My wife and I used Let's Pretend Cateriing for our wedding a few weeks ago and we wanted to praise them for their great work (I don't usually take the time to write reviews, but they were so exceptional). Lianne and Daniel did an excellent job catering our wedding. All of our guests were very impressed with the food and service, and the compliments just keep rolling in. From our first email exchange with Brandi during the winter through the day of the event in July, the staff at Let's Pretend were very communicative and professional. They helped us come up with a schedule for the day, and assisted us in putting up decorations and moving chairs and tables between the ceremony and dinner. This is really a full-service company. Even though we had less than 30 guests, the staff treated us like we were having a huge gala for hundreds of people (we were even lucky enough to have both owners, Daniel and Lianne, on-site the day of our wedding). They were willing to come all the way from Vermont, taking a ferry with all of their supplies, to make our big day amazing. Thank you!

Went here this morning to pick up my wedding cake and I am thoroughly impressed! The cake was more than a reasonable price and it looks amazing! Now on top of that, we ordered two breakfast sandwiches on their special of the day scone, scallion. Yummy! The sandwiches were huge and fueled my fiance and I for most of the day. I will definitely be back to try more creations!
If you are on Shelburne Road and are hungry for lunch go to Klinger's Bakery...if you want a cup of coffee and a nice pastry go to Klinger's. They have great sandwiches, good soups and very nice pastry. Of course you can find good breads there too.Everything can be "to go". You need a birthday cake get it there...the best carrot cake...very good croissants, all kinds of breakfast rolls. Mirabelle's in downtown Burlington has slightly better pastries, however parking is a nightmare, usually. There is plenty of parking at Klinger's.
As a regular of Klingers, I appreciate their options in a fairly scant area for cafes. Starbucks is the main rival a few blocks down but Klingers has charm and is a peaceful alternative to the hussle and energy of SBs. Their wine selection is well curated; cakes and bread excellent; their pastries are a little hit and miss. Some things they get right but their muffins are lacking and almond croissant is too heavy - not light as it should be. The staff are fine and could be a little friendlier but I appreciate the turnover is probably quite high. My only other qualm would be the lack of self-serve coffee area to help when it's busy, so it does not tie up a staff member getting coffee unless making a specialty coffee. They should trust us to pour one ourselves! The Trompe L'oeil mural on the walls is also a nice touch to give it some character. A good place to meet, do some reading, work and the pastries are half-price after 4pm.

Ben & Jerry’s

Reviews:
One of the best ice creams in the world and it's well known globally. Great flavors, real ingredients, and simply delicious. Just wanted to point out that this particular venue is not the location of the factory which is actually located in Waterbury, VT. This is the administrative office and headquarters of the Ben & Jerry's company.
The Ben and Jerry's Factory tour is a must if you're in the area. I must say it's not one of the best factory tours, but it's relatively cheap $4/per person and they do have a couple activities to keep kids entertained. They have a tie dye shirt making area, a playgrounds, a photo-op area, etc. There's also a gift shop area wither some great memorabilia.
This Ben and Jerry experience I had was great. No ice cream can compare to B & J ever. What many people do not know is that every single flavor is made with fair trade contracts which is good for all the local farmers and small family owned companies in Vermont. Let us get to the good part! The ice cream part!!! The ice cream was of course nothing short of amazing. I got one scoop of the famous Cherry flavor and my friend got a Sundae. The consistency of the ice cream is great. So thick and creamy and filled with lots of chunks of deliciousness. Okay my reasoning for the three stars: I was a little disappointed that they did not have the red velvet flavor on the floor. You had to buy a pint of that. I wasn't looking to buy that much ice cream (blame it on my "diet" attempt). Also the tables were disgusting! I have a feeling that since B&J is always busy they forget to have their employees clean the tables. DAMN it was so disgusting. Looked like they had not cleaned it from when they opened that morning. Every single table I tried to sit at was disgusting filled with smeared ice cream that probably dripped off people's spoons or even worse their mouths. The ice cream is great, the location has access to parking but the establishment was very dirty. I feel that being clean is the most important aspect of any business. B&J please clean all your tables!!!!

