OK...So this is my very first review on Yelp. With that said, I was so impressed with Soy House tonight that I was compelled to take the time to join Yelp and thank them for being amazing! The Pho soup is top notch and the sandwiches are ridiculously tasty! If you want something a little less exotic, try their wood-stove pizza or sweet potato fries. They have a pizza with curry sauce that they brought out for us to try (and everyone else in the restaurant). Who does that?! My buddy got the sizzling beef medallions plate on recommendation from our waitress and it was really REALLY good! It came out still bubbling hot and steaming. The initial presentation of his dish was really impressive. It was a definite "head turner" dish. I give them 5 stars because the food is only surpassed by their service. They are genuinely nice people who try to establish a RELATIONSHIP with their CUSTOMERS. They were so thankful that we brought our friends into their restaurant. Prices are also reasonable with meals starting at about $7.99. Thank you Soy House...You're the best!

I guess this place just opened up again a few days ago. Went today. Terrible service and it was not super busy. Very slow. Spring Rolls were made with just lettuce?? A few slices if shrimp. The beef soup Pho was blah at best, had to wait and ask for my plate of veggies for the soup. Not going back.

I've been coming to the Soy House since they first opened. They have the best Vietnamese food in the region. The Pho and spring rolls are particularly good. I really appreciate that they have multiple broths, all of which are excellent. The new location downtown is also very nice!

Above average for Vietnamese! Pros? -Lots of menu options -Awesome seating (very new age and open) -Friendly service -Attention to detail Cons? -The pho meat was too fatty

I think they forgot our order. People came after us, at their food and left, 3 families... It was very frustrating. People kept coming out of the kitchen, looking at us and going back in. Yet, no one brought us the food. They kept bringing others'. We didn't even modify the order! Just gave them the number from the menu. They were very old. I understand that it happens, you forget, even if you are young. However they could've at least apologized and gave us maybe one free spring roll or something, instead of acting like nothing happened. Although I enjoyed their Pho and went there several times, I will never go there again. It was very offensive.

Fast, friendly, very good service. Lettuce wraps a must. They put limes in the bottom of the water pitcher; a nice touch. Will definitely be back to try the pho

Went to this location tonight craving pho but was disappointed to find the two people working had no care to seat us/take our order so we left after 20 minutes of being ignored. Right before we left a table next to us did the same thing..... Shame.....

This place has gotten better. Though still not the best value in Bellingham I think if you order the right things the portions are commensurate with the price given the quality of preparation.

Pros: amazing crispy fresh veggies. Family friendly staff. Food quality was good. My only con: I'm a spice whimper and my vermicili bowl was sooooo spicy. Mouth still on fire. I It was really nice tho. Best of best: the staff

Best Pho in the City of Subdued Excitement! Can't go wrong at either location... Tony and his wonderful staff do it right. Be sure to try the Pho (chicken's my fave) but all the noodle dishes are great. Haven't tried their pizza but hear it's on par with the rest of their menu. Hmmm... I'm going there for lunch today!

I don't think a lot of these posters have every had authentic, genuine Vienamese food. I like fresh veggies and the serving of bean sprouts and basil was so paltry that I had to ask for more. Also, the service was not very friendly or welcoming. They were rather curt. I personally would never frequent this restaurant again, I was born and raised in Hawaii and if you are ever there, go to a restaurant in China Town that is right next to the river. I think it's called Pho To...You can't miss it because there will always be a LONG line around lunch time...

Vegan options: Yes Service: Quick, attentive Food: Flavorful, unique We went here as a student group of nine and were all very pleased with our food. Our meals came out quickly and were what we'd ordered. Several of our group members ordered the Sparkling Honey & Lime Drink and really liked it. I am vegan and ordered one tofu spring roll as my starter. The spring roll was a nice size but wasn't filled with much and the sauce was kind of watery. Not bad though. Every place makes their sauces differently which is nice. I also ordered the Vegan Pho and really enjoyed it! This was my first pho experience. My bowl was nice and hot and full of tons of vegetables and noodles. It looked simple but the flavors were all there. Very yummy with some sriracha on top. One of our students had to ask for his bowl to be heated up. The owners graciously obliged. The owners don't speak English too well but they know what they're doing and were very attentive. Soy House is extremely clean which is always appreciated. Good prices, too.

I was craving Vietnamese food and this is the closest place I could find without having to cross the border. I had the Pho and it was decent. I guess I miss all the extra stuff like tripe, but that's okay. I can always get my fill at home. My husband ordered the Bun which was good. He thought the fish sauce had a funny taste though. It wasn't bad. It was just different from what we are used to eating. I would recommend this place. It's great for a quick lunch. I saw a few other customers come in and the owners knew who they were on a first name basis and their "usual dish". You don't see that very often...which I thought was pretty cool.

A superb, reliable source of subtle Vietnamese cuisine, housed in a spacious, attractive setting. The seafood and Saigon Special Pho, especially with fresh, par-cooked vegetables added, are consistently satisfying. Deep fried tofu and sweet potatoes are delicious appetizers. For warm weather variety, the shredded cabbage with chicken is crunchy and tasty. Service is friendly and prompt. Worth becoming a regular.

Be warned. Yelp says they close at 9. I went in at 7:52 and was told "we do our last seating at 7:30". Very disappointing!

I drove across the border going to mall and found this place on the way. Food was beyond expectations! I had deep fried tofu with peanut sauce dip. Mmmmmm Spicy beef noodle which is very spicy but really I asked for it :) so it's cool! And they're coconut banana bread pudding top with peanuts is just tooooooooo good. Even better place is clean, washroom is clean and not stuffy. Highly recommend!

Great place to grab a bowl of Pho. The vegetable Pho is excellent. Service is always great. Love the veitnamse coffee. Nice spot for outside dinning too!

A very ugly meal. The meat was rubbery and poor quality. The beans were as hard as toothpicks, and the rice was cold. What a mess! Obviously the entire plate was pre made and just put in the micro out of the fridge. Never again.

