I was very excited to experience this place based on the reviews. When I walked in the interior was dated but immaculately clean. I was promptly greeted by a kind gentleman who actually came from behind the counter to take my to go order and review the menu with me. I ordered the falafel sandwich with sweet tea ($5.99) and French fries ($1.99). After about 10 minutes, the order was ready with a smile and constant re-engagement throughout the process. Now the food: The falafel the was perfectly cooked but lacked seasoning. The pita had the perfect soft, chewy consistency and the toppings (parsley, tomato, veggies and cucumber sauce) were all super fresh. The amount of parsley was a bit overwhelming for my taste. The fries were nothing to write home about--very bland but hot and fresh. I was able to doctor up the meal with the garlic mayo which was pretty tasty. Not the perfect falafel experience but the overall service and cleanliness were so refreshing that I will come back and just doctor it up with seasonings.

After reading some positive Yelp reviews for this place and realizing it was only a five minute drive from my hotel, I decided to check it out. We walked into an empty restaurant and were quickly greeted by someone who seemed to be the owner. He ran around the counter and quickly walked us through the menu. It all seemed a bit rushed, but it really wasn't the end of the world. He was very friendly and seemed very eager to help since we had never been to the restaurant before. Once we ordered our food (chicken shawarma and falafel sandwich) we just silently waited around while our food was prepared. We took the order to go and when I started eating I instantly regretted doing so. The chicken shawarma was super dry and definitely needed more sauce. My guy said his falafel sandwich was also dry. He also ordered lentil soup, which he took one bite of and immediately threw away. We also tried to split the baklava, but it was also really dry and just all around not good. Plus, the prices were high for what we got. We spent over $20 on food that definitely should have cost no more than $15. I was super disappointed by this place, but I think they definitely have potential. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the food is almost there.

Excellent, fresh, tasty, quality food and run by very friendly, genuine people. The next time you're tempted to pick up fast food go here instead. For about the same cost you can have a meal that's infinitely better, prepared by guys who are passionate about their craft.

Hidden away in a mostly empty strip mall, this place is a gem. I had the Jordan chicken wrap (kind of like a panini wrap hybrid) and the kibbeh, both were really flavorful and the sauces were made with fresh ingredients, I recommend the jalapeño mayo (no mayo flavor) it was my favorite. The owner was really friendly and helpful and it was a great deal (8$) for both.

Wonderful owners who are really great about explaining the different food items. You can tell they take a lot of pride in the food! We had the dip sampler with pitas and it was delicious and we had lots to take home. The chicken family platter was large and very good. The side choices are delicious and there are lots of options. Too full for dessert but they looked great. Check this place out!

We were exploring some dining options in Bon Air and saw that Toledo Chicken was the top rated restaurant in the area. Don't be swayed by the exterior -- this place is incredible! The owner was so friendly and walked us through the whole menu. We got the grilled chicken with Mediterranean rice, the chicken grilled wrap with caramelized onions, and a bunch of sides -- hummus, green beans, a creamy eggplant dip, and some dolmades. The chicken was so flavorful, the rice was delicious, it was all great! We were just so blown away by how good it was despite the nondescript location. Definitely recommend!

As the other reviewers note, the name doesn't convey the Mediterranean food - which is clearly and rightly the pride and joy of the owner. Don't let the name or strip mall location deter you! Very flavorful, well seasoned, veg and meat options. And cheap!

We were staying at a local hotel and were looking for a place that could handle our carnivores and vegetarians alike. Yelp suggested Toledo Chicken. To be honest, when we pulled in I wasn't sure we had picked well. The parking lot was empty and the place looked like a former fast food joint. We figured we were already there so we might as well find out what the fuss was about. So glad we did. For starters the owner met us at the door. Rather than hand us menus, he gave us a tour of the restaurant, explaining each offering with tempting details. Only once we were shown everything were we allowed to see the menu. The chicken is marinated for 20 hours and is amazing. The sides are generous, fresh, and very, very good. The prices are very reasonable. I honestly can't say enough about it. The restaurant has been open for five months but it felt more like we were guests in their home. The name is misleading. This is not some chicken joint. This is a Mediterranean restaurant that should not be missed.

Great restaurant and lovely owners! Grape leaves, pita sandwiches, appetizer sampler and baklava all delicious. So happy to have this place in southside.

One of the most diverse menus with respect to Mediterranean food I've ever seen. I really have nothing bad to say about the food or the service. The chicken is excellent and the Jordan wrap would be a killer food truck item. The owner is very friendly and proud (right fully so) of his restaurant. I hope others will visit and support this unique establishment.

