This is just a really cool bar. I was in town solo on a conference and always feel a little weird going in places like this alone. I however felt so welcome on day 1, that I went back on day 2! They have plenty of local brews and I tried several. We really got the whole bar into the KY Derby and the big fight. It was just a really fun time. I did have the fish and chips which were really good, along with the Irish Potato skins. All the food sounded pretty much like your average Irish pub. I would definitely go back and look forward to my next trip to Stowe! Ask for Conor at the bar! Nice guy!

Are here twice while skiing at stowe and staying at the hotel across the street. The food here is unbelievably good. From the mussels to the steak, and mixed drinks. Service was awesome too :)

After a long day on the road, my wife and I dropped in at night. We sat at the bar and were immediately befriended by the bartender, Connor, who served great drinks, told funny stories and made us feel like regulars on our first visit. Good times...

It was hot, sticky, day so why the AC was not running is a mystery that only the nine million flies inside the restaurant can answer. Our waiter was a sweet young boy, nice smile, soft spoken. None of us had the heart to tell him his fly was open the entire time we were there. The prices were OK for Stowe, the Over-Priced Everything Capitol of Vermont. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food except me as I'm pretty sure the meat in my Philly Cheesesteak was spoiled. Odd thing: everyone at the table had fries with their meal, when my son asked for ketchup, the sweet waiter brought a tiny metal cup of ketchup to him. I guess we all should have asked for our own tiny little ketchups but there was that whole "open fly" thing going on so we just averted our eyes. When we were done I used my debit card to pay the $92 bill and we left a $20 cash tip. I wrote "cash" on the tip line of the bill so the waiter would know to look for the money in the folder. Imagine my surprise when I received my bank statement and the amount debited from my account was $10.00 more than the amount I signed for! It appears that the waiter, or someone, wrote in an additional $10.00 tip! Three phone calls to the restaurant and no one has called back to resolve this. It's a shame because we go to Stowe every summer with a large group of families but we won't be going back to O'Grady's.

The "O in Stowe" is a must stop destination for a hearty, home cooked meal. Large portions, pleasant ambiance, and a wide array of beers on tap. Oh, and did I mention they also have the BEST Reuben sandwich in the lands! Definitely my new go-to spot for a pint and home cooked meal.

Nice people run this restaurant.. But the place needs a little updating. TV on the wall in the dining area by the fireplace should disappear, wires hanging all under it. AC dropped into the wall with wires hanging down. new paint would do wonders and wall art should be changed and or cleaned. Just some good old sweat equity would do this place wonders. Food was not worth what they charge. Mussels where not cleaned properly, medium rare burger was over well done, prime rib was small for the price ( tasty ). Bread pudding was a brick of bread. Service was attentive as there was only one other couple at 6 pm on a Saturday. They have a great spot it just needs a little sprucing up and maybe a new chef... I won't be back until I hear something has changed.

Meh. Don't expect outstanding food. The fish n chips were alright, the kid's version "fish sticks" were so bland, I could very well understand that my son stuck to the chips. Ordered the prime rib medium and medium rate and got two very well done pieces. Disappointing. But friendly service and quick seating, which was nice on a holiday Saturday night.

I had dinner here and decided to sit at the bar. It was a good decision because I saw more than one couple get seated, then walk out. Not sure why, but I'm guessing it is either because they waited too long, or they were turned off by the prices. I wasn't crazy about the prices either, especially after I got my food. I had the French dip sandwich with the buttermilk mashed potatoes. The sandwich was well presented. It was loaded with roast beef and had melted cheese on top. That's not to say the sandwich was hot. Just the cheese was melted; the sandwich itself was stone cold. it was still good, though. The au jus was hot and a bit salty, but it flavored the cold beef. The potatoes, I'm sorry to say, were not good. There was no seasoning at all. This meal was $13.95. I ate it because I was darn hungry, but I probably will go somewhere else next time. One thing I can say is that the owner and bartender were really friendly. I guess if not want to have a beer this is a good place. Maybe not for food, though.

The first time we came here a year ago we had a great experience. I got some sort of special mussels dish in a red sauce and I'm willing to bet my boyfriend got a chicken dish. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced and our waiter was very attentive and pleasant. The beer selection is definitely good. This time we were a bit less impressed. I got the prime rib special. It was gigantic but it was kind of a grey color and a little overcooked for what I ordered, though the side potato and spinach salad were decent. My boyfriend got the chicken curry dish and it was tasty but nothing we couldn't do at home. I got the creme brulee dessert and it was quite good and we both enjoyed our beers. All in all, not so enthused about this most recent trip, but to be honest, I would go back and give it another try and update my review. Our first experience was a good one and the staff here seem really great.

