Visited Sept 4, 2015. Ordered the western omlette... there wasn't alot of veggies but there was alot of bacon. Got the hand made biscuits with gravy. It was tastey and would compare to be a little better than cracker barrel. The pancakes... that was where they shined. You know how much I love novel things. They had pumpkin, lemon and cinnabar pancakes. Skeptical I tried the cinnabon pancakes and they tasted very close to cinnabons. I love novel dishes... and these were defineyly novel pancakes. Yes I know... IHOP did this pancake but somehow these weren't sickingly sweet so I would recommend it. As for price... God I love visiting places out of DC after all that food... my bill didn't break $20. Definetly a spot worth visiting when in town.

Went here for brunch the other day. Service was fantastic, food and drinks came out in a relatively quick manner despite the establishment being very busy. Our waitress was awesome and checked up on us frequently to make sure we had everything we needed. The $5.00 Bloody Marys are great if you like spicy drinks and the mimosas are also pretty good. Did not try the coffee! I had the veggie lover's omelette which was a great size and served with biscuit or toast and home fries or grits. My husband has the sausage omelette which he throughly enjoyed. Only disappointing thing was the homefries. I like home cooked homefries and these were clearly just fried potato cubes like back at my undergrad cafeteria. That is really the only bad thing I can think of when I think of Food Craft. Glad we found an awesome place for brunch though!

I absolutely love this place! Very homey, the food is delicious, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. First time I looked this place up and saw they close at 2pm, I thought to myself that all the good brunch spots close that early. Usually packed and that's not a surprise. The seating can be a little hectic but well worth the wait. Expect to wait a bit at peak lunch time for groups four or more.

Didn't see what the hype was about, my food took a long time to get to me.. This I usually don't mind except I expected a lot more from waiting that long. My pancake was a little crispy and it was the Cinnabun one.. Didn't have much flavor to it, the sausage was really dry and the eggs were okay.. The host wasn't very inviting to me but the waiter was nice. There were a ton of people and lots of tables but I felt the space was a little small. I hear from people the French toast was good not sure if I'm willing to go through that wait again. This place wasn't for me.

We love this place. Food was good. Service was good. Wait wasn't so bad. Ambiance is good. We had a true Sunday brunch: nachos for appetizer (everyone was surprised how good it was, especially the chicken on it), pork chops, grits, eggs, pancakes, omelets, sausages, mimosa, etc. We especially like the sausages. We grow up liking Bob Evans breakfast sausages and these are definitely better. We'll definitely come back if we're in the area again.

This is the best breakfast/lunch eatery on the peninsula. Shorty's is a close second. Food is good, the service is fast and accommodating. I eat here every visit to the area. Just like a NY diner! No kidding

This place provided really outstanding service, a damn fine Bloody Mary, and truly delicious French toast. The order of French toast was quite large, so it was a very good thing my date and I were sharing because there's no way I could've eaten all of that on my own. I got a side of turkey sausage which consisted of 3 patties, very generous portion and so delicious. My man got a side of eggs and bacon, which were also very generous portion wise and also tasty. We had plenty to take to go. I was pretty impressed with how nice everyone was here and how great the food was. They were very busy, we were in on a Sunday for brunch, but we didn't feel like we fell through the cracks or anything as a result. This was a really great experience, I highly recommend!!

Always a wonderful experience at Food Craft. Whether you go at 7am when business is slow, or at prime breakfast "rush hour," service is always fast and friendly, and the pumpkin pancakes are killer!

I will give 1 star because the wait staff was so nice. Eggs were raw..as in clear! Potatoes were still hard.. when I quitely told the manager she advised "we could eat somewhere else "!! She was clearly already annoyed with prior complaints and the place was packed! She was an older white lady.. I can't imagine she was the owner, but possibly? ? I love a good brunch, but this wasn't it! Even Waffle House is better and no one goes off on me!

Food Craft was such an awesome place to grab some brunch! First let's just start with the waitress Gina (She's soooo sweet & attentive!!) It can be a little crowded but when it comes to places that serve great food and have great service I've learned that's to be expected :) I didn't get the chance to try their $5 Mimosa's & Bloody Mary's (darn you weekday! -_- lol) but ill definitely try one the next time I go on the weekend. The menu was pretty big and the table beside mines had just been served this HUGE Thursday special of Meatloaf & Mash (no like serious guys that portion was huge! Lol) but I stuck with breakfast and was not disappointed. Their French Toast was really good and I saw in the menu that they have something called "Scotch Eggs" that's an hard boiled egg inside sausage (yep, sounds heavenly) but I wanted to save some things for my futures visits. Lol. Overall this place gets 5stars from me but when I left and I saw a waitress bringing out glasses of sweet tea to the workers that were working outside on the road, makes me wish I could give way more than 5stars!! That's so rare to see kindness like that and those workers were so thankful!! I love seeing stuff like that :)

Always love coming to this place and enjoying time with family and friends. Food is always good and a lot of daily specials as well. $5.00 Mimosas and Bloody Mary as well.

I love coming to this place when I can. They have amazing French toast and Cinnamon roll pancakes. They service is quick and very nice. If you're going to eat breakfast / lunch in this area, it would be worth the wait to stop at this place!

Great breakfast spot. I need to come back for lunch. One person in my party had the pumpkin pancakes. She loved them so much, she did not share one bite. Our server was overwhelmed and forgot my food. But everyone else loved theirs. The hostess, who appeared to be the owner, was exactly like the "Soup Nazi" on Seinfeld. But the food makes up for everything. It was really crowded on Sunday when we came. Either get there early, or plan on waiting. The line was out the door when we went. The biscuits seem made there, not exceptional, but I think the value of the fresh, hot food, and the portions were decent.

    (4)
  • Shaneka B.

Very good food. They are packed though. The wait wasn't that long. Needed to be a better greeting process at the door and how you sign in. A lot of people just sat at the bar because that's how most restaurants function only to be told they had to get up and sign in. I would definitely recommend it and I will definitely go back!

We just visited this place for the very first time on Sunday. This place is good, portions are average but still enough food to fill your belly. We went for breakfast, I had the pancakes, eggs and sausage. And my honey had the ham eggs and toast. The eggs were not as done as I would like them but the whole experience was fantastic. The waitress was attentive, and we did not get low on drinks including my coffee. Since I am a coffee snob, their coffee was good but nothing to write home about. Pancakes were good, not heavy but not a high rise of fluffiness. Just perfect. We look forward to our next stop there.

