After a very satisfying meal up the street, we took a walk through town. The upstairs portion of the business was already closed, but what we were looking for could be found in the downstairs basement storefront the ice cream parlor! OMG, was this good!!!I I had the Maple Walnut and Ellie had the Strawberry. Both were filled with fruit/nuts and the flavors were just over the top. Now we didn't have the "Mile High Pie", but we did see one up close and personal - unlike any pie I have ever seen. Highly recommended!

On one of our day trips, We stopped in about 8:30 Thursday morning after reading the comments on Yelp and immediately felt like this was the kind of place I wanted to hang out. Friendly and spotless clean. Just "folks" hanging and eating. We each had 3 egg omelets with FRESH out of the garden tomato, FRESH out of the garden basil and of course, real Vermont cheddar all folded in like a fluffy pillow. It came with Home made sour dough toast, FRESH red potato home fries, home made strawberry and home made raspberry jam. The ladies kept the coffee cups full and hot. Huge? We spoke about the great breakfast all day not only because it tasted sooo good but because hours later, we still didn't have room for lunch. Fresh, hot and what you expect from a great New England breakfast. You will not walk away hungry.

The best breakfast place in Woodstock, VT and vicinity. Do yourself a favor and sample the French toast or veggie omelet. Coffee is great too.

Really good sandwich and soup, very friendly staff. They have really excellent looking pies, which are pricey but undoubtedly good. They do not take credit cards, though.

Cozy and crowded on this holiday Sunday. Slow service but good food and sweet servers. Ice cream definitely the best part.

Came here on a sunday but sadly, we missed brunch!!! NYers are so used to restaurants serving brunch until 3-4pm but vermont seems to end by 1-2pm. So we tried their lunch! I had the Vermonte Cristo. The bread was dipped in an egg batter so it tasted like french toast and they served it with maple syrup!!! The sandwich had chicken and turkey (i believe?) and cheese. Sandwich was very tasty i must say. Never thought i'd like my sandwich with maple syrup but it was really good!! Service was well and attentive. She noticed our table was not cleaned so she cleaned it immediately and did admit they were extremely busy during breakfast time. I would want to come back next time to try their homemade apple pie and ice cream!

Great Vermont country breakfast or brunch spot in town. We had omelettes with spicy andouille sausage - David happily added Vermont cheddar to his. The french toast was completely gone, so it must've been good especially with local maple syrup. Definitely order the homemade sourdough bread with local jam or maple syrup. Save room for the deep dish apple pie or the massive banana split. Each pie has 3 pounds of apples, the thick, juicy kind. It was not too sweet either. I can't do dairy but my boyfriend and his kids really enjoyed the local ice cream flavors :) Great service, everyone was cool and super responsive. The lunch sandwiches looked good too. Highly recommend this place.

This was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. Embodies New England with fantastic pancakes (best I have ever had), fresh farm eggs, Vermont cheddar and delightful hospitality. Come hungry, leave 10 pounds heavier.

What a great little cafe right in the middle of town. The staff was super friendly when we came in and seated us right away in the middle of a busy breakfast. Food was good. Nothing amazing or over the top but I also didn't except something spectacular from a small cafe. I ordered an omelet with smoked salmon and a cream cheese bagel. The bagel was delicious and soft. The omelet was ok but the advertised smoked salmon was actually just cooked salmon with not much flavoring. The bf had French toast which was yummy. We went with another couple who both had variations of Mount Tom and loved it! I think for breakfast this is a nice sweet little place as long as you are just looking for a solid breakfast.

Outstanding Reuben! Our only issue was one waitress would not shut her mouth and talked and talked about her pitbulls and baby daddy drama at the counter. Not what I wanted to hear eating. Our total check for 2 sandwiches, 2 sodas and one small dish of ice cream was $38.....for lunch!!!!!

Worst place that almost ruined our vacation. We didn't even get our food and just walked out at 1045. We were waiting since 930. Wait staff started giving us attitude when we asked when we will be getting served. They served people who came after us before us. We were the only group of Asians in the restaurants and it got ridiculous to a point where we suspected racism. Just eat elsewhere.