Our first stop in Vermont! O'Gradys was right across the street from our hotel -the Golden Eagle so we had to check it out. Nice cozy bar atmosphere, TVs in the different rooms so you can watch the game while you eat, just like at home. We tried a couple brews on tap all local all delicious. For food - we had the fish and chips and the classic burger. You know its a good place- if they tell you the burger comes with cheese, mushrooms, and bacon and you don't have to add them on. Everything was super tasty. I was really impressed since both meals are done at most bars but they were exceptionally good. The wait staff was super friendly but not pushy. Great place for dinner or a few drinks.

I would suggest you stay away. Party of 6. We stood around for 20 minutes. They were NOT busy, yet we could not get seated. Instead we walked out and went to a great bbq joint. See my other reviews for details.

Ridiculous prices l, mediocre food. Had plates designed to make it look like there was more food. Avoid.

What can I say? I've had the delicious ribs, the amazing wings, the grilled romaine salad (which is to die for), and the lobstah roll. My hubby always enjoys the cioppino (sp) and the crab cakes. They have a diverse menu and are extremely consistent with taste and plating. The other night they offered a "special" which was roast duck breast with coconut, curry sauce that was to die for. The duck was perfectly done, the seasonings were fresh and the cilantro, green onion and tomato was a wonderful addition. Family owned, great atmosphere.

Great Irish Pub on the main Rd just out of Stowe. The food is good with great choice of beers best place in town. You'll be sorry if you don't give it a go.

This place was a quick walk from my hotel. I went Sunday night, by the time we left, we(mom, brother, friend and friend's parents and I) were the only people left in the restaurant. Seriously, the only people left. The food was good. I found the Irish Nachos good, the potatoes were a little chewy, I prefer crunchy potatoes. I also ordered the Turkey Club sandwich and the bread was toasted perfectly, the turkey was moist and yummy and the bacon helps also! Overall, I was happy with O'Grady's!

Had a great dinner at O'Grady's on New Year's Day with the whole family. We have two small kids and felt very welcome. The owner greeted us and our waiter was awesome. I'd describe the food as higher end pub fare as they definitely put thought and care into their meals. My wife had the shepherd's pie and I had the prime rib special - we were both very pleased. The beer list was large, with lots of local beer on tap. Finally, I have to commend the portion sizes and choices on the kids plates - they get a kid sizes side of fries or a choice of apples or veggies - rather than defaulting to a whole basket of fries. Someone in the back is getting the details right.

Coming to O'Grady's after being very disappointed by the ridiculous, pricy bistros in Stowe was a big surprise! The decor had a split personality which to me goes with the town... Irish bar at the entrance, quiet "winter loft" in the back. We ate family - style to try more food. The Guinness pour was one of the best I ever had. Oysters this far from the sea were still fresh and tasty, the chowder was better than average, and the filet mignon special was crazy good. The chef working here right now needs to get some props for quality and some creativity, as cornbread, mango salsa, scallops, and filet mignon are a strange, but yummy mix! I may drive extra distance just to go back to O'Grady's.

We LOVED LOVED LOVED this place! My husband and I are big Yelp lovers and this place was given a great rating. We were welcomed by the owners Sue and Kevin immediately. Not to mention their son Connor made us feel at home too! We started talking and come to find out they were from NY and CT. We are from NJ so we had a lot to discuss. Each one of them was extremely personable which made us not want to leave at all. I had the Guinness Beef Stew and ordered a side of mashed potatoes. Gotta have mashed at an Irish joint! My husband had this gnocchi and lamb special that was amazing too! They asked what we were in town for and we told them that it was our honeymoon. We just got married on Saturday. After finishing our dinner, their son Connor brought us out the most decadent dessert. A Jameson Chocolate Flourless cake with Congratulations written on the plate. How sweet was that? When we were getting ready to leave we were hugging the owners. They made us feel like we were part of their family. We will definitely be back!!!

O'Grady's is your basic Irish pub and has a large seating area in the back. We went there the day after they opened, although we sat next to table of 14 elderly people that could not stop discussing their wedding in the previous establishment 50 years ago TO THE DAY!!!11!!1!!! Although they have basic pub fare, you can find a few seafood and Irish flourishes on the menu. I started with a crab casserole, which was crostini with a gooey bowl of cheese, cream and crab. Nice taste but way too heavy. My burger was surprisingly good - very well cooked and served on warm focaccia bread. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food. Our waitress was very sweet but incredibly nervous and stumbling over her words. This made it a little awkward at times, but I imagine this was first week jitters. If you're looking for pub food, this seems like a solid option.