  • Molly T.

Pros: kid friendly, they have slings for car seats, all the pancake platters and french toast are great. The French toast is made with French bread. The syrup is heated which I personally think is a must. The home fries are real potatoes. The decor is cute. The size of platters is just right. You probably won't take any home, but it keeps the cost low for the cost of food. Chicken fried steak is crispy and large. The biscuits are smallish but delicious and buttery. Cons: the coffee is so-so. A bit weak for my taste. The gravy for the biscuits has lots is meat but they don't cook out the flour taste so that spoils the taste of the gravy. All in all all decent breakfast place that I probably would frequent if we lived closer.

  • Britany B.

Everything was okay except the hair we found in my husband's eggs!! All we got was "oops! They'll have to be more careful back there". No offer to remove his meal from the bill or anything. The only sorry he received was from me. Horribly disappointing!

    (2)
  • Heather N.

Meh. Steak & eggs were gross. We requested medium, everything came out well done. Service was disappointing. Drinks were not refilled once, though my glass was empty for 15 minutes. Strawberry french toast was pretty good though. The portion was huge!

  • Jennifer G.

I've been to this restaurant a bunch of time and I have never had a bad meal until this morning. 1. The Bloody Mary's we order were watered down and not good at all. Literally only tasted like tomato juice, not even v8. 2. The breading on the green tomato appetizer was falling off and some stuck together and were raw on one side. Same thing for my BLT that had the fried green tomatoes on it. 3. I order pancakes and they were so flat and unfluffy they could have been crêpes. I asked the waited if that was how their pancakes usually came out and he said no. They brought her a new one and it was the same way. Then the waiter basically made a comment about how it was free and basically made me feel like I shouldn't have a problem with a free pancake. Needless to say we won't be back.

Food was great, WiFi is always nice to have, service was great too. place needs to be bigger though to be so crowded, tables are too close together

Went in on Saturday at 11 and it was very busy. We waited about 10 minutes and were seated. I ordered steak and eggs with a biscuit. Our server was really nice but really slow. The food was nothing memorable but it was good. My wife ordered a mimosa that got to the table about 15 minutes later. "We're busy." I was halfway through my steak when the server asked if I wanted my bill. When I was finally done eating, my wife got up and took our daughter outside because I was waiting SO long for a bill. "We're busy." I would come back but I hope the excuses are gone and service is much faster.

  • Rich S.

Wow it's busy on the weekend here! Luckily, they were well staffed. I wasn't too impressed with what I ordered, but all in all it wasn't a bad meal. I arrived slightly before my dining companion and was instructed to write my name on the wait list. They only seat you once the entire party has arrived; I think this is fair, there was another party that was a little pissed when a group was seated ahead of them. Anyways, the wait was minimal. And service was prompt, to the point that I actually felt a bit rushed. We ordered our drinks as soon as we were seated, and our server was back in a minute's time with them and was ready to write down our food orders; normally I'd need more time, but we were both pretty hungry and went ahead and picked something quickly. Our drinks were never empty and our food arrived quickly (our plates were also taken up almost immediately after we were finished). I have mixed feelings about the food. I had the honey ham omelette, which had plenty of cheese and nice thick ham. They really seemed to skimp on the amount of egg though. Despite being advertised as a "3 egg omelette," it seemed more like two eggs to me. I had it with grits that were fine and toast. My friend's steak and egg skillet looked like a much better choice. Nice tender cut of steak and the home fries she ordered were fresh, thick cubes (not the generic bland version I've become accustomed to). The space was a bit small, but still had a fairly modern vibe and was nice and bright. This is definitely the "hopping spot" on a weekend morning in Kiln Creek.

Food craft is delicious. Unique menu, good portions, yummy drinks. I love the breakfast but their fried green tomatoes are also good

Went here Thursday morning. Got the Vegetable Omelet w/grits, toast & coffee. Everything was wonderful especially the coffee, wow it is good. The server was very attentive and sweet and the place was very busy, but she had no troubles keeping my coffee cup full which is a challenge for some. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the vegetable in omelet were a little on the oily side for me, with that being said, the next time I would just order it light on oil and definitely go back the taste was great and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience.

Country fried steak, delicious! Excellent service and awesome food! Everything here is delicious and you always leave filled up! Reasonably priced and big portions. Can sometimes be a little bit of a wait but food is worth it. Haven't had anything bad here!

Real good. Great service. Pork chop and eggs were real tasty as was the biscuit and nonstop coffee. Jo was great server.

This family operating restaurant is a homely-sweet fusion of IHOP and that one neighborhood restaurant every single person on your blocks loves going to. I made 2 trips here on two separate occasions, and there was always a line. And apparently, this is normal. Their food is just a heaping plate of soul warming southern food. Chicken and waffles, scotch eggs, breakfast served in skillets, and much more. I wanted to be healthy for one of my meals, so I ordered a slightly complicated veggie omelette and they were politely accommodating. Big plus in my foodie book! I would definitely come back here if I'm in town.

I am a huge fan of country fried steak. My mom used to make it well and often throughout my childhood. I skipped the white gravy and ate mine with BBQ sauce. Weird, I know. Nowadays, I take every opportunity to get country fried steak when I'm dining out. I never seek it out, but when it's available on a menu, I can't resist. Enter Food Craft. I had my heart set on a big stack of pumpkin pancakes ('tis the season) or a massive Western omelette... Until our friendly waitress mentioned the country fried steak special. Mother of God. A humongous slab of deliciously fried cube steak smothered in white gravy arrived at our table a few minutes later and my day was over. As I lifted my last bite in to my mouth I knew that any shot at watching the early NFL games on this Sunday was doomed. I needed a nap. The country gravy was dynamite. It was creamy and rich, a little sweet, but perfectly savory. Good enough that my daughter kept stealing scoops of it off my plate. Food Craft serves home-made home fries, which is the way it should be, dammit. They were perfectly seasoned with paprika. I would've preferred mine with some grilled onions mixed in, but whatever, very minor issue. My entree also came with 2 scrambled eggs, which by themselves, would've been enough for me to write a nice review and move on. The eggs were cooked that well. As a "side" to my steak, they almost felt like overkill, like one more 4th quarter touchdown in a game that was decided in the first half. Bravo to Food Craft. We showed up around 9:30am on a rainy Sunday and had to wait around 15 minutes for a table. Our server was very friendly and anticipated our needs well, like when she brought out hot sauce with our food and brought refills without asking. God bless you, lady! If I want a GOOD down home breakfast, I usually go to Tommy's in Hampton. Food Craft deserves to be in that discussion from this day forward.

