Prolly the best burritos in the north east. Great vegetarian and vegan options. Everything is superb much like every thing around in this region. Vegetables are fresh and juicy. Cheese used is excellent. You can taste Vermont in the burritos. Also the best part is that they retail Heady Topper which is harder to secure than a winning lottery.

Delish spot, stopped in here on our way through Stowe. Loved their pulled pork and fried chicken burritos. SO filling - I probably would have split one next time. YUM!

The family and I visited Bender's Burritos for a little bit of mexican in northern VT. I had the Cod (grilled) Burrito and while the fish was very fresh and had a nice light flavor to it, the rest of the burrito was little bland. I had salsa (I think it was just from a jar but I could be wrong) and then some guacamole to jazz it up. That helped but some additional saracha did the trick even more. My son loved his cheese steak burrito - it did look quite good and after a few attempts of asking how it was, I still did not get to sample! He had to get the hint, right? :) The rest of the family had the BBQ Chicken, Pulled Pork and Buffalo Chicken. No complaints from the group as they enjoyed their meal. We also had some chips and quac/salsa. As mentioned before, the salsa was just ok. The quac was pretty good and was eagerly demolished by everyone. If I went again, I may try something different but I can't complain too much when they offer Heady Topper.

My parents and I chose to eat here based on other reviews. We were surprised that we didn't really enjoy our meals, because most other people seem to like it. The burritos were super-dense, like logs, and did not pack much flavor. The service was also mediocre. No smiles. No welcome. No "how is everything?" An overall poor dinner.

I came here superbowl Sunday for a quick bite before the game started. I decided to get the chicken burrito and my friend got the fried chicken burrito. Food was great, friendly service, convenient location with parking. You get good bang for your buck here; prices are low and portions are large. I loved how they grilled the outside of the burrito after it was wrapped, which gave it a nice crispy touch. The flavors were all great. My friend especially loved the unique fried chicken flavor in his burrito. I also enjoyed trying out various hot sauces on my burrito. There was a green one that tasted great, and the ghost pepper one was very spicy and also had bold flavors beyond the heat. Next time I ski stowe, I'll be sure to drop by again.

Great burritos. Fresh ingredients and I like the way the burrito is slightly toasted on the grill. Simple but tasty food.

Wow, so much worse than expected, this place was recommended but Meat was incredibly dry. There was what appeared to be undercooked potato cubes in it. Only iceberg lettuce and mealy tomatoes inside, no rice, no beans, no cilantro, no grilled peppers or onions. I don't recommend even giving this place a try. One of the worst burritos I've had in my life, yuck! The tables were all dirty and prices were expensive, you're better off with a gas station burrito.

Were can can you get a tofu, sweet potato or fish burrito? Amazing. Friendly service, fair pricing and unique burritos that we split and ate the rest for lunch the next day. Price and quality once of our best meals in Stowe. Fancy Cape Codders can go elsewhere.

A great joint offering some well made burritos. Compares well to Chipotle. Their tortilla chips are freshly fried. The highlight is their sauces. Beware, they are actually spicy! A great flavor and a diverse offering of 4-5 different types that taste different. The smokey chipotle was my favorite. They also have Heady Topper cans for on premises consumption.

I guess this is like a more inventive take on Chipotle in VT. The service is nice and friendly and guided us through their regular menu and their giant list of specials. The gf and I came here for lunch and I got a buffalo chicken burrito that was supposed to be spicy and got their hottest hot sauce as well as all the other hot sauces on there. I have to say that despite all the heat that was supposed to be there it was just okay. The burrito was all right too, just kind blah. My gf's fried burrito was also just okay, it didn't really knock our socks off.

As a native San Diegan I feel like I have a pretty good grasp on what qualifies as good fast Mexican food. Benders was everything I could have hoped for and more! Their surf and turf burrito was excellent filled with large cuts of meat and shrimp. The ghost chili pepper hot sauce from the salsa bar was smoky and HOT! I loved it. To cap off the meal, I was able to order a heady topper to wash it all down. Folks, if it gets better than this I don't want to know about it. I'll be stopping by next time I'm in Stowe, which I hope is soon!

