Tokyo Japanese Steak House Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

My boyfriend and I had dinner at TJSH Woodbridge a few nights ago. We've been to this location several times in the past and enjoyed a great meal with great service. However, the past couple of times were a bit disappointing in terms of the food, but the service was still good. However, this last time we had dinner was just that - the last time. Our experience was so awful that we will never visit again, and we will never recommend this place to anyone. Our past experiences were good, sitting at the hibachi grill and ordering teppanyaki. However, sitting at the hibachi grill can really destroy your clothes and give you that greasy onion smell for the rest of the day/evening. As a result, my boyfriend and I started sitting on the other side of the restaurant, given you can still order the teppanyaki from the menu, with the difference being they cook the food in the back (i.e., there is no "show" involved). The food "should" be the same (prepared the same and taste the same), but, alas, it is not. Each time, my boyfriend orders teppanyaki when we are sitting on the other side of the restaurant, the meat is overdone, the "fried rice" looks as if someone scooped some dry white rice it out of a rice vat, threw on some soy sauce on it, and added a few chopped vegetables. Same with the noodles and the other vegetables. This last time was no different, so he decided to politely say something to the waiter. The waiter seemed confused, but apologized and took the plate away and promised another meal. I continued eating my yaki soba, which came out just fine. About 10 minutes later, the waiter brought him another plate of food. This plate looked amazing, just the way your food looks when you are sitting at the hibachi brill and they put it on your plate in front of you. Yummy! My boyfriend's faith in TJSH was restored. About 2-3 minutes later, the chef came out of the kitchen, looked over at my boyfriend, and asked if the food was good. My boyfriend said it was great and gave him a "thumbs up." The chef returned to the kitchen. Another two minutes later, the chef came back out and with another employee from the back and watched my boyfriend eat. My boyfriend noticed this and commented something was not right. "Why is the chef staring at me and watching me eat?" he said. Being the optimist, I suggested the chef wanted to make sure the food was good by observing his behavior at the table and watching him eat. My boyfriend kept eating, but kept his eye on the chef and his companion, as they both stared and snickered. My boyfriend grew more anxious. He told me he was suspicious that the chef did something to his food. "Why does he keep staring at me and watching me eat, and then snicker and whisper to his buddy?" he said. Again, I said it probably had nothing to do with him and that he was being paranoid. The chef went back into the kitchen, and a moment later, another small plate of steak was brought out by the waiter. "Complements of the chef," the waiter said. My boyfriend was very suspicious and only took a few bites of the steak. Then he stopped eating all together. I insisted nothing was wrong, and in fact, I was growing irritated at his paranoia. We paid our check and went home. One hour later: My boyfriend had the most extreme diarrhea EVER, and it lasted for several hours. He has had colon surgery in the past and experienced the same kind of diarrhea due to the surgery. This should not happen from a meal, unless the food is really bad or it has been poisoned with a laxative. Given the snickers and staring, I bet it was the latter. I should not have been so quick to suggest he was paranoid. Shame on TJSH for serving bad food to a good, well-tippping, customer. We will NEVER eat here again.

I have gone here a few times with friends who prefer it to Sakura solely based on price. They are just a bit cheaper. However, you get what you pay for and I find it totally worth the trip across the street to Sakura. TJSH isn't terrible, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't compare. The hibachi is just not done as well, less flavor, and smaller portions. The yum yum sauce is super runny. But the biggest difference is in the sushi. The sushi here does not seem as fresh. They like to slice things ahead of time which makes for faster service I'm sure but I prefer my avocados and other things sliced fresh so they aren't brown when I get there. The sushi flavor and size also doesn't compare. Don't get me wrong, this place isn't bad. But when you have the best just across the street, why bother.

Came here late for non-hibachi dinner one night, maybe an hour before they closed. Our waiter was really nice! Maybe because we were 3 asian girls. He recommended the bento box which was a great deal. It comes with a lot of food, miso soup and salad. The food was okay, nothing amazing and I'm not picky.

This place is the banzai bomb! Do the hibachi grill and you won't regret it. The food is phenomenal, cooked to order right in front of you, and a little entertainment thrown in to boot. The chefs are amazing, the dude there last night had been doing it for seven years. The only thing I did for seven years in a row was college. Lots of cool tricks that never get old - even better for kids. I mean, what kid doesn't like fire? My wife is a sushi fanatic and says their is awesome.

Not as good last time. My salad was wet and watery, and the steak was gristlelicious. Darn. Inconsistent. What can I expect in Woodbridge?

Wow - this place has a bad rap on yelp apparently. I went here last weekend after a busy day of shopping and movies and it was fantastic! We were seated immediately (it was like 9 pm on a Saturday) and ordered a flaming volcano for 2 - which ended up being both delicious and hilarious. Lighting the fire on the flame took about 3 ppl and about 5 min and the straws they gave us to drink this fish bowl were about 2 ft long - try not flipping that out of your drink while you eat Japanese food. Good times. We started with the vegetable tempura and it was really tasty and had a good variety of vegetables in it. However - had I know the PORTION sizes here I might have just waited for the regular meal. I got the filet and chicken with fried rice - to my excitement this also came with LO MEIN! I love lo mein so that was a pleasant surprise. The fried rice as delicious too. The veggies were.... veggies, but both of the meats I got were delicious and perfectly cooked. I also REALLY liked both the dipping sauces they offer for your food. 2 of the best teppan sauces I have ever had and I eat alot of teppan style food. I will definitely be back next time I'm in town.

Slow is how I wouid rate this restaurant. Slow to unlock the doors until past opening time. Slow to greet me and seat me and SLOW service. It kills me when you sit for 20 minutes, knowing what you want and your waitress FINALLY shows up and says "Have you decided" like she had been waiting to see that light dawn on your face as the right order finally hit you. I told my waitress I had decided about 15 minutes ago. Geez. And that horrible music, seems to play the same song over and over, some lady singing. I asked if it was Japanese music and was told "No, it is Korean". I told the waitress it was horrible. Anyway I sat at a table and ordered the hibichi food, steak, scallops and chicken which came with the soup, salad and fried vegetables and fried rice or refried rice, one or the other or is the refried only Mexican. Anyway like someone else said the salad was a little wattery. I don't know if they didn't dry the lettuce or the dressing is on the thin side. And after reading the reviews of this place I expected to be blown away but it was just OK. I liked my mixed drink though. I would go back but next time I'll tell them "No seeds all over my food". I don't know why they sprinkle seeds over everything. I wish I could tell them no awful Korean music, maybe from North Korea, I forgot to ask, if so that might explain why it was so bad, maybe a lady being tortured and in pain as it sounded like it. Strange location, like an industrial area where you get your tire changed here and grab a bit of Japanese food there. Oh yes, on subsequent visits I realized how horrible the noodles where that come with the food so I need to remember to tell them, NO NOODLES!!!! But they have toned down the seeds, must have just been a seedy cook. And it is nice to get the food sitting alone at your own table as opposed to sharing your table with strangers who sometimes can be bazaar or obnoxious and not having to wait while the cook twirls his utensils or plays with an egg. The last time I had a waiter who was a pretty nice guy and he was entertaining. Came back to this place yesterday, August 31, 2013. Remembered to tell the waitress no noodles but forgot to tell her no seeds. The waitress could hardly understand English. The light over the table was dim, the letters on the menu were small, I told the waitress I was having trouble reading the menu and she responded "Scallops and what else?". I said loudly, "No scallops, I said the light was dim, I want the chicken and filet". She wandered back out later and said "How is your meal - good". I find that very irritating. If you want to know how my meal is ask, don't throw in good. I told her it was NOT good as I had ordered the filet cooked medium rare. She just looked concerned but made no reply and simply went off and never returned except to bring me the check. So service is poor, food is good but seedy with really bad noodles if you don't remember to tell them to leave them off. You get your choice of an appetizer with your meal, chicken livers or shrimp. My waitress never asked me which I wanted but my order came with the shrimp so I can't complain. I would have complained had they given me the chicken liver.