The food is ok. Typical breakfast food. My complaints are as follows: 1. Your entire party has to be there in order to be seated...not usually a problem, but on a busy Sunday morning, when you've been waiting and only one person isn't here because he's parking his car is a bit annoying, but rules are rules... 2. We put our name on the list like we were supposed to...after seeing parties of our same size being seated before us that arrived after we did, we asked questions and was told 'we called your name and no answer'...totally false...we were right outside the door and all four of us would stop and pay attention anytime someone came out and called a name. 3. We asked to sit outside bc it was such a nice day, and I guess bc we were out of sight, our waitress forgot about us...after our food came, we didn't see her again... 4. A bit on the gross side...there was something floating in my water and there was hair, not mine, stuck to the outside of my water glass... I realize I am being super critical, but I just want to be honest about my experience...

The food is good but it's fairly common items. The service is generally good. Nothing really stands out here but if you want stable reliable substance, you can get it here. The most recent visit, it was hot inside the restaurant. Was cooler outside. No one said anything about the a/c being broken. May have only been a 1 time thing

Had breakfast here. The place was less than half full and they seemed to be well staffed. I was Seated right away;however , after being seated, it was 5-10 min and I was not approached by ANY of the waitresses. I finally had to call out to one to be served . The good news is that after they realized the communication mistake ( as was explained to me with an apology), they did a great job on making sure I was taken care of. Food was good and portions of food were just right. Atmosphere was very nice, but I did feel a bit like I was in a Hooters... The girls wore short shorts , tight with low cut tops. Not that I'm complaining.... But some people may be a bit turned off... But not me!!! A sincere apology went a long way to make this a pleasant dining experience.

Best breakfast I've had in a long time! We have been twice for breakfast and the food has been great both times! The service was less than great the first time but super the second time! I highly recommend!

I have eaten multiple lunches at Foodcraft and recently had breakfast for the first time. All my experiences have been positive at Foodcraft. The service is fast, friendly, professional and comes off genuine. They are usually busy, but are still able to keep wait times reasonable. Decor wise nothing really stands out. Colors are plain. I read another review complaining about the seating arrangements. I agree the seats and tables do not seem to have any pattern or flow to where they are. Booths would also be nice, but a pattern to the seating would suffice. There's also a bar to the right as you come in to your right that seems out of place. It seems to serve as overflow seating more than anything. The area would be served better as a counter like a diner would have. Speaking of which, Foodcraft feels like a diner, but ran like a mom & pops place. Especially with the hours being 7-2pm. My lunch meals have been consistently good. I would give an extra nod to their breakfast. The french toast here is legit. They use fresh french bread, cooked well, powdered sugar and cinnamon. I loved it. Also had bacon, eggs and grits which all tasted good too. In summary, good consistent experience when I eat here. Pricing is average. Definitely a great destination breakfast place. Great staff, Good food and definitely worth a try after church or if you just want some great breakfast. Hope this was Yelpful!!

Great food and friendly service! Their French Toast is awesome! My daughter had the Cinnabun pancake while my wife had a veggie omelet. Everything was great. Will be back again to try the Scottish eggs!

My favorite brunch spot! Always great food and great service, no matter how busy they are. And don't be discouraged by the line out the door, the wait is never as long as it looks.

We were in the mood for brunch food but only knew of good places in Norfolk and Richmond. So glad we stumbled upon this place. I already liked the place before we even were sat. I liked it so much that I told everybody that "now the only thing that could ruin this experience is the food". The food was great! Joanne was so nice. Mimosas and bloody Mary's for $5- SOLID FIND. We're excited to introduce this place to our parents. We'll be back as regulars.

Most things are good. After 3 attempts they were not able to prepare an over medium egg. French fries are very greasy. Pancakes are come in several flavors and are a good choice here.

I spotted this place on my recent trip to Kero Sushi, and being a lover of all things breakfast, I was dying to try it out. First the closing time of 2, why in the world would you close so early?! I realize it's a breakfast and brunch spot but staying open until at least 3 or 3:30 sounds more reasonable. When I came in around noon the place was pretty full, but I got a table right next to a window and I was really pleased. The menu looked great and I was excited. That's where the good part ends...literally. My waitress was extra slow, and I was sandwiched in between a four top and a brunch party of ten. Me being by myself seemed to take the lowest priority since my waitress didn't come to get my drink and food order until I pulled out my knitting to pass time. When she got to the table she looked like a disheveled mess; hair all over the place and eyeliner looking like she'd spent the last 5 minutes rubbing her eyes. She took my order like it was a chore and whisked away. My food came out fast, I got the bacon and egg skillet with a biscuit and gravy, but everything was lukewarm or cold. The sausage gravy was clumpy too. I waited for the waitress to come by and ask how everything was or if I needed anything but she never came. I gave up and ate the food while there was any resemblance of warmth left, having to waste my biscuit because I just couldn't eat it with the gross gravy. I pulled out my knitting again, waiting 15 minutes to get my check because my waitress kept catering to the 4 and 10 top the whole time. She didn't even bring it over and ask how everything was, she was telling someone they were out of fish and chips and stretched to slide the check on my table! When she came over to get my card I told her I wasn't happy with my experience and my food, and she said she'd get the manager. Instead she ran my card and came back, telling me she couldn't flag her down because she was "too busy" and her excuse for the poor service was that she just started working there. [eyeroll] I ended up speaking to the hostess, who said she was close enough to being the manager so she could take my complaint. Nothing came of it, of course but whatever. Overall the place is kind of dark and crowded and there's no room with all the tables packed in so don't expect privacy when you're talking. The service I got seemed to be isolated, since the girl across from me with a different waitress had a good meal and attentive service while all of the tables in the new waitress's section had complaints about their food. I'm willing to give this place another chance eventually. Hopefully I won't get their greenest employee next time.

