The food was great! The sushi rice is just perfect. I had two rolls of sushi and some nigiri. Walk 2 minute from my house I'll definitely go back every week! Service was ok.

Going to Seattle I was expecting some killer sushi being that it's on the water AND closer to Japan than most every other state in the US. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. We went here due to the great reviews on Yelp and walked in around 7 on a Monday, only to find that there was only one other couple there. I got the Chicken Teriyaki + 5 pieces of sushi combo and my husband ordered a roll and several other pieces of sushi. While the sushi wasn't bad it also wasn't incredibly flavorful. The teriyaki was really great but I feel that I could have gotten something better at one of the simply titled "Teriyaki" places. Service was good, but again, there was only one other couple there. If you're looking for a quick sushi fix or just a quick dinner then this is the place for you but if you're expecting high grade sushi in Bellevue, go to Seastar two blocks away.

We are frequent sushi lunchers around Bellevue and since we hadn't been to this place, we decided to walk the 3 blocks from out office and try it. It was OK, at best. The place was packed when we got there, which is ususally a good sign. We ordered right away and they brought out miso soup and water. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. We waited for our sushi for 35-40 minutes and the place had been dead for a while. The sushi came and it was good but definitely nothing special. We ate in 10 minutes since we had to be back to work. I probably wouldn't come here again.

Sushiya is a typical Korean owned sushi restaurant located in downtown Bellevue. The menu is maki and combo focused and the food is very mediocre and unmemorable. I came for dinner on a Saturday evening and there was only one other table occupied for the whole time I was there (usually a red flag for a sushi restaurant since low traffic usually = unfresh sashimi). They only serve obscure sake brands in colorful small bottles so I didn't risk ordering any in fear that it may taste worse than the $8 giant size sake that I use for cooking. First came the miso soups, which was MSG tasting and barely had anything in it besides soup...where's the wakame, negi, or tofu? Then the chirashi and rolls arrived, both loaded with mountains of ginger, daikon shreds and fake wasabi to make portion look large when it really was not. The fish variety in the chirashi was boring. And what was most upsetting to me was, the spicy tuna maki, which usually tastes best when ordered at a Korean owned sushi restaurant, was bland and NOT spicy. I would normally give this restaurant one star based on its food...but our waitress was friendly (although she was chatting loudly on the phone most of the time), so here's one more star.

Just walked several blocks to try out Sushiya for the first time. Nothing special about the interior except they had the Champions League game on, which is always nice. The wait staff was friendly and attentive if not a bit clumsy. The lunch menu was pretty standard for a midrange sushi place. The sushi combos (5,7,10 piece) all came with just miso. I opted for the special 5-piece sushi with teriyaki chicken for $10.95. The miso and green tea I ordered arrived first. The sushi arrived 5 minutes later. It was shrimp, krab (stringy pollock with red dye on it), salmon (decent but Costco quality), ahi and albacore. All pieces were medium-sized and very thin. The salmon was the best of them all, the stringy krab the worst (in fact bad). I finished my hor d'oeuvre-sized sushi and waited 10 minutes for my teriyaki to come out. While waiting I was given a check for another table. Oops. The teriyaki was a good sized plate of thiny sliced chicken. The sauce was tasty and the salad was chopped romaine instead of the typical iceberg. I'd rate the teriyaki a solid 6 out of 10. No at good as the place 2 blocks from my office. When I went to pay I noticed a $.50 charge for green tea. That's the first time I've been dinged for a typically complimentary tea in a long time. I guess you could call it the icing on the Sushiya cake. With a better sushi place across the street from my office and GINZA, a truly amazing sushi place just a mile away, I see no reason to return to Sushiya. At Ginza you get far better sushi for less money and their complimentary green tea is superior. Lesson to learn here - go the extra 6 blocks or so and enjoy a much better lunch at a much better value.

I was introduced to this place by some friends and I just fell in love with it. It's a great little place to stop in and get some great sushi just out of sight in downtown Bellevue.

Sushiya have become my favorite sushi restaurant. I keep coming back to this place even though it's almost 40 minutes away from where I live. Service is always great. It can be a bit slow when they are full but it's always worth the wait. I recently went to Blue Fin sushi and although it's not fair to compare the sushi quality from a buffet to Sushiya, I could see and taste the difference. Tuna is bright red compared to pink frozen tuna from other places. Don't even get me started on salmon. I was lucky enough to visit Sushiya when the chef was filleting the fresh salmon one day and I watched in awe. Their side dishes are pretty amazing too. You should definitely visit this place and ask the chef to surprise you. You're in for a pleasant surprise.

Great happy hour, but should have more variety on the menu. 7$ Kirin beer pitcher, wow, can't beat that!! Good service, reasonable price, fresh sushi.

Good lunch option or a quick pick up to take home right after work. Rolls are solid and this place is my second preference after "Rolls and Rolls + Sushi". (For other types of sushi/other japanese fare, totally for Ginza!) I've had a couple really pleasant lunches here, the service has always been friendly and I've never had any issues with my orders be they sit down or takeout. This would put it at about 3 stars in my book, maybe 3.5. BUT AS YOU CAN SEE THERE ARE FOUR UP THERE. Why? This is the FIRST place I've seen out here since I've moved from Boston that has SWEET POTATO TEMPURA ROLLS!!!! I was tempted to give them 5 stars just for this! Man, I've missed these little vegitarian delights! Warm and gooey and crunchy in the center with the cooler temp rice around it is just soooooooo good. These are ubiquitous at sushi joints around Boston known as "idaho maki". What's wrong with you Seattle??! Get them. Just do it.