My husband really likes burritos. He would leave me for the perfect burrito. It's ok. I'd leave him for the perfect Pad Kee Mao. After a family cross country trip, returning to Washington, we stopped at this Mexican restaurant which by many yelp reviews promised that it would be amazing and the burritos were like off the chain. When we got there, the burrito came to the table, it was like a Virginia Slim cigarette size but a burrito with a few scraps of cold cheese and wet beans. It was like that sad own horn for my husband, I almost had to wipe his tears away as he took one delicate bite and consumed it whole. Well, this place Soy House, is like the emotional and culinary Vietnamese version. Also don't tell me sugar cane is a skewer when you serve it to my type 1 diabetic child. Also don't take 30 minutes to take my order when there is only one other table. Also if you make me wait that long, you better bring the best fricking food out of that kitchen, not this sub par over cooked noodle crap. At least the place was clean, I guess if you aren't focusing on cooking you have time to clean.

My friends really liked their vegetarian pho, which is really great for this restaurant! But I was really disappointed in their vegetarian Vietnamese sandwich. I've had many good Vietnamese vegetarian sandwiches but this one was pretty sad. It just had avocado and fried tofu! Taste like how it sounds, seriously nothing special. Where is the pickled vegetables that make Vietnamese sandwiches famous!? It was really disappointing, and it was ten dollars. You can get Vietnamese sandwiches for $4. I also ordered their lemongrass tofu dish, it was simple but I wish it had more flavor.

Ordered the spring rolls, sweet potato fries and the vermicelli pork noodles. The spring rolls weren't that good so I'd pass on that but the potato fries were great, definitely recommend it. The pork noodles were good but nothing great, the portions are small for what you pay for IMO. But the older gentleman taking our orders was very kind and informative.

I've had a lot of pho and I have to say, this pho tasted off. It was saltier than most I've had and tasted different. Pho should have a 'beef'y taste and this tasted more like the green basil/parsley that was in it. Not to say it was inedible but just different than most phos. Unfortunately, this was the highlight. Everything else was downhill. My buddy ordered the bun bo hue and it was all kinds of wrong. It was advertised in the menu as a beef broth but had a fishy taste to it, like it was made with tuna. Or maybe the cooks used the same utensils for making the seafood broth as they did bun bo hue. We were also supposed to start with the spring rolls but they came after the soups. They were okay, but unnecessarily and excessively greasy. Both soups were about $9 and somewhat pricier than other places. I noticed there were higher priced items on the menu and couldn't imagine paying more for those. The amount of beef in each soup was below average, and the soups took a while to arrive. What high points can I give? It is a more upscale place that serves a 'kobe beef' version of pho, which... upscale and pho really don't go together in the first place. What else?... The restaurant is clean, the service people are nice, and there is wi-fi. But we will not be coming here again.

the yelp reviews don't lie. the food was delicious! and we never even knew it was so close to the bellis fair mall! i had the bun bo hue (spicy beef noodle soup), asked for spicy, and teared up as i ate - it was amazing. needless to say, my fiance didn't enjoy the spicy soup so much but he liked his viet sub and spring rolls just fine. i noticed a lot of items that stood out on the menu as well: fusion inspired pizzas, vegetarian dishes, or gluten free dishes. there are choices for all types of eaters. compared to vancouver, prices are about $1-2 more for pho and we can get viet subs for just $2.50-3.50 per sub. the viet sub and spring roll combo had a good twist to it, but for $7.99, it was a bit steep. also, having had pho my whole life, i realized that the types of meat they had were quite basic (and cheap), compared to what they would have in an authentic bowl of pho. essentially, in my bun bo hue, they had the meat balls and the viet ham. but no pig's blood, or pig's feet, no tendon, no tripe, and less slices of beef. still, the soup base was very well done, with lots of lemongrass. perhaps it's the neighbourhood the restaurant is in? i'm not sure. in any case, i would come back for the food, despite the higher price. the service was great. the servers were attentive. it was a great find in the neighbourhood!

Great food at a great price and the staff is fantastic. The owners were always super friendly whenever we made it to the Bakerview location, and we couldn't believe there was such a great Vietnamese place hiding in Bellingham. I was thrilled to see the new location downtown, and while some of the items I've had on the current menu have been underwhelming, I'm looking forward to the full menu coming back and hopefully having some Banh Xeo soon! I haven't tried the pizza yet but the one I saw go by looked and smelled delicious. As mentioned in other reviews, you can't miss the spring rolls, best deal in town.

  • Carol L.

Pros: Great Service. Vermicilli with Egg roll was good. Cons: Why why why do u charge extra for tripe and tendon! AND the tendon is dark brown. Really?!? The combination pho should include that. Must be a good place the place was filled during lunch time.

I've been coming to the Soy House since it opened, and I will be doing so for the foreseeable future. The owners are a delight and I'm pleased for all the success they've found with Soy House. It is well deserved. As many other reviews point out, the traditional fare is done very well with the Banh Xeo as the standout dish for me. However, visitors should also keep an eye out for their more experimental fusion dishes. The Vietnamese pizza (!?!!) is amazing.

We came to try American pho, and it was much better than I expected, but still not the greatest. The noodles had a great texture but the soup broth didn't see to have much depth. The beef balls were better than usual. It wasn't particularly cheap but the portions were quite large. I would have preferred a size option though. The spring/salad rolls were delicious and filled with lettuce, which I'm not used to but definitely prefer!