The service was great! I went on a Sunday morning and the service was prompt. Only about a 15 minute wait. The food was amazing!!! I had the French toast platter and we also had the ginger wings---both were awesome. Mimosas and bloody Mary's are $5 and are excellent! I highly recommend this restaurant.

It was ok. Service was GREAT and the food arrived very fast which made me concerned. I had the country ham steak with home fries and scrambled egg with cheese. The eggs were warm as if they were under a heat lamp, so where the ham and potatoes. The bloody mary is wonderful!

I was not at all impressed with Food Craft. My hubby, the kids & I came here before ending our weekend getaway in the Hampton Roads area over the summer. Before getting on the road, we wanted to stop for breakfast; and I found Food Craft on Yelp, of course. I figured why not try a new restaurant rather than your typical Ihop, etc. This restaurant was packed to the max. From the time we began eating until we drove away, we just couldn't figure out what made this place so popular. A 45 minute wait for very mediocre food. I ordered the chicken and waffle. Who could go wrong with that? I love love love chicken wings, but theirs were not to my loving nor liking. Just bland fried chicken. The waffle was okay I suppose. My husband and kids didn't enjoy their breakfast either. I can't quite recall what they had so.... In edition to the long wait and mediocre meal, I also didn't favor the cramped seating arrangement with only wooden chairs and tables (no booths). On a positive note, the waitress had good customer service skills. However, if you're looking for good food & comfort (I don't know about you but I need some room), I don't recommend.

I don't know why this place closes at 2:00. I've been a few times, and they're always packed out until the doors close. More than once, I've considered going and then realized it was after 2:00. They could probably make a lot of revenue by staying open another hour or two on the weekend. The food is really good, although the menu perhaps isn't the most imaginative. It's simple dishes done well. The scotch eggs offered some welcome novelty, and were flush with pleasant flavors and textures. The biscuits are fluffy, and the "fries" (more like potatoes) are well seasoned. The service is good, even when it's busy.

Went for breakfast this morning with my mom. The waitress was pleasant, and the place was packed. She took our drink orders quickly. I got the strawberry French toast with two eggs scrambled w/ cheese and bacon. It was delicious! The strawberries were made into a syrup that was actually served on the side. I'm glad they did that because it was definitely sweet so I didn't use a ton of it. The eggs were okay, as was the bacon. Mom got chicken fried chicken. It was an entire huge breast, and it was great - not at all dried out. Sausage gravy was good and thick how we like it. The home fries were a little on the undercooked side. The toast was regular white bread toast. My mom had asked to have milk with her meal but we never got it. Overall good experience and will return, but maybe a little earlier or on a weekday when they are hopefully less busy.

Being raised on home cooking this is as close as I have found in this area for breakfast. Sausage gravy is on point. Service is great even when it's packed. Speed of food delivery is great even when it's packed. You know a place is good when the owner knows numerous guest by name and you constantly hear "see you next Sunday" We have eaten here twice and we have found our weekend breakfast spot.

Decent breakfast spot in hampton roads. Have specials that change and friendly staff. First two times I went here, I would have given 4+ stars, my last two visits have downgraded it to 3 stars. Not sure if something changed. Hashbrowns have been underdone and not very warm. Food overall has been decent. Definitely recommend going here but there are better spots out there (not necessarily in hampton/yorktown/NN).

I came here for breakfast and the lemon pancakes were outstanding! I'd leave 5 stars if I was just writing about those lemon pancakes. The coffee and bacon were good too, just not amazing, so 4 stars. I'd recommend this place. Also, good service.

Amazing food and amazing prices! I ordered the bacon omelette and it was mostly bacon! I was so impressed with it. My husband ordered an omelette too and he was in love also. We got our breakfast very fast too, considering how busy they were..almost lightning fast!

Went here for breakfast with my wife on a Saturday. The place was packed but the wait wasn't long for two. The food was really good. I had the chocolate chip pancake platter. The pancake was made from scratch, bacon was really crispy, the eggs had no salt on it, so would be good for those mindful of their sodium intake but wan't hard for me to add. The staff was really friendly. Our server was really enthusiastic and very attentive on the refills. We would definitely come back here whenever we're in the area.

I am originally from out west where we have always expected any breakfast place to have a wide variety of omelettes (and always a western omelette on the menu), as well as always a wide variety of real fruit toppings or fillings for any pancake or waffle. FINALLY I found a place with the same caliber if NON-GREASY breakfast foods!!! Great selection/variety! Clean. Beware the wait here can be long. The location (in a strip mall near a K-mart) can be off-putting, but don't judge a book by its cover. The only place in the entire region I have found that competes (and is a step higher) is "Citrus" in Virginia Beach. I am just not willing to drive 45-60 minutes for breakfast most of the time. I have a few friends who are fans of a place in Williamsburg but it is no where near the caliber of this place.

This is a great place for brunch any day of the week! They are always busy but I've never had to wait long for a table or for my food, and the waitresses have always been polite. It has a very homey and comfortable atmosphere! Definitely check it out!

One of my favorite places to go to eat whenever I'm in the Newport News area. Family owned breakfast joint that has delicious food and great service. So far everything that I've tried has been awesome and the portions are very generous. I've tried a bunch of things off of their menu, but usually I stick with the country fried chicken, which is one of my all-time favorite breakfast foods. The gravy is really creamy and full of flavor and the chicken is plump and fried perfectly. I recommend getting it with a biscuit so you can dip it in the gravy. Yum! Another item off their menu that I tried here for the very first time were scotch eggs, which are hard-boiled eggs wrapped in sausage coated in bread crumbs. It comes with a ranch dipping sauce and it's worth trying at least once. It might be wise to avoid peak hours since the line can get ridiculously long (obvs. long lines = great food). I know they have other items other than breakfast, but that's all I've tried so far so I can't comment on anything else. i'm sure it's all good though!

