We were excited to find a taco shop in the middle of our drive. I really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately I was disappointed. Overpriced and not very good food. And obviously the menu was not construced by someone familiar with real mexican food.

I love tacos. Tex Mex, authentic, homemade, soft, crispy and even Taco Bell and it's vaguely taco-like food items. Burritos too, those pillowy, chewy tubes of meat, cheese and rice agree with me better than anything on this planet. So in my recent travels, stumbling across a Taco's Tacos seemed to be fate. As I entered the small place the siren smell (like a song heard by my nose) of taco seasoning made my mouth water. I was with my girlfriend, a deeper aficionado of tacos than even I and even she seemed entranced. It had all the counterculture aesthetic of some of our favorite snack food eateries including a soda machine so covered by stickers one wondered if there were any metal casing or if they'd simply gone the proper punk route and done a DIY project. The menu was basic. Tacos, burritos, nachos with beef, chicken or veggies. We each ordered two tacos, one beef one chicken, and waited. The dining room had the old vinyl tablecloths of my grandmother's house, complete with typical print more suited to Italian dining on them. I accepted it's kitschy nature and almost liked it in it's haphazard style. Our tacos arrived after a short wait, crunchy shells, meat, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. Nothing impressive or extraordinary, just a taco, pure and simple. They even had that dynamite smell. One bite though and the mirage created by the noses was broken. What we smelled had not reached our shells. What did make it was dry, unseasoned meats. Our hearts sank. Such a cool little place in this town, how could they fail at cooking two things they actually cook there, beef and chicken. We dealt by drowning it in hot sauce, Cholula which is our favorite, and left saddened for the road. So what was learned? Smell can be deceiving, tacos can be a let down on rare occasions and if you happen to be near this place only stop if your need for a taco can be buoyed by your love for stickers.

I make a point of never slapping a local place with the dreaded one star review. Only airlines and truly awful service seem worthy of that brand However, this place needs a makeover fast in every possible way. So take this is constructive criticism: a. Train your staff. They should know how to handle a cash register b. Your food...its tragic. That chicken is some of the worst I have ever had. Cook it fresh, serve it fresh and you will have much happy customers c. Eliminate all the canned stuff as well. How do I know? One of your employees was dumping some canned "cheese" into the warmer for nachos After reading your reviews, I am not exactly the proverbial canary in the coalmine....I would move quickly, because it is only a matter of time before people realize its better being hungry then eating this crap

Dependable vegan-friendly fare. We stop at Tacos Tacos after kayaking a lot. I order the Taco Salad (hold the flesh, cheese & sour cream), and add refried beans & Spanish rice, and a side of guacamole. The homemade salsa is tasty.

I drove by this place a few times before finally taking the plunge. I really REALLY wish I had just kept driving. I appreciate everything from fine dining to quirky fast food, but this place really doesn't even make the fast food cut. They have about 10 ingredients total in the whole place, and they all come from a can, a bag, or a freezer. It looks to me like they got a bulk discount on some "Ortega Family Taco Dinner Kits" and figured they would start a business. There is nothing authentic about this place. The service there was also just pathetic. We were the only ones in the place with two guys behind the counter and we stood there for 5 minutes until they even acknowledged we were there. Then, when I ordered, they both just floundered around for a few minutes. I asked for no cheese, and when I got the tacos home, one of them had cheese on it. Luckily for me, I didn't even make it through the second taco before I was just disgusted with the food and couldn't have eaten it anyway. My friend got a burrito and a root beer. The root beer had no syrup in it, and he was in the bathroom half the night after the burrito (no joke). My favorite part was the tagline for their beans - "Our hearty recipe!" What, is there a special way you plop the beans out of the can into the warmer? Nothing had any seasoning in it whatsoever, and their "taco sauce" is just packets of industrial crap. Way overpriced, and just shockingly bad. Do not waste your time there. People keep comparing it to Chipotle. Not even in the same league!!!! Food starts with ingredients guys, and you won't win any awards with a can opener and a heat lamp. Point is, if you are looking for somewhere to eat, even for crappy side of the road fast food, just go next door to the chicken place, or down the street to Java Babas. It is offensive that places like this are allowed to serve what they constitute as food. HUGE FAIL.

It's a really good burrito Taco's Tacos is a favorite of this foodie. While it is not hard core Mexican it is a great place for a quick lunch. The pack a soft flour tortilla with what ever you want and it is delicious! Our fam has been hitting TTs for years and we consider it a regular spot when we are skiing or hiking for the day. Don't go thinking this is the be all end all culinary hot spot. Do go if you are in jeans and you just want a really good burrito.

    (5)
  • Parker R.

They should close. Cheap, lunch line quality food. Go elsewhere.

    (1)
  • Joe F.

Good burritos. Service can be a bit better. Got my order wrong once, then right the next time. Enjoyed it though. I would usually spend between 10-15 there, with a drink.

