I have been here a few times for drinks in the outside seating area and that was a really lovely experience. They have a good drink selection and (especially when the weather is nice) the outdoor seating options are great. I went there recently with my family, however, and we had a really bad experience. The outdoor area was full so we were seated inside. There were only two other tables seated inside but our server seemed to be also in charge of the outdoor area and seemed to forget about us. It took over an hour for our food to arrive and it was cold as if it had been sitting out for some time. The server only stopped by 2 times in that period of time and didn't offer any explanation or apology for the delay. I've been a server so I am sympathetic when things are swamped or people have too many tables, but there should at least be regular checking in, acknowledgment of the wait, and prompt delivery of the food when it is ready. The food was fine and I still like the ambiance but it was just a so-so dining experience.

As far as Burlington places go, it isn't too bad. Prices are good and the food is tasty. I've never had a chance to try the back deck area during the summer but I hear its pretty sweet. They have guac for their burgers!

What a great place, this is our default Church Street non brunch stop. I love the location, keeps it from being over the top busy like the other Church St places. Food is always solid, check out the specials as they tend to be more creative then the menu. It is a small place so if it is busy then you may have to wait, and I would keep parties to 4 or less if possible. We love the little New England Pub atmosphere. Also the prices are nice compared to rest of Church St. (hear great things about the summer deck but haven't had the please) Recommended!

I went here for a much-needed lunch with family on Saturday as an alternative to all the fast-food joints around. One of the things I love about Church Street is that there are a million little independent restaurants and cafes with their own character and local flavor. Halvorson's was pretty busy, presumably full of shoppers out on a cloudy but somewhat balmy Saturday afternoon. I went for the cup of clam chowder, followed by a burger and fries. The clam chowder was delicious, though not as creamy as what I prefer, and was gone entirely too fast for my liking. The burger was decent; nothing spectacular, though possibly a bit too greasy, because I definitely couldn't finish it. I've had worse and I've had better. The fries were kind of disappointing. I like my fries salty and "light", like they were just cooked. These sort of looked shriveled and wilty, like they'd been enjoyed by someone else the day before, then taken out of their Styrofoam container and nuked for a few minutes before being put on my plate. One star off for your recycled-looking fries, Halvorson's. The other star? Because I felt like being bitchy and deducting it for having to look at the "unfortunate-looking" girl in the booth across from me essentially pawing her boyfriend under the table. Bunch of savages in this town.

We stopped in at Halvorson's Upstreet Cafe on a wicked cold February day. We were seated very quickly by a friendly member of the staff. The food was pretty good, for the cost. It's not fine dining, but it's pretty good place to stop by on Church St. It's a very homey, comfortable place. It's one of the little restaurants that stands out in my mind when I think of Burlington and Vermont. It's one thing that I know that I can look forward to when I am in town (from Upstate NY)

I have found the vegetarian options to be ultra boring. The service was good but I have just never been at all happy about the food.

I recently organized a networking event at Halvorson's (which I booked only a few days before), and while I didn't partake in the cuisine (too busy drinking), I must say the staff at Halvorson's were some of the most pleasant restaurant staff that I've encountered anywhere in long time. The wait staff were extremely nice and accommodating, the bartender was polite, and they even waived the facility fee for us, as they were grateful for the added business. All in all, the networking event went seamlessly, and the night was a complete success. Thanks, guys!

I ordered panko-crusted pork chops with a mushroom rosemary sauce. This sounded fantastic on the menu. To my surprise there was no panko-crust. These were clearly just plain grilled chops. I didn't feel like putting up a stink about it as they were very busy and it wasn't the fault of our waitress. Additionally, the asparagus was way too mature (thick stalks). The chops didn't seem to be brined and were way overdone. The mashed potatoes were bland, lacking butter and/or cream, and in desperate need of salt. On the plus side, the mushroom rosemary sauce was amazing which made the overdone chops bearable. The service overall was very good. It is also a fantastic location. Just don't have your hopes set to high on the food. I have no doubt that I will return again. Maybe they just had an off night.

Loved this place. It's dog friendly. Wine list offered some unique wines I have only found in CA. Service is leisurely, so sit back and enjoy. The Vermont cheese plate was a perfect medley of flavors. Our lunch was sandwiches that were delicious and so big, we took half home. I wish I lived closer and could be a regular here. You must try the onion rings, yum.