So I went here before when it was another restaurant...I think Home Kitchen or something like that... Anyway, this place is definitely a lot better! Total 360 from the previous breakfast joint. Firstly, the interior is snazzy, modern and clean. Tables are a tight squeeze but somehow manageable to pass through. Service is what I was most happy about. The waitress was this funky cool chick that just made me happy. She was great on reciting the specials and making the recommendations. We got asked for refills from multiple people and such. I think, but not certain one of the owners, a middle aged Asian lady was the front of the house...she was not too friendly despite the rest of her staff. Now for breakfast we had mimosa, which were nice and tart with a hint of sweetness. I ordered the usual sunny side up eggs, grits and home fries. Eggs were cooked on point, no complaints here. The grits were very chunky and lump-close to sandpaper. The home fries were seasoned great but they were cold and I found a few raw ones in the bunch. My sister ordered the veggie omelette which came with home fries and toast. The omelette was good judging from the few bites I had. The toast was soft, not toasted...not butter or anything. She did however bring jam and butter. Overall, I think this place has great potential. When I go again I will definitely try something else like fried green tomatoes but I won't go on the weekends as I've seen it quite full.

Delicious food and comes out quickly. My favorite is the French toast and Scottish eggs. Ask for Cody and tip him fat ;)

The place was crowded for breakfast, food was sub par. Not worth the wait and not worth the price! I could have had just as good if not better food from waffle house and not waited as long. I got a omlett and it was made wrong at first and then they fixed it, eggs were then runny and it was so greasy. I wont be going back.

Wonderful food. My husband got the veggie omelet and a grits and a biscuit. The omelet was good, fresh flavors, but not a lot of flavor otherwise. The grits were fantastic. Plain and simple. I had the pumpkin pancakes and home fries. Both were fantastic. The service was great as well. We will be back!

Crafty!!! Love this breakfast nook! Well, they just don't have breakfast but they sure do serve breakfast all day... and I'm in love! You know you've found a good place when all the elders are flocking to it! Good size place and plenty of seating, if there's a wait, you won't be waiting too long! The chicken breast and eggs were delish!!! That's seriously a perfect combo of protein and protein!!! The chicken was juicy and just right! The French toast is anything but ordinary, very yummy! The bacon, cooked to perfection, the potatoes, forget about it, blew my mind! And the coffee, actually not bad "says the coffee snob". I will definitely be coming back to taste their other crafts!

Come here for breakfast. Do it. The line is worth the wait and moves quickly. Everything we had was fantastic! Scotch Egg, Blueberry Pancakes, Chicken and Waffles, Sausage...all delicious and tastes fresh.

Went for Sunday breakfast. Place was packed but the wait was only about 5 minutes. Within minutes I was completely turned off because the hostess called our names when our table was ready, then said she made a mistake and we had to go back to the entrance and wait. This happened twice. Twice. It's quite simple knowing if a guest's table is ready to be used or not. The restaurant is rather small and intimate and there is a HUGE feeling of being rushed. The waiters 7/10 looked frazzled. The atmosphere is very fast-food. Sit, eat, get up and go. Waiters appeared ready to pounce as soon as you were half way finished eating to shoo you out the door. Three times a waitress knocked into my chair without a word. 4 times another waitress' rear end was aligned with my plate while passing between my table and the one next to it. The place is crammed and the wait staff need to learn etiquette. The hostess was constantly rushing to clear tables, rush guests, and call across the restaurant items she needed. Our waiter was pleasant enough. The only saving grace was the food. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality. Absolutely delicious! I had the French toast platter with scrambled eggs and home fries. Food was A+ quality, service D-. My waiter never refilled our drinks or even asked until we were finished eating completely. The end of my meal was spent rationing the last few drops of chocolate milk along with my family. Overall I would return on a less busy time and day to compare the levels of service. Or perhaps just order take-out. If I were to base this review on service, Foodcraft would have one star. Food deserves 5 stars.

Food Craft is one of my go-to spots for breakfast in Newport News. You can tell by the constant wait on the weekends that something good is going on inside. I can't say I would try to pop in on the weekend with a party of more than 4, just because I imagine the wait would be endless, but for a small group you end up seated in less than 20 minutes. What are you eating? Check the specials board! I was able to get pumpkin pancakes in the spring. As the girl eagerly checking grocery stores and coffee shops for the delicious pumpkin flavor in late August, it was definitely a pleasant surprise. But that's not why I bring people here. The chicken and waffles are delicious!!! I don't know what they put in those waffles, but they're amazing. Cover them in warm syrup with a chicken wing on the side and I'm a happy camper. I was disappointed that on the first nice day of the year the patio was closed - but I'm sure it will be open once the weather gets a little more consistant.

The food is pretty outstanding! The only reason this joint doesn't get the full five stars is because the service is iffy. Depending on the server, you may get helped quickly. Or not. Those I've dined with have really enjoyed the French toast and eggs, I've really liked the crafted chicken salad sandwich. Overall, I'd highly recommend this place :) looking forward to my next dining experience there!

This is the perfect place for a tasty breakfast. Our server, Paul, was great. All my family enjoyed their experience. I was happy to be offered an alternative (fresh sliced tomatoes) with my omelet instead of the home fries or grits that were on the menu.

Very simple menu but, everything we tried was delicious. Loved the potatoes and the service was very good. Expect a wait as the dining room is a little small.

I live in Newport News and did not know they existed. Went there for the first time last week with my daughter and 2 and 4 year old granddaughters. The food was amazing. It was just like your grandmother was in the kitchen. Not many places around where you can get bone in country ham. I know word of mouth is good but a little more advertising is needed.

  • Leah W.

The food is amazing, especially the Cinnabon pancakes, and so is the service. HOWEVER, the hostess (possibly the owner?) treats her employees so terribly, that it truly ruins the experience for us. We should not hear you yelling at your servers, who are literally running around like crazy!

Our experience was really good. It was super busy on a Sunday morning and I was a little worried we would have to wait a long time. We signed in and waited a short 10 minutes before we were seated. Everyone was extremely nice and seemed genuinely happy to be there. We ordered Pecan Pancakes with eggs and turkey bacon and Blueberry Pancakes with eggs over easy and sausage patties. A minor drawback was one of my over easy eggs was not cooked (whites were runny) so next time I probably won't order the eggs. I enjoyed the Pecan pancakes the most and the somewhat spicy sausage patties were delicious. I will definitely be back. Their lunch menu looked too good not to try.