Ya know what sucks. This place's food and prices. It's too bad, too, because Ludlow has some good local places around Okemo Mountain to hit up on the way to and from a good snowboarding trip. This place's food is pretty average (I'm sure they rely on hunger and tiredness and convenience more than anything) and the prices are kinda high even though it's all psychologically priced and $2.63 or whatever the hell it is. Canned Nacho Cheese like school lunch nachos, bland, dry chicken, they "make everything to order" meaning, they take all the ingredients out of the warmers and throw your order together in 20 seconds like taco bell. Lame. I wanted to give it higher, but I've experienced much better.

    (2)
  • E P.

If I could give it a lower rating I would. Just horrible. Really. I think that sums it up; the worst Mexican I have ever tried, period.

    (1)
  • Adam F.

Worst burrito ever. It was incredibly bland and very expensive. $7 for a burrito and then they charge extra for rice and extra for beans. For that price they could afford to add some seasoning to the meat.

  • Joe D.

Tacos Tacos? Yeah, I know it. I' ve been making special trips to vermont for about a decade and a half just to come here. And, we have a standing order to bring back burritos for the friends that couldn't make it. Some of the most famous chefs eat their "favorite" burgers by the sack full at fast food places. Why, because it hits the spot and brings back the nostalgia. Despite, some of the other posts within, the food here is made fresh daily and they are steaming tortillas - not heating stuff up in ovens. Yes, the nacho cheese is canned. and I have yet to find a nice hunk or wheel of nacho cheese at my local artisan cheese shop. They aren't melting Cabot over the tortillas just because they are in Vermont - and that's just awesome. Who suggested shredding chicken and frying tacos meat to order for the masses? You'll miss the point of this place completely. This IS a now frills taco stand that also provides some indoor seating, AC, and a bathroom. Now, you gotta try the chicken nachos. Or the everything nachos. Or any burrito... I actually only order a taco at T2 on rare occasions. You can expect foil wrapped/lined deliciousness in cardboard trays on your way to a warm tummy. If you are looking to travel ask for the salsa to be well drained and add the rice. Lay flat and rotate half way to your destination. :)

  • Victoria W.

The reviewer with the rant is right on the mark. We were served rotten guacamole and the salsa was tomato sauce from a can. A quick google search would yield a better salsa recipe. I've never asked for my money back but had to here. Nice girl behind the counter please look for another summer job.

5 Texans rate this dive as Disappointing and definitely NOT Mexican. Do 't be fooled by the high prices, you are certain to receive low quality food and service of questionable character with a high potential for the "secret sauce." Steer clear and try ANY of the other choices in town. They cannot be any worse. Or if you just have to have nachos, grab a can of cheez whiz and a bag of tostitos and you can easily replicate the Tacos Tacos recipe.

    (1)
  • Marty L.

Not that good - and overpriced. The shredded chicken has no real taste. The nachos are the worst - you are really better off making one yourself at home with Kraft or Velveta cheese. The Salad with chicken was close to $8 and this had no taste. I can get better chopped salad in NYC for that much. It was boiled tasting shredded chicken with iceberg lettuce and taco cheese and onions and some black olive slivers from a can. Chicken burrito was just as bland and no cilantro, no garlic flavor, no Mexican taste. Our kids would not eat any of it.

  • Lisa L.

Bad food, not overly friendly people to make up for it. I'd skip it.

    (2)
  • Edward A.

I dont know where to start... Two ladies behind the counter couldnt even fake interest or a smile to greet us. When asked a question, told us to look at the board description, which wasnt clear. Food was worse than taco bell... Not joking. 0 seasoning, totally uninspired, obviously whoever cooked it lacks any sort of passion towards mexican food or food in general.... Who opens a mexican place that has no idea how to cook...? Google some recipes and at least try... I dont write a lot of reviews but the overall poor experience inspired me to warn others. You can buy better seasoned beans or meat at shaws across the street and make your own with spice packets.... Sad because good location and town.

    (1)
  • Jim O.

Ate here 5/6 years ago and it was awesome. Today horrible. No fresh ingredients. No Mexican spicing at all. very bland. Taco salad was iceberg lettuce in a paper boat with some stuff & seemingly processed chicken. Ortega taco shell split in half on top. Chips & salsa seemed to be discount variety (maybe from Shaw across the street.). Burrito with chicken very bland and no rice or beans. You'll get more for less at Taco Bell. I don't mind music while I'm eating, but gal working had her style playing pretty loud. We could hardly hold a conversation.

    (1)
  • Mandie V.

I had a good Tacos Tacos experience! Locals told us not to get tacos, get burritos instead. So burritos we had! Softest tortillas, like, ever. I thought the burrito was fairly good, no better or worse than Moe's or a chain....the lemonade was really on point! The woman working was friendly and the music was Lorde. No complaints here, if be happy to go back!

