Once loved the chain and this one in particular. The food quality has deteriated so badly that I have decided to find another Mexican restaurant. Terribly disappointed to see a one time really nice place go down hill.

Fast food mexican food restaurant style. The food is a bit bland, nothing really special. The service is great, but just ordinary mexican food.

Leaving a late ending class (10:30 pm) at the adjacent Red Lion we were looking for an establishment still open and serving food, so we decided to try Bellevue Azteca. Bad idea. From the moment we walked in the bad service ensued. After politely asking the hostess if they were still serving food we were tersely told "yes" (AFTER a visibility annoyed check of her computer clock.) Abruptly shown to a table we were seated unceremoniously. The busboy who finally arrived and gave us a measly bowl of chips and salsa, didn't even bother with bringing water glasses or even ask if we wanted any. It took the server at least 10 min to show his face and we finally got to order. When I asked if I could get both black beans and refried together, he looked at me as if I had two heads and said "I don't think so." Fine, Whatever. I placed my order for a two item combo. (Taco + enchilada) I asked for white rice, I got Mexican. The enchilada was barely the size of my small hand. And the two item combo ran $12!!! My husbands fajita burrito was just as lame. Mostly rice with a scant showing of fajita veggies. After the food was served, that was it. No checking on us to see if everything was ok. No beverage refills. Nada. The attitude was one of dismissal and annoyance for being a late diner. Conclusion: service was atrocious and food was barely mediocre and overpriced. Do not waste your time. I would have given ZERO stars if that had been an option.

Quality and price match up and that equals value in my book. Great salsa and even better refried bean dip - muy caliente!

The venue is dirty. The service is slow. The food is terrible. I should have gone to the store and bought a frozen burrito, it would have been better. Even the chips taste off.

Mango Ceviche is AMAZING!! They don't do chips with it though, so make sure to ask for some!

We came here 3 weeks ago. I had the vegetarian enchilada and it was good. Pretty standard American Mexican food. However, our service was fantastic! We sat in the bar area and our waiter was quick, cheerful, and accommodating. It's nothing fancy but a great place to relax at and bring the entire family!

Very spacious, cool to have a large group of friends enjoy a Margarita. I love their chips + beans--and they are free! The service is mixed. Sometimes it's spot on; others, it's plain deficient (I've had a server take our drink orders 3 times before he got it right, and still bring us the wrong drinks!). A silly rule they have is that you have to be in the bar area to be able to order get happy hour prices. The good thing, however, is that while most restaurants end their happy hour at 6, Azteca gives you until 7 to get your drinks.

Food was reasonable but service was slow and disorganized. The desserts were typical mexican desserts that had no pizaaz.

The last time I came here was with Erika C. for our last meal before returning home. We weren't starving because we had just finished picking up some milk shakes prior to arriving at the restaurant. The setting of Azteca seems to be very Mexican with vibrant colors, painted walls, and traditional paintings hanging everywhere. Sometimes I feel as though this place is very crowded for some reason, even though it is a huge restaurant. Most likely because there is just a lot of stuff laying around the restaurant. The waiters and waitresses here are mostly both English and Spanish speaking men and women, so they often have an accent of some sort. You will be seated to your table quickly and be given menus to look at automatically. Shortly, they will return with a basket of chips and salsa. The menu consists of pretty typical Mexican foods such as burritos, fajitas, enchiladas, tacos, chile relenos, chimichangas, chalupas, tostadas, andd tamales. There is also the availability of making combinations in three different ways. You can either go with the poco, which is picking one item. For the grande, you pick two items and finally you pick three items for the macho. Items include enchiladas, tamales, chile relenos, chalupas, tostadas, and burritos. The enchiladas can be filled with your choice of cheese, chicken, picadillo, ground beef, or seafood. You also have a choice of sauce: original, ranchera, verda, crama, mole, mazaltan. All dishes are served with a heaping scoop of rice and a whole lot of your choice of refried or rancho beans. If you would like to add sour cream or guacamole (known as making it *deluxe*) then they will charge you an extra $1.95. After looking over the menu, I came to the decision of ordering an enchilada with refried beans. Erika C.'s parents also ordered enchiladas, while Erika C. ordered a burrito. The wait for the food isn't long. The food comes served on a super hot, giant plate and is set before you. My enchilada was pretty salty, but not to the point where I'd complain. I chose chicken as my filling and original sauce. The enchilada is stuffed with a good amount of well cooked chicken, and smothered in original sauce. I'm not exactly sure what kind of sauce it is, but it's decent. Now, the rice and beans. The rice tastes like it's been dumped out of a box, and is flavored with packaged seasonings. Not that it is a bad thing, just not authentic. The refried beans are thick, savory, and very filling. I like these beans a lot, and I'm not usually a fan of beans. Another time when I came here, I ordered a combination to share with my father. We ordered a grande, and picked a taco and enchilada. Good news, and bad news. What would you like first? The bad news first probably...the tacos was TEENY TINY! The taco shell wasn't fresh either, and was surprisingly not salty. The filling was minimal, and came with a whole lot of lettuce. The enchilada was fine, but nothing stood out in particular. If you ask me, I'd rather pick up something from Chipotle. That's just sad. If I'm dragged here again, I think I'll just order the rice and beans. (=

Good food. Good price. Service was exceptional. I had the flank steak with butter mushroom shrimp. It was cooked perfectly. Give it a try!

Aah yes, another run-of-the-mill Mexican restaurant in the Pacific Northwest. We went here for lunch, and the food was standard fare. I ordered the beef fajitas, and they were pretty much like every other beef fajita you've had everywhere else. If you're looking for great Mexican food, you need to keep looking elsewhere.