Sexy staff and great spaghetti
Oh wow, I'm reviewing ANOTHER McDonald's. Joy. This place, like a few others in the area, has had a facelift in the past few years. The interior isn't bad. It's nothing superb either. The food...yeah it's fast and typical but nothing special and certainly a pass with Al's French Frys just a short walk away. Drive Thru? Nope. Outdoor walk-up window. (??) So they couldn't support the capacity of a drive-thru here or they needed a permit? Not sure I get this walk up window thing. Never used it. The help is kind of helpful here. Last time I came in here the girl at the counter took my order and then followed up with a question to the manager if it was "10 o'clock yet?" (it was like 7pm). Clearly not thrilled with her job and her total lack of enthusiasm over my patronage showed. The manager was helpful though in making sure everything ended up in my to-go bag and offered a drink carrier as I needed to get 3 fountain drinks here. The self-serve fountain area is kind of a mini-disaster here although everything worked. I actually wrote this much about McDonald's? I need my Yelp head examined.
Luckily, there are no other places open in South Burlington after 5 on a weekday so McDonald's it is. It was very trippy to drive around the building and see a window, but not be able to order from it. You see, S. Burlington has zoning laws that prohibit fast food mofos from taking over and making their beautiful green people into fat green blobs of shize. So, instead of a drive-thru, they have a walk/bike-thru. The fact that they have a 24hr fri/sat service tells you a little bit about the neighborhood. It's dead quiet. The inside is even nicer, there were lots of teenagers just hanging out by the fireplace watching sports on the plasma and doing homework! I however, came for the free wifi and hot apple pie mashed into my softserve in a cup...mmmmm. The server girl was about to give the people ahead of me the last of the fries under the lamp, but told them that she'd fry them up a fresh batch if they waited. Who does that? I've been served so many cold, soggy, or undercooked fried in my life it's ridiculous. The fact that the website puts the managers, name number, and email form down shows that they're trying to take customer service seriously. I'm very impressed with the changes some McDonalds franchises are making these days. Almost makes me want to come back.

Hana Japanese Restaurant

Reviews:
Hana is the best place for Japanese cuisine in Burlington. Hana offers consistently excellent food and service of the highest quality. The atmosphere is decent--it almost has a cafeteria feel--however, the food and service are so good the atmosphere doesn't matter. The Hibachi and Sushi menu are amazing! The portions are large, the drinks are good, the prices are reasonable, and the staff are friendly and professional. Hana has the best Japanese food in the Burlington.
Very good. I was not expecting much, no one was here but me. The spring rolls were very tasty and light. I got the angry bird roll. Was not like any other place I have been. Good job, Hana. I will return. Four stars because the bathroom hand dryer fan is so loud it drowns out the dining room.
Had the pleasure of dining here with a group of Yelpers and it was a blast! From the very beginning (my calling them at 11:00am on the day of) to taking care of bills at the end of the evening, it was a friendly and tasty experience. The woman who took my reservation was extremely friendly and helpful. The restaurant was unbelievably accommodating, they gave us extra space and even (much to my surprise) agreed to split up the bills amongst the 6 or 7 different parties. For food I would recommend the crab rangoons and the spicy rolls (by far my favorite of all the things we had that night). My only suggestion here would be to have more 'party size offerings' since what we did was order a lot of single appetizers to share. The customer service was the highlight of the dining experience-- and I'm excited to go back to try out some of their other kitchen items since mostly what I sampled was sushi.

