This is one of my favorite chinese restaurants in Bellingham. Even though Rei A. says don't order the americanized mongolian beef, not only is it one of my favorite dishes there, it's my favorite mongolian beef in town. Even on the occasion that the food isn't great, I find it to be at the very least good. I haven't had a dish that I found inedible.

I thought it was pretty good. Really nice folks too. Maybe the neon sign outside works against them. It shows the some guy's face in the latter stages of some gastro-intestinal event.

This is the only place our family goes to eat Chinese. Since I am Chinese, I am pretty picky about it. We always get Sesame Chicken and the home made potstickers are drool-inducing. Sam always comes out to say hi and his wife Jessica is so sweet and my daughter grew up playing with their daughter in the restaurant whenever we go to eat. Juts don't order "Americanized" dishes like Mongolian Beef and you will enjoy. We hope they stay forever!

DO NOT be put off by the slightly sketchy looking exterior, this is a diamond in the ruff. I have been going to this place for years! And will continue doing so. The lunch specials, are always delicious and well priced. I love the broccoli and beef, and I normally don't eat beef very often. Sam and his wife are super friendly and always come over and chat with you, I have never experienced this level of service anywhere, in any restaurant that I have eaten at. Keep up the good work guys!

The food is like BANG! For real! As soon as I took one bite I was overcome with emotion because life had never tasted so ZESTY! In that instant, a jolt of yumminess rippled all the way from my quivering tastebuds right into the core of my soul! I wanted to run out into the street and stop traffic just to share the good news, like, "Hey, y'all! I just got punched in the puss with a veritable potpourri of FLAVOR!" If I were on death row and I got to request one last meal, I would ask them to bring me a bathtub filled with Mongolian Beef from New Peking. I would take off all my clothes, bury myself in the tub, and then eat my way out. Then I would be ready to meet the Lord.

New Peking is a no-frills family establishment that may be showing its age, but which still manages to turn out some yummy food right in the heart of Bellingham. Their hot 'n sour soup is some of the best ever, and their sesame chicken is a favorite of the kids. They offer pretty much all of the usual Chinese restaurant selections, and I've never had a bad meal here. The service is friendly, too, and as a long-time customer it's been fun watching the family grow and come to help out in the restaurant. When my kids were little they would always make them a little bowl of chicken and rice, so sweet. This is also a great place for takeout. They're fast and the portions are HUGE. If you eat in, be sure to check out the wall 'o fortunes, featuring dozens (if not hundreds) of fortunes left by customers over the years.

Was disappointed in the New Peking. The food was marginal at best. Ordered Mongolian Beef and it looked like it was reheated from the night before, very liquidity and the green onions limp and no sign of the dried white noodles and the portion size was small . We had three dishes for over $30.00 Obviously, not using fresh vegetables

Love this restaurant, the owner Sam and Jessica were very pleasant people. Love the food especially the roasted duck, yummy. The sesame shrimps, the fried noodles and fried rice. Basically everything were good. I recommend to anybody who love authentic Chinese cuisine should give them a try.

One of my favorite Bham restaurants! The owners know myself and my friends on a first name basis. I almost always order the same thing; sizzling rice soup and an order of sesame shrimp with cashew nuts.

The best Chinese food in town!!! It's such a quaint Ma & Pa restaurant with the freshest ingredients & best service. The owners (Sam & Jessica Chang) will be your host/hostess, they'll take your order, cook it, & serve it in the quickest friendliest manner. My girlfriend & I make it a weekly ritual to eat here ATLEAST once a week! With their tasty lunch specials priced at an affordable $5.95, you'll never leave hungry, or without a smile from ear to ear. The next time you return (wich you will after your 1st experience!), Sam & Jessica will remember your names & orders making you feel like a true friend & customer! EAT HERE!

Someone I know recommended this place, so my roommate Josh and I tried it out. The inside is super Asian with uncountable number of little trinkets, statues and paintings. There are also fortune cookie fortunes along the walls in between the bricks. The place was pretty empty when we arrived there around 2pm, and we got seated right away. The owner's wife brought out some tea for us, and when she found out that my friend was Chinese and could communicate in the language, she smiled and acted even more friendly than before. The husband came and took our orders and he made small talks with Josh as well. He kindly explained some of the dishes for me. The food was all right. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't spectacular either. I ordered the Mongolian beef lunch special, which was only around 6 dollars for a fair amount of food. I agree with the other reviews about this place. The food is definitely pretty good, but it's the service and the friendliness of the owners that makes me want to come back.