I've been to several Aztecas, but this one wasn't as pleasant. I'm not sure if going on Superbowl Sunday had anything to do with it. With that being said, the place was pretty empty in the dining area, although the bar was pretty busy as spectators were watching the Packers pound the Steelers. Anyway, we were first seated to a round table, but since my daughter had just gotten sick in the car on the way there, we asked if we could move to a booth. WOW... that's when we started getting attitude problems. Our waitress was very rude when it came to asking us what we'd like to drink since we weren't ready. When she came back, we decided to just order everything at once. All the while, I see my silverware wasn't exactly clean. Instead of asking to get them replaced, I walked over to the closest table and swapped them out. Considering their attitude problems, I wasn't trying to get my food spat in. Our waitress came back with our beverages and forcefully put a smile on her face. When it came time for our food to be served, I couldn't believe our waitress rudely asked us to make room for her to put our dishes down. I mean, really? Isn't that YOUR job?! Anyway, I ordered the usual Arroz Con Pollo and for some reason, it just looked too watered down. To me, it seemed like they did that on purpose just to make the plate look "full". On top of that, there wasn't much rice served with it. I didn't complain, just because I wasn't having a good experience from the get-go. Overall, I will not be making another visit to this Azteca. The waitress' attitude just ruined it for me. Someone ought to help her get her panties out of a bunch. I think I'll stick to the Azteca in the Southcenter area.

The three stars are for ONE item on the menu. I order Azteca's Queso dip-it is insanely good! Its like a mix of queso dip and spinach dip... mmm. I ask my husband to come here for only this item, and an occasional margarita. But that is all. The place is never clean, the tables are often sticky. Yuck. If they didn't have such delicious queso dip, I would never step foot in here again!

  • Krissie Z.

I just came from there! I had a good time, we came in strictlyt for drinks, and my Washington Apple, was made to perfection. And my friends margarita looked really good. (I had tequila) Even though we just had drinks they still gave us chips and salsa!

I should have known....better. Coming from California, this solidified my answer to the question, "does Bellevue do Mexican food, right?" Okay, okay, settle down. I know I can't make an assumption on Bellevue, especially based on this chain, but this place was MALO! Staff gets 5+ stars, but as far as food goes, this was a "watered down" version of El Torrito. Chips were warm, but not good, salsa tasted like something out of a bottle, and the "taquitos" were fried wraps with chicken out of a can. NO, no, no. If you want to get loaded, have a nightcap, mingle with staff who speak Spanish, or don't have anywhere else to go after you have checked in to your room, then this is your joint. Only reason I walked through the doors of this orange explosion was because it was connected to my hotel, the Sheraton. Ay Ay ay ay...canta y llore! Head for the border and go to Taco Bell!

Go to Azteca at least once a week I love it. Tried a new chicken dish last week at the Redmond location. Great portion and delicious. Went to Bellevue location. Ordered same dish. The chicken was half the size as last time. I thought oh well it happens. Started eating it. The chicken was hard and grissley. I decided I did not like it. I never have had that in all the years I have been going to azteca. Love there food. I said something to the bartender named Angel. He was not nice. He made me feel like I was the problem. He started talking to the regulars in front of me about how it has only been on the menu for a month. He then came back we started talking again. I told him it was crunchy chicken and small portion. He said it was 6 oz. It was not six ounces. It was half that. Anyways. Trying not to let Angel the bartender ruin my image of a restaurant I love. I will be back but not going in the evening. Going to go during lunch when there is a really great bartender. I think her name is Maria. Not sure. She is perfect.

me: We're not going to PF Changs anymore Shane: Alright me: We're going to Azteca and we're bring the whole family. The DECA family was contemplating about where to go to dinner, after canceling our PF Changs plan, and Cheesecake Factory was super crowded, we decided to go to Azteca. So I call them up, and make reservations for 11. They spelled my name wrong... but that's alright. They brought us to a super long table, and I sat across from who I had requested to sit furthest away from, Ben. I ordered a Fajita Salad, which was delicious! The pictures around us were a bit weird though. We were joking about who was behind Ben, Colin said: Is it a picture of you? He turned around and laughed and said: I take that back. Sorry... Yeah.... thanks. The waiter wasn't as fast as I thought he would be when he got our money and gave change... for some reason he also took the longest to get the money for Violeta and Anai, the spanish speakers of the fam. After that, we went to a show, all was good. Fam bam!

Azteca gets a bad rap. Natives of the southwest (me included) may find Seattle's Mexican food scene lacking, but you can't fault Azteca for providing generally acceptable, non-pretentious Mexican-American food. A lot of the reviewers have bagged on the chips and salsa, but I find them to be perfectly good. One person even called the salsa "ketchupy" which makes zero sense. At least they don't put parmesan cheese on the refried beans. GOD DAMN IT, SEATTLE, STOP DOING THAT. Bottom line, this is the Mexican place you went to when you were a kid. It's not spectacular, it's not ground-breaking, and they haven't redecorated since 1992. But once in a while, it can be pretty satisfying. Have a reasonably decent margarita and relax, you snobs.

My wife and I love the Azteca in Bellevue. They are generous with the chips and salsa and even have a salsa bar most days of the week. I get the tacos al pastor nearly every time we go here. I keep thinking I'm going to try something different, but they're so good that I can't bring myself to do it. My wife has had the enchiladas and fajitas and has loved them each and every time. We went to the Azteca in the University Village area and it wasn't nearly as nice as this one. I'd go back (probably this weekend).

3 stars means it was good and would come back only if I had a craving. Who am I kidding? Can't eat Mexican every day. They have complementary fresh salsa and tortilla bar on Wed Thur Fri and Saturdays. Haven't been to this location in years. The salsa seems runnier then I recall. If I had a choice between Azteca and Ooba Tooba, Ooba's would win hands down (plus they have a fresh self serve salsa bar), but if I need a Mexican fix and am in dt Bellevue Azetca will work.

Ew, I may be a Mexican and lived most of my life in AZ but this food doesn't even compare to Mexican fast food in AZ. AND it's only about 75% over what they should be charging for their meals. Not good, and will not be back.

The menu is extensive, but everything on the menu has the same ingredients and is deep fried. Heavily. How is it possible that someone would actually send me here on a reccomendation? Azteca = The Denny's of Mexican food. I hear a lot of people like Denny's. Technically it's food.