After recently moving to the Bellingham-area from Seattle, I never thought I would be able to find a place to have a banh mi love affair with after I moved. But alas, my Vietnamese-infused prayers have been answered with the Soy House! My best friend and I went there on a Saturday afternoon and were seated immediately. The decor of the establishment was simple enough, but bright and clean (which is always a plus for me). As we cracked open our menus we expected to see the standard fare of pho and spring rolls, but were delighted to see both banh mi and Vietnamese pizzas! After deciding on the BBQ Pork Banh Mi with sweet potato fries (YES they have sweet potato fries), I (im)patiently waited for it to make its way to my table. Finally it arrived, and it looked even better than I could possibly imagine. Perfect, toasty roll covered in a creamy pork spread, pickled vegetables, and delicate slices of BBQ Pork. I was in banh mi heaven. The only thing missing was a side of the Vietnamese BBQ sauce to dip my fries in! I had spied the BBQ sauce as I was perusing the pizza page of the menu as one of the sauce options available in a custom pizza. When I asked for a side of the sauce the server denied that they had BBQ sauce and that it didn't say they had BBQ sauce anywhere. I wasn't about to whip out the menu to try to inform him otherwise, and let it go. I was slightly perturbed though by his answer, and to this day, I still wonder about that BBQ sauce. Overall, I absolutely love Soy House. I would go back time and time again if I lived in Bellingham, but sadly I have only been able to go back once more since I visited the first time. The food was just as consistent though, so I look forward to future ventures in eating there!

5 Stars for Taste, it's not a Romantic atmosphere- the taste and the value is wonderful- from the fresh green salad with warm dressing to the Stir Fried Vegs with Chicken in a tasty garlic sauce. The flavor of the food is special, will definitely stop in again on my way to VC. Try it, believe you will enjoy.

Great find in Bellingham. Huge, burrito like spring rolls. The meat and veggies were expertly cut and super clean. Pho chicken soup was great, be warned: the bowl of soup is massive in size. The flavors were excellent. The service was excellent.

We were completely underwhelmed by our recent visit to Soy House, and can only surmise that it gets such good reviews because there aren't many other Vietnamese options in Bellingham...? We had pork and shrimp fresh rolls, and a couple of bowls of pho. The fresh rolls were nice sized but we found just one tiny (miniature!) shrimp per roll, and the peanut sauce that was served on the side was sickly sweet. Pho broth was good, but again Soy House skimped on the protein -- my beef pho had only about six very small slices of meat. Also, they don't have roasted chili oil or fresh chili oil out for seasoning the soup - just bare-bones sriracha and hoisin sauce. Our pho came with one small slice of lime each, and when we asked for extra lime, the waitress came back and presented us with one more slice. We found this funny - is there some kind of lime shortage these days...???? All in all, Soy House was not horrible but certainly nothing to write home about and probably not worth a return visit.

I'll start by saying that I loved our server, efficient, funny, really great guy - I would go back just to banter with him again. 5 Stars for service Initial impression when you walk into the restaurant is strange, to the left was boxes and bric-a-brac piled up on tables, an employee slurping up pho but back in the main dining area it looked nice, lilke a higher end Vietnamese place so it kind of confusing, to the left = junk pit, to the right nice dining area - oh well. We tried the spring rolls, 1 with beef and the other with pork and shrimp. The peanut sauce was very good (READ: Not sickly sweet) with just the right amount of peanut and soy flavoring. However the spring rolls left a lot to be desired. First off they had NO vermicelli, basil, mint, cilantro, or any other type of herb that normally accompanies spring rolls instead they were stuffed full of lettuce and bean sprouts making them more of a fusion style lettuce spring roll. 1.5 Stars For entrees we had Pho Chin Nam and Banh Xeo - The pho was slightly greasy and the meat was rather fatty which was a disappointment. However the flavor of the Pho was good with a decent amount of star anise in the background but it was lacking the mouth feel (unami) that really good pho gives you. Vegetables were decent quantity, noodles cooked al dente. 3.75 Stars The Banh Xeo was a treat for me, it's rare to find it on menu's and overall the dish was very good if just a slight bit too greasy. My only dissapointment was the sauce that accompanied it seemed like the normal dressing for bun and not the fermented soy bean and sticky rice sauce that is the normal accompaniment. If you ignore the specialty sauce that they didn't have it would have been a 4.3 star dish. Prices seemed decent 4 Stars OVERALL Food - 3.2 stars Value - 4 Stars Service - 5 Stars TOTAL 4 Stars. NOTE: I would go back again and recommend this place with only one caveat, skip those spring rolls.

Absolutely divine cuisine.Wonderful clean & fresh flavors. The food was excellent by any measure. Both times we have eaten here, it was busy...no wonder! This is our new favorite place to eat in Bellingham by far. You can't go wrong... A family run restaurant with good service. Everyone works hard and the meals come quickly. The Pho was outstanding, and to be different, we ordered the chicken pizza once(in a Vietnamese restaurant?) It was superb. Spring rolls were awesome! This was our third time to eat here and we continue to be impressed with the food, the service and the cleanliness of the restaurant. We are from Hawaii and have extensive travel experiences in Asia(including Viet Nam) and this restaurant would be a standout anywhere in the world. It really is that good...:):):):) You could tell from the clientele that this restaurant was popular with people who like great food at a good price. We will be back again and again. Well done, Soy House!!!

This place used to be good but we had the worst tasting meal ever there on Monday. The meat in the Combo Pho was grey and unidentifiable. The noodles were a giant glop. The waiter needs a major tranfusion of "I care about anything". Avoid this place at all cost.