I think the food is great and the sushi is really good, but the prices were a little bit high for what you receive.... Compared to Sakura, we pay the same amount and get literally twice as much food at Sakura and I don't feel like there is much difference in quality. I actually prefer Sakura's sushi to Tokyos. It was pretty average in my opinion and overpriced for average doesn't keep me wanting to come back...

This place is a little overpriced, but the sushi is wonderful and the main courses are delicious! We were HUGE fans of Sakura Japanese Steakhouse. We used to go there ALL the time (Woodbridge & Fredericksburg). I was invited to go to Tokyo Japanese with friends and although I wanted to go to Sakura, I went with the crowd. What a great mistake! This place put Sakuras to shame. I honestly feel guilty even saying that. There is something about the way they season their food and cook it just so. The rice was to die for too! My favorite thing about Sakuras was the soup and salad... Tokyo Japanese hit the nail on the head with the ginger dressing on the salad and the miso soup - A+! We only go to Tokyo Japanese :) Sorry Sakura....... Again, a little pricy, but well worth it in Woodbridge. I recommend the sit down dinner over the sushi. If you can travel to Lorton for sushi, I recommend Tokyo One Japanese Steakhouse.

Excellent dinner! Sat at the bar, watched the sushi chef make beautiful plates in front of us. The waitress was knowledgeable of menu but a little hard to understand (thick Asian accent), but was always attentive and prompt. Our meal arrived in minutes. Appetizer was delicious, as was the meal. Would absolutely come back.

I only had the sushi platter but it wasn't really anything great and I wouldn't drive out of my way to go back here. Fish quality isn't that great and a bit dry. But overall service and experience were pleasant. I would come back to try the hibachi but prob not the sushi.

We went here because of a groupon. My brother-in-law had never been to a Japanese Steak House and I love them so we took him. The food was GREAT (better than other Japanese Steak Houses), but the portions are smaller than any other Japanese steak house I've been to. Normally I have food left to take home and have for lunch the next day, but there I didn't have enough left to do that. There was plenty for dinner, but not much left. The service was good so I disagree with others on that one. Our drinks were always re-filled and our orders were correct. When we got the bill we were shocked. Even with the Groupon it was about fifty+ dollars. We didn't get alcohol, didn't get sushi, just a chicken and steak dinner (not even filet.) I don't mind paying for good food (which it most definitely was) but for the price there should have been more portions (compared to other steak houses.) I also didn't like that 18% gratuity was included for parties of 2 or more. I would have given 20% tip, so they actually got *less* money than they would have, but it's the point of the matter that I believe you pay for your service with tips and I didn't get to choose. If the service was as bad as some of the yelp reviews said then I would have been *VERY* upset with this tip being included. I do think I will go back to this resturaunt though as some point as the food was delicious!! (The reason I gave 3 stars instead of 4 or 5 was because of the amount of food given, price of food, and the gratuity being included. If it was only based off of food taste they would have definitely received 5!)

Came here with my sons! They ate sushi here for the first time and the first place where they enjoyed the food.

OK at the time I am writing this I was the Duke of this place. I'm not sure if Tokyo has come under different management or what but the service has gone down the crapper. The wait staff for the third trip here has just fallen on their faces on the hibachi side. I have had to remind them multiple times that I ordered white rice, they don't come around to refill drinks or even take away sushi plates when you are done with them. The sushi has taken an usually long amount of time recently to get. The chiefs are still funny and personable and seem to enjoy what they are doing but the waitstaff is starting to make me want to go across the street.

My family of 4 went to Tokyo Japanese Steak House because I thought it would have been a good deal ($40 voucher for $20). The Groupon mentioned that I needed to first make a reservation; when I called to make the reservation, the person who answered the phone seemed surprised that I called. Nonetheless, I packed up my family directly after my husband and I got off work and after the kids played for a little while. I was kind of weary when I found the restaurant buried behind a Firestone Auto Center, but we entered at our own risk anyway. I don't know if our waitress was waiting for other customers to fill up our table, but it took a while for the waitress to take our order. I thought I had fast-forwarded into the future because the prices are super inflated! My husband got the steak and shrimp hibachi. I got the chicken and shrimp hibachi. One of my kids got the vegetable hibachi, and my other kid got the steak hibachi kids meal. The broth was a bit salty for my taste. The salad appeared watery, but the salad dressing was terrific. Our cook was really nice and did lots of fire tricks! With the exception of the noodles, our meal was delicious. Maybe the waitress expected us to be dressed like we were at a 5-star restaurant, but, instead, she didn't even bother to ask if we were interested in dessert. When I provided her my Groupon, she let me know that she'd need my phone for a couple minutes in order to write some numbers. Rosy quickly returned the bill and I was surprised to see 18% gratuity added to my party of 4. I had planned on giving the waitress 20% because she was attentive to filling our water glasses and clearing the dishes. I, then, had to ask if I could get my phone back. Since she took it upon herself to add gratuity to the bill, I decided against it. After the $40 voucher, I still had to pay an additional $53.15. That totals $93.15. If I would have taken my family to Ruth's Chris, I probably would have been able to get more food. The inflated prices and the automatic 18% gratuity will make me never set foot in Tokyo Japanese Steak House again.

One of the top 5 places I like to go to eat in the area! The sushi is top notch and always tastes fresh, with perfect, consistent sushi rice. They don't skimp on the protein with the nigiri either. Their version of the spicy tuna roll is my all time favorite. If you watch them make it, you will see that they make each order fresh, by finely dicing tuna from the brick that the nigiri/sashimi comes from, not grisly leftovers. They mix it with fresh chives and sriracha with little (maybe no?) mayo. It tastes sooooo much more fresh and light than other heavy-on-the-mayo rolls that you will usually find. I usually just go in for the sushi - many different types including: tuna, salmon, eel, squid, octopus, clam, their version of the spider-roll and others. Have not gotten sick after eating sushi there well over 20 times in the last 2 years. I should also mention that I took a group of 12 middle school kids and parents there and were treated with exceptional service. The chefs were great with the kids, and the parents were impressed with the quality of the food and service. I agree with the description of the 5 star rating - "as good as it gets!"

First thing you notice when you walk in is the horrible smell. Smells like cigars? Not very pleasing. The waitress was ok. Food wasn't all the great like other Yelpers stated. I've definitely had better food. The Miso soup was HORRIBLE. tasted like dish soap. I wouldn't come back to this place.

I like this place for the Tepanyaki. The wife and I have been to many Tepanyaki places and we both feel this is one of the better places for it. Their sake selection is fairly decent and you get a lot of food with the meal. With your meat of choice you get soup, salad, shrimp appetizer, fried rice (or white), lo mein and vegetables. All of the food is quite good. I like the dressing on the salad. This visit I got the filet mignon and scallops. The filet was cooked to order and just melted in your mouth. The scallops were also very well prepared. Very, very good! The chef we had this time was also very entertaining and put on a good show throughout his preparation, doing some of the traditional hibachi tricks. I've been here in the past and had some less entertaining chefs, so it can be the luck of the draw. The sushi and other side dishes are decent here. I definitely wouldn't come here looking for tremendous sushi, but the rolls I've had on occasion to go with my Tepanyaki have been ok. If you come here, come for the Tepanyaki, it's their strong point.

We were with a party so we got the hibachi grill. It was not impressive though my salmon was cooked quite well, it was flavored with teriyaki instead of lemon butter as the menu read. Too many choices in the area to think of going back. 2.5 stars at best.

Always get Filet and shrimp. Also get tempura to share. Leave my shrimp alone...I do agree the salad is too wet - wattery dressing in the bottom of the bowl - I just do not eat it.