Highly recommended. For the 5 stars I'm comparing this place against other nearby lunch options that cost about the same ($8-$12 pp). First, the staff (owner?) is very friendly. He explains the menu quickly but if you ask he will slow down and walk you threw it. The food is cooked while you wait but it doesn't take long. It was hot and tasted great. They offer complementary hot tea while you wait and it is very good. My bench seat was well broken in and not very comfortable. No biggie, I was in and out in 30 min. Over all it looks and feels like a local place, and it is. I got the two piece chicken with a side of Med. rice with the jalapeño dip with a drink for $8. Compared to what I get at nearby lunch spots it was a great deal and healthy. I will go back.

Our family stumbled across Toledo Chicken when driving around looking for a lunch place and we were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed the atmosphere and our meal. The owner walked us through the menu and gave great detailed descriptions of the available dishes and sides. We really enjoyed the kabobs with the Mediterranean rice - the jalapeño sauce and garlic mayo are a must-try! If you like Mediterranean cuisine, definitely give this place a try. PS - there are a few vegetarian options as well.

Delicious! First time here, and we were all pleasantly surprised. Having been to the other 'Mediterranean markets' in town, we can say this is definitely the cleanest and friendliest, and the food is without question the freshest. Service was amazing, the owner explained everything so well. We got a whole chicken (which fed 3 adults and 3 kids ), stuffed grape leaves (fresh, not too Briney), and a Mediterranean sampler which had hummus, fava beans, babba ghannoush, and mujadara. The hummus was creamy with lots of tahini which made for an almost cheesy flavor (in a good way), the eggplant in the babba ghannoush was nice and smokey, and the fava beans were out of this world. To sum up, we will certainly be back... Soon!

Your 5 step approach to eating here: 1. Don't let the outside scare you! It's an amazing clean little place in an older strip mall. 2. Don't let the name confuse you. Toledo is the name of the Spanish city where the owner's 600 year old spice rub has been passed down for generations. 3. Walk in with your mind wide open and admit you don't know anything about the food. The owners will walk you through everything and they have so much pride for their food. 4. Let them suggest what you try. I had the chicken and a side of Mediterranean rice and it was amazing. 5. Don't skip dessert! I had baklava Other tips, make sure you try a sampler platter. It was really good. Everything was reasonably priced. Huge plus it has options for vegetarians and no hormones added to chicken. My husband and I really enjoyed it and I plan on going back soon. Next time might order the whole chicken and two sides.... Defiantly looking forward to the rice and the eggplant again!

What is it with great restaurants in horrible locations? I have been on a roll writing reviews about places like this. Trust me, when you see Toledo from the outside, you might not want to stop in. I have been curious about it for quite some time, but was reluctant to go in until some of my favorite Yelpers wrote glowing reviews. It's a bit confusing...Is it Spanish food? Is it Mediterranean food? Let me answer that: It is pure deliciousness. The owners LOVE what they're serving. And when I say love, I mean love. They will describe in great detail how everything is prepared, what seasonings they use and the difference between food from Syria and Pakistan and everywhere in between. Here's my advice: try it. The hummus was delicious. The chicken shawarma was fabulous (I had never had it with Mediterranean pickles before). I consider myself a tabbule snob and consider the Mediterranean Bakery's tabbule to be the best around. The tabbule here was different from any other I have had and it was great. It had a hint of mint, with just the right amount of lemon, and not too many onions. The owner insisted I try it wrapped in lettuce leaves, so I did. My husband ordered the chicken that had been marinated for 19 hours and it was moist, flavorful and perfect. He also ordered a side of yucca. If you compare the yucca to Chicken Fiesta's, it is cut into smaller pieces with an almost panko breading. Although I skipped dessert today, they have a wonderful assortment of baklava, cookies, etc. I will continue to go to unattractive shopping plazas to find food this good!

I've been to Toledo Chicken three times and each visit was worthy of a five-star rating. I count myself lucky that it's only 5 minutes from home. My experiences have been similar to the others: the owner and staff were very welcoming and friendly and gave a culinary tour of the day's specials and specialties. It made me feel appreciated as a customer. My first visit was the famous Toledo chicken in the family pack to go, which includes a whole chicken with two sides. I chose the Mediterranean rice and Mediterranean salad. I knew it would provide at least 3 meals for me and it did. Can't beat it for $14. I'd read other reviews about the Jordan chicken wrap and the owner's description was enough to clinch the deal so I chose this for my second visit. I don't know if I can even describe it properly, but it's a flaky-ish dough filled with an incredibly flavorful spiced shredded chicken, accompanied with their dipping sauce. It's a knockout! For my third visit I went for the shawarma, which is as good as any I've had. I chose the eggplant salad as a side and I think it stole the show with its delicious layers of flavor. I could eat a big bowl of this stuff. I also tried one of their alcohol-free beers. I can't remember its name but it was quite good. So, to summarize, I'd wholeheartedly recommend Toledo Chicken. Great food, friendly and attentive service, very reasonable prices. The abundance of strong reviews should be enough to convince you to try it so please do. Honest restaurants like this deserve to succeed.

