Before we moved to Bremerton, we asked about places to eat. The diner was one of the top recommended and it ended up being half a mile from our house. It was one of the first places I tried and was so happy to see cinnamon french toast on the menu. That is how I've always made french toast and it is great. I got my daughter the teddy bear pancake and she loves it. We try to go atleast once every 2 weeks and the waitresses know us pretty well. I was actually suprised when I heard some friends mention the diner not being child friendly because they have been nothing but child friendly to my toddler.

Great prices and great food! I came here for breakfast and got a chicken fried steak for $10.95. The diner theme here is great! They also have various knick-knacks for sale. I found some books that contain information regarding years people were born. They contained ads from the year, gas prices and many more cool facts about the year you were born. Very unique and cool! The only thing I didn't like about the diner was there was a banquet table set up for people to eat on. Kind of cheesy and very uncomfortable, I'm happy I didn't sit there. I would definitely recommend to a friend though!

Hands down best French onion soup this side of the Mississippi!!! Malts & milkshakes as good as they come! Never had a bad experience and very speedy & courteous service.

We had an excellent experience here. Big Apple diner had great food, friendly staff, and an awesome atmosphere. I enjoyed the Denver omelette with fried red potatoes, and my husband enjoyed the corned beef hash. I definitely recommend Big Apple Diner. We're definitely coming back here.

We found this place from another site that said it was a great diner, and it was! Food was comfort style the whole way and the atmosphere was traditional diner out of the 50's and 60's including the music- fantastic. I had the liver and onions (how 50's) and it was good, not great but how good can that be in the first place? I loved it! The place was packed on a Saturday lunch, can't wait to back for a breakfast! Sherry was out waitress and she was great.

Haven't been here since I was little but used to love it there so decided to try it again. Me and my boyfriend went after I got off work, was greeted by a blond women who was completely rude to us off the bat waited for someone to come our table but wasn't acknowledged. Amanda was our server, she very nice and took our order and got it out with good speed, loved the food and definitely will be back. Only wish the customer service from the rest of the staff I other then our server would have been better instead of them ignoring us and standing in the corner talking the whole time.

I can understand that they were slammed today but there was only two of us and we waited for an hour and that was after we put our order in......i really love Red Apple Diner but a hour is nuts and should never have happened

Really Good Chowder. Good comfort food and fair prices.

Never had a bad experience food wise until today. I ordered the Santa Fe breakfast. Guacamole, sour cream and salsa with home made tortillas were great. The actual breakfast was lackluster. Eggs, cheese, tomato and black beans. If I wanted to eat a can of semi warm black beans i would have stayed at home and done so.

Yes, I'm a fan, always have been and always will be! Big Apple Diner (otherwise referred to as Red Apple Diner for many of us) is a true staple in our area. Here at Big Apple you get consistency, tried and true, good old fashioned, consistency. The service is always friendly, fast and good no matter what server you get. Many of the servers have been there for many years and yet they still have that smile on their face and in their greeting. Service has always been prompt from the time you sit down until you receive your check. They don't over serve, they just seem to know when the right time is to stop and check on you. Coffee is kept full, plates are cleared when empty, water refilled when 1/2 full... all the marks of great customer service. This visit had me enjoying a bacon cheeseburger and my lunch partner an omelet. I ordered extra bacon because who doesn't want extra bacon and wow, I definitely got extra bacon! Wonderful thick cut crispy yet meaty bacon on a juicy burger with plenty of tomato and lettuce. Not enough sauce for me but some extra mayonnaise had me needing extra napkins! The omelet was perfection on a plate, light and fluffy with plenty of stuffing for every bight to be exactly what was ordered. The hashbrowns were nice and crispy, just like ordered but they definitely need some salt. I didn't have a milk shake this time but that was an oversight on my part. Always, always, always get a milk shake, they are the best in town! Between myself, family and friends, I swear we've had everything on the menu and I'm happy to say, everything has been consistently good. It's hot, it's what we ordered and it's delivered with a smile. Can't really ask for more than that! Oh, and they have SPAM!! In case you're wondering why four instead of five stars, it just has to do with the cleanliness. Sometimes it's cleaner than others but it could stand to take a day off and get scrubbed from top to bottom, especially along the edges and the bathrooms.

Spacious and a menu with good variety. Our waitress was Sandy. She was amazing. I just moved up here, and this was the first place I ate at! After a 22 hour straight road trip, I had the Coconut Almond Waffle- and WOW. It was the best waffle I've ever had. The environment is a very clean 50's diner feel. Would love to eat here again.

Went here on Saturday around 8:45 with my two kids and were seated right away. They both ordered the teddy bear pancake which was huge. Came with peaches, strawberries, bananas and whip cream for decoration. Only $3.95 per kids meal and included a beverage. I went for the basics, two eggs scrambled, O'Brien potatoes and toast. Potatoes could have been a bit crisper but still yummy. Not the most amazing breakfast food but good old fashion diner breakfast. Will definitely go back. By the time we left around 9:30 there was a decent wait so I'd recommend going before 9.

  • Koya M.

Cute little place. Service was a bit slow for just two people. There seemed to be only one waitress.. Which was strange because we went at dinner time. We ordered the chicken strip basket, apple pie a la mode, & a smores shake. Prices were good, portions were good, but overall the food was just okay.