Again i have had real sushi and have lived in japan so i think im qualified to legitimately give this place the rating it deserves. This place is good if you have never had or do not know what sushi is supposed to taste like. Its almost as authentic as the sushi i had in japan. Even though the sushi is decent the prices are stupidly expensive. For a roll of 6 expect to pay 4.35+ for any kind of MAKI sushi ( with the seaweed on the outside) for sashimi ( Raw slivers of fish) expect to dish our 5.45 for 2 peices yes i said TWO. The Miso soup is authentic and just like it tastes in japan, the food is decent quality and the closest to real japanese sushi and food your going to find in the area. Even a few real japanese people work there so its not some other Asians pretending to be japanese. ( i spoke with them and held a conversation in japanese) So authenticity this restaurant is great, i didnt try the tenpenyaki but the prices for that seemed fair. My bill was 66.00 and for 2 people we didnt leave full we only got miso soup and 3 rolls of sushi each. If your lookin to go on a fancy date or looking for authentic sushi come here otherwise stray away! ( only because its overpriced)

We ventured out to Woodbridge to visit a friend. I think this place is owned by Koreans, and our waitress was very cute and bubbly. PROS: -Yummy fried rice! My mood is ruined if the fried rice tastes gross or is soggy from too much oil/butter from the grill. -The noodles actually taste good (I've had flavorless noodles from Kobe steakhouse, eww) -They carry Orion, an Okinawan beer CONS: -Scallops were a little sandy -The quality of the meat was not that great... They do the usual stuff like making you catch shrimp with your mouth, etc. I cringed when the chef was doing a trick with raw eggs and accidentally broke one right by a guest's plates. He wiped it up and everything but I was glad it wasn't me. Overall, the experience was pretty average but I find myself craving the fried rice. Maybe I'll try the one in Alexandria which is closer to me. (Does anyone know where I can score some sweet carrots? It might be a southern thing because I've only been able to find it in the Japanese steakhouses in N. and S. Carolina...but I never stop looking! Sometimes they grill the sweet carrots and it gets all caramelized, OMG SO GOOD! If anyone knows where they have it up here, I will be forever grateful!!!)

I really like this place. I'm a big fan of Japanese Steakhouses, but I think this one stands apart from the rest. The atmosphere is nicer than most places like this, and the food is really good. The chef listens to you and cooks your food how you want it. I asked for medium rare steak, and it came out that way. The dressing on the salad is also superior to other places, and I love that they give you rice AND noodles. They are also very accomodating of special parties. We had dinner here for my sister's bachelorette party before we went out, and they let us have the whole table in the back corner and they let us decorate the place too. Good stuff.

I was with Jenny S. that night... I'm the husband. Since I'm the one who was sick, I can tell you that YES I was sick because I went to this place to eat... not because of some flu bug or anything else. Furthermore, explaining to my doctor the events that lead up to my sickness, she too explained that she had been to the exact restaurant (random because she doesn't live anywhere close to this place) and had come down with the exact symptoms I had been dealing with. You don't have to be a detective to figure out that this was indeed what caused my illness. In all fairness, I had 14 people with me that night and none of them became ill. I deduced it was a type of sushi I had that no one else had. I should also say that we loved this place and had been there a few times previously and had never had any problems. The service was great, the food was delicious and the Hibachi chefs were amazing. I was extremely disappointed to realize that I became sick because of the food I ate here, but I think anyone who has become sick from eating at a restaurant would understand why I would never want to go back there and would warn anyone else from going there. I would never want anyone to experience what I experienced. Play it safe and do not take a chance on this place. You may be the one out of every couple hundred customers that gets sick like I did.

I travel a lot for work and I've tried many different Teppanyaki restaurants. This is one of my favorites. No other Japanese Steakhouse restaurant has been able to compare since I ate here. The price is reasonable too... about $20 for a single hibachi order, like filet mignon. I always have leftovers, which I look forward to the next day. That's what I will go eat after I finish posting this review. My family and friends are frequent customers... we eat here 1-2 times a month. I usually get the Hibachi Filet Mignon medium rare. I've tried a lot of the other menu items and I've never gotten sick. I'm not sure what the other customers are referring to in their reviews, especially since I eat here ALL the time. Need I say more? Yes, I think so. I've come back to update my original review to let everyone know that I went and finished my left overs. A few hours later I played a soccer game and scored two goals (wearing a bulky knee brace after having two knee surgeries from a torn ACL). The sushi is also very good. There is a decent selection of fresh fish and rolls. You can always add/remove items from a roll if you would like. My parents used to own Muraski in DC and that was the best sushi I had, even compared to places in NYC (where I lived for 8 years). I like TJSH sushi even more. The staff is very friendly. The chefs are the best I've seen and they do a fantastic job with small children. If he's available, request JJ. He's the head chef and is really funny. When my father passed away earlier this year, we rented out their party room at the last minute. The staff was very understanding during our time of pain and it made the evening more pleasant.

This past weekend I visited TJSH. It wasn't packed but had a nice amount of patrons. We were seated right away. The tempura shrimp and vegetables were good. I ordered the shrimp and scallops with steamed rice and it was tasty. I like this place as it handles large parties and quick service. First impressions are important and they filled my belly and made me happy.

Service: Okay Location: Good Food: So-so Recommend: No This was my first visit to Tokyo Japanese Steak House, located right in the heart of the Potomac Mills area of Woodbridge. The location was easy to find and get to and there is ample parking surrounding the building. As other Yelpers have commented, the front area of the restaurant does continue to have that cigarette/smokey smell but once you enter the restaurant it disappears. The restaurant itself is decently sized with the hibachi area located to the left as you enter the establishment and the sushi bar and regular seating areas towards the rear and right side. There was nothing fancy or overdone with the decor. For a not-so-busy Wednesday early evening, the service overall was okay--our order was taken promptly, the chef at the grill performed all the typical show-off stuff (that also apparently scared a the nearby 3 year old when the grill went up in flames). Drink refills didn't come to either my end of the table nor at the other party's end (the family with the kid). The food had something else to be left desired. First of all, their a la cart menu was more expensive than I had anticipated. For nigiri plates, you're looking at around an average of $6-7 for 2 pieces/plate. Rolls are priced on par with other Japanese restaurants. I normally order off the a la cart menu but after seeing the prices I opted to for the sushi/sashimi assortment. I can't remember the exact amount but you get about 2-3 pieces of 3 types of sashimi, 4 types of nigiri pieces, and 6 california roll pieces. The fish wasn't fresh--a bit dry and at times difficult to chew on. The california roll pieces were made with more rice than I'd care to eat, which made each piece bigger than a 1-bite serving. The presentation of the dish itself appeared as if a novice chef had done the plating--care wasn't taken when placing the rolls on the plate, appearing squished in areas, and each of the sashimi sets weren't twirled and placed identically, rather looking like someone hurriedly plopped the pieces down on the plate. The miso soup was nothing special. You can't go wrong with the soup unless you mix in too much or too little water with the miso paste. There was too much ginger dressing my salad (literally my lettuce was swimming in it at the bottom of the bowl). Japanese food is very much about presentation as it is about taste. My dish of assorted sashimi and sushi didn't have either. My aunt's food was a bit more of a saving grace for this review though. She ordered the Filet Mignon Hibachi and, according to her, came out to how she ordered/expected it. She did note that although she has been to this restaurant one other time previously, she had no high expectations of marked improvement on food quality. She still prefers...given the options in Woodbridge...going to Sakura. I don't live in Woodbridge but I do frequently drive through or am in the neighborhood to visit relatives. After having this kind of experience at TJSH, I'm not inclined to try it a second time especially when the prices are steep for what they offer. I very much prefer the likes of Sushi Yoshi, Yoko, and Tachibana in the Vienna/McLean area or Kotobuki and Sei in DC. For a few bucks more (and even less on the a lart menus of some of these other restaurants), I don't mind having a dish that looks professionally plated and fresh/high quality cuts of fish served.

I am so sad to this since I loved Tokyo. But it just isn't as amazing as other places I've been to yes it beats Sakura and Kobe for me but not other places. My friend had to flag down our waitress to get her a drink. I still think it's great for dinner

I really love this place for the excellent customer service, atmosphere, food presentation and fresh sushi. The miso soup and teas are wonderful. As soon as you step inside Tokyo Japanese Steak House you are greeted by the staff and taken care of throughout your entire meal. The prices are very reasonable!