Guys, it's been too long and this is way overdue. The wife and I made our first trip up to VT this past Fall, and while we didn't originally plan to visit Stowe we made some time. Bender's Burritos is located a few stores down from the state booze and hooch store, on the main drag up through Stowe. The wife and I stopped in for a burrito and a beer and what we got was so much more! The employees of Benders were outstanding. These were guys with great demeanors, who took the time to talk to everyone and could make one heck of a burrito. We discussed the Winters they have, sights that out-of-towners may want to see but honestly were not worth it, and little gems that were. We discussed beer and food, and it felt like home. They also had Heady Topper, and as a beer guy this was a huge plus. I had my first Heady Topper here, and it went really well with my surf-and-surf burrito. To commemorate my first Heady, they gave me a lid to the can and a few stickers from Alchemist Brewery. Where else are you going to find real, personable folk like that? I'm not a fan of giving 5 stars, but these guys deserve it. They gave great conversation, an awesome burrito, had a fantastic beer on tap and hooked me up to make it all the more memorable. Please give these guys your business.

Ok, I had the food game all messed up in Stowe... I'm your typical New Englander who treks up to Stowe a handful of times every season for weekend and day trips and I normally get in my day of skiing, wash up and head out to get some beers and grub. In my advanced age now (just turned 30 haha) getting my shit together after a long day of skiing is tough - ESPECIALLY when you have a bomb ass burrito place that delivers! So I stopped in recently and was floored at the quality of their taco's and burrito's. My fiancee and I started off with their hummus & carrot platter with hummus. Seemed like they made their own hummus and used freshly chopped celery and carrots, gold star for that. We then split some taco's and a fried cod burrito with the works. Off. The. Chain. Really the perfect meal for apres ski or just your normal everyday lunch. And for you beer aficionados out there - they have Heady Topper (which is one of the best Double IPA's in the country, hands down). So rather than get all cleaned up and out to dinner next time, I'm gonna kick it in some sweats, grab some beers and crush food from this place in my hotel/cabin.

I've been going to bender's since it opened and have always enjoyed it - especially the hot sauce bar. They always have some new crazy spicy sauce to try and will add them to your burrito as they make it if you ask. My boyfriend usually goes through about 8 sample cup shooters of hot sauce before the food is ready. Last week I discovered the roasted veggie burrito - that will be my go to order from now on. I am not a vegetarian by any means but it is so good. I definitely recommend that but you can't go wrong really. We usually do take out but it's nice to have a beer there too and watch a game or whatever.

After 3 bad meals here, I called to speak to the owner. Although he wasn't concerned about the food, he asked if I was a local...to which i replied yes, and every time in his burrito joint, i had a bad experience. He didn't seem surprised or offer any consolation, just thanks for calling. He'll continue to get tourists for a one time meal, but know this Bender, that locals will keep your business afloat. Not this local, though. Adios!

I definitely recommend this place for a vegan/vegetarian place that is not too expensive in the Stowe area. There are a couple options and it tasted fresh! Plus they have Heady Toppers so you can sip that with your burrito/taco/bowl. It is a small place with limited seating but not a problem when I went there for early dinner.

My absolute favorite lunch. I call ahead and am never disappointed - ever. The food is very 'fresh'.... not dead from being prepped hours ahead of time. Very fair pricing and all 3 who are usually working there couldn't be nicer. The rest. is clean! Thanks guys

Bender's is a quick and tasty cure for your burrito and taco desires while in Stowe. Pros: Location: easy in and out being right on the mountain road, no need to fight pedestrian traffic or hunt for a parking spot downtown. Menu: small and simple, mostly burritos and tacos with a few specials, fresh ingredients, bottled beverages, plus a few great local beers on tap. Staff/vibe: super friendly and relaxed, answered our questions, brought our food to us when it was ready. Cons: Size: the dining area is small and can fill up in a hurry if there's a rush, which happened when we went. There were a few plastic tables and chairs set up outside but there was rain. With a small room full of people it can also get pretty loud. Condiments: there appeared to be only one set of squeeze bottles of house-made hot sauces (three in total if I remember) with one of them empty. One of the groups eating snagged them and held onto them at their table. It's a bit awkward having to interrupt someone else's meal to ask for the condiments they're using. I think there may have been a stand off in the corner with utensils and another set of condiments but it was tucked away and slightly hidden - I didn't notice it until I was leaving. All in all there are few cons which don't interfere with the main reason for going - great food and friendly service. A few tips for the management: buy a bunch of smaller, cheap squeeze bottles and put your sauces out on every table in the dining area. Also, make some clear and easily visible signage pointing out the location for your silverware/napkins/help-yourself type of stuff. Lastly, maybe invest in some outdoor furniture with big umbrellas to expand the seating area, even during slightly inclement weather. Otherwise, keep up the great work and thank you for a tasty lunch!

