Boundary Bay Brewery & Bistro Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

I usually write some sort of offhanded bullshit about this or that, but I can't think of anything vulgarly creative to say about Boundary Bay. The food is solid and they make my favorite local IPA. I had the halibut tostada the other day and it made me cream in my britches. It's a great place to eat, but I don't think I'd feel comfortable getting pee-my-pants drunk in there; it's just too "hi, how are ya?".

I've been coming here since the late 90's and have NEVER been disappointed with the quality of the beer or the service up at the bar. As others have said, the food and table service is a crap shoot, but if you know that going in and are only there for a few pints and a basket of chips, BB is a sure winner. Nice, relaxed vibe with live music on occasion too. You could do worse than spending a few hours here with an Imperial IPA or 2, or 3. Moving back to WA from CA in a few weeks and that is one of the first things I will be doing. Been away too long!

Worst, surliest wait staff in Bellingham. If you like their beer, you should just go to one of the other 20 places in town that serves it. One crowded evening I was pushed out of the way by a bitchy waitress. I might go to the beer gardens for some live music, but I will never again sit inside Boundry Bay.

I heard the brewery was good when I came in to town so I went in to watch game 7 of the NBA finals. As I expected, it was packed, so it took us a little while to get a table in the bar. We saw another group of about 10 waiting for a table in the restaurant for over an hour. The service wasn't very good. Our waitress was nice, but the girl taking our glasses was pretty unpleasant. The beer was tasty. The best part of the visit though, was the awesome band they had playing outside! It was a party! Though the food was forgettable, the atmosphere was outstanding! I'll definitely go back next time I'm in town.

Now, I'm not a beer person at all - I'll have one cold one if it's really hot out. But Sammi, the coolest chick in the joint, convinced me to try - a stout yet! - Sorry, I don't remember it's name, but it was very very good! My darling and I wound up taking home a bladder of it (that's a container y'all) and we thought the ambience was perfect. Enjoyed the hell out of our food - the nachos are great and gigantic! Sammi there realy knows her stuff and it's clear she loves her job; who doesn't want to be around that? This place made my day.

Anytime I'm in the vicinity of b'ham I have to make a stop at Boundary Bay. Not only is their standard IPA one of my faves but the food is REALLY good for a brew pub. Coming back from Baker this weekend we squeezed in a quick stop to get my fix. I was intrigued by the Yam Alechiladas so I asked our waitress her opin'. With her thumbs up I went with it and was super pleased. Boundary Bay has several veggie options on their menu and, although I'm not vegetarian myself, I usually like the food those people eat. The decor is cool (any place that has sails hanging from the ceiling is good in my book), the service is friendly and prompt and did I mention the outstanding beer?!

Great place! For everyone, provided they are 21+ or it's before 9pm and you aren't in the bar. In the summer on Wednesdays they are known for the live music in their side yard garden where people take their shoes off and get into the music by dancing or hula hooping. It's a great time, and they have their world famous beer being served outside which is appreciated. Inside during other times, the food is good, the environment is local, and beer is good. My favorites are the Scotch Ale and the IPA. Try the sampler if you don't believe me or are adventurous.

Sooo good. After a long day of travel and sightseeing in the northwest, I was REALLY craving a good veggie burger. They didn't have that. But I think they had everything else. I saw a 7 year old girl sitting in front of a giant platter of nachos and I had to have it. The third I managed to eat was delicious. I don't think they really have a dessert menu, but there was a brownie sundae and it was also delicious. Big-serving, hearty pub-type food, with a Northwest bent and as many local and natural ingredients as possible. I like that. There were a few other things I would've liked to try, but those nachos won me over on sight.

Located in an area of town with lots of restaurants and bars, Boundrary Bay stands out for its really good beer, brewed on site, and a good, versatile menu. Good appetizers consisting of delicious soft, warm, locally made pretzels chicken skewers, nachos, good salads, pizzas, burgers, and unique vegetarian choices: yam alechilads, beer bread tofu sandwich, and the old stand by hummus and pita. The wait staff is mostly hip, young, people with fairly good knowledge of beer. Versatile mix of patrons, college students, daters, familys, and senior citizens. A good place to go if your in the area, or passing through.

Fantastic scotch ale. Food was unremarkable. I have seen a couple live shows in their beer garden. It was a great atmosphere in the summer

This place may very well be my favorite place on Earth (sorry Disneyland)!!! The beer (ohhhh, the beer), the food, the atmosphere, the service, the clothes, the pretzels/mustard... everything about this place kicks major ass! Unfortunately, my move from B'ham to California has made it difficult for me to frequent this magical place. Happy to report, however, that I am in WA right now and plan to visit Boundary Bay tomorrow afternoon... er... and evening. Bottom's up!!

One of the better places to drink beer in Bellingham. The food is standard brew pub food. No surprises, but it tastes good and its not over priced. Its in an interesting part of town which can easily be a plus or a negative. The service is usually good and the live music is always nice.

Great beer (Bellingham Blonde is the best), slow service, decent food, horrible bands in the summertime beer garden area. But for some reason I keep going back and it's one of my favorite places. Go figure.

Because of its location (on Railroad by the farmer's market), its great ~$13 meals and (of course) the house-brewed ales, this is a Bellingham must. One of a handful of restaurants in Bellingham that seem to have that whatever-it-is that makes a restaurant not good but great. The menu is eclectic, with fajitas, cheesesteaks, great salads, and some spendier chicken-breast-in-sauce type things. This is not a meat-heavy restaurant. It's a pretty vegetarian friendly place, but if you lean toward the carnivore end of the spectrum, don't pass up Boundary Bay. Usually, the servers can be convinced to double the meat or whatever, if you'll pay extra. The ales are really good but not superior. Service is a little uncomfortable sometimes, but never bad. They have a great garden area with tables and a stage in the summer, and some good musical acts year round in the tap room.

There are so many interesting places in Bellingham that I'd put off going here for years. It turns out that this was a mistake. I'm so, so tired of high priced pub food in beer places, but I should have realized that the people that first told me about BB were vegetarians so it is likely they weren't just faced with burgers and fries. The setting is nice, and old building with 2 distinct areas and a multi level patio facing sunset,.. who could ask for more? The menu had so many things that i had a hard time choosing. We had Yam enchiladas and 2 types of stew/chili. I later discovered the chowder was the signature recipe but all 3 of our choices were good. The service was ok, but what I liked about it is that this brew pub felt a bit less than a money fueled slick business venture and more like a healthy community based soup and sandwich place from Seattle. They have many games nights and a frisbee golf team plus al sort of paper publications about what is going on around town,.. a true community hub! I'm coming back for sure,

I've given Boundary Bay Brewery several opportunities to improve my opinion of the establishment over the years. In 2007, we had a particularly bad experience with service resulting in a letter to management. In their defense, the manager was kind enough to send a $25 gift card as an apology. I've been a few times since, but still haven't had an experience that improves my overall opinion. Generally, the food is average, the service is polite, but bad, and their beer has been passed up in recent years by the local competition. In the hope of improving my opinion of BBB, my wife and I returned this afternoon for lunch. I'm sorry to report that nothing we experienced today changes my opinion. The food was just okay. We both ordered the french dip. I will admit that the bread was toasted perfectly. It retained a crunch after dipping it in the au jus; however, that's where the quality stopped. The au jus itself was fine, but nothing special. Same with the meat. The potato wedges that we ordered as a side were rubbery and tasteless. I broke a few apart and dipped them in the au jus to see if that would add flavor, but it wasn't enough. At no point during our meal were we asked how everything was or if we needed anything else. If it had been busy, I might be more understanding, but there really weren't many people dining at BBB today. The above experienced resulted in a $32 bill. Too bad, Cosmos, our first choice was closed.

Only tried the beer but the food at other tables looked delish! VERY busy on a Saturday after the farmers market. We managed to find a table in the bar area & got a sampler. Service was OK for how busy it was. The sampler was pretty good - no stand outs but they were out of 2 of their most popular beers (including the oatmeal stout) that we were dying to try! Loved the scotch. Great décor - keeps you entertained wherever you look.

During a recent trip to Bellingham, my boyfriend & I decided to try Boundary Bay because it was Yelp's most rated restaurant in the city and received 4/5 stars. We shared the lamb burger (+ cheddar & bacon), a side of roasted potatoes and an amber ale. Our server brought us the wrong beer (it was extremely dark in color and tasted of an IPA), but we didn't want to mention it. As for the burger, the meat was overcooked, the bun was so dry that it was crumbling to pieces and the "house aioli" was simply just mayonnaise. I would have much rather enjoyed a $6 Mc'Ds Big Mac meal compared to this $15 burger. Move along everybody, there's (really) nothing here to see at Boundary Bay.

Everytime we come to bellingham we make sure to stop by boundary bay. The beer and food never dissapoint!! They have a neat outdoor seating area and live music. If you stop by try the soft pretzel... it's amazing!!

Large restaurant with lots of seating (including outside patio) and saw many families with young kids having dinner. Sat in the large room where the bar was, which was buzzing with lots of people having a great time. There was a small tv above the bar which had the basketball game playing but the tv didn't seem like the focal point of why people are there. The service was very friendly and we ordered a beer sampler and Ralf's pretzel to share, since we intended on brewery hopping that evening. The pretzel was average of not a bit too salty, and hubby loved the spicy mustard that accompanied it. My favorite beers were the IPA and the blonde ale. Plenty of street and lot parking and conveniently located within two other breweries and one distillery.

We are visiting b-ham and staying with local friends. They raved about the Boundary Bay. After a morning of hiking at mt baker, we were ready for yum food. But, it was meh. In the NW, I'm craving my salmon fix and was excited to see the salmon sandwich. Be warned. It is not a salmon fillet on yum bread. It is smoked salmon dip on ciabatta. With no flavor. And the butternut squash spread was just weird. Sorry. I so wanted to like it. But just couldn't. My local friends wee disappointed too. The server was really nice even though he didn't ask why I left 90% of my sandwich on my plate. Stick with fish tacos. My other friend had no complaints. Other: great outdoor seating. Very intense house made root beer.

Not sure how some places in Bellingham can call themselves a brewery. They're quality is something of what I used to drink in friends garages sophmore year in college. Obviously the same hipsters that decided they were going to reinvent PBR and try to make people believe it's some sort of Premium Beer. Their Scotch Ale was good. about 12 years ago, since then it's just more bad beer after bad beer. Food, meh...

We stopped here on the way from Seattle to a skiing trip at Whistler, BC. It was tough coming to a consensus on what to eat because we had so many diverging opinions and preferences in our group, but Boundary Bay Brewery seemed like a good compromise. I ordered the grilled local salmon, rare. It came rare in some areas, medium in others, but the flavor of the fish was delicious and rich. Sides were mashed potatoes and a few sprigs of broccolini which were perfectly cooked and provided variety and color on my plate. A nice IPA to wash it all down was hoppy, a little sweet, and alcoholic. On my way out, I grabbed a 22 oz of their Imperial IPA, a 10.5% ABV, rarely in stock in their refrigerator. This was a more "graduated" version of the regular IPA, and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Great beer and wonderful food. I've been here on numerous occasions and have always enjoyed myself. The chowder is great, and I really enjoy the pizzas. The outside seating is awesome on a nice day. The bar can get a bit loud, but otherwise a nice place to eat and drink.

  • Michael L.

They have been here for 20 years and have a great beer selection often with 10 beers on tap. The staff were very helpful and we managed to get a brewery tour. Well worth the trip and we will be returning the next time we are down this way.

After several more visits it's time to downgrade my review and move on from Boundary Bay once and for all. From the aloof staff to the poor service to the mediocre burned dry food there are better options in B'ham without the hit or miss wait times to be seated. The beer is good however, they need to learn how to run a kitchen and prepare quality edible food on a consistent basis.

Always a "go to" place. Never bad, I love the pulled pork Nachos. Oh man, not many are better than here. Also on the good deal front is the soup and salad combo for 10 bucks. You get to chose from the specialty salads and then go with the Salmon Chowder. That is one of the best things I have tasted. Seriously it is flavorful, not super heavy and just right with a house Bellingham Blonde (beer that is). Also just the grilled Salmon is super also. Plus, what a great band playing outside in the beer garden. Excellent evening. I'll be back.

Boundary Bay is another one of those Bellingham food/beer institutions that just seems to have always been around, so much so that I often forget to go here. But when I do, I don't regret it. The ambiance is great, sort of "historical industrial" with lots of seating both in the bar and in the restaurant area (where kids are welcome). In the summer they have a huge outdoor deck, and if you really want to have some fun check out their ginormous beer garden which features the venerable Friday Fish Fry, the Thursday BBQ, and other fun events during the warmer months. It's "the place to be seen" during the Ski-to-Sea festival, where the annual kick-off is hosted and you can get up close and personal with local celebrities (such as the Firefighters' Pipes & Drum Band - c'mon, who doesn't love firemen in kilts?). There's often live music out there, too, and they even have a little play area for the kids to enjoy while you're listening to the music. Food-wise, I've never had a bad meal at Boundary Bay. Their Yam Alechiladas are ahhhhhmazing, as is their chili and their French Dip. They also have a deliciously fresh salmon sandwich, good salads, and pretty much something for everyone (including the always popular vegan, vegetarian, and GF options). Just beware, this place can get busy, so expect a line to get in if you go on the weekends. Lunch is a great option, too - stop at the Farmer's Market across the street then come over to BB for a brew and a burger. For a full schedule of all of their great events, you can check out their website. There seems to always be something going on at this place!

Loved getting the boat of beer, letting us try six different beers. I really liked the ESB and the amber, but there wasn't a bad one in the bunch! I got the yam enchiladas and probably could have had two plates of them, so good! Pretty cool family-friendly vibe in the restaurant and the bar area/tap room seemed about the same. Definitely seemed more like a restaurant than a brewery, but it was still cool. I'd go back if there weren't a handful of other breweries I'd like to make my way to in the area.

  • Kellie C.

This place was average at best. The flow of the restaurant is choppy. It felt as though there wasn't enough staff to wait on tables maybe because the restaurant didn't have a flow to it. When you walk in to the left is the bar area which has ample but very cluttered seating. Straight ahead is the restaurant area which was like a alley and to the right is the outdoor seating. But every area is individual it doesn't feel like it is part of the same restaurant. The food was ok. The service was slow. I think if you are a regular here you probably get better service. I'm glad I went but I won't go back again

Service was attentive. Cleanliness questionable. lipstick marks on water glass -eeewww. lamb burger cooked perfectly. chips and salsa at 5 bucks was ripoff- warmed tostitota from bag and bottle salsa. Great oatmeal stout.

Plenty of very drinkable beers, though as usual, many of them rather high in alcohol. We didn't have a full meal but the clams that we shared were very tasty. Also the pretzel would have passed muster in Munich; we approve of it whole-heartedly. Funky décor, mostly boat-themed. Definitely a place worth visiting. (Good to know: plenty of parking in the area.)

This had some pretty good reviews so a group of us decided to go- they did it disappoint! I had the salmon chowder, tapenade, and fish tacos- all very good. From the recommendations, I decided to try the Scotch ale and Blonde and they were very good.

The food was so great! We had a large party and we all had different things. Everything was just delicious. Best steamer clams I've ever had! Love the harvest salad, too! My husband asked for spicy Mac and cheese, they added jalapeños; not spicy enough for his taste, but very nice effort.

Just had dinner at this brewery and chose this place cause of all the yelp reviews. The beers are $4.5 and tasty. I had the scotch ale (like a smooth Guinness) and it was delicious. I ordered the meatloaf sandwich with salad and didn't think it was so great (they need to change the white bread, that's stuff you do at home not at a brewery). But my friends ordered the meatloaf dinner entree and that was much better and wrapped in bacon as well. It's a great place to grab a beer and some grub. The portions aren't huge and the food is decent. Unfortunately the service was super slow and they are a bit disorganized. They have lots of live music in the evenings and there is lots of seating inside or out. Downtown Bellingham can get quite quiet in the evenings and it seems like all the customers are heading to this joint.

Boundary Bay is such an institution in Bellingham, and it's always a fun experience and good food. Many memories here! Their menu starts to get boring after a while because they never change it but what's there is good. I've also come to prefer beers of other local breweries since more have popped up in Bham. I feel like sometimes their beers are like the equivalent of lifted trucks...big and intense just for the sake of being big and intense. That's just me being nitpicky though! Love me some Boundary Bay :-)

  • Mike T.

Great Brewery with Fantastic food in the heart of Bellingham Washington. On my visit I had the Bangers and Mash with a Scottish Ale.. Both the Food and the Brew were delicious! I also had a chance to sample the Mac and Cheese from a family member who said "it's the best ever". Now I'm not a Mac and Cheese expert but I have to tell you that one bite of Mac and Cheese was the best I have ever tasted..If I ever return I will be having some more of that for sure Overall A great place to have a great meal, and an amazing Brew while in Bellingham.

  • Kenneth N.

Couldn't wipe off my grin from the mac n cheese from last week, so ordered this again and delicious as ever. But the Imperial Nachos? It's good but I've had better...you'll get your money's worth. Cheese wasn't evenly spread out, only on the outside and the sides, mind you, tons of it... And the guacomole and sour cream weren't fluffy enough to dip into. good salsa sauce though

    (4)
  • Marissa G.

If it weren't the IPA being 8.0% alcohol and distracting me I would have actually noticed how awful the food and the service was. Waited way too long, in my opinion, to have our drink and food order taken. I suspect that the salsa was actually spaghetti sauce. The waiter not once asked us how our food was until I walked up to him. We had to get our own condiments- when we asked for them our server never came back and worse still never acknowledged that we did this. Staff was nowhere to be found or on their phones. Service is bad. Food is bad. Beer is alcoholic and nothing special. Don't waste your time and money at Boundary.

    (1)
  • Ben S.

Good beer, good food, it's just always too busy. Wish they didn't have the picnic table thing going for their outside seating (table/chairs would be much preferable), but it's great they actually have outside seating. This has been THE place in Bellingham for years and is worth the stop.

This place is the best! We've eaten here most Friday nights for 3 years and we have been given friendly, personable and prompt service. The food is fresh and delicious with a variety of menu options. We love the wine, cider, and beer choices and often choose the IPA. Waiters and waitresses know us by name now and if anything is ever faulty with our order (which is rare), they will comp us a drink. BB is like our own personal 'Cheers'!

I came here after doing the Chuckanut drive. We had originally wanted to eat somewhere in the downtown area but Sea to Ski was going on and it was hard for us to find a place to park and places were busy so we opted to drive a bit further and find something that wasn't going to be too busy. Pulled up my Yelp app and it found me Boundary Bay Brewery & Bistro. I saw the word "brewery" and was sold. Got to Boundary Bay and there was a 25 minute wait for a table unless we found an open spot in the bar. Luckily we found a table in the corner that was being wiped off. We were seated and was greeted by our server. I ordered the Oatmeal Stout while my lunch dates ordered the sampler which came with 6 beers. I skimmed the menu and nothing really stood out. I don't know if it's because I wasn't in the mood for anything on their menu or if it just wasn't interesting to me. I had to pick something so I ended up ordering the BLTA with a side salad. My lunch dates ordered the fish tacos and the meatloaf sandwich. My BLTA was your typical BLTA. Nothing to really write about. It served it's purpose I guess. Everyone else enjoyed their meals, but I was told that there could have been more fish on the tacos. They have a few veggie options which is nice. I'd probably come back for the beer but it wouldn't be my first pick for dining if i'm in the Bellingham area.

As out-of-towners on Christmas Eve, we where looking for a meal and a beer. Not much was open, but boundary bay had an all you can eat pasta fest. Sold. Every single person we spoke to was happy and sweet to us on Christmas Eve. There was Caesar salad, garlic bread, and about 9 different pastas! My favorite was the Mac and cheese and spaghetti. They really made us feel like locals in a local bar. I should mention that the beer was fantastic! I had the blonde and the scotch, and our waitress brought us out samples to try too. Thanks guys!

LOVE THIS PLACE.!! They have the best burgers the sweet potatoe fries are amazing.!!! The service is great.!!!!!

  • Genevieve F.

The Scotch ale was surprisingly smooth. The Trappist-style dubbel had a terrible aftertaste as though someone added ethanol to the beer. The vegetarian options at Boundary Bay Brewery and Bistro are incredibly limited. Besides a salad, the yam ale-chiladas are practically the only vegetarian item on the menu, but they are very good. Yam puree-filled corn tortillas with mole sauce, red salsa, sour cream, black beans, spanish rice and green onions. Awesome.

If you're looking for a good beer and great food- Boundary Bay Brewery is definitely at the top of the list. I'm a long time customer...8 years?...and I never tire of a Scotch Ale with a bowl of mac & cheese. Meatloaf and salads are awesome too. If you're a first timer order a flight...the beer is truly fabulous! As for service...it really is hit and miss. Don't let this discourage you! There are a few servers that have been working at BB for years and they really are attentive. BB has wonderful summer events too! Overall I think BB is still a great Bellingham staple!

This place was so fun! We stayed for a dinner, and a beer sampler boat. We all shared our food around so I can say that the meatloaf, mac + cheese and clams are delicious! Fun atmosphere, I really liked the 21+ area, but I think it's cool how family friendly the other section is! Great beer and food, we scored a great spot by the roll up doors to enjoy the weather and people watch.

My final evening in Bellingham, I visited Boundary Bay for an Ale tasting and dinner. Another weeknight and like Kulshan Brewing Co. the night before, Boundary Bay was also packed with folks. I got a table in the back and ordered their Ale/Beer sampler - six Ales total: Blonde Ale, ESB, Amber Ale, Scotch Ale, IPA, and Oatmeal Stout. The Ales are placed by your server on a plastic laminated placemat with spots for each Ale - with details about each Ale. Each spot for the Ales are even color coded to be very close to the color of that particular brew! Good attention to detail! I am usually not a fan of Blonde Ales, Amber Ales, Scotch Ales - but I found all of Boundary Bay's Ales to be excellent! I was especially impressed with their IPA - very full body, with an excellent resume of hoppiness, pine notes, bitterness - very bold and delicious! I also enjoyed the Oatmeal Stout! Way better than Guinness! For dinner I enjoyed the meatloaf, wrapped in bacon, served with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The meal was very homey, yummy, and stick-to-your-ribs. The only thing I will ding them on was the asparagus needed to be trimmed a little shorter - as it was a bit to stringy and fibrous at the one end. Service was good - Dillon was my server. After paying my bill, I decided I wanted a pint of their IPA, so I snagged a spot right at the end of the bar and ordered a pint. They have this interesting contraption on the bar - where once a week they stuff the chamber with fresh hops and filter the IPA through it before serving. I initially thought the pint of IPA I was drinking had gone through that - but was informed by the bartender it had not. She offered me a small glass to taste it. But at this point, my tastebuds were so far gone from the IPA I was currently drinking that I could not discern my difference. I am told the contraption is called a "Randall." In any case, it's a fun, cool idea! I love Boundary Bay and will return every time I visit the area!

The BLT sandwich is a shadow of its former self. Meager in every dimension, almost lost on the plate, served with a few small wedges of roasted reds. Enjoyed the IPA though.

