I've been going here since it opened in 1997. If you're ever driving up to Seattle or down to Portland, along the 5, this is a great microbrewery that was once a bootlegger's paradise during the Prohibition. I think it also used to be a gentleman's club of sorts, that is, a whorehouse. Anyway, they've got killer pool tables, like 8 of them, including a snooker table, and a great jukebox. If you're grabbing a bite to eat, ask for Sam. They've got some nice microbrews on draft-- I recommend the amber. Shoot some stick and grab a microbrew, and experience the old North in Centralia, Washington, so-called because it's about midway between Portland and Seattle.

Worst. Meal. Ever. I don't think I can blame the kitchen, it's the waitstaff at the Olympic Club that ruined it. Upon arriving we immediately got attitude from waitress #1 who we asked if we should grab a seat after being ignored for 5 minutes. After finding a table it took waitress #2 a good 10 minutes before she asked for our drink order. Meal orders were taken another 15 minutes later. After waiting 30 minutes for food we inquired as to how much longer it would be. Waitress #2 replied (with attitude) that she was "slammed." There were 4 other tables of people, not to mention that there was also waitress #3 walking around picking up dishes and servicing the same 4 tables. 4 tables, 3 waitresses on a Tuesday night in Centralia equals not slammed. An hour after sitting down the food came out and it was clear to see it had been sitting under a heat lamp too long. Super dry salmon, dry hamburger...they screwed up my kid's PBJ for god's sake! You gotta try hard to do that & who puts PBJ under a heat lamp? I knew McMenamins was becoming more known for their long waits & mediocre menu but this was ridiculous. The table next to us even asked if we were getting attitude from the waitress. Apparently after telling her she brought the wrong drink, the waitress literally threw the drink on their table. Only eat here if you want to be abused by waitstaff and food.

Everything was going good and the steak was amazing until I ended up choking. Staff tried to help best they could and thankfully I am kinda ok. I don't remember much of what happened but I think we were all pretty scared. I was just sad that no manager actually showed up. But I did end up talking to One on the phone and once hurt feelings subsided on BOTH ends she did apologize. The tri tip steak is amazing I am just sad my meal was ruined.

Love the McMenamins in Bend but this place was awful. We sat at the bar and waited 15 mins for someone to notice us then 2 people sat down after us and got served right away. I don't mind waiting if it's busy but I do mind being ignored when someone else gets served well before I have been waiting for service.

Once we were about to leave one of the cooks came out back and we started chatting with him. He told us a lot about the restaurant and mentioned the passports. We went up front and got some, that made it worth it. Just wish we knew about them sooner.

I took one full hour to get our food. Nothing more to say. That is unacceptable for a hamburger.

This place has character, great beer, and great food in excess. My wife and I can for happy hour and while our waitress was very very busy she did not skip a beat and everything came out in the proper time. If fact a little longer would have been fine because it would have given more time to savor the wonderful McMenamins beer. With billiards, bar, and theatre I could understand how this place could get real busy and one should be realistic about wait times. I don't understand the very low reviews. Even the low reviewers loved the food, beer , or atmosphere. Even though I'm in town only for a week, I will be back.

My brother and I stopped there in 2012 on our way back from a road trip. We really enjoyed the whimsical atmosphere, and got happily surprised by the movie ticket complementary with the night stay. An interesting stop.

Fascinating old men's room though really smelly. Reasonable food quality, friendly service but painfully slow. Extremely noisy trains close to the back deck. Nice IPA.

This is a nice pub with good decor. The pool tables make it that much more special and welcoming to groups that want a place to hang out. I've tried a few different items here and the food is above average which gives it the four stars. However, the tri tip easily gets five stars. The way it's cooked makes it a great steak and one of the best tri tips I've ever had. The juices are locked in and the meat is very tender, which is normally an issue in most tri tips I've had. The Cajun tots with ranch are also a favorite.

Having worked in a restaurant before I know that you treat all customers with respect. That did not happen as soon as we walked in the door. There was 12 of us and we all agreed that we would split up to make it easier for the wait staff. They still made it difficult to accommodate us. So we all left. Fortunately we found O'blarneys down the street. Much more welcoming there. :/

Nice little quaint pub I came in around dinner, no reservations, and it was on first come first serve basis. This is a dinner and movie place as well as pub. I ordered the buffalo wings, they were well seasoned but the sauce given was a little bland. The service is also decent depending on who's serving you. I'd come back next time to try the dinner and movie. My friends who live in the area said this place has good food and it's fun to eat in, so I'm open to trying other things on the menu when I come back during another visit to Chehalis, WA. Will write another review for later visit.

This is a great pub!! Beautiful and rustic!! Great beer and food too! Also they have an movie theater which a MUST EXPERIENCE

  • Damian G.

Centralia needs this place. The atmosphere and decor are almost enough to make you want to hang out. The service is not great... I sat at a table in the middle of the place, watched 4-5 servers smile and walk by me. The food is alright. Good and salty menu that's reasonably priced. Nothing out of the ordinary. The beer is good but pricey for the glass size. Pool hall is nice. If you're an experienced beer pub goer you may be unimpressed. Like I said, Centralia needs a place like this. Just wished the service was better. That's a huge part of the experience.

Dinner, Beer and a Cider. My cousin and I had the Tri-Tip at the Waiters suggestion...and we were not at all disappointed. It was fantastic. Their beer, as always, was first rate. I have never been let down by a McMenamins, and wasn't this time either. Worth the drive off the freeway. Highly suggested.

