Never disappointed when I go to Fairhaven fish and chips! The food take a bit longer to prepare because it not fast food folks, but well worth the wait!!! Try the coconut shrimp or just go with the fish and chips! I love taking my out-o-town guest there because it just plan fun! Especially when the weather is nice! A double decker bus is their store front and outdoor seating is plentiful. This is a Fairhaven must!

Great place run out of an old double decker bus. Have a couple tables and a small gazebo building with seating. Immediately got my cup of deliciously creamy clam chowder that had a healthy serving if fresh and local veggies. The salmon fish and chips was also good and slightly different than the more traditional cod fish and chips. If only I wasn't so full from the delicious fish and chips and chowder, I might have gone for one of their 20+ flavors of soft serve ice cream. A great inexpensive and casual lunch for a lazy afternoon in the Fairhaven area.

Delicious food, but don't be in a hurry, as service can take a while - the sign even says "We aren't fast food." The fish is fresh, perfectly battered and fried, the cole slaw is home-made and delicious, and their selection of Italian sodas, ice cream, and other insundries is fantastic. Stepping up the speed of service a little bit would increase this review from 4 starts to 5 ... 20 minutes is just a bit long to wait.

Best fish and chips ever. Fish was crispy with no detection of grease. Great selection of salmon, halibut, cod or shrimp. The chips were chips. Looking forward to trying their clam chowder.

Had to cross the border so we found this place for lunch! Was super yummy! My husband had the fishermen's basket which included all 3 fish. He said the halibut was the best. Our 10 month old son who we do baby led weaning with liked all the fish my husband gave him. I had a two piece chicken basket and they gave me 3 because the pieces were on the smaller side but it was more than enough for me. My son had some and my husband helped me finish the rest. Everything came out hot and the fries are a mix between potato wedges and steak fries. Mmm. Definitely would go back.

My girlfriend and I explored downtown Bellingham last Saturday after going to the Skagit Tulip Festival. We both love fish and chips, so we decided to stop at Fairhaven Fish and Chips for lunch. The fried fish tasted great. The batter was a bit too heavy and greasy. When you have outstanding fresh fish, you don't need to hide it with tons of batter. The tartar sauce was on point. I liked that the chips were thick potato wedges. The coleslaw was just fine. Overall, it was a really good version of fish and chips. If I visit Bellingham again, I will definitely return.

Small food stall made out of an old double decker red bus. Food made to order so a bit of a wait. Three tables inside a old gazebo and rest is outdoor seating. Order and pay first . Coleslaw was fresh and crispy with just right amount of dressing (not soupy). Halibut, cod, salmon and chicken. For the kids, 50 flavors of soft serve.

Stopped here on our drive from Seattle to Vancouver and we were not disappointed! Crispy fish and chips and great ice cream. Both the halibut and cod were perfectly fried (we didn't try the salmon, but I wish we had!). The food did take a while, but the signs warn you of that before you order. Well worth the wait!

After visiting Bellingham a few times and seeing the London bus, we thought it would be a good idea to try this place out and see if the fish and chips are as good as back home in Blighty. Reading the reviews suggested that it was worth a trip, so we drove up from Marysville this morning in eager anticipation. WOW, not been as disappointed in a long time. Asked for the cod well done, when it came it was no different to that awful soggy battered stuff you get in Grocery Outlet. Seriously folks, the fish was tasteless,(straight out of the freezer as we saw the girl unloading it) the batter sloppy, and the chips were so bland it was like eating cardboard. It wasn't cheap either, almost $12 for 3 pieces of cod and chips. I wouldn't go back here and honestly, if you think these are good fish and chips well you really do need to look further afield. They aren't. A trip to C Lovers in Abbotsford just over the border would have you in raptures, now they know how to cook this simple but very tasty meal.

My family and I drove up to visit my sister and she told us to go try this place. She was right to recommend it, probably one of the best fish & chips I've had! You may have to wait for a table, it can get pretty busy in summer. But the wait is defiantly worth it! I got the cod and it was nice and crunchy! The fries are very good too!

Such a wonderful little spot. The seating, surprisingly, wasn't terrible either, it being mostly outdoor and all. There's a neat little space with indoor seating too, for people who prefer it. The employees are all very friendly as well. I had their Fisherman's Basket and my boyfriend had their Dover Sole sandwich and clam chowder. Both were absolutely delicious. Not to mention their coleslaw. They also have various flavors of soft serve ice cream as well as a variety of milkshakes. Their cranberry milkshake was delicious. Definitely making it a thing to grab lunch here every time I'm in town.

Very saddened, can not find it open any of the past 4 days.. The hours posted do not seem to be when they are open. My husband was looking forward to trying the fish and chips.

Never been a huge fan. There are a handful of places much better than this just north of the boarder in White Rock.

Overall a very quality "fast food meal". The salmon fish and chips have incredible taste and are clearly freshly prepared. The french fries have a great seasoning. The service is quick for being freshly cooked (about a ten minute wait during a busy time at the location). The area that lost a star is that they charge a quarter for a cup of ice water- even if you order a meal that is over $10 dollars in cost. Paper cups do not cost a quarter to buy from Costco- they cost under a nickel. To charge a quarter for water is just the business owner being greedy.

I don't like fish and I had one of the fish and chips and was the best fish and chip I have ever eaten.

Call before you go. They seem to randomly close. We went and they closed an hour early. I asked if they were really closed and they said "yes it's too hot."

This is the best fish and chips place in whatcom county! They also have really good ice cream, we can here on a whim and now we are regulars

In the center of the Fairhaven part of Bellingham, excellent choice of fish and chips. Cod, halibut, and even salmon. Didn't try the salmon but everything e had was excellent. Only 3 tables inside, do come off peak of you don't want to sit at tables outside.

I stopped by here during my drive to Vancouver from Seattle. It was recommended on Yelp and in a way it was a good idea. The town was "historic" and this place had pretty good fish and chips. But for the price, I think it's overrated. The taste was good but didn't really stand out from other fish and chips. The portions were small given that the taste was only good. I would suggest to try it at most or at least stop by to take a picture of the unique store.