Per Yelp, Big Apple is the most popular breakfast spot in Bremerton, so last Sunday we gave it a whirl. One comment about Bremerton itself, what a scenic town - with about 35 million inlets from Puget Sound coursing through the city. We came pretty early (around eight) so we were seated immediately. But when we left there was a fierce waiting list with people spilling out into the parking lot. Big Apple (bedecked with a 50s theme) is a smoothly run operation, with a legion of staff efficiently taking/delivering orders and refilling beverage cups. We were seated by a rather massive, but quiet, orange juice squeeze machine. So of course, we ordered orange juice. Along with the orange juice, JP requested the Idaho trout, and I asked for steak. Sure, the orange juice squeezer is a fun novelty, but how well did it do the OJ? I wondered how it was going to extract juice, but nothing else. It didn't turn out so hot. The juice had a pungent overwhelming flavor of orange peel. However, the rest of our food was good. The trout was seasoned well and my steak was tender and cooked to specification. But while they were otherwise okay, the scrambled eggs were in curious pieces about the size of rice grains. The hash browns were rather underdone, but still decent. You pay at the cash register. The location of the register is a little awkward, because as you stand at the counter, you block staffers from entering/exiting the kitchen. Still, overall a satisfactory breakfast. But I do need to mention the Johnny's Salt we saw on our table. I looked at its contents label. It's MSG with a little seasoning. Somewhat alarmed, I checked with our server to see if it was used in our dishes. She assured us that none of the menu items contained Johnny's Salt, but that they did use it in some of their condiments, like potato salad.

I tried this place based off some of your reviews... The service was good, and fast... However, I would rather wait 20 mins for amazing food, than get my food in 2 mins. It tasted like it was prepared in 2 mins. The quality was slop. The potatoes looked good on the plate. Take a bite, not crisp, soggy and bland. Eggs Benedict... They use thin deli sliced ham. I'm curious if these people who write the reviews are biased. Know someone. Or do they really have poor knowledge for what is actually good?! Breakfast is my passion. I've spend years finding the best breakfast places to eat in the town I live in... Now that I visit this area, and may live here again my journey now continues. This place isn't bad. Go if you just want food. But if you want great food, this is not the place for you or me...

I have to say, there is comfort food, and there is comfort food, and this place has great comfort food! Ya know, an average menu, with above average grub and reasonable prices. Try the chicken friend streak. Yeah, that is good stuff. My arteries hate it, but my mouth loves it!

Really like this out of way diner. Very comfort food oriented. Got Salisbury steak and a orange cream soda. The soda was killer with a heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream. Awesome! The pies were really great too! Ordered pork chops, stew, and Salisbury steak. The portions are generous even on the Senior menu. Service was quick and efficient. The drinks were out really quick. The counter area had old time candy and knick knacks for purchase. Been here 3X since finding it.

Been going here for years. Big portions and great price. We always come here for breakfast. Staff is friendly. There's usually a wait time, of course, because the food is always great!

I don't know why people are giving this diner 5 stars. I ordered the chicken fried steak with meat gravy with pancakes. My pancakes came out first and they were nothing exciting, the pancakes tasted like boxed pancakes. When the chicken fried steak came out the gravy was watery and it looked like vomit. My meat was overcooked and hard to cut. The gravy was nasty. I didn't like anything about my food. I would not be coming back.

This is one of my family's favorite Bremerton restaurants! They have the best shakes around, and can make just about any flavor you want (mint Oreo, strawberry with brownie chunks, chocolate peanut butter banana). They have a very diverse menu at very reasonable prices. Breakfast is served all day. Try a caramel Coke or the toasted almond coconut waffle. Just be aware, although we've never had bad service, sometimes it's absolutely stellar and sometimes it's just eh. But even picky eaters will find something to enjoy here! That's what keeps us coming back!

I have ordered Tuna melt before. This time the cook did not care how it was prepared, UNSat!!!!!

  • S H.

food was not hot, sausage gravy was very bad, nice atmosphere for a dinner style. Pancakes tasted like onions for 3 of the dinners I was with. Would not go back, locals WAY over rate this but it is better than denny's and that's all they have here.

  • Sameen G.

Extensive menu selection and everything we ordered was pretty tasty, but it's your typical diner food and nothing to write home about. Still, service was speedy and the place is decked out all 50's, so it's a fun choice for a weekend breakfast.

WARNING: magnificent run-on sentence incoming! This 'short' review reflects the speed at which our orders were served after they were placed, how long it took us to eat as much of our meals as possible so as not to appear wasteful, the length of time we sat twiddling our thumbs after our plates were cleared before we decided to beat it, and the mad dash I made for the medicine cabinet to grab the bottle of Tums when we got home. Want more bang for your hard-earned buck at dinnertime? Cross the street to Juanito's Taco Shop. Not joking. Don't waste your money at the Big Apple Diner if you want a decent evening meal in the neighborhood. Our orders were taken quickly enough after we were seated. What floored us was how much quicker they were served--under 5 minutes. "That quick?! This concerns me," said the partner. After just one bite, he swore his chili burger tasted like it came out of a can of Hormel's. I also understood why our waitress did not ask how I wanted my burger cooked when I requested the Swiss Burger--it showed up completely well-done. Bleeeeayeuch!. The decision to pass on dessert was made before we even reached the midway point of our meals. We just could not wait to get the hell out. I am actually sad that I had to chew on Tums the minute we got home. What a dismal way to end a meal, even if it was a touch gross to begin with. Bleeeeayeuch!

Where to start....Worst dining experience I've encountered by far. Our food was served to us in 30 minutes & we watched 2 tables sit down and gotten their food before us. When we got our food, my prime rib ( I asked for med/rare) was fully cooked & dry. My daughter's Swedish pancakes tastes doughy with a tint of b.o! Our side of apple sausages we burnt and dry too. I bothered to give it 1 star because the potatoe cakes my son ordered were good. Out of all this from the manager was a sorry kitchen excuse & my prime rib was taken off. Overall.... not worth my time & money.

Love this place! Great retro feel, food is delicious & the staff is super friendly! $2.50 for a cup of diner coffee though? C'mon guys! Other than that this place is perfect!