I encounter a lot of restaurants in my job & this was the worst customer service. Placed a take out order & when I picked it up staff was rude, pointed to my food on the counter to grab it myself, no assistance to help me or at least confirm it was all together. When I asked for plates/ utensils- I was told I had to ask for this ahead of time & no effort was made to bring any to me. My clients were left with food prepared incorrectly and myself scrambling for utensils & plates so they could actually eat their lunch. Worst customer service. And it's not authentic Mexican anyway, but you know that going in there.

It's a throw back to the simpler days. The food is ok, the happy hour decent, the staff friendly, and the prices are cheap. Definitely a place to hangout after work.... But, I'm not going to be taking the wife here anytime soon. She'd kill me if I did.

  • Jason R.

I'm come here not for the gourmet food, but just to full fill my craving. If I'm hungry and want Mexican then I go to Azteca and they get the job done. Nothing fancy or special, but it satisfies me.

Bleh. Not that great. This is not Mexican food. And it's served with a side of COLESLAW. What the heck. This is the second place we've hit up where the Mexican food is served with coleslaw. Sorry to shock ya'll, but coleslaw is NOT Mexican.

It was a long day of exploring Victoria, taking the Clipper back to Seattle, and driving back to Bellevue. As my poor boyfriend has learned, when I am hungry, I get VERY grumpy. It was 8pm, long past my dinner-time, and I wanted a warm, filling meal. We navigated to Azteca and my appetite was assuaged. With plenty of parking and an attentive receptionist, we were quickly seated. We received warm, fresh chips and a GREAT salsa - spicy without lighting my mouth on fire - and speedy drink refills. A large group was in a different room, so we enjoyed a room with other quiet couples. The atmosphere was light and cheerful, clean and appealing. The paper napkins came across as cute and kitchy rather than just cheap. A great place for a casual date. It wouldn't impress anyone, but it's comfortable and unpretentious. I had the Camarones,a stir-fried shrimp dish, and it was simply divine. My companion had the beef colorado and thoroughly enjoyed it. The large portions stayed warm thanks to the heated plates and we were very satisfied.

  • Rex B.

THE GOOD: Lots of food if you are hungry THE BAD: Typical crappy gringo mexican THE LOWDOWN: Will do in a pinch. Been there for happy hour and wasn't too bad, price wise. Would not recommend to anyone. Honestly I think it is just over priced take out for those lazies that want to sit down and pay a lot to eat. Want better Mexican with the same feel go to Kirklands Santa Fe Mexican Grill.

  • David S.

I have been a SoCal native for better than 40 years, so finding real Mexican outside of CA, NV, AZ is usually pretty bad. But I have to stay at the Sheraton next door so I tried this place. Would not recommend. The bar is OK, and the drinks could be OK, but just skip the food. And by the way, I don't think that really qualifies for salsa.

    (2)
  • Heather L.

The only reason that it gets one star is because the waitress was nice. The fact that they call this Mexican food is a disgrace! It was flavorless, and unappealing. I had the taquitos, which I am sure they bought at Costco, and my husband ordered the carnitas burrito which was completely disgusting. To top it off we paid $30.00 for this garbage!! Never again!! So disappointed!

No frills, friendly, great prices and decent food. Next door the Sharaton.

  • Jon W.

This place is definitely not worth it. I don't know if this food passes for real Mexican up here in Washington, but I have been to better Mexican joints in Wisconsin! All I need to say is that this restaurant is for you if you are ok with severe gastro-intestinal pain later that day / night. NO FUN....

Great food and drinks. Fast. Great service, friendly upbeat atmosphere. Have been coming here for 10 years and never left hungry or sober.

  • Steve B.

I've been coming to this Azteca's since the early 90s and am rarely disappointed! The food is always good and the service is always prompt and professional. One of the best reasons to come here are the free chips, salsa and tortilla bar WED-SAT. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is very warm and inviting. I know some people consider Azteca's not "real" Mexican food but since I don't live in California or Texas, where supposedly the food is more "real", I think Azteca's is quite good. This is a great place for meeting of large groups as they have tables in the middle of the restaurant that can be put together as one giant table. If you like good, clean, delicious Mexican food, give Azteca's a try!!

  • Bill M.

Alas, convenience trumps my anti-chain rule. It was late in the day, I was tired and I'm staying at the Sheraton, which is basically attached to Azteca. With low expectations in tow, I entered. The place is a classic chain Mexican restaurant. Think On-The-Border. It is large. Plenty of people were there, so it's popular (but then so is Olive Garden). The salsa was only slightly better than Old El Paso. The chips were fine, salted for a change (in my experience). My chicken enchilada with verde sauce was simply bland. My picadillo enchilada with Mazatlan sauce was interesting. The meat was nearly impossible to cut, but tasted ok. The sauce had a nutty taste. The beans were good. The rice was average. Service was average. To net it out, the place filled the hole, and it was convenient.

food is good, service is good, just a solid experience no matter what location.

  • Erin M.

Oh, lord... was this a mistake. I stopped by Azteca on a whim- not realizing (1) this is a chain restaurant and (2) Seattle is notorious for bad Mexican food. I mean come on, can you get any farther away from Mexico and still be in the US on the west coast? Chips and salsa: decent. good enough to stave off the hunger "Tamales Espinacia" ($9.25)- Oh, good lord. I love tamales, and the actual corn was fine but the spinach filling was underwhelming, and the creamy spinach white sauce they poured all over it was overwhelming. In a bad way. Beans were bland, rice was over cooked. Bad Mexican food + obnoxious wait staff with the constant "bueno" and "hola" and "i'm playing up the accent" + overpriced food = NEVER GO BACK.

  • Bernadette E.

i've been here many many times and yet i've never been past the lobby!! i come to this location to pick up fiesta platters for work lunches pretty often. they consistently deliver good quality food for the price and always provide more than enough chips and salsa!! by no means is this gourmet mexican cuisine (which i'm not too big a fan of anyway), but it definitely hits the spot and is the reason why this is the most asked for lunch by co-workers. unless they drastically change prices or the way the food is made, this will remain my go-to place for mexican food lunches : )

    (4)
  • manny s.