I wish we lived closer so we could come here at least once a month. We made two trips here over one three-day weekend-- once on the way to Vancouver and once on the way home. On our first trip, we ordered a Fisherman's basket (1 salmon, 1 cod, 1 halibut + fries + cole slaw) for me and a 1-pc halibut meal for my man who hates/does not eat fish. That's right-- this man that I have been with for nearly a decade and who has NEVER eaten fish in my presence ate a piece of halibut from this place because a co-worker told him this was the best fish & chips this side of the Pond. He liked it! Mostly, he said, because of the malt vinegar he doused it with, but nonetheless I felt like I had witnessed a miracle! I loved all three types of fish, but if I could only order one, the halibut wins. The piece of cod was small compared to the halibut, and eating fried salmon is a little strange, even if it is delicious. The chips (potato wedges) were not the best (especially compared to poutine-eating Vancouver where they have certainly mastered the art of frying potatoes!), but still good. The cole slaw was yummy, though we added some pepper to make it even better! We were stuffed after this meal, so we didn't go back to the counter to order shakes or soft serve. Also, we wanted to hit the road to get to Vancouver, and we had already waited a good 20 minutes or so for our food. However, that list of two dozen flavors taunted us, so on our way home, we stopped for a quick snack. My man got an espresso shake and I got an English toffee cone. Both were delicious and so worth the detour for! It didn't take quite as long for the frozen treats to be prepared, and we had a delightful stroll around the really cute downtown area of Fairhaven while we enjoyed them. We can't wait to go back!

Great fish and chips, kinda on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for!

  • Tom G.

This place had a great reviews on yelp so I was expecting a lot. I had the fisherman's basket consisting of salmon haddock and cod. The meal was disappointing. The finished pieces were a bit on the dry side and the better used to cook the fish came out crunchy and tasting is all the oil that they were cooked in was old. While it is cute to step up to a double-decker bus to order your food, the result of eating there was a downer.

Place is awesome year-round! Sit outside and enjoy the Pacific Northwest when it isn't raining. Enjoy a small indoor seating area when it is. Best fish and chips in town! Crisp batter and perfectly cooked fish every time.

How I heard of this place: I had seen the red, double-decker bus on the corner of Harris Avenue and 10th Street for years before having an opportunity to sample its fresh-fried fare. Since I tried it, the salmon and halibut with soft and flavorful jo-jos have yet to be beat. Type of cuisine: Fried fish and other seafood (including shell-fish) with hearty, thick jo jo potatoes. The establishment is also known for its soft-serve ice cream in over twenty flavors. Ambiance: Child friendly with plenty of outdoor seating available, the establishment requires one to walk up to the window outside the bus to place orders before taking your seat at one of the large picnic tables (with umbrellas) or in the small gazebo. What I ordered: I have sampled both the salmon and the halibut in the past. On this venture, we ordered a 3-piece halibut and chips ($11.95) to split between two. The basket came with tarter sauce and a side of cole slaw. What I loved: I loved the freshness of the halibut and the crispy-ness of the batter. I love that the batter is not puffy and deceiving as to the size of the fish you expect to be inside. The batter on these large pieces of fish sticks directly to the tender, juicy meat and is graced with flavor and the perfect fish 'n chips texture. The fries are lightly seasoned, thick cut and melt-in-your-mouth soft goodness. Why I loved it: I love the ambiance of a true fish 'n chips joint. Outdoor seating whether the temperature outside is cold or hot. The corner placement is perfect for people watching or basking in the sun while enjoying some of the best fish 'n chips the Pacific Northwest has to offer! Cost: Average to high ($8-$12 for a basket of fish 'n chips)

I had Chicken and chips because I'm not a fish person, but the rest of the group had fish and chips. Halibut, cod, hand cut chips- very tasty. Picnic tables outside. Very nice find. Thanks Yelp!

This was the perfect end to our walking tour of Fairhaven. We stopped here for cod, salmon, and clams. Everything was wonderful, delicious, and served with a smile. Love the outdoor seating and the special treatment for our puppies.

they must of had the b-team working today. everything was over cooked and the fish pieces were tiny.

It's fish! It's chips! It's a big red bus! The fish is great, a bit overpriced, but damn fine fish. The tartar is good. As a Northwesterner I require good tartar or F&C is a no-go. The chips are very good, and I am not a fry fan normally. The ambiance is obviously really cool, but that is also a pretty literal description here at the 49th parallel. I shudder to think of eating here in the dead of winter. If it weren't so expensive, I would go here more often, but it is worth the ducats for the occasion fishy fix.

We stopped in Fairhaven for a quick lunch on our way down to Seattle from Vancouver - and man was it delicious! We had the red chowder special and a salmon burger which are both made with local seafood. The burger was good but the chowder was to die for! I'd definitely recommend this place.

We found ourselves in Bellingham today and in search of a little nosh. We walked around for a bit and stumbled upon this gem. We sampled the cod, clam strips, and coconut shrimp. Everything was delicious! Clam strips and coconut shrimp are 2 standards for me and this place delivered and then some. I also had a peach Italian soda and the boy had black cherry soft serve...seriously yummy!

This is a great place to stop for lunch when you're spending the day in Fairhaven. It's especially nice when the weather is nice and you can eat your fish and chips at one of the tables in the little courtyard area. While it's a little on the pricey side for essentially carry-out, the fish is always cooked perfectly--succulent, fresh tasting fish and a crispy, not-too-thick coating. The fries are pretty average, but the fish is what you come for. The employees are very friendly and make your lunch a pleasant experience. The location is perfect as well: very close to all the cute shops in Fairhaven and just a few blocks to the waterfront park. I highly recommend Fairhaven Fish and Chips!

  • Emmaleah C.