I love this place!! Sam and his wife, the owners, are the nicest people and from the moment you walk in you feel like family. He always checks in with us and is super attentive. The food is great too. I love the Mongolian Beef and the Hot an sour soup. If you aren't sure what to order just ask they are full of helpful suggestions based on what you like. Sam is always telling my friends and I the the tea will help with our digestion because we just slurp it up. The ambiance is pretty kitschy but i love all the knich knacks and hand made art by the owners daughter. We like to stick our fortunes in the brick walls with all the others. Overall this place is hands down the best in Bellingham. It will be your Chinese home away from home.

Four generations of our family love eating at the New Peking! The food is fresh and delicious. They serve the best Moo Shu I have had anywhere. I highly recommend eating here for lunch and dinner. For a real treat, let Sam know a day ahead of time that you want the Peking duck. Other favorites are the sizzling rice soup, broccoli chicken and any of the lunch specials.

Literally the worst Chinese food I have ever had. The restaurant smells like old cooking oil, the air inside feels thick and heavy. The "chow mein" they served us was in fact chow mein crackers, not real noodles. The food tastes like it has been cooked with old oil. The chicken dish that I got actually tasted like extremely old oil, and nothing else. It's as if they use the same batch of cooking oil for three weeks before throwing it out.

First time there we weren't sure about this place since we were the only people there. Omg! Food was amazing, not grease/oily at all, everything was so fresh and clean. Food was very authentic, the flavors and spices were just the right ones. Service was extremely quick and friendly. We just can't wait to come back! If you're looking for some "home style" food, this is the right place. Absolutely love it!

It's pretty hard to find good, authentic Chinese in Bellingham. Apart from this place, I don't think it exists. This place may not seem very vibrant or welcoming on the outside, but the inside is bursting with colorful knick knacks and kitsch. The food is Schezuan style, and it's delicious. I especially love the lemon glazed fish. Everything is delicious, and the owners are a very sweet family of three. If you're tired of the American Chinese at Best Chopsticks, give this place a shot. You won't be sorry!

OMG...what a horrible meal!!!! Some friends and I went based on an amazing review written in the Weekly. The write up made this food sound fresh, delicious and worth a trip. Wrong, so...so wrong. The sweet and sour chicken was more like Drowning Chicken, the pineapple canned and the few veggies thrown in were not even remotely cooked. My lemon chicken was equally as bad, again drowning in a massive pile of gelatinous goo. The portion of chicken was so small, one must move very quickly to get it out of the sauce. We mentioned the ridiculous amount of sauce to the owner, she replied people like lots of sauce and we should say something next time ( like we should know it came drowning)!!! The other owner apologized but too late. I do not recommend at all...unless you like drowning, small portioned and poorly cooked food.

I love this place! Family run, the people here are so nice and genuine. Come in once, talk to them, and they'll remember you forever. I've been here a few times, took my boyfriend for the first time recently. When he met Sam, the owner, first thing he said was "This guy missed his calling in Vegas, he shoulda been a lounge singer/entertainer!" Sam is a riot. I think the food is great for Chinese food. The hot & sour soup is one of the best I've had, their moo shu is really good, I really like their orange chicken, and the seafood chow mein was downright tasty. The beef and sweet and sour dishes were ok, not the best I've had, but still decent. Overall if your looking for yummy, decently priced Chinese food with really great (often entertaining) service, this is the place.

Good food, quaint atmosphere, REALLY nice staff. Went here with a friend who just came back from a 3 year stint in China who wanted to order us traditional food in Chinese and they were very accommodating. Good sauces on the food, the Kung Pao Chicken was very tasty. They brought us as much rice and tea as we wanted and prices were very reasonable. Good selection of Vegetarian dishes too.

After my first visit I'm already convinced this is the best Chinese food in Bellingham. I've put off trying this restaurant for a long time because of the shady exterior, all those wasted years! The food arrives as they make it, pipping hot. We ordered several common Chinese dishes (General Tso's, Orange Chicken, Mushu Pork) and all were phenomenal. The breading on the chicken was the thinnest and crispiest I've ever had from a Chinese restaurant, and the sauces all had great flavor. I'd also recommend the hot and sour soup, it is a revelation. As if this wasn't enough to have me coming back, all of the staff is super friendly and funny, and even the Chef came out to ask us how our meals were and to educate us on the benefits of generous tea consumption. Overall I had a great time, and left full and happy.

My favorite Chinese restaurant in Bellingham. Great family owned business that we found over 15 years ago. It's a family tradition to go eat there whenever we are all back in town. I base all my Chinese meals on this restaurant and have yet to find one that I enjoy as much.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
