It's not cool trying to get food twice in two weeks and not getting seated due to lack of attention by the restaurant's staff. Two weeks ago, we tried to grab breakfast around 11:30 on a Saturday. The restaurant had a few tables seated, but no staff was in the dining room or behind the bar. There was a bunch of laughing from behind the kitchen door. We waited for ten minutes and were starting to leave when a cook popped his head out to say someone would be out in a few minutes. We didn't wait. Today, I waited for ten minutes while three waitstaff and a busboy passed by the entry at least six times. The restaurant was busy, but it wasn't slammed. Each time someone passed, they looked and saw I was there, but they didn't acknowledge me otherwise. I wasn't looking for a repeat, so I left again. If you can get seated, get the potato verde. The food isn't so good that it's worth the wait, though, and the service once you're in is hit or miss. Avoid the teenage and twenty-something waitresses if you can; they're usually the ones at this restaurant who could care less whether you're there.

This seems to be a very local restaurant with good food and friendly staff. According to my mother, their meatloaf is delicious. I highly recommend the macaroni and cheese!

Great casual Vermont restaurant. Not for fancy folks seeking haute cuisine or so-called "foodies." Down home, friendly and relaxed! I liked my pork and apples special! Too stuffed to try the maple cheesecake!!!

Wow would have never guessed such a small restaurant would be so wonderful almost everything on the menu is Vermont or pretty close to location. I had the chicken ranch lunch sandwich with french fries (which are made on site), as well as their homemade Ranch dressing I would recommend to any visitors of the Waterbury area, my girl friends dad lives in the area and I know my break fest, brunch, lunch area destination.

Ah, Maxi's! A post-flea-market staple if I travel to town for such on a nice weekend day! Access to the parking lot is awkward now, as one can not just turn in from Route 2 eastbound, rather you need to enter the rotary and make a complete circle. There is almost always a wait at the door, but the food and service are worth it. The atmosphere never changes, and is often quite loud, too warm, and a bit crowded. Bathrooms are for one at a time, which can lead to a wait. Consistently impressive and speedy service, as well as excellent food, make up for the shortcomings. The staff is a bevy of beautiful ladies who are always smiling and being very attentive to customers. No matter how crowded, or what season, I know that at Maxi's I can count on my water/coffee/soda glass to never be empty, and for every need to be addressed. The two most outstanding dishes here, unanimously agreed upon by my family and friends, are the fish and chips and the steak and cheese sandwich. Both are among the best I have found in Vermont. The fish is battered just perfectly and not excessively. Seasonings are used in moderation, which is good, as many establishments overdo things in such simple dishes. French fries may need a little salt for those who like it (I do not). The steak and cheese is a nice-sized portion and always flavorful. I don't know how they prepare the steak, but it is incredible and just perfect...I can not come close when I try at home.

I go to this restaurant all the time the food and service is usually really good but my last two experiences here were horrible . The food was decent but home fries were ice cold as was the hollandaise sauce . I asked For new hollandaise sauce Or at least heat it Up more and the second one was worst then the first! Then on top of that when I complained the second time the angry uneducated waitress proceeded to tell me the sauce was supposed to be like that (room temp) I've worked in plenty of breakfast restaurants to know that's not true . Only reason for the two stars is because in the past it has been fine but recently not so much .. The staff was extremely rude

I can't believe the number of times we've driven by this place and not given it a second look. After all, there are plenty of cool spots in Waterbury/Stowe area, and Maxi's sits amongst gas stations and convenience stores. I never realized it was a "real" restaurant. The decor is minimal. Perfect for a ski-trip stopover. The dining room is pretty good sized, and there is a long bar featuring some a few excellent local brews (and the old standards). It was the menu that surprised us. We just wanted some take-out on a busy night when no one else would accommodate, but Maxi's was friendly and happy to serve us. That's when it became difficult. Too many good choices, including a couple of delicious-sounding specials. Inasmuch as that closing time was approaching, I was focused on making it not complicated, but there were many items on the menu that went way above and beyond the idea of the pub food which we expected. The staff was super-friendly, our orders turned out perfect, the beer was cold...I won't overlook this little gem next time we're in town.

We had an excellent meal, the fried Brie with apple chutney was really good. Our waitress was new, but did an excellent job. Our salads were excellent . I wanted dessert, was too full. Friendly atmosphere, good prices, quality food.

I had a really disappointing breakfast here. It was a litany of easily avoided mistakes that just made the experience of eating here unpleasant. Which is a shame because the food is good (when it eventually, after a long wait, actually arrives). Some specific issues: * We were told it would be a 15-20 wait. It was close to an hour before we were seated. * They seated several 2 or 3 person parties that arrived after my 5 person party at tables which could easily fit 5. * We had to ask for cream, sugar, and even utensils. * Food took FOREVER to arrive. So what I hoped would be a 1.5 hour breakfast turned into a 3 hour ordeal. Like I said. It is a real shame because when food finally came it was good and there are not a ton of places in central VT... But there are other options and I suggest you check them out before spending an entire, frustrating morning in Maxi's.

