Mosaic is an amazing choice for a lunch get together or a romantic dinner. The food has big flavor but is thoughtful about the calories and ingredients. Its an upper crust establishment, but they are flexible enough to allow me to ride up on my mtn bike and sit on the patio after a long ride. The big question is this place is a mile from my house, why don't i eat here more? There unsweetened tea has a floral/fruity addition that elevates it like my grandmother's. Today i had the life cakes made of black beans, with edamame hummus, feta, baby spinach, and some yogurt sauce. Awesome combo.

I recently came here for lunch on a beautiful Friday. My group choose to sit inside, but they had plenty of outdoor seating as well. I would describe the type of food as new American but with a southern flair, so menu items ranged from fried green tomatoes to salmon to panini's. I had the edamame hummus as an appetizer, which I loved. It was light enough that I was still hungry for my entree, but definitely substantial in size. I split the turkey and Brie panini and the MCC salmon with a friend, and we loved both. We appreciated that our waitress returned often to refill our drinks. I was glad we warned her that we were in a bit of a time crunch because I've heard the service can be quite slow since everything is obviously made to order and it's a busy place. We spent about an hour there for lunch and enjoyed the atmosphere. Despite its location far from my hotel, it's very conveniently located in relation to the University of Richmond campus.

Yes. The dreaded one-star review. I am not playing. The catered lunch we received from Mosaic today was simply unacceptable. One of the vendors that my employer works with wanted to treat our office to lunch, and gave us free reign to choose whatever we wanted. The staff decided on Mosaic, which, from their menu at least, sounded fantastic. For the money that was spent, the quality of the food (and the presentation) was shockingly disappointing. The "elegant combination platter" of cold chicken nuggets, stale pita, mayo-heavy corn "dip" and dry-as-a-science textbook ham biscuits tasted off, and arrived spilled completely off of their serving platters, on their sides in a bag. A dessert plate intended to feed up to 12 people had four cookies and three chocolate truffles, none of which were even the desserts initially requested. The faces and sounds of dismay around the table this afternoon were, at least, comical. And that is the only good thing I have to say about the experience. In summation: Mosaic is one of those traditional, old-school Richmond places that rest on their laurels as something "nice", when in fact it is sub-par. I've had better food from a grocery store hot bar. Shame on you Mosaic.

Mosaic is probably one of my favorite places to eat in Richmond. I have never had a bad meal or bad experience here. The staff is always super nice and accommodating, even when we have shown up without a reservation during the busy weekend night hours. I have never had a bad meal here but I have to say the Signature Pasta is by far my favorite dish. I don't get it very often, but every time I do, its AMAZING. The Charleston Chicken Roller wrap is also really good, and my usual go to. I always switch my side to whatever the vegetable of the day is, and I'm never disappointed. In addition to the amazing restaurant, they also have a great catering service. My best friend's used Mosaic to cater their wedding a few years ago, and it was some of the best wedding food I have ever had. If you are looking for a place to cater an event, I strongly recommend you look at Mosaic. Their wedding was in the fall, and one option they had was a butternut squash ravioli. It was amazing. And the bacon wrapped sirloin appetizers were a fave for everyone.

Service is always excellent here! Mac and cheese is wonderful. I'm not crazy about the brunch menu, but dinner is awesome! Does sriracha honey chicken is delicious beyond words!

Where to start. Pimento hush puppies expertly prepared. Followed by Watermelon Prosciutto Shrimp salad with champagne vinaigrette. This incredible meal was completed with the light and fluffy lemon sponge cake. Spectacular!!! Kudos to the chef.

Came here for dinner with the folks after a long drive up from Charlotte on a Sunday night, and I was impressed with the quality of the food and the service. My folks had arrived about ten minutes before my girlfriend and I did, so they were seated already. Beer selection was good, if a bit pricey - I ordered the COTU Chin Music (the official beer of the Richmond Flying Squirrels). We took a bit of time in ordering as we were catching up, so I cannot comment too much on the supposed slowness of the service, but the waitress we had was attentive, brought water (including hot water with lemon for my mom) and bread. Only knock against her was that she did not know the beer on tap as they had just changed the keg and had to go and check. Anyway, food-wise, we tried the spring rolls (Julie G posted a good photo of this appetizer, four rolls split into halves, so eight pieces total), and I ordered the scallop special. The three scallops were large, tender, and tasty, and the risotto was well flavored and filling. I quite enjoyed the sauces they had artistically put on the plate, and was overall very pleased with the meal size and quality. My girlfriend got the pita crab cake, and I tried a bite. The only downside there was that the sauce was a bit overpowering and a bit too spicy, but taste of the crab cake was good, and there was lots of meat. Would definitely recommend giving Mosaic a try if you are in the area and looking for good new American food!

A few of my girlfriends and I try to meet up for lunch/dinner each month, at a different location. None of us had visit Mosaic so we were excited to give it a try. The "girls lunch out" atmosphere was exceptional. We made reservations and they were very accommodating for us 8 ladies. The food was delicious and filling, not too much but just enough. Mosaic will definitely go on the list as one of our favorites.

Food was really delicious. I wasn't expecting to be that satisfied, but it was actually very very tastey & delicious. The atmosphere was nice as well. It wasn't too crowded on a Sunday, when my husband and I decided to have brunch. Father's Day, no less. The drinks was a little watered down, but it was the afternoon. I was very impressed with the service. The waitress was polite and efficient. She listened and she came to the table often to ensurw we were happy with everything. I will definitely come back soon. I was pleased enough to show off to my friends.

I went with a group of friends.. about 8 people for brunch. Apparently when I go anywhere in Richmond, service just automatically becomes horrendous. My friends who live in the area said that the restaurant wasn't typically as slow as it was that day. It seemed like all other tables had servers that were way better than the one we had. Some of the other tables of 6 people or so got there after us and left before us! We weren't provided water, in fact, the waitress left the water pitcher of water at the table next to us forgetting to pour the water for us for 10 minutes so one of my friends went over to get the water. We also weren't provided the little starter biscuits for us that apparently everyone loves there. I ordered the crab cake benedict -- one of my yolks was cooked all the way through and the other one was cooked halfway through, I had a side of the mac and cheese which was under seasoned and kind of watery. My husband had the lowcountry breakfast sandwich and grits. The sandwich was only lukewarm when we got the order and the grits was probably the best part of the meal. Overall, I would give it another try, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back.