Excellent Burritos, I had the grilled chicken (so happy it wasn't just dry chicken but marinated) my husband had the grilled steak and added the chipotle salsa which was nice and spicy! I plan on trying the tacos and from what I have tasted so far I won't be disappointed

Six of us stopped here on a Saturday night in August when most restaurants are impossible to get in. We were able to sit outdoors with our dog and beat the crowds. Every single one of us loved the food. Very fresh, flavorful food with friendly service. This place is a keeper, we'll be back.

Passing through because we did the drive through smugglers notch and shopped for end-of-season snowboarding gear. Super hungry after all of that. There was a picture on yelp of the fish tacos that looked really fresh. They look and taste the way they are shown - trust me, amazing!

Pretty hit or miss--I ordered a couple of fish tacos, complete with their "baja slaw." I liked that they give you the option of grilled or fried fish--I got mine with the grilled tilapia. Fish was a little over-seasoned, but cooked well. Tortillas definitely not homemade and, for some reason, lightly pan-fried--I asked for "soft." As an fyi, fish tacos should be in flour tortillas, so that was a slight misstep. Guac was so-so, but the fresh cilantro and pico de gallo were very good. Now, the main no-no--the "baja slaw" is nothing more than mayo (or sour cream?) mixed in with cabbage. Poorly seasoned, tasted bland. It ruined the fish taco. Once I removed it from the top, the taco was much, much better. I'd advise people to avoid putting that crap on top of their taco--it detracts from the taste. Salsas: The verde (green) was alright, but the chipotle was excellent. Customer service at this place was nonexistent, another no-no in my book. The owner sat at the bar with his laptop and didn't look up, except for a brief semi-scowl. No local beers, just crap in bottles. 3 stars for the tacos, but get it without the slaw.

Every ski town needs a burrito shop and Benders fits the bill. Everything you need.. Nothing you don't. A little short on flavor but plenty of hot sauce and salsa to make it your own. Pleasant atmosphere and plenty of seating for you & a few pals. Bottled beer available.

A great quick meal and you wont break the bank. We had quesadillas and tacos and wanted a change from the previous nights of spending alot on dinner. This is perfect for that. Our meal was tasty and filling too. We sat at the outdoor tables on a beautiful evening in stowe. Its located next to the State Liquor store.

My girlfriend and I came here for lunch after our snowboard day was rained out. I eat a ton of Mexican food and this place did not disappoint. Great burritos and very friendly service. I recommend the grilled steak burrito with the chipotle salsa. SLAMMIN! p.s. the fries are really good too. p.p.s. they serve beer, as does pretty much everywhere that serves food in stowe, including the movie theater!

Stopped here for lunch one day while traveling from CT. The burritos taste good, are filling and priced nicely. Parking is easy to find and the people behind the counter friendly. We had the veggie quesadilla and the burrito. The food came out fast. Both were good, but we liked the quesadilla more than the burrito. Like other reviewers have mentioned, the house made sauces are the stars here. Special mention to the Maple Ginger Jamaican hot sauce which is really good. It started off a little sweet and had a fiery finish. Definitely for people who can tolerate spice and heat, but this sauce is not one note. We were informed they are bottling the sauces, we will be looking out for this one. All in all, a pretty good experience.

Pros: Burritos are pretty good. They are very nicely wrapped (no dripping). They have Mexican Coke. Cons: The TV was blasting some stupid show that made conversation difficult. I would have given it 4 stars if they were playing nice music instead of TV. Also, I would not compare Bender's to Chipotle (like another reviewer did). They're very different.

  • Beth M.

This was so terrible that I can only assume that the owner has his friends writing the other reviews. We had dry and cold chicken and what tasted like bottled salsa on the burritos. They even have the nerve to charge for salsa on you burrito. As if $19 for two burritos was not ridiculous to start with. I would not recommend this place!

We came here for a beer, which was good, but the manager was openly rude to customers. Disappointing to see that behavior in a small restaurant like this

We've been here ~15 times. Sometimes we eat there. Sometimes we get take out and eat it in the notch. Sometimes we eat elsewhere, but then stop for take out and bring it home for lunch the next day. You might call it a hole in the wall, except it's clean. It's small with about 6 tables plus sometimes a couple more outside. There is a TV that can be blocked by people, but then again not too many people watch it. Parking is easy. The food is good. We've had a variety of items. Nothing disappointed. You can pretty much ask for anything and not have to stick with menu items. One thing I like is that they don't overwhelm their burritos with beans. They have a bunch of hot sauces which you can ask them to put directly in your burrito. I recommend the honey-habanero. They have local beers along with Heady Topper.