McMenamins are usually my favorite and I love the Oly Club. However the service has been "off" lately and today was really bad! The Treasure bar, which I love, didn't open till 4, so we started our happy hour out in the regular bar. The server there was new (in fact, everyone seemed new, did they fire everyone and hire their unemployed family members?). She brought us menus and was pleasant enough. We asked about happy hour well drinks. After the discussion we ordered vodka and grapefruit juice. (greyhound). We confirmed it was a well drink. nuff said. She wouldn't let us go to the Treasure bar until we cashed out with her for our first drink. It was well over $5.00 for a $3.75 drink. I wondered what kind of taxes we were paying and she explained they charge for "juice". hmmm well, what kind of "mixed" drink isn't mixed with something. and we specifically asked about the well drinks on happy hour. (plus it had NO booze in it, tasted like pure grapefruit juice.) Off to the Treasure bar. Ordered another drink, same thing, this time confirming it would be $4.75 instead of 3.75 since it had "juice" in it. I asked for part orange juice since mine was too sour. That was fine. Get the bill for the next drink and it was $10.76!! wth! We didn't order food, and we had two checks, both for over $10.00 for one small drink. It was a mistake, she admitted it, but with the most surly attitude I've ever seen. They can't seem to even be pleasant about it, we had to ask twice for the check, they weren't busy and they must have thought we'd tip badly as females or something. First time I actually did tip low for bad service. And I'm a really good tipper, having been a server myself in another life. Just bad service all around. I hope these new staff get it together or they'll be looking for new customers. Won't be back for a while, maybe they will straighten it out. Sad. I love McMenamins and have been to every single one more than several times. (yes, including all of them in Oregon) haven't had this issue before.

Love the food, but we absolutely love the theatre kid friendly and super affordable. It makes for a good date night or a great family movie day! Comfy couches and food served during movie!!! Only thing is during summer months it is uncomfortable with not AC :(

The food was good. Service was good. Par for the course for a Mcmenamins. We did have 2 entrees we had not seen offered...an West African bowl & Jamaican bowl, both were very good. The game room in back was enjoyable with several pool tables and a couple shuffleboard tables. Wouldn't mind coming back.& staying a night and catching a m ovie in their theater. Overall pretty good but overpriced in my opinion. They do have a growler fill special on Mondays for $8

Wish they had a little more distance from the pool tables to the diners. But the place is very unique, well preserved history and I had the best steak ever there! Staff was attentive but not overbearing. If pricing was a bit lower I would definitely become a regular!

[Good] Creepy hotel, as expected for McMenamins. My husband thought the movie theater was the coolest thing ever. Both bars were were cute. One of our servers look like she hated life and was pretty rude to us. The male servers who work here seemed nice enough.

Perfect morning. Vivaldi is playing and the sun is shining through the skylights. Wait staff is attentive and the oatmeal was glorious. Coffee good too. Doing my work at a booth and no pressure to move on. I do love this place.

Came for lunch. Party of 3 enjoyed carnitas tacos, 1/2 turkey sandwich with sweet potato fries, and a Wilbur burger sans fried egg and buttermilk cole slaw. Cole slaw was nice and creamy with a strong touch of horseradish. Still finished it. As if all that wasn't good enough, I went with my gut and ordered a bread pudding. That would be worth a trip for me to have another. I shared with my dining companions but really wanted to keep it for myself after the first spoonful. I shall return.

Cool atmosphere. It's one of the few places you can go and be seated outdoors on a nice day. Best tots in town.

  • Robynn H.

The greatest gluten free pizza crust ever! In fact it was so good we asked the server if it was gluten free. She assured us it was and then even went back to the kitchen to get an explanation as to why and how they were making it these days so she could explain to us what was what. Excellent food and excellent service - just what we usually get from McMenamin's!

  • Amy S.

We have been here several times and yes, the service is sometimes a little slow and sometimes you have to wait for a table, but this time it was super speedy and they are always nice and friendly. We were here for the weekend, had the gyros, taco appetizers, Aztec salad, big breakfasts - extra yum, and the beer is super yum. Went to a movie, sat in the comfy couches, sipped some more beer and also some cider. This place has a lot of character - lots of fun details to look at, even in the bathrooms.

  • Scott R.

No problems here with the service, fries, buns, beer, or the rest of the food/place. Our server (Grazi) was VERY nice and attentive, the fries were the expected fries, the burger as ordered (rare), everything was awesome.

We usually love McMenamin's because they are very unique. However, we has horrible & rude service from Erin in the bar. Why would you hire a person to service people when they act like they are angry at the world?

My husband, our daughter, her boyfriend and I stopped on our way back to Seattle on January 6th to have a drink and also to check out the Hotel. We were not able to sit in the main area because it was Saturday evening about 8:30 pm and busy, so we continued back to the bar area that was closest to the walkway leading to the theater. We sat down & in usual form anticipated a staff member to take our drink order. We had to stop a waitress to ask to place a drink order and possibly order a snack item. What we encountered was a very rude, uninterested waitress. My husband asked about the beers on tap and she could have cared less. The four of us were the only ones sitting in the room adjacent to the small bar area with a few customer's. She took our drink order and never once asked us if we were interested in anything else. We were at the McMenamins Hotel in McMinnville Oregon in December and the staff was amazing, helpful and kind which has been our experience. After our drink my husband asked the male bartender for our tab to close out. The bartender had spoken briefly with our daughter and boyfriend who had visited his home country last year while teaching in Spain. He let us know that he was very excited because he would be traveling back home in a few days to visit family. We wished him well and thanked him for his kindness. My husband made mention to him of how disappointed we were with our experience and that had it not been for his kindness and conversation, our visit would have been a complete disaster.

Despite what anyone says, I really like this place. When you walk in, you're literally transported back in time a good 80 years. It doesn't just look like an old saloon... it IS one! And you can't build that history no matter how good your interior decorator is! When I come here, I typically only stick to three things: Beer, Happy Hour, and their dessert. I've had other things on their menu, but none of the food was good with the exception of their burgers (try the communication breakdown burger, you won't regret it). The beer here is good; however, I typically order something not on the menu but is something I learned about from going here with locals (ask for a Rubinator... again, you won't be disappointed). For the happy hour, I am addicted to their hummus (which is really garlicky, which is why I like it so much). I also like their seasoned tater-tots as they are EXTREMELY addicting! Especially with beer. The other things on the happy hour menu are good too, so don't hesitate to try any one of them. Plus, everything on the happy hour menu is very budget-friendly!! Including the beer!! Although I try to stay away from dessert in general while going out to restaurants given the fact that the dishes are notorious for being calorie bombs, the desserts here are both delicious and inviting. I recommend the black and tan brownie with vanilla bean ice cream and bourbon caramel sauce. I always asks for lots of spoons so I have to share with others at the table despite wishing I had the metabolism to keep the whole thing to myself. I've also tried their berry cobbler a la mode... it was very old-fashioned and really good! All in all, this place is very representative of the time period for which it was originally built in. If you stick with the items I mentioned above, you can't go wrong. Oh, and I should mention, if you stick with happy hour and dessert, it's also VERY affordable!!! Which is a big plus!