This is decent lunch fare. I usually get the bento box with chicken teriyaki and a California roll. There is nothing that stands out at this restaurant but the food is tasty and I think the prices are reasonable. I've only had the sushi once and it was passable but I wouldn't put it on my list of top sushi joints. You're not going to walk out saying this is the best restaurant ever but you'll be satisfied with your meal.

This place is absolutely fantastic! The food is amazing and the service is just out of this world. Food may seem little bit pricey, but trust me, it is totally worth it. If this place was close to my house, I would go at least once every other week. Go sushiya!!

  • Tyler M.

I love Sushiya!! While working to build the Metro 112 Apartments right around the corner my co-workers and I would go here at least once a week. Their Pork Teriyaki is as good as it gets. Many times i would opt for the bento box which adds tasty california roll and gyoza. Sushiya is the one thing I miss about no longer working in Bellevue. Thsi place is really busy during lunch so i would reccomend calling in an order to go if you are in a hurry.

I have to give it 5. I am somewhat stingy with this rating but I think its a great place. Been there 9 years from what I am told. I went today with my GF for lunch around 1:15pm and there were none of the aforementioned lines. Grabbed a seat right at the bar so we could request stuff. I wont say that it was that cheap, but certainly fair in pricing. We ordered the 5piece and 7 piece nigiri sampler. They were cool with substituting the shrimp with salmon but really should have dropped the Kani (fake crab meat) since it could have flavorings and I did mention I have a shellfish allergy. However since I have a GF who likes that, no problem there. I really enjoyed the flavors, and the place was really clean. I think it was good value for the occasional lunch for me but probably more than I want to spend everyday. Of course the saki was 7 so drop that and it becomes much cheaper. Over all I really recommend this place and think I will certainly be back. Nice people, good food and it has the feel of a family business which just seems rare anymore. Go there!

I live in the building, and this sushi joint was a selling point for me. Good sushi for a great price. It's the kind of place where everyone knows your name. There's a crowd of regulars... basketball players, 20-somethings, and there's always a table of Japanese speaking clientele (which lends credibility in my eyes). Lunch is always busy, and dinner is a little more low key. A large flat screen which is always tuned to "the game". Want to see something else? Just as Jamin, he'll change it for you. And the sushi chef will chat if you saunter up to the counter alone. Sake, and all the basic bar stuff.

Went here for the 1st time today (Tuesday) for lunch. It took a bit to be acknowledged and seated but when they did the (obviously family-run) waitstaff were very friendly and cheery. It wasn't that busy either as we went a little bit after the lunch rush and there was at least 1/4 of the tables open. I was pleasantly surprised to see a good lunch menu with sushi as well as bentos and cooked meals - something for everyone! The lunch specials (a good variety) ranged from $7-$10 and sushi rolls at a good price from $5 to $10. I ordered the tempura/teriyaki bento for $10.95 (which comes with miso, salad, rice, 2 gyoza and choice of ca roll or tuna sashimi) and a yellowtail roll ($5). And I was double pleasantly surprised when they brought the food out and the portions were pretty good! The yellowtail roll was so fresh and a good helping of yellowtail (I hate it when you get a skinny roll with mostly rice and a sliver of fish). The bento also had a pretty good helping of each - although I think adding another shrimp tempura would have been nice. The tempura was not too oily and the panko was the authentic really flakey type. I actually had to bring home leftovers. Although, I have tasted better teriyaki - but I'm also very particular about teriyaki and prefer the Hawaii type that I grew up with. Service was slow, inattentive, but friendly. My lunch date and I already made plans to go back next week and try something else. She had 3 different sushi rolls and each one she loved. One of them was the Tootsie Roll - deep fried spicy tuna roll. She said that it was really good and really filling. Deep fried spicy tuna?! What?! How much better does it get? Other: there's free 2hr parking under the building. Restaurant is run by Japanese - I always feel better when the cooks & owners are of the same ethnicity as the food they make. And the food was pretty authentic Japanese. EDIT: Restaurant is run by Korean though I think maybe the sushi chef is Japanese? I don't know... wuh-wuh. Oh well! They do a pretty good job anyway.

This place is a hidden gem. Away from some of the other lunch spots, Sushiya is in the bottom corner of new apartment building. I came a couple weeks ago with few coworkers. I ordered the Rainbow roll. The rainbow roll is one of my favorite rolls because it comes with so many types of fish on top and I'm always curious to order it at new places to see how it compares. It was delicous and just the right amount of food. My coworkers both got the daily lunch special which was 7 pieces of sushi and a california roll. Their's was also delicious but maybe a little too much food, But the special was a great deal and I almost wish I had gotten it too. But mine was also yummy. I want to go back. I love sushi and this is close to work. The staff is friendly and the place is cute. If you don't like sushi they have a big menu with lots of nonfishy items.

This place was just ok. It didn't wow us, but it was decent. We got a few orders of sushi and felt like the portions were pretty small. We actually left still feeling hungry and had a snack when we got home. We probably won't go back again. There are just way better places to dine at.

Sushiya in Downtown Bellevue is one of our choice lunch spots for their good food, clean and cozy dining room, and friendly owner/servers who treat you well. It's a suitable place to take coworkers who are not sushi fans (augh) as they will find quality Teriyaki dishes, katsu, soups, and other Japanese basics while you indulge in sushi. I'll be clear: This is NOT a greasy teriyaki joint that happens to offer sushi on their menu. Sushiya uses a better choice of lean beef and chicken in their Teriyaki dishes. They offer a Low-Carb Special - stir fry vegetables with your choice of meat and a side of ginger, no rice - a fave for my carb-counting friends. For those needing your Omega 3s, the Salmon Teriyaki is a great choice - but on a rare occasion it has been overcooked a bit. As a sushi-lover, I particularly enjoy the Spicy Tuna Roll and the Baked Scallop. If you can't decide between a teriyaki entre or sushi - order Bento Box with choice Teriyaki and either California Roll or Sashimi. Salad, rice, and gyoza also included in the Bento. Work week lunches are busy here - call ahead if you have a group more than 4. Arrive before 12 or after 1, and you can avoid the crowd.

i was shocked... the food was excellent, i eat sushi at least once a week and everywhere i travel i always find a sushi joint. For Bellevue this place is great, the uni was really fresh and firm, unlikely many places ive been to. Im usually not a big fan of rolls but i had my friends cucumber lover roll and it was amazing. Since i just moved here, im happy to have a place like this so close to me.

