Located about 30 minutes south of Burlington, Starry Night Cafe is a uniquely intimate setting that you don't expect walking in from the parking lot. Nice little bar and front room, larger back room that is quite inviting and nice and warm in the wintertime. Overall the food was good, if a little salty -- the NY strip steak with Maine crab leg and avocado topping was very tasty even though the other items on the plate had been over-salted. Decent wine list that is positively afforable. Service was good, too. Good is a perfect descrpition. Not great. Probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit again...there's better food for cheaper in Burlington.
What can I say? It's as good as it gets. I've never had a better meal and served so well anywhere in New England. The ingredients are all top quality so there's no real need to 'doctor' things up to try to make second rate meat taste better than it is. I had the beef that I understand is born and raised right in Hinesburg and it was the best piece of meat I've ever had. The vegetables are fresh as can be. The whole experience was really enjoyable. The wait staff and the ambiance perfect. No hurry to get you out the door either. I really believe this little spot is the finest dinning in the Sate, bar none.
I have a lot of very fond memories of this place, and it is by far my favorite restaurant in Vermont. Perfect for a romantic date with somewhat dim lighting and a cozy space. The food is superb, and the steak tartare is a must have. Have previously enjoyed the calamari, a crab special, and the shrimp risotto. The duck is wonderful, chicken is delicious, and I have had a superb steak. The wait staff is always very friendly and informative. This is not the most beautifully written review, but I write it while reflecting upon wonderful memories here. Definitely a must stop while you're in Vermont.
