New chef ! New Menu! We love it! Such a great addition to the Ellensburg Dining scene. I am so glad we gave it another try. Can't wait to see the great things this Chef does.

Hit it on a night with a sax player in the bar and discount on wine by the bottle. Great start. Kids got grilled cheese. Best ever; I'll maybe order that next time. We rate eateries by their fries and house salad. Another good start. Dinner and service was as good as the view, top shelf. Only thing I'll do different is spend some time in the bar and watch the daylight fade over the river. It can be a little out of the way for some travelers, but that put us in relax mode.

1 Star for special dinner cooked by Chef Lacy. (Name on her business card which we received.) Our group had arranged to eat a special meal inside the Lodge in the DR nook off the lobby. Setting is lovely, we had the whole place to ourselves with Chef Lacy Bender cooking for us. The meal was as follows: salad of mixed greens with candied walnuts (large portion, nicely dressed=A); entree: generous portion of stuffed pasta (don't know what with) topped with a tomato sauce containing cubes of winter squash (pasta not tossed in sauce, so it stuck together. Tomato sauce unbalanced. Cubes of squash overwhelmed by tomato. No cheese offered=D); dessert. Huge portion of pecan pie heavily-laced with bourbon and topped with whipped cream (85% nuts and delicious.=A). This had the potential to be a fabulous meal, but the chef seemed to take no pride in what she was serving us. Her description of the food amounted to a casual phrase as she set the dishes before us. During dessert, she put on coffee to brew w/o asking if we wanted tea or decaf or anything, and seemed happy to leave us to our own devices, saying, "I'll go help "X" clean up in the kitchen." It well might be that we would have done better eating off the menu in the Grill/bar rather than leaving it to the chef to cook us a dinner of her choosing. No one finished their pasta entree. She offered us boxes for take-home, leaving the cardboards on the table. Cannot recommend this experience. 4 Stars for the BAR. We did have drinks in the bar on 2 occasions. It is a well-stocked venue with upper shelf brands as well as wide selection of beer. The bartender was responsive and poured very good drinks. Nice service. No bar munchies like nuts are available, but you can order bar food quite fancy. What we saw come out looked very good.

This place has some of the best desserts. Tried the bourbon pecan pie with vanilla bean whipped cream. It stole the show, was so good that we were 5 bites in before I even thought to take a picture of it. The fried chicken was really crispy with very flavorful greens. Service was excellent and the outside dining area that we chose to sit at was very comfortable with a great view of the river. Hours of operation are a little tricky: Thursday thru Saturday 5pm til roughly 9 or 10pm. Sunday 11am til 3pm. Constructive criticism: Burger I had was overdone definitely not medium rare, onion ring on top too raw. Cocktail looked like it was made with a lot of love it just had too much ice in it at 10 dollars each, the handful of ice completely diluted the flavor of the drink.

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at CRG. The view is gorgeous and the food simply matches it. The food has a unique PNW flair and is tasty to the very last bite. The Crab tots are to die for. I had the NY Strip which didn't have a chance to make it to a togo container. My wife had the Fried Draper valley chicken which was just sinful. We all had dessert which just sent us both over the top. Great job guys. We plan on going back many times. Love this place.

I wish I could write a good review on this restaurant, because I've wanted to eat here for months. The facility is very nice with a large deck overlooking the river. Casual dining inside with a nice view. We went there to eat for a Mother's Day dinner with reservations. The server was very nice but I have to say this is probably the worst meal I've ever had in a restaurant. We were hoping to have a seafood or trout dish, but they were out of halibut. We ordered the Rock Fish and Chips ($18)with a side salad ($8). 30 minutes later we were told they were out of french fries. Mashed potatoes or potato chips were the alternative. 50 minutes later the salads and entree arrived at the same time. The salad was OK but the 3 pieces of battered fish on the plate were burnt clear through. Only a remnant of fish remained in the thickest part. The potatoes were luke warm. The server was very embarrassed and apologetic and I wish I would have encouraged him to look for another restaurant to work at. We left thinking we should have gone out to Skippers and very disappointed. It amazes me how much money can be spent on a facility and advertising and then hire such terrible cooks.