Wonderful little family-run business that's a favorite amongst the locals (or so they say). But my girlfriend and I came here on our drive tour through VT, and we were not disappointed by the hospitality of this establishment. We ate primarily from the lunch menu and I was able to eat my very first pulled HAM sandwich was really really well put together and a real treat. I also took a bite of the turkey sandwich [one with all sorts of sprouts on it], and I wasn't a big fan, but hey, to each his/her own. After lunch, we also swung by the basement for some icecream fun, and I was surprised to see that they also make their own waffle cones. I got a scope of the pistachio icecream (home made) and it was served with generous portions of whole pistachios! Overall, great little diner-esque place and I would recommend it to traveling tourists like myself. Food: 4 stars Service: 4 stars Price: 3-4 stars

We discovered this place for breakfast and were so impressed we went back for lunch too! Their sausage and a lot of ingredients come directly from their own farm (Hinterland Organic Farm). The breakfast sausage was probably the best I have EVER had. I was happy to hear they had Udi's bread (available for an upcharge) so I had eggs, toast, sausage and home fries for breakfast and then for lunch we went back and I had a pulled ham (from their farm) sandwich with coleslaw and melted swiss on top. Oh Em Gee, I was in heaven. I think we are going back again for breakfast tomorrow! The staff was very friendly and joked around with us which was a very nice change from most stuffy places. A definite must visit, especially if you are gluten free!

My husband and I stopped here on our way from Killington back to New Haven and I was pleasantly delighted with a delicious sandwich! When you go to random restaurants in towns you're not familiar with, you never know what you're gonna get, you know? Fortunately we chose well (thanks other Yelpers) and we were both happy campers on our 2.5 hour drive back home. I had one of their specials - the pulled ham sandwich with cole slaw - and my husband had their Reuben open-faced sandwich. Both were excellent. The ham itself was delectable and my husband even exclaimed, "I've never had ham like that before!" The waitress was very friendly, advising me to get their hot chocolate with a scoop of peppermint ice cream in it - good advice! We also shared a slice of their apple pie with cheese - another goodie! I will say that their service is a little on the slower side. I didn't mind it since we were in no hurry to get back home, but if I was in a rush I probably wouldn't go here. It's just not that kind of place. It's more of a sit-and-relax-and-enjoy-your-food kind of place. I had to pack up my second half of the sandwich because I just wasn't that hungry, but I was secretly happy because it meant I could experience it all over again. Except that my husband dug into it before I could! When you're fighting with your spouse over leftovers, you know you had a good lunch.

I can only speak for the ice cream here but it was great! Definitely had that homemade taste and wasn't cloyingly sweet. We didn't love the fact that they only have one size, which they said is about 2.5 scoops. It's also not cheap. But, the girls working there were nice and the ice cream was delicious, so I would go back!

Mountain Creamery is the kind of breakfast and lunch place you wish every town had. No one is likely to be intimidated by the offerings on the menu and there's nothing fancy on offer, but the food is good--some of it's very good. Try the maple sausage, roast beef or pulled pork, and you'll get meat straight from the owner's farm. Pies are baked on-premises. During the growing season, some of the vegetables come from the farm, too. Even the potato chips are top-quality and the breads rise above standard diner fare. There's seating upstairs and takeout downstairs. The Creamery makes their own ice cream, which, according to my niece who's tried every ice cream option in the Upper Valley, is the best. It's available for takeaway downstairs, as are sandwiches and soups. I'm a particular fan of the breakfasts, but often come for lunch. Did I mention that the wait staff is great? Friendly, every efficient, totally no bullshit. Final note: your credit cards aren't good here: cash only.

This review is just for the ice cream shop downstairs. Can I just say that these cones are the BEST CONES YOU WILL EVERY HAVE IN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE... I thank mi amor everyday for introducing me to these cones. Picture this: It is a bright Saturday afternoon around 1:30pm and the sun is shining down, beads of sweat are coming down your face and humidity is awesomely high, you grab 2 scoops of ice cream in a WAFFLE CONE from Mountain Creamery and you saunter over: a) to a crowd of out of townies staring at you stuffing your face like you haven't eaten days... they stare at you in disgust (mostly from the girls) Your response: Nom NOM NOM... I will throw this ice cream cone in your face, stop staring at me! but it's too damn good. b) into a crowded restaurant with white cloth napkins Your response: Nom NOM NOM... yes I'm bringing food in here, this is all MINE, but you can get your own at Mountain Creamery. c) into a park full of families and small children and pigeons Your response: Nom NOM NOM... get away from me, you vultures, I am not an ice cream truck and I will cut you if you come over to me at all and lick my cone. In fact, I am in complete envy of anyone who is near this place right now. I drove an extra 30-45min out of my way before from Ludlow, VT to Wolfeboro, NH just to buy the cones to share them. I always think I can get more than one, but one just fills me up. For less than $2, I got to take two of these amazing cones all the way to NH to spread some love to others. The ice cream is also delicious and wonderfully creamy. The perfect treat for yourself. If you want to impress someone, take them here. If you want to die happy, take yourself here. I'm gonna have to change my underwear if this review gets any longer.