Sorry, don't see what the big deal is. Stopped in for breakfast over the weekend, not impressed. Service was decent, quick attentive but two eggs, bacon and fruit - all tasted very "catered". Eggs scrambled with cheese (no cheese) cold and nothing fancy. Bacon was cold and tasted like the precooked variety. The fruit side was horrible, seriously like it was wine. The fruit was so old and rancid I could make wine, jail house variety. Maybe I will try HH or dinner before I totally forget this place, but I was really disappointed.

I absolutely love this place. The last visit was for my birthday dinner. The staff was very attentive and tried their best to accommodate my large party. What I wanted wasn't on the menu ,but the waitress advised the chef that it was my birthday and he prepared it especially for me. I don't have anything bad to say about this place.

Mosaic. Great food. Various options for various diverse eaters. Mosaic has become one of my new favorite restaurants recently. Great for groups because of it's diverse menu range. They have super fit healthy options: Faro salad with edamame and almonds. Rich and buttery option not to be missed mac and cheese. They know it's delicious and they know it's famous - get a side dish if you just want to try it! Each time I'm there, all the people I'm with are pleasantly surprised with the creative dish and happy with the taste, delivery, and portion. Atmosphere is pleasant with colorful glass and vibrant colors. 80's music was playing at brunch. Patio seating available. Parking lot - not to worry about parallel parking! I've been for brunch, dinner, restaurant week, and a few of their catered events. Overall, Mosaic is great for girlfriends, boyfriends, families, and celebrations. Do celebrate by getting their indulgent cookie for dessert!

My food was incredible! Both the spring rolls appetizer and my entrée. To attempt balancing out the deep friend amazingness, I got the Fit MMC Salmon dish as it looked both healthy and tasty, and it most definitely was! Also with these "low calorie" menu options I'm always worried it won't fill me up, but it was so rich and packed with protein I could barely finish it and stayed full the rest of the day! Atmosphere is solid (unless you're not a fan of Kate Spade purses of course), well-spaced seating, good color scheme and lighting. Our waitress was a little pushy as far as coming back constantly to see if we were ready to order/get more food/get dessert/etc, but not too bad.

I love this place for Sunday brunch it is one of my favorite places in Richmond. I always tell my coworkers if they want a great Sunday brunch go to Mosaic. I have never had bad food here or bad service both have always been very good. I'm not in Richmond anymore but when I come for a visit and I hope it's on a Sunday I will defiantly come back here

Let me tell you about the meal I had last night! We started with the Bicycle Spring Rolls, Mini Crab Cakes and Smoked Gouda Mac & Cheese. The mac & cheese just needed a bit of salt and pepper, but it was delicious! The crab cakes were good, and the spring rolls were also delicious! Both were accompanied with dipping sauces that were perfect complements. For my entrée, I got the pan seared wild salmon with broccoli and stone ground grits. It probably wasn't the best I'd ever had, but it was still good. I had a bite of my friend's Mosaic Signature Penne Pasta with shrimp, and it was quite tasty. I also had a bite of his peach cobbler a la mode. I'm not a fan of cobbler, but it was yummy. My martini was perfect. Service was great -- they just incorporated electronic order taking via device similar to an iPad mini, so the order is placed immediately, and the bill can be settled quickly. Décor is a fresh, light green palette with Chihuly-inspired art indoors, and there is al fresco dining if you choose. Thumbs up, Mosaic!

Stopped by for a desert on a Friday night and was very disappointed. Atmosphere was non existent. We went for the chocolate orange gluten free cake - taste less, dry and covered in awful strawberry jelly. We asked for it to be taken off the bill it was that bad. The green tea cheesecake was average but edible.

OK but not great. It is definitely a ladies who lunch or dine type of place, filled with faux Chilhuly glass pieces along the walls and light fixtures. The menu was not all that exciting but it did have a number of gluten-free options that my dining companion was happy to see. For dinner, I started off with an appetizer version of their Life Cakes, small black bean cakes served with a slightly spicy dressing and pickled jalapeño. It was tasty. For my entree, I opted for Shrimp and Grits. It was less impressive. More soupy than I am used to or expected. The service was friendly and polite but a tad on the slow side. Perhaps they were understaffed for that evening as they did have 2 very large parties in the house. Overall, I had a nice evening with my friend. But with so many other dining options in Richmond, I am likely to move on to try somewhere else.

Nice outdoor area. Everything we had was great. Three things that really stood out were the fried Green tomato app and the salmon fish taco special were very good. The turkey bacon sandwich was other worldly. Amazing.

Really loved this place...I went here last week for a first date and the awesome food helped for a good conversation. I had the salmon and substituted my grits for salmon. My date had the Angus burger (medium well) which he said was good. The waitress (Robyn) was so pleasant and upbeat. The dress code is mixed however i would say dont be intimidated by the people standing outside. This is also a good place for a bday dinner. The bill was under 60 (yes I peeked) which is not bad. I will be going back.

Ambiance and service is wonderful. Menu is small with a diverse variety so if you are looking for more of a standard choice or dish this is probably not restaurant to try. Food was good and above par with a more expensive price. Dinners do not come with a salad or soup and portions are ok but not overly generous. We had the mac and cheese and was creamy but not bursting with flavor, Sriacha chicken and man and cheese was ok but again not over the top. I would return for a drink at the bar with friends, but probably not have dinner here.

Yum, their Lobster Mac and Cheese is to die for. We've always had a good experience with service, the atmosphere and excellent food. Highly recommend for a date night out. Not sure we'd take our children here, a little too "Fancy".

