It pains me to have to give any restaurant a 2 star review, but the Tokyo Steakhouse was just such a disappointment. We came for my birthday, and I thought it would be like Benihana where they make you feel so special and do such cool small things for your birthday. At Benihana, they take your photo and print it out for you on your birthday, tell everyone at the table what special occasion you are here for, make a birthday cake for you out of onion rings that smoke, sing happy birthday, and give you a special birthday dessert! At Tokyo Steakhouse the waitress was rude and seemed annoyed with us and there was no fuss or flare about my birthday. The only comment I got was from our chef, who asked me if I was going out later (ummm hello, I'm out right now, why aren't you making a fuss about my birthday????). I asked about the lunch special that they had mentioned on the web (california roll + udon for $11), the waitress told me that was really old, they hadn't had it in forever. So basically, don't go by what the website tells you as it's ancient & they don't go by it. Ended up getting the steak. I have to say the steak itself was fab, but the other veggies and stuff that came with the dish was just so-so. My friend had garlic in her dish, which did not come with her meal but came after the meal (huh?). The fire stuff was neat, but a very short part of the experience. I'm sad to say I won't be coming back, this was just too disappointing of an experience. Not even a "Happy Birthday, glad you spent it with us". The only pro is that there is free parking under the building.

Food is delicious chefs are funny and the manager is really cool. Excellent atmosphere for a date or family fun.

They get four stars for a few reasons: 1. We had a reservation for a large group on NYE and even though half of our group showed up 30 minutes late, they still held our table for us. 2. The sushi is delicious. I would especially recommend the spider roll. 3. The cooks are really creative & create a lively atmosphere that is always a good time. 4. The restaurant venue is really cool However, the teppanyaki isn't out of the ordinary so you're paying more for the price of the show and less for the food which is why it doesn't get 5 stars. Don't get me wrong, it's still great but it isn't any better or worse than any other high quality asian restaurant - pretty standard.

Every time I come here I have such a great experience. It's a little expensive- more for a night out or occasion. But what a great show and the cooks are actually Japanese ( thank god)! I've been to places where they hired Mexicans pretended to be Asian :/ anyways they always cook my steak perfect while delivering a great show. It's a great atmosphere.

Love this place to death. Me and my husband have been to this place many times and they definitely have an awesome atmosphere and the food is amazing!!! I love the rolls they have, it's good quality and never left that place dissatisfied. If you are ever in Bellevue you gotta try it out. It's a great place to go for your birthday, they are very entertaining and you can enjoy a nice fire show :) Highly recommend!!!

We had Very good experience from our first time visit there. Everyone in our family enjoyed the food and as well as the "cooking show" of tepanyaki right at our table side. My 5 year old (very) picky eater finished almost every bite of food on her plate. ;) We ordered steak, lobster, shrimp, calamari, and razor clam, all tasted really well, with the right flavor, seasoning and tenderness. Hands down one of the best Japanese restaurant in the area. Don't know why all the bad reviews are for, most of them seem to mention their competitor in downtown seattle, I have been to that one too, I think they are equally good!

This place was ALOT of fun! Celebrated my daughter's 15th birthday there & they really gave her the royal treatment. Super fun vibe, very entertaining & EXCELLENT sushi! We had a small problem with one of our sushi rolls due to a member of our party being allergic & they immediately rectified the problem & brought her a new plate. The prices were comparable to any other fancier sushi restaurant, only way more fun. I will go back next time I'm in Bellevue.

Sometimes the nice thing about being a vegetarian, is that it's really easy to order. There are like 50 things on this menu, but only one vegetarian option. So I had the tofu (minus the prawns of course). It was pretty good. The show was typical (ooooooh ... fireworks and a volcano). The chef was really funny. He formed the fried rice into "I [heart] U" because we told him we'd just gotten engaged (queue the canned "Awwwwwww" sound from the audience). So other than the fact that my coat smelled like fried food for three days after, I'd say this was a pretty standard and yummy Japanese performance restaurant experience. Also, my Midori Sour was delicious. Some bartenders can really screw that drink up.

Three of us came here for dinner on a Saturday night. We did not have a reservation and were seated right away. The service was great. The waitress did a great job making sure we had everything and that our glasses were always full. The chef was very entertaining both with his performance and conversation. The food was delicious. We ordered fried rice with shrimp and scallops. The dish had just enough flavor to it and the seafood was not dry. We also ordered both sushi and sashimi. The sashimi pieces were large and very fresh. The overall experience was great. The ambience/décor was also a hit; very trendy with nice lighting.

Delicious! Went here for our anniversary and had a wonderful time! We called ahead and made a reservation for dinner. It was right when dinner started, so the place was almost empty when we got there. We were seated immediately and we're served super quick. The cook was very entertaining and everyone at the table seemed to having a great time. The food was great. I just had the chicken, but it was cooked perfectly and just melted in my mouth. My bf loved the shrimp he got as well. It could be considered a little pricey for some but the portions were more than enough (I took enough home to make a second meal). It is a great place for a special night out. I'd definitely go there again.

I love this type of cooking... I frequent Susumu Steak House, Benihana, & Tokyo in Woodinville. Our experience here was very poor. The food was very bland the fried rice was disappointing glad they have that special orange sauce to smother everything. Our cook was not entertaining at all and this is a huge part of your experience. One of us is highly allergic to eggs and our cook had a hard time figuring that out. The location and interior is a plus.

So dissapointed! My friend let me choose a place for my birthday dinner. Not good. Food was dry and tasteless, the food preparer was boring, and the price expensive. Take this off my list, as many have since the restuarant/bar were nearly empty! Go to benehana's for the great experience!!!

I made reservations last week to celebrate my husband's birthday yesterday. The only reason I'm giving it a 2 star is because the place was beautiful and our chef was nice.. I wish I knew the serving size was good for 2 because we ordered are separate dish. Make sure you share if your not very hungry.. The food did not taste good at all I ordered chicken dish and the chef didn't even know how to cut it,he cut it in square peice, usually it should be cut thin horizontal cuts.. My husband ordered the steak, lobster dish that wasn't any tasteful has well.. The amount I'm paying for dinner I would expect it to tasteful at least but that wasn't the case.. I mite go here for lunch to give it a try one more time but differently not for dinner.. oh yeah another thing they went around our table asking who's birthday is was, that was embarrassing..

This restaurant is undervalued. It is a good food restaurant with good location in Bellevue. I tried the Teppanyaki fillet mignon, the New York steak, the shrimp and the scallops. They were all good cooked and had a smooth feel. In addition, the butterfly roll tasted so good ( although it felt like there was too much mayo on it ). Kudos to the chef for the amazing show that he gave us. This is a rare skill that not so many people can do. I would give a 5 star for the chef although the overall for the restaurant is not a five for me.

I have been here twice this year. Once for a birthday dinner, (I highly recommend that) and once as a double date. The atmosphere at this Tokyo is very different then Federal Way. This is a very hip and trendy atmosphere. I think the other Tokyo may be more family friendly. But this is a great place for dates or adults. The food is very good, it is always entertaining. Make sure that you let them know if you are celebrating a birthday so you can have the staff/drum experience. My boyfriend likes the food better at benihana, but you also pay a bit more there.

*second time here, SUPER slow service, 20 minutes to get a beer *way overpriced for what you get, should be half the cost *it IS fun to watch the theatrics

For large parties this place charges tips first and then taxes on top. It is never cool to assume your customers are idiots who won't notice. Food is decent but that "trick" with tips leaves bad taste in your mouth. Will avoid this place in the future.

A friend took me here for my birthday lunch, so I'm glad I finally got to try it. However, I was not too impressed by anything here. I have not had the chance to give the drinks a try, so maybe that would be a place of interest. I can say it's extremely good for large groups, but that's about it. Because it's not very accessible and not highly marketed, there is not much business rolling in, so service is slow. I understand the sign is facing the freeway, but there is very little information or attractiveness on their website. I come from a city where teppanyaki is common and delicious. Most restaurants' fame comes from word of mouth and nearby residents. Price is about the same back home than it is here, but the taste and show is far more impressive than what I viewed here. Even though I would not be visiting often, I am about giving every place a second try, so we will see.

Visited Tokyo Japanese Steak House for happy hour with some coworkers and invited guests a few days back. Unrelated, but I was celebrating my 3 year anniversary at the company so I decided to attend. Admittedly the Yelp reviews had me concerned because they are incredibly mixed. There does not seem to be an universal item that is a must order. Basically this restaurant is a Japanese teppanyaki spot which also offers sushi. It is comparable to Benihana. Though the decor is unlike it. The first thing that tells you this is the electronic sliding door entrance. The lighting in the lounge area makes you feel like you are in a ultralounge. Even the teppanyaki tables have lights on the side of them. Watch out for the swivel chairs in the lounge area though as they really turn when you really don't want them to. I didn't stay for the whole duration of the event as I had to start packing for my trip, but I did get a happy hour drink and food here before I did some tipsy packing. The happy hour deal (M-F 4:30-6, F-Sat 9:30-closing) is 20% off drinks and food in the lounge area. That doesn't seem like much, but it is a decent deal if you want more choices. There are some interesting drink names on the cocktail menu that I have never heard of. Names like Japanese Sex, Red Hair Slut and Buttery Nipple. And they really are real names of drinks that you can find when searching on the Internet. Who knew? Though it would have been interesting to order one of these oddly named drinks, I decided to go with the classic Singapore Sling ($5.60 HH) and an order of the Alaska roll ($5.60 HH). Singapore Sling holds up well to the version that I had on a Singapore Airlines flight last year. It is a sweet refreshing cocktail. The drink was also quite sizable. As for the Alaska roll, it was good. I like the salmon on top. The roll itself does taste more like a California roll, though that is not necessarily a bad thing. So happy hour at Tokyo was not too bad. The only thing was the vibe here was super quiet. There was hardly anyone in the place on a Wednesday late afternoon. If you wanted to bring a group here during the happy hour, I don't think you would have trouble finding seating since this place is away from the main Downtown Bellevue happy hour scene.