I've been coming in for lunch/take out off and on for almost 2 years. This is a solid place to go for some lunch time sushi. The fish has always been very fresh and the service is pretty quick. Lunch time always draws a large crowd so plan accordingly or wait. As mentioned, this is a family run business and they even happen to be Japanese. Imagine that! However no one seems to want to talk in Japanese (of course I'm not that good) but haven't sat at the counter where I'm guessing it would be the best bet for some Japanese conversation. I seem to always get the 7 piece lunch special with california roll anymore and never been punked on the chief selected sushi. It's always been good selections and fresh.

  • Bill S.

This is a smaller, family run place, with beautiful sushi and sashimi! The teryaki is not half bad either. Service suffers during the busy lunch hour but other then that I can only say good things. The quality of the sushi and sashimi is impeccable. They run some nice specials at lunch for between $7-10.

After reading some great reviews from fellow yelpers, we decided to give this restaurant a try on Monday night. The absence of a crowd should have tipped us off for what was to come. First, the good. Host and Server was extremely nice, polite, and had a great smile. He even gave us all miso soup whether or not we ordered a dinner. That was cool. It went all down hill afterwards. We ordered their sashimi A combo, chicken teriyaki with sushi combo, tempura udon, grilled salmon, and teriyaki beef dinner. Both the chicken and beef teriyaki were prepared like what you would find at your local "XXXX Teriyaki" joint. I was expecting a nice piece of grilled steak with a teriyaki drizzle, but I was instead given thin piece of meat, pan-fried, chopped up, then drizzled with a teriyaki sauce. The chicken was treated the same way. Meh. Nothing inspiring. The Udon broth was bland as was the sushi/sashimi. I don't know how one could serve bland fish, but Sushiya managed to achieve this. Lastly, maybe the ownership changed since last August, but the new owners are definitely Korean, not Japanese. Not that it would make a difference, but from my experience, I get better fish quality from the Japanese-owned establishments. Overall, this was a disappointing experience. I would have gladly paid a bit more for better food. Buck up and go to Izumi instead.

This place was kitty corner from my old office building. As such, I used to eat here pretty regularly when I was in Bellevue. The service is quick, it's never packed and the food seems fresher than most. I can only get either the veggie rolls (they offer a few options) or the stir-fried tofu and vegetables, but it's decent. Prices are reasonable and the staff are SUPER nice.

Ok, so a year ago I Yelped Sushiya. I was in last night and decided I should update. I still LOVE this place! I'm in at least twice a month either for a girls night at the sushi bar or with the fam and friends. We've been going in for two years now and we still don't know their names and they don't know ours (ok, so the Fish Doctor calls my daughter "Princess" which just makes her blush with pleasure everytime) but they're always so happy to see us. If I'm in with the fam, they know our fav spot is in front of the tv and they automatically change the channel to Disney to accomodate our daughter. When I'm in for girls night at the sushi bar, we call the chef the Fish Doctor which he loves and always knows our order. They're always so friendly and happy no matter how busy they are and the food is ALWAYS soooo great. For our daughter's birthday last year, they brought out every flavor of Mochi for her, on the house. How cool is that? And every visit that she's there, she sits at the sushi bar for 5 minutes and the Fish Doctor goes to work pointing out all the fish and other sushi things he has in the bar. Bottom line, this is def a great place for sushi and apps. And if you have a child, what better entertainment than tv and raw fish? 1/4/08 Excellent place to eat whether you're into sushi or not. Recommendations: Adamame (sp?), Agadashi tofu, Gyoza (wow!), Tempura Shrimp Rolls, California Rolls, Tootsie Rolls and the Pork Teriyaki (ask for it spicy and there's nothing like it!) Great selection of Sake. Lunchtime tends to be busy with the same excellent food but a little slower on the service. Dinnertime is much better. It's usually half full, you can sit at the sushi bar if it's a small group and the sushi chef is cool to watch and he jokes around with you if he's not too busy. They've also got a flat screen mounted on a wall and usually turned to the news or sports. The service is excellent and they really do cater to your every need. It's not often an Asian restaurant has great service on top of excellent food.

We were greeted when we entered and seated immediately. The staff was very friendly and wanted us to have a good time. The food was a tad salty (as seafood sometimes is) but fresh and very good. Overall a quiet, family friendly place that I enjoyed taking my wife to after a long day. We will definitely go back when we are in the area.

This place is great. It's family owned, the sushi chef is very sweet and makes bomb rolls. Full bar (inexpensive) and great, low key vibe. I recommend this place two folds over!

I came here yesterday with some close friends for happy hour. It is literally one hour from 5-6. The deal is a pitcher of beer for $7 or $2 for a pint as well as a happy hour sushi plate for $6. I ordered a pitcher for myself and beef teriyaki. The food was pretty good! It is a tad pricey but the quality was much better than your usual teriyaki place. I would definitely come here again.

The place had good sushi. It was cozie and quiet would have loved to take my wife there for a quiet dinner. Service was quick and the server was very polite and accommodating to a request on a substitution. I definitely will keep this place in mind for future trips.