Crossed the border shortly after dinner on our way down to Seattle. We came across this 4.5 star review and decided to give it a go. The first deterrent should have been the name of this "Vietnamese" restaurant - Soy House. Although soy sauce is used in Vietnamese cuisine, fish sauce is favored in Vietnam. The gentleman who took our order was friendly enough, providing suggestions on the popular items on the menu - "Vietnamese Shaking Beef" or (Bo Luc Lac) and "Banh Xeo" (pancake stuffed with shrimp, pork, mung beans, yellow onions, bean sprouts). Not sure why English and Vietnamese were used interchangeably throughout the menu to name their dishes; but I digress. We also added an order of Spring rolls to start. When the Shaking Beef arrived, it was served on a teppan grill which reminded me of how steaks are served in Cantonese style cafes. There were more green peppers than beef, leaving me to think this would have been better named Shaking veggies. Not the worse thing we had here. When a plate of Salad rolls was placed in front of us, we all looked at each other with that "We didn't order that" look in our eyes. We flagged the server back to our table to explain that we ordered Spring rolls (deep fried rolls of vermicelli, pork, mushrooms, and shredded veggies) not Salad rolls (vermicelli and prawns rolled in rice paper, served cold). She very rudely said "That is spring roll. Says so in menu", spun on her heels and off she went. Needless to say, we were all dumbfounded by her "customer is never right" attitude. I have since done some research online about the difference between the two rolls and have learned that the terms are sometimes used interchangeably in some places. i.e. Spring rolls (CAD) = Egg rolls (US) and Spring rolls (US) = Salad rolls (CAD). And then the Banh Xeo (pancake) arrived which was an omelette-like dish stuffed with bean sprouts and specks of meat. The tastiest thing on this dish was perhaps the lettuce it was served with. I am still baffled by how 69 people could rate this restaurant 4.5 stars (very misleading). Perhaps, this is relative to the area and I really shouldn't be comparing it to the vast array of top-class Vietnamese cuisines we are so blessed with not 2 hours north of Bellingham, WA in Vancouver, BC.

Pricing ridiculous. The service needs improvement. Food 100% winning. Go if you work for Microsoft. By the way we didn't see any Vietnamese people there and they serve pizza.

Just got on a Pho kick and were in B'ham for Christmas. We went to Soy House on friends' recommendations. They were spot on. Service is friendly. The broth was exceptionally good. We've been to 3 pho places in the last week, Soy House had the best broth. Nothing bad to say.

Hands down, best place in Bellingham for Pho. Many different options. The other items on the menu are amazing that I have tried too. Dont waste your time and money at any other pho place in Bellingham. They have two locations, and are family owned with great service.

I have heard great things about Soy House for over a year from a lot of different people. So, today, I had an opportunity to have lunch there with a friend. The only regret is that I didnt go sooner! LOVE this place!! Great customer service and excellent food! On recommendation, I wanted to try their Pho as well as a dish called, Banh Xeo. Both were fantastic. The Pho (vegan in my case) with tofu had a very clean tasting broth with fresh toppings and full flavor. The Banh Xeo sealed the deal for me with this restaurant. It is a Vietnamese pancake made out of coconut milk and rice flour and is filled with tofu and bean sprouts. You eat it like a wrap using the romaine lettuce leaves to wrap pieces of the pancake, tofu and bean sprout/basil mixture and then dipping it in a seasoned soy sauce. All of the textures and flavors pull together in each bite making this amazing eating and tasting experience like nothing I have ever tried previously. I will be back for the Banh Xeo very soon! It was, seriously, that good! And to top it off, this place understands vegan food. A major win in my book since I am vegan.

Yes, the food is good. Very disappointed that we were turned away on a Friday night, 35 minutes before their posted closing time. The open sign was on and customers were seated, and we were not-too-politely told that they were closed. Bad business practice for a restaurant that wants to expand.

I don't get it. Is this the twilight zone? How in the world does this restaurant have 102 reviews at 4 stars? I'm sorry, but this restaurant is a disgrace to all other Vietnamese restaurants. To preface the following review, I live in Lynnwood, suburb of Seattle. Good Pho restaurants are a dime a dozen around my parts. So my wife and I stopped by on the way home from an awesome experience at the Willows Inn on Lummi Island. We were craving some good Pho. Saw the yelp review and GPSed our way to this place. We started off with pork/shrimp spring roll. They were huge. I was so hungry, I didn't skip a beat with my first bite... bite of all lettuce and bean sprouts, that is. Where's the protein? They were there apparently, just hard to notice amidst the vegetation. Oh well, hopefully the pho will satisfy our appetite. I ordered the seafood pho as I'm known to do at our favorite Pho restaurants near our home. $12.99 seemed a bit much; usually around $8-9. Damn, must be full of seafood. Nope, I fished around for what appeared to be small bits of squid and a half of a thinly sliced scallop. Trust me, I searched for the other half. At this point, my wife and I were in tears with laughter. We're not the complaining type but as a waitress came to check up on us, I asked her if this is usually how the seafood pho is served with half a scallop. Here is the following convo. Waitress: Yes, there is nothing wrong. Me: Really, why would you take a thin piece of scallop and cut it in half? Waitress: I'll get the chef. Chef: Yes, scallops are very expensive and they come from Seattle. Me: What? There are no seafood vendors up north? Chef: No. Me: So did you drive down yourself to shop for ingredients? Chef: Yes. Apparently we're not just dining here but paying for their gas as well. I have to say, it wasn't a complete waste of our time and money as my wife and I had a good laugh about it. BTW, if you guys ever make it down to Seattle, try Pho Big Bowl in Ballard. Soy House can buy their Seafood Pho and resell it for a pretty good profit.

Just ate here and it was good. I had the #28 which was the rare beef, meatball, and flank, I believe. I asked them about tendon and they actually do offer it. The only problem is they charge you 2 bucks for it!?!? I can tell you that it's not worth the 2 dollars. They don't' give you very much. It is very good though; cooked perfectly. The broth is very tasty, definitely one of the best broths I've had. The noodles are wheat free, which is good if you have gluten allergies, or, if you simply don't eat gluten (like me!). Their condiments are weak as hell though; Sriracha and hoisin only. It did look like they had some other stuff behind the counter, but for me, I love places who offer chili pastes (home made is best), limes, fish sauce, and whatever other unique stuff they can come up with! I have very high standards for Pho, apparently. I really wish Yelp offered half-stars because I believe this place might deserve 3.5 based on all things (value, food, service, cleanliness). The things that brought it down was the price and the lack of originality I guess. I mean they charge 8 bucks for bhan mi, 8 bucks for pho (most places would call their portion a medium), as well as many higher priced items. The quality is there, but I think they take advantage a little bit with some of their items. But since I can't give half stars, I will give them a 4 and I feel comfortable with that. They were really nice and the place was really clean. Also, it was packed so if you come during lunch or dinner, be prepared to wait (I didn't have to, luckily.) I would definitely eat here again.

