which is perfectly fine. I will not be making another visit, and I would not recommend it to a friend given my experience.

Date night!!! So we found ourselves at this cute upbeat place one Saturday night & loooved it. The waitress was friendly even suggested a couples' favorite & it ended up being AMAZING! My suggestion would be to try the plantains con queso! All in all its a great place however I wasn't too fond of the tres leche cake

Terrible service. We went there for taco Tuesday and didn't even get our order taken for almost an hour. My friends were there an hour and a half and still didn't get the order they place. It was about 45 min to get their cocktails and then they came out and told us the orders were lost and that they were now out of the ingredients for our food. Never going back again.

Been going here for three years, not often though. Last visit service was deplorable, laughable even. Waitress and cook completely out of sync. Meanwhile manager sits at bar with friend and takes smoke break every ten minutes----/completely out of touch with what is happening. Very strange dynamics at this place. Did I mention the food is awesome though? I hope they get it together, this place is worth saving. Please note, we were the only people in the dining area at the time. There was a couple of folks on patio in back. It was NOT busy. Whoever owns this place ought to be paying more attention.

I really enjoy this place! I love sitting on their back patio when it's nice out. They're happy hour menu has generous portions for decent prices. I had the steak salad and my bf had the lomo saltado. The steak was well prepared and the vegetables were very fresh. The drinks we ordered were well made and well priced. I would recommend this place.

My husband and I tried this place out Friday night. I was hopeful I'd enjoy the experience given the reviews but my experience didn't quite meet expectations. We ordered bolsillo picante for appetizers and the lechon for entrees (yes, we ordered the same entree). The bolsillo picante looked like little wontons filled with peppers and cheese. The flavor was good and they were very spicy, but when they arrived they were mildly warm rather than hot. The lechon was a nice sized plate with plenty of lechon. The dish as a whole seemed under-salted (lechon, beans and rice) but the other seasonings in the lechon were fine. This wouldn't have been an issue if there was some salt and pepper on the table. It seemed like they were a bit understaffed the night we went. Our server was the only person working the front of the restaurant. She was friendly but could've been much more attentive. We had to flag her down to get a second round of drinks. While we were dining there were probably 4 other tables, all parties of 2 except one group of 3. Perhaps we tried this place on an off night. We're probably not going back the next night but maybe someday.

One of my favorite restaurants in Everett. Just had brunch here which was delicious and fresh. It's really hard to find something besides greasy diner food in Snohomish county if you're not in the mood for it. This place is it. I had great dinner and happy hour here. I always find the waitresses friendly and attentive. The cocktails are delicious. During the summer head to the patio.

We tried it out for our first time Sunday evening. We loved everything we ordered and our waitress was attentive and helped us understand a few of the menu items better. We had Plantain queso, shrimp ceviche, costillas, lomo saltado and an Ipanema punch. I'd order it all over again. That was a lot of food so we got to take some home which is even better.

Pros: Drinks were great. Cons: Service was absolutely horrible. Bussed our own table. Food was not Hot in any fashion. Had to ask for forks, etc. Had to ask for napkins, etc. Service was horrible - did I say that already? Tip? Absolutely NOT. Food - well, 2 of us had the ribs. Which were stone cold when they arrived with no sauce or anything on them. Jalapeño coleslaw was really just a lump of jalapeño and completely inedible because it was so hot. Why not just a WHISPER of jalapeño? No clue. Sister had fries with steak on top which she said was ok - except it was all cold. Only thing HOT was my husband's chicken. I guess, given the service, the rest of ours sat while his cooked. Might give it another try because it is interesting food and could be great. BUT - they need to NOT hire friends of the family as workers and they need to fire the servers they have for inattention, i.e., constant checking of their personal cell phone, talking to the chef, etc. Everything EXCEPT waiting on customers.

I tried this place randomly several months ago while trying to locate some unique eats while in town for an event at the arena. I stumbled upon this place close by and decided to give it a try. My daughter and I split the jerk chicken sandwich and the Baja chicken salad. Both were excellent! Here it is months later and im craving these same dishes! I will definitely be stopping here again next time thru!

everything was very fresh. I had the lechon sandwhich and it was great, Meat was a litttle dry, but the flavor was killer, my fiance had the cubano sand and same thing it was yummy. Our friend ordered the chicken salad and she loved it and the greens looked nice and fresh, they run a taco tuesday event every week that is super fun and delicious.

Knowing what I know about restaurants, having served, cooked, decorated, bartended, and traveled, this is a destination. I just returned from South America, having enjoyed many interesting dishes, and I'm here to tell you, this place has style, flavor, and fun. Our server was attentive, accommodating, and informative. Our drinks were on the table within 5 minutes, our appatizer arrived minutes later, and we had a good chance to digest while waiting for our DELECTABLE entrees. My friend had the Lechon plate, a wonderful portion, and I ordered the newest Chicken dish on the menu, with sweet onions and piquillo peppers. Well rounded and robust flavors, tender and succulent meat, and wonderful portions. Sometimes patrons want what they want, and don't care about restaurant practices or policies. This place cooks from scratch daily, therefor, can run out dishes. Be disappointed if you don't get you first choice, but your second, third, forth and fifth choices will all be flavorful, and devotedly prepared. Will definitely come here again. And Again.

My husband and I love to eat at Sol Food! The food is outstanding, always fresh and delicious. Of all the times we have been here (10+) the service has always been very good. Sol does seem to have a more laid-back atmosphere than a lot of places, but we really appreciate the slower pace and wouldn't change a thing. This restaurant is definitely a stand-out in Everett - so far our favorite local spot for the best food! Be sure to check out the outdoor seating in the back - very pleasant and relaxing on a nice day. This place is a GEM.