Went here for Mother's Day dinner. The restaurant interior is VERY contemporary and cool, which we loved! Beautiful neon lighting, sleek fixtures, clean and modern. We had reservations and were seated promptly. The waitress was friendly and attentive. My martini order was messed up twice, but the third time it was perfect (how hard is it to put it on the rocks and to hold the vermouth? Essentially, all I wanted was vodka on the rocks. I guess that was a little complex for them!). Our chef seemed rather bored to be there and didn't do any of the "tricks" that the chefs at the other stations were doing. He had zero personality (which was unfortunate, as we came with two kids who were eager to see the "cooking show"). Luckily, the chef at the adjoining station was really fun and engaging, and we watched him put flaming items on top of his chef hat and fling food in the air at the people at his table. Our guy did nothing like that. He tried to stack an onion but it wasn't working, so he left to get "a better" onion. The food itself was good and very fresh, which we loved. My steak and my daughter's was rather fatty, though, and there were fatty steak cubes that we couldn't eat. The scallops and vegetables and the fried rice were great. The prices are high, though - probably a bit too high for the amount of food you get. But if you get a good "show", then it's worth it. I'd recommend coming here for happy hour or lunch.

The vibe is great, the staff is great, the drinks are great, but the food was so-so. Definitely go to get a drink here. There is no shortage of choices and bar is very fun to hang out in. The bartender was a riot! The chef's were great and I loved their tricks, but the food needed soy sauce. I ordered the shrimp and lobster meal and I didn't see them add soy sauce to either item. My husband said his steak was lacking flavor too. Other Japanese steak houses I have been to have added soy sauce to their dishes, I guess I was expecting the same here. If I go back I'll request that they add soy sauce to my dish while cooking it.

Worst service I have ever received at a restaurant. Usually I am okay with some poor service but this one really bothered me. Had ordered a club soda and a roll with some acquaintances on a non busy week night. Got a call that I needed to leave so I asked the waitress to please bring the club soda (I was thirsty) and cancel the roll (which I had ordered two minutes beforehand) and asked for the check. She came back ten minutes later with my club soda and no check. I asked if she had my check and she responded that I still have your roll coming.... I said I canceled it with her and she had said oh I didn't realize, but it's too late. Things happen, so I said that is fine can you please have it put to go and bring the check as well as soon as possible. It took an extra twenty five minutes to get the roll and an extra fifteen minutes after that to get the check and then another ten minutes before I got my card back. This experience really left a sour taste. The roll was at best mediocre and way overpriced for the quality. Too bad I will not be coming back since it is really convenient for me and I love sushi.

Microsoft Prime 2012-2013 Some like it hot Ambience: 4 Food: 3 Value: 3 Tokyo Steakhouse is a hibachi and sushi restaurant, with a view overlooking the 520. We booked our Valentine's dinner here. Unfortunately, they don't accept Prime Card on holidays. Someone failed to inform me that this 'thing' invented by greeting card makers became an official holiday. The discount, even had it been applied, would not have been good. Lunch is definitely the better time to come. The ambience is pretty nice, adorned with an indoor electric neon purple tree. Overall, it seemed overpriced and not a good value. Though if you've never experience hibachi, it is worth a visit.

This place is amazing! It is beautiful and the workers are great. Our chef is always really good and entertaining with fire tricks. We go there for our girls night. The portions are really big so 2 people can share a plate. Theyre always flexible bc usually some of us are late, & we like to wait for eachother to order. The bartender is good, and she gives us suggestions since we can be indecisive.

Great service, food was above average. I had sth similar in hawaii, it was much more expensive and a lot smaller portion. I ordered a Toro sashimi, for two pieces it was $15, most expensive i had so far, quality was all right, does not worth the price. Ordered ninja cocktail, tasted like sex on the beach, nothing really special. But food portion was big, show was entertaining. Would consider going back again and recommend to others.

Went there for the first time couple weeks ago. Atmosphere is okay but could have been a lot better. They obviously put a lot of money into decoration but missed the point. Cook was kind but he accidently spilled soy sauce on my party. He apologized and restaurant gave me a discount and a free drink. Food tasted average but I was impressed by the knife wielding show by the cook. Display of big fire was great too. It's kind of awkward to sit with strangers and the cook didn't say anything to make it better. Idea is great but execution is poor.

I love teppanyaki. These folks seem to be just going through the motions. Uninspired experience at the grill. Ordered sushi as an appetizer & it came very late in the process. Slow service except for presenting the bill. Disappointing. Bathrooms unclean

I was very excited about this restaurant as there are too few tepannyaki places in Seattle and i never been to any here. Don't get me wrong, The restaurant is nice, very trendy and located in awesome location however the food and service were really disappointing!! We ordered 2 teppanyaki entree (Kobe filet mignon/shrimp + Lobster/Calamari) and one dragon roll. The roll was average. The eel pieces on top of the roll was too thin. The kobe steak was just ok and lack of marbling. It was the most tastless Kobe/Wagyu i have ever had. The seafood stuff was also average. The fried rice and vegetables were lack of salt. I can only say the food serving size was fine just overall not enough salt/seasoning and the tepannyaki sauce was nothing special. Price isn't too bad for teppanyaki honestly it was alot cheaper compared with our last two in Las Vegas. However, the last two were way too good: top quality cut of meat and fresh ingredients. Not to mention the chef cooked the steak first and then the fried rice. We were stuffed at that time but it was too bad not to finish all the food. Service was suprisingly bad. The host was absolutely unwilling to give me a table until all my fiance was there but he also didn't offer me a place to sit by the bar (sigh). When we were ready to leave, the server just dropped the bill in front of us and `want to meet us in the front' to pay??? If they want to charge patrons $4/pp for fried rice surcharge and $3/pp for green tea, i don't think it is too much to bring the tab & credit card receipt to us at the table. Bottom line: Go there if you never been to any teppanyaki, otherwise save yourself a trip. I really wish the restaurant can cut down the teppanyaki chef show (way too much and became annoying) and focus more on the food & service. I prefer a real unforgetable nice teppanyaki in Vegas than a mulitple low end BBQ in Bellevue!

I don't know what is more entertaining, watching the fire works in front of you as the chief cooks your dinner or watching other people's reaction to the fire. Dinner was fun but not a great place to have a conversation as the grills made the whole place seems loud. Our server got our orders mixed up and someone eles's food was delivered to our table instead. However, they seem somewhat friendly. The food was a bit greasy for me as there are a lot of oil and "butter-fly".

Wow I'm surprised @ all the bad reviews. I was surprisingly impressed - the restaurant's huge, the decor's super nice, and the food was really good. I thought it was better than Benihana. We both had filet and lobster, and the filet was top notch. The meals came with 2 sides of veggies, rice, and 2 pieces of shrimp. I thought everything tasted great, it was all like your good ole teppenyaki. I only knock off a star cos they forgot to give us our salad, which is kinda weird. The place was so busy and everyone was having a good time. The chef was fine too with his tricks. I'll def come back, esp cos it's so convenient.

  • Yekta A.

I was once a Benihana fan until I cam here, now I'm a fan here! the food is better, it is more spacious and the chefs a lot funnier! You've gotta make the trip out to Bellevue for this place!

You pay for the experience of a chef cooking in front of you. For ~$25/person for teppanyaki, what you're really paying for is the experience of the chef cooking and entertaining you with your food in front of you. The food comes out by course, so your veggies first, then your meat, then your sides. I much prefer my food all together, rather than eating a plate full of bean sprouts. Meh. I went a couple weeks ago with some friends and we used the 20% discount the restaurant was offering on their website, but even with that discount, it's not very good at all - still vastly overpriced. I ordered seared ahi tuna, and it came out med-rare and very fishy. Not sure if that was the food quality or the chef's cooking fault. Either way, I couldn't eat any of my ahi, what a waste! When we first arrived, the bartender got my drink wrong twice, annoying. And the BF ordered some beer, they brought it to him in a chilled plastic mug. Half-way through his beer, it was all slush. GROSS. The bartender made a crack saying the BF was milking it and it was his fault. I get he was trying to be funny, but really, a slushy beer? Gross. Bottom Line: Go if someone else is paying, don't order ahi tuna, ask for your beer in a regular mug, and don't expect great food. Meh.

Stopped in last night for a drink while friends had dinner. I cannot attest to the food as I didn't eat, but my friends said it was very good - they both had steak. There didn't seem to be very many people there, yet it took close to half an hour before their food arrived...very, very slow. The waitress tried to explain why, but we just couldn't understand her. I will still come back at some point to try the food - it looked and smelled good.