Dinner was fantastic! We were looking for a nice dinner and not a chain and got really lucky. it was a very romantic setting and the scallops melted in my mouth, cooked perfectly, I highly recommend this place. Can't wait for dessert.
I would call the Wooden Spoon a hidden treasure. I know the restaurant has been around for several years but I had never felt the need to explore it. There are many restaurants around here, new ones, old ones , most of them good ones, we tend to go to our favorites. However if a restaurants puts themselves out and has a coupon through Locovore I have to try it. That is how we ended at the Wooden Spoon tonight. The food is excellent, I had the pan roasted pork chop, a piece of boneless pork done to perfection, served over a bed of grilled corn, and corn size pieces of zucchini in a delicious sauce. Finished with a balsamic reduction. My husband had the pasta dish, ear shaped pasta, with shrimp and sausage again in a delicious sauce (not tomato). Do not miss desert! We shared a piece of a close relative of Tiramisu, minus the whipped cream. Take my word for it, it was excellent . A high wedge of chocolate mousse with a lady's finger crust, the lady's fingers natural, barely sweet not soaked in anything. I would love to give the Wooden Spoon 5 stars, but I have to take a star away because of extreme noise, unfortunately we were sitting near a party of 12 celebrating something who spoke all at once and consequently shouted above each other.
We went on Valentine's Day. We had a reservation but weren't informed about the prix fixe menu. So that was disappointing. The service was efficient but curt. We started with the baby back ribs and beet salad as an appetizer. Ribs were flavorful but dry. Beet salad was excellent. For entrees Filet mignon was cooked perfectly with a delicious bernaise sauce. The sauce in the roasted Swordfish dish was delicious but the fish was dry and served cool. Desserts included chocolate cheesecake and white chocolate mousse with strawberries. No coffee was offered until the desserts were on the table for a bit. And the check was placed with the dessert. A little rushed. Overall, we were left full but feeling ambiguous about the entire experience.

Super fast! Tuesday night 7:30, 10 min for takeout order! General Tso Chicken Dinner, comes with pork fried rice and Egg Roll $7.98 after tax. Definitely will be coming back!
Food is okay, I should have been more careful to ask about chicken stock in pork soup; would have been nice to know that to avoid allergy. Also, not the quietest place to eat-in. I only do take out because of the shouting between kitchen staff / order takers. Not 'mad'; they appear to only know how to communicate via shouting
If you hanker for greasy-spoon American-style Chinese food, this hits the spot. It's crave a bowl snack and I will definitely hit it up next time I'm nursing a hangover. However, it's not very complex or subtle food - it's plain and simple and greasy. The lemon chicken was just pieces of chicken with a fried branding and a sweet and sour lemon dipping sauce. Nothing else. Very good in a junk food way but not very complex. Very mild and plain for all palates. Lo mein is as you'd expect, greasy noodles and tasty veggies. Egg rolls are crispy, big and tasty with a sweet dipping sauce. If you're looking for Asian haute cuisine, this is not it. But if you want a diner style Americanized simple salty-greasy-sweet hit of Chinese food, this is on the mark.

Usually a nice stop in anytime I've been in. Ordering traveler size coffee can be a pain, order ahead of time.
This is officially my new favorite study spot. It's a summer weekend and there weren't a lot of people. I was one of the only ones doing work there. The place is nicely air conditioned on the inside with nice tables (some with umbrellas) outside! The music isn't too loud or crazy and very conducive to studying. I haven't tried anything on the menu, but I like that there is plenty of space, free wifi, and very friendly waitstaff. Even though I didn't order anything, they will treated me very well. They were very friendly and had great conversations with other customers. I'm definitely coming back to do work. This place is much quieter and nicer than the Barnes and Nobles cafe. Plus there is unlimited caffeine and delicious looking desserts whenever you need them :).
Chain aside, I get treated as if this is an independently run coffee shop. The staff always has a smile--even during crunch time--And while I only go there 2-3 times a week, I always appreciate them knowing my name, or at least recognizing me and my usual order. Coffee is excellent of course...also a fan of the classic breakfast sandwiches or mini vanilla bean scones for an afternoon treat!