The food is a blend of Mexican and Americanized/Mexican food. A little too generic for me, but I am sure that for those who have never been to Mexico (Tourist locations not included) will probably enjoy the meal. The service staff is attentive and friendly, and the portions are generous.

    (2)
  • Proteus D.

Came here with a bunch of work colleagues while staying at the Sheriton. Perfectly summed up by Rob as 'the Cheesecake factory of Mexican restaurants'. Portions are huge and the food is OK....nothing special. I had the shrimp fajita which was good enough. I loved the tortilla chips....they were low salt so a little healthier than usual. Service was very quick which was impressive given the size of our group. Everything is covered in cheese.

We visit Azteca about one every few weeks because they are close to our business. Great Margaritias! I usually order the carna es sada which is great as well.. We will continue to be coming back.

  • Glenn S.

Chips are the best thing there. Ordered a seafood chim and friend ordered a beef chim. There was four tiny shirmp in mine and my friend had the same deal with their beef chim. We had to hunt down the waitress fr everything. Along with refills and our bill. Food was way below average and service was very slow! Poor and not worth the $. You can get better food few blocks away at Taco Time and for half the price. Go to taco time if not head to taco bell. Yes taco bell. It's bad here for what you pay. Self service here in a full service resturant

  • Gene X.

I'm writing this review based on numerous years coming here for the Emerald Cup after parties ( tour.ftvideo.com/showgal… ). Anyhow the staff is always courteous and they pour some pretty strong drinks. The food here is pretty good too and the portions are ridiculous. I can't say I love the DJs here, but then again, when are you going to a hotel Mexican restaurant for music?

    (4)
  • Herb C.

If I were in Bellevue alone, there would be other places for me to eat. But being that I was with two non-asian clients, we ended up going to the closest place to our hotel, which happens to be Azteca. The food was okay, but the service left more to be desired. The waitress kept on up-selling everything which is good from a business person's standpoint, but annoying from a cusomer's point of view.

  • Kevin B.

OK, so Azteca isn't the Mexican food from the Gods, but the food is pretty good and the service is excellent. And by service I mean that you get regular attention without wanting to poke someone's eyeballs out and your Diet Coke glass never hits bottom. I find myself going to this particular Azteca often as it is two blocks from work (although my lazy co-workers insist we drive). They have a new lunch menu - try the Club Quesadilla! Wheat tortilla with lots of cheese, chicken, bacon, and lettuce! GRRR

Azteca is great for large groups as they can accomodate larger parties. If you are looking for bland mexian food that does not have a very authentic flavor welcome to paradise. I wonder if they still use this place in the WA food handler permit video.

    (2)
  • Sonjia D.

A very Wasingtonionized version of Mexican food. Bland, zero spice and plentiful proportions. If you are a fan of "real Mexican food" this is not the place for you. I would recommend Toreros's over Azteca. Even though Toreros's is no where close to real Mexican food.

  • Mark J.

This is right next to the Sheraton Bellevue and I was too lazy to drive anywhere or walk even a few blocks, so I thought I'd schlep in for a Margie and some Mexican fare. The salsa was OK, though a little bit too ketchupy for my tastes and the chips were so so. I always think that you will know how good a mexican restaurant/taqueria is based on their salsa and chips. My margarita was OK, nothing special. Certainly not boozy enough for my tastes. Trying to steer away from the highly unhealhty chimichangas, I had one of their specials, "Chicken a la diabla." I expected something with a bit more spice, since it came from the devil, but it was mild even for my sensitive taste buds.

  • J B.

Food wasn't the best. Background noise consisted of some guy scraping or cleaning the furnace.

  • Darin A.

I liked the big open area in the middle and it was well lit. I had the lunch fajitas and enjoyed my meal however the chicken looked like it was cooked separately and laid across the top of the vegetables. I wish they had more flavor and were cooked with more "flavor bits." The service was good and the food did not take long to arrive at our table. All in all this was a good lunch but my standards for Mexican food is pretty high and this place was not in the upper tier. Keep in mind this was only my first time here and I wouldn't mind trying it again, perhaps for dinner sometime. Recommend.

  • Nate C.

The food is okay, but the happy hour is GREAT. Come for the drinks and the deals. During happy hour you can get a long island for 4 bucks. In bellevue? Thats practically free. The food is decent..hard to mess up mexican standards. Though the calamari is over-fried and tastes of McDonalds...id stay away from that. Most other stuff is decent as mexican food goes.

I have to say the first time my husband and I went to Azteca we were really disappointed. Our waitress was not the friendliest and they stuck us in a dark corner. Tonight I returned for a second time. This was much better. They had homemade tortillas that were fresh off the warmer and they were amazing! I also tried a different dish, polo de cream, I'm not exactly sure but it was good! I think we'll come back sometime soon for more homemade tortillas. :)

I would've almost given it 5 stars. The food was great! Our waitress was also good, except I noticed the manager was in a horrible mood. When we were paying, my mom gave him a compliment about the store, and he just completely ignored her. As we were leaving, he had the decency to say "Don't work so hard! They don't pay us enough." Who says that to their customers?!? Should he even be a manager?!?

My taco salad was MASSIVE as was the plate of nachos. Authentic atmosphere, generous portion sizes, and good tastes.

Im sorry for not visiting in a decade. You have changed! The food is great and plentiful. Ask for the salsa verde. So great for families. I had the sopa de pollo and it was healthy and flavorful. The 11 year old birthday boy had the chile rellano and said it was the best he ever had, despite having a Mexican family. If you are a local and haven't visited in a while, please try again. It was great!!

Been here multiple times for dinner. Never, ever, has been busy. Wonder why... oh... the service is terrible. The food is pretty good, pretty standard for Azteca. As usual, boyfriend and I both got enchiladas rancheras, very good. Chips and salsa were brought out promptly, water refills were pretty quick. Food took awhile, as usual, even though it was slow. When it came time to pay we had a 10% off offer for checking in from Yelp that the waitress didn't want to accept. When we asked to speak to a manager, she informed us the manager was gone and had just "given" her the keys for the night. Um. Really? How can your restaurant run without management? This isn't the first time we've heard this either, we've had a problem with the food being incorrect (chicken vs. beef) and no manager cause they had gone home for the night. At 8pm. I don't understand. Probably will be back just cause my man likes the food, but will never count on quality service from this location. Just know what to expect going in and you won't be disappointed. Also, if you aren't drinking alcohol, or at least ordering like an appetizer or soda, expect service to be worse.