Great portions, reasonable price, and surprisingly taste despite the ratings. Ordered the pork teriyaki bento with sushi rolls and was satisfied after the meal. I must admit though that the pork teriyaki flavors was slightly unauthentic but tasty regardless! Here are the components breakdown of the pork teriyaki bento: Miso Soup (3): Flavorwise, it was there. but it JUST didn't have any tofu or green scallions or seaweed! It was purely liquid so that was a slight disappointment. Fried gyoza (5): WOW. talk about making sure the fully deep fried the gyoza to perfection. Honestly, chances are they didn't make the gyoza themselves but hey, it tasted great and it had the perfect crunch to it. California Roll (4): it was simple, not a lot of filling but there was like 8 pieces which was way more than i expected. Pork teriyaki (4): Again, not truly authentic, but the flavors were incredibly tasty and the amount they gave was plentiful. It was good! Overall, I will always be down to come back here. Their portions are so generous and I was happy to devour that bento in front of me!

  • Alissa L.

I went here for lunch, and just wanted something simple so I got the tofu with vegetables. I was expecting some veggies like carrots or mushrooms or even broccoli, but the only vegetables in the dish were onions and lettuce. The tofu was so-so, it was deep-fried but very bland. The miso soup served before my meal was a little too salty for me and didn't have any tofu or seaweed in it. :( Overall, it wasn't terrible but definitely mediocre.

    (3)
  • Belle G.

Very disappointed. For the price I expected better food. We got the fried tofu, pork teriyaki, and lion roll which were all previously recommended, and the footsie roll as well. The best out of everything was the fried tofu. The lion roll all fell apart because it stuck to the foil it was cooked on, the pork was cold. The server was nice. I also thought the music a little loud, but that's just me. Maybe I wouldn't have minded if I came for lunch, but I didn't, we came for dinner and spent about $40 on very eh food. Wouldn't come back.

  • Paul H.

Read the reviews and ordered the teriyaki pork, lion king roll, fried tofu, and the tootsie roll. Everything was just blah. Tootsie roll just fell apart, even when I could get a whole piece in my mouth I just felt like I should have ordered something else. Would not eat here again.

  • Sara V.

When we went here we had the spider roll, the spicy tuna roll, the tempura, and tofu vegetable. The spider roll was flavorless, the spicy tuna roll was good but personally too spicy (it just burned my mouth-and usually I love super spicy), the tempura batter was very good, but the vegetable in it were not. Asparagus and broccoli should not be in tempura I found out but the shrimp and sweet potato in it was good. The tofu vegetable was overcooked and soggy like a gross brown pile of mush. Overall disappointing and the service was very slow. Would not go here again. The only good things about the meal was that the wasabi was very spicy and the miso broth as the appetizer was pretty good.

I work pretty close to Sushiya and it's a good option to grab a quick lunch to go. As a vegetarian, the options are a little limited when it comes to sushi, but Sushiya has a few options (which is better than none). The sushi that I've tried has been okay -- nothing too fancy or out of this world. Worth checking out for lunch if you're craving Japanese food.

  • Jacqueline T.

Currently just mediocre for lunch. But man, they have a cute badass orange bear tthat comes with the volcano roll ;) haha view pics for details. Got a bento box (price isn't a steal $12-13) for a beef and tempura combo with sashimi. The highlight of the lunch was the orange bear... and the two slices of sashimi that came with it. My tempura was not hot, but my beef was actually cold :( Two slices of gyoza's were meh. Seriously not memorable at all... except that my food was not at its ideal serving temperature. So maybe I ordered wrong. The specialty volcano roll was decent. The sauces are very flavorful, so its hard to go wrong with that. And the slices of orange are tres sweet! I will give it a try again, but right now.. its not worth it. The orange bear... on the other hand.. sooo cuteeee!

    (3)
  • Jerry T.

The staff was wonderful and nice. the food on the other hand was mediocre. I chose the teriyaki pork, simple dish but just executed poorly. The meat was chopped so small, eating it was it was a chore. I felt like I was given scraps, most teriyaki places you get a piece of meat cut into slices. The bento that I ordered was just sad. I work just across the street and will give this another try. fingers crossed

The couple of times I've been to Sushiya, I've had a great dining experience! As mentioned by another yelper, the orange bear is the cherry on top. ;) It's a small family run restaurant. It's not a fancy place but they do make sure the quality of the sushi is good. And as for the complaint about prices... I felt that they offered a very fair price for Bellevue, Actually, with some dishes that had huge portions, I thought the price was very cheap. I love that I can tell the sushiman to create a dish for me and he will. He found out that I love Hawaiian Poke and next time I was in, he remembered and whipped it up for me! (thus far, outside of Hawaii, Sushiya made the best Poke. I think the freshness of the tuna made the huge difference). There is some parking available in the garage.

We found this place using Yelp app. I found this place to be just okay. Compared to the Japanese restaurants in Vancouver, this place is expensive for what they were and the service very sporadic. I am not sure if this was just an off night for them but we had to wait for out water and teas and nobody really came by to check on us. As for the food, a sake roll was $5.50 for 6 pieces and they weren't even wild salmon. They even charged 50 cents for a cup of tea. Overall, we weren't that impressed. The only thing they really had going for them was the proximity from our hotel.

