    Overpriced for food prep and quality. Two in my party of four ordered fish - totally overcooked. The beef short rib was quite dry and my friend couldn't even finish her stuffed pork chop (which was the special... and should have been the most fresh of all the dishes). The service was great, food, not so much.

    I probably eat here more than any other place in town just because I live across The Green. And I am therefore grateful that they have really good burgers. Yes, yes, the other food is pretty good. I had an excellent seafood stew here, and the fried chicken is not bad (but I prefer KFC, what can I say?). I love the pasta dish with oxtail marmalade and roasted mushrooms (with a side of roasted mushrooms). In fact, I've never had a bad, or even mediocre, meal here. But what I really love at the Inn are the burgers. And the fries. And the house-made mayo that I dip my fries in. Love. The. Mayo. The service is always friendly and usually prompt. (Of course, they know us by sight, now. They ay even recognize my voice on the phone, since I order for takeout so often.) (I can cook, BTW. I just don't like to have to.) I love that this place has the right atmosphere for just about anything. I have come here dressed up, I have come here after the gym. I have come here for a romantic dinner for two, I have come here with half of my relatives in tow. And even though it is not a totally casual atmosphere, they always welcome children, who are inevitably enchanted by whatever water-fountain-and-plant arrangement they have going on in the middle of the room. Do, however, be warned of the butter. You will want to grab the ramekin, clutch it to your chest, and greedily eat it all by yourself with a spoon. Try not to do that. It is bad form. (Not that anybody tried to pry it out of my greasy little hands, but I did get odd looks from neighboring tables.) (And do make reservations, especially on the weekends, and always during leaf-peeping season.)

    This is a bright and beautiful restaurant with excellent service. The lunch fare is the same as the dinner at Richardon's Tavern. While it is a bit pricey here, everything we had here was tasty. The seafood stew is definitely something to try. I got the sandwich special -- the tuna melt, and it was amazing. I am loving this VT cheddar! Located right in the Woodstock Inn, you never have to leave the premises if you don't want to!

    Yet another wonderful experience at the Red Rooster yesterday. This is one of a few local restaurants in the Upper Valley that I feel confident will consistently deliver a high quality dining experience. The atmosphere is a bit contemporary but with nice textures and pleasing natural elements. Fresh flowers on the tables and in the central water feature are always appreciated. Red Hen Bakery bread is the only option in this region and it seems to be all they use, bravo! My wife and I are vegetarians and not only does this little rooster have options, the options are wonderful. Don't worry the rest of you, it's an omnivores delight as well. Keep it up rooster, we love what you do!

    Lunch was awesome. I had the vegetarian portobello mushroom roasted red pepper mozzarella pesto sandwich on foccacia. Delicious. The salad and pickle that came with were great as well. Decent lunch prices. My husband had the veggie burger, he said mine was better. I have to agree. Service was okay, our waitress didn't look like she was having the best day. The restroom is actually outside the restaurant, not sure why this is. The restroom was very very clean. My favorite part of the experience was entering into the lobby of the hotel where the restaurant is located, there is a massive wood fire blazing. I love wood fires. You can sit in front of the fire for a while if you'd like... we did.

    What a wonderful little restaurant. We had a great meal start to finish. Our server was excellent, the food delicious. The only negative I could say would be that the menu needs to be updated online. There were a couple items we got excited about trying and once we got there was told they were unavailable. Other than that though, I would definitely recommend The Red Rooster.

    It was excellent! Granted it was Valentines day and I was with the guy I love.. but nonetheless I think this place really was superb! The food was really tasty, and the decor was interesting. There is a fountain right in the middle of the restaurant, and though we were there at night, I could tell it must have had a really beautiful view of the lawn during the day, with the floor to ceiling windows. They matched the bread plates to the pictures on the wall, which was an interesting little conversation topic. My boyfriend got one that had a giant month on it, appetizing. All in all it is a nice place for a romantic dinner with really great food, will go back again!