Service ** Decor *** Location **** Grill Food *** Sauces no stars :( Sushi *** I love hibatchi/teppanyaki, whatever you want to call it! Grew up on it in and have enjoyed it my whole 34 years on the planet. This experience presented the best fire show, but, sadly, not the best food or service. Service was slow at best even though the place was less than half full. One server took our drink order, but made sure to tell us that she was not to be our server... another server brought the drinks, and yet another server took the order. Had to flag down yet another server to get more hot water for my tea... etc... The food was fine, good even, properly cooked, and accompanied by a great performance by the chef. What really lost stars were the sauces, THEY WERE TERRIBLE. I am a saucy gal and love every Asian inspired sauces I have ever met. These were obviously from a econo-bottle of MSG, high fructose corn syrup, shinny, tasteless, sadness. I couldn't even use or identify them. Furthermore, the yakisoba (extra $9 per small serving) were destroyed by yet another TERRIBLE SAUCE. It tasted of anise or cardamon or something not familiar and not good. The TERRIBLE SAUCES are reason enough for me not to return, at least not for the grill, which is a significant investment in both time and money. The sushi however, was really pretty good. Hand rolls, 5.50 a piece were full of fresh fish and were a great deal. Totally enjoyed them and will pop back in for a hand roll or two. The chef and his fire skills are the only reason this review isn't earning 1-star.

This is a great teppanyaki place if that is what you are looking for. Great décor and a fun place to eat lunch with your work team or dinner with family/friends. The usual silly show is put on while they make your meal and the food is good.

My New York steak was disgusting and in total my family ate some 400 dollars of shit. And the so called amazing fire throw, the person neared killed me with the fire landing on my plate. good thing I was already finished but hey DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE !!!!!!!!!!!

My boyfriend and I came to Tokyo House on Christmas Eve for an early dinner. Because it was so early the place was less than half full, and we had the awkward advantage of having 3 servers. These ladies never let your water glass get low! Anyway, service was great, the atmosphere was interesting. Neon and lights and water and fire juggling chefs...there's lots to see! I would rate the food below the quality of Benihana, where we go often. The boy seemed to like it okay but I didn't like the salad and they gave me WAY too many sprouts and cabbage with my meal. I feel like that's just cheap filler. Gimme the meat!!! I would go back for girls night just out of convenience, and the gigantic list of cocktails/shots was kind of fun. Standard Japanese Steakhouse/sushi pricing.

We came here for lunch for my son's birthday. They were very accommodating even though our party size kept changing-from 14 to 9 then 7. We ordered steak, chicken, shrimp, fried rice and some sushi. Our chef "ninja" was great! He did a bunch of tricks as he was cooking our food and the kids definitely enjoyed the show... although might be a little scary for the younger kids. Sushi was ok. Everything of the grill was delicious and fun to watch. The steak was cooked perfectly! The sauces that comes with the food is not so good. At the end of our meal our server even prepared and brought out our cake. Overall, we were happy and definitely will come back.

The food was marginal and way overpriced. The Salmon Nigiri app I had was very fishy tasting and had cartilage membrane on the ends of both pieces. Overall the place just felt dirty -- the men's room in particular did not feel clean. What does this say about the cleanliness of the rest of the place...kitchen in particular? Spend your hard earned money somewhere else.

    (2)
  • Angie J.

It was okay. The atmosphere was oddly club like, the tables were surrounded by neon lights and I kept wondering where the tacky white couches were hidden. The show was great, the guy who performed/ cooked at our table worked really hard and obviously put a lot of time into practicing what he does. We tipped him well for his efforts. In the end I felt the food wasn't as good as the Japanese Steak House in Woodvinville and probably won't go back. (If it was $50 for two people I could see so-so food but a great show, in this case we paid $80 for two people not including alcohol and for that, I want to enjoy the food.)

  • Paul M.

This place is a bit on the pricey side, but the foods great and the chef entertains and cooks your food for you as you wait. The cocktails are good too Great atmosphere, and definitely a place I'll be returning to soon.

  • Korina K.

Overall, I like Benihana more. The performance of the chef is entertained and he worked really hard to impress his customers. We tipped him very well because he has good customer service. (Not for the server!!!! You know why? Please read it continually .) Price is a little bit on the high side according to their food quality. The fillet Mignon and scallop are pretty good here even better than Benihana. Q: Why am I giving them 2 stars???????? A: The manager will assign a server for each big table, so we have to be served by the same waitress for the entire night. She was awkward. I usually do not rant somebody because I understand she is just an employee and she has to work for living. Unfortunately she has crossed my bottom line. If she would come by and see how we were doing will be so great. I do not expect her smile or being polite, but as a server, she needs to refill some water right. Think about eating those salty meat and veggies. That waitress checked out other customers, but not us. Frankly, we were not rude or anything, but.....(sigh) What I was so upset because even though I talked to the manager, nothing has been changed. Lastly, I won't go there again. It can take more than a year to build the business, but it won't take more than an hour to lose a customer.

    (2)
  • Hogan C.

The service is sucks, and the food quality was just like average restaurant but charge so expensive. We had a tea, and the tea cup was broken, so the water was dripping. And I asked for a refill for my tea pot, they filled up with soup! I was like what the hack is going on, is this a joke? The food is so oily. I will never go there again. It's just one time experience.

The food is excellent. The setting of this place is magnificent. Kung Fu was my chef and really enjoyed his company. He was very funny and down to earth. My entire family was very entertained!! We are definetly going back again.

Alright.... this isn't the funnest review to write. I have to admit. I wish I can give it higher than 3, but to be honest, even 3 is pushing it. We look at reviews for restaurants and we have expectations. For Teppanyaki style restaurants, I can live without the show, as long as the food is good. However, I can't live with no good food and present a nice show. Imagine the body of the car is a Ferrari, but the engine is a lawn mower engine. I'm sorry, I just can't justify giving anything higher... Onto the details: Chef Mikey, he is an awesome entertainer. That is definitely for sure. His showmanship is second to none and he definitely tried his best and succeeded in engaging with the guests. I had a wonderful conversation and I would not hesitate to continue. However... the food was definitely not up to par of what we expected. I ordered the Teppanyaki New York and my wife ordered the Teppanyaki Steak and Calamari. The calamari was not bad, good seasoning, but everything else feels.... over cooked or under flavored. Two things that should NEVER happen on a Teppanyaki restaurant. The atmosphere is very trendy and I had to actually ask whether or not the restaurant turns into a night club or lounge afterwards. This is not the case and is simply a bar. They clearly have a lot of alcohol options and can potentially be a nice hangout place with a view away from downtown Bellevue towards 405. Thanks!

don't waste your money on this place, I just went there yesterday. the hostess set us down on a corner while there wasn't busy at all, and I wait so long for the waitress to come over to order my drink and food it was ridiculous that I paid over $70 for my food and no one come over to take care us or refill drinks. I found out that is a Korean own restaurant, they aint courtesy as Japanese people! NOT GONNA COME BACK AGAIN.

Very disappointed! Went with a group of friends (6 of us) to celebrate my birthday & a friend's birthday a couple weeks ago. We had reservations for 6:30. First off, the parking is ridiculous! You don't know where to park - there's no directions on how to get to the restaurant once you do park. (Two of us parked in the wrong garage and were locked out and had to get security to let us out). We arrived about 10 min early and sat in the bar that only has tables that seat 4, so 2 had to stand. The host/hostess was never at the check in area, so I had to keep going back & forth waiting for him to tell him we were here! Their wine selection is ridiculous. You can have a cheap glass for about $9, or a nicer glass for $18.00!! Nothing in between. They don't seat us until close to 7 pm. The server doesn't come around for several minutes and the chef for our table doesn't arrive until at least15-20 min later. He's very nice and pleasant and asks what we're there for...but the cocktail server barely comes around. Food is good, but we don't eat until close to 8 pm....They don't offer dessert, just bring us our check, but the other party at our table is eating dessert. Other tables are having birthday celebrations, but nothing, zip at our table. Not even a free scoop of ice cream... I wouldn't go there again....

I am no stranger to the Teppanyaki Experience. Of course Benihana is the best known restaurant in Seattle, but there are multiple other establishments that do this well, including Tokyo Steakhouse. I have heard of this place for years and never visited the original restaurant based on location. I have no problem with Federal Way, but the combination of location and previous tenant (Kenny Rogers Roaster), I just decide with would go elsewhere. Tonight, I ate at the Bellevue location. This was top shelf, neon, glass and flowing water and aquariums. The 1st thing I noticed was the prices. The prices here were face below Benihana, but about the same price as other similar restaurants. We did the chicken and steak and it was a good portion and good flavor. Two things that I didn't expect was the fact that the fried rice had no chicken. We also ordered gyoza and if you ask me, these should have been cooked table side for effect instead of deep fried. In the end, these guys get a solid B, but for me, O Sushi Grill still gets the edge as I think for the same price you get more flavor. O Sushi is not as flashy if you are trying to impress by décor or location, but I am a flavor person, so as long as you are safe, clean and fair, I'll always come down on the flavor side as a meal for me is a joy and location, decoration and flair are a show and there is a time for both. Don't get me wrong, try these guys, they are good, but if it's flavor, you savor, neighbor. Give O Sushi their due.

Tokyo Steak house is trying to be an upscale Japanese restaurant, however the minute you walk in to this place the food smell overwhelms the whole posh they are trying to create. I hate going to Tokyo Steakhouse if I have a later event to attend to. Location is great and parking available so it is a plus, however the staff isn't very attentive and once I went in when the OPEN sign was lit but they wouldn't accept customers anymore, annoying! Their food is pretty good, A2 sauce is a must try. I wouldn't take a girl on a date, planning on going there in my PJ's next.

