The slowest restaurant ever... even with only four other tables, prepare to wait 15 minutes for a beer or 20 for a marg. The salsa is the most gringo crap you've ever had...and they're very stingy with their "hot sauce" as they only give it to you in little tiny dishes. Other than being mild, this food is actually quite good. Vegan tacos on the menu, which is always a plus. Chile relleno was quite exceptional, actually. Beautiful decor, nice music, lovely town. If you don't like real spicy food and want a relaxing slow paced experience, COME HERE!

Last couple visits here is why I'm updating my rating. The tables outside were pretty filthy, and our paper menus came with other peoples food on them. I hate that at a restaurant. It's disgusting. Also, I've had the delicious chorizo taco many times, but the last time, it tasted more like a sand taco. Service and food still great though, for the most part.

We've been here twice now. So far, our experiences have been uneven -- Pluses: * tasty Mexican pulled pork (Tingas?) * atmosphere * guacamole Minuses: * haphazard service * slow kitchen * midtown Manhattan prices The chances of a good tasting Mexican meal are good -- just watch out for inattentive waitstaff and those prices. I don't mind paying for chips and salsa but items like $15 burritos are eye-popping. This isn't some trendy locale where the restaurant has high overhead for decor and rent. It's Camas. You can throw a rock and hit the paper mill. #justsayin'

We saw this restaurant passing by one day and wanted to try it. It has great atmosphere until your get a menu with dry food stuck to it. The sangria was great, but our dishes (chili relleno and chimichanga) were not very good due to a very overpowering spice (I believe it was cinnamon). We also ordered a small chips and salsa. Both the chips and salsa were served cold (refrigerator-cold salsa tastes like Pace regardless if they made it or not).

Once a 4- or 5- star, now a 3-star upscale Mexican stop in downtown Camas. A year ago, prior to the expansion, this was easily a 4-star, possibly a 5-star place. The atmosphere was nice, great tacos, killer chips and salsa (real house-fried white corn tortillas...the only true tortilla chip!) Unfortunately things have changed. On a birthday dinner last weekend my steak chimi looked and felt more like shredded beef because it had been so overcooked, possibly stewed to keep warm, and it wasn't anything like it's former glory. The chorizo tacos - easily my favorite dish here - had huge chunks of potato that threw off the balance. Other recent visits have had other things simply "off" compared to their past versions as well. It's still good food but you're paying a serious premium over other places and the prep just seems to have gotten sloppy. There's a sense their growth has moved them towards quantity over quality. I will return in a few months hoping it's shaken off the dust but I've been disappointed recently.

Out of guacamole? On a Tuesday at 4:00? Seriously? Food was good although half their menu items list guac in the description - for goodness sake go to the grocery store or Camas Produce and get some avocados!

Vegan options: Eh Service: Fine Price: $$$ Decided to try a new place for dinner last night and while we weren't necessarily "disappointed," we probably won't be back. Our waitress was sweet but not too knowledgeable about the menu which is important to me as I don't eat animal products. The chips & salsa are unfortunately very lackluster (and greasy) and are also not complimentary. The guac is pretty good though. It seems that everything here is "okay" but doesn't warrant the price. As a vegan I didn't find myself with many options which is always a bummer. Ordered the kale salad and a side of black beans. I was surprised to see the black beans come out which goat cheese on top so we had to ask for a new order. My parents liked their tacos and my mom enjoyed her Spanish coffee.

Finally. Mexican food done right along with a killer upscale casual atmosphere. And our server rocked too.

Food here is greasy, tasty and comes in huge portions. I came here for a Friday lunch and promptly slipped into a food coma after stuffing myself with chips, guac and vegetable mesadilla. Full points for the chips n guac! You'd think it can't possibly have much variety in taste, but it does! There's the ordinary stuff you get elsewhere (read: Chipotle), and then there's the AMAZING stuff here at Nuestra Mesa! The chips are thick, salty and dripping in oil (yum!), and the guacamole is chunky, fresh and with lots of cilantro. I was satiated even before my actual lunch arrived. The mesadilla had a nice balance of cheese and vegetables in it. Cute decor, fast friendly service. I'm deducting two stars because the salsa was not that good and tasted somewhat burnt (for a Mexican restaurant, that's unacceptable!) and because of the lack of options for vegetarians (there's just 1 mesadilla, 1 taco and chips. Come on, you can do better than that, this is the Portland area). Overall, a good place, slightly pricey, but could be worth the money if you are not limiting yourself to the vegetarian items.

Food was good, but just good. Not great. Rice had way qtoo much cilantro in it (some is just fine). I am a huge ceviche fan and have eaten it around the world. This ceviche was a good portion, but $12! Burritos were $15. Have had way better for half the cost. You're paying for a nice atmosphere and a high lease district of town. Food could be better for the price.

I enjoyed everything, even the salad was unique and really good. Service was pleasent. Good wine selection for a small venue.

Really great menu! Loved the different price point + size options, and that there are plenty of vegetarian/pescatarian options available without having to do any modifications. Our server (young blonde girl) was really sweet--I apologize, I forget her name. She was very attentive and walked us through the different things she liked and the beers on tap and let us box our leftovers! We'll be back the next time we're walking around Camas!

Pretty disappointed with this place. I had heard some good things, but sadly the food quality was pretty poor for my visit. That usually doesn't warrant a negative review, but I have to say the service was awful as well. Everyone ordered tacos, but every plate came out wrong. It wasn't that some had someone else's tacos, they were just completely the wrong order. Also, we tried to order a refill of the chips and salsa 4 times and never ended up getting them. Lastly, everyone felt physically ill after the meal for the rest of the night. Next time in Camas, i'll be going to the Taco Bell down the street. At least then I can plan for a night of mud-butt and misery...

In my opinion the bathroom was the only thing to match the Mexican theme. The decor didn't have a Spanish influence or match any Mexican restaurant before that I've gone to. Don't order the Tinga nachos. It was lukewarm, had burnt chips, not much cheese, the onions tasted weird, and it was downright awful!!!