I work nearby so Halvorson's is convenient. Unfortunately, my experiences have been awful lately. Last summer was hit or miss while this summer I find that it's usually a miss. I ordered chili to go today, and was very upset to find when I sat down to eat it that it was cold. Usually the chili can be very runny but at least at a nice hot temperature. Taking my quick lunch elsewhere.

Well, we have eaten here before, so there were no surprises on the food. My husband's steak was done perfectly. My nachos needed more pico de gallo bite, frankly, as they were the most bland nachos I've ever eaten. It would have been better if our server had checked back sooner than 2/3 of the way through the meal as i would have asked for more pico de gallo. Nevertheless, the biggest issue we had, though, was the fly problem....and we were eating inside! Honestly, we had to frequently wave our hands to shoo them away! Seriously? They were everywhere! We should have eaten outside as I think it would have been less of a problem. If they were everywhere in the dining room, they HAD to be in the kitchen as well! Bletch! Really, I have NEVER eaten in a restaurant with a bigger fly problem...NEVER, EVER!! Will definitely have to think hard about returning. (This review was started in the summer and I just realized that I had not posted it, so it may come out as being posted in December, but the meal in question was in June 2013.)

After the Fourth of July fireworks we wandered down to Church Street amidst the mass exodus/mayhem. Many of the bars had lines outside of them and we kept walking, hoping to find a less crowded spot. Halverson's was completely/strangely empty. We went inside and sat at the bar to chat and drink some beers. The bartender, Casey, was really nice and participated in our conversation about local politics for a bit. The beers were good and Casey made recommendations based on our stated preferences (I go for the pale ales). We hung out for an hour or two and it was just entirely relaxed and pleasant.

Went here for a residency interview dinner... Was good. Lots of veggie options. Had tilapia which was good. Banana foster cheesecake was excellent.

I'm surprised earlier reviews did not mention Halvorson's back deck. In the summertime, the deck is the spot. I went to college at UVM and Halvorson's was always a favorite of mine. The Halvorita? Yes, please! Good vibes, good fare, and reasonably priced. Check it out on the northern end of Church St.

I've been here a couple times and found it cute, cheap, and friendly, but the food is a bit lackluster. The menu is a mix of burgers, sandwiches, and wraps along with a few heartier options like steaks. The burgers are pretty good- big, beefy, and filling- but the fries were overdone which made me sad. The veggie wrap was tasty but had a bit to much balsamic dressing. Our service was pretty mediocre this past weekend, but I remember it being better in the past. The dark wood pubby feel, the Blue Moon beers, and the perfect location on Church St. are all very charming, but I wasn't blown away. Maybe if I'd gotten to see some of that jazz I've heard so much about, it would have pushed Halvorson's up to a four star review.

The wings were phenomenal, spicy BBQ sauce yum. However I got the fish and chips and subbed the fries for the veg of the day which was asparagus. The homemade coleslaw looked like it was a chopped onion salad with about an inch of liquid in the bowl it came in. The asparagus was mushy and greasy and the fish itself had a pool of grease in the center. I understand it's fried food but it wasn't seasoned and after 4-5 bites I put my fork down. We have had good experiences but will stick to going for lunch and for drinks and appetizers. Knowing that Halverson's is connected with the new strong steakhouse I'm a little skeptical of heading over there when the basics haven't been mastered at their sister restaurant.

Today was a nice enough day to sit outside and enjoy our meal while watching some kind of show on Church Street. We ordered drinks and food pretty quickly and were served within 20 minutes or so. After we received our lunch the waitress seemed to have forgotten about us. We had to flag down a different waitress to get refills on our drinks and when we were finished eating we waited about 20 minutes for our bill. I decided to go inside to ask for the bill and it took another 10 minutes to find the waitress to print our bill. The food was great. The atmosphere and the other servers were great, but our waitress was mia.

Bad service. Food is just ok. Love the back seating with the porch area though. One time we ate in the windows facing church street and there were ants everywhere....

They were able to accommodate our party of 10 on the day of the marathon which was superb. We sat outside on the patio and got a mish mash of appetizers burgers and sandwiches. The food took a while but the waitress was fairly attentive. The portions were on the generous side- my cajun shrimp salad was enormous! Everyone loved the chicken fingers. The spinach and artichoke dip was an odd consistency- looked more like a soggy crab cake? Very dry with large chunks of artichoke. One member of our party got a steak cooked medium and it was more like well done... but he had run the marathon and was starving so he ate it anyway. Burgers must have been good because everyone who got one cleaned their plate. Four apps and a meal for each of us and with tip it was only $25 a piece. Good deal!