So I don't know what the deal with this place is. I get the idea of cooking in front of you, but our meal was so serialized that it took 15 minutes for all the food to be cooked and make it to the plate. They start off my cooking some fried rice, then they cooked some vegetables, then they cooked some seafood, then they cooked some chicken and red meat, then they cooked some sprouts....and ta da your food is done. Not one person in my party made it to a full plate before beginning to eat. Weirdest thing ever. Usually these grill places have the meat cut in such sizes that you can just cook it all at once. That said, the food itself was meh. The price was also pretty steep - for the price you can go to El Gaucho. I would skip this place.

What a great place for tepanyaki. Delicious food and great atmosphere. The service was amazing we went there to celebrate my son's 8th birthday and they made it such a special night for him. The food was better than benihana plus parking is free. Can't wait to go back!

I do not recommend this restaurant to anybody that appreciates good food and service. In an area with so much great food, this place really falls short on all fronts... What a huge disappointment and a poor value. I went for Friday lunch and the restaurant seemed grossly understaffed with everything being a long wait, and the service level was really poor. I could not find any value or quality at this restaurant. The miniature portions of miso soup were served in the smallest sized bowl I have ever seen miso soup served in my entire life. They seem all about cutting corners here... Also, my chef did not seem very skilled either... Remaining food after initial distribution around the table was often wasted down the little garbage hole on the grill, there was no showmanship, and I could not believe how much crusty waste kept accumulating on the grill, continuously being scraped off by the chef. Meanwhile, nobody welcomed or greeted us and many other customers at the front door. I was surprised that additional customers did not just leave when no host or hostess greeted them after several minutes, and they just lined up for a sad lunch destiny. I had to ask 3 times for the one and only drink refill I could get (water and tea), and one of the items I ordered (a salad) was completely forgotten and never showed up. The white rice deserves its own story. It is one of the smallest rice bowls I have ever seen (kind of like the way the miso soup is served in a micro sized bowl), filled with low quality dried out poorly cooked and clumpy rice. The rice tastes more like the cheaper grades sometimes found in the poorest dive Chinese restaurants, and not at all like any medium or high grade Japanese white rice typical found at most decent Japanese Restaurants. I would have upgraded my lunch to fried rice if it was not a $4 upcharge to just get rice fried with one egg and some soy sauce. When I saw the fried rice made so simply, I am so glad I did not pay a $4 upcharge for it. It is funny how a side of white rice is $2 on the menu and fried rice is $4, but if you upgraded your lunch rice you still pay a full $4 for such a basic and simplistic dish. I assume they ration the lunch white rice too, to try and trap customers to pay more for a second serving. I find it a really stingy restaurant all about squeezing all the money they can out of you for mediocre food in a tacky environment. The vibe of this Japanese Steak House with TVs and pop music also does not work well either. This is the TGI Fridays of Japanese food (or less than that) and a huge disappointment. Even miscellaneous debris like boxes and dirty dish bins are left randomly around the restaurant. Not a very nice touch or attention to detail. Then again, it is consistent with the overall bad experience I had.

Been here a few times, mainly for happy hour. The 20% discount makes for pretty good pricing for sushi, and there's really no other place that opens late for sushi on the weekends. I for one think their wide variety of sushi taste great. Staff here has been super nice to me every time I've dined here. I did get to try their teppanyaki once. The young chef we had was very good at what he does. I did think that their sauces and some of the way they cook the food was not as good as Benihana (might be because I used to work there), but that's not the chef's fault.

Read on Yelp that TJSH was open and we went to test it out. I like everything new! Automatic sliding door.Hostess greeting.Great sushi bar with perfect lighting .Nigiri fresh.Selection great.Atmosphere lounge calm. ***** We moved closer to the middle of the restaurant since couple people chose steaks for dinner. Glad we did! It was fun to watch a great presentation by a funny smiley chef while we were sipping on the beer served in pre cooled glasses. Dinner was great, meat tender and fat was cut out while the chef was cooking..All we had to do is enjoy the company and food. ***** By the time we left it was past midnight, time flew and I had an experience of a lounge, light entertainment and the right Zen flow energy at this place)) I believe they are open till 2 am which can be often handy for an owl me))

The food and sashimi (especially) is great. The service is where this places falls down. They were particularly slammed the night we went in with a very large group. Everyone's food came out except one of my friends. His food arrived almost literally as the rest of us were paying. He gave them his credit card, which they lost somewhere between the cash register and our table. The manager then said to him, "So, you don't have any other way to pay us?" Let me reiterate, they lost my friend's card and then they gave him a hard time for not having another form of payment... We all left because limos were waiting and they found his card later that evening. Amazingly, the next day when he returned to pick up his card, they had lost it once again and he had to wait twenty minutes while they searched high and low to find it again. A bizarre close to a bizarre experience.

THIS PLACE HAS SOOO MUCH POTENTIAL.... BUT..... My impression was that food is nothing special like the environment they've created with the interior decor that's very trendy. I feel like they tried to create a more upscale version of Bennihana, and failed miserably with the simplicity of their food. I will HOWEVER return again in a month to see if thing have changed.

Visibly seen from I-405 with bright sign and light. Good directional signs leads to free underground parking. Nice long bar with bright lited tables and back bar. There are 17 grill table. We were seated at one facing the window with good view. 5 of us spent $50 a piece for a comfortable dinner with showmanship from the chef in from of the grill table. I guess the price pays also for the exhibition of skill of the knife throwing. The grade quality of the filet mignon steak I ordered was under my expectation though. For a 5 oz cut with 3 pieces of scallops costs $39. $4 up charge for fried rice In lieu of white rice, a bottle of sake costs $7. The waiter forgot to ask for if we would want dessert, so he lost the sale. If one wants a dinner with fun and not mind to pay for the above average price that's OK. Decor and ambience 4 Service 4 Food 3 Will come back soon for a birthday celebration.

I'm not sure why all the reviews are so bad? I guess I don't have time to read them. Anyway, I've been there a few times now and I'll keep coming back. I go for the drinks and sushi, not so much for the full meal. We usually sit at the bar, and the bartender is very attentive. Our drinks are never empty, the sushi arrives quick (and it's good!). The other day we got a free snack just because. I felt it was a really nice gesture. Also my sister once ordered a "fruity drink" and the bartender lady made her a custom drink that turned out to be really good. I think this place is great. I love their interior design and the comfortable seating. Price-wise if you just want to have some sushi and a number of drinks and just lounge for a few hours then it's absolutely great!

Solid 3 stars: the food was simplistic but fresh and good; the chef cooking right in front of the table was entertaining, but every time he juggled knifes or threw fire, I could not help but think that this is an accident waiting to happen. Also, because the place and the staff are new, the service, albeit good, is rough around the edges and not always well coordinated. Maybe, I' will go back in a few months to see if it all flows smoother, but, overall, I am not inclined to return soon.

Super entertaining chefs, delicious and fresh sushi, really cool atmosphere, friendly service, stiff drinks! What's not to like about this place? My boyfriend and I went with another couple and it was so much fun! Would be fun for a cool date night out with a loved one, but REALLY fun with a small or large group! 5 stars all around. :)

Awesome service and atmosphere and nice show. But far too pricy for how little food you get. Travel a little further to Woodinville to Tokyo Japanese Steak House and half the price and twice the food.

Great place! Gorgeous bar. The owners and employees are really nice and great food! Must try the rolls and the Avocado bomb. The happy hour is a great deal, we sat at the bar (instead of main doning) and had a few rolls, a few specialties and a lot of sake for two people for $60!

My husband and I come here often as they have very fresh sushi. We will usually share a teppanyaki dish and 2 rolls and that is plenty for the two of us to share. The decor is trendy with a lot of neon lights and water/bubble towers which keeps our lil ones entertained. Great family restaurant.

We took our 2 kids (17 and 7) and our parents to dinner here Saturday night. We had a great time! We started off with the Ichiro Roll. Crab, cream cheese and green onion. My husband is not a sushi fan - but even he liked it! Between the 6 of us we had most everything on the hibachi menu: steak, lobster, shrimp, scallops and chicken. Everything was good - and the sauces were a big hit. The meal starts with a brothy soup, then a salad. A 2 piece shrimp appetizer, your main course, rice, veggies (zucchini, onion and mushrooms) plus bean sprouts. Plenty of food. For 6 of us (1 child's dinner), sodas and the Ichiro Roll our bill was around $200. We did use 2 Passport cards which gave us $28 off total. Don't forget that you are paying for the show too! The only negative is that we had reservations, arrived promptly, were seated right away - then we sat for almost 25 minutes. They finally seated another couple with us and then sent the chef over. I think we were waiting for them to "fill" our table before they would get started. Will absolutely go again!

I like this place. The food is good, NOT great, but pretty darn good. The restaurant is clean, modern and looks great. The chefs do a great job, and the sushi platter was an exceptional deal. Good combination of sushi and steak. I'll be back.

I've had better experience else where. This place lacks quality on the food. Everything else seems to be there. Good location and potential. The service was good. But, my steak was over cooked and the sauces taste like Korean teriyaki sauce. Make sure you ask for med rare if you want medium. The decor is hip and flashy. For all the Microsoftie, they only discount $14. (not buy one get one free) I try Bennihana next time.

The way they prepared the food was very entertaining. The food was okay and the price we paid for I was basically for the show. I think it's worth going if you've never been because its a good experience.