We went there on a Wednesday night less than a half hour before closing. My nephew from South Dakota was in town so my two daughters and I were looking for somewhere good to eat, and my oldest daughter who wasn't with us had told me about this place previously, raving about the food. Unfortunately most restaurants when you arrive 20 minutes before closing will tell you it's too late to order especially on a week day Not so with Katie at Sol Food. Not only was she very sweet and inviting, she told us details about everything that was on the menu, not minding that I had asked since I don't like spicy food. Katie or Kate, was delightful, gave us excellent service and treated us like she was happy to see us and not about to close. The food was exactly as she said, very very good, and we will be sure to return. If you like a good drink, the mojitos were amazing, just like she said! Thank you Katie and thank you Sol Food for giving us a great place to drink and eat even at a late hour on a weekday night!

My friend and I were sad to find out that our first choice for lunch was closed on a Sunday :( So we went to Yelp to find a place nearby in Everett to eat. Sol Food popped up--my friend was especially excited as he loves Tostones--which they had. We walked in the restaurant and it was empty--BIG sign and red flags already. Since it was sunday and it WAS tumbleweed-Everett. So we decided to try it out. Bland Bland blaaaand! My friend was disappointed to find out that the tostones was unavailable on certain days. Instead we tried Papas Rellenas which was alright. I'm a biiig fan of Lechon, as I'm filipino and we have our own version of the dish, but this was extremely lacking and bland. The only thing that saved this dish was the rice, that was eatable lol. I think in total, it would have been better to just try somewhere else.

Came here on a Sunday. Place was empty which should have been a red flag, but the rest of the city was equally sparse. Service was immediate so I had good expectations. Wait staff was friendly initially, as well. That's about all the nice stuff I have to say about this place. The food was some of the most bland food I've ever had. It seems salt is banned from the kitchen because I could not detect any in the dish I had. The rest of my party had the same problem, too. The staff was also more interested in chatting with the few people at the bar than attending to us, as well. All in all, the food isn't worth the time or money.

When we walked in the door, there was one table seated inside, no servers or anyone around greeting anyone. It was very hot out, but there seemed to be no air conditioning working, so we wanted to sit outside in the back. We waited for a minute and no one came out to greet us, so we walked to the back and a waitress passed us on the way out and mumbled that she'd be with us in a minute. Outside there were 3 tables. One was finished eating, and by the looks of it, had been waiting for the check for quite a while already, and were not pleased. Another table was eating, and a table with one customer was waiting for his food. So, 5 tables, including ours. We waited for over 15 minutes before the waitress even brought menus to us. We finally got to put our drink order in, and after about 25 minutes of being there, we finally got drinks. Then we waited. and waited and waited while watching 2 tables who had come in after us and had yet to even get menus, get tired of waiting and leave. We watched the table that was done eating before we arrived have an argument about going to pay at the bar and eventually getting up to do so after sitting around waiting for their check for about 20 minutes. We watched the table who was eating when we arrived finish their meal and finally have to get up to request their check. There were several times that the waitress came out to do something, made direct eye contact with us and went right back inside. We had our menus closed and everything. A couple more tables came in and we watched them get their drinks. It was over 40 minutes from the time we sat down before the waitress came out to take our order. and when she did come out, she looked straight at us, and went and took the orders of 2 tables who had arrived long after we did before coming to us, and all she said was "Kay, what can i get for you?" I told her we no longer wished to order food at this point and she said "ok" and walked away. waited for the check, which of course, never came, so we left exact change for the drinks and left. It would have been another story if the waitress had appeared to be trying at all, or if she had been apologetic in any way, but she was not. It was really just pathetic. I work in a restaurant as well and I understand that stuff happens, you get understaffed, and have too much going on sometimes. But at least act like you give a crap about your job and the customer's time. This is the first time that is have not tipped.

Smallish menu. Service was just kinda weird. Like she didn't approve of our drinking. We like to drink. Speaking of drinks, they have a nice selection of "specialty" drinks (Pisco sours, mojitos). Could use more booze. The back patio is awesome and the Cubano is very good.

Everett is a total wasteland when it comes to any food that I would label as "good." So it was with a less than eager attitude and begrudging heart that I decided to give Sol Food a try. My friend/colleague had been raving about it, so I was curious. You guys, this place is utterly fantastic! Located in downtown Everett (which is cute, yet, strange in its own way), Sol Food offers some really tasty Cuban/Caribbean/Latin American tasties for the inner foodie in all of us. We started off with the tequenos appetizer, which are wedges of pepper jack cheese wrapped in pastry dough, fried golden brown. They are served with a zesty tomato sauce. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. I ordered the Baja Chopped Chicken salad (romaine lettuce, diced grilled chicken, black beans, tortilla strips, red peppers, onions, and pepper jack cheese tossed with smoky tomato vinaigrette), which I split with my friend, and in turn, I got half of her Cubano sandwich (slow roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, mustard, and pickles on a French roll toasted on a sandwich press until crispy). The salad was HUGE and absolutely delicious. I am usually pretty picky when it comes to being adventurous with tomato-based dressings, but I could NOT stop eating this salad. Just the right amount of protein to other tasty additions. The Cubano sandwich was really amazing and also large enough to share. I almost never order sandwiches in restaurants (because, come on, why am I going to pay $10 for something I can make at home?), but I have to admit that the Cubano made me love sandwiches again. Really amazing flavor for something so simple. The service was great, and our waitress was very attentive. Two huge thumbs up! Parking is located on the street, although I think there is also a small lot that you can use. It's a little out of the way from my office to frequent all the time, but I will definitely bring friends here. Delicious!

Service is good here and you can trust their recommendations. I've trusted their advice on wine selection and apps, both with success. They talked me into a chorizo stuffed squid dish once that was amazing and I keep hoping I'll find it on the menu again. The lechon sandwich is a fave here. Succulent and flavorful pork, crispy bread. Sometimes the fries are under done or soggy. I'd forgive it and add a star if it had only happened once and if I had kept it to myself, which I haven't. Regardless, this place is an Everett jewel. The back patio is a relaxing place to hangout and the food is delicious and a break from the usual.

My husband and I ordered the Cubano sandwich with fries and the Lechon plate and shared them. My son ordered the Escalivada salad. We had the Tres Leches cake for dessert. The service was excellent. Our waitress was friendly and checked on us often. Our meals took awhile to come out of the kitchen but everything was hot and tasty. The Cubano sandwich and Tres Leches cake were my favorite of what we ordered. Lots of flavor and fresh ingredients. I would definitely like to come back and order some of the other menu items.

