I love this place! I took my mom here for Mother's Day, and she loved it too. The environment is clean, classy, and comfortable. The food is always excellent, they have wonderful seafood entrees and also big juicy delicious burgers. This is one of my favorite places in Bellingham, easily!

I finally got to check out The Loft (I'd been avoiding it due to the mixed reviews on Yelp) but we went for happy hour last night and I was more impressed than I expected. They have a good happy hour beer/drink menu, and the food was pretty good (it's hard to beat a good burger and fries for $5 these days). The service was okay, but as busy as they were it seems they could have used another waitress or two. Something really needs to be done about the horribly uncomfortable seats, though. The barstools are about 10" square and made of very hard wood. We only stayed for one drink because our butts were falling asleep! Those things (the seats, not our butts) need some padding or something. Oh, the view of the marina and bay is incredible!

Amazing food! Enormous portions! Without us knowing they thought this was a little early so they brought us a free dessert. Cilantro lime tacos were great and dizzy. The burgers are so big you can hardly get your mouth around!

Great deal on bottles of wine on Wednesday. Service was rude and seemingly untrained. I had a group of nine, called 15 mins ahead, arrived to find no water or settings anywhere in an almost empty restaurant. We started to sit down when the hostess asked of we were the group that called. She asked us to follow her to the front desk so she could grab menus. We followed her past a suitable table and were seated at the same table. Server gave us a half a beer because keg had blown. Who does that?! Then another half beer of another kind. Brown lettuce on a burger.

Stiff drinks and fresh food. Menu changes a lot though. Mostly good customer service, although sometimes the servers do get a little chatty which can sometimes be annoying (personal preference.) love love love the location, and it's definitely a step up foe the tired Bayside Cafe. Nice atmosphere, never gets too loud to carry conversation. But what the hell is up with the name? Shorten it to The Loft, the rest is a mouthful (that no one ever remembers) and seems like they're trying too hard to be hip.

The seafood chimichanga is wonderful. Good service. Excellent sunset views.

I just got off the phone with the owner of this establishment. He had a great attitude and was more than happy to fix this issue to my satisfaction. Now that's customer service. Remember, when you have a bad experience with any business, give the owner a chance to fix the problem. It's only fair. Mistakes happen.

Over dressed salad, smaller than advertised portions, cold soggy French fries and a the time we waited for our food in the almost empty resteraunt was proportional with the price: really high. Would not go again

We often come down to the Bellingham marina and patronize Anthony's and Hearth fire. Decided to try something different tonight...BIG MISTAKE! !! I ordered a glass of wine and the calamari appetizer. After my first taste of calamari I decided to check Yelp? I told myself prior to reading the reviews that if they(the reviews) were good I would politely ask the waitress to bring me another order of calamari and if the reviews emulated my appetizer I would walk. My wife had just joined me after i finished reading. She tasted the calamari and we walked. Too bad because the place has a good atmosphere.

I'm torn about my opinion of this restaurant. The flavor of the food is delicious. The burger and sandwich portions are great, I've ordered a salad and for the price felt like I should have gotten twice the portion. My least favorite part is the kids menu. The regular menu is full of flavor and choices and everything I've ordered for my son is bland, dry and seems pretty unhealthy. I swear the Mac n Cheese was a container of Easy Mac. The quesadilla he got was so dry and the chicken was seasoned kinda spicy and I couldn't get him to eat it. Unfortunately, he still loves coming here just for the boat his meal is served with and the giant bag of fruit snacks. So every time we're down there he really wants to go there but I can't get him to eat his food.

Good: The location. The ambiance/atmosphere Average: The service The drinks Bad: The management, was openly chastising employees in front of customers, extremely unprofessional and embarrassing to watch. The food is mediocre at best and overpriced. We stopped at the fries today, they were 8 bucks and drenched in oil, soggy and Bleh. Didn't want to try anything else! Can't wait a new restaurant to open in that great location!

The former Bayside has been completely renovated and looks great. We sat at the bar and had drinks and some appetizers. The food was good and reasonably priced. The only thing I found I unappealing about this place was the staff. It's almost like they are trained to be unfriendly. Efforts to speak with them were expertly ignored with almost professional ease. I'll go back but I wish they were friendlier.

love the new atmosphere they did a great job. Food is very good. Service is getting a lot better , keep that up as it keeps us coming. Super hard chairs, nice look but hurt the rear end, would be great if chair pad option were made super convenient, folks love warm , cozy feel when going to have a drink. enjoy the place alot

Great location and the floor staff were all very friendly. Sadly, the food left a lot to be desired. I ordered a simple mushroom burger, and my father ordered a chicken avocado sandwich. My burger wasn't particularly flavorful, with barely any mushrooms on it, and there was a pickle spear inside which was very out of place and awkward to eat. My burger patty was half well-done with the other half practically raw. I don't know how the cooking staff could let that slide, but luckily my waitress noticed and took the burger off of my bill. My dad's chicken sandwich was dry and unbalanced, with way too much bread and not enough chicken (which felt and tasted like it had been microwaved). Not a lot about this sandwich seemed fresh at all. Overall the meal was disappointing, although the fries were tasty, but hardly a decent meal do good fries make. Learn how to make a better burger, narrow down the menu, and rethink presentation over practicality would be my biggest hopes they will change soon. Great atmosphere and a very big kudos to the wait staff, but the food just does not deliver enough for me to want to come back unfortunately.

Fresh and fantastic food. Great service. Can't beat the view when on sunset. Some items are expensive but worth it.