Proximity was the reason for this restaurant choice, I was staying at the hotel next door so I decided to give it a try. I was really hoping to try out my new invisible suit (not clear clothing, something that makes me invisible) and watch the first football game of the year on mute. Mission accomplished. It took way too long for the bartender to see me out of the 5 other people around the bar so the new suit must have worked. When I was done, my empty plates weren't cleared and my empty drink wasn't filled with him still visible and then the bartender must have put on his own suit because I couldn't see him for awhile then I finally got help from another person while he was remained invisible. It did take multiple passes for her to see me though so I know my suit works with both males and females. If you want a place to not be seen (even by the staff) and to watch some football, not listen, watch football then this is your place. I rated this 5 stars but 4 must be invisible...

Ok... I originally said this was our second night here while staying in Bellevue, WA. Service great. Obnoxious patron. Making inappropriate remarks about our waitress and other women. Bartender did not say a word. I fact, bartender continued serving alcohol to the drunk patron and allowed the behavior to continue.

Lunch with a friend. Much better than the Azteca in Redmond. AMBIANCE: 4.0. Arrived at noon. Restaurant half-filled. Decent décor. Sat in the rear room. There are also tables in the bar area and that section was quite full, so probably louder than the quiet table we chose. SERVICE: 3.0. Prompt, and with a smile. FOOD: 3.5. I am not well-versed on Mexican cuisine. Had the Chile Verde off the lunch menu with sour cream and guacamole. About $10.

Been here many times. Stereotypical Mexican food. Great to meet a group at because it's a huge place.k

I would rate my experience as inconsistent. The service was ok. The sangria was awesome, the margarita was terrible. Fresh made tortillas were good. The meat in all of our entrees was bland and tasted pre made, not cooked fresh. I thought overall it was just ok. Not really authentic

Went here two days in a row on business travel. Place looks great, food was good (I had soft corn tortilla chicken tacos both days so I guess I liked them). Restaurant looked clean and inviting and tap beer selection was great. My deduction in stars is for bar tending and menu flexibility. Both days I went the bar tenders did not give the appearance that they cared if I was there. I almost felt like an intruder. I wanted a few different kinds of tacos and I was told I can't have that. I needed to order 3 of the same kind because the tacos are pre measured? I would gladly have paid a bit more for different tacos

I'm not sure why the average rating is so low for this place??? The food was good (Grilled Chicken Taco Salad for me and a Mexican Pizza for my son) and the price was on par for other chain Mexican joints like Mazatlan. I also got a "Macho" sized house Margarita that was decent for a restaurant like this for $9-$10 range. This location was an El Torito in the 80's and the decor is above average. We also really enjoyed the Deep Fried Ice Cream for dessert.

Great decor. Went there for lunch. Had the lunch Fajitas. Large serving...the chicken was a little bland and the vegetables burned on the skillet. Tortillas were good. Pretty average for a chain Mexican Restaurant.

I come here all the time for one reason... margaritas. They are a 7/10 but affordable, so I stay for a few maybe watch the game. Bar tender is of charactor and caters well to my needs. Tequila selection is modest. Their house tequila is poncho :( Chips and salsa come with jalapeano/beans. Food is medocre and I rarely order anything. Want good mexican there are several places near by

Krafts singles on my Pollo Fundido. Hmm interesting. Service was good but unfortunately some lady in the bar was permitted to continuously yell out mating llama sounds. I might come back in a pinch.

I don't want to be the "I live in San Diego so I know good Mexican food" snob, but I have to tell you this is terrible food. And I mean just terrible food, their attempt at authenticity aside. I settled in at the bar and ordered their Patron perfect margarita. I think there was Patron in there. I think. I mostly just tasted mix. Not impressed thus far. I ordered their 3-taco plate. All shrimp. They came out and the tortillas were stale. The sauce that was on them had spice but just an odd flavor. Just bad. No. Even On the Border does better than this place. I will not be back.

Liquid Lunch for Bitches working in Bellevue with Jen today brought me here. We did actually order food, but we shouldn't have. And, had we looked on Yelp first, we would have cancelled lunch altogether. Needed something in this general area so we were splitting the distance between our offices as evenly as we could--she can take her time, but I've only got an hour. For a lunch here, I needed 2. Just before the food came, I finally got water (as Jen was ordering another drink) and I told her to bring a to-go box WITH my food. I literally ran out of time for lunch. The bar area was near empty, and what portions of the restaurant we could see, it wasn't exactly swamped over there either so I really don't know what their deal is. Now seeing the other recent reviews, S.L.O.W. seems to be their motto now. Nothing much else from note. Nothing egregious. OK chips and salsa. They serve a small plate of warm beans with the chips here as well. She did some sort of random orange vodka soda or something she came up with and reported it wasn't that great. I wanted to try something off their own menu, but I was already considering the time/booze/food/work ratio and even by our drink order at the beginning--i knew i was in trouble with the time portion- just did a rum/coke. Mine was way stronger than a lunch drink should be. Especially with no food to dilute it. On the note of food: Jen had steak quesadillas, I had the small nachos (which are now only available off the dinner menu, so "small" is not at all small anymore--and most of it is now in that to go box). She made the better choice, as her lunch portion was the right size and it was simple enough. Anything more complicated and we'd still be sitting there waiting for food. Might consider an after work compression HH with her, since it's in our equality distance zone to wait out traffic--but never for lunch again.

Conveniently located beside the Microsoft Main Campus, this is a pretty good place to visit when you want to indulge in Mexican food. The portions are huge and great value for money. The variety of Mexican dishes they have is also fairly large.....so deciding on what to order can sometimes be tough with so many choices. Their cocktails are a must-try, especially the margheritas!