  • Kelsey H.

Favorite Mexican around!! I love that the restaurant space more than doubled in size. I always order different tacos with guacamole and chips. The salsa's good. I don't love the roasted chili (charred) flavor as much as my friends. I often get a side of charro beans so I can guess at how it's made and try to make it at home. I haven't succeeded yet. I very much enjoyed the Tinga pork sandwich the one time I visited during lunch too. Lunch and dinner menus vary a tad. I do wish they and other Portland restaurants would move away from using the skinny drink glasses. I'm a camel--and need lots of water and it's annoying for me and I'm sure the server to get/wait on the refills. Other than these pathetic critics, I love the place.

Good food, mediocre service (at best) and very pricey and more than a bit on the pretentious side. Interesting com nations of favors with superb presentation, but we went at a very slow time....there were three whole tables and 4 wait staff on and yet everything took ages. DEFINITELY NOT a place to take any kid younger than 12-14 unless they have a very adult palate. We ordered our daughter something from the minute kids menu (which is really very much of an afterthought by the size of it) and it was overly spicy. So if you enjoy Pearl District pretentiousness and its accounting prices then this is the place for you! Should you want to eat in less than 3 hours or have children with you (which I would guess they'd rather you left them at home) then you are better off going elsewhere.

Best Latin food in Portland! Queso fundido is a must and salsa/chips are perfect. All is fresh and full of flavor.

I was hearing rave reviews about this place from coworkers, so decided to check it out for myself. It's definitely one of the better Mexican spots in Clark County! Food is delicious and perfectly portioned, though a little on the pricey side. The space is small - a long, narrow room that can seat maybe 30. But there is sidewalk seating when the weather is nice, and rumor has it Twilight Pizza next door is closing down and these guys are going to knock down the wall and take over that space. Fingers crossed. We started with the chips and salsa and a side of guacamole. The chips were fresh but quite greasy. Fortunately, the house salsa was wonderful - nice and thick, chock full of freshly diced onion and cilantro, with a pleasant but not overpowering punch. The guacamole was equally good. For our entree, we ordered a pair of tacos each. The tinga was the highlight of the bunch - pork shoulder with a touch of citrus and cinnamon, smoky chipotle sauce and crumbled cotija cheese. Topped with shredded cabbage, radishes and a squeeze of lemon, it was divine. Very similar to the carnitas taco, with just a few extra touches. The shrimp taco was succulent - each bite of shrimp plump, juicy and cooked to perfection. Ironically, the least interesting taco was also the most expensive. I just wasn't a fan of the carne asada. The meat was tender but lacking in flavor. I would definitely stick with the pork or seafood options. One minor complaint: no salt shakers on the tables. Come to think of it, the cadillac margarita did not have a salted rim, either. Hmm. Why the aversion to salt, Nuestra Mesa? Despite this, the margarita was very good...and packs a punch. In the best way possible, of course. UPDATE: Nuestra Mesa did, indeed, knock down the wall and is now twice as large as before, having taken over the old Twilight Pizza space. Much roomier!

Easily the best Mexican food in Camas/Washougal area. Steak tacos, chicken tacos were great. Chips and salsa were fantastic ($1.50 but bottomless) service was great with wonderful atmosphere. Great ingredients. A must try.

The food is fantastic the service HORRIBLE! My husband and I asked a waitress if we could sit outside and she said yes. Well there we sat for quite some time until my husband got up and went inside to get menus. He said two boys asked him what he was doing and he told them that we've been sitting outside and no one is serving us. So after we thoroughly read the menu a woman asked if we would like to have something to drink but she was not our waitress? We ordered a margarita and beer then she said well I guess I can take your order after we told her that we had been sitting there for quite some time. So we finally got our food and we asked where are drinks were and the woman said oh they didn't bring them? Also we had glasses and had to ask for water and chips which they charge you for!

We have visited Nuestra Mesa several times and we will keep coming back! This isn't your typical American/Mexican food. The food is special. I really love the flavor profiles and depth of skill used in the recipes. I feel that each time I eat their food I experience something new! The ginger margarita is my wife's favorite drink and a must. I would give Nuesta Mesa my highest recommendation.

I have visited this restaurant twice now on my through camas. It's definitely worth the trip into town! The prices are very reasonable and the food is amazing and fresh. The paper menu seems brief at first glance, but all of the dishes I have had (as well as those of my companions) have met and exceeded expectations. My most recent visit happened to fall during happy hour, and I decided to try the corn dish. Oh. My. Goodness. So good! Cilantro, fresh radishes, and a bit of charring and spice on the corn. The tacos are priced by the each, so it's easy to select a few different individual types. You do pay extra for chips and salsa, but it's around three dollars and the guacamole is chunky and brilliant. The salsa doesn't have a ton of kick, and is a little chunky, very good as well. My mom was limited to drinks during our visit after a surgery, and although the waitress could not offer the tomato juice originally promised she went out of her way to accommodate us and try to find some decaf tea she could have. She was also very familiar with the menu and patient with our questions. We had one of the owners on our first visit, and had good service as well. Our food came out quick, but the restaurant was not crowded at the time. Can't wait to visit again!

Had good memories of prior visit when they were new. Not so much now. Margo way too sweet and food bland. $70 for three people and no one liked their food. Sad that success weakened their game.

Chips, salsa, and guacamole = amazing! Not spicy, so if you like spice salsa, this isn't that, it's very yummy, though! From a marketing standpoint you really shouldn't charge for the chips and salsa. I understand paying for guacamole. At this point I have a feeling they feel that people pay for it now, so keep charging, but over time that model won't work. I went with another person on a Thur. evening and it's a happening spot. The owner is nice, he picked up our plates when finished. As an owner he could have been a little more engaging. For the person that said the salsa tastes burnt - it's not burnt, it's supposed to have that roasted flavor and it's very delightful and refreshing. For the person that said this is more of a modern twist on Mexican food, I very much AGREE! The portions are great, the prices are a little high. The space and decor is quaint and hip. Everyone around me seemed to be loving their drinks, too. I will be back!