Boundary Bay is a Bellingham Staple. You can't say you live in Bellingham or have really experience Bellingham until you have gone to Boundary Bay at least once. The beer is good, each one is noticeably different, full bodied, and has a great flavor. There is better beer in Bellingham now, but Boundary Bay has it's own unique flavor that will always make it a local favorite. Their food is fantastic as well. They have great gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan options. Their Vegan BLAT is to die for, and all their homemade dressings are fantastic. The Yam Enchiladas are unique and flavorful. I have never had a pizza there I didn't like, and all their burgers and sandwiches are are things you will crave. Overall, this place has a great atmosphere, amazing food, and good beer to top it off. This is a "must see" when traveling through Bellingham.

A new favorite place. Decent service. The menu has a lot of sandwiches but they will mod just about everything for you. The beer flight is totally worth it and comes with the seasonals so don't be fooled! Good beer, bring your friends, sit outside if you don't mind a breeze.

We love this place. Whenever we're in Bellingham this is where we go. The beer is awesome and so is the food! Having the fish tacos very yummy!

I love Boundary Bay Brewing - it's our go to place to grab lunch on any quick shopping trip to Bellingham. The beers are all delicious and very reasonably priced (oh America, if only BC would take a page from you on liquor pricing), the food is always decent and if you order a side salad it will always be GIGANTIC! I've enjoyed a number of menu items but I think my favourites are the yam alecheladas and the Rueben. I would love to rave about the yummy looking desserts on their menu, but I'm always so full after a couple of beers and an entree that I've NEVER been able to squeeze in a treat at the end. One day I'm having beer and an ice cream sandwich (because being adult is awesome). It does get quite busy here on weekends and their patio area is lovely, but you can almost always grab a seat in the lounge without having to wait, so don't let a line-up deter you.

What a great find! We stopped in Bellingham for a dinner break and were glad to have stumbled upon Boundary Bay. The menu is slightly fancified brewpub fare. I enjoyed a small house salad (chock full of fresh veggies) alongside the mac n' cheese, a huge portion (enough leftovers for two more meals) that had a nice breadcrumb crust. It may not take home any awards, but it was satisfying. The hubs had a bbq pork sandwich that he thought was mighty tasty. He washed it down with their scotch ale, which I sampled and found refreshingly smooth. The restaurant has a laid-back vibe with a wide cross-section of customers from a gaggle of college students to a group of octogenarians. We saw folks drinking beer, playing chess, catching up with friends, listening to live jazz, going on a first date, holding court with a baby. You name it, everyone seemed to be having a good, relaxed time. The only caution? It's loud. Like, your-voice-is-raspy-when-you-leave level of loud.

One of my favorite casual restaurants in downtown Bellingham. Boundary Bay Brewery and Bistro deserves 5 stars. The food is better than average bar pub food. My favorites: Nachos - loaded with cheese, jalapenos, salsa and refried beans on a mountain of chips. Tapenade - olives, capers & sun-dried tomatoes served with focaccia bread and sprouts. Smoked Salmon Chowder - loads of house-smoked salmon, potatoes, carrots, celery & onion served with fresh baked bread. Mac n Cheese - cheesey goodness perfectly baked Service was outstanding. We had 3 kids with us and our server, Katie was friendly and patient. We wanted to have a beer tour after our meal and even though they don't usually have a beer master on the weekends, she was able to hook us up with Brian. Staff here are amazing and we truly felt at home.

Great place with good beers and prices. Like the stouts and ales. salads are quite good. Especially the Harvest with blue cheese, apple and nuts. Very busy on the weekend so had to wait a bit for a table. There is two areas, a seat yourself area by the bar and another area with longer wait.

The service here is sub par! We were not addressed when we approached the empty bar and waited for a few minutes. Then after we got change to park it took forever for a server to come over to take our DRINK order, then waited on our drinks.... Then waited even loner to order food.... So if you have tons of time to wait, this place might be good for you but don't come thirsty!

I went here for lunch. I had the lamb burger and a beer. The burger was not bad but it was not great either. The potatoes that I had with it were over cooked to the point that half of them were burnt. The beer was good. For the price of the menu items I would expect a higher quality (composed) plate and experience. Overall an ok experience but would not go out of my way to return.

Everyone seems to absolutely love this place but I don't really get the hype. I will say the beer is pretty good, if you're just lookin for some brews then this could be a good spot. Been here a few times. I like the eclectic menu but most of the food just doesn't impress me, nothing terrible, but nothing remarkable either. The only exclusion I'll make is the nachos. The imperial nachos with everything were pretty epic, huge portions of everything you love about nachos. Their biggest mistake though came on our last trip here. My fiance ordered a filet in a Gorgonzola sauce that was a newer addition to the menu. Sounded delicious and the waitress really talked it up. She ordered it medium rare as always. When it arrived it had been sliced into 3 or 4 pieces and was approaching well done. WHO SLICES A FILET BEFORE SERVING IT? Someone in the kitchen had to slice this open, see that it was way over cooked, and serve it up anyway. Steak should be one of the simplest things to really nail, use lots of heat, don't overcook it, and never cut it open. Boundary Bay needs to take steak 101 again. Sorry. But if its beer and nachos you're looking for, hit up their taproom. just don't plan on an impressive dinner.

We went here for our anniversary and did not regret it one bit! They craft their own root beer. The creme brulee is delish too.

I frequented this place many times during my summer stay in Bellingham, and every time I left feeling overly satisfied with no complaints. Boundary Bay has a fun, laid-back atmosphere, which is perfect to get together with friends or go out for dinner. It's rare to find a brewery that serves delicious food, but the food here is amazing. I highly recommend the burgers, the B. L. A. T. and the Tofu sandwich are my favs, so much so I could hardly bring myself to try anything else. However, I did want to try some of the dinner items but they are priced significantly higher than the sandwiches and other dishes- minor drawback. The beer is great, try the Blonde if you're looking for a light well balanced ale. Also the service is also always on point. To me, Boundary Bay is a downtown Bellingham icon that you should be sure not to miss.

Boundary Bay Brewery has a robust menu and the beer selection is great with most of the offerings brewed right in the building. I had the fish tacos for lunch which were very tasty and you could tell that they were put together right there for lunch. Kristin had the Reuben sandwich which gives a lot of latitude for getting things wrong, and they did not. The sandwich was well done with the perfect amount of sauerkraut and a very smooth dressing with generous portions of corned beef. Conor had the Mac and cheese and we all thought it was very good indeed. If ever in Bellingham, I heartily recommend Boundary Bay Brewery.

This is an interesting place. If you are a beer fan you will enjoy it even more. I started with the beef stew. The stew had great flavor. This was the best part of my meal. I ordered the meat load as my entree. It looked great when it arrived. It was, however, luke warm at best. It was also dry. A little more of the sauce would have helped with the dry part. The mashed potatos were also too dry. My guess is my plate was done first and sat waiting for the other entrees at the table.

One of my best friends has been threatening my life for years, telling me he will end it if I ever go to Bellingham and DON'T go to Boundary Bay. Finally, after all these years, I made it. I'm alive. Don't worry, he's too small to do any damage to me. Really cool place. I wish I could have experienced the beer garden, which looked huge and really badass. Alas, we sat in the taproom. It's a somewhat loud atmosphere and we had good, fast service. What did I have to drink? Well, I wasn't in a huge drinking mood unfortunately because all of the beers offered sounded good. I had the Scotch Ale, served in a fancy little glass. Full of rich, sweet, scotchy flavor with a strong smack to the mouth of hops. What did I have to eat? I had a cup of clam chowder which made me exclaim, "HOT DAMN THEMS SOME GOOD CLAMS!" much to the dismay of the people sitting next to us and the embarrassment of my fiancee. Then I got really excited about seeing a B.L.A.T. on the menu. For those of you poor, underprivileged souls who have never encountered such a food - Bacon Lettuce Avocado Tomato. It was straight up amazing. I almost had a When Harry Met Sally restaurant moment. I want to convince the baby factory I permanently room with to move to Bellingham. I'd be a regular at Boundary Bay. I might dabble in alcoholism. Who knows. Maybe it's for the best that we stay in the Twin Cities. If you're from south of Bellingham, BTW, and you make the trek up there... do yourself a real favor and take Chuckanut Drive up from Burlington.

For all the hullabaloo that we read about this place on Yelp, we felt that Boundary Bay was just okay. Not bad exactly, but definitely not warranting 4 or 5 stars. The service was friendly, but rather absent-minded. The root beer was flat, no carbonation at all, but the flavor was good. The mushroom gorgonzola soup was delicious. The baked brie was VERY undercooked (which rendered it pretty much inedible) but the fruit that came with it was fresh and tasty. The pan fried oysters were pretty good. I liked the batter quite a bit, as it wasn't greasy, but some of the oysters were a "spawny" which gives them a texture and taste that isn't to my liking. The cole-slaw that came with the oysters was fresh and crunchy, but utterly flavorless. Too bad we aren't beer drinkers, I think that was probably the ONE thing about this place that they obviously do well. For such mediocre fare, the prices were typically HIGH - as most brew pubs are. Next visit to Bellingham, we'll likely try another food joint that actually focuses on FOOD. I'm sure Boundary Bay is more fun on a warm sunny day, when they can open up the doors/windows and the beer garden below.

This is a fun lil brewery in downtown Bellingham. There is a bike rack right outside and metered parking. There are a bunch of cool shirts with the brewery logo (I purchased one in burgundy). The brews are tasty and the food is delish. I ordered the Aleenchilada, which instead of cheese or meat inside it has yams. If you are thinking what I was thinking you are donning a quizzical face right now, but trust me it's very good. The sweetness of the yam is complimented perfectly by the corn tortilla. It comes with beans and rice and is a good portion. Not enough to take home, but plenty to make your belly a happy camper.

On first glance, this seems like a pretty standard brew pub. It reminded me a lot of the Fish Tale Brewpub in Olympia, or Pike Place Brewery -- y'know, the kind of sea-faring feeling bar with lots of wooden tables and echoey talking people and standard food and its own beer. As soon as we ordered, I found that this wasn't the case it all. Appearances can be deceiving. I ordered the seasonal tripel, which was delicious and sweet and deceivingly drinkable (y'know, everything a tripel should be). Then, a friend and I decided to split the macaroni and cheese and yam alechiladas for dinner -- which was pretty much the best decision ever. First of all, the yam alechiladas were freaking amazing. They split them onto two different plates for us (+1 to service), and they were just...perfect. I need to figure out how to make them myself, because I'm pretty sure I am going to be craving them periodically for the rest of time, and I live nowhere near Bellingham. Spicy flavorful mole mixed with amazingly perfect mashed yams wrapped up in a lovely little tortilla package. Then, there was the macaroni and cheese. Which was just a pile of amazingly rich cream and melted cheese of various kinds. The worst kind of mac and cheese skimps on the cheese and the sinfulness, and this one did NOT have that problem. Excellent excellent awesome. Next time I come to Bellingham, I don't think I'll be able to resist coming back here.

Been here a couple of times in the last year and sadly I have not been too impressed with the food. I was hoping for something original enough to keep me coming back, but what I had each time was a small variation of the standard bar menu. The slider selection was decent, but since they all come with the same bread they tasted the same. Other than the generous selection of beers available, the inclusion of some more local flavor is missing.

I probably didn't give Boundary Bay Brewery the full opportunity it deserved. We showed up and scored a table after a 10 minute wait. I ordered a scottish ale and my lady had their Irish Red. Both were fine beers. Nothing amazing, but fine beers. We snagged two baskets of happy hour wings which cost $3.50 each. This place was happening on a Saturday night. It was packed with college kids, rich old hippies, and one black person. I felt like I was back in Eugene. I guess much of Bellingham feels like Eugene, Oregon. It's not the most diverse community ever, but people are nice and the mood is laid back. You should probably check out BBBB (a little excessive in the alliteration department) if you are in town and looking to drink a beer and burn a couple hours.

Very cool place. To be honest, I was half blitzed when I visited, but I took two important things away from my visit: The fish tacos are unique, and the beers are fantastic. I'm from Arizona so I'm used to have my fish tacos baja style, with lots of creamy sauce. It's probably horrible for me, which is why it was refreshing to get Boundary Bay's fish tacos. They were fresh and delicious without the normal sauce I would have. There was some other combo of spices and marinade that I couldn't identify but it was very good. The beer is awesome--do yourself a favor and get some growlers to go!

Ugh. In a nutshell: The servers are rude, the kitchen is frightening, the food (not to mention the beer) is just okay. Pros? Awesome T-shirt slogan.

Awesome beer, especially the Imperial IPA. The food was good, too. Pretzels (both regular and cheese), beef stew, fish tacos. The wait was worth it and I can't wait to go back.

As a local I have been here many times as well as got take out. This place COULD be good, but tends to be a bit inconsistent. Half the time a to-go order ends up being incorrect. At its best the food is alright. Often it is super busy so there can be a bit of a wait most if the time. But really the worst part is the service, they all seem incredibly entitled. It's as if they are doing you a favor by serving you... And if they are friendly they tend to be "forgetful". I don't generally go here unless I happen to be part of a group who is into it (not at all often) I don't drink, if you do I would suggest to try the beer here and plan to eat elsewhere.

Here again is another great brewery that is a place to get away with the family. Though they do have a bar area you can go into that is less family atmosphere. I highly recommend the Smoked Salmon Chowder. I'm hesitant when trying some salmon dishes as I'm afraid that they'll be too fishy but OMG this is the best Chowder I think I've ever had. The menu itself makes it hard to decide on what to get as well. Great place to go with a group of people and have a good conversation.

Beers are good. Food is decent. Honestly, this place could be a lot better being that it is so popular in Bellingham. There are better places to get a beer and food in Bellingham but the ambience of being at Boundary Bay is pretty cool. The t-shirts and sweatshirts are definitely a show stopper no matter where you are.

This place is awesome. Flat out awesome. I already am a huge fan of their beer, particularly the Scotch Ale. I had wanted to visit the brewery and bistro for a while, but living in Vancouver, it is a long drive. This past Sunday I happened to be in the area, and dropped in just in time for Happy Hour. I had the happy hour sized Mac and Cheese ($2) which was excellent. Nice and cheesy, the toasted breadcrumb topping added great flavor and texture. I also had the meatball. I found it to be a touch on the dry side, but for $1.50 it was well worth the money. It came with a nice marinara sauce, which compensated well for the dryness. I also had 5 hot wings ($3.50) which were simple but excellent. Total with tax and tip, and two pints of their amazing scotch ale, was $17. A bargain. The place is super casual, and extremely busy. I like the decor, I found the place to be relaxing even with it being full of happy customers. I intent to go back every time I am in the area.

Excellent brews. Our waiter and the decor/ambience were pleasant. The bistro area is a large open room with very high ceiling, and it can sometimes be hard to hear the waiter or other people sitting at your table, but really wasn't too bad. Had to wait about 30 min for a table in the bistro b/c the bar area was packed to the gills, but it was expected on a Saturday night. Beer: the Scotch was smoky and smooth, Amber was a little bit hoppier than is usual for an amber (which is fine for me), and the Dry Irish Stout was a nice finish. Recommend all of them. Looking forward to coming back and trying the other brews.

I love Boundary Bay's beer, especially their IPA and Cabin Fever, their strong winter ale. The food was decent--I enjoyed the Beer-B-Q pulled pork sandwich, but the BBQ sauce seemed kind of watery and yet the pork was somehow dry. The roasted potatoes that come with their sandwiches are very yummy. My friends seemed to enjoy their meals too--but none of us were particularly impressed. My main complaint with Boundary Bay is that I just don't like the atmosphere. The tap room was really loud and the dining room was packed to the rafters with parents and their kids. We had driven quite a way from Seattle to visit and it just wasn't what we had hoped for from a brewery with such great beer.

Value: Outstanding Service: Fast and friendly Beverage of Choice: A tall glass of fresh tasty beer will never disappoint you here. Appetizer of Choice: Fried oysters or the hummus. Meal of Choice: Grilled lamb burger on a pretzel bun with salad. The house dressing is really good. Overall Impression: It has a relaxed atmosphere and although the food isn't over the top it is pretty dang tasty for pub food. All I know is I will keep coming back. Did I mention the beer is excellent?

Best micro-brewed beer in Bellingham. Excellent food, great live music and the beer garden is family-friendly. They are right across the street from the Saturday Farmers Market, making it a fabulous place to stop before or after getting my local produce!

Oh Boundary. Such the local standard but you know...I see why. The bar is always bustling with a fun mix of typical nice Bellinghamsters. I like this warmth and spirit when the streets can seem lifeless and cold. You always know there will be folks eating, sipping, and visiting at Boundary. YESses on the menu: Tapenade--SO GOOD! Don't really get into ordering it anywhere else but the way they put the flavors together with the goat cheese, sliced tomatoes and sprouts with the thai vinaigrette, and bread to make your mini sandwich bites...always great. Spicy sweet red pepper chicken soup---add hot sauce and enjoy. Yum. I like the bits of cilantro on top as well. House salad---love that they don't have fries and who would get the chips? The salad is generous and colorful for just being the salad that comes with your sandwich or whatever. Lamb burger--Add blue cheese, hot damn (with the pretty salad on the side it doesn't feel as nasty as going to a burger joint) Yam Alechiladas---mm tasty Nos on the menu: Sadly I think the fish tacos still suck after so many years. I LOVE tacos..but will likely stick to little taco trucks or other places for that fix. Anyone else have any favs or less than favs? The beer is HEAVY so it's tough to do more than one. They were advertising a lighter new one most recently, likely due to demand..but I think they still couldn't resist not making it a truly light beer. ;) That said an Oatmeal stout hits the spot some evenings!

Boundary Bay has a great reputation of long standing among beer nerds; they've been making amazing ales (and a couple lagers that are pretty good too) for years and years. Bellingham actually has a great brewing tradition that dates back to pre-Prohibition, and BBBC has carried the standard forward in the modern craft beer revival. This place has an awesome facility--great big building, plenty of room to brew and cook and still leave massive dining rooms left over, plus a big deck right on the bay. They're across the street from the Saturday market, which is fantastic, so it's easy to put together a whole day's activities even if you're coming in from out of town. You only have to park once. I won't go too crazy on beer ratings, but pretty much all of them are worth trying. The bigger beers are of course more powerful; some, like the scotch, start to get a little raw and out of balance. The imperial oatmeal stout is a style they might have even made up, and it's pretty amazing. They're most famous for their IPA. The food is pretty awesome as pub grub goes, and the prices are right in the pub grub range. That's what pushes this rate into 5 stars--the overall value of the meal. They don't mess up the seafood dishes, which too many beer places do, tbph. Overall, a great place to take anyone you know--friends, family, co-workers. It's comfortable and fits across the board that way.

The beer was good the service was definitely not. Bought a keg for a wedding from this outfit. Had a lot a trouble getting the tap supplied to hold in the keg. We were told to bring the tap back and they would exchange (right during the wedding reception no less). The new tap was no better than the first. The tap was not the problem it was that the very beat up keg that they supplied would not hold a seal. Could not even get half the beer out. Absolutely no consideration when the keg was returned other than an "Oh Well that's they way it goes". I cannot recommend anyone using this establishment to supply the beer for an event. We were very dissatisfied with the service.

Mom, brother and I stopped here for lunch at 11:30 on a Monday. It was seat yourself when we arrived. Plenty of tables available. Sat in bar area, great atmosphere. Business quickly picked up and they became quite busy. Lots of handsome patrons ; ) Walking in, it smelled a bit like a barn, but I really liked that. Very laid backed and relaxed. However that indirectly did lead to one less star. As many other reviews state, service is slow, but very friendly. We were not in a rush, so it was perfect for our relaxed day. Probably not great for those in a rush. We had a Bavarian pretzel as an app - VERY small and not really intended for sharing. Good taste and texture. Mom had a beef burger. Said it was nothing special. However, she really enjoyed the roasted potatoes. I had Pulled Pork with a house salad. The pork was on a Ciabatta roll and had coleslaw on the sandwich - VERY good. The meat was not over-sauced, or fatty. Brother got lamb burger and enjoyed it. We shared the Mac and Cheese, which was creamy and had complex cheese flavor. Brother also got the beer sampler. A safe and enjoyable bet while in the region.

What a totally delightful afternoon. Helping my little sister move into a giant party house meant a great excuse to go to Boundary for lunch. They have nice outdoor seating here (although it would've been cool if you could actually sit down in their little open-air beer garden area - that looked awesome). Lackluster service but consistent and helpful nonetheless. Highlights include the Oatmeal Stout & Amber - just as good as I remember them from 2003! Also, that tapenade was SO much more than just a tapenade. The bread was amazing, fresh goat cheese, in-season tomatoes, oh my! The curry and the lamb burger also did not disappoint. They don't rush you along here and it's a fabulous spot to try some brews and peruse the farmer's market afterward. A solid bet.

Best Food and Beer in B'ham. Emphasis on Beer. Try the Scotch ale, or the oatmeal Stout, or the blonde or, try the sampler and try them all. It is pretty loud during peak hrs, but thats because it's so good. Waitresses are extremely nice and the manager Caseys beard looks OK I guess, You should tell him it's awesome from me. Try it out it's amazing.

Some of the greatest beer brewed in the PNW comes out of this establishment. The sampler is well worth it if you want to taste all of their offerings. The restaurant is also way up to snuff with one of the best reuben sandwiches I've ever eaten. There is a great music scene in the garden down below so keep your eye out for shows that might interest you. Well worth fighting the crowd and paying for cab ride back home or to the hotel. If you are trying to find some local flavor and you haven't been to this place yet, make it in for a a couple of pints and a plate of fine pub food.

This rating is totally based on the yam alecheladas. Oh my sweetness it was like a meal/dessert in 1. Beans, rice, enchiladas with yams. I'd like to ask where that inspiration came from. I had the breadpudding for dessert and it was just the right size dessert. My partners fish (salmon or halibut) was good too. But if I ever encounter this creation again, I'm hoping it will be close to this good. It was amazing- I would have figured this would have been their specialty- but the waitress didn't say much more than, it was good. Understatement of the year. Beer was ok. Atmosphere was a typical college bar. If it wasn't for this meal, I wouldn't go back.

This place has a nice vibe and is a classic spot in Bellingham. Food is typical pub fare and pretty good. All the beers are good but not exceptional. Come for the lively atmosphere and good beer and settle for adequate food.

They aren't pushing too many boundaries with their beer but it's delicious. Food is good too. The nachos have more cheese than chips and the dips (sour cream, guac, homemade salsa) are plentiful and very good. Busy on a Saturday night. LOTS of students.

This place is a must-go in Bellingham, especially in the summer. Their reggae nights are the most fun.. good music, good beer, & people down to have fun? Count me in. When their beer garden is open to the public, it never ceases to draw in a crowd. Try the oatmeal stout beer & their mac-n-cheese, they're so delicious.