I thought that Food Craft was pretty good. It was until I had already settled into my meal that I realized that this place specializes in something COMPLETELY different than what I ordered. Not being from the area and only in town for the weekend this place was around the mall and had a really good rating on Yelp so I stopped in. I ordered the southern comfort burger that sounded really good on the menu: Fried green tomato, bacon, and a sauce. When I ordered my burger my waiter didn't ask my cook temperature and I immediately got a sinking feeling. My inner Batman looked around and was like "Oh no! What have I done?". I noticed a very "Brunchy" crowd and breakfast plates and realized a lot of people were eating chicken and waffles. When my burger came out I was pleased that it was handmade and not a frozen patty, but slightly disappointed at the time it took to come out. It was ready almost immediately which means it was made earlier in the day and got to hang out in a greasy water hot tub until called up. The burger was slightly dry, and I would have liked more tart green tomato flavor. Then again, I get. I ordered something that probably only children and people who are tired of awesome chicken and waffles order because I was unaware. If I got back I wouldn't get a burger, but I'd definitely go back and try brunch.

Good was awesome especially the French toast. Service was greAt but the mimosas were a little week and they were crazy crowded. Staff was fast and friendly and prices though a little higher than my usual breakfast place were still worth it. I'd recommend giving them a try

Aside from the service, which was very good, this place was a complete disappointment. I ordered the country ham skillet. When it arrived it was grey with an overly gamy taste an enough salt that it felt like I just had just gargled ocean water. When I sent it back, the manager assured me that the piece of ham I received was just fine, it was clearly MY inability to appreciate HER ham. Look, I've grown up in the south and LOVE country ham. I know how a Smithfield ham is supposed to look and taste. This piece was from a ham that was CLEARLY improperly stored or left out too long after being opened. Then I ordered the corn beef hash. This stuff was just nasty! Undercooked and clearly from a can. Oh!...But at least it was served with "country potatoes" that were obviously cooked sometime in the last few hours and kept under a heat lamp until "flash fried" for a quick warm up for my dinning pleasure. I've gnawed on styrofoam with better texture and flavor. Ugh! Should have just gone to Bojangles.

2 stars for my bar experience. I ordered a spicy bloody mary for a solo brunch. It was BY FAR the worst bloody mary in the history of drinking. Maybe the mix they used went off? Maybe they used rum instead of vodka? Whatever it was made it undrinkable. Two sips and I was done. $8 down literally down the drain.

My favorite breakfast spot on the Peninsula! In there at least once a week, the staff now knows my order! Found this place doing a search for an omelette with spinach...they were the only ones that already had it on the menu. Fried Green Tomatoes are yummy, mimosas are even better at $5 for a tall glass. Customer Service has been 100% every time my friends and I go in, love them! Place is small so expect a wait on the weekends, it's worth it.

Delicious Southern Cooking! Went here for brunch with my sweetie. I had the steak omelette and OJ, he had the chicken and waffles with a Bloody Mary. We split an order of fried green tomatoes. Everything tasted like it was made fresh, from the perfectly seasoned ranch dressing to the fresh squeezed OJ. The food was heavy, as expected, but nothing was overly greasy. My date said his Bloody Mary was nicely spiced with just enough kick. We will definitely be returning here soon.

I was really disappointed by the Woman/Owner seating people today. She was extremely short and rude to some customers and when one couple asked to be seated outside; she said she had no tables but I could blatantly see open tables..she was not honest. Listening to her discourteousness normally would turn me away from a restaurant but I had a hungry soccer player. In the future, I will def choose Surf Rider, Marker, Taphouse or Venture as even the food at Food Craft was sub par(bland and mediocre). On-the-other-hand our waitress was EXCELLENT and provided GREAT SERVICE!!

Bring the kids and myself here about once a week. Usually a wait on weekends but worth every minute. Best breakfast in town hands down. I am a big fan of their French Toast! Service is awesome!

I'm a fan of food craft. I usually get a skillet of various breakfast foods which literally comes out in a skillet. Food is cooked to order and well done. Waffles taste great too! Had lunch there the other day....I had chicken florentine and hajj, axing and very well done. It's usually a very plain dish but the flavor wagon was spot on. Friend had the chicken salad sandwich. Really nicely done. It's a good place. Prices are fine. And I'm a repeat customer ... So are my friends.

There was ONE THING that practically ruined my first time at Food Craft this morning: the waitress uniforms! This isn't a roller rink, ladies! T-shirts, booty shorts and knee socks?? It didn't match the atmosphere at all. The food was delicious and the restaurant was beautifully decorated, but those outfits made the whole establishment seem cheap... really cheap. I felt embarrassed! Ironed shirts and pants would go a long way. Please, reconsider having the lovely people that work there dress more professionally!

This place has the best french toast hands down. Its made with thick slices of sourdough bread but is cooked perfectly all the way through. The restaurant is always crowded and the line is out the door. Depending on where you sit, you feel like you are eating family style with the table next to you but it's worth the wait and slightly uncomfortable seating.

Amaaaaaaazing strawberry French toast. Husband raved about the fried okra. Service was great. Only lowered the rating for the small amount of space available to wait for our table. Didn't mind the wait but there was zero room to wait. Food and service made it all worth it

My daughter loves to eat at foodcraft for breakfast so during our recent visit to the area we ate there. The environment is friendly and our server Kaylee was very attentive and on top of everything. My issue was the food. I asked for scrambled eggs and I think I got a chopped up fried egg. I also got the pork chop and home fries. Both were tepid, not hot. My son had the strawberry French toast and those were amazing. My hubby's food was slightly overdone. It wasn't busy so I'm not certain what the issue was. This experience was just okay overall.

My favorite breakfast place around. I've taken friends and family to Food Craft many times because I love it so much. The French toast is wonderful and so are the fried green tomatoes. There usually is a little wait to get a seat on the weekends, but it's worth it!

  • Jack J.

Don't recommend. It's unbelievable there' s up charge for ham instead of bacon for a western omelette. Also the omelette was the skimpiest I've ever seen. I think it was made with just one egg. They also messed up the check by adding a Bloody Mary we did not have. Lousy coffee too. I'll never go back. Don't go here lousy service.

If you go with four people on a Sunday morning, expect a 30 minute wait. There is a reason for that, too. The food is great, and the service is wonderful. I had the chicken and waffles. The fried chicken was seasoned perfectly; it went great with the waffles. I also had a Bloody Mary, which was also seasoned perfectly! This place is well worth the wait at the door.