The Loft at Latitude 48.5 recently opened and came to mind on a Sunday evening for dinner. Having been a fan of the previous tenant, Bayside Café, we thought we'd give it a try. The management did a total remodel of the space and it is different! The wall between the restaurant and the bar was removed making the space more open. All surfaces were refinished with wood and other clean and simple surfaces. We sat at one of the booths along the raised section, hardwoods contrast from the seating surfaces, both are clean and nice. The menu is simple with lots of varied choices. Salads to tacos, burgers to seafood dishes. Not only are the menu choices varied, the prices are, too. There are a couple of Asian Bowls (noodles, curries, rice) that are very affordable entrées. There are other seafood dishes that are at the high side. We ordered a pasta dish, fish and chips, and two taco dishes. Service was good and the food arrived pretty quickly. The presentation was simple and not fancy. The fish and chips was beer battered, nearly over done, but still very tasty. The french fries were "fresh cut" and not quite done, some limp, some soggy. The other dishes were well received and given a thumbs up by my fellow diners. One of the cool things about the decor is that the windows overlooking the marina are garage doors that can roll up. Our visit was in early August and the evening was a bit too cool to have the doors open...boo hop. It would have been cool to have them open. Check out the Loft, I think you'll like it.

Bottom line? Great location, good parking, average food, bad service. I had a nice brunch experience here, but evenings are a mess. And the service...well, I'm not sure it's entirely the servers' fault. I think their point of sale system might be inefficient for their needs. I don't think their food is very good, but it's not bad and the prices aren't astronomical. I can't figure out what they are going for with this place; who their target demographic is. If you want a place where you can meet friends for a cocktail and an appetizer in the sun, this a still a good choice.

Really wanted to like this place. Great location ='s one star. However, the food - not so good. I went with several people - great company. Many of us had the Thai salad. It was a Thai Chicken Salad. I believe that I got about three tiny pieces of dried out "chicken". The whole salad was totally tasteless and not at all what Thai food is all about. Way overpriced for what is was..............NOT going back. Too many other great places in Bellingham for that.

Horrible! The Crab Bennie was cold, the eggs broke before it got to the table, there were finger smudges on the plate, and the brioche was soggy with egg water. The service was lackluster and they really didn't go out of their way to make us feel comfortable. If they can't do breakfast (which was more expensive than most places) I won't trust them with a more expensive dinner. The only reason I give 2 stars was for the view.

I'm really struggling to find any reality to most of the reviews for this restaurant. I think it's stellar and would love to see The Loft get the attention it deserves. I've eaten at Anthony's several times, twice in the restaurant, about a dozen times for happy hour. I think The Loft is on par, and a great alternative to another wonderful restaurant.I've taken several friends and family members who have eaten at such Bellingham classics as La Fiamma, Bob's Burgers, Pho 99, Anthony's, Wasabee's, On Rice, Kyoto, Blue Fin... You get the idea. We know our Bellingham food, and believe The Loft has the potential to join the ranks of quintessential B'ham restaurants. The Good: The atmosphere is nice. There's a gentle breeze in the summer that's very pleasant, and eating outdoors in good weather is fun! They have a nice view of the bay, which turns exceptional around sunset. Food is excellent!!! The chefs at The Loft are the backbone of the restaurant.. They cook a wide variety of food, do it very well, and are able to time several different dishes to be cooked to perfect doneness at the same time. They have served us shrimp, burgers, and ribeye all at once, all perfectly done. An under-emphasized feat in many restaurants, I have found. Here's a list of what we've eaten: Ribeye Steak - Cooked rare, to perfection. Mashed potatoes were awesome. Seafood Chimichanga - The best in town, hands down. Lots of scallop and delicious sauces on top make this California style (not Tex-Mex!) a must try. Diablo Burger - Breaded jalapenos on a burger? Ghost Pepper sauce? Yes please! Burgers at The Loft are tall in part because of the patty shape. Chefs here prefer a smaller diameter and a larger height, giving more opportunity for a medium-rare grill. This is super important, thumbs up! Smash Burger - The patty is made from filet mignon. My brother-in-law and I had this for his birthday and agree that it's a life changing experience. Don't think for even a second that it's a waste of filet. One of the best burgers of my entire life. Seafood Curry - Uniquely acidic as curries go. Almost a cross between yellow and panang style curries, with enough heat to satisfy most tastes. Shrimp was extremely tender, cooked just enough to be done. As it should be! Sweet Potato Fries - They're made with yellow sweet potatoes rather than orange ones, which makes them both starchier and less sweet. Nice if that's your thing, not so much if you were expecting the par for the course. Fried Halibut & Chips - Amazing. One of the best fish & chips in town. Ahi Tuna Tacos - Lightly seared sushi grade tuna. Delicious sauce. Loved it! Their drinks are also amazing, especially the Bloody Mary/Caesar. Comes with pearl onions, olives, pickled asparagus & green bean. Get it with a side of tobasco for some real fun. Long Island Teas are smooth and yummy, and the mojito will get you tipsier than it tastes. Last, but certainly not least, they have a butterscotch pudding dessert that's ridiculously good. One of the only desserts I would ever order at a restaurant. Rich but not inundating, definitely worth the $5. The Bad: Garlic Parmesan Fries - This is where I feel a bit of criticism is needed. The fries are delicious, generous amounts of parmesan and the whole roasted garlic cloves are creamy and wonderful. However, The fries have been soggy in the middle all four times; they should really be spread out and baked on a sheet or something! There is a truffle oil mist applied at the end, but I would like it if even more oil was applied. The service - Generally quite good, but for some reason the gals working the front aren't very good at promptly seating us. There is also a discrepancy regarding whether or not The Loft takes reservations.... Two of my family members have made reservations, but when I called I was told they don't take them. Somebody needs to get them on the same page. The furniture - The booths are great, as are the outside tables. However, the seats are rigid and heavy, making eating anywhere but a booth less comfortable than some other restaurants. Then again, I've been to nice places in town with tiny metal seats that aren't really any better. Definitely room for an upgrade here. All in all, The Loft doesn't deserve its bad reviews anymore. Something has changed, and they deserve the recognition for it. I'm writing this review in hopes that others will give them a first or second chance. You won't be disappointed!