Really good Pho. The Vietnamese "pancake" is a great tasting novelty and their spring rolls are fresh and awesome. Good service and does not take too long to get your order. They do a great job of cooking noodles and have an awesome peanut sauce you can order with plain noodles to make a great side dish or appetizer.

Outstanding job as a business. Friendly, personable, amazing memory of the staff there. Fresh vegetables, beautiful presentation. So-so broth for pho, and sometimes the rice noodles were inconsistent. Not a lot of sliced beef.. Vermicelli bowls always look amazing, and the grilled lemongrass meats are outstanding. But the greens and the noodles lack something.... The vietnamese pancake is SO, so good. One thing that I had to ding them on was the banh mi. The second time I ordered it, the sandwich came without the sliced jalapenos and cilantro. When I asked about it, the waiter sheepishly said that not everybody liked it in their sandwich so he left it off mine. But.... isn't that part of what makes a banh mi a banh mi? Why you changing it to fit American boring taste buds? And, it's like $8 per sandwich, when they are really like $1-$2 in Seattle for a Vietnamese sandwich. Boo. Good iced coffee though.

Friendly and fast service in a clean atmosphere. Food was very fresh and healthy. After eating my bowl of vegetarian pho and spring roles with peanut sauce, I left full but very satisfied and not feeling guilty about eating crap food. This is a great place to go if you want consistently good food that does not make you disgusted with yourself after stuffing your face :)

Hands down the best vegetarian pho broth I've ever tasted!! Initially I was put off by a $8 bowl of pho, but once I tasted it it totally blew my mind and I could understand why. There's some serious love that goes into that broth. or you know, something. So much complex flavor! It had all the qualities of pho you'd expect, yet something more that I can't describe other than that it's fantastic. Great service, to boot. I want to try the Vietnamese pizza next time, but I'm going to have a hard time not going for the pho again. I just wish they didn't use huge sheets of paper over their table clothes, it makes my nature-lovin' heart hurt when I see that much paper being wasted on my account.

Loved the food. Great service. Nice people. Good area. If I come back to Washington I will eat here again

The Vietnamese pizza. We love it! Always order the veggie pizza with cilantro/pesto sauce. Spice level: two stars. Baked in a wood-fired oven. We are addicted to that pizza. Veggie fresh rolls for a starter and you have a delicious dinner. And, I agree with the great customer service comments about Soy House. They remember you and greet you warmly when you arrive. One time the pizza oven was off and I was told to call anytime and they'd fire it up so I could get a pizza when I arrive.

excellent service, very good food. My husband I have had more negative experiences at restaurants than positive ones. We chose to have a special dinner with very special family members here at the Soy House because of its glowing reviews. We were not disappointed. Absolutely delightful owners, delicious food (seafood curry, pho and chicken curry as well as appetizers and wine) - and like I said, excellent and attentive service. We will go back again!

If the service wasn't so amazing, I'd probably give this place three stars. The food is good, but not incredible. They have a nice variety of food, and most of it is a lot healthier than other places in town. They have great sandwiches, which they cook in their awesome stone hearth oven (made locally at the Wood Stone Corporation...yes, I'm an employee there)! I would recommend the banh xeo (Vietnamese pancake).

I made the mistake of passing Soy House up in favor of Billy McHale's while in Bellingham. Fortunately, our paths crossed once more, and I happened to remember how to get here. Soy House is tucked away in a predominantly vacant strip mall. What the hell is that large patch of rocks next to to the place? I have no clue. But there my best friend and I were. Staff is great. The interior is simple and clean. The tropical Spanish music wafting in the air was amusing. On to the important stuff: Giant summer rolls - ridiculously stupid sized. No wonder they are sold one piece at a time. I was unaware of their almost forearm/Chipotle burrito size and ordered two. The accompanying peanut sauce was incredible. Near bathtub sized bowls of pho. Many other places that serve pho offer the option of "regular" or "large" sized. Soy House does not. Instead, you receive what seems to be a bowl that you could set yourself in - certainly bigger than other restaurants' "large" option. I ordered the vegetarian pho, with vegetable broth (or you can order it with beef broth). Insanely delicious. This place seems to be popular with the locals - and the parking lot shows it. If I'm ever in Bellingham again, I will definitely stop at Soy House.

The Pho was surprising not bad for Bellingham. The service was ok and portion sizes were good too. The spring roll should have been a little smaller, so instead of getting one giant roll, two medium size rolls would have been great. I can't vouch for anything else, so try at your own risk.

I stopped by after a haircut and was again pleased to have a great meal. I cannot tell you the name, but I think it was #49 (; The veggies were very fresh, the rice-cake/pancake under the pork was luscious but light. The wait staff a kick as usual. Clean, reasonably priced and absent of the 'grease' stench of some establishments.

My husband and I LOVE Soy House! We have been going since they opened up and haven't been disappointed since. The chicken pho is my favorite, always plenty of chicken and delicious flavorful broth. The garnishes on the side are delicious fresh and plentiful. The service is my experience has always been wonderful, they always remember our name. I'm glad they are getting a second spot downtown, since this place has become so popular it's hard to get a table sometimes.

I've been here with my husband to eat pho a few times and i always loved this place. They have good sweet potato fries and pho. Recently i went here with some friends from work and ordered 3 pho's to go. I was immediately thrown off by 3 giant plastic bags full of at least 15 styrofoam containers to package our pho. It took two people to carry it all out. One thing i loathe is styrofoam to-go containers, but i loathe it even more when they use excessive amounts of waste. This really has cast a shadow over a restaurant i used to enjoy. It's too bad. If i do go back, i will plan on bringing my own containers and asking them to use those (the last trip was spontaneous). Also the broth was a bit sugary/thin when we ate and they did not include any onions with the garnishes, which i really like. They also did not supply enough hot sauce. I was disappointed and it was my friend's first time there so i felt a little embarrassed because I suggested it.