We went there with about 14 people from our company for a holiday get-together. We were placed in a large meeting room with tables nicely arranged. That's where the "good" part stopped. The room featured a fireplace which wasn't used but the flue was open, making the room very cold and uncomfortable for some. Pleas to management went unanswered. Our waiter was nowhere to be seen until one of our party went actively seeking him. We asked for separate checks and were told "It would be easier on me to have one check." At that point, a group member spoke to the manager who fixed that issue. The salsa tasted like it was fresh from a can and no house made. The margarita was bitter and not at all "top shelf" as ordered. The queso dip was cold when served and tasteless. This was not a pleasant experience. We will not be back.

My bf and I came here after visiting the Botanical Garden's Christmas lights . We were seated promptly, but it took ages for our server to greet us at the table. When she did come, we were told, "Your food is going to take too long." *blink blink* I'm sorry what? We were told that they were short staffed that night and that we may want to leave but if we stayed, our food would take too long. Well, we were already here and already in the mood to eat Mexican. We asked, "Well, is it gonna be hot though?" Huge shrug. Geeze. We decided to just push through and order. Turns out it was alright. Food was the norm, and it wasn't cold. But it was an odd way to inform us to not set our expectations too high!

It saddens me to give this place 2 stars because its SO close to home and I go here often. But the last few times have been way below par. I only ever sit in the bar and i know it can get busy sometimes. But I'm sorry, I shouldn't have to wait 15 minutes for you to notice that I need to order and need chips, water, etc. It is part of the Mexican restaurant experience to get chips and salsa promptly. You also shouldn't have only one bartender for the entire bar at a busy hour on a Friday. That makes no logical sense. The last few margaritas I've had here have had maybe a half a shot of tequila in them. Which is disappointing considering the $10 dollar price tag. The food has always been delicious until the last few times I came here. Not sure what is going on with the kitchen staff or what but I feels as if this place is going down and fast. I hope they figure it out soon.

  • Dave T.

The bar is slow. They are understaffed. 1 guy during happy hour on a Fri night! The bar is a disaster! The guy running around with the chips is quick. The bartender serves the entire restaurant for drinks. It's faster to order a drink from a table then at the bar!

There is no better place to get gastrointestinal distress on the Eastside than Azteca. Mystery meat of indifferent quality. Enchiladas drenched in sour cream. Stale chips. Wonderful decor from the 1980s. You get the picture. Spend half as much, go to a taco truck (or bus) on Rainier Ave, and eat in your car. You'll have a better experience.

  • Shilps S.

Not sure why the low star rating. We go there with our toddler and it's great bc he can be a bit loud and no one cares. Their chips are always warm and crunchy and their salsa is really good. We usually get a kids plate (chicken quesadilla with beans and rice), a chile verde macho burrito (delicious and huge), and a combo plate. For their combo items, I've learned that their burrito is just a large enchilada with only meat inside the tortilla (no rice or beans) - I'd skip it. It's nothing like their macho burrito. However, their tamales are amazingly good - the masa is nice and moist and their picadillo meat is really flavorful. We've been to a few other sit down Mexican restaurants in the area, and this is the only one we've returned to and will continue to return to.

  • Brian E.

I would say that they need some better recipes or some passion for food. Service was fine and the place was clean but starting with the chips and continuing through the dessert..all the food was below average for a sit down Mexican restaurant. Not crowded and that is why. Brian

Oh, Azteca, how can you still be in business? I do not come here by choice and when I find myself here, I am continually surprised at how disappointed I am. The food is bland, well, worse than bland. I do not mean the kind of bland that I expect from Mexican Restaurants in the PNW, but the watered down type of bland you find when one has given up all hope of providing a quality product. Set a low bar for your expectations and then set it lower than that, if at all possible. The chips are probably the best thing on the menu, likely because they are oversalted. The salsa is watered down, not very spicy at all. I usually order the beef fajitas, because how can one mess those up? Well, Azeca has found new ways to do exactly that. The beef does not taste seasoned, I am sure it is grilled when it is on the sizzling plate when it is brought out, but it tastes like it is boiled first since all of the beef essence has been extracted before it reaches the table. Guacamole usually makes everything taste better, I cannot say that about the guacamole at this restaurant. The beans and rice are uninspired and tasteless, I always take a bite just in case someone accidentally drops something in that has flavor, but alas, it has not yet happened. I once ordered the beef quesadilla because seriously, cheese makes everything better. Okay, everything except for what passes for Mexican food at Azteca. I ended up with a greasy glob of something the color of cheese, melted in between a tortilla with, wait for it...bland "steak". Service is painful, during my visit this week the waitress seemed annoyed that she had to take our order. My sincere apologies to said waitress, I promise that I wanted to be there less than she did.

Wow.... That was an experience I will NEVER do again! Sat down, was asked for our ID's (no actual greeting) then he walked away!! Once we asked if he could change one of the 8 TV's to the 2nd game of the National League Championship Series in baseball, he said we'd have to move where we were sitting for that. So, annoyed, we moved and had to bring our chips and salsa with us on our own. He took 5 minutes to get back to us to finally change the TV station. Meanwhile we are eating spicy salsa and spicy bean dip and still no water!!! He went and took the order of a huge table that just sat down before he came back to us. Once we finally tracked him down to give him our order, any and all exceptions I requested on my burrito, he literally rolled his eyes and seemed disgusted.... And 2x during our ordering he started talking to his co-workers ACROSS THE BAR while I was talking!! Holy rude!!! So we got up and left! That was ridiculous!!

If you're looking for good Mexican food and great service, yes, great and friendly service, this place is my brother's favorite. We had prompt and friendly service and no problems. The food came out piping out and large portions. We had plenty of warm tortilla chips and salsa and our food was tasty and piping hot and the prices are reasonable. We had steak taco dinner and chicken enchiladas.

Ok...came in at 9 pm on a Thursday. Food came out hot and tasted fresh. Service was good. We even made a mistake when we ordered our sons food (he wanted no cheese on his refried beans). They foxed it with a smile on their face.