We came for happy hour, amazing $5 food deals. Cocktails were not on happy hour, but were still reasonably priced. Everything was delicious!!

Pretty bad, overall. My wife, son, and I went here for brunch. It took over 45 minutes to get our food (which is rediculous for a veggie burger, grilled cheese, and an omelet), and when it came, they brought out the 3 dishes 10 minutes apart each. My food was cold, my son's grilled cheese wasn't grilled (it was just american cheese between 2 pieces of bread). Slow service, poor food - the atmosphere is interesting (hence the 2 stars) with nice views - could be amazing with a bit better cleanliness, better service, and better food.

First time there and definitely wish the weather was better, but it was still very nice! The bar looked really neat and the outside made me excited to come back again. I wanted to give it a four star, but about 3 of us had something to say about our meal so hoping next time is better. The ahi tacos were so good, but too much sesame seed oil, the curry dish had too many onions, and one of two of the fish 'n chips were soggy. We will be back to try again for sure!

We enjoyed the atmosphere and food at the Loft. Had heard about the Loft from others so decided to try it out on Monday. Everyone was very friendly, especially our server, Andrew. We ordered drinks and parmesan, garlic fries. Everything was brought in a timely manner and the fries were delicious, lots of roasted garlic and fresh grated parmesan. It was a very hot afternoon, but sitting out on their deck over looking the marina, we enjoyed a little breeze that was perfect. A couple sitting near us requested "very" crisp fries. Andrew acknowledged his request and stopped by after they had a chance to try them to inquire if the fries were crisp. And indeed they were. Good follow up Andrew! We'll be back again.

Went here this evening for dinner. We started with the calamari which was completely flavor less and almost jerky tough. The aioli that came with it was full of raw garlic with an aggressive bite. Next came my crab ravioli and my partners steak. My ravioli were all undercooked and very hard to bite through. Once I got to the crab in the ravioli I found shell pieces. My partners steak was ordered rare and came out medium. His steamed vegetables were more like microwaved carrots. They were raw, unseasoned and warm at best. The mashed potatoes were dry but with good flavor. Dessert was ice shards of frozen Black Berry listed at gelato. The service was great and attentive, perhaps they should find a kitchen that can keep up with their good service. Won't be back.

I've got mixed feelings about The Loft. I've been here a few times for happy hour. On the upside, the food (happy hour menu) is delicious and well priced. The beer and wine selections work for me too. The atmosphere, especially when outdoor seating is available is excellent. On the downside, the service is somewhat unpleasant. With the exception of one occasion, the wait staff refused to split our bill, we usually come in a pack. This is inconvenient for the diners travelling in packs. Loft management, please train your staff to be more customer friendly and helpful. Happy hour patrons tend to order enough to make it worth the businesses while to treat them well. My happy hour bill is consistently in line with a full dinner menu since we usually sample a couple of things and order two drinks. Wait staff, the more helpful and nice you are (assuming your customer is nice too), the more we'll tip. I promise. I guarantee that the occasions where the bill was not split up resulted in a smaller tip. Keep up the good work on the food and order more dry ribs. You always run out early and they're delicious. The mango pork carnitas, fish tacos, and burger are awesome. There's a lot going right here, but the service needs work.

We've been to this restaurant many times...mostly for lunch. The view of the marina from virtually every seat in the restaurant is relaxing, and I love it. The service has been ok. Not horrible, not excellent. Waitresses are pleasant and accommodating. The food choices on the menu, especially dinner, are many and varied and offer different twists on the usual steaks, burgers, and tacos. The main issue with this restaurant is that food quality isn't consistent. We have eaten here and had fabulous meals: hot, fresh, and delicious. Other times, our food takes awhile and arrives cold or with the appearance it was slapped together. We go back for the view and the times that the food has been good. It isn't a restaurant that makes a great first impression, tho.

I was excited to try out The Loft beside the marina on this beautiful sunny afternoon. The location is fantastic, and we were able to be seated beside the window to enjoy the view. The wait staff was quick and courteous, giving us the food and wine specials and the menu had a good selection. Looking for something light, I ordered the veggie sandwich and hubby ordered the Reuben. His sandwich, which came with fries came on a swirled bread and heaped nicely with meat and sauerkraut. It was delicious. My veggie sandwich was terrible. The undercooked veggies were falling out of the sandwich so badly, I couldn't eat it with my hands. When I tried to eat it with a knife and fork, the bread was so chewy and stale, I couldn't cut it with my knife. I ended up eating the inside veggies and fries, but I was left with disappointed with my meal. It's a young crowd, and I got the feeling it probably gets louder and fuller near the bar on weekends, but an early weeknight was a good time to go, and I'm willing to give this place a second shot with another choice of meal.

Heard from a friend happy hour was good here... was not impressed. Pros? -Location -Relatively inexpensive Cons? -The burger tasted like fried salt... -Service was unhelpful and not pleasant Waahhh... I wanted to like this place! At least the garlic fries were good.

I've enjoyed pretty much everything I've gotten to eat here. Go for the Bison Burger or the Cubano if you want a sandwich. They've got great starters too. I've tried the guacamole, ceviche, prawns, and the cilantro-lime steak tacos and they've all been really good. The outdoor seating is also great. There's a beautiful view of the water. I went here last 4th of July and had a great view of the fireworks over the bay. The only downside to me is that their service isn't always good. I wouldn't say the waitstaff is rude by any means, just get really inattentive sometimes. If they make you a drink and you hate it, don't expect it to be taken off your bill. I'd still go back, and I have many times, but this place could be better in the service department.