Let me start by saying the owner really couldn't be a nicer guy. If it wasn't for him, though, there really wouldn't be any reason to come here. The menu is confusing; like it's caught somewhere between a latin chicken place and a middle eastern cafe. I tried some of each, and the flavor profiles actually do compliment each other decently. I was much more excited about the middle eastern food, but it was horrendously expensive for the quantity, and the flavors were just okay. Plus, I thought I was getting 4 sauces to try with my pita, but it turned out he was only offering 1 of the 4 sauces, and he gave me about 1 ounce of it. The chicken was small, dry and lacking flavor. The set-up is also confusing. I felt awkward when I was trying to browse at the display cases, and at the end it was nearly impossible to get the owner's attention so I could settle up the bill. Like I said, super nice owner. I just won't be a customer anymore.

This is the kind of restaurant that serves food you can't get anywhere else and leaves you craving for more. If you're looking for authentic Mediterranean food this is the place for you. The Chicken Shawarma is the closest I have been able to find to doner kabobs found throughout Europe. The owner is extremely friendly and will explain every item on the menu. Prepare yourself for a hole in the wall, it's not a fancy pants place.

Went here with a Restaurant.com coupon, which they no longer honor, but decided to try it anyway. Glad we did. We went for lunch, and while it took over an hour to get through lunch (there were only 2 gentleman working- they're understaffed), it was worth it. I had the Jordan chicken wrap and my wife had the chicken sharma pita, and we had lentil soup and Mediterranean salad as sides. Everything was very good. Haven't had much Mediterranean before, but this seemed very authentic. One of the gentlemen took the time to take us to the counter and show us various dishes on display and explained what they were. That was a nice touch. We'll be back to try some different items.

This is the kind of restaurant I love to support. Whatever it lacks in atmosphere, it more than makes up for in good food and hospitality. The menu is varied and very affordable. My favorites so far: lamb kafta, kibbeh, baba ghanoush, hummus and the best baklava ever. The food is wonderfully seasoned and fresh tasting. It's perfect for lunch, carry-out or a casual dinner. I want to take everyone I know here and you should visit too!

Just came back from having lunch here, after finding this place on Yelp in the morning. Yes, the owner did take the time to explain and show all the menu items to us. We had actually made up our mind beforehand, but we appreciated the time he spent with us. I had the Jordan chicken wrap, since I never tried it before. It's filled with chicken and caramelized onions and tons of spices - at least that's how I would explain it. I really enjoyed it. I could have easily gone for the shawarma, but I felt it right that I mix it up a bit. I also had the garlic mayo to dip it in, which I would recommend. Don't let the mayo part scare you away. I also went with a side of the tabouleh, which was very fresh tasting. I enjoyed my meal. Husband had the chicken shawarma with fries. He has a tendency to eat the fries first, but he actually forgot them, and that's our way of knowing the main dish is tasty. We will be recommending this place to our friends because it's nice to try some new places, especially those that aren't big chains. I really appreciated the level of service and attention and I'm positive that's why the feedback about this place is so great. Plus, parking is a breeze and everything is rather inexpensive.

Went back for the chicken! Repeatedly! The labneh is amazing, the chicken is amazing, I don't even know what the super-garlicky eggplant stuff that isn't baba ganoush is called but it's amazing even if my breath afterwards is not...

As the owner of Midlothian's premier restaurant delivery service, ( MidlothianDelivered.com ), I take food VERY seriously. I've had Mediterranean cuisine. I've had chicken from those hole-in-the-wall Spanish restaurants. There are some good options around here, but none of them prepared me for Toledo. My girlfriend brought home some of their chicken for lunch one day, and I was blown away... I had to see it for myself. How could I, of all people, not know about this restaurant??? I walked into the restaurant a few days later without introducing myself, and started looking around. The owner walked up and ask if I had any questions, which I did... He was very knowledgeable about the food, as well as the health benefits of eating 'this' versus 'that', which is often overlooked in 'modern society.' I ordered lunch to-go, and my girlfriend, son, and I sat down to another stellar meal. As a final test, or perhaps a critique of an entirely new caliber, I sent my mother to try it. Little known fact: my mother has been known to shut businesses down with her 'reviews.' Her experience was as wonderful as both of mine - excellent service, super-friendly staff, and downright amazing food. Overall, I couldn't desire more from this restaurant, and I look forward to offering their food for delivery.