We love eating here but the location is probably one of the main reasons. The food never lets us down and the drinks are always good as well. It isn't the cheapest and the service is hit and miss, there is a younger genteman that works there that is funny and has great customer service, but with the women it is a shot in the dark. Also, if you are in a hurry or are expecting to get out of there in a decent time you would be best going elsewhere, sometimes it takes a while to get service, then sometimes it takes forever to get the bill, you can be there a while. The seating isn't comfortable either, but we forget about all that for the good food and the ambiance. I enjoy going here for date nights, the lighting is perfect for it and I enjoy the music they play. I would get the gyro if you are thinking about going!

My boyfriend and I stopped here on the second day of our bike trip from Portland to Seattle. It had come highly recommended by the guy that sat next to us flying out to Portland, so we had to stop. The sun started shining right when we rolled up, so we sat in the back courtyard where we could keep an eye on our bikes. The waitress was super nice, although she did seem a little frazzled and was always apologizing for not returning back to us sooner. I didn't think she was particularly slow at all, so she may have just felt less on top of things than she was. Anyway, I ordered a BLT which wasn't on the menu, but they were kind enough to make anyway...and it was awesome. The fries were also good, but I would have rather had some nice thick-cut steak fries with a big sandwich like that. Not their fault, though, I guess. Dennis got the veggie curry, which was a surprising thing to find on the menu, but was actually really good. We both pedaled away from Centralia satisfied and fueled, so I'd recommend The Olympic Club as a good lunch spot - especially if the weather is nice enough to sit outside.

  • John W.

My family friends and I have been coming to the Olympic club for years we love the environment and the staff usually we are created with friendly faces and fast service but lately things have not been so great with one waitress in particular she is down right awful we hate to even have to sit in her section and will avoid at all costs !! We were here just this last Saturday and unfortunately will probably be our last she is defeinetly on some sort of intoxicant/drug as she is falling asleep while taking our order often forgetting our order not checking back on us seems bothered by us often telling us her section is full when not or to sit somewhere else as she has too many dirty tables we don't feel that is is MCMenamins standards it's embarrassing we see people walk out of her section we just feel like something should be done !

  • Shauna F.

I came here for breakfast on Easter Sunday with my family and everyone enjoyed their meals. I had a greyhound to start with which is fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and vodka (very tasty) while my family all enjoyed bloody marys. I had the Olympic club scramble with hashbrowns and sour dough toast and jam. The scramble had spinach, tomato, bacon, and tillamook white cheddar which gave it a great tang that balanced the other ingredients well. Everything was great and I cleaned my plate. This historic old gentleman's club is such a neat building. I will definitely come again when I'm in town.

One of the more funky McMenamins we have visited, but a solid 4 stars. If you are younger (or young at heart) and are kid free, this is a great place for some good beer and billiards. That being said, we still took E with us to dinner there and while navigating the pub was a little difficult with him, we managed to find the back patio and our great waitress. We knew what food to expect having eaten at other McMenamins. I had the fish and chips, P had the steak with bacon butter and E had the four cheese mac and cheese. All of the food was as good as we have come to expect from this chain. To top off the wonderful meal, we ordered two desserts. Our waitress grabbed us the wrong one by mistake, so we ended up getting to try out another one as well. We had the peach/blackberry cobbler, Black and tan and E had the bread pudding. All of them were awesome. The only downside to our dining experience was the trains rolling by every few minutes about 15 feet from the outside patio where we were sitting. In the end, we had another great McMenamins experience at the Olympic pub. Special thanks to Caitlin, our waitress!

This was probably the worst service I have seen in a long time. Our bartender was very snotty and slow serving our beers. It went downhill from start to finish. We took a seat at the bar... and there was a whole 6 other people in the bar area. She asked if we wanted menus, we said "yes, please". She basically just threw the menus at us and walked away. After talking to some people at the other end of the bar for about 5 minutes... she comes back over and asked what we wanted to drink. We ordered our beers, and proceeded to wait. Since two beers should take about 2 minutes to pour... we waited 10 minutes for those beers. Then for some reason, she used a spoon to take out the foam.... now my husband said to me, "I wonder how many beers she put that spoon in, then into mine." Then the spoon goes back into a glass next to the taps. Finally, we got our beers... we decided not to order food since we were already wasting our time by sitting at this bar. She came back over and was complaining about how "busy" it was... yeah, a whole 6 people is super busy. Then this other chick walks behind the bar. She started to pour one of the beers and it ran out... so some beer splashed on me. All she said was well at least you weren't the only one who got splashed. Wow, thank you for almost apologizing. Yep, never again will we step foot into this bar.

Beautiful old building, nicely restored in a tasteful leaning-towards-baby-boomers kinda way. The food is OK, the beer is OK, the service is slow....yep, you guessed it, it's another McMenamins project. To be fair I knew that when I suggested to my fellow travelers we stop here for dinner on our way home after an incredibly long and tiring company meeting in Seattle (notice I didn't say boring because I like my job and my bosses can read). The fair was the usual stuff, my companions had burgers, I had a turkey san on whole wheat, it was good but the Turkey was all wadded up on one side, almost like a meatball-Note to cooks, please take time to spread the meat across ALL the bread next time you make a sandwich, your patrons will appreciate it. Note to Mike and Brian McMenamin, please change your fries, they suck, I don't know anyone who has ever said they were "The Bomb". They are almost always cold, lacking in salt or any seasoning for that matter, greasy, soggy and generally poor. Make some that are crisp, hot and tasty and you will get rave reviews from your customers.