It was like walking back into the 60's when you entered. I ordered the salad. I thought it would be a lunch sized, much smaller. They forgot the egg. Organic greens must have been because the dime sized spider was still crawling around. My husband and son ordered the gobbler. They were disappointed as well maybe 3 sprouts, 2 pieces of turkey and a smear of cranberry. Lunch was seriously overpriced as well.

Not the most pleasant experience. Stopped for lunch while on a VT weekend. Atmosphere is downright depressing. An ATM machine sits in the middle of the restaurant on the stained carpet. Food was fine but nothing special and overpriced. Waitress was an odd mix of too friendly and completely inattentive. Food was slow, especially given that only three tables were occupied while we were there. No credit cards taken (hence the ridiculous ATM in the middle of the dining room), and waitress gave me the wrong change back. Did she think I wouldn't notice my missing $10? Downstairs ice cream might be better but I'd look elsewhere for lunch next time.

Have to give a shout out to BORIS of TMC! He supplied a couple of pies and ice cream (free!) to a group of female vets who I hosted for the weekend in Woodstock. The cherry and apple pies and ice cream were home made and the most delicious ever!!!! Buy your pies and get your ice cream here...not to mention it's a great place for breakfast/lunch. Thanks Boris!

This place is adorable. My boyfriend and I found this place when we took a weekend trip up to Vermont. It's located in the downtown area of Woodstock. We came here for lunch, and we were disappointed. We both got split pea soup with half a ham and swiss cheese sandwich. It was a generous portion; I was barely able to finish my food. The soup was hearty and warm, and you could tell that the ham and swiss was local. Our waitress was very sweet, and very interested in talking to us. She had family from Boston, so we had a nice conversation about good restaurants for her to check out next time she's there. Since this restaurant makes their own ice cream, we had to get something. My boyfriend got a Coca-Cola float with vanilla ice cream. It was huge and we ended up splitting it. It was delicious and the vanilla ice cream was definitely homemade.

This place is adorable. The friendliest waiters who were really talkative and outgoing. They were great. The food was good but not great. Portions were huge, food is simple, and people were friendly. An overall positive experience. Huge downside was that it was cash-only, and the closest atm was broken, so I had to find a bank in order to pay. P.S. Apparently their mile-high apple pie is really famous, but I was too full to try it! Make sure you check it out though!

Oh how we loved thee! We visited the Mountain Creamery for breakfast on Memorial Day weekend, while staying at the Woodstock Inn & Resort. We wanted fresh, we got fresh. We wanted friendly, small-town feel service, we got the nicest people in Vermont to service us. We wanted simple clean eating, we definitely got farm to table. Why not five stars then, although the friendliest people around, they move at a snail's pace. Fine by us that the service was slow because we got in early, however when there is a wait, the space is small so it could get a little hairy. The four stars instead of the five is also due to the prices. I get it, it's a tourist town, but $10.05 for an omelet with toast and extra for home fries--yowzers. It was well worth the money. We truly enjoyed our waitress and our breakfast. Will visit again.

  • Ron W.

This is based on breakfast service solely. Unfortunately, the lower ratings here are very accurate. Whatever is happening in the kitchen, they simply do not move fast enough for breakfast. This is not a complicated menu...basic pancakes, eggs, French toast. And yet it takes forever. The waitress there was very nice. But we arrived at 10:30, and didn't leave until Noon. 1.5 HOURS for breakfast?! With kids, this really cant happen, and frankly really messed up the timing of our day with regards to our other outdoor activities. Plus it's cash only, which is a big pet peeve of mine. No excuse not to take credit cards. Anyway...just ok food, nice waitress staff, but clearly an overwhelmed kitchen. Next time, I'm going back to the Daily Grind which had limited breakfast choices beyond pastries, but was literally 10x's as fast.