I've heard so much about it, and finally got to experience it for myself! After hearing so much about it, I thought it to have a grandiose exterior, flashy, the pride of Bellingham, etc. I was mistaken. I almost walked past it, as it had a very low key exterior. Ok, first step done--finding it. We got in there, and were sat relatively quickly. We didn't want to spend too long in there as they were preparing to close early for their holiday party, so we made sure to order ASAP. I picked the B.L.A.T. and is was very good. The bacon was thick. In addition, the house salad served with it was good, and the ranch was very good as well. I want to call it a custom ranch, bc it didn't look like most ranches I've seen. Not to say it looked bad, just looked like there was some dill and some other tastiness to it. I made a mistake and ordered one beer vs the sampler. It was my first time and I should've gotten the sampler. Oh well. I got the Amber, and it was very tasty. I'm a pale ale and amber kinda guy for the most part, so with the performance of their amber, I'm looking forward to the pale ale, as well as the rest of them. I'm going to get a different beer each time I go until I've had them all (sampler not included)! The party I was with also enjoyed their meals--the Tofu Sandwich and the Salmon Sandwich. The server left me a menu to peruse while dining, and in addition to their beers, I'm also looking forward to trying EVERYTHING on the menu--because everything looked great! If you're in the Hamster Cage (that's Bellingham for those who aren't in the know), you must stop at Boundary Bay Brewery if at all possible! :D

Definitely been enjoying coming to this brewery & bistro for years! There pub food is excellent, and one can enjoy delicious lunchs as well as dinner here. What I really find interesting about this space is that it has just the right mix of downtown attitude mixed with a sense of bohemian style (take a look at the rotating art exhibitions on the walls). LIVE MUSIC VENUE!! One aspect of this place I think we all love is that it offers guests a chance to enjoy a range of musical acts too. BEER!! Want to try their micro brews before buying a pint? They offer a delicious sampler deal that is perfect for this! SALAD!! I have to say this is one of the best places to get a Caesar salad in Bellingham. DRAWBACK - this place amplifies all sound, so get ready to speak up to be heard.

On new years eve my better half and I decided to take a day trip up to Boundary Bay Brewery. The brewery was packed. It took about 30-40 minutes to get a seat in the bar which is "when people get up, snag the table" seating. We did put our names on the list, but when we were offered a table there is one that is just a little too in the way of passing traffic so we opted for the bar. The bar is awesome with sail hanging from the ceiling. The beer is amazing! I LOVED the oatmeal stout. The BLAT sandwich was really quite delicious, not to mention their creamy balsamic dressing. Overall it was a great place to check out and perfect for a day trip.

HOLY BEERMAN/MOUNTAINLADY/HIPPY HEAVEN boundary bay brewery and bistro is a delicious place to get drunk and delighted by some simple, yet interesting food. i went here this summer, and i cannot stop thinking about it this winter! i wish i had the beer sampler right now to get the party going (even though, it's 10AM)! i think my favorite beer was the IPA. plus, they serve each beer on a placemat with information about each one. this is very helpful, because by the end of it, you may forget which beer you loved the most. the beer garden is the perfect spot to finish a second sampler platter. the place is just busting with interseting and cute hippies/mountain weirdos. I AM SO INTO THIS PLACE. i can't wait to go back this summer! my only complaint is that this place isn't in chicago. the food, burgers and reasonable prices are enough for me to break down and move to the pacific northwest!!

If I lived here, I totally see myself coming here as the default brewpub afternoon/night out. Ample parking (not theirs but pay lot across the street that is free in the evenings and very cheap the rest of the time), nice and warm building (temperature-wise, it was 35F out when we were here), nice beers and OK food. Service was adequate. Possibly good if you consider it was lunch (noon on a Thursday, and the place was 40% filled - I don't know what that says about Bellingham, but in many respects it's the town of my 20's dreams!) and only one waitress and the bartender were around to serve. Service could have been a bit warmer; I felt instantly like they knew we were from out of town. Could have been a little more attentive - the only time my dining companion was asked if a second beer was in order was when we were ready for the bill - thankfully I had the beer sampler as I hate an empty glass. Food = OK, much better than many pubs I've been to and a very good selection. I had a lamb burger and kudos for serving flavorful lamb. Other than that, it was pretty forgettable. Dining companion had a BLAT, which was well received but a few hour later required reminding on what had been ordered. Beer = OK. As I mentioned, I had the sampler. 6 staple beers. My dining companion had one of the staples in pint size. Out of those 6, 2 were beers I would seek out again, the rest were just average and although I'd order on my next visit, probably not order elsewhere. Glad they are there, I'll be back the next time I am thru Bellingham, didn't hate anything. Ever considered moving more towards beer hall? You're certainly in the right building and geographic location for one.

Amazing oatmeal stout. Amazing salads, smoked salmon chowder, macaroni & cheese, lamb cheeseburger....everything here is delicious. If you're looking for an iconic Bellingham restaurant, this is it.

I cant overstate how great this place is. Love the low key bar atmosphere and good prices. I went with my brothers and sister-in-law for lunch while Christmas shopping. We all ordered different meals and were very happy. My brothers swear by the Mac and Cheese. I chose the Yam Alechiladas- yam, cheese, garlic, carmelized onion wrapped in corn tortillas and topped with mole poblano sauce? It was completely delicious. Sweet and spicy and warm and filling me with winter-in-Mexico-esq cheer. Did I drink at lunch? Wouldnt miss it! I ordered the Amber which arrived with a great color and round and hoppy flavor. It went great with my AleChiladas. Later, I also tasted the Dry Irish Stout which was dry (good call naming that one) and toasty. Would be great with cheese and crackers. Cheers, BBB! Save the Ales!

If you are looking for a cold tasty beer and good pub fare you will be hard pressed to find a better combination then at Boundry. Service can be a little slow when crowded, but I have never had a bad expierence. I recomend the IPA for thoes of you who are beer drinkers.

Last few times I went here the service was awful. The last time I was here the server came to us after we had paid our tab and said she was off work and was grabbing her tips before she left, then reached over the table and grabbed the money. I found it very rude.

Food was average and service was terrible. My husband loved his Reuben but my gluten-free pizza was just okay. All the servers seemed to be disengaged and I would have guessed that they would rather be somewhere else. Service was also really slow. Nice that they had gluten-free options. I'd probably look for another place that would have tastier food and better service before I'd return here, although it would be fine in a pinch.

Great beer. Great food. I particularly enjoyed the tapenade appetizer, though my mac & cheese was pretty tasty too. I appreciated the wide variety of hot sauces that our slightly annoying server brought me when I asked about hot sauce. So, yes, the server was slightly annoying. Much as I love Boundary Bay's beer, I would consider giving them a simple 3 stars, simply because nothing overwhelmed me about the place...and they allow children in their taphouse. I know that this is a plus for some but I enjoy drinking at boozy establishments (as opposed to in my apartment) largely because they DON'T allow the screaming monsters in to violate my personal space. HOWEVER, on my most recent visit, I ran into Patty Murray which was cool. I know that this really has nothing to do with Boundary Bay but obviously they're cool since Patty hangs out there and it made for a great experience which has in turn made me feel generous with my stars. So go there, eat tapenade, and keep your eyes open for politicians.

Beer - Excellent NW brews. They are on tap at a number of places in WA state so you've probably had some before. The sampler tasting flight is a great way to go here and it's nice that they give you 5 oz tastes of each, not the standard 2 oz tasters. Food - Better than average pub food. We loaded up on clams, both fried and steamed and they were delicious. One major flop - the pizza was terrible, flavorless with a soggy crust. Service - While our waitress was friendly and competent during a busy Saturday night, the rest of the support staff was miserable. This includes the two hosts but focuses on the several staff members who tried to hurry us along as three of us finished our multiple food and beer orders. Value - Not worth the price. Because you can get Boundary Bay's excellent beer elsewhere, grab a growler or bottle and go eat somewhere with better priced food and less annoying service.

After reading all the rave reviews and recommendations from my friends, I was ready to love this place. I did enjoy the ambience, but the beer was not what I expected. I had a cloudy, so-so pilsner, and did not want to order anything else, so we didn't stay to eat. Bummer.

Why is Boundary such a Bellingham institution? 1. The beer is all their own and really, truely fantastic, strong brews. 2. They book a lot of entertainment which draws the entire town in (as if the beer wouldn't.) Recently on a random Thursday evening I watched a belly dancer & a rock/folk band on the outside stage, then 2 stilt walkers in costume & a troupe of Irish dancers when I went in for dinner. This may sound like a circus meant to compensate for the fare, but I actually think it's pretty representative of Bellingham-sters and the idiosyncratic culture they're so proud of. If you want to see Bellingham, this is it. 3. While the food selection is unfortunately a standard bar menu, the food itself makes up for it. I love the yam-beer enchiladas and the beef soup. It's difficult to get less than a well done burger, but the ingredients are all so fresh, organic and local it's hard to be too disappointed.

Great beer at a great price if you like it extra hoppy and strong. Food is hit and miss. You are best to get recommendations on what is best. There are lots of options and I think if they narrowed the menu to some specialties they could do a better job. Most of what I've eaten here is rather forgettable. Service is lack-luster. There is always lots going on which makes for a great ambiance, however the noise level on most nights is not very conducive to conversation. I miss reggae night before it was taken over by club scenesters! Used to be able to hula hoop outside in the garden and now they end it because it gets too crowded with 21 year old overflow from the royal and glow.

I'd like to start off by saying that Boundary Bay has the best root beer ever. I don't ever drink alcohol really, but I've heard great things about their beer. Their root beer is amazing- it is almost black and contains just the right amount of carbonation. It is perfection in root beer form! The food here is great. I enjoy many of their vegetarian dishes. This is a great place to be on St. Patrick's Day. When I went in 2007 with some friends we enjoyed the performance of Irish dancing and an all Irish menu. The vegetarian shepherd's pie was delicious. Sometimes they offer some great music playing in the bar or beer garden. The atmosphere of this place is great. Often local artists' work is featured on the walls. In the summer, the restaurant opens the beer garden where you can sit among the flourishing hop plants and watch films. My favorite seat here is outside on the balcony overlooking the beer garden. When the evenings get cooler you can even request a blanket to warm your legs. (While supplies last!) It is another one of Bellingham's bustling places so beware the crowds. Once inside you can sit among friends and enjoy all Boundary Bay has to offer. Because it is such a busy place, the service isn't always perfect and your glass might be empty for a while or it may take a while to order but bring good company and you won't even take notice! The other great thing about Boundary is that they sell some of their merchandise. They offer everything from kids clothes with the BB logo to pint glasses to their famous Boundary Bay Brewery hoodie coming in an array of colors. Their catchy phrase "SAVE THE ALES" on the back is known far and wide with people recognizing it on the other side of the state (in Vancouver, WA) to across the country (my best friend was seen in her hoodie in Boston and someone knew of BBB).

A pretty unique place. It has three levels to it. There is an indoor dining area, an outdoor dining area on a patio-type thing (which is where we sat), a beer garden, and another patio in-between the dining areas and beer garden. Good place to grab a beer. Pretty unique menu too. It has burgers, curry, fish, mexican food, pizzas, and your usual bar food. I had the lamb burger which was delicious. My friend got the salmon and it was cooked to perfection. Very nice flavors too. Nice and vibrant atmosphere. Staff was very friendly and got seated very quickly during dinner time. They were very sympathetic to other larger parties that had to wait, which I always appreciate in good customer service. Good place to go to get a taste of the area as we are from California and were in town for the Bellingham Highland Games. We asked about 4 different people from places we went to earlier in the day and they all recommended this place. They had a small dessert menu too. the ginger creme brulee looked good but we were too full. Would come back again if in the area.

My Home town. I really, really like this place if I get home early enough. If you you dont get in by 5-6pm its a pretty tough to find a seat unless you're willing to wait it out. The IPA is a addicting, I think they put something in the brew since I seem to crave it. The food is also very surprisingly good and healthy. If you want a great beer selection and a great busy environment with all age group in the mix, this is the place to be in Bellingham. Boo yah.

One of the best brew pubs in all of the Pacific Northwest: First, awesome beer: my favorites are the IPA, ESB, and the Scotch Ale. All hoppy, full of flavor, and fulfilling. Love the variety and seasonal selection as well. The food is also just as good as the beer, love the huge plate of nachos with the beans, salsa, sour cream, and guacamole ( all hand crafted ) - The pizzas are also killer - I usually stick with the marg or pesto. The service is usually consistent but watch out on a really busy night, things get a spotty, also wait times can get out of control on busy nights, stick with trying to find a spot in the bar. Atmosphere is also a big thing BB has going for them, they have a great spot downtown, fun and classy joint, with parking in the market lot makes is a big plus. Highly recommend for Bellingham.

Go for the beer... and stay for the food. I will admit, I'm an unabashed long time fan of Boundary Bay's IPA. I rarely venture away from that particular selection. I've even been accused of being in a decades long rut but... I don't care! Having said that, when I step outside my IPA box I'm rarely disappointed with any of their other well crafted brews. Which brings me to the food. Go for the happy hour some afternoon and check out their appetizer menu for an intro to BBB&B's menu. Check out the tacos, pulled pork sliders or my personal favorite, the mini mac and cheese. You'll get a seriously good food fix at a reasonable price and you'll be hooked. Oh, and try their IPA.

Boundary bay's food is the real attraction here. Came in one night with my mother and we both ordered the salmon chowder and harvest salad. The chowder was good, if a little under seasoned, but that salad. Oh that salad! Fresh greens with red grapes, sliced green apple, Gorgonzola, and blue cheese vinaigrette. It was to die for. I could have eaten 3 plates of that delicious creamy cheesey goodness. Getting on to the beer: I have been here a few times to sample their different beers and frankly, I am not all that impressed. Call me a beer snob, but I found their brews to be average at best. Their IPA did not impress me. The beer had no substance or originality. The amber was altogether too sweet for my taste. However I must say that they did have a scotch ale once I was impressed by, if that is ever on tap you should go for it. The beer is just not up to par with where it should be in my opinion. As far as service goes, again it is average. Waitresses are attentive, but coming for the fact that I am a waitress, they take entirely too long to check on you and avoid eye contact when walking by so as not to be flagged down. The worst of it was when I inquired as to what the IBUs of their IPA were and my waitress simply replied, "that means its bitter". Oh sin of all sins! The staff may need some training on their beer knowledge. As I said the food is amazing here so I will deffinately return to eat, but maybe next time I might just get a coke.

Meh. Service isn't ever very smooth here, and the food is okay. We often have to wait a long time to be acknowledged by our server, but there's a pretty good support staff who do refills and such so somebody eventually gets the job done. Last time we were charged for a bunch of beer we hadn't had because our server was pretty green and didn't close his prior tables when they left or review his checks before presenting them. My boyfriend had to go looking for him to get it fixed. It's hard to know what to order, because it's hard to know what will be good. The margherita pizza is flavorless and unimaginative. The reuben is good, hot, and cheesy, but the bread is always a little soggy. The salmon clam chowder, on the other hand, is excellent and hearty. The only thing I count on them to do well is their Mac and cheese, but come on, it's Mac and cheese. If you get a chance to order a pony keg of oatmeal stout and have a get together at home with your friends, do it. You'll have fun... That stuff is STRONG. As someone who lived in Bellingham for 15+ years, I know of plenty of Bellingham's treasures, in and surrounding, that serve way better food for a similar price. Explore them. If you must eat downtown, honestly, even The Horseshoe's food has more flavor, and the establishment has way more character.

Great little bar! I didn't get food but the beer was rather tasty. They had live music which was quite good, a one-man band with a tambourine on his head - it was very entertaining. I didn't particularly like the space though because it felt like a garage, which has it's positive and negative attributes depending on what you're looking for.

I enjoy checking out local brew pubs on our road trips, and we stopped by for lunch. The brews were pretty good, though the amber was much more hoppy than ambers usually are. The burger and lamb burger were both tasty. We'll definitely keep this one in our virtual roladex!

I really like the food at Boundary Bay. I really like the beer at Boundary Bay. What I really don't like is the fact that doing lunch there (in a normal lunch hour) is not possible. For whatever reason, the service at lunchtime is really terrible. I can hardly get in and out of there in 2 hours, from the time someone first comes to talk to us, to the time that I've paid the bill. I think it's a great place to go during lunch (when it's a little quieter than during the evening). But most of us can't take 2 hours in the middle of the day to wait around to be served.

Boundary Bay is a Bellingham institution. It's the one place absolutely everyone has been before. And it's a place that people can usually agree on when the 'where should we go for dinner' convo comes up. They've got a good variety of tasty food, I especially like the happy hour specials and the soups in the winter. The beer garden in the summertime is nice. The beer is decent. I'm not the biggest fan, but I don't like overly hoppy beers, and that is their 'style'. I know a lot of people love it though. The service is where they really lost the stars. The servers seem genuinely annoyed when it is busy (always). If you didn't want to work in a busy restaurant (with the accompanying tips), then why are you working at Boundary Bay? It. will. be. busy. Expect a 45 minute wait at any prime time. Also, if you're just ordering beer at the bar, consider paying with cash. I was once overcharged, then they 'fixed it' by charging me the right amount IN ADDITION to the overcharge. It came to $40 for 2 beers. So... you will probably go here a lot because it is the Bellingham thing to do. But in my opinion, there's plenty of other places that I could be giving my business to.

My favorite beer pub in Bellingham. The food is unique and delicious. The ingredients are local and fresh. And the beer is out of this world. I recommend trying their yam enchiladas. They are the perfect balance of salt and sweetness. As for the beer, take your pick. I've never been disappointed with any of their beers. If you can't decide, get the beer sampler. Just make sure you have someone there to drive you home afterward. My wife and I recently moved away from Bellingham. When we visit, we make a point of eating (and drinking) at Boundary. For us, it is a Bellingham staple. That being said, Boundary does have its imperfections. The service is very hit-and-miss. Some of the waitresses seem a little spacey. But they're always friendly and their unusual personalities add to the laid back atmosphere of the place. Also, the food is inconsistent. For example, one time I ordered the smoke salmon chowder, and it was absolutely scrumptious. The next time I went there I ordered the chowder again in hopes that I could recapture that experience. I was sadly mistaken. The second time the chowder was bland and watery, not at all chowder-esque. Boundary is certainly not perfect. But it has so much to offer that it is easy to overlook the flaws. Try it. You will not be disappointed.

I had my 21st Birthday dinner here - and I cannot believe that was almost 7 years ago! When I lived in Bellingham during college I would come here quite often for dinner. Good food - Great beer selections! and the service is good too!

A Bellingham icon. They put brew on the map in B'ham. Great setting, great people there, pretty darn good food...what else is there to say? It's Boundary! That said, the minus 1 star is due to the fact that service is hit and miss. But it seems to be getting better.

Every time I've been to Boundary Bay I have been impressed. The food is great, the beer is good, the atmosphere is relaxed and it makes for a fun and delicious evening. The only complaint I have is that the place can get a little loud and packed- but that's what happens when people find a place they love.

I've been here maybe 3 times by now. The food here is very good, and so the beer. I'm actually not a beer drinker, however, when I brought friends over, ppl loved it. I tried here the fried oysters, salad, clam chowder, lamb burger, and NW pizza. So far all very good. A YAY! for this place.

Did you go to Western? Then you probably went to boundary at some point or another. I went to western, therefore I went ot boundary... alot. I liked boundary and honestly i miss it. It was a great local pub, a good place to go after class and study a few books before eating dinner and listening to a good live jazz show afterwards with friends. It has the usual rotating staff of cooks and servers due to the local university and community college but there are always a few faces that will remain the same. The food overall is tasty, the beer is good, the wine selection sucks but that is to be expected with a pub. Their beer flights of their made in house beers are lovely and are a good intro to beer 101. The nice thing about boundary is that it was 1/2 all ages and 1/2 bar so you could go with your almost 21 friends, or family and still get a drink.

Boundary Bay is great for dinner, happy hour or just drinks. The ambiance reminds me of Fish Tale Brewpub in Olympia. The beers here are flat out delicious. I am constantly amazed and overjoyed by their season offerings. I am currently digging the Big Belgian Pale Ale. Order the salmon chowder, you will not be disappointed. The only downside is that there is sometimes a long wait. If you go with a small group (2-3) you can usually find seating in the bar area within ten minutes. edit May 14, 2013: I have found that the beer here is hangover central (this could be from a high sugar level in the beers). Service has declined somewhat lately. Hoping to see it back to a five-star level soon.

My first experience here recently was on a busy Friday evening. The place was packed, but we were seated before too long. As busy as it was, the service was still excellent. We had two kids in the party and the waitress was very patient and friendly with them. The beer was great of course - but the quality of the food also really surprised us. Looking forward to my next visit!

YES YES YES!!! I love this place, it has been my go-to place for years. The beer selection is great, the seasonal brews are even better and the menu is sure to have something for everyone. All the folks I know that go there regularly know exactly what they want to eat every time we go. I've never had to wait longer than 10 mins to get a seat either.

I have to be honest, the first two times I visited Boundary I wasn't a fan. The restaurant always seemed to be way understaffed, and I wasn't entirely impressed with the food. However, this place has somehow worked its way up to earn the spot of one of my favorite places to eat in Bellingham. The service in the bar, is much faster. The Tapenade is awesome, 10 times better than the tapenade at La Fiamma across the street. I've tried almost every item on their menu, and they are all pretty damn good, (especially with an IPA in you) Try the B.L.A.T.! The best BLT I have EVER had, hands down!!!! I love their salads, and the house salad dressing is one of my favorites. Boundary Bay is a good place to visit when you are in good company. Don't expect exceptional service. Expect good food, good beer, and just enjoy the people you are with. So come without your judging shoes and learn to appreciate the (not so) finer things in life.

This is about as good as it gets, folks. Located a handful of miles south of the Canadian border, Boundary bay may be the perfect local brewpub. The restaurant is set in what once must have been a large garage, because a giant garage door separates the main dining area from the patio area open when the weather is nice. But other than that, you'd never know it was a garage. The tables, decorations, bar, televisions and general atmosphere has nothing "garage" about it. The giant boats, sails and mounted fish adorning the ceilings and walls is a bit over the top, but overall, I loved the feel of this place. The menu is *almost* typical pub fare. The difference is the ingredients: the combinations of local ingredients and freshness of what is available. For example, my dining partner got a delicious pizza topped with smoked salmon and pesto. I had a sandwich stacked high with a fresh filet of salmon. And the pumpkin cheesecake to top the meal off wasn't too bad either. It tasted just like the perfect pumpkin pie, which I've never had, because apparently the perfect pumpkin pie is a pumpkin cheesecake. The beer is absolutely outstanding. They had nine of their own beers, each of which was heavy on the malts, giving it the depth and complexity so sorely missed by many brewpubs looking to sell a lot of beer. The malt level means it is more expensive, and you can't drink as much, because it is filling as hell. But I loved absolutely everything they put in front of me. And the service was great. Good suggestions. Attentive. Brought my large sampler out in flights so that they didn't get too warm.