Really great specials, especially in the summer! Solid menu with an amazing line up of local beers on tap. The back patio is amazing for a private event while the front is great for people watching yet staying away from the long waits at the bottom of church street. Our server Erin was very attentive and friendly with an outstanding knowledge of the beers on tap- the hostess seemed organized as well- even on a busy Saturday night we were able to be sat outside in about 5 minutes! Definitely worth the extra 2 minute walk up the street beyond the hustle and bustle of the lower block. We love it here!

The outdoor seating is nice. Food is okay. Service is good. Most recently I tried their Cuban Sandwich--it was okay--but, not even remotely similar to the authentic and delicious original you'd find in Miami or Tampa. Perhaps Halvorson's thought pulled pork on a Cuban Sandwich was a good idea? Either way, it just didn't capture the look or taste of the traditional version.

Nice place, but... slow, food took an hour plus for 3 people. The plates were a good size and nicely put together. The pasta special had one small piece of mushroom and no tomatoes. The waitress was nice and the beer was cold. This is not a place to go if you are in a hurry.

This used to, many years ago, be a fantastic place to go for drinks, dinner and creative delicious SALADS. Unfortunately, that ship has sailed. While I love the back dining area (how could you not?!), the food was dismal and bore no resemblance of it's former self. A couple of people in the party I was with a month ago complained of under-cooked burgers and my salad didn't taste fresh or inspiring... the veggies seemed though they'd been hanging around a few days and the dish was lacking the finesse I recall previously. I was disappointed to see the food take such a nose-dive as I found it so consistently good previously. Such a bummer.

I have to be brutally honest here, I've loved Halverson's from the moment I first stepped foot in the restaurant 4 years ago.... I've had countless perfectly cooked burgers, engaging conversations over mouth water apps and tried every special! I even hosted an event in their space out back in 2013. But I am disappointed to say that their recent update to the menu has me begging for the original. I'm annoyed at the lack of creativity. It's another local staple conforming to the tourist! Come back to us Halverson's please oh please! I came in knowing I could take my sister in law for a meal she'd enjoy. Only to be disappointed. We ordered wings as a starter and requested them extra crispy, they arrived mushy and over dressed. We all ordered burgers at different levels of doneness - only to have them mixed up when put together for our meals. The server was overwhelmed and no where to be seen. I would continue down Church St. before stopping in here for a meal on a Saturday night.

I'd like I state right off the bat that the service was okay, our waiter Macy was polite and incredibly courteous. But... The food was so underwhelming I'm struggling to find the words to describe. We ordered a fish and chips and a "veggie stir fry". The veggie stir fry consisted of peppers, onions, rice and a teriyaki sauce; it cost $17. The fish and chips (simple enough) which came out so over fried that it sounded like I was biting into an apple just trying to get a piece off it, the tail ends had been fried completely through and were curling up as if dropped when frozen. I think it was the fact that we came in as a couple, ordered promptly, 15 minutes another couple came in, they ordered, and got their meal, and we still had to wait another 20 for ours. Being charged $17 for an item that was only peppers, onions and rice is heartbreaking, more so accompanied with such a simple dish like fish and chips that the local Irish pub could of done much better. We sent everything back and left after an hour wait with 2 other tables in the restaurant. I was thankful they comped the meal, even though the manager didn't want to come see us initially. I would go somewhere else on church ST to eat, there's a ton of better options.

Visited Monday evening, Sept 29, 2014 at about 7pm for outside dining. Was seated promptly and ordered a beer. There was no beer or waitress after 30 minutes. Had to go inside rest.. to find one. When waitress finally appeared, she none too friendly. Also the menu is very limited and has fine print in what is not available. Frustrated to the max, we departed and walked south on Church--located another restaurant and was greeted warmly and seated promptly outside. Menu had no limitations and service was excellent--even though the outside dining area was crowded. In sum, don't waste time or $ at Halvorson's. The attitude is one of at the very best of neglect and not caring about the customer at all. Or, for that matter, the restaurant itself. DON'T EAT HERE!

  • Dave H.

The service was friendly and accommodating but was way too busy. They clearly needed more staff. The food was mediocre at best - pulled pork was dry, the nachos were awful and overpriced, the Cobb salad was unimaginative, and the best thing the kitchen cooked was some chicken tenders. The kitchen is incredibly inflexible - somebody in our party asked to have a bun substituted for a tortilla wrap they used elsewhere on the menu and was refused. Worse yet, one of the meals was sent out cold. Now this happens from time to time, so we sent it back, and when it came back out it was still cold. Completely unacceptable. Maybe this place is good for basics and beer, but I can't imagine telling somebody to come here expecting even a decent meal. Stay away.