We love Soy House! We are always greeted with smiles and a thumbs up from Tony...our meals brought to us within five minutes after being seated as the staff knows our regular order and starts preparing it immediately! We have sought better pho multiple times in both Seattle and Vancouver and still haven't found anything better than the vegetable/fried tofu pho with vegetable broth. Such clean, light, crisp favors and ultra fresh veggies. I could eat it every day! Definitely our go-to place to warm up on a rainy night or when suffering the sniffles... Clean, cozy, simple and bright decor - NOT at all a "hole in the wall" as described in a couple other reviews!

The staff here is really outstanding--friendly, excellent English, and quite funny! It is so clean (let's be honest, most pho places around here are rather sketchy) and it is hands down the best pho in town. Also, try the desserts! There's a warm coconut pudding thing I ordered once and it left me wanting to lick the plate!

My favorite Asian restaurant in Bellingham. They Always remember my name and all there food is always well prepared. I've never had anything I didn't enjoy off of their menu but I highly recomend their Pho. I personally think its the best in town. The broth whether you choose, vergetable, chicken or beef is always full of flavor and the condements they serve on the side are always fresh and crisp. Save room for one of their desserts you wont be dissapointed!

  • Kareem F.

Super tasty and delightful. The food is delicious with many options for vegetarians and NO MSG! I'm a big fan of East meets West fusion cuisine, and their Vietnamese pizza are perfect for my curious sensibilities. So many sauce choices for the pizzas too, and you can get half on one side and another sauce on the other side if you can't make up your mind. I recommend a curry sauce and a cilantro sauce mix. Even better, the staff at Soy House are sweet, wonderful hosts/servers and really make you feel welcome. The name Soy House is pretty lame, but don't let that stop you from going because it's definitely a gem in North Bellingham.

Possibly the best Asian restaurant in Bellingham. It's just a hole in the wall in a strip mall on Bakerview, but it really shines. The freshness of the ingredients is totally obvious and consistent over many visits. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We've had many meals here and have never been disappointed. Do yourself a favor and check it out. There are many places to eat in the surrounding area, including lots at the Bellis Fair mall. This place blows all of them away.

  • William B.

I had the veggie pho (with veggie broth), some sweet potato fries, and a veggie egg roll. I guess all I can say is that the pho was perfect, the sweet potato fries were tasty, and the egg roll had taro in it. Everything should have taro in it :) Actually, I could say more. The service was great and they obviously knew a lot of their customers by name. It's the kind of place that inspires customer loyalty. It's kind of far from home for me but if I I need a meal in Bellingham, I'd consider it again. Especially on a chilly overcast day like today, a nice bowl of pho is just the ticket.

  • Aaron A.

I love everything about The Soy House! I know this is a primarily talked about as a pho place, but it is so much more. I am a vegetarian who despises cilantro, so usually I find pho pretty bland and boring. So I almost always order the Tofu sandwich here. It comes with peanut sauce, strips of tofu, avocado and mayo. It sounds crazy, but it is incredibly delicious. The fresh-baked bread at the Soy House is wonderful, as are the sweet potato fries and veggie egg rolls. AND they make their own organic soy milk. The place is clean and everyone is super-friendly. I go through a lot of water when I eat, and they are very, very attentive with a pitcher of lemon water. I've also tried a green bean dish that was very delicious, but I strongly recommend that tofu sandwich. I can't wait to go back and try more of the vegetarian items. Hmmmm, maybe I'll go again for lunch today?

In my honest opinion, anyone who raves about an $8 banh mi has either never had banh mi before, or doesn't realize that he can pay A LOT less for the same thing further south along the I-5 corridor. The banh mi I know costs $3 or less, comes in about 12 different varieties, and is sold at a non-descript Mom-and-Pop Vietnamese cafe. I have been to Soy House a couple of times. I really like Vietnamese food, but Soy House is a little too hoity-toity for my taste. It's too nice inside, and the food is overpriced. For pho, I would much rather go to Pho Ly, not too far away in Cordata. I'm much more used to the kind of food and atmosphere there.

Call me picky, but the kind of Vietnamese restaurant I want is a hole in the wall, cheap as dirt, but awesomely dee-lish. That being said: I liked the ambiance, perfect for a date. The menu was ok. I didn't have too many choices due to my pescetarianism, but they had the standards. They did get my boyfriend's order wrong, but we aren't the type to send it back. He liked it, but it just wasn't what he wanted. My mother is vietnamese, so I feel like I have pretty high standards when it comes to this type of cuisine. I also moved up here from the Everett area and have traveled to different cities "little Saigon" and have eaten at many a Vietnamese restaurant. This place's prices are higher than what I am used to. When I saw how much a vietnamese sandwich was, I couldn't believe it. Anywhere else a vietnamese sandwich is under 3 bucks. The problem is that this is the only place in town that has them. Bottom Line: If I wasn't vietnamese and was originally from here, I would give it 5 stars. It is the best place in bellingham for Vietnamese that I have tried. P.S. If you are in Everett, the best place I've ever been to is Pho Hung on Evergreen. (Only place I can find Ban Xeo (vietnamese crepe)

I've eaten here a few times now and will continue to make it a regular stop when in the area. As others have stated the Pho is excellent. Huge portions on the Pho. I always think it would be perfect for 2 or 3 people to share and then I proceed to slurp up every drop by myself without hesitation. I tried a sizzling beef dish most recently. It's #47 on the menu. It comes out to your table on a sizzling iron skillet dish much like a fajita at a mexican joint. You eat eat over a large bed of rice. I want to try some more menu items but between the Pho and the sizzling beef dish I don't know if I can. Like my granny used to say if it aint broke don't fix it. If she was here today she'd say don't walk, run down to the Soy House and get ya some great grub.

I read the reviews and had to try the restaurant . My wife ordered the curry dish and I had the pho. The curry was great but could have been a little more spicy and the pho was certainly up to par. Soy house was busy when we arrived but didn't wait long for a table. Our waitress was nice and the food arrived quickly. Can't wait to return and try more dishes.