This place is really good, the fish and chips are nice and fresh and the fries are always hot. The halibut is the best, it's very flavorful and much more dense of a fish compared to the cod. However it is much more expensive and you can't get a 4 piece of it. Overall this place is very expensive, especially for something like fish and chips, which is why I'm giving it 4 instead of five stars. The quality really is top notch though, so that almost makes up for it. I would come back but only occasionally due to the cost.

    (4)
  • Andrew P.

Definitely the best fish and chips in Bellingham. The fish (even the cod) was excellent and seasoned nicely. The fries were well-seasoned and crispy. Between the excellent food, and atmosphere of the place, it was a great place to sit and have a nice lunch.

As a British person living in Bellingham, I was very excited when I saw this place. I was hoping it would be very similar to home due to the red bus! However I was very disappointed and this the novelty of this place is not worth the money you spend on the overpriced food which is very mediocre. The fish and chips were very dry and I have tasted better around Bellingham, and of course do not cut it compared to the proper British fish and chips. I did expect that but when I asked what is the Italian soda even the staff took a long time to describe, when it is so simple! Don't think I will be going back it is a shame as I think this place could be amazing if they just made the food worth the price you pay

Had lunch there on a 70 degree April Saturday, sitting out on the deck. Nirvana. Bro George and I each had the small chowder, 4 piece cod and chips, bottled water. Chowder was excellent - creamy, some subtle tastes. Fish was excellent, fried exactly right. Chips were cut a little different, not as many as I'd like and probably am used to, but also excellent. Cole slaw was so-so (seemed dry and out of a bag); tartar sauce was delicious and a perfect compliment to the fish. Dining on the deck (8 tables?) was gorgeous on this warm spring day. Price was around $33 for two fish and chips at $11.00 each (great value), two small chowder at $3.50 each, two bottles water at $1.50 each. Big glass of water only 25 cents. The only thing barring 5 stars was the average slaw and a slight paucity of chips. Nice bookstore in the next block; various ice cream - coffee - other food options nearby. Now I've found my definite Bellingham fish and chips place...

SO AWESOME! Delicious. The best fish and chips I've had, anywhere. Get the fisherman's basket with one salmon, one halibut and one cod piece. May seem a bit overpriced but it's totally worth it for what you get.

The place is a very cute and located on the corner so it is very hard to miss. They consider themselves not a fast food restaurant , so if you are in a rush I suggest you pick somewhere else. They take their time when cooking which means they put effort in creating your food. They have fresh coleslaw and chowder along with their tater sauce. They tend to run out of chowder fast, so if you want to get some go early before everyone else get's it. I love how they have an area to eat inside and outside. The food was good and I loved the tatar sauce. I definitely will be coming back again sometime.

This is one of my favorite place to eat at in the state. the fish is fresh and amazing, i love that you have an option as to which kind of fish you want. the location is perfect for a nice day sitting outside and people watching.

Awesome fish and chips! Nice outside music across the street and street performers made if a perfect place to have dinner with our little dog eating outside. There is a small indoor eating area if you come without a pet.

Delicious! Hot and fresh fish and chips. I think it's a little pricey for the portions, but if I'm craving fish and chips this is where I go. The halibut and call od duty? Are always fresh, tender, lightly coated and fried. The chips are more like lightly seasoned miniature Jo Jo's. I think they're pretty good, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with good potato flavor. It's nice to be able to eat fried food and not taste the old oil the whole time. The tarter sauce is also very good. The atmosphere is great with the outdoor seating watching the shoppers in Fairhaven. Highly recommend for fish and chips in Bellingham!

Ok so this place has been recommended by many of my friends. It has some wonky hours throughout the year so if you go, check the Web for their seasonal hours or you might show up when they are closed--done this a few times myself. For the review....I think much of the excitement about this place is due to the fact that it's an old fashioned double decker English red bus. Funky and cool. Their fish is beer battered. I ordered the cod. I must admit that beer battered isn't my fav so keep that in mind. I'd give the fish a 3. Not amazing but not the worst I've had. Greasy as expected with beer batter. 2 pieces were pretty small and didn't seem like the best quality fish-I had a bit of the gray fat next to the skin, yuck. Fries are thicker cut and ok. Coleslaw is good--and I don't normally like slaw. A few inside seats with picnic tables outside which makes it fun on a sunny day. Over all? Wouldn't make a special trip for the fish but the funky, outdoors, Fairhaven atmosphere is fun.

I am sorry. I really want to love you, but I just can't. Based on my experience of 1) 1 piece of halibut and 2) New England clam chowder, I have to say the food is pretty bad. I was amazed to see my one-piece halibut was half of what I would usually get in other fish and chips places I have been. I was looking around to see maybe, just maybe I'd find a piece that's accidentally being broken off or something but no, no luck. The potato fries were soggy and the coleslaw was mediocre. After one dip of that tar tar sauce I was done. I didn't know tar tar sauce can taste that bad. It was overly mayo-y. I know tar tar sauce was made mostly with mayo (side note I make my own) but I couldn't find capers or gherkins or taste any sweetener such as honey. The fish was over fried and the batter was thin. It lacked that light airy "crunch". It felt as if the fish came out from commercialized frozen pack. I was hoping the clam chowder can redeem itself but no, it didn't. I had a big problem with this chowder because it didn't taste like seafood. I am almost certain this is not made from seafood stock. If you were to blind fold me I wouldn't tell this is a clam chowder. The potato, clam, onion, carrots, and celery were tiny and I had to really dig hard to find any. The chowder wasn't hot. It was warm. This is probably one of my worst clam chowders I had. Even the canned ones taste more clam-y. I am sorry for being harsh like this. I was expecting real clam chowder like the ones from Swan Oyster Dept but yikes it was very disappointing. And you guys specialize in fish n chips? Really?

  • James T.

Why is this place getting such high marks from people? The fish is nasty and the place is horribly over priced. I can only surmise that the thought of having your food served from an old bus somehow makes people think it tastes better? It's not the worst fish I've eaten but it's not far from it. Stay away.