    We were staying at the Woodstock Inn & Resort, so we had to try the restaurant inside. We would have come here for every meal (and skipped Simon Pearce) if we had known how great the food was in the beginning. The ribeye was juicy and delicious! The local wine was great too - a must try! Also, get the cheese plate, it's abundant and mouth watering. The waiter (I can't remember his name but he was a comedian who used to live in Brooklyn) gave SUPERB food recommendations. We wouldn't have had the same meal had he not helped us along. A solid restaurant, reasonably priced and great atmosphere.

    We celebrated our 11th anniversary weekend of October 20, 2012 at The Woodstock Inn and Resort. You can read my review for the resort here yelp.com/biz/woodstock-i… . The Inn itself was wonderful, which led us to booking a reservation at Red Rooster through Open Table. The restaurant itself is charming and let's one believe they are in store for a great experience. Unfortunately, our experience was less-than-stellar. Here's a quick break down. RESERVATION I added in my reservation this was as special occasion and we would appreciate a quiet table, preferably a booth if they had one. It was evident they don't care about the customer's requests or notes when booking a reservation. I've found this shows you immediately what your in store for in a restaurant. APPETIZER We started the nights festivities with a couple of cocktails and shrimp cocktails while perused the menu. The shrimp cocktail came out in 60 seconds in a presentation that looked as though it was hobbled together by my 3-year old niece. Five minutes later our cocktails followed. COCKTAILS We like cocktails. These were fair. Nothing special. Martini glasses are of the 6 ounce variety, which is always a pet peeve of mine. Charge me more but just give me a good drink. DINNER Apparently we were forgotten about because our meal didn't come our for a good 45 minutes. The group behind us sat down well after us and received their meals before us. I think the kitchen was spending the extra time with out meal. For dinner we order the short ribs, and the special which as a Cornish game hen. When I meals arrived they looked wonderful. However, that's where wonder stopped. Short Ribs - Cold, Dry, and Bland. My question is, How do you make a dry short rib? Licking a chalkboard would have had more moisture. Cornish Game Hen - Cold, and Bland. Also, the vegetable missed their el denta mark and were just plain raw. DESSERT Really? You think we stuck around for that. We spent almost $200 for one of the worst meals we've ever eaten, we weren't going to stick around for additional punishment. Caveat Emptor!

    This is a wonderful spot for a casual dinner in the elegant Woodstock Inn. The menu includes many fresh and tasty options, the service is excellent and the ambience is friendly. Also, possibly the best dessert on the planet; blueberry maple custard.

    It took us just a bit over 45 minutes to get our food. Loooong wait for fish and steak cooked medium rare. Felt largely ignored and were accused of not paying our drink bill (we had bought drinks while waiting 30-40 minutes to be seated). Food was fine but didn't blow anyone away. Exorbitant prices ($30ish per entree). Not worth it.

    I should first note that I'm writing this review over a year AFTER my dinner at the Red Rooster, but it's telling that I'm still dreaming about that meal... And planning on going back. The then-BF made reservations for V-Day 2010, we dressed in our best (unnecessary, but fun), and started with drinks at the bar. I had a martini with lavender-infused gin & a lavender-sugared rim that was unusual & delightful. Again, still thinking about that drink... When we moved to our table, the decor struck me as beautifully minimalist. The dining room has a very open space, and could feel like an airport hangar, but somehow manages to remain cozy. In fact, the booth for two that we were placed at was HUGE, but with a little wine and conversation we inched closer & closer over the night. The decor definitely won me over, much more modern than other local restaurants (ahem, The Prince and the Pauper...). As for the food, the stand-out dish was an appetizer - the slow-poached pear with blue cheese and short rib. Oh my god. The combination of flavors was wonderful. I will definitely order this again! The BF ordered a pasta dish as an appetizer (they did a half portion - very accommodating chefs!), I believe it was an oxtail ragout with... cavetelli? And our mains were also great - I had a special (surf & turf) and he had the duck, I believe. Every dish was perfectly cooked, service was impeccable, perfectly paced. All in all, this was a magical night. The Red Rooster has become my favorite dining destination in the Upper Valley. I would give four and a half stars, but reserve five for truly unbelievable, once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Skip Simon Pearce & go to the Red Rooster!