I am surpised to see that some Yelpers had such bad experiences at Sushiya. I believe Sushita is the best Sushi on the eastside. The sushi is fresh as you can find anywhere. This is not some low-end conveyer belt sushi establishment. Of course things can happen in a restaurant, long waits or slow service but I don't feel like Sushiya is getting the credit it deserves. There isn't a sushi spot on the Eastside that comes close to the quality. The unagi is the best I have tasted. Oysters are fresh. Every roll I have tried is amazing. If you are in need of a good sushi restuarant, Sushiya is the way to go. I would suggest giving it a try for yourself before you write it off due to a few bad reviews. Of course I am not discounting other people's opinions, I just think that Sushiya deserves more credit for the product they put out on a daily basis. I have dined at Sushiya since 2002, and it still is the best sushi I have had on the eastside. Sushimaru, Blue C Sushi, and Sushi Yama are like the Honda DX's in the sushiworld. Sushiya is the Ferrarri or Mercedes S class of quality sushi. Here is my suggestion to the perfect meal at Sushiya: 1) Oysters 2) Salmon Skin Handroll 3) Ungai nigiri 4) CATERPILLAR Roll 5) Dragon Roll 6) Nabe Udon Order Kirin and small saki, and you shall have a great night. Sushiya still putting out the best sushi I have eaten on the eastside, give it a try. - A loyal Sushiya customer

Lion roll recommended, spicy tuna not so much. Quiet ambience and pleasing music at dinner time. Could be a good date spot!

Sushiya is a nice little sushi spot in Bellevue kind of just on the outskirts of downtown. They have a great lunch specials (so great I feel like if I don't go for lunch that I'm not getting a very good deal! ha!), offer to go service, and the food here is pretty good too. When I went in semi-recently, we had great waiter service and they were very accommodating to our needs and requests even serving us items not on the menu. Everything seemed to be handled with care and there were no messy rolls or anything like what happens in some sushi spots. The tempura shrimp were nice and crunchy and well-cooked as well. This isn't a really fancy sushi spot or one with lots of other Japanese items on the menu (think Ginza), but it's more for a quick, delicious fix. Just thinking about their bento boxes and other tasty treats is putting me in a mood for sushi even though it's just past 7 in the morning!! I'd definitely recommend this place for lunch especially.

This is the best sushi place I have ever been to, and lucky for me is across from my work so the best part of my day is on the days I treat myself to this place for lunch. The quality and attention to detail and overall flavor of every dish is excellent. Sushi is never stale or bland, perfect flavor and freshness each time. Some items may be a bit pricy but you get what you pay for. I usually either get the beef or beef/chicken bento box with cali roll, or on sushi days I get the spicy tuna roll and seaweed salad and sometimes spider roll. Beef is grilled to perfection, juicy and tender and bursting with flavor. Cali rolls are well balanced and light. Grilled potstickers/gyoza is also delicious.

This place was a fun little find. I was in Bellevue on business and didn't realize it was Restaurant Week. So most of the hot spots were booked up. We pulled up yelp on the iPhone and looked for places in the area and found Sushiya. Now, first of all, the menu listed on yelp was NOT the one we were presented with. But turned out just fine. The place is super casual..paper laminated menus, vinyl tablecloths. But the food was amazing. We ordered the calimari as an appetizer and it wasnt the traditional kind. It was sprinkled with breading, but the tentacles and texture of the octopus was fully visible. And let me tell you right now...so tender, so perfect, so delicious. I could've had a whole other plate on my own. YUM I also ordered a few rolls and they were delish as well. Loved this gem!!

Decent lunch spot for Bellevue. The rolls are a bit expensive, but it's Bellevue afterall. I've had their Caterpillar roll and the House Tempura roll on two different occasions and they were both quite good. The service is pleasant and fairly fast.

this seems like a great lunch time place if you work in the area. it's pretty small inside and was fairly busy when i walked in. but they turn tables swiftly and i was seated inside in a pinch. there is a pretty good selection and given the weather, i decided on a bowl of udon. it came out in a clay bowl and was piping hot. it was pretty large and the broth was well done. i will admit there wasn't much of anything in the bowl besides udon and noodles, but considering it's less than $10, it's a good lunch choice. my friends had sushi samplers, which were huge. they were barely able to finish it for lunch. all in all, if you're in the area..but maybe not a place you go out of your way to get to.

I stopped in for lunch and was seated right away.... Then nobody ever came back. I was looking around after being there for 8 minutes and nothing. I just left because nothing is more irritating then being ignored.

Right of the back I knew I was doomed... The smell of burn in the air didn't please me one bit... Customer service was good, but the food... Look I'm gonna be nice but it was horrible... They have standard sushi nothing special... I ask her for her best roll and she gave me a spicy tuna roll WOW!!! No lie ate the lil I order and I'm sitting in a different sushi restaurant writing this review...

This place is where me & my friends like to go for lunches. I prefer their rolls over sushi. I've tried almost all of their rolls and it was SUPER good. Also, their tempura is quite tasty. It's really crunchy and doesn't have too much bread on the shrimp and the vegetables. On the other hand, the place is a little bit chargy. They charge you on a cup of tea and gives a little bit of food compared to the price. Honestly, aren't most Japanese restaurants like that? I mean, a lot of other places cost you more than the food they give you. Anyways, I think this is the place where you can come with your friends and enjoy a adequate lunch.

Been here for lunch close to a dozen times and the food is consistently good. I think the prices are decent for Bellevue and the food you get. Staff is always friendly and prompt (never waited too long for food!) especially the Sushi chef at the bar, that guy is cool! Unlike the other reviewer, I really like their bento box. Just go with the chicken teriyaki and california roll. Leaves me satisfied every time! Nigiri lunch special is a good deal too.

The place is a little hidden, with only a sign outside with "Sushi" written on it to advertise it's presence. Went there for lunch and got the sashimi and sushi combo set A as well as a spider roll. The sushi was good, but the sashimi was particularly delicious. Had a high quality silky texture. The service is good, but they seemed to be slightly understaffed. We had to wait 30-40 minutes for the food, but it was worth it. Prices are a little pricey.