I've eaten in a ton of Diners all around the US. I was hopeful this would be a Bremerton Wa. area gem. At is turned out it was another disappointment. I wouldn't say it was bad but not remarkable and not remarkably good. My wife ordered the Honey dipped Chicken. It was overdone and bland. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak. The gravy was bland as well and cold on top of my breaded steak The Diner is nothing to write home about, but since Bremerton is now my home then I will keep searching for another gem. I doubt we would come back again.

Great early morning breakfast with an attentive staff. Very reasonable prices that is a way better choice than IHOP or Denny's. The chicken apple sausage is my favorite with the German potato pancakes falling a very close second.

Great service and great food. Their freshly squeeze orange juice is a must try. I haven't tried their dinners yet but we do frequent the area for brunch. Hubby loves their malt shakes.

Loved the old fashioned decor and random items for sale when you walked in everything else was less than impressive. We had to ask other waiters for drink refills etc b/c our waiter we only saw a few times to take our order, drop off drinks and food and to deliver the check. The food was gross, my order had so much sauce it was dripping on the table, my mother-in-laws steak was burnt and my husbands meal was dry and took forever to arrive when the restaurant was less than half full. Overall thought it was overpriced ($6 for 3 cups of coffee) and not worth taking bad leftovers home.

We frequent this place for breakfast often . This time for dinner. Service was OK But the food was less than desirable. Chicken was over cooked. Onion rings were burnt. Sent it all back. Left hungry

This is old style dining and I love it! The milkshakes were amazing! You had a plethora if flavored and toppings to choose from, anything your mind could imagine! The food was delicious for a burger and fry type if joint. I will definitely visit again when we are in the area. The only downer is the service wasn't fantastic. No one seemed excited to be there. I feel like in that type of establishment people should be smiling and a little more bubbly when they greet you and take your order. We will still come back though. :)

We had a huge chocolate milkshake where they bring you what won't fill the glass. The French Dip was delicious and so was their breakfast sampler platter. Delicious and even though it was super busy, everyone was so polite and friendly.

Great food at decent prices. It is a typical local place to eat. Good service with good food. I ate breakfast here, so I cannot tell you about the other meals, but the breakfast here was served quick and the servings were generous. Each time I am in the area, I make it a point to stop here for their breakfast.

I have been going here since it opened. I love the 50's theme and music. I always recommend this place to new people. The prime rib dinners on Friday night are the best. The next day are the prime rib breakfast.

I've been going here for years and usually its great food! This last time, it was just terrible. I've always loved their burgers there. They have always been juicy and cooked great. I decided on the burger dip since I couldn't make up my mind if I wanted a french dip or a burger. The burger was greasy, the au jus was overly salty. I'm a salt fan when it comes to au jus but this was almost inedible. The fries were undercooked. I don't mind a bit of a "bite" but these were no way near cooked. My friend ordered the special which was advertised as a meatloaf sandwich with sweet potato fries. The "meatloaf" had no season and looked like my burger split in half. It was on cold white bread. No ketchup, sauce, or anything to make it appear to be meatloaf. Sweet potato fries were just okay. Nothing special about them. Service was good even though they were packed. No empty seats in the place. I'm giving them that second star just for that. I'm kind of sad that it wasn't good. I love coming here when I'm in the area.

Popped in here for breakfast and was pretty happy with everything. The freshly squeezed orange juice was good, the hashbrowns were crispy and the bacon was perfect.

First off: Appearance! I love the old time diner feel this place has. Second: This place is always busy, because the food is good, the service is quick, and always friendly. Lastly: The food! The food is always fresh. Always hot, always delicious. The price is appropriate for the amount of food you get. Great for a morning breakfast with friends, or a cute first date idea.

Solid 3.5 for me. A bit too greasy, but they handle the basics well. This is the quintessential greasy spoon diner. Menu looks good and I'd like to try it again at some point. Would definitely recommend it as a stick-to-your-ribs kind of breakfast treat.

I thought this place was a refreshing change from Denny's. We went later in the evening so they were dead and we got a good amount of attention from the waitress. The french onion soup and french dip were pretty good. Hubby wasn't crazy about the chili, said it tasted like tomato paste overkill. We may stop by the next time we're in Kitsap.

Standard 50s dinner food. We went there for dinner on a Wednesday night. The menu had a lot of choices and the kids menu was well priced with quite a few options. They had highchairs, boosters and crayons. I loved all the milk shake flavors - they even have specialty flavors. Excellent customer service and they were very kind and patient with my young toddler. My only complaint was that the chocolate cream pie was practically flavorless and lumpy.

  • Timothy A.

Good service, good food that is about what you would expect for the price. I was pretty impressed with how quickly we were seated on a late-ish Saturday morning. The portions were big and tasted good. Overall, good value.

A long time had passed since our last visit to the Big Apple Diner. Fourteen years and four kids to be exact. I wasn't sure if the place would have changed much. To my amazement nothing had really changed. The staff was still friendly and the food seemed better than I had remembered. We were a party of six and the food came quickly and was all correct. My oldest had the shrimp Benedict which he loved. My only complaints would be that the bathroom was but in the nasty side and they had a portable table and six potable chairs in the middle of the dining area. I understand that things break and a quick fix is necessary, but it gives a bad first impression. Overall, a nice dining experience for all of us.