    Came here for Valentine's Day, although we had a pleasant experience overall, I had to duck a couple stars for a variety of things. Decor: probably my favorite part of the restaurant. It's what my bf would call "rustic modern". Large dining room, cool looking lamps, fountains in the middle, tables were spaced out enough to provide conversation privacy. Food: First, was a bit disappointed that they did not have a special menu for V-day which I feel like most places do nowadays... Wine: Not a large selection but they did have our favorite Cline Ancient Vines Zins at a decent price. Appetizers: Half dozen oysters on the half shell, very fresh and big, no complaints but obviously no credit to the chef either. Smoked salmon was way overpowered by the avocado mouse and pickled cucumbers. Entrees: My bf really liked his cod/mussels in chowder, I unfortunately did not taste it, so can't comment. I got the duck confit: skin was plenty crispy but the meat was a bit on the dry side. I really did not enjoy the spaetzle which just tasted like little pieces of fried dough. The stone fruit and other accompaniments were just too tart to go well with the duck IMO. Sides: Ordered whipped sweet potatoes with candied pecans which was tasty. The fries were definitely nothing to write home about - honestly I enjoyed the fries I had at Chili's the day before better. Both also came out in these red ceramic baking dishes which totally clashes with everything else. Service: Waitress was attentive but did not smile once... Granted I wouldn't want to be working on Valentine's Day either but come on!! Overall: Fine but definitely would not jump at a return opportunity.

    I teetered between 3.5 and 4 stars. The extra half star is given for the ambiance and service. We stayed at the Woodstock Inn for Memorial Day weekend. We decided to try a little of everything for food choices. We opted for the buffet breakfast one morning. We visited the Woodstock Inn prior to the renovations where the restaurant was the Eagle Tavern. The Red Rooster Restaurant is a huge improvement. This place has class and style. The ambiance is so relaxing with the sky light and water feature. We sat right near the indoor pond. So fancy. The desire for the .5 star less was the price and quality of the buffet. For the cost, it was definitely nothing special. I expected clean, local offerings, however, it was close to standard fare buffet. The omelet station was a nice touch, however the scrambled eggs were either GMO powdered eggs or egg beaters. Yuck. The service definitely made up for it. Our waitress was so friendly and attentive. Would probably not do breakfast here again. Definitely not worth the price. Might try dinner sometime.

    Very nice restaurant for the area. 3 out of the 4 dishes we had were lights out. Mac and Cheese and braised short rib ravioli were fantastic. Monkish was great as well. Only dish that was not above average was the filet. Not particularly flavorful and side of "crispy" kale was rubbery and unappealing. Out waitress was also a bit odd...hurried, although it was a very casual vibe otherwise. Still, a super nice experience...looking forward to another visit.

    I continue to be impressed by the quality of the dining experience at While we often drop in for burgers (beef or chicken--both are very good), we've started dining there, too. On our most recent visit, we had terrific salads (baby bibb and simple green salad) followed by salmon (ordered med rare and, while slightly overcooked, still very good) and house-made cavatelli with roasted mushrooms, cheese (from Consider Bardwell Farms in Vermont), and excellent duck confit. Nice mix of wines by the the glass and bottle to complement the food. Be sure to make a reservation, though: the walk-ins in front of us were turned away because even the bar was full. In August, we had dinner there with a group that included a 10 year-old. There were good menu choices for her and she felt very comfortable in the room.

    Pricey, but delicious food in a nice atmosphere. I haven't had a main dish here that I didn't like although I would skip the spinach as a side dish. Tasty dishes: vegetable pasta, rib eye steak with lobster and crab hash ($), seared day boat scallops, short ribs. Also, their butternut squash soup, truffle macaroni and cheese, and beet salad are good starts. The bread with the nice butter is good as well. I can't recommend the seafood enough. Service for the most part is good although the first time I went my waitress (blond, a little older) was distant and cold, not in a good way. I like the restaurant more than my hubby does however. We went for our wedding anniversary; he wishes we went to Simon Pearce instead. The menu also changes by the season. It's a nice but pricey meal, good for a special night out. Also, you can book on Open Table.