I haven't been to many restaurants in Everett, but this one's definitely my favorite of what I've tried so far. I'm so glad my friend (who DOES live up there) suggested it! It was a Sunday afternoon, I think, and sadly the place was empty. The employee (owner?) was fantastic, however, and helped us pick out some delicious food to order. We started with the Sacchetti Fritti as our appetizer. I'm not usually a huge fan of fried things, but these were spicy and delicious! I would definitely order them again. My friend had the Cuban sandwich with fries (which she seemed to enjoy), and I ended up going for the Churrasco. Mmmmm. I do love a good steak! The steak came with some veggies and beans, and rested on top of delicious french fries. The fries were probably overkill because I was quite full when I got to them, but they were so good I couldn't really stop myself. It's too bad Sol and I are not located close to each other, because I can see myself easily becoming a regular.

Awesome food. I got some type of thing with tortillas and a lot of beans, veggies and I added avocado. It was really tasty. There was a litle to take home even! The portions were higher than average. They had a bar in front, but it was mid day so we ate in the back; which was fun. The prices were great as well. I'll certainly come back when I'm around.

By far my favorite restaurant in north Everett. The Bastille picante are amazing! Definitly my favorite appetizer. Mariscos Sudado is amazing. It's a perfect seafood saute of shrimp, octopus, and salmon in a garlicy tomato sauce. On top of the great food and drinks the patio is a nice place to eat on a sunny day and the staff is always friendly and attentive. Overall my favorite restaurant in Everett.

we were quickly seated at around 1:45 pm. for lunch. then we waited, and waited, and waited for our drinks, appetizers and entrees. recommendation: this must be a happy hour drinks and appetizer establishment. maybe salads for lunch. great interior decor. inviting and bistro-y and designed to take advantage of high energy noise level. two groups of business lunchers were leaving as we arrived. the dining area was empty except for the two of us. our waitress informed us about the availability of patio dining but we declined because it was so warm that day we preferred the cooler indoor dining. we ordered three appetizers: the plantain chips, bolsillo picante and shrimp ceviche and the chile relleno entree and the churrasco entree and the mango mojito. the plantain chips arrived nearly 20 minutes after we placed our order. we were promised that the rest of our order will arrive "soon". the plantain chips were well cooked although the "sol sauce" seemed to be the wrong match to the lovely plantain chips. nevertheless, i liked the sol sauce enough to take home. the chips reminded me of the chips i would buy from street vendors in panama which is a good memory. the mango mojito came out 10 minutes after. gosh, should the drink not be one of the first to be delivered to the table so that maybe there would be time to order a second drink? the bolsillo picante arrived at least another 10 minutes after the mojito. although the deep fried filled pastries were tasty and the peppers had a nice spicy kick, the "mixture of cheeses" was nothing more than cream cheese. but the price was right at $5.00 the shrimp ceviche arrived after another ten minutes or so after the bolsillo picante. the ceviche was not as tangy and limey as i am used to but the shrimp was perfectly tender and sweet and not over cooked in the in lime juice. the shrimp was a larger shrimp that was cut into bite sizes and not the teeny tiny "salad" shrimp. a win! we watched armloads of food heading to the patio area during the hour or more we waited for our entree. i finally went to check out the patio and saw at least 8 tables of parties of two to six. i peeked into the kitchen: 1 cook. the bartender and the waitress were double-dutying and helping in the kitchen. no wonder we were still waiting for our entrees after an hour. a simple acknowledgment and even an apology for the slow service would have made our experience acceptable. the good news is that it was obvious that every order was made to order. we waited in anticipation and baited breath for our entrees. my chile relleno arrived after well over an hour after we ordered. the plate was a grilled poblano split open with minced chorizo and some kind of a warm salsa. the "mixture of cheeses" from the menu was again, cream cheese. the "bold tomato sauce was....not. as you can see from the photo i posted, to me, it was pretty much a muddled mess. our waitress explained that this chile relleno is not the mexican style; that this is south american style. there are many countries in the south american continent but she was unable to tell me which south american country this "chile relleno" represented . chile relleno *is* mexican. it seems to me this dish should have been named: xxxx country grilled chile with special sauce with cream cheese. try googling " south american style chile relleno". the black beans and the rice were tasteless and bland and needed some salt. the churrasco, although quite impressively presented was bland. needed some salt. the fries were freshly made, but the vegetables were under cooked. i had sympathy for the single cook in the kitchen and the staff of two who had to attend to an unusual and unexpected lunch crowd on an wednesday as i was told by our waitress. a simple acknowledgement to us waiting, and waiting and waiting would have been appropriate. so again i ask this question: what's with these restaurants that will not put salt and pepper on the table? no matter how much the chef believes his/her taste to be impeccable, it probably is not, and if someone would like to add some salt, that should be ok. it's not like i am dining at the french laundry, and i bet there is a salt cellar on the table there. i want to to rate Sol a 3 but all we needed was for our waitress to acknowledge our wait. our wait for our food was beyond the pale. i asked if there was a short staff problem in the kitchen and was told that this day was an unusually busy lunch hour. the "unusually" bad day for you is also a bad day for me. this one bad day and how it is handled determines if i will return to give the restaurant a second chance. if service is a challenge then customer service can make the difference. the appetizers were at least a 3 star but the entrees and the service rates 2 stars.

My husband and I went to Sol Food Bar & Grill because of the other ratings others have posted on Yelp. When we arrived, we didn't know whether we should seat ourselves or wait to be seated. There's a lack a signage. We decided to seat ourselves. We waited about 10 minutes before a staff member acknowledged us. We both ordered our drinks. I had a beer and my husband had a Rum and coke with lime. The drinks were good. We found the waiter to be a little too chatty and he would get a little too close to us. We ordered the Chile Relleno's. When they arrived they looked amazing. The presentation was really nice. The menu indicated the Rellanos would have veggies inside. Mine had some veggies; however, my husbands didn't have any. There's a lack of consistency. The food needed a lot of Salt. I'm not one to use salt and I get easily offended when people use salt on the food that I prepare, so it if I had to put salt on the dish, there must have been something wrong. The restaurant itself was really cute. I'm not sure if we'll go back. The prices were reasonable too.