My husband wanted to plan a dinner with friends for my birthday and we ended up with 24 people. I wanted to go to Nuestra Mesa for the food, drinks and ambiance and because I always like to support our local restaurants. They were fantastic! They accommodated our large party with grace and excellent service--and we weren't easy because we kept moving to different seats! The food is always great and drinks are excellent! I highly recommend this restaurant.

Very long wait to be seated then more waiting for food. Don't go on a Friday night! The chips are fresh and the salsa good.

I was blown away by this place. Came here with family on our way back from some Gorge fun. Torta de Tinga was divine! Tacos, chile relleno, birria were all very good. I need to rethink Camas as a food destination. I would say that this place is better than 95% of the taquerias and Mexican food carts in PDX metro area.

Unfortunately, I work in the Vancouver/Camas area. I live in Portland (thankfully), but my lunch options are very limited. I went here for lunch with some coworkers a few days ago, and it was great! It's about a fiftteen minute drive from the office, but totally worth it. Chips + guac = AMAZING. The guac is so good. I could sit there and eat the chips and guac all day, have a drink, and not return to work. Hah. The carne asada taco I had was good as well. Cute spot in dowtown Camas. Reasonsible prices and good service. I'll be back!

Not a frequent visitor to Camas, but was there to watch a sporting event. We parked downtown and asked the locals where to go for dinner. They enthusiastically said "Mesa". We walked there and saw the place was packed (Friday at 6:15). But the hostess was very helpful and found us a table within 10 mins of arriving. The atmosphere seemed pretty hip for Camas and the wait staff was fantastic. Food was a bit pricy, but seemed fresh and of good quality. The portions were adequate but not huge, don't expect to take home leftovers. The Mexican cuisine was prepared with a more authentic style...not your typical refried beans and cheese laden food. Lots of choices for vegetarians. The chips and salsa were great...but it would be nice if they were complimentary.

Produce sticker in my meal...... Small local place. My favorite kind of place..... However..... I would like to go back but I gave the next visit $10 card to my sister since she lives in Camas. Small dipping containers for the salsa. Especially if you get the spicy salsa. I ordered a large chips and salsa and my brother in law suggested to trying the enchiladas. Overall the enchilada's had a great presentation and flavor. I devoured one and realized on my last bite there was a sticker on my other enchilada. I notified the waitress ( possibly even the owner) and at first she laughed and then ask me what it was. I said it looks like some sort of sticker from an avocado or something in the produce department. She said would you like me to have the kitchen re- make it? I declined and said no because next time maybe the sticker would be on the inside. I suggested that maybe she brought it back to one off the chef. She returned with my tab and coupon. Good luck.

My wife and I came here tonight for the first time to check it out. When we walked in the hostess looked like she was half asleep and didn't want to be there. Asked us if it was just us two and then walked us to our table. She then put down two empty water glasses and walked away. At this point we're sitting there looking over the menu with nothing to drink and couldn't believe the prices. $15 for a burrito seemed a little nuts but okay, lets see what happens. So after five minutes of sitting at our table (still haven't been helped yet) we see another couple get seated. So fast forward a little and here we are at the ten minute mark, still haven't been helped, we have no clue who our server is and I see the other couple being helped already. At least point we've already had enough. We both got paid today and were going to splurge to treat ourselves on a Friday night. With prices like this you'd think the service would be excellent but our experience was horrible. We won't ever go back to this restaurant again and will tell all of our friends and family to not even bother with this place from now on.

I am disappointed in Nuestra Mesa. Their food is good, but they have been closed or otherwise unavailable the last two times I've attempted to eat there. For one thing, I learned they are closed on Sundays when I tried to have dinner there with a friend a few months ago. That's a bummer because weekends are prime eating out time for me. Last night, we were turned away at the door because they were booked up with a "restaurant review party." I won't bother attempting to visit again due to sporadic hours, especially given the proximity to other great restaurants that are regularly open for business (Mill City Pub, Twilight Pizza, Birch Street Tavern, Harvest, Natalia's, Our Bar, Amnesia Brewing, Los Dos I & II, etc.)

I wanted to like this place, but was disappointed. The food was good, but for a taqueria way too expensive and VERY slow. Next Time I'll make the drive to Portland and go to Pepinos.

  • Douglas L.

Not your typical Mexican Restaurant. The food has been fantastic every time we have gone. The portion sizes are just right and the fresh chips and salsa are splendid. The only reason I did not rate 5 stars was due to the speed of service. I have been back several time because of the taste and quality of the food!

  • Michael B.

The sign in the window says authentic Mexican but the menu had only 2 or 3 recognizable Mexican selections. No tamales, no enchiladas, no tostados, no refried beans. About the only item I recognized was a torta but even it didn't have ingredients you would expect on a torta. Prices...very outrageous. Very small seating area and they seem to cater to the affluent. I will not return, there are too many real authentic Mexican restaurants nearby with reasonable prices.

  • James G.

By far the best Mexican food in town. All food is very fresh. Nothing is pre-processed. My personal favorites are the Chile Relleno and the Cadillac Margaritas. My wife loves the Chicken Chowder with roasted green chiles and the Pomegranate Margaritas. When I say fresh, I mean every single ingredient on the plate is unique and homemade. The kitchen is clean and open to all patrons. The service is very friendly and all of them remember you when you come back. If you're familiar with the area, the food is on par with Roots and Lapellah and Kitchen 360.

Really good food! As I have to eat gluten free, there is limited options but anything I have had is full of flavor. With the new expansion of the restaurant I hope to find more delicious items on the menu.

  • Amy M.

The food is pretty good, however, overpriced. They charge for chips and salsa. The service is not great. The owners and staff do not seem to be pleased that they have business. We were told in a rude blunt tone on three different occasions when calling in an order to go, that they were too busy to take our order. It's fine if a restaurant is busy and cannot fill an order within a normal time frame, but there is no reason why they can't say "I'm sorry, we are very busy and the wait would be 40 minutes. Is this ok?"