Yum yum and yum. If I could, and I didn't care about my figure, I'd eat here every time I'm in Woodstock, which is about once a month. Seeing that I salivate just thinking about this place it's about time I wrote a review! Let's talk about the food: First, the pulled ham sandwich IS THE MOST PERFECT SANDWICH EVER. Hands down. And I don't say that lightly. My friends and family agree. It consists of lean and perfectly local "pulled ham" (like pulled pork but better somehow!) covered in melted Vermont swiss cheese and homemade coleslaw, all on a toasted handmade roll). Get it if it's on the specials list, you won't be sorry and you may just order a 2nd to go. The menu is basic (breakfast, sandwiches, salads, homemade soups) but the quality is very high and everything is perfectly satisfying, especially after working up a hunger outdoors. They use local produce, meats and dairy whenever possible (last time I was there the waitress told me that the eggs & veggies in my omelet came from the owners' farm). Their namesake ice cream is indeed fabulous. So are the pies. Handmade, local. Just do it. Now let's talk ambiance: Simple, yes, with basic luncheonette tables, wooden booths, old paintings and somewhat faded walls. But that's the beauty of it... it's a local spot where everyone is welcome and you really get a feel for the fabric of this little town, from the regulars coming in to the waitresses serving you.

  • Laine S.

Kind of pricey for breakfast, but the pancakes were amazing!

  • Andrew A.

We stopped here for breakfast on our way through Woodstock. I would almost come back just to come here again. I would give them six stars if I could. Food: Amazing. Giant buttermilk pancakes full of locally picked blueberries and made without a mix, topped with fresh butter and local maple syrup, with a side of maple-cured ham. Great coffee too. Service: Fast, attentive, and very friendly. Sense of humor, too! Ambiance: no music, but the waitresses were chatty (without being slow, which is a hard balance to strike) and friendly, as were the locals having breakfast there. Overall, probably the best place for breakfast in the town of Woodstock. I can't speak to the ice cream, but I imagine given the rest of the food that it is homemade and incredible.

My husband and I LOVE and look forward to breakfast or lunch at Mountain Creamery during our weekends in Vermont every year. Yes, it's cash only (only slightly annoying), but the warm, efficient service and the home-style food (and very reasonable prices to match) more than make up for it. During our most recent meal there two months ago, our server told us that the corned beef in my husband's favorite corned beef hash at the Creamery is made from brisket corned by the owner himself. Of course, in true Vermont fashion, the brisket is from cows raised on his farm as well. We always make time for a breakfast/lunch or two at the Creamery - a great addition to the already wonderful, adorable downtown Woodstock.

First time visit while traveling thru Vermont. Stopped for lunch. Friendly and helpful service staff. Food is average. Had 2 specials. - roast beef baguette with coleslaw and the organic green salad. RB did not have much flavor or seasoning. Salad was fresh but small.

Went there for breakfast. Good Food not great BUT really slow service. If there are no seats available you have to wait outside for a table (not the best during the winter!). Wouldn't recommend if you are hungry or in a hurry!

My husband and I went there today with our 4 children at 11:40 am and wanted breakfast but learned that they stop serving it at 11:30 am. Then we were seated and saw 3 flies flying around our table. Nobody did anything about it. Yuk. We should have left. They kept landing on our heads and bodies. Then our food came. I had the cheeseburger. The worst burger I ever had!!! Their ham and turkey soups were bland. The waffles were gross which they let us have. The woman with blonde hair and heels rolled her eyes when we asked for napkins. Very unprofessional! It was the worst experience we ever had eating out.

Hands down the best ice cream I have had to date. Perfectly balanced and so rich in flavor. It is more expensive the what you would think but it is also so much better then you would ever imagine!

    (5)
  • Jae L.