The food is delicious once you are able to get a seat. Some of the staff is nice, and there are those that have no manners. I had a waitress hit my elbow, made me crack my phone and didn't get an apology. I am never going back again. Tried to speak to someone in charge on the way out but the place was to chaotic to get someones attention.

So, let me be honest. . .I'm not a breakfast girl. With that being said, I actually really enjoyed my breakfast at Food Craft. It was super busy when I got there, which is a good sign, and since I was only a party of 2 I got seated right away. Check plus in my book! Like I said, I'm not a breakfast girl, so what I ordered all came from the "Sides" portion of the menu. I ordered a side of white toast, bacon, and home fries. The toast was, well toast. Nothing spectacular but not bad either! The bacon was basically my perfect bacon. NOT crispy! It was so good. The home fries were my fav. for sure, a definite recommendation! Although I didn't get the traditional eggs, pancakes, etc. I still really liked what I got and would definitely keep going back, as well as recommend Food Craft for breakfast lovers and non breakfast lovers alike!

The food was good and it was served quickly. But management and service was awkward. My friends and I waited by the empty hostess podium for several minutes. When I caught the attention of a waitress to ask if it was a seat yourself deal she was rude and couldn't understand why I asked such a question. We asked to sit outside when the manager finally showed up. There were open tables outside too, but she refused and sat us in a corner. Good food though. I might go back.

This is a spot that my family and I had really liked for some time now. We were meeting there about 2 times a week. Yet, each visit is getting more and more frustrating. The latest visit was today at about 11:40. The waitress took our order and my son as he always does asked for the French fries instead of the home fries (fried potatoes). While waiting on our food the table to our left had to send theirs back because it was cold. The table to our right was complaining about the temperature on their food as well but was eating what they had. Our food came out warm to the touch, not hot, and we ate our meals. The waitress brought our ticket to the table and there as a 1.99 charge that has never been on our ticket before, it said veggie 1.99. I asked our server and explained we have never been charged before and she said they do not allow for any substitutions so they have to charge that fee because he swapped his potato. I once again expressed my concern since I have never been charged before, never seen anything on the menu about substitutions, and was not told that at the time we ordered about the charge for the change. She took my check and card to the computer and asked another server who said the charge stays. I cannot understand why you charge for an extra side when we did not get the first side. We swapped one potato for another potato. I feel that is completely inappropriate. I feel that the service, food quality (canned green beans and corn, bottled dressing), and customer relations are progressively getting worse and we will not be returning because of this.

DH and I were in town for a wedding and had no idea where to eat breakfast. So I brought out my trusty Yelp app and found Food Craft. What a great find! We loved it. The breakfast menu is plentiful and offers the usual suspects as well as a few surprises - such as corned beef hash and fried green tomatoes - much to DH's delight. I had one of the breakfast skillets, which is literally served to you in a skillet. With my two eggs came home-made home fries, 6 pieces of thick cut bacon (not just 2 slices like most places) and your choice of toast or biscuit - all for $6. The restaurant was full but there seemed to be enough of table turnover that we did not have to wait very long. The service was polite, fast and efficient. I will make a point to go back when i am in the area again.

It's my fav little brunch spot. I go often. Often enough that as soon as I am seated a mimosa is brought to me, because they know how I roll. The staff have always been really good. I usually get the fried green tomatoes and the steak and egg breakfast. There is usually a wait, not always, but often. If you're going in a group or party of people, they WILL NOT sit you until your entire group is there, no if's and's or but's. So, be warned, tell your people to have their booties there on time. But the food and service is worth the wait. The mimosa's (yes I mentioned them already, don't judge me) are served in a tall glass and are made strong, perfect!

Having been several times I can say that the food is good but not great. What you would expect if you made it at home. No criticism on the food. It is good. It is the wait staff and management that is not good. Management of the place is awful. They have gone from really good (I was one of the first people to go years ago) but now they get people willing to wait 30 minutes outside to get a table. So, as a consequence, they have stopped trying. I ordered a steak skillet. I got it 45 minutes AFTER we sat (which was about 20 minute wait) and it was COLD. Even the skillet was cold. I asked about it and they said they did not have any skillet so (yes she actually told me this!) they went ahead and cooked it and waited till a skillet was returned to kitchen from another customer (hope they washed it at least). They then just put the cold food in the skillet. I asked the manager to come over and she did not. After waiting and could not even find my waitress for 10 minutes, I say enough and put $ on table and left. On way out, I saw her and told her that I will never come back. Terrible customer service. Not worth it IMO. As aside, if there are any cooks out there or someone wanting to start a business, you COULD EASILY compete with foodcraft. If you have decent people working there and try half as hard as they do and just the basics of food (there is nothing special about this menu at all) you could do VERY well. There is nothing around except IHOP to compete (and this is about 20 minutes away!) or fast food. A good mom and pops (like mom and pops diner on 17) would quickly take away business (who wants to wait 1 hour to eat!) - perhaps then theyll actually have some manners! Look at the reviews the negative ones are ALL about service.

Food is horrible. I was so disappointed. I just moved to the area and was looking for a new brunch spot, foodcraft had good reviews online so I decided to try it. What a mistake! Denny's or IHOP would've been better. Service was ok, eggs were super dry and home fries were just weird. Don't waste your time or money.

Love it!!! This has been our breakfast/brunch place for over a year now (almost every Sunday). I cannot stress enough, if you want all smiles and conversation, please, get a friend! Don't take it personal if they're in work mode, they are just in they're zone making it happen. They are well known and their food is to die for, therefore, it's gonna be packed! But believe me, it's well worth your wait. We always sit at the bar, it's comfortable (usually available faster) and the service is literally the same. Food is consistently delicious, it has never failed us. We love it!

Food Craft has a lot of promise. I waited outside with my wife for about 20 minutes after we signed up on the wait list (I wish somebody was there to sign us up instead of a self serve list). We were seated and our waitress was very kind and had an incredible pacing and timing with our interactions. I wish I could have remembered her name because she was truly very pleasant. I ordered the western omelette with grits and toast. My wife had the French toast platter. Her food was hot and smelled great and seemed to be very enjoyable. She says it was average food and I disagree. I put three stars to go with her generosity. My omelette was cold as if it had been made prior to my ordering. It had a good flavor but come on man, it has to be fresh. I will say that the grits were the best I had in my stay in Virginia. Great texture and not bland. I added cheese and some light hot sauce to my taste. This place is average. I can't go any higher or get on board when I had so much better food in the area.