I will start off by saying that my husband and I and some family members drove 2 hours over the snowy pass to take my 81 year old mother out to brunch at this place. The service was bad and our food was not even edible! My mother and I ordered the quiche for $13, it was microwaved and like rubber, it came with five (really!) small penny sized pieces of over salted potato and 4 bite sized pieces of old fruit! When I pointed out the very small serving of potatoes, the waitress said she would get us more, which never came. My father and brother had the biscuits and gravy for $13. The biscuits were very cold, like they had been frozen and the gravy tasteless. When my father ordered two over easy eggs, he was told they couldn't do that, that they could serve only poached eggs- which suggests they were not cooked to order but already made. My sister in law had the eggs benedict and said it was very cold but ate it anyway as she was hungry. Her meager fruit actually had a bite (teeth marks and all!) taken out of it. My husband had the Turkey Club sandwich which was good, but the toast was cold. He also ordered a cinnamon roll that was never served. We were not poured fresh coffee and didn't have our water refilled as the waitress was busy watching TV in the bar! When I asked for a manager to complain about our meal, our waitress showed up to say she was the manager and she was argumentative with me about her service. She didn't want to listen to our complaints about the awful food and I doubted she was a manager. She told us we didn't have to pay and then she disappeared!! Needless to say, we were all very disappointed and will NEVER go back. The only person to fault for this awful experience is the owner. WHY, oh WHY would one spend the money to open a restaurant with such a beautiful view and cut so many corners on the most important thing. . . a good dining out experience!

Went to this place last night for our anniversary. It was great! The carb and shrimp tater tots were excellent. The wild Alaska salmon was wonderful. The service was very good. My only complaint was we did not have reservations so we had not the best table. when we left the better table that were reserved were still empty. When I asked our server about that she said there was a mix up and the empty was marked as reverted in error. It was actually to be reserved to the next night.

Worth the trip up/down the canyon road. I expected food to feed the fishing clientele. I got a meal on the patio that rivals dining in Seattle. I ate a crispy fish and chips that was awesome. Went well with the Tanquerey and Tonics from the bar. There were plenty of dishes to choose from, one of my companions had a nice burger. Had a great meal at a great spot on the river. I've been stopping at Red's Fly Shop on the Yak for years (since it was a shed.) Now there is a pretty lodge I can take wife to and a nice new fishing and shooting outfitter store. But the newest addition is this restaurant that is so much nicer than expected. So on top of a first class location on the River, great fishing and wing shooting, now there is high quality food.

After being told the wait was 15-20 minutes we waited 2.5 hours and left without being served because we had been seated for 1 hour and the kitchen hadn't even started cooking our food. We had to pour our own water and ask 4 times for the kids's crayons. The wait staff acted mad that we were there (like they resented having customers). They screwed up our wine order and we overheard that they never gave the table next to us their appetizers. The wait staff were so terrible and they made every interaction extremely awkward on top of blaming all of their serving problems on the owner. The wait staff also blamed the current customers for our wait time. This was such a nightmare I don't even think this review does it justice. I am sorry to say it, but just stay away. (It is also quite expensive)

Saturday evening 6:00 pm, Oh sorry we are out of this and sorry we are out of that. Decent views of the river if it were not for the Waste Management dumpster and parking lot directly between us and the diver. Good food , but over priced. forth visit and we keep waiting for it to get better. Still waiting.............

Such a cool place! I've lived in the area for years, but I never knew it was there. The restaurant is adjoined to their fly fishing shop and is pretty small. It has windows that look over the river and all the furniture is well made. The server was super nice and answered all of our questions. I had a burger and it was REALLY good. The meat seemed high quality and juicy. Everyone really enjoyed their meal. We visited in the spring time, so the outdoor patio was a little chilly to sit on. It would be an amazing place for happy hour in the summer time.