Worst experience ever. My husband and I went here for dinner. I ordered a bean and cheese burrito with beans and rice on the side. The burrito was good enough. But half way through the burrito I bit down on something so hard it hurt my tooth. It looked like a rock. Definitely won't be returning.

Love me some azteca. destination margaritas! Every time we fly out of Seattle, Azteca is on our stop list. It's tex mex. It's fast, and 99.6% of the time the service is incredible. The chips and salsa are non-stop and always fresh and delicious. Sit in the cantina and receive some bean dip with your chips and salsa. Not sure why this isn't restaurant wide? Side note: They recently changed their Chile Relleno to be smothered. It was better before, but still delicious and a guilty pleasure. Fajitas for one is enough for two.

Wow. The negative reviews are right. I didn't realize chain Mexican fare could be so terrible. And the service killed it for us from beginning to end (I gave 2 stars because the hostess was nice). As we were sitting and waiting to be acknowledged at our table, we discussed leaving and going to MOD Pizza (because MOD is delicious). My cousins didn't feel like re-parking, so we stayed at Azteca. They regretted it! No one enjoyed their food, as it was all bland. The chips and salsa were enjoyable, since that's almost impossible to screw up. I ordered a seafood enchilada, and at the first bite, I realized the 'veggies' in the enchilada were a FROZEN vegetable mix (like with the peas and tiny bits of carrots). It was really terrible. I've never experienced horrible Mexican food, so I was surprised it existed. I have, of course, experienced terrible service before, but our server seemed to not care about people in general. He went from table to table, barely listening to our requests (my cousin asked for a beer and the server walked away because he saw another table sit down). He was short with us, as if we were being rude for asking to order food after waiting 45 minutes. Yes, they were understaffed, but would a little kindness kill you? The gentleman that was bussing tables was more efficient and friendly than our server. It's a shame that he won't reap the majority of our tip. I was a server for years, and I always bussed my own tables, even during a lunch or dinner rush. I think in a service environment, one should always have to work for their tip. It should not be expected. Unfortunately, since servers tip out (or they should, at least) the cooks and bartenders, I felt obligated to tip. Our visit was on a Thursday in August and our server was semi-tall with short, dark hair and a bad attitude. Will obviously not be back.

An evening without the family.. so I thought I'd go back to my old favorite, Azteca, this time near downtown Bellevue (since my wife doesn't like it as much as I do). Came in by myself at 7:30pm on a Sunday night. Decided to go to the bar to watch some football and have dinner. The bartender seemed overwhelmed, though the bar area was only 1/3 full (maybe more people in the dining room). After 15 minutes he finally took my order (one beer and a dinner entree). It took another 5 minutes to get chips, and another 10 minutes after that to get my beer. At 8:25, I noticed that people who had arrived 30 minutes after I did were getting their food. I finally had enough and went to the front desk to pay for my beer and cancel my food order (since the bartender had left the bar). When I asked to cancel my order, the ladies at the front desk tried to explain that there was a large party in the restaurant (looked like a table of 16 or so). Yes, but why did the other people get their food? Then they asked me how much the bottle of Corona costs, and I told them "how should I know - the price wasn't listed in the menu." Another bar patron was getting in line right behind me to complain about his dinner (he's one of those who actually got his dinner, but I think he said it was served cold). They finally figured it out and took my money for the beer and tip, and just like that, it was my last trip to Azteca in Bellevue. Makes me feel sad, just like the closure of Cucina Cucina across the region. Ambiance: 2 stars. Dirty table (stains), dark and dingy, nice TVs in the bar. Service: 1 star. Had to order my beer twice, had to explain my food order twice, waited a long time for chips, beer, and never got my food. Food: 1 star. That's for the chips. Zero for the food since I didn't get to try any of it.

I have been here maybe 1/2 dozen times until a year ago, then the wife and I moved to a place a block away. Been 4 or 5 times in the last year and it's really not bad. Service is decent, food is okay, and the drinks are average. No, it's not 'great' mexican food, no it's not 'authentic' or 'fresh', but this is Azteca, you should know what to expect. For a very bland mexican american place it's pretty decent. And I LOVE mexican food, so I know what I'm talking about when I say that. The carne is what you'd expect from a place like this, the crema is decent (have them add peppers for free), and the service has always been good to us. Don't listen to the food snobs that trash this place because ti doesn't knock their socks off; they really should have more accurate expectations going into the place. Do you trash McDonalds for not having fresh beef? Kinda your fault if you do. Like I said, it's a pretty decent place, as long as you understand what to expect.

Not sure what happened. It has gone way downhill. The service was great, but the food was much to be desired. For some reason they changed the lighting and it's near halogen lights, obnoxiously bright like an office. The food was pretty terrible. I had the enchilada espinaca. Supposed to have onions, mushrooms, tomatoes and spinach. It had 1 mushroom, no onions, teeny flecks of tomato all wrapped in soggy canned spinach. The refried beans had zero flavor and my boyfriends' taco was soggy and wet. This place was great growing up and going to with my family. Sad to see it go downhill.

My food was cold and very little meat/chicken in Enchiladas . Pico de galo was frozen that was requested for chips. And does not offer Military discount... Was there with a group of 10 people for cold beans rice & enchiladas. Dissatisfied

This is a lousy excuse for Mexican food. My wife ordered a taco salad, tortilla shell was cold, flavorless shredded chicken, lettuce and very few tomatoes. The lettuce must have been just recently de-thawed from the freezer because the lower portion was soggy. Our child's enchilada plate was cold and we sent back to warm up. Within 5 minutes they brought us a brand new enchilada plate Luke warm. The enchilada tasted fresh out of the can. They must pre make their plates and wait send send them out to the unknowing customers on the other end. Margaritas were mainly lousy mix. My food was mediocre, lukewarm and edible at best. We will never be returning! ...wishing we would have checked reviews before wasting time and money at this place. --what a joke.

Never a good sign when I have to order a water. Or when by the time I get to order my water, I've already leisurely made it through the basket of chips. In progress now. Will update. So disappointed how bad this place/chain has become. It used to be my go-to place for comfort Mexican - beans and cheese and chips and salsa. it's really gone downhill. Tonight's disaster: expired bacon wrapped Camarones Monterrey. This used to be my favorite menu item. You could smell the rotten, cooked bacon. Top it off with poor/super slow service, I will never come back. The Ramos brothers need an Kitchen nightmares style intervention.