Oh. My. Goodness. The "Great Northwest Pizza" knocked my socks off. The toppings are pesto, smoked salmon, roasted garlic, roma tomatoes, and chevre. Who would have thought to combine all these ingredients on a pizza? That person is a culinary genius. All of the flavors were very well balanced. When you're working with lots of strong flavors in the same dish, such as chevre and smoked salmon and pesto, it's easy for one flavor (or some of the flavors) to overpower another. That was not the case here. The restrained use of toppings allowed each one to shine though in full. In addition to the toppings, the crust was also amazing. It was a little on the thick side, crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and light enough to keep my jaw from working overtime. This is easily one of the best pizzas I've ever had. Our service was good, and the atmosphere inside the dining room was cozy and comfortable, if slightly raucous. I still have to take away one star for the beer because the lightest one, the blonde, is a little too hoppy for my tastes. And they only get stronger and more bitter from there.

A visit to Boundary Bay Brewery is likely the closest approximation of feeling like a Bellinghamite without living in Bellingham. A visit is always in order when in town, and a wait should always be expected - this place is popular! With luck you'll snag a table at or in the bar area(the waitlist/host stand covers the dining room only, which is also the only spot where underage diners can sit, sadly). Order up any of their beers, I haven't had a bad brew and hello, alcohol content! If you're ever in doubt as to which beer to try they've made it easy and have a beer sampler on the menu, and you can always start slow with a "schooner" sized-beer if the full pint seems a bit much. During my last visit we ordered up the hummus plate, a pretzel, and I had the spinach salad. My pretzel was warm out-of-the-oven and would have sufficed were I just stopping in for a beer. The hummus plate seemed endless - hummus and tzatziki with ample pita, cucumbers, sprouts, and tomatos on the side. The hummus was extra garlicky and I kinda wanted to take a tub home with me. My salad was ample and, after the hummus plate, I almost regretted ordering so much food. Honestly, a trip to Bellingham is never complete for me without finishing at least one beer at Boundary Bay. Co-workers have been to known to gently transport bottles back to savor. You'd do well to have a pint and do the same.

stopped there for lunch on a saturday. was recommended by a couple of WWU students. they make their own beer, not bad at all. the salmon chowder is pretty good, atmosphere is noisy, seems its always crowded. hamburgers are pretty good. service was ok, considering how busy they were

Returned for work and play to B'ham, Vancouver and Seattle. It was a must stop as usual. Our waitress this time was much more attentive for dinner. The food was good and, as always, the beer was fantastic. They could use some updating on the menu side of things.

Five stars for the awesome atmosphere/vibe, especially in the outdoor beer garden/deck area on a sunny day. Four stars for the food, because depending on what you order you could either end up with an average yet tasty meal, or an outstanding one. One of these outstanding dishes is the Macaroni and Cheese. Regardless of palette preferences, this mac and cheese dish is one that anyone can appreciate. More rich, creamy, cheesy, (insert equally mouth-watering adjective here) than your typical mac and cheese. The Yellow Curry is decent, however not as true and rich as authentic curry. Stick with the American classics when you're here-- Boundary Bay has these right. Definitely a must-go for dinner in Bellingham.

Let me preface this by saying, I am pregnant and only drank water. With that said, I had their Salmon Chowder and the French Dip for lunch. We sat in the tap room area. It was loud, to be expected. The soup was good, a little bland. The sandwich was good. Salty, but most are. The service was great. Our waitress was on top of everything and you could tell she was a pro. Very kind.

I'm not into beer. That being said, I can still enjoy going here with people who are, and some of the beers that they produce. They have a good selection of different foods (I had something vaguely Mexican when I went here) and they are done well. If you are going here on Friday/the weekend you want to make sure you either get here early or are prepared to wait a long time. They wouldn't take reservations when we called so we ended up going to Bob's, as we didn't want to wait over an hour. I recommend going during the week instead, or for lunch.

Oh, my love for Boundary Bay has no BOUNDS. I love this place with an amazing passion and I don't even drink beer! The food is absolutely delicious and fantastic. The atmosphere is great. The service is quick. The waiters are super friendly. The variety of food is quite impressive, as you can order anything from salmon pizza to lamb burgers. My personal favorites come from the appetizer menu: the hummus platter and the nachos (with their house salsa and guacamole - TO DIE FOR! You must get the nachos here. But keep in mind that you need at least 4 people to finish an entire plate!). Their beer sampler is a popular favorite, especially with the college crowd. Several of their beers are award-winning, and while I do not drink beer, I can tell you that my friends LOVE it here. If you've never been here, you have to go - it's fantastic!

Best IPA I've tasted to date. Food's not bad either although i'd go back for the beer any day.

Great beer and locally sourced foods. The salmon chowder is excellent. On the beer side the ESB is excellent, our favorite, also really enjoyed the Barley Wine (seasonal). Super cool and relaxed atmosphere in the tap room.

The service can not be beat! The food and beer were of course great as well - this is where we're taking the in-laws this weekend!

A trendy bar with no personality, lots of spoiled college students, annoying tourists, and a staff that has no concept of customer service. They truly have their heads up their asses here. The beers are all highly over-rated - Tastes like garbage, not worth the price and doesn't match up to all the hype. The food menu is so-so, but the atmosphere and poor service ruins it. The bartenders at Boundary Bay are THE WORST in town! They are rude, arrogant, and inattentive to their customer's needs. You will like Boundary Bay if you are a young and naive college student who knows very little about beer. You will also like it if you are a tourist and you want to buy a souvenir sweatshirt to make yourself feel special. If you like Boundary Bay you might also like their little brother, "Chuckanut Brewery" which is similar but has even lower quality products.

This place reminded me of a beer garden out in Astoria - Queens, NY The beer here was out of this world! Since we were newbies, it was suggested we tried the, "sampler" of their local brews. This place has some killer beers and not that water down crap served at regular bars. I mean, the beers here, rocked! If you like Belgium beers, you gotta come here for the Original Imperial IPA! The alcohol content is 10% for that beer so drink sllllllooowly, haha. It goes down smooth and taste like lychee! The happy hour mac n' cheese was yummy! A little bowl of cheesy goodness tamed the alchy in me that afternoon, he he. Right next door is an actually cafe/diner - although I didn't try the food - the plate of food that were coming out looked scrumptious! A definite local hot spot that impressed the east coast lady :)

2 stars because the wait staff hates the guests. Lunch was yummy , really quite good - but the waiter that brought it to me, well - not so much. It was like we were wasting his time by being in the restaurant. Serving customers was clearly not his strong suit. GET NEW STAFF! OR GET THEM ON ON ANTI-DEPRESSANTS OR SOMETHING! OWNERS TAKE NOTE: I think people will like this place A LOT MORE if you get BETTER WAIT STAFF, because your food/beer/space are very nice.

Boundary used to be a 2-3 time a week micro brew fix for me for the past 4 years or so. The beer is good. Consistent throughout the batches. The cask nights on Thursdays are fun if you can find room to stand or sit. The beer garden is great for events and sunny days. The menu doesn't really change all that much. There are no french fries! Most of the time it's a safe bet. The problem is the staff. Possibly the worst in town. They have to be the most unappreciative group ever. Ask for the most minor things to include but not limited to "Can I please see a menu? Can I have a refill of your delicious IPA? Are there any seats outside?" and you will get the surliest response. And most likely your question or request will go unfulfilled. I went in the other week at around 1pm or so. After a solid 5 week strike from the place. The main dinning room was practically empty. The tables in the bar area were about 60% full. My girlfriend and I sat ourselves. I counted roughly about 4 wait staff, a hostess and 2 bartenders. 15 solid minutes went by and no one came over for a "hello, need a drink?" What we did see was 2 of the waitress's gossiping (I can only assume) to each other for a majority of the time we sat. Drink-less. As a true advocate for craft beer and all things local I'm truly disappointed in the direction Boundary is going. It has officially become the compromise in dining for me. I think I'll pedal the few extra blocks to Chuckanut. At least they are appreciative of your business.

Great food for all times of year! On a cold, rainy day in Bellingham, which there are many of, the Macaroni and Cheese is absolutely delicious and big enough to split! Additionally, they are wiling to take reservations for huge parties; for a friend's birthday celebration we had 24 people! Wednesday is Reggae Night at Boundary in the beer garden. Not only is the beer amazing, but watching people hula hoop AND drink the beer is highly entertaining! There is a $3 cover, but after having two or three you tend to forget!

Cool place! Had a couple cask beers here that were wonderful. The IPA is good too. Lamb Burger was ok. Jayden loved it :) Definitely a stop whenever we're in town.

Good beers, but often hard to get a table at night. We have waited over 40 minutes to be seated, and often the bar section is too packed to find a table. Great outdoor seating in the summer, but the food is not great. They could benefit from a broader selection on the menu to go with their great beers.

Friday night fish and chips, music, and their great mix of beers never fails at Boundary Bay. Also, the mac and cheese is certainly delicious! You can always count on this place to be very lively :)

Took a "just because" road trip with my other half today, and we ended up at a brewery.... Should be a huge schocker to those on here who know me :) So yesterday marked my first experience at Boundary Bay, and it was quite a good one. Especially considering all the negatives on here regarding service, I'd say our time here was far better than any review I've read on here. It was a very, very busy afternoon at Boundary Bay, with most tables inside and outside full of happy patrons. We were seated in a much quicker time than they told us we would be, which is a first for anywhere that I've ever been. The beer service was lightning fast! I ordered a 6 beer sampler, and had it back out to me at my table in the back dining room in a quicker time than I thought it would take just for the bartender to pour it, let alone the time it takes for the server to go get it, and walk across the building to deliver it to me. My pint I eventually ordered, and my lamburger were both delivered in the same, impressively fast manner. The beer lineup was actually quite good. All 6 of my samples were very good, without one really sticking out as a weak point. I was surprised that the amber ale was the hoppiest, and couldn't believe they used columbus hops in it (a very strong, harsh american style hop). The scotch was excellent, and being one of my favorite styles of beer overall, I had a soft spot for it. It did have a bit more of a hop character than I feel a scotch ale should, but that's their take on it, and it's still a tasty, awesome beer I would gladly drink. I ended up ordering a pint of the Oatmeal Imperial Stout. Wasn't the best choice to pair with my dinner, but holy crap did it pair well with my peanut butter/chocolate dessert cake. The stout was fantastic as I expected it would be. I wish more northwest breweries would do an imperial stout. Our waitress was extremely friendly, attentive, and just all around a model example of what a waitress or waiter should be. Props to her, though I didn't get her name. She is easy to pick out though, towering over everyone at well over 6' tall. I would need one more experience like this to give the fifth star, but they are at a solid 4.5. 5 stars is tough to win over with me, and I never give them after my first visit. I could see myself changing it in the future though if I make it back up that way!

  • Dan L.

This is one of my favorite Northwest breweries. The food is good and I like the atmosphere. The beer is definitely the best feature, however. They have one of the best IPAs out there and the Scotch Ale is amazing if you like something a little darker.

Have the steamers. Damn good clams. If you like your micro-brew hoppy, this place is for you. I prefer mine a little more malt/yeast balanced.

We came here for a friend's birthday on a Friday or a Saturday and boy, it was busy! There was an hour-long wait which I won't complain about in my review since I didn't actually have to sit and wait myself, some buddies volunteered to do the waiting. The atmosphere is relaxed, and a little loud but that's to be expected. We were a large group but they handled us fantastically, I was very pleased with the service. The food wasn't an unreasonable price, I guess I'd say it was standard fare for a brewery/restaurant. The food was definitely decent, everyone at my table left satisfied with their meal. So really, the only warning I have is that you might have to wait a while to be seated if you're in a group.

My absolute favorite brewery. Amazing beers, great food. Try the Yamalechiladas and the Butternut Squash Creme Brulee, not to be missed! Best to go during the week and in the summer, can be extremely busy!

Ok, this is a delayed post but oh well. We have a party of 15, called and they told us if we came right down they could seat us. We rushed there and they told us it would be 30 minutes. No problem. The girl who answered the phone didnt tell anyone at all. So we have a beer, listen to the band out back. 30 minutes came, 45 minutes came and so i figured i would ask about out table. I asked and the dick rudely told me that it was going to be quite a while for us. So not only was the seating bad, the girl with the ugly purple hair was a rude little hag. We left, and will never return.

Full disclosure - I'm a wine drinker & beer is just not my thing. That being said, a friend of mine IS a beer drinker so we went for dinner. Very casual, we sat at the bar on a busy Friday night which is a great view of all the action. The highlight of the night for me were the fresh, pan fried oysters. If you're an oyster lover, you gotta give these a try! They were so fresh, not overcooked, and the tartar sauce being homemade was a bonus. Friend had fun trying the different beers - they're happy to give your 'tastes' if you ask. Some of the best oysters I've ever had. Enjoy!

  • matthew r.

Waiter was very inattentive. Beer (scotch) was actually pretty good. No fries! So I'd say your best bet is to get some Scotch Ale to go. Skip the poor service and the no fries.

Ahhh... my home away from home. This, is where my love of good beer and food all started while a student at WWU, and where my passion for home-brewing got fostered. If you find yourself up in B'ham, make the pilgrimage, you will be handsomely rewarded. Their Imperial IPA was the first non-California beer to win the Alpha King Challenge, and in 2008 came in 2nd place. Trust me, if you like beer, you MUST make a stop. They also make their own root beer (for those not fortunate enough to enjoy their tasty brews) that is great, especially with a little ice cream.

A little birdy in the form of a brother-in-law told me that the place to kick back a few is none other than Boundary Bay. Why it took me two months to finally take up on his piece of advice is beyond. There is something very comforting about Boundary. Inside, all that matters is good beer, great company and an engaged room. I dropped in during the lunch hour and was pleasantly surprised to see the kitchen-style seating in the bar completely filled. I'm still coming around the bend on this kitchen-style type that seems to be all over, so forgive me if I still sit myself at the bar. Or to the bartenders--don't. I very much enjoy being sat at a bar and talking to the bartenders especially at a brewery. Boundary was no exception. There is a vast amount of varietals, so ask away. Better yet, taste your way through them. For this trip, I started on a seasonal IPA and later eased into their regularly on-tap IPA for its rich happens. The seasonal was a bit lighter, but good nonetheless. Perfect for a spring/summer day. The regular IPA was brilliant and something I would get in a growler if having people over. So many items on the menu scream out 'order me' so get ready to let your tastebuds really go for it. Oatmeal Stout Cake--you have not been forgotten! I settled on the french dip and was greeted with the most gorgeous loaf bread and generous heap of meat. It was delicious and every bite savored. Such a great brewery with tasty fares, I left fully satisfied and excited to make an excuse for another visit.

My favorite dish here is the rueben sandwich with the harvest salad, always delicious. FIsh tacos need better sauce to go with them, they are often on the dry side. Pizza good too. Great happy hour menu and deals. Beer selection is always fantastic , I especially like their IPA. GIve it a try, you wont be disappointed.

    (4)
  • Leah S.

Can't say anything about the beer, but the root beer is great! Unfortunately, if you go on a busy night, they might be out of it. If they have it, and you're a fan of root beer, definitely try it! They make it in house. As for the food, I had a lamb burger that was good but not out of this world, but my friend seemed to like his french dip. We were there for a birthday dinner and had a chocolate oat cake that was delicious! Definitely recommend it. Overall, a good restaurant. I'll be back!

We love boundary bay. In the summer (or nice weather) we love the deck with a lovely and lively view. In the cooler weather, the bright dining room or eclectic tap room serve just fine. The steamed clams are to die for. The clam chowder should not be missed. The fish tacos and mac and cheese are my favorite dishes, but the lamb burger is a favorite too. Bangers and Mash also don't disappoint. I always order a pretzel - because it pairs perfectly with the beer sampler. The sampler led me to my favorite beer, the oatmeal stout. I am also a fan of the Blonde, but for different dishes, different beers! A note on the kids menu: It's a little random. The childrens burger is really small, but the pasta with marinara was huge, almost an adult portion. So one child left satisfied (and then some) while the other was still hungry. I suppose it would depend on the ages of the kids, but it looks like my son has to order off the adult menu from now on! We walked in on a busy busy busy valentines lunch service, only waited 15 minutes for a table, and our service was awesome. We get a growler to go, the growler was only $4.99(ish) when we bought it originally, and only costs us 10 something to fill. Worth it.

  • Brad S.

The food is just a little above average and unless you are going at off hours, expect a pretty long wait. The prices all feel a little high for what you get. But since the atmosphere is nice and the location is good, Boundary Bay has an excellent reputation as the "place to take your parents when they are visiting." It's pretty good for that, and the staff is always friendly. Bottom line is: go with a group or with your outta town parents. Otherwise, save your money and go somewhere were the food is cheaper/better and served faster.

This is a must visit when in Bellingham, the scotch ale is my favorite ! The eclectic decor is fun & last night they had a piano player, place was packed , food & beer was great. Also, there is a groupon right now:)

  • Lucia H.

Beer is good, food is average. I don't get the hype... I'm from Tacoma and I was up here with my boyfriend and both yelp and a co-worker recommended this place. I guess if you want to eat nachos and get drunk? I got the salmon pesto sandwich with potatoes and it was ok. Bread was a little dry and the sandwich didn't have much flavor. The place was packed too on a Sunday! I was expecting a higher quality food for the amount they charge... Disappointing! I was really looking forward to coming here :( Definitely won't be back.

  • Monica L.

Nice brewery. Had the flight o beer sampler and would say the English Pale Ale (ESP) and Amber Ale were my favorites. I also tried the Cabin Fever which was a seasonal. Went down nicely. We tried some things off their food menu: salmon chowder, beef beer stew and Steamers (clams). All deliciously. Would highly recommend if you're in town. They have a family friendly section too with friendly service.

    (5)
  • Toby K.

I will give them a two because I like their beer, but service is horrible. You have to beg to be served if you don't fit their "image." Went there with the in laws from out of town, we left after ten mins as we were never acknowledged. They think they are so cool they can treat people like crap because there will always be more customers. I won't go there again and I am a bellingham local. Never had a good experience with staff, but great beer, I will buy it at the grocery store.

Great beer, great food. Recommend the Yam Enchilada, pork sandwich, hummus & tapenade plates.

    (5)
  • Chris P.

The Yam Alechilades are second to none with that dynamite sauce. The Service is always quick and friendly, and I have yet to have a bad meal there. It's a little higher in price than I usually dine at, but well worth it. Great for meeting friends and hanging out.

  • Marilyn R.

Love this place! Their beers are top notch - have liked all the ones I have tried but really enjoy the ESB. Food is also very, very good! Have tried a variety of things but my favorite is the Caesar salad with chicken. Large portion even when you order a small that's very filling. Also really enjoy the pretzels on the appetizer menu - goes perfectly with a brew. When friends or family come from out of town, this is where I generally take them...and they always walk away as big fans too.

Lamb burger was cooked to well-done+. Would have told the waitress about it but she was very busy chatting to co-workers. Very disappointing. Maybe stick to their beer and eat elsewhere.

Being from Washington, DC, I had no idea where the best pub was in town. I texted a local friend and he said hands down this place. It's where the locals drink! He was right. It has a local charm to it and a huge beer and cider list. If you need a drink, go here!

    (4)
  • Bentley H.

An old favorite of mine! Been coming here since '08 and never disappointed. Whenever I get to Bellingham and have the time, I stop by. Love the caesar salad. The youngsters love the nachos. There's still a few staff left over from days gone by and it's great to see them. Keep up the good work! You guys are the best.

  • Mike L.

Great location just three blocks south of the downtown bus station, there are several beers on tap for a range of tastes. Their food menu is reasonably priced and quite appealing. I enjoyed their vegetarian chili. They have more robust meals for those with big appetites. This is a fun place to meet informally. They have an outside beer garden area for the warm weather months, too.

    (4)
  • Nancy L.

Yep, love me some Boundary! They are the heart of Bellingham and such great supporters of local non-profits. They really lead the way with their philanthropic heart and their love for the community! Thanks Boundary, I'll have another IPA :)

  • Lawson E.

Delicious food! I was recently visiting my parents in Bellingham and the idea of going out to eat came up. My mom and dad both suggested Boundary Bay, which I had never heard of. We were initially quoted a 30 minute wait when we called on the phone, and again upon arrival. Surprisingly, the wait was only about 10 minutes, as we arrived more towards the end of dinner time for most people (7:30pm?), and the restaurant cleared out pretty quickly after that. The hostesses might want to work on dialing in their time estimates a little more. I had the meat loaf off of the specials menu and I was blown away by the food quality and perfect portion. The kitchen definitely have their heads in the game, as all six people in my party were impressed by the food. I didn't have any drinks from the bar, but I did have coffee, which was delicious. I will definitely add this restaurant on my list of places to visit again. My minor gripes are that the interior was a tad on the loud side (an older building nothing on the walls that would absorb sound), and the hostesses need to work on their time estimating a little more.

    (4)
  • Davidson F.

After a rough start where it took 10 minutes for us to get some attention, Boundary Bay really turned it around. The servers were attentive, knowledgable and efficient. Beers are hit or miss. There are some real stars, but also some real duds. The blonde, ESB and IPA are great. Conversely the amber and the oatmeal stout need a lot of work. The nachos imperial seem like a big commitment but it is the first time that the ratio of chips to cheese to sauces to meat is damn near perfect. Everything tasted awesome. Red Velvet Cheesecake! Holy crap, holy crap, holy crap. It is divine. Now if you don't mind I accidentally summoned Jesus' chamber pot. A strong recommendation. We will return!

    (4)
  • Taylor T.

Loved their cider and friendly waitstaff! Their sandwiches are pretty bomb too and I'm usually gluten-free (not celiac, just lifestyle change) but I didn't feel bloated or sickly afterwards like I usually do from eating bread. Next time I hope to try a different dessert other than their red velvet cheesecake because THAT WAS TO DIE FOR

    (4)
  • David A.

This place deserves five stars for the beer alone. I tried the IPA and the Amber and both had the fresh taste of quality home brew, even though they were from a brew pub. Win. And the food is good too. I had a cup of the Beer-Beef Stew followed by the pulled pork sandwich. It might have been too much meat and beer, but shoot--who cares?

    (5)
  • Rock G.

The beer was refreshing and bursting with flavor. The lamb was a bit over cooked but still flavorful with addition of bacon. The Mac n cheese was definitely worthy of a nashing. The pulled pork was excellent for tasted but the quantity on the bun was more in line with slider portions. The red potatoes were fabulous. Last but not least the staff were friendly and courteous.

Traveling between Seattle and Vancouver as much as I do, I can always count on a great meal at Boundary Bay. Fresh, local and sustainable food, as much as possible, are always on the menu. A few of the highlights are the Pesto Salmon Sandwich, their nachos and the BEST steamed clams in the PNW. Their beer is award winning. I recommend the IPA, the Scotch Ale and the Ski 2 Sea ESB. Enter the Boundary Bay Croquet Tournament durning the summer. Always a good time. This is one of Bellingham's best!

    (5)
  • Griffin T.

Our group got the pulled pork and French dip sandwiches, and everything was really well done. The beer was awesome, of course, but there's no drink options besides beer/cider so it would've been nice to have other bar options. Our server was sweet, funny, and engaging despite it being really busy so that made the experience nice. Overall we were pleased. Everything was priced fairly for what we got, the food was good, and the beer is worth the hype.