    My girlfriends and I recently stayed at the Woodstock Inn for a weekend and had several meals (twice for breakfast and once for dinner) at Red Rooster, the Inn's premiere restaurant. While the food on all three occasions was excellent overall, the service during our dinner fell well below our expectations. But first, the food. Breakfast on both days consisted of a well executed buffet. The blueberry pancakes were excellent as well the eggs benedict and corn beef hash. A great assortment of fresh fruit was offered and there were sufficient options for both carnivores and vegetarians. Dinner was quite filling and of excellent quality. The menus consisted of entrees using local ingredients. I had a perfectly cooked duck dish as well as some Cabot Clothbound cheese for dessert. The wine selection was also well chosen and had many appropriate matches for our various meals. My one (big) criticism of Red Rooster was the treatment by the hostess upon arriving at the restaurant. We were staying in the hotel and had been told by the concierge that at 6:15 pm, the restaurant would easily be able to accommodate our party and that a reservation would not be necessary. Upon his advice, we went immediately to Red Rooster and asked for our table. The hostess's first response was jot "it will be a few minutes" but rather "did you call earlier? I already told you we are booked." I found this to be quite rude.after I explained to her what the concierge told us, she left in a huff and went about trying to "find" us a table. I found this attitude pretty outrageous since the restaurant was at most at one-third capacity. It was unnecessary fot her to treat us like WE were in the wrong and that she didn't have any need to try and seat our party. Other than this rude reception, I think that our multiple meals at Red Rooster were worthwhile. I would have given a four star rating if it had not been for the way we were initially treated. I do hope in the future their staff will be better equipped on how to handle such situations so that every guest can have a positive experience.

    Great restaurant for lunch or dinner. Reasonable prices,excellent menu choices. Try the cheese sampler! Service was outstanding. My wife and I had two lunches and two dinners last week. Very pleasant experiences.we will be back on our next visit to The Woodstock Inn and Resort.

    When you're visiting Woodstock - no matter where you stay - this is a great place for dinner. The vibe is that of a relaxed upscale restaurant. That is, feel free to dress up or stroll in wearing a nice shirt and jeans. Either seems to be acceptable. Our server, Jordan, was great. He helped up pick out a magnificent Italian wine to start us off. We paired that nicely with the hen they had as an entree. With the skin still on, that bird was good! It came with 3 carrots - each of which were not quite cooked all the way. The side of asparagus we ordered hit the spot, though. We also, to start the night, ordered 1/2 dozen oysters and their cheddar fondue. The latter was so divine, it should be illegal! The local cheddar came with bread, pickles, grapes and sausage to dip into the cheese. Delicious!

    In a town that left me cold with an over abundance of New Yorkers, tour bus refugees, and inflated prices, the Red Rooster was a pleasant surprise. I did not have high hopes for this late lunch visit for several reasons: it was about the only place open for lunch at 2 PM other than a poorly rated sports bar, it was in a large inn, but not the "featured" dining room, and unlike the rest of the lovely New England hideaway cum roaring fireplace decor, this restaurant looked like it was the 24 hour commissary at a New England teaching hospital. A not unpleasant to me - but quite disturbingly out of place - stream of pop songs from the 1950's and 60's played in the background (Little Darlin', She's Not There...). And here my bitching stops. We were greeted and seated promptly and with good cheer. Our menus were "presented," and I do mean "presented," by our waitress who graciously stood by as we fussed with our coats and got ourselves seated, and then handed a menu, right side up, first to my GF and then to me. I know, a small touch, but one so rarely seen in most "lunch places," with that "whaccanIgetchyas" mentality. Clearly, the looks of this place were deceiving. I couldn't choose between a pulled short rib sandwich and the crab cake po' boy. Our waitress recommended the po' boy, and so it was my choice. Good choice! Lightly fried, and heavy on the crab, not the breading, served open faced on a fresh, toasted bun with a large load of remoulade and dressing, lettuce and tomato. Doing my best to keep it neat, I assembled the meal, sliced the po' boy in half, and Oh Boy!... To Hell with neat. This is good! My GF's turkey club wrap was of equally high quality and, for what it was, tasted good. But it was not a crab cake po' boy! Service continued to be that perfect blend of "invisible/attentive:" pleasant and conversant when addressed, disappearing discretely soon after. The kind of service where you don't feel like they're hovering over you, and you might start to wonder where they are, except that the instant you don't have something or start to look away from your companion or plate, someone is there to pour more water, offer a refill on the soda, to ask if you need anything, or whisk away an empty plate. If I were to return to Woodstock (not likely) I would be pleased to return to the Red Rooster... for lunch. But - weirdly, troublingly - I can't think of another place that I have been where the decor and ambiance - although quite "nice" and "clean" and... je ne sais quoi - detract so strangely from the experience. My mind kept saying "this place can't be too good." The service and the food were a happy contradiction.