Since moving here this is simply my favorite place in town. I generally call ahead since there is 5 people in my family then take my fish and chips to larabee state park. this is my favorite way to spend a Saturday!!! I'm a big fan of the salmon but halibut is GREAT!!! and the COD is excellent too. Be sure to try some desert

    (5)
  • Sarah B.

Fish and chips perfection. The halibut is soooo delicious and tender here and the fries are perfectly crisp and seasoned. You can't go wrong with the cod or the salmon either. Love the outdoor space and the liveliness of this place during the summer lunch hour. Just be patient - it could be a wait for food as this place is high demand on sunny summer days. But always well worth it!

  • Natasha L.

This was an above average place for fish and chips. They didn't blow us away but the fish was fine and the tarter sauce was excellent. Cole slaw was good as well. We saw them hand batter the fish but think the fries were frozen. It's in a cute little bus on the corner and inside there are 3 tables for those rainy days. We shared a 4 piece cod and fries for about. $14. Would go back.

The perfect place to stop by while visiting Fairhaven during the summer. Your deep fried seafood delights are cooked to perfection and served piping hot from two trailers. I love the halibut fish & chips and the deep fried oysters! If my stomach could handle this on a daily basis, we'd have a problem. They also offer super affordable ice cream. I'll have to try the next time I visit.

This is a perfect place to stop especially on a warm day for either lunch or dinner. This 'restaurant' is located in an old double decker bus located in the Old Fairhaven District of Belllingham. My wife and I were visiting the area for our honeymoon.. We decided to stop for a late lunch and I of course ordered the traditional fish and chips made with cod. They offer fish and chips made with salmon as well. My wife order the chicken strips and fish along with lemonade. Everything was made fresh and the food was outstanding. Seating is located outside on picnic tables or a wood bar to sit at as well. The food was made quickly and tasted great. Lunch was served with coleslaw and what looked like house cut potatoes to make some nice chips. This location also offers a wide variety of ice cream. I am going to have to try that on my next visit.

Still as consistantly awesome as the last time we came. I had the special 1 pc halibut, chowder and slaw for 8.95. It didn't come with chips but we ordered a side of chips to go with our lunch. It was just as good as the first time, we even sat at the same table and barely beat the lunch rush :-) I also got to taste the orange soft serve. Delicious! Chowder was homemade but standard, nothing to rave about, but I lived in NE for a year so I have had amazing chowder. The prices are great for the quality. Way better than our local chain seafood. It's a must visit if you are in the area.

Fish was good. Had a cup of chowder which was really good, some fish and chips and a lemonade for $11. Not bad. We have to wait for tables inside because it was drizzling and we have a baby. Only 3 tables inside and more seats outside. Staff were nice too. Was a little disappointed after we found a strand of hair in our fries. I think whoever cooked it should start wearing a hair net. Over all, the place was just an ok for me.

How excited I was to see the 'bus' and know I may get some great fish & chips with all the British flare. After reading multiple reviews this place was definitely on my hit list so the expectations were way up to sink my teeth into some fried fish. It was a cold crisp day, sunny, my stomach was hungry, my partner in hand, and we were ready, just not ready for this from the end result. The one piece of halibut we ordered didn't come that quickly as we waited in anxiousness. Hunger wasn't taking us over, more like anticipation to see what the reviewers were saying was true, or not. I overheard the woman who owned and ran the joint who was speaking to someone else, as they were commenting on the bus that is this location, and said that they used to run this place as a hot dog stand, hmmm nice fact indeed, makes me wonder how the hot dogs would be if they stuck to that. We also ordered a small bowl of New England clam chowder to go along with our meal, as it was a cold day, and could potentially warm us up while walking around town. We sat around inside, with a few small tables, a tight space, but it was cozy. You could smell the oil in the air and wondered when the food would come to us. A make-shift interior that is connected to the bus structure with some tacky plaid tableclothes was the look in here. We decided to read a Fairhaven tourist guide and all of a sudden our food came. Let's start with the fish, it was kinda small, hold up, let me write this one again, it was small, like one piece, a small tiny weeny piece and a whole load of fries? What's up with this, unless your fishing for baby halibut this isn't how it should be (am I still paying for the bus?) I was expecting a lot more. Fine, small piece, this better be damn good to warrant your price tag.... Nope, a big no, like Highliner fishsticks may do better cooking it in my mini oven than what I put in my mouth. You ever eat something from your freezer hoping it was good, but you knew it was there since cavemen roamed the earth! It tasted freezer burned and mysterious, unlike anything halibut. You ever watch that Wendy's commercial talking about 'mystery' fish, well this felt like one of those moments that I did not know what I was eating, but I think I can identify that it was fish. The tartar sauce felt like something out of a Heinz squeeze tube and I was wondering whether to finish my duty of not wasting food with this white stuff or look for some ketchup! When you order fish and chips, you could care less for the chips, but when the chips are like this then you focus on the chips, and that is probably why I got more chips than fish. They weren't crunchy, but they were better than the fish, maybe it was the starch! The last dish, more like bowl, was the chowder. Clam chowder, where did the seafood go, it was like a correlation of seafood to potato again where there was a lack of seafood, this time the clams. The vegetables in this thing were not plentiful either, what was this thing I ate, it definitely was not CHUNKY soup, that might have gone down a little better. Maybe, just maybe I was here on a bad day, and I'm still trying to figure out the reviews of this place as I have had better, get back onto the road down I-5 and head on to Pike for some chowder! I've been to Ivar's too... for their fish. Come here for the bus, come here for that funky tourist shot, think hard if your coming for the food!

Fresh and delicious! Fries are sooooo good! Fish was seasoned well and very crispy on the outside- not soggy at all. Restaurant is located outside in downtown Fairhaven. Great location and great food! Definitely have to check this place out if you're craving fish and chips!