  • Brittany C.

Excellent beer selection! The atmosphere is great. I like the outdoor seating option. There isn't much on the menu that stands out to me, but what I have had has been delicious. And everyone I've eaten with has always been happy with their meals. Service is typically pretty good too.

    (5)
  • Madi J.

The beer was delicious but the salmon chowder needed more flavor just had something lacking. I would give it a 4 stars but our waitress was also pretty rude.

Yum! A Bellingham staple to visit. Their food is all local and they have a great beer selection. I recommend their pretzel bun burger or their BLAT sand which. Soup and salads are good too. The only thing I would avoid are the enchiladas or the fish tacos.

My friends and I came all the way from Seattle to try out Boundary Bay! Even made a weekend out of it! Boundary Bay was the first stop on our B-Ham Brew tour! First off, let's get a beer.... then we will decide on food! Both of the couples in our groups got the sampler tray, seeing it was the only logical thing to do! There were 8 samples. My favorites were; Imperial Oatmeal Stout, Scotch Ale and the ESB. I rated all 4-4.5 out of 5 on UNTAPPD. Next comes food; I ordered a BBQ chicken and cheese pizza. It was good, except for the fact there was yellow cheese on it. I am not a fan of yellow cheese on pizza. Call me crazy, but that's my opinion. My husband ordered nachos. He said they were not very good. And by the looks of them, I could make better ones at home. It looked like chips covered in a bed of yellow cheese.... nothing on top. All the cheese was congealed and you could barely see the jalapeños underneath. It looked like a gut bomb. Not my thang, but whatever... He was not impressed. Definitely should've ordered a burger, or sandwich.... the pics of those all look great. I don't know what I was thinking. Ya live and ya learn! The beer was so good it over-rode the whole blah food experience. So next time I am in town I will venture back for a beer & a burger!

(4/15/2015) Stopped in for a late lunch with a local friend, she highly recommended the beer, the food was meh. Off the sampler really enjoyed the well-balanced slightly hoppy, but also slightly malty Scotch Ale. The Oatmeal Stout was delicious, too, but very boozy in the nose and weighs in at a whopping 9.6% ABV. Got the Tapenade to start, was chunky, salty, came with several slices of a nice chewy baguette; also came with several slices of Roma tomato and pile of alfalfa sprouts dressed in balsamic; I was bewildered by the plating. The pizza of the week was made with some high quality ingredients (lamb merguez, fresh mozzarella, mushrooms, green chiles), but I found the crust somewhat lackluster, thin, kind of cardboard-like. Tofu Banh Mi was just another unsatisfying occidental preparation of tofu (it was a banh mi in that it was a baguette sandwich with carrots) that doesn't seem to do much for anyone except condescending vegans. The prices were a touch high for what it was, service was earnest and super nice. Looks like a fun place for hanging out and drinking beer, especially when the weather is nice out and the back deck is available.

Really a great brewery situated in downtown Bellingham! The beer here is great! I haven't been to all of the breweries in town but Steve has and he said that this was the best one! I got the Bellingham Blonde which was excellent! Steve got their Oatmeal Stout and that was delicious! It was so dark it seemed like you were eating it and not drinking it! Good stuff! We had the munchies as well and wanted a little something to eat. We decided to get cups of chili soup. The soup rocked! It was good and spicy and had ingredients that were fresh! So good! Whenever we are back in Bellingham this brewery will definitely be one of our stops!

WOW!!!! I should be ashamed of myself, really! I moved to Bellingham in 2005 after I got out of the Navy and just moved to Seattle 2 years ago and fell in love with BB way before I even was legal to drink, from mac n' cheese, to the lamb burger (that is my favorite) and actually, to the staff..a ROUND OF APPLAUSE to past and present employees of BB. A few days ago, friends from Park City, UT wanted to try some dang good beer and I said we had to go to BB. First off, we went to Pier 56 where BB is served and they were impressed, but my heart wasn't. We made the drive all the way up there, side tracked on WA-11 (chakanut), eventually getting to BB. I was surprised to see the expansion. Again, the staff there has been always amazing, very nice. I think I saw Casey, humble guy. We ordered beers, I ordered my favorite SCOTCH ALE....*drool* *drool* happy hour food, $2.50 beef tacos, min-size order of mac- n' cheese... wings...we were in heaven.. Eventually, we had to head back to Seattle. My Utah friends talked me in to getting a insulated growler for $45 and fill it up with the Scotch Ale. I didn't want to but did. This review may be boring but if you havent been to BB, go, esecially in the summer, with the beer garden, music, etc. I miss Bellingham, Boundary Bay and everything aobut it. Much love and keep on brewing great beer. I always go to beer fest around different states but BB is my favorite.

Well-crafted, old-fashioned and sturdy, just like Chippendale; the brew is faultless - these folks know exactly what they are doing. If I was 60, that would be the kind of beer I'd drink all the time. Now, I'm 20, I want beer to surprise, amaze, astonish! Knock my socks off. Shift my paradigm. Satori. That won't do.

We love coming here! There are great events that happen here on the regular, also we love the fact that you can go downstairs and be outside. Outside they have a bar, music, BBQ, and a kid area....fun place to come hang out

The beer is good (and that's coming from someone who doesn't drink that much beer), their hard cider is great, and the food is great. I love their beef beer stew, it has a nice kick to it. But their whole menu is delicious, although I wish they had more options available. When they have the outside tables open, it's really nice to eat out there, otherwise it can be pretty loud inside, especially if you sit in the bar.

My wife enjoyed the food and the beer during a recent visit for dinner. The food was pretty good - meatloaf sandwich and beef burger w/ gorgonzola, both with house salad - and there were a number of items on the menu I would not have expected to find at a brewpub (taragon chicken, pork loin, beef filet) ... I suppose that's why they have "Bistro" in their name. The Imperial IPA was outstanding. We had glasses of both the regular (carbonated) and cask conditioned versions, and it was interesting to compare and contrast the different preparations. We both tend to like the beers in the "imperial" end of the spectrum, and they had an Imperial Oatmeal Stout that I would have liked to try if we had stayed longer. The wait for a seat in the Bistro (the only area you may sit if there are any people in your party under 21) was 45 minutes, but we were able to share a table in the bar, where "communal seating" is an acceptable norm. Our only complaint was that it was rather loud in the bar.

Great Brewery with great brews and great food! I have been here a few times and each time I am satisfied. They have a great selection of beers of which their IPA is my favorite, but they are all great. Maybe it is just me, but their stouts tend to be a bit 'stoutier' and their IPA's less hoppy than other breweries. Their food is good. I have gotten a number of their English style pub dishes which are good, but perhaps not as good as other more English oriented places. Their burgers are good and fish is great! Portions seem to be hit and miss though. Some seem absolutely huge and others have left me feeling hungry. They could do with a little consistency in that department, but this is minor. Overall the food is typically above average, but not fine dining. The service has been spotty. One time we were actually forgotten by our waitress and another we never got our appetizers. The latter time they did give it to us for free due to the mix up. Neither time was particularly busy. All other times it has been good. I love the atmosphere, which might be the best part. They have indoor and outdoor seating (get outdoor if you can during the summer) and during the summer months they typically have a band outside. The choice of bands is usually very tasteful (good for families), but there has been the occasional heavier rock band or punk which doesn't seem to suite the clientele. In all, it feels like a great place to come and relax over a beer with a few friends. I wouldn't bring my wife here for a fancy date though: its definitely more tuned to being hearty and manly. Think German biergarten (but Americanized.) For us it is one of our go-tos when hosting a friend who comes to town because it is easy and offers good selections of food which tend to be better than your average brewery.

The first time I went was with 5 other people, all of our food was slow getting to us and ICE cold. The only reason I went back was because my friend wanted to go for their birthday. My food was warm that time and the service was a bit quicker but I am still too upset about biting into chilly mashed potatoes to ever voluntarily return.

Great place for lunch. I really like their Scotch Ale and the Dry Stout. both are well done and there is something about getting them fresh, knowing they are brewed in the next room. The entrees are very good. We had a traditional burger with a nice-sized side salad and house dressing (kind of like a creamy Italian) and a decent veggie sandwich, although $11 for this was too much. The kids menu is fair. The pizza definitely came frozen out of a box form the grocery story down the street, but their Mac n Cheese and Butter & Parmesan noodles were both fresh. 2 out of 3 kids were happy, but there was enough Tim's Chips & Grapes to share.

Good in-house brewed beers! I had the IPA. I liked my lamb burger, but it wasn't the best I've ever had. I enjoyed the NW pub ambience. The best part of the experience was getting to see part of the brewing process inside through windows.

Great fast friendly service. Food was amazing. I would gladly tell friends and family about this hot spot. I enjoyed the music, choices of beers, and the Mac N cheese was to die for. I will be back to eat and drink here agaim.

Boundary Bay was great. Very busy! Wish we knew that we could go outside if we wanted the limited menu. Food options wasn't the best but what can you do, it's a brewery. Everyone was friendly. Can't wait to come again.

Wanted to try local fare on the way back from BC, pulled in to BBBB based on Yelp reviews. Lively atmosphere, decent menu selection, quaint and attentive staff. I had a HUGE steak salad, it was fresh, local and very satisfying. It was also very very reasonable. I'lllll be baaack.

I could eat only at Boundary Bay for the rest of my life and be completely satisfied. The food is spectacular, they use all local ingredients and you can tell everything is fresh and prepared with care. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. My all time favorite is the smoked salmon chowder- best seafood chowder I've ever had. The beer is just as good and pairs wonderfully with the food. The wait staff is friendly. The place can get a bit over crowded at times, and the building itself can feel a bit dirty and dingy, but the overall atmosphere is so welcoming you'll never want to leave.

A perfect place for parents who love great beer and good food! It's our kids' favorite restaurant in town. We have never had rude or bad service in the probably 30+ times we've been there, they're always friendly to families. The beer is always excellent, especially if you enjoys hops. The food is mostly amazing, with a few misses occasionally. We had burnt potatoes a few times, and they switched their pizzas out to flat bread, and my husband was super disappointed in his salmon pizza which he used to love. The yam alechilada is awesome, unique and packed with flavor. And the absolute best thing to eat on a cold day is their amazing Mac n cheese, I don't even want to know the calories in that bowl of über cheesy deliciousness. The company is a vital part of our community, they're charitable and they buy local as much as possible. Despite a few misses occasionally it's still our go-to place to eat more often than not.

Back when I was living in Bellingham, Boundary Bay was my go-to place when I had out of town visitors. The place is a Bellingham staple. The atmosphere is a lot of fun and the food is always great. I would typically order the chicken enchiladas or BBQ chicken sandwich. The enchiladas have the perfect amount of heat, and are served with yummy Mexican rice and black beans (not those terrible refried beans!). The BBQ chicken was tender and moist, and the sauce the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. Their pizzas were also pretty great as well. While I'm not a beer drinker, my friends and family said their beers were killer. The prices are extremely affordable to boot... wonderful for a broke college student's night out. Boundary Bay is a MUST TRY when you're in the Bellingham area. Just be prepared for a wait... on some weekend evenings we had to wait over 45 minutes for a table.

Food was great, beer was great, service was a bit slow for how busy it wasn't. One server was running around serving a large party and a couple of tables the other server had none. All in All good stuff...

Imperial Oatmeal Stout on cask. Yum. The food was all fantastic. We had mac-n-cheese and fish tacos. If you are on your way to Canada then stop and eat here. Because the food in Canada sucks.

I absolutely adore Boundary Bay, and I go here as often as I can. It's a bit pricey, but worth the cost. All the food tastes fresh and delicious, perfectly cooked. Their beer is also wonderful. I recommend the sampler if you're a big beer fan--I'm personally a fan of their IPA. Their seasonal beer selections are also always wonderful, and they use a lot of local products! Great atmosphere, if a bit loud at times, and the beer garden is wonderful in warmer weather. Very worth a visit.

  • Adam L.

Always a solid choice. Apparently some people don't like their beer, but I guess I just don't have as good of taste in beer as those people. Anyways, I like their beer. The food is good. Everything on the menu pairs well with beer, as is to be expected for a brewery restaurant. My favorites are the reuben and the beer-b-q sandwich, always with the caesar salad on the side instead of the regular salad or fries. The best time to go is during the summer, when the patio is open and there might be live music going on in the courtyard below. There's usually a wait if you don't go early or late, and they sometimes mix up who is next in line, which might have to do with the funky electronic system they have. The environment inside might be a little loud for some, definitely not the place to go for a first date if you want to talk a lot. Perfect place for a first date if you're good looking but not good at conversation.

  • Katie F.

The beer here is good. The food IS AMAZING! However forgo the beef stew if you do not handle spicy food. Really more of a restaurant than a normal bar or brewery. Tip: This place seriously fills up during peak times. I heard like hour wait times on our way out. So, try for off peak or be prepared to wait. (Its worth it)

I love everything about this place. The vibe is very chill, large pub area with a second dining room for people who want a relaxed dining experience. The food is where it's at. I am not easily impressed; I like to prepare my own food because I find most places aren't near as good as what I can cook at home. The menu isn't overwhelming but at the same time offers something for everyone. The quality of the dishes we chose was very good. I had the yam enchiladas and to my surprise they were probably some of the best I have ever had. My husband had the French dip and loved it, the hummus plate was so good, again, one of the best I've had out. The pricing is on point, and the beer of course was great. As we were leaving we were already thinking about the next time we come back what we're going to order!

I'll state up front that I didn't try the beer - so this review is only for the food. I had the mac & cheese and a Ceasar salad. The mac & cheese was good. The Ceasar was so-so... not bad, but not great. The service was fine. I was dining solo, so I sat at the bar. The ambiance was cool - pretty much your standard brewery vibe. This place could well rate four stars - I just didn't really get that deep into it, so hard to judge. It's certainly worth a visit though.

Loved the food and friendly staff here! The Mac and Cheese was the perfect comfort food after a chilly walk around Boulevard Park. Super rich and creamy. The star for me was the BLAT. Thick cut bacon and creamy avocado on perfectly toasted bread. The portions were generous, everything was well seasoned and super tasty. Definitely try their flight of beers, the Oatmeal Stout will punch you in the face! I wish this place was in Vancouver so I could enjoy it all the time.

Good beer, good atmosphere, but they could stand with some remodeling of their menu and beer offerings. While their standard beers are good, I would love to see some more new beers coming out of their brewery available in house. The beers they bring to brewfests have always been delicious (and new!)offerings, but they are only available at the brewfest. Food is ok. Tastes good, but it's something that I feel like I could cook at home just as tasty, but for less money. A Bellingham classic.

I love Boundary. Every time I come the food and service are amazing. The atmosphere is so welcoming, reminds me of a pub. I'm vegetarian and they seem to have a decent amount of options for us herbivores whenever I come. Not a drinker, but my friends love the alcohol selection. I'd recommend this place to anyone living in or visiting Bellingham!

I don't know what people see in this place. Food is average, at best. Hamburger is about the size of a Wendy's Jr. Cheeseburger Deluxe (at best). The pretzel bun was good, however. For $3.50, the pretzel "appetizer" is a total rip off. Small and the best thing was the mustard. Husb. had the fish tacos which were lacking, interestingly, FISH. Total waste of money but, then, why would you have fish tacos at a brew pub? I don't know. Beer itself? Average at best. Nothing remarkable.

Was just passing through and wanted to have a nice lunch with the family. This place came up highly rated on YELP, so we went for it and we were not disappointed. The food was fresh and tasty. The guys were happy with their beers and I enjoyed the hard cider. What I really like about this place is that they really put in a solid effort to offer local, fresh items on the menu, which I really enjoyed.

  • Square D.

The beer was okay. The food was okay. The servers were okay. It took ~25 minutes to get a menu in the bar, ~65 minutes to get my food and ~90 minutes to get the bill. The server checked on me once. Plus, happy hour started at 4:00 (which I did not know), but the HH menu wasn't delivered to my table until ~4:30, at which point I had already ordered. I totally would have ordered off the HH menu! Overall, Boundary Bay is fine, just fine. If you're a fan of the beer, definitely stop by. Otherwise try somewhere else. There are several other outstanding breweries with food in the B-Ham area!

Was lucky enough to end a Tour de Whatcom county bike ride here with a few hundred other cyclists. It was great. Music, beer, food. What's not to like? We had a burger and fries, and some Heff beer. The burger was cooked right in front of us on an outdoor BBQ. Oh and some onion rings, that were homemade, smokey spicy sauce came with them. Chipotle? Anyway, would love to go back and sit down inside and enjoy.

I'd heard of this place for years, but since I hadn't been to Bellingham since 2003, I hadn't yet gotten a chance to check it out - until last weekend. After moving my brother into his college dorm (Western, of course), we had a late lunch at Boundary Bay. It was 3:15 or so when we put our name in and there was a 30-minute wait, which is a little odd for that time of day. Of course, there was a football game on in the bar and it was move-in weekend, so I'm sure that all contributed. Once we were seated, the service was a little slow. Our server was VERY friendly and helpful, but we spent a lot of time just waiting to order and waiting to get our food. I get that they were busy, of course. We all had different things: my mom had a massive salad with the blue cheese vinaigrette; my brother had the pesto salmon sandwich, which he inhaled in about 2 minutes flat; my other brother had the pepperoni pizza; and I had the Mediterranean pizza and an appetizer-sized salad with Thai vinaigrette. Everyone was pretty pleased. My pizza was a *little* on the salty side, but I love salt so it was no real problem. Plus, the tapanade base was really tasty & a nice change from your typical pizza. Both of the salad dressings were great, as well. I also REALLY wanted to try the mac & cheese. I couldn't get both that AND pizza, so it's on my list for next time. I also wish I'd tried some of their beer; I wasn't in the mood for a drink but I'm excited to taste some of them next time I'm in the area.

We often have a meal at Boundry Bay when we visit our son, who is a student at Western. Every menu item that we have had has been very good, as well as the beer (try the Oatmeal Stout if you like dark beer). The staff is very friendly, parking convenient, and the location is just a short walk to the South Bay Trail, a water front walk that can take you down to the Fairhaven District. There are many good restaurants in Bellingham .... Boundry Bay is one of our favorites.

The beers at Boundary Bay are amazing, hands down. I had the Scotch Ale and it was perhaps the smoothest with the most character I have experienced ever for this type. I also had the Cedar Dust IPA as our waitress said IPA's and Scotch are what sells the most. at BB Wow, the aroma of that Cedar Dust IPA was memorable and just delicious. Amazing. The food is good but not through the roof innovative, that's about the only thing you can say here is that the food is standard but very true to form Pub food. My son loved his prime rib sandwich. And the meat was hot and piled on. One can only say "great pub fare" here, so that's what you expect in a NorthWest Pub. So the beer is 5 star and the food is 4 star, but hey give them 5 stars. They even have a pretty nice dessert menu, my son's Black Forest Cake was quite good. Try the bavarian pretzels, they are baked by a german right in town and these pretzels are just like in Munich. It will send you back (to your visit) in Bavaria (if you've been). I'm a big fan, as the solid kitchen, matched with truly innovative micro beers means this pub is a must-do. Prost!

We came here for lunch on a Monday and luckily got to sit on their covered patio. We enjoyed all of the different rooms offered for seating and there is even a covered 'beer garden' area below the patio deck. Three at our table ordered the beer sampler and I had an apple cider. The beer samplers provided tons of choices and at the right size. My cider was delicious and not too sweet or dry. Food wise, upon Yelp's suggestion, two people ordered the mac and cheese. I had the salmon chowder and the reuben sandwich with a side salad. The chowder was amazing and chocked full of veggies and salmon. My sandwich was pretty good and I really enjoyed the bleu cheese vinaigrette on the salad. All of us at the table definitely agreed that this was the best mac and cheese we've had at a restaurant. You get a large bowl full and the panko crumbs on the top were a nice touch. I liked all of the posters with the various events going on, posted all around the building. Looks like a busy spot no matter the day. The location is super handy and we wouldn't hesitate to stop here again.

I really liked the atmosphere of this place, and the service was decent. The food was a bit of a disappointment though. I got the fish tacos, and they were just really bland. I think I will go back and try something different, and possibly update my review then.

  • Walter K.

I don't like to slam a place after only one visit, but I don't know if I'll ever be in Bellingham again. The service here is quite poor, and that's what brings the whole experience down a notch. The beers are all over the map, with the ESB being the only real standout of the crowd. The menu is average pub food, which is prepared in an average manner. The description of the burger sounded great, but I was given an overcooked patty that really looked like it came from the freezer. The outdoor deck is nice and the tent in the courtyard looks cool for events, but overall, BBB doesn't bring anything innovative to the table at all.

  • Lindsey P.

This is a good places to bring out of town guests. It is a bellingham staple. The beer, made in house, is great, but the small menu never rotates so it isn't the type of place I would make a regular stop. Don't get me wrong, just about everything on the menu is great, it just gets boring. Waits to get in can get long at dinner time, but I tend to see that as a good sign.

  • Carly B.

Bonkers busy. Place was bursting at the seams and yet still super cold. How a room jammed full of people generating heat could still be drafty is a mystery. We were told it was a 20 minute wait for a table in the restaurant but we could hang out in the bar if we could find a seat. We managed to join another table, but it took another 15 minutes for a server to come see us. They seemed to be understaffed. Most of the wait staff working the bar looked stressed out and irritated. Once we moved to the restaurant it was much quieter. Our waiter seemed to be in much better spirits than the bar staff. But the beers and food were just a waste of money. Boring beer. Boring food. My fish tacos were bland and my partners pulled pork was dry.

Great food and a wonderful atmosphere. The ubiquitous sports on the TV will be a boon for some, but for us non-sports fans it does get a bit annoying. I had the B.L.A.T., which was terrific. Note for Disabled: Crowded as hell and hard to maneuver if you are disabled. Uneven floors, steps, narrow aisles. Staff is very friendly, I am sure they will accommodate you if they can.

The beer was pretty good, and priced appropriately. The food was phenomenal though! With plenty of space, this seems like a great place to hold casual meetings or host group lunches/dinners.

If someone want to shop at the farmers market and it's after 12 this is an excellent place to wait for them. The down side to that is you probably shouldn't drive afterwards as having just one beer there is impossible. Stop in and treat yourself

Mac and cheese and local micro brews? If you find yourself in downtown Bellingham, do yourself a favor and settle into the beer garden in the summer or the spacious bar/restaurant in the winter and eat and drink till your little Northwest belly is full. The perfect place to hibernate and talk about the sweet pow pow on Baker or start your hamster crawl around to the local bars, Boundary Bay is a Btown institution. This was probably my first ever micro-brew, and it holds it's place in my heart despite the many others I've tried since. Hoppy hops hops and farm to table Northwest dining? Doesn't get any better than that! Try the burger, the summer fish frys, that M & C I mentioned, or any fresh fish they have on the menu. I've been there many times, but most recently on a holiday trip to see the family. We were out on a Friday night and walked in the door right as it was last call. The bartendress poured us one last glass of this PNW elixir and we cheers-ed being home. She was so sweet, didn't rush us, and seemed to love her work. Local babes serving Bellingham beer. My heart was full of sudsy love, Thanks BB!