My husband and I came here with two friends for Sunday brunch, and were pleasantly surprised. On the outside, this restaurant looks very unassuming and quaint, but inside it's warm and cozy. Pros: Attentive service, delicious down-home food, and a pleasant atmosphere. I enjoyed the pumpkin pancakes immensely, they didn't even need syrup! My sausage and home fries were tasty as well. Cons: They have weird hours, and the drinks weren't that great. My mimosa was weak, my husband's bloody mary tasted like it was from a bottle (not home-made), and the coffee was just ok. We liked our meal at Food Craft, and will most likely be back in the future. This is a nice place to go if you need to feed your hangover, haha.

Absolutely delicious! The home fries were the best and so were the biscuits and gravy! The scrambled eggs were a little runny for my taste but honestly everything was so great I can't complain. If we're ever in this area again before 2pm I know where we're eating!!!

The food came out quickly but that is because it is precooked. I ordered a skillet meal and two thirds of the items in that dish were cold or lukewarm. My husband ordered pancakes; they were undercooked and doughy and cold. Definitely will not be going back and will actively not recommend this place.

I have no idea how this place has been reviewed so high, I was hoping for so much but was sorely disappointed. The place is overcrowded, the wait staff is over worked and the hostess and bar tender (who possible are owners or at least managers) were socializing and harassing the staff that from my point of view was running around doing more than their share of work. (Seriously, I saw and heard the hostess yell at my server to move faster, it was unprofessional and rude! And believe me, my server was working too many tables already and almost running) The food was bland, very, very bland. No salt on the fried green tomatoes, I got the tuna melt and it really seemed just like someone opened a package of store bought tuna mix (in the foil packaging) and put it on a piece of french bread that they toasted. Both my husband and I felt it was over sold and not much better than just a diner. Seriously, if I was to get that quality level of food I'd rather go to Pop's Diner on 17 or one of the thousands of Waffles and Pancake houses in the area. They were overprices, costing just over $40 for one appetizer, two sandwiches and a coffee. I will not be back.

I come here for lunch at least once a week! They have daily specials my favorite being Meatloaf Thursdays!! Their meatloaf is amaze-balls!! Their gravy isn't homemade and most of their sides are blah-bland but for the most part They serve decent home style food. Food craft is a welcomed break from the chain and fast food restaurants that are overwhelmingly abundant around the peninsula.

This place is awesome! We went to Food Craft a couple weekends ago. We have gone probably 1/2 a dozen times total. The owner is a great worker she is very fast and seems to know her stuff. She is also very friendly. Our waitress seemed new but she was very good at what she did. She just seemed brisk, we like it that way. Water was always refilled in a timely manner, food was extremely fast. We always get good service here, they have never had a bad waiter or waitress. Prices are good and the food is super great, they don't cook everything in a pound of grease like many of the competitors around N.N.

Best brunch in town. High quality ingredients, great coffee, simple but classy interior, friendly staff. Expect a wait on the weekends.

Great food, crowded but quick service on the weekends! Blueberry French toast was the highlight at our table....make sure you try the biscuits though--so awesome and buttery!! I will DEF visit again soon!

Weekend breakfast it's a must go. Bloody Mary's and mimosas keep the good times rolling from the night before. Food is pretty great also. Smaller place and unless you get there it's usually a bit of a wait. So just chill out. Wait for your table and afterwards you will realize it was Totaly worth it. Great staff also. Must give two thumbs up. Just get there early.

The breakfast menu here offers a very good selection to include skillets, which I especially like. I ordered the skillet with Smithfield ham and it was pretty good. The ham was too salty for my taste but then again, I don't know if Smithfield ham is supposed to be that salty. If you need breakfast in a pinch, this is the place to go.

I had breakfast here after picking up a dog from the emergency vet. I thought the atmosphere was ok and the food I had was so so. The home fries were very greasy and they sat everyone close together even when there was room to spread out. I'm starting to take a star off restaurants that don't offer vegetarian substitutes or gluten free substitutes. It's pretty easy to do and there's no reason not to offer them for your customers.

Amazing breakfast place. The lunch food is pretty amazing also. If you like breakfast food, you cannot go wrong here. Better quality and pricing than IHop. The only other food I've tried is the chicken, which is great. Long-ish waits on weekends because of the popularity, but I make sure to go every few weeks.

On my prior visit I had a disappointing lunch, so I returned to try breakfast. I ordered the sausage omelette with home fries and a biscuit. What I received was not an omelette, some egg mix had been spread on a flat top and cooked, then wrapped around sausage patties and cheese slices. The home fries were not cooked in the centers. The biscuit was old and cold. Why do people like this place.

Belly busting good. Platters are absolute overkill. I tried the wonderful pumpkin pancake platter. I want to try the fried green tomatoes next time.

Has the Country ham and Eggs Skillet, and it actually came in a pan. Home fries were cooked well. Ham was good too. It was good, clean, not much else to say.

Food was just fair. It wasn't the home cooked food I was looking for. Several items came from the can (green beans, corned beef hash, brown gravy, etc). The server was not friendly, acted is if we were putting her out while asking for things (such as drink refills & condiments), took the tip off the table from behind me as I was standing up and gathering my things from the table. She had a very curt attitude to say the least. We weren't impressed.

Wonderful breakfast place. Had their banana pancakes with fried eggs. Yum. Also had a scotch egg. Rare to find them around here. Delicious. I highly recommend you try this place. You won't be disappointed.

Went here for lunch on a Friday. Ordered the fried flounder special. HUGE portion of fish. Fried perfect. Tasted wonderful. Fries were just ok. Corn bread was great. Lunch mates said the Cole slaw was fresh and great tasting. Very good fresh iced tea. I highly recommend this new restaurant. Good down home food.

Great place to have breakfast! The food is cooked to order, portions are huge, and prices are reasonable. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because they are so busy, and the restaurant is so tiny. Be prepared to wait for a table (although it is definitely worth it!). I highly recommend that the owners look into relocating so that more people can enjoy the great food and service!