  • Linda D.

The waiter there was kind of a "I want to be cool so i don't need a paper to take down your order" kind of guy and it was just very awkward for me and the people I went with. Also the utensils were dirty the forks and the cups it was gross to me, but luckily they have chopsticks where you just open it out of the package. The food is perfectly fine and I find it awesome that they take time to recognize people as regulars there so if you go often they will know what you want off the bat.

  • Kath U.

I agree with Aaron A. on this one about not only the vegetarian sandwich but ALL the sandwiches. They are delicious. Yes, the bread is so good & you get a choice of sweet potato fries or spring rolls in addition to the sandwich . I don't know what some of the people here are saying about portion as the portions here are more than ample. I can never eat it all. The pho is very good as are the noodle dishes. Service is always good & yes this place is very clean & modern. The sandwiches are $7.99! You get a crappy paninni at Haggen by itself for the same price out of the deli! All the hole in the wall Vietnamese restaurants I have been in with a sandwich under $3 have been pretty dirty. And guess what a couple of the ones that I have been to right here in Bellingham that were only a couple of dollars less for stuff were pretty dirty as well. I don't mind an extra $5 for a place that has higher standards for hygiene. For our area up here in Bellingham it is one of the better places to eat with a nice vegan selection. I'm glad it is here & sometimes I crave that sandwich! I'm Italian & feel very much like Rose E. about Italian food as she does about Vietnamese food so I understand where she is coming from. She is definitely a better judge for authenticity & variety of Vietnamese food than I am. I'm definitely picky about Italian food having being raised eating the best & there are certain dishes that you just can't find so I totally understand what she means

It serves mostly safe versions of Pho. No tendons...no tripe. However, their broth is pretty good, clean and not loaded with MSG. We had the egg spring rolls, which was decent and not too oily. Didn't try the sweet potato fries though...would've clashed with my pho. I had the Hu Tieu, which was a noodle soup, with a combination of egg and rice noodles with BBQ'd and ground pork. It was mostly egg noodles, which was a shame and there wasn't much BBQ pork. Slightly dissapointing, but if you want noodles and you are in the area, you should come here.

Owner is always friendly, and the wonton soup is my wife's fav medicine when she doesn't feel well. I usually go for the rare beef pho, which is excellent.

  • Noah B.

This place is clean, Clean, CLEAN! Nice menu, friendly staff, and A rated food. It is Americanized though. I am used to eating Pho with tripe, tendon, and raw beef. This place doesn't sell that because of their clientele. I spoke with the waiter about it. However, I had a noodle, tofu, peanut sauce dish and it was excellent, fresh, reasonably priced, and the service was fast. I would definitely go there again.

  • Taryn D.

WOW. Absolutely mouthwatering menu selection and food! I was also pleasantly surprised by the ambience and can't believe I passed it by without going in until now and I live across the street. Now I know why it's always busy! Kudos, chef!

Nice place. Off hand I would say the best (non Pho) Vietnamese in Bellingham. While their pho is good, I find the rest of the menu to be excellent. Other than one place on the east coast, the best. Probably number two in Bellingham for pho. The crepe / pancake is done quite well. (try it vegetarian) The only improvement I can think of would be the addition of some of the interesting (non alcoholic) drinks that can be found in other Vietnamese restaurants.

I like the clean environment of the restaurant, food is okay but waayyyy overpriced!!! Also service is bad, this lady seat customer wt No hello, no smile on her face, i jus dont feel like she is friendly! So overall 2 stars was for being clean n nice environment only.

  • Aly H.

I thought this place was a great compromise for my husband and I. He's a meat eater- I'm not. There were plenty of delicious options for both of us. The avocado sandwich was delicious! My only criticism is the lack of dining space. The tables and chairs are squished into a narrow and cluttered entryway and hallway. In desperate need of a remodel!

    (4)
  • Jahan D.

Soy House always has top notch service, fresh ingredients and is always extremely clean and tidy. There menu offers standard Vietnamese food as well as some nice fusion dishes. Their pho is a little too sweet for my tastes but their sandwiches and noodle dishes are great. Definitely one of the best Asian restaurants in Bellingham.

I have just moved back to Bellingham after living in Seattle and south King County for the last 10 years. I was really worried I would not be able to find a place to get my pho fix so far up north. There are not alot of asian markets up here and being able to get high quality ingredients might be difficult. So having been here a week and going through pho withdrawl I trekked to the Soy House. The server (owner?) Tony, was very friendly and answered all of my nosy questions about wher e he gets his ingredients and does he have Bia 33 beer? Which, he did! So I ordered the pho tai and a fresh roll. Both were really good. I was pleasantly surprised and very happy with the pho broth. It was very light and clear. As it should be. And I could really smell and taste all the lovely spices and beefiness. Yes it is a little pricey but Bellingham is a good 90 minutes from chinatown in Seattle so I do not expect to get a 2 dollar bahn mi here. I am happy to have this place nearby so when I feel the craving for good fresh pho I will know where to go!

  • Rob G.

This is one place that get's it right. The service is great, the food perfectly prepared / presented and the prices are very fair. The strip mall is a bummer but once inside it has a nice hole-in-the-wall feel. We go there often and the only thing I cant recommend is the fried rice dish. It's good, but nothing I cant make at home. Everything else we have tried we've really enjoyed. A bonus is they are very kid friendly here. This is the best Vietnamese restaurant I know of north of Seattle.

  • Matt C.

Looking for good Pho, at a reasonable price? Soy House is definitly one of my top picks. They have a fairly diverse menu, all of which tastes great. The service is great too. The only thing I would change is the portions, I could eat more Pho, they only have one size option.

    (4)
  • Steph G.

This place is awesome! They have the best banh mi (sandwiches) I have ever had. We always get the beef banh mi and, I haven't been able to figure out exactly what they marinate the meat in, but it is delicious and the bread is perfect. They also have a soup (can't remember the name - but it's not one of their phos) that it is Saigon-style that is out of this world. And the owner and his wife are super friendly and go out of their way to make our visits special. Last time we were there the owner gave us some samples of different Vietnamese-style pizzas that he was creating. They were really tasty.