    Pretty freaking solid food choices at the bar for what they call "lighter fare". I had the poached pear which was awesome. I also had a burger which was just ok. A little over cooked IMHO. That being said, you might want to order your burger medium rare if you like it medium. The fries were really good too. I noticed someone ordered the mac & cheese...it's a lot of food, that's all I'm gonna say!

    We stayed at the Woodstock Inn and had dinner here one night. It was excellent. Best meal in Woodstock. My husband ordered the beet salad, which we shared. We didn't ask to share because ther is a $3.00 charge for sharing an appetizer.(and that is the reason for 4not 5 stars.). I just think it's sort of chintzy---especially when the bill came to $146.00 including a good tip. I had delicious scallops and my husband had salmon. He rarely orders salmon because we have a great fish market;but he said it was one of the best salmons he had. We had key lime tart for dessert. You are allowed to share dessert without a surcharge. I also recommend staying at Woodstock inn. We were in the old wing. We had a very large, quiet room with a not too large bathroom. Jonathan, the concierge, is terrific. If. He's not there the young lady can also help you. the young lady can also help you.

    I have to admit I was a little skeptical about this place at first. A few of the locals seemed not too thrilled with it's modern "airport restaurant" feel, but I was completely blown away by the food and actually found the decor to be quite appealing (no, it is not that kitchy down home kind of place that you might expect to find in the quaint little town of Woodstock). Be sure to check out their modern light fixtures from Italy. We had a large party and they have the perfect little alcoves that made the experience seem almost like a private event for our group. Everyone at the table devoured their plates and kept talking about how delicious they were. I had the vegetable cous cous (which may sound kind of boring, but I was sticking to vegetarian that night) and it was one of the best vegetarian entrees I've ever had. It was perfectly spiced with saffron and surrounded by a bit of yogurt sauce that just melded all the flavors together. They used unique vegetables like fennel and radishes, all which were in season and a welcome change from what most restaurants try to bore the vegetarians with. Fear not...this hotel restaurant is packed with people during the peak season (be sure to make reservations) and filled with tasty bites.

    My wife and I went with friends and loved it. I had the oysters rockefeller and pork three ways. Both were excellent. My wife had a cod dish that disappeared before I could even taste it. The decore is beautiful and the service perfect. I would have given 5 stars but reserve that for something spectacular. I'd love to give the Red Rooster 4.5 stars, it's so close to perfection. I'd have to detract for a lack of a tasting menu or the slight dryness of the pork shank, but I'm nit picking in the extreme!

    As other reviewers have mentioned, although the restaurant name brings to mind some sort of mediocre breakfast chain, this place delivers across the board. In a state that is rather short on fine dining options, or modern styled dining rooms, the Red Rooster's main dining room delivers a setting that lets the diner feel like they've left the woods of Vermont. The food has been excellent all three times I dined there. The wine list covers enough ground to match up well with the menu, and is priced appropriately relative to the price point of the food. The service has been solid as well, not exactly on par with big city fine dining, but close enough. Overall, one of the best places to eat in Vermont, and definitely worth a stop in if you are ever in Woodstock.

    Don't be fooled by this place's "down-home" name--The Red Rooster is an absolutely terrific spot to have a relaxed and indulgent meal when you're looking to treat yourself. Pretty much anytime a restaurant has a cheese plate, you can guarantee I'll order it. My husband and I decided to start out the night with the plate of five cheeses--absolute heaven! From there we split the oysters rockefeller and the pork belly--both deliciously flavorful and perfectly cooked. After that we shared the fried chicken entree (with real Vermont maple syrup for dipping, no less!) that came with plentiful sides of veggies and starches. After splitting these 4 dishes, we had just enough room to stuff ourselves with the chocolate bruno dessert--a flourless chocolate cake that, while delicious, sent us both into serious food comas. The service was just as perfect as the food. Our waitress and the rest of the staff were incredibly attentive but not over the top. Just a wonderful, unexpectedly delicious meal!