So-So-Soooooo boring. This place ended up being a random pick for us, for a quick sushi dinner before heading out on a trip. The boyfriend and I had ordered a standard sashimi set. Most of the pieces were well cut and tender but still had a bit of a chewiness factor. Then there were the two pieces that were just plain un-chewable. We also ordered two different rolls, both came packed with rice and veggie. The place also serves Korean hotpot in case you want a little fusion to your palate. Good service, but nothing made the food stand out for us here.

Lunch review: I always order from the white board. There's a 5 piece sushi with plain udon special and a 7-piece sushi with california roll... and I usually order one or the other for $12-13. Sushi tastes better than all the conveyor sushi places around, but its more spendy. One time I came in for a late lunch and the sushi chef was on break, and I had to order kitchen food. Popular restaurant, but I've never had to wait for a table. Great places for lunch meetings. There's a happy hour too, but I've never been here outside of lunch.

If I could have posted 0 stars I would have. My sister and I went here and ordered $48 worth of food to go. I understand when busy maybe 20-25 mins. It took almost an hour to get our To Go food. Lunch breaks are not longer than an hour unless you create your own schedule which I do not. Hearing sorry sorry sorry does not make up for it. Not offering to refund some of the money not free anything puts a super bitter taste in my mouth. Also I ordered a roll that had smoked salmon... well it was not really smoked. It tasted more raw than anything. I will never ever come back to this place again. EVER.

My grandmother lives in the condos above Sushiya, so I've eaten here approximately 900 times over the past eight years. It's just so easy to meet her downstairs for a quick lunch or dinner, and it's gotten to the point where I feel like Sushiya is our own private yummy dining room. I don't even look at the menu anymore. I say something like "Can I have tuna and avocado, and then something with salmon and I don't know something else, like maybe albacore? And more avocado or cucumber or something?" and then I get an amazing assortment of exactly what I wanted to eat. Real wasabi and tons of fresh ginger on each plate. Teriyaki and stir fry dishes are good, and tempura is light and crunchy, not greasy and gross. Friendly family service, and even if you have to ask for refills on your tea it won't ruin your meal. Really consistently delicious food with large portions, and since it's never really crowded you can take your time and just hang out if you want.

4 stars for food only, but I'm giving Sushiya 3 stars due to bad service. I had to wait for the waiter, because he was watching TV. Also, he asked me how everything was while I was in the middle of biting into a piece of sushi. Not sure why he couldn't wait a few extra seconds. Overall, I thought the food was above average. I ordered both the Spider Roll and the House Roll. The Spider Roll was good, but for most bites, it was hard to taste the soft shell crab. The House Roll was very good; and surprisingly the cream cheese works. The cost of both rolls after tax was just under $30.

I enjoy visiting Sushiya because it's right down the street from where I live, and since I do not know how to make sushi, it's slowly becoming my goto location for a quick fix. A lot of their offerings are very fresh, though the prices might be on the pricey side. While a lot of the more popular japanese sushi restaurants in the area have the conveyor belt style sushi, where you get to see the food before you can eat it, this place takes it back old school, where you just have to know what's good before you order. The last three times I've been here, I've order the sashimi plate, I've come to appreciate it a lot here. Also, The service here is really nice and chill, they aren't eager to get their business to you and get you out of there, and the area is pretty laid back that I can stay there and relax for a little bit longer than usual. Last I remembered there was a happy hour here and they offered pretty good deal on pitchers of beer. I'm not sure if it was asahi or sapporo, but I definitely plan to make it back for that soon.

Stinker of a restaurant. Should have stayed away when there was NO ONE seated at 8 pm. Decided to give it a try, because of several favorable reviews on Yelp. The rolls were sloppy, not pleasing to the eye. The fish was reasonable fresh, but presentation is at least half of the experience when eating sushi. Mu hubs loves calamari. Could not eat it, so rubbery. Next time I'll follow my instincts and go elsewhere.

I enjoyed coming in here. Their prices are pretty damn affordable (sake nigiri for 3.75, albacore for the same, toro for $9 - market price, lunch entrees starting at 7.95) and the food ain't half bad. The service was friendly enough without being startling over friendly. I went with my bestie around lunch hour so it was packed with the corporate crowd (man, did we stick out like sore thumbs or what?) but they provided equal service to both types. They were a little slow to get our drink orders but I wasn't dying of parched thirst or anything so it was quite alright by me. Portions were decent [ slab of salmon was rather small for me but considering I also ordered sushi I was quite satisfied ]. Sushi rice was pretty yummy, and the fish quality was decent. Nothing was OMG SO BUTTERY that it melted in my mouth but you know for 3.75$ for two, I couldn't rightly complain. ( Note: this is like Hana Sushi on Broadway prices, but infinitely better ) Oh! And my friend got the caterpillar roll - and it was topped with avocado AND eel. How bizarre is that? But I love eel (and so does she!) so no complaints there. I enjoyed eating here, and even though the food wasn't spectacular - I feel like its on par with Ginza [ cringes - don't burn me for making the generalization ] and the prices are so much better. Then again, sometimes I just want good food for a pretty great price. And you can get that here. P.s. I hate that this doesn't have pictures so I'm going to post some that I managed to snap with my dying battery camera! Hurrah!