  • Robert S.

Totally disappointed. Restaurant wasn't even busy and I found myself waiting 25 minutes for a bowl of chili. People sitting behind us also had the same problem. I ditched after waiting way longer than is acceptable. What a joke. Terrible thing is that I have eaten here before, had a good experience and loved the food. After reading other reviews I see that lengthy waits are commonplace. What a bummer. Anyway, find somewhere else to eat on Church Street. Don't waste your time.

In hindsight I wished I had waited in line at Farmhouse. The fact that there were plenty of outdoor and indoor seats on a busy night should have clued us in. Service was slightly underwhelming. The draft beer and wine list were decent. The only thing keeping this from a two star review was the cheese plate. It was huge and reasonable and probably the best we had on vacation. I had the chicken burrito and my husband had the cod. Both were underwhelming. Really, other than the cheese plate the whole experience was. If I could do it again I would come here for drinks and the cheese plate and have dinner somewhere else.

I frequent Burlington often. Especially for the many great restaurants they have here. Halvorson's is definitely one of my favorites i've tried. I have been here twice now, ordering something different each time. The food is GREAT. Really not much more to say, other than GREAT food! You will not be disappointed. The interior is very cool, Oh.. and outdoor seating on Church St which is always nice! Try the burrito!

While on vacation in Burlington, my family and I actually went here twice... Two nights in a row. Highlights? The soooo yummy Maple Manhattan and a great cheese board. I probably could've had that as my meal every night there. The atmosphere is cozy, and I'm sure the outdoor seating (right on Church Street) would be very nice, but it was raining the whole time I was there... wah waaahhh... The two waitresses we had were both very nice and helpful. The other food items I had were good, not great. Though I know my brother very much enjoyed his meal (but I don't remember what he had...) If I lived in Burlington, I'm fairly sure I would stop in Crow Bookshop and grab a great book, then head to Halvorson's to read over a couple manhattans... Yep. That's my ideal life.

Food was barely above airline quality. Couldn't take more than a few bites. How do you screw up a sandwich and salad this badly?

This place was decent. It was much more affordable than some of the other options on Church Street. My boyfriend got the steak frites. He seemed to like his. I had the pasta toss. The pasta was a bit overcooked. The service was a bit slow but not terrible. The cocktail I had was great, however my boyfriend wanted a beer and the draft list was given to us orally which made it impossible for him to decide which beer he wanted. I regret ordering the pasta but I would return to try some other things on their menu. Overall, it is great just to sit out on Church Street in Burlington anywhere during the summer.

Four stars for the very friendly and attentive server. Two stars for my food at lunch. I ordered the veggie wrap. Now a good wrap is tightly packed, and the tortilla secured and tucked in well. This wrap was rather loose and immediately fell apart. In addition, it was overdressed with balsamic, so that's all I tasted. My friends' dishes of veggie burgers and tuna melt were well received however. Cute cozy space on the inside.

I loved Halversons Upstreet Cafe! I went there for a late lunch, and I ordered the standard burger with fries. My fries were cooked to perfection and also perfectly salted. I always love a fry that doesn't need ketchup to be good. The burger was one of the best I've ever had, excellently cooked(medium rare) and the buns were perfectly greasy. I had a great meal at Halversons, and you should too!

We ordered a nacho plate and a Caesar salad, thinking we could eat sooner than later, but no... after a full hour (as we were just getting ready to leave), the food arrived. Unfortunately, our 2nd drinks were charged to us, thus making a return highly unlikely.

Our party of four went in around 8:00p on a Sunday. We learned that in small towns 8 is late. Our hotel recommended the place. We felt the food was decent, not over the top, but good. The house wine was not bad for the price and they give an ample pour. This review would be better if the wait staff would have been the least bit cordial. We felt like the guy just wanted to get out of there. I always wonder how restaurnat owners allow the staff to tear down what they have built.