  • Jonathan D.

Tasty, fresh mexican food made fast. nuff said

    (4)
  • Andrew F.

I could not agree more. The only appealing thing about this place is the fact that the restroom is labeled as "El Bathroom." $8 for 2 bites. Although I think I should have known better given it is a mexican restaurant in rural VT.

    (1)
  • Matt G.

Yo, first off, let me start by saying that the logo for this place has a bandito pointing a fuckin gun at you. Tight. But what you don't know, is that this bad boy's pistol is filled with mothafuckin F L A V O R. I overheard someone talk about her nachos, and let me quote her, "they were crunchy", which is exactly how nachos should be. My burrito did two things; tasted like a burrito, and made me not hungry. Another plus. And they have a sign in their parking lot telling you not to be a bad person and leave your dog in the car. Cool. The only downsides to this place is that they don't take cards, and that they serve Pepsi products. But, cash is King, and soda is fuckin bad for you anyways. This place is da bomb. I bought a sticker.

    (5)
  • Brandi P.

Got the Tacos... guess I should have listened to the locals. I can say that it's been years since I've eaten at Taco Bell and that their quality of food is much worse than Taco's Taco's, however I just can't give this establishment that MUCH credit. It's very mediocre food but its sold at a very mediocre price - so I guess it goes hand in hand.

    (2)
  • Matt P.

Mediocre at best, basically a local Taco Bell :( It was extremely hot and uncomfortable when we went so that didn't help. I didn't feel too well the following morning either. All that said, I cannot recommend this place, especially when there are other excellent local options around!

    (1)
  • Nonya B.

Yuck. I think they just pour tostitos cheese over chips and add a few things and call it nachos. No grill so no quesodillas. Place seemed dirty. Needs a face lift. I won't be going back.

    (1)
  • Merry D.

Unfortunately, this really was the pits. The lady working wasn't unfriendly, but the food was atrocious and way overpriced for what it is. I had read reviews before going and thought, "oh, surely, it's not that bad!" It is. It really is. Sad, bad Mexican food.

    (1)
  • Janelle S.

This place was just okay. We tried a beef and bean burrito and a variety of different tacos. The chicken taco was terrible and tasted like nothing - could have been canned chicken??? The pros were that the food was served really fast and there were available tables to choose from. The prices were also fairly reasonable....still possibly too expensive for the quality of food that was actually being served though.

    (2)
  • Mira S.

Their motto is best tacos outside of Baja. So. Yeah. Not so much. But the pizza place seems to be gone from his little shopping center, and there are limited options for quick food downtown. The tacos are hard-shelled. The chicken isn't super flavorful and it's pretty drippy, but it actually seems reasonable healthy and didn't taste too greasy. Teenaged staff definitely don't give much of a crap, but they helped us immediately and got us what we ordered, so hat was fine. The seating and food are totally frilless. I'd go back, but purely out of necessity.

    (2)
  • Gabriel L.

If you want good Mexican food, don't go here. I created an account to spread awareness about this sad excuse for a restaurant. The quality of the food was bad, I would've rather gone to Taco Bell. It also took about 45 minutes to get two burritos and some tacos. They also only take cash. Seriously? Get a square, it's 2015.

    (1)
  • Stephanie S.

We ordered Nachos and the chicken burrito, one of the reasons I love eating here is for under $30(with drinks and food for 3 people) you will leave So full you cant even move. I swear the burritos are at least 2.5 pounds! They are HUGE! I cant even finish one. They are so big I often have to resort to using a fork and knife. The food always tastes good and is made to order(I love the fact the burritos are steamed). The chicken in my burrito had TONS of flavor and the guacamole is AWESOME! One thing I didnt like was Tacos Tacos is VERY small, with only about seating for 6. So its hard to feel comfortable when its full. The staff are always super nice and we actually eat here often. Even though its small the awesome food makes up for it!

    (4)
  • John P.

Another restaurant with at least average expectations fell a few notches - A very tiny establishment with only 4 tables. They have no grill, so in essence, they have no flavor to grill burritos, tacos, quesidillas. How can anyone be satisfied with a taco or burrito heated by a convection oven? They weren't so busy but the food was bland..it did seem like a lot of it came from cans and definitely was not fresh tasting like most Mexican Restaurants. Menu had a nice variety but again how can you cook with no grill??? Where was it?? Friendly staff though. We were dissapointed, and never went back.