First time tonight, was beyond good. I've been too Salulita and this place is legit!! Good margarita to start then amazing chicken enchiladas with this amazing Adobe cream sauce and several very good authentic tacos on very fresh, delicate corn tortillas. Will definitely be back. Yum!

  • Kathryn E.

An alright place to get sort of fancy pants Mexican food. Good ginger margaritas. Good chips and salsa. Kind of blah fish tacos, but a nice starter salad. The service is kind of blah, not out right rudeness, but we had to ask 2 times to get our appetizers (the chips and salsa you pay for) and they brought them after the food. It's not a bad place or an amazing place. It's ok but probably wont be anyone's favorite. We chose it because it was close and we wanted to be close to home in case the sitter had a problem. For that it was great.

A hidden treasure in quaint downtown Camas. One of my favorites spots for Mexican food. Food is delicious and decent portions -- chips are amazingly good. A little higher priced than other Mexican places in the area, but well worth it.

My first two visits were 5 star! I thought I'd write a new review for visit number 3 because it was such a different experience. What I've learned is to go eat at this little gem during quieter times of day. Unfortunately, they cannot accommodate a Friday night dinner rush. We were at the tail end of the rush. We were promptly seated and told our server would be right with us. She wasn't. It took about 15-20 minutes minutes before she arrived. We were getting up to leave when she appeared. We should've taken this as a sign of what to come. We ordered our drinks, chips and salsa and tacos. The drinks and chips arrived fairly soon after we ordered.... Then we waited almost an hour for our 3 tacos! They were good but not worth an hour wait. We were apologized to a couple times saying the food would be right up. Then, their credit card machine quit working and they took down our card info and said it'd be run in a day or two. This was a scary, although it did all work out just fine. The food was good, as always. Service okay, as always... Just go at a quieter time and you'll likely have a nice experience.

My bro-in-law works in Camas and I had pegged Nuestra Mesa the last time I visited him as a place I wanted to try. Just my luck, we showed up around lunchtime. The food: Chips, Salsa, Guac- fresh, flavorful, bright Quesadilla- both who ordered this thought it was bland, didn't come with anything but cheese and meat inside and needed some pico or sauce Taco Salad- fresh greens, good meat, and perfectly fried shell Tacos- a la carte w/ 1 roasted veggie that was to-die-for, and 1 camarones which had a great spicy sauce and chopped cabbage I can't speak for the drinks. While it was 5 o'clock somewhere I just wasn't feeling a margarita on this particular day. As for the service, this is what knocks off a star. It seems these folks really need some extra help up front. I know it's tough with small restaurants like these, but it seemed many tables in the restaurant had empty glasses and long wait times. Overall, the food was good enough to where I'd come back, but if the service continues to be poor I worry that the food might not be enough to keep customers walking in the door.

This inventive little Mexican restaurant is a wonderful addition to the Camas growing gastronomic scene. I love their fresh salsas and homemade chips. My husband loves the Margarita's, which the owner Todd has perfected. Their black beans and charro beans are nutritious and delicious. I have found it hard to get good Mexican food in the Northwest, but Nuestra Mesa combines sophistication and innovation with tried and true ingredients. Love the taco salad for lunch. This is a great place for a casual night out, or a quick but tasty lunch.

We just loved this place. Red Sangria in mason jars (excellent!). The chips and salsa were great and the chicken chowder I had was fantastic. Lisa had a great salad and veggie tacos, while I had a steak chimi. All is fresh and great. Some of the best Mexican food I have had anywhere around here. Yeah it's a little bit expensive, but it's worth it. Our service was quick and attentive. It's our new favorite and we'll be back.

What happened to my favorite restaurant. Wife and I went there tonight and had tacos. I am not lying by saying there was about one tablespoon of stuff on each of our tacos. I was shocked. Also, they had zero flavor. I guess they need to pay for the new addition. We will not be back and we have been long time customers.

Food is good, but way too expensive for mexican food. Beware that you pay for chips and salsa and refills on ice tea. We paid $47 for lunch for 3.5.

This restaurant goes way beyond what you expect when you hear Mexican cuisine. It is wonderful and different than any other Mexican restaurant I know. The food is fresh and creative, not the same 4 ingredients you find in some more common places.

We keep getting the same grouchy waitress, who is rude and has a severe attitude about something or other ... every time. Drinks are expensive and they skimp on the cocktails ... at such inflated prices, they could really give you more than half a glass of your ordered drink, rather than make you feel as though you've been robbed. Food is okay, but not worth the indigestion caused by truly bad service.

Found Nuestra Mesa on yelp when looking for lunch options in our new area and let me tell ya, fantastic food! High quality Mexican bistro at its finest. The chips and salsa were great, homemade and delicious! My lunch was a carne asada taco salad, very good, cleared my plate easily! The taco shell was done perfectly! Overall will definitely be returning and recommending!!!

This is my favorite place for Mexican food in the Camas/Washougal area. The tacos are great, my favorite is the Tinga; the soup and the enchilada entrée are awesome. The food is hands down great. On the dinner menu the tacos are $4 or under and entrees are $16 to $20. I wish there was an in-between price range or a smaller portion of the entrees for around $10 to $12. All the entrees are great and can serve 2 people. (unless you are really hungry) My wife and I love this place. This has been our go-to restaurant for Mexican food after trying all the other ones in the area.

Tinga Torta!!! That's reason enough to drive here ftom wherever you're at. Have them add the roasted poblanos that come on the Asada Torta (which is also delicious). The chile piquin salsa is amazing but you must request it. This is NOT a taqueria. It is more like upscale classic continental Mexican cuisine. The owners are gracious and charming. Make sure to visit the bathroom decorated with lots of Latin kitsch.

3 stars for the food. The enchiladas were unique in flavor and quite tasty!! I had a hard time paying $3.50 for 1...yes 1 small taco. You had to pay for the chips & salsa well. 1 star for the service. The young gal barely spoke to us and didn't even bring us the basics like water. She had attitude and was rude, which killed our first experience there. Overall, the food was just ok. I didn't leave and say "wow, I'm going back."