Best fish and chips I've had to date. This place is awesome in the summer, they even have a cute, small outdoor seating area. I have tried the salmon, cod, and halibut fish and chips. The fish tastes fresh and simply delicious and the chips are nice and golden. The last time I was there I had a bowl of their clam chowder which is TO DIE FOR.. soooo goood. On top of serving awesome fish and chips, they also serve every flavor of ice cream you can imagine. The summer hang out spot.

  • Yanira R.

I had the Halibut and chips... Love that the Halibut was awesome without the need of the tartar sauce (the way it should be!).. and the fries were, by far, the best I've tasted in a long long time... Loved the originality of the old bus turned restaurant.. Also, the fact that they have 30+ soft serve ice cream flavor is pretty cool!

Ordered: Fisherman Special (Salmon, Halibut, Cod); Scallops, Clams and Oysters, Espresso Ice Cream and English Toffee Ice Cream. Fish was delicious. Perfectly cooked, season and fresh! Chips were a bit soggy; if you're here for the chips... I've had better. Scallops were yum yum yummy! Clams were clam clam clammy... Wow did I taste the ocean in that. Felt like I licked the bottom of the ocean twice! The clam taste was super strong; it borderline blew me away. Whew! Oysters were okay...they also had an ocean taste. They were not amazing. Ice Cream was well....ugh. It wasn't as I had hoped in soft serve; average everyday soft serve. However in the middle of our ice cream experience there was a taste, almost as if we were licking iron bars. It was odd. I can't perfectly describe the flavor but it was an irony after taste. Eek.

It's fish from a bus! Despite the fact that it was raining, that they have almost no indoor seating, the place was busy when I arrived. People were eating under umbrellas in the rain! I would soon discover why. Fantastic Fish and Chips! Couldn't decide which fish to get so I got the sampler. Cod was good, salmon was excellent and the Halibut was awesome. The sides were great, especially the slaw. Highly recommended!

Old Bellingham offers quite a lot for eating indulgence. Tourists, without yelp's assistance that is, would have passed this place that is really a permanent food truck parked at the corner of the intersection. And they would have missed a great fish and chip place. Three kinds of fish: cod, salmon, and halibut. The shrimp batter has coconut and give a hint of sweetness. The fries are excellent, crispy on the outside, moist inside, and good potato flavor. The "indoor" seating is really a joke. You are expected to take it to go or sat outside facing the streets which give a not bad view. When I come back to Bellingham, this is where I am heading.

It was just ok, nothing special. I got the combo deal with 3 different pieces of fish but to me they all tasted the flavorless and all tasted the same. But the fish was really fresh and came out hot. They claim to have award-winning clam chowder but it was lacking flavor as well.

A must-see in Bellingham. Where else can you eat fish served out of a double decker bus? The kids meals include ice cream for dessert, and there are 20+ flavors to choose from. Do not go on a cold or rainy day because indoor seating is minimal.

This place is awesome! After a day on the cold blustery beaches near Chuckanut drive, Fairhaven fried fish and chowder is what the doctor ordered. King salmon is incredible. The halibut even better. Can't decide? Get the Fishermans basket that has both plus cod. Add a side of coconut shrimp and you have arrived, my friend. 4.5 stars and close to my heart.

Great fish, chips and people watching. A Fairhaven, "Must do" on a sunny day.

Fuck you, it's the best fish and chips i've ever had and I don't care what you have to say because It's about me right now and not you and if you could do be a huge favor give this place a try or another try and get the goddamn fisherman's basket because you need variety and get some clam chowdah too alright alright and finish the fucker off with ice cream or something ok ok ok good. This place is the place.

The fish and chips are actually really, really, really good. I like the fish and chips that are made here more than the ones made at restaurants around the area.

Yum! Good fish and chips. You can almost pretend that you're in merry ol' England. One of our "hidden gems" here in Bellingham. Look for the red double decker bus.

It's gonna boil down to taste and originality here. This is a cute little place. I mean, it's a double-decker bus with a little room attached! Of course, when I heard that, I thought I might be eating inside the bus, but the bus is a kitchen. So props for cuteness and quirk. Getting to the food, though, I ordered a classic Cod and Chips with the chowder of the day, a Manhattan style red. The chowder looked a bit like canned tomato sauce when it came out. I'm not used to seeing a red chowder so thick, but at first bite, it turned out to actually be pretty darn good. The flavor was very nice and rich and had lots of hearty clam notes with herbs and veggies. The fish and chips were crispy crispy! Of course there's malt vinegar on the tables which is awesome. The slaw was freshly made (as you can tell with any good slaw) and the tartar was good as well. The fish pieces are a bit on the smaller side, but the prices aren't too bad in the first place if you want to spring for 3 or 4 pieces. I enjoyed it. :)

THE BEST fish and chips I have ever had. Ever! Halibut fish and chips are delicious, tartar sauce pairs perfectly. The cole slaw is amazing! Always too full to finish all of my fries, great sized servings! Prawns are delicious as well.

When are they open for business? When I did stumble upon the double-decker open for business, I jumped on board. It looked dirty inside and fish was mediocre. I won't take that ride again.

Been here once and I would probably go back since I am local. It's okay, but not the best fish and chips I've very had. The flavor just didn't hit the mark and it wasn't fabulous. The location is great and has great charm as the little red bus on the corner. They had a large selection of choices along with some decent sides. Prices were good and the service was friendly. I would go back again and maybe try something else. But since it's called "Fairhaven Fish and Chips", I expected a bit more.

  • Julia H.

We were out there for lunch and I really enjoy Fish and Chips in there! Prices are there very reasonable! Especially for those kind of people who are student like me! Taste was great and atmosphere was really good too! Definitely will be back there!

Honestly, I was a bit let down. The fish didn't seem to have a whole lot of flavor compared to other places I've been. I tried the fisherman's basket and both the cod and the halibut tasted about the same. The coleslaw seemed lackluster, only slightly better than what KFC offers. I'll go back at some point to try the ice cream and their chowder but for price and flavor I'd almost just go to Ivar's.

