Readmore B&B

Reviews:
My wife and I got married here. It was fantastic and we wouldn't change a thing. Dorothy and Stewart made our stay a pleasure right from the beginning. The inn is gorgeous and cozy. We stayed in the Teddy Roosevelt room, which was beautiful and had every amenity you could ever want. The breakfasts were home cooked and to die for. And most importantly, the ceremony was warm and intimate and conducted with both expert precision and a human touch. Wonderful people and a wonderful place to stay. We will absolutely be back.
We chose the Readmore Inn for our elopement wedding based on a Google search and what we saw on their website, and did we ever luck out! It's even prettier in person than it looks on their site - a gorgeous house, beautifully decorated, and with every little detail you could want taken care of. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxing, and there are books everywhere (most for sale; some not). I felt like I'd dropped into a little patch of heaven. We stayed in the Theodore Roosevelt room, which was really pretty and had a full bath with a dressing area and walk-in closet. There was also a fireplace where we burnt Duraflame logs provided by Stu on both nights. So cozy! The two-course breakfasts were out of this world and kept us going until dinner time. Dorothy says she has a cookbook coming out and I will be first in line to buy it! She's an amazing and creative cook with a focus on fresh, local food. Dorothy and Stu create a relaxed and charming atmosphere, just a 5 minute walk from the shops and restaurants of Bellows Falls. Before we finished our weekend, we decided we want to go back for our first anniversary, if not before.
This place is ridiculously nice. The house is gorgeous and quiet. It's really a place you can go to for a few days to veg, read, and relax. The couple who owns the place could not be more delightful. And the breakfast....it's truly and expierience. I'm not exaggerating. Here's what I am talking about.... Morning #1. Course one, Vermont cheese plate with five selections of cheese. 1/2 ounce of Vermont maple liquor. Coffee, juice, water. Course two, savory herb French toast with melted Vermont cheddar and an over easy egg. Oh yeah...and BACON. And home fries. Morning #2. Course one, grilled peaches with ginger cream sauce, juice, coffee, water. Course two, sinfully good omelet stuff with homemade herb Boursin, potatoes, homemade bread, and more BACON BABY! All of the food is locally sourced. You also won't need to eat lunch. Nor will you be able to. Looking forward to next trip up!

River Mist B&B is lovely. The rooms are spacious and decorated wonderfully and the bathrooms are delightful. I love Vermont...so much color and splendor and this is just the place to stay. The owners Michael and Roger are incredible and special. They do a fabulous job of making everyone's stay very pleasant. And, if I could fit the Boston Terrier in my suitcase...well lets say Baxter is pretty special too. Thank you K

Holy hamburger, Batman! Yeah, it's Vermont, and it's grass fed beef, but make no mistake - this is no hippie girlie burger joint. These things are thick, juicy and accompanied with all manner of Herculean fixings, like bacon, chorizo sausage, jalapeños and the like. And kudos for the great sense of humor - the sign outside said "Dinosaurs didn't eat our burgers, and now they're extinct." Well, I for one plan on avoiding the fate of the dinosaurs and will be swinging by whenever I'm on my way home from Okemo.
Stumbled apron this place when we needed a place to stop for lunch on our drive back to nj. The burger combinations were great! Sweet potato fries we good and I highly recommend ordering the maple mayo for dipping. Service was slow and the upstairs dinning area was cold otherwise this would have been a 5 star place.
Crucial update: Shona does BYOB! They have wine glasses & a corkscrew available. I love this place!!

Dari Joy

140 Rockingham St
Bellows Falls, 05101
Reviews:
A blast from the past! The Dari Joy has been an institution in BF for many years. I love the mascot on top of the building which reminds me of a Bob's Big Boy, classic!! The Dari Joy is located close to the Arch Bridge to NH, where I've been working. I can see this place from North Walpole! This seasonal ice cream restaurant offers hard ice cream (around 30 flavors), soft serve ice cream treats, frozen yogurt, shakes, floats, and smoothies. Typical drive-in favorites include burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, chicken, fried seafood baskets, fries, rings, pizza, and cold drinks (Pepsi products). The prices here are very reasonable, all items I saw were under $10 including the Seafood Platter ($8.50), a hamburger ($0.99) and kids meals served with fries and soda was $3.25-$3.95 plus tax. The place is order at the counter inside and at the outside takeout windows. The dining area has booth and counter seating with a jukebox and the restrooms are partially outside via a door in the dining area. On warm days working outside or riding through the area, I can get a flavor burst cone or a cold refreshing coffee shake and I'm a happy worker. The shakes are not too thick which is good for sipping through a straw and a small is only $2.13 with tax. I pay almost double for the same thing on the Seacoast.
As others have written, the Dari Joy has been an institution around these parts for at least half a century. We're guessing they've had ups and downs during that time (we certainly have). But the basics would seem the same: good food, decent prices, and friendly, local vibe. If you like soft ice cream, they do it well. If you'd opt for sandwiches like grilled chicken or hamburgers, they'll go down easily. If you want a meal, try the fried clams or fresh-caught haddock; both are very tasty. The prices are about as cheap as you can find even for small-town VT and NH, and the servers couldn't be more pleasant. You can order inside sitting down or use the outside take-out window. Sometimes the crowd causes things to slow down, but if that's the case, we'd suggest slowing down and enjoying what you've got: a genuine slice of Americana.
A family owned restaurant that has been around for decades! The soft serve is amazing!! Friendly and fast service! Definitely a place to stop by is your passing through!