Came here with a friend because she was really craving grilled cheese and decided on this place after our original place was closing. And let's just say that I'm so glad we did! For simple grilled cheese I was more than pleased. My friend got her sandwich with fries and I took mine with their Creamy Chicken Fajita soup. The sandwich was as amazing as a grilled cheese could get, but the soup was the highlight of my trip here! It was incredible! I was blown away by how great this soup was. And I give this 4 stars because of the food and give it the 5th for the service we received. The waiter was friendly, funny, and took great care of us. He was never overbearing or annoying. Great dinner!

I hate to give one star, but this was just terrible. We'd been in the area celebrating my best friends birthday , and he requested a Ruby Ale or three as part of his celebration. We went into it with the following expectations OK food, terrible service, and good beer. Thankfully the beer was good. We drove into Centralia to the Olympic Club, and arrived around 8 on a Saturday night. We had some problem figuring out where to go in, with the 3 sets of doors leading in to the restaurant. We found a table pretty quickly , and ordered beers and appetizers. Service was surly, and any question posed was shot down with a bullet of attitude. The beer on nitro pour was a "Stout" no not the Terminator Stout. No not any other stout, just "Stout" When my boyfriend asked what the sides were he was reminded that they were on the menu, he should pay better attention. All of us ordered burgers, they arrived, charred beyond belief, with my burger being more crunchy carbon then anything else. It's fine to serve Costco patties, (or sysco probably) but to burn them? We brought this to our waitresses attention, but she could have cared less. Dessert included a Beeramisu, a bread pudding and pear and brandy cobblers. We never figured out what made the Beeramisu special, the menu included no description. The bread pudding was good, the crumbles were really dry and hard, with skin on pears and no flavor of brandy. The location is interesting, it's a vintage building that's been refurbished and they've got some nice touches, like decor in the bathroom. They also have weird touches like a window into the men's bathroom. (Which my boyfriend insisted smelled like it hadn't been cleaned since the 1920s) In the end, the beer was good, the venue has interesting decor and we'll be giving it a pass next time.

I've been sitting here for over 70 minutes waiting for my cold turkey sandwich. In typical MCMenamins style, service is NOT their specialty. Would avoid for anything other than beverages.

I've eaten here a couple of times. A great place to eat when it's late and you crave a good burger and a couple beers.

The actual physical space is very cool. The Olympic Club is a classic, turn of the 20th Century space. It feels like it should be transported to Yellowstone to work as a lodge. I wasn't terribly happy with the service. I thought it was slow, inattentive, and strangely unfriendly. Delivery of food took an eternity and it wasn't terribly warm. I wonder if McMenamin's has gotten so large that the standards slip due to lack of leadership as one is farther away from Portland.

  • Bruce T.

Since I wrote my last review a couple of things have happened at this place. First the owners evidently figured out that, since they own a brewery, they could use the spent grain from beer production to bake their own burger buns. This may have been an eco-friendly decision, but it was a bad mistake in terms of the cuisine. The spent grain buns are dry, with a crumbly texture and simply not worth eating. There's a workaround: if you order a burger ask them to put it on toasted sourdough bread, which they will happily do. Second, they've changed the way they produce the french fries somehow. They no longer have a wonderful brown color, they're much chunkier and less like shoestring fries, and they just don't meet our high standards. We are french fry aficionados. The fries here previously were as good as we've found. No more. The service remains excellent, the surroundings unchanged, and it's an overall satisfactory place to find a meal. But they lose a star in my estimation.

On our way up to Seattle we decided to stop for dinner on a Thursday night. This was my second time a this McMenamin's and I wasn't expecting much after my last stop about a year ago. (Stopping here wasn't my idea.) Well I wasn't disappointed. The service and food were both below the level of other McMenamin's that I've eaten at. I live in Portland so I've eaten at a number of McMenamin's. Sorry I can't recommend this place.

I loved this place. In a lot of ways this was my favorite McMenimans. It's not as large and filled with activities as the others, but it's just so rich in history and original pieces. The bar was just amazing. My only complaint was the service was rather slow, though friendly.

Mahi mahi tacos, cajun cobb salad, rabbit red wine and some great ambiance! I've been here twice on our way to Seattle. My husband and I love this place for the food and customer service. Always very friendly and personable. We got our passports stamped and the manager and all staff were very kind and attentive. This is definitely on our list of places to visit whenever we're near! Check it out - great history, great food and great service.

This is the last time I'll ever try to come here. We arrived at 10:55 and they refused to serve us breakfast. They serve breakfast till 11. The service here always sucks, and they're really mean. My daughter wanted French toast....really? You can't make French toast for a 4 year old 5 minutes before you have it posted that you're open for breakfast? Unfortunately this is symptomatic of all mcmenamins now. They are sacrificing quality and service for profit. Bad move mcmenamins...you lost a longtime repeat customer that is going to tell all his friends never to patronize another mcmenamins again.

This is a nice little stop on our way north or south on I-5 toward our destination. First Centralia is a cute little burg with many little shops in the center of town which I would love to check out at some point. I would liken it to the town of McMinnville. This place has the standard McMenamin's fare and I'm not sure what this building was prior to the McMenamins folks buying it but it's a cool restaurant, bar, and pool table area. We elected to sit in the bar this time at the bar just to enjoy a beverage. The windows are quite spectacular beautifully ornate. The women's bathroom it interesting as the sink has so many faucets on it it's hard to tell which are ornamental and which are actually functional but very fun and definitely a conversation piece. I'll be back again because it's a fun and quick stop. Free parking just a block away.

This place has really gone down over the years. We pretty much love all the McMenamins, but have to give up on this one. Food is average at best, the place is not clean, service is slow. Love the building, and if you are just stopping for a beer you should check it out. We go about once a year when we're passing through, and I can't remember the last time either the food or the service was actually good.