I was in the area for a conference and we all stopped at Maxi's before we took a tour of the Ben & Jerrys Factory...It serves basic, fresh, locally grown food and stays open until 4pmish on Sundays... I had the Fish & Chips, my friends had burgers, crepes, salads, and various breakfast/lunch items. Food was fresh, tasty and cost was excellent if you are on a budget. It's also in an excellent location off of 89. Service was good...very attentive and kind. I would go back again in a moment.

Very helpful, caring staff with lots of energy! We live in Stowe, with plenty of breakfast options nearby, BUT drive to Waterbury every weekend because this is our favorite place for breakfast! A few favorites: chocolate hazelnut crepes, eggs benedict, and their mascarpone fruit stuffed french toast!!

Great Breakfast. Service was a little slow but food was hearty portions, Very Hot and very fresh. I had the 3 egg spinach omelet with cheese from Cabot, Vt (spinnach was very fresh. the dish was excellent) My wife had pancake and home fries ( again excellent Local Vermont maple syrup :) Plenty of options for carnivores, Omnivores, and Herbivores.

It is what it is. Excellent breakfast, hot, quick, delicious, great service, clean, really good coffee. No attitude, just pleasant folks serving good, basic grub. Really liked the corned beef hash, wife liked her goat cheese omelet, SIL liked french toast. All good.

Yummy..BUT so inconsistent!! You can have yummy potatoes one day and then WAY OVER SALTED IN EDIBLE ones the next day. My eggs were way over done, my friend's were runny and grossing her out. Do not buy the corned beef hash if you have teeth! It was recommended to me by the waitress and it's a pancake of mashed salty potato and random bits if meat. Total disappointment.

This is for breakfast. No coffee refills, or at least in an hour there no one came by to offer. Ridiculous. Food was alright. Portions were modest for the price point. I was a bit disappointed.

I've had a couple of breakfasts here recently and am mostly impressed. Food is good and the kitchen is fairly quick. My biggest food complaint is the overly-seasoned deep-fried home fries. That's not just an issue with this place - it's getting harder and harder to find plain home fries cooked on a grill. Coffee is a lot stronger than I'm used to - the first cup is a little harsh but the second cup is much better after the taste buds know what's coming. Getting seated can be a problem. It's not a large place and is quite popular on weekends, so sometimes there's a wait. It helps if you're willing to sit at the bar. The person doing the seating isn't as observant as he could be either. Overall, good food and decent service.

Poor planning on our group's part turned out to work in our favor. We wanted take out and on New Year's Day not many restaurants were accommodating. Part of the group went to the restaurant and brought back luscious delights. My only complaint is that the beets on the salad were pickled and cut too large. Otherwise yummy!

We stopped here on our way home back to Connecticut after spending a few days in Stowe, VT. This was an excellent place for breakfast. Their oatmeal with nuts and locally grown fruit was outstanding. The pancakes were huge and delicious. Their orange juice was the only item that seemed of lesser quality. The service was excellent and our waitress was very pleasant. Price wise, they were high, but I felt we got our money's worth. Nice place.

Worst service I have ever had in a restaurant. Had to wait close to 20 minutes for a waitress to take our order and half the orders were wrong.

I ate at Maxi's this morning. I never read the menu because I always order the signature "champion breakfast" no matter what diner i happen to be eating at. I ate so much that my ass bled. It was delicious (the breakfast). That, coupled with the lovely waitress, has motivated me to actually use Yelp. What else need be said? Weesnaw.

We were looking for a place to have some real Vermont maple syrup and this was the only place we could find. There were really no reviews on here, so we decided to give it a try anyway. And it was well worth it! The breakfast was perfect! It was everything I'd hoped for. The service was great despite a full restaurant.

Very pleased with our experience. Atmosphere was casual, warm and friendly; seemed very popular with the locals. My chicken marsala was tender and moist, with plenty of yummy portabella mushrooms with a side of tasty zucchini. Loved the option of ordering a smaller portion size too. My husband was equally pleased with his corn chowder and hamburger, served on tasty foccacia bread instead of a boring roll. Service was fine, neither too fast nor too slow.