Boundary Bay Brewery & Bistro is another must try in the north sound for any beer lover. The tab room and bistro has a very rustic feel walls are adorned with great local artists' works as well as other eclectic items to create the cozy feeling in a large room. The staff is very knowledgeable of the beer and food and can always make good recommendations. Again they offer a wide range of regular style beers as well as great seasonals and other new offerings. The food is really good as well to go with great beer. I ordered the Pesto Salmon Sandwich served on foccacia with a basil pesto cream cheese, lettuce, tomato and a house salad. The foccacia was perfect to hold the salmon and the basil pesto cream cheese gave the sandwich a different twist and match perfect with the fish. Try the alehouse vinaigrette nice on any salad. Nice place.

If I was Robin Williams in "What Dreams May Come," my heaven would have been BBay. This is the best beer I've had in my life. I have tried almost everything on their menu and love this place more than some of my immediate family members. Order an IPA or Scotch Ale if you like heavier beer and start off with their imperial nachos, hummus plate, or pretzels. Their smoked salmon clam chowder, reuben, BLAT, macaroni and cheese, and pulled pork are divine. Also, get a house salad. They make their own croutons and house dressing- you won't regret it. The place is always pretty busy, but the waitstaff are able to get you seated in a reasonable amount of time. The ambiance in there is comforting too- high ceilings and brick walls with local art and string lights. A+

Boundary has been a Bellingham destination for a long time. As a college student, I remember taking my parents there during their first visit because it was a top priority landmark. I think it does have draw as a travel destination and is a great Bellingham experience, but if you're looking specifically for good beer, good food or good conversation I would recommend other places. The beer is good - although I would argue not the best in town. I do think it was at one point, but there is now more competition than when Boundary Bay first opened. And hopefully you like beer as there are no hard alcohol or mixed drink options. The seating inside is cramped (they've really maximized the floor space) but there is still a wait during most peak meal times. The outdoor seating is fantastic when the weather is nice. The outdoor concerts and events are definitely a draw. The outdoor seating, which is grassy and set down below the front street level and feels very secluded and lush, is all covered picnic tables. You also get some good views of the bay. If you're touring town for the first time or if there is a good band playing, I would recommend Boundary.

One word: amazing!... Amazing food... Amazing service... Amazing beer! Visiting from San Francisco Bay Area and I believe we can do food in SF. This place deserves a nod. We'll definitely be back.

Our second time to BBB. Really unique Bistro pub food. The usual pub fare is good, but take a chance on the dinner menu. The Mandarin Tarragon stuffed chicken is amazing! Last time I had the pepper bacon wrapped meat loaf. Yes. I said bacon and meatloaf in the same sentence. Enchiladas rock. AND they make their own root beer. Kudos.

Stopped for a late lunch and beer a couple of weeks ago. Ordered the meatloaf sandwich and pulled pork sandwich and had half each. The meatloaf had better flavour. Good portion size and overall good meal. Also tried a couple of house beers, I had an amber ale which had good balance and flavour. The brew master is on the right track. We will be back but will be trying some other brew pubs in Bellingham first.

Well, it's simply a yummy place with a lot of beer... so what is there not to like? Pros? -Their beer is great! -Relatively cheap soup and salad combos for lunches -Nice views -Friendly and quick service Cons? -Nothing really.. it's just definitely got more of a chain feel than a local feel and I suppose I imagined it being a bit more cliche

Great brew pub - very good beer, with very good food. What more could one ask for from a pub. It was busy on a weeknight at 5:30pm, with a 15 minute wait, and tells the story of how popular a place it is. The grilled salmon I had was very good, as was the beer (Scotch Ale) beef stew, as was the 6 x 5 oz. beer sampler. The grilled salmon here is just as good as at Anthony's.

Good food and selection of their own beers. Happy hour eats are ridiculously cheap. We split three items between the two of us, each person had something to drink, and the tab was $17. SEVENTEEN DOLLARS. Love the mac and cheese. If you really love their beer, you can buy a gallon jug of it, or a whole keg. I worked out the price and it's better than water (and tastier too).

Beer here is great. Food sucks. Worst burger of my life, dry dry dry. And the waiter was super rude to me and my friend for no reason. We weren't doing anything except ordering beer and food and watching World Cup. Guess he knew we weren't locals. Won't be back, and I'm pretty sure they couldn't care less.

I came here after kayaking in Wildcat Cove all afternoon. The IPA really went down nicely after a long day of paddling. I sat in the bar area and enjoyed relaxing to the live piano music while I ate a nicely prepared steak with Chimichurri sauce and roasted potatoes. Looking forward to returning with a Fragonard driver!

I love this brewery. They have great beer. They have a beer for every taste. The food has always been well made, reasonably priced, and well portioned. In the summer the deck is a great place to sit and enjoy a good meal and nice cold beer.

The beer, food, and service were fabulous. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of everything. Was catching a flight out of Bellingham back to Cali and stopped by for a bite before. Looks like it'll be our go to spot here. Pan fried oysters were soooo delicious. Had the Reuben sandwich which was ok but wanna try something different the next time. The beers are great. Relaxed atmosphere. Can't wait to go back.

We were a party of 6 for lunch at noon on Monday (even reserved the tables). We ordered several burgers, a pulled pork sandwich and mac-n-cheese. Simple fare. Every meal was luke-warm to cool. The order took 30 minutes to be ready despite being the 4th seated table among many tables. All in all a bad experience for $80. Their beer was good as one would expect. The food was great a few years ago. Red Robin is a better experience save for non-local ingredients.

We only had one night in Bellingham and decided to come here because of the great Yelp reviews. Let's start with the good - the service was amazing! The hostess was great, thanking us a few times for waiting (45 minutes!) and our servers were also great. About a minute after being seated one server moved us to another table that had just opened up because it would be more comfortable (it was - bigger and more to the side). It must have been in someone else's section because we had a different server after that. He was also great - friendly, knowledgeable, fast! Now, the most important part - the food! It was...meh. Not bad at all, just nothing special. We got the imperial nachos ($20?! For nachos?! No. Not worth it), bangers and mash (it grew on me, but it was never delicious - definitely better with the mustard-y sauce), and the prime rib sandwich (tasty but again, nothing special). Overall, it just wasn't worth the cost. I would come here again if I was with someone who wanted to come, but if I were visiting on my own I would definitely try somewhere else!

The food was good and I didn't try beer. What really turned me off was they they way overcharged my friend for a modification he made to the Mac and cheese. He ordered the kid's and cheese with bacon. They added about a slice and charged $3. I could see if this was for the adult Mac where they added a full side order, but not a single slice. I got the French dip sandwich, which was pretty good. The roasted potatoes that came as the side digs were awesome. It was has a pretty fun atmosphere.

I've had the soup and salad (salmon chowder!) - the chowder is amazing. I go just for that. I love that everything is made from scratch, even the bread and salad dressings. Also had the Reuben and the friend oysters, both of which were delicious. It is a little pricey but a great value for the food.

Let me start by saying you HAVE to try te Mac and cheese! Absolutely to die for! Only 3 stars though because we ordered the tofu sandwich expecting something new and different. But it literally was just a piece of plain tofu on bread with some veggies..... Also, the drink menu doesn't list the beer prices. Usually I would have just ordered one but having some bank issues that day I didn't want be surprised when the bill came and pay something ridiculous for a glass of beer. Good vibe, fun place though.

The IPA that is the standard that other brewers have to match or beat is the Boundary Bay IPA. I love this beer and there are only a few others that can match or beat it. So, it's a given that I'm going to stop by the brewery when I'm travelling to and from Vancouver, BC from Seattle. It's a beautiful Sunday midafternoon and we arrive when all the doors are open and the patio is so inviting. It's not too busy, so we opt for outside seating. "That'll be a 15 minute wait." says the guy behind the counter as he folds knives and forks into napkins not missing a beat. Ah, can't be too long as I can see there are 3-4 empty tables. So I say, "Sure, we'll wait. I'm sure it's worth it?" Whereby, he calmly gives me the electronic cup holder pager not saying a word and continues to fold knives and forks away. Boy is my stomach growling as other's come asking for the same seating and told it'll be really long wait, "You can go into the bar area where it's open seating". I say to my fiancée, "This is taking a while, can I go into the bar and get you a beer?" She says, "I'm starting to become cranky as I'm really hungry!" I'm starting to second guess that going to the bar was a better option and screw the patio. I'm starting to count the seconds and almost seems to the minute, it's been the mandatory 15-20 minute wait we have to endure and we are walked to our table where water and menus are waiting. Where we end up waiting for another 10 minutes where you can see our desperation for having one of those coveted IPAs to get our blood sugar elevated. The person that showed us the table comes by and says, "Has ??? come by?" I say, "We've not seen him.". Then she offers an apology saying he's the only "server" for the patio and she'll take our beer order were we again have another 10 minute wait for the beer and then she takes our menus without us making a food order. Now, the server shows up and asks, "Are you eating today?" seeing that our menus are gone guessing he assumes we're skipping the meal. Quickly we blurt out, "I'll have the burger and she'll have the French Dip". The food comes and my fiancée wonders, "Isn't there supposed to be cheese on a French Dip?" Hmmm, I don't know, but I'm starving and would eat it with or without cheese this time. As you can see we had an off day and seemed like nothing was going right. I had the feeling I was in an episode of "Kitchen Nightmares" where the service was running at the pace and ambiance of your local post office where you have 2-3 greeters at the counter and 1 server. That said, "I still love their IPA" and next time I'm going to the self-serve bar stool where the beer is at arms reach.

It really breaks my heart to write this review but I did not have a great experience with Boundary Bay. I live in Santa Monica now, but grew up in Seattle. This was my first time home in over two years and I made an effort to drive up to Bellingham just so I could visit BB. The food was alright. I had the french dip and my girlfriend had the B.L.A.T. The BLAT actually looked great. Generous avocado, bacon, etc. The french dip was okay. Not sure what would make that sandwich amazing since it's pretty basic. The BLAT was definitely better. The beer was good. The IPA was what I liked the most and therefore got a growler of it to bring back to Seattle with me. The rest of this story in a bit. I also had the imperial IPA which was very good. However, it was served in a 10 ounce glass which always rubs me the wrong way. Charge me more and serve me less because it has over some arbitrary level of ABV. In this case I believe it was 8% which is pretty low. I don't like it when any brewery does this, but this is not why I am giving two stars. After we left, we drove around and took pictures of the area. It was a great day and the weather was beautiful. I had the growler in a bag in the back seat with a pint glass and another growler and occasionally had to stand them up since they would fall over. The other growler was filled at another brewery. I kind of noticed a little beer on the BB growler but just figured it was because it was over-filled at the bar. When I got home and put the growlers in the fridge, the BB growler was half empty. The waitress or bartender had failed to tighten the lead and therefore I lost half the beer in the backseat of my rental car. Fantastic. I lose out on beer that I rarely get and made an effort to have and my rental will be returned reeking of beer. Our waitress seemed kind of spacey but I never assume I have to tighten my own growler when it's filled at a brewery. Shortcomings on basic things like that make it impossible for me to give the sort of rating I would prefer to give a place like Boundary Bay. Maybe I'll be back someday and update this review for the better, but in the meantime, the waitresses and bartenders should learn to tighten the growler lids.

I've been here a few times and I enjoy the food, I truly do. I'm not impressed with the service. They act as if they are bothered by you asking for something. The worst was our waiter was being such a jerk, he was totally ignoring us! I don't get why...so we stopped another waitress and just wanted to know if we could get more beer and our growlers filled. Instead of trying to help, she's like "you need to ask your waiter". It would have been nice if she said "let me get your waiter for you." or something like that...sad. They're lucky their beer is good and the food is yummy!

The wait staff do not give you anywhere near enough attention. It's hard to get a second beer, no matter how much you want to give them your money. Beers taste pretty good, but I have NEVER had such a terrible hangover as I had after having two BB scotch ales. So, my advice? Only drink ONE beer. On that note, I guess it's better that the waitstaff never come back to ask you if you want another beer.

Delicious beer, great food, dope location, lively atmosphere, professional service... this place has it all! Boundary Bay is the standard to which I compare all other brew pubs to some extent. This is probably due to the fact that it was the first one that I returned to regularly, and I've had a lot of great dining and drinking experiences with friends here. This place is built on beer, and they certainly do that well. Boundary Bay IPA and Scotch Ale can be found elsewhere in the region, but I'm pretty sure that many of their seasonals and other releases can only be found here at the source-- only place I've seen 'em, anyway. The IPA and the Scotch are certainly kick-ass brews (I bought a whole keg of the Scotch Ale once), I always love to try something different and it seems like they've always got a new one or two on tap. Most recently I had a couple pints of the seasonal red ale; tasty indeed! The restaurant here puts out an impressive menu of soups, salad, seafood, sandwiches, burgers, steaks, pizza, pasta, etc... plus there are daily specials and most of the ingredients are from local sources. Everything I've tried so far was superb, and while dining here isn't exactly cheap the prices are really reasonable for the quality of the meals served. Service is a cut above as well; the wait staff here are well trained on the menu, the brews, and keeping diners happy. On my last visit, I was having a hard time deciding between a few choices and the waiter recommended the lamb burger (with goat cheese on a pretzel bun, served with a side salad): awesome! He kept the beer coming, too :) All of the above would be enough to make this a 5-star joint for me, but the location (just above the waterfront in downtown Bellingham), the facility itself (huge old building with a full brewery, tap room, indoor/outdoor dining areas, beer garden with live music stage) and the great people working and drinking in it make it really special.

First time trying them for dinner! Salmon and mashed...here I come! Ok...I officially have a food baby! Great portions, and omg, the mound-o-potatoes! I was so starving and this meal really hit the spot. THANK YOU BOUNDARY BAY!... you saved me from passing out from hunger!

Great beer, fantastic ambience, attentive and knowledgeable staff. Food menu has some interesting variety from standard pub fare - I always opt for the Steamers but the Yam Enchiladas also get rave reviews from my friends!

  • Shinwook P.

I've been here a couple times, and both times, the place was busy, so we had to wait a bit. It's very popular, so I guess that means the food is good haha. I've had the lamb burger and the Reuben. Both are very delicious. And their baked potatoes are amazing. Servers were friendly and they gave my friend a free dessert on his birthday. They take a while to hand us the checks and take the checks, but we were all having a fun time, so we didn't really mind. Overall, great food, great ambience, and great location. You can see the sunset from the windows!

This place is so noisy that it is impossible to have a conversation without shouting. If you like that sort of atmosphere the food is adequate.

  • Lizzy R.

My husband and I stopped here for lunch during the week along our trek to Alaska. The place kind of comes across as a place that's more dressy than your average brew place, so we sort of felt out of place because we were wearing pajamas due to driving half a day (and intending to drive the rest of the day). There was a bit of an illogical wait for lunch as the hostess took her time to grab an infant swing, even though there were a ton of empty tables and everyone who came in after us were seated before us. Anyway, the food was incredibly delicious and you could tell that everything was home made. When you hit up the bathrooms, you become surrounded by the amazing smell of beer brewing, as the mash tuns and other brew equipment are in a room next to the bathrooms. I love the smell of hops so that was a neat experience. I had the IPA on draft (hints of honey, yummy!) and it was very good. I had the tofu burger wit ha side of potato chips, and it was delicious. The reason I'm giving only 3 stars is because wait staff was kind of slowish to bring food and the check, and we were unfortunately seated next to a table who insisted on talking about infertility treatments the entire time we were there, with no intervention by the staff. The whole (loud) conversation made me feel like my own reproductive system would wither up and fall out, and it was really uncomfortable to endure while trying to enjoy a nice meal.

Delicious! I've tried most of the menu but my favorites are the Beer B.Q Pork Sandwich and the Pesto Salmon sandwich. Excellent locally-based ingredients, great atmosphere and always tasty. Also, every beer is epic.

Love their beer! I would recommend pretty much any of them. The vibe is nice, and they make a smoked salmon chowder that is absolutely fantastic. I've tried other things, but the chowder is my favorite and not really worth straying from. The only thing keeping me from a five star rating is the service. It's very hit or miss, some days I receive fantastic service, while other times it's the opposite.

Boundary Bay is an easy, go-to pick for great beers and appetizers on a weekend night. I've really enjoyed the pan fried oysters here, although they are much bigger and better in the winter months than summer. The nachos here are ginormous with lots of beans, cheese, onions, guacamole and salsa on the side. Great for sharing! The smoked salmon chowder here is fantastic, as are the sandwiches, and clam steamers - really have never been disappointed with any of the food here and the selection is great. This place opens up nicely in the summer months with the rolling garage style door out front, providing open air dining. And the side patio and beer garden are fun for enjoying some brews outdoors with friends. I'm a big fan of their scotch ale and amber ale. And their rotating seasonal ales are always a pleasure. Cheers!

One of the best brew pubs I've been to. Period. Their standard selection of brew are always spot on. My personal favourite is the ESB followed closely by the Scotch Ale. They always have rotating taps of seasonal beer that are worth a try. The food here is unbelievably good. This isn't just your run of the mill pub classics. They've taken great pains to make the dishes as tasty as possible. They use as many local and seasonal ingredients as they can get their hands on, and it shows in the quality. I've managed to work my way through almost everything on the menu and there isn't a bad dish on there. The Chicken Enchiladas and Mac & Cheese are the stand-out favourites for me. If you're just popping in for a quick pint, be sure to order the Bavarian pretzel. It's worth it!

Beer was delicious, had a great 'drinkability' to it without compromising the flavors. Had a sampler and they threw in an extra one for free! Everyone was nice and knowledgable. I imagine this is where the sailors would come right after landing in the port and I love it. If I'm ever close, I'll be stopping by again.

Yeah yo! Love this place. I stop here pretty much every time I pass through Bellingham (usually to climb in the North Cascades). It's a big, raucous, noisy, public house type place--very popular with the college crowd at night. They've got a pretty decent set of taps representing local and regional brews. The burgers are big, sloppy, tasty affairs. Try the lamb burger with the pretzel bun. The chicken enchaladas are a bit more hippie than Mexican for my taste, but certainly chongalicious, like something you could shovel down while stoned, which is the hallmark of good hippie food (and quite frankly the point of it). It can get packed in there--especially later in the evening with the beer drinking crowd. But you should go there. It's worth your time.

Nice sized brewery. The food was so so...ordered the curry and barley chowder which was very tasty. The best dish was the salmon chowder. Huge chunks of salmon and a buttery taste. The meatloaf special looked pretty on the plate but sported a lackluster flavor. It just didn't taste very good...lacked that tomato tasted to it that I associate with meatloaf. The lamb burger was ho hum. The burger was dry and cooked too well....and I have had better...my friend wanted to get a WABL stamp and tried their taster menu. He appreciated the brown oat stout (?) It had the highest alcohol content...my friend said it was smooth and tasted very good.

Awesome restaurant with friendly staff, made a 6-hour layover in Bellingham well worth the walk/bus ride in from the airport worth it. Had Steamers, which were excellent and several different kinds of beer. Enjoyed watching the brew-master work with the kettles through the observation window next to the bar.

I've been to Boundry bay a half dozen times. It's always crowded and long waits for a table. Once you are seated, it is SO loud, it's hard to carry on a conversation. Most of the clientele is college students and baby boomer hippies. The food is OK, large portions but Nothing great. I know it's all about the beer, and their beer is good. But they only serve their beer. Frankly I think it's an overrated place. There are better places to eat in Bellingham.

I've made it a tradition to go to Boundary Bay every time I go to Bellingham. I love their blonde beer and their fried oysters are delicious! Their dinners are all pretty good but it's the beer and oysters that keeps me coming back. Their service is great and there is always good vibes. I would give the restaurant 5 stars but my girlfriend got a headache from eating the mac n cheese. Source: I drink a lot of beer and eat a lot of quality seafood in Seattle

Must have the root beer, it's so delicious. The smoked salmon chowder is sinful....the pizzas are pretty good, my husband likes the pulled pork or the pretzel burger, but I come here for one thing....the meatloaf sandwich. Delicious. A blend of pork and beef I believe, beautifully spiced, not too dense and held together with just the right amount of binder, topped with the classic ketchup and served on grilled local bread with lettuce and red onion. Seemed too humble a sandwich for this place but have it a try and it's the only thing I order now. I wish they had house cut fries over roasted potatoes or Tims Potato Chips, but what you gonna do. Another favorite is the yam alechiladas. I'm a huge fan of the savory sweet combination, and the sweet mashed yam and caramelized onion filling with the savory mole sauce, cheese, rice and black beans makes a great combination. My only complaint with that dish is that whenever it's brought out it's always semi-hot....hm. Still delicious.

Location is the only good thing about this place. No doubt it's a popular spot in bellingham. Cliche if you ask.....anyone. Let's see what's on tap? A head ache. Would you like a pint or a pitcher of head ache tomorrow? Maybe just a schooner? Might as well have some diarrhea to go with it. Let me get you menu a then. I was getting mediocre service while waiting a long time for my food. Food gets here and there's a long I mean long hair on my green beans. I waited. Waited some more. Finally my server came by and I pulled up the long hair. She said what would you like me to do. I asked for no hair please. She took the plate and was bringing me another. I waited. I waited some more. The food comes back. It was the exact same plate only now it sat in the window for ten minutes. Cold and gross looking now. I even found another or maybe the same hair in the food. I asked for the manager. Waited. My server came back and says "I guess I am the manager right now?" I summarized the experience for her.

Decent burger, menu is deceptive which kinda bothered me. It says burger comes with 'all the fixings' then they charged us for cheese and onions.

When I'm in Bellingham, I try to make sure I have time to stop in to BBB. It's the best of what B'ham has to offer. Great people watching, great brews, good views and good pub food. Our go to place

Best ipa in the world. Best oysters in the world. 1 dollar too pricey. Great atmosphere. Always busy.

Great atmosphere, large space to accommodate big groups. Was certainly busy and hopping on a Friday night but we were able to find tables for everyone fairly quickly. I tried their Oatmeal Stout and absolutely loved it. I also had a cup of their Beer Beef Soup and was very satisfied with it. I wasn't overly hungry and it was just enough to supplement the beer. The flavor and meatiness was great. My friends tried the salmon chowder bowl, the fried oysters and the meatloaf. Everyone enjoyed their food and beers.

I already knew how much I liked their IPA from having it in Seattle. Hence we chose to stop on our way through Bellingham. The lamb burger was also very tasty, and the setting is cool. The kids' mac and cheese was too fancy (bread crumbs) for the kids, allowing the grownups to savor it. Service was fine but without much personality.

We decided to give it a try. It is not all we expected inside but it is a pub. The smoked salmon chowder was delicious and the fish tacos were great except I was not crazy about the corn tortilla. I don't believe it says corn tortilla on the menu that's why I got it. The flavor was pretty good and I didn't eat the tortilla. My husband had a beef soup which was so a great soup. He bad Ruben sandwich. I took and bite and thought it was great. We both tried their blond ale and that was another great beer. Overall this was a great dinner. We will certainly go back.