I love McMenamins~ My boyfriend and I frequent here regularly. Sometimes to have dinner and a movie or for a beer and wifi. wether to view a movie or to dine only. Good atmosphere~ Great food. Good Happy Hour prices and the staff is always friendly. We love having dinner and watching a movie in the theater as you can do both at the same time~

I stayed at the Olympic Club hotel, and had a dinner and breakfast at this, the cafe/pub in the same building. My Portland friends seem to have soured a bit on the McMennamins 'concept' but I still get a kick out of it. As an architect, I love seeing these old buildings preserved/restored, and I like the McMennamins beer line, so it's an easy sell. The bar in particular is a great space, with vintage (Tiffany?) lamps and an ancient brass cash register, a nice patina to the wood. With the occasional train rumbling by, you can easily cast yourself as an old prospector hitting the saloon and inn here before continuing on to the Klondike.... The beer is good, but the pub food is adequate, and tends towards the fried end of the spectrum.... Next time I go to any McMennamins I might eat first and stick to the drinks. Service was speedy. The breakfast options were slightly more varied, but nothing to write home about. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.

Great place to eat, drink, socialize as it has the usual McMenamins feel. Stayed the night but can't recommend that. The $60 seemed like a smoking deal but I found out why when I was woken up all throughout the night by the train whistle. Each time id almost fall asleep there would be another train seemingly baring down right on top of me.

Doing much better since the management change a while back. Service is improving! Nice place to hang fun atmosphere great interior awesome plants. Now has shuffle boards in addition to the pool tables. Go check it out!

I was very disappointed! We were on our way back to portland from a M's game My buddy's and I stopped in last night to have dinner and watch the end of the NBA finals. I asked the 1st bartender if there was a room with the game on she said in a rude voice I DONT KNOW! So we looked around and didn't see the game on so I asked another bartender and she ignored me! And finally looked at me and said u guys wanna eat or what!! We left and went somewhere else. Normally i get great service from all mcmenamins in the Portland area. So this experience was disheartening due to how far we had to drive off the freeway to get there!

This place should rock but it's just ok. I would have given it 1.5 stars but decided to round up. It's a cool old bar and restaurant with lots of character which is why we went there. The food was just ok and the salad I ordered tasted like all the produce were really old & tasteless. They did have have a bunch of pool tables and stuff but the place was pretty empty when we were there, maybe it's more of a night time attraction. If you want to see the cool bar maybe just go in for a drink but otherwise it just wasn't a great experience.

Needs better management. I've always loved McMenamin's but was very disappointed at our last visit. We stopped in w/ out of town friends, wanted to watch the 9pm movie. Got seated, went to order food & was told that the theater turned into a 'bar' after 9p so our 20 yr old friend wasn't allowed in the movie area. OK, so we're escorted to a booth & a chair is brought in since there's 5 of us. Nope! Another employee comes over & says we can't sit there so we're moved to a picnic table outside. The waitress comes over & tells us they stop serving food after dark so we can't stay....ok, now I'm getting pissy. WHERE THE HELL DO YOU WANT US? There's 5 of us, not a bus load! She comes back & they'll let us stay outside. WOW! Thanks for the favor. The food was good but not memorable, reasonably priced. We go here for the atmosphere anyway, no biggie. Our friends wanted to purchase a couple of things in the gift shop & after tracking down a bartender to help, turns out the inventory hadn't been added into the computer. Nothing could be sold but 'HEY! You can order this stuff on line you know!' Wow, thanks for the tip. We'll return but there's an overall feeling of unprofessionalism & a lot of people not knowing what's going on. Disappointing :(

Nice local Brew-Pub. Lots of pool tables. Good dinner menu. I like the Ruby (Raspberry Ale).

Word to the wise: Their portions seem to be getting smaller. I ordered a (non-happy hour) burger and tots and received enough tots to count on two hands. Food is okay, but give them props for Royal Crown Cola. There are better places to eat around here for a better price, but then again McMenamins is more about the atmosphere and beer than the food.

What was once good is now horrible. My wife and I went here for an anniversary breakfast and ending up leaving after not receiving service after 20 minutes. The place was dead so there was no excuse. Further, the food and beer is disgusting. Wilted salads and beer that tastes of plastic.

I love 95% of McMenamins restaurants, but this one is a real disappointment. The staff is perhaps the most unfriendly I've encountered in quite some time. They were just flat out rude. Also, in a place with several TVs, you would think that some of the major events of the day would be showing (US Open, NBA Finals). Unfortunately all they were showing was bull riding! I thought at first that maybe bull riding was enjoyed in Centralia, but in talking to the locals that's definitely not the case. I will continue to go to other McMenamins locations but definitely not this one again. The manager needs to seriously consider an overhaul of the disrespectful staff.

I've been to a lot of McMenamin's, but only came here recently. It's a cool historic property, as are most of their bars/hotels/restaurants. The food and beer are pretty much the same here as at their other joints...it's very good but if you're looking for something really exotic or exquisite then keep looking. I'm glad I checked this place out...in a way all McMenamin's are similar, but they're all unique too.

Amazing setting. Original 100+ year old cafe and snooker parlor, tons of character. It's great to sit and consider how many people over the years ate and drank and played here. After that, you're in a McMenamin's, and what's true of one seems to be true of all. The food is OK, not great. It could be great with a little attention to details but that's not the case. McM's does not do a good job with their bread products, they are either stale or frozen. Salads tend to be a bit dried out and a bit old. The espresso was weak. But the food is tasty and harmless, and the service was outstanding. And the men's room is worth a look: the urinals are as big as phone booths, I'm guessing to facilitate aim if you're a bit less than sober.

  • Matt M.

Let's be honest, the food is not good and the service is worse. I don't go there for that though. I like the atmosphere and history of the old building and I like the beers. I especially like the fact that I can drink beer while watching an inexpensive second run movie.

Great place to rest and get lunch while on a road trip. Get yourself some sweet potato fries and a sandwich. Its the best, most honest meal you can get in town. McMenamins is to beer what Starbucks is to coffee. They democratize the beer pub experience. They are very conscious of the look and feel of their establishments. They generally move into historical buildings like high schools, libraries and theaters and turn them into bars. They make great effort to maintain the original identity of the building. That said, I would be reluctant to step foot in a McMenamins in the Seattle or Portland areas because there are so many beer pubs that do the same thing but better. But outside of the major metropolitan areas, nobody beats it. They don't even try.