Loved Sol when I lived in Everett. Great staff. Great beverages, Staff even managed to accommodate my kosher diet even though it is not a kosher restaurant.

I have been several times with friends who live in the area, and still trying to figure out the allure. The service is always good, ambiance is lacking and food is mediocre. The last time I went, my food had clearly been microwaved. It warm at best and greasy, and this is supposed to be their most popular dish. It was a Tuesday night, and tacos were so clearly what I should have ordered. I have had better luck with their appetizers. However, last time the plantane chips were stale, cold and greasy. Good place to sit at bar for a drink. Food is to be desired.

This place is ridiculous in the best way. We had the mushrooms and the papa rellena, as well as the cubano and lechon sandwich. SO GOOD, we could only look at each other in awe while we chewed as slowly as possible. The service is also top notch, so all around a great experience. Come here!!

This is a great place if you miss Latin American food or want a taste of some Latin-Fusion food. It's also in a sweet spot in the heart of downtown Everett. It's busy in the evenings since they have a large bar on site. Great service, great food, reasonable prices.

Excellent! Everything we tried was delicious. The Sol sauce is outstanding, great color and flavor. We had some plantain chips, the Bolsillo Picante, some meat stuffed fried potato balls, and Lomo Saltado. Great food, good portions and a fair price. I can't wait to go again.

Try the bosillos for appetizer. The heat is 10x better than stuffed jalapeños!!! The heat is fantastic!! The lechon is different than what I expected. I am used to the Filipino version. This was was great but completely different kind of dish. The side of beans was very huge. The fries were outstanding! The lady says that they hand cut their fries so no more frozen stuff. Perfect seasoning! Had the cuban sandwich. It was fine except I don't like mustard and I could taste that in the sandwich. The dishes came with some dipping sauces. I really liked the green one which had basil in it. The other was with the lechon and it complemented it well. There is a back patio that is really nice. They give you the option of sitting there. The plants are spice plants and they tell me they get some of their spices from there. I thought the patio was nice and secluded from the general public walking by...Great restaurant. I really enjoyed the meals.

Great cocktails and apps! Super pop of flavors and a variety of color and texture! Authentic to what they represent. We enjoyed the Bolsillo Picante (holy hell hot!) and we were warned! Gambas al Ajillo were tasty but nothing too special - shrimp with garlic and lime with bread on the side. I loved the Papa Rellenas, you can always win me over with spicy tomatillo salsa and cotija cheese!!! Attentive waitress/bartender/hostess - she seemed to be the only one there. But where I thought something was really missing was the atmosphere. We visited on a weekend, maybe 4 or 5pm and the music did not fit the feel of the place at all...like smooth rock/adult contemporary. There was a football or basketball game on the flat screen (no sound) and you could hear a pin drop in the place although there were 5-6 tables of couples. It was just strange and awkward. Too quiet! After a couple drinks my boyfriend livened up our table but it still felt like a mismatch. Please find some music and turn it up, such a fun (looking) place, give it that warm vibe with some tunes! PLEASE! We'll be back when it warms up - I hear there is a great patio! :)

When I felt hunger starting to make me grumpy while I was studying, I was really excited to see Sol's menu and that they were just around the corner. When we got there, we ordered two sandwiches (cubano and lechon) with side salads and then we waited...and waited...and waited. 35 minutes or so later, I asked a passing waitress if our food was being prepared. No one checked on us during that entire time. Finally, our waitress appeared and explained that our checks had fallen in the trash and offered to "make it up to us somehow." She then offered a free drink but I frankly just wanted my food. After this, I thought that the food would be very quick, but it still took another 15 or 20 minutes for the food to make it to our table and, when it did, it didn't come all at once. First came a salad and then, after another 10 minute wait, the sandwiches finally arrived. When they did, the sandwiches were really good, I was impressed, but after waiting as long as we did to get them, I just wasn't feeling it. I asked to speak with a manager and found out our waitress was the manager. I tried to be really patient and just explain that communication is key and that we were her only table (other waitresses were working with others) so she should have just checked in with us and not made us have to take steps when the wait started to get insane. She didn't really seem like she wanted to hear what I was saying but she did apologize, explain that mistakes happen now and then, and offered to comp our meal, which she said was her plan from the start. Frankly, I would have been a lot happier and more generous if she had just told us that up front. Overall, if you have nowhere to be, the food was good and I'd go back to give them another shot. Unfortunately, the level of service I received, particularly with the poor communication, made me feel like this was a new restaurant where they were still trying to get the hang of the whole service side of being in a service industry.

Outstanding! For Latin American food, this place is authentic as it gets. I order the chili relleno, which is roasted Pablano chili stuffed with a mixture of fresh cheeses and grilled vegetables with a heafty side of rice and black beans (a nice change up from refried) and it's to die for! For a cheap appeitzer, I would suggest ordering the fries with parm cheese. Ask for a side of Sol sauce (the house sauce) for only $3. The hostesst and waitresses are very proficent in the happy hour menu, lunch and dinner menus. I come here all the time and enjoy a unique meal at a fantastic price. The restaurant is not afraid to add different and healthier meal choices to their menus. They cater to those with senstive pallets and offer softer varieties as well as vegan and vegitarian options as well. The salsas have quite a kick so if you have a sensitive pallet, I would suggest not ordering it. If you want to try something a little different for a $20-25 tab, (dinner, including an app and drink from the bar) this place is perfect!