As a rule this place has always been great! Today though really sucked. We waited 35 minutes for our meal and was told we were missed in the kitchen. When the meal came my wife's stew was amazing but the Beef dip was like chewing leather. I couldn't finish it. I'll go back but if the service is as slow and the food sub par it will be the last time. PS. great craft beer!

What can I say? The BF and I love beer! We decided to hop in the car and make the trek out to Bellingham yesterday. We got to Boundary Bay just in time for lunch and some college ball. The place was pretty empty when we walked in, so we grabbed two stools at the bar right in front of their two tv's. He got the salmon pesto sammie and their Scotch Ale, while I got steamers (a hefty bowl of clams) and a beer sampler. The BF loved how flavorful his sandwich was, and I loved how delish the clams were (and, the crunchy bread to sop up all the yummy broth was great!) Of the beers in my sampler, I really liked the Blonde Ale (and I'm not usually one to drink light beer), ESB, Scotch Ale and Oatmeal Stout! I'm not a huge fan of hops, so I did not drink the IPA at all (I passed that off to the BF) and I only took a few sips of the Amber... I thought the Amber had a little more hops than I usually like in an Amber! As the day progressed and the college ball games went on, we both drank more beer. He and I both really liked the Dry Irish Stout. We were surprised halfway through our meal to turn around to find the entire restaurant behind us just packed with people! This is def a place where people near and far come to enjoy good food and great beer! I highly recommend Boundary Bay Brewery to any craft beer lover!

This place has some of the best food and beer Bellingham has to offer! Mac and cheese is to die for! However every time I go here, I reminded why I never want to come back. THE SERVICE IS HORRIBLE. I chose boundary for my birthday dinner, and was unable to make a reservation for 12. Understanding that 12 is a large party to accommodate, I showed up 45 min early to get my name on their waiting list. They assured me it would be around 1/2 hour. 45 minutes later I saw another large party being sat. After confronting the host, I was told they had given my table away to the other party because they thought we were the same group. Without apologizing we were told we could wait an hour or sit at 2 separate tables. They managed to further ruin the experience by spilling a full beer all over my best friend. I won't be going back until I hear the service has improved.

So far we have had the salmon chowder, the salmon w potatoes and veggies, and the salad with the house vinaigrette. Scotch ale was really good and the wife loved the pear cider. All very good choices. Also had the brownie with ice cream which was tasty, but perhaps the brownie was a bit too rich. Only thing lacking was more and better dessert options when we went, but apparently those change. Server was friendly, but did take a bit long at times. Granted it was pretty busy and we were sitting in the bar area.

Sunday lunch, June 23, 2013. Sat in the bar and ordered lunch. Tried the brewed on site stout. Not bad. Ordered yam alechiladas and my wife ordered fish tacos. The place was about half full. Our order took more than half an hour to arrive. when it did, it was cold. Sent it back, this time it only took ten minutes and was hot. Food was tasty. Server could have been a lot more attentive. She never even asked my wife if her fish tacos were hot. They like serving beer in this joint not food. If you're hungry try somewhere else

A very peaceful, relaxing pub to grab a burger and knock back a couple pints of delicious, delicious beer. I reccomend sitting on the patio if the weather allows and soak up the sunshine with your suds, you can even get a view of the Sound from out there. The food here has always been superb and filling. I've hit this place many times after mountain biking and that just makes it all the better! A Bellingham standby!

I love this place! I grew up in Mount Vernon and both times I have come home to visit I have come here (thanks Alisha and Sean)! Both times I have been here with large groups and they staff was very accommodating and the service was great. I had the mac and cheese and it was delish. My husband is the beer drinker and he loved the selections. If we could have safely taken a growler home he would have. I think this place alone has made him want to relocate to Bellingham!

  • Stephanie S.

Three cheers for the beer sampler!!! I can't say that I love anything else on the menu, however. I've tried all but maybe one of the vegetarian dishes- and none were really all that great. The last time I was in, they made me a plate of veggies, hummus, and pita- which was good. It was nice of the kitchen to go out of their way to create a custom plate, and the effort was definitely appreciated. They do have great beer- lots of it. If you drink here, you'll be going home drunk- it's a given.

Great place for beer, but not my first choice when headed out to eat. The food isn't always great and they don't make a great effort to accommodate dietary restrictions.

Pros: the IPA, the Scoth Ale, ESB, very welcoming of parents with kids in the dining area, reasonable prices Cons: not very good food- we had the fish tacos, cheeseburger and the Ruben, all were just edible/ "ok" but nothing that good

  • Mark M.

The beer (Scotch) was excellent and reserved -- not nearly as tart as other Scotches I've had before. The Prime Rib French Dip on the other hand... was not anywhere near worthy of the name "Prime Rib". It may have been rib roast, but it wasnt ever prepared like prime rib. The beef was brown and flaky-dry. And as any person with intimate knowledge of prime rib knows, brown and flaky dont describe prime rib unless yer talking about the salty crusty fatty edge of the roast... Everything tasted fine. Good even, thanks to making my own horseradish sauce -- real horseradish and mayonnaise (1/3 parts). But BBB&B be guilty... of false advertising. You want a REAL Prime Rib French Dip? Go to any Houston's Restaurant to see and taste how it's supposed to be. Beer is great, by the way.

Quick Takes: * best beer in Bellingham (large selection) * classic local spot (probably best known place in town) * better than average pub food * big place, often busy but can usually accommodate larger groups after a little wait * order the cup of pretzels with mustard if you just want something to munch on with your beer! Really great beer in a typical brew-pub setting. This is an iconic Bellingham spot and is generally pretty busy but is a big place so the wait isn't usually too bad when I've gone. They have standard pub options such as burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, as well as some pricier/fancier dinner options (which I've never ordered).. Food I've ordered has been better than average but nothing super amazing, with the exception of their smoked salmon chowder with is fantastic and a favorite amongst my friends. They have cheap options for their small salads/cups of soup if you are looking for just a small snack while you guzzle their beers.

A classic local brewery in Bellingham, Boundary Bay has a delicious menu as well. The other night I ordered the Salmon Pesto Sandwich and a side salad with dill ranch dressing. It was perfect, every part of it. The yummy foccacia bread is lightly toasted with a pesto-butter sauce, served with a nice chunk of salmon. The meal was satisfying, delicious, and the perfect amount of food. I had a dry Riesling wine with it, which was reasonably priced for a glass. I'm not a beer connoisseur, but they do have a tasty selection of local brewed beer. I believe one or more of their beers are served at a handful of bars in the Northwest, you may've seen or already tried their beer in Seattle. Head to Bellingham to try their other beers! They serve only beer and wine, no liquor. Along with an all ages dining area, they have the large bar area which is 21+ and often has live music on the weekends. In the summer the outdoor section is enjoyable and in the shade. The lower outdoor section in the summer also has live music and dancing. Great restaurant, a must if visiting Bellingham!

It was explained to me that this place is a local institution. I do love beer, so any brewery, especially one deemed as such, was on my must-try list. The place itself is really cool. It looks like an old warehouse in the downtown Bellingham area, and has an outdoor patio area with some grass, where they have reggae nights on Wednesdays (use of the words reggae and grass in the same sentence not entirely intended...). I tried the sampler, which had 6 beers, including a stout, amber, IPA and a few other staples. All but one were pretty good, but nothing spectacular a la Sierra Nevada. Our waitress was nice...sort of. We asked her to take a picture, but she was too busy and blew us off. Granted, she did return 20 minutes later and offer, but it would have taken her 10-15 seconds. I found that a bit off. All in all, decent experience in the area, but nothing in particular that blew me away.

Great Beer, Great Pub Food, Cool Place w/Great Service! This will be my must stop list anytime I am in Bellingham! I can't wait to try more of the menu! I recently had a great time here after some Mountain Biking in the area and was craving a ALL Natural Ground Beef Char-Broiled Burger with all the fixings on a Ralf's pretzel bun & your choice of roasted potatoes or salad! I had BOTH! The food and their Dry Irish Stout are SUPERB! Don't miss this place, I'd say it is even worth a field trip expedition of you like BEER even if you are not in the area. Yeah, It's that good!

Finally made it here and wasn't disappointed. It's apparently busy a lot of the time so it's not a place I'd go again if I was in a hurry. For a regular food and beer socializing experience it's a neat place to hang. Nice assortment of beers on tap probably even for people who aren't really into beer. Interesting (in a good way) menu. Parking isn't a hassle. Even if you're on I-5 just passing through Bellingham going or coming somewhere it's worth the short detour.

I love their Stout. I can't say enough good things about their Stout. But then, I also love their food. So their food coupled with the Stout is pretty much a guarantee for a good night (in my opinion). I enjoy the beef stew the most, though it could be partly because they use the Stout in making the stew...The salmon chowder is also really tasty. Their curry isn't how I would make curry, but it's still pretty good.

I found their beer to just be very meh - tried the dry irish stout and oatmeal stout. It wasn't bad, but I sure wouldn't go out of my way to drink it. Somewhat to my surprise, the food was quite delicious, however. I really enjoyed their beer beef stew, it was hearty and flavor was just perfect, couldn't have made it better myself. Tapenade was overpriced for portion (seriously it should be 5.99 not 7.99) and they should switch out that lame toast for more french bread, but the spread itself was good, fresh and tangy.

Boundary Bay is our Undisputed Champion Brew Pup. I had the summer Sottish Ale and it was darn tasty and at 8% OH content fairly strong, Pesto Salmon Sandwich was great and my Wife enjoys the veggie BLAT. The pub is busy, but is a good place so it should be busy. Almost can always Find a copy Brewers News near the free newspapers to read and have a laugh while your are waiting for your food. Keep up the good work Boundary Bay.

I have such a love-hate relationship with this place! The food here is much better than "standard brew pub" food. Very unique stuff, including: Yam enchiladas, Lamb burger, fish tacos, interesting salads, good soups. I have gone here more for the food than for the beers. Unfortunately the place is a victim of its own success... it can get insanely crowded and noisy, especially when there are live bands crammed into the bar portion. There have been times I've planned to meet people at Boundary and when we get there we're turned away because there are already more people inside than is allowed by the fire code. So - there you go, make your choice. LOVE: The food and beer. HATE battling the crowds and the noise. Best choice is to go for lunch or for early dinner on the weekends!

Love love LOVE this place! It's my favorite place to go in Bellingham! The food is awesome, the beer is awesome, their happy hour is awesome.... it's all awesome. I have dreams about their scotch ale and happy hour hot wings. But be forewarned, get a table for dinner in this place is difficult any night of the week. They will be expanding soon and I REALLY hope they extend the bar and pub area seating. The beer garden is a lot of fun in the summer, with a stage for live music, hula hoops for the kids, and an outdoor BBQ. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because they need to have some sort of french fries as a side option. I adore their french dip, and actually all of their sandwiches are delicious, but a french dip and a beer should not be accompanied by a salad or potato chips. I need fries!! Other than that, I love this place and highly recommend it!

Not bad, not outstandingly memorable. Food options range from sandwiches to entrees (overpriced for their size IMHO) to salads. Descriptions were pretty enticing, but the execution on our orders varied. Fish tacos were a win, as was the salmon sandwich. Chicken entree, not so much. I'm not a beer fan, but had hoped to try the local Mt. Baker wine on the menu. It was not available, so the server assumed I'd take another white wine, which I thought was odd - and it wasn't something I wanted. The beer drinkers in our group liked theirs, especially the darker brews. It seems to be a popular place midweek, especially the outdoor beer garden, which is kid friendly. Had we realized that I think we'd have chosen that over sitting inside.

If you plan your visit to Boundary Bay, you can sit immediately in either the dining side or the bar side of the restaurant. The food is always fantastic (my families favorites are the Mac & Cheese and the Spicy Chicken Soup), as well as the beer! This place defines the Bellingham culture.

We arrived at BBB&B at about 6:15 and were told there was a 25 minute wait or we could sit in the bar (there was clearly a long wait for those seats too and possibly a wrestling match as well since there was no way to tell who had been waiting the longest for seats). We finally got a seat in the bar at the same time our hand-held-disco-buzzer started flashing that our table was ready in the main dining room. We decided to stay in our hard won bar seats for dinner. I ordered the winter ale (an impulse since I am not really a beer drinker and can't really tell you if it was good or not. I drank most of it). My friend ordered the beer sampler, I tried each of the beers he got too and particularly liked the ESB and oatmeal stout. With our beer we tried the smoked salmon chowder and the ralph's pretzel. The chowder was very good although less smokey than I expected. The pretzel was the stand-out item of the whole meal. Served with a side of grain mustard, it was really great! For dinner I had the yam alechiladas. I was really excited about this choice and a fellow yelpster had quick tipped about their worthiness. I was moderately disappointed with the outcome. The menu described them as yams with grilled onions and jack and cheddar cheeses. I was expecting something with texture but instead got enchiladas filled with bland yam paste. The rice and bean sides were also bland, under salted and with way too much cumin in the black beans. My friends fish tacos were similarly bland. All and all, hot sauce saved the day and made everything palatable. Don't get me wrong. The food was fresh and reasonably well made, just lacking a bit in the flavor department. It was inspired enough to give my friend (who is, himself a chef) the idea to try to make the yam enchiladas of my fantasy, and I bet they will be great!

One of my all time favorite breweries I have ever been to. It seems that almost anywhere I travel to and wear my Boundary Bay Sweatshirt, someone approaches me to tell me they have been here, and that they love the beer! Keep up the great beer! SAVE THE ALES FOR LIFE!

Boundary Bay has been a mainstay for Bellinghamsters for years, but sometimes we take this wonderful microbrewery and restaurant for granted. Our most recent visit (a couple of weeks ago) was prompted by a note on Facebook from a friend in Boston who wanted me to know that a friend of his "was performing at a place called Boundary Bay". My friend hoped I knew where it was and could get over there to see her! Well, of course, I DID know where Boundary Bay was and I DID go over to hear her... The result: Great music, great food, friendly service, a wonderful evening, and a reminder not to take Boundary Bay for granted!

My partner loves beer and says it's the best in town so we go occasionally. I would prefer to never go again but I love to see my man happy. Since I don't drink beer I will cover the rest. I consider myself a Bellingham native and BBB seems to be a local favorite. If you are extremely patient and don't mind waiting 30-40 minutes for your food, then it can be worth the wait. The Lamb Burger is wonderful. The service is sub-par because they think they are so the sh*t that they don't have to do anything if they don't want to. It is always packed to the walls with people and unruly kids. It is very loud so don't expect a nice conversation. Some nights they have live music so be sure to check before you go or you will definitely not be able to hear a thing. The usual patrons of the BBB tend to be yuppies and snobby, reflecting the attitude of the waitstaff. If you can, go for lunch during the week for faster service and a more peaceful experience.

Good Beer. Eh... Food um... well, I can't honestly tell you the last time i came here for food. I come here for the beer. Because It's good. I ask for whatever is darkest on tap and I am always satisfied It gets packed. When i want to drink here i get in early and leave early.

Great place, great beer, every place that makes their own beer needs to have a sampler, none that i know of here in Vancouver do. Loved the beer beef stu, roast potatoes were really good and LOVED the prettzel bun on the burger, and very good prices,, the only thing holding this place back from 5 stars is the burger pattie was obviously a pre made frozen pattie, butcher/farm or not. Will defintely be going back, just not for the. burger.

My favorite brewery in Bellingham. I love their trivia night, reggae night and their beer in general. My two favorites are the Scotch Ale and the IPA. Their Blonde is pretty good, for a light beer. They have great indoor and outdoor seating and can accommodate large groups easily (just make a reservation!) Food is wonderful too.

A Bellingham Icon. What can I say, it's an above average brewpub. The beers are mostly very good, although the line-up is pretty generic. The food is usually very good as well, although I have been disappointed a couple times over the years. It's a good place for a first date or to start up a night out on the town. Prices are quit good. The service has always been very good. One word of warning though, sit in the bar section, as it tends to get a little loud and hectic elsewhere, especially during dinner hours and on the weekend.

Coming back from our Canada trip, and needed a place for lunch. Parked in downtown Bellingham, opened up Mobile Yelp, and this place sounds perfect. They had a good selection of seasonal beers, but the wife orders the IPA, and I got really jealous; it was well balanced, hoppy as all get out, and nearly perfect. I ordered the dunkel which was good as well. The food was spot on. The kids had the homemade mac and cheese, which disappeared as quickly as it made it the table. The wife had a burger, which she loved, and I had the spinach salad with goat cheese and pecans, which really hit the spot. One of the best parts of this place is the building. We ate outside on the patio, right next to this beautiful garden. Looks like the perfect spot for music, and given it was a warm summer day, we cold have stayed there for a long time.

Yep, it's good! Get the beer sampler before you settle on anything, it's worth trying their whole range.

The IPA and ESB are solid. Delicious! The food was good also, tried the mac and cheese (yum), the sliders and a BLT using local bacon. They have a real dedication to local ingredients. The service was really good ( kind, attentive, informative) - so I guess we got lucky :). Really a delightful spot for lunch amidst the sometimes overly "squeaky clean" image Bellingham seems to exude.

I was kind of skeptical when we walked in, because usually, in my opinion brewery food is mediocre. But, um... it was really good here. They make pretzels here, I don't mean they heat them up, they MAKE THEM! I don't think it's rocket science, but I love the effort! ... and the harvest salad was big enough for two of us to share, so we did. Cool room, good groove and really good, genuine, friendly service. Oh, and the beer was delicious...

I've been here twice and both times were very good experiences. I took away one star because the last time I went my twin sister and I both felt our deserts were rather lackluster. But the yam alechiladas are fantastic, I highly reccomend them to anyone who likes to try new things!

Boundary Bay Brewery and Bistro is my second home. Their beer has spoiled me for life--all others pale (pun intended, dammit) in comparison. Even if I'm out of town and have a choice of a hundred brews, if BB IPA is on tap, I will order it--I've tried many (many, many) IPAs, brewed on the west coast, east coast, north and south, and there is no better. And I'm a little distressed at the reviewers who didn't try the beer. It is a brewery. Drink the beer. If you don't, you are wasting a huge opportunity in your very short life. C'mon, it won't hurt a bit. Perhaps the reason you don't drink beer is because you haven't had good beer? I'm just sayin'. Boundary Bay's Scotch Ale is quite popular, and good, if a little sweet for my taste. The ESB (extra special bitter) is sublime. The Oatmeal and Dry Irish Stouts are amazing. The Bellingham Blonde is for lightweights and I am not one of those. The Imperial IPA should be illegal. The seasonal brews are usually quite good. They do a single hop series and a pilsner in the summer that is quite nice. Now for the food. Like I said, this is a second home and I eat here at least once a week. For variety, I give BB an A+++++. We bring literally each and every visitor (and when you live in Bellingham, you have lots of them) to BB and we've never had a disappointment. Meat eaters are always happy, as are our fellow vegetarians. The menu is local-oriented and organic/sustainable/local produce, meat, tofu, and salmon is the just way they do things here. For that, I love BB. For vegetarians, it is a gem of a restaurant. I love that they take care of us while keeping the meatheads happy, too. Believe me, it is pure joy to be able to ask for tofu on your salad instead of chicken and not be considered a whack job. And how many restaurant menus offer a tofu sandwich and a tempeh Reuben? Are you kidding me? It's heaven. The appetizers are many, from hummus to tapenade to nachos the size of a basketball (not the best nachos in the world, btw). There are two soups on the menu: salmon chowder and a spicy chicken something that wins rave reviews. There is a soup of the day that is often vegetarian (and when it's not, I get cranky) and it is usually delicious. They don't fry anything, so most of the food is simple and healthy. With sandwiches, you get potatoes or salad as your side. There are sandwiches, fish tacos (that you can order with tofu instead, yippee), mac and cheese (a 7 on a 1-10 scale), a Thai rice bowl, amazing yam ale-chiladas, a burrito, and a more upscale dinner menu featuring reefnet-caught (google it, great story) salmon, along with locally made ravioli and a portabello and mashed yukon gold taters dinner. And so much more! Like I said, for variety you simply cannot beat it. The tap room is always crowded these days, unless you're a lucky bastard who can get off work before 5. It is loud. Always loud. But relaxed and casual, just like Bellingham. The service is fast and efficient, and mostly friendly. We've had a couple of favorite servers who aren't there anymore and I will say that the current batch is not as friendly as they could be. The bistro is the quieter area, but still bustling, busy and filled with laughter (the beer helps) and conversation. I prefer the tap room's atmosphere myself, but having to wait for a table in there really chaps my ass. And that, sadly, has become the norm. I give Boundary Bay four stars for the quality of the beer, the variety of the menu, and the generous vegetarian options. The recent (over the past year or so) inconsistency in food quality kept me from giving them a five. But there are five stars in your review, I hear you saying. And that is correct. BB's commitment to the community makes up that fifth star. On most spring-through-fall weekends you will find this or that organization's fundraiser being held in the Beer Garden. You will find BB's name on the list of many non-profit's "thank you" lists. You will find Janet, the GM, working behind the scenes to keep local music thriving by giving a wide variety of musicians a stage. And by being part of the Boundary Bay scene, you will know what it means to be a part of the Bellingham community.

Do you enjoy beer? Do you enjoy good food with a fun, social atmosphere? Do you long for an extremely robust selection of beards and mustaches for your viewing pleasure? If you answered yes to any, or all of the above questions, this place is for you! While I lived in Bellingham I didn't go to Boundary Bay all that often, but it was a real treat when I did. The beer was always great, the staff always had that "buy local" vibe you get when you walk into the food co-op or shop for produce at Joe's Garden. The restaurant portion of the building (which is very cool and rustic looking) is a decent place to take kids or those pesky under-21 friends to have a good lunch/dinner. There is plenty of seating, depending on the size of your group and the time of day you are coming. The bar is generally pretty full in the evenings, so don't expect to find seating for your group of 8 at 10pm on a Friday.

Vegan and vegetarian options. Irish stout is quite tasty and I was told that the scotch beer was also good. Entrees range from $8-20 but there are reasonably priced lunch options which can be ordered all day. Service was friendly and prompt.

Boudary bay is the place you bring visitors and newbies to Bellingham. Its the go to spot when you just dont know where to eat or your looking for a good place to meet a few friends for a quick beer and appetizer. They have the best nachos in town. But all in all its the place you go to get your fix for homemade Mac-n-cheese. I promise you will not be dissapointed. they also have amazing clams and they are kind enough to load you up on bread to soak up the amazing sauce that the clams are made in. We come for a beer sometimes we come for the food every week. I haven't found one thing I don't like on their menu. But boundary is smart about what they do. They have taken signigture menu items and perfected them. The only reason I give good old Boundary Bay a 4 star instead of a 5 is it gets loud and crowded. but the service is always friendly even when there is a 50 minute wait for the dining room and a 30 minute wait for the bar.

We've eaten here a few times and have enjoyed the food every time. The beef stew is my hubby's favorite. The staff is always friendly and when you ask for their recipe they share it freely! However, the binder only includes the ingredients and fails to show you the measurements. I guess that just means more fun in the kitchen!