Yeah. I think the high ratings here are for the ice cream because the food is definitely "Meh. I've experienced better." We live down the street and so come here for breakfast fairly often--but only if we don't have time to drive to Hanover, NH or The Fort (about 30 minutes away). I know they buy local and fresh and all that...but you come away with a bit of a greasy-spoon-diner feel most of the time. We've had most of the breakfast plates, the omelets, the veggie scramble -- all barely average and all a bit bland. The burger was not worth the price (The Red Rooster's, down the street, is). My husband did have a nice pulled-ham sandwich, once, but that is the only remarkable menu item I can remember. On the up side, the staff are friendly, accommodating, and often funny. Lots of locals come here, and they treat 'em all like family. However, service can be slow. I soooo wish the Creamery was good. I really do -- there are so few affordable places to eat in Woodstock. I guess that is what they count on.

The Mountain Creamery looked adorable and quaint on its quiet village block, but the coffee shop lacked that same character on the inside. The service was rude and inefficient; the coffee was watery and flavorless. My omelet crossed into the decent range, but the goat cheese inside of it had a strange mushy quality and a sweet flavor. The accompanying roasted potatoes were greasy, but edible The toast was also nothing unusual, especially when I had initially thought that they made their breads from scratch. The fresh raspberry jam that I spread across it was probably the best part of the entire meal, though. The jelly was packed with berry chunks and lacked the syrupy sweetness commonly found in jarred varieties. The final straw, however, was when my colleague inquired about purchasing one of their homemade pastries to take home, but was told that they would have to be fetched from the freezer, which made them much less appealing. Essentially, this charming neighborhood ice cream shop did not live up to its full potential. Perhaps if the staff put more effort into its service and food presentation, this spot could have been a neighborhood hidden gem rather than a glorified diner pit stop.

Staying in Woodstock during Presidents week with the family and wanted to try a typical Vermont Country breakfast. This place was recommended by locals. Some reviewers like it some not. Yes it needs redecorating and or updating but that would take away the feel of an old town breakfast eatery. Is it expensive?, yea a little, but what isn't these days. Anyway we had Pancakes, an egg omelet (w/ cheese & mushrooms). The kids had a Corn Muffin & a Blueberry Muffin. Also ordered a side of the maple sausages. The Pancakes were excellent as was the Real Vt. Maple Syrup, the eggs were great (the cheese was white American which was really very good, I'm used to yellow since that is what i grew up on or u can get Vt. Cheddar). The Muffins were quite good. The omelet came with potatoes and toast with fresh strawberry jam (the jam was WOW). The Sausage was just okay a little dry and overcooked. I would go back again.

We visited Mountain Creamery for ice cream last weekend when we were in Woodstock for Maple Sugar Open House Weekend. We sat at the counter so that our daughters could order ice cream. The staff was very friendly and so nice to our daughters. They each got ice cream with toppings - and the woman scooping the ice creaming made sure to put toppings on the bottom and the top of their ice cream, which our kids loved. We would definitely come back next time we are in Woodstock.

We went there for breakfast, and it was good, nothing extraordinary. What was extraordinary was the apple pie we brought home for ourselves and friends. It consists of three pounds of apples, with a simple crust. The apples were baked perfectly, so it was not mushy. Absolutely delicious! Five stars for the pie.

I can only comment on the ice cream but holy hell is it good. I think for the time being its the best hard Ice cream I have had. A little on the pricey side but man it is good stuff.

We went here for breakfast and I think it was pretty decent. Eggs were farm fresh, the bread for the french toast was homemade. They had fresh picked fiddle heads for an omelet special (which neither of us tried but fiddle heads are apparently a big thing in VT so it was nice that they had it). The coffee was good, not at all stale like some diner coffee can be. The omelet was VERY fluffy. I've never seen an omelet that fluffy in a diner. The home fries were good, not plain, but could have used a little more seasoning and onion. And the french toast could have been soaked in the egg a little more for my tastes (I like egg all the way through). The butter was freshly whipped. Service was pleasant and friendly. They were busy toward the end but we were not neglected. It's really a 3.5 star review, but I bumped it to 4 since everything was so fresh.