My Partner, another Couple and I visited this place on the day before Valentines day. Due to the time we knew it would be busy, however what we experienced was beyond any means excusable.... When we sat down we were greeted by our waiter (Andy) he rushed us through our drink orders and left. We each ordered a cocktail and water. He came back about ten min later with just the waters. He asked if we were ready to order. I asked about the special which the lady sitting next to us recommended. He seemed annoyed and blurrted it out so quickly, that with accent I was unable to understand him. I asked him to repeat himself and he instructed that I go to the chalk board where the specials are written. One of my dinner companion ordered tea which came out so cold she barely sipped it. We placed our order. We ordered En dame as our appetizer . I asked for limes since i like to soak my en dame with it. I ordered the steak and scallops and my friend ordered the special Tokyo Spicy Tuna Rolls. Having already been there for over 20 min we began to wonder where our drinks were. Finally at the 25 min mark our drinks came out. About 5 min later they brought us our soups. We finished them and waited for ten min until Andy finally brought our appetizer. He never brought the limes out. We asked where our salads were and he said "oh yeah the kitchen is backed up." having been a waiter for 3 different restaurants I find it hard to believe that the salads are prepared by the kitchen and not the waiter. 2 min later the salads came out. About 15 min later the food came out. My order was wrong. Instead of steak and scallops I was served steak and shrimp. My friend's Tokyo rolls were not brought out at all. I told him my order was wrong and he took the whole plate away. So there we sat. Two of us with food, and two of us without food. I approached the manager once the two that had food were close to finishing their meal and we had yet to be served. The Manager insulted us by giving us a free round of drinks. Like if that was going to make up for the horrendous experience. Our food FINALLY came out shortly after. Although the food was mediocre I must give credit where it is deserved: the Tokyo Spicy Tuna Rolls were amazing! I was so livid with this experience that I wrote on the check that this was the worst service I've ever had and that I would be writing a review about this! I don't recommend this restaurant to even the roaches that we saw crawling on the floor.

Great seafood. Nice waitresses. Best in the Woodbridge area. Has a combination meal which is clutch.

The sushi is decent. There aren't many choices in Woodbridge. I would pick this one over all available in Woodbridge. I always order out now because the place always smells like cigar and cigarette smoke. I asked the workers there why it smelled like smoke and they said it was because of the smoke shop a few doors down. I find that so hard to believe though. I can't stand the smell. It ruins the meal and your clothes and hair stink after leaving Tokyo. They really need to do something about the smoke before I come back there!

Best sushi in No. Va hands down. We have been regulars here since TJSH opened and have never been dissapointed. The sushi is always extremely fresh and professinally prepared by Chef Chin who expertly turns his fish into food art. The service is always top notch and attentive without being instrusive. Andy the Manager always makes sure that your experience is good and is attentive to your needs. A great place for fresh sushi and good times!

Best sushi in the Woodbridge/Dale City area. I was a bit disappointed with the Tuna Tatake dish, but other than that it is my favorite sushi joint.

husband, in-laws, and i have been coming here since it opened. i was so happy to see a new japanese/hibachi place since sakura nearby just keeps getting worse and worse every visit. toyko steakhouse does a good job of integrating decent and creative sushi with the deliciousness of teppanyaki, so there's usually something for everyone. everything is at least standard, and some things are really delicious. a quick rundown of the teppanyaki dinners: *soup: average. *salad: good dressing *fried rice: delicious but it kills me to watch how much butter and oil goes into it. they could get away with a lot less without losing any flavor. *noodles: sometimes good, sometimes kind of soggy and flavorless. depends on the chef *veggies: great. always fresh, usually cooked perfectly. *protein: i happen to be a vegetarian so i can't really tell you, but i've never heard any complaints overall, a solid place. i'm always happy to come by when i'm in town

I liked this place a lot until I took my husband there for his birthday and he was sick for a week afterwords. I wouldn't normally just assume it was a certain restaurant or meal, but then he finally went to the doctor and she said she felt sick after eating here a week earlier.

Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse has perhaps the finest sushi I have ever eaten. The head sushi chef has 20 years experience and it shows. They routinely have several grades of toro (fatty tuna) and often have live scallops. The sushi is always fresh. Hot tip - sit at the bar, not a table. There are a number of house specialties, but the real winner is the spicy tuna hand roll - simply the best ever. I eat here about once every two weeks. Note that Friday and Saturday nights are super busy. Sunday lunch or Thursdays are better.

So, I understand we came on an "off" kind of night, but I still felt a little disappointed in our experience. To be fair, the food was excellent! We were seated immediately upon arrival, but the hosts and servers neglected to tell us - until we had been waiting upwards of half an hour at the table - that every cook was busy cooking for a rehearsal dinner in another room of the restaurant. I wish they had told us when we came in! We ended up waiting at the table for nearly an HOUR before the cook came, and before our orders were even taken. Sipping on sprite (drinks also took a long time to get to the table) gets kind of old for a while. I know things take longer in a japanese steakhouse, because that's just the way things work there... but I thought it was unacceptable for no notice to be given about the huge wait and complete lack of servers, since they already knew they were busy with the rehearsal dinne. Disappointing, especially because I was taking my hubby for his 30th birthday dinner. He still enjoyed his time with me and like I said, the food was delicious, but the service was bad, and having previously worked in the food industry I usually have a lot of understanding for that kind of thing, knowing how crazy things can get... but it was just very frustrating. Also, when I ordered a tempura appetizer, I was brought the wrong thing (understandable and not a big deal, it happens), though didn't realize it till I took the first bite and tasted it. BUT when I let the server know, she took it away, then came back to the table with a really huffy attitude and asked me in front of everyone why I didn't tell her it was the wrong thing before I took a bite. She repeated this like three times! Um, because tempura is fried and it all looks the same? Also, it's not my fault for being served the wrong appetizer. So in summary... 5 stars for the yummy food, but 1 star for that night's service...

The ambiance here deserves 5 stars, it is everything you expect a Japanese steakhouse to be. I recently went there with a friend and had dinner. The service was good, the ambiance was good, the smell of the food was fantastic, i sat at a regular table and ordered a bento box for 21 dollars chicken terriake has to be great right. no it was obviously some breast meat with rib meat attached, there were big red veins running through the otherwise rubber meat. The sauce tasted amazingly like the stuff you buy at the grocery very salty and just not to caliper with the rest of the place. there was a couple of pieces of sushi that came with it along with a California roll. The sushi fish wise didn't look all that appetizing and i kind of questioned whether or not to eat it, so i didn't, the California roll also came quite loosly packed and fell apart when i picked it up and tried to dip it, there was a little fish roe on top, which i think should be an option i dislike caviar and really dislike the cheaper version of it. honestly there is another place here in woodbridge which is a lot better but has not so great an ambiance. I will go back again sometime and try the teppenyaki but as for the chicken terriake and the sushi itself it is probably off my list, few suggestions are drop the sushi from the bento just include the California roll not topped with fish roe, and get some better chicken for the entree portion, if you are going to charge a premium price for the food it should be good product, and change your terriake sauce or sweeten it a bit. I lived in japan for 3 or 4 years and never had food quite like this there.

Been multiple times on lunch and dinner. Enjoyed the lunch bento box. Their sushi & sashmi are pretty average but they are better than other sushi restaurants I've tried in Woodbridge so far. Have not tried Teppanyaki yet.

Need I say more? I used to live in NY so I know what it means when it comes to good food... But this place seriously hits the spot. The only downside is that it's too far from my house and I can't go every night. I mean, I live in McLean, so yes, there are other nearby places like Sushi Yoshi or Tachibana. However quality wise, this place delivers far better cutting (?) and fresher sashimi. So I would choose TJHS over other places any day, every day. I've only tried hibachi once... And I don't know much about it. But all I know is that it was a better experience than Sakura.

When I'm visiting my BFF in "Hoodbridge" or happen to be in the area, I like to check out the many many restaurants there are. I have come to Tokyo Steak House a few times and always left full, entertained, and if I am in the area, I will comeback. I prefer this Japanese Steak House over Sakura which is right across the street. At least the staff here are friendly and apologetic if something goes wrong. At Sakura, they were always rude and made it seem like it was our fault if something went wrong. Anywho, on with the #thisiswhyimfat status. Oh no she didn't use hashtag! Oh yes I did! You can NEVER go wrong with the Hibachi stuff or the stuff cooked in front of you. Food is plentiful and has always been fresh. Although the consistency differs. One time my fried rice was cooked perfect. The next time the rice was rock hard. Ya know....like it wasn't precooked before the "frying" part. For the hibachi, I change it up. Usually my go to is the filet and shrimp. The filet has always been cooked perfect as my request of medium rare/medium. Shrimp is sometimes overcooked thus making it too chewy and "rubbery". Oh and donh't forget the pound of herb butter they use on top of the cooking oil. That's my one complaint. Very oily food. Moreo than other Hibachi places I have visited. When I request no or less butter/oil, the chef always gives me funny looks. LOL. One chef told me that since he "cooks everything all together" that he can't avoid using the butter and oil. Ok. My advice is to skip the sushi. I've gotten the 007 roll (crab, avacado, cucumber roll), and it was just ok. I was never wowed by the sushi here. All in all, good food, very friendly staff, and good entertainment.