Great food, great beers! I joined yelp just to say how great this place is. Stopped there during the summer, sitting outside drinking great beer and eating yummy fish tacos! Brought a bunch of guys there on the way home from a Seahawks game and it was a big success. We sampled many of the beers and all were fantastic. Only knock against the place is the pulled pork, usually a safe and delicious bet, not the best choice. Was a little soggy and the sauce wasn't great.

Boy oh boy, do I love this place. I've been here only twice, with both experiences really good. But today's experience was awesome. I came here for a late lunch with my mom, sister, and brother-in-law. I decided to order the yellow curry, and was more than pleasantly surprised. The entire meal was tasty. I do wish that there was a little more sauce for my rice, but other than that, the dish was amazing. However, these five stars are not for my meal alone. My mom ordered the Mac and Cheese. Holy crap! The best mac and cheese I've ever had...seriously. They use several types of cheese and make the top all crusty, so the difference in textures is great. Oh man, I want some more. My brother-in-law ordered a burger, which he order with Chev cheese. I never thought that I'd like goat cheese, but wow, that was some good stuff. The food came out quickly, our server was pleasant and attentive, and we left full and content...great experience. My sister and her husband come here often, claiming that there are some servers who don't really give a crap that you're there. In fact, som treat you like you're imposing on them with your presence...I even found out what a "See you next Tuesday" means (choosing not to use the correct letters for the acronym), as she used this to describe one of the servers they hate. I've fortunately not had such an experience in my limited visits here. Whenever I come back to Bellingham, I'll definitely want to come back to get me some more curry and mac 'n cheese!

A historic building turned into a modern day wherehouse bistro brewery. I really dig this space. Nice spacious bar area with tvs, where they also have live music, and then a separate dining area. For me this was this was probably top 2 chowders i've had in Washington and of course great beers and great people!

I had heard of BBB&B through Yelp and I'm pretty sure I've seen a few of their beers on tap here and there. I'm sure glad I remembered it was there so that on a recent trip to Vancouver it would be a great dinner stop on the way home to Seattle. I went with the lamb burger, which didn't really have that great of a flavor (might as well of have been beef) but for $8.99 I wasn't really complaining that much. Also opted the salad instead of chips or fries and their house dressing was great and the side salad was pretty sizable. Plenty of great beers here. This place was definitely alive and jumping on Friday night and they even had some unique artwork throughout the restaurant that was by local artists for sale. The crowd seemed like a mix of families and college aged (or minded) people. Outside they had some interesting salmon festival going on, which I'll have to check out next summer. Great beers, can't wait to stop by here again.

To begin with, the beer is brewed here (hence the name)! They have a incredible beer sampler, which consists of an array of Nine of the beers that they brew there. Definitely a recommendation if you are in for a fun night! It's soo good, but definitely will get you tipsy (great to share if you are a lightweight). I love the atmosphere, but I suppose I am bias due to the fact that I went to school at Western. Fantastic food! My cousin hates mushrooms, and he ordered their Philly cheese steak sandwich and fell in love! Little did he know there is no meat, it's Portabella Mushroom! It's so good! Has a great kick to it too! I would say that it is an essential if you are in the good 'ol city of Bellingham!

I always end up going here for lunch when in Bellingham. I like the vegan BLAT (and I'm happy that this place has a couple veg options), but it's overpriced for what it is. The atmosphere and service are nice, and it's especially pleasant to have a leisurely meal outside on their deck on a nice day. It would be great if they brewed at least one beer without intense hops. The Bellingham Blonde is the only one I can really tolerate.

This place was nice I had the prime rib and came with the soup to dip it in, the aus jus. I got it for an extra dollar with Swiss cheese and that was really good. I'd recommend this place but I felt their non drinking area wasnt looked after quite so steadily. But the food was good and the servers friendly enough, good meal.

  • Megan R.

This is a good place to go if you're looking for dinner, appetizers, lunch or just a beer with friends! Their food is good, but their beer is better! The sampler is where it's at and you get almost 1.5 pints of beer with the sampler! The Mac n' Cheese is where it's at. If you are going for lunch, split it and get a beer! You can't go wrong. They also have amazing deserts. The servers are usually great, and they are nice at accommodating big groups of people. I would put it a notch above the Ram.

This is my favorite spot in Bellingham to grab a quick bite to eat - especially during Happy Hour. No need to mention how tasty their beer is (I suggest the Scotch Ale); it's a Bellingham classic. The food though, the food! My favorite is the BLAT (Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado, & Tomato); a crispy, savory, delicious sandwich that always satisfies my cravings. Their Mac & Cheese is also one of my favorites; only $2 during Happy Hour! Sometimes you have to wait a long time to sit down and get your food, but it's (usually) worth the wait.

I had the chance to stop in here for dinner and a couple brews while on a business trip, and it was a fantastic experience. While waiting for a table the group I was there with were treated to some good heel-stompin' live bluegrass music in their outdoor beer garden (a true garden, unlike some). Dinner was an excellent smoked salmon chowder, a great mixed green salad, and a couple pints (the Scotch Ale and the Dry Irish Stout). It was very busy, so we did have to wait a bit for a table, but given that there was an event going on that night I don't really fault them. Their beers tend to be potent, so keep an eye on their abv ratings and consume with caution! Also, supposedly they serve more beer by volume than any other brew pub in the country (unconfirmed by yours truly). Bonus points for faxing me a copy of my receipt when I needed it for an expense report and lost my own copy.

Consistently the WORST service I have had in just about any restaurant I have ever eaten in. I have been here more than once, only went back because I was with friends that insisted on going here, they would not listen..but were very sorry they did not. They thought I could not be serious about how bad the service is here. PS one star IS TOO HIGH A RATING!!!!!

Since this place was all esspensive and stuff when I went to school up here (a college student's budget is truly ugly) we only went here on really special occasions and chowed down on all the free pretzels and mustard we could get our little co-ed hands on! Now that I'm a grown up (still paying off those damn student loans) I can actually afford to get a pint of some of the best beer in all of the Northwest at Boundary Bay Brewery. The amber has always been my favorite from these guys - it has a bit more complexity to it than most ambers and tends to make me feel buzzed within the first couple of sips (maybe I should have thought of this in college) and the imperial IPA was served in its own little cute cup but seemed to pack quite a punch! It was damn busy in here at 7ish on a Saturday night. We totally had to fight for a table and ended up perched on a couple of bar stools next to some nice and respectable drunken locals who were talking about the price of pot in a very serious manner. Good ol' Bellingham!

Freshly made pretzels dipped in salt, creamy sauce with fresh clams and vegetables, beer based chowder- does it get any better? The beer is quite tasty- my only gripe- no pitchers! This does encourage you to order different selections though. The atmosphere is what you would imagine for a brew house and the wait staff was nice. I will surely be eating here again.

I love this place. The atmosphere is fantastic, and I live for the margarita pizza and Mac & cheese. Summers in the beer garden are delightful and the house root beer is awesome! Gets a bit crowded on Fridays and Saturday nights but totally worth the wait.

I am an Alum of WWU and this is THE place to go for the best beer and some fantastic food. My favorite beer, for all you dark beer lovers out there it really doesn't get better then the Imperial Oatmeal Stout with it's luscious dark chocolate undertones and at over 9% alcohol it's bound to be a good time! Also highly recommendable is the sampler of beer (mini beer tasters that will surely get you tipsy and more educated!) and my personal favorites being the salmon pesto sandwich, salmon chowder and if you like Mac n'Cheese this is YOUR place. Check it out!

What a terrific little spot. We sampled all of the house brews, all were unique and good. The service was fast and friendly. The food was good as well. The beef stew was tasty, the yam enchiladas were great and the meatloaf MUCH better than mom ever made! Stop here for great food at a more than fair price.

and then God created this place... The varieties of beer brewed here are decisively distinct, strong in flavor and in buzz, and most important of all - palatable and delicious. The food is at a level nearly equivalent to the beer, where in my many forays into this place have never been less than great. Cool building as well, that can get crowded and noisy at times, but hey - it's a brewery. Besides the 9 months when it's raining - the outside area is lovely as well. If you decide to try the sampler - get ready to see what living really is.

I guess this place is very popular judging by the number of people waiting the reviews, but the food is indeed marginal and the waitstaff is lackadaisical at best. Our party of 4 must have waited at least 45 minutes to get our food, and when it arrived, it was lukewarm. Had it been hot, it would have been tasty, but overall the whole experience makes me disinclined to return.

Five stars for the Scotch Ale, zero stars for the food (they don't have a fryer). Love the outdoor garden, the contra dancing. This pub is so hip, one of a kind, world famous. Ahh, the memories. I really miss this place...when will you open a sister store in Portland?!?!

I was in B'ham this weekend to visit family and race in an early triathlon sponsored by the WWU cycling team. My Dad was rather curious that I had a specific place I wanted to eat. "Why do you want to go there?" he asked, knowing I don't drink beer, and generally prefer ethnic food. "Because YELP says it's all that," I replied. It was yummy. The aforementioned feta stuffed chicken is delicious, though I had second thoughts pounding down Garden Street this morning. On a busy Saturday night we were well attended to. A shared slice of chocolate cheesecake with horrible decaf was a fine ending to a fine meal, and only added another minute or two to my finish time.

Boundary Bay Brewery & Bistro has been a family favorite for ages. Their sweatshirt, which says "Save the Ales" on the back, is known as the unofficial uniform of Bellingham. Highly recommended are both their IPA and their Cabin Fever seasonal beer - but everything's good. If it's your first time, you should get the beer sampler for a taste of everything. As far as food goes, I like anything with salmon. And their margherita pizza. And the bruschetta. And the Northwest salad. You really can't go wrong here. They often feature live music, but even when they don't it's a noisy place, so don't expect to have an intimate conversation. The beer garden is delightful in the summer though. If you're going to eat in one place in Bellingham, make it Boundary Bay.

  • chris d.

I'm really not a fan of Boundary Bay. Firstly, and certainly most importantly, nearly all of their beers are really really hoppy. I'm okay with hoppy beer from time to time, but ordering a sampler of their beer is the hops equivalent of ordering a salt lick. Most of their beers varieties just aren't that great. There is one beer on the list that's pretty good...the scotch ale, but that's pretty much it. The food is really over-priced. They've deviated from standard pub fare to a more esoteric menu. It's okay, but not really my thing. The second worst aspect of that place is the live bluegrass music. The last time I was there, I was sitting drinking mediocre beer with some friends, just having a conversation, then some lame ass, hippy bluegrass shit band started playing and I couldn't hear my friends over crappy banjo music not popular in the last century. Then some ass-hat came around and told us that we had to pay an extra $2 since the band showed up. I asked him "Can you just take them back where they came from?" Unamused. So that was that. The last time I stepped into boundary. Failure at brewing is really unacceptable for a brewery. I know it closed a long time ago, but the Orchard St. Brewery had much better beer. It just wasn't that easy to find and was way further from the University campus. I guess feeding crappy beer to students is still a good model for success.

Known across the far-reaches of the known Universe for their ridiculously strong and tasty beer, Boundary Bay also has excellent food. Hardly classified as "pub fare", the menu at Boundary has a wide variety of tasty choices, made up largely of local and organic ingredients. This isn't hippie food- it tastes really good! Start with the hummus plate...and definitely try the Yam-alechilada, regardless of how hard it is to pronounce. ("yam-ale-chill-ada") Don't forget the Oatmeal Stout! Follow them on Twitter for updates on beer selections and events.

I had dinner and the beer sampler last night. My meal was their feta-stuffed chicken breast with a mandarin orange and tarragon sauce, with mashed Yukon Gold potatoes and whole steamed green beans. It was tasty, but not exceptional. The beer, though! The beer was fabulous. I'm not, normally, a stout or porter fan. In this case, their Imperial Oatmeal Stout is the smoothest stout I've ever had. It was far and away my favorite of the sampler set. The middle color beers (ESB/IPA) were my least favorite, with their Amber Ale, Scotch, and the Stout leading the list.

  • Megan M.

Definitely one of the best places I've eaten in B-ham. Most of the food is real good. We've tried several of their menu items and probably my favorite was the beef stew - it comes with a buttermilk biscuit! Yum. The other soups are good too. Don't have the fish tacos - they were just OK. I like going to Boundary Bay because you can just go have a seat at a table in the bar and then someone comes to serve you food and/or drinks within just a few minutes. You don't have to wait to eat in the main restaurant area. The beer's good - although I'm not a big beer connoisseur!

This great spot in downtown Bellingham has it all - cool space, outdoor deck, and outdoor beer garden. Plus, one of my favorite IPAs. The staff is always friendly so grab a deck of cards and head in for a few pints or fill a growler to take home.

  • D. W.

Good Brews! Very nice selection, and you can get your growler refilled, too! Good food - kinda pub-foodish, but better. Good salads, chowder, pizza. Nice waitstaff. Kinda loud in the evenings, but sometimes that's just the ticket, you know? Great outdoor seating in the summer under canopies and on deck. Lots of room for groups (great cycling destination for organized rides!) Free WiFi, too!

Here's the deal with Boundary bay, the beer here is world class. They have the awards on the wall to prove it. This is the #1 reason to visit this wonderful establishment. The Tap Room (the 21 and older section) feels like a Tap Room in Bellingham is supposed to feel like. Dark wood floors, tables, benches and chairs as stout as their beer, a jib sheet hangs from the ceiling with a few bicycles perched atop a ledge or two. Come early in the day for a relaxed vibe. In the evening the place is rather full. They have live music only occasionally but everyone's conversations make the space a bit on the loud side. It's a good, fun sort of noise though. To say the food is nothing special isn't telling the whole story. They have a lamb burger there that is quite good for example. So yea, it's a burger so how special can that be? So in that regard yea their food is nothing special. Pair any of their menu items with a beer however and you certainly have something very, very special. These guys make hand crafted beers that pack a lot of flavor in the glass. Maybe to some they'll think they are just bitter, but regardless of your beer preferences you can't deny that Boundary Bay creates some of the best examples of various brews anywhere.

    (5)
  • Rachel S.

This place inside is larger than it looks from the street - and it's always packed. Get the flight of 6 of their original beers WITH the fresh soft pretzels (they serve it with some kick-ass whole-grain mustard).

  • Taylor K.

Save the Ales! Great food and beer...outside seating/beer garden is amazing.

  • Deirdre M.

The beer here is amazing, however I prefer to get it to go (growler style) than sit and stay. The service is always sub par and the food inconsistent.

  • Brooke E.

First, let me say that we don't drink beer but we love going to Boundary Bay for the great food! I get the feta stuffed chicken breasts in a tarragon mandarin orange cream sauce. It's my absolute favorite! My husband gets a steak with yukon gold mashed potatoes. Great kids menu and is so loud in there that no one will notice if you're child is upset. Depending on your server, they sometimes bring the kids fruit and bread when they come to take your order.

    (5)
  • Megan H.

Great place, the ambiance is relaxed and friendly. The kind of place you would chow down after a day of hiking or snowboarding. It's a brewery so you have all the normal pub food, burgers, fries, pretzels. I hear their lamb burger is amazing. I wish they would bring back the pretzel buns at least as an option. There are quite a few vegetarian options including some yam enchiladas that always sound amazing, grilled cheese, tempeh. The salad selection is great with nice portion sizes. And of course, the beer!

    (4)
  • Lovey G.

Awesome beer, inconsistent food. Even the menu items that have been there for years lack consistency. They used to have fabulous vegetarian options (oh, the dreams of the tofu thai wrap or the tofu cheese steak) but alas a menu change took them away. Still offers vegi options just nothing that "wows". Again, great beer, great atmosphere, typical bham service, think cashiers at the co-op.

  • Vlad K.

I know I'm weird but I do not understand the love of Boundary. I first went here because of all the rave reviews by friends but felt I was the subject of some sort of peer pressure experiment or a practical joke. The food is alright and the beer is nothing special. Boundary does a good job at making sure you know they are a buy local and green type of place and I think the good feelings that overflow from that mask the mediocre food and drink. I have tried just about all the beers and have eaten there numerous times so I'm not a hater I still just don't get it.

My friends and I always stop here on our way home from any trip north of Seattle. If you love a good microbrew, you must stop here. Their nachos are amazing and I recently had their mac and cheese, which was some of the best I have ever had.

Good beer and good food. I can't complain. The wait staff could have been a bit more friendly, but I will cut her some slack...she was the only waitress in the bar and it was pretty crowded.

So I have some much needed downtime over here in Iraq, and I got to daydreamin' about coming home, and one of the first things I want is Boundary Bay! The IPA stole my heart when I moved to the B-hamptons a few years ago, but I haven't had a beer here I couldn't get along with. The food is good, and the service is fine, but it's the beer that "had me at hello." This place is fun to take a few friends and hang out or just get a growler or bladder to take home for the game. Save the Ales! (Yes, I bought the shirt too)

bro had the salmon burger with potatoes on the side. he said the burger was good (a bit small for the price though). the potatoes were bland. i had nachos, which were not bad. chips were really good, the beans i couldve done without, but thats just me. had their chowder, which was actually really good. but.. our server was surly. it was obvious she did not like where was at the moment. she talked nicely and said things nicely but her face said it all. she was not happy. no smiles, no nothing. kind of ruined the otherwise pleasant experience.

I really try to like this place. The IPA is excellent, and the sweatshirts, etc. are obviously quite popular; but the food and the service are usually a let down, and the menu is overpriced for the quality of the food. Tonight I ordered the baked brie. It came out warm, but not soft and melted, so I sent it back. I've been a server in Seattle for years, and I believe that if something is prepared improperly, the kitchen deserves a chance to correct it. Instead, the waitress seemed indifferent when I sent it back, so when she returned I apologized for having been inconvenient for her. She responded by telling me that the kitchen had to start over from scratch and that they couldn't put something back in the oven after it had been served. Again, I've been in the industry for years; that is not a health department rule. The rule is that you can't serve something to one table and then take the item back and serve it to a different table. The replacement brie was burned on the outside and still undercooked on the inside; and she never checked back to see how we were doing. In addition, when she did return, it was to clear our plates (while we were still eating), and to drop the check (without asking if we were done). Unfortunately, I was not surprised by this experience. The place is consistently a let down in the food and service department. Go for the beer, but go somewhere else if you're hungry.

The food is better than most 'brewery' food, imo. I had the yam-chiladas, and they were pretty tasty. Nice atmosphere, live music wasn't too loud, and I've heard great things about the beer. Sadly, I am staying from the gluten these days, so I abstained on that particular eve. My friends who live in Bellingham took me there one of my first nights here, so that tells you something about the place: it's local and gives you an impression of what draws a lot of people to live in -- and visit -- Bellingham. Don't go for the food alone, but you're likely to be more than satisfied with what's placed in front of you. ***Well, have been back a few times since I wrote this, with mixed results. The guacamole is way too salty, and the halibut tostada was just so-so -- the fish was good, but the salad uninspired.

My absolute favorite place to eat and drink!! I just moved to san diego and oh how i miss boundary bay! The IPA and Scotch are my faves as well as the lamb burger, roasted red pepper chicken soup and house salad. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. It was always a good time to go on wednesday nights to hang out in the beer garden and see all of your friends

I don't really get why other people love this place so much. Maybe it's partially because I don't like beer, and their food really isn't all that great and is kind of pricy. I have gotten their feta-stuffed chicken breast with a mandarin orange and tarragon sauce, with mashed Yukon Gold potatoes and whole steamed green beans. Its good, but I just wasn't blown away. Their salads are also just normal. The service is also not all that great, sometimes it takes awhile for your server to get back. Last time I went there were some little children running and screaming around, and banging into the back of my chair the whole meal (!!!) and no one said or did anything about it. I was very unimpressed by that, and then even more so when I started to think that these children belonged to one of the servers.

Had a nice lunch here after spending a great night at the Chrysalis. Four stars for the beer and three for the food. Had the beer sampler. All six were good. I asked for some crackers or bread to have between beers. The waitress offered and brought a pint glass full of small pretzels and a cup of Dijon mustard. It was perfect in between the beer tasting. Liked the Scotch Ale the best and took home a 22 ounce bottle. A unique building/setting. We ate in the main room with the bar and a tall ceiling. I liked the old sails hanging from the ceiling. My wife and I both had pizza. I had the BBQ pork pizza. The crust was crisp and overall an OK pizza. Can't compare though to a CPK BBQ chicken pizza. I bought a t-shirt to take home with "Save the Ales" printed on the back.

OK OK everyone likes this place. I don't really like most of the beers, they are really hoppy and bitter. If you like pale ales,or really dark beer you will like it. The food is good, veggie friendly and the atmosphere is pretty great. The service usually sucks. But don't have them cater anything. I had my wedding reception here in the beer garden and after months of planning with them ended up getting served things I never asked for (like meat tacos instead of vegetarian!) and none of the sides I ordered. Also it was all ready to dine about 2 hours later then when we arrived. So all my guests sat around starving and filling up on beer while we waited for food that we never added to our menu and didn't get what we asked for. None of the chefs even seemed like they had an idea of what we had on our "planned" menu. They still took all the money from us at the end of the night and the manager never responded to my complaints or apologized. NICE. And I was a very laid back bride! It was disappointing to say the least for my one and only wedding. The food was the only thing that went wrong with my whole day and it was one of the only things that was important to us so we are not fond of BB.

Good fish tacos, my wife loves the Micro brews and I enjoyed the college student chaos-atmosphere - more of a dive-bar eatery than a swank 'n snobby Micro Brewery - some pricey dishes / cool "Save the Ales" T-shirts - open space format, good for groups - pretty crowed when we were there - enjoyed it and would return...

I'm ONLY commenting on the beer... I was there with a group called "Drinking Liberally" so I don't remember much, but what I DO remember is that I had large quantities of beer and it was good.

I've never had the food at Boundary Bay, though it's my sister's favorite eatery in Bellingham, but the beer and chi are primo. The beer garden, especially, can't be beat. Perfect for a northwest late summer night, Boundary Bay brings in bands from a wide variety of genres, and hanging out on Railroad is always fun. Try the "sampler." 90% of the time I run in to someone I know.

Top-notch beer, food, and experience all around. There's something about this place that makes me feel @ "home" with Bellingham again. Maybe it's all the eclectic (weird) earthy/hippie folk dancing in the beer garden, I dunno. I'd say that if a place could generally encapsulate the overall Bellingham experience, this would be it. The beer is exceptional. I like pretty much everything that they make. The food is pretty good, a decent variety for a brewery. The music seems to vary, but typically it's like sort of blue-grassy/folk type stuff. Which I'm totally down for, it fits the mood of the place. It's pretty much the opposite of the ****hole called the Depot. You can go here and actually enjoy good conversation, and your beer, without being packed like a ****ing sardine, which is how all bars should be. The seasonal beer garden is rad in the summer. The employees are alright. (It *is* okay to smile once and awhile, people. I know you make minimum wage, but you *do* work in a brewery.) All in all, it's one of my favorite places in Bellingham. Thanks for making it worthwhile to come home every once in awhile.