Would I come back here again? ABSOLUTELY! The atmosphere was wonderful - my boyfriend and I felt a little under dressed in nice jeans and nice shirts, but the staff was absolutely wonderful about it. I mentioned it to the hostess and she looked at us, giggled, and said we were dressed perfectly. I know this doesn't seem like a lot, but it meant a lot to me; friendly staff is always a plus. We were 30 minutes early for our reservation for Richmond Restaurant Week but they sat us right away! We were looked at the drink menu and the waitress was right there getting our drink orders. She was nice, friendly, helpful with the menu, and seemed to really know the restaurant (she stated that the head chef from The Jefferson had just moved over to Mosaic to cook there - YUM!!!). About 10 minutes later, after talking with our wonderful waitress and receiving our drink orders, we put in our food order: First course: roasted peanut humus and smoked porchetta toast Second course: herb braised boneless beef short ribs and lobster mac and cheese Third course: pumpkin tiramisu and roasted pear tart Between the two appetizers, I think the toast was definitely my favorite. The humus was definitely tasty but the toast won this round. As you can see in the picture was plated wonderfully and the taste was just out of this world. The home-made cheese was perfectly blended and tasted good without being overwhelming. The humus came with house made chips and some pita bread - both were quite tasty and accompanied the humus very well. The main course was a closer competition for me - but in the end, the ribs won. I can't even begin to describe to you the first bite into this dish. The meat was tender and flavorful, the potatoes weren't lumpy at all and the ratatouille.... there are no words. The seasoning was absolutely perfectly done and the vegetables were cooked but not soggy even after being under the mashed potatoes. The flavor of this dish was just phenomenal. I felt like I was tasting something from Master Chef! The lobster mac and cheese was definitely a close second. The best part about this meal, other than the lobster of course, was that they had black truffles halved in the mac and cheese! Usually I see black truffles in little bits as a garnish but they had those tasty little mushrooms mixed in there! The dish was wonderfully presented and tasted even better. The picture can't do it justice. The dessert was also very tasty. I'm not a huge fan of sweets so I ordered the pear tart. The most wonderful thing about this tart was that it was sweet but not too sweet and the little bit of tartness blended perfectly - it reminded me of the European style sweets I'd get in Germany. It was definitely a perfect ending to the night. The pumpkin tiramisu was also good - it was a bit rich for my pallet, but my boyfriend is in love with it. There was a good amount of apple brandy mixed into the bottom of the mason jar. It was very tasty surprise! As I said before, I'd absolutely go back again to try their other menu items. This place has definitely earned their spot in RVA.

I went with a group of friends for restaurant week. We ordered the salad as an appetizer and enjoyed the combination of the dressing and the fruit and salad. We ordered the rockfish, lamb, and pork tenderloin as entrees, and unfortunately we did not care for any of them. For dessert we ordered the strawberry shortcake and the smores, and both were delicious. I am not sure if the food was mediocre because of the volume of customers? I am hesitant to go back, especially for the price.

Should name this place 'Smoked Gouda'. 75+% of the menu has it incorporated in to a dish, one way or another. Don't get me wrong, smoked gouda is delicious but, come on. We went with a warm smoked gouda (shocking) dip, that was overly saturated with grease. I was taking spoonfuls of grease out of it. Was beyond unappetizing. For the main entree I went with their 'classic' penne that had, yet again, smoked gouda in a cream sauce with penne, spinach and I think tomatoes with chicken. The sauce was entirely too salty, thick, and beyond that - was flavorless. The chicken was obviously frozen, and overcooked so it had a spongy texture to it. Just overall, not at all impressed. Truth be told, we were going to Azzurro's next door but they were closed until 5. Next time we'll wait.

This place is delicious! I've been here twice and both times my meal was great. First time I tried the edemame hummus and the honey srachia (sp?) chicken. Soooo good. Next time I had the fried green tomato BLT and a side of grits. Seriously, get the grits!!! Don't come here and not get the grits. The outdoor seating looks really nice, I'd like to come back when the weather has turned warm for good. Plenty of parking, we've had reservations both times so I'd recommend hitting up Open Table prior. The only thing I didn't like was my cocktail - it was a strawberry st. germaine something or other. Try something else or stick to wine or beer.

Most likely will not be back. Food was not good. Chicken and fish were both dry and overcooked. Mac and cheese was flavorless and NOT award winning. Service was ok. Atmosphere was ok until we were privy to a 20 minute customer complaining about drink charges to a manager.

Had not been to Mosaics for brunch in a long time. Food was as amazing as always with very creative combinations. Portions are small but everything is so rich and flavorful you won't leave hungry. Make sure you ask for the biscuits.

Delicious food with great vibe! I've never been disappointed. Ok, maybe for a few minutes when they surprised me with a new menu, but it was just as good as before! Love the steak rounds dish! Salmon was good too! Great place for a business lunch or dinner. Love the simple but truly good food. One of our go-to places :)

Very tasty! I have been here a few times, always love the food. Sometimes the service is mediocre (that's why I gave them 4 stars) however very good food. A little bit pricey but worth it. A few months back I was try a gluten free diet and they were fairly accommodating with giving me cucumbers instead of breadsticks for my Gouda dip (highly recommend this dip!!) Also Mac and cheese is to die for

Food was great.... But feeling discriminated against by your waiter ( because you are in your mid twenties) is not acceptable. Modestly dressed twenty-something's can tip just as well if not better than individuals in an older demographic who appear to be wealthy based on their attire.

We recently went for Richmond Restaurant week. The appetizers were both just okay. The soup, which was trying to be beer cheese variation, was good, but way off from the style. The ravioli filling we excellent, but the pasta itself was probably twice the thickness it should be. As the for the entrées, the Pork Tenderloin Medallions with sage risotto was very solid. I had no complaints. The cranberry/apple relish made it a perfect fall dish. Now the Fried Chicken & Red Velvet Waffles was an absolute disaster. I took two bites and sent the entire dish back (the waitress was very nice about it). The chicken has a nice coating, but it was extremely fatty and lacking flavor. The waffles were way too heavy a consistency and the herb cream cheese was overpowering and clashed with everything on the plate. In place of the chicken, I got the Chili Glazed Sea Scallops. The scallops themselves were spot on, but the plate only came with two. In addition, there was way too many noodles for the amount of scallops. The sauce was overly sweet and lacked acidity to balance it out. For dessert we had the Pumpkin Tiramisu ala Mason Jar and the Baked Virginia Apples. The tiramisu tasted like pie filling, but richer (maybe too rich). The apples were excellent, but the dough on the bottom was way too thick, between 1/4 and 1/2 inch. I think I might give it another try. If you look at the regular menu, it's much more conservative than their restaurant week menu. The issue might have been that their reached exceeded their grasp for that particular week's special menu.