After driving by this place a few times and then reading all the positive comments, I had to try it. Walking in around 5:30pm, I expected at least a little dinner crowd, but there were no other customers around. Yes, the owner asked if this was my first time, and after saying yes, he went over everything in detail. It was a nice touch, though a bit much. Being a bit salesman like, and I sort of felt like I was buying a car, instead of looking for a good meal. As for the food, I had the chicken. It was tasty, but a bit chewy and felt like it had been sitting on the line for a while, so I gave it a two. Would have been higher if it was fresh! When leaving I wanted a little dessert so I asked about the Baklava sitting on the counter, and was told about all the different types. Sounding good, I picked one up to eat at home. Unfortunately, worse than the chicken, it had been sitting there for a long time. Tried a bite when I got home, and being too hard and stale, I threw the rest away. Truthfully, I was a bit disappointed. After reading all the great reviews, this place fell short of my expectations. I think the potential is there, but the execution is lacking. Overall, because of the owner's great demeanor, and the potential, I gave them a two.

The 9000 block of Midlothian has a cluster of really great ethnic restaurants and this is one of them. The chicken here is excellent and has a citrus marinade. I'm not a tea person but my friend reported that the tea you're provided when you arrive was delish. We enjoyed the variety of sauces and the refreshing dips. Very authentic and fresh. While we didn't have any, the desserts looked wonderful! Recommended!

I'm breaking my yearlong yelp silence to review this gem. Do yourself a favor and eat here. The owner is delightful and the food is great and extremely affordable. What the other reviewers have said are true! From the second we walked in the door we clearly seemed unsure as to what to order so we were talked through the menu and explained what everything is and what makes it special by the staff. It was our first time so my boyfriend and I ordered a variety of things to split. It was all delicious but our favorite must order again items were the baba ganoush- roasted eggplant so good and flavorful I'm already craving it again and the Jordan chicken wrap- chicken, onions and spices wrapped and pressed in a delicious pita. It comes with sauces too! We tried the garlic mayo and the jalapeño- sooo good, but real spicy so be careful! Go here. Eat great food. Experience excellent service. Enjoy a tremendous value. I promise you won't be disappointed by this Mediterranean hidden gem.

A friend recommended that we try Toledo Chicken and we're so glad we did! It was delicious, and it was immediately clear that everything was created with much love and care. We were greeted by the owner who was most helpful in walking us through the menu. After that, we actually decided to change our previously planned orders based on his descriptions. Truth be told, I wanted one of everything. (grin) We started with an appetizer sampler, containing 2 types of baba ghanoush, hummus and labneh, which was served with pita chips. The baba ghanoush was smoky and flavorful - my husband said it was so good it gave him chills! - and the hummus was so much more flavorful than any other I've had. The labneh was new to me but delightful in its bright, minty flavor. For lunch, I had the combo #1, which was 2 pieces of grilled chicken with the jalapeno sauce and a side of Mediterranean rice. My hubby had lamb kofta, sandwich style, also with the jalapeno sauce. The chicken was a touch on the dry side, but a slight dip in the jalapeno sauce was the exact thing to do... it enhanced without masking the flavor of the marinated, grilled chicken and elevated each mouthful. The rice was unlike anything else I've had - I actually brought it home to eat with tomorrow's leftovers. I mean, it's rice! But whoa, the spices and almonds made it so tasty. Hubby didn't say much about the kofta, but I can attest there was little more than a glop or two of sauce left on the plate and a big smile on his face once he finished. The service was friendly and the market was filled with goodies we plan to try when we make our next trip. I haven't seen any advertising for them, and I think they're really relying on word of mouth to grow their business. We will definitely return for another round!

This place is so awesome! Came in at about 9pm on a Sunday with my roommate and we told the woman it was our first time and she gave us a 10 minute journey through all their food explaining how it's made (all in house with fresh ingredients) and what seasonings are used etc. it was a great experience as the woman was very knowledgable, passionate and genuine. All of the food looked so good it was very hard to make a decision on exactly what to get. I ended up choosing the chicken combo and tabbule and my roommate got the lamb kabob sandwich. All of the food was excellent. I'm a bit of a tabbule snob (one of my dear friends is Lebanese and we've cooked authentic food with her grandma) and this tabbule was excellent! Once you've had handmade authentic tabbule you seriously can't eat store bought and I'm not even being dramatic there is that much of a difference and this place nailed the tabbule which I couldn't be happier about. I highly recommend this place very good tastes, and you can taste the fresh ingredients and love they put into the food!!