We gave this place yet one more try because we wanted to dine outside on a nice evening. Wait staff was pleasant but at least three of the staff I saw kept touching their hair. Yuk. Food was as forgettable as it was on previous visits. My prime rib dip was cold, my companion's salmon was an overlooked slab. One should not be able to bounce a fork off of salmon. Sorry Loft, that was your last chance.

My boyfriend and my first time dining here! I had a margarita and the chicken salad sandwich! It was all delicious. I wanted dessert, but definitely could not fit it. The view is beautiful and would be a perfect spot both for summer and winter days. Sadia was our server, she was very helpful and attentive without being totally over bearing. We enjoyed our time here and will definitely be back soon!

They have a nice selection of draft beer and the happy hour menu is pretty good. I'm a boater so the view is great for me. They did a great job of re-modeling the old Bayside with glass roll up doors that let the breeze flow through when it's hot out. Only three stars because the kitchen is not consistent. sometimes good sometimes not so good. Great place for a drink and a snack.

Sandal here- horrid food. Clam chowder had canned clams! One word: Ick. Beautiful venue, clean in appearance, horrid chairs, food miserable. Out of steamers. Looked like they swept the floor under the fryer for a few remnants of the skinniest driest, overcooked sweet potato fries. So sorry, Bellingham why can't anyone make it a go here?

Surprise, nice afternoon and a waterfront walk. My wife had been here for lunch so we thought they might have a happy hour, they do. Happy hour runs until 6, we walked in at 4:30 or so. I was surprised how many folks were there ahead of us. The interior is waterfront sparse, maybe call it warehouse style with large roll up doors leading out to the surrounding deck. Nice.... The doors were not up but we were directed to a side door and joined just one other couple outside in the sun, what are those people inside thinking on a sunny NW afternoon? Kateland was our server and showed the perfect blend of getting the business end done, and taking a moment to chat and laugh with us. We liked her right away. Up here you will not find a respectable tap selection unless it takes five minutes for your server to recite the list. Kateland is one of a handful of sharp servers to respond to the question of "whats on tap"? with, "what do you like"? That response gets my respect, nice. We received 2 pints of Hales "Troll Porter" promptly (say that three times as fast as you can). BTW, we chose the Hales based on the Seattle brewery putting out a very nice ale dubbed Hales Cream Ale. The Hales porter is less pungent and lighter on the strong coffee and chocolate flavors than most porters. It fills in with a nice clean and fairly unique light smoky creaminess that I found very satisfying. Not a complaint, but I think this beer should be served at 10 or 15 degrees warmer than the Loft's serving temp. Okay, the happy hour menu features $3 pints and $5 menu items, about 7 choices. There was a black bean burger that seemed interesting. The tacos also caught our eye, but a third pound burger and fries is a sure winner with a cold beer. The burgers showed up on a pretzel roll with fresh lettuce, tomato, deli pickle and onion. The handmade patty was flame grilled and had a nice home grill flavor. A perfect burger patty should have just enough fat content to hold it together and provide flavor, but gets a thumbs down if it's greasy, this burger was perfect. Nicely seasoned fries that I would rate good, but not quite at the level of that fantastic burger rounded out our meal. Topped off with a second porter and a couple more laughs with our server. Overall this is a place that gets my favorite happy hour rating and I am happy to do more research on the other menu items in the future....if I can keep myself from ordering that mighty fine burger again and again.

Where to start with this review... The bar/restaurant looks awesome when you walk in. There are large roll up doors which are great in the summer time, but makes for a very cold dining experience in the winter. The wait staff is absolutely horrible; un-attentive and rude. You have to beg to get a drink refill, alcoholic or non. Please people if you don't enjoy your job or people please don't come to work. On to the food, lets start out by saying I have eaten here multiple times and have not had a good meal yet. Complaints are as follows 1. Food poisoning from the clams 2. The Philly dip was bland with un-toasted bread and greasy fries 3. The rest of the food was less the. Mediocre but somewhat enable. I really wanted this place to be great, but it's completely not worth trying

Went here for happy hour the other day. We were referred because of the killer prices. I mean 5$ for burger and fries and 3$ for a craft beer? Who wouldnt try it? When we got there, it was packed, to be expected. We sat at a counter that I dont think was entirely meant to be a seating area, had to sit sideways as there was no where for your legs to go. When the waitress came,I tried to order a burger without any sauce on it, and was informed that this wouldn't be possible. Which leads me to believe that they are just cranking happy hour food out without receiving orders for them. After making it seem like a really big deal, she did inform me that she would try her hardest to make a "dry" burger. Beers were good. For food that they seem to be pre-making, it took a while for it to get there. Burger was good for 1/3lb. The fries were pretty much gross. Soggy outside, uncooked inside. Service wasnt great. You get what you pay for I guess.

Pro's: Nice view of the harbor, sits right on the water, outside seating Con's: Everything else The fish and chips (cod) was overcooked, the breading was over salty and outside was just this side of black. The waitress stated the fish was fresh but it doesn't matter when it is over cooked. "Fish and Chips" was a menu item, I was offered three types of chips, regular, parmesan and sweet potato, no mention was made that all but one choice was extra. The sweet potato fries were over cooked and surprise there was an extra charge. The service was ok but the food took a while to arrive although there were very few patrons, guess they were busy burning the fish and chips! This was my second visit, the first being an ok experience, I won't be returning.

Absolutely one of our favorites great service great food! We go about once a week my favorite is the ahi salad with the amazing Wasabi dressing but since being pregnant I've had the black and blue steak salad or fish and chips:) everything is great!

I liked the beer selection and ordered a Hale's Ale which is my favorite beer with Fish and Chips. I like the atmosphere and how there is a lot of open space. I heard the happy hour is good. I will be back.

The drinks are great! The food is overpriced and disappointing. Paid $2 extra for "garlic" fries only to be served a plate of regular fries with two cloves of garlic buried underneath and cheese unnecessarily sprinkled on top. Their burgers are subpar and the szechuan chicken was basically an $18 lean cuisine. Will not go back, would rather spend the money at one of the better restaurants nearby.