    This place was packed with grandparents! Honestly, there may have been a shuffleboard convention at the Inn, there were so many folks over 70. But that's not really what this review is about. Just know that this is the kind of place that is comfortable for families and older relatives, and isn't some hip, chic little spot. They serve good American food with a pretty hefty price tag. It felt like the kind of place one should order a Manhattan or Old-fashioned, so I ordered a whiskey drink from their cocktail menu. It was strong, but I like whiskey so it worked out fine. The penne with tiger shrimp was outstanding and flavorful, and the filet mignon was served precisely as requested. But even more outstanding than the entrees was the dessert. Do it! Get the seasonal sampler if you can, you will not regret it. We had an early autumn one with apple cider, gingersnap cream cookie, and some other yummies I can't remember. The service at these places always creeps me out a little, but apart from the host, I didn't get any sideways glances from the staff. Definitely a solid place to go for a good meal, with or without your elders.

    Overwhelmingly disappointing. Mediocre food, unfriendly service, average ingredients, in a nice atmosphere. Food-Not a good sign when the best part of your meal is the salted butter. But that was some great butter. Apps: asparagus and beet salad that was ehh. Bland beets and standard asparagus. Mains: Salmon that was very tender, but substandard sides and sauces. Good portion size of an average dish. Truffle risotto with okay flavor but nothing special. Too much vegetable "stuff" overwhelmed the flavor without adding anything besides mass to the dish. Wine-Bad. Not a good sign when you receive a glass and question if the waitress brought house wine instead of what you ordered. Decor-Very open airy room with a water feature in the middle. Many families and older couples. Even with open space it was not overly loud and the modern feel brings the restaurant up to a two star. Service-Attentive by the support staff(i.e. water glasses always filled, plates removed, etc) but very rude and disinterested waitress. She may have just been having a bad night, but we were one of the first tables she had and it was not until after entrees that we saw a smile or any sense of warmth or pleasure that we came in. Overall-Great meal if this was at your local weeknight place for half the price. For the price, location, and ambiance it was greatly disappointing.

    Ate here a few nights ago. When we realized the menu didn't include a great option for me, the staff very kindly let us order from both the Red Rooster and the Tavern menu. Service in general was very good. The only thing I ate from the Red Rooster menu was the asparagus soup, which was excellent. I ordered a veggie burger from the Tavern menu -- this was also very good. My mother also ordered from the Tavern menu because the Red Rooster menu had heavier dishes than she was looking for. All in all a very good experience.

    Like most five stars hotels and resorts the restaurant is great. Attentive waiters and hosts spinning all over he place eagerly meeting the needs of every diner in the place. The breakfast buffet and omelette station, while typical, where very well stocked and the food was great. Not a single complaint here

    I went after a spa appt today, after asking the spa if they could call over if there was space. When I arrived it was 11:40, a woman at the host stand was on the phone. She acknowledged me, but w/o any smile or a "hold on" sign but ok, I moved on. I shared w/her (when she was done w/her call--and w/o an apology from her re: my waiting) that the spa said I could come over and there would be space for lunch. She apparently wasn't the host and when he arrived shortly the host was confused (and to be honest, if this is a "nice" restaurant, he was sorely lacking in cordiality) and said they did not open until 12. I said that was fine, and I'd go back to the spa and come back-specifically saying I was one person. When I returned around 12:05, the SAME host seemed to have forgotten who I was and had to re-inquire how many were in my party. Mind you: I had not changed my clothes in the 25 minutes, and I'm Asian -- and there are only a few of us around here. I was seated at a nice spot. Service: Meh. The bartender was my server b/c they were short staffed/busy, per what he shared. He was helpful and friendly. However, b/c he was not waitstaff, he didn't do a check on me during the meal (another waiter did, but again--not friendly. Cold if you will. Not the type of service you should get at a place like this). I assume there should have been bread b/c of a bread plate, but none was brought or offered. Good I suppose b/c I need less carbs. Food: I had the lobster roll. It arrived quickly, and for $15 I felt there was sizable lobster. I enjoyed it although the buttered roll could have been less buttered. The lobster had the right touch of aioli w/o overwhelming me. Side of small greens was nicely dressed. I remain highly uncertain about a return given the low stars for service. **Follow up: I emailed this review to them, but no response whatsoever.