I've read a few negative reviews about this place regarding mischarges or lousy service, and I have to say that was not the case when I went! Maybe the reviewers got a new server or someone who wasn't the most experienced - when we went, the service was pretty much as expected, and the food was fantastic. We tried the gruyere dip appetizer, and were very impressed. The "chips" were good texture, and the dip had a fantastic, smoky flavor. For my entree, I got the Sriracha-honey chicken with the mac and cheese, and was the most impressed I think I've ever been with restaurant chicken. The skin was very crisp and the chicken wasn't at all overcooked; the sriracha gave just the right amount of heat without killing the sweetness from the honey. The mac and cheese was equally excellent, especially with some of the honey sauce on it. It did seem a bit overpriced for the serving, which is the only thing that keeps me from giving it five stars! $18 for chicken is, I feel, a bit excessive, no matter how excellent it was. After eating, the server came and took my plate away to be boxed up, and returned it in a neat little labeled package. This restaurant is definitely tailored towards the tennis-playing residents and suit-wearing businessmen of the more upscale neighborhoods, especially during lunch hours. However, we did not feel at all out of place in our jeans and polo shirts, and very much enjoyed the meal. Overall our experience was a good one, and we will definitely be back. The service was pretty much on par for a restaurant of that caliber, the food was fresh, hot, and tasty, and the flavor combinations were creative and on-point, even in the cocktails. I would encourage anyone to give it a try!

Time to update and spread the word about the most incredible salad ever. I've had it multiple times now, and each time is just as amazing as the previous. So what's it called, you ask? Super-Fit Salad. What's in it? Oh just an amazing and hearty mix of kale, spinach, cucumbers, tomatoes, walnuts, cranberries, carrots, hard-boiled egg, and edamame. Yep, I said edamame. Amazing. Oh, and did I mention that you can add a piece of grilled salmon? Yep, I always do, and it's always cooked perfectly with a slight crispness to the outside. The dressing options are delicious, as well. It comes with a lemon-herb vinaigrette, but you can sub out for any of their unique dressings. I often go for balsamic-dijon and balsamic blue cheese (both on the side, please!). They also offer a yogurt-ranch, sesame ginger vinaigrette, homemade blue cheese, raspberry ranch, strawberry rhubarb vinaigrette, and lemon aioli. Is your mouth watering yet? Think a salad isn't enough for a full meal? Think again! The portion is so big that I always ask for a to-go box and have at least two meals out of it. It's not the cheapest salad, but it's definitely worth the price. Absolutely filling, flavorful and fantastic!

My guy brought me here when he found that it offered gluten free eats. We were floored when we got inside. It is absolutely beautiful! It was nice sitting on the love seats instead of chairs. The unique chandeliers were gorgeous, and the lighting was perfect for the event we went out to celebrate. I'd have to say my favorite thing about Mosaic though (besides the food!) was the staff. Everyone was friendly, and our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and what I could eat safely. He helped me choose a meal and made sure to note that it NEEDED to be GF so he could relay it to the chef. Anyone else with Celiac knows how nerve wracking it can be to go out to eat not knowing if you will feel sick afterwards. I had the Shrimp & Grits - unbelievable!!! I was excited to see they offered GF desserts as well, which I was too stuffed to nibble on. I will definitely be going back!!

Great food. More relaxed, less crowded feel than restaurants in the fan so it is nice to get away from the main strip sometimes. The service is great and all meal times have been excellent. My favorite is their homemade pita bread for some of their sandwiches!

went early on a saturday evening (around 6:30pm) and the restaurant was filled - we ate at the bar. Nicer atmosphere inside than I was expecting, I like the glass enclosed kitchen. We split the edamame hummus to start, very good. Came with pita points & raw zucchini slices. I followed it up with 'turkey minis' from their Fit450 menu (under 450 calories) and it was good & very filling. Turkey minis (minus the bun) over spinach and topped with a little feta and avocado . My husband went another route with a bacon cheeseburger and mac&cheese - he really enjoyed:) Good beers on tap & I had an unsweet tea that had a slight orange flavor which was nice. We'll definitely go back!

From the second I sat down for dinner last night I was already disappointed. The wood chairs on the slippery tile floor move around like you were on ice. If you don't sit perfectly upright, you start to quickly slide in any directions making it very difficult to remain comfortable. Opposite the table was a VERY uncomfortable padded bench that both tables around us commented how bad they were and pillows were being passed around left and right trying to find something resembling normal. Before we ordered we noticed the music selection changed several times. One moment was Rusted Root, the next was some jazz, followed by some random 90's alternative. The elderly couple next too us looked slightly uncomfortable by the 90's alternative as I can assure you it wasn't Goo Goo Dolls. From the menu we ordered the Spicy Corn Dip with Corn Chips. This is the dish that upset me the most as it was served with Frito Lays. I was expecting some sort of house baked Corn Tortilla or something similar, not Fritos. Was this a mistake? Or was this one of those moments where they ran out of the right chips and bought Frito's in a pinch?? To make it worse, the chilled corn salad was NOT spicy in the slightest and tasted like Pimento Cheese with Corn in it. Very bland. My Mosaic Penne Pasta was decent. It reminded me of something I would get at Macaroni Grill because the sauce was slightly too thick. The big disappointment though was that the Sundried tomatoes were so scant they might as well have not existed as a part of this dish. The final straw though that made this a terrible dining experience was the inclusion of bacon in a the vegetable sides. When someone orders Salmon with a side of fresh vegetables they do not expect their to be meat of any sort in the vegetables, especially if not printed on the menu. To make matters worse, when we asked for it to be cooked again without the bacon we were told it was all already mixed in. I've been a chef for over 12 years... already mixed in means those vegetables were prepared at the beginning of the night and sit in a steam table and are scooped onto the plate. That's not fresh. At this point our waiter (who was incredibly cordial and understanding) offered to bring some sauteed zucchini. Unfortunately this too was prepared poorly, completely doused in salt and pepper and degrading the fresh natural flavor of zucchini. The manager offered us dessert and some free entree coupons but we declined both as the experience was so poor and disappointing that we've realized it's not worth wasting another night when Richmond is full of so many amazing restaurants just 5 minutes east. We will certainly not return, but hopefully this long time Richmond restaurant pulls it together and keeps their name in tact.

It was ok. Food was tasty. I has falafel pita sandwich with shrimp added. Wasn't awesome... Hostess was rude. We came at lunch- she was like its going to be a long wait. No tables available. Didn't offer bar seating or communal table until we asked, & she turned away 3 groups in front of ours... Definitely not good for business, not that they were hurting for it..by the time we left, both the bar & the communal table were full too. Not sure that it is worth all the hype. Definitely been to better places, food/ money wise. Did like the decor tho.