Came here with a girlfriend, who told me they had really good, home cooked diner food. I was really excited to try this place, as I had heard good things about it before from others, also. When you walk in the door, you walk through a little gift shop area that sells cute knick knacks. We were immediately seated and drink orders were taken. After perusing the menu, my friend decided on the hash and eggs, while I opted for the biscuits and gravy with a side of hashbrowns. The waiter suggested I order a half order of biscuits and gravy because with the hashbrowns it would be a large portion...I'm so glad I did! The good: Cute decor (old style diner), friendly service, fresh squeezed orange juice, hash looked amazing and friend confirmed the deliciousness of her meal! The portions of both meals were huge :) The bad: My biscuits and gravy sucked! I was really excited to try it, and being a southern girl I really love some biscuits and gravy, but these were the worst. The biscuits were really dense and tasteless. The gravy was flavorless with a runny consistency. Really disappointed and really wishing I had ordered the hash! The okay: Hashbrowns were meh, crunchy on top, mushy on the bottom, with no distinguishing taste. Prices, moderate considering the portions. Overall, I think I will I will give this place another chance, but definitely will be trying something different....maybe the hash :)

My family spent a week or so on the peninsula visiting friends and family and hanging out at a lake. We occasionally ventured out for food, but mostly we played in the water. Still, Breakfast called. We love breakfast. On a prior visit my brother's BFF, who is a foodie, sent us to the Big Apple Diner for a meal. We enjoyed that. So I racked my brain and came up with "red apple diner" and we managed to drive around and find it using my poor memory.. well, I was close, come on. And, It used to be by the Red Apple Market, I think. It is a cute fifties style diner with small tables in a small space. It was super crowded for a summer Tuesday at 10:30 I thought, and we had a considerable wait. More than thirty minutes. There was a group of 15 ladies at a long row of tables, which was most of the tables on one side of the diner. I glared at them so they would leave. They didn't care and piddled around gabbing and being friendly rather than leaving when they were done eating. Even the servers were eyeing them in "come on leave now " encouragement. But hey, no problem, they have a gifty section by the register so your kids can whine and complain that they want stuff. My kid scored a stuffed kitty cat with a pen in it's tail. She paid for it herself though. Finally we were seated by a pleasant server, who took our order quickly and brought us coffee almost immediately. I like her! The three adults ate the usual breakfast stuff, my mom had scrambled eggs and toast, my husband had french toast stuffed with eggs and ham and cheese, I think, or maybe it was sausage.. he said he thinks he likes the meat and sweet separated bettter and wouldn't do it again but it was prepared nicely, so it was more about him than the cook. I had eggs with bacon and toast, it was fine. My kid had a grilled cheese sandwich and a rootbeer float with fries, she was in heaven... lots of ketchup action. All in all the meal was tasty, it was delivered with a smile, and it was clean and bright. I think we weren't expecting a gourmet experience, but it was kind of down home, and next time we're up there we will probably go again. It was a LITTLE bit on the high side for breakfast, but I think it's because we're not used to that nasty sales tax they have in states other than Oregon. ( what is THAT about!).

I have been here a few times now. I defintely prefer the breakfast over the lunch/dinner items. They have great breakfast food (especially the hasbrowns). Fun little shop/store at the front. The prices are decent and they have a good kids menu. The restaurant is usually dirty and the service is O.K.

This place is my favorite diner in Bremerton. It's a definitive step back into the past. Their menu is pretty robust. There's a wide variety of food and it's all pretty good. It's not high dinning, but it's a fun place to go with family or friends. Their pies and desserts are something to save room for here. They have a lot of shake and malt flavors.

  • Hillary C.

A 50's style diner. Plenty of attendants, didn't wait long to be seated or to order. Had big apple burger. Burger itself was a little dry, lettuce and tomatoes were fresh, thousand islands sauce was good. Didn't think a half pound of meat would mean that I didn't finish my fries. They were good: skin on, thick, crunchy on outside soft on inside. Had a chocolate malt shake which was good. Wish I had seen the drink menu before I ordered though, which has all the flavors and candy toppings available. Overall good experience. I love these dinners, but hate the grease. Big apple dinner food isn't greasy.

  • Chris B.

It's a diner, everything is as expected, nothing less and just a little more. I've had the French Toast, the Reuben, and the German Potato Pancakes. The latter was the best! Also had a caramel Coke and a few other custom specials. Nice little fountain drink from the past. Haven't tried desert yet, always too full. My kids love it.

For months and month, my boyfriend talked about this place and how great the food was for a great price, but could never remember where it was and never remembered to Google it. We happened upon it one day and what can I say... Grilled cheese, fries, and milkshakes are my go-to at diners and they did not disappoint. It was delicious. The waitress was quick to help us, quick to serve the food, and happy to answer any questions we had (we were a little lost with our driving). I would come back here in a heartbeat. Diner food is comfort food and in this world, comfort is all a person ever needs.

I had dinner at the Big Apple last night with my family. It was only my second time eating there, but the service was SO BAD that I HAD to update my review and drop it by one star. Everything was slow. Agonizingly slow. The place was busy, but not full. We ordered a milk for my son. First she brought root beer. No, we asked for milk. Five minutes later, she returned with CHOCOLATE milk (which my son doesn't like). No, we asked for MILK. Five minutes later she returned this time with milk. Another thing that bothered me is how quickly the charges add up there. The milk for one son and apple juice for another son came in extremely small cups (I'd guess 5 oz) and they do not give free refills. The food was still delicious. My eldest son raved about how good his cheeseburger was. My youngest son devoured his pancake. I thought the feta cheese & spinach scramble was delicious. We all enjoyed our food, and I am SURE we will be going back to the Big Apple Diner again, but the service was bad enough to warrant an adjustment to my rating for the restaurant.

  • Krystal A.

The big apple burger was not to bad the patty was a little dry but the toppings were fresh. The food was not to greasy the fries were thick n good. The ribeye steak n prawns was ok. It was hard to cut my medium steak with the steak knife they gave me if you could call it that. The prawns were very good. My ice cream float was great it came with a plate underneath so it would not get everywhere. The service was ok for a semi packed place. But if you enjoy a old time atmosphere here you go. All in all not a bad place.

  • Karlee K.