My boyfriend and I drove up to Bellingham after checking out the tulip festival in Mt Vernon last weekend. We had our eyes on what I had been told were some amazing fish & chips. Overall, I came away pretty pleased. Jacci's has super solid and delicious cod & chips. The fries are AWESOME and the breading on the fish is superb. Eating outside here on a beautiful sunny day is one of the greatest things in the world! You can people watch, chomp down on some great food, and enjoy the warm weather. Next time I will take part in what looks like amazing soft serve ice cream. They have something like 25 flavors of soft serve and they all sound so delicious. I was dying to try the coconut! Word to the wise: it often takes a LONG time to get your food. There were a lot of people in front of us and it took at least 30 minutes for our food to be ready. It was pretty much worth it, but be prepared that it could be a long time until your food is ready (especially on a warm summer day!).

This little bus contains the best fish and chips ever encountered in my relatively short life. I seriously dream of these golden chips and fish all the time (niether Iowa or California fare can hold a candle to this). The delicious combos and soups are served out of an old british style double decker bus permanently parked in the Fairhaven district of Bellingham. The atmosphere and food provide a perfect atmosphere, as evidenced by the many diners even at 3 in the afternoon. It seems there is never a lull. And, added bonus, it's pretty cheap. For three people our total was under $30. Not bad in these days of $20 entrees and $12 drinks. The fisherman's basket probably marks the best menu item. You indulge in a piece of cod, one of Alaska halibut, and one of Alaska salmon. The diversity of fish allows for enhanced tasting and munching. The garlic chips can be dipped in a combo of house-made tarter sauce and ketchup (my favorite) and the cole slaw is also very good I hear (I don't eat cole slaw). The chowder is made with locally sourced clams and vegetables, so the greenies can get their fix too. If you have room after indulging in the fried goodies, check out their soft serve. I love the maple nut flavor and I've heard that every other flavor is just as good. For those of you who live close to Fairhaven Fish and Chips, please indulge in it frequently for those of us who live a thousand miles away.

This place is adorable. The fish and chips were great! My girlfriend and I were able to satisfyingly split a 4 piece cod and chips and a bowl of chowder. The total including tip came to about $19.00. There is also a bungalow alongside with comfortable indoor seating. Fairhaven Fish and Chips was the perfect lunch after a gorgeous, mile-walk from Woods Coffee in Boulevard Park.

Best Fish & Chips in town! This place is one stop on my family's "favorite day" tour. We walk the boulevard and Taylor dock, grab fish n chips here, and eat them on the Fairhaven green. And then go back for ice cream. Yum! If I had any beef, it's that this favorite day only can happen in non-rainy weather.

Simply LOVE the quirkiness of the litlte red double decker bus repurposed as an eatery. While aspects remind me of London, the hippy style inside it reminds me we are definitely in the 'Ham! It's cute, it's a good icebreaker for dates, etc. But I am not a new customer. I have been going here off and on over 5 years. Here are the changes, and not for the better: 1) Sloppy(er) kitchen. 2) The chowder and battered fish, although served hot, were lacking in anything truly outstanding, and it is a disappointment since I recall they used to use something else and now their food is just ho-hum. 3) The price is only a reasonable value if you are trying to impress the kids or a date with the location and quirkiness of HOW you are served.

    (3)
  • Stephanie K.

I love this place! From the outside, it looks like a place that focuses on kitsch & quirk (I mean, it's a double-decker bus!). But really, the focus is the food. The fish is fantastic (I usually go for the cod), and the batter is nice and light and crispy, rather than too thick or doughy. The cole slaw is fresh, and the tartar sauce is just right. And the chips. The chips! Honest-to-goodness delicious fried potatoes. The coconut prawns can't be beat, either. Also, the soft-serve ice cream is a great treat--it's very good, and there are lots and lots of flavors. I wish I lived closer, because I would love to be able to eat here more often! But I'm sure to stop by whenever I'm in Bellingham.

I love this place! Having been born and raised in Seattle I have had a lot of great fish n chips but Jacki's (Fairhaven fish n chips) is by far the best I have ever had! I love the salmon and the huge clams. The chowder and coleslaw are also delicious! The owner is a local and very friendly. The indoor space is limited so if you need to get your order to go don't leave and miss out.

Who would believe that the some of the tastiest fish and chips you could ever hope to eat anywhere would be found on an old red double decker bus in the Fairhaven neighborhood of Bellingham. The location is perfect. The bus itself is the kitchen and backdrop, you can't actually eat inside it but there's a lovely patio and garden out front. The food is just simple and amazingly fresh. It's quite possible there are other finds like this all over the area, but for a California family the seafood is perfection. We order Cod, Halibut, Oysters and Coconut shrimp and they were all excellent. If I had to choose, the halibut was the best of the fish, but honestly the cod was absolutely delicious. The fried oysters were excellent, and the coconut shrimp was nicely done. The batter is light and tasty, enough the notice but not heavy in any way and a perfect complement to the fish. I'd drive a ways out of my way to eat here again, it's really that good. The town it's in is worth visiting anyways, it's quant, small town and the people are wonderfully friendly, exact opposite of the hustle and bustle of the LA. If you live around here, this should be a regular stop. If you don't, you're really missing out. Best Plates: Halibut, Cod, Oysters, Coconut Shrimp Food - A+ Ambience - A+ Service - A Value - A+

My favorite place to stop by while in Fairhaven or prior to coaching tennis just around the corner. I love to take friends or family there as well when they come to Bellingham to visit. I always feel like it's the thing to do!!

Jacci's is in the heart of downtown Fairhaven, a charming, historic district of Bellingham. You'll know you've found it when you spot the small collection of picnic tables in front of a double-decker bus! Needless to say, funky and unpretentious don't begin to describe this place. But, if you like fish and chips, this is the place to go! Oh, and one more thing.... the chowder is "to die for"!