I've been here five or six times now. The thing that stands out the most to me is the lack of consistency. I just ordered take out and there was a large amount of pork in my burrito, to much actually. It was also colorless and tasted/smelled like canned tuna. I only managed to eat half of it... I also recently went in to dine and was overwhelmed by the amount of garlic and the spiciness of the "Verde" salsa which was not as hot the last time I had it. The interior of the restaurant is very warm and well thought out. Except for the television which gets blocked by peoples heads... Behind the counter seems very clean, however I feel that more attention should be spent in cleaning condiment containers. I suggest you guys go into New World Tortilla in Burlington. Take notes.

  • T H.

These guys have it down to say the least. Their burritos kill it and I would highly suggest the cheesesteak burrito with some pico de gallo and Jimbo's chipotle hot sauce...which is also bottled and forsale. Definitely give the honey habanero a try if your a hots person! Whatever you choose on the menu, you won't go wrong. Along with the burritos, they have a great local beer selection including Heady Toppers! The music is always rockin and they usually have some good ski videos rollin on the big screen. Definitely a joint worth checking out!

Kind of a strange vibe. Like the food, the staff seemed blah. I had a chix burrito and it wasn't very memorable - not good nor bad. The place is just okay.

First time we went we were starving and ordered the nachos plus a burrito each, and I had to take most of my burrito home - they offer filling food! The nachos were quite good, but I wish the cheese had been more consistently melted to the bottom layer. They have some standard fare burritos (chicken, ground beef, carnitas) and then some very unique options (sweet potato with black bean or my sweetie's favorite - fried chicken strips with fries, slaw, and gravy all wrapped in a burrito -bleaaagh to me, but he loves it). Some of the fillings are very light on seasoning, but they offer an array of house-made hot sauces that are beyond spicy. We also like the tacos, but they are less filling and I find them a bit greasy. If you want something lighter, but not too greasy, the quesadilla is your best bet. If you think you will be there often, ask to get your name on the wall - each time you come in you earn a tally to go towards a free burrito!

This is my favorite place to go for a quick bite when in Stowe! Their sweet potato burrito is so good -- filled w/ flavor and they grill the burrito for a nice added touch! The staff could insert a bit more enthusiasm though. I can't wait to go back on my next visit there!

I like having a place where we can pick something up quick. This satisfied that. We ordered a roasted veggie burrito & grilled tilapia soft tacos. Taco's were pretty good lacked some flavor I was hoping to find in the slaw, but not bad. Burrito was huge, what I tried of it was delicious and flavorful. Liked the salsa I believe it was trail fire. Restaurant was clean and neat. Staff could be a little friendlier but we were pleased and will come back again! Great prices and food :)

This place is a yes!!! Fresh, fantastic food! Presentation was great! Friendly service. The corn tortillas were yummy. A great alternative to the high priced sit down restaurants which besiege the area. Kid friendly! Not to mention a wonderfully priced kids options. Win, win, win. I do not write reviews often and felt it important to congratulate this place for doing it right. Mostly because I wish to see them next year when we return on vacation! If you are looking for great food...you found it. Just a note that the decor and seating area is small and very basic...not for a romantic evening out.

Finally a quick spot for burritos in stowe. Good food, new to town can only imagine how good they'll get! Lots of hot sauce options. Im a fan

Excellent place for lunch. Burritos are large and in charge! Our party tried all the specialty burritos (some might be better described as wraps) and loved them all. Good selection of drinks from the cooler (lemonades, teas, etc) with four beers on tap. You can also get canned Heady Topper here for $7. Chips are great as well.

We found this place through Yelp. My bf and I were looking for Mexican after a long day of kayaking. We were completely satisfied. I got the surf and turf burrito. This consisted of steak, shrimp, pico de Gallo, cheese, and aioli sauce. Soooo good. I enjoyed it and would get it again. My bf got a pulled pork, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole taco. He liked it very much. We also shared the nachos and both got Shed beers. Overall we thought everything was delicious. We didn't know this place existed where it did so we thank other Yelpers for their help.

Fantastic burritos. Probably the best veggie burrito I have ever had. Also, they have Alchemist on tap. Nice outdoor seating as well. I will definitely be back.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