Actually not that bad. I only come here for the sushi. I love their NY Roll and tobkio! The only downside about this place is the service tend to be really slow and not attentive. But overall I would recommend this place because the owner gave me free food lol.

Had a blast on a friday night! We sat at the sushi bar and the service was very friendly! The fish was so fresh and the miso soup hit the spot on a cold night. The chicken katsu was so crispy and delicious. Great dinner.

The hibachi entrees are a little greasy, however the sashimi is fresh and delicious . I wouldn't consider raw fish on my own, but a friend recommended it. It was very good. We shared the lunch sampler. I'll happily order it again the next time I have a hankering.

If it weren't for the tasty food and grill-chef, I would have given this place a one star rating. As many other reviewers have stated, the quality of service has decreased a lot. We dined here last night and our entire table (3 different parties) was dissatisfied with the service. 1. The appetizer salad was tiny and lettuce wasn't fresh. 2. We sat for over 45 minutes before the chef came to our table to begin cooking. 3. The white sauce for the food (yum yum sauce) was watery and had little taste. 4. Our Waiter wasn't attentive. Another party at our table had other issues and expressed concern to management who refused to acknowledge much of what they were saying. We will not be going back.

This is an update to a review a year ago where I was all about this place. No longer! People are right that this place has really dropped in the quality of food and service. The server was rude and argued with me about the portion size of the salad- mine had a few lettuce pieces and was wilted. He starts telling me "About the sizes, it's complimentary..." Buddy you better stop right there because if you can't bring out consistent plates than explain your rotten lettuce. In addition, the prices are ridiculous. $12.95 for a child's plate. My 5 year old was able to eat 1/5 of it and she was the last plate brought, after I asked her order be put in immediately. Again, he made excuses that it was a Saturday and busy. Finally, my sushi was covered in smelt roe. So gross! It was inside and all over the top of it. I've never seen anything like it. We will not be returning.

Sure, it was Saturday night, but I can't tolerate very slow, disappointing and obnoxious service... wilted lettuce in the salad... super sloppy spicy tuna roll... sadly, we won't be back.

Love sitting at sushi bar. They are so friendly. Love the spicy tuna tempura and the mussels - must get those every time. And their salad. Specialty drinks are tasty too.

Will give 0 star if possible. There were 5 of us in a group and we went on Saturday, 6pm. There was barely any customers there for Saturday and that should have gave us some sign... Anyway, after everyone on the table was seated, we waited for 15minutes before someone come and ask what we want to drink, it was another 30 minutes before the chef comes to our table. Then, the waiter told us that there was not enough time to prep for salad and soup that it will be served at the end of our meal instead of in the beginning as appetizer. The waiter also forgot to bring out one of our alcoholic drinks (perhaps they don't want our business). Food: steak was well done whether you order rare or medium rare. NONE of the shrimps were deveined/depoop that I had to spend the entire time doing it myself. Scallops was ok and the fried rice were good. Overall, service was non-existence and food was below average. Bad graduation dinner experience if you ask me.

This review is for my 2nd visit, because the 1st time we had an excellent cook who sauteed the food perfectly in a fun way. But then we got someone who did his job with flat affect and the food showed it by being partly burnt and more meager and less tasty!

I use to love going here until recently. Service was very slow. I asked to speak to a manager and the "manager" who wasn't really a manager told me that "she's not going to come over here she doesn't like confrontation" ummmmm I'm sorry but if you are in hospitality you need to be a little more mature and professional about your position. I won't go back. Unfortunately I told my family and friends I thought it was better than sakura although they wanted to go there they compromised and what do ya know ... Crappiest experience ever.

I really love this sushi bar. I've been coming here for years and service is always good and the sushi always delicious. We love the head chef. My favorites include Japanese lasagna and the $5 spicy rolls. The specialty rolls are pretty good too. Try the mussels - yum!!!

The reviews were a huge put off but I was really craving hibachi and I found a Groupon so we attempted to visit tonight. The first thing I noticed when entering was a moldy/musty smell that almost sent me out the door. The restaurant was empty and we were told it would be over a 40 minute wait. When I inquired as to why I was told they only had two chefs and both were working a big party in the back. I wasn't about to wait 40 minutes in an empty, stinky restaurant. Plus it spoke volumes about the service we would have received. Thank God Groupon makes it so easy to get a refund!

Ok wow this is a lot of food. You will be completely stuffed. A friend and I split a meal and we were still so stuffed we felt sick. We got the fillet mignon, scallops, and lobster meal for the 2 of us. It came with fried rice, vegetables, and some shrimp as well. Something unique that I haven't seen before at a tempanyaki place is that they also gave us noodles with the fried rice! As if there already wasn't enough food! So, this place is awesome but be ready to eat a looooot!

It's such a shame this restaurant had to go downhill in such a hurry. It actually use to be quite special when it first opened up. The wait for our food was lengthy and the miso soup was watered down until it was unrecognizable. Chicken tasted unright, almost as if it has been sitting somewhere for weeks. Not only that but I was informed that noodles were no longer included with my meal like they have always been.

No long lines... we were able to sit down as soon as we came in. It was just that our waiter didnt really come by to check on us. 4 of the people in our table had to ask twice for a water refill. one didnt get her martini till she was almost done eating. Food was alright. The only thing that i really liked was our cook, Peter, was very nice and accommodating. I found him very funny and entertaining. He actually was the one that went ahead and got the drinks for the other people because he noticed that they were getting irritated with the waiter. lol! parking was also good. plenty of space to park.

Have had many a good meal here with no complaints. Usual order the T7 which is a combo of hibachi steak and chicken. Entrees come with clear soup and salad however the salad is largely forgettable just iceberg lettuce pieces drizzled with a ginger teriyaki based dressing-- I usually skip it. You are offered a choice of steamed or fried rice but ask for the chef's special fried rice--it's made to order and delicious. Steaks are usually cooked medium well unless you specify. Prices for sake are reasonable. Staff are super friendly and service efficient.

My fiancé and I decided to try this place out because we love Sakura's but we were curious to see what this one would be like. Upon entering we decided we wanted to sit up at the sushi bar. So we found a seat and it wasn't until about 5 to 7 minutes later that a waiter came over and got our drink order. Then it took them another five minutes to bring our drinks back and then he left without taking our order. When he finally returned we placed our sushi order and in addition we asked for two sides of fried rice. The waiter informed us that we were not allowed to order fried rice because we were not sitting up at the hibachi grill...because they did not have enough. Which makes me wonder if they were skimping on rice to those who were sitting there... Anyways I digress...Yes it was a Friday evening but there were only two grills going when we got there and it was only 8 o'clock. I don't understand how you wouldn't be able to order fried rice when you come to a Japanese restaurant. The food is the only reason why I gave this place two stars as opposed to no stars. The sushi chef looked like he had a lot to do and it was unfortunate because we did not get the normal experience that we like to get when we sit up at the sushi bar like speaking with the chefs. The sushi was nice and fresh and I will have to say that it was pretty good considering everything we had gone through. Unfortunately, however, I don't believe we will return to this place because the service was just subpar and we would prefer to go to Sakura's. I just really wish they work on their customer service. Because that would make this restaurant a top competitor to other Japanese steak houses. Let me know if this happens and I will gladly go back.