Here is a quintessential good ol' American restaurant, tucked into the middle of a popular area of Burlington for both tourists and locals alike. Situated at the north end of the Church Street walking area, Halvorson's provides many places for seating, from the dark wood-lined interior, to the brick and flower-covered outdoor garden, to sunny seating on Church Street itself. The menu was nothing particularly special, but seemed to cover all of the popular sandwiches, from plain to elaborate hamburgers and various grilled chicken sandwiches to BLTs and tuna melts. There were basic to fancy salads, and the appitizers included the old standby favorites such as chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, and quesadillas. Service was friendly but extremely uneven. On a Monday at 1 p.m. with barely any other customers, our party of eight had to wait 15 minutes between the first and last person getting their meals. We all ordered pretty basic items such as BLTs and grilled chicken sandwiches, but I hated the fact that I got my BLT and my poor 12 and 14 year old cousins sat there glumly waiting for their sandwiches, which were delivered last. *hmmmm* As for the food itself, I ordered the BLT with avocado on toasted rye bread. It was solidly made and extremely satisfying. I appreciate a BLT that doesn't eject its contents all over my plate as soon as the toothpick is pulled out of it. The fries were delightly greasy and salty as well. Certainly, this is a solid restaurant that can easily please everyone.

I do not live in the area, however I have family that lives nearby. When we go to visit a stop at Halvorson's is always a treat. The hot apple cider is amazing and the view of Church st. great for people watching while you wait for the food to arrive.

My girlfriend and I had a terrible experience on a Saturday night. They were busy but that does not excuse an hour plus wait for our meals (the table next to us waited 1.5 hours for burgers). The disappointment continued when the food finally arrived. My girlfriend's crispy chicken sandwich was nothing more than two chicken fingers with a piece of cheese over them and soggy fries. I got the cornflake chicken which was tasty but an overall disappointing experience. Will not go back again.

Do not order nachos. They put the salsa on the chips before putting in the broiler. Hmmmm let's see, what does common sense tell you will happen when you put a liquid on top of something crunchy/crispy....yup, as most average IQ individuals would deduce, it makes for a pile of soggy chips, GROSS. PLUS it's literally only salsa, cheese & sour cream, unless you request guacamole and/or a meat. We did order chicken but you don't always get what you ask for. Waitresses solution = remove the cost of the chicken addition from the check. WRONG. She should have removed the cost of the nachos from the check. I also requested some shredded lettuce & onion (you know what usually comes on top of nachos) & I received large chunks of lettuce and a whole slice of onion in rings! WTF. I also had to ask if they even had jalapeños. Not mentioned anywhere on the menu but by the waitresses response to my question it was like "well duh". Ugh. Totally average, benign menu & establishment. Not worth the calories.

Coming from NYC, my boyfriend and I set out to find some late night American/pub fare on our first night in Burlington, VT. At the recommendation of our hotel guide book, we headed down to the Church St Marketplace to see what we could find. After reviewing countless restaurants on the strip, we almost splurged and ate at a steakhouse, but thought we'd be a bit more financially responsible and "settle" on the pub next door, Halverson's. The truth is, we did anything but settle. Halverson's, seems like it might be a step down compared with a lot of flashy, more expensive restaurants in the area, but upon first walking in, I was pleasantly surprised to find a very welcoming, almost romantic atmosphere to the restaurant. We started with a few draughts-- the selection is large, with about 15 beers on tap. I had a pint of Magic Hat's Single Chair, and my boyfriend had a pint of a Fiddlehead IPA. Unfortunately, the IPA was too bitter for his taste, but our server, Whitney, went out of her way to make sure we were happy. She brought over a flight of a few beers on tap, and helped my boyfriend settle on something he'd better enjoy. For an appetizer, we started with the Gouda, Artichoke, and Spinach dip. The dip was served with ciabatta bread, and the creamy texture paired with chunks of fresh artichokes, made this hard not to finish. For entrees, my boyfriend had the Bailey's Melt burger with American and Cheddar cheese, and I had the Cornflake Fried Chicken. The burger was undoubtedly the most juicy, most delicious burger either of us had tried to date. The cornflake chicken-- chicken breast pounded thin, breaded in cornflakes, stuffed with sausage, fried and served with maple syrup-- was the perfect combo of sweet and savory. We (somehow) finished with a slice of the carrot cake, as recommended by Whitney, and we were not disappointed. The cake was very moist, and the cream cheese icing was creamy and very sweet. If you find yourself look for some grub on Church St., I highly recommend you give Halverson's a shot. The exceptional service, fantastic food, and unbelievable value (all of that food plus four beers at under $60!) made this one of my all time favorite dining experiences.

Way way up near the top end of Church Street. The meal started off well with some excellent appetizers. The spinach and artichoke dip was the best I ever had. Large pieces of artichoke and great tasting cheese. The Vermont cheese plate had four selections of cheese, two spreads, one blue and one mild. Very good but not fantastic. The entrees were OK. The fish was not day boat fresh and the New York strip was dry and veiny.