Service was good but the food was WAY overpriced and underwhelming! A beet salad for $16 is pretty ridiculous considering its small size and cheap ingredients, not to mention that they charged an additional $9 to add fish, chicken or steak... The other food decent but equally expensive. This place charges more than any restaurant in Ellensburg for sure. The atmosphere is kinda strange too. It's connected to a fishing/hunting gear store and had TV's playing loud sports, yet they are trying to be an upscale place... Felt like a overpriced sports bar with fancy napkins and paper placemats. Very very odd. We will never go there again for food, but might stop in for a beer after rafting or fishing.

The food was excellent! I had the special, a chicken breast with sweet potato mash and apple butter. The wine list was impressive but very limited when it came to what you could order by the glass, so either bring a group or come thirsty to get a whole bottle! Our waiter was pretty solid but the other staff where not as much on their game. The so-so service is forgivable, though, since the food is so delicious and the outside patio is tranquil and beautiful. We came early, but if you don't then make a reservation on weekends as it is small; this place is tucked away, but well-discovered!

I first heard about this...don't remember where, but in any case it has not been heavily advertised that I am aware. Saw it driving up the canyon a couple weeks ago, thought it would be a good place to check out with the family. Beautiful setting, outdoor seating available, overlooking the Yakima River. Understated, calm decor with woods and stone, clean lines, open kitchen, comforting and calming, no loud music. The menu features a lot of local produce and meat, though it isn't advertised on the menu as such. Everything we had was fantastic. The flank stank on my salad was local and happened to also be grass-fed. It was probably the best I've ever had. Granted, I haven't eaten beef heavily in my life, but there is a reason, I just wasn't called back by the taste. I would eat it everyday if it tasted like the beef served at Canyon River Grill. The tomatoes, greens, and lightly pickled red onions on the salad were fresh from the garden quality. My husband had the insalata caprese salad and the fried rockfish tacos. He raved about all of it. My son's child's burger, which came with bacon, arugula, cheddar and tomato, was polished off, as were most of his hand-cut, skin on fries. My three year old liked his chicken tenders, which were not your standard kids' version, and of course his fries, and he is a fairly picky eater. The waiters were friendly and easy-going, water was filled etc, etc, all the things that you would like to have in a restaurant meal and not have to think about. Basically, I have nothing negative to say about Canyon River Grill. It is one of the better meals I've had in some time, and I don't just love going out to eat--rather just eat at home where I know it is going to be good, simple food. Well, Canyon River Grill, has just that--good, simple food done really well, in an unpretentious manner, and best of all you don't have to cook it and everyone gets what they want.

We have made the trip several times since opening as the location is perfect and the food is terrific. This gem of a spot overlooks the Yakima River outside of Ellensburg on the Canyon road between Ellensburg and Yakima. Wonderful menu with excellent dinner preparations of Fresh Seafood, Free Range Beef and Chicken and a delicious selection of "bar fare" at reasonable prices as well as full dinner menu. Great bar and selection of NW and California wine. The chef's are outstanding-this is a fine dining venue but in an idyllic riverside comfortable setting. Definitely worth driving down the Canyon Road to experience. This is one of the true gems of Washington and is only an hour and forty-five minutes from Seattle. Coupled with a stay at the lodge immediately adjacent and a fly fishing trip........this is about as good as the NW gets.

I love to have lunch or dinner here. We always have a nice time. I like both their lunch and dinners. The last time for dinner I had the Pan Seared Arctic Char and we shared a bottle of wine and it was so delicious. I love the ambiance and the staff is wonderful. My son and I had lunch their on Sunday and we got their right before 3pm and the waiter was absolutely fantastic and knowledgeable. It is a nice drive and makes for a great time. The lodge has awesome amenities and the rooms are nice as well. It is so nice to go some where - where the staff is helpful and pleasant and are happy to see you when you walk in. So I recommend, you will enjoy yourself!