I've been meaning to try this place for a hot second when our friends suggested we meet up here for lunch. I love that they have local craft beer on tap. I ordered the Fit Curry off of their 450 calorie menu. I was surprised at how filling it was, which makes me wonder who calculates the calorie county. It was a tasty shrimp, quinoa, and coconut curry. The hubs had the turkey burger and he was shocked at how good it was. Next we'll try the $35 date nite. I do have to agree with Mos D. I almost busted my ass a few times on the floor and I was wearing rubber soled shoes.

I've visited and dined at Mosaic many times for lunch, brunch and dinner. The service has always been attentive, and the food has been consistently good. Wife and I dined on a recent Friday night without reservations. The wait was minimal (10 minutes or half a beer). The beer list was good w/lots of choice. The place was packed, and it was very loud. I ordered the Mahi special. the fish arrived hot, in a good sized portion, and very flavorful. It was a great piece of fish. The accompanying sides, jasmine rice and a black bean cake, were room temp. The waitress followed up and asked "how do you like your dinners?" and I let her know. She apologized and in short order the manager arrived to apologize and offer free dessert. As we're not dessert eaters, she offered an alternative of 20% off on the meal. That's how you run a restaurant. Things are seldom perfect, and when they aren't it's how you recover that counts. I'll go back because these folks know what they're doing, and they want my business. I'm happy to give it to them.

Didn't blow my wife and I away. The Edamame Hummus was great. Other than that, we both left underwhelmed. I couldn't get through the bowl of my squash soup. My wife ordered Tuscan Chicken. It had the consistency of boiled chicken as opposed to any pan fried chicken that I've experienced. The chicken was completely white without any hint of searing and the lemon sauce was more of a cream sauce that had very little taste. I had the pork loin. The pork loin itself was fine, but the cheesy risotto didn't really pair well with the dish.

Food is very good; service was excellent. And unlike many new Richmond restaurants you can actually have a conversation with your dinner companions. Love the spring rolls and the spicy strip appetizers. Stuffed pepper soup was excellent. Again, unlike many other restaurants the chairs were actually comfortable. Only downside was the wine. My wife and I ordered the same house red because it was happy hour but they tasked completely different. Maybe something in my glass. Anyway the waitress replaced it and did not charge us for it. A great, casual place with very good food and service and reasonable prices.

Went here lat night with my daughter and it was really great! The menu is varied and not too big. They also have daily specials. My daughter was thrilled to find vegetarian options, and I was just as happy to find "light fare". I had the "Fit Faro Shrimp", which was absolutely wonderful, the shrimp cooked just right. I also decided to try the butternut squash bisque ( I love autumn!), which was really tasty, with spices and topped with some some creme fraiche. My daughter had the edamame hummus, which she proclaimed as "really good!" We had enough to take leftovers home, too! Yum! The atmosphere is really nice - casual, but not noisy. We noticed that we were easily able to hear each other, even though there were quite a few people in the restaurant (which isn't very big, unless they have another area I didn't see). There was music playing lightly on the background, but it wasn't a distraction. I would be remiss not to mention the fantastic service! Our server was very knowledgable about the menu and very quick to refill water glasses and checked on us often enough to make us feel well looked after (but not bothered). Check out their menu - you should try this restaurant! We'll certainly be back!

I just moved and this restaurant is literally the closet eatery to my house. I tried it based on location alone and HOLY COW did I hit the jackpot. Everything was great. From the amazing service, to the loungey booths and the aaamazing food, I will return SOON. From the beginning I was digging the vibe. They have these awesome glass chandeliers that ooze class and the seating really fosters a sense of comfort and relaxation. We ordered the edamame hummus served with cucumbers and pita to start and it was phenom. It was creamy and delicious and my boyfriend and I essentially licked the plate clean. For the entree I ordered the crab cake pita with a side salad. This was a dish that had potential to be blah, but was anything but. The side salad was completely legit. It was HUGE, fresh and delicious. It was loaded with veggies and the most delicious homemade croutons. The best part was the raspberry ranch dressing that completely took it over the top. I don't expect much from a side salad, but this totally wowed. As for the crab pita it had tons of crab served on a warm pita with a delicious spicy Cajun sauce. It was perfect. My boyfriend ordered the turkey burger and said he couldn't wait to come back. I want to try lots of other things on the menu, but what really impressed me was they have a fit450 menu, where they have lots of items that are under 450 calories. I admire a restaurant that prides themselves in fresh, healthy items and I can't wait to go back and try the other offerings. Well done mosaic! Well done!

Great brunch menu, but menu is small on Sundays. The rollers are nice for lighter fare. The black bean roller was fresh and delicious - black bean cakes, edamame hummus (yep), cucumbers, tomatoes, cucumber yogurt dressing. Highly recommend. Can get sandwiches/rollers with a side of fruit for a lighter side (though my husband's side of potatoes looked great). Great overall atmosphere and decor.

I love this place!! their salads and fit menu is wonderful. I had the salmon and it was delicious!! the portion was perfect, my husband had a burger which he thought was great, cooked perfect temp, for dessert we shared cookies which where out of this world delicious. This is definitely a place i will be frequenting from now on.

Good food.. Great service. Went this evening to celebrate birthdays. Although they had a large group function tonight the waitstaff was really attentive. I had the MMS Salmon and it was perfectly cooked salmon on a bed of lettuce, artichoke hearts and olives with a lemon herb dressing. This was filling but we had to split the cookie monster cake. Good and big enough for three. Great job!

This is a review for their catering services only. Mosaic is effing amazing! I love them, they are fantastic, and I will use them for all my catering needs in the future...not that I ever have much of an occasion to cater things. Our coordinator was Crystal Lowery and she was super helpful, friendly and indulgent. The only thing she wasn't very good at was answering emails or phone calls. I may have set the precedent on that, because at first I answered slowly too, but it frequently took her a few days to answer messages or emails. Our plans changed SEVERAL times and she was responsive each time, never acted like it was an inconvenience or a pain in the ass that things kept changing. I never felt like the bill was being inflated or we were being over charged for anything. When we did the tasting the food was really great. Just a note, if you taste with them and then decide not to use them, it's 25$ per person for the tasting. They were really good about working with us to make a few of the food items vegan and they had a great selection of vegetarian and other special diet items. We didn't like a few things and they substituted them with equally tasty items. They also used a lot of organic, local ingredients and they were really into our request to use compost-able flatware instead of just the regular disposables. They didn't even charge us extra for them! At the wedding I kept getting compliments for the food. I feel like people usually talk about the dress and the decor, but we constantly got, "the food is amazing!" Plus, they packed up a special serving for the pastor and packed up all the leftovers so we could take them home. To sum. Use them for catering! Friendly staff, great coordinators, amazing food, beautiful presentation, reasonable prices. AMAZING! LOL, A++ Would buy again.