The Loft could, one day, be the setting of a pleasant restaurant that calls you back repeatedly. But for now, food-wise, it's like Amateur Hour. It will take a committed owner -- who has the courage to invest in a well-trained chef -- if this is to change. The restaurant's marinaside location, and its handsome minimalist decor, gave us hope for a positive experience. We were greeted by a cheerful hostess, and our waitress seemed considerate and pleasant. Our expectations were further raised by a mostly appealing-sounding (albeit ambitious) menu of fusiony-type foods. Our hopes started to fade as we waited too long to be served -- no excuse, because there were only two other tables of guests. Upon our food's arrival, the kitchen's unprofessionalism (or, worse, possibly the owner's lack of caring) was immediately apparent. The under-dressed beet salad was served with greens that should have been composted two days earlier. The bisque (carrot-ginger, I think it was supposed to be) should have been silky-smooth and puréed; instead, it was crudely blended, almost chunky enough to be a stew. And where, oh where, was the intense, deeply reduced flavor that is the hallmark of a bisque? Attention, Chef: If you don't know what a bisque is, just call it a "soup." The seafood Caesar salad sounded interesting -- a sauté of prawns, salmon, halibut, and scallops on top of a Caesar salad. In fairness, this seafood mélange was the best dish of the night, but that's not saying much. Inexplicably, the dressing was mixed in with the seafood -- and the romaine lettuce itself was dry and completely undressed. Huh? What's the thinking behind that, especially since every diner will be forced to mix the plate themselves? Furthermore, the presentation of both the beet and Caesar salads showed almost no consideration for the diner: They both looked like "plate it and get it out," with little attempt to visually balance the components, or otherwise make the dishes enticing to the eye. Our children ordered the calamari, as well as the fish and chips. The squid was terribly rubbery, with a soggy batter, and tasted like it had been thawed in a fridge for a day before cooking. The fish looked like it started as a decent piece of cod, but it too was ruined by an overly greasy batter. Even the fries were greasy and limp. If I had to guess, the oil simply wasn't hot enough by 25°. Attention, Chef: Proper oil temperature (and not crowding the fryer) is essential for crisp foods that don't sag with oil. Bellingham is a fantastic place to live. But for some reason, the city tolerates an amateurish level of restaurant quality that would be driven out of business overnight in Vancouver or Seattle. Given that our sad dining experience at The Loft applied across six varied and equally disappointing dishes, it's impossible to dismiss any one dish as an unlucky pick from the menu. Attention, owner: Does this concern you? I hope so -- there's still time to turn your lovely-looking space into something great. You could do it. You could become a cherished destination for tourists and faithful locals alike. But you'll need to care enough to change, starting with more-experienced talent in the kitchen. If not, then I suppose The Loft will just be one more lousy restaurant, doomed to fail or maybe get by on the booze sales, in one of the planet's most beautiful small cities.

I came for the chowder. Their King Clam Chowder is really good, not quite to Skylark's standard, but really nummy. The view is excellent of the boats and water, and the hostess/owner Antonia is 1st Class.

The food is great, it's expensive but worth it. The location is wonderful especially in the summer. So first of all, every time I talk to someone about The Loft the first thing they always say is the service absolutely sucks. My boyfriend and I have come here many times and had never experienced bad service... until last night. We sat in the bar to watch the Seahawks game. The server Teresa greeted us right away and got our drinks to us quickly. After that everything went downhill VERY quickly. We've been there before, we know what we like and were ready to order. After about 5 minutes of our server not coming over to us, I looked over to find her hunched over the bar flipping through a NW Entertainment magazine. I was immediately annoyed and too polite to flag her down. So we politely waited a few more minutes until she finally came over to us to take our order not even apologizing for making us wait which HAD to have been clear unless she's oblivious to people's body language. She took our order and our food came out within a decent time. Unfortunately, I couldn't help but be distracted at how unprofessional our server was being. She didn't seem to care to be there, she complained TO A CUSTOMER about how slow it was (If she had been doing a good job of tending to her customers then she could have stayed a lot busier than just sitting at the register reading a magazine AND this place wouldn't be so slow if it weren't for servers like this giving the restaurant a bad rep for having AWFUL SERVICE!) How do you not understand this? To say the least we were very disappointed and to be fair, I'm a server myself so I'm a pretty harsh critic. It's pretty unfortunate that we now understand why people steer clear of this place because of the service.

I guess it's the first weekend but you can totally tell. I upped to 2 starts because there were some good points. + Carne asada tacos were awesome. flavorful, hot, yummy! + Bloody Mary's were excellent as well. Perfect spice and great for a warm day. + Fish & Chips: fish was excellent, a little overcooked but great flavor. (Read about chips later...) + View- fantastic. Right by the boat dock, fun viewing, outdoor seating. + Prices were okay. Less expensive than other restaurants nearby. + Music was good. - Food took way too long to come out for what it was. - Hamburger was overcooked, nothing special here. - Chips from the Fish & Chips were nasty! So greasy, basically inedible. - Waitstaff need training with communication and professionalism. They were not well organized and pretty rude. NOT a great first impression by any means. I was ready to leave before being seated, but my family insisted. - Chairs were SO uncomfortable. Just these wooden slabs that made your but fall asleep in 10 minutes. - Water pitcher they use is so heavy! (stupid thing to complain about) But a little ole lady will not be able to lift it. I MIGHT return, but after they work the kinks out. It appears that a restaurant novice designed all the details, but never tried them out themselves so it's not a very pleasurable experience.