I tried this place 2 weeks ago and the food was so great that I was craving it since then, so I went again today but was very disappointed. I ordered the same thing as last time so maybe it was a different cook today but my Cubano was completely charred black on the bottom side of the entire sandwich and the plantains were extremely soggy which I have never had the displeasure of experiencing at any Cuban restaurant. I ordered garlic fries but the server brought plain fries. Normally I don't care when mistakes are made but other then me there were only two customers so I feel like that mistake was just careless. The server brought me an extra order of fries but they were burned as well. I recommended this place to multiple people after my first visit but now I guess I need to update them on my recent experience. Its a shame because I really thought I finally found a good Cuban place since I have moved here from LA but I was wrong.

We went on Taco Tuesday after finding the places we wanted to go were only open for lunch (what is it with Everett, is it too dangerous to stay open at night for dinner??). The only thing we agreed was edible was the pulled pork taco which wasn't bad. We tried a few others and they were just weird. Maybe that's what the fusion thing is, combine stuff that clashes with each other and no one will dare tell you it is horrible for fear of being labeled "uncool"? But whatever they were, they were not similar to any kind of taco I'd ever had. If the only requirement is to be wrapped in a tortilla, then I guess these qualify. But that would be like saying I'm Fred Astaire because we both wear shoes. By far the worst thing was the black beans. We have had wonderful black beans at cuban places before and expected something special. These were the most bland things I'd had! It was sort of like a flavor black hole, not only empty itself but likely to suck any flavor near it into oblivion. We resorted to massive use of the salt shaker to get some taste. We liked the service and the drinks. But the food!

So, saw this place eons ago and wanted to give it a try. Of course....I ended up being in the area when we had all three kidlets 7,2,11months) with us yesterday, 8/15.My kids are pretty well behaved, so thought nothing of it. Cute lil place, we took a seat and as there was only a couple at another table and a guy at the bar, the waitress was with us quickly. I asked about a high chair for our youngest.....no response...so I assumed they didn't have them. Sent husband to car for his stroller so he could eat happily too. Ordered and our food was out quickly....which was good considering we were by that time the only table. So far, so good......and then I noticed a whole stack of high chairs when I took my middle to the restroom. That irked me greatly, as did the general hands off your kids annoy me air of the waitress. Overall, if you're a couple...probably a great joint. The foods good...lechon itself is meh, but the sand which is great. And my picky two year old lovvvved the fried plantain chips! That said, I won't be back as I favor more family friendly joints, and have had better family friendly environment across the way at Prohibition, even though they aren't really meant to be. A day later and I'm still annoyed at how meh the service was!

A lot of friends told us that this was an amazing restaurant and we just had to go, so of course we trusted their opinion and went out to dinner there one Friday night. The place is super cute and I love all their decorations. They have a wonderful outside porch area that is so nice in the summer time and perfect to enjoy some sunshine in the middle of the day. When we sat down, we got a waitress right away to give us menus and take our drink orders. But after we got our menus, looked them over and decided what we wanted... it took about 30 minutes for our waitress to take our order. We assumed she just got busy because all the tables were full, they were really busy and there were only like 2 or 3 waitresses working the outside porch area. But after she took our order, it took about an hour to an hour and a half of waiting and waiting and waiting for our food to finally get to the table...without an apology or compensation. We expected this food to be out of this world, extraordinary due to our friends reviews and since it took so dang long! But it was not... mine had no flavor whatsover. It was just plain chicken and beans.. so disappointing :( I mean yes this was our first experience and might have just gotten a really bad experience but because of that awful experience we are never, ever going back. :/

Never disappointed, service, drinks and food all outstanding. If you have the opportunity to hear Kristina say, "let me make you something" just go with it. A hot sauce to die for and sometimes the ghost pepper sauce makes a special appearance. Happy hour till 7 pm, taco Tuesday, music and special events.

LOVE IT!! Was referred by a friend. I will be back even though I live 775 miles away. Decor is great - simple warm wood and brick with colorful accents. The owner has traveled around the world a bit and has great photos of travels both on the walls and on the big screen over the bar in a slide show. Patio is large with umbrellas and has unique tropical graffiti style art on the walls. Now to the food...we had Drinks,Tapas and Dessert. The Bloody Marys were recommended by our server. Big, bold and had a salad bar in them (Olives, asparagus, celery etc.) We started with the Gambas de Ajillo (Shrimp in a tequila lime broth with bread for dipping), Plantain chips with Sol Sauce (this yummy basil cilantro stuff), Tequenos (Cheese wrapped in pastry and deep fried) with a tomato sauce and Bolsillo Picante which are these little deep fried pillows filled with Jalapeno and Serrano chiles. (Hotter than Hades and you will keep eating them cause they're so good!) Then we decided to have several desserts - the Flan was so good (and I don't usually care for Flan). The Tres Leches cake was my favorite. A dense cake soaked with milk rum and vanilla it somewhat reminded me of Bread Pudding. (It was so good I ordered a piece to go for my husband.) Also we tried the house made coconut ice cream with Grilled Pineapple on top. Also very good. I can't wait to go back to try more menu items. Everything is made on site and to order, so you may wait a few minutes for your food - but it is so worth the wait.

I had been to this place for lunch one time on a Saturday, but it was a few years ago. I do remember it being good though. Our Friday night dinner group decided to try it this evening and we were very happy with the tasty food. I ordered the Lomo Saltado for $13. It was fabulous. The beef was so tender and tasty. I thought it was odd to serve over fries but the juice from the meat really brought out the taste of the potato. The rice had cilantro in it and it was tasty. We also ordered Gambas Al Ajillo for an appetizer and we couldn't believe how tasty it was. The prices were excellent and there were a lot of people enjoying their meals. The only reason I am not rating it "5 start" is because the waitress was rude. We asked about the specials and about 10 minutes later when we ordered, we asked again about the specials (just to sort them out) and she said "I already told you the specials". That is NOT how you treat paying customers. If I ask you 2 or 3 times about the specials, then explain it 2 or 3 times. She got out dinner to the table but we felt we were wasting her time. Her tip reflected her service. Go in for the food and just pray you get a better waitress than we did.