Past the extremely long wait (for everything), this place wasn't bad. I didn't fall in love with anything. The little sweet potato biscuit things were really good...probably my favorite thing. This might be one of those places that looks better than it actually is.

So, normally this is not an area of town that I stop to shop/eat in as I think that I am well below the socio-economic demographics they are catering to. When we pulled into the parking lot my hubby noted that this was a place for people who were afraid to go downtown and so they built a little "city center" near UR to feel safe. Hmmm, well put. But really, I am not going to dock them on points for that. We were there for a non-profit night, where 10% of your bill is donated to a particular non-profit so I've got to give them props right there for being at least a little bit involved in the community. They have outdoor seating, albeit overlooking a parking lot, but still probably not a bad place to have dinner on a spring evening. However, we were seated inside. Let me just say, and Richmond Restrauteurs, please take note, that I am so tired of being shown to a seat where I am close enough to the diners at the table next to me that I feel rude if I don't introduced myself and help them finish their dessert. C'mon. I know you want/need to pack in as many people as possible but when the waitress can't fit between the tables and I have to repeat everything twice maybe a line has been crossed. That being said, lets get to some of the good. The atmosphere is nice, modern but cozy. Their menu has a suprising amount of dishes featuring smoke gouda, but hey, if you've got a favorite product, by all means, flaunt it. But my favorite thing about their menu is the section of dishes under 450 calories. How wonderfully considerate! Hubby got the shrimp and grits (not from the 450 menu) and the grits were just about the creamiest I've ever had, but unfortunately in a way that lost the texture of the grits themselves. It was also extremely heavy. I got the salmon from the 450 menu - served with sundried tomatoes, olives, artichoke hearts, zucchini and spinach. Yum yum. See people, it is possible to make a delicious and healthy meal. All in all it was an okay experience. The food was fine, the service was fine, the atmosphere was fine, but honestly, its not someplace that I think I will ever get a craving for.

4.8 This place is chill. I'm unfamiliar with this area but drove over to Talbot's as they were having a sale and I had some gift cards I wanted to use. This cafe/restaurant/bar is just a few doors down. I ordered an Atlantis Shrimp roller, hold the mozzarella and a Blue Mountain Brewery Brewer's Reserve draught. Both were excellent. It's a large room split into separate areas: front left and right seating, middle left small bar (12 -14 seats), middle right seating, middle farther right prep/cooking area, rear left seating area. Nicely decorated and cool music. Service was prompt and extremely friendly; workers seemed happy to be there. If I owned a cafe/restaurant//bar, I would want it to be just like this place! Daily drink specials were posted at the bar, $3-$4 from 4-7pm. Draughts were $3. On Weds. or Thurs? (They also do catering, check out their web site.) mosaicedibles.com

About as average as they come in my book. Food was over cooked. Restaurant was 2/3s full and neither the wait staff nor the kitchen could handle it. Service was average at best. Our waitress would disappear for 20 minute increments. We were celebrating an event for two in our group and would have liked to have had a few more drinks and glasses of wine but our waitress was just AWOL for most of the evening. Everyone's food was OK at best. Most dishes looked like what I prepare at home when given time to cook. Thoroughly underwhelmed. Doubt I will back other than for a early happy hour drink. Nice decor. Good location. Disappointing service and food.

Wonderful food. Very fresh. Use of local ingredients is noticeable in the great flavors. Decor inside is very cool, especially if you are a fan of colored glass. Will definitely be back. Plus, their date night deal is just too good to pass up. Go check it out.

I've only been here once and the food was delicious. I had the lobster mac and cheese and it was fantastic! I can't wait to go back again to try other things since the menu looked so delicious. However, I can't give the same rave reviews for our service. It's like the waiter disappeared. He was only there to bring drinks, bring food, bring check. I was extraordinarily thirsty and my drink sat empty. Maybe it was a fluke, so I'll certainly give it another chance!

What a cozy restaurant with food and service that are excellent. We were seated promptly and helped along through the evening by our awesome server Tyler. Ask for her by name! She was funny, rolled with the punches, and paid great attention to us. All of our requests were met with an enthusiastic can-do response. Will return again just for her. My companion had the penne pasta, which she deemed delicious. I had the chicken which was good although, if I had to nitpick, the veggies and accompanying fried potatoes were a bit too greasy for my palate. But they were delicious. Although the restaurant was jammed we never felt rushed or hurried and we were a duo taking up a four-top. Kudos to a well-run, lovely space. Can't wait to come back.

We went here with some friends last weekend and were not impressed. The food really was not good - I ordered my beef medallions medium rare and they came out tough and well done. My husband's shrimp and grits did not look good at all! What a shame - cute place, but they just didn't get the food right!

QUIETLY SERVING ONE OF THE BEST BURGERS IN RICHMOND I think that people that write about the "old" Mosaic are missing the point, any good restaurant needs to evolve to stay in business, and this place is no exception. I am pleased that they have survived the recent recession and have stayed afloat, albeit with changes to the way they do business. For one, waitress service replaced counter service, and, truthfully, waiting on a long counter line for lunch was never fun. Second, the prices are a bit higher if you wish to order a side dish, but the alacarte prices are still fairly reasonable, so I you wish to add a side (the cranberry cole slaw is FABULOUS) it wont break your budget. Now to the food, and I have to tell you that times may have changed some things, but overall, their commitment to fresh ingredients and interesting combinations remains solid. And here is the best tip I can give you - this place quietly has probably the best hamburger, yes, I said hamburger, in the entire Richmond area. Their meat is angus, and you can certainly taste the quality, I NEVER put ketchup on these burgers, don't need to. (but you can...) Their pitas, wraps and salads remain strong staples, and you get your choice of proteins to put on them (I prefer their shrimp, always big and fresh tasting). Service wise - they have always been courteous and helpful as a staff, and my son with food allergies has always been handled with care and attention. The wait is a bit longer during peak times, so if you don't want to wait, eat a bit off peak (duh!). So, although people get on here and complain about "they way things were" I think that is an unfair way to judge and review the present incarnation of a place. Has Mosaic changed? Yes it has. But it's still here, the food is still a notch above ordinary, and we need to keep businesses like them open if we wish to have something to complain about, or savor, in the future. I am going back for their angus burger, meet you there.