I was excited to try this place out after I talked to a few people who raved about it. They warned me that it was a little pricey but that the food and service would make it worth it. I was not impressed with anything. The food was eh, nothing special. Everything tasted the same regardless of whether you got the filet, chicken, shrimp or a combination. I've definitely had better and paid a lot less than what I paid here. Although the restaurant wasn't busy, the service was really slow! I won't be coming back. If you're going to spend this much $, I'd go somewhere else.

What's that expression George W fumbled during a speech? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me! Classic case of me being lured to a TV for Euro 2012 and thinking this place might just have gotten better. Nope, worse. I got the sushi combo because it was one of the few items that the server said didn't take 20 minutes to prepare (all the teppen yaki does). So, I got the 6 piece combo with cali roll and green tea. Green tea arrives - tea bag in hot water. $3. Fancy! Sushi arrives - fish selection is okay. Quality of fish is brutal. Two pieces had sinewy strands I had to spit out. The cali roll fake crab had a delightful chemical taste that caused mild gagging. Server forgot soy dish, never refilled tea. The bill comes - $22. I'm the idiot. Wish I had some syrup of ipecac. Never, ever again. Even if someone else pays. Final zinger - they don't even have HD on their flat panel TVs. Want a comparison? A block away is Kobe Wellbeing Tonkatsu. They offer a 7-piece sushi bento with 4-piece tempura including shrimp, spicy tuna roll, miso soup, salad and unlimited green tea, all for $15 - and it's all higher quality. Or Marinepolis Sushi Land conveyor belt place another few blocks away. I paid $10 for more sushi than I should have eaten and it was again, all better than Tokyo JSH.

This place is amazing, screw all those bad reviews! I have been eating at the Federal Way location since 1998 and Bellevue is no less than awesome!! The fried rice is to die for all other menu items have always been super fresh even the lobster which I get every time. Sure it's expensive but you get what you pay for! Now that we have one on the eastside I could not be happier. This place rocks!!!!

I was super excited about this place opening in Bellevue, needless to say I had rather high expectations for the food and the whole teppanyaki experience. We came in for lunch on a weekday, for such a big place that grand opened just the weekend before, it wasn't very full. We later found out that they haven't done much advertising to promote the restaurant, just so that they can test out the water with a smaller than expected audience. We chose to have teppanyaki, so they seated us next to the grill. Soon after we made our selections to the waitress, the chef came out with a cart full of ingredients and started the show/cooking. To be honest, the bulk of our enjoyment was from watching the chef doing knife tricks and telling corny-but-still-laughable jokes. Our chef was very friendly and well-trained, chit chatting with us while making the veggies, fried rice, and meat using all kinds of knife tricks. One thing bothered me was that they used butter in the fried rice, to me, that doesn't make the fried rice very "Asian", maybe it's for catering to the general audience? The food itself is okay, nothing special about it other than how it was made. One good thing about watching my food being cooked every step of the way is that I can pace myself eating versus getting everything at once and end up eating way too fast for my own good. If you haven't tried teppanyaki before (like me), this place is worth checking out. But I probably wouldn't be a frequent customer since they are rather expensive for the food you get. About $15 for lunch and $25-30 for dinner. If you are on a budget, try going during lunch, since it's cheaper and you'll still get the same experience.

Tokyo #2, AKA Tokyo Bellevue is missing a few things from it's Federal Way Older Sibling. Portions seemed smaller, and no sorbet at the end of the meal. Prices seemed a touch higher than Federal Way, but that is to be espected. If it lived in the area, I would consider coming more often. However, as the Federal Way location is closer, I'll stick with that one.

A few friends from work and myself decided to try this place since it just opened and we are on a mission to find good sushi around our office in Bellevue. We have one place right across the street that we usually go to because the staff is amazing and the sushi is good, but a little pricey. Nonetheless, we decided to try something new and all I can say is we were all WILDLY disappointed in Tokyo Steakhouse. I think we all agreed that we would never eat here again and will stick to our usual place, Kobe. The one pro to this place is that there is ample parking in the building and it is in a nice building and a pretty good location. When i walked in, the hostess was very rude. The restaurant is decorated kind of strangely- they have a lot going on- lots of different color lights, etc. There really isn't a theme. The restaurant is huge and was not busy at all during lunch. The 4 of us sat at the sushi bar and they had 2 sushi chefs for Friday lunch. There couldn't have been more than 20 people in the entire restaurant around 12pm. The waitress brought us our menus and we looked over them for 5 minutes and then ordered. About 20 minutes later, we were wondering where lunch was, but didn't think too much of it. 10 minutes later, they brought my sushi and another friend's sushi out. We waiting for about 10 minutes, not eating, figuring that the other two people we were with would have their food soon. The waitress kept coming by every 10 minutes saying she was sorry and the food would be out soon. 45 minutes went by since we ordered, we ate, and by the time the other 2 got their sushi, they had to get it to go because we didn't have time on our lunch break to eat it. THIS PLACE WAS EMPTY. I have no idea why it took them almost an hour to make sushi for 4 people with 2 sushi chefs. It was terrible. I'd think for a new place in town, they would try a little harder to establish a good reputation, but I guess not. Needless to say we will not be back and the sushi wasn't anything amazing. I would not recommend this place to anyone. There are plenty of other good places in the area. They won't be in business long with this kind of service.

Atmosphere was a bit to neon and modern for me, but the chef was great!!!! Service and chef were both very good. Food was great (except for one shrimp that wasn't shelled well). Steak was excellent though. A tad pricey, but nice for a treat.

Came in at closing time on a Sunday night. My friend and I polished off a huge plate of sushi. Very fresh. Everything was excellent. One of the best spicy tuna rolls I have ever had. And their specialty rolls were worth the price. The hot sake topped off a great dinner. It isn't on the level of Morrimoto's when it comes to creativity, so it falls short of 5 stars, but I would gladly return.

Come here for entertainment and showmanship, it's very fun to see the chef waving knives and create a small volcano in front of you, but don't expect decent food or getting full. Maybe I will try again with a group of friends out for drinking, because the place has a *very * cool bar ambience, will not come back for serious food.

I have been going to Tokyo Steakhous for many years in Federal Way, when they opened one in Bellevue I couldn't wait to try it out! I was EXTREMELY happy with teh atmosphere, the service and the food. Every employee in the place was always checking on us, filling up water glasses, smiling even if we weren't their table. My water glass was never empty. The chef wasn't as great as I have had in the past but I will cut him some slack because we definitely were one of the last tables of the evening and it was just the two of us - granted the rest of the restaurant was very busy still. Can't wait to go back! :)

My coworkers and I had been anticipating the opening of Tokyo Steak House for months, ever since seeing the banner in the window on a summer trip to John Howie. Finally, after months of stalking the website, attempting to call the restaurant, and hiding in nearby dumpsters with binoculars, we finally got to try it out for Monday lunch. The place looks swank, though in kind of a "new casino" sort of way. We were seated immediately, as the dining room was immense and sparsely populated. Midway through the meal, they either played some weird industrial music, or the sound system started to malfunction. Either way it kind of took us out of the meal. The theatrics were pretty impressive, although I don't know how interested I'd be in seeing them more than once. We were told after the meal that the fire spots are usually bigger but the grills need time to break in before that can be achieved. So maybe they'll be better in a few months. Overall, the food was good, but for the price, the portions are small. This is countered by the entertainment, but that makes this kind of a one time deal restaurant.

Bad service. Made reservation at 8:30pm and hostess told us to wait 10 mins when we get there. 10 mins became 50 mins and still no seats. What's the point of making reservation? Don't take reservation if you don't intend on keeping it! Would not recommend this restaurant unless you prepared to wait for an hour or more to get seated.

My friend was super excited to check out this place and made me drive all the way out to bellevue. I was excited to learn this place had free parking, although it does appear you can only enter it from one direction. I normally enjoy a good hibachi, (especially one that offers tofu) but this one seemed poorly ran. My friend chose this location for a bday celebratory lunch as she was under the impression they would do something to make her feel special, but I did have my doubts. Although I told our cook and he assured me they did do special things for bdays, we are both unsure what exactly they were since we did not witness them, although he did ask her questions about her plans for later that evening. My friend had to argue with the waitress about a special posted on the website, which is apparently an old special and no longer good (still on the website though, I checked when we got home). I ordered the tofu and wanted to add garlic for 6$. I was mostly through eating my food when I had to remind them about my garlic which the cook had to go back and get, not sure why it didn't come with the prepped food they bring out in the beggining. They also don't have the ginger dressing that I have come to love and crave at other hibachi places. I did enjoy one of the sauces and lunch prices for the actual meal were reasonable comparitely although I did pay 6$ to add garlic and 8$ to add yakisoba noodles.

Came here twice the first weekend they opened, The first night, our group of friends was going to check out their bar. It was a Friday and their posted hours said they closed at 2am. We showed up at midnight... And it was closed. A bunch of the servers were outside smoking and told us they closed because it was really slow. We decided to give them a second chance even though closing early on the opening weekend was a HUGE red flag. This time we wanted to have dinner there. To avoid the disappointment of the night before we called in advance and ask when their kitchen closed, they said 10pm. So we showed up at 9:15pm and the host told us the kitchen was already closed. He was rude and proceeded to show us the door... (even thought the bar was supposedly still open). Some minutes later we saw everyone at the bar leaving and overheard someone saying they were kicking everyone out because they wanted to close early.. WHAT?! I kinda still wanted to try the food but reading the other reviews it seems their bad customer service is not worth their ok food. Bottom line: go somewhere else, this restaurant is not run as a business...