I can't wait to go back and try more from the menu! The owner waited on us and she recommended the Birria (Slow roast pork, tomatilla-Pastilla chile sauce, orange-Habanero sauce) which I thoroughly enjoyed. My fiancé is a foodie and he loved the Enchiladas (Shredded Chicken in Adobo sauce, Ancho Chile cream, wilted spinach, zucchini). I enjoyed stealing bites from his plate. The salsa and guacamole is yummy too!

I don't usually write reviews unless a place is really good or really bad. This one is somewhere inbetween, but I think a little balance is needed in all these reviews. A friend and I met there for lunch. I wanted a burrito, but thought that $15 was a bit pricey. Perhaps I've become cheap in my old age .. or just more aware of the cost of things. I settled for a sandwich that was reasonably priced at $8.95. My friend also selected a sandwich. While the burrito might have been wonderful, paying $20+ for lunch (with iced tea, chips, tip) seemed a bit much, especially when I can go to Mars Inn and have a great Chinese meal for about a third the cost. On the plus side, the waitress was friendly and the food was good. Not wonderful. Good.

Living in Vancouver, I spend most of my weekends in downtown Portland whenever I can. As much as I love portland, the drive there is excruciating long! I've always been on the lookout for urban, authentic places in Vancouver. And let me tell you, I've never had the best of luck. As soon as I was introduced to Nuestra Mesa, I instantly fell in love. It was just as if I was in downtown Portland! Not only is the food amazing, but there wasn't anything on the menu that I never have liked. So cheers to Mesa, for saving me the drive :)

not really sure how this place gets such high ratings. Lack of variety maybe? The advertisement says authentic, but the food does not appear so, lots of beans in the burrito. And not so much anything else. This was our second time here and we were reminded why we did not like it the first time.

Small restaurant with great food and excellent margaritas. So far I've been there twice and will go again. I moved to Camas from Hillsboro and was delighted to find a good local Mexican Restaurant.

Oh, man. This place has fabulous food. Think of it as high-end Mexican food with chips to die for. I've had the enchiladas, the vegetarian tacos, and the chicken torta and all were fabulous, but the enchiladas my favorite. The chips and queso fundido are superb. The restaurant is really small, so if you're going on a weekend, I recommend getting a reservation. It's also not super family friendly and I'd recommend getting a babysitter for the night if you can. That being said, I've taken my kids and they love the beans, tortillas, and guacamole. If Nuestra Mesa made their corn tortillas in house, I'd be there for every meal. Regardless, they're still amazing and I love the food.

We have wanted to eat here since we got here yesterday and when we came tonight with it being 91° outside, it was just too hot for me to sit inside so we left. We were sitting a half a block away and the owner's wife came after us and offered to put the table out side if we would be more comfortable and so we did that. We ended up having a most wonderful meal of tacos and guacamole especially the Tinga. We highly recommend this wonderful Mexican restaurant if you are visiting in Camas or if you live here. The owners wife is so friendly as is other waitstaff staff and along with a wonderful meal, it is quite a treat!

I just love this place. Try the drinks one by one. The white sangria tastes like a high end cocktail. Not just wine. I'm a taco girl. Love the tacos. Staff always willing to help with substitutions. Lunch has tortas which are very good. Home made chips!!!

Great authentic Mexican food in the heart of downtown. Had awesome street tacos and my wife had a burrito bigger then my head. Attentive wait staff. Great house made chips and salsa with a smokey chipotle taste in the salsa.

I have been coming here since they opened. Tonight, I decided to finally write a review... First, Nuestra Mesa offers excellent value, and the ingredients are the real deal! Tonight my family started out with guacamole, chips and salsa which were beyond your average fare. For dinner, I had the fish taco and tinga taco. My hubby had chicken enchiladas which were presented beautifully with a rice-stuffed roasted chile and then plated with a sauce that brought it all together. Both of our dishes were amazing and flavorful. So many Mexican restaurants shy away from bold flavors or they over-salt the food to fake their way through bland ingredients. Nuestra Mesa shines with authentic recipes and is such a vital element to Downtown Camas. We love this place! (I shared this on Google reviews too.)

Wow. Wow. We ran across this place by accident, and wow was the food amazing. Especially the pork loin, which was the special. Discussion with the server indicated they were looking into making it a regular menu item, which would be great. Seriously, it was amazing. We also got the Carne Asada, which was also very tasty. Although I think next time we go (and trust me, there will be a next time... soon) I may try some pork tacos or possibly the chile relleno. We also got some margaritas, which were a bit pricey, but quite good. Especially the Ginger Margarita. The place is a bit pricey. But seriously, that pork tenderloin was worth it.

I cannot believe this place is in Camas!! Neither can I believe that I have not know about it until now. The food is amazing. And not just for Mexican food. This is seriously in top 10 best restaurants I have ever been to. There are vibrant colors, unlike your typical brown stuff that you see in other Mexican places. There are fresh, crisp veggies. There are layers of flavors bringing you close to nirvana and you cannot help but thanking Mother Nature for gifting you those taste buds. From the cocktail menu - oh yes, did I mention they have full bar???? - I only tried special of the day, spiked spiced hot chocolate and it was perfection. The service is hit or miss. But seriously, with such heavenly food, they can set me on fire and I would just shrug it off.

You know, this is just one of those places that we like. It is very casual, and I guess the main complaint we would have is that it is a bit loud so hard to visit. But the people waiting the tables are always nice and we like the food. Personally I like to get a variety of the tacos. I noticed that one person said $3.50 is a lot for one taco, but let's think about that ... for a guy 3 tacos will make a meal. What's that, $10.50, which is fine for dinner. Also, they have some decent drinks here (alcohol) although their wine is overpriced, even compared to other restaurants.

by far the most authentic mexican food i've found. the salsa is incredible, the carne asada is tender and juicy, the pescado and camaron tacos were delicious...and all for a great price. can't wait to bring friends and family to experience this.