I have eaten here a few times, and the food is typically good. My children, my spouse, and I all ate here tonight ordering from the grill as well as sushi. The food was a 5, our waiter (the young guy with dirty blonde hair) was a 5, but the chefs behavior is why I decided to score the restaurant an overall 3, and also the reason I won't be returning. My family made ordering difficult due to our multiple personalized request, and our waiter did a great job at getting most the request correct. When the chef came to cook he verified out order... One of my children ordered chicken, but the waiter put down, steak. The chef called the waiter over, in front of us customers, and scolded him for getting our order wrong... Very, very uncomfortable, and unprofessional. I was really upset about it. He should have just fixed the problem without pulling the waiter over. I will not do business with them anymore because of this chef's rude way of dealing with a SIMPLE mistake.

I wouldn't have given restaurant a high rating due many to dissatisfactions. The server started by seating us like usual. We look through the menu while we wait her her to serves us. But it took her over fifteen minutes to get our drinks order. We ask for sushi to come first but they bought the entree after another 15 mins of wait me the sushi when we were half done with the entree. There were no service, the server were in such a rush on everything. And the food tastes bad! It was very bald and tasteless. Won't be back anytime soon.

Arrived and waited 1.5 hrs for service. The waiter was friendly but lacked basic serving skills. No one seemed to know what was going on when the time came to prepare the hibachi dinner. A gentleman order salmon medium, tasted it on his plate from which he had already eaten his rice, and requested the chef cook the order longer to well done. The chef took the spatula with which he was cooking the tables meal and lifted his salmon from his plate and cooked it more. He proceeded to finish cooking my steak with the spatula and served it. When we complained to management, no apology was given. The hibachi was removed but we were charged for salad and soup which came with the hibachi meal. No one - not the manager, owner, chef, or waiter - apologized for our experience and unsanitary food preparation. Don't eat here.

Food was great, however, it's a bit pricy and the wait was ridiculous. Given it was during lunch time but we were the second customer came and it took roughly 45 min for them to bring out our last item ordered. Maybe we should pre-order before coming over

We went tonight because my mom had a groupon and we were celebrating my birthday. Upon arriving the girl immediately stated they only had two chefs so we would have to share a table with another family, which isn't a big deal. The family next to us seemed a little pissed but we didn't know why. We ordered our drinks, waters and some of their alcoholic specialty drinks. The server came back told us their bartender wasn't there so they couldn't make our drinks. Minus one star. We then were talking to the family next to us and they told us that they had been there with no food for an hour waiting and they had a movie to get to shortly. Minus another star. They got up and left without eating. Our chef came out he was great and the food was delicious for the two of us that got the hibachi. My mom and sister got the dinner boxes which were a ton of food but the server brought my mom shrimp when she ordered salmon. He apologized for the mistake and left the shrimp box and went to cook her the salmon she ordered. Service was really slow, which was irritating because there were two young girls talking to each other rather than refilling drinks or checking on guests. We were constantly out of drinks and needed other things. When my moms salmon came out it was still cold and raw in the middle. Minus another star. The server was nowhere to be found but the chef came back to chat with us and he took it to the back and cooked it again for us. Overall the food was good but the service was awful and no bartender was a let down since we were celebrating.

There's nothing that really sets this place apart from other Japanese steak houses, but it's definitely the best one in Woodbridge and will be a good meal out. The chefs are usually on top of their game and are pretty entertaining. The food is always excellent. I suggest getting the scallops and filet. The lobster is also delicious. In my opinion, the food wouldn't be nearly as tasty without the incredible sauces. There's 2 sauces - one for the seafood and one for the beef. The orange sauce (aka Yum Yum sauce) is amazing and I pour it on everything. The chefs are pretty generous with offering you more when you run out. While most people will sit around the grill and eat Hibachi-style, there is also a sushi bar available which I have not experienced yet. They offer domestic beers and a few Japanese beers which is cool. And of course they offer sake. The prices are nothing outrageous - I think it ranges between $17-$25 dollars for the Hibachi-style dinner, depending on what you order. One negative thing I have to say about the place is that the service from the waiters is usually pretty lousy. When I have to get up out of my seat and ask my server for more water, that's not a good sign. Tokyo Japanese Steak House is always a safe bet to go out with a group as it's almost a guaranteed fun time. Just don't expect something life changing.

This place is the choice for sushi when I go out. The good always comes out quick, the servers are very attentive and there is hardly a wait. Reason for 4 stars: - The prices are little high. If your penny pinching, not the place to go. - The Shrimp tempura is more vegetables than shrimp. Although they do offer a vegetable tempura, it's like they charge more because they throw 2 shrimp in. Minor complaints but definitely still recommend it.

I used to come to Tokyo Japanese Steak House all the time. Whenever there was a special event, this place was my restaurant of choice. That being said, that is the only reason why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. I returned to the steakhouse after college and after 4 years of withdrawal. I saw a coupon on groupon so I figured it was time for my reunion with Tokyo Steakhouse. However, my experience was awful. It took way too long for the waitress to take our orders, and when she did, it was apparent that she wasn't listening. All the orders were messed up and some people at our table never got their food. Then, while the cook was doing his magic, the giant 3-pronged fork slipped out of his hand and almost stabbed the lady next to me. Good thing her glass was in the way and took the bullet for her. However, glass exploded everywhere and I was afraid that I would cut my tongue while I was eating my glass infested food. Other than the staff, my food was just sub par and definitely not as good as I remember. I don't know what happened within the last 4 years but with Sakura just down the street, Tokyo Japanese Steak House has a lot of work to do.

I use to go to this place often but now they have really gone downhill. The rice is always crunchy, but I guess you can call it raw or rare to give it appeal. We went last night and it was horrible!!!! We were seated immediately and within 10 minutes our table was full. You would think they would come and start cooking right? Got there at 6:35. Seated at 6:40. The chef did not come to cook until 7:45.My table had 5 children and the rest adults. The children were completely restless. We tried to order sushi but were told that the chef couldn't make any special orders because it would take him to long. When did a roll with shrimp and cucumbers become nuclear physics???? Harris teeters can make them in 2 minutes flat!!!!! So needless to say we never got our sushi because the chef refused to make them. Then I found a bug in my drink which utterly disgusted me. The manager on duty which was an old crotchety woman continued to stare at us the whole night making us extremely uncomfortable. Not once did she apologize about the bug in the drink or the wait for the crunchy rice. Oh no.Let me just stare and do nothing to help the service at all. In addition they charge for every little thing. You want extra sauce 50 cents. You want an extra egg in your rice $1.00 per egg. This place is absolutely ridiculous. But if your into rice that makes your jaw hurt, an old lady watching your every move while you eat, and waiting and hour for no apparent reason this is the place for you. For the price that we paid here we should have went to the new restaurant knives right around the corner. SAVE YOUR MONEY THIS PLACE IS NOT WORTH IT.

Okay. It was my turn to select the place for dinner and I picked this place because of the decent reviews. Well, well, well..... We walked in, sat at the hibachi table and realize there was NO AC!!! The only reason we stayed was because we were already seated and there was a portable air condition machine thing (have no idea what to call it but should have taken a picture) directly next to us. The food was mediocre and that is an overstatement. The waitress was not very attentive and spoke so slowly that it appeared she was not interested at all. Once the checks where given we sat and chatted for a while without water or her returning to ask if we needed anything. I had to ask the waiter from another table who seemed very engaged with his tables for refill on water. You would think spending over $100 combined service would be better. The chef .... He did not do anything amazing or even talk to us other than confirming the orders. He did the smiley face and the volcano that was all. Trust me I've been to places like this many times so I wasn't upset that he skipped the show and cooked the food!!! The noodles had a weird taste that I didn't like and couldn't identify, the shrimp tasted weird they had a different texture. The steak was bland and the rice and veggies were blah too. This was the first hibachi restaurant where there was paper towels folded as a cloth napkin should be and chopsticks not provided. To all. Save your money and eat elsewhere.