So I was a frequenter to this place in the past. I work very close to this restaurant, and therefore this place came in handy when I was hungry, had a hankering' for Japanese food, and needed something close. My last visit to this place, was definitely going to be the last time I will ever go to this place. Let me explain. Although the food is usually quite good, (I'd rate the actual food quality and taste a 3/5), I've witnessed the sanitary cleanliness go down to what is now just terrible. My last visit not only had water that smelled like dish soap, but it had the previous ladies customers lipstick on the glass. The Miso soup also tasted of dish soap as well. And lastly, as the sunlight glistened off the dishes, I could see everyone's greasy finger prints on the dish as well. Appetizing? Not hardly. I told the waitress this, and she didn't seem very sympathetic to my circumstance, so before I left to pay the bill, I spoke with the manager/owner there, and all she did was apologize, and hand me my bill. Yes, one simple "So sorry. Will try to do better next time". I wasn't expecting a free compensated meal, but I was expecting a more sincere display of sorrow. But she showed none. I'm sorry, I would not, and could not recommend this restaurant's lunch. This is sad, as I always did like this place a lot. And I've been going there ever since they've opened, back in '03ish. But the cleanliness and the quality of the food is just not what it was. I am not giving this place a 1 star, as I would rather try to be as fair as possible. After all, I never did see a rat, or roaches there. So....a two star it is. -j

Walking distance from Red lion. Very nice Neighborhood sushi spot in Bellevue. We had a selection of Sashimi and Sushi, Tuna, Snapper, Salmon, Shrimp, Kids had Avocado Rolls, we also enjoyed a Soft Shell Crab app, Edamame, and a Tootsie rool. The last two pieces of sushi were the best, Yellowtail and Raw Scallops...OMG. Pitcher of Kirin for $13. nice service.

No no no, just no. Went for dinner at 6:30 on a Saturday night, two other people in the restaurant. We thought well, maybe it's just a lunch place, no. Food was awful. We had several different rolls of sushi, the tempora ones were cold (crunchy roll). The chicken katsu was cold and gross. Beef teriyaki was dry and cold. They were out of tofu... But happened to have tofu for a dinner dish because they have it pre made in a separate container, the waiter said. The tofu dish was frozen when it came to the table. There was not anything on the table worth eating. None of my party of 5 left and went somewhere else for dinner.

Sushiya has delicious food! My husband and I came here on a Monday night. Our first impression of the restaurant was not good at all, because there seemed to be no waiter at all. We waited for a long time while no one came to take our order, not even to give us any water. We felt frustrated and annoyed. I regretted coming to this place and thought about walking out. Service is very important to me. After awhile, the man behind the sushi bar came by and said that he would help us in just a moment. Finally the guy at the counter who seated us came to take our order. I cut them some slack because it looked like they were understaffed and the guy apologized for the long wait. Also, the food here is delicious. But I would've given them 4 or 5 stars if the service was better. They have green tea for only 50 cents and unlimited refills. I ordered the seaweed salad and the dragon roll. Both items were absolutely heaven for my taste buds! My husband ordered the chicken teriyaki and the portion was generous. My husband said the teriyaki was absolutely delicious. Both of our ordered came with miso soup, which was also tasty. The prices here are inexpensive. The man behind the sushi bar is so friendly. He thanks and says goodbye to every customer as they leave.

If I could give 0 stars I would for the service alone. Came here for lunch, waited an hour for sashimi and miso soup to arrive and then 20 more minutes for a sushi roll. Food ok, not worth the extra 90 minutes I'll have to spend working today.

We had two rolls and ordered two entrees. The rolls were good and would recommend again. The katsus were large dishes but the chicken and pork were sliced too thin which made the panko super thick. Too much crust which cut our mouth. The katsu sauce was too sweet and tasted like it had orange in it... Or ginger?! I would stick with just the sushi.

I happened to be in the E-side looking for a place to start with my list of" where to eat Japanese in the Seattle area". And this is my #1 place to visit. Ok folks, I never had bad Japanese food in the area, so I expect this place won't fail me. Don't expect a long review as I'm kinda lazy to think right now. First off, the interior of the place - it's the coziest I've ever been in a Japanese place, with curtains and lots of lights coming in from the windows. This is in a corner so you get a 180 degree view of 110th and 3rd. I went on a Tues early evening, it was just me and a couple on the other table so service was fast which I secretly expected for obvious reasons. The fish in the sashimi was fresh, I get free refills of the green tea. And oh, I love the background music! I think it was more on the Chill genre, and that's appropriate. Not much to it, but I enjoyed dining there. I'd go here if I have a choice between I Love Sushi and here mainly due to the price. But then I have yet to try other Japanese places in the area to make a fair comparison. If you just want to go someplace convenient in DT Bellevue, this one would fit you. Parking is also provided and that's a big plus. On to my #2 on the list...til next review!

I went to Sushiya on a very quite Saturday noon and was not too impressed by the quality of their sushis. First of all, I did not get the orange panda that was supposedly part of my sushi. (I love pandas and food art, you see.) That was one of the sole reasons I actually visited the place. They also did not have any form of fresh sashimi, nor a variety of sushis in their menu. They told me that they are more complete with their menus for dinner. Food was mediocre at best, they are owned by Koreans, not Japanese. Hence, explaining the very mainstream choices that they offer. Don't anyone find it ironic at the fact that many sushi joints in Bellevue are owned by Koreans? Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against them but I certainly find it odd. It wasn't cheap as well. My sushi order came with only 5 pieces of sushi and it was about $14 if I recall correctly. Very disappointing. My friends who were with me were disappointed with their food as well.