Finally! This place is exactly what Bellingham has needed for a while. The atmosphere is great, the staff was remarkably friendly, the menu was well thought out and appropriate for this type of restaurant. It'll take a couple more visits to truly appreciate the full menu and bar, but I can see that happening all within the next couple of weeks. Curmudgeons beware! This is not the Bayside Cafe. If you're coming to the restaurant for a great dining experience with a modern approach you'll be quite pleased. If you want to plop into a booth and eat 100 lbs of butter while complaining about how "things used to be" you should probably head over to Lee's.

We were a little less impressed with our second visit to The Loft...the food was tasty enough but the service staff seems less than professional with their need to share inappropriate details about the circumstances causing food to be delayed from the kitchen. Also the wait staff is so eclectically dressed in mostly ill fitting outfits that it's sometimes difficult to tell who is a patron and who is working. Staff in matched uniforms would definitely lend a sense of professionalism/continuity to the establishment. Still, a lovely place to enjoy a warm sunny evening on the deck.

Awesome server (Kateland). Crab Benedict was fantastic. And my husband is a Benedict snob. Nice view and simple, but comfortable ambiance. Breakfast potatoes were a bit soggy. I'd come back.

The decor is sparse as are the table settings (nothing but a cheap, cafeteria style salt and pepper shaker). Had to wait almost 20 minutes despite there being many open tables. The seats look nice, but I agree with other reviewers that they are a little uncomfortable. Like others have mentioned, the constant yelling from the kitchen is obnoxious. Had a small Caesar salad. It was quite good, but I was not offered any fresh ground pepper. My daughter had Yam fries and they were soggy and quite flavorless. I had the Halibut Oscar. It was a nice fresh piece of fish that was cooked well. But overall the dish was a bit bland an uninteresting. It wasn't bad or anything, but nothing that exciting. The desserts were pretty good. The service was decent and we didn't have to wait too long for our food. Overall, it was decent. But nothing to write home about.

I had the Prime Rib Philly with extra crispy fries. The fries were delicious and tasted like how fries should be- it was lightly salted already. The meat was super good and flavorful, specially with the sweet sauteed onions and the red bell peppers. The bread was kind of soggy, but who cares since it was going into the au jus anyway. I would go here again to try their happy hour menu! A refreshing restaurant in Bellingham.

Great food, amazing view, fun and friendly hard working staff! One of the best Happy Hour menu's in Bellingham with delicious $5 appetizers. We liked this place so much we had our rehearsal dinner here and the staff was over the top! Barbecue on the deck for 40+ people and they didn't skip a beat. The owner and his wife actually worked the event and were top notch. We received many comments from our guests that the food, ambiance, and service were excellent! I am really surprised at some of these reviews? Teresa, Liana, Jesten, Benson, Jessica and the rest of the staff have always been attentive, positive, and made us feel welcome and well taken care of! We have changed our post race watering hole to The Loft during sailing season because it's such a fantastic spot. Not sure what some of the reviewers are used to in a restaurant/ bar but if you enjoy great affordable food, full bar with good wine selection and many beers on tap, and an upbeat, professional staff, you should check The Loft out!

Love the food, and the service is pretty good as well. The place is not quite complete as there are a few minor details that need to get finished, but that doesn't have a big impact on the overall experience. However, the bar stools are very uncomfortable, so much so I'd rather sit at a table and have a chair then sit on a stool. I'm average height and weight and others I've been with here have expressed the same complaint.

This was the first time I had dinner here- I had breakfast, which was ok, but nothing special. We had a coupon, so we thought we would use it. I had heard better things about dinner. There wasn't many people here. The server may have been new- I had to ask what the soup of the day was, and if there were any specials (which most restaurants have), she didn't tell us about it (only the items that weren't available). I had the hard cider on tap which was pretty good- smooth without the aftertaste. My husband ordered the seafood chimichanga and I had the crab ravioli. When we received our food, my dish was lukewarm at best. The table next to us also ordered the crab ravioli, and had it delivered about 5 minutes earlier. I suspect that the cook dished it up at the same time and my dish waited out getting cold while my husband's dish was cooked. It was good, despite being cold. Not a lot of ravioli, and the crab was at the center of a large ravioli with a lot of extra pasta around it. My husband said his chimichanga was good. We'll go back, to try something else (but use another coupon of course!)

Two stars for great decor, atmosphere and service. I saw the reviews before we went but we had a deal saver coupon so thought we would give them a chance. The decor is great, wait staff very friendly and service was fast! Unfortunately, the food left much to be desired... We started with very greasy, limp, soggy fries. I had seafood carbonara and it was chunks of a hard, rubbery seafood mix doused in way too much floury, flavorless sauce. My husband ordered the chorizo stuffed prawns. He described it as three hamburger stuffed, over cooked shrimp. No flavor in the "chorizo" at all. Sadly the food doesn't live up to the great location and new decor. Get a new chef and we'll gladly go again!

Food excellent! Beer Good, Mixed drinks (bloody Mary's) not so good. The best time to come here is obviously lunch since the happy hour crowd overwhelms the staff a bit. It is an easy fix if the management would tweak the organization behind the bar. Getting food and drinks AND my bill has been frustrating at happy hour (3 times).

We've been here twice. Once for breakfast & once for dinner. I will make this brief. Horrible service. Several of the waitresses dressed like hookers. Sorry, but true. Slow, slow, slow! And the food?? I won't go there. Will never go back.