My wife and I both work downtown and decided to have a small lunch date together. We decided to head to Sol Food. We were the only ones there, but as the weekday lunch hour rolled on, a few more trickled in. We were shown a beer and wine list, but sadly we both had to head back to work afterwords, so we declined. For food, we ordered an appetizer of ribs and jalapeno coleslaw (I forget the name of the dish.) The ribs were amazing -- they were so tender they practically fell off the bone under their own weight, and the flavor was awesome. The coleslaw was alright, but I'm picky about that sort of thing. For our entrees, she ordered a burger that had barbeque (?) and pork belly on top (again, I forget the name of it because of the Spanish names.) She said she liked it. Myself, I couldn't resist trying what was billed as Uruguay's national dish, the chivito sandwich. Basically, it was perfectly cooked steak, bacon, ham, and a chopped hard-boiled egg on a bun. It was amazing. Yeah, it was meat with met and meat and an egg, and probably wasn't the healthiest choice I could have made, but man was it good. At about $10-$13 for entrees, the place isn't too expensive either, especially for the quality of the food we received today. I'm curious to stop back in for dinner and try out some other dishes and sit at their well-stocked bar. Muy excelente!

I heard of this place from an acquaintance so I decided to come check it out. The place is nice on the inside, waitresses are nice. I ordered a pineapple and banana juice and it was warm. It seemed to one of the waitresses that we were there so long that she asked if we wanted our ticket as if we were all done. So I told her we haven't had our food yet. We finally got our food after 40 minutes. The rice was almost cold and no flavor. Beans also no flavor and the the only flavor on the lechon was spicy. I didn't even eat a quarter of it. Didn't have the appetite for it anymore. I am Cuban from Cuba moved to Washington from Florida and had the feeling of having a good meal and for sure this was a disappointment onMother's Day. I see the restaurants reviews on other sites are good but that's just because people from here don't know any better. One star because the tostones were OK

Being new in the downtown area I have been checking out the local restaurants and bars. Sol is only 1 block from my apartment and is my favorite find. Atmosphere-Looks like a hole in the wall from the outside but once inside it is averything but. All brick interior with wood floors and pictures of beaches and sunsets on the wall. Lots of candles and a outdoor patio in the back. Food- The food is Latin American inspired and very good. Cuban Pressed Sandwiches are delicious! Food and drinks are well priced and they always have a great soup, drink and entree specials each day written on the chalkboard. Service- The staff does a great job. It can be hit or miss if the food comes out right away or takes 20 minutes, but this is food that is well prepared worth the small wait.

This place has definitely gone down hill since my last review...Went on a Sunday evening. Only 2 other tables in use, poor ambiance. Harsh overhead lighting, candles on every table and hung on sconces along the walls yet none were lit. Greeted promptly but she seemed to want to be elsewhere. Inattentive throughout our stay, and all in all just a disappointment. Mojito was not good. I think I've watched too many episodes of Gordon Ramsey makeover shows so I tend to have high expectations now. Too many tables for the place, ugly banquet style chairs at a couple of the tables, mismatched from the others, weird hallway in the back leading to the restrooms that is packed with their overflow stock and some board games on a shelf..Operation anyone? I hope the owners read the reviews here, maybe the place will be saved.

Three of us went in and after 30 min of not even being able to ge the staff to make eye contact we left. It was busy but even a quick be with you in a moment would have made me happy, instead they completely ignored us. We left and went to the Hawaiian place up on colby where the food is excellent priced well and the service is wonderful.

I tried this place a few nights ago after a long day of working and I didn't want to cook. I ordered some take out. I got the Lechon which came with a side of beans and rice and I also got a side order of the plantain chips. The place isn't much to look at from the outside but the inside is nice and clean With a yuppy dive-ish kind of feel to it. The Lechon was tender and nicely flavored and was moist and not dry. The black beans and rice were good. Some other yelper said that they thought there should be a bit more seasoning, like salt, in the beans and I concur. The beans are a bit underseasoned and adding a little salt helped a lot. I love black beans and these pretty good. All together a nice meal. I've had plantains many times and I wasn't sure what to make of these. To be honest, they didn't have a lot of flavor. They weren't greasy and were friend nice and then and very crisp. The friend plantains I've had a sweet, yummy and decadent. Almost like a dessert. These were kind of like a banana crisp. The dipping sauce it came with was interesting and good. I will go back and try some other things on the menu. Good all around value. Food was fresh and I'll be back again.

We had lunch here today and in some ways it would have garnered 5 stars, in others, 1 so I'm averaging it to 3. The good: Most of the food was very flavorful, presentation was good, the owner was very friendly, it has a nice tropical feel as far as music and decor. The not so good: The rice and beans lack salt and there was no salt on the tables, the rice was clearly microwaved or something because both plates had clumps of cold rice on the edges but it was hot in the middle. The owner was too busy chatting to refill our water/soda regularly. I expected the rice and beans to be more typical "beans and rice" than what seemed like re-fried beans and yellow rice. Something more Caribbean would be better suited to the theme. And finally, they served my husband's meal with a salad that was just a bunch of bitter greens. Neither of us are fans of the fancy weeds people call salad these days, so that went mostly uneaten. A more traditional salad would have been preferred. Overall it was a pleasant dining experience and we will probably return. It's much better now than when it was Marimba. I really wanted to like Marimba but it just wasn't good. Sol Food has a few quirks but is pretty good food.

Oh tasty, tasty!! I've been here twice now and I'm loving it. I stumbled upon here by accident and what a good accident it was! The prices are pretty decent. The first time, I got the Lechón Sandwich. It was so good! Slow roasted pork, grilled onions, chicharron, and provolone cheese pressed together and nice and toasted on the outside of the French bread. I had mine with the plantain chips. I'm addicted. The sandwich also came with a their "signature" sauce which is some kind of basil-pesto, green sauce infusion, I think. I don't know what goes into it but if they bottled it, it'd be more popular than ketchup. The next time I went I had the vegetable sandwich because they were out of the Jerk Chicken (I'm hoping they'll have it when I come in next time!). This was good. I ended up dissecting it though because the focaccia bread was too think. It was soft and perfect. The vegetables were grilled to perfection. Again, I had the plantain chips and again there was that signature sauce. There wasn't a lot of foot traffic both times I went (once for lunch, another for dinner on a Thursday -- we got there at 6 and Salsa Dancing was starting at 7). I'm liking all the space they have, all the pictures of tropical locals and all the ceiling room but I wish it wasn't so dark in there! It was also a bit chilly and for a place to say they want you to come in here out of the cold and rain and feel like you've been transplanted in somewhere South of the border... Well... It's a bit hard to imagine.