This was the first real meal we had after a long day of travel from California. Friendly service, great patio seating, and a wonderful meal. I had the Mexican salad (grilled chicken and black beans with salsa in a big fried tortilla shell, with lettuce and tomatoes and olives and cheese) and it was super satisfying. If we were staying any longer than a week, I'd definitely go back.

the bar was good. love that heady topper. the dinner service was a little lacking. i have a lot of sympathy for food service workers. but maybe she was new. or having a bad day. she clearly needed help. perhaps too many tables. felt bad when i saw another customer chew her out. we all have bad days.

My favorite thing about Halvorson's is the garden area in back. It feels secret and it's a great way to dine outside but away from the bustle of Church St. The food at here is good not great, and I think the best items are the most sort of traditional American but I'd steer clear of the burger and be warned parents the kid's quesadilla is loaded with salsa. Don't come here if you are in a rush - the wait times definitely tend towards the longer side of things. But the staff is very nice and the seating options are appealing and comfortable. If you want a want a cozy spot that has some comfort food on the menu and you are in the mood for a leisurely meal this is a good choice.

My husband and I were just married in Burlington VT at the end of June 2013. We chose Halvorson's as the venue to host our rehearsal dinner. We had been in to the bar multiple times, attracted to the nicely sized craft beer selection and cozy atmosphere, but had never eaten here before. What really sold us was the unique back deck/patio area. It's so nice! Half indoors (if you choose) and half outdoors. Enclosed, private, and very pretty. Everybody that we worked with was great in helping us plan and then carry out the evening. I can honestly say that there was little to no stress involved. Somebody in the wedding party has a gluten intolerance and they even went out of their way to make sure that she wasn't exposed to gluten and was taken care of. Unfortunately, she was unable to make it due to a flight cancellation, but the thought was so sweet! The food was delicious, (entrees consisted of salmon piccata, chicken marsala, and a california toss pasta dish) and the servers were attentive and friendly. We were also allowed to play our own music over their sound system, which worked out perfectly. Overall, we are extremely pleased with our experience and would recommend this as a place to check out if you can!

A nice little joint tucked up along the top of Church St. The staff are quite friendly, professional, and competent, and service is fully satisfactory. The feel and the food are both quite cozy. The old-time wood decor fits the home-cooked style entrees. You'd almost expect to see someone's grandparents there, sitting in rocking chairs listening to the AM radio. The food is decent. Not amazing, but tasty and comforting. I had the burger and enjoyed it. They seem to have a good mix of moderately priced entrees and burgers. They have a full serve bar with excellent wine and beer selections, to include ample local and craft options. They even tote Whistle Pig, Sapling, and other Vermont liquors. Although the bar itself is short, it keeps the scene highly personal. This is a good place to become a regular.

Made the mistake of ordering their idea of Chicken Marsala. Supposedly the Marsala wine was reduced in a cream sauce, definitely not the Marsala I know. Was more like a gravy and I was served very little at that. Had to ask for some more on the side. Waiter was nice, food sucked.

Not the best burgers in Burlington, but their menu is broad and you can usually find something to please everyone. The last time I was there I had the teriyaki burger (grilled pineapple and sautéed onions with teriyaki sauce on top), which is delicious. Their spinach artichoke dip is also very good, but it's enough to be an entrée itself. My friend had the veggie burger, which I was not really impressed by. It's a frozen patty, so they have work to do on that front. Decent selection of beers. It's a good place to find something that satisfies everyone. I will say that they are very accommodating to large parties atthe last minute. I was able to make a reservation for 10 on a Friday night and despite the restaurant being packed, they found room for us. In the summer, it's fun to sit on the patio out back or on Church Street.

I've never had a bad meal at Halvorson's. It's consistent and I really like the old-tavern style of the interior. It's got a little bit of outdoor seating out on Church Street but I recommend new patrons try the indoors or the bar. It's a great spot for socializing or even parties. I'm not sure if they still do live music but that used to be a nice treat at dinner time. The burgers are always perfect and it's got a nice selection of appetizers.

Love this. Wait and bar staff incredibly accommodating. Can't beat build your own margaritas!! Cozy place on Church Street (with outdoor seating, of course), but away from the madness the street can be. Chicken burrito is amazing. All fresh - a little on the "gringo" side but what do you expect in Vermont? It was really tasty!