It's bad. Steak was chewy and everything needed salt. Bland food. I wouldn't recommend anyone going, even if you've never tried teppenyaki before... I mean, why would you want ruin your first experience with teppenyaki? I give this place 6 months max before it goes out of business.

Not Great Service, Not even good food. I went in with a group of five. We were seated quickly but she was insistent that the fifth person come in from smoking before she would seat everyone else. The restaurant was dead so we were seated in a prime spot right beside the window. Two of us ordered the tofu platter for 12 dollars and everyone else ordered various meat platters. Well nobody eats at the same time here. So the tofu was cooked first. I received one Strip of Tofu with some carrots. IT was mind boggling why He only cooked one tiny piece of tofu. We were so confused. Well my tiny piece of tofu was tasteless and the carrots were not cooked but at least everything was fresh. Not a good place for a lunch during your lunch break because they only cook for one person at a time. So by the time the fifth person gets their food the first person has been done eating for at least 15 minutes. What should have been a 40 minute meal turned into a 1.5 hr meal. The only person that enjoyed their food was the person that got the sushi!

We started out at another restaurant and we asked the waitress what she thought of the Tokyo Japanese steakhouse...she said it was her favorite restaurant and she highly recommended it. So we paid for our drinks and left with out ordering dinner and went to the Tokyo Japanese steakhouse instead for dinner. Dinner and a show...AWESOME. The food was tasty and the chef was very entertaining. It was a little pricy for the portion because there are multiple groups sitting with you and they split the food between everyone depending on what is ordered, but I would deffinately recommend this restaurant to all my friends. Just don't expect to get in and out in under an hour unless you are just having sushi. Relax and enjoy the show!

think of benni hanna with a modern sheek design. great food and service, the bartenders/servers are very knowledgeable about their food and give good recommendations. they service an item called a avocado bomb that i can only describe as one huge spicy tuna roll covered in avocado you don't do well with spice i would not try). if you are in the east side area of seattle and are craving sushi i would highly recommend stopping here.

So much fun! Yes, you are paying for the experience, but experience is so much more valuable than just a good dinner! The food was great, the atmosphere was great fun, the bill was not that bad...the experience was fantastic!

Its nice to finally have a teppanyaki spot on the east side! The customer service is great! The owner is very welcoming and always likes feedback from the customers. The teppanyaki and entertainment is the best i've had in a long time and their fried rice is delicious!! I go at least once a week and have yet to be disappointed. Their sushi is pretty darn good as well! Try their spicy tuna rolls :-) They only complaint that I have is that they have been open for less than a month and have already taken certain dishes off their menu....particularly the bento box (which was the best deal on their menu) They included meat, rice, salad, soup, sushi and tempura for 11 bucks!! The owner told me that they took it off because it was too much food to prepare. (??) Anyway, that wont stop me from going back....their food is still amazing!! I highly recommend trying this place! Great date spot too! ;-D

Overpriced teppanyaki for the quality and drinks! Yes the place is in dt bellevue so that must be why it is pricey and of course Japanese teppanyaki has never been cheap either. Still I got a groupon for this and it still wasn't worth it. The service was ok and the food was being cooked in front of us so that was good. However there is nothing notable about the food (rice, meat, other otherwise). What's worse is we ordered two alcoholic drinks and my turned out looking like a smoothie (and why is there whipped cream) and my friend had Manhattan and he said it was the worse he ever had! But that's what you get for ordering an American drink at a Japanese teppanyaki place I guess! Anyhow the atmosphere is also dark and I didn't care for that because I like to see my food. Overall not the best food, service or drink and too pricey! Not worth the money.

This place deserves more love. Only three parties when I went on a Thursday for lunch. Decided to skip the show and ordered filet and shrimp teriyaki. Someone else will have to say whether the fried rice is worth the $4.5 uplift. Plenty of food and the steak and shrimp were both perfectly cooked. Came with a mountain of sautéed veggies and a soup starter. Free parking in garage under building.

Though I've never been a huge fan of Japanese food, but I've found that you can get a pretty good meal at Tokyo. My favorite is the Yakinku Don which is the BBQ beef (or their version of BBQ) with rice. The meat is generally of good quality, but my last visit, the meat was a rubbery and difficult to chew. The flavors are worth the effort, though. Tokyo is well known for their Bento boxes, specifically the $11.99 Salmon Bento Box on Thursdays. Perhaps not worth driving across town to eat here, it's a good place for a decent meal if you happen to be in the area.

It's the same style (teppanyaki) as many other places around the Seattle area. This place doesn't trump any other place in quality of food but it doesn't fall short either. My gripe of this place is the decor. When dining on the east side I have a certain "standard" if you will for each establishment. The bright neon lights and color changing decor is pretty tacky and cheap. The dim dark lighting gives off a near strip club feel more than a fun inviting teppanyaki restaurant. The staff is nice and accommodating, which is what really saves this place from any less stars. The food again is nothing of great flavors or quality. I know you pay for the showmanship of the chef which I have no quarrels with but it still doesn't justify the price for what you get in quality.

Was VERY excited to try this place but...Rude front desk and staff (if you're gonna be gossiping about your customers behind the double mirror directly behind the front desk then make sure you use your inside voice). Food was bland but edible. Very bad management. The only good thing about this place is the decor. I wish I went to McDonald's instead.

I went here on a Groupon last week, asking my server if I had to eat at the grill or could I have sushi. She replied I could have anything in the restaurant. I had the Tokyo and yellowtail sushi rolls which were not very good. The shrimp tempura was cold & the yellow tail was like what you'd buy premade in QFC. While I was eating, I was thinking, 'I'm so glad this is on a Groupon because it's so disappointing.' Then the cashier wouldn't accept my Groupon saying it wasn't for sushi. I told her I asked the server prior to ordering what I could use it for and she confirmed sushi. The cashier told that girl was new and didn't know. Long story, short: there was a hugely inappropriate exchange between me and the cashier before she accepted the Groupon. It seems no one is in charge here and the owner has no interest in the operation of the business.

I liked this place a lot until the cook flung his flaming stick at me at the end of the meal. Yes, it was an accident since they do their tricks, and I suppose it's a risk you take eating there, but it still shouldn't have happened. When it happened I didn't get any assistance from any staff members; not even a sorry. They basically acted like nothing happened while my boyfriend, now husband, and Mom had to help clean me off. The flaming stick hit my dishes which then spilled on me and stained my clothes. I am forever terrified of hibachi restaurants!

Food was great! But don't wear clothes you care about, 3 of the 4 people in our party got sauce or food on their clothing from the chef. Fun environment would recommend overall.

We come back for the environment and the food. My girlfriend loves their "shrimp" sauce. The orange/red/pinkish sauce used for chicken and seafood dippin. I love the sushi. I have been sad that the last couple times I've asked for no cucumbers I've still received them but I'm not that picky. The servers are absolutely delightful. And always say hi when they recognize us. We come here once a week for date night.

I love this quaint place. Not too busy and nice personal service. Food is good every time. Calamari was amazing, filet melted in my mouth. Fun to go a couple times a year. Parking is free. Groupon has deals on occasion, watch for them. Enough food for two to share.

Went on a Tuesday night with a group of 7 people. My wife and I arrived very early so we waited in the bar for the rest of our party to arrive. The bartender was very friendly and I just asked him to "make me the fruitiest drink you have" so I don't know exactly what I had but it was delicious. When the rest of our party arrived we were seated and they brought out some soup for us (miso?) which was tasty. We ordered the food which I suppose was a bit pricey but didn't really seem out of place for the area. Our table ordered a wide variety of food which the cook verified when he arrived at our table. I've been many Japanese steak houses before and I must say the chef we had was just amazing. I can't remember his name but he put on an amazing show and was almost like an MC for the table. The food was all delicious (Always get the fried rice) and in the end the price was about par for a nice night out in Bellevue. A few of us in the group have a lot of experience at other Japanese steak houses and we found our experience here to be one of the best we ever had.

So as I seat down and order sushi and 2 entrees with a groupon, waitress points out groupon doesn't include sushi. Well, I was gonna spend a lot more than $50, but since she pointed it out, I decided I can buy better sushi elsewhere. Foods fun. I hope those chefs get more tips than the waitress, cause wait staff has attitude problem.

This place is WAY overpriced, service is extremely slow, and the food isn't worth it. Not to mention, most of my family got food poisoning last time we were there to celebrate a birthday! (7 people!) Not coming back here!

Food is mediocre. The place is so dark but you can still see that it is not clean. Floors are dirty and sticky. Didn't think it would be like this in such a high rent building.