    We stayed at the Woodstock Inn and Resort and ate at the Red Rooster a total of four times in two consecutive days: two breakfasts and two dinners. Breakfast was buffet style, with made-to-order omelettes, bread and pastries, an oatmeal station, fresh fruit, a variety of egg styles (including eggs benedict), breakfast meats, and fresh juice and coffee. It is definitely a hearty breakfast that will last you the entire day. Dinner, though, is the highlight. We had three different types of appetizers, four different entrees, and four different desserts over two nights. The entrees were spectacular!!! We had: steak, lamb, elk (this was one of their specials), and scallops with asparagus and lobster risotto. The appetizers also were just awesome--the absolute freshest salad with ingredients from their own garden and just a very light hint of dressing, so as to not overwhelm the greens, Chris' pasta (absolutely amazing), and crabcakes (also amazing). As for the desserts, we were a bit disappointed by the cheese sampler, feeling that the cheese came out of a grocery store and, rather than in chunks, should be sliced thinly, or else accompanied by a cheese knife instead of a spoon. The creme brulees were a bit too sweet, although creme brulees tend to be sweet. I'd stay away from these two desserts. The strawberry rhubarb cobbler with vanilla ice cream and the beignets, though, were terrific. Service was top-notch: Friendly and informative staff. Overall, our dining experiences at Red Rooster were all we could ask for (and sometimes more). We'll definitely be coming back!

    We stayed at the lovely Woodstock Inn for 4 nights recently. We had reservations at the Red Rooster Restaurant for the first evening. The waitress was an unhappy person... it showed in her service and demeanor. Our group of eleven family members experienced two severely undercooked meals. In addition, none of the meals showed any creativity. We'll chalk it up as a $775 lesson. Trust me, lesson learned! I've learned something helpful with Yelp Reviews. If you see large swings in ratings it's indicating an inconsistency in either the kitchen, waitstaff or management. Either way it means your either going to have a great experience or a lousy one. When the odds are 50/50, I for one am not a gambler.

    We showed up at the red rooster at 830 pm on a Friday night with no reservations (that's on us). The host was awesome and the wait at the bar was pretty short. Appetizers: a beet crostini thingy, a shared salad, and pumpkin bisque - all very good. Entrees: beef short rib (very good), and a veal chop (amazing). Dessert was good, too - carrot cake (maybe it was carrot cheese cake?) and chocolate cake. My only complaint - ye olde vintage switch on the wine. I hate that. No, I probably can't tell the difference between a 2008 and a 2012 California wine, but the fact that you are advertising one on the menu and try to pass the other one off when you run out is a hint I probably shouldn't settle for the 2012. If you just tell me upfront you don't have the one I asked for, I would feel better cared for by the restaurant, I would leave a better tip, and I would probably be okay with the 2012.

    The Red Rooster was very good for its location. Woodstock, VT is not the biggest city in the world, but it does have some hidden gems. The servers were very attentive and accommodated to everyone's needs. The lady behind us had dairy allergies and they were able to change her sides so that she could order the special. Even when she was being a little snobby to the staff, they were very calm, respectful, and even offered to give a discount. Our food was pretty good. The Pumpkin soup was really good and the bread tasted fresh. I had the Maple syrup roasted ribs and they were cooked very well! The dish itself lacked a little flavor, but the overall quality was very good. The crème brulee was absolutely delicious! The prices were a little high for the location, but it was manageable and still worth it. I would recommend to others.

    A great place for breakfast!!! Fresh squeezed orange juice, clean quiet atmosphere Nd the most outstanding omelet!! My mom had French toast and fresh fruit! All around fantastic!! Dinner is very pricey. Look T spending $100 for two.