Well, the first time service was bad enough where I thought about not coming back, but the food and ambiance were so good I had to go back. This was an incredible strike out. The food was great, and I'll give it a third try but here's what happened. I had set up a meeting for 7:30 so needed to be back by that time. I arrived at 6:20, plenty of time. I love live music, but not when it disrupts the entire experience. I had to wait a bit more than usual to get the menu, get my wine and then eventually get my food, but still had adequate time. She gathered my plate and asked if I wanted anything more and I said 'It was great, just the bill please'. This was at ~7. It was a family affair, obviously, and I would normally have been thrilled with getting to hear it, but I was in a bit of a hurry. First, it was her niece (I believe she said), who sang a few songs. Next my waitress took the stage. Punchline? After waiting **35min** and even giving her the international symbol of "Check PLEASE!" when I was now already late for the meeting, but doing all I could to not be rude. At 7:37 I put down what I hope was adequate and had to run. Perhaps she had thought she already dropped the bill off. The food is so good that I have to give it one more try... but for now, this was obviously a 1 star experience.

"Nuestra Mesa" is ancient Spanish meaning "our table." The title is fitting since that's what you get for your first hour - a table. If willing to bust your wallet you can add some chips and "gravy" (they call it salsa) for $2.50 so you have something to put on the table. Seriously who charges for chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant? That's like charging my mother to use my bathroom. I wouldn't recommend that table fluff as the chips tasted too much like dandelions and that gravy sauce...?...I'm not sure where in Mexico they make salsa like that but it resembled something of tomato flavored toothpaste. The Tacos were decent but not worth 240 Rupees (using 5/5/2014 FX rates). I'll give you the title Authentic Mexican as I was literally sitting in a hole in a wall, the food took so long I wondered if the animals were in the kitchen, and the only burrito they offer costs your first born. To sum it up if you're looking for really good Mexican food, don't look in Camas, Washington. The Tacos were better than "On the Border" but not yet the level of Taco Bell and their infamous mystery meat hose. If you insist we wait an hour for food you could at least provide us with a mariachi band or a Doritos Locos Taco to get us through.

While we were eating here, Pirate Grrl insisted that we have to write Nuestra Mesa a good review. So here it is! From the 6 year old perspective: the tortilla chips are the best ever, the kid's bean burrito is delicious, and she could spend hours in their bathroom (looking at all the interesting displays on the walls). I enjoyed my meal here as well. The watermelon drink was refreshing. The green, smoky salsa that came with the chips was unusual and delicious, and the guacamole was first-rate. A couple tacos filled me right up: one with root vegetables, one with pork shoulder, both fresh-tasting and delicious. My only point of dissatisfaction was with the serving size of the salsa--the cute little pot it came in was very little. It was enough to go with about 3 chips (though admittedly I'm much fonder of salsa than the chips that deliver it to my eager mouth). Between the pot of the salsa and the guacamole, I had about a handful of chips covered. At least Pirate Grrl was happy to finish the rest. The interior was pleasant and well-decorated, with a seasonal Day of the Dead theme. Our server was great with kids and took good care of us. I think if the salsa serving size had been a bit more generous, this would have been a 5 star review. Who knows, I may have to bump it up a star after trying the happy hour someday (though I'm going to have to hold off on the drinking for a few more months). The happy hour menu looked wonderful, with inexpensive tacos, ceviche (can't wait to sample that), and other yummy things. Maybe they even have "real" Sangria ... mmm ... Sangria ...

We were visiting from out of town and chanced on Nuestra Mesa. What a delight--from the tasteful and varied artwork on the walls, to the soothing music, and most of all, of course, the delicious food. We started with chips, guacamole and salsa, and margaritas--all freshly made and delicious. My husband tried the Birria and I mixed and matched tacos and sides. Everything was fresh, wonderfully spiced, and beautifully presented. We were delighted to find out that our servers were the owners, Tanya and Todd, who couldn't have been nicer and more attentive. I'd highly recommend Nuestra Mesa.

Please visit this restaurant if you're in the East Vancouver/Camas area, it is well worth a little extra driving. I've eaten here twice in as many weeks, and the food is top notch. Fresh ingredients, well seasoned food, at competitive prices. The most exciting thing was the expansive selection of vegetarian options. I also love their fresh cut and fried tortilla chips. Well worth the cost of the large, and go for the guac too!! Come enjoy a fabulous meal here so we can encourage the Camas restaurant scene!

This place is an absolute gem. If you live int he area, or in Portland and are looking to eat somewhere a little less chaotic than the city, this is a great place to go. Being from San Diego, and having traveled quite a bit, I've had the opportunity to try all kinds of Mexican food--from the tex-mex, to baja, to jalisco style. This is what I would call urban chic mexican. Though you will see familiar names to foods (ie tacos) the meat is lean, roasted and delicious. I had the pocole and it was AWESOME! Want me some of that again soon! As far as the snarky reviews--obviously they eat at dive places and don't mind the over cheesy, rice and beans heavy "slop style" mexican that so many places serve on the west coast. While I will say that is good "filler food" I go more for quality than quantity, And that is exactly what you get at Nuestra Mesa--quality food!

This is a locally owned place and I really prefer those types of places - they try harder and usually taste better. Experience 1: Our first experience was with a Groupon. Their waiter/waitress didn't show up to work. We put in our order and they mixed up what we had asked for. The owner/manager knew of the mix up and comped our meal. We decided to give this place another try... Experience 2: Our second try... service was better (not great), but the food was average. The menu is also small and there's not much to pick from. Main dish was not very satisfying and decided to give desert a try... all I can say is don't try the cheesecake. Others should also know that they charge for salsa... hmmm. I would rather pay extra for my main dish then be nickle & dimed. The positive... it's really quaint restaurant in downtown Camas and great place for a date. Overall, it's not bad, but not worth what you are paying for.