Great views of the water, islands and sailboats! Modernized the restaurant from when it was called Bayside, which is a good thing. Lots of windows. The food is okay. The French fries are dripping with oil and are soggy. The stools in the bar are just that... a piece of square wood on 4 metal posts, no back support and are extremely uncomfortable, which leads me to believe they do not want you staying long. Even the two customers next to me were complaining how uncomfortable the bar stools are. At 5:30 pm on a Friday night there was only one table of diners in the dining area and maybe 12 -15 customers in the bar area including the two bartenders. I say fix the French fries to crispy and not grease soggy and fix the very uncomfortable bar stools (which are throughout the entire bar and beyond) with larger bar stools, cushion bar stools and/or back support and I will come back and support your establishment..... if you support my rear end, back and my grease intake! The Bayside had more diners and more customers in the bar on a Friday at 5:30. I say to The Loft.......you need to change out your bar stools immediately, fix the issues with the food, as I see below, and fix the waitress service, as I also see below or maybe we should bring in Willie Degel from the TV reality show Restaurant Stakeout to help fix this restaurant so people like myself from Bellingham will come back to this restaurant and support Bellingham businesses. I asked a few people around Bellingham what they thought of The Loft and they all said first "very uncomfortable seating." So Bellingham, is this a concensus of The Loft, very uncomfortable seating, and if they fix the seating, (and the fries) would you return to The Loft? I know I would.

Below average food in uncomfortable setting - Don't Waste your Time or $ Cons: - food not very good - menu all over the place (Asian, Mexican, pub food) - with lots of misspelling - kind of comical & highly unprofessional - seating unbelievably uncomfortable - believe the reviews - my ass hurt - limited beverages - kitchen unaccommodating - no value Pros: - lovely view and location - servers nice

I wanted to like something about this place. Maybe the view is worth a nice comment, not worth going here though. The seating is pretty uncomfortable, the vibe is also kind of odd, I'm not really sure what sort of interior design they had in mind but it doesn't really seem to have a direction. The outdoor seating area has no light either for those eating after sunset. They have candles inside but they are the smallest candles that give off barely any light. On to the food.. We started with the jalapeño dip which wasn't bad. It sort of tasted like something you could find at most stores, simply heated. I ordered the quinoa chickpea curry wrap, it sounded really good from the menus description. It had potential but the quinoa and chickpea fried purée which is how I would describe it had a weird flavor. It could have been the curry mayo but it just wasn't at all what I had expected. The fries were good, although my boyfriend thinks they were frozen not fresh cut. My boyfriend ordered the black bean burger which ended up just being black beans shaped into a circle. I could taste some herbs mixed in but it was pretty bland and had no structure, it had the consistency of refried beans which don't hold well. He got the garlic fries which were fries mixed with whole cloves of garlic.. Probably would have made more sense to mince the garlic, or take the cloves out before serving. The young lady serving us was nice, she seemed understanding and apologized for our meals. She offered dessert on the house, we originally didn't want it but since we couldn't receive any sort of compensation we went with the strawberry gelato. Bad choice. It tasted like strawberries, yes, but the consistency was like it was scooped out of an opened ice cream carton with freezer crystals mixed in. Not gelato at all. Apparently it was a new item to the menu, I can tell. I don't like writing reviews like this but it's something that needs to be paid attention to. If they want to succeed they need to be testing their dishes and really refining them. Especially if they are offering vegetarian options, their chefs need to be aware of what they are sending out.

Just went there for the third time....I know, I'm an idiot, but I was with two friends who really wanted to try this place even though I told them about my prior experience, which was really bad. We sat down at a table, and waited thirty minutes as wait staff just continually walked right by. This might just be the worst run restaurant I have ever been to. Never again.

Great location and terrible food. If you are looking for a great view that comes with a bowel obstruction, then look no further! Let me tell you, these ribs are dryer than Oscar Wilde, those happy hour chimichangas are what you could make at home, and if you have any questions for the wait staff just wait for the hesitation and confusion! Ive always wanted a place where I could experience a stroke and Alzheimer syndrome all in one.

Wow. What a strange place. My husband and I were told by the hostess that it would be a 10 minute wait. That's fine, we walked around outside for a bit and came back. We were seated at a dirty table that was empty when we first walked into the place 10 minutes earlier. It was another 10 minutes before we were served by anyone. I worked in the business for about 10 years, and it appeared as though the majority of the staff were either very new, or they were understaffed without a proper/efficient FOH supervisor in place. My husband noted that there was some extreme micro-managing going down by the bar. I just laughed. The room is nice, and the server was pretty good, and I realize none of the experience we had was her fault (she doesn't own the place), but like other reviewers mentioned, it lacks direction. The menu is all over the place. I ordered the Chicken Avocado Melt. It came out with undercooked fries and it was thick pieces of sourdough toast with a thin slice of chicken breast in the centre, and about 2 thin slices of a small avocado on either piece of toast. Either order small pieces of bread, or increase the portion size of the chicken. The chicken also tasted like pre-grilled chicken breast which was simply microwaved to order. I like simple food, but I'm not sure why the title of the dish had the word avocado in it considering the avocado was treated more like a slight garnish rather than a feature. I could have made it better at home, so I sent it back and ordered something different. My husband had the fish and chips. His fries were much better than mine (because they were cooked), but the fish definitely didn't have a beer batter on it. It was slightly burnt, and only covered about 3/4 of the fish pieces. Just disappointing for the cost. Again, we likely could have made better at home. We were offered a free dessert considering I had to have my meal 10 minutes after my husband had his. When I was in the industry, it was standard to comp the screwed up order. Maybe it's a cost thing, but also, try harder, and then these issues wouldn't happen. Without knowing anything about the owner of this place, or the chef, I'm going to wager that the owner is a business person with little prior exposure to running an actual restaurant so they micro manage cost, portion, and menu when they really have no business doing so. The vibe I got from this place was "Restaurant owned by accountant". Will not be back.

My wife and I are foodies. We travel constantly across the country and are always trying new restaurants. We decided to eat at Bell Harbor are. We first tried Heartfire and the place should be closed. We have dined at Anthony's and it is a so-so place. Last night we tried the Loft @ Lattitude 48. A great choice. The menu was appetizing. The beet and wedge salads were huge and fresh. The halibut was exquisitely prepared with a paprika coating. A unique way to present the fish but a winner. Having it on a bed of risotto was outstanding. We will definitely be back to try the other items such as their ravioli stuffed with mushrooms and the various burger choices offered. Even the Sunday brunch looks appealing and we will bring our family to try. Though the view is not as breathtaking as Heartfire, the food is way above and that is after all the main reason to eat out. Service was spot on too. Highly recommend you try this gem in the Bellingham harbor area.