I've been to fancy restaurants where the food is subpar and overpriced due to the ambience and I have been to restaurants where the food is phenomenal but the location lacks character. Personally, I would prefer the latter. The food here is amazing and well priced. The owner its attentive and takes the time to explain the ingredients and preparation of the menu items to ensure that we made appropriate choices. We ordered the appetizer sampler, the family chicken meal and the three types of baklava for dessert (we rarely order dessert). We couldn't stop eating! The owner even gave us extra chips and pita for our unfinished appetizer and additional treats for our two children to take home. It's obvious that he wants return customers. We love supporting local businesses and we will be back!

This is a small place with a great variety of mediterranean food. The chicken is marinated and moist and flavorful. Enjoyed for lunch. Not sure about dinner and eating with plastic. Great for take out. Lights too bright for dinner. Food is awesome.

Whet here for lunch last week with the Hubs and were thrilled to find great Mediterranean food. Since it was our first time, the owner showed us all of the options available and offered us some free mint tea. We sat down and the hubs had the chicken shwarma and I ordered the beef shwarma along with some kebbeh and dolmas. The wraps were both delicious, but he was not lying when he said that I would love the kebbeh. One of my faves! One star deducted because we were not given soda cups with our order. Can't wait to go back and try the chicken!

Wow... so I ran across this place while searching Yelp today to find something new. I decided to try it out with m wife today... we weren't disappointed. I'm not sure why this place wasn't packed... it should be... you should go here now! Upon walking in, my wife and I both noticed how clean the place was, which is always a plus. There were two very friendly gentlemen there (I'm assuming the owners) One was grilling, and the other, upon finding out it was our first time there, gave us a breakdown of the entire menu, told us how the marinate their chicken, and grill it, told us about the side choices... it was almost like having our own personal concierge to this place! Now, their mascot and name may be a bit misleading, since its a chicken dressed up in a conquistador outfit, so most people would assume its of central American persuasion... wrong! Its Mediterranean and Spanish! Its also a very casual style place, with a cash register at the door, an open kitchen with the grill right in front, a very relaxed place. We started off with the family sampler of dips: Two kinds of baba ganoush (old style and new style) homemade hummus, and a yogurt mint lemon thing (I have no idea what it was called but it was delicious!) served with pita... cant wait to get back into that later tonight! The chicken... wow, after marinating overnight, they grill whole chickens... man, the flavors they develop, and they keep it juicy! The Mediterranean rice, with green chick peas and almonds was delicious... my wife can live with or without rice and she went back for seconds! After all that food my wife and I were full, but they have an array of Greek and Middle Eastern desserts that I will be back to sample. They also have Kibbeh and Falafel which I am excited to come back and try very soon! This place is awesome... I cannot wait to go back!

This place was a great find. We stopped to get chicken and ended up with much more! I got the hummus, baba ganoush and two more combo appetizer with pita. Yum. The chicken was excellent. Delicious yucca fries with garlic mayo and congrin rice. ( mixed with black beans. We also tried the grape leaves and a chicken wrapped in dough ( forgot the name ). Everything was fresh, flavorful and healthy! I will be back..... Often. Thank you to the great staff for explaining how everything was made and it's origin.

As I was reading the other comments I wondered I the manager actually cared that much. They did! I rate things like this, would I come back since I have many, many choices? Yep, for sure. Food was pretty good and not over filling and I love to eat. Give it a try and I think you too will enjoy the experience.

Mostly echoing other comments; my favorite items were the Jordan chicken sandwich (not sure that's the right name) and the eggplant, which was very good. The next time I go I'll get more vegetables. The hummus was not to my liking, but that is perhaps my fault. The main chicken dish was good, but I wouldn't say it exceeds other restaurants that have the word 'chicken' in the name.

Wow, what a gem! There are some authentic and special things going on in this place, which is just off Powhite pkwy on Midlothian tpk. Everything is homemade- hummus, tabouli, kibbeh, babaganoush. We had a Mediterranean sampler app, which is all made right there. You have your choice of ingredients, but we went with hummus, babaganoush, eggplant ( moutabel?) and a yogurt dip, all topped with a nice dark olive oil and paired with toasted pita chips. Just perfect. I have traveled in the Middle East fairly extensively and all of the flavors really brought me back - authentic dips, spices and ingredients that were all very fresh and flavorful. We went with a beef schawarma and lamb kofta pita, both were excellent. Wrapped in a thin pita bread, both had pickled vegetables, lettuce, tomato, and yogurt sauce and were the REAL DEAL. Great spices and flavors. What really makes this place special is the owner, who brought both of us up along the food line and explained each dish in great detail to give us some background on the ingredients, cooking methods, spices and options. This was just a really neat and warm experience, and I don't think he could've been any more welcoming. One other thing - there's some nice hot tea that is complementary with the meal I would recommend it to pair with your baklava ( which they have 5 or 6 varieties). Also- nice to-go selection: middle-eastern pita, salads, dips, etc.