I used to love this place. I used to stop for dinner or lunch regularly on trips to/from Portland/Seattle. I'm thinking I'm not going to do that any more. Service was so slow, food was 'eh' at best, and the used-to-be funky and 'McMenaminsy' atmosphere seemed loud and cold. Quite disappointing. The back yard patio may be the only redeeming quality that will persuade me to give it one more chance if the weather is promising when I'm next through the area. Otherwise, pass.

We were totally excited to check this place out as we'd read the whole story about the property renovation - the theater, the hotel, the restaurant - and appreciate what McMenamin folks do in terms of developing older properties and making something old new again. Very hip. With the muscle relaxers starting to exit our system, and the freshly inhaled herbal supplement on our breath, we parked our car in the public parking area about half a block south, grabbed the mobile blogging unit and headed up the street. We were so spiritually disoriented that we walked by the entrance about three times before we realized how to enter. Not their fault - it's pretty obvious once you step back. Walk inside. Totally packed. No signs telling you what to do. Where are the signs? What the hell are we supposed to do here besides not bring in minors. Walk toward the back and see sort of sporadic seating arrangements like they crammed in tables wherever they'd fit. Look into the big room and see five huge billiards tables, all empty, and occupying the majority of the floor space. "May I sit at a billiards table?" I asked. "You can't eat there," said one of the wait staff, hurriedly. "Where can I sit?" I reply. "Wherever you can find a spot" she said as she flew by on her way to the kitchen to pick up an order. Wherever I can find a spot indeed! It may have been paranoia, but we became incredibly uncomfortable and fled the building. Walked around to find an alternative, but no alternatives exist in historic downtown Centralia. In terms of funblogging facilities, this place was completely insufficient. We're not small-breed types. We need room to stretch out and set up our equipment.

Another McMenamin's property. I love the fact that they have aquired so many historic sites and preserved them. I don't quite get the other reviewer's getting a 50s-60s vibe? This is a history early 1900's building that retains the feel and interior from the 1920s. The woodwork, fixtures are amazing. Food wise it's McMenamins pub grub which is to say it's pretty good food. I personally don't care for their beers but I know many who do. It's a very nice place for lunch or dinner next time you stop thru Centralia. Instead of fast food or Country Cousins, check out historic downtown Centralia and the Olympic Club.

(3.5 Stars) Full disclosure: with the exception of the Washington Mill Creek installation, I have never met a McMenamins pub I didn't like. For the most part, this installation didn't disappoint me, although I experienced it in conjunction with the hotel/theater, so your mileage may vary. At first glance, I thought the place to be tiny, with just the bar and then the small table area by the billiards corral. But then you start snaking thru hallways and you keep stumbling into new areas to grab a seat, like in the new tourist pub, or outside by the fire pits. Best to know the lay of the land as this place can fill up quick - breakfast, lunch, happy hour, and dinner (we did all four, twice). I must admit that service is hit or miss, never neglectful, but (and more for the morning service) often bordering on grumpy (hung over?). Other times, you couldn't ask for a handful of more cheerful people who know how to ensure a never empty pitcher of beer. Food is OK, about average for McMenamins, stick to the simpler dishes and when busy don't ask for alterations as you probably won't get them (refer back to the never empty beer, and you probably then won't care too much). Do I recommend making a special trip down to Centralia just for the pub? No, but do stop by if you're in the area as you won't regret it. Have fun looking over the historical pictures and comparing it to today's restorations - they have done a great job of preserving the past. Regardless of gender, don't forget to take a gander at the men's restroom - those urinals are *insain* (there is a clear window on the door so everyone can look in). You might also consider staying at the hotel for a night or two and taking all your meals in the pub - there is a real groovy local vibe happening with a handful of locals/regulars that add a completely new level and richer color to the experience that a one-off visit would be deprived of.

Super cool place...feels like it hasn't changed in 100 years (which it really hasn't). Very old vibe with awesome food and drink. Excellent pub food with house made beers. The pulled pork sandwich is incredible, awesome burgers, delicious mac & cheese, great fries and excellent tots. The place also has rooms. Small, loud but just like they were as an old skool flop house. Shared bathrooms in the hall. Don't stay here unless you have a sense of adventure (Four Seasons regulars need not apply). As with many McMenimans there is a cool theater filled with old stuffed chairs and sofas so you can eat and drink slouched in comfort...just like at home. This is our regular lunch stop on the way to Portland...exactly half way.

Love the setting in this historic building. The old pictures and articles on the wall present the history of the Olympic Club very thoroughly. The Billiard Hall looked like a lot of fun too. Went in with the kids since it is always pure bliss to find a place to get goof handcrafted beer that also welcomes the way under 21 crowd. The quality of food for the very inexpensive prices was amazing. We liked it so much for dinner that we returned for lunch the next day before taking the kids on the Chehalis steam train ride. Good pub food in a history rich environment. I'll have to check out the movie, billiards, and hotel part some time.

I can't wait to find more McMenamin's, even the music was good. The food was just okay, but it's worth it to see the building. As far as I can tell, they take historic buildings and renovate them to be modern but still echo the past. Their website says "Several of the McMenamins' businesses are long-storied structures honored by their inclusion on the National Historic Register". Which doesn't surprise me, this building was amazing.

It's called the Olympic Club and if you happen to find yourself residing in the purgatory that is Centralia, this is the only respite. Hammerhead is in my top five for pale ales.

Just like any other McMenamin's. The unials in the bathroom are very unique in this day and age--I think they are original to the hotel--worth a look. Lot's of freight trains going by in the back.

This was our second try at the Oly club...the first was an extremely below standard fish & chip dinner a few months ago....so okay, maybe a bad day for the cooks, so we like to antique shop and afterward thought we would give them another try and we ordered the deluxe flame broiled burger....oh my gosh...what a disappointment. It was a rubbery frozen patty, very tough,no flavor and the fries were below average. No third chance for this place.