Randomly stopped by to check this place out and what a great decision! We had the Bolsillo Picante for an appetizer and was well warned that it was spicy. Wow! they were fantastic! Plus it was only $5. For dinner I had the Lechón and it was cooked to perfection. Great texture and flavor. My wife had the Churrasco. The steak was a bit tough; however cooked correctly. Good flavor. We were impressed and will definitely be back.

Tastiest eats in Everett; ONLY reason it's not getting 5 stars is my pocketbook is still too used to more affordable Portland OR area restaurants. A little oasis, Sol's private, off-street courtyard was a surprise bonus. We split a tongue-tingly Peruvian style ceviche and the antichurros (smoky chicken-shrimp-steak on skewers), graced with some totally cool-looking, honest-to-goodness-indigo colored potato slices. Ok, they were the only bland part of the meal but plateworthy for their visual novelty. Washed it all down with refreshing, not overly-sweet lemonade.

waitress was nice, drink was good. As far as the food goes it was no where near traditional. The yellow rice seemed like food coloring was thrown on it. the cuban sandwich was more of a american ham sandwich and was not flat ironed on the grill like described in the menu. We were given tabasco hot sauce shouldn't that be illegal? Overall good environment, good service, non traditional food, the previous owners of the place had much more of a traditional menu and taste.

I've been to Sol several times now and enjoy their happy hour specials and Taco Tuesdays. I like the fact that they're an adventurous Latin restaurant with creative dishes. The taco menu can look a bit different each week, so trying new things is always an option. And they're not afraid to offer spicy salsas, such as they're excellent homemade habanero salsa. The restaurant is clean and cozy with its natural brick walls, and during nice weather there is an excellent courtyard in the back where a person can enjoy a margarita and some appetizers. Aside from the appetizers I would highly recommend the Cuban sandwich. I would give them 5-stars but have to mark them down a star for service. It can be spotty even where there doesn't seem to be a large crowd of customers. There seem to be plenty of wait staff, so I'm wondering if delays are coming out of the kitchen or with the cashier. I'm not asking for fast food speed here, but would like Sol to focus a bit more on timeliness when it comes to busing tables, taking orders and serving. When that happens it will be close to perfection.

My wife and I saw that it had good reviews and served Cuban food so we decided to give it a try. From our experience it was not very Cuban... The atmosphere - it was nice and relaxing. The tables with the benches have a glass top on them with a table cloth under it that was more annoying than a wobbly table but we dealt with it. The service - was somewhat slow for a Monday since there were not very many people there compared to how many were working. After our order was taken it took 25+ minutes to get our food which was longer than it should have been. The service was friendly. The menu - I was expecting more Cuban food than what was actually present. This is not a kid friendly place menu wise. We ended up sharing our food with my 5 year old. The food - My wife originally ordered the jerk chicken but we were informed 5 minutes after our order that they were out of jerk chicken. That sadly eliminated at least 2 items from their menu and considering there were really only about 8 main course meals it really seemed sad that they were out. She ordered the salmon instead (cant remember exact name). I ordered the Cubano sandwich ($9). The Cubano was ok, it was kind of bland. The fries looked overcooked but they were not in fact they were quite good and nicely seasoned. The salmon according to my wife was bland, it was a decent sized piece and cooked well but without much flavor. It came with rice but that was bland as well and not worth the price ($14). I was honestly expecting more after the reviews read but didn't get it. Not sure if it was just a bad night or what but unfortunately we will not be revisiting this establishment.

Not my kind of food. We ordered a sampler. Seemed like a lot of money for a very little amount of food. The inside is nice and I can tell the owner is trying to make it great in there. Tough location. I wont be back but just because I don't think cuban is my thing. Overall I would suggest trying it. Don't know until you do. Good luck

Lechon is so so, too bland and there were out of chicharron. Carribean salad with steak was great. I may not come back.

Went to Sol Food on Saturday for the first time. It was in between lunch and dinner so not busy. Service was good, but then again there was only one other couple in the restaurant so may not be the best time to judge. The appetizer we got (I forget what it was called) was a plantain stuffed with pepperjack and other cheeses. It was like nothing I have ever had before, very interesting and also very yummy. For my meal I ordered the Lechon sandwich and it was very good and flavorful. I also ordered the jalapeño coleslaw which is a great deal as a $2 side dish. It was delicious and very spicy. I put some on my sandwich and it made it that much better. My only complaint would be the beer selection. Only 3 beers on tap, though the Lucille IPA was pretty good and reasonably priced. My wife and I plan on re-visiting.

We have had dinner here 3 times in the past couple of months and it has always been very good! I love how there isn't a long wait and the staff are very helpful and friendly. We have gone with a group of 7-8 people. We started with: Gambas al Ajillo $8 Shrimp sautéed in a zesty tequila-lime sauce. Served with bread. Papa Rellenas $6 Mashed potatoes stuffed with seasoned beef and then fried golden brown. Served on top of a spicy tomatillo salsa and topped with cotija cheese. Purple potato chips $2 Yuca frita (four pieces) $2 Patacones (two pieces) $2 All was wonderfully fresh! We have ordered the sandwishes, soup, salads & Jalapeño coleslaw as well as most of the entrees - we try something new everytime we go! The prices can't be beat! Excellent!!! All entrees are under $15

I've tried everything in the menu in this restaurant. (Period). Food wise el Sol is a solid four star restaurant; Papa Rellena, tostones with the meat on top... with one particular exception, the beans. Also, another positive aspect of this restaurant is that the food is VERY healthy, no grease here, everything tastes clean and crisp. Two main hurdles await this establishment to obtain its four starts: #1, the time it takes to bring the food to the table (I've noted this to them before, hopefully improved) and #2 the execution of their dishes, you should expect the same food.. same taste... same temperature. Everytime. The staff is awesome and very welcoming. 3.5/5

The atmosphere was great here, sat on the patio on a sunny day and listened to running water from their little fountain. Pepper Jack cheese app was delicious. The entree I ate was a bit creamier and bland than I expected being a latin american restaurant, I expected more of a bold flavor. Overall good. My boyfriend's lomo saltado was more seasoned to my liking. A termendous improvement from the restaurant that use to occupy this space, Marimba.