I remember going here I was younger and LOVED it. But maybe that's just because I got ice cream afterwards... Any who, I've gone twice in the past few months hoping to fall in love again. But it feels forced. Not digging the big apple anymore. Portions size is okay. Flavor is...distant. Prices are alright. I'm sorry Big Apple, its not me, its you.

This is my favorite breakfast spot in town. I'm not a huge fan of 50's style diners. They always feel a bit cheesy to me. The Big Apple Diner does have a 50's theme going, but the decor which might be a little distracting at first fades when the food arrives. I think I have been here 6 or 7 times and mostly for breakfast. They handle all the basics well. Pancakes, waffles, eggs, etc ... no complaints. The eggs benedict was a little disappointing however. The sauce was just lifeless. Sad! One visit for lunch found me ordering the burger. Swiss burger with mushrooms. Very tasty. I read here on yelp about a crumbling patty, not the case on my burger! Juicy and well balanced with the toppings. I love a big breakfast on a lazy day, and the other offerings in town have just been a let down. Big Apple Diner is a bright spot for breakfast in the area, worth a try for sure!

My dad has always taken me to this place when I was little. I am happy to say that the food is still good diner food and the milkshakes are just as I remember. The menu is far larger than it used to be, but I decided to try their corned beef hash and I was not disappointed. Everything was cooked perfectly and it was delicious. The best thing about this place would have to be the fries and milkshakes. Everyone must try this place once!

My wife and I recently started going here and we both like it a lot. Their burgers are the best I've had in the area, their club sandwich is great, and my wife gets the tuna melt every single time we go. Their coffee rocks.

I use to live close for a year and Big Apple Diner and have been here many times in the past. The interior is your classic diner, checker board floor dinning tables like Grand Ma had and a great counter with stools that you can step right up and have a meal. The menu is really good across the board, from the breakfast, to sandwiches (hot and cold,) to the diner dinner classics. They have all types of fountain and soda drinks as well as shakes and malts. One of my favorites is the Orange Creamsicle Shake, so good! Reminds me of the old school orange push up from the ice cream truck. The pies and cakes are really impressive as well. Just good down home made food.

I was so amped to go out to breakfast that my mouth was watering from five miles away. Then of course, I was overwhelmed by the decor and crowd at this joint, and it wound up taking me nearly a half hour to decide what to eat. I wanted to order about seven meals, a malt, and a milkshake, but I was reasonable. I wound up ordering a breakfast...maybe called the German breakfast (?)...which was perfect because it had a bit of many things: potato pancakes (German style with ham in them...totally not kosher), apple-chicken sausage, crepes, and I think there were two silver dollar pancakes thrown in for good measure and another reason to eat syrup and butter. I also got some fresh squeezed o.j., because I am a freak for it, and a good cuppa joe. Everything was "nummerslicious," as my man says, and our server was really sweet and patient with my indecision too. My man ordered a burger and fries. The burger was ginourmous, but also juicy and well topped and fries were good. The prices were all totally reasonable and average. I'm really excited to return and try more of their overwhelmingly large meals. I hear the malts/shakes are killer too.

This place is kinda meh. The food is ok, although kind of expensive for what you get. The service is meh. Our food is always kind of lukewarm like it's been sitting in the window too long. The coffee is bleh. Cute atmosphere, but I prefer Hi-los.

Nice, simple spot. Clean, attentive and good food. Priced right. I had a tuna melt - pretty tough to wreck. Good taste and texture. Fries not overdone. $7.95. 50's and 60's rock and roll music in the background. Waitress Sherry was friendly without being gushy. About my only negative - at 6PM on a weekday the place was packed, but very few people under 40 yrs old. Kinda creepy! Will be back.

Pretty much all of the best parts of America all in one place. Want grandma's apple pie? Got it. Amazing breakfast with a great cup of coffee? Go no place else. Hankering for some comfort food with a malt shake to wash it down? You'll find none better. Add to that the classic diner decor and oldies music playing all day- when you walk out of here youll be ready to salute the first bald eagle you see.

The eggs Benedict was almost indelible. It was submerged in congealed hollandaise sauce and the ham was very salty. Not good at all. My husband had soggy French toast. We will probably not try this place again

Not much needs to be said. Good food, good prices, great Irish cream shake. Service is friendly, but nothing above average. Sadly, it's a bit out of the way for regular appearances.

We went here for breakfast after reading some yelp reviews. I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the veggie eggs benedict florentine, which had spinach, onions and mushrooms. I decided to add bacon, which wasn't too much extra. The food was delicious. The only draw back was the o'brien potatoes. They were a little over cooked. Next time I'd just order the hash browns, since they looked better. Good coffee also.

Hallelujah for Waffles!!! Coming from the east coast where there is a diner on every corner, I as overwhelmed with happiness when I learned from a friend that there actually was on here in kitsap county. Although I was skeptical that anyone could come close to a Baltimore Diner, I must say that Big Apple went far above and beyond my expectations. I was so happy to walk in and be kindly seated in a little booth that I think I almost go teary eyed. Our waitress, Sherry, was friendly, inviting, helpful... amazing! Forget Ruth's Chris and the Four Seasons- I'll take a good ol' diner any time! Michael (the husband) got the German pancakes, which I had some of and they were delicious! Never had anything like it. I, of course, got a waffle, and an omelet which were both made to perfection. The great thing about this place is that, yes, it's a diner, but it's actually so SO much more! They have cool things on the menu that I haven't seen before, like french toast that is stuffed with eggs, bacon, or sausage.... and they make their own corned beef- No crap from a can stuff-which I'm gonna try next time. This place is a little jewel, and I adore it.