I see some mixed reviews for this place but I have got to tell you, it's refreshingly different but some folks just need to cut them some slack. Camas is in a bit of a transition now between the gourmand crap that you can find all over the county and the newer, more sophisticated places. To those who think this place is pricey, and a bit inaccessible, I would say, please go to the Taco Bell down the street, I would rather not have you get in my way. I do tend to agree that their salad with pumpkin seeds is a little too salty but it still was very good. As far as the other food goes, their chips and fresh guacamole were great, as were their baja style tacos and their adult beverages. Try this place out, remember that this is not a fast food place, they actually prepare everything on site and frankly it is very good and a nice refreshing change from the ordinary garbage that is peddled around Clark County.

Excellent food and ambiance. Service is a bit slow but highly personalized. Every dish is great. Try several different tacos. Each is a delight. In a region with generally poor Mexican food, this is an unexpected surprise.

This is a great place to eat authentic Mexican food.. if you don't like that and are just use to chains you might have to get use to it. It is going to be a favorite of ours.. delicious and they are small portions, but that is all you need to eat, we were full and had to take some home. We will be back many times.. oh my gosh the veggie taco and green rice is yummy. The guacamole and chips.. fresh and wonderful.

Delicious tacos -- especially the pork. True, it's not terribly cheap... But it's top-notch quality. Like other reviewers have said, if you want a week's worth of calories for $2 you can go down the street to Taco Bell. Haven't tried chips and drinks yet, but I'll be sure to come back for happy hour (3-5pm)

Amazing, amazing food. Authentic mexican but also fresh and creative. I had the chicken enchiladas and Anaheim chile. They were just great. The sauce was traditional red sauce but with a spectactular cream finish. The stuffed Anaheim chile was a great surprise. Not fried, a perfectly spiced chile stuffed with rice, corn and spices. Great, great restaurant. We will be coming back.

So we came back and decided to try something from their list of specials. I got a chile relleno and my wife got a pork tenderloin with some chipotle mashed sweet potatoes. Everything was decent but just seemed to be missing something. I can't put my finger on it but things just don't taste quite right. I had one of their speciality cocktails and was not impressed at all. Honestly, they have great ingredients and such great potential but they fall flat on their face when it comes to delivery. The food just does not have the flavor one would expect from a restaurant of this caliber or price point. I give it three stars only because it beats the pants off of almost everything else in Camas. I wouldn't go way out of my way to eat here though. I really am disapointed about this one, I had such high hopes!

My wife and I ate here last week. The service was friendly, the place was clean, the atmosphere was nice and I really liked the fact that it was a small place (I really felt like I was supporting a small business). I liked the fact that the kitchen was open, which gives you the impression that there is "nothing to hide" in terms of employees, food preparation, etc. Everything we asked about was actually made right there, even the chips. We thought the food was great and the pricing was perfectly fine. We will definitely go back.

I found it in Camas, that is, if 'it' is pretentiousness and hype. This is yet another pseudo-hip venue in the small downtown so desperate to find an identity. So my friend and I walk in and are greeted by the oh-so-full-of-herself hostess and we're promptly seated. The waitress announces that the portions are small and asked if we want drinks. The look of disappointment was obvious when we opted to just get food. So the menu has a Taco for $3.00 and a cup (more like a half cup) of soup for $2.50. The message appears to be that it's trendy to not over eat so I order a cup of soup and some corn tortillas and her response was "Is that all?" What a joke. Like I don't see through the plan to order three tacos ($9.00), rice and bean (another $5.00) and a Margarita ($8+). This is about taking your money folks make no mistake and they don't even try to erect a facade in front of it. As for the soup, I can puree beans and top it with a dollop of sour cream and some parsley at home. There was absolutely nothing about it worth even talking about. It's interesting that the other reviewer mentioned another restaurant because they are actually way more authentic and provide a much better value. I apologize for not bothering to try to the other items but I was so off-put by our waitress that both my friend and I couldn't wait to get out of there. So if you're an aspiring yuppie, this place (and Harwood's for that matter) could really ring your bell; however, if you've lived in a large cosmopolitan city, you know better than to waste your time.

I would have given this place 5 stars had the service been somewhat okay. The food was excellent and drinks were good. The waitress was not very friendly with us or anyone else in the restaurant. We saw several couples walk out after talking to her and I don't blame them. My friends had been to this restaurant before and had the owners wait on them and they had a great experience. It's too bad that one waitress can ruin the experience for others. We may try this place again and hope to get friendly and good service.

I don't eat a lot of "American Mexican" food due to the incredible greasiness - I'm getting too old for that I guess. This is not your usual Mexican food - it's truly one of a kind. Their chicken Tacos (without onion) are amazing! Such a great flavor. We eat here quite often, and they are incredibly nice to us each time.

I love this place. It's my go to place for lunch in Camas. The atmosphere is great, the service is friendly, and their food presentation is really stylish. Oh yeah, and the food is off the hook. My favorite are the Tortas with an egg on top.

Returned for dinner after a movie at Liberty Theater. We even took the kids this time and they revised their recipes not too spicy at all for my boys, but still great flavor. You want more spice, you can add that. GO!! We have tried Por Que No and although that is good this is just as tasty if not more. Couple that with a cheap movie experience in a nostalgic theater and you have a night out without regrets calorically or monetarily.

So we just saw the review of Nuestra Mesa in the local newspaper this week and decided to check it out for our wedding anniversary dinner since we both love Mexican food. We were both very disappointed. I could have had better (AND for a better price) at Baja Fresh, and I'm not kidding. The server was not overly friendly (little words/no smiles or conversation) but her service was spot-on, so that's what really counts. The other thing that usually really counts is the food and in this area, I was very disappointed. So was my husband. He had the chimachanga. I am not an overly-picky eater, but was expecting much more from the enchilada plate I ordered. It was also rather pricey for what it was, so they really needed to have quality food on that plate, which they did not. The sauce covering the enchilada would have been tasty if it had been WARM, which it was not - almost room temp - yuck!! The chicken filling was the best part of the meal because it was average and at least warm. The corn/rice which came stuffed in a pepper atop the enchilada was very bland. No seasoning whatsoever. You can't add your own either because there was no salt/pepper or hot sauces to be had on anyone's table. We don't get to go out very often and save pricey places for special events as we did today when we went to Neustra Mesa. It bumbed me out so much I'm not going to go out except to our "tried and true" chains that we frequent because of their great food at great prices. We will not be back. Oh! The best thing about the visit was their awesome "Bano" which is decorated with all sorts of great stuff - fun to go in and look at!! More fun than eating their food!!