Usually I reserve 5 stars until at least two visits, but this was such a great experience I couldn't help but give them a 4.5 right off the bat. My wife and I stopped in for lunch while passing through on a visit to Killington. Based on Yelp reviews, we decided to give it a try, and boy am I glad we did! First of all, nearly everything in here is locally sourced and home made, but without all the ritziness that often accompanies these attributes. They just have good, honest food that will fill you up and make you happy! I ordered the pulled ham sandwich, and it was outstanding. Tender, fresh, and not dry at all. It was a good size and filled me right up. The whole time we're eating, though, I'm eying this huge apple pie over on the counter. 3 1/2 lbs of fresh apples in each one, our super friendly server tells us. Ok, for $16 we grabbed the whole thing to take home and share with friends that evening. Awesome! Huge, not too sweet, great spices, almost doughy crust. Good times. The only issue here is that they ONLY TAKE CASH. Not too big a deal, but we didn't see any signs and didn't find out until it was time to pay the bill. I had to leave my wife there as collateral :) while I ran down the street to get some cash out of an ATM. All in all, great food, great service, great experience.

I like plain chocolate ice cream. Man, did Mountain Creamery deliver! Thick, Oooey Gooey, Creamy, Chocolate goodness in a freshly made waffle bowl no less! There's only one size so be ready to eat your weight in ice cream. They also have a Mile High Apple Pie that looked killer.

If you a looking for a quaint, diner experience in town, this is a place to go. The typical diner fare of soups, sandwiches, and homemade desserts are offered. The ambiance is simple and a bit outdated, but that is part of the charm. The homemade soup was a nice start to the meal. The Reuben sandwich was also good.

After a hike in Queechee, we were hankering for some ice cream. Found this place via other Yelpsters, and I'm glad we did. It's a small shop located at garden level (I.e., you walk down stairs to get in) and has all the basics you'd want in a local ice cream store. Nothing fancy, and tasty ice cream. I had the peanut butter, which was fantastic and quality. My wife mixed the peanut butter and coffee. She was also happy. Total cost was just over $9. They only have one size, so go ahead and order it however you want and it doesn't matter. $4.20 a serving. Kind of steep, but for good ice cream it's worth it.

I have been to The Creamery many times over the years since was very young. We always stop in on the way in and out of Killington. The food is very fresh and the ingredients are local. A great place for breakfast or a nice lunch. The owner Boris is great and really cares about the business and community. I must admit my true weakness is the ice cream. What great flavors, yum! Yes it is a bit off to order ice cream in January but I just can't resist. Also the apple pie is monstrous, how do they get so many apples in there? Can you tell I have a sweet tooth? My all time favorite are the chocolate chubby cookies. I am so ready for my trip this year to Killington.

Woodstock, VT is everything a charming New England town should be, and Mountain Creamery just what I expect a local breakfast place to be. The decor is outdated country, to be sure, and the restaurant itself could use updating, but that did not diminish my experience of the delicious food in any way. The Omelet #3 with orchard apples, Cabot cheddar and maple sausage was outstanding. Fluffy and flavorful, the addition of the apples was perfect to add a soft crunch and sweetness to compliment the fantastic cheese. The taste of the sausage lingered in the most delicious, maple-y way. The breakfast potatoes were well-seasoned, but could have used more cook time to become softer on the inside and crispier on the outside. In addition to the omelet, I cannot stop thinking about the single blueberry pancake I added (in place of toast). (I was initially put off by the nearly $5 price for a single pancake, but it was large enough, and so tasty, that I soon forgot the price.) The fresh blueberries were so delicious, and the pancake itself was just the right balance between dense and fluffy, with a crisp ring around the edge. The local syrup, when drizzled on lightly, made this pancake a serious contender for "Best Pancake Ever." My breakfast companion had the toasted bagel with cheese, tomatoes and bacon, which she rated as "decent, but not inspiring" given that she was lured into ordering it when she saw it delivered to another diner. The service was acceptable but not over-the-top friendly, and should I find myself fortunate to be back in the area, I will eat here again for breakfast, and quite possibly also for lunch.

I had a great breakfast at this place in lovely downtown Woodstock. Even though Woodstock is a bit pretentious for me, I this little gem of a restaurant has great atmosphere, wonderful views of the street, terrific service, and a Cortland apple and maple sausage omelet that will curl your toes. Good coffee. Reasonable prices.

We loved it! Nothing fancy - but our breakfasts were perfect and the waitresses were very friendly and nice. I had the waffles and two eggs over easy. Couldn't have been better. Highly recommended!