    The Woodstock Inn is a lovely resort. We had dinner at the Red Rooster and thoroughly enjoyed it. We would highly recommend the calamari. I had the scallops which were cooked perfectly. I wasn't a fan of the potato "hash" that it was paired with. They were basically like little home fries that lacked flavor and the texture didn't go with the scallops. My boyfriend had the steak special which was very good and a great value.

    We came here for Valentine's Dinner (thank you, OpenTable for the reminder!), wanting to try something new, plus I always enjoy sitting by the big fireplace in the lobby of the Woodstock Inn. The atmosphere was a little more casual than I expected, but the noise level was low despite it being a packed night. We ordered a three-cheese plate to share, my husband got the clam chowder ($8 for a bowl) (which he said was delicious), and he got the pasta entree ($20) and I got the ribs ($28). The ribs were delicious and well-marinated, but I thought it was a little weird that the came with strips of fried plaintains on top, which added an unnecessary sweetness to the overall dish. My husband didn't really care for his pasta, which he said also had a sweet aftertaste. We both loved the Cabot cheddar cheese though. Overall, the food was just okay, but it felt overpriced given the casual atmosphere. We would probably stick to Simon Pearce or Pine next time for a fancy meal (that you can book on OpenTable).

    The Woodstock Inn is a beautiful replica of an old New England Inn, in a lovely setting. The Red Rooster restaurant off the lobby scores with its straightforward selection of updated American classics. Lunch included a satisfying NE clam chowder with the addition of chives and bacon, well prepared salmon on a risotto cake, a nice turkey BLT wrap and a lackluster lobster roll. The issue here is the room itself. A hotel of this calibre shouldn't have its premiere restaurant looking like Holiday Inn circa 80's. Upholstery, lighting, and the sad plantings in the atrium are tired and need to be refreshed. Food good but star off for atmosphere.

    Subpar at best. All courses were on the small side. Calamari app was best of anything. Poached veggies were not. Salad was ok. Soup was not and lacked taste. We couldnt tell if it was their lobster bisque or pumpkin soup. Swordfish was blah and not a great cut. Veal chop was decent. Dessert was pathetic. Huge plate and tiny little cut of lemon bar. It tasted ok. Chocolate cake looked like a decent option there. Coffee was cold. You can sense a theme i hope. Spend your money at prince and pauper in my opinion, although i think the entire woodstock food scene needs an upgrade. Best i can say about red rooster is to grab a drink at the bar and some calamari and move on.

    3 of us drove down from Burlington to see Woodstock, and to have lunch at the Woodstock Inn. Started with 2 very good wines (pinot grigio & pinot noir) followed by 2 of us sharing a lobster roll and the lobster mac & cheese, and the 3rd person having a turkey sandwich. Ended with 2 sharing a piece of flourless chocolate cake and 1 having hot coffee & 1 having iced coffee. Everything excellent: fresh, hot and delivered by a friendly and helpful staff. Best of all, reasonably priced for what you get. After lunch, walk around the property and then around town. Enjoy.

    The food was fantastic and the service was great and friendly, It is a bit fancier than other options, but it was perfect for a Valentine's Day dinner. Definitely recommend.

    We had Christmas lunch here and it was perfect. We were staying a few minutes away at the dog-friendly Kedron Valley Inn. So, after tuckering the pooches out with a chilly hike, we left them snoozing in the room and headed into town. I loved everything about our lunch here. For starters, it was a quiet, romantic Christmas away from the frenzy of family (don't get me wrong, we love them). The atmosphere was beautiful in this restaurant and the menu was creative and full of local fare. And most importantly, the food was incredible. We ate here several months ago and I still remember exactly what we had: Oysters Rockefeller (some of the best I've ever had). The Cabot Cheddar Fondue Plate (can you think of anything better on a freezing day), which came with green apples, cornichon pickles, grapes, summer sausage and chunks of sourdough bread. And, the Roasted Heirloom Beet Salad which was truly perfect. And, most importantly, champagne! The Woodstock Inn, and in particular the Red Rooster, contributed to this past Christmas being the best one we've ever had together.