Mosaic is convenient for us, so we drop in about two or three times a month. The dining space is nice with interesting glass sculptures that make me think of Morano, Venice. When the dining room is full the noise can be overwhelming. The service is almost always excellent and mostly knowledgable about the menu and wine list. Something many other local restauranteurs seem to totally ignore. We have had many very satisfying meals here. I particularly like the low calorie, carbo, and vegetarian offerings for when one of us is feeling a bit bloated from all the dining out. The food is great and almost always neatly presented. I have never noticed any consistent quality knife work. At these prices and from the aforementioned sloppy kitchen details I am guessing most of the BOH staff are not culinary school types. Nice small tap list and an interesting atypical wine list for this part of town. The weekday happy hour crowd can and often does get a bit wound up. No doubt from the generous pours, unlike a lot of happy hour bars that pour lite. The web site is pretty slick emphasizing their popular catering. I do but they had a simpler page for mobile devices, though. They also have the ubiquitous social media options. Overall we really like the place and the prices are on par with the quality of the food and service. On our short list of reliable local spots.

I have loved Mosaic for years and even more since it got its semi-recent makeover. Mosaic used to be a place where you'd order your food at a counter, sit, and a server would bring it to you. A little while ago, the owners spruced up the interior, giving it more room to sit, a bar and stylish new look, and changed it to a full-service restaurant. I like it better this way. In the past, waiting in line to order then searching for a table was a pain. Now, service is simple. I love stopping in for lunch and brunch. Although there are hearty dishes like burgers, I really appreciate that Mosaic has a lot of low-fat, low-calorie and low-carb dishes on the menu. It's nice to be able to go out to eat and know you're getting something healthy from a locally owned restaurant. I've tried the South Beach Caesar Salad with numerous soups. One in particular that stood out was a spicy peanut soup. I also tried the fit chicken saute, which featured ginger chicken, toasted sesame seeds, zucchini, roasted red peppers, garlic, onions, carrots, snow peas, walnuts and spinach for under 450 calories. It was light but delicious. I am absolutely in love with the turkey and smoked Gouda sandwich. When I initially ordered the combo of roasted turkey, smoked Gouda, mixed greens, tomatoes and raspberry-chipotle mayo on wheat bread, I asked for the mayo on the side because I wasn't sure about the flavors. It ended up to be a sweet-yet-spicy, perfectly spiced sauce. It made the sandwich and it's hard to imagine anything it wouldn't be good on. It was outstanding. Other favorites include the Aegian Chicken Pita with grilled chicken, olives, onions, feta, field greens, tomatoes and a Greek vinaigrette dressing and the white bean turkey chili. If you're not watching your waistline, Mosaic also has a great selection of big, freshly baked cookies. They are very indulgent and tasty. I haven't made it to the bar at night, but the bright colors and cheerful environment make it seem like a nice place to grab a drink. I'll definitely be heading back soon for lunch.

I wrote this review in light of this restaurant's 4 star average. I live nearby, and the food that I have had from here has admittedly always been good (not amazing); but, the service is ALWAYS slow, the food is quite expensive, and they only have draft beer (3). To say some good, the happy hour prices / deals do seem impressive, yet I have never been.

I love mosaic for the food and the atmosphere. The Shem creek pita is yummy. For a vegetarian dish the black bean burger trio was also very good. My husband likes the smoked Gouda burger and I had the shrimp and grits at dinner once. It was also delicious. The service is usually good but occasionally slow. The food takes a while to prepare because they make it to order. It is fresh so I don't mind waiting. What is with the reviews complaining about the moms and grand moms as well as waiting a bit for preparation? Wow snobbish much? We moms and grand moms have to eat too. Since when do restaurants need to serve only the young brats?

I checked the menu online before I went and was blown away. Normally I am pretty picky but there were about a dozen things on the menu that I wanted to try. In person things were just as good. The restaurant has a neat vibe... very unlike other Richmond restaurants but I am not sure if I can articulate how. We had no problems with service at all despite a large and lively crowd. Open kitchen is cool. Good value too.

Had a work event held there and promised I would come home and write a review. THE STAFF HERE HAD NO IDEA WHAT THEY WERE DOING. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt and say they were not prepared to handle the volume of customers...sure, let's do that. Let me break it down for you because it was this bad/bizarre: 1) The female hostess had to prompt the male hostess at the podium to acknowledge us because he was too busy chatting with other staff. 2) When asked how long the wait was, he simply replied there were 5 people in front of us and people were getting up throughout the evening. "NO KIDDING, DUDE, can I get an approximate wait time???" 3) Asked him if we could wait at the bar, "Uh, sure. Not sure if there is seating there." "We just want a drink..." 4) While waiting at the bar, the female hostess awkwardly approached us to tell us that the table was ready and tried to lead us to it, but we hadn't paid our tab at the bar. She tells us she'll be right back and we see her run by to bus the table. Were you going to seat us at a table that wasn't bussed??? 5) The waitress takes forever to get our order. She finally comes over and I have to request the wine menu. We ask her if the shrimp and grits are good, "Well, people really like it, but I don't like grits so...." Really? Great selling points.... 6) She comes back 8 min later to get our wine order and brings a basket of bread (this is at least 20 minutes into being seated). We don't have bread plates....I have to ask for them. 7) Another waitress brings our entrees and I have to ask her for our bottle of wine that we order 10 minutes ago. Why didn't we leave or complain? It was a work event and I was there in support. I also knew that I would be asked afterward about my experience and I could give an honest opinion, which is: The food was good and the prices were reasonable. The service sucked. They offer carry-out. GO FOR THE CARRY OUT.

Great food and calm atmosphere. The prices are around what you would pay at Panera at lunch but the quality is superior. Dinner turns to mid price fine dining but plates average just over 10 dollars each. Quite a selection for bottled beers considering their small location. Happy hour is great as well with free appetizers served at the bar during the special... 4-7 I think.