Was going to see The Expendables. When i got into town, I had just missed the train stop for Olympia. I had been contemplating seeing the Olympic Peninsula, except wound up here. Bleak and desolate, I was so discouraged. i was wondering around, like WTF? But then I saw the Beautiful and wonderful Centralia College, and I was like...man o man..this is sooo neat. I kept walking and saw a Billboard showing The Expendables. I was like, oh my GOSH! I'm going! I strolled inside, and it was fantastic! The antiquated phone booth and entrance into the Mens Bathroom were so awesome! Big pipes going throughout the facility and a killer menu. Its not a place I'de want to stay for too long, but a decent escape from the Seattle area....when exhausted.

The food, atmosphere, and service was great. It's a typical McMenamins establishment with care given to the pool hall history of the building. Be sure to try one of their fun cocktails!

Fantastic setting with wonderful polished, carved moldings with gorgeous pool tables and furniture. There is a lot of space, giving a person a lot of room to wander around and enjoy the 50s-60s vibe of this place. The cast iron stove and tall-backed chairs lend a nice touch to the homey, laid back, small-town atmosphere. I read a review of the breakfasts here that was pretty unfair. I had an omlette at this place that knocked my frickin' socks off! The bourbon selection is wonderful, and the beer is fantastic. If you have spare time on the way to Seattle or Portland, stop in Centralia and give this place a shot. As a bonus, you can get a cheap room at this place for around $60, so it's a safe alternative to a lot of places (get blasted then just wander upstairs to bed).

Nice setting in downtown Chehalis. The pub menu is going to be awful familiar if you are a McMenamin regular, but I usually approach it as, "what food do I want to accompany this awesome beer?" Lots of interesting restored touches and nice nooks/crannies. Movies are cheap and you can indeed have beer with your movie.

Very much wanted to like the food here, alas there were problems. Stayed this past weekend with one of their packages ($50 dinner credit, $20 breakfast credit). My wife and I were staying the night, but invited the inlaws to dinner. Had the onion rings for an appetizer and they were good. Dinner took quite a while to arrive and when it did one of our party was forgotten. Another 15 minutes to get their meal. Much of the time our dinner was delayed must have been spent under the heat lamp as everything (steaks, burgers and wraps) was "warm". It was also dried out and things like the mashed potatoes had a nice film on them. The flour tortilla wrapping the "wraps" were crunchy they were so dried out. We do like the ambiance and the Ruby beer, but we won't be going back again. Too bad, the McMenamins restaurant at the Kennedy school we stayed at last year seemed to have things much more together in the kitchen.

This place makes you feel like you are walking onto the stage set of a play. We walked through a little pool hall like area to get to the seating area to eat. The place hardly seems real as you sit in the dark handsome bar or in the booth at a table. You can't help, but to look around and feel like you've been transported to the time period as there are signs that still remain that don't allow women in and all the decor of the old gas fireplace. The bathroom was ridiculous! There were so many knobs and faucets around the sink that it was hard to tell which was the real one to use. I can imagine that this would really suck if you were drunk. Maybe some people aren't washing their hands afterwards, either. Our waitress was pretty cool. We had the wings that were very mediocre here. They were kind of dry, and not very spicy at all. My burger was kind of average as well. I wasn't wowed. I did appreciate the bread pudding dessert. This is a place though that you come for the beers.

Meh indeed. Wife and I went there and were underwhelmed. Service was dodgy and the food out of sorts compared to other McMenimands we've been to. How do you mess up Macaroni and cheese? Since we both ordered it, we were bummed when both dishes came all curdled and ...yuck. We did play some billiards and I had a terminator, but the food was a letdown for us. Good thing the wife didn't use the mens restroom, she'd have bolted in a heartbeat. Some serious funky stuff goin on in there, I understand the desire to preserve heritage but there were fixtures in there that had "build up" that turned the stomach.

Our passport brought us to this Mcmenamins. Food was delicious, really enjoyed the crab fondue and steamer clams along with the beer flight. Its neat that all the mcmenamins have beers crafted just for that location. Our waiter was very pleasant and helpful with suggestions of beer choices. We would definitely visit again.

Boo. I love the hotel here. I've had generally good experiences at the movie theater and also late night in the restaurant, but my most recent experience to celebrate a family birthday was really a let down. Our party of 6 sat outside where one server tried (unsuccessfully, imo) to manage all the tables for most of our time there. Our drink order (beers and soft drinks) took way too long, placing an order was equally time consuming, and by the time our food arrived (an hour later) everyone had empty drinks. We asked the woman who brought our food if she could get us some refills and she said she'd let our server know to be right over. Right over didn't happen. When he finally did take a refill order my simple request for water took so long I actually asked another server (who came out to help and was refilling another table's waters with a pitcher) if she could fill up my empty beer glass- I needed something to drink with my spicy food! Food was ok but not the quality I've come to expect from a McMenamins establishment. Husband's fried fish was nearly overcooked (extra crispy to put it nicely), daughter's corn dogs were the same. Another member of my family commented his potatoes were lukewarm as was the soup from a 4th person's meal. We feared asking for correction after waiting over an hour for our food would only lead to more waiting (and we had two kids growing more restless by the minute) so we ate what was decent and left the rest. Bummer for a birthday celebration. :-(

My girlfriend and I went in last weekend 7/19. It was kinda busy but still didn't seem crowded. We walked in and all the staff just walked by us they said "excuse me" but not a single offer to help. We looked around for a few minutes then decided to stand up front. Finally a waitress came up to us and asked if we were looking for a seat. We said yes so she straightened her stance up looked around and said "nope" outside". We felt very unwelcome and being a fan of Mcmenamins establishments I was very dissatisfied.

One star away from four due to sketchy service. Nice, yes but absent more often then not and I'll take promptness over "courtesy" any day. Also a few other "oddities" such as the waitress telling me there was not clam juice in the bloody mary but my allergy symptoms said otherwise. To be fair, she might have been telling the truth but reacted as if I told her the sky was blue. Just awkward.... The food, ok the food was good. Maybe it was just a refreshing change from the hot garbage we ate the prior 24 hours (at Great Wolf lodge) but definitely some nice gourmet touches. Another awkward moment when I asked to sub an item for bacon and the waitress made sure I knew there would be an upcharge. As if I was trying to get a freebie and not simply wanting to customize. OCP's character is a big redeemer, I will admit, which (as my friend gushed about in absorbent detail) renovates old establishments, keeping many of the old fixtures. Maaaaybbeee good enough to go back in conjunction with a GWL trip (or to the Centrailia outlets) and maaaybeee good enough to check out when they open in Bothell this summer.... but probably not.