We tried Toledo last night because of Yelp. We weren't disappointed. The chicken was tender, juicy and fell of the bone. the jalepeno sauce was the perfect compliment for me. I didn't really need more food but the owner/chef's description of the Jordan chicken wrap sounded extra great. We tried that too. He cut it into strips which we shared as an appetizer. Mmmm. Everything we tried was flavorful. We finished up with "Turkish Baklava". Also good. A good night. And the owner/chef (Bashar) does take lots of pride in his food. We sampled the tabbouleh. He said it would be the best we ever had. And he was right. I told him that I had been in Haifa recently. He asked if I had had their famous falafels. i did. He promised his were as good as Haifa. So that's what I'll try next time!

Visiting Richmond for work staying on Midlothian Drive and I found Toledo chicken last month. Returned to the area for work and had to go back to Toledo Chicken as the Jordan wrap is awesome. I finished up my meal with some wonderful baklava.

I am so happy to have a place like Toledo Chicken so close to home. Like others I was a bit fooled by the name. As someone who eats 95% vegetarian I wouldn't think to visit somewhere with "chicken" in the name. But alas! There is wonderful Mediterranean food here at Toledo Chicken. The falafel is delicious and the Mediterranean rice side dish is the best rice I've ever eaten. The owner is extremely kind and welcoming. I hope they stick around. My husband had their specialty chicken and said it was very tasty as well.

Lovely Mediterranean place. I tried it based on the Yelp reviews and I have to agree with everyone...it is top notch. The owner greeted us and made recommendations. WE shared the 4 piece chicken with Mediterranean salad and the stuffed grape leaves and the combo appetizers with 2 kinds of baba ganoush . Loved everything. I had the cucumber sauce as well and it was very good on everything. I hope they thrive. It was hard to decide what to get because everything looked so good. Will try some other items next time. I can't wait to devour my leftovers. I also plan on picking up a chicken dinner with sides after work sometimes.

Wow. Just wow. When I got their (lunch) a proprietor walked me through every single item they had for lunch (visually displayed in the case). I literally wanted to eat every one of them. I ended up with a hummus/three other item sampler dipping platter and some chicken Mediterranean grilled deliciousness. Run, don't walk, to eat at Toledo Chicken. NOW.

I found this place on Yelp and all the reviews are right on the money. The owner is super nice and the chicken was delicious. I can't wait to go back to try more menu items!

I went there 2 days ago, the food was great specially the chicken. I recommend their shawarmas they're tasty. The appetizers are so delicious, I took the big one with 2 types of babaghanouj, tabouli and lebnah which is the mediterranean/middle eastern virsion of sour cream. The owner was very kind an informative, he walked us through the whole menu and gave us some good recommendations. As for dessert don't forget kenafeh and baklava, they have three kinds of baklava, turkish, arabic and greek.

Great meal at a great price as well as friendly service. I love Mediterranean food so this was right up my alley. I had the chicken combo and yucca fries which were great. Try the baklava

Fantastic place in unassuming strip mall. The owner walks you through the menu. Sampler app was delish, dolmades superb. We will definitely be coming back to sample the rest of the menu.

We are visiting the area and were delighted to find this excellent restaurant. The owner is extremely knowledgeable and hospitable. He gave us a tour of the food and made recommendations. It was a fabulous culinary and intercultural experience.

If you value absolutely scrupulously clean restaurant, very friendly service combined with truly outstanding food, this is a must! Family oriented environment and very inexpensive while maintaining high standards. Clearly this business is run with pride and integrity.

My husband and I recently went for a late lunch on a Saturday. I'd noticed the business before and wanted to try it out. He had lunch there on a work day and couldn't stop raving about it - so we went together. Hands down some of the best Mediterranean cuisine I've ever had. You must get the chicken-it was so flavorful and juicy and the Tabbule was absolutely out of this world - along with the baklava. Rice was flavorful, perfectly seasoned and fresh. Also had the Mediterranean hot tea - delicious. Prices are extremely reasonable and portion sizes good. Also have to say that although I was eating out I didn't feel like I was eating unhealthily at all. Everything was fresh and flavorful and very wholesome. The owner is so nice and explained absolutely everything on the menu to me and service was extremely prompt. Restaurant is exceedingly clean and straightforward. The food is the attraction here - not atmosphere. We'll most definitely be back!