This isn't the best thing since sliced bread, but it's definitely good enough to go to if you're craving teppanyaki. I don't know any significantly better Japanese steakhouses in the area. We made a reservation, and were seated and served quickly. Decorations were interesting, but I'm not sure if I like the combination of Asian influence, bright lights, and trashy blackness; it doesn't quite work. Ah well, it's a minor quibble. The menu is extensive. - Sushi pappers appetizer was pretty good. - We also got the Fat *ss Special Roll and The Lion King Roll, which were also pretty good. Overall, their sushi thrive on the explosion of flavor from an abundance of sauces and flavor, not from being particularly well-crafted or having the best fish. So, make no mistake; this is an American restaurant. This is not where we go to slowly savor single slices of sashimi between bites of pickled ginger. If you are looking for anything authentic here, you'll most likely be disappointed. The only people at our teppanyaki counter other than my own family was a young couple with way-too-serious expressions on their faces. No kids at our table, kind of killed the mood. - Miso soup was average....so, not that good, but I drank all of it. - Salad was boring. I always die a little on the inside when I get a garden salad at an Asian restaurant. - After that, our chef started our meal with stir fried veggies. Mushrooms, onions, cucumbers, and bean sprouts, all pretty tasty. - He surprised me by cooking my fried rice too, which was significantly better than I expected. - The shrimp was fantastic. It seems to benefit from this style of cooking, even better with the yellowish sauce. - Scallops are huge and juicy. Unfortunately, maybe they weren't cleaned carefully enough, as I felt a little sand or something in a couple of them. - The chicken was only okay. It was a tad dry and doesn't seem to benefit from this style the way the seafood does. - Filet Mignon was actually really good. Tender, with good flavor. - Ice cream dessert was better than I expected too. As long as you're not a picky eater, your dinner should be enough to fill you up. My stepbrother and I, put together, eat an obscene amount of food, so we had to get extra stuff.

Great flashy decor that catches your eyes once you walk in, kind people to greet you, overall good food. But once you look at the finer details of this restaraunt you notice things. Tables and decor were dirty & sticky. Waiter was fantastic even during the busy hours but because of lack of responsibility I down it to 3 stars. Waiters and chefs are amazing though.

Absolutely impressive place!! Called ahead and made reservations for 5, was greeted quickly by the Manager and seconds before being seated. I loved how they spared no expense on making this place look authentic. I've been to a ton of these Hibachi places and this is hands down my favorite. The portions are huge, not small by any means. I love that they are on the Passport list as well, though I'd go either way! The guests we took loved it and will be back as well!

This place was amazing, enjoyed every part of the meal . From the polite service when we arrived to the waitress who even asked about any allergies. Which is sometimes a deal breaker to me when eating out. The grill was hot and the food was seasoned to perfection. Definetly recommend this place for any type of occasssion. Will be back again.

EMPLOYEES THAT STEAL FROM CUSTOMERS - BEWARE I had the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant here when one of their employees stole my Ray Ban aviators. It was over a year ago and I have not been back since. I've been meaning to write a review since then and am finally doing it. Before my horrible experience, my fiancé and I were regulars here, and probably ate here 2-4 times per month. The following is what happened and why I have never been back since: My fiancé, his mom and I come in for dinner on a Friday night and grab a table by the sushi bar. I have my sunglasses (expensive Ray Ban aviators) on my head, take them off and set them on the table because I don't have my case with me. We eat dinner and leave, driving to Bellevue park to go for walk. As soon as we got out of the car I realized I had left my sunglasses. It had been less than 10 minutes since we left the restaurant. I immediately call Toyko Steakhouse to tell them I will be returning to pick up my sunglasses, and they tell me there are no sunglasses on the table and nobody found my sunglasses. This is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE because I know, and my fiancé and his mom know, that I left them on the table. We immediately drive back to Tokyo Steakhouse and the hostess and manager and extremely rude about this situation, simply telling me my sunglasses aren't there. I ask to see the surveillance video, which they claim they reviewed. The surveillance video clearly shows me entering the restaurant with my sunglasses on my head, setting them down on the table, and leaving without my sunglasses. The only people that come to the table between the time I left the restaurant and the time I called 10 minutes later are Tokyo Steakhouse employees (bussers). The video is somewhat blurry but you can see the bussers clearing the table. They obviously took my sunglasses. The staff and manager were beyond rude, unhelpful, and offensive. I went back later that week to speak to another manager and he was just as rude and unhelpful as everyone else had been. I urge you to stay away from this restaurant. The food truly is not that good (average at best), and the customer service I experienced here was the worst I have ever experienced in my life. One of their employees stole something of mine, something I loved, and the restaurant did absolutely nothing about it despite the existence of video footage showing that I left my sunglasses on the table and their employees came to the table and took my sunglasses. I will never set foot in here again.

I give the location a 5-star -- it's nearby and parking is not a problem. Service - 3 star -- really nothing to rave about. We had teppanyaki and our chef messed up our order but he quickly fixed it (hubby ordered the calamari and scallop but chef forgot the scallop, my dad ordered calamari and steak, but I ended up with his calamari). Food (teppanyaki) - 2 star -- I've had better sauces at Benihana, fried rice was one note. Calamari was tender though and so was the scallops.

Sadly, this was a bad experience from the food to the service. We entered the restaurant to be greeted by no one. We wandered the lobby hoping to get someone's attention. Finally, a young gal approached and asks how many. I advised three. I asked if she wanted my name as it would be a ten minutes wait. She replies no, just don't wander away from here. We sat down in the lobby which looked into the restaurant. It reminded me of a strip club that is dark with neon lights. I think another yelp person named Nam said the same. I first ordered the mussels as an appetizer. They arrived with a strange odor of oil and sulfur. I immediately wanted to vomit after attempting to take down one down thinking it must be the seared salmon or something on the flattop. I was wrong. I nearly threw up in my mouth. I tried to not draw attention to me from others across the table that I didn't know. I ask my friends to smell the mussels who commented that the mussels smelled bad or even rotten. I advised the chef who called a staff member to fix it. I told the staff member that I nearly vomited eating the mussels. They said they would take it off the bill. Thinking maybe I'll try a drink with a fancy cup for $14 bucks...sadly it arrived at the table with no fancy cup. I asked where the fancy cup was and the waitress said you didn't ask for a cup. Sadly, I guess pointing at the picture means you have to still have to ask for the cup. I told the waitress that I still wanted the cup and the waitress finally agreed to change my cup. Now to the food... I ordered chicken and calamari and the chef begins to cook. It's clear the other side of the table knew the management and staff. One person even had their own bottled water and seemed to make special request. They were given extra portions left over on the grill. My friends's order of shrimp had to be reordered and added to the grill after the first initial order was served. I'm sad that we were not entertained like the surrounding tables. Three flattop tricks total is sad for the $100 dollar meals that I paid for. The taste of the food was dry that even the extra sauce didn't help. As the check came with the mussels still being billed. I asked the waitress why it was still there as I was told it was going to be removed. She checked and removed it. I left sad and still hungry with a to go box that I would give to my dog. Yes, I understand I maybe harsh in this review but I feel it's fully justified because I didn't enjoy my meal or the customer service. I only thing that I liked was the cup that I could easily get somewhere else and cheaper. Step up your game Tokyo Steakhouse.

The Head Chef Is da bomb - the food was awesome and the service great- just had to wait a few more minutes for the chef to come by - but when he did, it was a great show with knifes flying everywhere, fireworks and a volcano! And yeah, he did cook great food! I had steak and shrimp with fried rice - they came with veggies and yakisoba.

Took a long time to get a chef to our table. Was very disappointed in his lack of skills. Didn't do a lot of cool flipping utensils etc. like when I came a couple years ago. Did comp appetizers for whole table for long wait though. Food was great. My fiance and I both got NY steak and lobster. Chef that served table behind us was more like I remember, fun and exciting!

First time here - celebrating my mother-in-law's 80th birthday. The food was pretty good overall - fantastic filet, scallops and chicken.. However, the fried rice was bland and unflavorful and the veggies could have been cooked a bit longer and cut more evenly. Everything would have been greatly improved with some added garlic! The chef and wait staff were attentive. They all went out of their way to acknowledge my mother-in-law's birthday. The environment is amazing and the decor is vivid - would be lots of fun on the weekend. Nice place - highly recommended.

I really want to give Tokyo a better rating, but I've been going to to Bennihanna for nearly 45 years. Unfortunately Tokyo doesn't quite measure up to Teppenyaki at Bennehanna. The decor is sad...and it is a cold environment. There aren't many customers and the cooks don't really try to hard to rev up the kind of response I'm used to...the food is fine.

This place is far overpriced for what you get. You're paying for being in downtown Bellevue. I've been to quite a few teppanyaki places and the best part, of course, is the show. Our chef was clearly not interested in entertaining us. He made a lot of mistakes in his very short show. He dropped the spatula a couple of times, his onion tower fell down and overall, the entertainment part was about 2 minutes. He lit the grill on fire a couple of times, but that was the highlight. $15-18 for a child's meal?!? Wow. We paid $80 for two adults and a child with low priced entrees and no drinks. Crazy overpriced. Go to the teppanyaki place in Woodinville to pay less and be more entertained.

Came here for lunch on a holiday. Huge place. Free parking under the building if you go in at 112th ave. Beautiful building. Go upstairs and outside to get to entrance. This is a large place with many cooking areas as well as a sushi bar. Staff was very friendly. We were seated with another family right away. The cook was very good. Entertaining, and interacted with everyone well. The soup....oh my, this is GOOD. Even my son liked it. Very flavorful. The sauces served are a Yum Yum type sauce and then some teriyaki bbq type sauce. Our previous experiences with this style of eating usually provided a ginger sauce that is thinner. The sauce here was thick and definitely more teriyaki. It was good on the steak, but something different than we expected. My husband had the filet. $25 for lunch. He said $40 for dinner. It was absolutely wonderful! Juicy, tender. Seasoned lightly. I had the New York steak and scallops. I prefer filet, but this is the only way to get scallops at lunch(or with shrimp). The steak was tender, flavorful. My scallops were tasty and not over seasoned. My son isn't a steak kid, but he didn't want chicken and also enjoyed a New York steak and ate it all! White rice comes free with the meal, and there is a charge for fried rice($4). I didn't know this, but it was so good I would pay for it again. We enjoyed our meal here very much. It was flavorful and all our meals were excellent. Our service was great. My husband's water glass never emptied. We will be back!