I became quite a Burlington bagel addict during my senior year at UVM...basically went every weekend at least once. I mean whats better than a breakfast sandwich to cure that hangover. :-) I was definitely not the only one because there was usually a line going out the door...Don't worry, it goes by quickly... They have a wide variety of bagels from spinach/herb, cranberry granola, pumpermickle, sunflower, salt, and a number of others....My favorite is spinach/herb...so good! It has a great flavor to it...The everything bagel is good too, topped with tons of garlic, poppy seed, onion, and salt. I wasn't a huge fan of the blueberry, it lacked some flavor but maybe I got a bad one? The bagels are soft even after they are toasted....I'm not a cream cheese person but they have a wide variety as well. Strawberry, scallion, spicy mexican, and even tofutti... I usually get the breakfast sandwich with egg/cheese/sausage..They cook everything right in front of you so it comes out piping hot. The eggs are real, no fake stuff and you can choose from a 4-5 kinds of cheese. They are a great value for what you pay...$4 They have a couple of other sandwich combos too for those looking for a deli meat style sandwich...If you aren't in the mood for a bagel, dont worry they have wraps, salads, and pasta salads...They also have some pastries (muffins, fruit bars) and serve coffee...Definitely check it out!
The food and bagels are decent and a nice selection of bagels but the dining area needs a lot of work and the place is pretty dirty...made me wonder what the kitchen looked like...ewwww!
Bagels bagels bagels! I used to frequent this place a couple years back and had the opportunity to stop in again yesterday morning. The bagel inventory was well stocked (nothing worse the selecting your flavor to find they are out), and the line was surprisingly short. In times past (the lunch hour) it's been a bit of a mad house trying to get a bagel sandwich or place an order. They always have 3 or 4 staff running the bagel counter though and the service can be a little hit or miss. I've had stellar service and other times not so much. The bagels themselves are pretty big -- and if you order with cream cheese or any sandwich fillings, they definitely load it up (which sometimes results in difficulty eating which depending on who's eating can be a good or bad thing). They also have a small section for day old items at a significantly reduced price, a cooler with salads, pastas, fruits, yogurt, chips, drinks and pastries-- anything to complete your meal. If you haven't had the chance to try them out, grab a bagel, one of their homemade pastries, and a drink and and enjoy in their open cafe space! My only suggestion: why isn't there a Montreal spice flavor??

There was no dish excellently prepared. Never got that far, though I braved the snarky receptionist's attempt to not be helpful and waited half an hour for seating to open. That I was on wheels was obvious, as was the fact that the main part of the restaurant is not accessible to wheels. Nonetheless, Madame Snark allowed me to find out on my own after the half hour wait. The hostess who tried to seat me in another area entirely without any hope of access to the salad bar defensively asserted that the place is "grandfathered" in regard to the ADA. Hmmmm seemed newer than 1990. But evidently, they are also grandfathered from common courtesy. Bit of a curmudgeon is old granddad.
We heard the salad bar was the best in Burlington and we found it to be pretty good. Fresh ingredients were key. The salad bar had a local cheese selection that we enjoyed. It's included with an entree so we chose to go for the smaller servings as we are not big eaters and large portions are not usually finished. The smaller portions are an option on the menu so watch out for that, very few restaurants offer this option. My 6oz ( or was it 8oz?) sirloin steak was cooked to perfection and my wife enjoyed her fish. The wait staff were friendly and provided good suggestions, one of which was the artisan cheese plate for I believe $14.99. 3 artisan cheeses, grapes, a cranberry rhubarb, olives and crackers, well worth it. We enjoyed the wonderful variety of food we had between the salad bar, bread, main entrees and cheese plate. I will try to provide a photo of this cheese plate if I can. Would recommend this restaurant to people staying at the BW Windjammer and to people who want a change from the downtown Burlington restaurants.
We went here for my friend's rehearsal dinner the night before her wedding. There were no rooms available at the time, so they shoved us all into a corner in different booths. Not their fault at all, but it was a little cramped. Drinks were okay - my vodka tonic was HUGE. My friend ordered a sidecar, which they didn't prepare correctly. Her husband ordered a neat whiskey and that had no idea what that meant. Minus points for you. Salad boat is just that - lots of options, which was nice. They had some cabot cheese and crackers, which was a good addition to what they already had. I ordered the aged NY Strip and it was good. They do have a HUGE menu of so many different things - lots of different cuts of beef. My steak was a little bit on the fatty side, but cooked exactly how I ordered it. This wouldn't have been my first choice of a place to eat, but it was pretty good for what it was.