Really earns it's high rating. Owners really care, and are eager to tell you about their food and what is in it. They are offering fresh, marinated Lamb Chops with a side and a drink for $12! They offer 3 kinds of Baklava - Syrian, Turkish, and traditional Greek. EV Olive Oil is prominent in their various dishes. Complimentary tea is on-hand. Tabbouli is chock-full of fresh parsley. Take the Bulgar rice side (i forget the name) home for lunch tomorrow and ask why it is such a super food, you will be very glad you did!

A little gem - though you would never know it from the name or the location. Don't let either deter you! This isn't a midwestern rotisserie joint, but rather a mediterranean/middle eastern restaurant run by a passionate cook/owner. They do in fact have an amazing roasted chicken (but prepared with their secret sauce/ingredients), but so much more. We ended up trying many different items, some unfamiliar, some old friends (much of the food is on display, and the owner takes pride in presenting the choices). Would also be a great place to take home some interesting dinners if you don't feel like cooking. If you like "original" and "authentic" dining, try this place.

Unbelievably great experience. The owner was so sweet, informative, and passionate about the food (and his customers!) He took us down the cases and explained what each item was in detail (the spices, the texture, country of origin). We were so blown away by his hospitality! We ended up getting a Mediterranean/middle eastern feast (we just couldn't decide...) We ordered 1. Mediterranean sampler: hummus, baba ganous, eggplant dish, and Greek-style green beans. 5 stars for the eggplant/green beans, 4 stars for baba ganous, and 3.5 for hummus (needed more salt and lemon). This came with chips. 2. Tabbule: 5 million stars!!! So fresh. Wouldn't change a thing 3. Jordanian chicken wrap: 4 stars. Such a unique flavor combination, but so good! 4. Beef shawarma: 4.5 stars. Perfectly marinated beef with a creamy, refreshing sauce. Oh baby, so FRIGGIN good! 5. Fried yucca: 5 stars. Crispy on the outside, soft, light, and flavorful on the inside. Ah so good! 6. (Last thing, I promise) Syrian and Turkish baklava. 5 stars. The Syrian baklava was more taffy-like in texture, and the Turkish was creamier and denser. I loved the Turkish best. I will be back just for some more of these bad boys. We took the cheese katay home with us to try tomorrow. One of the best culinary experiences of my life. So so so so glad I came. I'll be back again and again...and again......and again.

Great food! Really good prices. It is worth a visit. It looks just like a Spanish chicken place from the outside, but they have other Mediterranean dishes, as well. I've had the standard chicken combo, which was excellent. I've had the chicken shawarma and plan to try the beef and lamb next time. Also, the lentil soup was amazing.

I want to start by saying I walked into the front door in the place look clean and inviting. I was greeted by the owner who asked me if this was my first time here. I told him yes and he continued to explain the meals and the side items in the different ingredients and the different aspects of Mediterranean cuisine I got the chicken in the Mediterranean rice combo. I also picked up an eggplant side and taboe to go the food was amazing. To be greeted by the owner and treated with such care was amazing. I am definitely going back. I recommend this place highly.

I was visiting my son who lives in Richmond and we decided to try a new Mediterranean place. As mentioned previously we saw the good reviews. Well as we walked in, the place seemed empty. We weren't sure we should stay to eat. BUT a delightful gentleman greeted us with such enthusiasm and a private tour of the fresh food they offer.(assuming he was the owner) We decided to stay and give it a try. After all, it was clean, welcoming and inexpensive.. Well, what a nice experience! The food was yummy! My favorite was the homemade hummus with pita and my son loved his (secret sauce marinated) beef sandwich wrap. We were offered to try the hot tea for free, we really aren't hot tea people but we tried it, so glad we did, very delicious! My son cant wait to go back and take his girlfriend to try more food on the menu. The roasted chicken on the grill looked mouth watering and fresh Kebabs on display in their refrigerated cases looked wonderful...btw: they had marinated Lamb, beef and chicken with huge chucks of fresh veggies ready to cook on their grill. Please people give this place a try,You wont be disappointed. Lets keep these locals in business.Next time I come to town I hope to see this place packed.

Very fine mediterranean cuisine. We had the the grilled chicken. Delicious! Sides of rice and fried sweet plantains. The owner is friendly and helpful in explaining the dishes. Very clean and neat. Why he calls it Toledo is a mystery!