Stopped in for lunch and had turkey sandwich with chips and a pickle. The sandwich was ok but a little pricey for the size and quality. It could have used some cheese on it. The pickle was my favorite part of the lunch. Very garlicky with a nice bite to it. The two major downfalsl of this place for me was the price along with that fact that they do not accept credit or debit cards of any kind. I had to run to the ATM down the street to pay for the lunch. Overall it wasn't bad, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

This place is just awesome. The sandwitches were homemade, with many local and organic ingredients. With a pricetag of ~10-15$ per meal the pricetag is also fair. The best thing are the desserts. This place makes their own ice-cream which can be sampled at request - the apple pie slices are no smaller than gigantic - as areall portions. I can only recommend this place - especially if you are coming from Sugarbush Farms, which is only a quarter hour drive from here.

Love this place. I can't even fully explain why. Came here for a late lunch on a verrrry cold day during the snow art sculpting (or is it ice?) in the park down the street. Love the little town, and especially the Mt. Creamery. Had a truly amazing roasted turkey sandwich; I think the bird was from out back, more or less, as I don't think the farm's too far away. Definitely one of the better fresh roast turkey sandwiches i've ever had. And I dig the old family-style restaurant feel inside. But, it gets better. After lunch, went downstairs for a debate about the wisdom of putting cheddar cheese on your apple pie (finally tried that....we'll leave that for another day), and then got a pint of maple walnut ice cream to go -- wasn't about to eat a cone in 15 degree weather. When i did finally get to that ice cream later that night, it nearly brought me to tears. I still talk about it. And the worst part -- when we were leaving, I left the half-full pint in the freezer! Noooooooooooooooooo. Till we meet again, Mt Creamery maple walnut. I have yet to find your equal.

Okay, suffice to say I am a huge fan of Mountain Creamery since I started eating there back in the 80's when I worked at the Woodstock Inn (another great place to eat in Woodstock for lunch) I think the one point that is missing in all of the good reviews is the wonderful apple pie that they make that goes great with slices of local cheddar. The home made pie has to be 6" tall and if filled with apples that are just so flavorful, makes my mouth water just to think about it. I used to go there in the mornings and have a slice of pie for breakfast and read the paper before my lunch shift at the Inn; Woodstock is a wonderful place to be in the summer.

Lesson learned, trust your instincts...... Upon entering you will quickly notice a remodel of any kind has clearly not taken place in well over 2 decades. Extremely run down. Went to the bathroom and I had to carefully position my stance to avoid a huge hole where a portion of the floor was caving in.... Their claim to fame was that their meat was from their local farm. I will say, the meat portion of the meals I tried were quite good, it was everything else on the plate where they seemed to cut corners. Terrible bread, awful sides. (don't ever get the potato salad, the worse I've ever had!). Worth mentioning these sandwiches were expensive. $10+. Come prepared, cash only. Won't be back.

The food here was only average. I got a grilled cheese and my husband got a bowl of clam chowder. It took them 40 min to bring it out! Also, apparently they only take cash which wasnt written anywhere so we had to go get cash from an ATM when the bill came. Definetly will not be going back.

Note: there's a cafe upstairs, and the ice cream shop downstairs. They are connected, but have separate entrances and registers and different hours. The cafe has great food, good service, fast service, good prices, FABULOUS ice cream (homemade!), fantastic mile high apple pie. Dynamite breakfast spot. Sweet setting, on Rt. 4 in Woodstock. Includes locally grown greens and meats. The ice cream shop rocks, but there's no seating. Grab a cone and head down the block to the river, there's a sweet picnic table next to it, or a bench above, overlooking the water. Great summer treat!

Dear God, this is one of those times that I wish there was a ZERO star option. My husband and I went into the Mountain Creamery Friday night as we were driving around town. Hoping to cool off from the oppressive mugginess, we entered this basement dungeon of a place. Trying not to judge a book by it's cover, we opted for two of their homemade ice creams, maple walnut and some brownie concoction. Opting for regular cones as the "waffle" style were sitting on the counter attracting a swarm of flies and I could only imagine how crisp they would be when exposed to the humid air. First of all, $4.30 for a cone is outrageous, I don't care if you make the ice cream yourself. Secondly, if you are going to call your creation "maple" anything, then people are going to expect maple flavor. This was not the case. The ice cream, heavy with walnuts, tasted bland and flavorless. A pale white blob on top of a stale cone. Supremely weak. I offered a bite to my husband who just shook his head. The girl behind the counter was pleasant enough but this weird little storage area shop is definitely not worth the six steps down that it takes to get there.