I have not yet had the time to go here for the Fish & Chips, so this review is solely for the Soft Serve Ice Cream. They have something like 50 flavors of soft serve. Almost any (normal) flavor you can think of, and you can order 2 different flavors swirled together. I'm pretty boring, so I always tend to get the same things, but I can vouch for the lemon and the blueberry, and I can even vouch for them swirled together. I've taken a bunch of people here, and everyone has about died in ecstasy. My guests have tried amaretto, marshmallow, bubblegum, pistachio, strawberry, mango, and banana. They give you a pretty decent amount, but beware that 2 flavors swirled together is equivalent to a double size, so be prepared to eat a lot of ice cream if you swirl them! I personally think the prices are a little high, but they are comparable to Baskin Robbins, whose prices are also on the high side, IMO. I would give the ice cream 5 stars. I am taking away one star each for their limited hours, and the parking, then adding back one star for ambiance. Their hours are as follows: Sun & Mon = 12-5, Tues - Sat = 11-6. These hours are not extended in the Summer, which I find both odd and frustrating. There is basically no parking, though there is a very small lot a few blocks down. All of that being said, if you're making a day of walking around Fairhaven, it is THE place to go. You can't beat the charm of Fairhaven OR of eating at a double-decker bus. If you're just running in for a cone, don't expect it to be a quick stop, unless you're lucky enough to find street parking. And all of THAT being said, almost every time I've gone, it's been just to grab a cone. The hassle is worth it to me because the soft serve is amazing. You have to go try it for yourself.

    (4)
  • Katie S.

Not as good as we've had in Seattle. The fish was overly battered and greasy. Prices were kind of high for takeout food. It's "outside only" dining on picnic tables which there were only a few of. We got lucky, getting a table. It's a novelty with the doubledecker bus, but we won't go back for the food.

Loved the salmon fish & chips. Loved that they fry it up in pure canola oil (I have a soy alergy, so nice to find a fryer that isn't cutting their "canola oil" with 20% soy oil. My friend enjoyed his sake, by wife the chips. Very nice experience. Tasty, very tasty.

These are the best fish and chips in town. Not the world, but the town. There is no where in Bham where you can get non-greasy, non-soggy, non-nasty fish and chips except at this cute double decker in Fairhaven.

  • Nicki S.

The bus is adorble! But their food is pricey and the wait can be very long, not to mention their inconveinent hours. Almost every time I've tried to go there at random, it has been closed. However, their service is friendly and I do really love their cod. Check it out!

Holy mankind's greatest culinary invention! This place has some of the best soft serve ice cream in the State of Washington. And I have eaten a LOT of soft serve ice cream in the State of Washington. The first time I had Jacci's was on a miraculous day about a year-and-a-half ago when my boyfriend and I took a day trip to Bellingham. I've tried my fair share of saccharine gel 'ribbons' woven through soft serve so I was initially turned off by the extensive list of flavor offerings. I figured I'd just get vanilla. But the woman helping us (Jacci herself?), before I even finished asking, assured me they shun both artificial flavorings and hair ornamentation techniques, so I ordered lemon and my boyfriend chose rum raisin and within 5 minutes Bellingham transformed into Brigadoon. We have tried to go back twice since then. The first time they were closed. The second, I-5 was a flippin' parking lot from Edmonds on; we persevered to Mt. Vernon before crankiness beat out hankering. I won't give up though. Someday soon life will be all rainbows and butterflies and Jacci's soft serve ice cream cones once again.

I've been driving past this place forever wondering what it's all about. Last weekend I tried it. The fish was excellent as was the coconut shrimp and AMAZING orange dipping sauce. The owner's are really sweet people. Had to get some ice cream after reading about it. I took a pic of the list of flavors, so check that out. I had the mango. It was great. I will definitely go back.

If eating great tasty fish and chips served from inside of a re-appropriated double-decker bus is your thing, then you are most definitely in luck. By far one of my favorite places to eat in B'ham/Fairhaven. Haven't been disappointed yet. Since they make all fish to order, be prepared to wait 5-10 minutes depending on how busy they are. Top it all off with a nice order of soft-serve. Definitely recommended

  • Jonathan M.

I have been going here off and on for 10 years and last went on 10-22-11. Something has changed and not for the better. Yes, the other reviews are true - fish is served hot, charming location, etc. However, the quality has slipped and frankly they are just fish and chips. I saw the owner pulling out the pre-made box of fish from Tirdent, whcih explained why it tasted so regular. It is a bummer. I would not drive out of my way for it, but if in town, worth a stop for the charm, if nothing else.

We have eaten here since the place opened up and we can truthfully say that it is far and away the best fish-and-chips place not only in Bellingham but in the Pacific Northwest. Totally awesome!

After being urged by local co-workers to give Jacci's a try I swung by for lunch one afternoon. Unable to decide between the different fish options (cod, halibut, and salmon) I ordered the "Fisherman's Basket" - a piece each of their fish offerings and chips, although you can select one fish and then single or multiple pieces of fish. All fish is cooked to order so anticipate an additional 10 minute wait or longer depending on the number of patrons ahead of you. My Fisherman's Basket came out piping hot and with a generous portion of tartar sauce. I was partial to the salmon, my palate was less enthralled by the halibut and cod - but that's due to my general fish preference and not necessarily an indicator of Jacci's fish quality. All of the fish was tender and not-too-flaky (the pieces didn't fall apart after the first bite). Seating is on the scarce side - there's barstool seating in front of the bus (the stand is actually a converted double-decker bus, did I forget to mention?) a few tables/picnic tables with umbrellas comprise the rest of the outdoor seating, and there's a table or two in the indoor gazebo. You shouldn't have a problem in the summer, though on a rainy day you'll be searching for a dry seat. I'll definitely return to Jacci's on future trips to sate my fried fish cravings. Bonus - cupcakes and window shopping around Fairhaven nearby!

  • Mike W.

