This little hole-in-the-wall spot is ridiculously good! If you like good soul food, you'll love it here! My mom is an amazing cook, and it tasted like going to her house, except even more Southern (for those who don't know, that means a bit more sugar and veggies are cooked longer). Nothing was overcooked, everything was perfectly seasoned. Even the cakes were amazing! You would never know that such goodness was inside this old building. The place is a bit small, but larger than you'd think, because it is very long. The building is older and could use some updating, but they are very sanitary. I was a bit disappointed in the state of the bathroom, which needed plumbing work on the sink, but again, everything was sanitary. The buffet attendants all wear gloves, and they serve you, which means no grimy paws on your food and no kids poking their fingers in it. Phew! Thank goodness! I usually hate buffets because they are a sanitation nightmare, but this restaurant has taken out all of the icky mystery because you know exactly who handled the food all day, and they all had gloves on. Yay! Customer service was excellent! The waitress was super on-the-ball, but never intrusive. She just took care of things efficiently without being at all intrusive or overbearing. The owner was so kind, sincere, and welcoming. When you walk in, you might be a bit confused, but once you sit at the table, you're treated like family. I tried this place out per my dad's recommendation after he tried the Saturday breakfast buffet for around $8. My dad is a very discerning diner, when it comes to soul food, and he raved about this place. I had the lunch buffet for about $12. It was soooooo freakin' good that I couldn't stop talking about it! The corned beef and cabbage was wonderful! It was soooo well-seasoned that I can almost taste it now! The green beans were delish, the potato salad was the bomb--sweet and tangy with the perfect zip! I am gluten-free and also not the biggest meat eater, so I honestly loaded up on tons and tons of veggies. They were amazing! That chicken and gravy, however, was quite tempting, as were the buttery rolls and cornbread that was calling my name! So far, this is the one of the best soul food spots that I know of in the city. Yes, right up there with the place just up the road, but without the ridiculous wait. The church crowd swarms in right at 1PM, but the wait isn't crazy. The price is very reasonable. For just $12, did you know that you even get a homemade dessert? I'm talking 5 flavor pound cake, people!? If you haven't heard of it, it's time to get schooled! I could look at that cake and see that it was good like my mom's. Mmmmm mmmm!! The food here is five stars, without a doubt, but the interior is a bit behind the excellent quality of the food. If you have never been to Send-a-chef, you're missing out, and it's time to put that date on your calendar right now! I am always a big cry baby about catering or eating out on holidays, but next time, they can send that chef right my way!

Best hole in the wall place in Richmond so far...its one of those hidden gems you brag about that you take credit for finding. The price of the food is so good...its enough for you to come back everyday but thats not even the best part of it. Homecooked Soul food that actually touches your soul...YES...its that good! The service was awsome...everyone that walked-in knew the staff well...thats always a good sign! The owner Frank even came out to thank us for stopping by and gave us all complementary Grandmas pound cake for dessert...that was delicious...thanks Grandma! So what im really trying to say is....when in Richmond...this is a must stop!

Delicious Food at a Great Price ! I Ordered the Whiting Fried fish plate w/ my 2 sides and cornbread came out to $7.50 ! The fish was seasoned and fried perfectly ...my chosen sides were mac&cheese & cabbage both were quite tasty the cabbage was slightly on the salty side but still delicious so happy this place is in the neighborhood !

The fried fish & chicken reminded me of my moms cooking. I did take-out but after I finished I was wishing I'd done sit-down and enjoyed the buffet. The fried chicken was like mom fried it at home. A soul food buffet at its best. I will definitely be eating here again. Soul food at its beat.

One of the best soul food places I've visited with a local touch. Send-A-Chef is right in the middle of the small Manchester community, and offers great soul food for an amazing price. I had the ghetto burger, and my friend had the catfish, and everything was delicious. The service was fast, and it was fun seeing local history up on the walls. My burger tasted fresh, was thick, and grilled to perfection with just a slight bit of pink (perfect for me), the sides were homemade, and the cornbread was on point! I wish I could have gotten every special, the pork chops looked particularly good. I will definitely be revisiting for takeout during lunch hour, or dinner with friends. It was extremely affordable, a hole-in-the-wall with charm, and the food was just like grandma's cooking. Many many options.

My friend and I ended up at this place by happenstance and weren't really sure what to expect. The location on Hull Street is great--it's close to a library and a few local shops. This part of Hull Street is very cute, but I was sad to see that many of the buildings were vacant. Send-A-Chef doesn't look like much, but don't underestimate it based on the decor. There are several tables and a diner-like bar. It also has a lot of posters up detailing the history of some local high schools, which I thought was a really nice personal touch. It was pretty quiet during lunchtime, but there were a few other people in the restaurant. They served us some great soul food! My friend ordered their signature item, the Ghetto burger, and was absolutely raving about the perfect combination of flavors and well-cooked beef. I enjoyed a delicious bowl of macaroni and cheese and some of the best cornbread I have had in a while. It was so sweet, soft, and buttery--it practically melted in my mouth. Our waitress was really friendly, and she was great for her first day on the job!

Definitely a great place to stop in if you want some good tasting soul food. Seasoned to perfection! The few times I've stopped in, I have been thoroughly satisfied with what my order. The best mac and cheese and cornbread ever.

Every time I visit this restaurant , I am blown away by how great the food is for such low prices. My personal favorite is the fried shrimp dinner. It's so good! Also, when you visit make sure to get the signature pound cake!

Today I and two friends had lunch at Send-a-chef. The atmosphere was inviting, the staff welcoming and the food was excellent. I selected the fried chicken with baked beans and potato salad. My friend had the seafood with collards and potato salad. Both of us had the best cornbread in Richmond. The potato salad was betters than Sally Bells. Since I am a pretentious consumer of Chicken Salad, our waitress brought me a sample and by FAR it was the best in Richmond. I left full and very satisfied after lunch today

I agree with the previous posters that this a really good hole in the wall Soul Food spot. If you don't look closely, you may pass it up. I ordered the Whiting dinner with greens and mac and cheese. The Whiting was crispy, but not overcooked, it was just right. The greens were well seasoned, and mac and cheese was very good. If your in the area, check it out. I think you'll enjoy it.

Employees are extremely hospitable! Ghetto burger is huge and savory! And favorite part was the honey bun cake- made in house! And way underpriced! I highly recommend!!