Yay! I'm a fan... pretty damn good. So I went here for lunch with my friend Kat L. and from what I ordered, I was pretty impressed. First glance the place is pretty modest, a small little spot with pretty decent prices. What impressed me the most were the cuts of fish. The nigiri were topped off with generous cuts of fish, the fish was pretty fresh and flavorful. I also had the katsudon bowl, the flavor was full and savory. I fully enjoyed it. Parking can be kind of a mess (as with alot of Bellevue) but overall not too bad since there is a garage you are allowed to park in if you are visiting the area businesses (though they could do better about marking it). Pretty fabulous and well worth the price of admission. pros: -big cuts of fish -flavorful dishes -decent prices cons: -pain in the ass for parking -small and slightly cramp all in all... 4 here-fishy-fishy-fishy-fishy stars out of 5

Great sushi at very, very reasonable prices, with free (and hassle free) parking in the downtown Bellevue core! Make sure to hit happy hour (a true hour, 5-6) for deals that are absolutely unbeatable. The dining room is nice, too. Doesn't feel like a teriyaki joint like so many do.

I went here for lunch. The atmosphere was relaxed and the staff was friendly. The sushi was very good, but the teriyaki salmon was not that good. It was not terrible though. I would go back for the sushi and skip on the hot dishes.

So....our usual sushi joint, The Tuna House was closed this evening (Monday) so we googled another sushi restaurant nearby in Bellevue. Sushiya seemed like our best option. Linen table clothes, warm waiter (great service) and our order was perfectly presented and delicious! Nothing out of the ordinary and sometimes, that's a good thing! Everything from edamame, agadashi tofu, yellow tail, crunchy roll and even the miso soup was delicious. The three of us (my husband and our visiting 12 year old grandson) were very happy to find Sushiya....and we'll return again and again!

Well this place was a pleasant surprise. I've been here twice and have so far had the tempura bento box with rice, gyoza, miso, salad, and (obviously) tempura....and the tempura udon. The bento was quite tasty, especially the tuna nigiri that came with it. The gyoza was nothing special, just normal pre-frozen gyoza. The Tempura was very nice, just the right amount of fried batter and crunch, without making the veggies soft. The prawns were on the smaller side, but I found them to be more flavorful than other places I have been to. The miso soup was very flavorful, however it lacked any seaweed, tofu, or onion. Great for cold days. The udon broth was also extremely tasty, some of the better broth I have had in Bellevue, while the noodles tasted very fresh. Not the spongy kind you can find at Blue C, or other commercial Japanese spots, but actually tasted fresh. However, the udon lacked ANY condiment. No onion, no fish cake, no seaweed...nothing. Literally just a big bowl with giant lid that gets your hopes up, and then....well....just soup and noodles. It was kind of jarring at first; like, wait...shouldn't there be something else here? Did I get the budget version? The tempura that came with the udon was of the same quality as the bento, very crunchy and satisfying. Again, prawns could be bigger but oh well. This is my new Japanese restaurant of choice, so check it out!

I discovered this small sushi restaurant on a lunch break a couple of days ago and was pleasantly surprised. While the menu offers your typical teriyaki fare, Sushiya stands out for having the tastiest Katsudon I've ever had. In addition, their sushi is extremely fresh and was some of the best I've had outside of Tokyo. Although the large portions, delicious food and friendly staff earn them 5 stars, the restaurant is plagued with one significant flaw - extremely slow service. Although it's worth it, be prepared for a length wait for everything from sushi to soda.

  • Jen P.

I work one block away so I hit up this place for lunch quite a bit. The sushi is fresh, the teriyaki is good, the service is fast and the prices are reasonable. I usually get the 5 piece sushi with chicken teriyaki (rice and salad) with miso soup for $10.95. I rarely finish it all and I'm always satisfied. You usually can get in and out pretty quick.

The reviews for this place were so mixed that I figured I needed to see for myself. We went there for dinner on a Friday night and I was surprised that the place was nearly empty and very quiet. Yet, I ended up liking it quite a lot. Here's why: - all the food was very fresh and tasty (the edamame was steaming hot!) - the prices were not too high - the portions were well-sized and nicely served Unlike some other reviewers, I really liked the sashimi I ordered. It was very fresh, nicely sliced, and beautifully presented. Even the ika was fresh and tasty (a rarity, in fact!). A couple of drawbacks: - slow service (come when you can really sit down and spend time there) - inexperienced staff (our waiter had a hard time getting the entire order down and we actually got one of the rolls for free because of that) - interior is simple, nothing to write home about - very small bar - the happy hour is 5-6PM, kinda short

This place is super close to work and it's pretty good for teriyaki bentos but I especially love their udon! I think it's called the nabe udon. There are lots of veggies and chicken in the udon and the noodles are very chewy (just the way I like them thick noodles.) But if you like teriyaki plates, they have a variety of combo plates that combine meat and California rolls/tuna sashimi, etc., that you can choose from and there are other noodle dishes too such as the yakisoba. But when I ordered the yakisoba for take-out, there was way too much chicken in it and I wasn't even expecting meat at all. The menu is kind of deceiving because they call it "vegetable yakisoba." But that didn't bother me too much. The service is very quick and friendly too! I think the restaurant is owned by Koreans... I never understood the connection between Koreans and Japanese food but oh well!

I don't usually eat out for lunch, but I had a lunch date with the BF and we decided on Sushiya, which is only a block away from where I work. The prices are definitely not bad. We ordered the chicken teriyaki (~8 bucks for lunch) and shrimp tempura roll. The chicken was tender and yummy. The portion was pretty big too so it was a good thing we shared. I definitely want to try the sashimi and their other entrees next time.

I usually come here for lunch and get their sushi special: a 7 piece sushi combo with a cali roll and miso soup for $7.95. Since the sushi and rolls at this place are top-notch, this is quite a deal. The rice is cooked to perfection, and as many sushi enthusiasts know, is what makes the difference between good sushi and great sushi. Top it off with some of the freshest fish and interesting roll choices and this has become my favorite lunch place while I'm up in Bellevue for business. The interior is nothing to write home about and a tad bit on the smallish side, but it is clean and comfortable and they have a friendly staff. Highly recommended!