I have to downgrade my review of this place because the quality of food has definitely slipped since my original post. They got rid of the Irish Nachos which was a big disappointment. Also, the shrimp and grits was way different.... Too much sauce, not enough grits.

We LOVED this place! Our server was Matt- he was prompt and friendly. There's no mistaking it, the bar area is an authentic Irish pub. Warm, cozy, jolly :), and well stocked. I wish the ambiance carried over to the rest of the restaurant! The bartender/host was super nice as well, and perhaps the manager? checked in with us as we were leaving. Great service all around. The food was delicious. The blue cheese dressing had dill in it? It was genius on our wings. The burger was served on perfectly baked focaccia bread- another genius move- and the corned beef was as good as it comes. Seriously, the corned beef was a taste of home. My husband and I both remarked that this was the best place we've eaten at while in Stowe.

Delicious food, excellent chef. We had the meatloaf, fish and chips and surf &turf. All were excellent, and we had hearty portions. The Malbec I had was very nice. Staff is very nice and helpful, and we were seated next to a big toasty fire and also a big screen TV, so we could enjoy sports while we dined. I even loved my green beans, which I do not usually like much at all. Would return!

I have been coming to Stowe regularly for the past 15 years and can honestly say no place in the area compares to O'Grady's. High quality food, a great bar, and outstanding service. If your looking for a good meal or a few drinks, O'Grady's is your spot.

In a pinch, this place is pretty good. They had a nice selection of local beers, and the food was tasty, although not very memorable. Even though I ate there only two nights ago, I had to think about what it was I got. I would return, and it was a better choice than Kobe, and about on par with Rimrocks, however the atmosphere was more low key.

My family has been coming to Stowe for over 20 years, we decided to finally try O'Gradys the day before St Patricks day. As we walked in the place didn't seem busy at all but we still ended up waiting for at least five minutes before being greeted by the host. After she brought us to our table she informed us of their specials only to leave us waiting for our server another ten min... Okay. I work in a restaurant and understand completely how it goes, when you're busy your busy and things take time...but this place wasn't anything close to busy. Once our server got to us she informed us that they couldn't make house salads because they're only running specials but could make a side salad(no difference?). My vegetarian friend ordered the side salad only for it to be on a small rectangular plate with baby spinach and a few small tomatoes, VERY disappointing. The corn beef and cabbage was the saltiest thing I've ever tasted and the vegetables that came with it were only half cooked. Once dinner was over we looked at the bill, 120 dollars for a very lame meal. At least the live band they had playing was nice to listen to. Will probably never return here.

Great place for a quick lunch: Homemade food and not crowded. This place is reminiscent of a ski lodge with cute VT-centric decor and lots of comfort food on the menu. We enjoyed the mac and cheese and the gumbo, both of which were tasty and made with quality ingredients. There was a bar area that looked well-stocked, so this may also be a great place for a drink. Service was efficient and pleasant.

A quiet little pub with small restaurant. Maple chicken wings and mussels were excellent starters. Shepard pie, surf and turf and corned beef were pleasing to my 12 and 17 yr d kids as well as my wife and I. Finished with some surprisingly good deserts, i.e., flour less tort, pumpkin cheesecake and maple creme brûlée. Wait staff was attentive and courteous as they geared up for a big presidents week rush. Overall a very good family place.

Had a GREAT lunch today at O'Grady's - Perfectly cooked burger and an Alchemist Heady Topper. The owners came up and introduced themselves to me at the bar, making me feel like I'd known them for years! Such a friendly environment. Very reasonably priced food, drink, and great atmosphere that's anything but stuck-up Stowe, O'Grady's is a must-visit.

We stopped in for lunch and loved the food and service. We both went for the specials - roasted red pepper bisque for my husband and a grilled chicken wrap with mango corn salsa for me. Both were great and the fries were amazing. One person was manning the tables and bar, but service was never slow. He even served two ladies coffee on the porch! If you're looking for a great casual place, try it out!