Well they've been in business for a year now so I guess it's time for me to write a review. First the disclaimers: I regularly eat lunch in downtown Camas and Mesa is one of my regular stops for both the food and the service. Now to address a few of the more obnoxious reviews: Pretentious they are not. The owners are literally there everyday preparing, cooking, and cleaning. When you are the chief cook and bottle washer it's a bit difficult to come off as pretentious. Small portions? "What is a cynic? A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing." -Oscar Wilde Mesa is not an all you can eat buffet but does offer quality food served in reasonable portions. If you want gigantic burritos with a weeks worth of calories for $4 you'll have to eat somewhere else. Service. Yes they get busy sometimes and in the course of their first year of operation no doubt had service failures. Is it better to complain about them on line or just let the owner know (who's probably in the back working)? I can't speak to their drink menu, but can say that the menu selection is adequate and varied yet not so diverse that they can't maintain a consistent standard of freshness. On the recommendation of the staff I've tried several dishes I probably wouldn't have otherwise ordered. To my delight they were wonderful and are now a regular part of my diet. (Especially the Roasted Vegetable Taco) The chips are like no other and when paired with the guacamole are a wonderful appetizer and conversation victual. My advice: try it for yourself, the food is high quality and the atmosphere quaint. Just don't expect some mega portion that will leave you feeling bloated. Oh, and try the cheesecake...it's ridiculously good.

The food is really good. The prices are just to high. The chimichanga is my favorite. It used to cost $12. Now it cost $14. In my opinion that is to much for a single item. It does not come with beans and rice like every other Mexican restaurant. They also do not provide free chips and salsa. They are the only Mexican restaurant that I have been to that does not give free chips and salsa, nor beans and rice with an entree. I will probably not go back.

I am now officially in love with this place. My mom had been telling me about how much I have to go and visit this place since the summer. I finally went about a month ago for my first visit and had lunch. I LOVE (LOVE) their chips and salsa (green salsa = HEAVEN!) I had one of their tacos (the one w/pork - can't remember the name). I also just went back again last week for drinks and the chips & salsa. Loved the margarita and when I go back I will be trying the ginger margarita. I swear I now crave the chips and salsa. It can be on the pricey side (you have to pay for the chips & salsa) but I will pay extra for such great food that is fresh and yummy!

I went here for happy hour with some friends from work. Little place, maybe seats 40 total. Small portions but it was happy hour, so maybe we'll try there for dinner some time to compare. Good food, good chips, interesting salsa...not your typical 'mexican' but it was tasty!

Food and service are incredible! I'm not a big Mexican food eater, but I keep coming back to this restaurant. The owners are great people with a great story of how they got where they are today. The food is fresh and tasty and all at a great price. There is outdoor seating and cosy indoor for those wet days.

Not impressed. The drinks were very small and very expensive. A Margarita was $9 and was about 4-5 ounces. The chips and salsa were extra. The service left a lot to be desired. After delivering our food, the server didn't come back until she delivered the bill. There were only two other tables with people at them, so she wasn't busy. We were never asked if we wanted another drink, dessert or even water. The food was just average and the portions were very small. I had a chili relleno that was half the size expected, and non-memorable. The sauce on top of it was cold. The tacos were ..again, average. Maybe they were having a bad night. But we won't be going back to find out. Too many other choices out there.

Would for surely say that we enjoyed our visit to this new restaurant. Food tasted fresh, drinks were good and atmosphere was nice. We liked the cozy feeling of the place. Limited seating but that is what makes you want to go even more! Only two things I would say were a bit disappointing. Margaritas were very good, however, the glass was awfully small and I felt like the price was a bit too much for a drink of that size and for Camas. Also, the ceviche that I ordered was made with Rock Fish and not a lot was going on there. Would have stuck with just the tacos, chips, salsa and guacamole. All in all a great time and happy that there is another option in Camas.

Nuestra Mesa isn't like other Mexican Restaurants in the area. Their menu isn't extensive and full of Americanized, huge portioned, saucy / cheesy / flavorless options. It's small and focused on the best of Mexican Food. The chips are fresh; the salsa isn't the red "same old" you're used to... it's dark, roasted & rich; the tacos are each a tantalizing combination of flavors; you can't go wrong with the specials... especially any shrimp dish they offer; and the beer is ice cold. It's a small restaurant and they maximize all space. We love this place, and have been there many times. We always leave happy!

This is our favorite restaurant. We partake on a weekly basis and the food is excellent. Service is excellent and you will love Todd and Tanya, the owners. Try the Ginger margarita! Yummy!

We still really enjoy it here. I moved it down a star because there have been a couple mistakes here and there, though none have gone unfixed. Little things like chicken being left out of a quesadilla or a second order of guacamole forgotten: not the biggest of deals, but not at the perfect level either. They are still accommodating and helpful, and we're still very happy to have them in town as a delicious option.

#justsayin'

  • Tina S.

I wanted to like this place, but was disappointed. The food was good, but for a taqueria way too expensive and VERY slow. Next Time I'll make the drive to Portland and go to Pepinos.

Not your typical Mexican Restaurant. The food has been fantastic every time we have gone. The portion sizes are just right and the fresh chips and salsa are splendid. The only reason I did not rate 5 stars was due to the speed of service. I have been back several time because of the taste and quality of the food!

    (2)

Good cocktails, tasty tacos. Salsa Was tasty but no kick. Guacamole unusually good. Potatoes in chorizo tacos don't work door me. Grilled fish tacos were excellent. Steak tacos were the best in our little tasting. Service a little dizzy tonight

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