I took my girlfriend here two years ago for our first date. Between then and now the place has changed for the worst. I made reservations a week before valentines day for 5:15 knowing that should be early enough to beat the crowd and have good service. We show up about 10 minutes early and wait about 15 minutes for our table; no big deal. Then we wait, and wait, and wait. About 15-20 minutes go by before the waiter comes by to take our drink order. At this point it is a little irritating but easily brushed off. We order our drinks and an appetizer. About 15 more minutes go by and they drop off the soup and salad with our drinks. We ordered our food, the seafood special, and 3 sushi rolls. This is where the real wait begins because the appetizer and the sushi rolls came out in about 30 minutes but the seafood special did not. At this point the waiter just stops coming by our table. At this point, an older couple sat down and placed their order about 30 minutes after we placed our initial order. 30 more minutes go by the appetizer and sushi rolls are long gone but finally the seafood special comes out. 2 minutes later the couple sitting next to us receives their food one plate was an order of seafood special too. At this point I am pretty upset thinking to myself "i will just leave a small tip and a 2-3 star review on yelp" but it got so much worse. The seafood special is cold and that is the final straw. I ask to speak to a manager. The waiter comes back and tells me the manager does not want to come talk to me and told the waiter to handle it. If the manager does not care to see to a problem in their establishment then they do not deserve any more business.

Used to love this place but its gone down hill FAST over the last couple of years. I only order sushi there so to me to food is great, I don't know about anything else on the menu. However the service is AWFUL. If you're there on a slow day your waiter seems to go missing. If you're there on a busy day the wait staff will forget you/your request altogether. Because of this I had started calling in my order to go. Which really wasn't a problem until Friday. Its a holiday weekend so I didn't mind the 45 minute wait. I had to drive across town anyways. 50 minutes later, walk in, mention my order and was asked to sit at the bar. Nice lady but she forgot. 20 minutes later I ask someone else. They are having trouble finding my order. Finally after they ask me 100 questions I realize they don't have my order. I left disappointed, without sushi and looking for a new favorite sushi restaurant. Management is failing what used to be a great place. P.S. 1 waitress ran after me in the parking lot to see if I called the right location. I showed her my call log. Nice try lady.

This place has great food and the cooks for Hibachi are, for the most part, awesome. They even remember us whenever we come in now. Its a little pricey, but all Japanese steakhouses are. Of all of the ones around Woodbridge that we tried, this is by far the best for service and food. If you go to it during the weekday where they arent as busy, you tend to get more food also

We were avid patrons of TJSH; but this place has gone downhill in the past 3-4 years. Every time we go back, there are new cooks and wait staff. No one seems to stay there; and those who are there, do not seem very happy. The food used to be amazing, but now it's just o.k. I don't know about you, but paying $20+ a plate, you'd think the food would be better than just O.K. Even my beloved yum yum sauce (the white sauce) has changed. It's super sweet now. Yuck! There's always a wait because they want to fill each grill...I'm thinking there's a lack of cooks. I have given up on them and will not return...groupon or not. Such a shame. Was an amazing place...once upon a time.

This review is based on three visits over the course of a year. We sat at the hibachi tables twice and the regular table area once. All three times, the food has been very good. The meat is tender and flavorful, the side items (fried rice, vegetables, soup, salad) are always delicious and the portions are generous. Service really seems hit or miss. You are greeted by a friendly hostess on arrival and then taken to your table. After that, what is consistent is inconsistency. When we sat at the regular tables and ordered off the menu, service was slow the entire evening, but the food was delicious and prepared as we ordered. The first time we sat at the hibachi table, we had 8 in our party and they bent over backwards to provide great service (about a year ago). The show was full of energy and the cook was really engaged. Last night, it was just the four of us at the hibachi and service was lackluster. They even forgot to bring out the sushi rolls we ordered as an appetizer. We we're charged for them, and there was more than enough food, but it was the principle. The "show" was ok, but there was no enthusiasm from the cook like times before. Since there were only four of us at the table, is it possible it was dialed down? I would say this place is worth the visit. At the end of the evening, you are going to get a fantastic meal and everyone will leave full and satisfied. Bring patience (don't eat here an hour before your movie starts) and a doggy bag for the left overs.

Had a Groupon, food was expensive but delicious. Hard to stay under my $30 voucher amount (for 2), ended up paying a bit more. They were very busy and service was slow. But I think it may have been because of the holiday. I'll be back for a date night for sure. But I'll make sure it's a week night.

Sushi is a bust. Two slices of sushi that not only taste questionable but extremely small. Not bothering to even look this way again

Fantastic meal, well beyond the expectations that we had going in. Took a while for the chef to come to our table, but the tepenyaki show he put on was worth the wait! Lots of food, fresh taste, friendly staff. Can't wait to go back! P.S. - the sashimi I had was killer!

The inside was very spacious and slightly more upscale than Sakura located nearby. I came here for lunch and tried their salmon lunch box special. The lunch box includes your choice of meat and comes with salad, steamed rice, shrimp and vegetable tempura, and 3 pieces of California roll. The tempura came out hot and crispy. The salmon, though overcooked, was tasty and had a generous amount of teriyaki sauce on top. Food: 3 Value: 3 Service: 3 Overall: 3

Terrible everything the service was slow the food was bad. the fish was old and badly sliced. By far one of the worst sushi restaurants I've ever been to!

This place is amazing for couples or groups looking to have more than just a sit down dinner. The chefs here really make it a memorable experience and fun for all. We laughed, we were awed and amazed by the tricks our chef performed. Not only is the food delectable but the staff from host to waitress and chef are tip top. It's like having dinner and a show, that you're a part of!

BLUF A great experience for a weekday, spur of the moment meal. We were enticed by a Groupon which was valid for Monday through Thursday and left happy, even when the app wouldn't process the transaction in time for us to use it (argh!!!). Background The steak and scallops were perfectly cooked and the portions were ample. They even serve oodon noodles in addition to the rice, veggies and meat of choice. The meal also includes a couple (?) shrimp for the adults and chicken livers (ewww!) for the kiddos. We WILL be back again.

Not our favorite night out. It took the staff seven minutes to acknowledge us at the door. We were seated and waited twenty minutes with no service and then were moved to another table. Waited twenty more minutes for drink orders to be taken and ten more for them to arrive. Service was poor throughout the meal. Fried rice, veggies and my filet was good. Husband's steak, not so much. Son's chicken was tasteless and shrimp we all had very overcooked. Enjoyed the show the chef gave but other things really made it a hard evening. Also grill table wasn't very clean. Not a place we would recommend.

I went here today and ordered carryout sushi special. It was awful! The fish was not fresh, they tried to cover that up by adding wasabi paste in between the rice and the fish! The spicy tuna was terrible, almost no tuna, just spicy roe and cucumber. On top of all of that carry out prices don't include the salad, and the service stunk. I was greeted right away but the second I ordered I was ignored, I watched my food be prepared and then waited an additional 10 minutes before the server went to get it for me. There was only 2 other people in the whole place, no excuse for that.

In Prince William county and around Potomac Mills, you can find a multitude of asian buffets, Chinese carry-outs and Thai restaurants. But when it comes to Japanese fare, your choices are pretty limited. For the hibachi experience and great sushi rolls, the Tokyo Japanese Steak House is about as good as it gets around Woodbridge. They feature quite a few hibachi tables where the chefs can amaze groups with their spatula skills: chopping meat, balancing eggs and flipping vegetables amongst a dancing flame. A certain crowd pleaser that dazzles the children. This makes TJSH a great (albeit pricey) alternative for large groups and parties. The sushi bar stands in the center of the establishment and the chefs there are excellent in their work. Despite some less than stellar reviews mentioned by others, I've never had a bad sushi roll and the sashimi is cold, fresh and delicious. Another BIG PLUS for me is that they offer a FULL MENU of different kinds of sake. Finally, during the cold months try their udon soup...it's the best I've had in Virginia. The restaurant side has a variety of tables for all sizes and the ambviance is subdued despite the crowds on weekends. The waitress staff dress in traditional kimonos and the service I've experienced has always been average...nothing spectacular, but they get the job done. There is also a neat little gift shop in the front of the place that serves imported touristy type stuff that you might find in an airport in Japan. TJSH is the best Japanese restaurant that I've found in Prince William and offers free wifi, but it is located next to Potomac Mills and it gets crazy crowded on Fridays and Saturday nights. Another minus is that they have bizarre lunch hours and are not open all day long. Finally they are a little on the expensive side for ordinary dining.