  • P K.

Nice, clean, classy restaurant. Service was prompt and attentive. We were brought ice water while we perused the menu. Tea was available, but at a cost. Good tea (Numi brand) though. I ordered the combination pho - this had beef meatball as well as medium rare flank steak. Broth had cilantro, green onions, and yellow onions. No sign of MSG that I could detect. Too bad it does not come with tendon, tripe, or brisket, especially at the price of $9/bowl. The bowl was generous in what it did have and I was very full at the end. Accompaniments include basil, bean sprouts, jalepenos, and lime. I noticed that the Vietnamese sandwiches were a rather steep $8.

This place is amazing!!! The service is excellent, all the staff is very friendly. The first time I went was with a friend who wanted some pho. I wasn't very hungry so I just ordered the chicken salad thinking it was...well just a salad. To my surprise, OH MY it was decadence! I crave that salad now! I have no idea how they cook that chicken but I strongly urge you to try it. My friend raved about the pho which says a lot since she's pretty picky about her pho. I also took my 2.5 year old son there who I ordered one of the little pizzas for. He loved it too. So far I haven't ordered anything on this menu that wasn't amazing. The atmosphere can go casual or a step up, however you want to go...its kind of cool that you'd feel comfy dressed up or in jeans. Definitely a fan and I'll be back many times over!

    (5)
  • Kim S.

Went for lunch and had the veggie pho which was pretty darn good (i'm pretty picky since I can really good pho in Seattle). I also ordered fresh rolls to go but wasn't impressed - they had really hard crunchy pieces of lettuce and no rice noodles. The peanut sauce was good. I definitely will be coming back for a pho craving when in B'ham. The place is really clean and the owner(?) was really nice. There was a younger guy who originally waited on me and he was difficult to understand.

Great Atmosphere, awesome staff, wonderful food. Lot's of vegetarian and gluten free options. The BEST vegetarian spring rolls in town. Also their soymilk and tofu are made fresh in house and they are so delicious. Best thing I put in my mouth in months.

  • Marty B.

We were delighted by everything we ordered particularly the Vietnamese pizza. We can't get over talking about it - lemongrass pork with garlic cilantro sauce. It was by far the best pizza we have ever had and that includes all of my homemade ones.

When I think of Pho (which is often) this is always the place I want to go. Love their Pho, I've tried most every variety on the menu, and all are excellent. If you are vegatarian or gluten free, this place will happily cater to that and give you a wonderful meal. They even have gluten free soy sauce. This place is very family oriented, are always kind and give great service. I would eat here constantly if I could (I'm a student, so I'm broke).

    (5)
  • Katie H.

I love Soy House! They have vegan pho and it is amazing. The service is fantastic. I keep thinking I'm going to try something new, but I always get the tofu pho with added veggies. The deep fried tofu is so tasty. And adding veggies for 2 bucks is a great deal (carrots, zucchini, mushrooms, broccoli, and green beans!).

  • Brandon V.

I had lunch here and the price was quite reasonable. I had pho gà (chicken pho) which was quite good. If you've never had pho before I recommend trying it. Its basically vietnamese chicken soup. Pronounced similar to the "fu" in fun. My wife had the pho bò (beef pho) which was also good. The fresh spring rolls were not the best I've had because they had a lot of lettuce. The peanut sauce for them was very good though. Overall I think the place was simply average. I might go there again.

    (3)
  • Tom M.

Pretty good Pho. I like the variety you can get at this place. I seem to remember that you can get "Vietnamese Pizza" and Ban Mi as well. Service is fast. And there always seem to be a steady stream of people coming in to dine. We usually stop here after we have been outside in the cold for a bit. Nothing warms you up faster then some Pho with a good dousing of Siracha sauce in it. I

This place is hands down the best pho in Bellingham. If you are vegetarian pho lover go here! Many other Vietnamese restaurants in town use meat products in their vegi pho broth. I always come for the vegi pho but everything on the menu is delicious and done very well. The service is always amazing. A pleasant atmosphere every time, clean space and such nice people. Try it out!

  • Lauren H.

This place is absolutely wonderful! The staff is very attentive (plenty of water refills and napkin retrieval). The food is excellent too. The portions are perfect. Nothing to make you feel overly stuffed, but very satisfying. The flavors are great. Very fresh, nothing was previously frozen before it was served to us. Great prices for what you get. A friend and I had quite the pleasant lunch there and I will definitely be returning often.

Bellingham is so lucky to have The Soy House! Have taken my family there a few times. The food and service has been top notch. Fresh, homemade Vietnamese in very clean, terrific atmosphere. The Pho is perfect. Price is very reasonable. This is a true gem.

  • Bhaltair M.

I have to say that this is the best Vietnamese food I've ever had. The owners are great and friendly, and the food is out of this world. Just a note - they will give you hotter food than you can get from any Thai restaurant in Bellingham. It's out of this world! My favorite is the spicy beef - 'extra spicy!'

    (5)
  • Brandon B.

While the appearance is spectacular and the people are nice, it pales in comparison to Pho Ly just a block away. The food is more expensive here and comes in smaller portion sizes. They also make you pay for the tea. Not that I don't understand, it's new and in this economy you can't be giving away much, however I feel that prices are only justified by the brand new building they inhabit, not so much in what they provide. I ordered pho, spring rolls, and a noodle dish (name fails me) and was happy with what I got, but kept comparing it to Pho Ly and seeing the difference in price sting harder by the smaller portions.

    (3)
  • Chelsea H.

Friendliest staff at a restaurant! Everyone was so welcoming, and eager to make our experience wonderful. The food was exceptionally fresh and had unique flavors. Their homemade peanut sauce was to die for. I had their side salad with the peanut dressing, and didn't want it to end it was so good. We will definitely be back!