Great casual restaurant offering fresh ingredients and local Vermont atmosphere. To echo my tip I provided this place is open on Sundays at least until 2pm. Lunch starts at 11 and now that we have the logistics and housekeeping out of the way lets dig in! The wait was painful due to the crowds but WELL WORTH IT!! We were given menus to look at while we wait and there was a-lot to choose from. I had a party of 4 and we stopped here on our way back from VT to MA. We got seated at a nice table with plenty of room and had hot fresh coffees and our other beverages quickly I had the stuffed French toast and it was magical. The fresh fruit consisting of blueberry and strawberry made for a nice presentation and more importantly great flavor. In between the toast was a smooth Marscapone cheese . In addition I got a side of sausage. The entire plate was then drizzled with a local farm maple syrup. Delicious is a understatement and total silence came over our table as we were literally inhaling our food. At this point because I am a pig and on vacation I also ordered a English muffin with sausage gravy. This was both a good and bad decision at the some time as I felt like i needed to be rolled out of the restaurant at the end of the meal. The sausage gravy was amazing and full of nice spiced chunks of sausage. My friends all had the Route 2 special as it was full of option and value. Light Fluffy pancakes, your choice of meats and eggs your way. Good feedback all around from my mates.

Went here with six others for a pre-graduation celebration dinner. The place was empty so we were seated immediately. Our server was friendly, but just enough. The atmosphere was okay, it wasn't very distinguished or special inside. A bit chilly as well, so bring a sweater. As for the food, our entire table was really happy with everything. I got the shepherd's pie, which was good, though the onions in it were a little hard (as in not cooked all the way). I also noticed that once I was nearing the end of my portion, a piece of ground beef had a blue speck on it. No clue what it was, so I stopped eating after that. My boyfriend got the chicken carbonara and there was so much of it, he had to take the rest of it in a box. I'm seeing a lot of negative reviews about the service, and I can't totally agree because as a mentioned above, the place was empty. I do believe we were awkwardly greeted, as they didn't expect such a large party to come in. Also there was a waitress standing at the counter and waited until the last person was out the door to say goodbye to us (which happened to be me). All in all, it wasn't a memorable restaurant, but it was decent enough.

On our way back from Burlington after two days of intense exhibiting at the Vermont Business & Industry Expo and stopped at Maxi's, one of our favorite places to stop on many occasions between Burlington and our hometown of Windsor, Vermont. As was expected we always find the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful, and we always get our service with a smile. Thanks again maxi's for a job well done. Oh and yes, we love the food!

Went to Waterbury Vermont to visist the Ben & Jerry's Factory. Stopped at Maxi's for lunch after a long drive from NJ. Staff was friendly but very slow moving. We all ordered BLTs and it took way longer then it should have. The food was as good as to be expected. Not bad, not great.

Maxi's Is good, but not great. The food is usually very good, but the service can be an issue. They seem to hire mostly younger servers who just don't have the experience to be able to handle the busier times. The kitchen can tend to be a little slow as well, so you have to be ready to have a little longer lunch than usual.

Horrible Service. Waited 50 minutes for breakfast. They could've at least re-filled our coffees while we were waiting - but didn't. When we did get our breakfast the eggs weren't cooked properly (the egg whites were raw), they forgot my side dish, and when they did refill our coffee it was decaf coffee - we ordered regular coffee. When we mentioned the raw egg whites to one of the older waitstaff, we were told that was normal. The risk of salmonella is normal at this restaurant FYI. The waitstaff is young and inexperienced, unorganized, & the service is disjointed. And the topper!! As we walked out one of the teenage waitresses, not surprisingly said "What a pain!" to our backs when we walked out. This is 2nd time we've had an experience like this one - not again. I revisited the place 4 months later. I waited 30min for a french onion soup that never came. The excuse this time:" French onion soup usually takes longer to cook than the main course" OOOKKKKKAAAYYYYY. Then I still got charged for the soup. And a couple who came in after us got their soup!! No more tries. What a waste or restaurant real estate space in Waterbury.

Great breakfast but more expensive than park cafe up the road. Dinner okay if you're careful about what you order. Salads and French onion soup are great. Hot turkey sandwich is all bread. Stir fry is tasteless. Scallops are really good. You get the point. Decent wines by the glass at reasonable price.

We were referred by a local to try this place for dinner. The interior was nice with warm lighting and hardwood decorative touches. We ordered the Gouda mac & cheese, salad, sauteed veggies, mashed potatoes, and "home-made" meatloaf. After waiting 45min for our food, the mac & cheese was basically the cheap Kraft boxed mac & cheese (not even the Kraft premium ones, but the cheapest small macaroni ones). The meatloaf was over re-heated so the edges were dry, while the gravy over the whole plate formed a film/skin indicating the plate had been sitting in the kitchen for a while. The place had a constant stream of customers, but wasn't too busy for two waitresses and a waiter/bartender to handle. My companion noticed there was an insect in the water refill and our itemized bill showed higher prices on a few items compared to menu prices. Although we were still not full from the small portions, we decided to quickly leave to end the evening at Maxi's.