We were visiting Brementon this weekend and stumbled into this cute, 50s themed breakfast joint. The server was super friendly and the veggie omelet I had was way more delicious than I imagined. The omelet was not greasy at all, and I was able to enjoy the yummy veggies inside. We'd definitely like to go back to enjoy their pies and milk shakes! :)

This place...is an awesome little find. Kind of a back-road type place, definitely a local favorite, and a spot I personally look forward to stopping at. It's the perfect in between location between a friend's house and my own, so I'm a frequent breakfaster. Honestly? The menu is hit or miss. I haven't had a lot of luck with their omelettes, but after a couple of trial and error experiences I have some solidified favorites, including their bacon, French toast, and BLT. Never tried dinner, maybe sometime soon! Service is always WONDERFUL. Prompt, attentive, kind, and helpful. They keep the coffee coming, although you're limited to half and half in containers on the table for creamer. I've found it's crammed on weekend mornings, shocker, but my service has never been substandard even considering rushes. The vibe is so cute! Totally fifties, good music, cool booths, and fun wall decor. My only words of caution would be to order carefully, especially if you're a picky foodie, some of the menu descriptions sound fancy, but are lacking in quality. Nothing that's really out of ordinary for a kitsap county diner though :)

German potato pancakes!!! :D Everything else is tasty too. The sausage gravy is made with bratwurst which is really interesting.

Have eaten here several times since the first time in 2003. The food is very good! From the breakfast (eggs benedict a fav) to the Rueben sandwich for lunch to the chef salad for dinner. It's all very good. Nice atmosphere, great service, generous portions and a fair price!

meh....the fresh oj was good...everything else was just meh. I got the potatoes o'brien...asked them to a add more veggies to them....the water seemed kinda confused by this.....he was like "what like spinach??"..at which i was like "yah.....sure...and other vegetables??" they came out as potatoes with spinach and tomatoes...they forgot the o'brien bit(onions and peppers) and they forgot the side of avocado i asked for...i had to hunt down the waiter to get some my friend ordered a grilled cheese sandwich....the cheese was standard processed yellow orange and was not even melted...she took a few bites and was over it....i ate a couple of her fries...they were ok...just fries...nuthin special. i might give this place another chance...if i'm in the neighbor hood...but there's no way i'm gonna make any effort to go there

My husband and I have been here for breakfast and lunch and we have always loved our food! For breakfast I got the breakfast sandwich and it was sooo good! The fried red potatoes are so great! When we had lunch here I had a cheeseburger with bacon and it was good too! I had never had a banana split before and my husband got me one here and it was amazing! We will definitely become regulars here!

Ive been to this place several times and my experience for the most part is excellent. When I think of comfort food or a good breakfast place I would think about this place. The staff is friendly and the food is great. I have tried their monster burger and various breakfast and lunch plates - all good. This place is definitely a notch above your Dennys and IHOPs of the world.

Probably the best place in Kitsap county to eat. Large variety and helpings are generous. You won't go away hungry! Service is friendly and quick and the atmosphere and music are fun.

Nice atmosphere and good selection to choose from. Fairly good prices for what you get. I would't rate the food a five but some meals are better than others. The one pound burger will hurt you! Fries are very good and the milk shakes are a 10. This is worth the 30 minute drive.

My lady and I had breakfast here this past Sunday and the crowd of people waiting to get a table around 10:30am said it all. This place has fans. We had a Greek omelette with O'Brien potatoes and the House Plate which includes apple chicken sausage, a potato pancake, a Swedish pancake, some small traditional cakes and applesauce. The syrup arrived warm, service was precise and prompt once we were seated. And the fresh OJ was very good as other reviewers have already noted. We would definitely make the journey to upper Kitsap Way again. I would give an extra star except they were way off on the length of the wait when we put our name on the list. Also my companion is a very harsh critic of biscuits, and theirs were not up to her standards. The omelette would be better if the eggs had a bit more fluff.

Yesterday morning I made my way back to the Big Apple Diner. Haven't eaten there for a few years so I wanted to see if the food was still as good as I remembered it to be. I ordered the Big Apple Breakfast and choose pancakes over the hash browns. I ordered my eggs scrambled. So here goes... The pancakes were huge and yummy. The syrup was luke warm unfortunately. The sausages needed a bit more cooking time (needed to be browned on outside and warmer on inside). I only ate half of my sausages as I got turned off by the image of the undercooked pork. The eggs were unsalted (good for those watching their salt intake). The decor and background music was nice. Oldies but goodies wafted through the dining area. In all, very dineresque. An OK experience in all, but it could have been better if a bit more care went into the breakfast food.

Went in for lunch because I had always wanted to try an authentic diners food. I ordered a hamburger and it wasn't good at all. I am pretty sure they use the same meat for their meatloaf as burger patties. Over seasoned and just crumbles apart. Very disappointed.

Tried Big Apple Diner for the first time today and thought it was pretty good. I had eggs, hashbrowns, and toast. I thought the hashbrowns were crunchy and delicious. The eggs and toast were good too, but the same as I've had at other breakfast places. Eggs and toast are pretty much the same anywhere you go and hard to ruin. I also had a glass of the freshly squeezed orange juice which tasted fresh and wasn't too tart. My husband had a hamburger with O'Brien potatoes and said the hamburger was tasty and the potatoes delicious. The prices were average for a restaurant in the area and the service was great. We'll definitely be going back to try some of the other items on the menu. I'm very interested in trying one of the hamburgers and a milkshake/malted. They have a long list of different milkshakes they can make so I'm excited about trying one of them.

If you are looking for a good spot to reminisce about the good ol' days over a burger and a milkshake, Red Apple Diner on Kitsap Way in Bremerton, WA is the place for you. 50's era music plays in the background as you take in the atmosphere of the diner. We have eaten here many times, and you can't beat the fresh orange juice, delicious french fries and yummy shakes. There is plenty of seating for everyone and every size. Our booth would have seated 6 comfortably. The prices are reasonable, the diner is clean and the wait staff are friendly as all get out.