I hate to give this place even one star. The service was horrible. We were ordering at 2:45 and I ordered the clam chowder. I was told it wasn't available until 3. Really??? I opted for the yogurt with granola which was just that, a huge bowl of yogurt with some granola thrown on top. My daughter ordered the seared steak tacos and they were awful. The meat was not seared, more like boiled and had big chunks of fat. The sauce on the tacos was just bad. The fish and chips were OK. Our food was delivered by someone other than our waitress and then we never saw anyone again. Finally another waitress came over and we asked if our waitress had disappeared even though we could see her sitting at the bar. We told her the food was awful and we just wanted our check. She did take the charge for the tacos off the bill which is why I give one star. We will not be going back...ever!!!!

The view was beautiful of the harbor. The atmosphere on the deck was very loud but cool on a hot day. The happy hour food we ate was good. Lime cilantro tacos, chile jalapeño dip, salmon cakes. Garlic fries were a bit limp but tasty. But the service?? What service? It was almost impossible to get the attention of anyone. They were understaffed and no one even looked our way. Had to even get our own water at the bar. They didn't stop back to see if we needed anything . They really need to properly train their staff better. We'll try it again when they get their act together. Hoping they are successful!

Wasn't impressed. Food lacks substance and was horribly over cooked. The chowder was very good, however. Drink prices are high and a light poor on hard liquor. Bartender was friendly but wait staff had an attitude.

I will make this simple: a place in Bellingham open late, Friendly service. Cool atmosphere. Good tunes. Great happy hour $3 & $5 specials, local ingredients....do I need to go on? If you know Bham food, you know good late night eats are hard to find. The Loft is worth checking out.

Location is good, view and service is great (Thanks Monica!). The menu needs a little work. Ordered szechuan dish and ravioli, both came soupy and sloppy. Server was great trying to cover for the kitchen's explanation...I hope this helps as a learning experience, and I would give it one more try.

So this is a new place. They "remodeled" The Bayside Café on the cheap...very uncomfortable seating...but who cares if the food is good. At a new place, I order the basics. Can they cook a decent hamburger? can they cook a decent egg? If so, I will come back. I ordered a burger and it was not good. It was SOoooo salty that it makes me think they were trying to cover up cheap meat with salt. 2 stars because the service was good and the view was great. They need to order decent product and hire folks that can cook.

Honestly, my dinner here was one of the best meals of my entire life. I had the crab and artichoke stuffed rib-eye, and it was absolutely delicious. I cleaned my plate and was super happy and full when it was all gone. To drink, i had a strawberry gin fizz. I almost ordered a second one. The strawberry puree made the drink so yummy. Service was friendly. On top of it all, the view of the sunset over the bay was stunning. I plan on going back soon and more often.

You can't get a waiter or waitress in the lounge to notice your empty drink if you threw it at their heads. I wanted to like this place so badly that I've been there twice now and both times I have to say the service was some of the worst I've had anywhere. I didn't notice any yelling from the kitchen as others mentioned but the hostess would come in the lounge every five minutes yelling the name of someone waiting or a table. Pretty annoying. The food is hit and miss. One meal I had was good (some meat dish) but the other was awful (curry bowl with chicken). I had heard of others who have walked out due to lack of service. If there is a manager he or she needs to go. I probably won't be back or recommend it.

Overall a disappointment. Ordered the Cod and chips. For $13, I was hoping to be impressed. Fish was bland, overcooked and greasy. Fries were cold and soggy. We also ordered the grilled chicken and avocado sandwich. The chicken was overdone and the bacon practically raw. Inedible. Wine was delicious and reasonable. The constant yelling from the kitchen is obnoxious. I agree with an earlier reviewer's observation re: the seating. Not someplace to go and stay a while. We'll not be returning nor recommending.

After the abrupt closing of the Bayside Cafe, I was hoping for a re-opening with a new, appealing restaurant. it opened this weekend as "The Loft at Lattitude Forty Eight Five," and I dropped by today to check it out. They gutted the old, traditional interior and replaced it with a stark, new, rather ugly, hard-edge design. Gone are the old comfortable chairs and booths, replaced by miserably uncomfortable chairs. We sat down and got right up, unable to tolerate the bizarre design. Didn't anyone test the seats? Walking by the kitchen, you could hear waiters yelling at the cooks, this noise barely covered up by extremely loud music. The menu looked rather ordinary. We didn't stay and won't return. A sad disappointment.

I REALLY want the Loft to be good! As someone else mentioned, it's inconsistent. The first time we went, the food was great and the service was okay. Subsequent visits have been mediocre. The breakfast we got was expensive, portions were small and the place smelled like old mop water. The last time we went for dinner, the service in the bar was great, but the food, again was just okay. The atmosphere and location are awesome. The bartender is good. They need to step up the food and realize they're in Bellingham. We want good beer, good drinks, good food, good service and decent prices. We don't care about fancy.

Been there twice and found it to be soso both times. Nothing real special. Had the seafood chimichanga the first time, won't be ordering that again. Was soggy and seafood was almost pureed with cream cheese. Its middle of the road at best.

Great food and excellent service. My wife and I just had lunch here and it was a very enjoyable experience. They weren't very busy, so we were seated very quickly. I always appreciate when a restaurant provides a carafe of water for the table. They also kept our iced tea's full, and the food was delivered within a very reasonable amount of time. Our waitress was very attentive, yet not hovering. Looks like the Loft at Latitude 48.5 will have a bright future in Bellingham.