Very nicely appointed quaint, quirkly little "cafe", I'd call it, located in a strip mall. Once inside I was very pleased with the decor, and knew I was in for something different. And I was right. I had oxtail ravioli as my appetizer and boy was it good. That was kind of a splurge for me because I had every intention on having something healthy for dinner that night but once my eyes locked on that rarity I couldn't resist. I did redeem myself though by ordering the Superfit Salad I believe it's called- with grilled salmon. This salad is awesome!! And had I not seen those darn ravioli, I could have easily had just the salad and been quite satisfied. Instead, I ended up feeling stuffed, and couldn't finish my salad, and alas, no room to try dessert. (well two glasses of wine was my dessert!!). So if I'm ever in the Richmond area again, I'd definitely make it my business to grab a meal here.

Have been several times for lunch. Tonight was first time for dinner. Food has always been really good, and lunch service/noise has been fine. But tonight the place was packed. Service was SLOW, and noise was anything but average...unless loud "shout at your table partners" has become the new average...which apparently it has :-( And why on earth is this place rated kid friendly? Not a high chair in sight, nor should there be one. I'll go back...but only for lunch.

I give a 4 star rating for the following: *Location - it's close to my home, convenient, comfortable, parking easy *Atmosphere - indoor area and outdoor patio are sleek and relaxing *Service - friendly and and timely, attentive *Food - bacon and Gorgonzola with vinaigrette dressing was wonderful!! Prices are not bad for the quality of fresh food that you receive. Would go back in a heartbeat for Sunday brunch. Have not tried for dinner but would be willing to try after my brunch experience. Great job Mosaic!

Food was really good. Edamame hummus-yum. Pretty decent beer/wine selection. I am a vegetarian and we veggies know, if it is one thing we hate, it's a boring selection of veg food. They had a lot of options and they weren't boring. Overall dinner for 4 with apps, food, beers (3) and 2 desserts, under 100. I think that's a deal.

Our first visit and we loved it. Great place to relax and have enjoy some wonderful food. The only reason it did not get 5 stars was the location of the table, next to the service entrance of the bar, where I sat I was able to see the inner workings of the bar area and waiters or bartender walking past my chair. Not enough to take away from the meal but still distracting. The reastaurant was beautiful and the staff was great. We will be back.

Had the French toast & a strawberry mojito. Yum! Excellent food, beautiful decor. I need to go back at least 4 more times to try everything. I like the unique items; sweet potato biscuits with apricot butter instead of bread. I FINALLY found a killer breakfast burrito too. Not authentic So Cal, but very fresh, tasty and unique with spinach, steak, black beans, potatoes. The atmosphere is clean, modern and comfortable. Brought the kids and they loved the french toast and homemade lemonade.

A superb brunch offering, with tolerant staff, and reasonably quick service. I've actually run a number of RP games in this particular restaurant during brunch, in the middle of the church brunch. And no one complained in the slightest, which is either a demarcation of wonderful politeness, or sheer southern cussedness regarding what can be said to customers. Food-wise, the daily specials are excellent, and their cookies are very large and very tasty. The drink selection isn't everything I'd wish for but they generally have some sort of fresh juice available. I will generally avoid the chopped salads out of personal preference, since they're quite heavy as salads go. All in all, it's a lovely little place with a great location. I really do like it quite a lot, though I suspect I am not precisely what they seek in the way of clientele. Ah well, such is the price of success! All joking aside, do remember to tip, as even though it is a serving-line style restaurant, you still have a waiter and the food doesn't come in a wrapper.

Mosaic runs a tight ship and it shows. The food is fantastic and fresh. The attention to detail is obvious here! Every single time we go to Mosaic, and we go a lot, the service is fantastic!! I recently dined at Xtra's cafe in carytown which is somewhat similar and Mosaic blows them away. I have worked in the restaurant business both here in Richmond and also in New York City. I find it difficult to find good service here in Richmond so if I need a great place to take family or friends, I have no questions about Mosaic. I definitely recommend it!!

This place has gone WAY downhill. As a UR alum, I've been eating here for years. I always thought the food was really good, plus it was quick because you ordered at the counter and then they brought your food 5-10 minutes later. It was a very happy place between fast food and actual restaurant. But then they got greedy. They have redone the place. added a bar, made it into more of a restaurant. I guess they are trying to compete. you can't order at the counter you have to sit down and be served. and so we did. and it took FOREVER. Plus, they have taken some really great things off the menu AND now they are nickel and diming you. ordered a wrap (which used to come with a choice of sides.) now comes with nothing. really??? so i decided to pay for a cup of soup. it was cold. It also took forever to get the bill and i saw a waitress get annoyed at a mom and daughter who ordered to go and then ate on a nearby bench. Hey, who can blame them? People want the old Mosaic back. This place used to be great for what it was. But i don't think it competes with the loads of other "real restaurants". They had a niche . . .now they are just a restaurant with slow service and so so food.

We went there for lunch on New Year's Day. We were driving from DC to Raleigh/Durham and needed a lunch place, and found this one on Yelp. We got lost trying to find the place because our GPS didn't realize the road patterns had changed, so we were tired and cranky as we arrived. Then we were more than a little disappointed to get a limited brunch menu rather than straight lunch, since we'd looked up the lunch menu on line and were very excited to order certain items, but once we got over that, we had a very fine meal. I had the huevos rancheros, which were terrific, and my daughters had the black bean roller, and my husband had the shrimp and grits. All excellent. Service a little spotty at first as the waiter cluelessly claimed not to have chamomile tea, but then came back and said " I lied" (I think he meant he was mistaken). Anyway, good food, good cheer for tired travellers, and good service in the end. Little cold in the front and I couldn't find an outlet to charge my phone. So, not five stars but a solid 4.

Ate there for first time. had the 'fit" Cobb Salad w/out the bacon. I only wish i lived in Richmond for Mosaic. Best Cobb Salad I've ever had. Service was great, and the glass lamp fixtures are amazing. I'd love to have them in my house. Definitely a winner for Richmond.

Mosaic Catering is great if you like their unique take on ham biscuits. I was at the Style 25th Anniversary Party this Tuesday and the biscuit not only contained ham, but also a nickel sized shard of glass! I have never had such a unique twist. I am a huge fan of living on the edge, but I gave their Catering Company 1 Star based on the idea that you, the reader, may not. DANGEROUS.

It's a total "Ladies Who Lunch" crowd, but I love this place anyway. My favorites were the Aegean Wrap and the Lamb Pita. Their salads are good, and I love their balsamic vinaigrette! The service is friendly, too. It's a great place to go when you want a light, healthy lunch while dining outside.