I was not impressed...typical greasy spoon diner (maybe a small improvement over Denny's). I got the Sante Fe breakfast: eggs with black beans, salsa, tortillas, etc. It was somewhat edible. The flour tortillas were stale and hard and the cheese was flourescent orange and tasted like plastic. Services was ok, I had to ask to have the table wiped down as there was what I hoped was chocolate smeared on it. Prices were not super cheap, most breakfasts were around $10.

Loved it! Took my 12 year old son there last weekend, on recommendation of a co-worker and friend (Thanks M!). My son LOVES diners, and he was all over it. He had the chicken tender basket, and both the chicken and fries were great, and he thought the salad was large enough he only ate a bit to save room for the main course. I had the club sandwich, and it was love at first bite. Served on toasted sourdough, it was way too big for one meal, and the fries are darn tasty, especially if you add the seasoning they have at each table. As a testament to to the sandwich, it made 2 small meals, one later that night and one lunch the next day, and it was just as tasty, with not a hint of sogginess. We will definitely be back. Between the food, good service and decor, it's going to be one of 'our' spots!

If you want a good breakfast in kitsap county this is a safe bet. Just be weary of the time, you try to get in here on a sunday mid morning, be prepared to wait, they are ALWAYS slammed! Try the fresh squeezed orange juice. They Squeeze it for every order.

  • Cynthia M.

The rating is just for the food. We had great service. Nice, friendly wait staff. Breakfast was really disappointing. The rolled crepes were doughy and tasteless. My egg was lukewarm. the other egg order was suspected to be "non-egg"...disguised as scrambled eggs. The apple sausages were good. The potato pancake was so-so. Glad I didn't order the Benedict! The place is really cute inside - a la fifties. Too bad about the un-tasty food, guys.

This place is off the hook! I have always been there for breakfast/brunch, but I am not sure there is really another time to go (I am sure they have good lunch/dinner too, but Bfast is SO good). This is a true diner experience complete with bar seating if the wait gets too long on a Saturday morning. The waitresses/waiters have the NYC type charm and charisma a good diner person should. The seating is all booth and metal rim tables. Extensive omlet menu that is AMAZING. I am usually the type that finds something somewhere and keeps with it every time because it is a safe bet. All the omlets here are a safe bet. The OJ is fresh squeezed and tastes very true to eating an actual orange. Classic Bfast items do not miss the mark either. If you have never been, I would suggest going a weekend morning and trying an omlet with OJ. Mmmmm I would be here every weekend if I didn't live a couple hours away...

Best diner in western washington. The food is always good, the service is always great! I was a regular here when I lived in Bremerton, and now that I live in Seattle, I still stop in here whenever I'm in the area. Awesome place.

I Had Brunch here with Mike. W. & Other Secret people =D. Red Apple Diner is My Favorite place in Kitsap County to have a Great Breakfast!! IHOP, Denny's & Sharri's should all come here for Breakfast & Lunch, I'm sure they'll most definitely have a Grand Time. Good Old 50's Style Diner that Serves some Quality Stuff.

    (4)
  • Miki M.

Yes, this place is OK, but if you are southern NEVER order biscuits & gravy at any place around here. They do NOT know how to make it. Most places make a breakfast, lunch, and dinner that is OK. The service here is OK. However, there are times that you just want to get up and leave.

    (3)
  • Sandy S.

The BEST breakfast anywhere! You get big portions for the price, everything is cooked perfectly and dripping in grease or butter!! Gosh it doesn't get any better than that! I will admit, I have never eaten here for anything but breakfast, but the breakfasts are so great, it is impossible for me to think of any other reason to come here. I love the whole old 50's diner motiff, the staff is warm and friendly, the clientele is also. Expect long waits on a Saturday or Sunday in the summer for breakfast, it is what it is. Everybody and anybody goes here for breakfast, if you have guests from out of town, this is where you bring them. I am making myself hungry just thinking about them. A must do breakfast place! Let me know how the other meals are, won't you?

    (5)
  • Glen M.

Extremely diverse menu, with generous portions for good prices. This seems to me straightforward diner fare, with nothing really exceptional but nothing wrong either. I will say the milkshakes and malts are outstanding though! Service is quick and attentive. Not a destination, but as a local diner it's just right!

    (4)
  • Yasmien H.

The food was good, the service was prompt. It was delicious or anything, I wouldn't make a special trip here, but if I was in the neighborhood and hungry, I would stop by here in an instant.

My boys LOVE Red Apple Diner. The service can be slow but I think It's because they are stuck in the 1950's. It's a nice little greasy spoon restaurant that has plenty to choose from. I usually just get the special of the day and the daily soup. I can honestly say that I've never been disappointed with their food. It makes up for the lack of service.

    (4)
  • Adrian R.

I guess I'm going to have to be that guy that knocks on this place, but after returning here twice I'm not really figuring out what makes people love this place so much. Maybe greasy and cheap just isn't enough for me. The thing that's really huring this place for me is that the hashbrowns have been undercooked and white the both times. Dishes have been of varying levels of warmth. I might come back at some point but I honestly just don't see why. Maybe a milkshake or something.

  • Andrew P.

One of my favorite diners in the county. Sure it's a greasy spoon that serves typical diner fare, but they're pretty good at it. They make a tasty burger and a mighty fine milkshake, and the breakfast dishes are some of the best around.

    (4)
  • Mike S.

My friends and I have had breakfast here nearly every weekend for years and years. They have some interesting menu items along with all the great American classics. Service is almost always great, especially considering they are crazy busy on weekend mornings. Expect a wait if you come at 10am on a Sunday. You have unreasonable expectations or just had bad luck if you weren't happy. These people know what they're doing.

  • Jo S.