This is one of those, "I dont want to have to do this but..." yelps. The Mountain Creamery. Ok well, sadly, I've eaten here twice, both times because Bentley's in Woodstock was overcrowded and this is pretty much the only other game in town. It was a busy Saturday afternoon and we sat down at the counter. The man who wiped it down for us, who I think was the owner, was a large and friendly man, who I hope doesn't see this review because I don't want to hurt his feelings. Here it goes... The food here is not good. In fact, its bad. Last time i got the tuna melt and from what I can recall, the tuna wasn't the freshest tasting and the presentation was even worse. This time around, I got an open faced Reuben with potato salad and a coke. Well I guess I'm not a big sauerkraut girl, because I picked about 90% of it off and left it in an enormous pile to the side. However, I think this was mainly because if they listed the ingredients of my meal in order of "% of total" like they do with nutrition information, the first ingredient would have been the sauerkraut (am i spelling that right??). The open faced nature of a Reuben is counterintuitive. This is a semi-messy sandwich to begin with, and it doesn't need any help from the people at the Creamery leaving off one entire piece of bread. My one remaining slice of marble rye became a smushy limp piece of nothing by the end. the potato salad also, if ingredients were listed in order of total amount would have read like this : EGGS, Mayonaisse, MORE EGGS, and potatoes. I'm not kidding you when I say that when it came out, I thought they had made a mistake and given me egg salad. The pickle, however, was top notch. I give them a 2 only because... well I'm not sure really. I think because even if you're eating sauerkraut with a side of egg salad here, you are still doing so in Woodstock, which is one of my favorites of all time, plus its quick and cheap, especially when Bentley's is packed. The waitresses are a little bit on the trashy side and the place really needs a good scrubbing. But supposedly their ice cream is good; I normally am there in the winter and so, haven't tried it.

This review is for the ice cream. Like other Yelpers have stated, it's one size for $4.20 ($5.40 if you get a waffle bowl). They let me get half toffee crunch and half Vermont maple nut. The ice cream is surprisingly light--I almost finished the whole thing in spite of its being almost as big as my head.

We went there for an ice cream today. As soon as we sat down we saw the picture of apple pie which the server with the short hair said, it was the best seller. We then order the whole pie for $16.95 instead of $5.95 per slice. She brought us the whole pie and couple of plates & knife for us to cut it ourselves since she said "this is unusual that people order the whole pie and ask to have it shared." As far as I know, I have never been to any restaurant that refused to slice the cake/pie for the customer, that's the whole point of using the whole pie instead of slices so you can get a better deal. The pie was brought cold and when we asked to have it heated up, She gave us such a bad attitude and said that the owner has the policy NOT to heat up the pie for the customers but she would do it anyway. When the supposedly heated up Pie came out, it was not even warm and she brought us the bill of $53. Saying that she decided to charge us by slice. I can't believe that she charged the customers whatever she wants? How could you change the price when your customers sliced and served their own food? I asked for the owner and he was more reasonable and adjusted the bill. If I were the owner, I would discipline that short blonde hair server and sent her to a server 101 class.

Definitely a 5 star establishment for an incredible VT breakfast experience. When you think about the type of food you want to have when visiting Vermont, this place nails it. Our table of 5 thoroughly enjoyed their breakfast entrees. The highlights were the delectable sausage lightly coated in a fresh VT maple syrup, tasty raspberry and strawberry homemade jams (we all bought some to bring home), and the most fluffy eggs we have ever seen in an omelette. Speaking of omelettes, the special with VT cheddar cheese, sausage, and apples were incredible. Everyone was skeptical about having apples paired with eggs but it turned out to be an amazing addition! This entire event was the talk of the 3 hour car ride back to Boston. Looking forward to going back soon.

My experience here was so so. The food was simple dinner food. Which would of been fine if it wasn't so expensive (12$) for a sandwich.

My husband and I had breakfast here during our trip to Woodstock and really enjoyed it. Their homemade maple breakfast sausage is heavenly as are their homemade jams. Wait staff is friendly. Make sure to have cash-that's all they take.