Terrific addition to dining in the BF-Walpole area. I usually order from the specials menu and everything I've had has been creative, well prepared, and very high quality. Can it get any better? Service is also good. Now I just need to go back for some drinks on the back patio!
Not very good food and a bit pricey. We got a burger and pizza. Both were bland and needed seasoning. The burger was dry and small with a minuscule amount of gorgonzola for an added $2.00. If you want a great burger go to Shona's Grill down the street.
This is one of my local go-to restaurants. Really good food. They always have interesting dishes for specials. I have never been disappointed. Love the pizza! Wait staff is friendly and helpful.

Miss Bellows Falls Diner

90 Rockingham St
Bellows Falls, 05101
Reviews:
I'll be kind and give this a four - while they did forget our coffee for a bit and we had to ask a second time. The food took an average amount of time to be prepared. And the service other than the coffee was ample and attentive. Customers seem to be regulars and were very kind to move our party of three to a booth and trade to sit at the bar. The home fries, bacon and scrambled eggs are Delish! Hot and made fresh, fluffy eggs - crisp bacon & warm well seasoned home fries! Definitely a stop to add to a trip or if you are local!
I've had good food at Miss Bellows Falls diner in the past, which is what led me to eat there last weekend, but my most recent experience was truly awful. I am wondering if ownership has changed hands yet again. The coffee was watery yet burnt and my cup had a lipstick stain on it. I ordered the Cajun Scramble and my SO got the Western Omelette. My "Cajun" scramble was filled with onions and Franks hot sauce and covered with a slice of American cheese. Not at all what I was expecting. The peppers and ham inside the omelette were rubbery and sparse. We each got home fries and toast with our meals. The home fries had a hard to place taste that we decided was sunflower oil that had burned on the grill. The only good thing we ordered was a side of corned beef hash. To top it all off my bill was $24 and I spent the rest of my day at work feeling sick to my stomach. I was very sad that the food was not as I remembered and I will NEVER be returning.
My fiance and I drive over from Walpole on the weekends for breakfast here, and whenever we have friends or family visiting we make it a point to bring them over. I always get the sausage benny with a side of bacon (and the best part is that you can order it crispy or "wiggly/floppy" for soft bacon). When you come here for breakfast, especially on a Sunday, expect a bit of a wait because they only have one small griddle. The atmosphere inside is great though, all original woodwork and floors. I highly recommend it.

Joy Wah Chinese Restaurant

287 Rockingham St
Bellows Falls, 05101
Reviews:
Joy Wah seems to elicit extreme responses from Yelpers. And we find ourselves somewhere in the middle. Of course, finding a Chinese restaurant in Bellows Falls recalls Samuel Johnson's observation about "a dog walking on his hinder legs; it is not done well, but you are surprised to find it done at all." But it is Bellows Falls and it is a decent if unremarkable Chinese restaurant. The food is not too greasy though a bit under-spiced for us, it has generally tasty ingredients, though some sauces are gummy and ... well, not always pleasant tasting. The restaurant has a pleasant if a tad gaudy atmosphere. Prices are very reasonable, servings very large, the servers sometimes friendly, occasionally distant. We are fond of the Hot and Sour Soup, the Tangerine Chicken and Scallops, the Ho Yu Gai Poo (chicken cooked in a thin almost buttery batter) and Bruccoli Chicken. There is a buffet on Sundays, and take out is always available. Joy Wah is hardly be the last word in Chinese cuisine -- we'd definitely suggest sampling one of our favorite area restaurants, Panda North, in Brattleboro if you have the time. It's better in almost every way.
Absolutley outstanding food. I'm a huge fan of Chinese food and usually small towns don't have much variety when it comes to choosing a decent restaurant. Fortunately joy Wah offers very good quality food at a reasonable price. I've had most of the dishes they have to offer and have yet to be disappointed. On top of there delicious entrees and appetizers there service is wonderful. They serve their food promptly and are very friendly and accommodating. If you're looking for good food with large portions and a price that won't break your bank, look no further this is the place for you!
Good Chinese Food, and you wont get that salty taste after meal. The ambiance is classy, and upscale like.

Vermont Pretzel & Cookie Company

This little restaurant was a pleasant little surprise in the middle of Bellows Falls. Set in a former JJ Newberry's dept store. You place your order at the counter and they'll bring it out to you. We had 1/2 sesame chicken sandwiches and cup of soup lunch special. I chose split pea soup and my friend chose tomato cheddar. Everything was delicious. And me fairly quickly. Special included some chips as well as some homemade croutons for the soup. Would we go back? Yes!
I'd say, one of the best places to get some grub in Bellows Falls. When I was a freelance graphic designer, this was a common meeting place for me and my clients to discuss projects. (At the time, there was nowhere else public in BF to do that sort of thing.) My only two gripes really are that 1) they should be open on Saturday, and 2) the ban against being able to plug in your laptop/devices/etc. is a bit lame in this day and age. (Unless they changed that recently.) But--who doesn't love their pretzels!? And, everything else I've ever gotten there has been beyond decent. Finally, as I also mentioned in my review for Springfield's JennyWren Cafe, they sell Boylan Black Cherry soda, which always gets points in my book :)
This was part of our "get off random exit and look for something nice" program. When we found it we were excited. Pretzel sandwich and grilled cheese were OK but place is understaffed. I think there were just 2 women working there. Took a full 40 minutes to be served a soup, pretzel sandwich, and grilled cheese. The soup did not even come out earlier it came out with everything else 40 minutes later. We were not the only ones that it took forever. I know things go at a little slower pace in nice rural areas but 40 minutes for a sandwich is absurd. Someone here said it is a good place for a "quick" lunch I do not think that is true. We were in no hurry either just hungry.