I love this place! I have never been to breakfast but lunch and dinner several times. Jay and I eat out here several times a week when he is home on leave. I love love the clam strip plate and the Captain's seafood plate - the prices are awesome. The service can be hit or miss. I guess we all have off days. Jay usually has a malt because they are the best! This is one of our favorite places and when we are in other states we are always looking for some place that is "like the Big Apple Dinner" they set the bar for our 50's type dinner!

The location stinks. Middle of nowhere and their parking lot is too small. HOWEVER- this is one of my favorite places to eat! I don't think the menu is too pricey, I suppose that depends on what you order. Steak isnt really cheap (relativly) anywhere! *stubborn* Anyway, the John's Breakfast is an amazing and tasty option for the vegetarian crowd and all lovers of spinach alike! I won't go through the whole menu, cause it'd take ages, but its a varrie menu with selections that everyone is bound to enjoy something. Only reason I didn't give this 5 full stars is my only complaint I have ever had there- NOT OPEN 24 HOURS and really, it should be!!! Breakfast is served all hours they are open though, and I dig that!

    (4)
  • Jon O.

IMHO this is as good as Original American diner food gets. They have my all time favorite breakfast, trout & eggs, and the eggs always come out over-medium, and with country gravy on top of the hash browns it's a true greasy-spoon feast. The ambiance is perfect as well - hardarmed men in guzzling coffee and talking shop, waitresses singing along to 50s classics, families with babies crawling all over the tables, and as diverse a counter clientele as you'll find in Kitsap County. Real sodas. Get a big hunk of carrot cake after your meal - who says there's no dessert after breakfast?

  • Susie C.

My family and I have been here a lot. The first few times was excellent, good service, great food, and a nice nostalgic feel in the atmosphere. The more and more we kept coming back, the less and less pleased I became. If this place has one thing going for it that will absolutely give it great reviews, its the milk shakes! So many flavors and combinations to choose from, pick your poison, get creative, and let your wildest milk shake dreams come true. But when it comes down to the food, its average at best. There really isn't anything that stands out anymore. I could walk into any diner across America and I wouldn't be able to pick this one out from the crowd based on food alone, and isn't that what we all strive for in diner food, something that stands out against the rest? Well, I can't say that I am so disappointed I won't ever come back, because when I crave a great milk shake and a burger, I'll come here. But when my taste buds start to tingle there are plenty of other places on my list that top this one!

Went here with my buddies after work one morning on the recommendation of another friend. The place was hopping and had a unique atmosphere. Unfortunately they food was inedible for all 5 of us. I had the biscuits and gravy and it was just off somehow. Won't ever go back.

I love this place, it's the place thats, "just around the corner". It's always full of locals, you can tell a ton of people are regulars. They're breakfast menu is huge, and even has a decent variety of things for those that dislike eggs. I really like their Monte Cristo, the french toast is crispy and not too eggy and the cheese is also melty and the meat slightly crispy on the edges. I've recommended this place to many friends and it's been loved by all. One word of advice, my husband, who is less familiar with diners, ordered a steak once, not so good. But everything else is great. Try their Green River soda!

I really thought I had Yelped this place already...but I must be imagining things in my old age. I've been here a few times with coworkers, trying out various salads and sandwiches. Most recently I came with Carla P and another friend to have breakfast for dinner (brenner?). I ordered the french toast which was good but made with a very thin, almost hard bread. I prefer my french toast softer and sugary (because I have the taste buds of a sugar addicted six year old) so I probably wouldn't order it again. Service is fine, food is fine, but it's not my favorite diner. I know tons of people who swear by this place though (hopefully Carla P will write a review soon since she's one of those folks).

ok.. i read good review on this restaurant and it wasn't too far from my house so i went there with my husband. my husband is from tiny town from old country so he likes this type of diner.. family owned, family oriented. but i could have gotten better food from family pancake restaurant than this place. service was super slow, this place is always packed so we have to wait all the time. it wasn't impressive.

  • Angie K.

This was my first time here. My husband and a friend and I decided to try it because I'd seen it's other reviews on Yelp. I thought it was really good. The were busy so the service was a little slow but nothing to complain about. I had the potato pancakes and they were very good. I might even say the best I've ever had, but that honor goes to Chases Pancake Corral in Bellevue. My husband was very happy with his tuna melt and fries. They have a very extensive menu and everything sounded very good. I will go here again but only when I have a lot of time to kill. It was located a little farther out than I expected it to be.

Top notch diner chow! This place has everything; BLTs, SPAM-LTs, Monte Cristo sandwiches, burgers, liver and onions, chicken fried steak, cherry Coke, and a herd of real live milkshakes. The whole deal. I've never been there when the service was not excellent. The prices are decent, and the atmosphere is family diner, just as it should be. And when you're paying your bill, you can buy some of that great candy you haven't seen since you were a kid (Cup O' Gold!). My family and I love this place - good, honest food.

  • Mike W.

I visited the Red Apple Diner with Alvin N. and we were both very satisfied with the food. The service was great too. My biggest problem was deciding what to order off of the menu. I was stuck for a few minutes between Corn Beef Hash, Spam + Eggs, and Chicken fried steak. I ended up going with the Chicken fried steak since it was the only item I didn't know how to cook up myself. The prices were also pretty good, at least competitive with the Denny's, Shari's, etc. If your in the mood for that kind of food, give the Red Apple Diner a try. It won't disappoint!

    (4)
  • Liz A.

This place looses it's 5th star for being in Kitsap County instead of Seattle! Great breakfasts, the fried red potatoes are the ultimate comfort food. This place has the look of a wholesome 50's dinner and the All-American cuisine to back it up! If you find yourself on the wrong side of the Puget Sound and need to get your grub on, don't settle for Denny's or Sherri's head straight to the Red Apple Dinner, your tummy will thank you!