Food: Had the burger, asked for medium and got medium. The fries were fantastic. The roll choice on the burger is quite good, however, it was very stale to the point of being crouton-like in the corners. Another member of the party had the same problem. We had to ask for bread, which is a little bit of a cheap touch. Having said that, the bread offered is a sweet and delicious corn bread. Atmosphere: Not sure they have finished construction (new business and recent renovation). No blinds on the windows meant that the sunset poked us in the eye the whole time. The windows themselves are new, as evidenced by the partially removed stickers. The light switch next to our table had no face plate. The parking lot is gravel, which is certainly great for drainage, but it meant that the windows are very filthy. Menu: The shepherd's pie isn't really what most people in the US and the UK think of as shepherd's pie. Oh and no fish and chips at an Irish pub, is this some sort of joke? Stale bread aside, the food is excellent and the service is good. It may be quirky and unfinished, but the food itself is definitely worth trying.

Had a great meal, and the kids were very happy with their food. The only thing we did not like was the Shepards Pie. Nice beer selection and the waiter was very attentive.

Probably wont be back. To me the food was eh, ok. We had 4 in our group and all thought the same. We had fish n chips, corn beef and cabbage amongst our meals. The fish n chips were a little soggy, certainly not the best Ive had. The corned beef n cabbage was made in a bowl with broth and hubs thought it tasted extremely salty and the dish was all potatoes and hardly no beef..He said the best part was the grain mustard The dining room is very plain, no decorations, no festive feeling etc ....You can certainly do much better in Stowe, not sure we'll be back here again until I hear of better things...We all wished we went to Pie in the Sky right next door...

Nice atmosphere, excellent food! I had the Shepard's pie and my wife had the corned beef and cabbage, both were delicious, even the cold left overs the next day. I'd go back and order the same again and again.

In a pinch, it's probably not a bad place, bug if you're in a hurry or have an agenda (or kids), I'd have to advise against. Service was slow and food delivery slower. The food was average to slightly above average.

  • Ellen S.

Service was good. I had lamb stew (soup of the day) which was excellent, and fish and chips, which was blah. I would definitely go back because it was a pretty good looking and menu. And the lamb stew was an indication that they do know how to cook.

We live in Stowe and have been to O'Grady's several times, including taking family when visiting from out of state. Generally, it is a great experience with good food. My father raved his Reuben sandwich was the best he has ever had - and this is a man who has had MANY Reuben sandwiches, and I have NEVER seen him send compliments to a chef outside of a very fancy restaurant. So, I would say, if you want a great Reuben sandwich, O'Grady's is the place to go in Stowe. I have had several different dishes, mostly sandwiches, and always enjoyed them, but found they need a little seasoning. We LOVE their Irish Nachos - thick potato chips with all the toppings, with a side of their AMAZING BBQ house sauce (the secret is the maple syrup). If they aren't on the menu when you go, just ask - they will often still be able to do them for you. So, food is good to great. Service is where my heart kinda sinks. We typically have gone at odd hours in the middle of the day during the off-season, and get fairly good service, but feel kind of like we are an annoyance they have to deal. The bar area is hopping most of the time, but the dining room can be a wastelast during the off-season. Recently, we went during the height of a big tourist weekend and got seated quickly, but after a brief order session with our waitress we were left on our own and had basically the worst service I have seen in this area. Our food was brought by a kitchen staff member without any condiments (no ketchup for his fries or malt vinegar for my fish and chips). We ate a leisurely pace and not once were our glasses refilled after being empty by the time we got our food. About 20 minutes after finishing our food a waitress serving two other tables in our area picked up our plates with just a hello and then we sat for another 20 minutes until the first ever sighting of our waitress who just dropped off our receipt and said 'thanks". She didn't even offer up a dessert menu or ask if we wanted coffee. Needless to say, we were extremely disappointed and wished we were the type of people that could leave no tip without feeling horrible. So, we left a minimal 13% tip and left without even a bat of an eye from our waitress, as we figured out she was putting all her effort into a large private party in another room. General Review: Food = B+ Service = anywhere from F to B-, depending on the day and time. UPDATE: Went again, off season and off hour and got fantastic service. Really seems to be an issue of timing and luck in getting a good server.

Went there tonight for dinner, on recomendation of local massuese. Had a great burger! Side of mashed potato was very good as well, andl iked both the onion soup and spinach salad. Very good choice of beers, half the draft choices were local Vermont brews. Our table had selections from Otter Creek, Magic Hat, and Rock Art. All for very reasonable prices compared to what we had on pther nights at other local eaterys. Most tables were occupied yet service was prompt, and our server was very knowedgeable on the brews. Will definately return on future visits.

Blue cheese dressing is amazing - with the best calamari sauce as well! The group had mostly fish & chips which they gave rave reviews. The lobster roll and mussels are also recommended. A great dinner indeed!