I have only had take out, so I cannot comment about the table service, but our order is always ready when I arrive and the staff are friendly and efficient. The chicken sandwich was delicious, and the day I decided to try the Cubano, they were out of pork but offered to make it with beef instead - which I was a bit skeptical of at first - but turned out to be delicious. Love the plantain chips and the yuca frita - had been craving them since I left NYC three years ago and these were just as good as the ones in Hell's Kitchen. The Chile Relleno was decadent and delicious. I'm becoming a regular!

So- when we first got to this place, our service was great. We ordered off the happy hour menu and got these spicy appetizers that totally rocked. Unfortunately, that's where my great review stops. 1. We were charged twice for some drinks. When I inquired about the discrepancy with the owner, I could hear our server and the owner arguing in the back about our bill. A couple minutes later the server came out an was very confrontational about the bill. 2. The service took forever! Initially - great, but after 30 minutes... the waitress was pretty much nonexistent. One individual at our table ordered dinner... and it took nearly an hour to get her food. If they were busy, I totally understand... however there were 4 tables of customers in the place at the time.. 3. Food quality. Let me start by saying... the appetizers are amazing! They have these pockets of chili peppers and cream cheese that are just plain bliss. Unfortunately- when a meal was ordered, we had to ask for the sides it was ordered with... and then only received some. The steak we ordered was overcooked... so I give total food quality a C+. This place does have a cool courtyard.. however; service is slow, they are super pricey (even on happy hour) and the food is so-so.... Personally... don't think I will be going back.

Great Cuban sandwiches. Variety of traditional So. American dishes are tasty and large. Cole slaw includes hot peppers for a nice change. Starters allow taste of several So. American items. Everyone will find something to enjoy.

I feel like I can't say enough about Sol Food. My husband and I stumbled upon this wonderful place after moving into a new apartment building in Downtown Everett. The food is incredible. Service Amazing. And atmosphere even better. The back patio is the place to be. Wonderful patio lights hang over head, complete with a palm tree and mural. The surrounding buildings are brick and it creates a nice oasis from the busy street close by. You don't even feel like you are in Everett. The owner and server are wonderful and we have now chosen them to cater our wedding. We highly highly recommend Sol Food. The food is AMAZING and the prices are beyond reasonable.

We had a friend pass away who was a frequent visitor to Sol. They closed the back patio for us to meet, drink, eat and tell stories about our friend after the funeral. Thank you Sol, much appreciated.

We took over Sol Food one Sunday afternoon with a huge huge party of 30ish people. Everyone came and left at different times and moved tables everywhere. I am sure it was a nightmare for the wait staff, but we couldn't tell at all. They were very gracious and helpful. We had a wonderful time and the food was fantastic!

I stumbled across this place on one of my infrequent trips to Everet. I had to check it out, as I love Cuban and Latin American food, as that;s one type of cuisine in short supply in the northwest. Well, I found a winner. The pabellon was delicious, as good as any I've had in Latino restaurants in New York or Miami. Not sure who's doing the cooking here, but the taste was really authentic. I also had a perfectly made mojito, which completed the experience. Seattle prides itsef on being a great restaurant city, but we don't have any Cuban or Latin American place this good. And if we did, the food would cost a hell of a lot more. I'm was very surprised by the comments about high prices. Most entrees are in the $12-14 range. Where else are you going to get food of this quality at those prices?

Had dinner here last Sat evening, in the courtyard. The shrimp appetizer was absolutely delicious, a perfect combination of lime & garlic and shrimp cooked just as they should be, with lots of bread for soaking up the sauce. 3 of us split it but I could have happily eaten the whole dish by myself. I had the salmon entree which was perfectly cooked. The dressing on the salad was delicious. We each got a different dessert and shared, all very good. I had my 2 yr old with me and was worried she might be out of place. This was not the case, other families were there and the server was friendly and accommodating. Being able to eat outside in downtown Everett was great.

Love this place! Have gone for numerous dinners, Taco Tuesdays, drinks, etc. Everything I've ordered has been fabulous. Occasionally the service can be a bit slow if they are busy but the food makes up for it. Love it!

Nice ambiance, love the back patio. It's a little hidden treasure. An ample amount of love has been poured into this little building. I loved it as the Marimba but love it better as Sol Food Bar & Grill. The Cubano is excellent as well as the Lechon Sandwich. I'm going back to try other items of interest on their menu. They make an excellent Mojito, yum, yum. Very reasonable prices, good for small groups or parties. The secret patio behind the main dining is fabulous in the Summer.

Sol Food was formerly known as Marimba, but has made some wonderful improvements to both decor and food. Be sure to try the papa rellenas, they are face-meltingly good. The servers have been friendly and attentive. They make an excellent chile relleno, and the HH drink specials such as the mojito are great. The only issue is that the beans and rice need a little more flavor, other than that, we have always had a great experience here. I can't wait for decent weather so we can try out the patio!

Please?

Sol Food has a few quirks but is pretty good food.

waitress was nice, drink was good.

I really wanted to like it but the bun wasn't toasted and it tasted dry. If they switch to a new bread I'd give it another go. Disappointing.

Service was super super slow. Restaurant was empty for lunch on Sunday and it took almost an hour from ordering to getting food. Food was alright, had a sandwich. Good but nothing to write home about. Prices were good at $7 with fries.

  • Discordia M.