I've gone here twice this past week. I've avoided this place for 2 months because Toledo Chicken didn't sound appealing. I'm not a huge chicken fan and thought it was just another gimmick where everything was chicken. I never ventured in because I never saw anything outside of it advertising what kind of food they had. I checked them out on Yelp and was surprised they were Middle Eastern/Mediterranean. My first visit I was asked if it was my first time there. I was shown everything they make and told in detail the ingredients and how they make it (thought that was a nice touch). I ended up getting the 2 piece chicken (very tender, on the grill but not like a rotisserie chicken) wrappe in a pita with a mediterranean salad (crisp fresh green pepper, tomato, red pepper I believe, olive and pepperoncini. Best part was the $7.99 family style appetizer sampler (see photo on here someone else posted which is what I came for). Amazing. Comes with pita. I was told it would stay in refrigerator 10 days, but it was gone in 2. Manager told me if I didn't like anything to call him. I do believe he meant it. I came back today and got 2 more trays of the family style appetizers to-go. I noticed some deserts in the case to the right I'll ask about next time. They also have kabobs (beef, lamb, chicken) and a full menu. Don't let the name turn you off! UPDATE: Falafel pita with everything is very good.

Second visit, and food was just as good if not better tried Syrian baklava and it was very good. They have Greek, Syrian, and Turkish. The grilled chicken was moist and full of flavor. The Mediterranean rice was delicious. Definitely come check this place out!

Very good food. Owner went through the available selections before we ordered and thoroughly explained the options. Free hot tea was some of the best I've had to date. Everything was fresh and tasty. I will be frequenting this spot often going forward. Toledo chicken does not explain the depth of this restaurant at all. Loved it!

Love this place. I've had quite a few of their items, and I can say everything is fresh and made with care. The owner is polite and helpful. I've been waiting for some food diversity in the Midlothian area, this is a great addition. Try the Jordan Chicken Kabab, it's great, as is their grilled chicken. Always get the extra sauces, Garlic, spicy pink, Hummus, Jalepeno, these really add to the great flavors.

The owners of this place obviously take pride in their work, and it shows -- both in the time they took to describe the menu and in the food itself. I tried the chicken, beans and rice, and fried yucca, and all were superb. Don't overlook this spot because of the unassuming location.

The experience of going to this locally owned business is extremely memorable. The owner and staff take a hands on approach to familiarizing you with their menu. This personable approach is enhanced by the great quality of the food. The chicken is tender and well seasoned. Also like another reviewer has said, you must get the jalapeno sauce!

If this is what people consider 5 star food then you need to get out more. Normally I'd say this is a 2 but the owner is very pleasant, as others have mentioned. The food was OK and prices are pretty good, but I was in no way amazed by anything. In our group of 4 we each got different things. The person who got a 4 piece of chicken is the only one who left not still hungry, although he said the chicken was pretty dry. The rest of us all thought our food was good enough but nothing special. The yucca has too much breading on it and are very thin pieces, I'd take Chicken Fiesta yucca any day of the week over that. The efficiency in this place is definitely lacking. It took almost 20 minutes after ordering to get our food during Friday lunch and we were the only ones there at first. This does not make sense for a place where you order at the cash register counter. Instead of having one guy take the order and another cook, one guy seemed to take the order of everyone in line, and then eventually gets around to cooking, and then the other guy kind of just walked around explaining dishes and sort of helped with cooking on and off. They spend too much time explaining the menu so that could easily be simplified. A single day with a restaurant consultant would do wonders for this place. The confusion with the name shows they don't know what they want to be, and it shows throughout. The owner, while very pleasant, almost acts as if it is an upscale dining place where he needs to touch every table, but in reality they are set up better to be a quick service fast casual restaurant where you can pick up your food at the counter and take a seat. It is just a strange experience.

Lots of options, high quality ingredients, and very friendly service. It's not really in my neck of the woods but I would definitely urge you to try it if you like rotisserie chicken, Mediterranean food/Middle Eastern flavors. There's something here for almost anyone.

I drive by this place everyday and keep meaning to try it. It was excellent! There were four of us and we were all trying each other's meals. The owner was so friendly and talked us through the whole menu. When he recommends the chicken, get it!!! The kabobs were excellent as well as the tabbuleh and spinach pie. I hope this place succeeds!

Great food, very friendly owner who will orient you to the menu and help you decide. We didn't know, but the owner explained that Toledo is a city in Spain that is famous for this style of chicken that is marinated for 24 hours. Really delicious. They also have a lot of items you could take to go that would be perfect for a picnic, like hummus, pita, and veggies, plus lots of Mediterranean desserts, like baklava.