If you like Fish & Chips, you'll love this place. There's only one negative so I'll start with that; seating. There are three tables indoors in a little gazebo type place. If they're full, you'll have to eat outside. If it's sunny out, which isn't often, you're set. The positives? Like I said, the food! It's very affordable and very good. I had the salmon & chips, my wife had the cod. They were both excellent. The fish pieces were big and chunky so you could taste the fish and not just the breading. The chips, (fries), were also excellent; they're seasoned fries with a little bit of garlic I think...much better then the standard old french fry. You also get a healthy portion of cole-slaw which was also good; and of course you have the malt vinegar and fresh lemon. To top it off, you feel good knowing you're supporting a local business and the area, downtown Fairhaven (the South end of Bellingham) is a great place to spend a few hours. We loved it and we will be back.

  • Kilo F.

Served SUPER hot, which is awesome on the frequent cold and windy days in Bellingham. They serve several types of fried fish, including cod, halibut and salmon. Additionally, their fries are thick cut and excellent, and the coleslaw that comes with every meal is light and sweet; not a cup of mayonnaise with shredded cabbage. I would recommend getting cod over halibut. It's just as good and costs quite a bit less. A problem with some Bellingham businesses is that they appear to be less pricey than they actually are. You could definitely spend more than you mean to here, but if you just get a three-piece cod and chips, you'll spend about ten bucks. I have no idea how that other guy managed to spend thirty dollars.

While visiting a friend at western, we stopped by a half an hour before closing. I'm so glad we caught it! This was some of the best fish i've ever had! absolutely delicious, the batter was crispy, and not too greasy. I also added coconut shrimp, which was amazing as well. The fries are pretty good, but not the best. they are definitely home made, but maybe just not my style. The tartar seemed extra lemony, but went very well with the fish. The sauce for the coconut shrimp was perfect, sweet and orange-y. The atmosphere is great, the double decker bus is unique! Only downside is that we had to wait quite a while for our order, and parking is a little difficult. The food in this case though, makes up for it bringing it back up to 5 stars. Definitely go here!

gotta love yelp! stopped in bellingham on our way to vancouver just to try out this great little spot. yes, they do make 24 flavors of soft serve ice cream - 15 y/o had carmel espresso cone and it was yummy. the small was huge and about 3 bucks - beats all those trendy expensive yogurt places by a thousand miles. and, i tried the halibut and chips. yes, it's the best fish and chips i've ever had - although i admit i don't frequent fish and chips locales, i love good fish, and this halibut was amazing. the "chips" were good, but not great, but who goes to a fish and chips place for the chips alone, right? will go by again on my way back to seattle. and love the stuffed orca with shades driving the double decker bus which serves as the kitchen for the mostly outside seating awesome spot!

I have been going here for years and can't rave enough about it. Just thinking about their halibut and chips makes me want to take a drive to B'ham. I've raved about this place for years to friends and use it as my barometer for other fish and chip places throughout our travels. Nothing ranks as high. It is just off the charts. My taste buds are salivating just thinking about the sweet and crunchy halibut (dont go cheap with the cod, it has to be halibut) I've taken to add a couple of the shrimp on the side. What a sweet addition! The sauce makes it. Even the chips are awesome. I love dipping them in the tartar sauce. And oh the tartar sauce! They add lemon zest which sets it apart form your run of the mill Ivars. I've even added that secret to my own homemade tartar. Even the cole slaw is amazing. Sweet and not too dry or too tart, just perfect. I have visited Fairhaven Fish and Chips for over 20 years and have NEVER been disappointed

This place does not have the best fish and chips. In my opinion this place is over rated and nothing special. I ordered a three halibut fish and chips and a kids one piece chicken meal with fries and two waters. My total was almost $30. The food was ok and I would not ever go back. One star!!!!

Wow. The fish is so fresh, the batter nice and crispy and the setting delightful. Oh, and their tartar sauce, cole slaw, and fries are delish. What else can I say? Fried perfection.

I have been going to Jacci's since 2003 and I'm a believer ya'll!! If you want a great basket of fish & chips at a fair price this is the place to go. You might think that the double decker bus is just a ploy to get you to drop some coin on some lunch but this place delivers the delicious golden brown goods that aren't overly greasy, just perfect. If this still doesn't sway you, just go and check out the line of people waiting to get some fried goodness on any sunny day. The one downside is the lack of seating but there are plenty of places to sit nearby once you grab your basket of golden goodness. The bottom line is that great food and great service equals a great time. I have eaten here at least 15 times over the years and have never come away disappointed once. Try it, you'll be hooked!

It's Good Friday. I called Fairhaven Fish and Chips about 3:30 PM to find out if they are open. The guy that answered the phone said yes we are open. Seeing all these great reviews, I drive down with the family from Vancouver to check this place out; only to find out they closed at 4:00 PM. You would think the guy on the phone would have told me that, yes we are open but will be close in 30 minutes or something like that. Oh well, I'll give it another try the next time I need gas, and feel like having fish and chips. Ya had to share this funny story with you b/c it didn't happen to you. :-)

Best Alaskan Halibut I've ever had in my life. So far I've been here a few times and I keep getting the same thing. I should probably branch out. The fish is absolute top-notch (I've been all up and down both Right and Left coasts eating fish). The service is friendly and quick. It's not exactly bargain basement prices. I think I get a 2-piece (decent sized pieces but not huge, by any means), with some fries and slaw, with a can of soda for like $12. I'd like to be coming in under $10 considering the amount of food, but the quality truly more than makes up for it. Plus the ambiance is cool. Oh, and they have proabably 25 flavors of soft serve icecream! It's also not cheap, which based on their fish I'm assuming means it's really good.

This is the place to get Fish n Chips in Bellingham / Fairhaven. It's an old double decker bus with adequate seating outside and several tasty fish and chip options to choose from. There's other stuff on the menu if you've lost your mind and wound up at a Fish and Chip shop looking for something else. The ice cream / soft serve is very good as well in all of it's flavors.