We were in town again for a couple of weeks and made quite a few stops to the oly club. Things really improved since our last visits. The staff was fast and the food was consistent. We had a bit of everything from pizzas to full dinners. The vegetables and potatoes were well executed on the full dinners. The ale marinated tri tip definitely tasted of the beer (I forgot I didn't really like that flavor and that is why I don't cook with beer anymore but that is my problem not theirs - I still cleaned my plate). The veggie and omnivore pizzas are great, a hit with the whole family. I did a few breakfasts at the Oly Club also. The hashbrowns were always crisp and the marion berry jam kept me coming back for more. After a few breakfast visits the wait staff loosened up and we had some nice conversation. the men's rooms are still the fowlest smelling bathrooms I have been in, including outhouses but I hear that the ladies room is beautiful and clean.

We're McMenamins passport owners and that's what brought us to this one. The atmosphere is really neat. They preserved the old Olympic Club and have great photos and articles about it as decoration around the place. We came at breakfast and it was really good! I had biscuits and gravy while the hubby had a scramble of spinach, white cheddar and bacon. We shared breakfasts because they were that good. Our daughter loved the eggs and she's a picky egg girl. The restaurant was very accommodating of our energetic little girl and didn't mind the shrieks of excitement she was having. They also had a great variety of games to play which helped keep her occupied. They let us take some crayons and paper for the road thankfully since we were road tripping. If you're in the area this place is definitely worth a stop!

I've been to several McMenamin locations and they never disappoint. There is an abundance of unique features and history with most of their locations. The cajun tots are delish and I love the fresh squeezed fruit... Greyhounds are amazing!! The staff was friendly and attentive! There's always a good time to be had at McMenamins!

At first glance, this looks like a 100 year old dive bar. From the narrow restaurant/pool hall entrance to the side, "bar" entrance - this place is stuck in 1903 - and that's not necessarily a bad thing. The pool/bocce hall is awesome - large, open, airy, with a beautiful sunlight/atrium thing going on in the middle (see pic); the bar food is, well, bar food - we got salads that were hearty and delicious, I especially loved that the chicken and boiled egg on my salad were warm. Hummus starter and kid mac & cheese rounded out the food. But the reason we found this place was because of the beer - it's called McMenamins and from the IPA, winter ale, all the way down to their lager - they are all delicious. A smart guy always keeps an empty growler in his car for these occasions and this one was right on the money. The only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is because it felt like it hadn't been dusted since 1903 (slight exaggeration). Oh and for the dudes - you have to check out the original urinals - they are unreal.

Great food, comfortable atmosphere and friendly staff! When they're busy service can be sort of slow but it's a good place to go. The theater is awesome too, I'd definitely recommend catching a show there sometime. Oh and the Ruby beer is devine!

  • Rob H.

I really would love to give this place a better review. The building has been restored to its original look and is beautiful. The biggest issue I have is that the service and food is very inconsistent. I have had great meals here and had times where I never received my meal because the kitchen lost my order. The same is true on the service -- sometimes great and sometimes nonexistent. I wish they could get it together.

Simply awesome! Great staff, delicious food, quick service. Bartenders are hilarious :) we'd never been to centrailia before and if it wasn't for this Mcmenamins location we would probably never consider coming back, there's not much to do in this small town entertainment wise, so it was nice to have a cool spot to stay the night and have some fun

Amazing as usual! This location is not close to any other one so I thought I'd try it out. I asked for a terminator stout milkshake and even though they don't have it on their menu, rose was kind enough to make just one for me! Made my night and I will come again! Thanks rose! They are patient, and don't rush us ever. Food is always great! Pizza is great as well!

My wife and i love dive bar style restaurants. We often frequent Dirty Oscars in Tacoma. We have been to about 3-4 different McMenamins (olympic club, spurs, key arena, and 1 or 2 in portland). I thoroughly love McMenamins. We have been to Olympic club twice. Once for a beerfest and once for fun. I will say i was shocked to see the star level being so low, but after reading some of the reviews I can agree with some of the points. Overall I would give a 4 star for the food, beer, and whiskeys (McMenamins Distilled) alone. This last trip I had the cuban and an IPA, my wife had the salmon and a sour mixed drink. We also had the caramel tart for desert. Overall we spent about $60.00 which is pricey, but normal for about once a month trips. The cuban was amazing. Had a similar spice as horse radish that burns the sinuses and I loved it. My wife loved the salmon. The food is always amazing. A couple negatives: - Read a review that mentioned the mens bathroom. I can only echo this. That bathroom smells terrible and feels gross, plus is a bit too small for more that 2 people. - Service: I would say overall it was really good, but at the end of the night my dad paid in cash and the guy took about 20 minutes to get back to us. I think he thought the change was his tip, but my dad tried to flag him down like 3 or 4 times without success. - Lighting my god its dark in there. So dark. Its a cool atmosphere, but its so poorly lit. I think these few negatives do not out way the amazing food and beer. Building is old, but this is pretty normal for McMenamins. I would suggest for sure!!

I love the patio area on a sunny day! Also the Jamaican bowl with chicken so delicious. I also tried the cherry hard cider, and that was just perfect too!

AVOID! Awful experience! After the front door slammed into my back and knocked the wind outta me we were not greeted at all. Bartender was very rude and ruined my passport with upside down stamp after I pretty much had to beg for my stamp. Food was cold and took forever. McMenamins management would shake their heads at this location

Stayed the night in the hotel above with some friends during a family get together. Everyone enjoyed the rooms, the properties history and our night of pool playing at the pub. This place is a great reason to visit Centralia!

My family and I visitied Centralia for antique shopping and stumbled upon this restaurant. Our waitress was so kind, but she dropped our food so it came a little later than expected. I had the best macaroni and cheese here though. Seriously. This is an opportunity for INCREDIBLE mac and cheese.