People are always comparing this place to Benihana, but who wants to travel to downtown and deal with traffic, when you can stay on the Eastside with easy parking? I've gone for both teppenyaki and for just single dishes. My meat and seafood are always cooked perfectly. The shows the chefs put on are great! It is such a casual environment, but I've seen all sorts of groups here: families, dates, friends, and people eating alone. Overall, I've always been very happy with my food and the service.

We consider ourselves well versed in the Benihana style of Tepanyaki over the years but this is our first time trying this east-side restaurant. Between Benihana dropping Prime Card discounts and the horrendous traffic and hassle of traveling to downtown Seattle for dinner on a weeknight, Tokyo Steakhouse is our new go-to place for convenient Tepanyaki. They do accept prime card (though it's nowhere near the two-for-one Benihana offered for many years). First thing you notice is the restaurant is enormous and very nice inside. It's very spacious (esp compared to Benihana) and the tables all have cool accent lighting that the kids loved. The bar is gigantic. We are here on a Thursday and it's pretty mellow but this place seems built for huge weekend crowds. The food was good! We had filet and lobster and overall I'd rate it just a fraction below Benihana. The portions seem just a tiny bit smaller and the price just a tiny bit higher - the price to pay for east side convenience. Also notable is the entrees don't come with a desert like they do at the B place. The chef was great and did a superb job cooking and was friendly and engaging with the table. For our first visit it's hard to find a fault with this place. We wanted Tepanyaki and didn't want to drive to Seattle and we got it and it was good. Both kids enjoyed their meals and gave it a thumbs up. We will definitely return again. Service was fine and adequate. No complaints!

My family and I headed to Tokyo for a celebratory dinner recently. We were full of anticipation, as it was our first time going to Japanese steakhouse on the West coast since moving from the DC area. Wow, were we let down. Although the service was pleasant, by both our server and the teppanyaki chef, we couldn't help but be disappointed in our experience. First of all, the sticker shock of the food prices. I know it's not fair to compare to Japanese steakhouses on the East coast, but tenderloin and scallops for $40! And the serving size was tiny. Plus, you have to pay a $4 upcharge for fried rice?? It is standard when I've had it in the past, and I'm not kidding when I say double the portion size. Double. If you do opt for steamed rice, they give you a teeny tiny ice cream scoop of it. We started off with some sushi, and I found the quality to be seriously lacking. I had one piece and refused to eat any more. My 9-year old, who is a huge sushi lover, also said the sushi tasted off and refused to eat it. The teppanyaki cook was very pleasant and put on a decent show, but my goodness, it was the shortest cooking demo I've ever seen in a teppanyaki restaurant. Again, we were disappointed by the amount of food we got given the prices, and the bean sprouts cooked at the end were old and smelled funky. Yet another food I couldn't bring myself to eat. I'm not sure if this is the standard for teppanyaki here in the PNW, but I certainly hope not. I'll keep searching for a satisfactory Japanese steakhouse experience.

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and we sat at the grill, just to see the show. If you have never witnessed an hibachi show then I recommend it. You have to get a knife thrown in your direction once in your lifetime before that very knife chops up the meat that the chef grills right in front of you! It's pretty entertaining, especially if you have a large party. There was someone else's birthday that night and the staff all got together with a huge drum set and started chanting. But most importantly the food is really good. We had the tuna and shrimp plate, and added fried rice. It was yummy! It came with soup, salad and veggies (zucchini and bean sprouts). You can also order sushi at the grill area and vice versa. My favorite sushi roll is the Lion King Roll, which has seared salmon on top. Sooo addicting. The staff are all really friendly. Our hibachi chef made us laugh and made our time there seem personable. We'll be sure to visit again soon.

We always enjoy the food, good service and consistent experience. Not high brow sushi in fact we enjoy the other dishes more. Try a deluxe makanuchi for a great sampler - black cod, sushi, tempura, California roll (yes. I know it's not real sushi), meatballs, seaweed salad, miso soup and a few other tasty bits. We the add in either more nigiri, rolls or small plates to split between two. Try the eggplant with salmon, grilled fish, egg custard to name a few. They will offer a coffee jello at the end for dessert . I do not enjoy but this is because of my issue in general with 'asian dessert'. I'll spare you ye full rant but jello and beans just don't cut it in my book. The babe did great and it's a roomy place and lightly noisy so good for families.

TL:DR Service was "meh" but the meal was quite tasty. Came in on a rather slow Monday night, only four grills going, and were invited to wait in the bar or the main entry and were quoted five to ten minutes until a grill would be ready to go. We opted to wait in the bar. Kind of an interesting configuration for the bar but it really worked for the environment. The "tables" in the bar are perpendicularly attached to the main bar and can make passing items interesting if more than two opted to take the table. The bartender was a litter slower than I would have liked, but acceptable. Had some great conversation while we were waiting for our table and I kept looking at the host while she was seating other tables that had arrived before us. Once I reached the bottom of my glass and checked the time I found that we had been waiting about 18 minutes. Okay, she forgot about us. But with a night this slow, REALLY? C'mon! When I walked over from the bar to the host stand she appeared to be socializing with another employee and just looked at me when I approached; read "didn't say a thing." So that's how this is going to go, huh? I asked how the five to ten minute wait was looking and she was positively SHOCKED that we wanted that grill we were waiting for. Anyway. She apologized and sat us immediately. The server took a little while to come around to the table after we had been seated but there were two open seats and there was a party of four already seated. I assumed that they didn't serve anyone until the table was full. Interesting. We ordered some more drinks and gyoza as a starter. I was impressed with the bartender when the drinks showed up. She remembered that my girlfriend wanted a lime with her particular brew, which was not a standard accompaniment to the beer she ordered. Once the starters began appearing I was pleasantly surprised with the Miso soup. Normally I'm not a fan of Miso because it usually just has a very watery flavor to me but I'm guessing this one was a little higher on the sodium scale as the flavor was very pronounced. The gyoza were nothing to write home about. They were tasty but also about what I had expected and nothing more. After the starters were done it took a while for the server to come back around to clear and freshen drinks but once she was all done, the chef came out; I'm pretty sure he was new. The chef confirmed orders and began cooking up all the goodness. The "grill blessing" was disappointing, there just wasn't much flare and after a small mistake, he pretty much threw in the towel on the performance in favor of cooking the meal. The performance continued with the eggs but a lot of the table missed anything after this as the chef didn't speak too loudly after a little wobble in the performance. When the chef was at the end of the cooking cycle on the chicken, he accidentally gave my girlfriend's order to the woman next to her. No biggie, we had full plates as it was. He apologized and had more chicken brought out. Once he was all done he cleaned up the grill and left a nice trough of fire at the back of the grill; this was a touch I had never seen before and was very pleasant. As for the meal, it was pretty darn good! The steak and chicken were tender, moist, and hot. No pink in the chicken and my steak was done perfectly to order (medium). I did find that my order of shrimp wasn't fully prepared and I found a hard piece of the carapace in my mouth. Now, the overall experience wasn't terrible, but it was also nothing special. The food was good and I would opt go back on another night of the week when they had the service a little more together.

For being in Downtown Bellevue- this is a good value. It is a fun dining experience where the chief will cook your food directly in front of you. I recommend upgrading the rice to fried rice for $4.00 as it is fun to see how the fried rice is made- complete with egg and all-. Be prepared fire and entertainment from the chief. The chicken entree includes a nice side of veggies, good portion of rice and two chicken fillets. This meal can easily be split between 2 and for $15.00 (with rice upgrade) this would not be a horrible value. Drinks are expensive (around $3.00 for soda) and adult drinks are at least $8.00 and seem small in size. The weird aspects of this location is that the seating is essentially a large square table with the cooking in the middle. You will likely have people you do not know as part of your table.

We have come here many times over the past three years and have always enjoyed the food and the show. Today there were a few things lacking. The fried rice which is a great extra wasn't as well seasoned as it has been. My to be medium rare steak was still very good even though it was well done. Lastly the onions, zucchini and mushrooms could have cooked longer. We watched another chef cook for a different table. He used butter and different seasonings.

They have a free underground parking garage called Elements (P1-P2) for their customers. We came in for the teppanyaki dinner. We were immediately greeted by our server Kevin and led to the table. The restaurant is very modern with neon lights changing around the table edges. They also had a tree with purple lights around its branches. The restaurant looked clean but it was pretty dim. They have rectangular grills with the table around it. They sat us with 2 other parties. My sister ordered the New York steak and chicken and I ordered New York Steak and razor clams $27. We shared an order of California roll $6 (about 7 pieces) and an Italian raspberry soda. The dinners came with bowl of rice or had an option of upgrading to fried rice for an extra $3. We were also served miso soup, and a small salad. The soup was a bit salty and the salad was ok. The NY steak was perfectly cooked per our request of medium rare. The razor clams and chicken was ok. The chef was engaging and fun to watch as he cooked our orders. The service was great and our waiter kept refilling our waters as well as checking in to make sure dinner was good. Overall the diner was a solid 4. The total bill was about $70 for 2 dinners, California roll and one Italian soda. Since we had a dinner Groupon, it was reasonable. Otherwise it would have been a pricey dinner.