I prefer TJSH over Sakura. I always get the chicken and steak hibachi and it is delicious every time! I would like to tell the owners that the outside of the restaurant should be brightened a bit. Last night we tried going to Cheesecake Factory and Olive Garden but they were packed. TJSH was not...I think it is because people do not know it is there and their windows are all tinted black. I think you would have more business if people could see the place is there and open. Anyway the food and service was on point. You have my recommendation!

Our first couple of trips into this restaurant were sub-par... but we kept going because it was so convenient. As of late, our trips have improved due to both an improvement in service staff and an overall increase in menu knowledge. All the fish I have tried has been really fresh and flavorful. Rolls are always great. And pretty reasonably priced. Have only ever done sushi/sashimi... never tried the hibachi side of the restaurant. Will continue to frequent this restaurant =)

I went to Tokyo Japanese Steak House on a whim since I was in the area and wanted some sushi. The people were very nice but at least for the sushi, they have very minimal options and the ones they have don't sound very appetizing. I got two simple rolls- california and spicy tuna. The waitress brought out some misu soup which tasted fine but had maybe 2 pieces of tofu- It was like someone already drank more than half of it. The sushi came out quickly but the spicy tuna looked like puke and the most simple roll, the california, tasted horrible. I don't know if the fish wasn't fresh or something but I only ate maybe 5 pieces of the combined rolls seeing as I started gagging. I wouldn't even give this place a second chance.

I came here on a Sunday after church to have sushi & sashimi & whatever else looked great. I ordered the Rainbow roll, Toro (fatty tuna), and 2 pieces of nigiri salmon. I was greeted right away and given a warm bowl of miso soup - traditional and tasty. I watched as my food was prepared and plated - beautiful! The rainbow roll was fresh - all the fish, roe and avocado. The size was a bit smaller than I am accustomed to but still tasty. The salmon was fabulous! Substantial cut atop perfectly prepared sushi rice. The Toro was fair - not the best quality cut, but worth ordering if you've got a taste for it. I was also presented with a complimentary hand-rolled piece of shrimp/crab. It reminded me of a summer seafood salad - it had mayo and sesame seeds along with a touch of rice wine vinegar. A nice touch. Overall, the price was good as was the sushi quality. A good local spot in Woodbridge for Japanese food.

Overall good place for hibachi. The soup was a tad watered down, but had okay flavor -- my toddler gobbled half of mine, so I won't complain since he's not a huge soup eater. The salad, which normally I don't touch because I'm not a ginger dressing fan, was great! And the hibachi was good, especially the added bonus of noodles along with rice, veggies, and entree. I got the chicken, and even though it could have used a tad more sauce, it was very well prepared and still juicy. I knocked off a star because the drink service was lacking a bit. Didn't try anything else on the menu (yet) but will likely return for the sushi and tempura.

I have been eating here for the last 2 years. To be honest, I never thought my favorite sushi would be from a restaurant in Woodbridge, VA. Yes, the service can be slow. Yes, they do not all speak English. Yes, it can take a while for your food to come out. But the sushi is AMAZING and totally worth waiting for. Super fresh, good sized pieces, melt in your mouth delicious. My fiance always gets filet and lobster hibachi and he has never been disappointed. We love this restaurant.

TJSH is the best place in Woodbridge to have a good sit down Japanese meal. Weather you sit at the big Hibachi grill or in the dining area the food and service are always great, they are extremely friendly. I usually get the sushi. My favorite one is a special called the Wasabi Roll which you have to write on the bottom of the sushi menu to order. It is amazing. Salmon, tuna, celery, roe, and rice all topped with the best part, the wasabi sauce. Pretty much all the sushi I've had there has been really good. My co-eaters sometimes order meals from the menu and from what I've seen they are very good and large portions. All the food is great every time I've been there. The atmosphere is very calming and serene, definitely a place you can take a date or your family. The one critique I would have to make if I was forced to is the newly changed ginger dressing on their salad isn't on par with a lot of other Japanese places, I preferred their old dressing. I definitely recommend TJSH to all food enthusiasts. It is the best place in Woodbridge to have Japanese cuisine that is accompanied with a great atmosphere and great service. It beats Sakura by a mile!

Among all the crappy chain restaurants by Potomac Mills is this Japanese sushi and teppanyaki place that is surprisingly decent. I did not have the grill but just the large sushi sampler platter with some friends. All were decent flavors and was a good variety of sashimi and rolls. Prices are a bit high to be expected for this sort of thing.

**2.5 stars** **Review is for Carry-Out only** My boyfriend and I were looking for a quick bite to eat near Potomac Mills and decided to try TJSH out for some hand rolls. Ordering was pretty difficult since I had to go through 3 different hostesses before one could understand English well enough to get my order... We got the SPICY SCALLOP, SALMON AVOCADO, and PHILADELPHIA hand rolls. The fish was decently fresh, but there was too much mushy rice and the seaweed wrapping was not crispy or salty enough at all. However, the inside of the restaurant is very roomy and nicely decorated. There are many Hibachi tables inside and it looks like a good place for large groups. I would give it another chance, but my first impression is only so-so!

Spacious, ambiance is okay. Service was good. Started out with sushi combination (above average). Steak and scallop tempanyaki also above average albeit a little greasy. There was nothing wrong with our experience but also there was nothing special. The prices were good. 3.5 star.

I supposed when I get on Yelp, its usually to compliment a great business. I should probably get on to criticize some of the bad ones too... This restaurant is about as good as it gets for sushi and sashimi! To prove what I say, to the true sushi connoisseur... all I have to do is mention that this place carries regularly - AJI. That's all I have to say. To the folks looking for the best rolls, this is not going to matter... :) Can't say enough good things to say about this place!

My husband and I ate dinner here tonight. We felt like having sushi and had never been to Tokyo Japanese Steak House. We decided to give it a try. The restaurant is nicely decorated and much larger than we had expected. The only downside was that the noise seemed to carry. It was a little distracting at first, but not enough to make us uncomfortable throughout the meal. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our waiter, Jin, was very nice and did a great job serving us. He even made a special dipping sauce for our tempura. We opted for the dinner boxes. I chose the beef teriyaki and my husband chose the salmon teriyaki. Each box came with soup and salad to start. We chose Miso soup which was very good. The salad was the standard iceberg lettuce with a ginger dressing that most Japanese places seem to serve but it was fresh and tasty. The boxes also came with a bowl of steamed rice, 3 shrimp tempura, 4 vegetable tempura, 4 sushi, 6 pieces of California roll and various edible vegetable garnishes plus our beef and salmon. It was a lot of food. The sushi was very good, especially the California roll, which is my favorite. The teriyaki beef was tender, flavorful and cooked nicely (medium rare as I requested). They did put on a lot more teriyaki sauce than I care for but I just scraped off the excess and it was fine. Next time I'll ask them to use less or put the sauce on the side. My husband's salmon was also very good and cooked well. Moist, not dry. We both agreed that the tempura was good but the batter is a little heavier than at most other places. So, if we're hankering for tempura we'll go someplace else but, If we want sushi and teriyaki, we'll go to Tokyo Japanese Steak House. Overall a pleasant and delicious meal. We will be back!

I am not sure why there are a bunch of bad reviews but I guess everyone's opinion is different. All I can say is what mine is. We were promptly greeted at the door when coming in and seated quickly. We started out with some sushi which was well prepared and plated nicely. Our hibachi Chef was well spoken and quite considerate of our little ones at the table. He prepared the food well and was even considerate of a food allergy that one of our guests had at the table. Our waitress was attentive on refilling drinks and retrieving anything we requested. The management was doing what they were supposed to do by checking in with us and asking how our service was. Overall the food was good, and I think this is a well deserved 5 stars for a first experience there.

I had lunch with my dad at this place yesterday. I have been before, but this time the place smelled like the cigar bar next door. I'm guessing this happens when they just open up or when the restaurant is slow. I almost left because the smell was super strong. Anyway, the food was good. My dad enjoyed his teriyaki chicken and I enjoyed my steak & shrimp off of the grill. We had a choice of soup or salad and a side of rice. The service from the kitchen was kind of slow, so I had to rush and get a box since I didn't have much time. This place serves quality food, so don't go expecting buffet prices.