TASTELESS TACOS, BOGUS BURRITOS, AND NASTY NACHOS! Taco Bell? On the Border? Qdoba? After tasting Tacos Tacos I would sooner refer to any of those places as "authentic" or even gourmet." Unfortunately, this is you only option for Mexican for 15-20 miles from Ludlow in any direction. So if your idea of a Mexican culture is Guacamole and a ghetto blaster in the middle of a desert, then tip your sombrero to Tacos Tacos! Nachos? I remember my first taste of Nachos was at a concession stand at Rye Playland Ice Skating Rink. They were round corn chips smothered with spicy nacho cheese and pickled jalapeno rings. Do you question the authenticity of these nachos? Because the Ice Skating Rink nachos were totally better than the sorry excuse that Tacos Tacos served up. Vermont is known for their cheese and they should outlaw any place that says that their corn chips are topped with "real melted nacho cheese." To be fair, there is nothing REAL about nacho cheese unless they mean that it was processed cheese that came out of a can. Yeah, next time show some discretion when restocking your "real cheese" in the warmer. Tacos? What kind of meat do you like in your taco? Beef or Chicken? Bean and Beef or Chicken? How do you like the idea that there is not a grill, range, or oven in what they call a kitchen. They could have made a better kitchen if they had converted a college dorm room tricked out with hot plates, hot water heaters, and electric grills. Maybe they could throw in a Hasbro Easy-Bake oven to ensure that they can make that cheese melt a bit more over your platter. The point is that their meat and chicken tastes like they forgot to add the seasoning kit that came from the Old El Paso taco kit, because nothing had any flavor at all. Spanish Rice? One word. Disgraceful. To call this "Spanish Rice" is not only an insult to Spanish people, but to all people of Hispanic descent. It could best be described as rice pilaf (probably microwaved) with chunks of tomato in there. Tossing in salsa or cheese didn't do it any good. Neither did adding some of their industrial taco sauce. The saying "you can't polish a turd" really seems to capture the complete desecration that they performed on what was once rice. Disgraceful and disgusting. In all we got only about 2 or 3 bites into any of the food that was served to us before deciding that we were better off chucking the whole thing into a trash can. This was our shortest meal that we had during our stay and felt decidedly better off that we did not push our luck by eating another bite. We may have left there hungry and had to find lunch somewhere else, but at least nobody got sick. In the future, if I had to choose between Taco Bell and this Taco Hell, I think the choice is pretty simple.

Was there 5/17/14. We just got lemonade and chicken burritos. They were great. Excellent for a quick lunch.

This awesome little taco shop in the heart of ski town is a breath of fresh air. The staff is wonderful and the food is delicious! I recommend it.

  • Young C.

You can do better in Ludlow. The taco's and burritos are okay, nothing special. I felt like I could have thrown them together in my own kitchen, and my cooking skills are pretty deficient. They were just veggies, meat and cheese tossed and rolled in whichever size wrap you order. Maybe they forgot to season everything that morning, but by reading the other reviews, I doubt it. Also, I think it came to something like $15-20 per person, which is outrageous for what we ordered. In a town full of funky mom & pop restaurants, there's more flavor to be had.

  • Joe R.

Fam of 4 visited 3 days ago. HORRIBLE! Nachos had that cheap yellow-orange cheese that you get at the ballfield. Chips were stale with no other condiments. They really do not understand that you need to use some spices to even begin to be called Mexican. My burrito was tasteless, sloppily put together and could have been made by a 9 yr old. Taco Bell would have been better because at least they try; these guys do not. Complete waste of money. ON THE OTHER HAND... I asked at the grocery store across the street for confirmation of my experience. An employee concurred and said to go to the new place Mojo's down the street near the bike shop. Taco Taco should go take a lesson because they will very soon either change or be run out of town by Mojo's. Excellent meal at Mojo's; high quality ingredients, beer on tap (though they could use more variety here). Our large group of 12 all agreed that this was good food. GO TO MOJO's and forget Taco Taco.

  • Scott M.

Worst "Mexican food" of my life. I will never go here again. I got a burrito, and everything was cold and highly processed, like it came right out of a can. It was like they were trying to make it taste horrible. Disgusting excuse for food. It was truly disgraceful. Don't make the mistake of eating here.

Awesome tacos and burritos.... amazing and fresh.

  • Joy D.

Super casual. If it were a beach-town it'd be a surfer lunch hot-spot. Love it. Cheap$ & good! Agree. With other review that it's not "authentic mexican food" & would add its maybe more of a tex-mex/ burrito-cart style place that you would find in Austin, Tx. A great snowboarder hangout, good people, good food. Close to Okemo/Stratton ski resorts.

  • J F.

    Always good!

  • Sasha D.

To say this place has "bad Mexican" is an insult to bad Mexican places. This place is atrocious and overpriced. Retried beans out of a can, guacamole seems like it came from CostCo, no flavor to anything, plus it's overpriced...eat next door at The Art of the Chicken, which is really good.

    (1)
  • Matthew S.

Go elsewhere. You're hungry after spending the day skiing, and this is the LAST place that you need to deal with. Seriously, there are WAY better places to eat in south-eastern Vermont than this dump. Find 'em! :o)

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