Went here for happy hour with my sister and had a less than memorable experience. We got burned chips with less than enough salsa and beans. The service was pretty slow and not friendly. My sister's pollo con crema was filled with mushrooms that were old and the dish tasted like some of the ingredients were past their best buy date at the minimum. She couldn't do much more than push it around her plate, which was sad because there was so much food. My food was pretty average taco, rice, and beans, except some of my lettuce was too old. They should put the portion and increase quality and consistency.

Ive taken out here a couple of times since i moved to downtown bellevue. Before that I would go to the Redmond location which is AMAZING. BUT this place is literally disgusting. Take out was okay not as good. But I decided to go in and eat with a friend. Walk in past the lobby and it reeks. The eating area seriously smells so horrible, like fish and piss. Not even kidding. Me and my friend were so disgusted we couldn't even breathe, and we got a look at our silverware and it was dirty. So we decided to get the order to go so we wouldn't have to sit there and use their dirty silverware. My god it smelled so horrible We get home and my food wasnt even cooked all the way but the rice was overcooked. My friends food was the same. It was just a disgusting and SMELLY experience.

After moving here from Texas, we've had a hard time finding really great tex-mex in the area. This is one of the few that we enjoy going to. Doesn't quite compare to Texas, but it's still pretty good. My boyfriend loves the burrito blanco. I usually enjoy one of the combination plates. Really good portion sizes for what your paying. I usually can't finish it all in one sitting. We've never had a bad experience with the service. We get out food in a reasonable amount of time and the servers are friendly. I would definitely recommend this place if you're craving some Mexican food.

I am about as close to 100 percent certain as I could be that my last visit here resulted in food poisoning. The chicken was bad. After loving Azteca for the last couple decades, and having fun times and fond memories here, I will likely never go back.

This was by far the worst experience I've ever had at an Azteca. I had the tortilla soup. It tasted like dirty, flavorless water with hunks of chicken and cheese on top. The only good part about it was the cheese. I couldn't even eat it. The waiter didn't even ask us how are food was. My sister had the steak fajitas and was sick the rest of the day. This is the first and last time we will go to this Azteca.

Wish we saw the bad reviews before we came in. Because they are correct. Bad service and the food is bad too. The guac on my chimichanga was rotten. My chimichanga barely had any meat. The husband didn't enjoy his either. Don't go there.

I just had the worst experience here. I had a buy one, get one free entree for dinner coupon. Although the food was good, I gave the waiter our coupon and when the bill came back, he had not taken off the entree. When I explained that the entree was still on the bill he told me that he needed the coupon to take off the price. He said "I remember seeing your coupon but where is it now?" when I told him again that I had given it to him with my credit card, he repeated that he needed it now to take off the entree. This continued on for about 5 minutes of back and forth including him "speaking with his manager" He still refused to honor the coupon. We could not find the manager to complain. Very frustrating. I will never visit this restaurant again.

I went to this Aztecs with a group of friends for a birthday event. We were originally going to go to Joeys but we wanted to enjoy the Sounders game. There were ten of us in the group. We went to the bar and saw that most of the televisions had American football on them. We asked the waitress, who didn't even greet us in the first place, if we could change the big screen to Soccer and she refused because the slow bar had ONE gentleman watching it. We all crowded into a small area where a small tv had the game on. About 7 more people came in and crowded around the small tv with us and yet the waitress never offered to change any other tv's for us. The drinks came at an ok pace and the food was ok. I just think they should have catered more to the huge group in the small corner who could make them more money rather than the one guy at the big screen. Just saying.

I liked the food of course. the waiter was humorous. The Tequilla margarita came out on the rocks not blended as requested. We asked for the correct one. it did not come . when we were finished we mentioned that hey, we aren't paying or this drink. we didn't drink it. he took one off the bill. But he didn't take the right one. he took the one with the house tequila. we had ordered the expensive one( well my brother did so i don't know which one it is) i also had a chicken bone in my chicken enchiladas. so that the reason for reduction of stars. environment was not the livliest but it was quiet and besides the bone and the drink, it was still good.

Below average. Went there because it is right next door to the Sheraton. Took 10 minutes for a server to come take my drink order. Ordered the queso as appetizer and it tasted like velveeta. Ordered the beef fajitas and the stake was as bland as it could be. Would not come back.

I am so done with this place. Once upon a time it was pretty decent and a good place to go for Happy Hour. But it has REALLY gone downhill. The "waiter" that we has was so inattentive that we had to get up to flag him down, and I had to get up once to order my own damn beer from the bartender. THEN he noticed me of course. Note to Aaron (if you are still employed): You might want to try LOOKING at your tables more often!! I hate it when a waiter zooms back and forth, and NEVER makes eye contact to check on you. The bean dip was good until they brought out the last round. It wasn't the same at all, it was runny, had no peppers in it, and looked like they'd just spooned it out of a can. I have had meh Mexican food there many times, so I decided to try the BBQ chicken wings. ZOMG they sucked. The sauce was overly sweet and overly applied, and the chicken was flavorless. We sent those back! Memo to self: NEVER ORDER chicken wings in a Mexican restaurant! And NEVER go back to this Ass-teca.

Don't visit Azteca very often but when I do, it's only for Happy Hour. The prices are reasonable but the service is VERY SLOW. Staff is not friendly or attentive. Food isn't good but the drinks are cheap. Make sure you have all your drink and food orders ready to go the first time the server comes to your table because you may not see them for some time to order again. Makes for a busy dining experience constantly having to find servers to ask for the simple things, like water refills, having your table cleared, etc. The only time the servers are visible and helpful is when you ask for the check. That's when you'll see them the most. Two stars for having cheap drinks and multiple TVs.

Our go-to place since it is kid's friendly,, and we can get somewhat healthy kids meal with protein, rice, and beans. The chips and salsa are the best. They have very good vegetarian fairs.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
